Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help
you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Taken directly from God s Word, I was
reminded by my Professor this week of one of my favorite verses from the book of Isaiah.
Interestingly enough, before I began my venture into higher education, I was scared: scared of
failure, scared of the commitment it would require, and even scared of the possibility that I just
might not be cut out for the task ahead. This verse, Isaiah 41:10, along with several other
Scriptures, helped to assure me that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as 1 Corinthians 13:11 reminds us, When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a
child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things, even my style of
learning has changed. Until this semester, I would say that of course I had the characteristics to
be a successful online student; how hard could it be? But, ironically, during the same week that I
first read Taormino s article, I began to fall behind in my classes. As I write this paper, I m
juggling extra duties at home while my wife and I both recover from a nasty car accident.
Fortunately neither of us were seriously hurt, but because my wife already suffers from a chronic
autoimmune disease, even her minor injuries were enough to throw her into a painful exacerbation.
What does this have to do with my online education? Well, everything, to be honest. All of the time
I normally had set aside for my coursework must now be devoted to the daily management of our
home (things that my wife usually takes care of). It s astonishing how quickly time gets away from
us! I ve learned through this series of unfortunate events that I must take control of my time, rather
than allowing it to take control of me. As Taormino asserts, Students need to plan their time
accordingly to have sufficient opportunity to complete assignments and work iteratively based on
feedback. Without time

Class Ethics And Values At Jackson State University
When I first entered the field of social work at Southwest Mississippi Community College, I was
clueless as to what the social work profession entailed. At Southwest MS Community College, we
mostly focused on perquisites and a few classes related to family. After, leaving Southwest MS
Community College and entering Jackson State University, I realized my previous college did not
teach me anything relating to the field of social work. However, my entry in my first class Ethics
and Values at Jackson State University taught me about the six core values in social work, such as
service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships,
integrity and competence. Upon, my entry into JSU, Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) program,
I understood that social work was not about assisting only children. There is masses of people
who need, social workers to advocate for better housing, food, medical care and other basic
necessities to survive everyday life.
The question asked what is my understanding of the social work profession , social work is a
field, where people are compassionate about helping others live comfortably within their
environment. By providing them with services needed within that moment. It serves as a guide to
people, who are not aware of resources that is available to them. The social work profession
generates the needs and emotions of other people. I imagine the social work profession as a
listening ear. For instance, a client might be

Why Is Animal Cruelty Wrong
Animal cruelty is a global wide issue that has been happening for many, many years. It happens
in all parts of the world, and happens to several different species of animals. From dogs, to cats,
to cows and chickens, each and everyday animal abuse happens. Animal abuse is simply wrong,
and there is no reason for any person anywhere, for any reason to hurt an innocent creature, no
matter what. However, many people who are involved with animal abuse refuse to admit to being
apart of it, and will do everything in their power to deny any type of actions.
An attributing topic to the controversy of animal cruelty is the animal testing done on animals by
large companies. Woman and men who enjoy using cosmetics consume these products by spending
a large sum of money each year on their beauty regimen every year. There are several companies
that use animals to test their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In recent years, with the rapidly increasing of automatic driving technology, pedestrian detection
becomes a new and interesting area in computer vision. And the key applications are mostly in
intelligent vehicles, surveillance, advanced robotics and so on. Since 2005, pedestrian detection
has entered a stage of development, but there are still many problems to be solved, mainly in terms
of the performance of detection and speed of it. In these years, many companies like Google, try
their best to do the research about pedestrian detection, in order to ensure that during the autopilot

THE NETHODS BASED ON BACKGROUND MODELING
Introduction
Background modeling method is a method that we can use it to extract the objects in the
foreground and the target area for the aim of feature extraction. After that we can use the classifier
to classify and then we can judge whether this image include the pedestrian.
Though there are many advantages about background modeling, there still exists many
disadvantages in background modeling method. At first, it must suit the change of environment.
Many factors can result in the change of environment, such that illumination. If the illumination
changes, the color of the images will change. For example, in the condition of sufficient light, the
color of the grass will change from dark green to light green. This change will make the background
modeling fails.
The second disadvantage of background modeling is that if the camera shakes, this will make the
image shake. For example, if you hold your camera and take a picture, it is easy to get a blurred
image, which is difficult to extract the features. Based on this reason, it is a kind of disadvantage of
background

Def Leppard Influence On History
Def Leppard
Def Leppard was a music band of the 20th century, that brought heavy metal music to people all
around the world. It all started when five kids came together wanting to play music. Then went on
to be the most well known bands in history. Def Leppard has become one of the best bands of the
20th century.
Def Leppard was a band that had five kids interested in music in many ways. For example, Phillip
Kenneth became interested when he got his first guitar when he was 16. Also, Rick Allen was
11 years old when his parents got him his first drum set (Jeffery, 2011). When the band began to
play at a younger age, it inspired them to play for a career. This inspired them to love playing
music which lead them to their successful career. In addition, to them being inspired to play, their
childhood has played a role too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, once Rick Allen got his drum set he practice every morning when he woke up he

affect them to start their career. Since, their childhood played a role they went to start their career,
which later played out as them meeting.
The members of the band came from different paths, but eventually formed one group. Some
examples are, Richard savage and Peter Willis knew each other from school and started up a band
called Atomic Mass. Another example is that Rick Allan dropped out of school to be in the band
Def Leppard (Jeffery, 2011). Once they started the band, Joe Elliott contributed to the naming of the
band Def Leppard . How the band met was very important and that s what started it all. In addition,

Joan Of Arc Thesis
Joan Of Arc
1430
Joan of Arc has been taken by the Burgundians and taken to the castle of Bouvreuil. It is
confirmed that she is being pronounced a death sentence. On the morning of May 30th, she is to
be burned at the stake at the old marketplace of Rouen. They have charged her with many things,
including witchcraft and dressing like a man. So far, no one has attempted to save her from them,
not even King Charles. He is predicting that they want to take the King and Joan out of power.
Therefore, he is fearful to make an attempt to help Joan.
This all started in 1412 when Joan of Arc was born. She claimed to hear the voice of God at the age
of 13. She had one mission from this voice, to save France by getting rid of the enemies and making

Supply and Demand and Price Essay
1.Name two types of market failure. Explain why each may cause market outcomes to be inefficient.
Market Power In some markets, a single buyer or seller may be able to control the market prices.
Market Power can cause inefficiency because it keeps the price and quantity away from the
equilibrium of supply and demand.
Externalities The impact of one person s actions on the well being of a bystander. Since buyers and
sellers do not consider these side effects when deciding how much to consume and produce, the
equilibrium in a market can be inefficient from the standpoint of society as a whole.
2.What happens to consumer and producer surplus when the sale of a good is taxed? How does the
change in consumer and producer surplus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because people will continue demanding/buying the product. No matter how expensive
bread may become, people will still rely on it as a necessary staple of survival. On the other side of
the coin, when demand is more elastic, the deadweight loss will be greater since the demand
curve is flatter. The less people rely on a service/product the more likely they will be to forfeit its
usage.
4.What does the domestic price that prevails without international trade tell us about a nation s
comparative advantage?
The effects of free trade can be determined by comparing the domestic price without trade to the
world price. A low domestic price indicates that the country has a comparative advantage in
producing that good and that the country will become an exporter. A high domestic price indicates
that the world has a comparative advantage and that the country will become an importer. When a
country becomes an exporter, producers are better off than consumers. When a country becomes an
importer, consumers are stronger than producers. In both situations, the gains from the trade exceed
the losses.
5.What is the difference between the unilateral and multilateral approaches to achieving free trade?
Give an example of each.

