Nervous Conditions Paper
Pass the Brainwash Please, On Second Thought
Quietly, unobtrusively and extremely fitfully, something in my mind began to assert itself, to question
things, and to refuse to be brainwashed The main character, Tambudzai, in the novel Nervous
Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga, is determined to get a white education without losing her native
tongue and ways. However this proves to be more difficult that she would expect and seeds that are
planted in her mind by the whites begin to take shape, and greatly affect her existence. I will begin by
giving an overview of the story leading up to the point where Tambu heads off to begin her education
at the missionary school. Next I show how Tambu has already been brainwashed into believing ...

What she does not see directly is the effect that a white, English education will have on her. She has
been brainwashed because she believes that a white English education is better than the education she
would received within her hometown culture. Tambu has to battle several influences in order to refuse
to be brainwashed. First and foremost she had to overcome her own thought process that a white
education was better than the education she received at home because it was white. Originally Tambu
s pursuit of this white, English based education causes her to be cut off from her parents who maintain
the traditional cultures and values. The very education that allows her to survive in this magical new
world of education which was created by colonialism is the same thing that cuts her off from her
heritage. Second she must overcome the influence that her uncle s ideas have over her. Tambu must
realize that her uncle s ideas are often white and were assimilated into him while he was attaining his
white education. For example her uncle Babamukuru comes up with the idea that Tambu s parents
must get married, which is a white tradition, to clear their family of the sins that are causing the
families hardships. The idea that sex outside of marriage is a sin was brought about by the whites. The

Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources
Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be a
change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. For centuries, libraries have
remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the greatest
collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses. (Palfrey,
2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to rebrand
themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real time, and
the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with other
agencies devoted to education and information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests that,
Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively with
partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations.
(2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and most credible
information. #Learning Commons The year of the Learning Commons is ablaze on social media.
Teacher librarians are embracing technology as a way to reach new audiences and share resources.
The social media of choice for these tech savvy teachers is Twitter, and their hashtag is YearLC.
(Loertscher, D., Koechlin, C., 2015) Twitter is being used as a marketing tool to rebrand

Sanity And Insanity In Shakespeare s King Lear
Determining the sanity and insanity of an individual can be extremely hard, especially when you do
not know much about the person. In Shakespeare s King Lear there are many character who seem like
they are going mad, and an example of such a character is King Lear. King Lear succumbs to anger,
rash decisions, and grief driving him to insanity, thus leading to the destruction of the kingdom. King
Lear is a character who displays a great deal of anger throughout the course of the play, he often
allows his anger to take over him. A lot of things that are said and during the course of the play are due
to Lear s anger which is a leading factor for his insanity. Lear loses his temper during a love test when
his daughter does not give the answer that he was looking for, he disowns her calling Cordelia his,
sometime daughter, (1.1.119) and gives her share of the land to her sisters. This in turn leads to his
insanity because in his blind rage he does not acknowledge the sincerity behind Cordelia s veiled
words; unlike her sisters she does not try to flatter her father in order to receive more land, whereas
her sisters have their secrets agendas and do not truly love Lear. In addition to this, King Lear is also
enraged when the Earl of Kent who is a loyal follower of Lear, goes against the banishment of
Cordelia and speaks up in favour of the youngest daughter. Lear is livid with Kent going against him
and banishes Kent, as well reminding him that, if on the tenth day

Essay On Breast Segmentation Recovery
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Patients in Breast augmentation recovery are usually asked to limit physical exertion for 3 to 7 days
before gradually getting back to more rigorous activities. The amount of rest needed and the amount
of time required for a total recovery where you are able to get back to regular activities will be based
on the locations of the incisions, the implant size as well as if the breast implant is located over or
under the pectoral muscle.
The most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the world is breast augmentation and new
technological procedures are being introduced that will let women who have the surgery done to
recover quicker so they can get back to their daily activities as fast as possible. When considering
surgery, the results are a major consideration in the final decision to have the surgery done. Although
recovery is fairly brief, it is a very important step for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You are probably thinking about which surgeon you should go with and how you will actually pay for
the surgery. Two major considerations are how to avoid physical strain after surgery and how much
time you ll need to spend away from work and other obligations. Will you be able to set up an
environment that is calm and relaxing that will speed up healing? Patients should also keep in mind
that they will not need to spend their recuperation time in bed for a full week. Instead, you only have
to minimize your physical activities and follow your doctor s instructions to properly heal.
If you are seriously thinking about getting breast enhancements, really take all aspects of the surgery
into account as well as how you will recover. Once you know what to expect and you are prepared to
closely follow your surgeon s suggestions, you will have a higher probability of having a successful
recovery which will enhance your appearance and boost your confidence for years to come.

Viewers Perceptions of On-Air Cursing Essay
This study used a 2 x 2 x 2 design to examine the effects of warning labels, bleeping, and gender on
viewers perceptions and enjoyment of a docu drama. We also examined the individual difference
variable of verbal aggressiveness to test for possible interactions. Overall, the warning labels increased
enjoyment of the program containing profanity among college students. Bleeping had no effect on
either program liking or perceptions of realism; however, bleeping decreased perceptions of the
program s offensiveness, and increased viewers perceptions of profanity frequently estimates. Lastly,
verbally aggressive participants perceived the program as more realistic, and the language as less

Another airing of the same program self censored (or quot;bleeped quot;) the profanity. Therefore,
although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered
norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive
norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels
and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the
current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring
on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings
and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will
consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations.
The Effects of Program Ratings and Warning Labels
Although few studies on program warnings had been conducted prior to the 1990s (see, however,
Austin, 1980; Herman amp; Leyens, 1977; Wurtzel amp; Surlin, 1978), the current use of program
warnings and ratings by the networks, combined with the increase in parental concern about
problematic media content (Cantor, Stutman amp; Duran, 1996), has created an environment in which
research into this issue has become more prevalent. A majority of these studies is grounded in
reactance theory (Brehm, 1981). Reactance

