Analysis Of The Poem Hawai I
Hawai i is known by the rest of the world primarily for its tropical weather, exquisite scenery, and
luxurious resorts. Millions of tourists visit Hawai i annually to forget their worries within this
universally perceived paradise.
For the indigenous people of Hawai i, whose ancestors have cultivated this land for generations, the
idea of paradise only conceals the enduring oppression that dictates their reality.
The oppression of native Hawaiians emerged during the 18th century with the attempts of western
settlers to colonize the archipelago and impose their beliefs on to the natives. Along with them
came diseases that collapsed the native population, while introduced plant and animal species
devastated the archipelago s delicate ecosystem.
On January 17th, 1893, the Hawaiian Monarchy was illegally overthrown by American
businessmen who called themselves the Republic of Hawai i. Since then, the native Hawaiian
population has been marginalized within their own homelands, while their lands were desecrated
by the imperialists of the United States.
In 1896, the Hawaiian language is prohibited by the United States federal government from all
public schools. Students who could only speak Hawaiian were either silenced or punished
severely under this law. In 1929, the military occupies Makua valley on the island of O ahu and
uses the land for training. From 1941 to 1990, the entire island of Kaho olawe was used as an
arena for military bombing practice.

Criminal Justice Systems Paper
Criminal Justice System Paper The criminal justice system and the criminal justice process has
shaped the laws of this country into what they are today from the concerns of politicians and
government leaders as far back as the 1800s with crime control. Basically, the criminal justice
system was designed to ensure the safety of individuals whom are citizens of this country.
Essentially, the criminal justicesystem is the structural basis used to maintain social control
(Education Decisions, 2010). The criminal justice system has many components that work
together to provide justice for criminals and victims of crimes. This enables violators of the law to
be prosecuted in a fair trial. The legal definition of a crimeis a wrong doing... Show more content on

An example of a felony committed would be an individual convicted of murder, rape, robbery, or
larceny. Misdemeanors are criminal offenses that are less serious than felonies and are generally
punishable by fines, jail terms of up to a year, or both. (West s Encyclopedia, 2010). An example
of a misdemeanor would be for an individual to be convicted of a traffic violation or jaywalking.
Infractions are the least serious of crimes. Infractions are not punishable by imprisonment. A
person charged with an infraction is not entitled to a trial by jury (California Penal Code, 2010).
Instead, infractions are punishable by monetary fines or restitution amounts. An example of an
infraction would be an individual given a speeding ticket or a ticket for running a red light. As one
can see, the criminal justice system and the laws set in place are about maintaining social order and
control.
Components of the Criminal Justice System The criminal justice system consists of various
components of law enforcement agencies. Such law enforcement agencies include local police
departments, criminal courts, and correctional facilities. The duties of a local police department
should include enforcing the law, investigating crimes, apprehending offenders, serving and
protecting individuals, and maintaining public order. Identifying various functions that are done
within the criminal court(s) systems are to

Romeo And Juliet Forbidden Love Quotes
In Shakespeare s Romeo Juliet , the 13 year old protagonist is faced with the tempting idea of
forbidden love. The true factor, which inevitably leads to Juliet s demise, was her lack of
experience in love, life, and marriage. Juliet s lack in experience was what brought her to meet
her end. But problems always originate from how one was raised, brought up, and grown into
the world by surrounding adults. In Juliet s case, her constant supervision was the nurse s
responsibility. In a way, the nurse fed Juliet s addiction to Romeo, even encouraged it at times.
Then hie you hence to Friar Lawrence s cell. There stays a husband to make you a wife. (III.v.
169) This quote demonstrates the fact that the nurse, instead of trying to steer Juliet off the path
of forbidden love, is in fact, helping her obtain a life with Romeo. While it is admirable that the
nurse cares for Juliet and wishes for her to live a happy life, the nurse s love for Juliet blinded her
ration and ability to think clearly. In turn, after having the adult that raised you accept your wishes,
no matter how inane they are, Juliet now, even more so than before, feels as though a life with
Romeo is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, this quote demonstrates the fact that Juliet is already willing to give up her family
name, in return for a life with Romeo. Perhaps, if Romeo was not there to hear her thoughts at the
moment, Juliet would have had the ability to dwell on her views a bit more, and in turn, realize
how soon everything was happening. Therefore, she would attempt to slow down the course of
action their relationship was obviously taking. First love is always exciting, but one has to keep
their head throughout it. Juliet simply jumped right in, headfirst, not a thought in mind of neither
the consequences nor the costs of her making rash choices at her 13 years, without pondering them

Justice In Dante s Inferno
Renowned poet Dante Alighieri lived in a tempestuous political and religious era. Fourteenth
century Italy was riddled with political factions, most notably the Guelphs and Ghibellines, which
were constantly engaged in conflict. This ongoing political and religious upheaval would
eventually lead to Dante s exile from Florence. After his banishment, Dante wrote The Divine
Comedy, an epic poem that sets up a flawless system of punishment, redemption and salvation. This
retributive structure, most readily apparent in the Inferno , heavily contrasts with the imperfect
earthly one that failed Dante. Although the primary message of the poem appears to be religious,
the Inferno gives insight into how Dante was making an inherently political statement.... Show more

The Black Guelphs came about from treachery in the form of a White cutting themselves off from
the rest of the faction and joining up with the religious fanatics who supported the corruption of
the church (Browning 54). Treachery was also one of the charges filed on Dante in his absence,
due to the fact that he supposedly stole money for his own personal gain (Harrison 2). Dante s
harsh condemnation of traitors of any nationality or religion may be seen as his way of attempting
to prove that he would never commit an act that

Camping Trip Persuasive Essay
We are going to have so much fun guys! this was one of many moments when I could confidently
say I don t believe I am my mother s child. She was talking about our upcoming camping trip for
spring break. While my friends went to Florida, South Carolina, and Hawaii, I was stuck driving 12
hours to my parents favorite campingspot in Maine. I can appreciate nature in small doses, yes
butterflies are cute, and waterfalls are beautiful. But I don t do camping. I mean why does
anyone? The bear warnings at the beginning of a camp site should be scary enough. But if that
doesn t do it for you, think of the lack of running water, heat (or AC), and hot meals. Counting that
day, I had a week left before being dragged to the woods.

I guess you re rooming with us kiddo! his smile was probably the worst part of all this. It s like the
forest was drugs and my dad was a happy addict.
After setting up the tent, our three sleeping bags were laid out. I fought to have the spot beside the
opening for the tent so I could open it if I got hot without stepping over two other bodies.
Now it was dinner time. My dad proudly told the story of his first time camping, and the hunt he
went on for his dinner. Thankfully, we wouldn t have to hunt down our dinner tonight. We had the
slightly better alternative, canned beans. I lost my appetite looking at the slimy concoction, and let
me not even get started on the flavor.
Alright, this day didn t go exactly as planned my mom glanced over to the pathetic pile that should

I ve been sitting in this tent for about two hours now. I guess a nice little walk would be the best
way to cure this homesickness of sorts.
Leaving my tent was hard, thankfully my parents sleep like their hibernating. At home I love to
go on walk through the neighborhood. This sure isn t home though, my thin flip flops have a
thick layer of mud caked under them. The twigs and leaves I keep stepping on cause me to jump, I
probably look like a baby deer just learning to walk. Speaking of which, I ve seen barely any

People Conform To The Environment In Malcolm Gladwell s...
The general argument made by author Malcolm Gladwell in his work, Power of Context, is that
people conform to their environment. More specifically, Gladwell argues that environment is what
controls how and why a person reacts to a certain situation. He writes, The Broken Windows
Theory. In this passage, Gladwell is suggesting that if ones community is poor then people will
tend to make poor decisions. In conclusion, Gladwell s belief is that little tipping points will slowly
and effectively change the environment they live in.
I believe, The Broken Windows theory plays an enormous role in the environment around oneself.
Due to the fact that the train station choose to clean every single one of the carts that came through
and placing security guards at stations to not allow people to sneak into the trains. By doing these
things, this did not manipulate the on goers that saw this but it allowed everyone to see how to be a
role model. These little things that the Gunn and William Bratton choose to do set the community
up for excellence rather than failure.
Gladwell states that if Goetz would have met up with the four young black men in a different place
the shooting most likely would not have taken place. Because the train station was treated like trash
Goetz first off had the feeling beforehand to carry a gun onto the train. By paying attention to such
little details such as the graffiti it could change the mindset of many of the hoodlums around.
Malcom says that Gunn drew up a new management structure and a precise set of goals and
timetables aimed at cleaning the systems line by line, train by train. He started with the number
seven train that connects Queens to midtown Manhattan, and began experimenting with new
techniques to clean off the paint. He also states that Gunn is going to be religious about cleaning
every train.
Gladwell believes that human behavior is more fully formed due to the community around. You
can try to adapt to a different cultures but you are just going to fall right into what the people are
doing around you. If the people around you are committing crimes, then you are tempted to do the
exact same thing. Gladwell states, It says that crime is

