CHAPTER 10 MINOR INTERNATIONAL PART 1 a. The software consultant is a sunk cost.
The consultant is being hired to assist with the decision as to whether to invest in either project or
not. This cost will be incurred before the decision for either project is made and is not incremental
to either project. Consequently, it is considered a sunk cost. In addition, the inter company charge
for the computer time is not an incremental cash flow to the firm. Consequently, it is really an
internal allocation and should not be considered in the valuation of either project. Alternative A

variation allowed for in the initial investments (15%). A more meaningful comparison could be

Fridays because the students get to watch a movie at the end of the day. Also on Fridays, the
occupational therapist pushes in for 30 minutes. She collaborates on a variety of movement
activities which include students doing yoga and meditation. She begins with a warm up where
the students stretch. Then she plays music for the students to listen to and it helps the students
to know what the upcoming steps are. Behavioral problems the students display include
throwing themselves on the floor and throwing items. John exhibits these problems, and he also
pushes his work away or he will push the paraprofessional when he does not get his way or when
he feels defeated. Sara bites, slaps, kicks, and squeezes the hands of adults when they attempt to

Globalization, Glt1, Task 1 Essays
Globalization Western Governors University Globalization refers to the development of an
integrated world economy, exchange of cultural views, thoughts, and products (Wikipedia, 2013).
Pologeorgis (2012) states that, essentially globalization began with the exploration and settlement
of new lands. Communication and transportation advances have aided in this process. Two non
Western countries that have been impacted by globalization are India and China. India opened its
doors to globalization during the nineteen nineties following an economic crisis in which the
country almost defaulted on loans (Balakrishnan, n.d.). Before globalization India purposely
isolated itself from world markets and was in a state of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Western culture has had an impact on traditional Chinese society. The West s impact can be seen
in the advertisement of Western products, acceptance of Western business, and change of
thought to accept Western ideals. Examples of this include the prevalence of foreign companies
in the country like McDonalds, Nike, and Marriott. A change in ideals was expressed by Jaffe
(2012) who wrote that while living in China she noticed that foreign advertisements often
featured Western models. Curious about this she asked her Chinese friends about it. They
explained that by Chinese standards big eyes, fair skin, and a pronounced nose was thought to
be beautiful. Western influence in China seems to only be influencing major cities with villages
only being influenced by globalization when it is forced upon them like it was during the 2008
Olympics when one town was displaced so that Olympic facilities could be built (Ames, n.d.).
Some would also suggest that the influence of Western media through the use of the internet, or
American media had led to a loss of their traditional language as the people begin to speak chi
English (Chang, n.d.). From all of this is plain to see that globalization can have positive and
negative effects upon a society, but a country that refuses to open its doors to the world face
economic stagnation and poverty for its people. Those

The Evolution Of A Gentleman

The Evolution of a Gentleman
Confucianism is based off of many diverse concepts, some of which are the junzi and the xiaoren.
These terms have been widely interpreted throughout time, and make up most of this concept. In
order to understand Confucianism, one must first understand the significance of these two notions.
A junzi (gentleman) and xiaoren (small man) are very important aspects of Confucianism and have
distinct meanings, qualities, and modern day societal attributes. While a junzi (gentleman) is
defined one way by Confucius, a xiaoren (small man) would be considered the contrary. As defined
by Confucius, a gentleman is an individual who lives by a moral code, not motivated by gain, but
by what is right. A small man is the complete opposite. A small man is an individual who lives to
benefit and for selfish reasons. Confucius states that gentlemen lead others through their actions
demonstrated through: When gentlemen perform well, all their duties to their relations, the people
are inspired to virtue (Chichung).1 Gentlemen are very selfless, unlike small men, and strive to be
better men and better citizens. People in turn strive to be like a gentleman. In early interpretations,
a gentleman was viewed as inherently superior to a small man and seen as a prince. The later
interpretation translated it, not as a ruler, but as a moral person who leads by his actions and honor.
Society is built up by gentlemen and

School Night
Laying down in your bed, you hear this consistent knocking. You try to sleep through it but it
seems as if it will never quit. Curious, you roll out of bed away from the comfort of your wife s
warm body but cautiously move closer, step by step downstairs into the direction of the sound.
Each step you take wondering whether or not your house is being robbed. You finally ease your
way downstairs and quickly flip the light switch only to find your home empty and totally void
of any damage or evidence of a theft of any kind; however, you still hear the sound. You notice it
s coming from your front door, but its 3 A.M. on a school night. The hairs on the back of your
neck begin to rise and your heart beats faster, wondering who is violently knocking on your front
door. You remember the incident at your store where a brick was thrown through the window and
how you angered the community by canceling a game and blemishing a season with such a
historical start. You pull the shade back on the front door, revealing not an angered parent, but
Timo Cruz, once a player on your basketballteam that you haven t seen for weeks, covered in
blood. You hastily unlatch the door and invite him in. At first sight, he begins muttering the events
leading up to him now covered in his cousin s blood. He tells how he scared off some bullies for
the other players on the basketball team with the gun in his waistline, but only to witness his cousin
slaughtered from across the street.

Review Of Dennis Covington s Redneck Riviera
Traveling more than ten hours in a car is something that nobody wants to do; however, for Dennis
Covington, it is a top priority for him to make this long journey to the redneck Riviera on the
panhandle in Florida. In the nonfiction book Redneck Riviera (2004), Dennis Covington, comical
southerner, teacher and soldier, describes in his nonfiction piece, the importance of his family
inheritance as over the years he travels to the Gulf Coast of Florida. Throughout the book
Covington tells stories of his childhood and constantly is lightening the mood for example, he
writes, I m looking for the hawk that got one of my hens, he said. I know it s illegal to shoot them,
but what the hawk did was illegal, too. You with the government? (71). Covington... Show more

He essentially gets run out of Florida by hog hunters. Covington s editor had told him, No
bullets, no book. So when they started shooting up his cabin, trying to kill him, he knew that he
had a contract. Covington s style and logical fallacies that he implements into his writing make
his stories quite funny. An example of a fallacy he uses a hasty generalization when he says, Sue
shook her head. I think they just did it to make her mad. And break ins happen all the time. Sue
explains that the Hunt Club constantly has control over all of the land. Another example is when
he uses the non sequitur when explaining the cows on the land, saying, the cows they hunted
turned into a scrawny but tenacious breed ... you could hang a hat on them (73). There are also
plenty of scare tactics used by the Hunt Club to fulfill their objective of keeping the land isolated
from outsiders. A specific example is when Peanut says, ...the leaders of the Hunt Club can t
guarantee your safety if you camp on it (76). The detail in his stories and the character involvement
in his journey really add certain rhetoric to his venture. Covington s jargon is used as an informal
way of connecting with his audience. An example of his diction is when he uses the term ne er do
well. Although his efforts are relentless, Covington always runs into conflict with the Hunt