The Importance Of Innocence And Experience By William Blake
Innocence and Experience: How William Blake Challenged Society
(More background on Blake here and how he came up with innocence/experience)
(https://www.mtholyoke.edu/courses/rschwart/hist255/jkr/romanticism.html) Romanticism was a
literary movement that swept through virtually every country of Europe, the United States, and Latin
America that lasted from about 1750 to 1870. This period included philosophy, art, music, literature.
(https://www.bl.uk/romantics and victorians/articles/the romantics) Romantics believed that men and
women should not be guided by rules placed on them by society but led by warm emotions that
promoted a sense of freedom. William Blake was one of the poets that began the Romantic Age who
promoted self expression but was weighed down by the importance and standards of religion. Literary
work during Romanticism had a strong emphasis in implementing nature, emotion over logic,
imagination over reason, and no division between art and literature. These works placed focus on
human personality affected by political and social causes. These became dominant themes in romantic
poetry which made literature much more complex. In the late eighteenth and nineteenth century, child
labor in England was prominent after the Great Fire of London in 1666. After this massive fire in
London, chimneys had to be built slimmer due to new regulations to keep the city safer. Chimney
sweeping was done by poor boys at ages as young as four after they were sold.

“The Home Of The Chinese Race Is In Asia, And A Great Future
The home of the Chinese race is in Asia, and a great future awaits the Anglo Saxon branch of

the Canadian Royal Commission on Chinese immigration in 1884, Brooks advocated for cooperation
between the united states and Canada in preventing Chinese immigration to not only America, but all
North America. His rhetoric reflects the deeply institutionalized anti Chinese racism in the United

Foreign military and economic intervention by European imperial powers created greater instability in
China. Western powers, through an unequal treaty system, engaged in legal imperialism that gave
them protection through special rights and privileges that gradually reduced Chinese tradesmen to a
subordinate role. Opium trade, fueled by Britain, drained China of silver, and drove up the price of
silver. Silver was the standard payment for taxes, but rising prices made tax payments an economic
burden for peasants. The First Opium War, 1839 to 1842, resulted in the defeat of the Chinese and the
signing of the Treaty of Nanjing. The treaty forced ceded Hong Kong to the British and open treaty
ports to the British along the southern coast providing Britain with greater access to foreign trade. The
emerge of western competition in China threaten the livelihood of people throughout the country and
weakened China s economic power in the region overall. New trade routes, commodities, and the
introduction of western business practices affected many people in various parts of the country.
China, during the mid nineteenth century, also experienced its own internal political instability. The
Taiping Rebellion ravaged the southern provinces from 1851 to 1864. Originating in Guangxi
provinces and spreading throughout southern China, the Taiping Rebellion resulted in an estimated 20

Essay about Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln Hero or Racist?
Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States.
Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he
was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding
Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and
racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that
helped shape our nation. Abraham Lincoln is such an interesting person that discussions and debates
will lead to more questions open to more discussion and debate. What was Lincoln s view on ... Show

He still did not think blacks should have the right to vote, hold political offices, or marry white people.
He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living
together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did
feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D
Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not,
however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of
slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and
careless of the consequences (3).
What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley,
when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him
into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro
in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly
compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the
subject of slavery in the South. D Souza also asserts that Lincoln stated in correspondence to Andrew
Stephens, the former vice president of the Confederacy, that while we think it is wrong, and ought to
be restricted, it was not his intention to get

Abstract
America has expanded so much over the last decades. People are living longer due to advancements in
technology. However, the down side to this circumstance is over populated areas in the U.S. The
impact is tremendously felt in the health care settings of hospitals. Hospitals are having a difficult time
accommodating patients. Hospital department leaders, are responsible for management performance in
their hospital, there are several reasons why emergency department crowding should be at the head of
the hospital improvement efforts. The purpose of this paper is to address those issue.

In order to fix the situation if a bed is not available patients could be treated in the hall depending on
the problem at hand. Unfortunately, the down side is for women requiring an examination she will
have to wait until a room is available. Likewise, some hospitals are handling patients more speedily by
using a team method approach. Resulting, in a patient being seen by a doctor, nurse and registration
nurse immediately. Due to the fact that, he or she can order needed tests and procedures as well as
quickly treat patients if necessary (Marte, 2013). Majority of the hospitals today are advertising their
wait times on a website. Hoping to allure people to their facility and not their competitors. In doing so
by lowering the emergency room wait times. All in the effect of a pay for performance system
established by the Affordable Care Act. Medicare disbursements to hospitals are somewhat based on
patient fulfillment ( E R Wait Time, n.d. ).
Another area that needs correction is the way information is shared between healthcare professionals.
Years ago a patient s files were paper notes that were actually stored on the premises of a physician. In
the recent year s patient s information from hospitals, doctors offices, and medical centers store health
information electronically ( Kids Health from Nemours,

The Significance Of The Final Solution To The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a systematic, bureaucratic and state sponsored decision made by the Nazi German
Government and their collaborators between years 1936 to 1945 to eliminate all Jews from European
society. This decision was known as the final solution to the Jewish question (Todd Allan 2001).
Although German authorities main target was the Jews they also targeted specific groups who were
perceived as racially inferior including; Roma (Gypsies), some Slavic people (poles, Russians and
others), communist, socialist, Jehovah s witnesses, the disabled, the mentally ill, homosexuals and
other people deemed inferior (Introduction to the Holocaust 2016). Jews were the main victims of the

The Threat Of The Taliban Essay
Prior to its fall, the Taliban was the essential state supporter of Al Qaeda and gave a place of refuge
that permitted training camps to be set up in Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban, Al Qaeda has
extended out to other terrorist amasses in Egypt, Algeria, Pakistan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Somalia.
In Canada, terrorism exuding from Al Qaeda propelled radicalism remains a genuine risk. In spite of
late fruitful operations focusing on Al Qaeda Core, the Service keeps on seeing backing for AQ causes
in Canada. Of specific importance is the aforementioned examination concerning an asserted Al
Qaeda connected plot to assault a train in Southern Ontario, which prompted the capture of two people
in April 2013.Over the recent years Canada has seen an extensive development in both domestic and
global terrorist threat and additionally various significant. There were prominent episodes of
Canadians flying out abroad to take part in terrorist exercises, and the remarkable captures for an
asserted terrorist plot to be completed on Canadian soil. In the United States, fear assaults at the April
2013 Boston Marathon showed the continuous danger to the West from homegrown brutal extremism.
Globally, developments such as, the passing of Osama bin Laden in May 2011, Anwar Awlaki in
September 2011, and other key pioneers dealt major blows to the Al Qaeda (AQ) administration. In
spite of these occurrences, the danger from universal terrorism remains intact. Terrorist developments