Hypertension is unusual, and in patients with a history of hypertension, spontaneous resolution of
hypertension over the preceding few months is common. Pulmonary exam reveals bilateral pleural

effusions in a patient with AL amyloidosis may simply represent heart failure, but patients with
cardiac amyloid may also have pleural infiltration with amyloid, resulting in disproportionately large
effusions that are diuretic resistant and rapidly recur after a pleural tap. Splenomegaly is rare,

in an attempt to tap into the market. Between 2003 and 2011, Decathlon established multiple retail
stores in large cities across the country all the while competing with local brands and other large
firms such as Nike and Adidas. During this time Decathlon was preparing to launch their Chinese
version of their site allowing for online sales. Aaron Zhou, the ecommerce department head, had
been experimenting with social media advertisingin an attempt to increase brand awareness with
the online shoppers of China. He approached brand awareness through two main social media
platforms. First was 8264.com, an outdoor activity website. Instead of fighting for add space on
the front page, they placed there ad on bbs.8264.com, the bulletin board and discussion area of the
site. To measure effectiveness they used a conversion rate based on purchase order per visit from
8246. While they were targeting a fantastic demo graphic, they discovered that they could generate
brand awareness, but unfortunate they had a low conversion rate. The individuals on the site
seemed to be focused on social aspects, not sales. Second with through micro blogs on Sina Weibo.

Aquinas’ Cosmological Arguments Essay
Aquinas Cosmological Arguments
The Cosmological Argument for the existence of God, as propounded by Thomas Aquinas, is also
known as the Third Way. It is the Third of Five ways in Aquinas s masterpiece, The Summa (The
Five Ways). The five ways are: the unmoved mover, the uncaused causer, possibility and necessity,
goodness, truth and nobility and the last way the teleological.
The first three ways are different variations of the cosmological argument.
The Cosmological argument is developed around a distinction between that which has necessary
existence and that, which is contingent. A thing that has necessary existence must exist in all
possible worlds, whereas a thing that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aquinas seems to presuppose the first of these two claims without argument. The argument for the
second appears to be this:
1. An object can change from not having property G to having G only if the object is potentially
G but not actually G. 2. The cause of an object s becoming G must itself actually be G. 3.
Therefore, a thing cannot cause itself to acquire a property.
He believed everything that is in motion (change) is moved (changed) by something else.
Infinite regress is impossible. Therefore there must be a first mover (changer).
His emphasis was on dependency; Christian theology has always taught that God sustains the
universe. In other words, if God ceased to exist then the universe would also cease. Therefore there
must be and an initiator of the change whose continued existence is depended upon. For example a
play depends on the continued existence of actors. This type of casual relationship is what Aquinas
had in mind.
Overall the first cause argument is:
a) Everything has a cause
b) Therefore the universe (cosmos) has a cause
c) That cause is God
d) Therefore God exists.
For this to follow Aquinas has to exclude the possibility of infinite regression; i.e. events with their
previous causes going back in time forever).

Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac
1.During the great depression in 1934 many people didn t have jobs. Not having jobs meant that it
would be awfully hard for them to obtain a loan from banks in order to purchase homes. The
government decided to help the American people by creating the Federal Housing Administration
(FHA) which basically stepped in and allowed banks to offer mortgages to more people with the
promise that the banks would get their money back. The FHA finances itself with insurance
premiums that they charge borrowers as well as interest that they receive on reserves. They use
these funds to underwrite more loans which helps out people with their mortgages.
Two other government sponsored enterprises are Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They were built by
congress to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, the government should take a step back and not be involved in the USA housing
market any longer. The reason behind my thinking has to do with the new president we have in
the White House. President has come out and said that he has a new tax reform plan that s
supposed to have significant changes not only to personal taxes but corporate taxes as well.
Trump has said that he wants to lower the corporate tax rate from the current 35% to 20, maybe
even 15% which is great news for corporations but not so great when it comes to Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac. The reason that this would be bad for these enterprises is because they are under
conservatorship and cutting the corporate tax rate would force these enterprises to once again
need a bailout. Being under conservatorship means that for every quarter Fannie Mae and Freddie
Mac make a profit, they have to pay dividends to the department of treasury and at the same time
they aren t allowed to rebuild capital but instead their capital base is diminished as time passes
which means that in 2018 they will have not one penny remaining in their capital reserves.
Furthermore, lower corporate tax rates mean that Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac will have
significant deferred tax asset write downs...which, in turn, could lead to the GSE s need an
additional draw from the Treasury to cover tax related losses (Housingwire). To reiterate my point
once again, I believe that the government shouldn t continue its involvement in the

Critical Analysis Model
A Critical Analysis of The Kaya Identity:
OLS Estimator Modeling, Variable Specification, Renewable Energy, and Multicollinearity
Laurie Alexis Sauvageau Robillard
Clarkson University
April 29,2017
Abstract
The following analysis attempts to understand how to best formulate a stochastic model using
empirical data and the proposed Kaya Identity, as well as further explore components of the IPAT
equation that measures human impact on the surrounding ecological system. Using Quarterly Data
from the United States from 1980 2016, an econometric critique and environmental exploration of
datasets, regression functions, and pitfalls of the latter will help further examine previous works on
the use of the Kaya Identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is in turn beneficial to understand the underlying forces at work affecting these
numbers. This can be assisted using scientific models. The fields of study of energy economy and
environmental economy thus play pivotal roles in modeling these equations. Initially proposed by
Yoichi Kaya in 1980, the Kaya Identity is an econometric model which proposes to calculate Co2
emissions using 4 variables strongly associated with industry analysis: GDP Per Capita, Energy
Intensity, Carbon Intensity, and Population. More broadly, the intergovernmental panel and
sustainable scale project uses the Kaya Identity alongside a general model to calculate human
footprint called IPAT to help determine correlations amongst governmental policies and subsequent
ecological implications. IPAT structures a more multiplicative equation to encompass all the
possible variables to calculate the degradation of the environment and aggregate human impact on
surrounding ecosystems (Waggoner, 2002). Variables include Environmental impacts (resource
depletion and waste), effect of population, affluence and effect of consumption levels, and
technology used to transform goods into

Art Therapy Adolescents
Future research should examine the use of art therapy with specific diagnostic populations in an
effort to more target groups who benefit most from this form of intervention. One of the personal
advantages taken from the process of completing this assignment has been the opportunity to reflect

what has been learned through experience about the needs of the adolescent client especially with
my internship this spring semester.
Art therapy with adolescents with depression can be a successful modality of treatment because it
allows the client to be able to control communication. The adolescent can create whatever they want
and can choose share what they choose. For some adolescents nonverbal communication is more
comfortable than attempting to put feelings into words. This is a new generation. Verbal
communication is pushed aside by the use of technology. The adolescent can also feel respected

can reinforce a sense of respect within the client. The adolescent can project their viewpoints;

Analysis Of Ask Me If I Care And Safari Essay
Women have a few common tropes in literature. Seen as submissive to men, and sexualized
because of it, women are presented as less than. While this has been strayed from a little bit in
modern literature with the engagement of queer writers, it is still very much the normal view of
women, due to a society in which the view on women is that of being less than. The short stories
Ask Me if I Care and Safari by Jennifer Egan both perpetuate this idea of women as submissive.
Egan presents female characters who only exist in the context of men, thus leaving them to be seen
as inferior to the men. These tropes of women in literature, and Egan s use of them, fit into the
larger conversation: there is a degradation of women in literature due to common conceptions of
women in society.
Egan presents multiple female characters in Ask Me if I Care . The short story touches on a group
of friends, and in this group are the two characters of Rhea and Jocelyn both female. While they
may seem to be presented differently, Rhea as a not interested in being sexualized character and
Jocelyn as a sexualizes herself character, both ultimately play into the trope of submissive and
degraded women. Rhea, from the beginning, is portrayed as needing men: Still, if it s Bennie and
me I hope for the back, so that I can push against his shoulder in the cold, and hold him for a
second when we hit a bump (Egan, Ask Me ). While this may seem innocuous, it is the first
introduction to Rhea. The very