African Art Research Paper
African life has a big impact on African art. Many art pieces are inspired by a story of a culture
and how they lived and what inspired them to create some of the works. These art pieces can come
in many forms such as painting, sculpture, and dancing and they each convey the cycle of life with
the importance of pregnancies, beauty and youth and afterlife. These three things are represented in
so many African art pieces.
Before I begin talking about these three ways that African art forms convey the cycle of life I
should talk a little about African Art and the life cycle. African art comes in many different forms
and sizes throughout Africa. These artworks usually symbolize something bigger, they tell us a
story. Not everyone can create a meaningful African art piece with a story behind it, those that can

Women get pregnant to they are able to reproduce and keep the cycle going. When it comes to
pregnancy in Africa, it might be treated differently as you move around the countries in Africa. A
lot of African artworks usually show a mother and her child, however, there are some that show
just the woman but we are still able to tell that the piece refers to pregnancy. When a sculpture of
women is made, they do not usually cover the boobs, if a female status books are more pulled
down it means that they have given birth before. Another way we can tell that a piece of art
symbolizes pregnancy is that some woman may have a scar on their stomach.
Youth and beauty, everyone wants to stay young and beautiful forever. The words youth and
beauty changes as you go around the world. Some cultures may find flawless skin beautiful and
women under a certain age to be younger. In some African culture scars symbolize beauty, the
more you have the more beautiful you are. There are so many pieces of art/sculpture that we have

many of these devices do not provide a steadily continuous flow of heat, and consequently, the

To begin, opponents argue that mandated coverage infringes on religious freedom and conscience.
In 1809, Thomas Jefferson declared [no] provision in our Constitution ought to be dear to man than

2). Jefferson s statement suggests a contraception law leaves the rights of opponents at risk.
Furthermore, contrary to supporter s beliefs, critics contend that abortions would not be reduced
from the mandate. To support, executive director Greg Pfundstein, of the New York City pro life
organization Chiaroscuro Foundation, writes in the National Review that although contraceptives
were broadly available the 70s the out of wedlock birthrate has tripled and the number of abortions
had not decreased, ( Birth Control Funding: 5). This implies that opponents are not convinced by
proponent s proposal s. Finally, opponents emphasize that complete coverage is detrimental to
American ideals. The federal government crossed a line says republican congressman Jeff
Fortenberry, in an article criticizing the mandate, the affordable Care Act represents the flash point
of an ideological agenda that in no small measure threatens to undermine fundamental liberties that
have defined the essence of our national character, (1) . This statement suggests that many critics do
not wish to impact the status quo.

The Khmer Rouge During The 20th Century
Cambodia has been significantly affected by the ongoing communism and the rule of the Khmer
Rouge during the 20th century. Referred to as The Khmer Rouge regime, Cambodian genocide,
Year Zero and the Cambodian Holocaust, the rule of the Communist Party of Kampuchea from
1975 1979 has had a devastating impact on Cambodiaand the country s condition in the 21st
century. Led by Pol Pot, the beliefs and objectives of the Khmer Rougehas resulted in Cambodia s
loss of culture and identity, the deaths of approximately 4 million people resulting in generation
loss and a brain drain and has affected how Cambodia is in today s society.
The views and objectives of the Communist Party of Kampuchea was the catalyst in creating the
Khmer Rouge, and as a result, caused the destruction of Cambodia. The party s belief in
communism and equality conflicted with the views of the then party in ruling. This prompted the
Communist party to take over on April 14, 1975, with the view of creating a society where no one
was exploited and everyone was equal. Journalist, Elizabeth Becker reports about the new national
anthem, which showcases the patriotism of the Party. ...We are uniting to edify splendid and
democratic new Kampuchea and new society with equality and justice... This reflects their views
and shows their new found strength in their successful takeover. This view also prompted the

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay
Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is
impaired ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize
the insulin produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of
glucose in the blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia,
especially after a meal. Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest
morbidity rates globally. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
(2015), approximately 29.1 million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this
number, about 21.0 million people were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were
undiagnosed. According to the World Health Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes
among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014. The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in
1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most significant among the middle and low income
countries. This has mostly been explained by the changes in income distribution in those countries.
In other words, the proportion of people who have had an increase of revenue has increased
significantly in the middle and low income countries. People with diabetes lack the ability to
regulate the level of glucose in the blood. Consequently, whenever they eat, their blood glucose
level rises above the normal maximum limit leading to hyperglycemia. Poorly controlled

The On The Tom Green County Juvenile Probation Resources...
Programs and Services On the Tom Green County Juvenile Probation Resources website, I found
quite a few programs and services that I believe would work for adolescents who are either at
risk or already in the juvenile justice system. The programs and services are: the High Sky
Children s Ranch, The West Texas Boys Ranch, The Concho Valley Home for Girls, House of
Faith, The Youth Advocate Program, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. The reason I
believed these types of programs and services would work is because they all include some type
of support, counseling and/or mentoring for adolescents and juveniles. The types of programs and
service are extremely important because they offer adolescents and juveniles resources they may
not be receiving at their home life. The programs and services I found to be more politically
motivated are: The Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS) and The Texas Juvenile
Justice Department. The reasons I find them politically motivated is because they are programs that
are ran by the government, so they focused more on making money rather than offering help. They
may offer help, but only to a certain extent due to the many regulations they have abide by.

The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe
Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the society. People in
the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked to help them, but saw it as a
satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially acceptable for people to seek for advice or
help from witches, it was taboo for witches to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other
beliefs that went against the Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often
unable to receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the acts
of torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political turmoil, the Trial
of Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much concerned with the truth, but
rather convicted these women because of their marginalized role in society caused by social
disposition. Furthermore, it can be suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire
about magic, the law heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that
Tempel Anneke displays the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female figure
that was perceived as a burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke was a widower who
lost her husband who during the Thirty Years War and depended on her son s financial
assistance. Furthermore, she was informally trained by her mother as a naturopathic healer and
used her healing skills to help cure people and animals in her community by using herbs and
other plants. Anneke had not been accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for
medicinal purposes on a regular basis until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful
magic she was accused of employing that led to fear and resentment towards her. Lastly, society s
perceptions of women during the time furthered their inability to prove their innocence through a
fair trial. It was a widely held belief that women were of weak understanding, and are hence more
likely to be ensnared by the lies and illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). Society s prejudice towards
women, especially elderly women dependent on society, predetermined the fate of the women
charged for witchcraft; the court of

