LSC BASEBALL
Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State are tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings with identical 22-10
records with one week of league play remaining. TAMUK plays at West Texas A&M, ASU hosts Tarleton State,
and Cameron is at Eastern New Mexico this week.
The Javelinas, Rams, and Buffs have clinched a spot in the four-team LSC Championship event. The fourth
team will be decided this week along with the top seed and host.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series and three-game series against every other
team. Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning
contest Sunday, and each three-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday and a 7x9 doubleheader
Saturday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference
games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and
receive the league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The championship will be played May 12-
13-14, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 150-128 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are
currently 21-11 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 8-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Nick Chapman, West Texas A&M University, SR, OF, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS
Chapman put together another strong week as he went 7 for 11 with three runs scored, two doubles, one
home run and driving in two for the Buffs in a sweep of Eastern New Mexico this weekend. Chapman hit .636
and slugged 1.091 for the week, while reaching base at a .636 clip with no strikeouts. He had three hits in the
first game and three hits in the third, while recording a solo home run in the second game of a 5-3 win. His
home run came on just the second pitch in the bottom of the first inning for the Buffs. Chapman, who has a
three-game hitting streak and has reached safely in each of the past six games, ranks fourth on the team with
12 multi-hit games this season and five with three hits.
PITCHER
Bryan Belote, Cameron University, JR, SP, Angleton, Texas, Angleton HS
Belote tossed eight innings of scoreless ball against Angelo State in what was supposed to be a seven-inning
game. The redshirt-junior gave up five hits and only allowed an ASU runner to reach scoring position three
times. Belote did not get a decision in the contest but kept the Aggies in the game to win 1-0 in the 10th inning.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jay Gonzales, Angelo State University, led team at the dish with several clutch hits in the team’s 2-1 series
win over Cameron this week. The junior from the Dallas area maintained a stellar .625 batting average, with a
.750 slugging percentage and a .727 on base percentage for the three games. This included a perfect 3-for-3
performance in game two of the Sunday doubleheader. He recorded a team leading three RBIs off of five hits,
which included one double. He also led the Rams drawing three walks.
Dalton Perry, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, led the Javelinas with seven base hits in 13 at bats from the
leadoff spot at Tarleton State... Texas A&M-Kingsville took two out of three from the Texans as Perry collected
two runs, a double, an RBI and two stolen bases and did not strike out in 14 plate appearances... for the week,
the senior outfielder hit .538 and on the year, is the only LSC batter over .400 with a .415 clip.
Forrest Perron, Tarleton State University, provided Tarleton with a spark at the top of the lineup. The junior
second baseman hit .364 with two runs scored and one RBI while stealing three bases.
Matt Shannon, Angelo State University, played a key role in getting the Rams off to a good start in the series
with a solid eight inning performance in Saturday’s win. Earning his sixth win of the season, the sophomore
gave up only one unearned run off of eight hits. He also retired eight hitters on strikes and only gave up one
walk holding the opposition to .258 at the plate.
Lance Elling, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, shut the door in both of Texas A&M-Kingsville’s victories
last week at Tarleton State as the Javelinas remained tied atop the LSC standings... Elling tossed 2.1 scoreless
innings in Saturday’s 7-5 win over the Texans... the right-hander struck out two earning the save and in the
series finale, went 0.2 innings for the second save of the series... on the year, Elling is 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA and
five saves.
Brooks Trujillo, West Texas A&M University, started the first and third games of a series sweep of Eastern
New Mexico where he pitched the first two innings of the Buffs’ 15-5 win in the opener in the run-rule game
and seven innings in a combined shutout in a 3-0 win in the finale. He allowed six hits, walked two and fanned
eight as ENMU hit just .188 against him and he allowed just one extra-base hit. Trujillo went 1-0 for the week
and improved to 7-4 on the year. It was the first time this season he pitched in multiple games of a series.
Trevor Renfro, Tarleton State University, continued to dominate for the Tarleton Texans as the senior right
hander tossed his sixth consecutive complete game for a 5-1 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday afternoon.
Renfro allowed one run on two walks and just four hits while striking out four. His final strikeout of the afternoon
came with two on and one out in the top of the seventh to put a halt to any Javelina rally attempts. Renfro held
the Kingsville hitters to a .154 average.

Angelo State
Playing around inclement weather, the Rams took its series against the Cameron Aggies, 2-1, to remain in
a tie for first place in the conference heading into the final week of the regular season. Matt Shannon and
Kenton Schroter both earned wins with their performances on the mound. Bryce Zak, who started game one
of Sunday’s doubleheader, pitched a stellar eight innings of shutout ball striking out six Aggies. The senior
received a no decision for the game as it was lost in the 10th inning of the scheduled seven inning game.
Offensively, Paxton DeLaGarza co-led the squad with five total hits for the series, while Christian Abilla and
Michael Urquidi each tallied a team second two RBIs. On the base paths senior Sam Kohler pocketed a team
high two stolen bases and scored three runs.

Tarleton State
Tarleton dropped two of three against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Texans will have one final chance to take over
the final playoff spot in the LSC Tournament this weekend when they visit Angelo State.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville went 2-1 last week at Tarleton State to remain tied atop the LSC standings... the Javelinas
are knotted up with Angelo State but hold the tiebreaker over the Rams... TAMUK heads to West Texas A&M to
close out the regular season.
West Texas A&M
The Buffs crossed the 30-win mark for the fourth consecutive year with a sweep of Eastern New Mexico this
weekend...WT won the opener 15-5 on Friday and swept a doubleheader 5-3 and 3-0 on Saturday...It also
marked the first time in program history WT has swept a season series from a conference team playing at both
sites in the season...WT won four games in Portales, N.M., at the end of March...The Buffs blanked ENMU three
times in the season series this year en route to the 7-0 series win...The Buffs hit .345 with 71 hits, 12 doubles,
six triples and three home runs, while scoring 52 runs and driving in 47...WT slugged .505 and reached base at
a .443 clip...Senior Brooks Trujillo was 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA in 15 innings, while senior Austin Moore also was
2-0 with a 1.26 ERA in 14.1 innings...More fanned 22, while Trujillo struck out 16...Senior Kyle Tinius had four
of his school single-season record 13 saves against ENMU, including two this weekend...Offensively, redshirt
freshman Christian Loya went 10 of 19 against ENMU with two doubles and a home run, while senior Mason
Shiflett also collected 10 hits (10 of 26) with three doubles...This past weekend, senior Trace Hansen returned
to the starting lineup for the firs time since Apr. 2 with a broken hand...He went 3 of 9 with a double, while
going 3 of 4 in stolen bases...The Buffs swept the series in Canyon with 36 hits, 23 runs, eight doubles, one triple
and one home run, while driving in 21...Tinius tallied the two record-breaking saves, while Trujillo started the
first and third games going 9.0 innings, allowing six hits, two walks and he fanned eight earning a combined
save in the finale...Tinius surpassed former Buff Paul Lujan’s record of 11 saves in 2014...Moore went 1-0 with
10 strikeouts and just one walk in 6.1 innings as he allowed six hits, three runs and two earned...Senior Nick
Chapman paced the team going 7 of 11 with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run and he drove in
two...He belted a solo shot on just the second pitch of the bottom of the first in the doubleheader Saturday...
The Buffs close the regular season this coming week with a huge series against TAMUK at Wilder Park...WT can
still win the outright LSC championship and conference tournament hosting duties with a sweep of TAMUK
and some help and also could earn a share of it but would most likely be playing on the road in the conference
tournament.
