The Radicalization Of Terrorist Groups
1. How can extremist groups treat fellow human beings with such cruelty?
When we think of a person who joins a terrorist group we think that they must be a psychopath or
suffer from some form of mental illness. There has to be something wrong with that individual to
be so easily swayed into a group that is so violent and has no regard for human life. However,
classic studies like those performed by Milgram and Zimbardo proved that even stable, well
adjusted individuals can be capable of inflicting serious harm on fellow human beings without any
regret. These studies proved anyone put into the right circumstances could be lead to treat their
fellow human beings with extreme cruelty, dehumanization, or even death. Therefore, the majority

However, many members are possibly just as ordinary as you or me. Radicalization does not
happen simply by listening nor by an individual s experiences but if you combine the two they
amplify each other and a terrorist could be born. The process of co radicalization was an
important factor I learned from this paper. I do not think any of us realize that as a society the
West contributes to the making of a terrorist. Muslims are drawn to the West as a society of
freedom and the land of opportunity. However, just because there are Muslim we profile and
discriminate against them. In doing this most people do not understand that we are basically
radicalizing them ourselves. Terrorismis all about division and this puts a big divide between us
and the Muslim communities. Leaders and politicians of the West that use aggressive tactics
also fuel terrorism. This was made very clear when al Qaeda reaired Donald Trump s reaction to
Muslim immigration. This article has been very beneficial for me because I am one of those that
feel that we need to take on ISIS in a more aggressive manner. However, after learning about the
research regarding radicalization and group dynamics in this article I have gained a better
understanding of terrorism and how it works. As David Rothkopf wrote after the Paris massacres
last November, overreaction is precisely the wrong response to terrorism. And it s exactly what
terrorists want.... It does the work of the terrorists for the terrorists. I think this says it

Tartuffe Play Analysis
On Saturday, December 3rd at 4 pm, I watched the play Tartuffe at York College. Tartuffe is a
classic French play written by Moliere. It was originally named Tartuffe, ou I Imposteur . And it
was first performed in 1664. The play is a comedy that centers around the character Tartuffe who is
a hypocritical holy man. Throughout the play Moliere indirectly tackles many societal problems in
his time. The play starts in Orgon s house. Where him and his mother (Madame Pernelle) are having
a discussion about Tartuffe, who is a beggar and a holy man. The other members of this family
strongly dislike Tartuffe because they believe that he is a self righteous con artist. In the next scene
Orgon returns to his home, just coming from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Car chacun y babille, et tout du long de l aune. This translates to, Parties are towers of Babylon,
because The guests all babble on with never a pause. The French quotes shows the rhyme and

Genisis, chapter 11, This also specifies the specific religion that the characters followed, which

How Did Mazzini Contribute To The Unification Of Italy
The identity of Italy was changing with different political powers and views clashing over the
ideas of unification. From 1830 1870, people began to voice their opinions of the divided nation,
raising much conflict. Italy, before its process of revolution began, was mostly ruled by foreign
powers and absolute monarchs. The country s citizens decided they wanted a change in their
government and freedom from their rulers. In the beginning, the revolt was not organized and
resulted in failure until they united and fought as one large group. With the help of historical
revolutionaries such as Mazzini and Cavour, Italywas finally seeing a revolution of its government
and a unification of the nation. Italy s fight for unification overwhelming number... Show more

Tools Used by Project Managers
Introduction
Project management refers to the process of monitoring, planning and controlling a distinct set of
tasks that have a discrete end, beginning and result. The process of project managements is carried
out within three important constraints of scope, costs and time (Meredith Mantel, 2012). The
purpose of the project management is producing a product that is technically acceptable that is
within and on time the budget. To attain this, project managers tries to reduce the risks linked to
the project and maximum the benefits, including marketability and profit. There is a wide array of
techniques and tools that are used for the purpose of helping the project managers especially in
controlling and monitoring the projects.
Work Breakdown structure (WBS) The objective of the Work breakdown structure is to assist in
effectively planning for a project through breaking activities or key tasks in a smaller and more
manageable work units. Work breakdown structures avails a detailed task lists to be carried out
for a project and assists in delivering better costs, resource and scheduling planning for a project
(Meredith Mantel, 2012). The work breakdown structure at its basic level lists all the activities that
require to be done to ensure that a project is complete. This is often written as a hierarchy and
commences with the general task and breaking the task

Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions
Perspectives in Psychology
This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in
psychology and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective
will be discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in
psychology. Finally there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each
perspective and a conclusion.
The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are
blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson
in America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). Behaviourists focus on external conditions, learning
and experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional
stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell
ringing alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and
salivating to the bell was considered the conditional response.
B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant
conditioning. Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences
or rewards generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005).
Skinner invented a device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain
food, water or some other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of
reinforcement, positive (which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in
removal of unfavourable outcomes).
Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think.
Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information
processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory,
perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. Ulric Neisser
published Cognitive Psychology in 1967

Cardiologist Research Paper
The number one cause of death in America is cardiovascular diseases. Cardiologists and cardiac
surgeons fight the diseases by treating the patient s heart. Cardiologists are doctors who treat
patients with heart and blood vessel diseases. Cardiac surgeons perform surgeries on patients with
heart and blood vessel diseases that s reached a stage where surgeryis necessary. Cardiac surgeons
are referred to by cardiologists when the patient s symptoms need to be treated on by surgery.
Heart professionals have to go through many years of school in order to become a doctor that
works with hearts. In order to become a cardiologist or cardiac surgeon they must earn a doctor of
medicine degree and license. Cardiologists education after earning a medical license begins with
practicing internal medicine followed with certification and a fellowship. First, Brunot explains,

make surgical procedures more efficient, quicker, and easier. Cardiac surgeons perform procedures
using tools and machines that help cure heart diseases or make the heart function better. Next,
Brunot states, Cardiac surgeons operate on patients with heart issues using machines (Brunot). A