Effects Of Abolish Minimum Wage
Abolish Minimum Wage
According to the Minimum Wage Review 2015, conducted by the Ministry of Business, Innovation
and Employment (MBIE), when the minimum wage was set at $14.75, 74,900 people were
impacted. The same study showed that by increasing the minimum wage by only 5.1% to $15.25 an
additional 77,800 people would be affected and it would cost the Government $22.82million dollars
annually. According to the 2016 Minimum WageReview, again conducted by MBIE, after the
minimum wage was set to $15.25, if they were to increase the minimum wage to $19.25 (still
below the recommended living wage of $20.20) approximately 28,000 people would lose their
jobs and there would be an increased cost of approximately $543.55million dollars annually.
While we all know that a higher than minimum wage income would go a long way towards
raisin economic standards of areas where minimum wage jobs are prevalent, a higher minimum
wage could also have adverse effects as well (Laffer, 2016). For employees, minimum wage
work translates into income, standard of living, education and taxes which make up our entire
economy (Laffer, 2016). For employers, minimum wage creates competitive pressures and
productivity, taxes and living standards for investors, suppliers and employers themselves
(Laffer, 2016). Minimum wage reduces job growth over several years and for every 10% increase
there is a 1 2% reduction in low skilled employment (Neumark, 2015). However, it s not just

Nikita Sergeyevich Kruschev Essay
Nikita Sergeyevich Kruschev
Serving as one the most controversial leaders of the Soviet Union during its relatively short
existence, Nikita Sergeyevich Khruschev proved to be a leader capable of transforming a nation.
Through his many alterations to the systems by which the Soviets lived, he managed to increase
the standard of living and productivity of this Communist State. Described as a man of enormous
energy and drive, he was shrewd, tough, earthy, sociable and talkative, and he confidently took
colossal gambles in both foreign and domestic policies. From his Secret Speech and the following

One week after this occurrence, Khruschev took over control of the Communist party from
Malenkov. He then proceeded to arrest Beria, head of the secret police, and execute him along
with six of his aides. By this time he was the acknowledged head of the Communist party. He
quickly rose to the position of Premier when, in 1956 he forced Malenkov to resign from the
position. Following this he delivered a compelling speech to the people denouncing many of
Stalin s actions. He expelled all of his remaining rivals in June of 1957. The four main rivals,
Molotov, Malenkov, Kaganovich, and Shepilov, were not executed as a responsible action to
exhibit Khruschev s compassion and responsibility in an effort to boost public support. As a
result of this political campaign based on responsibility and compassion, he freed many political
prisoners and urged peaceful coexistence with the West. This process of solidifying his leadership
took a long time and was a great risk to him and his people because of the past popularity and
support of Stalin and his ways.
Although he seemed to be steering the Soviet Union in the right direction, his people and
colleagues still viewed him critically. He had begun to realize that a state could not be run with a
lot of brain washed helots . He shifted the economy as to raise the standard of living. This in turn
began the development of individual thinkers, Soviets with a mind of their own. In order to allow

Cultural contrasts:
Individualistic Collectivistic
According to Hofstede, Great Britain is an individualistic country (score: 89), Brazil is a more
collectivist country (score: 38) and Spain is in the middle with a score of 51.
In a collectivist country an organisation puts the stress on the training of skills. That is what
Santander does with Abbey: they train the employees to improve the customer service
If we presume that the training of the UK employees happens after the working hours, they have
less personal time. But personal time is very important in an individualistic country, as Great Britain
is according to Hofstede, so this can create dissatisfaction among the UK staff.

have possibly imagined a world dotted with virtual teams. Tuckman s framework for evaluating
teamwork using the stages of forming, storming, norming and performing was created after a
study of a variety of face to face teams. As a testimony to his work, it is generally accepted that
Tuckman s premise about groups experiencing definitive stages toward formation, also applies to
groups of people who don t share physical space and span time zones. There is some thought that
the storming stage is integrated into the other stages or skipped entirely. (Berry, 2011). The lack of
defined storming might be due to virtual teams having more of a task versus personality orientation
and having a well defined communication plan also serving as a proactive conflict management
measure.
Also, there is a shared opinion that well planned formation activities are critically important for a
virtual team. At the top of the list is training on the technology and related communication systems
to be used. (Berry, 2011).
The importance of trust in any team
There is agreement across the board of teamwork experts on the importance of trust in a team
setting. If a team wants to succeed, the presence of trust must be welcomed, nurtured and
maintained. There is also a majority shared opinion that trust building takes time, but it can be
accelerated with

D.H.Lawrence Sons and Lovers
In Sons and Lovers, Paul is not really torn between Miriam and Clara but rather between his mother
and his father. Discuss.
Sons and Lovers is considered one of the greatest English novels of the twentieth century. Centred
on the lives of an English rural family, the novel explores issues relating to marriage, family,
industrialism, class and sexuality. While the first sections of the book focus on the early marriage
of Mr and Mrs. Morel, it is their second son Paul who comes to dominate the work. Shy, clever,
sensual, and in many ways mirroring D.H.Lawrence himself, Paul is an artist brought into the world
as an unwanted burden and by the end of the novel left meaningless and derelict. It is the interim,
the life of Paul, that makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul opts for the lower desires in choosing Clara. From the offset, it is clear that their relationship
is much more physical. Their raunchy outdoor adventures and visits to the park are in stark
contrast to Paul and Miriam s friendly walks in the wood. Furthermore, the corporeal
descriptions and body imagery Lawrence uses in detailing Paul and Clara together reflect the
physical nature of their relationship. We are told, He touched her. His whole body was
quivering with the sensation (p.369) and of his bodily tension he experiences when he is
waiting for Monday to arrive so he can hold Clara. The corporeal descriptions of shoulders,
hands, ears, hair, and breasts amid kissing stand in contrast to the descriptions we got of Miriam
which were mostly limited to her eyes. While their relationship is physical in a way Paul and
Miriam s never was, it too is limited. In possessing the physical connection Paul loses the spiritual
one. His feeling for Mrs.Dawes...was shallow and temporal, compared with his love for herself
[Miriam] (p.337). The two did not have the same intimacy of soul. This is highlighted by the fact
that Clara does not have the same interest in his art; she does not understand it according to Paul.
Mrs. Morel gives an accurate depiction in saying She seems straight; you know not a bit deep, not
a bit . Paul is thus

Ethics Of Animal Cloning
In the early 1900 s scientists started investigating Charles Darwin s theory of evolution. Through
questioning and experimenting scientists were able to conclude every cell contained a specific set
of instructions, which is known today as DNA. This discovery has led to a multitude of additional
discoveries, including a better understanding of reproduction and genetic information. As
advancements continued in learning about DNA, a new biotechnology was discovered called
somatic cellnuclear transfer or SCNT. This is the process of taking out the information within the
embryonic cell and replacing it with information from an adult body cell from a different being. By
mixing the embryonic cell and the genetic information of another, a clone,... Show more content on