Summary Of Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
In Sylvia Plath s autobiographical novel, The Bell Jar, Plath journeys through the mental
deterioration and reconstruction of Esther Greenwood. Sylvia Plath, college educated and
highly independent when she was a young adult in the fifties, was often described as the girl
who wanted to be God. (Barnard) Plath always had a passion for English and writing, and in
most of her works, she exhibits dark and unnerving themes. Assumingly, this dark tone is derived
from her father s death and cruel departure from her beloved home near the sea when she was
eight years old. Plath also had to surmount her constant repression of personality as people, men in
particular, criticized her for being too brainy . While being a renowned author, Plath is most known
for her abstract poems and novels that showcase intellectual and deranged topics. (Barnard). The
Bell Jaris no exception to this standard. Much like Plath herself, Esther Greenwood is depressed
and has a cool and detached manner. Esther s mental state, or lack thereof, is diminished by
doubtful attitudes of others and finally rebuilt through the trusting and deserved therapy of Doctor
Nolan. The novel narrated Esther s downward spiral as she goes from able bodied and healthy to
detached to suicidal and, finally, to her recovery. As Esther s city based internship is coming to an
end, Esther begins feeling inadequate and unhappy. As her depression deepens, coddling and
condescending people send Esther into a negative spiral. After

The Pros And Cons Of Baseball
According to the article, Quotations About Baseball (2017), Bill Veeck stated, That s the true
harbinger of spring, not crocuses or swallows returning to Capistrano, but the sound of a bat on a
ball. See what s crazy is this quote can apply to so much. As everyone loves when springtime rolls
around, avid sport lovers are eager for spring athletics. Known as America s pastime, baseballhas
been loved amongst the country since its creation in 1836. According to the chart, Top 10 List
of the World s Most Popular Sports (2017), lists baseball as number seven and boasts a whopping
five hundred million fans . Being an average American, I notice how Americans close their mind
to their beloved spring athletics. Past the ocean borders beholds land with totally different
cultures. Where America has baseball, Asia, Australia, and the United Kingdom all turn their eyes
toward a sport that originated in 1877, cricket. Top 10 List of the World s Most Popular Sports
(2017) lists cricket as the second most popular sport in the world entrancing over 2.5 billion fans .
While baseball is so popular in the United States, cricket rules the eastern hemisphere with five
times the number of fans. The two sports are similar and different on multiple aspects, an argument
definitely arises when discussing the difficulty between the two. Each sport has their own attributes
to declare better or more challenging than the other. I believe it s all a matter of opinion, facts, and

Global Trade is one of an essential activity that undertakes between two nations in a modern world

Essay on The Story of Doctor Faustus
The Story of Doctor Faustus
The story of Doctor Faustus is a familiar myth, in which the main character sells his soul , makes
a deal with the devil, for something he speciously holds more valuable. There are many versions
of this story in our culture, and it would take quite a time to make note of them all. Most people
will have seen or heard one of the various stories in the for of a book, play, movie, or television
show. The original story of Doctor Faustus, as created by Christopher Marlow, was prevalent to
society at the time because it spoke to people s growing dizzy awareness of their possibilities and
capabilities at this time. By that explanation it seems that the classic Marlow play, Doctor Faustus,
would also be a hit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to complete the adaptation of the play to today s standards, keeping in mind the main
character is a female, and in an attempt to involve the audience in what is going on both
metatheatrically and thematically in the play, there a few scenes in particular which I would
highlight to get some newly made effects and concepts of the story across more effectively. One
scene I would highlight is act 1, scene 3. This is the scene where Faustesse sets out the terms of
her pact with the devil. I would highlight this part for a number of reasons. First off, Faustesse
jumps when she first sees Mephostophilis. I feel this is a very important aspect of the play
because in one moment it shows a theme which is as prevalent at the end of the play as much as
it is at the beginning. When Faustesse jumps at the sight of the Devil and orders him back in a
different shape it shows that maybe she is not necessarily ready to take on the Devil to get what
she wants, and that Hell and other such things in the same league are not really what Faustesse is
looking for to solve her problems, and that such experiences are not really suited to her, and

Who had the more difficult choice? This question is very dependant on two important key
factors. The reader s values, and the reader s experiences. However, for me I believe that the
choice made in Cover ups was the more toilsome task. Although this may also be in part to the
tone of the passages. The reading peice Good Guys Always Win was much more juvenile and light
minded, while Cover ups had a contrasting, darker tone. The biggest conflict verbally noted in
Good Guys Always Win was him turning down money, a cute girl, and avoiding a bully who really
all just wanted one small thing, with lighthearted, exaggerated jokes made throughout, setting up a
much friendlier tune, which diminishes the size and power of the conflict. I believe... Show more

Contemplate any times you had to keep a secret, keeping something hidden that you knew would
have a negative outcome if release, despite the constant tugging at the back of your mind to tell

close to the pain that this secret had most likely been putting Mrs. Kittredge through. However,

The Military Draft is Unconstitutional Essay
There is a Time and a place for everything, for instance there were times when a militarized force
wasn t nearly large enough for an impending war as necessary to stand even that of a fighting
chance towards victory. Our nation s solution to this problem was creating the military draft,
which most recently was used during the Vietnam War. The military draft, or Selective Service
System, is Conscription, or in other words forced labor demanded by some established authority
(Worddiq). From 1948 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted
to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means.
(Landscaper) 2/3 of the American troops entered in that war were volunteers, while... Show more

At the constant incline of students enlisting in the military and the re enlistment rate of soldiers
being 137% of the predicted rate, there would be no physical need for a draft. (Griffin)The
constant growth of the American Military only proves the fact that a military draft isn t as
necessary as it was in previous years, or previous wars, such as the Chinese Civil War, Greek
Civil War, First Indochina War, Korean War, and lastly the Second Indochina War, or Vietnam
War. A draft at this time in American history would cause the nation s debt to raise more, due to
the cost for equipment on all drafted soldiers, training, and the shipping or flying to their
necessary stations. The Government would also have to pay the draftees for their services
causing the nations treasury to further plummet into oblivion, however with no draft in place the
chances of a soldier in the American Military with no real desire to be there, or without actually
being physically fit or durable enough to last being enlisted, are slim to none. A draft for any
military, not just the American military alone, would exclude those in which would voluntarily
give their service to their Country, State, Province, or any other geographic area with its own
military. Sheldon Richmond argues that, The draft has no place in a free society because it is
slavery; the kind that can get you killed or put you in a position where

Argument On Virtue In Meno
Virtue In Plato s Meno, Socrates presents two different arguments in his attempt to define virtue.
One of his arguments is presented in 71e 73c, where Socrates argues that virtue has unity to it and
that simply giving examples of virtue will not tell us what virtue itself is. His second argument is
given in 87b 89c, where Socrates presents the idea that virtuemust be a kind of knowledge that
makes other goods such as wealth, health or courage worthwhile. I believe that the stronger
argument here is that virtue must be a kind of knowledge, because without knowledge nothing is
beneficial or good in the world. Without knowledge one is more likely to make mistakes and put

The Enchanted Bluff Essay example
The Enchanted Bluff
The Enchanted Bluff , by Willa Cather, takes place in the bare cornfields of Nebraska during the
early 1900 s where only rivers liven up the landscape. Six boys delve into the idea of a city on
top of a bluff in the desert, they become captivated with the idea of visiting the bluff. The boys
eagerly discuss ways of dominating this mystifying bluff: throwing up a ladder, or using a rocket.
All the boys vow to get to the bluff some day. Twenty years pass and none visit it. One of the
young boys tells the story to his son and his son thinks of nothing else but the bluff. The author
does an excellent job of providing vivid imagery throughout the story, which helps the read to

taught the best of all philosophies, that of love, hard work, and courage (Wells) . Through the
tone of this story, the reader easily senses that this old fashioned town run with hard work and
honesty is careless. The author does an excellent job of describing individuals in the town such
as, Percy Pound who took half a dozen boys story papers and was always kept in reading
detective stories behind the desk (Cather 413). Cather s writing style shows an unhampered zest
for enjoyment (Wells). The reader gets the feeling that the character Percy Pound is a young laid
back inquisitive boy who likes adventures. Willa Cather not only uses local color to show
descriptions of the characters in the story but also in conveying the setting.
Willa Cather provides vivid imagery throughout the story to set the relaxed tone. The reader
imagines a very descriptive portrait of the boys hometown when the story mentions how the
oblique rays of the light made a dazzling glare on the white sand about us (Cather 411). Realities
and fantasies...her art is a method of preserving the wonder of youthful happiness (Wells). When