The Importance Of T Cells
T cells play a central role in the activation of cellular immunity and are of key importance to the
maintenance of immunological memory. In cellular immunity, the effector phase is triggered
once the T cell receptors (TCRs) expressed on the surface of T lymphocytes engages specific
peptide antigens (Ags) presented by MHC molecules, and regarded as one of the key discoveries
in our understanding of the adaptive immune response. Presumably, due to the selective pressure
exerted by the pathogens, T cells have evolved to recognize a range of chemically distinct antigens
such as lipids and vitamin B metabolites and challenged the prevailing view that T cells are solely
reactive to peptide antigens presented by MHC molecules. Perhaps one of the... Show more content

The above holds true particularly when mouse model is used to evaluate the functional outcome of
NKT cells, wherein the role of CD1d2 in antigen presentation and NKT TCR recognition remain
obscure. This is has been overcome with the crystal structure of the CD1d2, which has now
provided a valuable insight into the antigen presentation mechanism mediated by CD1d2. The
crystal structure has identified a smaller A antigen binding pocket in CD1d2, which in turn
indicated the possible requirement of shorter acyl chain length lipid for its antigen presentation.
Given that most of the antigens that were studied in the context of NKT cell mediated immunity
required longer A pocket compared to the relative size in CD1d2, the study indicates that CD1d2
might present a different set of lipid antigens for NKT TCR recognition. Further, owing to their
monomorphic nature, the finding can be used as a potential lead to evaluate how the difference in
antigen presentation can impact the reactivity of NKT cells and subsequently the outcome of the
NKT cell mediated immune response. In addition, the crystal structure could be used as a platform
for the development of novel immunotherapeutics with the special focus on CD1d2 restricted NKT
cells. In future, the study will be aimed to address the structural basis of NKT TCR CD1d2 Ag
recognition, which will considerably help us in understanding the basis of CD1d2 in lipid mediated

Battelheim Meaning
In the introduction of Bruno Bettelheim s, The Uses of Enchantment, the struggle for meaning is
not just something that the young deal with but people in all stages of life. Bettelheim suggest that
our experiences in life can contribute to our development in understanding the meaning of life.
Bettelheim states that, The child, as he develops, must learn step by step to understand himself
better; with this he becomes more able to understand others, and eventually can relate to them in
ways which are mutually satisfying and meaningful. Bettelheim acknowledges that children s
literature should add significance, adee access to a deeper meaning, stimulate emotions, and enrich
a child s life. Bettelheim suggest that this kind of meaning can be found in fairy tales. Bettelheim
quotes the German poet Schiller who wrote: Deeper meaning resides in the fairy tales told to me in
my childhood than in the truth that is taught by life. Bettelheim believed that fairy tales can be
influential at an age.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bettelheim insists that fairy tales bring awareness, expand a child s imagination, and offer
solutions in a way that a child can understand. In Bettelheim s views, Fairytales are unique, not
only as a form of literature, but as works of art which are fully comprehensible to the child, as no
other form of art is. As with all great art, the fairy tale s deepest meaning will be different for each
person, and different for the same person at various moments in his life. Bettelheim emphasizes that
fairy tales have important meanings but the personal meaning will be different ass it applies to a
person s

Should Driving Be Strict Driving Essay
Have you ever wondered what s one of cause of death or teens? Land transport accident is one of
the five leading causes of death for teens aged 16 19. Teens today make up 13% of the
population, but 14% of that 13% is at risk of suffering a car crash that has resulted in death or
injuries. With all the research from teen drivingorganizations people have gathered on this topic,
teens should have a stricter limit on driving by increasing the age limit and reinforcing rules.
Imagine your son, daughter, or relative, or was in the hospital or just got into the hospital due to
driving not just texting but simply reckless driving. How would you feel, how could you move
on. A story on the Chicago Tribune tells about a young teenager, 15, named Taylor Darveau.
Taylor was with an older friend, Samantha goode, 16, at the time of this devastating occurrence,
Goode had an unknown history with car racing with fellow teens. With that knowledge it
resulted in a crash that cost the life of a young bright girl, Taylor Darveau.. If teens like
Samantha weren t driving on the road with an unrelieved driving past due to a stricter limit then
we would still have Taylor and an average of 9 more teens aged 15 20 lives saved daily. According

Analysis Of Mickey Mouse Is A Hero Of The Great Gatsby By...
Mickey Mouse is a well loved symbol of the greatness of America. He represents a long carefree
era when everything in the world has gone well for the most prosperous nation on earth. He
symbolises the prosperity of Americans throughout a period when they have dominated the world
both economically and politically.
It is significant that a creature often viewed in other countries as a pest to be eradicated can rise in
the United States of America to become a movie star and a household name. This symbolises the
American dream where everyone (including apparently rodents and quite possibly many other non
human personalities) can expect freedom of speech, freedom of actions and freedom to make an
honest living. It is important to note in this context that the rise to fame and/or riches of an
underdog has long been a popular theme in the folk lore of western countries in general but of
America in particular.
Not content to make a hero out of one rodent, the American public has also idolised Mickey s
partner Minnie. It is interesting to note that Mickey and Minnie frequently demonstrate behavior
not unlike human courtship behavior. It is also interesting to note that this happily unmarried
couple remain perpetually in this state of innocent bliss. This state seems to capture the innocence
of childhood that children do not know they have and adults reminisce about incessantly.
In addition to their role as a platonic couple Mickey and Minnie demonstrate socially acceptable

America is a selfish country that thinks that they are beyond others and everyone s out to get

Little Falls History
The first people who discovered the land that would become the Town of Little Falls are known
as the Mohawk Indians. The Mohawk Indians called the land Little Falls so the could differentiate
this land from another land called Big Falls at Cohoes. When white traders discovered this land in
the early 1600s they explored it and eventually bought it from the Mohawk Indians in 1722 and
from then on people started settling in Little Falls (Little Falls). Around a hundred years after the
purchase of Little Falls the Erie Canalwas built. The Erie Canal was the main source of commerce

so Clinton, Thomas Eddy, Peter Porter, James Geddes, William North, Gouverneur Morris, and
Stephen Van Rensselaer, all canal commissioners, traveled the thirty hour tour up the Hudson to do

companies up and down the Mohawk river, between Albany, Oswego and Buffalo, they asked

commissioner members finished their expedition of the Hudson and Mohawk river all of them
were convinced that the canal was not a good idea except for Peter Porter. Porter believed that
the canal could be built right alongside the Mohawk river using the unpredictable waters as their
water source for the canal. Much later after the expedition of the Hudson and Mohawk river De

important role in this book because it catches the children s attention and helps bring the book to

the all knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he
shares all of his scales (Pfister 14 16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales

The Stock Market Is Important For Success Or Failure Essay
The stock market can be very risky and it can be intimidating to someone with no experience
dealing with stocks. However, with the right research and a lot of patience it is possible to be
successful, but it will not be without challenges. The stock market can be highly unpredictable and
can fluctuate at times for reasons we either do not understand or cannot see. Even with research and
planning investing in the stock marketis a risk, so it is better to approach it with the most
information possible. How well you understand stocks and the stock market can be key factors in
your success or failure.
The first thing a person starting out in stock market investments will need to research is
themselves. You will need to look closely at your financial situation and figure out not only how
much you can afford to invest, but how much you can afford to lose. While these two things
sound like they would be the same thing, they are not. Most people tend to think of investing as
making money, not losing it. However, it is possible that a person could lose everything that they
invested. The stock market crash in 1929 left many investors penniless and devastated
(Colombo). You have to research your finances and decide how much to invest with this type of
possibility in mind. The stock market is very unpredictable and the right research here can be the
difference between bouncing back after a loss and losing everything. You also need to figure out
what your goals are. If your goal is to

Gospel Of Luke Wealth
In the Gospel of Luke, heaven is signified by Jesus Kingdom and can be entered even by those
who sin as long as they repent their sins. Jesus informs human beings that in order to enter his
kingdom, you must be a righteous person at the time of death. The themes of love, wealth, and
poverty embrace Jesusteachings. He states explicitly that you must love thy enemy like you love
thy neighbor in order to be allowed into Heaven. You must bless them, care for them and when
stricken on the cheek you must offer up the other one. In order to love thy neighbor, Jesus tells
human beings that they must, [take] pity on him (Luke 10:35 25 37). Rather than ignore a half

He tells humans that, each tree is known by its own fruit , implying that you are loved by Jesus
through your actions rather than your possessions. Any man can do good to someone who does
good to him, but only a good heart can produce good treasure. The theme of love continues to
connect with the themes of poverty and wealth throughout the Gospel of Luke. Rather than being
contempt with a life full of greed, Jesus wants you to share your wealth because, you cannot serve
both God and Money. In order to enter the Kingdom, you must do things for others rather than
yourself. If you do what is righteous you will be blessed and repaid in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus pronounces in chapter 12 of Luke that, a man s life does not consist in the abundance of
his possessions. No matter how much wealth you have, you are no different than a man who has
nothing if you are not kind hearted. Chapter 12 of Luke ties back to the golden rule stated in
chapter 6, line 31; do to other as you would have them to do to you , If you want to enter Jesus
Kingdom you must share your wealth rather than build a bigger barn and take life easy. If you
become choked by life s worries, riches, and pleasures then you have not retained the word of
Jesus and you must not have, a noble and good heart , therefore, you cannot enter Jesus Kingdom

Harlow s Rhesus Monkey Experiment
Harry and Margaret Harlow s experiment was mostly centered on social development, which the
sole stars of the experiment: Rhesus Monkeys. A significant amount of observations were found in
the experiment. These directly related themselves to the limited social contact of humans. It was
specifically aimed toward the cases of isolated and feral children. In these experiments, or
observations, it is demonstrated that human or mother contact is necessary to the development of a
child. In Harlow s rhesus monkey experiment, Harlow placed monkeys in separate cages to isolate
them, or leave alone without any interaction. In the cages with the monkeys, he placed a cloth. The

My Very Detailed Trip to the Wildlife Zoo in Arizona Essay
My family and I went on a road trip to Phoenix, Arizona in late October. This is going to be a
little description of what went on during this trip and all the different things I saw. Most of this
will be about my trip to the Wildlife world zoo since that was the biggest thing that happened
during the trip. The first thing I should mention, Since of course it was the first thing we saw, Is
the amazing scenery on the way up here. We passed through parts of Oklahoma, Texas, And New
Mexico that I ve never seen before Although going to all three places previously! Since it was late
in October when the road trip was taking place it was quite chilly all the way until we hit Phoenix

I m going to name and give a brief description of a few notable animals from the Aquarium first.
One of the most strange and different animals I saw there was an Axolotl, A Mexican
Salamander that lives in the water although they aren t fish, But amphibians. The Axolotl is
classed as critically endangered due to the fact that they were sold in Mexico as food and the
polluted water. The Axolotl is a really special animal and very different from others due to the
fact that it can regenerate its own limbs and their rarity. Another really strange animal is the
Blind Cavefish, A fish that is born with eyes but as they age skin grows over their eyes, Making
them blind. They are warm water fish that like the deep and dark caves of Central America.
Although they can t see, They can sense light and swim away from it, Naturally preferring the
dark. I think this fish really suites its name and they are very interesting to watch. Poisonous Dart

Including the tropical parts of Central and South America. Many species of these frogs are

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Western Scientific Medicine
Western Scientific Medicine or WSM involves many healthcare professionals which include doctors
pharmacists and therapists in which they try to treat diseases or disorders with drugs surgery or
other forms of procedures such as radiotherapy. Traditional Medicine relates to many different
cultures and the way that many cultures prevented mental and physical illness as well as
diagnosing the disorder and improving the treatment. It is a total sum of different cultures
combining the knowledge and skills they had which was based on the theories and beliefs that the
different cultures had. Complementary and alternative medicineincludes practises such as
acupuncture, Tai Chi, Massages and drinking infused teas such as green tea. CAM is not part of

The Negative Effects Of Technology On Communication
Did you know that Canadians between 18 and 34 years old are spending on average 34 hours
per week on the Internet? This number is only increasing as the years go by. Around 74% of
individuals 65 and up are using the Internet regularly. This is a drastic change from 10 years ago,
as it has increased by 54% (Thomson, 2017). How have we come so far, but to feel like we aren t
going anywhere? Things need to be done if we want to see any change for the future. There is a
significant correlation between technology and communication. By addressing the negative effects
that technology has on face to face communication, how technology has changed the way we
communicate with others, and why we expect more from technology rather than with another
human being, we can better understand the many factors that we must acknowledge in order for us
to move forward.
Technology is a great distraction everywhere; whether it is at home, in the office, or when
travelling. Hundreds of thousands of people suffer injuries from accidents caused by distracted
driving involving technology. People become so distracted at work that they forget about more
pressing matters (Kazmeyer, n.d.). Technology has become an important part of the way we
communicate. It has gone so far as to take the place of face to face communication (Drago, 2015).
By addressing the negative effects that technology has on face to face communication, it is the first
step in admitting that there is something wrong with the world that

Skateboarding Vs. Longboarding
Skateboarding vs. Longboarding Everyone knows what skateboarding is and has an opinion on
the sport. However, not very many people know or have even heard about longboarding.
Because of this, most people just assume that skateboarding and longboarding are similar in
sport and that the same stereotypes of skateboarders can be given to longboarders. That is not
the case at all. Even though they may seem similar longboarding has its own unique attributes
that set it apart from skateboarding. Skateboarding and longboarding were both invented in 1959
as a way to surf in the absence of rideable waves. They first called it, sidewalk surfing . These two
styles of riding grew, except skateboarding became a lot more popular. Skateboarders enjoy... Show