Human beings have a responsibility to act morally just, not causing any being unnecessary pain and
suffering. Which is exactly what animal cloning has been causing these animals. To better
understand how these animals are suffering, one needs to have a better understanding on how
the natural reproduction process works. Genes from both hosts are transferred in random order
to the new cell. Each specific allele or trait has a specific place on the stand of DNA, this assures
everything need to create another being is represented. The female body then provides nutrition
and safety for the growing being. If the cell has errors in the new DNA, or the host body cannot
provide adequate support for the developing embryo then the body naturally aborts the embryo.
With cloning only one set of DNA is being transferred into the egg, which provides the exact
replica of the already established being. But this embryo is then planted into a different host body
to provide nutrition and safety as it is developing. The problem with this is that the embryo is
foreign to the host body. Just like foreign germs entering into the body, an immune responsive is
automatically activated. Because of this immune response the success rates for these implanted
embryos is less than 10% (Riddle). Therefore, more than 90% of all implanted hosts will suffer
from a miscarriage. This could lead to dangerous complications for this animal, in severe cases
death. Another issue lies with the cloned animal itself, a large amount of these clones are born with
obvious physical deformities, gigantism, or do not have fully developed crucial organs such as the
heart or lungs (Riddle). Child birth is difficult enough, but now by adding gigantism to the equation,
the statistics for a successful

Odysseus
Odysseus В– A Different Type of Hero
The Homeric epic, the Odyssey, is set in the peaceful years following the Trojan War, and
concerns the returning heroes on their journeys home, in particular Odysseus of Ithaca. Odysseus
is an epic hero; he displays courage, superior strength, and leadership, all qualities that people
admire. While displaying these archetypal heroic traits he also displays his weaknesses as a man,
particularly his excessive pride, which actually make him easy to relate to. So by demonstrating
his strengths, and overcoming his weaknesses he becomes an epic hero, not only in Homer s time
but in the 21st century as well. Yet these archetypal heroic qualities are not his only heroic qualities,

As other Kyklopes rush to see what the screaming is all about they are told by Polyphemos that:
Nohbdy, Nohbdy s tricked me. Nohbdy s ruined me! (Homer IX 426). When morning comes,
Odysseus and his men escape from the cave by clinging to the bellies of the Kyklops sheep. This
carefully constructed plan of tricking the Kyklops, inflicting severe pain to this more dominant
adversary, and the ingenuity of the final escape clearly demonstrate the epic heroic qualities and
the cunning and shrewdness of Odysseus. When Odysseus reaches his homeland he is initially
unsure of where he is. He is approached by Athena, in disguise, but displays his own cunning to
outwit the goddess by concealing his identity from her until he is able to find out who she is and
where he is. Whoever gets around you must be sharp and guileful as a snake; even a god might
bow to you in ways of dissimulation. You! You chameleon! Bottomless bag of tricks! Here in your
own country would you not give your stratagems a rest or stop spellbinding for an instant? (Homer

After discovering where he was, and what had been going on in his absence, Odysseus eventually
sheds his disguise and shows himself to Telemakhos. He outlines his plan of how to launch a

WORLD MUSIC CHAPTER 5 1. Why does the Indian classical tradition dominate the musical
image of South Asia in the west? The classical music of India has gained most of the attention of
outsiders probably due to the colonization era that has brought Indo European invaders (Aryan
Civilization) into their territory between 2000 and 1500 BCE due to the presence of rich resources.
However, Indian music, unlike the communal music of Africa and Southeast Asia, is individual and
often virtuosic and can be both vocal and instrumental. The Hindustani one (North) is more
appealing to the Western society as it is more instrumental based, whereas the Carnatic (south) one
is more vocally oriented. Another factor that attracts the Western attention... Show more content on

styles of singing and performing in Hindustani music. Each style of school is called a gharana .
The number of ragas used in Carnatic music is more when compared to the fewer ragas used in
Hindustani music. It is interesting to note that Carnatic music is characterized by the presence of
72 melakarta raga scheme. Each of the 72 principal ragas is divided into several subordinate ragas.
Both the types of music differ in terms of the instruments used in the playing of music as well.
While both types of music use instruments such as violin and flute, Hindustani music extensively
employs the use of Tabla (a kind of drum or a percussion instrument), Sarangi (a stringed

For set design, the next aspect of meaning in a film is the design of the sets. The color, shape and
angles of a set can be a very important way of communicating, not only meanings, but also
emotional or psychological states of mind to the viewer. In the matrix everything is filled with
green, it seems like the camera is also covered with a green tinted lens. This can then divide a
clear vision difference for the audiences between the actual real world and the matrix. In fact, the
actual real world is linked with the matrix and in some ways they relate with connection. The
matrix, for some reason is evil to the human. Therefore, when things become evil, the color of
green is also involving inside as green itself is representing the matrix. When Smith is trying to kill
Neo, there are green flames surrounding around them. However, green the actual meaning in
psychology refers to safety, health, nature and life. This suggests that if the machines are neither
evil nor self indulgent, the one who carry out the program are Merovingian and Smith. Green
therefore, its meaning in here is seen as virtual as it is different from the original meaning, but the
color of it is seen as real.

In the book Black Skin, White Mask written by Frantz Fanon, the author analyzes the black
community under the rule of the white dominated culture. The book is a mixture of
psychoanalysis and personal experiences drawn from his personal life. While he was living in

A Tale Of Two Cities And The French Revolution
A Tale of Two Cities, was a story about sacrifice and revenge before and during revolutionary
France. Charles Dickens thought that if things did not change, then a violent revolution in England,
similar to the French Revolution, was possible or in the future. In A Tale of Two Cities , Charles
Dickens symbolizes the discord that the English and the French faced as he tears apart the two
systems of their society.
Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Citiesin order to
describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest
occurring in England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it
takes place is before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence
of a rapid change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government
was functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the
rich aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickens went further. He conveys
the idea of the French revolution through the use of social reform along with its inevitable impact
on the individuals affected by the waves of change. Throughout history, the road to revolution is
described as an obsession to the minority group such as the American revolution in the late 18th
century. It is dangerous when a group goes down this road because the obstacle up ahead

the labor variances which showed the cost, while favorable, was a difference of $1.00 per hour.
Further, the efficiency was unfavorable, indicating that production required an additional 3,000
hours over budget, which could be the result of staff training, faulty equipment, or low quality
materials (Direct labor efficiency variance explanation, formula, example, reasons. 2016). Since
there appears to be a lower cost of labor than anticipated, but higher materials and hourly utilization

The violence that he creates with fight club is libertarian in a sense that it is out of the way,
between two consenting adults, but also a throwback to ritual combat. One man runs as a `chief
figure who announces and enforces the rules fight club. During one scene, Jack takes note of this
and compares the chanting of the crowd to a Pentecostal service, the crowd speaking in tongues.
With the condemnation of many of society s more violent activities, i.e., boxing, action films, et
cetera, fight club s slippery slope argument that men want violence in their lives seems to make
sense. Something IS missing in our lives, something that has always been there but is disappearing
as the decline of western civilization continues. Tyler addresses this problem on the public bus,

emasculation of the male is placed on capitalism.

