Essay on The Influential Power of Oprah Winfrey
How can one person, whom most people have never met, influence the lives of people in the world
today in such positive ways? Oprah Winfrey has been able to persuade and inspire many people
around the world today because she has simply believed in herself and the good of the people. Oprah
once said, Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life because you become what you
believe (Lowe 170). The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Angel Network, and Oprah s Book Club have
been some of the most indoctrinating pieces of work by Oprah. Moreover, these creations have been
the ultimate techniques Oprah has used to reach out to the people of the world. Oprah Winfrey, one of

The Angel Network is a national effort to encourage viewers to make charitable contributions and to
do volunteer work (Lowe 180). The Angel Network has helped educate, clothe, feed, and provide
shelter for the children of Africa. During her travels to Africa, Oprah has provided the children with
items such as books and clothing. Thanks to viewer s generosity, over 16,000 children will receive the
uniforms they need to go to school (Oprah.com Live Your Best Life). Also, the network has rewarded
single, working mothers struggling to provide for their children. For example, due to the lack of
transportation, one mother was awarded a brand new caravan for her and her children. Another
accomplishment of the network has been helping the tsunami victims in Asia. After the tsunami
caused mass destruction, Oprah s Angel Network has responded by raising money to send to the
people of Asia. Moreover, Oprah s Angel Network has teamed up with three worldwide relief and
development organizations that will be working in the area of Arugam Bay and the town of Pavolli,
Sri Lanka and is donating $1 million to help (Oprah.com Live Your Best Life). Whether it is a

applied to other product lines as well. The costs of the program would be minimal since it would
primarily be used for consults to product improvement after initial prototypes or for ideas for new

the XBOX, its product does not fully utilize it computing power thereby limiting its capabilities. As
consumer needs change the console has gone from being just a simple gaming product to an in home
entertainment system and Sony should push it to it max. This can be said for its mobile offerings are
well as the company fails to optimize its products for premium performance; a fault which has led to
dwindling mobile sales. The company needs to develop its peripheral services such as its TV offerings
as well as other attention holding services which would keep consumers glued to its products. It needs
premium original products and services offered through its devices, thereby tying in at least two of its
big sectors; entertainment and gaming. It is something of a farce that a company as big in the
entertainment world as Sony has only been able to provide one original TV show for its PlayStation
providers whereas companies like Netflix are spending upwards of $6 Billion on content development.
Something Google has done very well is use the data it receives from its product offerings to
continuously develop and advance technology for its consumers. Sony needs to learn to do this as well

Why have so many rules that aren t even followed by hundreds of people?By this sorts of actions the

The Resurrection Of Former Prisons Across The World
Prison Theory The resurrection of former prisons across the world has equally captured the awareness
of tourists and scholars alike. While prison museums, as a result of their bleak and in some cases
disturbing subject matter, invert the Disney experience, they proceed to exploit a phenomenon known
as dark tourism, . . . in which people gravitate to sites associated with war, genocide, and other tragic
events for purposes of remembrance education, or even entertainment, (Welch, 1). Generated in order
to convey the aforementioned purpose, the museum effect subjects visitors of the prison museums to a
multilayered encounter with objects, images and space. Utilizing models such as The Clink, Alcatraz,
Eastern State Penitentiary, and Seodaemun prison, this papers purpose is to illustrate the success of the
museum effect in achieving its desired ends of remembrance through memorialization, education and
culturalization through use of images and space, and entertainment through the use of objects.
Space
In order to develop a proper understanding of the museum effect, one must understand each aspect
that contributes to the effect, the first being space. No prison structure better describes the use of space
than Eastern State Penitentiary. Designed by John Haviland, and opened on October 25thth 1829,
Eastern State, also known as the model prison is considered to be the world s first true penitentiary.

The Importance Of A Shatter Zone In The Film Winter s Bone
A shatter zone used to be defined as a belt of randomly fissured or cracked rock that may be filled
with mineral deposits (Moon,pg 1). After World War two the meaning changed dramatically.
According to Moon and Talley, a shatter zone is now is borderlands where refugee populations
migrated in large numbers to escape the pressures of the state and/or the capitalist economies through
which the state exerted itself (Moon, Pg 1). For the Most part, James Scott agrees with Moon and
Talley when he defines a shatter zone as places of resistance to and refuge from some of the most
destructive effects of state making and state rule (Scott,pg 22). This zones are found wherever a large
number of people have gone to seek refuge in out of the way places ( Scott,pg 23). A shatter Zone is
depicted throughout the Film Winter s Bone .
The film, Winter s Bone, open with a shot of Ree Dolly s house. It shows that they are not very well
off, and that the mom is sick and will alway be sick. Ree has assumed her mom s role in taking care of
her young siblings. The film then shows the neighbors skinning a deer to eat. The Dolly family is
watching and hoping that they will bring them some of the meat. The neighbors do bring them meat,
showing a leveling mechanism because a leveling mechanism is to ensure social equality. This shows
that the people living here are self sufficient and do not rely on grocery stores. A sheriff then rolls up
asking for the mom, but ended up just talking to Ree.

