In Angel Levine , Manischevitz struggles with his surroundings. He lost everything, including his
children and his establishment because it catches fire and then burn[s] to the ground (Malamud). He
now must support the family financially and take care of his ill wife, Fanny. Another large external
issue that Manischevitz faces is the ability to trust the black angel. He thinks [he] is a faker because
God would not send a black angel. However, God sent him this black angel as a test of his faith and
after he wavers, he returns to God. Throughout these tests of faith, he experiences an epiphany,
understanding that there are Jews everywhere (Malamud). Similarly, the native also has an external
conflict; he cannot get home after he realizes that he does not want to acculturate into the white
society. He tries to return home by dangerously hitchhiking onto the Santa Fe train. When he finally
leaps onto the cattle car, the native feels peaceful and content at last because he is going home
(Whitecloud). However, once the native finally arrives home, he faces an additional conflict; will his
family accept him. He is shivering for the dawn because he is simultaneously nervous and excited on
his journey home (Whitecloud). The story concludes with his family welcoming him back into the
native world.

agreed that the use of animals in research is essential (ProCon.org). Right now, millions of mice, rats,
rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked up in cages and are getting killed for scientific tests to

animals, there are alternative methods available to researchers to replace animal testing, and that