Argumentative Essay On Twisted Heroes
The word hero is often associated with words that depict an ideal hero such as brave, strong,
good hearted, and trustworthy. Heroes are often seen as police officers, firefighters, first
responders, and service men and women. Hero has a positive connotation that gives the feeling of
safety. Thinking back to one s childhood is a prime example of the feeling of safety one had in the
presence of a herosuch as a firefighter or police officer who went to schools to teach children about
fire safety and emergency situations. Despite the the idea that heroes are easily identified, there are,
however, many unrecognizable heroes known as twisted heroes. A twisted hero is at first is

Disadvantages Of Commercial Arbitration
Advantages of Commercial Arbitration National and International
1.Relative costs and speed of commercial arbitration and litigation.
The costs and efficiency of different dispute resolution mechanisms vary from time to time and
place to place. Nonetheless, there have been recurrent complaints from commercial users, as well as
individuals, about the delays and expenses imposed by many national court systems..
In considering the relative cost and speed of international arbitration versus litigation, it is important
to take into account the likelihood of jurisdictional disputes and parallel proceedings. Suppose
Japanese and a French company enter into a long term sales agreement, which leads to disputes.
Assuming there is no agreement to arbitrate such disputes, what is likely to occur after efforts to
amicably settle the disputes fail? Where is the Japanese company likely to want the parties disputes
resolved? The French company? What happens if both companies pursue their favoured means of
dispute resolution? What happens if each company succeeds in obtaining a judgment in its favour
from its local courts?

Jean Piaget s Developments Of Human Cognitive Development
Jean Piaget was the first Swiss psychologist to study the systematic human cognitive
development. He was fascinated about how the way children think and how children gain their
knowledge as they grow up. His studies help him to understand that children s cognitive
development changes as they mature and with the experiences they learn in the environment.
Cognitive development is the development of memory, thinking, and problem solving
(Ciccarelli, 2012). With his studies, he proposed that cognitive development occurs in 4 age
related stages: sensorimotor, pre operational, concrete operations, and formal operations (Leifer,
2015). The pre operational stage is the early childhood development ages between 2 to 7 years
old. Children in this stage are very focused on learning their symbolic thought, especially concepts
and language. They assume the very stereotypical act of a child, believing in fantastical characters
like the Easter bunny and his ilk and believing that the act of locomotion means that something has
life. They can imagine to a basic extent and are capable of using items as symbols for other items.
Piaget claimed that children in this stage experience egocentrism, which refers to inability to see
the world through anyone else s eyes (Ciccarelli, 2012). Children are self centered and they think
that world entirely from their own personal perspective. They also focus mostly on appearances
when concerning logic and they basically understand only the things

Saving Private Ryan Ethics
Saving Private Ryan is a film based during World War II. The main characters of the movie are
elite soldiers out of the 2nd ranger battalion. The soldiers of the 2nd ranger Battalion were part
of the initial invasion and were vital in the taking of Normandy beach. This was just the
beginning for this group of soldiers destined for a mission save Private James Francis Ryan. The
major ethical debate started in the United States Chief of Staff s office following the discovery
that a mother would receive three telegrams on the same day informing her that three of her four
sons had died in combat. In the office the group weighs the decision to pull out her only
surviving son from behind enemy lines and send him home safely. Private Ryan was in the 101
airborne division and missed there drop deep behind enemy lines and there exact whereabouts
are unknown. The group is split between risking men s lives to save one man, presuming he is
alive, and a sense of responsibility to the mother of the boys to bring her one son back safely.

Non Verbal Communication And Nonverbal Communication
One of the areas studied in psychology is the use of Non Verbal Communication (NVC).
According to the Collins dictionary, this is defined as those aspects of communication, such as
gestures and facial expressions, that do not involve communication, but which may include non
verbal aspects of speech itself (accent, tone of voice, speed of speaking, etc) . Used daily by
humans and animals (Darwin 1972), NVC has a strong link to innate factors, and messages are
sent unconsciously to the listener. Through body language, we can deliver simple messages which
can aid or replace speech, show attitude or emotion, and with 55% of what we say being delivered
through body language, and 38% dedicated to tone, it can sometimes contradict our verbal... Show

The study was carried out by collecting photographs, drawings and video footage to allow for a
large sample of international gestures, and as there were no guidelines for judging NVC at this
time, we are not able to question the validity of these approaches. It was noted in the study that
when filming, and asking people to repeat gestures, the actions became more awkward and
unnatural, therefor procedures where changed to ensure only first, natural performances of the
gesture were recorded.
The findings showed that they hypothesis was correct as in there are differences in gestures across
the cultures, but there can also be variations within that cultures. It also discovered that to collect
accurate recordable data, video footage was the best option. This was due to photographs and
drawings not giving enough information for someone to repeat the gesture correctly. Still drawings
do not show the full motion of the gesture, the facial expression that coincides with it or the speed
at which the gesture is delivered. The advantage of filming also meant that footage could be
reviewed to allow even small gestures being noted. Findings were delivered in a short film A

Linux And Windows Comparison Essay
A Comparison of Linux amp; Windows
Abstract
There are a number of operating systems available for personal use as well as small and large
businesses. Probably the two most popular are Linux and Windows. In order to determine what
operating system best suits your needs, it s important to know some background on Linux and
Windows. Some important factors to consider in the selection of an operating system are what
are some of the things that make Linux and Windows appealing and what are some of their
drawbacks. In today s economic conditions, it s vital for companies to try and keep costs down.
This paper will also look at the cost of each operating system. Based on all of these factors, one of
the operating systems is recommended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using either GNOME or KDE, you can decide what interface you want and then add only the
features that fit your needs quickly and easily. If you are concerned with standardization, do not
worry. Linux sticks to the Unix standards. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers put
together the American National Standards Institute for Unix named the Portable Operating System
Interface for Computer Environments. It dictates a universal standard on how the Unix based
systems are supposed to operate. (Asprey amp; Seruzzi, 2008) Linux has three major
components the file structure, kernel, and environment. The file structure does what its name
implies, puts files in a specific order on any storage device. They are arranged in a hierarchy of
directories and one or more subdirectories all of which contain files. These directories are all
interconnected. With the exception of the standard directories that are set aside for system use,
users have full control of the files inside the directories. They can create and move directories,
move files between directories, share or restrict directories and files just by setting directory and
file permissions. (Asprey amp; Seruzzi, 2008) The kernel is really the heart of Linux. Its job is to
operate all the programs and manage the attached hardware devices. In order to put these kernels to
work and operate any computer operating system,

Sex Crime Research Paper
Sex crimes are defined as crimes that involve illegal or coerced sexual activity. Rape, sodomy,
sexual battery and any attempts to commit these types or similar types of crimes are considered
to be offenses. Sexual crimes can be an element of other criminal activities such as stalking and
domestic violence. While sex laws greatly vary across different jurisdictions and times, laws
regulating sexual activity often have different intentions. These laws can be intended to protect
participants or to forbid a socially, morally or religiously distasteful activity. One who commits a
sex crime is known as a sex offender. While there are a wide range of sex crimes including incest,
sodomy and public indecency, I will focus primarily on victims... Show more content on

This means that if one does not wish to speak to a medical or law enforcement personnel, they are
not required to. However, the victim can also confidentially talk to a sexual assault victim advocate.
Sexual assault victim advocates are required to go through Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor
Training (SAACT). This training helps to teach advocates about advocacy and counseling and the
realities and impact of sexual assault, procedures to follow in common situations, techniques to
support recovery and compassion fatigue and self care. This is a two day curriculum that focuses
more on crisis situations rather than for long term counseling.
A victim also has the ability to report a sexual assault to identify the suspect to help determine
patterns of sexual crimes in the community but not to prosecute. However, when a victim decides
to report to the crime to the local law enforcement agency and to press charges, there are various
steps that need to be followed. This includes an initial law enforcement officer s interview, medical
examination, investigator s interview, prosecutor s interview and court procedures. Services such as
these are funded through tax