Telehealth Technology In Healthcare
Telehealth is a newer form of healthcare that is presenting a positive impact on patients health and on
healthcare costs. Telehealth covers a range of technology from mobile device use to physician to
physician or physician to patient consults through video to assessing a patient physically who is in a
different state or country. This type of technology is becoming an acceptable form of healthcare for
patients, providers and insurers. Telehealth is improving the outcomes for patients while decreasing
the costs of healthcare. Physician offices as well as hospitals are diving deeper into this type of care.
The ability to monitor patients remotely saves time and money for the patient but also decreases visits
to the hospital. In 2012 it was reported that 308,000 patients around the world utilized remote
monitoring for: hypertension, diabetes, congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease and mental health conditions. PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) estimated in 2009 that
utilization of remote monitoring could reduce healthcare costs by $197 billion dollars by 2025. PWC
also found that one out of two respondents surveyed were open to utilizing technology for healthcare.
The Veteran s Administrator s telehealth program showed that utilization of health systems was
reduced by 30% for those enrolled in the telehealth program. (Thomas Hertz, 2013) ... Show more

with an additional 34% offering this type of care in 2016 or 2017. (Smith,

The Meaning Of When Worlds Collide
When Worlds Collide In order to describe the meaning of When Worlds Collide we must individually
address how each of the migrating European cultures, positively or negatively interacted with the
Native Americans. A collision being different then a merging already hints that the two worlds didn t
blend quite so peacefully, at least to begin with. In present day America there is very little native
American culture left standing and that can all be traced back to the eradication of Native American
culture by the Europeans. The first recorded interaction between Europeans and the Native American
(Tainos) was initiated by an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. Under the funding
of the Spanish Monarchs, Columbus intended to travel westward in hope of finding an oceanic
passage to Asia for trade. When Columbus stumbled upon what we now know to have been the
Bahamas, he believed he had found the Indies and thus named the people he discovered Indians . He
went back to Europe bringing along some Tanios and convincing the monarchs he had found a
civilization worth plundering, and people naive enough to lead into slavery. When Columbus returned
to his discovery he found his Spanish crew dead, most likely due to the poor treatment the Tainos had
been receiving. Infuriated Columbus enslaved the people and within 28 years (1492 1520) he had
committed a genocide on the entire tribe. This was the start of a poor relationship between Europeans
and the Natives. Fast

My Decision To Lead Alameda High School s Ski Club
I had wanted to lead Alameda High School s Ski Club as soon as I became a member in freshmen
year. I experienced my first high school ski trip then. During this trip, I met new students from all
grade levels and formed close bonds with them. While I had an amazing time skiing with peers at the
same advanced level as myself, I noticed that the club seem to cater to a certain group of people.
Something just didn t feel quite right.
I was delegated the position of President of the club in the beginning of sophomore year. By this time,
all the upperclassmen had graduated. A club of nineteen, was now a club of three. In addition, the
teacher who facilitated the club for three years, and appointed me the position, left our school. To
further add to the situation, the newly chosen Vice President left the club unexpectedly. Now, there
were only two people left in the club. I had a lot of hard work ahead but thought of it as an opportunity
to grow this club in new ways. I wanted to encourage students with no experience to join. I wanted to

meet our fundraising goal, we surpassed it by more than six hundred dollars. Additionally, the 2016
trip was even more special because Kayla, a high school senior whose arms are paralyzed, was able to

Catholic Church Sex Abuse Scandal
An Introduction to the Issue Throughout the 20th Century, thousands of reports about Catholic priests
and bishops sexually abusing children have been and are continuing to surface into the media. These
reports have been dealt with internally by the church rather than civil authorities. In addition, the
church has also been covering up many of the reports, paying over two billion dollars to prevent the
scandal from being leaked into the public. A letter from the Vatican written in 1997 expressed serious
reservations about reporting priests that were suspected of sexual abuse. The church has been hiding
reports and avoiding suspicion by not acting guilty. Instead of bringing the issue public they have
instead launched a three year investigation of U.S. women religious congregations which cost over
three million. The Vatican leadership also ordered a doctrinal evaluation of the U.S. women religious
leadership s central network, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. Furthermore, bishops
have issued press releases as well as reports and studies. The United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops published two reports on February 27, 2004. The first report written by the John Jay College
of Criminal Justice included the data and statistics of the sexual abuse reports while the second report
written by the National Review Board talks about the cause and effect of the problem. In addition the
USCCB has also enacted the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young

An Excerpt From The Story Of Anne Frank
Screeech! The sound of a car from below freezes all eight people living in a hidden annex, as they
look to each other for comfort. The best theme from the story of Anne Frank is that everyone needs
someone with whom to share life s experiences, although others may believe that a better theme is that
people need a sense of direction in their lives. Everybody needs someone to lean on, and no one can
get through the trials of life alone. The first piece of evidence to support the theme everyone needs
someone with whom to share life s experiences can be found on page 488 in the Anne Frank play. Mr.
Frank has just returned from his time in concentration camp during the war and he is talking to his
friend Miep Gies. His entire family was killed during the second world war. So now Miep is one of the