Enron s annual stockholder meeting in January 2001 was a study in corporate egotism. Executives met
at a San Antonio, Texas hill country resort, and champagne and cigars were free for the taking. At this
meeting, Lay boldly asserted that he expected Enron to become the world s greatest company. On
February 5, special bonus checks worth tens of millions of dollars were prepared for Enron executives.
However, in what might have been the first outward sign of the trouble to come, Lay resigned as CEO
in February 2001, keeping his position as chairman of the board, while Skilling was tapped to be his
replacement. On the surface, Enron had the appearance of assured success, but underneath, a tangled
web of deceit was slowly emerging. Fortune writer Bethany McLean, who has covered Enron
extensively, prepared an article titled Is Enron Overpriced? in March 2001, when the stock was valued
at $80 per share, near its $90 per share high. The article, in part, noted, The company remains largely
impenetrable to outsiders, as even some of its admirers are quick to admit. Start with a pretty
straightforward question: How exactly does Enron make its money? Details are hard to come by
because Enron keeps many of the specifics confidential for what it terms competitive reasons. The
numbers that Enron does present are often extremely complicated. Even quantitatively minded Wall

A Research Project On Project Management Essay
Introduction
Working in the industry I do I have found myself in the position of either initiating or participating the
process improvement projects. I feel that project management is a very broad term for any type of
project that a company, or individual, uses to implement a change or improvement to a product or
service. With this definition, I concluded that one of biggest projects I ever managed was when I was
approached and began participating in a Greenbelt (PMP) project for a process that I utilize daily
basis. The intention of this project was to eliminate email correspondence and create a more
streamlined form of communication from engineering to manufacturing in regards to change orders.
As the bill of materials specialist for the configuration management team and having 8+ years

Mission Statement
To begin a project a mission statement must be identified. A mission statement states the purpose of a
project its general direction and aims. (Leading Project Teams). A mission statement should be clear
and concise in nature and should establish the intention of the projects outcome. In this project the
mission statement, as mentioned above, was to ultimately to eliminate or reduce email correspondence
between departments. The mission statement indicated the project team responsible for completing

them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I want to make this particularly
clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor to any of my campaigns, has ever received any
consideration that he would not have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in
anything fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers.
Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for accepting, he is an honest,

fell in love with it, and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s
speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty. He gives multiple
examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500 dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington,
D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan,
which I pay regularly, because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were
working so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I have on
my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his audience. He also says, But Pat

she d look good in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running

I Believe In Making Bed Research
I Believe in Making My Bed Every Morning I believe in making my bed every single morning. There
is nothing like pulling my heavy, warm comforter neatly over my wrinkled sheets. Making my bed
starts my day, leaving a renewed and wholesome feeling when I haphazardly sprint out the door in the
morning to catch my bus. I can t seem to get anything done unless I make my bed. This odd ritual
came about when I was spending the summer at my grandparents. Our house had just flooded, and we
were left in distress until we received a text from my grandma offering us a place in their home.
Needless to say, we abused that offer.. We remained in her home for three months and everyday she
would pester me about the unmade bed that I left without a thought ... Show more content on

In making my bed, it meant that no matter what accomplishment, big or small, was worth being proud
of. What better way to proudly display an accomplishment than a bed. Afterall a bed is the center of
attention in a room. It is the epitome of perfection in a room, the cherry on top if you will. After all it
is called the BEDroom, the only room in the house that requires a bed. The first thing someone notices
when they walk into a bedroom room is the bed, its size, color, placement. The way someone makes
their bed says a lot about their personality. Tucked corners, or folded comforter, to fluffed pillows and
satin sheets. The way someone makes their bed gives them control of something in their life. Had a
bad day at work? No worries, you made your bed. Fail a test? Well atleast you accomplished one
thing. Making your bed means your day, no matter how bad, weird, or depressing, was not a complete
failure. I remember one day I was having an awful day. I was late, failed a test, got in trouble, and was
grounded. My mom, after yelling at me through clenched teeth and giving me an excruciatingly long
lecture, asked me what she was going to do with me. I couldn t help but smile and respond

The Heart Of The Lungs
The Lungs are a part of every living human and animal that exist today. The lungs are classified as one
of the hardest working organs in the body, besides the heart. They can expand and contract up to 20
times a minute or more to provide oxygen to be distributed to tissues in all parts of the body. They are
considered to be the largest organ in the body. Taking up over forty percent of the chest cavity. Due to
the size, we can only have two. The heart takes up the other space in the upper cavity. Each lung is
made up of a sponge like material of tissue. They have been divided up into sections called lobes. The
right lung has three lobes and the left lung only has two. These are called the superior, middle, and
inferior. The average size of the lungs is 11 in. in length. Most normal adult human s lungs are about
the same size. The normal lungs have an average weight of 234 grams or so. The weight depends a lot
on the health of the lung. The average pair of human lungs can hold about 5 liters of air.
Approximately, a healthy human can breathe up to 24480 times in a day. The lungs are red color
because it is smooth muscles. It is made of all muscle tissue. The job of my organ is to take oxygen
from the air and carbon dioxide is exchange. It does its job with the millions tiny grape likes cells that
are called alveoli, which allows oxygen to seep into the capillaries or the thin wall that air sacs where
carbon dioxide exchange take place.