Longboards have bigger everything. The decks can be anywhere around thirty five to forty five
inches long. Skateboards are usually shorter, twenty eight to thirty two inches. Skateboards are
also not as wide as a longboard. Longboards tend to be around 10 inches wide while a skateboard is
mainly only eight inches wide. These differences in the deck give the unique uses for each. The
smaller build of a skateboard allows it to be maneuvered easily for tricks. On the other hand,
longboards are built for stability. Modern skateboards differ only in minor details like the brand
or materials. Wheel size, deck size, truck specifications, and deck shapes don t vary much.
Longboards, however, have several different styles of the decks, wheels, and trucks. Longboards
can be built in deck styles such as pintail, drop through, drop down, and speedboard. Along with
the general style of a deck there are also options for how the deck itself is shaped and built. Some
aspects of unique longboards are the build material, rocker vs. camber, concave, grip tape, and
flex. Longboard wheels are unique in the durometer and diameter of each wheel. Trucks can be
positioned at different angles as well as being outfitted with specific bushings to accommodate the
responsiveness the rider desires. Each style has its own perks and attributes which allows a rider to

Theme Of Corruption In The Miller
Consistently dishonest to his customers, The Miller is a great example of this kind of
corruption. The main job of The Miller is to sell grain to families, thus providing them with
food. The moral expectation of this job seems high, as families who must pay for grain are of a
lower class. As a result, The Miller is most likely seen as a savior to many people of the lower
class. Chaucer, at first, supports this saying, His mighty mouth was like a furnace door. / A
wrangler and buffoon, he had a store / Of tavern stories, filthy in the main (Chaucer 575 577). In
other words, The Miller seems to be an overall well rounded, humorous guy. So much so, that no
one has any reason to think that he might be cheating them out of their money. Yet, in the very next
line, Chaucer describes him in a much different way: His was a master hand at stealing grain.
/ He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew / Its quality and took three times his due ( The Miller
578 580). Obviously, The Miller is receiving more money than he actually deserves because he
places his thumb on the scale, making the grain weigh more. Although no one is aware, The Miller
constantly takes advantage of his clients by making them pay more than their fair share. Although
he does not appear corrupt to most, The Miller is dishonest and cheats many people who are
involved in his trade.
Chaucer also stretches this theme seen in The Miller into The Doctor s prologue. In general, Doctor
s are viewed a good, moral,

The Importance Of Police Integrity In The Police
The world is full of crime and hate. When you think of criminal, an image pops in your head of
someone wearing bland clothing with a mask or a thug with gang tattoos. Some criminals are
harder to spot, like those who commit white collar crime. What happens when the police officers
who are supposed to enforce the law, are the actual criminals? During the 1990 s in Los Angeles,
the Los Angeles Police Department(LAPD) was full of policewho were criminals. The Rampart
incident is a textbook example of how criminal activity can be found even in the law enforcement
branch of our society. To get a better understanding what police corruption is, one must understand
the importance of the police having integrity. Integrity means that a person is honest and has strong
moral and will do the right thing. For the police department in a community to have integrity, it
means that there is little or no misconduct by police officers and the office follow the Police Code
of Ethics. The level of integrity within each police department depends on how the department is
managed, which then dictates how officers act toward the community, and how the officers acts
determines how the public views the integrity of the police. (Police Integrity)
When police departments do not have integrity it is called police corruption. For corruption, three
distinct elements must be present, 1) miss use of authority, 2) miss use of official capacity, and 3)
miss use of personal attainment (Dantzker, 1995).

Precious Metals Research Paper
Precious metals do not have their own group on the periodic table. They are arranged together on
the table. These elements do have the same chemical properties, however they do not have their
own classification. All of these metals do not rust, they are resistant to oxidation and corrosion and
they only break down when they are in high temperatures. Gold (Au), silver(Ag), platinum(Pt),
ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium(Pd), iridium (Ir), and osmium (Os) all have similar
properties and are considered to be precious metals.1
Many of these elements were found in platinum ores. Scientists used aqua regia, an acid that can

platinum ores. They ended up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only elements that were not found in this process was gold and silver. These two metals were
known since ancient times. If they were to use aqua regia, then the pure substances of gold and
silver would be extracted from the ore.
Platinum was discovered by Antonio de Ulloa in 1735. Ulloa established the first mineralogy lab in
Spain and was the first to study platinum. Platinum was first recognized as an element in 1774
when Charles Wood isolated the ore with aqua regia. Then the pure form of platinum was found in
the residue. However, there were more than one substance that was unknown in the residue.
Hippolyte Victor Collet Descotils believed that there was an unidentified metals that caused the red
color of some platinum salts. In 1803, William Hyde Wollaston investigated this by first dissolving
the crude platinum ore in aqua regia. Then he was able to get to the platinum metal by dissolving
the solution in ammonium chloride. The liquid which remained had properties which matched no
known substance. Wollaston named it Rhodium. This was not the last element that Wollaston
discovered that year. He used aqua regia to dissolve the platinum ore and isolated

substitution. This involves an electrophile replacing a hydrogen atom located in the aromatic
compounding forming a new carbon carbon double blond. Acylation of a monosubstituted benzene

The first step was to weigh 2.93 g of anhydrous AlCl3, which acts as the Lewis acid catalyst. 10
mL dichloromethane was used as the reaction solvent, and 1 mL anisole were stirred in a 50 mL
RBF, in an ice bath because the reaction is highly exothermic. Next, the previous measured
AlCl3 is added very slowly. Any remaining mixture is washed out with CH2Cl2. 1 mL acetic
anhydride, which is the acylating agent, is dropped slowly through the funnel because an
exothermic reaction occurs. It is then heated under reflux with a drying tube to exclude
moisture from the reaction for 30 minutes to complete the reaction. The warm mixture is now
poured over 10 g of ice in a beaker to decompose the aluminum chloride complex of the product
and transfer organic salts to the aqueous phase. The product was then allowed to sit at room
temperature for one week. The organic layer was then collected and washed with 5 mL 3 M
NaOH and 5 mL saturated aqueous NaCl in the second wash. The organic is the bottom layer both
times due to the density of the halogen present in the dichloromethane. The CH2Cl2 was then
dried using ~1 g of anhydrous MgSO4, a drying agent. I continued to add more drying agent until
there was no clumping and the solution had free floaters. The dichloromethane layer was

I was also chosen by my clinical instructor to administer medications that day. I waited for the
professor to come around and sure enough, all the medications which were to be taken by mouth,
had to be crushed and administered that way. He was receiving anticonvulsants and also
antiseizure medications. We crushed all the medications and mixed them into some of his pudding.
When I came to give him the spoon of pudding, he was asleep. I gently awoke him and told him
that I had his pudding. I tried putting the spoon in his mouth and he pushed my hand away. Then,
the aid got up and tried holding his hands and telling him that it was good for him and he would get
ice cream after this. I finally got half the spoon in his mouth and just when I thought he took the
pudding, he spit out the entire thing onto his shirt and arm and started wiping the pudding off his
mouth with his sheet. My clinical instructor told me to stop trying and that he would get the nurse
to try and finish giving him what was left.
I was having a lot of thoughts and emotions while this episode was unfolding. There was of course
the fear of the patient that everyone in the hospital was trying to hurt him, and there was also my
fear that if he would not get his anti seizure medications, he would seize in the next few hours and
that would be my fault. I also did not like the response of my clinical instructor to the whole