Citizens have been misled to think alike to change the way of society and the world. A more
familiar example to many would be the influence artifice had in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union
back in World War Two and other wars before that. Unfortunate citizens have been exposed to the
power of artifice by tyrants to keep the war effort going. Propaganda was used in almost every
nation undergoing war. The United Stateshave also taken part in this to help resist despicable
nations from rising. The effects afterwards were shown to be drastic. It s obvious to see the
effects the second world war has done to society. Hate groups grow like tumors in the general

Racial Hygiene And The Victims Of Medical Experiments
Each year, about 2.7 million shelter animals are euthanized, simply because they have nowhere to
call home . We humans seem to think we can determine which lives are worthy, or unworthy, of life.
Similarly, Hitler believed he had the right to determine which lives were worthy of living. During
the Holocaust, it is estimated that about 6 million Jews were euthanized because he deemed them
as undeserving of life. Included within that estimation are the victims of medical experiments,
which physicians imposed on them without consent. People in positions of power determined who
were worthy of continuing to live, with what we now consider basic human rights, and those
unworthy were euthanized or used in medical experimentation. By simply understanding the
expansive amount of pain and sufferingthese unworthy individuals went through, you will
understand why it is imperative that we teach this dark point in human history and make sure it is
never repeated.
In the early twentieth century, a popular idea known as racial hygiene played a prominent role in
creating a division between races. The German government created a set of policies that dictated
which individuals were worthy and unworthy of reproducing, in the hopes of obtaining more
desirable qualities, based on these ideas. In 1933, the German government started a series of forced
sterilizations, without consent. Robert Jay Lifton writes that a group of individuals deemed
hereditarily sick were the main targets.

throughout the area and are used for soccer, baseball, softball, and other sports (NATC, 3).
Tennis courts are present in residential areas, and surrounding pathways are used for walking,
jogging, and biking (NATC, 3). A popular walking trail is the Marina View Park walkway along
Oracle Parkway (Graham and Fairclough 2014, 1). The Pacific Athletic Club is located close to
the wetlands. For a membership fee, residents can use the amenities at this facility, which
includes a fitness center and a pool (NATC, 3). The Bay Trail is a recreational hotspot, which
loops around the Redwood Shores peninsula (NATC, 6). The Bay Trail provides outdoor
recreation for hikers, joggers, bicyclists and skaters through its multi use paths, dirt trails, bike
lanes, and sidewalks and city streets that are designated as bike lanes (San Francisco Bay Trail).
The Bay Trail also allows for wildlife viewing opportunities, and is optimal for bird watching. The
lagoons and channels of Redwood Shores have undergone positive measures to make them more
attractive to wildlife (Rycenga 2012, 1). Radio Road is a favorite among birders for the

A Argument On Imperialism
Imperialism is the practice of powerful nations attempting to acquire control over lesser nations;
typically, imperialism revolves around expanding or upholding influence. Historically, in The
United States, an imperialistic mindset is perceivable in the popular concept of manifest destiny.
Again, in 1823, The United Statesseeks to exude international influence in publishing The Monroe
Doctrine. Later, the document is used as reasoning to invade territories. Evidently, the mindsets of
many Americans was intertwined with imperialism. The idea of growing a continental nation
expanded into international affairs. With The United States becoming involved in over seas
empires, imperialism became a topic of controversy. Arguments for expansion included... Show

Carnegie s ideas centered on the importance of internal advances. Roosevelt, who was a
supporter of imperialism, even stated, a nation s first duty is within its own borders. Carnegie
questioned whether America, Is . . . to exchange internal growth and advancement for the
development of external possessions which can never be really hers? The argument largely
centered on upholding the quality of life in America. Accordingly, Carnegie wrote, The luxuries
of the masses in other lands are the necessaries of life in ours. By avoiding the lure of
imperialism, (America is) impregnable against serious attack, and can focus on its own internal
advancement. Twain s argument against imperialism differs strongly from the ideas of Carnegie.
Twain views imperialism as contradictory to America s core values. The Anti Imperialist League
uses democracy, or the concept of people holding the power, to assert, that a government derives
its just powers from the consent of the governed. Twain claims, There must be two Americas: one
that sets the captive free, and one that takes a once captive s new freedom away from him. Like
the Anti Imperialist League, Twain believes imperialism infringes upon the rights America claims
to give individuals. America, according to Twain, kills him to get his land. The act of conquering
nations removes the power from the people; America has no consent to govern foreigners. Being
an imperialistic power, in reference to Twain, debauched America s honor and blackened her face

The Abolition Of The Civil War
During the mid 1800s, the issue of slavery and its expansion had become a major controversial
element of American history, resulting in the transpiration of the Civil War. Between the years of
1861 and 1865, conflict between the North and South had emerged, causing bloodshed at America s
most dominant period of history. Throughout the year 1861, intense conflict between the North and
South over issues of states liberties, federal power, westward expansion, and slavery had impelled
the Civil War. By the end of war, the Civil War had proved to be the most disastrous war known to
American existence. During war, antislavery movements had transpired, as abolitionists strived to
develop the emancipation of slaves and became ambitious to prohibit intolerance and
prejudice.During the 1830s, abolitionists and advocates of antislavery had strongly aspired to
develop the abolishment and prohibition of slavery. As the struggle for abolition and antislavery
had commenced, the aspiration for the abolishment of slavery had gained success, flourishing
during the era of the Civil War. Following the abolition and antislavery movement, the Women s
Rights Movement had also become a dominant aspect of the Civil War. During the nineteenth
century, aspiring women had become ambitious to sustain rights and liberties for themselves.
Women s efforts which had been contributed to the abolition movement had become a major aspect
of the women s rights movement, as their efforts had played a dominant

Social Construction Of Childhood In The Middle Ages
Through looking on different cultures it seems that childhood is definitely a social construction.
But a better way of trying to find out if it is or not is through looking back in time. Until the end
of the Middle Ages, children in the West were often seen as miniature versions of adult. Their
clothes and their bodily proportions were the same as those of adults. The main reason why they
were classed as miniature adults was because they were expected to participate in all aspects of
social life alongside their parents. Special protection and treatment did not exist at this time.
Children could be punished and frequently were, for social transgressions with the same severity
that adults were.
Families of the 1600s and 1700s may have valued children for their role in inheritance, but children
clearly didn t cause the same kind of sentiment that they cause from adults today.
(Aries, 1962). This rather unsentimental treatment of children was probably something to o with
demographic realities such as fatal disease. In the Middle Ages ... Show more content on