Essay on Attending High School
High School
Do you remember your high school days? High school
for me has proved to be a learning experience and also a
challenge. There are many lessons that can be learned.
You can learn more about yourself, who your friends are,
what kind of help is offered to you, and what your
strengths and your weaknesses are. Attending
High School helped build my confidence because my
classmates were supportive, my teachers taught me how to
study for tests, and the math tutors helped me overcome
my fear of math.
My classmates were supportive in many ways. I used
to attend study groups for the subjects that I was
struggling in. In these meetings with each other,we
would study our notes and review ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most students would wait until the last
minute to study and try to cram all the information on a
test in one night. But my teachers stressed that studying
a little bit at a time would be the best way to go about
learning the material. Another way they tried to provoke
studying would be by telling us to study in a group.
This method worked, but the method that I found that
helped me the most was by using flash cards. It was a
good way of studying especially for a test that had lots
of definitions on it. But I found it much easier to look at
a single piece of information instead of a whole page of
notes at one time. Overall, teachers do not just teach you
the facts from the books. They can help you sharpen your
study skills by showing you new ways of learning.
Lastly, the tutors at the school helped me to overcome my
biggest fear and that was math. They helped me realize
that if you take math one step at a time, it will be a
lot easier than trying to learn it all at once. The
tutors also made it easier for me by teaching me to
relate math to something I enjoy. A simple example would be
if you were having problems with percents. And they would
tell you to relate it to something like when you go shopping
and clothes have a certain discount. It carries the same
principle. And this method can help you overcome a fear

Anna Funder s Investigative Account Of The Traumas...
Anna Funder s investigative account of the traumas experienced during the totalitarian governance
of the GDR (German Democratic Republic), Stasiland, presents an historical account of life under
the communist regime and behind the Berlin Wall, an historical account which manifests in the
personal stories, descriptions of the remnants of the East German government. Funder presents
interviews of victims of the GDR to create a tangible account of the power held by the government.
She further conveys the historical importance of the former Stasioperatives to be powerful in
presenting a complete depiction of East German society. However, it is also through Funder s
presentation of the former East Germanyto be permeated by its history that creates her powerful
portrayal of East Germany.
In Funder s depiction of personal reflections she affords the Stasi victims the ability to present a
powerful account of the GDR. By demonstrating the victims to have been inflicted with sustained
trauma, evidenced by Julia s apprehensive stance towards Funder when revealing her story by
seeking to rapidly depart asserting I ve... got a class , and leaving Funder to contemplate their
conversation due to an appointment she had forgotten. Such reservation when revealing her
experiences with the Stasi is indicative of the Julia s Stasi ordeal to continue to permeate her life.
This further provides Funder with a powerful foundation for her account by proving the Stasi
intrusion on the victims to

Slaughterhouse Five Analysis
The Nonsense of war
Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt Vonnegut is a book about Billy Pilgrim s experience
throughout World War 2 (WW2). The author uses many key phrase s throughout the book but one
that caught the readers attention was when the author puts a bird saying Poo tee weet (Vonnegut,
19) in the novel. This quote is one of the smallest but holds the grandest meaning. Kurt Vonnegut
uses many phrases in his story to prove a point and drive in the fact that the story is an anti war
novel, but the best phrase he used to make this point was Poo tee weet . The author foreshadows
what is going to happen throughout the whole book by saying And what do the birds say? All
there is to say about a massacre, things like Poo tee weet? (19). ... Show more content on

To the birds the bombing was just another thing that happened in their lifetime, they keep
chirping as if nothing had happened, and in such a way that it shows they were unaffected by
the events that just unraveled around them. This is much like the Tralfamadorians who don t
believe in free will because, they have the knowledge of fourth dimensions and see that all
pieces of time have already been laid out and are repeating. With this knowledge the
Tralfamadorians aren t going to be surprised or impacted by the bombings and war because they
have already seen it happen a multitude of times. This could greatly improve the impact of an anti
war novel because it symbolizes the folly of man. It shows that humans as a whole know that war
is a senseless act that doesn t accomplish anything, and only causes sadness and death, but instead
of learning from are mistakes in the past, and figuring out new ways to solve conflicts between
countries, we continued to fight wars with no end. After World War 1(WW1) author Ernest
Hemingway called the generation that came to age during WW1 The Lost Generation , because of
the astonishing 35 Million casualties (ww1facts.net, 1) that were lost during the war. With
casualties this high it would make sense to figure out a different way to settle disagreements

Iran Political Dynamic Essay
The Iranian Political Dynamic
One of the misconceptions of modernization was that societies would secularize as they
modernized. This formed the tenets of post war modernization theories. Notably, the end of
world war two was characterized by the decline of religious faiths and secularization of societies,
especially in Britain and America. This paradigm fitted the idea of development and breaking
free from the yoke of poverty, hunger, diseases and other social problems. As such, it was
believed that progress would only be achieved at the expense of religion. However, over the past
decades, countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran have evolved into industrialized economies
with religion at the heart of their growth . It has, therefore, become a point of studies on religious
fundamentalism.
The Iranian revolution of 1978 to 1980 changed Iran s political system. The Iranian political
system is based on an agglomeration of politics and religion. The head of this unique political
system is the supreme religious leader: the Ayatollah. Notably, the Shite clergy rule over Iran and
as such, it embodies the absolute supremacy of Islam. The political system is also a fusion of
theocracy and democracy. On one end, it limits pluralism and on the other it allows election of
leaders through a public general election. The constitution of Iran allows popular sovereignty and
blend it with the rule of jurisconsults. In this respect, institutions are governed by the clergy, while

Personal Diet and Weight Loss Management Analysis Essay
Personal Diet and Weight Loss Management Analysis
Each morning I get on the scales and hope that I can celebrate losing a pound or two. The
numbers I see on the scale represent a gauge that keeps me moving forward in a weight loss
program. When I look at the numbers on the scale I realize I am making progress in losing weight,
however, am I putting my body at more risk just by limiting certain foods? Comparing and
contrasting my typical diet to the amounts of daily nutrients recommended in the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Guide Pyramid has proven that I am not a healthy eater. I
may have to make some dramatic changes or face significant health issues in the future. After
reviewing several plans, I have chosen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My overall eating habits are poor and unfortunately reflect consistency with other Americans where
it is thought that only three percent of all individuals meet four of the five recommendations for the
intake of grains, fruits, vegetables, milk product, and meat and bean food groups (HealthierUS.Gov,
2005).
USDA Guide to Daily Food Choices
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/Fpyr/pmap.html
The analysis of my diet quickly leads to the next step where I identified the highest health risk
alerts associated with my eating habits. These include: diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease and
cancer. The risk factors contributing to diabetes include only having a moderate amount of
exercise, being overweight, having a low intake of fiber and having a sweet tooth. The weight gain
can be attributed in part due to aging but also a diet high in carbohydrates and fat.
I am at risk for osteoporosis due to the fact that I do not have enough calcium or iron in my diet
and lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle. Increasing my intake of milk and dairy products will meet the
nutritional recommendations and a program of weight bearing exercise will also contribute to
reducing the risk of this disease. Additionally, I will schedule a bone density test as part of my
next physical exam as an integral part of assessing my bone status for this disease.
Heart disease, especially hypertension, is a possible health risk as my sodium intake is not consistent

AI Essay
As I was listening to Harris speech, I noticed that a lot of what he had to say matched my latest
thoughts about AI. Harris mentioned that the most worrisome thing about the development of AI
at this point is that people seem unable to arrange an appropriate response to the dangers that
may come from AI. I agree with Harris because I have noticed that when I have a conversation
about AI with someone, most people don t know much about it to gather and create an emotional
response to it, and the people that do know some information about AI seem to not really feel
threatened by it. I think that most people believe that AI is so far fetched and will probably never

I agreed with a few things that Ronson shared in his speech, I agree that a lot of people on social
media have the mentality that when a powerful person misuses their privilege, they are prepared
to attack. It is like if people are trying to keep others in their place from doing what they consider
to be wrongful. I feel as if people like to attack others when they make a subtle mistake in
organizing words that best express their thought or in the case that Ronson focused on when
someone doesn t understand one s humor and decides to exploit them. But why? Well, my
theory is that people like to feel powerful and we also like to feel like we are doing something
good for the vast majority. However, how we decide to protect others seems kind of brutal. In
social media, one has to be careful with what one decides to share because it can be so easily be
misinterpreted. A misinterpretation can lead straight to online shaming. People with like views
will begin to gather to protect the people that they believe are being attacked in an inappropriate
way. And the way people decide to protect others is very mean. I don t think they really
understand the power of what they have to say especially when a huge group gathers with alike
opinions. Ronson shared a case of a woman who decided to

Rain drops splashed on top of the rooftop as the sun began to set .Amber hopped of the counter in
the kitchen and walked over to the fireplace were we were all sitting at. I opened up a can of
ravioli and poured it in a pan and began to warm it up on my portable cooking stove. Amber sat
beside me as we felt the warmth of the fireplace. Eve was rocking back in forth in the corner her
face in her knees eyes not blinking as she seemed to be in deep thought. I focused my attention on
Isamu who was staring out the window staring at the rain his hands behind his back probably
contemplating what he will say. He turned around and looked at me and Amber and released his
hands behind his back .
I am going to just cut to the chase I have kept you two waiting for a very long time and I have
come to terms of my fate.
Me and Amber looked at one another unsure of what he meant by his fate.