Societal Identity In Ender s Game
What defines a person s self? Maybe it s something they decide about themselves, or maybe
something quantifiable. In either case, everyone has some sort of Identity. Throughout the novel Ender
s Game, Ender, unsurprisingly the main character, is always questioning who he is both to the rest of
the world and to himself. This soul searching is a great catalyst for the plot to thicken. His identity
crisis can be broken between three categories, societal identity, interpersonal identity and personal
identity. Ender s Identity is Ender s problems with societal identity are apparent even within the first
chapter, when he is called a third (Card 2). This term is a derogatory one which refers to someone

His main crisis of identity has to be that of ending up like his seemingly mentally disturbed and
violent older brother, Peter. When his monitor is taken off of him, he was attacked by a group of
bullies. He subsequently defeated them, but did so in such a brutal way that he couldn t help but feel
guilty of unnecessary violence. This is shown in the quote Ender leaned his head against the wall of
the corridor and cried until the bus came. I am just like Peter. Take my monitor away, and I am just
like Peter. (Card 6). He also shows characteristics of Peter when he is first put on the space station
with other recruits. When he is being harassed by a kid behind him, Ender anticipates the next blow
and grabs the kid s arm, but he ends up breaking it (Card 26). He questions whether he broke the arm
because he wasn t used to null gravity, or because he was angry and couldn t control his outburst. He
displays this quality again later in the book too. When Ender is tested through a random computer
generated simulation test, he gets upset after none of his solutions are working and turns to violence.
This has a deep psychological effect on Ender because Peter is explicitly shown to be who he hates, so
for him to become Peter is to become everything he s avoided trying to become. The struggle between
identities is troubling to say the least, and truly defines his character. Luckily, this feeling of becoming
peter is

Capital Leases and Operating Leases Essay
ACCT 3303 | CAPITAL LEASE vs. OPERATING LEASE | |
Dr. Serge Ryno
ACCT 3303
December 2, 2011
Capital Lease vs. Operating Lease Firms often choose to lease long term assets rather than buy them
for a variety of reasons including the tax benefits that are greater to the lessor than the lessees and
leases offer more flexibility in terms of adjusting to changes in technology and capacity needs. Lease
payments create the same kind of obligation that interest payments on debt create, and have to be
viewed in a similar light. If a firm is allowed to lease a significant portion of its assets and keep it off
its financial statements, an examination of the statements will give a very misleading view of the
company s financial strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The better the financials look, the easier it is to get needed financing in the future. Since there is no
ownership involved, operating leases offer a great deal of flexibility. For example, a small business
doesn t need to worry about equipment becoming obsolete. A company can simply lease newer
equipment. The ability to directly expense leasing costs provides some accounting benefit. When a
company owns an asset, accounting rules dictate that the property, plant or equipment must be
depreciated and held on the balance sheet for the asset s useful life. In effect, this ties up the company
s cash flow and leverages the company to financiers. Operating leases are not subject to these
constraints. One disadvantage of entering an operating lease involves the higher level of expenses
reported. Businesses who enter operating leases record a lease expense for each period throughout the
duration of the lease. These expenses appear on the company s income statement. The income
statement reports the revenues earned for the period, the expenses incurred and the net income for the
period. Operating leases represent temporary arrangements between the lessor and the company. When
the lease expires, the terms of that lease become void. The lessor and the company spend time
renegotiating the terms or ending the relationship. The company needs to reconsider the lease and
evaluate its options on a regular basis. This lack of continuity

Within the field of the visual arts, I investigated how the techniques and implications of the artworks
of Ai Weiwei and Banksy are comparable. In order to answer this question, I observed and analyzed
artworks from both artists, noting the pieces effects on the viewer (me), similar visual qualities, and

As art is constantly changing and evolving, it is important to comprehend the developments being
made in how artists are expressing themselves and their ideas through their work. Furthermore, it is
necessary to understand the role that artwork plays in modern political and social spheres. Art is an
invaluable method of communicating different perspectives regarding significant problems in the
world and their solutions. The relationship between the works of Ai Wei Wei and Banksy is significant
to discuss. Both are contemporary artists who use their work to express thoughts and feelings
regarding pertinent social or political issues. Image is very effective in capturing people s attention,
and both artists take advantage of this to further their opinions on various issues. This topic relates to
my pre existing knowledge because I am already familiar with these artists and their works, as well as
how art can be used to communicate a certain message or idea. The works of Ai Weiwei and Banksy
are particularly note worthy to me as they show the power of art, images, and creativity as a tool for
communication and change in the 21st century. By examining these two artists side by side, I am made
aware of how artistic methods are used by the two artists differently. This allows them to display a
wide array of variety in their works, showing the diversity of ways in which art can be molded to
serve different purposes. However, there are also