Analysis Of The Poem The Marjorie Liu And Sana Takeda
Without the illustrations, reading the Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda s graphic novel Monstress
would be a far less enriching experience. The fantastical universe created in this work would not
be as finely detailed or impactful if it were a traditional novel. The illustrations set the tone and
allow the reader s eye to focus on what is important, without the need to read a detailed description
of the universe. Sana Takeda s illustrations in Monstress enhance the story with the framing of the
panels, the color palette in the settings, and the detail of her art.
The framing of the illustrations enhances the reading experience in a variety of ways. The
arrangement of the panels lets the reader know exactly which characters, moments and ... Show

Another instance of this is in the battle scene in Chapter Three when Maika uses a unicorn horn
to kill one of the guards. On this page, four diagonal lines separate the page; one of which is not
parallel with the others This demonstrates Maika s rapid movement, and the skewed line shows
precisely how jarring her act of violence is. Takeda also uses the lines themselves in various
interesting ways. Whenever there is a flashback scene, the divisions are black, unlike the current
events in which they are white. In addition, during her forced recollection of Constantine in Chapter
Six, the lines are both black and blurred, showing that this memory is less clear than the others.
Another innovative instance is in Chapter One when Maika attacks Sophia with a flamethrower. On
this page, the flames move over the borders into other panels, showing just how much the flames
are consuming.
With the color palettes used in the various settings, Takeda sets the tone for the scenes and allows
for better reader clarity. The first major setting in the novel is the city of Zamora, where inside the
Cumaean stronghold, jewel tones and gold are the most dominant (Chapter One). This shows the
reader the opulence and glamour the Cumaea experience, demonstrating their greed and power,
which the reader learns is due to both being born with some magical abilities and their use of
Lilium. This is in stark contrast to the green hues that Takeda uses to create the prison scenery.

The Argument Of Violent Video Games
Learning is a deep human need, like mating and eating, and like all such needs it is meant to be
deeply pleasurable to human beings. ― James Paul Gee, Why Video Games Are Good for Your
Soul: Pleasure and Learning. Some people have controversial argument that violent video games
should be banned, claiming about the content of video games can change the behavior and
attitudes of the players. Since the early 2000s, advocates of video games have emphasized their
use as an expressive medium, arguing for their protection under the laws governing freedom of
speech and also as an educational tool. Violent video games allow players to divert their
aggression into the virtual world instead of the real one. Video games have become not only a
form of entertainment, but also another way for people to escape reality and to enter their own
virtual fantasy. James Gee explains that, if you blame violent video games for horrific events that
have occurred is much like putting the blame on food for the cause of obesity. According to the
Entertainment Software Association (ESA), 58 percent of all Americans playvideo games, and
nearly half of Americans over 50 play. The organization also found that 45 percent of gamers are
women and that the average gamer is 30 years old. Gameplayis also on the rise one study shows that
average daily video gameplay among kids ages 8 to 18 rose from 26 minutes per day in 1999 to
almost 110 minutes (nearly two hours) per day by 2009. The numbers are even higher for boys,
25 percent of whom play video games for four or more hours per day. Violent video games should
not be ban because violent video games can be good for developing cognitive, physical, and many
more hidden skills, help to understand and learn to control emotions, and banning violent video
games is against the fourteenth amendment of the United States.
Violent video games strengthen and coordinate to visual skills. Researchers from the University
of Rochester found, people who frequently play video games have better visual skills of their
surroundings. Than people who do not or rarely play any video game. This means people who play
videogames, are better suit around his or her surrounding and could help improve our society. Many

Introduction
While marsupial species can be found in both North and South America, neither can compare to the
marsupial diversity of the isolated continent of Australia. With 180 Australian marsupial species, as
opposed to 78 South American and 1 North American species, the ecological niches filled by
marsupials in Australia are many and varied due to the lack of native eutherian mammals on the
continent. Australian marsupials evolved special adaptations to survive in the harsh and distinctive
environment found on the continent. The major area of marsupial biology that distinguishes them
from all other eutherian mammals is their mode of reproduction. However, it can be said that there
are many other areas in which unique differences can be seen between marsupials and eutherian
mammals; one such area of adaptation is in the anatomy and physiology of digestion, which
distinguishes them from many other similar animals worldwide. This paper will give a brief
overview of the evolution and history of marsupials in Australia, and then compare the digestive
systems adaptations of placental ruminants and herbivorous marsupials, with an emphasis on the
foregut fermenters, kangaroos and wallabies.
Evolution of Herbivorous Marsupials and Ruminants

monotremes. It is generally accepted that the first marsupials split from these early monotremes

Laws of Supply and Demand
Microeconomics and the Laws of Supply and DemandECO/365October 13, 2014Professor
CoulibalyComedian P.J. O Rourke said it best when he said, microeconomics concerns things that
economists are specifically wrong about, while macroeconomics concerns things economists are
wrong about generally. Or to be more technical, microeconomics is about money you don t have,
and macroeconomics is about money the government is out of (Beggs, 2014). On a serious note
however, macroeconomics and microeconomics are different from each other yet both play a
crucial role.

Their immediate response was to lower the rent and in doing so they raised the demand rate
because it added to consumers desire to move into apartments with lower rental costs. As the
demand for the lower rental costs rises, the vacancy rate or the supply decreased.
As the number of available apartments increases, the supply curve shifts right. As the rental rate
increases, the supply also increases. By leasing all 2,500 apartments, the rental rate will be pushed
to $1,500. The demand curve begins to shift down as the rental rate and supply of apartments
increase. If Goodlife increases their rental rate to the $1,500, the demand for the apartments will
decrease. To reach the equilibrium Goodlife must decrease the rental rate to $1,050 and in so doing
the number of demanded units and the number of supplied units will be equal.
In applying this to my workplace, supply and demand is based on the number of students brought
into the system every other week. Most times we expect to get six to eight new students every
fourteen days. If that number goes up we have to order more goods to take care of the increase.
On the other hand if that number decreases we have to order fewer goods. Also, with fewer
students we need fewer staff to take care of those students.

equilibrium is one of the most important concepts in the study of economics. Market equilibrium is

inflict a heavy cost. The authors continue by positing a dilemma that sounds nearly identical to
Adler . They assert that terrorists use a strategy of provocation that is designed to induce a violent
response, which will in turn radicalize population and lead to them supporting the terrorists.
Additionally, John Mueller lambasts what he labels as the socially constructed terrorist industry,
which he attacks for artificially inflating concerns over terrorist attacks. Instead, Mueller confirms
that the damage caused by terrorism is not materially significant but stems primarily from the fear
that it creates. Violent retaliation is viewed as a form of self flagellation that provides the terrorists
with exactly what they want. As mentioned, realist definitions of power, self interest and rationality
lack explanatory prowess when non state actors are able to subvert states thanks largely in part to
the use of suicide terrorism. The proliferation of terrorist groups and their use of suicide tactics in
many ways defies realist expectations and conclusions.