A New Angle On Car Safety
According to Chris Urmson, 1.2 million people are killed on the world s roads every year. In
America alone, 33,000 people are killed each year (Urmson). Urmson is the Director of Self
Driving Cars at Google, and in March of 2015 he presented a TED Talk in which he addressed
issues of car safety. In his presentation, Urmson goes on to explain that for over a century,
America has come up with ways to mitigate car safety issues. Manufacturers have specifically
addressed the fact that car drivers often err, and in so doing, create unsafe conditions for
themselves and others on the roads. To address this, vehicles have been revamped to be more
structurally sound, and collision safety features have been added, such as air bags and seatbelts....

(Urmson). Driverless cars also have other sensors, including four radars, a GPS, an inertial
measurement unit, and a wheel encoder. The radars detect obstacles. The GPS, inertial
measurement unit, and the wheel encoder determine where autonomous vehicles are currently
and track where they go (Guizzo). Incorporating Vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication in self
driving cars would provide additional safety. V2V is the technology that allows cars to
exchange information such as speed, direction, location and other data with one another. This
technology is also useful for vehicles with drivers because it allows them to receive a warning
of unexpected events and enables them to react quickly, thus improving safety. For instance, if a
driver ahead quickly presses the brakes, nearby cars will get a warning that allows them to react
promptly. If a car is speeding in a curve, the driver in the car will get a warning that indicates that
they re going too fast and need to slow down. Vehicle to vehicle communication also allows roads
to talk to cars about traffic jams, road work, and road conditions. If there s black ice ahead, the
driver will get a warning indicating the hazard. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, there could be 600,000 fewer crashes involving

  • 2. Analysis Of The Poem Hawai I Hawai i is known by the rest of the world primarily for its tropical weather, exquisite scenery, and luxurious resorts. Millions of tourists visit Hawai i annually to forget their worries within this universally perceived paradise. For the indigenous people of Hawai i, whose ancestors have cultivated this land for generations, the idea of paradise only conceals the enduring oppression that dictates their reality. The oppression of native Hawaiians emerged during the 18th century with the attempts of western settlers to colonize the archipelago and impose their beliefs on to the natives. Along with them came diseases that collapsed the native population, while introduced plant and animal species devastated the archipelago s delicate ecosystem. On January 17th, 1893, the Hawaiian Monarchy was illegally overthrown by American businessmen who called themselves the Republic of Hawai i. Since then, the native Hawaiian population has been marginalized within their own homelands, while their lands were desecrated by the imperialists of the United States. In 1896, the Hawaiian language is prohibited by the United States federal government from all public schools. Students who could only speak Hawaiian were either silenced or punished severely under this law. In 1929, the military occupies Makua valley on the island of O ahu and uses the land for training. From 1941 to 1990, the entire island of Kaho olawe was used as an arena for military bombing practice. During the time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Criminal Justice Systems Paper Criminal Justice System Paper The criminal justice system and the criminal justice process has shaped the laws of this country into what they are today from the concerns of politicians and government leaders as far back as the 1800s with crime control. Basically, the criminal justice system was designed to ensure the safety of individuals whom are citizens of this country. Essentially, the criminal justicesystem is the structural basis used to maintain social control (Education Decisions, 2010). The criminal justice system has many components that work together to provide justice for criminals and victims of crimes. This enables violators of the law to be prosecuted in a fair trial. Misdemeanors are criminal offenses that are less serious than felonies and are generally punishable by fines, jail terms of up to a year, or both. (West s Encyclopedia, 2010). An example of a misdemeanor would be for an individual to be convicted of a traffic violation or jaywalking. Infractions are the least serious of crimes. Infractions are not punishable by imprisonment. A person charged with an infraction is not entitled to a trial by jury (California Penal Code, 2010). Instead, infractions are punishable by monetary fines or restitution amounts. An example of an infraction would be an individual given a speeding ticket or a ticket for running a red light. As one can see, the criminal justice system and the laws set in place are about maintaining social order and control. Components of the Criminal Justice System The criminal justice system consists of various components of law enforcement agencies. Such law enforcement agencies include local police departments, criminal courts, and correctional facilities. • 5. Romeo And Juliet Forbidden Love Quotes In Shakespeare s Romeo Juliet , the 13 year old protagonist is faced with the tempting idea of forbidden love. The true factor, which inevitably leads to Juliet s demise, was her lack of experience in love, life, and marriage. Juliet s lack in experience was what brought her to meet her end. But problems always originate from how one was raised, brought up, and grown into the world by surrounding adults. In Juliet s case, her constant supervision was the nurse s responsibility. In a way, the nurse fed Juliet s addiction to Romeo, even encouraged it at times. Then hie you hence to Friar Lawrence s cell. There stays a husband to make you a wife. (III.v. 169) This quote demonstrates the fact that the nurse, instead of trying to steer Juliet off the path of forbidden love, is in fact, helping her obtain a life with Romeo. While it is admirable that the nurse cares for Juliet and wishes for her to live a happy life, the nurse s love for Juliet blinded her ration and ability to think clearly. In turn, after having the adult that raised you accept your wishes, no matter how inane they are, Juliet now, even more so than before, feels as though a life with Romeo is the... Perhaps, if Romeo was not there to hear her thoughts at the moment, Juliet would have had the ability to dwell on her views a bit more, and in turn, realize how soon everything was happening. Therefore, she would attempt to slow down the course of action their relationship was obviously taking. First love is always exciting, but one has to keep their head throughout it. • 6. Justice In Dante s Inferno Renowned poet Dante Alighieri lived in a tempestuous political and religious era. Fourteenth century Italy was riddled with political factions, most notably the Guelphs and Ghibellines, which were constantly engaged in conflict. This ongoing political and religious upheaval would eventually lead to Dante s exile from Florence. After his banishment, Dante wrote The Divine Comedy, an epic poem that sets up a flawless system of punishment, redemption and salvation. This retributive structure, most readily apparent in the Inferno , heavily contrasts with the imperfect earthly one that failed Dante. Although the primary message of the poem appears to be religious, the Inferno gives insight into how Dante was making an inherently political statement.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. People Conform To The Environment In Malcolm Gladwell s... The general argument made by author Malcolm Gladwell in his work, Power of Context, is that people conform to their environment. More specifically, Gladwell argues that environment is what controls how and why a person reacts to a certain situation. He writes, The Broken Windows Theory. In this passage, Gladwell is suggesting that if ones community is poor then people will tend to make poor decisions. In conclusion, Gladwell s belief is that little tipping points will slowly and effectively change the environment they live in. I believe, The Broken Windows theory plays an enormous role in the environment around oneself. Due to the fact that the train station choose to clean every single one of the carts that came through and placing security guards at stations to not allow people to sneak into the trains. By doing these things, this did not manipulate the on goers that saw this but it allowed everyone to see how to be a role model. These little things that the Gunn and William Bratton choose to do set the community up for excellence rather than failure. Gladwell states that if Goetz would have met up with the four young black men in a different place the shooting most likely would not have taken place. Because the train station was treated like trash Goetz first off had the feeling beforehand to carry a gun onto the train. By paying attention to such little details such as the graffiti it could change the mindset of many of the hoodlums around. Malcom says that Gunn drew up a new management structure and a precise set of goals and timetables aimed at cleaning the systems line by line, train by train. He started with the number seven train that connects Queens to midtown Manhattan, and began experimenting with new techniques to clean off the paint. He also states that Gunn is going to be religious about cleaning every train. Gladwell believes that human behavior is more fully formed due to the community around. You can try to adapt to a different cultures but you are just going to fall right into what the people are doing around you. If the people around you are committing crimes, then you are tempted to do the exact same thing. Gladwell states, It says that crime is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between 2003 and 2011, Decathlon established multiple retail stores in large cities across the country all the while competing with local brands and other large firms such as Nike and Adidas. During this time Decathlon was preparing to launch their Chinese version of their site allowing for online sales. Aaron Zhou, the ecommerce department head, had been experimenting with social media advertisingin an attempt to increase brand awareness with the online shoppers of China. He approached brand awareness through two main social media platforms. First was 8264.com, an outdoor activity website. Instead of fighting for add space on the front page, they placed there ad on bbs.8264.com, the bulletin board and discussion area of the site. To measure effectiveness they used a conversion rate based on purchase order per visit from 8246. While they were targeting a fantastic demo graphic, they discovered that they could generate brand awareness, but unfortunate they had a low conversion rate. The individuals on the site seemed to be focused on social aspects, not sales. Second with through micro blogs on Sina Weibo. • 12. Aquinas’ Cosmological Arguments Essay Aquinas Cosmological Arguments The Cosmological Argument for the existence of God, as propounded by Thomas Aquinas, is also known as the Third Way. It is the Third of Five ways in Aquinas s masterpiece, The Summa (The Five Ways). The five ways are: the unmoved mover, the uncaused causer, possibility and necessity, goodness, truth and nobility and the last way the teleological. The first three ways are different variations of the cosmological argument. The Cosmological argument is developed around a distinction between that which has necessary existence and that, which is contingent. A thing that has necessary existence must exist in all possible worlds, whereas a thing that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aquinas seems to presuppose the first of these two claims without argument. The argument for the second appears to be this: 1. An object can change from not having property G to having G only if the object is potentially G but not actually G. 2. The cause of an object s becoming G must itself actually be G. 3. Therefore, a thing cannot cause itself to acquire a property. He believed everything that is in motion (change) is moved (changed) by something else. Infinite regress is impossible. Therefore there must be a first mover (changer). His emphasis was on dependency; Christian theology has always taught that God sustains the universe. In other words, if God ceased to exist then the universe would also cease. Therefore there must be and an initiator of the change whose continued existence is depended upon. For example a play depends on the continued existence of actors. This type of casual relationship is what Aquinas had in mind. Overall the first cause argument is: a) Everything has a cause b) Therefore the universe (cosmos) has a cause c) That cause is God d) Therefore God exists. For this to follow Aquinas has to exclude the possibility of infinite regression; i.e. events with their previous causes going back in time forever).