Causes Of The Salem Witch Trials Hysteria Of 1692
What caused the Salem Witch Trials Hysteria of 1692? In 1692, in the small village of Salem,
Massachusetts, 20 people were hanged for offenses they did not commit. But what was the charge
against the 20? The answer would be witchcraft. The charges deeply affected the small community.
Neighbor turned on neighbor. Every act that a person made would be carefully scrutinized, dissected,
and repeated to others. This would lead to the question. What caused the Salem Witch Trial Hysteria
of 1692? The 3 main factors that would cause widespread panic in the town of Salem were gender,
marital status, and age, actors and attention seekers, and neighbor conflicts within the village of
Salem.
Firstly, the conflicts were caused by the factors of gender, age, and marital status. When looking at the
total number of men and women who were hanged, the women far outnumbered the men, 13 women
to 7 men (Source A). Of the 24 males who were accused of witchcraft, 15 were married, while of the
110 females accused, 61 were married. This shows that the number of females accused outnumbered
the men and the majority of those accused were married. Of the male accusers, all 5 were single,
ranging from the ages of 11 20, whereas off the 29 females accusers, 23 were single (the other 6 were
married). The ages of the accusers ranged from under 11 to over 21, with the majority being 16 20
years of age. There is a distinct pattern that stands out in the accused and the accusers. The accused

After contemplating this mortality to a great extent, the speaker recognizes the eventual impact that
their father s impending death will have on them. An unexpected focus on their father s mortality leads
the speaker to experience intense love for their father during a seemingly casual phone call.
As the speaker casually calls their parents, a setting of calm expectations is established. While
greeting the speaker, the mother s decision to run out and get (1) the father highlights the lack of
urgency that is present. The mother is calm and fetches the father in an expected and relaxed fashion,
further establishing the calm expectations of the ongoing call. The mother additionally states that the
weather here s so good (2). Heaney s use of the word good reflects the setting of the mother and father
s home; the atmosphere of where they live is pleasant and unperturbed. The weather serves as a
projection of the father s own state, implying that the father is in good health and that death is not yet
looming over him. The last spoken words in the poem reveal that the father was conducting a bit of
weeding (3). The word weeding highlights the capability of the

English As A Symbol Of Power And High Social Status
INTRODUCTION
Education is a nation building and globally inter related activity that unlocks the door to
modernization. It is imparted through formal, informal and non formal ways. For this purpose, there is
a need of interaction among the students, teachers and study material. Usually, educational system at
the primary level follows the medium of instructions in the mother tongue. But at the secondary level,
the students are required to learn one or two unfamiliar languages i.e. English and Urdu. In Pakistan,
the students have to study English as a compulsory subject from K.G to graduation level due to the
following reasons:
i. English is a mean of understanding the foreign and higher educational work. ii. English is an
international language used in research, commerce, aviation, diplomacy and source of scientific and
technological advancement. iii. English is a symbol of power and high social status. (Rehman, 2004)
Language is no doubt an essential part of human life. It is used as a means of communication.
Language has been defined in many ways. Some of these are as a language is a system of arbitrary
vocal symbols by means of which a social group operates (Pahuja, 1994). With the arrival of British in
the sub continent, English replaced the languages of learning and education such as Arabic, Persian
and Sanskrit. A turning point in the socio political history of the sub continent was Lord Macaulay s
decision in 1835 to favour English and bring an end to the

1. What is the definition of Eugenics based on a video clip of Edwin Black?
According to Edwin Black, eugenics is the effort to create a white, blue eyed, blond haired, Nordic
master race in the United States, and wipe away the existence of everyone who did not fit that ideal .
Black goes further by explaining the implementation of this ideal, saying Now who did they want to
wipe away? They wanted to wipe away Mexicans, Italians. They wanted to wipe away the Asians the
Jews, those who they believed were feeble minded, the Deaf, the poor.
The Oxford University Press defines eugenics as the science of improving a human population by
controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics with a further and
rather illuminating explanation which states, Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of
improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis .
2. What did you learn exactly from Edwin Black that you may have not learned in American History?
If I had been asked when eugenics began in practice, I would likely have pointed at Nazi era Europe
prior to seeing Edwin Black s presentation. However, at the conclusion of his speech I found myself
shaken by the fact that eugenics was in practice in California before and during Nazi power. I had
thought of California as, in the past, a brave frontier, and at present, a shining beacon of

Why Do You Want In Life Essay
Life is full of many choices. Anyone can decide to choice whatever they want in life as my friends
always tell me. I have enjoyed life to its fullest. I have made both bad and good choices. When I
started school I wanted to be a Doctor but as times goes on, I decided that there is no way I can be a
Doctor. I changed my mind from that vision when I saw what Doctors do. In my life, I have tried a lot
of sports, and I can say that soccer is the best and my favorite among the rest. Soccer as sports is the
best among all because a lot of people support it all over the world; it has fewer injuries and also
international competition. Many people support soccer. Soccer has a lot of people support it. Every
country that you will go, you will see soccer pitch like every area. The majority of world populations