They were seen as innocent and in need of protection, the same as we see them today. Consequently,
tough they were viewed as weak and vulnerable. Along with the notion of protection came the
notion of discipline, as parents taught their children to avoid any temptations of their social world.
Social institutions have influenced definitions of childhood throughout history. Until the late 18th
century, fro instance, child labour was commonly practiced and accepted (Archer, 1985). Still is
in some cultures. In the early 19th century, half of all workers in northern factories were children,
all under the age of just eleven (Coontz, 1992). Children worked as long and as hard as adults,
sometimes even harder. Due to their small size, they were sometimes given difficult and hazardous
jobs, such as cleaning out the insides of narrow factory

Anne Moody s Coming Of Age Essay
HIST278 Essay One Joseph Malthus, 42863655
Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi is a story of a black girl growing up in the American
Deep South during the development of the Civil Rights Movement. Moody notices the racism that
envelops her life and attempts to understand why it exists, despite the absence of reasonable
grounding. Suffocating under the restrictions and fear caused by systematic racism, she ultimately
decides to become an activist, and takes an active role in demanding equality and a better life for
Black Americans.
Moody s childhood was riddled with incidents where white people imposed their superiority and
control over her and other blacks. She sought to understand why American society was
structured this way. Moody first begins thinking about this after she is forced away from her
friends in a segregated cinema. While her friends were allowed to sit in the main atrium to watch
the film, Moody and her family were forced to use a separate entrance and sit behind them on a
balcony. Moody noticed that her friends whiteness meant they were treated better, but at her age
she could not understand why their skin tone made them better than her: why their whiteness
provided them with a pass to downstairs in that nice section and [her] blackness sent [her] to the
balcony .1 She became determined to discover what made whites more deserving of better homes
and schools compared to those which blacks were consigned to. Moody did not see skin tone as a

The Collective Bargaining Process Of The Uaw
This report represents the analysis of the collective bargaining process of the UAW (known as the
CAW today) and GM (General Motors), presented in the film The Final Offer , 1985. Canada and
the United States were part of the negotiations with General motors to reconcile a bargaining
settlement in 1984. There was a compromise among labor and management that resulted to strike
throughout months of the negotiation process. Craig as well as Hebdon and Brown have framed 3
hypotheses that will concentrate on the economic situation, the consequences of strike, in addition
to, the community interests during bargaining and negotiations. The factors mentioned have been
founded by categorizing the actors, diverse environments, outputs and the conversion mechanisms.
Prior to analyzing the 3 hypotheses we should define the main actors that were a part of the
negotiations. Management part included Rod Andrew (Canadian GM negotiator) and Roger B
Smith (United States GM negotiator). Labor part included Owen Bieber (UAW agent), Buzz
Hargrove and Bob Nickerson (UAWC deputies), as well as, Robert White (UAWC director). Also,
the votes that powerfully counted were the Canadian plant legislators, therefore, based on that we
count them as actors. During 4 nerve wrecking months, there were comprehensive negotiations and
discussions among the management and labor to achieve a sensible understanding agreement
between the parties. The strike made an impact on the agreement, which made a great

Analysis Of My Dietary Intake
Analysis of My Dietary Intake
Mingyang Hou
Queens University
10211370
From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise
known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake
should be 15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will
analyze the reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet.
Looking at my daily intake, I realize I have only been consuming one third of what I should be
having of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant serving as one of the body s main defences
against oxidative damage. Since vitamin E is helpful at preventing free radical damage, not eating

In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E.
Since most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process
(for example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of
eating vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in
Vitamin E, and they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me
with most of the vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0
mg of it and 1 teaspoon of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin
E, if I have salad twice a day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I
am not getting enough is because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all
have the grain germ removed during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of
vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown
rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake. Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin
E, by introducing them into my diet I will make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for
snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they only contribute to a small amount, it will make up
for days where intakes are

Transculturation in Our Sister Killyjoy and Nervous...
Transculturation in Our Sister Killyjoy and Nervous Conditions
Postcolonial insights include theories of Diaspora, cultural hybridity and transculturation. The
latter, transculturation is the term used to define cultural change induced by introduction of
elements of a foreign culture. [1] The term transculturation was first coined by
Cuban anthropologist and sociologist Fernando Ortiz in 1947 to describe the phenomenon of
merging and converging cultures.
Transculturation covers war, ethnic conflict, racism and multiculturalism, hence it is a concept very
relevant to the postcolonial period and subsequently to postcolonial literature. When
transculturation affects ethnicity the term ethnoconvergence comes into being and ... Show more

The title Nervous Conditions comes from Jean Paul Satre s introduction to Franz Fanon s book
about the psychosocial effects of colonization The Wretched of the Earth where he says that the
condition of the native is a nervous condition.[2] Dangarembga clearly means to foreground gender
as the category which determines
African women s lives and keeps them natives in relation to the dominant and controlling power
structure. Nervous conditions could also be interpreted as a metaphor for those internalized
definitions of femaleness that shape, from within women s private and public lives. [3] The
African women in the novel face racism, sexism and oppression in their community while
navigating their lives within the margins of both traditional and Western colonial cultures. Tambu s
early self admired her educated aunt, pitied her mother who suffered from being female and poor
and uneducated and black. [4] As Dangarembga s plot shifts from Tambu s individual rise to
collective effort with all her female relatives and friends, she acknowledges If 1 forget them, my
cousin, my mother, my friends, 1 might as well forget myself. [5] In recording these women s
resistance to the patriarchy, Dangarembga suggests that the strongest, most resilient females are not
the women educated and liberated in the West and privileged within their

Freedom Vs Freedom Essay
In class it was discussed if people were not afraid of getting a bad grade they would not study or
come to class. I believe this is true. Without this fear, people would take classes and never study or
learn anything. If we took away the tickets for speeding was also discussed in class. If they were to
disappear people would drive however they wanted without any regard to others. The roads would
not be safe for people. This is another example of why we need this fearof consequence. I never
thought about grade and studying and respecting the street signs were a fear until it was talked
about in class. I just thought about it as rules to follow so we could avoid disaster. Because, of
this discussion I began to think about if we are a fear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates what we call classism and racism. That in turn creates even more fear and division
in the group. With these smaller groups, it is easy to keep power and continue a fear based
society. The biggest example is after 9 11 when the American government created an enemy
with the Muslims. They labeled them all as terrorists because they wanted to invade the Middle
East for oil. This was one of the only ways to get the people to fall in line and label an entire
group of people as something they are not. Just because a small amount of people who were
members of the religion doesn t make the entire following bad. Those people created a fear for
people to not wish to go out of their houses, and if they saw someone covering their head, they
would be afraid of a bomb. Many people started to hide what should have been freedom to
practice as they pleased, keeping people doing exactly what is expected. Should the state really
take charge of this freedom? We may think that our current society is liberticidal, in the sense
that it replaces our consciousness. It embodies freedom, while we must not forget that man is
endowed with free will. That means man as a whole is capable of doing the absolutely worse
things to others and is very able to impede upon someone else s freedom. But on the other hand,
without the few or what was once called the ruling class of society, we would have anarchy as
society, which we