Short Eyes Vs Spotlight Essay
In my opinion the best film that portrays our actual criminal justice system is Spotlight, because
in the film the main characters create an illusion of being like detective in their research of the
truth about child molestation and abuse. I know they are journalist doing their job but in the film
is the perfect example of cop films without a cop involved only in the beginning. What also brings
a point of discussion is the fact of how in crimefilms they portray racism and more if it s a movie
with such a difficult topic to talk about like child molested or child abuse. Another case of child
abuse and good and bad criminal justicesystem would be the film Short Eyes, where the prisoners
take justice by their own hands. In crime films the editors help the director to directly shape the
form on how the movie should impact in the viewer s perspective. In my perspective either Short
Eyes or Spotlight perfectly address the subject which in this case is child abuse. Just because it

Stem cell research and cures Stems cells are cells that have the ability to differentiate into specific
ones. They divide through mitosis and can only be found in organisms that are multicellular.
Mammals have two types off stem cells: embryonic stem cells which are obtained from the
internal cell mass of blastocysts and adult stem cells which are located in different tissues. In adult
organisms, progenitor cells and stem cells function as the repair system of the body which
regenerates into fully grown tissues. Due to the ability of stems cells to regenerate and replenish
other cells, they can be used in stem cell research and cure (Lim, 2006). There are three sources
of adult cells in humans: bone marrow whereby extraction is done by drilling into the bone
mainly the femur followed by harvesting of the bone marrow, adipose tissue where extraction is
done by a process called liposuction. Lastly is blood can also provide stem cells and the
extraction is done through apheresis where blood is drawn from a donor and passed through a
machine which extracts only the stem cells and returns other blood components to the donor
(Marzilli, 2007). Stem cells can cure diseases because they possess two important features which
the other cells of the body lack. In some cases regeneration happens after a long time when they are
inactive state. When such cells are exposed to some certain experimental conditions, they can be
induced to become organ specific

Invisable Man
At the time that Ralph Ellison writes the novel The Invisible Man there were, as there are today,
many ideas on how to improve the black mans status in a segregated nation. Marcus Garvey was a
militant black nationalist leader who created a amp;quot;Back to Africa amp;quot; movement. On
the other side was Booker T. Washingtonwho preached for racial uplift through educational
attainments and economic advancement. A man who strayed more on the middle path was W.E.B
.

Here was a man who was happy to be black: not only happy but also proud. Garvey s racial pride

possible Garvey created the Black Star Line in 1919 to provide transportation. He also started
the Negro Factories Corporation to encourage black economic independence. Garvey attracted

Jellyfish Research Paper
Jellyfish
Many people think jellyfish are mean scary creatures, but really they re not. Jellyfish are beautiful
because of their many colors. They are healthy carnivores. They just happen to live a short period
of time. There isn t a better creature than that. Jellyfish aren t just clear jelly like animals with long
strings. They re multicolor beauties that float in the deep blue ocean. They can be pink, blue,
yellow, purple, or luminescent (glow.) Jellyfishhave a mouth inside of their bell shape body. They
use their mouth to eat and discard waste. Their mouth is right under their two eyes. The size of

My Tissue As A Writer
In this memo, I introduced the path I have taken as a writer. The things I have learned about
writing during high school and at Purdue. The biggest change after I came to Purdue as a writer is
that I realized that the purpose of writing is not just about exams or joy, but also about future career
and research.
History of my writing
As a writer, I like writing stories. I started to write my own novel at 12. At that time, I have read
a lot of novels and interesting stories. When I finished each chapter of my story, I would let my
sister to read it and observe her reaction. Every time I saw her smiling face while reading my own
story, I was proud and satisfied, as a writer. Today, as a college student, I still like reading and
writing stories.

Millennium Cohort Study
RESULTS Overall, 108,129 Service members enrolled in panels 1 and 2 of the Millennium
Cohort Study and completed baseline survey. Service members who were not in active duty or
National Guard/Reserves at baseline (n=5,079), who did not remain in the assigned separation
category until end of study (n=37,922), who did not complete at least two follow up surveys
(n=27,984), and who had missing covariate data (n=5,974) were excluded from the study.
Exclusion criteria resulted in 31,170 study participants among whom approximately 18%
(n=5,510) were categorized as veterans. Majority of the study participants were male gender, aged

Furthermore, significant positive dose response relationships were observed between smoking
and number of combat exposures as well as smoking and the amount of alcohol consumption. As
stated, time until separation, defined as time spent in Service between the completion of
baseline survey and date of separation, was further investigated among the veterans group
(n=5,510). Table 3 shows the results of the time until separation sub analysis. The smoking
prevalence were 23%, 20%, 20%, and 17% for less than 3 months, 3 months to less than 1 year,
1 year to less than 2 years, and 2+ years, respectively. The differences of smoking prevalence by
time until separation gradually diminished over time after participants separated from service.
By time 3, all groups had similar smoking prevalence (12% 14%). At univariate level, a dose
response relationship was observed as the closer participants were to the separation date at
baseline, the higher chance of them being a smoker. However, GEE model only revealed
significantly elevated odds among those stayed in service between 3 months to a year after the
completion of baseline survey. For analyses examining type of separation, we further excluded
Reserve and National Guard personnel (n=1,658) due to the lack of separation data. Table 4 shows
smoking prevalence, unadjusted, and adjusted odds ratios of smoking among