Soccer brings unity among countries. I remember when U.S.A national team played with Ghana

opportunities to compete internationally. Compare to other sports, no all the countries even participate
it and even if they do, they don t compete for anything. This is why soccer is my favorite because it
gives a lot of opportunities to the youth to represent their country and both youth and amateur level. It

potential to damage the habitat and poison the animals that live there and call it home. Many of the

The Nature Center has also been affected by the lack of water Utah has had in the past few years.
There is a pond on the premises called Avocet pond that has almost dried out. We were assigned to

Gross Domestic Product
I. Introduction
1. Introduction and objectives
The wealth and success of a country is something that theoretically is very hard to measure and
quantify. However, tools called Indexes can be used to report on the past, present or future state of
country. The usage for these Indexes is quite obvious: they can be used to benchmark the situation of a
country compared to its peers, create historical trends in order to estimate if any improvements have
been made throughout the years in multiple fields. Of course, they can also be used as political tools
for the world leaders for internal purposes (linked to government policies) but also external policies as
it can be a mean to determine the power that a country can have on the international level. The main
Index that has been used for the past 80 years and is still used nowadays to measure the economic
wealth is the Gross Domestic Product (or GDP). It is important to remember that the initial goal of
these indexes (and particularly the GDP) is to measure and give a detailed report of the addition,
subtraction and multiplication of certain numbers that compose a country s economy. Therefore, a
measurement tool is not an end goal in itself.
Nevertheless, this index became the reason for an international competition between countries to
decide which one is the most able to bring this number to the maximum. This might not be an issue if
the GDP was not mainly a measurement of the economic wealth of a country. During the years, new

Dna Protein Protein Structure
DNA Polymerase
Proteins are arguably the most structurally and functionally complex structures known to man.
Through evolution spanning billions of years, these macromolecules have been perfected to perform
many functions necessary for life. Proteins contain four distinct levels of structure and are composed
of simple organic compounds known as amino acids. (Alberts, Bruce et al 2000) Amino acids are
joined together by peptide bonds made during protein biosynthesis, and the linked amino acid chain is
known as a polypeptide chain. DNA determines the amino acid sequence and the sequence is what
determines the primary level of protein structure. This level of structure determines the protein s
shape, which affects the assembly and function of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This level is formed whenever multiple polypeptide chains come together to design a single protein.
Some proteins are only composed of one single polypeptide chain, and therefore, do not have a
quaternary level of structure. The four various levels of protein structure give a small insight into how
structurally complicated proteins really are. Functionally, proteins are just as diverse, if not more, as
they are structurally. They are responsible for providing structural support of the cell, aiding
biochemical reactions, assisting the plasma membrane, and a multitude of other functions. One
important aspect of proteins are enzymes, which is a type of protein that catalyzes biochemical
reactions in the cell. A clear majority of enzymes are proteins, but not all proteins are enzymes. It is
safe to say, that without proteins, life would not be possible.
DNA polymerase is an extremely vital protein, located in all cells, that is capable of synthesizing DNA
from nucleotides. (Bebenek, Katarzyna et al 2004) It is also classified as an enzyme, which means it
acts as a catalyst to kick start a biochemical reaction in the cell. While the function of this protein may
sound simple, it is anything but. This protein not only copies the DNA, but also proofreads and
corrects any mistakes in the DNA sequence. With the hefty responsibility of replicating DNA and
passing genetic information from generation to generation, DNA polymerase is one of the most
significant enzymes

Yankee Stadium Economics
The rise in popularity of professional sports over the last century has brought financial gain and
stability to many facets of the economy. Whether it is a new franchise, stadium, or the signing of a big
name player, these activities bring attention to a region or group and influence often comes as a result
of that attention. Money brought into an area from ticket revenue, hotel bookings, merchandise sales,
and other businesses are impacted financially when a stadium is built. The economic influence a
stadium brings to a local economy is a positive one. Many factors come into play when anticipating
the construction of a new stadium. Will the franchise be successful in the market? How will the
stadium impact traffic flow? How long will the project take? What is the total projected cost of the
project? All of these facts are greatly considered, and the pros and cons are assessed. After the initial