let s take a look remember the most important part of any electrical work is to ensure your own
personal safety in order to do that you need to identify the circuit you re going to be working on come
down to the electrical panel and identify the breaker that feeds that circuit turn off that breaker and
then verify the power has been turned off where you re working and then you can work safely when it

rds or damaged cords can be easily overloaded creating hotspots and represent a true fire and shock
hazard the other challenge you re going to have you usually have a lot of low power consuming
devices in there but they all need a plug so one option would be to put in an approved power cube the
problem with the cube tap is they re subject to user abuse you can cascade them by plugging more and
more into them which creates a hotspot and again it s a fire hazard so not really the preferred way to
go the third option would be to put in an approved power bar this is an entertainment center power bar
and it offers a number of features over the cube tab first of all it has overload protection to protect the
amount of power being used through the device second of all it has multiple outlets to meet all your
needs and finally it has surge suppression which will protect your sensitive electronic equipment don t
take a shortcut don t use extension cords get a permanently installed outlet there to meet all of your
needs other popular electrical renovation topics are light fixtures and ceiling fans let s take a look at a
typical light fixture replacement although it s relatively easy to install and replace there s a couple of
key components you should be careful of one is this insulation on the top of the fixture it s tempting to

Other Goat And Ram Gods
Other Goat/Ram Gods
Among the various goat/ram Egyptian gods besides Pan and Amon/Amen, there occurs Khem/Khnum,
Banebdjedet, Mendes, Bacchus, Set, Min, Horus, Ra, Osiris, that parallel goat presentations.
Predominantly, these particular gods intertwine their relationship together due to their sexual
standings.
Due to Pan s sexual perversions, predictably Egypt had claims of different places being the only place
of goat worship; nevertheless, there are conspicuously numerous locations. Mendes (Djedet) became
one of the main areas; yet, clearly there are numerous others.
In the wide development of goat gods, the god Min excels as one of the oldest ever found in Egypt.
Min s powerful dominating presence overtook the land maximizing the worship of sex. Concurrently,
in Koptos, there are three gigantic figures of Min broken into various pieces. Min became a god
shown all over Egypt sometimes in male human form, and assuredly occurs directly equated with Pan.
Indeed, the enigmatic Min persists as being always shown naked within the temples and in the
sanctuaries; which typically contained elaborate shires for him. Unequivocally, Victorian
Egyptologists took only waist up photographs of Min due to his protruding penis. The connection with
Min and Pan grew to great heights in the capital city of Akhmim. Prevalently, Pan s authority grew to
such influence that they renamed it Panopolis, as the City of Pan where another temple of Pan
advanced. Regretfully, the

Essay on The Defense Mechanism
Defense mechanism, in psychoanalysis, any of a variety of unconscious personality reactions which
the ego uses to protect the conscious mind from threatening feelings and perceptions. Sigmund Freud
first used defense as a psychoanalytic term (1894), but he did not break the notion into categories,
viewing it as a singular phenomenon of repression. His daughter, Anna Freud, expanded on his
theories in the 1930s, distinguishing some of the major defense mechanisms recognized today.
Primary defense mechanisms include repression and denial, which serve to prevent unacceptable ideas
or impulses from entering the conscience. Secondary defense mechanisms generally appearing as an
outgrowth of the primary defense mechanisms include projection, ... Show more content on

The defenses can also give us insight into our own mental processes sometimes mental gymnastics or
contortions. All defenses involve distortions of reality; they are ways of feeling better by fooling
ourselves. If we realized these defenses in our lives, we might handle reality better. Almost all
adjustment books mention these defense mechanisms, even the writers who are arrogantly critical of
Freud. An excellent text about Sigmund and Anna Freud and the ego defenses is by Christopher Monte
(1980).
Repression: shoving thoughts and urges that are unacceptable or distressing into our unconscious. This
is what happens to the unacceptable urges of childhood the ego represses them. Taboo ideas, like
incest, would probably never get into consciousness or, if they got there, they d be quickly repressed.
Sometimes dreams or slips of the tongue or attempts at humor reveal our unconscious motives. For
example, if a teacher ridiculed you in class, you might dream he/she had a horrible auto accident. Or,
trying hard to say something nice to the teacher a few days later, you comment after class, each of
your lectures seems better than the next. Or, if you were unfortunate enough to be asked to introduce
your former teacher at a symposium and said, I d like to prevent huh I mean present Dr.___, some
might guess the truth. All these speculations about repressed feelings are just guesses.
Repression must be distinguished from

The Reasons For The Revolution Of The American Revolution
From 1775 to 1783, the colonists battled against their mother country, England, for their
independence. The colonist strived for their independence due to the unequal representation in the
British government, the unfair taxes set in the colonies meant to help the British recover from their
war debts after the French and Indian War, and the many other factors that drove the colonists away
from England. Besides leaving England for those reasons, the colonists wanted their independence, so
they can create their own government with their own legislation and desires. They fought for their
freedom in order to stimulate a positive change within the country and begin a new chapter for the
colonists, which makes the revolution revolutionary. The American Revolution s attempt to establish
equal representation of the social classes in government, extend the rights for African Americans, and
restore the relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans made the Revolution
revolutionary to a certain extent. The American Revolution was revolutionary to a certain extent due
to the attempt on establishing an equal representation of the social classes within the new American
government system. In the 1794 statement of Reverend Devereux Jarratt, he states how after the
revolution, the newly installed government was better than the previous British government system
because the colonies were equally represented (Jameson, Doc C). The only issue was that since
everyone had a voice

The Three Eras Of The Medieval, Renaissance And Baroque...
The three most well known, and arguably most important, musical eras in western civilizations would
be the; medieval, Renaissance and Baroque time periods. With the basics of music with Gregorian
chant and organum from the medieval era to the newfound polyphony texture from the Renaissance
and the equal temperament and major minor tonality of the baroque era; Each time period brings a part
of the foundation that most past, present, and future music is and will be based on. While it may seem
that these three eras or completely different, they do contain several underlying similarities. Beginning
at around 476 AD, the medieval era is mostly related to the church as most music from this era is
sacred. The style of this era, the Gregorian chant is monophonic only comprising of the plainchant (or
the single line melodies of early church music) in texture only comprising of the plainchant (or the
single line melodies of early church music). It is not until the arrival of the French composers Léonin
and Pèrotin in 1100 and 1200 respectively that polyphony would be incorporated into musical worship
with the decoration of Gregorian chant with one or more simultaneous musical lines, thus transitioning
from Gregorian chant to Organum. During this era, most of the music and roles for musicians
belonged to the church except for the troubadours of southern France and the trouvères of northern
France. The music was responsorial between the mass and the father during church and was