Energy is released but not recycled during decomposition. The gross primary productivity (GPP)

ADAM BAIN AND THE PRICE MOMENTUM STRATEGY
In February 1995, Adam Bain, investment advisor in the London, Ontario branch of RBC

recently circulated a copy of a study which described a simple price momentum model and
referred to its startling results based on back testing the strategy over a 15 year period. The Trend

His client base had grown primarily due to referrals, often from Royal Bank branch managers. His
primary source of income was through commissions charged on products sold. For example, typical
stock commissions ranged from 1.5 to 2.5 percent depending on the size of the transaction.
Bain s clients portfolios included equities (both common and preferred) as well as fixed income
securities and small amounts of cash (typically parked on a short term basis before being
allocated to fixed income or equities). Typical portfolios were approximately 60% equities and
40% fixed income, 70% domestic and 30% international. Approximately one third of equity
investments were through mutual funds. Approximately 25% of client assets were included in
tax sheltered Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs). As of 1991, Bain s clients were
primarily over age 70. As of 1995, his client base had evolved to become much younger, with a

social media is potentially useful for monitoring the public perception and the social reputation of
companies and products. Despite great potential, how bad news about a company influences the
public sentiments in social media has not been studied in depth. The aim of this study is to assess

companies to experience a serious and global damage in its reputation due to the spread of bad
news in social media is Domino s Pizza. The crisis started when two employees produced and
uploaded a vulgar YouTube video in 2009. Within a few days, the video gained more than half a
million views, major news media covered the event, and people started to discuss the incident
on social media. Domino s soon released a YouTube video where its CEO apologized and
explained the situation. We paid attention to the Domino s crisis in Twitter, because from the
beginning to the end the medium played a central role in spreading both the bad news and the
apology. First, the crisis started in YouTube, but soon it was picked up by users in various social
media sites. Twitter was one of the key places where discussions took place. Based on our
estimation, more than 15,000 Twitter users posted a message about the event, Second, Domino s
apologized on Twitter by sharing a link to its CEO s apology on YouTube. This study makes three

informational purposes only. This report is not an endorsement of any alternative form of
assessment administration in Lake County. This report is also not intended to identify every
operational detail of the options described within. Any move to implement or further explore
options will require additional research. Introduction Lake County conducted an in house study
from March, 2014 to April, 2015 on the centralization of the property assessment system in Lake
County Illinois. The sole recommendation of Lake County was to eliminate local Township
Assessors and consolidate all assessment functions to Lake County. They proposed moving from
the current system of 18 locally elected Township Assessors with an appointed CCAO, to a
centralized system of one appointed county assessor who controlled the whole assessment process.
The study estimated that this centralized assessment process would result in a reduction of $4.4
million dollars in overall county wide costs. This reduction in costs would eliminate the 18 local
assessment offices spread throughout Lake County and only provided for one assessment office in
Waukegan. The initial study by Lake County contained factual errors, an underrepresentation of the

Agriculture And The Industrial Revolution Of The Late 1700s
As the Earth s population grows at breakneck pace over the next several decades, who will feed the
world s people? Agriculture has undergone an extensive expansion and transformation throughout
the last few centuries, beginning with the Industrial Revolution of the late 1700s. New technology
allowed for better and greater methods of production. With the development of modern technology,
people try to think some way can plant less, get more. Many farmers plant only one crop in the
same place year after year. However, those against monocropping claim that it is very hard on the
environment and actually less profitable than organic means of farming ( Monoculture Crops Learn
About The Effects Of Monocropping ). In addition, the destructive nature of agriculturehas recently
shown its hand. While our supermarkets, convenience stores, and restaurants are filled with
abundant food options, people forget to ask themselves where all this food comes from.
Globalization has opened up economies of scale and has allowed people to tap into different types
of products, whether that is food or clothing. But the availability of an increased mass market
comes at a cost. However, today, the modern farming techniques have grown into a headache for
farmers and governments alike, because they are the consequences of overproduction, industrial
waste and other problems arising from the modern methods of agriculture. Thus, modern techniques
are harmful to environments, animals, and humans.

Parents might blame their children s memory and attention problems on video games. And they
can be right, but only if a child spends too much time over playing. The same can be said about
watching television. Too much of anything is bad for us, and therefore video games should not
be blamed for attention problems. In fact, one study from a Current Biology journal shows that
dyslexic children trained on action video games show significant improvements on basic
measures of both attention and reading ability, which shows that action games can increase our
attention to details and even be used as a treatment for dyslexic children (R282). Others say that
video games lead to violence. Susan Scutti, CNN reporter mentions a warning from American
Academy of Pediatrics in her article Do video games lead to violence? which states that Video
games should not use human or other living targets or award points for killing, because this
teaches children to associate pleasure and success with their ability to cause pain and suffering to
others (Scutti). However, there is not enough evidence to prove that violent games make children
more violent. As a matter of fact, Scutti also mentions Whitney DeCamp, an associate professor of
sociology at Western Michigan University who examined over six thousand eight graders in his
study and discovered that video games, no matter how bloody, did not predict violent

An Assessment Into The Bankruptcy Examiner s Report...
The purpose of this memo is to provide an assessment into the Bankruptcy Examiner s report
regarding the risk management failure as it relates to Leman Brothers. The fundamental reason for
the failure is based on the change in corporate strategy of 2006 in which Lehman decided to shift
from a moving or securitization business to a storage business, with the firm making and holding
longer term, riskinvestments. This strategic positioning was fully supported by the board, although
the chief risk officer and certain senior risk managementexecutives had expressed concerns about
the extent of the change to the firm s risk appetite.
Strategy Impact:
While investment banks are in the business of taking calculated risks they must consider risk
within the firms risk appetite. In March 2006 Lehman Brothers adopted a new business strategy to
grow its proprietary business from a lower risk brokerage model to a higher risk,
capital‐intensive banking model with a focus on expanding three specific areas of principal
investment: commercial real estate, leveraged loans and private equity businesses to consume
more capital. This strategy was risky due to the firm s high leverage and small equity. This
impacted their risk taking significantly because this strategy was generally riskier and more illiquid
than their traditional lines of business. As some Lehman officers described it, Lehman shifted from
focusing almost exclusively on the moving business a business strategy of