Clinical Decision Support Systems ( Cdss )
Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) can be described as information systems to improve
the decision making ability of people interacting with it(NiГЁs et al., 2010). Hospitals with
integrated Health Information Systems (HIS) are encouraged to utilize CDSS(Jonathan Teich,
Saldana, Levick, 2012). Multiple fragments such as Electronic Health Record(EHR), laboratory
information system, Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), radiology information system
and pharmacy information system combine together to form an integrated HIS(NiГЁs et al.,
2010). Each piece of the HIS is essential to generate proper CDSS suggestions in the form of on
screen alerts, that have been found to be most effective(Shojania et al., 2009). Diagnostic
laboratory testing has been steadily increasing over time in many medical settings all over the
world. Hence, proper laboratory testing is crucial for better patient health(van Walraven Naylor,
1998). Laboratory testing of patients can be inappropriate, and mostly it is repetitive
testing(Neilson, 2004). The integrated HIS itself can also be a factor in encouraging repetitive
examination, it can be based on different factors such as, when there is a disconnect between the
HIS workflow and the physician s workflow, test ordered in another department may not be shown
in another department, tests taken by the patient at a different location of the same hospital group,

How Individuals Communicate Communication Is The Exchange...
How individuals communicate communication is the exchange of data among people. By a life
coach understanding his/her own style of communicating, one will go far towards making great
and enduring impressions with others. Although people have been taught to talk, compose, and
read to from an early age, individuals have gotten little, if any, preparation in listening. Active
listening is a correspondence expertise that joins both verbal and non verbal skills keeping in
mind the end goal to create positive results, by encouraging comprehension, appreciation, and
compassion between individuals. Listening actively enables a life coach to ask questions
effectively, which helps the coach successfully communicate with every one of one s clients, for
they should master the viable skills of questioning. As a coach hone the skill of actively listening
and asking the right questions, they can then use those skills to motivate the client. For, life
coaches, should feel prepared to help other people are ordinarily ready to inspire and motivate. Life

Lab Report on Paper Towels
Which Paper Towel is Stronger and

Introduction
Paper towels are made from softwood trees which contain long fibers. The tree goes thru several
processes before it is actually turned into a paper towel. The paper towel is made from pulp in
which the water is removed and the fibers then bond into sheets. Also, resin is added to the process
to give the paper towel strength (Union). Several layers are then put together with adhesive and
then formed into a paper towel (Choudhury). Some paper towels are embossed to form air pockets
which help to absorb more liquid and help to add more strength (Union).

The process was then repeated for the second brand of paper towel.
The independent variable for the experiment was the paper towels. The dependent variable was the
absorbency and strength. The constants for the experiment were the size of the paper towels that
were used, the amount of water, the size of the beaker, the size of the cylinder and the amount of
the weight.
Results
The results of the experiment for the test of strength were that the Sparkle brand proved to be the
strongest. The average amount that the paper towel would hold before ripping was 583.6 g, which
was 159.2 g more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held 424.4 g before it
ripped.
The results of the experiment for the test of absorbency were that the Sparkle brand proved to be
the most absorbent. The average amount of liquid that the Sparkle brand paper towel held was
17.4 mL, which was 4.6 mL more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held
12.8 of liquid.

Disruption-Tolerant Networking Essay
Survey of Routing protocols of Delay Tolerant Networks Bansari Chauhan Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering Michigan State University East Lansing, USA chauha10@msu.edu
Abstract Delay Tolerant Networks are intermittent networks which don t have constant
connectivity between its nodes. Though it has evolved from mobile ad hoc network (MANET),
its protocols cannot be used because of intermittency. They have finite coverage of bandwidth,
nodes that are scattered widely (which can be mobile), limited energy resources, variable delay
and data rates that vary according to direction. This leads to high error rate. Such networks can be
in extreme terrestrial locations or planned networks in space. Since DTNs are prone to... Show more

Thus, conventional routing strategies cannot be used in DTNs, thus new routing protocols need
to be devised which are quite different from the conventional ones. Other features of DTNs
include lack of constant connectivity between end to end nodes. Moreover, since there are no
immediate path connections for data packets to reach their destinations, the latency for data
delivery is high, and thus, data rates are low. Other problems also include long queuing delays
and finite longevity of a single node. Transporting or transferring data from source to destination
is called as routing. Since DTNs have scarce resources, it is important to utilize these resources
wisely and new techniques need to be devised which can do that. For efficient routing in DTNs,
nodes need to keep information about link establishment in future and use buffer resources
carefully to save power. DTNs mostly use the technique of store and carry forward nodes, since
there is no way to detect which nodes can efficiently deliver the data packets. This makes the
security and reliability of data a challenging issue when dealing with DTNs, which is why DTNs
can be differentiated from its parent network, MANET. This paper aims to include, classify and
organize a range of protocols to deliver a comprehensive analysis. Variety of

new diet pill or exercise plan, Pollan gave the humble answer, eat food, not too much, and mostly
plants (Pollan xv). Pollan uses facts as well as humor to combat the foodindustry and unhealthy
eaters. Throughout this manual, he breaks down what really is food and how people can change
small everyday habits to stay healthy.
The most helpful rule Pollan provided in these guidelines is Rule 12, Shop the peripheries of the
supermarket and stay away from the middle (Pollen 27). He says this because the outer walls of
grocery stores contain fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. Consequently, the middle isles
usually contain processed foods. In a video with writer Michael Moss, Pollen calls the center

Personally, I find myself going through a drive thru at least two or three times a week.
Navigating work and school, I never tend to eat in my car on the way somewhere. This leads us
to one of my favorite and most blunt of Pollan s rules which is Rule 20: It s not food if it arrived
through the window of your car (Pollan 43). It is crazy how much the fast food industry has
changed in the past 20 years. Pollan has remarked in several forums that the food industry is
pushing us further and further away from sit down dinners by making it cheaper and more
convenient to grab something from a drive thru. This convenience factor is why Pollan has also
given us Rule 39: Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself (Pollan 85). Not
only is fast food more accessible and affordable but also cakes and other sweets. Pollan suggests
that if we make our own junk food, we will be less likely to make or eat unhealthy

Analysis Of The Certainty Of Fools By Daniel Kahneman
Fear of Uncertainty Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an
absurd one. We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that
people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why
certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of
people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their
actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their
actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of
validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying
the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty. The fear of uncertainty is deeply
engrained within our society in academia and in our decision making. Kahneman argues that
the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. However, he
neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins
his essay by describing his experience in evaluating future soldier s ability in order to predict
what kind of leader they may be. The researchers put the soldiers in a high pressure environment
and judged the soldiers on their actions in a given situation. For example, one test involved
eight men, complete strangers to one another, on an obstacle field and their goal was to haul a
log over a six foot wall. The researchers took note of who took charge, who was stubborn and how
the soldiers interacted with each other. Using those observations, the researchers made predictions
of what kind of leaders they believed each soldier would become. However, follow up sessions
with the soldiers showed that the soldiers may have been overshadowed by another soldier, just
having a bad day or were more outgoing than normal during the challenge. So, the follow up
sessions statistically proved that Kahneman s predictions were not accurate enough to be helpful.
As Kahneman put it, Our forecasts were better than blind guesses, but not by much. So, the research
and observations, while they seemed to