The Evolution Of The Hokulea
The Evolution of the Hokulea The story of the Hokulea, a model of the first canoes that brought the
first Polynesians to Hawaii, is a story that restores cultural pride and history to Hawaiians. Her legacy
was almost extinct, but survived and restored the relationship that society has with its island home.
More than 600 years had gone by without seeing one of these canoes, until artist Herb Kane thought to
build a sailing canoe just like the ones his ancestors sailed (Hokulea.com).
Polynesia was a massive country forming a triangle that stretched between New Zealand in the west,
Rapa Nui in the east, and Hawaii in the north. This triangle covered 10 million square miles. It was
discovered by these amazing people who were like the astronauts of the time, because of their
amazing exploration skills. Remarkably, these Polynesians arrived in Hawaii 1,000 years before
Columbus sailed to the Americas. They were considered some of the greatest explorers in all of
history. These explorers were able to discover every livable land mass and island in the Pacific,
without the use of modern technology. All they had were canoes that were very similar to the Hokulea.
Polynesian explorers relied heavily on the stars, winds, waves, and other signs from nature to navigate
the ocean. Hawaii has a very historical and traditionally rooted culture, and the Hokulea is the
beginning and the very center of it. Hawaiians were able to develop the islands and mastered the art of
living sustainably.

Dependency Theory vs Modernization Theory
While the explanations of underdevelopment differed, experts such as Brooks and Hallward viewed
the natural disaster in Haiti to be so destructive mainly due to its poverty. By diminishing the level of
poverty in countries such as Haiti, it is possible to make them less vulnerable to many of the problems
they face. To reduce poverty it is important for societies to accept development strategies. What
exactly is development and how can it be achieved? Development is a process in which we attempt to
bridge the gap between developed and underdeveloped nations by means of an imitative process
through which less developed countries gradually assume the quality of industrialized nations (Canel).
It occurs from our ability to imagine, theorize, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the analysis of the differences between the Dependency and Modernization Theory, it is important
to primarily point out the disagreement between both theories on the causes of underdevelopment. The
Modernization Theory believes that underdevelopment is a product of the traditions and culture of
countries. The argument made by David Brooks for the situation in Haiti is one example which
portrays the views of this theory. He considers the religion and culture as constraints for Haiti to come
out of its poverty. In his article he states that the voodoo religion followed by the Haitians spreads the
message that life is capricious and planning futile. Theorists such as Lipset and Harrison claim
development can only be achieved if people change their views from traditional to modern. A
traditional view, according to them, is one in which life is integrated in the family, where much
importance is given to status and where people themselves limit growth. A modern view, on the other
hand, is one where the individual comes first and growth is encouraged in all ways. In contrast, the
Dependency Theory blames the developed world for the underdevelopment of the poor countries. In
other words, this approach believes that the economic dependency which exists between the North and
South is the cause of underdevelopment. Supporters of this theory believe that the relationship
between the developed and underdeveloped world is based on exploitation,

Why Terror Attacks Occur
Terror attacks are very awful and sadly occur way too often in our world. So one might ask why do
these keep happening and why would someone commit these horrifying crimes. Just this year we have
experienced eleven serious terror attacks, three of them happening in the United States , and eight
more throughout europe. In my opinion the three main reasons why Terror attacks occur are; Religion,
race, and hatred
The first topic I will be talking about and reasonings is religion. Religion is often the most common
form of terror attack but is also the oldest form. Religious terrorism is terrorism carried out based on
motivations and goals that have a predominantly religious character or influence. Religious terror
attacks has been occurring since before the bible most popular was the fight of the crusades against the
muslims. Nowadays it is mostly consisting of groups like ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) why
do they do it for this reason? I can t speak for them but I believe is that they want everyone to believe
in what their religious beliefs are.

Hate comes from a lot of places and the hate that is toward a certain group or people can be countless
of reasons. Some examples that we had this year is the gay nightclub shooting where a man attacked
an Orlando gay nightclub, killing 50 people, this of course being a hate towards gays and an attack at
their community. Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS on a 911 call, in one of the worst mass shootings
in U.S. history, and the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11. Then there is a type of hate like
though hate doesn t have to exactly be at a certain person or belief, everything that a terrorist does or
when a terror attack occurs is hate, the hate that is inside them to commit and go through with these
events is

Symptoms Of Dementia Essay
As we age, various disorders can affect how well our brains function. Dementia is one of the most
common brain disorders that seniors experience. Certain health conditions can cause dementia. For
example, chronic high blood pressure, previous stroke or blood vessel disease can lead to vascular
dementia.
Causes of Dementia
Many times, dementia is not the result of just one condition, but several. For instance, the combination
of Alzheimer s disease, strokes, Parkinson s disease and depression may lead to dementia.
Alzheimer s Disease
In the most recent U.S. census (2010), nearly 5 million people aged 65 and older were afflicted with
this disease. This condition causes brain cells in the area of the brain that controls memory to die. As

Internal And External Conflict In The Story Blue Winds...
The comparison of internal and external conflicts and the effect on the lives of the protagonists
Internal and external conflicts often affect a person s life as well as their families lives. Additionally, it
may lead a man to experience an epiphany about his own life. The story Blue Winds Dancing
demonstrates the internal and external struggles experienced by the native as he transitions into white
society. The native is an outcast and has a longing to return to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel

issue that Manischevitz faces is the ability to trust the black angel. He thinks [he] is a faker because
God would not send a black angel. However, God sent him this black angel as a test of his faith and
after he wavers, he returns to God. Throughout these tests of faith, he experiences an epiphany,
understanding that there are Jews everywhere (Malamud). Similarly, the native also has an external
conflict; he cannot get home after he realizes that he does not want to acculturate into the white
society. He tries to return home by dangerously hitchhiking onto the Santa Fe train. When he finally
leaps onto the cattle car, the native feels peaceful and content at last because he is going home
(Whitecloud). However, once the native finally arrives home, he faces an additional conflict; will his
family accept him. He is shivering for the dawn because he is simultaneously nervous and excited on
his journey home (Whitecloud). The story concludes with his family welcoming him back into the