Not having jobs meant that it would be awfully hard for them to obtain a loan from banks in order to purchase homes. The government decided to help the American people by creating the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) which basically stepped in and allowed banks to offer mortgages to more people with the promise that the banks would get their money back. The FHA finances itself with insurance premiums that they charge borrowers as well as interest that they receive on reserves. The reason behind my thinking has to do with the new president we have in the White House. President has come out and said that he has a new tax reform plan that s supposed to have significant changes not only to personal taxes but corporate taxes as well. Trump has said that he wants to lower the corporate tax rate from the current 35% to 20, maybe even 15% which is great news for corporations but not so great when it comes to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The reason that this would be bad for these enterprises is because they are under conservatorship and cutting the corporate tax rate would force these enterprises to once again need a bailout. Being under conservatorship means that for every quarter Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac make a profit, they have to pay dividends to the department of treasury and at the same time they aren t allowed to rebuild capital but instead their capital base is diminished as time passes which means that in 2018 they will have not one penny remaining in their capital reserves. Furthermore, lower corporate tax rates mean that Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac will have significant deferred tax asset write downs...which, in turn, could lead to the GSE s need an additional draw from the Treasury to cover tax related losses (Housingwire). To reiterate my point once again, I believe that the government shouldn t continue its involvement in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More broadly, the intergovernmental panel and sustainable scale project uses the Kaya Identity alongside a general model to calculate human footprint called IPAT to help determine correlations amongst governmental policies and subsequent ecological implications. IPAT structures a more multiplicative equation to encompass all the possible variables to calculate the degradation of the environment and aggregate human impact on surrounding ecosystems (Waggoner, 2002). This commercial uses Initially there is a close up shot of Matthew McConauhey s face while he says It s not about hugging trees, it s not about being wasteful either. This comes as conserving the environment is cool and all but as I fore mentioned it s really only a by product of our cars. This does not come across in the landscapes around him. Art Therapy Adolescents Future research should examine the use of art therapy with specific diagnostic populations in an effort to more target groups who benefit most from this form of intervention. One of the personal advantages taken from the process of completing this assignment has been the opportunity to reflect on my approach to working with adolescent clients. For instance, it has become easier to express what has been learned through experience about the needs of the adolescent client especially with my internship this spring semester. Art therapy with adolescents with depression can be a successful modality of treatment because it allows the client to be able to control communication. The adolescent can create whatever they want and can choose share what they choose. For some adolescents nonverbal communication is more comfortable than attempting to put feelings into words. This is a new generation. Verbal communication is pushed aside by the use of technology. The adolescent can also feel respected through Art Therapy. • 20. Analysis Of Ask Me If I Care And Safari Essay Women have a few common tropes in literature. Seen as submissive to men, and sexualized because of it, women are presented as less than. While this has been strayed from a little bit in modern literature with the engagement of queer writers, it is still very much the normal view of women, due to a society in which the view on women is that of being less than. The short stories Ask Me if I Care and Safari by Jennifer Egan both perpetuate this idea of women as submissive. Egan presents female characters who only exist in the context of men, thus leaving them to be seen as inferior to the men. These tropes of women in literature, and Egan s use of them, fit into the larger conversation: there is a degradation of women in literature due to common conceptions of women in society. Egan presents multiple female characters in Ask Me if I Care . The short story touches on a group of friends, and in this group are the two characters of Rhea and Jocelyn both female. While they may seem to be presented differently, Rhea as a not interested in being sexualized character and Jocelyn as a sexualizes herself character, both ultimately play into the trope of submissive and degraded women. Rhea, from the beginning, is portrayed as needing men: Still, if it s Bennie and me I hope for the back, so that I can push against his shoulder in the cold, and hold him for a second when we hit a bump (Egan, Ask Me ). While this may seem innocuous, it is the first introduction to Rhea. The very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Summary Of Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar In Sylvia Plath s autobiographical novel, The Bell Jar, Plath journeys through the mental deterioration and reconstruction of Esther Greenwood. Sylvia Plath, college educated and highly independent when she was a young adult in the fifties, was often described as the girl who wanted to be God. (Barnard) Plath always had a passion for English and writing, and in most of her works, she exhibits dark and unnerving themes. Assumingly, this dark tone is derived from her father s death and cruel departure from her beloved home near the sea when she was eight years old. Plath also had to surmount her constant repression of personality as people, men in particular, criticized her for being too brainy . While being a renowned author, Plath is most known for her abstract poems and novels that showcase intellectual and deranged topics. (Barnard). The Bell Jaris no exception to this standard. Much like Plath herself, Esther Greenwood is depressed and has a cool and detached manner. Esther s mental state, or lack thereof, is diminished by doubtful attitudes of others and finally rebuilt through the trusting and deserved therapy of Doctor Nolan. The novel narrated Esther s downward spiral as she goes from able bodied and healthy to detached to suicidal and, finally, to her recovery. As Esther s city based internship is coming to an end, Esther begins feeling inadequate and unhappy. As her depression deepens, coddling and condescending people send Esther into a negative spiral. Most people will have seen or heard one of the various stories in the for of a book, play, movie, or television show. One scene I would highlight is act 1, scene 3. This is the scene where Faustesse sets out the terms of her pact with the devil. I would highlight this part for a number of reasons. First off, Faustesse jumps when she first sees Mephostophilis. I feel this is a very important aspect of the play because in one moment it shows a theme which is as prevalent at the end of the play as much as it is at the beginning. When Faustesse jumps at the sight of the Devil and orders him back in a different shape it shows that maybe she is not necessarily ready to take on the Devil to get what she wants, and that Hell and other such things in the same league are not really what Faustesse is looking for to solve her problems, and that such experiences are not really suited to her, and ... The Military Draft is Unconstitutional Essay There is a Time and a place for everything, for instance there were times when a militarized force wasn t nearly large enough for an impending war as necessary to stand even that of a fighting chance towards victory. Our nation s solution to this problem was creating the military draft, which most recently was used during the Vietnam War. The military draft, or Selective Service System, is Conscription, or in other words forced labor demanded by some established authority (Worddiq). From 1948 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means. At the constant incline of students enlisting in the military and the re enlistment rate of soldiers being 137% of the predicted rate, there would be no physical need for a draft. (Griffin)The constant growth of the American Military only proves the fact that a military draft isn t as necessary as it was in previous years, or previous wars, such as the Chinese Civil War, Greek Civil War, First Indochina War, Korean War, and lastly the Second Indochina War, or Vietnam War. A draft at this time in American history would cause the nation s debt to raise more, due to the cost for equipment on all drafted soldiers, training, and the shipping or flying to their necessary stations. The Government would also have to pay the draftees for their services causing the nations treasury to further plummet into oblivion, however with no draft in place the chances of a soldier in the American Military with no real desire to be there, or without actually being physically fit or durable enough to last being enlisted, are slim to none. A draft for any military, not just the American military alone, would exclude those in which would voluntarily give their service to their Country, State, Province, or any other geographic area with its own military. • 37. Jean Piaget s Developments Of Human Cognitive Development Jean Piaget was the first Swiss psychologist to study