I noticed it was getting harder to finish assembling my gun; I was losing the outside light. The
sun was already setting, even though it was just after three. I remembered when I had gone to
Middle School, during winter, of having to walk through Arkham s icy atmosphere instead
relaxing in the warm luxury of riding in the car, which we d sold to defray, in part, another of the
old man s expeditions, this time to Nepal in search of the legendary Plateau of Leng. Such
dangerous destinations meant nothing to me at the tender age of thirteen, of course, except in that I
could no longer bask in the warmth of the Nexus s heater. The Eastern horizon would be barely
beginning to lighten by the time I reached the gate. I got home just after ... Show more content on

There was more than a touch of unpleasantness contained within that safe. Across the room,
however, was my real arsenal: a two tiered bookcase made of pressed particleboard that I d
picked up at a garage sale for five dollars. Crammed in it and disguised by a simple holographic
misrepresentation which caused the volumes on the shelves to appear as a complete run of the
Ace Science Fiction Specials from the 1960s, was in fact such a collection of ancient tomes of
mind blasting lore as to give the cognoscenti of such things many sleepless nights: The Book of
Eibon, Cultes des Goules, De Vermis Mysteriis, The Eltdown Shards, The People of the Monolith,
The Pnakotic Manuscripts, the Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan, Unaussprechlichen Kulten, and the
dreaded Al azif itself, know also as the Necronomicon. Should the Four Horsemen of the
Apocalypse show up, even wearing Armani and Kevlar while driving SUVs and brandishing
Russian assault rifles, I was ready for them. While finishing the assemblage of the gun, I glanced
up long enough to make sure that whoever had entered a little less than four minutes ago wasn t,
say, a Mi Go intent on booking me for a missing persons case with me as the star. I d registered
earlier the sound of my client or so I hoped standing and moving desultorily about the outer office.
There being no indication of impatience in the light steps, I merely raised my gaze, intending
nothing more than a cursory glance and a word or two of reassurance before completing my work.
Instead I stared, motionless, like a hare transfixed by the glittering gaze of a

The War On Terror And Terrorism
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Bush administration declared a worldwide
war on terror, consisting of open and covert military operations and security legislations in an
effort to block the financing of terrorism. The U.S. called for states across world to join their fight
against terrorism (Globalpolicy.org, 2015). This essay will be arguing if the U.S. was justified in
their advances or if they have used the attacks against them in order to launch a war against those it
suspected, using the attacks as a justification for torture and mistreatment of people across the
world.
In a post 9 11 society, the question of security has become the first priority of governments and
terrified Westerners, in particular, Americans as they struggle to reconcile with the possibility of
conflicting ideals and lifestyles. The War on Terror has never truly been about the war against
militants, but has rather been, similar to the Cold War in much more gruesome and misguided a
way in which the Western countries, hereafter symbolized by the United States predominantly have
found a new way to flex political muscle while oppressing other people across the globe through
torture and destruction. The War on Terror is a poorly justified attack on human rights, a poor excuse
for retaliation and progress, and is ultimately another way for the political culture of the West to
permeate into other countries with their own lifestyles, international policies and simply be the one

A Maximum Wage Research Paper
People have different views about whether governments should introduce a maximum wage.
While in some ways it may seem reasonable to allow people to earn as much as companies are
willing to pay, I personally believe that employee remuneration should be capped at a certain
level. There are various reasons why it might be considered beneficial to allow people to be paid
extremely high salaries. If companies offer excellent pay packages, they can attract the most
talented people in their fields to work for them. For example, technology companies like Google
are able to employ the best programmers because of the huge sums that they are willing to pay.
Furthermore, these well paid employees are likely to be highly motivated to work hard and therefore

Essay on The Debate Over Campaign Finance Regulations
Money is both the nectar and poison of the human race. This fact has never been more applicable
than to modern politics. Nearly all assets to a candidate for political office, such a media
advertisements, travel expenses and campaign supplies rely on fiscal support. In an age when
electronic media rules supreme, money has never been more important. Today, it has become
necessary for political campaigns to pour massive amounts of funding into television, Internet, radio
and print ads in order to run a competitive campaign. These ads are the most prominent form of
communication between a candidate and the sovereigns, and therefore, a candidate s ability to use
ads can not be inhibited. This correlation between money and politics has many... Show more

The deposit had to be completed before midnight, as the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA)
went into affect at midnight of April 7th (Smith 2). The FECA required political campaigns to
report the source and amount of each donation. Following the Watergate incident, a movement in
Congress called for campaign finance reform in an effort to subdue political corruption. This
movement was inspired in part by the role of the Committee to Re Elect the President, and in
1974 was amended with the passage of the Bi Partisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) to form the
Federal Election Commission (Smith 1,3). The FEC was tasked with overseeing campaign
fundraising and enforcing the FECA, which was the first step toward full transparency and
equality of political campaigns (FEC 1). Not only did the BCRA set limits on donations to political
campaigns and organizations, but also required campaigns to report the source of major donations,
as well as restricting the use of soft money (IGM 2, 107th Congress 47). These regulations are the
most prominent form of protection held by the general populous from corporate domination of the
electorate. When the United States Constitution was introduced in 1787, the concepts presented
were not entirely new thoughts. It was the Roman Republic, which first introduced a representative
government to the world. However, the Republic of Rome was plagued by a