Language Essay In English
Language is the way humans communicate with eachother. Most of us use it verbally, many use it in
writing and other use sign language in order to communicate. Language is part of almost everything
amongst us, we read it or hear it on a daily basis. If we are driving we read signs on the road, when we
buy stuff we read labels and we could not read without knowing the language, and when we speak we
also use language. But language does not stand alone, linguistics is a huge part of it. In my opinion,
linguistics is by far one of the most intriguing subjects and classes I have ever taken before. I believe
it is a subject everyone seems to be familiar with, yet not really aware of how and why we know the
gist of it. Linguistics is the scientific study of human language and its structure, we study language
because it teaches us how to communicate with others. Language is everywhere and part of our
everyday lives, we use language to communicate with everyone around us. For many communication
is vital as part of our jobs and for others it is a form of expression. Language is something that can
make us feel wonderful and happy, if someone compliments you, it makes you feel good, but it is also
something that can be used to hurt and make people cry, it is a powerful tool humans have. Language
whether it be verbal or not has meaning and we must know the basics in order to communicate
effectively. In linguistics we learn about the different perspective of language and the different

big role during this time. Many men would wear different colors including pink. Before the 1950 s
many teenagers would wear the same exact clothes as their parents did, in the 50 s we start to see
fashion including teenagers as their own fashion. Teenage girls would wear more colors, and tighter

CHAPTER 2: THE TIME VALUE OF MONEY

The next two sections will discuss how to determine the present value and the future value of cash

P10 = 10 (1 + 10 x 0,08) = 18 million
Generally: Pn = Po [ 1 + (i) x (n) ]
In which: Pn: accumulation of a loan at the end of period n. Po: Principals i: interest rate n: number of

Compound interest is interest that is paid not only on the principal but also on any interest earned but
not withdrawn during earlier periods. This happens when interest is earned on the interest earned in
prior periods.
Returning to the example above, you put 10 million in an account with compounding interest rate of
8% / year. After 10 years, how much money do you have? (including principal and interest)
After the first year, the amount accrued is:
P1 = 10 + 10 x 0,08 = 10 (1 +0,08) = 10,8 million
After the second year, the amount accrued is:
P2 = 10 (1+0,08) + 10(1 + 0,08) x 0,08 = 10 (1 + 0,08)(1 + 0,08) = 10 (1 + 0,08)2 = 11,664 million
After the third year, the amount accrued is:

Medea s changing intention throughout this story demonstrate a psychologically consistent pattern of
behaviour across events.
Medea shows some inconsistency as she battles internally with her lust for revenge and her desire not
to kill her own children. While Medea talks endlessly about exacting revenge and causing pain to
Jason at whatever cost to her throughout most of the play, her resolve wavers as the reality of
murdering her children approaches. As Molly has highlighted before me, Medea strengthens her
resolve by changing her intentions and considering an argument for killing her children inconsistent
with her previous thoughts, which is, as has been highlighted by Molly and the notes for the week,
sadly all too common in those contemplating

Conservation of Momentum Practical Write Up
CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM PRACTICAL WRITE UP
AIM: To investigate if momentum is conserved in two dimensional interactions within an isolated
system.
HYPOTHESIS: Without the effects of friction the momentum will be conserved in the isolated
system. In all three experiments the momentum before the interaction will equal the momentum after
the interaction.
METHOD: An air hockey table was set up and a video camera on a tripod was placed over the air
hockey table. The camera was positioned so it was directly above the air hockey table facing
downwards. The air hockey table was turned on and two near identical pucks were placed on the table,
one at one end of the table and one in the centre. The puck at the end of the table was launched by ...

This would have created friction which is regarded as an external force; therefore the pucks were no
longer in an isolated system. Another random error occurred in the first experiment where the red puck
was initially held down to prevent it from moving and released when the black puck collided with it.
Due to the person s reaction time, holding it in place may have interfered with the collision as it was
an external force and this may have impacted upon the results.
Several systematic occurred in this experiment, but the most important one would have been the fact
that the air hockey table was not completely level. This impacted upon the experiment in two ways. In
the first experiment where the red puck is initially stationary, as the table was not level it moved
around before the black puck collided with it. To overcome this the red puck had to be held in place
and as mentioned before this would have provided and external force acting upon the puck. The
unevenness of the air hockey table also meant that there was a possibility of friction acting on the
pucks while they were moving. In the third collision with the Velcro another systematic error
occurred. When the two pucks collided and stuck together they did not continue straight, instead they
rotated. This is not linear momentum but rather it is angular momentum. This is reflected in the results
as the magnitude of the initial and final momentum of the system is equal, but the

The company identified the companies it would work with based on their location, access to
consumers, and relevance. It observed the benefits it would gain from working together with different
companies before deciding to work in partnership with them. To determine what the members would
want from the reward program, the company conducted interviews with different customers. It
realized that it could roughly divide the customers into three segments based on their reward
preferences. Some customers preferred better services and recognition; others preferred room
upgrades and other product offerings, whereas others were interested in a combination of both.
Customer interaction enabled the company know what the customers wanted. Analysis indicated that
most of the members preferred the following reward programs in order, room upgrades, airline miles,
free hotel stays, and on property benefits and services. This led to the creation of innovative products,

Capitalism Vs Capitalism
2.2 Capitalism is chaotic
Marx also criticizes capitalism because of its chaotic nature. In this regard, the author states that
capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx
argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run
which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a
planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and
freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies
seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian
theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012).
2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality
Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that
created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of people
in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as proletarians
who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which comprises of the
capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. As a result of the competing interests,
capitalism creates a struggle between these two classes of people hence the reason as to why it is
undesirable.