Fast Fashion Vs Slow Fashion
Clothing has played an integral role in defining social status and providing functionality. Fashion
trends change faster than ever, and prices for clothing have never been so cheap. As a result
clothing production has become environmentally detrimental. This phenomenon, called fast
fashion, has inadvertently created a counter movement called slow fashion. Slow fashion aims to cut
down on clothingwasteby creating consumer awareness, increasing the lifespan of clothing, and
choosing ethical stores. While slow fashion, in theory, is an ideal method to curb clothing
disposal, it is not without its flaws. Clothes can be labeled in two categories. The first is
functionality. This is the physical quality and intrinsic value of wearing a particular garment. An
example of this may be pockets, or durable material type and quality. The second category is
expressiveness, which is defined by psychological responses and the beauty of clothing.
Expressiveness is important to communicate the identity of the wearer. Consumers have identified
that expressiveness is the more important of the two categories. Maintaining an in style
appearance is more important than having functionality (Niinimäki, 2). As a result of fast
fashion, the functionality of clothes has decreased while expressiveness has increased. Luxury
styles can move from high end fashion show to low end bargain clothing rack in a matter of weeks.
In order to do so, clothes are mass produced overseas for as cheap as

Lessons For Women By Zhao B The Lament Of Chinese Women
Nelson Huang
Professor Wang
FYS
13 November 2017
The Lament of Chinese Women
China, as one of the four ancient civilizations, has a long history and thus people there have
always been emerging in a full complex set of ethical codes under the influence of Taoism and
Confucianism. Like many people from other civilizations, Chinese people share a traditional
patrilineal society and therefore creates a whole set of gendered stereotypes to classify the social
roles of men and women. Till now, those understandings still somehow affect how people act within
the community, however, in a negative way.
Many women are trapped in those outdated comprehensions of gender roles and thus living in
restrained lives. In the past day, women are always instructed to be a gentle wife who serves her
husband intimately and sexually, a conservative family member who don t listen or talking about
politics or any kinds of men s activities, and the most important things, a mother who can take care
of the children in her husband s family and raised them to their work age. These harsh social tasks
are incredibly essential for women to follow in the old time.
In the book Lessons for Women by Zhao Ban, a series of intelligible moral identities for women
are illustrated as well as a stringent list of pros and cons for daily life are exhibited. The book is
the family teaching that Zhao, as a mother, writes to her daughters to have them success in their
future lives as wives and mothers. In the book, she

Writing really emerged separately in three regions independently of one another. Those regions are
Central and South America, Mesopotamia, and Asia. It is generally accepted that writing

A Streetcar Named Desire Analysis
Avila, Bryan
Lang and Lit Year 2
11/11/17
Written Task 2
Title of the text for analysis: A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams. 2004.
Part of the course to which the task refers: Part 4 Literature, a Critical Study
Prescribed Question: How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
My critical response will:
в—ЏShow how the males are portrayed in the text
в—ЏShow how Stanley is the alpha male and what his role is
в—ЏShow how Mitch is the omega male and what his role is
In A Streetcar Named Desire, men are the social groups represented with these roles alpha, beta,
omega. Males are portrayed as a big part in Tennessee s book, which shows the respect and rights
they hold. The men are shown this way to give off their looks and personality. The way things are
set up in the book shows the understanding of each male characters and where they stand.
The top dog Stanley is the alpha, Pablo and Steve are betas and Mitch is the omega. For
example,in the book the author writes, Stanley doesn t give me a regular allowance; he likes to
pay bills himself. (pg 78) . Making it seemed as if Stanley is the man and has it all under control .
The author wants the audience to know that Stanley has the money so he is the one in charge and
what he want has to be done, and done his way. But on the other hand the author introduces Mitch
as a very soft, awkward man that is a mamas boy .The book quotes, Hurry back and we ll fix you
a sugar tit. (pg 48). The quote refers that Mitch is as a man who can t do anything on his own
and he still is a baby and lives off his mom and has her do things for him. Tennessee used
different reference to show how the men are described in, A Streetcar Named Desire. Alphas are
always the first or leaders in the group. While betas back the alphas up and got their backs. And
last are omegas they are the loser. Betas are more anti and careless of what others care, they don t
care what others think. Steve and Pablo are kind and they try to not interfere in much of what goes
on which are characteristics of a beta. Stanley is forced, pinioned by the two men, into the
bedroom. (pg 63).

The Debate Of Stem Cell Technology Essay
For my casebook, I decided to focus on the topic of stem cell technology. Stem cells are
nonspecialized cells that have the ability to divide for an indefinite length of time and develop
into a variety of cell types. This process primarily occurs early in a person s life while they are
still growing. Stem cells are also used regularly in some organs to repair damaged or worn out
tissue. Stem cells have been found to have many more clinical uses in recent years, though.
Stem cells have been the subject of much research in the scientific community. They have been
looked at as potential cures for everything from hair loss to paralysis. While many of these
claims are promising looks at what the future may hold, media has a tendency to exaggerate the
current status of what is capable with stem cells. This leaves many people guessing about what
is true, and what is just science fiction. The purpose of this casebook is to look at the gray area
of stem cells and help differentiate fact from fiction. I will do this by looking at three major
media outlets that talk about stem cells, and compare what I find with three definitive sources that
have the true facts about stem cells. From my results, we will be able to see how much major
media stretches the truth about stem cells. I used three popular news sources for my casebook. I
used an article from Men s Journal titled Does Stem CellTherapy Actually Work? . This article