Characteristics of Successful Online Students Essays Identifying Characteristics of Successful Online Students James Holcombe Liberty University 201520 Spring 2015 INFT 101 B69 LUO Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Taken directly from God s Word, I was reminded by my Professor this week of one of my favorite verses from the book of Isaiah. Interestingly enough, before I began my venture into higher education, I was scared: scared of failure, scared of the commitment it would require, and even scared of the possibility that I just might not be cut out for the task ahead. What does this have to do with my online education? Well, everything, to be honest. All of the time I normally had set aside for my coursework must now be devoted to the daily management of our home (things that my wife usually takes care of). It s astonishing how quickly time gets away from us! I ve learned through this series of unfortunate events that I must take control of my time, rather than allowing it to take control of me. Though there are many advantages about background modeling, there still exists many disadvantages in background modeling method. At first, it must suit the change of environment. Many factors can result in the change of environment, such that illumination. If the illumination changes, the color of the images will change. For example, in the condition of sufficient light, the color of the grass will change from dark green to light green. This change will make the background modeling fails. The second disadvantage of background modeling is that if the camera shakes, this will make the image shake. The above holds true particularly when mouse model is used to evaluate the functional outcome of NKT cells, wherein the role of CD1d2 in antigen presentation and NKT TCR recognition remain obscure. This is has been overcome with the crystal structure of the CD1d2, which has now provided a valuable insight into the antigen presentation mechanism mediated by CD1d2. The crystal structure has identified a smaller A antigen binding pocket in CD1d2, which in turn indicated the possible requirement of shorter acyl chain length lipid for its antigen presentation. Given that most of the antigens that were studied in the context of NKT cell mediated immunity required longer A pocket compared to the relative size in CD1d2, the study indicates that CD1d2 might present a different set of lipid antigens for NKT TCR recognition. Further, owing to their monomorphic nature, the finding can be used as a potential lead to evaluate how the difference in antigen presentation can impact the reactivity of NKT cells and subsequently the outcome of the NKT cell mediated immune response. In addition, the crystal structure could be used as a platform for the development of novel immunotherapeutics with the special focus on CD1d2 restricted NKT cells. He represents a long carefree era when everything in the world has gone well for the most prosperous nation on earth. It is significant that a creature often viewed in other countries as a pest to be eradicated can rise in the United States of America to become a movie star and a household name. This symbolises the American dream where everyone (including apparently rodents and quite possibly many other non human personalities) can expect freedom of speech, freedom of actions and freedom to make an honest living. This is going to be a little description of what went on during this trip and all the different things I saw. Most of this will be about my trip to the Wildlife world zoo since that was the biggest thing that happened during the trip. The first thing I should mention, Since of course it was the first thing we saw, Is the amazing scenery on the way up here. We passed through parts of Oklahoma, Texas, And New Mexico that I ve never seen before Although going to all three places previously! The Axolotl is classed as critically endangered due to the fact that they were sold in Mexico as food and the polluted water. The Axolotl is a really special animal and very different from others due to the fact that it can regenerate its own limbs and their rarity. Another really strange animal is the Blind Cavefish, A fish that is born with eyes but as they age skin grows over their eyes, Making them blind. They are warm water fish that like the deep and dark caves of Central America. Although they can t see, They can sense light and swim away from it, Naturally preferring the dark. I think this fish really suites its name and they are very interesting to watch. Poisonous Dart frog: Tiny bright coloured frogs that seemed very active. These frogs like moist, humid places, Including the tropical parts of Central and South America. This number is only increasing as the years go by. Around 74% of individuals 65 and up are using the Internet regularly. This is a drastic change from 10 years ago, as it has increased by 54% (Thomson, 2017). How have we come so far, but to feel like we aren t going anywhere? Things need to be done if we want to see any change for the future. There is a significant correlation between technology and communication. By addressing the negative effects that technology has on face to face communication, how technology has changed the way we communicate with others, and why we expect more from technology rather than with another human being, we can better understand the many factors that we must acknowledge in order for us to move forward. Technology is a great distraction everywhere; whether it is at home, in the office, or when travelling. Hundreds of thousands of people suffer injuries from accidents caused by distracted driving involving technology. People become so distracted at work that they forget about more pressing matters (Kazmeyer, n.d.). Technology has become an important part of the way we communicate. It has gone so far as to take the place of face to face communication (Drago, 2015). By addressing the negative effects that technology has on face to face communication, it is the first step in admitting that there is something wrong with the world that ... However, not very many people know or have even heard about longboarding. Because of this, most people just assume that skateboarding and longboarding are similar in sport and that the same stereotypes of skateboarders can be given to longboarders. That is not the case at all. Even though they may seem similar longboarding has its own unique attributes that set it apart from skateboarding. Skateboarding and longboarding were both invented in 1959 as a way to surf in the absence of rideable waves. They first called it, sidewalk surfing . • 27. Theme Of Corruption In The Miller Consistently dishonest to his customers, The Miller is a great example of this kind of corruption. The main job of The Miller is to sell grain to families, thus providing them with food. The moral expectation of this job seems high, as families who must pay for grain are of a lower class. As a result, The Miller is most likely seen as a savior to many people of the lower class. Chaucer, at first, supports this saying, His mighty mouth was like a furnace door. / A wrangler and buffoon, he had a store / Of tavern stories, filthy in the main (Chaucer 575 577). In other words, The Miller seems to be an overall well rounded, humorous guy. So much so, that no one has any reason to think that he might be cheating them out of their money. Yet, in the very next line, Chaucer describes him in a much different way: His was a master hand at stealing grain. / He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew / Its quality and took three times his due ( The Miller 578 580). Obviously, The Miller is receiving more money than he actually deserves because he places his thumb on the scale, making the grain weigh more. Although no one is aware, The Miller constantly takes advantage of his clients by making them pay more than their fair share. Although he does not appear corrupt to most, The Miller is dishonest and cheats many people who are involved in his trade. Chaucer also stretches this theme seen in The Miller into The Doctor s prologue. In general, Doctor s are viewed a good, moral, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Importance Of Police Integrity In The Police The world is full of crime and hate. When you think of criminal, an image pops in your head of someone wearing bland clothing with a mask or a thug with gang tattoos. Some criminals are harder to spot, like those who commit white collar crime. What happens when the police officers who are supposed to enforce the law, are the actual criminals? During the 1990 s in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department(LAPD) was full of policewho were criminals. The Rampart incident is a textbook example of how criminal activity can be found even in the law enforcement branch of our society. To get a better understanding what police corruption is, one must understand the importance of the police having integrity. Integrity means that a person is honest and has strong moral and will do the right thing. For the police department in a community to have integrity, it means that there is little or no misconduct by police officers and the office follow the Police Code of Ethics. The level of integrity within each police department depends on how the department is managed, which then dictates how officers act toward the community, and how the officers acts determines how the public views the integrity of the police. (Police Integrity) When police departments do not have integrity it is called police corruption. For corruption, three distinct elements must be present, 1) miss use of authority, 2) miss use of official capacity, and 3) miss use of personal attainment (Dantzker, 1995). ... Gold (Au), silver(Ag), platinum(Pt), ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium(Pd), iridium (Ir), and osmium (Os) all have similar properties and are considered to be precious metals.1 Many of these elements were found in platinum ores. Hippolyte Victor Collet Descotils believed that there was an unidentified metals that caused the red color of some platinum salts. In 1803, William Hyde Wollaston investigated this by first dissolving the crude platinum ore in aqua regia. Then he was able to get to the platinum metal by dissolving the solution in ammonium chloride. The liquid which remained had properties which matched no known substance. Wollaston named it Rhodium. Dichloromethane Lab Report In this experiment, a Friedel Crafts acylation was carried our by reacting acetic anhydride (the acylating agent) and dichloromethane (solvent) with anisole to substitute an acyl group onto the aromatic ring of anisole. Friedel Crafts reaction can be classified as an electrophilic aromatic substitution. This involves an electrophile replacing a hydrogen atom located in the aromatic compounding forming a new carbon carbon double blond. Acylation of a monosubstituted benzene has the opportunity to yield any or all three different disubstituted products. The first step was to weigh 2.93 g of anhydrous AlCl3, which acts as the Lewis acid catalyst. 