with the workplace. The United State Constitution and its corresponding Fourth Amendment privacy

Animal Testing Is Not All Humane And Pain Free
An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the united states for scientific and commercial
testing (ProCon.org). We are rapidly using up the earth s supply of small animals. A 2011 poll of
nearly 1,000 biomedical scientists conducted by the science journal Nature found that more than 90%
agreed that the use of animals in research is essential (ProCon.org). Right now, millions of mice, rats,
rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked up in cages and are getting killed for scientific tests to
create products and medicines. Thus, animal testing is cruel and inhumane to be experimenting on
animals, there are alternative methods available to researchers to replace animal testing, and that
animals are so different from human beings that research on animals often yields irrelevant results.
First, Animals used for scientific testing is cruel and inhumane because animal s experience feelings
just like humans. What I discovered in my research is that animal testing is not all humane and pain
free as most people think. The US Department of Agriculture reported in 2010 that 97,123 animals
suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief (ProCon.org). If humans
receive anesthesia during surgeries, then so should the animals. These animals undergo procedures
that cause these animals to feel 100% pain. Although animal testing may seem environmentally
friendly, animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, and the

Disability Essay
In today s society men have an attraction towards skinny women. The most gorgeous super models are
thin and when other girls look at them, they get jealous. Many girls see this, and view themselves as
being overweight and have a complex and a desire, which is to be skinny, this disease is called
Anorexia. Anorexia is a disease, which affects mostly women and sometimes men. Anorexia is when
you think you are fat, and you deprive yourself of food in order to be skinny. They see themselves as
being fat and want to strive to be better than the quot;norm quot;, and by that, being as skinny as
possible. The glamorous women are skinny and we see this everywhere in movies, fashion shows,
television, magazines etc...
Lennard Davis describes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, as we have seen, is in contrast to societies with the concept of an ideal, in which all people have
a non ideal status quot; (Davis, p29)
Davis is saying that there are many people who are considered normal and want to be better than that.
Anorexia deals with this because girls feel they have to be skinny in order to be beautiful.
Beautiful as in being prettier than quot;average quot; women are. They want to be the ideal but then
they stray away from it as they get into the extremes cases of anorexic they go toward the non ideal
situation.
Ideology plays a big part in this because with anorexia the girls strive to be skinny, and this is their
quot;ideal quot; situation. With anorexia they get to their ideal stage and still have a complex of
thinking they are fat. They go far beyond they ideal stage and then the disease takes them far beyond
their desired state and get into an acute situation. In my sister s situation it became so severe that she
had to put in a hospital and had to be fed intravenously. She weighed 97 pounds and was 5 10 quot; at
her worst.
Anorexia is also caused by a stigma. We ask why does a person become Anorexic? One way a person
may become anorexic is by them being alienated, or mentally abused due to their obesity.
Having a stigma hurts a lot and sometimes people must take extreme measures in order to fight the
stigma and get on with their normal life. As