Meat Tenderness, And Consumer Perceptions
Meat Tenderness, and Consumer Perceptions
Introduction The current climate of the relationship between the food producing industry and
consumers is volatile. Current self appointed consumer leaders such as Vani Hari, known as the
Food Babe (foodbabe.com) pressure food industry sectors for changes in products. Reasoning for
these changes largely reside in the practices of fear mongering, using terminology outside the
knowledge of the readers these leaders attract, exacerbating worst case scenarios without full
disclosure of required toxic or lethal doses. Common consumer concerns have migrated into the
meat products industry. Consumers often demand livestock animals used for meat production to be
raised similarly to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Post exsanguination, the cellular processes continue to be active until an environmental or substrate
level limitation ceases operation. Koohmaraie et al. (1987) suggested that all animals prior to
slaughter are equally tender. Differences in tenderness level therefore, are a result of the process of
harvest, and the conversion of muscle to meat products. The first 24 hours following slaughter
includes many events that are decisive in the resulting tenderness of meat products. During this
time, energetic biological processes result in decreasing pH within the meat. Muscle rigor delay
phase and onset phase occur, as well as heat dissipation and resultant carcass cooling. Each of
these various factors greatly impact meat quality. pH Changes. The pH of living muscle is 7.0;
literature suggests that final post slaughter pH ranges from 5.3 5.8 (Smulders et al., 1992; Yu et
al., 2008). The decline of muscle pH during the conversion of muscle to meat carries importance
to both meat quality as well as a bacterial growth inhibitor. Ultimate pH in beef carcasses may be
reached from 24 40 hours post mortem (Savell et al., 2005). The decline of pH is a direct result of
adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production maintained in muscle through the anaerobic energy
production system: glycolysis. As blood loss is completed via exsanguination, the ability to
maintain oxygen as the terminal electron acceptor for aerobic ATP production fails

Summary Of On A Tightrope
Before diving into the analysis of the documentary, it is important to gain an understanding of the
context in which the protagonists live. Overall, China has a relatively high Human Development
Index (HDI) ranking of 90 out of 188 countries ( Human Development Report ). This ranking is
reflective of the major development that has occurred in Chinathroughout the last few decades,
but the country s almost mid tier position is indicative of necessary progress that has yet to take
place. To explore this topic a little more, one aspect of the HDI, the Multidimensional Poverty
Index, captures China s level of poverty at 5.2 percent, while 22.7 percent of the population stands
at the edge of multidimensional poverty ( Human Development Report ). Despite the fact that
complete multidimensional poverty is relatively low, socioeconomic disparities affect over a fifth
of the Chinese population. Not to mention, this level of poverty can be especially magnified within
certain groups or ethnicities. In the documentary On a Tightrope directed by Petr Lom, this
occurrence is investigated as the producers film the daily lives of four Uighur orphans in the
province of Xinjiang, China.
In creating the film, the producers focus on the lives of the orphans as they interact with the
tradition of tightrope walking. While watching the film, I understood that both the children and the
coach see tightrope walking as an escape from cyclical poverty. As part of a fairly unacknowledged
minority on