10 mL dichloromethane was used as the reaction solvent, and 1 mL anisole were stirred in a 50 mL RBF, in an ice bath because the reaction is highly exothermic. Next, the previous measured AlCl3 is added very slowly. Any remaining mixture is washed out with CH2Cl2. 1 mL acetic anhydride, which is the acylating agent, is dropped slowly through the funnel because an exothermic reaction occurs. It is then heated under reflux with a drying tube to exclude moisture from the reaction for 30 minutes to complete the reaction. The warm mixture is now poured over 10 g of ice in a beaker to decompose the aluminum chloride complex of the product and transfer organic salts to the aqueous phase. The product was then allowed to sit at room temperature for one week. The organic layer was then collected and washed with 5 mL 3 M NaOH and 5 mL saturated aqueous NaCl in the second wash. The organic is the bottom layer both times due to the density of the halogen present in the dichloromethane. The CH2Cl2 was then dried using ~1 g of anhydrous MgSO4, a drying agent. Disruption-Tolerant Networking Essay Survey of Routing protocols of Delay Tolerant Networks Bansari Chauhan Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Michigan State University East Lansing, USA chauha10@msu.edu Abstract Delay Tolerant Networks are intermittent networks which don t have constant connectivity between its nodes. Though it has evolved from mobile ad hoc network (MANET), its protocols cannot be used because of intermittency. They have finite coverage of bandwidth, nodes that are scattered widely (which can be mobile), limited energy resources, variable delay and data rates that vary according to direction. This leads to high error rate. Such networks can be in extreme terrestrial locations or planned networks in space. Since DTNs are prone to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, conventional routing strategies cannot be used in DTNs, thus new routing protocols need to be devised which are quite different from the conventional ones. Other features of DTNs include lack of constant connectivity between end to end nodes. Moreover, since there are no immediate path connections for data packets to reach their destinations, the latency for data delivery is high, and thus, data rates are low. Other problems also include long queuing delays and finite longevity of a single node. Transporting or transferring data from source to destination is called as routing. Since DTNs have scarce resources, it is important to utilize these resources wisely and new techniques need to be devised which can do that. For efficient routing in DTNs, nodes need to keep information about link establishment in future and use buffer resources carefully to save power. DTNs mostly use the technique of store and carry forward nodes, since there is no way to detect which nodes can efficiently deliver the data packets. This makes the security and reliability of data a challenging issue when dealing with DTNs, which is why DTNs can be differentiated from its parent network, MANET. This paper aims to include, classify and organize a range of protocols to deliver a comprehensive analysis. Variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty. The fear of uncertainty is deeply engrained within our society in academia and in our decision making. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. However, he neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his essay by describing his experience in evaluating future soldier s ability in order to predict what kind of leader they may be. The researchers put the soldiers in a high pressure environment and judged the soldiers on their actions in a given situation. For example, one test involved eight men, complete strangers to one another, on an obstacle field and their goal was to haul a log over a six foot wall. The researchers took note of who took charge, who was stubborn and how the soldiers interacted with each other. Using those observations, the researchers made predictions of what kind of leaders they believed each soldier would become. However, follow up sessions with the soldiers showed that the soldiers may have been overshadowed by another soldier, just having a bad day or were more outgoing than normal during the challenge. So, the follow up sessions statistically proved that Kahneman s predictions were not accurate enough to be helpful. As Kahneman put it, Our forecasts were better than blind guesses, but not by much. Such dangerous destinations meant nothing to me at the tender age of thirteen, of course, except in that I could no longer bask in the warmth of the Nexus s heater. The Eastern horizon would be barely beginning to lighten by the time I reached the gate. I got home just after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was more than a touch of unpleasantness contained within that safe. Across the room, however, was my real arsenal: a two tiered bookcase made of pressed particleboard that I d picked up at a garage sale for five dollars. Crammed in it and disguised by a simple holographic misrepresentation which caused the volumes on the shelves to appear as a complete run of the Ace Science Fiction Specials from the 1960s, was in fact such a collection of ancient tomes of mind blasting lore as to give the cognoscenti of such things many sleepless nights: The Book of Eibon, Cultes des Goules, De Vermis Mysteriis, The Eltdown Shards, The People of the Monolith, The Pnakotic Manuscripts, the Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan, Unaussprechlichen Kulten, and the dreaded Al azif itself, know also as the Necronomicon. Should the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse show up, even wearing Armani and Kevlar while driving SUVs and brandishing Russian assault rifles, I was ready for them. While finishing the assemblage of the gun, I glanced up long enough to make sure that whoever had entered a little less than four minutes ago wasn t, say, a Mi Go intent on booking me for a missing persons case with me as the star. I d registered earlier the sound of my client or so I hoped standing and moving desultorily about the outer office. There being no indication of impatience in the light steps, I merely raised my gaze, intending nothing more than a cursory glance and a word or two of reassurance before completing my work. Instead I stared, motionless, like a hare transfixed by the glittering gaze of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The War On Terror And Terrorism After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Bush administration declared a worldwide war on terror, consisting of open and covert military operations and security legislations in an effort to block the financing of terrorism. The U.S. called for states across world to join their fight against terrorism (Globalpolicy.org, 2015). This essay will be arguing if the U.S. was justified in their advances or if they have used the attacks against them in order to launch a war against those it suspected, using the attacks as a justification for torture and mistreatment of people across the world. In a post 9 11 society, the question of security has become the first priority of governments and terrified Westerners, in particular, Americans as they struggle to reconcile with the possibility of conflicting ideals and lifestyles. The War on Terror has never truly been about the war against militants, but has rather been, similar to the Cold War in much more gruesome and misguided a way in which the Western countries, hereafter symbolized by the United States predominantly have found a new way to flex political muscle while oppressing other people across the globe through torture and destruction. The War on Terror is a poorly justified attack on human rights, a poor excuse for retaliation and progress, and is ultimately another way for the political culture of the West to permeate into other countries with their own lifestyles, international policies and simply be the one ... • 43. A Maximum Wage Research Paper People have different views about whether governments should introduce a maximum wage. While in some ways it may seem reasonable to allow people to earn as much as companies are willing to pay, I personally believe that employee remuneration should be capped at a certain level. There are various reasons why it might be considered beneficial to allow people to be paid extremely high salaries. If companies offer excellent pay packages, they can attract the most talented people in their fields to work for them. For example, technology companies like Google are able to employ the best programmers because of the huge sums that they are willing to pay. Furthermore, these well paid employees are likely to be highly motivated to work hard and therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay on The Debate Over Campaign Finance Regulations Money is both the nectar and poison of the human race. This fact has never been more applicable than to modern politics. Nearly all assets to a candidate for political office, such a media advertisements, travel expenses and campaign supplies rely on fiscal support. In an age when electronic media rules supreme, money has never been more important. Today, it has become necessary for political campaigns to pour massive amounts of funding into television, Internet, radio and print ads in order to run a competitive campaign. These ads are the most prominent form of communication between a candidate and the sovereigns, and therefore, a candidate s ability to use ads can not be inhibited. This correlation between money and politics has many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The deposit had to be completed before midnight, as the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) went into affect at midnight of April 7th (Smith 2). The FECA required political campaigns to report the source and amount of each donation. Following the Watergate incident, a movement in Congress called for campaign finance reform in an effort to subdue political corruption. This movement was inspired in part by the role of the Committee to Re Elect the President, and in 1974 was amended with the passage of the Bi Partisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) to form the Federal Election Commission (Smith 1,3). The FEC was tasked with overseeing campaign fundraising and enforcing the FECA, which was the first step toward full transparency and equality of political campaigns (FEC 1). Not only did the BCRA set limits on donations to political campaigns and organizations, but also required campaigns to report the source of major donations, as well as restricting the use of soft money (IGM 2, 107th Congress 47). These regulations are the most prominent form of protection held by the general populous from corporate domination of the electorate. When the United States Constitution was introduced in 1787, the concepts presented were not entirely new thoughts. It was the Roman Republic, which first introduced a representative government to the world. However, the Republic of Rome was plagued by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