Nervous Conditions Paper Pass the Brainwash Please, On Second Thought Quietly, unobtrusively and extremely fitfully, something in my mind began to assert itself, to question things, and to refuse to be brainwashed The main character, Tambudzai, in the novel Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga, is determined to get a white education without losing her native tongue and ways. However this proves to be more difficult that she would expect and seeds that are planted in her mind by the whites begin to take shape, and greatly affect her existence. I will begin by giving an overview of the story leading up to the point where Tambu heads off to begin her education at the missionary school. Next I show how Tambu has already been brainwashed into believing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What she does not see directly is the effect that a white, English education will have on her. She has been brainwashed because she believes that a white English education is better than the education she would received within her hometown culture. Tambu has to battle several influences in order to refuse to be brainwashed. First and foremost she had to overcome her own thought process that a white education was better than the education she received at home because it was white. Originally Tambu s pursuit of this white, English based education causes her to be cut off from her parents who maintain the traditional cultures and values. The very education that allows her to survive in this magical new world of education which was created by colonialism is the same thing that cuts her off from her heritage. Second she must overcome the influence that her uncle s ideas have over her. Tambu must realize that her uncle s ideas are often white and were assimilated into him while he was attaining his white education. For example her uncle Babamukuru comes up with the idea that Tambu s parents must get married, which is a white tradition, to clear their family of the sins that are causing the families hardships. • 3. Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. For centuries, libraries have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses. (Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to rebrand themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real time, and the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with other agencies devoted to education and information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests that, Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively with partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations. (2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and most credible information. #Learning Commons The year of the Learning Commons is ablaze on social media. Teacher librarians are embracing technology as a way to reach new audiences and share resources. The social media of choice for these tech savvy teachers is Twitter, and their hashtag is YearLC. • 4. Sanity And Insanity In Shakespeare s King Lear Determining the sanity and insanity of an individual can be extremely hard, especially when you do not know much about the person. In Shakespeare s King Lear there are many character who seem like they are going mad, and an example of such a character is King Lear. King Lear succumbs to anger, rash decisions, and grief driving him to insanity, thus leading to the destruction of the kingdom. King Lear is a character who displays a great deal of anger throughout the course of the play, he often allows his anger to take over him. A lot of things that are said and during the course of the play are due to Lear s anger which is a leading factor for his insanity. Lear loses his temper during a love test when his daughter does not give the answer that he was looking for, he disowns her calling Cordelia his, sometime daughter, (1.1.119) and gives her share of the land to her sisters. This in turn leads to his insanity because in his blind rage he does not acknowledge the sincerity behind Cordelia s veiled words; unlike her sisters she does not try to flatter her father in order to receive more land, whereas her sisters have their secrets agendas and do not truly love Lear. In addition to this, King Lear is also enraged when the Earl of Kent who is a loyal follower of Lear, goes against the banishment of Cordelia and speaks up in favour of the youngest daughter. Lear is livid with Kent going against him and banishes Kent, as well reminding him that, if on the tenth day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations. According to Dinesh D Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not, however, an abolitionist. His daughter, Anna Freud, expanded on his theories in the 1930s, distinguishing some of the major defense mechanisms recognized today. Primary defense mechanisms include repression and denial, which serve to prevent unacceptable ideas or impulses from entering the conscience. Secondary defense mechanisms generally appearing as an outgrowth of the primary defense mechanisms include projection, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The defenses can also give us insight into our own mental processes sometimes mental gymnastics or contortions. All defenses involve distortions of reality; they are ways of feeling better by fooling ourselves. If we realized these defenses in our lives, we might handle reality better. Almost all adjustment books mention these defense mechanisms, even the writers who are arrogantly critical of Freud. An excellent text about Sigmund and Anna Freud and the ego defenses is by Christopher Monte (1980). Repression: shoving thoughts and urges that are unacceptable or distressing into our unconscious. This is what happens to the unacceptable urges of childhood the ego represses them. Taboo ideas, like incest, would probably never get into consciousness or, if they got there, they d be quickly repressed. Sometimes dreams or slips of the tongue or attempts at humor reveal our unconscious motives. For example, if a teacher ridiculed you in class, you might dream he/she had a horrible auto accident. Or, trying hard to say something nice to the teacher a few days later, you comment after class, each of your lectures seems better than the next. Or, if you were unfortunate enough to be asked to introduce your former teacher at a symposium and said, I d like to prevent huh I mean present Dr.___, some might guess the truth. All these speculations about repressed feelings are just guesses. Repression must be distinguished from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Reasons For The Revolution Of The American Revolution From 1775 to 1783, the colonists battled against their mother country, England, for their independence. The colonist strived for their independence due to the unequal representation in the British government, the unfair taxes set in the colonies meant to help the British recover from their war debts after the French and Indian War, and the many other factors that drove the colonists away from England. Besides leaving England for those reasons, the colonists wanted their independence, so they can create their own government with their own legislation and desires. They fought for their freedom in order to stimulate a positive change within the country and begin a new chapter for the colonists, which makes the revolution revolutionary. The American Revolution s attempt to establish equal representation of the social classes in government, extend the rights for African Americans, and restore the relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans made the Revolution revolutionary to a certain extent. The American Revolution was revolutionary to a certain extent due to the attempt on establishing an equal representation of the social classes within the new American government system. In the 1794 statement of Reverend Devereux Jarratt, he states how after the revolution, the newly installed government was better than the previous British government system because the colonies were equally represented (Jameson, Doc C). The three most well known, and arguably most important, musical eras in western civilizations would be the; medieval, Renaissance and Baroque time periods. With the basics of music with Gregorian chant and organum from the medieval era to the newfound polyphony texture from the Renaissance and the equal temperament and major minor tonality of the baroque era; Each time period brings a part of the foundation that most past, present, and future music is and will be based on. While it may seem that these three eras or completely different, they do contain several underlying similarities. Beginning at around 476 AD, the medieval era is mostly related to the church as most music from this era is sacred. The style of this era, the Gregorian chant is monophonic only comprising of the plainchant (or the single line melodies of early church music) in texture only comprising of the plainchant (or the single line melodies of early church music). It is not until the arrival of the French composers Léonin and Pèrotin in 1100 and 1200 respectively that polyphony would be incorporated into musical worship with the decoration of Gregorian chant with one or more simultaneous musical lines, thus transitioning from Gregorian chant to Organum. During this era, most of the music and roles for musicians belonged to the church except for the troubadours of southern France and the trouvères of northern France. The Evolution Of The Hokulea The Evolution of the Hokulea The story of the Hokulea, a model of the first canoes that brought the first Polynesians to Hawaii, is a story that restores cultural pride and history to Hawaiians. Her legacy was almost extinct, but survived and restored the relationship that society has with its island home. More than 600 years had gone by without seeing one of these canoes, until artist Herb Kane thought to build a sailing canoe just like the ones his ancestors sailed (Hokulea.com). Polynesia was a massive country forming a triangle that stretched between New Zealand in the west, Rapa Nui in the east, and Hawaii in the north. This triangle covered 10 million square miles. It was discovered by these amazing people who were like the astronauts of the time, because of their amazing exploration skills. Remarkably, these Polynesians arrived in Hawaii 1,000 years before Columbus sailed to the Americas. They were considered some of the greatest explorers in all of history. These explorers were able to discover every livable land mass and island in the Pacific, without the use of modern technology. All they had were canoes that were very similar to the Hokulea. Polynesian explorers relied heavily on the stars, winds, waves, and other signs from nature to navigate the ocean. Hawaii has a very historical and traditionally rooted culture, and the Hokulea is the beginning and the very center of it. Hawaiians were able to develop the islands and mastered the art of living sustainably. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Dependency Theory vs Modernization Theory While the explanations of underdevelopment differed, experts such as Brooks and Hallward viewed the natural disaster in Haiti to be so destructive mainly due to its poverty. By diminishing the level of poverty in countries such as Haiti, it is possible to make them less vulnerable to many of the problems they face. To reduce poverty it is important for societies to accept development strategies. What exactly is development and how can it be achieved? Development is a process in which we attempt to bridge the gap between developed and underdeveloped nations by means of an imitative process through which less developed countries gradually assume the quality of industrialized nations (Canel). In the analysis of the differences between the Dependency and Modernization Theory, it is important to primarily point out the disagreement between both theories on the causes of underdevelopment. The Modernization Theory believes that underdevelopment is a product of the traditions and culture of countries. The argument made by David Brooks for the situation in Haiti is one example which portrays the views of this theory. He considers the religion and culture as constraints for Haiti to come out of its poverty. In his article he states that the voodoo religion followed by the Haitians spreads the message that life is capricious and planning futile. Theorists such as Lipset and Harrison claim development can only be achieved if people change their views from traditional to modern. A traditional view, according to them, is one in which life is integrated in the family, where much importance is given to status and where people themselves limit growth. A modern view, on the other hand, is one where the individual comes first and growth is encouraged in all ways. In contrast, the Dependency Theory blames the developed world for the underdevelopment of the poor countries. In other words, this approach believes that the economic dependency which exists between the North and South is the cause of underdevelopment. In this regard, the author states that capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017).