Two non Western countries that have been impacted by globalization are India and China. Western culture has had an impact on traditional Chinese society. The West s impact can be seen in the advertisement of Western products, acceptance of Western business, and change of thought to accept Western ideals. Examples of this include the prevalence of foreign companies in the country like McDonalds, Nike, and Marriott. A change in ideals was expressed by Jaffe (2012) who wrote that while living in China she noticed that foreign advertisements often featured Western models. Curious about this she asked her Chinese friends about it. They explained that by Chinese standards big eyes, fair skin, and a pronounced nose was thought to be beautiful. Western influence in China seems to only be influencing major cities with villages only being influenced by globalization when it is forced upon them like it was during the 2008 Olympics when one town was displaced so that Olympic facilities could be built (Ames, n.d.). Some would also suggest that the influence of Western media through the use of the internet, or American media had led to a loss of their traditional language as the people begin to speak chi English (Chang, n.d.). From all of this is plain to see that globalization can have positive and negative effects upon a society, but a country that refuses to open its doors to the world face economic stagnation and poverty for its people. • 5. The Evolution Of A Gentleman Madison Woolley PHIL 2010 Sec 07 05 Dec. 2016 WC: 1430 The Evolution of a Gentleman Confucianism is based off of many diverse concepts, some of which are the junzi and the xiaoren. These terms have been widely interpreted throughout time, and make up most of this concept. In order to understand Confucianism, one must first understand the significance of these two notions. A junzi (gentleman) and xiaoren (small man) are very important aspects of Confucianism and have distinct meanings, qualities, and modern day societal attributes. While a junzi (gentleman) is defined one way by Confucius, a xiaoren (small man) would be considered the contrary. As defined by Confucius, a gentleman is an individual who lives by a moral code, not motivated by gain, but by what is right. A small man is the complete opposite. A small man is an individual who lives to benefit and for selfish reasons. Confucius states that gentlemen lead others through their actions demonstrated through: When gentlemen perform well, all their duties to their relations, the people are inspired to virtue (Chichung).1 Gentlemen are very selfless, unlike small men, and strive to be better men and better citizens. People in turn strive to be like a gentleman. In early interpretations, a gentleman was viewed as inherently superior to a small man and seen as a prince. The later interpretation translated it, not as a ruler, but as a moral person who leads by his actions and honor. Society is built up by gentlemen and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is impaired ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize the insulin produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a meal. Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest morbidity rates globally. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1 million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014. The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most significant among the middle and low income countries. This has mostly been explained by the changes in income distribution in those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have had an increase of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries. • 14. The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the society. People in the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked to help them, but saw it as a satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially acceptable for people to seek for advice or help from witches, it was taboo for witches to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other beliefs that went against the Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often unable to receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the acts of torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political turmoil, the Trial of Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much concerned with the truth, but rather convicted these women because of their marginalized role in society caused by social disposition. Furthermore, it can be suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire about magic, the law heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that Tempel Anneke displays the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female figure that was perceived as a burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke was a widower who lost her husband who during the Thirty Years War and depended on her son s financial assistance. Furthermore, she was informally trained by her mother as a naturopathic healer and used her healing skills to help cure people and animals in her community by using herbs and other plants. Anneke had not been accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for medicinal purposes on a regular basis until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful magic she was accused of employing that led to fear and resentment towards her. Lastly, society s perceptions of women during the time furthered their inability to prove their innocence through a fair trial. It was a widely held belief that women were of weak understanding, and are hence more likely to be ensnared by the lies and illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). The same study showed that by increasing the minimum wage by only 5.1% to $15.25 an additional 77,800 people would be affected and it would cost the Government $22.82million dollars annually. According to the 2016 Minimum WageReview, again conducted by MBIE, after the minimum wage was set to $15.25, if they were to increase the minimum wage to $19.25 (still below the recommended living wage of $20.20) approximately 28,000 people would lose their jobs and there would be an increased cost of approximately $543.55million dollars annually. When Bruce Tuckman presented his initial theory for group development in 1965, he couldn t have possibly imagined a world dotted with virtual teams. Tuckman s framework for evaluating teamwork using the stages of forming, storming, norming and performing was created after a study of a variety of face to face teams. As a testimony to his work, it is generally accepted that Tuckman s premise about groups experiencing definitive stages toward formation, also applies to groups of people who don t share physical space and span time zones. There is some thought that the storming stage is integrated into the other stages or skipped entirely. (Berry, 2011). The lack of defined storming might be due to virtual teams having more of a task versus personality orientation and having a well defined communication plan also serving as a proactive conflict management measure. Also, there is a shared opinion that well planned formation activities are critically important for a virtual team. At the top of the list is training on the technology and related communication systems to be used. (Berry, 2011). Human beings have a responsibility to act morally just, not causing any being unnecessary pain and suffering. Which is exactly what animal cloning has been causing these animals. To better understand how these animals are suffering, one needs to have a better understanding on how the natural reproduction process works. Genes from both hosts are transferred in random order to the new cell. Each specific allele or trait has a specific place on the stand of DNA, this assures everything need to create another being is represented. The female body then provides nutrition and safety for the growing being. If the cell has errors in the new DNA, or the host body cannot provide adequate support for the developing embryo then the body naturally aborts the embryo. With cloning only one set of DNA is being transferred into the egg, which provides the exact replica of the already established being. But this embryo is then planted into a different host body to provide nutrition and safety as it is developing. The problem with this is that the embryo is foreign to the host body. Just like foreign germs entering into the body, an immune responsive is automatically activated. Because of this immune response the success rates for these implanted embryos is less than 10% (Riddle). Therefore, more than 90% of all implanted hosts will suffer from a miscarriage. This could lead to dangerous complications for this animal, in severe cases death. Another issue lies with the cloned animal itself, a large amount of these clones are born with obvious physical deformities, gigantism, or do not have fully developed crucial organs such as the heart or lungs (Riddle). • 23. Chapter 5 Essay WORLD MUSIC CHAPTER 5 1. Why does the Indian classical tradition dominate the musical image of South Asia in the west? The classical music of India has gained most of the attention of outsiders probably due to the colonization era that has brought Indo European invaders (Aryan Civilization) into their territory between 2000 and 1500 BCE due to the presence of rich resources. However, Indian music, unlike the communal music of Africa and Southeast Asia, is individual and often virtuosic and can be both vocal and instrumental. The Hindustani one (North) is more appealing to the Western society as it is more instrumental based, whereas the Carnatic (south) one is more vocally oriented. In the matrix everything is filled with green, it seems like the camera is also covered with a green tinted lens. This can then divide a clear vision difference for the audiences between the actual real world and the matrix. In fact, the actual real world is linked with the matrix and in some ways they relate with connection. The matrix, for some reason is evil to the human. Therefore, when things become evil, the color of green is also involving inside as green itself is representing the matrix. When Smith is trying to kill Neo, there are green flames surrounding around them. However, green the actual meaning in psychology refers to safety, health, nature and life. Charles Dickens thought that if things did not change, then a violent revolution in England, similar to the French Revolution, was possible or in the future. In A Tale of Two Cities , Charles Dickens symbolizes the discord that the English and the French faced as he tears apart the two systems of their society. Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Citiesin order to describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest occurring in England. But a better way of trying to find out if it is or not is through looking back in time. Until the end of the Middle Ages, children in the West were often seen as miniature versions of adult. Their clothes and their bodily proportions were the same as those of adults. The main reason why they were classed as miniature adults was because they were expected to participate in all aspects of social life alongside their parents. Special protection and treatment did not exist at this time. Children could be punished and frequently were, for social transgressions with the same severity that adults were. Families of the 1600s and 1700s may have valued children for their role in inheritance, but children clearly didn t cause the same kind of sentiment that they cause from adults today. (Aries, 1962). While her friends were allowed to sit in the main atrium to watch the film, Moody and her family were forced to use a separate entrance and sit behind them on a balcony. Moody noticed that her friends whiteness meant they were treated better, but at her age she could not understand why their skin tone made them better than her: why their whiteness provided them with a pass to downstairs in that nice section and [her] blackness sent [her] to the balcony .1 She became determined to discover what made whites more deserving of better homes and schools compared to those which blacks were consigned to. • 42. The Collective Bargaining Process Of The Uaw This report represents the analysis of the collective bargaining process of the UAW (known as the CAW today) and GM (General Motors), presented in the film The Final Offer , 1985. Canada and the United States were part of the negotiations with General motors to reconcile a bargaining settlement in 1984. There was a compromise among labor and management that resulted to strike throughout months of the negotiation process. Craig as well as Hebdon and Brown have framed 3 hypotheses that will concentrate on the economic situation, the consequences of strike, in addition to, the community interests during bargaining and negotiations. The factors mentioned have been founded by categorizing the actors, diverse environments, outputs and the conversion mechanisms. Prior to analyzing the 3 hypotheses we should define the main actors that were a part of the negotiations. Management part included Rod Andrew (Canadian GM negotiator) and Roger B Smith (United States GM negotiator). Labor part included Owen Bieber (UAW agent), Buzz Hargrove and Bob Nickerson (UAWC deputies), as well as, Robert White (UAWC director). Also, the votes that powerfully counted were the Canadian plant legislators, therefore, based on that we count them as actors. During 4 nerve wrecking months, there were comprehensive negotiations and discussions among the management and labor to achieve a sensible understanding agreement between the parties. The strike made an impact on the agreement, which made a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis Of My Dietary Intake Analysis of My Dietary Intake Mingyang Hou Queens University 10211370 From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake should be 15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will analyze the reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet. Looking at my daily intake, I realize I have only been consuming one third of what I should be having of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant serving as one of the body s main defences against oxidative damage. Since vitamin E is helpful at preventing free radical damage, not eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E. Since most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake. Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they only contribute to a small amount, it will make up for days where intakes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Transculturation in Our Sister Killyjoy and Nervous... Transculturation in Our Sister Killyjoy and Nervous Conditions Postcolonial insights include theories of Diaspora, cultural hybridity and transculturation. The latter, transculturation is the term used to define cultural change induced by introduction of elements of a foreign culture. [1] The term transculturation was first coined by Cuban anthropologist and sociologist Fernando Ortiz in 1947 to describe the phenomenon of merging and converging cultures. Transculturation covers war, ethnic conflict, racism and multiculturalism, hence it is a concept very relevant to the postcolonial period and subsequently to postcolonial literature. When transculturation affects ethnicity the term ethnoconvergence comes into being and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title Nervous Conditions comes from Jean Paul Satre s introduction to Franz Fanon s book about the psychosocial effects of colonization The Wretched of the Earth where he says that the condition of the native is a nervous condition.[2] Dangarembga clearly means to foreground gender as the category which determines African women s lives and keeps them natives in relation to the dominant and controlling power structure. Nervous conditions could also be interpreted as a metaphor for those internalized definitions of femaleness that shape, from within women s private and public lives. [3] The African women in the novel face racism, sexism and oppression in their community while navigating their lives within the margins of both traditional and Western colonial cultures. Tambu s early self admired her educated aunt, pitied her mother who suffered from being female and poor and uneducated and black. [4] As Dangarembga s plot shifts from Tambu s individual rise to collective effort with all her female relatives and friends, she acknowledges If 1 forget them, my cousin, my mother, my friends, 1 might as well forget myself. [5] In recording these women s resistance to the patriarchy, Dangarembga suggests that the strongest, most resilient females are not the women educated and liberated in the West and privileged within their ... • 45. Freedom Vs Freedom Essay In class it was discussed if people were not afraid of getting a bad grade they would not study or come to class. I believe this is true. Without this fear, people would take classes and never study or learn anything. If we took away the tickets for speeding was also discussed in class. If they were to disappear people would drive however they wanted without any regard to others. The roads would not be safe for people. This is another example of why we need this fearof consequence. I never thought about grade and studying and respecting the street signs were a fear until it was talked about in class. I just thought about it as rules to follow so we could avoid disaster. Because, of this discussion I began to think about if we are a fear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This creates what we call classism and racism. That in turn creates even more fear and division in the group. With these smaller groups, it is easy to keep power and continue a fear based society. The biggest example is after 9 11 when the American government created an enemy with the Muslims. They labeled them all as terrorists because they wanted to invade the Middle East for oil. This was one of the only ways to get the people to fall in line and label an entire group of people as something they are not. Just because a small amount of people who were members of the religion doesn t make the entire following bad. Those people created a fear for people to not wish to go out of their houses, and if they saw someone covering their head, they would be afraid of a bomb. Many people started to hide what should have been freedom to practice as they pleased, keeping people doing exactly what is expected. Should the state really take charge of this freedom? We may think that our current society is liberticidal, in the sense that it replaces our consciousness. It embodies freedom, while we must not forget that man is endowed with free will. That means man as a whole is capable of doing the absolutely worse things to others and is very able to impede upon someone else s freedom. But on the other hand, without the few or what was once called the ruling class of society, we would have anarchy as society, which we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