  • 2. The Radicalization Of Terrorist Groups 1. How can extremist groups treat fellow human beings with such cruelty? When we think of a person who joins a terrorist group we think that they must be a psychopath or suffer from some form of mental illness. There has to be something wrong with that individual to be so easily swayed into a group that is so violent and has no regard for human life. However, classic studies like those performed by Milgram and Zimbardo proved that even stable, well adjusted individuals can be capable of inflicting serious harm on fellow human beings without any regret. These studies proved anyone put into the right circumstances could be lead to treat their fellow human beings with extreme cruelty, dehumanization, or even death. Therefore, the majority of ... Radicalization does not happen simply by listening nor by an individual s experiences but if you combine the two they amplify each other and a terrorist could be born. The process of co radicalization was an important factor I learned from this paper. I do not think any of us realize that as a society the West contributes to the making of a terrorist. Muslims are drawn to the West as a society of freedom and the land of opportunity. However, just because there are Muslim we profile and discriminate against them. In doing this most people do not understand that we are basically radicalizing them ourselves. Terrorismis all about division and this puts a big divide between us and the Muslim communities. Leaders and politicians of the West that use aggressive tactics also fuel terrorism. This was made very clear when al Qaeda reaired Donald Trump s reaction to Muslim immigration. This article has been very beneficial for me because I am one of those that feel that we need to take on ISIS in a more aggressive manner. However, after learning about the research regarding radicalization and group dynamics in this article I have gained a better understanding of terrorism and how it works. As David Rothkopf wrote after the Paris massacres last November, overreaction is precisely the wrong response to terrorism. And it s exactly what terrorists want.... • 3. Tartuffe Play Analysis On Saturday, December 3rd at 4 pm, I watched the play Tartuffe at York College. Tartuffe is a classic French play written by Moliere. It was originally named Tartuffe, ou I Imposteur . And it was first performed in 1664. The play is a comedy that centers around the character Tartuffe who is a hypocritical holy man. Throughout the play Moliere indirectly tackles many societal problems in his time. The play starts in Orgon s house. Where him and his mother (Madame Pernelle) are having a discussion about Tartuffe, who is a beggar and a holy man. The other members of this family strongly dislike Tartuffe because they believe that he is a self righteous con artist. In the next scene Orgon returns to his home, just coming from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had rhyming and made every line in his poem have twelve syllables, which is only shown in the French version. In Act 1, Scene 1, line 34 it states, C est vГ©ritablement la tour de Babylone, Car chacun y babille, et tout du long de l aune. This translates to, Parties are towers of Babylon, because The guests all babble on with never a pause. The French quotes shows the rhyme and syllables. From 1830 1870, people began to voice their opinions of the divided nation, raising much conflict. Italy, before its process of revolution began, was mostly ruled by foreign powers and absolute monarchs. The country s citizens decided they wanted a change in their government and freedom from their rulers. In the beginning, the revolt was not organized and resulted in failure until they united and fought as one large group. • 7. Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions Perspectives in Psychology This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in psychology and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective will be discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in psychology. Finally there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each perspective and a conclusion. The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to the bell was considered the conditional response. B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning. Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive (which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable outcomes). Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think. Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory, perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. Takeda also uses the lines themselves in various interesting ways. Whenever there is a flashback scene, the divisions are black, unlike the current events in which they are white. In addition, during her forced recollection of Constantine in Chapter Six, the lines are both black and blurred, showing that this memory is less clear than the others. Another innovative instance is in Chapter One when Maika attacks Sophia with a flamethrower. With the color palettes used in the various settings, Takeda sets the tone for the scenes and allows for better reader clarity. The first major setting in the novel is the city of Zamora, where inside the Cumaean stronghold, jewel tones and gold are the most dominant (Chapter One). This shows the reader the opulence and glamour the Cumaea experience, demonstrating their greed and power, which the reader learns is due to both being born with some magical abilities and their use of Lilium. The Argument Of Violent Video Games Learning is a deep human need, like mating and eating, and like all such needs it is meant to be deeply pleasurable to human beings. ― James Paul Gee, Why Video Games Are Good for Your Soul: Pleasure and Learning. Some people have controversial argument that violent video games should be banned, claiming about the content of video games can change the behavior and attitudes of the players. Since the early 2000s, advocates of video games have emphasized their use as an expressive medium, arguing for their protection under the laws governing freedom of speech and also as an educational tool. Violent video games allow players to divert their aggression into the virtual world instead of the real one. Video games have become not only a form of entertainment, but also another way for people to escape reality and to enter their own virtual fantasy. James Gee explains that, if you blame violent video games for horrific events that have occurred is much like putting the blame on food for the cause of obesity. According to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), 58 percent of all Americans playvideo games, and nearly half of Americans over 50 play. The organization also found that 45 percent of gamers are women and that the average gamer is 30 years old. Gameplayis also on the rise one study shows that average daily video gameplay among kids ages 8 to 18 rose from 26 minutes per day in 1999 to almost 110 minutes (nearly two hours) per day by 2009. The numbers are even higher for boys, 25 percent of whom play video games for four or more hours per day. Violent video games should not be ban because violent video games can be good for developing cognitive, physical, and many more hidden skills, help to understand and learn to control emotions, and banning violent video games is against the fourteenth amendment of the United States. Violent video games strengthen and coordinate to visual skills. Researchers from the University of Rochester found, people who frequently play video games have better visual skills of their surroundings. Than people who do not or rarely play any video game. This means people who play videogames, are better suit around his or her surrounding and could help improve our society. Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the demand for the lower rental costs rises, the vacancy rate or the supply decreased. As the number of available apartments increases, the supply curve shifts right. As the rental rate increases, the supply also increases. By leasing all 2,500 apartments, the rental rate will be pushed to $1,500. The demand curve begins to shift down as the rental rate and supply of apartments increase. If Goodlife increases their rental rate to the $1,500, the demand for the apartments will decrease. To reach the equilibrium Goodlife must decrease the rental rate to $1,050 and in so doing the number of demanded units and the number of supplied units will be equal. Additionally, John Mueller lambasts what he labels as the socially constructed terrorist industry, which he attacks for artificially inflating concerns over terrorist attacks. Instead, Mueller confirms that the damage caused by terrorism is not materially significant but stems primarily from the fear that it creates. Violent retaliation is viewed as a form of self flagellation that provides the terrorists with exactly what they want. As mentioned, realist definitions of power, self interest and rationality lack explanatory prowess when non state actors are able to subvert states thanks largely in part to the use of suicide terrorism. They divide through mitosis and can only be found in organisms that are multicellular. Mammals have two types off stem cells: embryonic stem cells which are obtained from the internal cell mass of blastocysts and adult stem cells which are located in different tissues. In adult organisms, progenitor cells and stem cells function as the repair system of the body which regenerates into fully grown tissues. Due to the ability of stems cells to regenerate and replenish other cells, they can be used in stem cell research and cure (Lim, 2006). There are three sources of adult cells in humans: bone marrow whereby extraction is done by drilling into the bone mainly the femur followed by harvesting of the bone marrow, adipose tissue where extraction is done by a process called liposuction. Lastly is blood can also provide stem cells and the extraction is done through apheresis where blood is drawn from a donor and passed through a machine which extracts only the stem cells and returns other blood components to the donor (Marzilli, 2007). Stem cells can cure diseases because they possess two important features which the other cells of the body