Madness and Insanity in Shakespeare s Hamlet
The Necessary Madness of Hamlet
Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, is a complex play, filled with layers of meaning. These are often
revealed through the madness of the characters and the theme of madness throughout the play.
Although Hamlet and Ophelia are the only characters thought to be so afflicted, the reactions of other
characters to this madness mirrors their own preoccupations.
When one refers to madness in Hamlet, most would think of Hamlet s madness, or at least that that he
was pretending to possess. Although Ophelia does go insane and ultimately commits suicide, the
central lunacy of the play revolves around Hamlet himself. Hamlet s plan to act mad is completely
unexplained. It is safe to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polonius is probably the most proactive with his theory, by making elaborate spy plans to test it.
Ophelia reluctantly seems to agree with her father, but it may be presumed that this is because she is
very reliant on him for her opinions. Horatio, Hamlet s best friend, knows that Hamlet is not truly
crazy. Many believe that Hamlet is using an appearance of lunacy in order to be able to express his
contempt for everyone he sees.
The most interesting thing about all of the characters guesses as to the logic behind Hamlet s insanity
is that the majority of their opinions stem from the thing that most plagues or preoccupies them.
Claudius believes that Hamlet is crazy because he has a secret. This was ironic because the secret that
Hamlet does have is that he knows that Claudius is his father s murderer. The very secret that plagues
Claudius is the same that plagues Hamlet. Hamlet s mother, Gertrude, is wrapped up in her guilt about
marrying Claudius so soon after the death of her late husband. She thinks that this must be what makes
Hamlet rant so incoherently. While spying on Hamlet for the King, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern
decide that he is going crazy because he can no longer fulfill his potential. Their betrayal of their
school chum is fueled by the same blind ambition that they believefuels Hamlets insanity. Polonius
thinks that Hamlet must be mad

Loss Of Chance Is An Alternative Cause Of Action
Loss of chance is identified as an alternative cause of action , particularly, in cases of medical
negligence. In recent cases, where actions based on causation have failed, it has succeeded. The onus
lies on the plaintiff to prove negligence by the defendant and loss of a chance of a better outcome.
However, a plaintiff cannot establish that the defendant s negligence probably caused their injury. The
concept of loss of chance is defined as a doctrine that permits the recovery of damages upon
destruction or reduction of prospects to ultimately achieve a more favorable outcome. In the case of
Rufo v Hosking, the court found that In order to recover damages for the loss of a chance of a better
outcome, the plaintiff is required to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, provided negligence is found, more than a one percent (1%) chance of a better outcome
needs to be proven by a plaintiff in order to be awarded damages. However, the quantification of
damages is related to the quantification of the loss of chance in relation to the injury. The value of the
injury could be a small or a large fraction of the amount.
Most recently courts have established the loss of chance doctrine as an alternative or additional cause
of action in medical negligence litigation. Although loss of chance had earlier been recognised in the
High Court of Australia as an suitable cause of action in non medical cases of negligence as well, in
the matter of Sellars v Adelaide Petroleum NL, and had been considered but not implemented in the
medical cases of Chappel v Hart, and Naxakis v Western General Hospital, it was a major factor in the
New South Wales medical case of Rufo v Hosking. Subsequently, the loss of chance has been the basis
of several other successful cases of negligence against doctors or health authorities in New South
Wales, including Halverson v Dobler, State of New South Wales v Burton, and Tabet v Mansour. It
was also successful in the matter of Gavalas v Singh.
In contrast, the concept of loss of chance was rejected in the case of Gregg v Scott, and has not yet
been reconsidered by the High Court. Despite the fact that this case has no authority in Australia, the

Inherit The Wind Matthew Brady Character Analysis
Matthew Harrison Brady
Inherit the Wind is a fictionalized account of the Scope Trial. The character of Matthew Harrison
Brady is based on the historical figure of William Jennings Bryan. In the play Inherit the Wind by
Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, Bertram Cates is behind bars, awaiting trial for teaching

In the play, Brady is admired by many. Reverend Brown tells everybody to get ready! Let us show Mr.

says, I know it is the great zeal of your faith which makes you utter this prayer! But it is possible to be
overzealous, to destroy that which you hope to save so that nothing is left but emptiness (2.1.66 67).
Finally, Brady stands up for the law. He says, I have come because what has happened in a

Compare And Contrast Football And High School Football
Middle school football vs. High school football
How hard do you think high school football is? I m in eighth grade and i was invited to play for our
high school. I can tell you from personal experience that high school practices are very rough. Of
course I was very honored but, it was also very different. The coaches are rough on you but it is worth
it.
First off, you have more freedom in high school. Now what I mean by that is if the coach calls a play
and the quarterback doesn t like it then he can change the play. But, if the play that the quarterback
called fails then we will probably have to run next practice. Also you can talk during practice unlike in
middle school practice. Their both football but high school football is

even on the toilet! If you Google social media addiction facts there are a lot of blogs and a few news
reports about theories of people actually being addicted! Anything can become addictive if it has a
significantly negative impact on a person s life. Professors Tamir and Mitchell at Harvard University
did a study with MRI s and found that when people self disclose there is a stimulation in the part of
the brain linked to reward. Is this stimulation what people are addicted to and does it affect our ?
Social media can help a child be more computer literate, and because technology is only going to
become more prevalent in our lives it is important our future leaders and scientists are in the front seat.
Children can communicate with relatives across the nation, even across the world. It can educate them
on a persons culture which will only help them to be more accepting of diversity. Unfortunately it can