the systematic human cognitive development. He was fascinated about how the way children think and how children gain their knowledge as they grow up. His studies help him to understand that children s cognitive development changes as they mature and with the experiences they learn in the environment. Cognitive development is the development of memory, thinking, and problem solving (Ciccarelli, 2012). With his studies, he proposed that cognitive development occurs in 4 age related stages: sensorimotor, pre operational, concrete operations, and formal operations (Leifer, 2015). The pre operational stage is the early childhood development ages between 2 to 7 years old. Children in this stage are very focused on learning their symbolic thought, especially concepts and language. They assume the very stereotypical act of a child, believing in fantastical characters like the Easter bunny and his ilk and believing that the act of locomotion means that something has life. They can imagine to a basic extent and are capable of using items as symbols for other items. Piaget claimed that children in this stage experience egocentrism, which refers to inability to see the world through anyone else s eyes (Ciccarelli, 2012). Children are self centered and they think that world entirely from their own personal perspective. They also focus mostly on appearances when concerning logic and they basically understand only the things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Non Verbal Communication And Nonverbal Communication One of the areas studied in psychology is the use of Non Verbal Communication (NVC). According to the Collins dictionary, this is defined as those aspects of communication, such as gestures and facial expressions, that do not involve communication, but which may include non verbal aspects of speech itself (accent, tone of voice, speed of speaking, etc) . Used daily by humans and animals (Darwin 1972), NVC has a strong link to innate factors, and messages are sent unconsciously to the listener. Through body language, we can deliver simple messages which can aid or replace speech, show attitude or emotion, and with 55% of what we say being delivered through body language, and 38% dedicated to tone, it can sometimes contradict our verbal... The study was carried out by collecting photographs, drawings and video footage to allow for a large sample of international gestures, and as there were no guidelines for judging NVC at this time, we are not able to question the validity of these approaches. It was noted in the study that when filming, and asking people to repeat gestures, the actions became more awkward and unnatural, therefor procedures where changed to ensure only first, natural performances of the gesture were recorded. The findings showed that they hypothesis was correct as in there are differences in gestures across the cultures, but there can also be variations within that cultures. It also discovered that to collect accurate recordable data, video footage was the best option. This was due to photographs and drawings not giving enough information for someone to repeat the gesture correctly. Still drawings do not show the full motion of the gesture, the facial expression that coincides with it or the speed at which the gesture is delivered. The advantage of filming also meant that footage could be reviewed to allow even small gestures being noted. Findings were delivered in a short film A World of Gestures Culture and Non Verbal Communication and highlights that in Japan, if you point to the side of your head, by your ear, with your index finger, and circle your finger anti clockwise, this means crazy . The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers put together the American National Standards Institute for Unix named the Portable Operating System Interface for Computer Environments. It dictates a universal standard on how the Unix based systems are supposed to operate. (Asprey amp; Seruzzi, 2008) Linux has three major components the file structure, kernel, and environment. The file structure does what its name implies, puts files in a specific order on any storage device. They are arranged in a hierarchy of directories and one or more subdirectories all of which contain files. These directories are all interconnected. With the exception of the standard directories that are set aside for system use, users have full control of the files inside the directories. They can create and move directories, move files between directories, share or restrict directories and files just by setting directory and file permissions. While sex laws greatly vary across different jurisdictions and times, laws regulating sexual activity often have different intentions. There are many lessons that can be learned. You can learn more about yourself, who your friends are, what kind of help is offered to you, and what your strengths and your weaknesses are. Attending High School helped build my confidence because my classmates were supportive, my teachers taught me how to study for tests, and the math tutors helped me overcome my fear of math. They can help you sharpen your study skills by showing you new ways of learning. Lastly, the tutors at the school helped me to overcome my biggest fear and that was math. They helped me realize that if you take math one step at a time, it will be a lot easier than trying to learn it all at once. The tutors also made it easier for me by teaching me to relate math to something I enjoy. A simple example would be if you were having problems with percents. The author uses many key phrase s throughout the book but one that caught the readers attention was when the author puts a bird saying Poo tee weet (Vonnegut, 19) in the novel. This quote is one of the smallest but holds the grandest meaning. Kurt Vonnegut uses many phrases in his story to prove a point and drive in the fact that the story is an anti war novel, but the best phrase he used to make this point was Poo tee weet . With this knowledge the Tralfamadorians aren t going to be surprised or impacted by the bombings and war because they have already seen it happen a multitude of times. • 46. Iran Political Dynamic Essay The Iranian Political Dynamic One of the misconceptions of modernization was that societies would secularize as they modernized. This formed the tenets of post war modernization theories. Notably, the end of world war two was characterized by the decline of religious faiths and secularization of societies, especially in Britain and America. This paradigm fitted the idea of development and breaking free from the yoke of poverty, hunger, diseases and other social problems. As such, it was believed that progress would only be achieved at the expense of religion. However, over the past decades, countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran have evolved into industrialized economies with religion at the heart of their growth . It has, therefore, become a point of studies on religious fundamentalism. The Iranian revolution of 1978 to 1980 changed Iran s political system. The Iranian political system is based on an agglomeration of politics and religion. The head of this unique political system is the supreme religious leader: the Ayatollah. I feel as if people like to attack others when they make a subtle mistake in organizing words that best express their thought or in the case that Ronson focused on when someone doesn t understand one s humor and decides to exploit them. But why? Well, my theory is that people like to feel powerful and we also like to feel like we are doing something good for the vast majority. However, how we decide to protect others seems kind of brutal. In social media, one has to be careful with what one decides to share because it can be so easily be misinterpreted. A misinterpretation can lead straight to online shaming. People with like views will begin to gather to protect the people that they believe are being attacked in an inappropriate way. Urmson is the Director of Self Driving Cars at Google, and in March of 2015 he presented a TED Talk in which he addressed issues of car safety. In his presentation, Urmson goes on to explain that for over a century, America has come up with ways to mitigate car safety issues. Manufacturers have specifically addressed the fact that car drivers often err, and in so doing, create unsafe conditions for themselves and others on the roads. To address this, vehicles have been revamped to be more structurally sound, and collision safety features have been added, such as air bags and seatbelts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Urmson). Driverless cars also have other sensors, including four radars, a GPS, an inertial measurement unit, and a wheel encoder. The radars detect obstacles. The GPS, inertial measurement unit, and the wheel encoder determine where autonomous vehicles are currently and track where they go (Guizzo). Incorporating Vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication in self driving cars would provide additional safety. V2V is the technology that allows cars to exchange information such as speed, direction, location and other data with one another. This technology is also useful for vehicles with drivers because it allows them to receive a warning of unexpected events and enables them to react quickly, thus improving safety. For instance, if a driver ahead quickly presses the brakes, nearby cars will get a warning that allows them to react promptly. If a car is speeding in a curve, the driver in the car will get a warning that indicates that they re going too fast and need to slow down. Vehicle to vehicle communication also allows roads to talk to cars about traffic jams, road work, and road conditions. If there s black ice ahead, the driver will get a warning indicating the hazard.