lack. In some cases regeneration happens after a long time when they are inactive state. When such cells are exposed to some certain experimental conditions, they can be induced to become organ specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sole recommendation of Lake County was to eliminate local Township Assessors and consolidate all assessment functions to Lake County. They proposed moving from the current system of 18 locally elected Township Assessors with an appointed CCAO, to a centralized system of one appointed county assessor who controlled the whole assessment process. The study estimated that this centralized assessment process would result in a reduction of $4.4 million dollars in overall county wide costs. This reduction in costs would eliminate the 18 local assessment offices spread throughout Lake County and only provided for one assessment office in Waukegan. Agriculture has undergone an extensive expansion and transformation throughout the last few centuries, beginning with the Industrial Revolution of the late 1700s. New technology allowed for better and greater methods of production. With the development of modern technology, people try to think some way can plant less, get more. Many farmers plant only one crop in the same place year after year. However, those against monocropping claim that it is very hard on the environment and actually less profitable than organic means of farming ( Monoculture Crops Learn About The Effects Of Monocropping ). In addition, the destructive nature of agriculturehas recently shown its hand. While our supermarkets, convenience stores, and restaurants are filled with abundant food options, people forget to ask themselves where all this food comes from. Globalization has opened up economies of scale and has allowed people to tap into different types of products, whether that is food or clothing. But the availability of an increased mass market comes at a cost. However, today, the modern farming techniques have grown into a headache for farmers and governments alike, because they are the consequences of overproduction, industrial waste and other problems arising from the modern methods of agriculture. • 32. An Assessment Into The Bankruptcy Examiner s Report... The purpose of this memo is to provide an assessment into the Bankruptcy Examiner s report regarding the risk management failure as it relates to Leman Brothers. The fundamental reason for the failure is based on the change in corporate strategy of 2006 in which Lehman decided to shift from a moving or securitization business to a storage business, with the firm making and holding longer term, riskinvestments. This strategic positioning was fully supported by the board, although the chief risk officer and certain senior risk managementexecutives had expressed concerns about the extent of the change to the firm s risk appetite. Strategy Impact: While investment banks are in the business of taking calculated risks they must consider risk within the firms risk appetite. In March 2006 Lehman Brothers adopted a new business strategy to grow its proprietary business from a lower risk brokerage model to a higher risk, capital‐intensive banking model with a focus on expanding three specific areas of principal investment: commercial real estate, leveraged loans and private equity businesses to consume more capital. This strategy was risky due to the firm s high leverage and small equity. This impacted their risk taking significantly because this strategy was generally riskier and more illiquid than their traditional lines of business. • 33. Fast Fashion Vs Slow Fashion Clothing has played an integral role in defining social status and providing functionality. Fashion trends change faster than ever, and prices for clothing have never been so cheap. As a result clothing production has become environmentally detrimental. This phenomenon, called fast fashion, has inadvertently created a counter movement called slow fashion. Slow fashion aims to cut down on clothingwasteby creating consumer awareness, increasing the lifespan of clothing, and choosing ethical stores. While slow fashion, in theory, is an ideal method to curb clothing disposal, it is not without its flaws. Clothes can be labeled in two categories. The first is functionality. This is the physical quality and intrinsic value of wearing a particular garment. An example of this may be pockets, or durable material type and quality. The second category is expressiveness, which is defined by psychological responses and the beauty of clothing. Expressiveness is important to communicate the identity of the wearer. Consumers have identified that expressiveness is the more important of the two categories. Maintaining an in style appearance is more important than having functionality (NiinimГ¤ki, 2). As a result of fast fashion, the functionality of clothes has decreased while expressiveness has increased. Luxury styles can move from high end fashion show to low end bargain clothing rack in a matter of weeks. In order to do so, clothes are mass produced overseas for as cheap as ... Lessons For Women By Zhao B The Lament Of Chinese Women Nelson Huang Professor Wang FYS 13 November 2017 The Lament of Chinese Women China, as one of the four ancient civilizations, has a long history and thus people there have always been emerging in a full complex set of ethical codes under the influence of Taoism and Confucianism. Like many people from other civilizations, Chinese people share a traditional patrilineal society and therefore creates a whole set of gendered stereotypes to classify the social roles of men and women. Till now, those understandings still somehow affect how people act within the community, however, in a negative way. Many women are trapped in those outdated comprehensions of gender roles and thus living in restrained lives. In the past day, women are always instructed to be a gentle wife who serves her husband intimately and sexually, a conservative family member who don t listen or talking about politics or any kinds of men s activities, and the most important things, a mother who can take care of the children in her husband s family and raised them to their work age. These harsh social tasks are incredibly essential for women to follow in the old time. In the book Lessons for Women by Zhao Ban, a series of intelligible moral identities for women are illustrated as well as a stringent list of pros and cons for daily life are exhibited. Stem cells are nonspecialized cells that have the ability to divide for an indefinite length of time and develop into a variety of cell types. This process primarily occurs early in a person s life while they are still growing. Stem cells are also used regularly in some organs to repair damaged or worn out tissue. Stem cells have been found to have many more clinical uses in recent years, though. Stem cells have been the subject of much research in the scientific community. They have been looked at as potential cures for everything from hair loss to paralysis. While many of these claims are promising looks at what the future may hold, media has a tendency to exaggerate the current status of what is capable with stem cells. This leaves many people guessing about what is true, and what is just science fiction. The purpose of this casebook is to look at the gray area of stem cells and help differentiate fact from fiction. I will do this by looking at three major media outlets that talk about stem cells, and compare what I find with three definitive sources that have the true facts about stem cells. From my results, we will be able to see how much major media stretches the truth about stem cells. I used three popular news sources for my casebook. Reasoning for these changes largely reside in the practices of fear mongering, using terminology outside the knowledge of the readers these leaders attract, exacerbating worst case scenarios without full disclosure of required toxic or lethal doses. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Post exsanguination, the cellular processes continue to be active until an environmental or substrate level limitation ceases operation. Koohmaraie et al. (1987) suggested that all animals prior to slaughter are equally tender. Differences in tenderness level therefore, are a result of the process of harvest, and the conversion of muscle to meat products. The first 24 hours following slaughter includes many events that are decisive in the resulting tenderness of meat products. During this time, energetic biological processes result in decreasing pH within the meat. Muscle rigor delay phase and onset phase occur, as well as heat dissipation and resultant carcass cooling. Each of these various factors greatly impact meat quality. pH Changes. The pH of living muscle is 7.0; literature suggests that final post slaughter pH ranges from 5.3 5.8 (Smulders et al., 1992; Yu et al., 2008). The decline of muscle pH during the conversion of muscle to meat carries importance to both meat quality as well as a bacterial growth inhibitor. Ultimate pH in beef carcasses may be reached from 24 40 hours post mortem (Savell et al., 2005). Overall, China has a relatively high Human Development Index (HDI) ranking of 90 out of 188 countries ( Human Development Report ). This ranking is reflective of the major development that has occurred in Chinathroughout the last few decades, but the country s almost mid tier position is indicative of necessary progress that has yet to take place. To explore this topic a little more, one aspect of the HDI, the Multidimensional Poverty Index, captures China s level of poverty at 5.2 percent, while 22.7 percent of the population stands at the edge of multidimensional poverty ( Human Development Report ). Despite the fact that complete multidimensional poverty is relatively low, socioeconomic disparities affect over a fifth of the Chinese population. Not to mention, this level of poverty can be especially magnified within certain groups or ethnicities. In the documentary On a Tightrope directed by Petr Lom, this occurrence is investigated as the producers film the daily lives of four Uighur orphans in the province of Xinjiang, China. In creating the film, the producers focus on the lives of the orphans as they interact with the tradition of tightrope walking.