Impact Of The Construction Industry On The Uk Economy
Sector introduction:
Balfour Beatty Plc operates in the heavy construction sub sector of the FTSE 250. This sector is
particularly interesting given the effect recession has had on this sector and the ongoing developments
in the industry. The construction sector in the UK is unique as the output in this sector fell faster than
the whole economy in 2008. It has slipped into recession 3 times over the past 5 years (gov.uk, 2013).
Overall the recession has had a dramatic effect in the construction contracting industry. In recent years
the sector has been plagued with low customer confidence, high unemployment and limited
availability of finance. However now that the UK economy is recovering so is the construction sector,
in August 2014 the sector grew at the fastest pace for seven months since the recession (bbc.co.uk
2014).
Government Initiatives:
Various recent measures have been undertaken by the government which are contributing to the
success of the sector. In 2011 a Localism act was introduced simplifying the planning system which in
turn incentivized growth. A growth and infrastructure act was also implemented which delivered a
further boost to the industry. The government also plans to increase its capital spending plans by £3
billion per annum from 2015 16, meaning an additional investment of £18 billion by 2020 (gov.uk
2013). These schemes have proven successful since their implementation, planning application
approval rates are at a ten year high. Another

Technology s Impact Of Technology And Its Impact On Business
The term technology means the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes mainly in an
industry. The term Innovation is the introduction of something new. When combining these two terms
together as one it is defined as an accord of new products and processes that hold significant
technological changes of products and processes. This is when an innovation has been implemented if
it has been introduced on the market. Technology has such a tremendous impact on today s society
because the pace of life has increased and without it that would not have been possible. Travel is fast,
action is quick, communication is rapid and movement is easy. Things in the era when there was no
technology took hours to complete maybe even days but now things can happen instantly. Technology
has made societies needs met at greater ease and our standard of living has increased. Not only has it
brought advancements in the industrial aspect it has also brought forth advancements in architecture,
engineering, agriculture and even businesses. This is significantly important because technology is
creating more job opportunities than ever before, allowing business to grow and gain more revenue.
What comes with the growth of business is the evolution of more precise research fields to better
things such as genetics, astronomy, health fields, transportation, tourism and the education system
which will allow the world to be a better place overall. If it wasn t for technology we wouldn t have

While prison museums, as a result of their bleak and in some cases disturbing subject matter, invert the Disney experience, they proceed to exploit a phenomenon known as dark tourism, . . . in which people gravitate to sites associated with war, genocide, and other tragic events for purposes of remembrance education, or even entertainment, (Welch, 1). The Meaning Of When Worlds Collide When Worlds Collide In order to describe the meaning of When Worlds Collide we must individually address how each of the migrating European cultures, positively or negatively interacted with the Native Americans. A collision being different then a merging already hints that the two worlds didn t blend quite so peacefully, at least to begin with. In present day America there is very little native American culture left standing and that can all be traced back to the eradication of Native American culture by the Europeans. The first recorded interaction between Europeans and the Native American (Tainos) was initiated by an Italian explorer by the name of Christopher Columbus. Under the funding of the Spanish Monarchs, Columbus intended to travel westward in hope of finding an oceanic passage to Asia for trade. When Columbus stumbled upon what we now know to have been the Bahamas, he believed he had found the Indies and thus named the people he discovered Indians . He went back to Europe bringing along some Tanios and convincing the monarchs he had found a civilization worth plundering, and people naive enough to lead into slavery. When Columbus returned to his discovery he found his Spanish crew dead, most likely due to the poor treatment the Tainos had been receiving. Infuriated Columbus enslaved the people and within 28 years (1492 1520) he had committed a genocide on the entire tribe. This was the start of a poor relationship between Europeans and the Natives. These reports have been dealt with internally by the church rather than civil authorities. In addition, the church has also been covering up many of the reports, paying over two billion dollars to prevent the scandal from being leaked into the public. The church has been hiding reports and avoiding suspicion by not acting guilty. Instead of bringing the issue public they have instead launched a three year investigation of U.S. women religious congregations which cost over three million. The Vatican leadership also ordered a doctrinal evaluation of the U.S. women religious leadership s central network, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. When his monitor is taken off of him, he was attacked by a group of bullies. He subsequently defeated them, but did so in such a brutal way that he couldn t help but feel guilty of unnecessary violence. This is shown in the quote Ender leaned his head against the wall of the corridor and cried until the bus came. I am just like Peter. Take my monitor away, and I am just like Peter. (Card 6). He also shows characteristics of Peter when he is first put on the space station with other recruits. When he is being harassed by a kid behind him, Ender anticipates the next blow and grabs the kid s arm, but he ends up breaking it (Card 26). He questions whether he broke the arm because he wasn t used to null gravity, or because he was angry and couldn t control his outburst. He displays this quality again later in the book too. When Ender is tested through a random computer generated simulation test, he gets upset after none of his solutions are working and turns to violence. This has a deep psychological effect on Ender because Peter is explicitly shown to be who he hates, so for him to become Peter is to become everything he s avoided trying to become. Capital Leases and Operating Leases Essay ACCT 3303 | CAPITAL LEASE vs. OPERATING LEASE | | Dr. Serge Ryno ACCT 3303 December 2, 2011 Capital Lease vs. Operating Lease Firms often choose to lease long term assets rather than buy them for a variety of reasons including the tax benefits that are greater to the lessor than the lessees and leases offer more flexibility in terms of adjusting to changes in technology and capacity needs. Lease payments create the same kind of obligation that interest payments on debt create, and have to be viewed in a similar light. If a firm is allowed to lease a significant portion of its assets and keep it off its financial statements, an examination of the statements will give a very misleading view of the company s financial strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The better the financials look, the easier it is to get needed financing in the future. Since there is no ownership involved, operating leases offer a great deal of flexibility. For example, a small business doesn t need to worry about equipment becoming obsolete. A company can simply lease newer equipment. The ability to directly expense leasing costs provides some accounting benefit. When a company owns an asset, accounting rules dictate that the property, plant or equipment must be depreciated and held on the balance sheet for the asset s useful life. In effect, this ties up the company s cash flow and leverages the company to financiers. Operating leases are not subject to these constraints. One disadvantage of entering an operating lease involves the higher level of expenses reported. Businesses who enter operating leases record a lease expense for each period throughout the duration of the lease. These expenses appear on the company s income statement. The income statement reports the revenues earned for the period, the expenses incurred and the net income for the period. Operating leases represent temporary arrangements between the lessor and the company. When the lease expires, the terms of that lease become void. The lessor and the company spend time renegotiating the terms or ending the relationship. The company needs to reconsider the lease and evaluate its options on a regular basis. • 25. Asl 3 Take Home Exam Cody Faucher 14 December 2016 ASL 3 Take Home Exam 1. What is the definition of Eugenics based on a video clip of Edwin Black? According to Edwin Black, eugenics is the effort to create a white, blue eyed, blond haired, Nordic master race in the United States, and wipe away the existence of everyone who did not fit that ideal . Black goes further by explaining the implementation of this ideal, saying Now who did they want to wipe away? They wanted to wipe away Mexicans, Italians. They wanted to wipe away the Asians the Jews, those who they believed were feeble minded, the Deaf, the poor. The Oxford University Press defines eugenics as the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics with a further and rather illuminating explanation which states, Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis . 2. What did you learn exactly from Edwin Black that you may have not learned in American History? If I had been asked when eugenics began in practice, I would likely have pointed at Nazi era Europe prior to seeing Edwin Black s presentation. However, at the conclusion of his speech I found myself shaken by the fact that eugenics was in practice in California before and during Nazi power. • 30. Gross Domestic Product I. Introduction 1. Introduction and objectives The wealth and success of a country is something that theoretically is very hard to measure and quantify. However, tools called Indexes can be used to report on the past, present or future state of country. The usage for these Indexes is quite obvious: they can be used to benchmark the situation of a country compared to its peers, create historical trends in order to estimate if any improvements have been made throughout the years in multiple fields. Of course, they can also be used as political tools for the world leaders for internal purposes (linked to government policies) but also external policies as it can be a mean to determine the power that a country can have on the international level. The main Index that has been used for the past 80 years and is still used nowadays to measure the economic wealth is the Gross Domestic Product (or GDP). It is important to remember that the initial goal of these indexes (and particularly the GDP) is to measure and give a detailed report of the addition, subtraction and multiplication of certain numbers that compose a country s economy. Therefore, a measurement tool is not an end goal in itself. Nevertheless, this index became the reason for an international competition between countries to decide which one is the most able to bring this number to the maximum. This might not be an issue if the GDP was not mainly a measurement of the economic wealth of a country. During the years, new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through evolution spanning billions of years, these macromolecules have been perfected to perform many functions necessary for life. Proteins contain four distinct levels of structure and are composed of simple organic compounds known as amino acids. (Alberts, Bruce et al 2000) Amino acids are joined together by peptide bonds made during protein biosynthesis, and the linked amino acid chain is known as a polypeptide chain. DNA determines the amino acid sequence and the sequence is what determines the primary level of protein structure. This level of structure determines the protein s shape, which affects the assembly and function of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This level is formed whenever multiple polypeptide chains come together to design a single protein. Some proteins are only composed of one single polypeptide chain, and therefore, do not have a quaternary level of structure. The four various levels of protein structure give a small insight into how structurally complicated proteins really are. Functionally, proteins are just as diverse, if not more, as they are structurally. They are responsible for providing structural support of the cell, aiding biochemical reactions, assisting the plasma membrane, and a multitude of other functions. One important aspect of proteins are enzymes, which is a type of protein that catalyzes biochemical reactions in the cell. A clear majority of enzymes are proteins, but not all proteins are enzymes. It is safe to say, that without proteins, life would not be possible. DNA polymerase is an extremely vital protein, located in all cells, that is capable of synthesizing DNA from nucleotides. (Bebenek, Katarzyna et al 2004) It is also classified as an enzyme, which means it acts as a catalyst to kick start a biochemical reaction in the cell. While the function of this protein may sound simple, it is anything but. This protein not only copies the DNA, but also proofreads and corrects any mistakes in the DNA sequence. With the hefty responsibility of replicating DNA and passing genetic information from generation to generation, DNA polymerase is one of the most significant enzymes ...
