you should be thinking of nautical gifts as a solution for your gift giving requirements for them. It
seems the ideas for gifts are unbounded when it comes to a boating theme. When probing for a great

Concert Chamber Music Analysis
The concert Chamber Music by Two, Three and Four was made up of three different pieces. Each of
the three pieces were composed by, in order, W. A. Mozart, M. Ravel, and J. Brahms. Performing the
pieces were Alicia Eppinga on the cello, Barbara Corbato on the viola, Mark Clinton on the piano, and
Mihai Craioveanu on violin. These musicians performed sub sections within the pieces known as
movements, which brought their own sense of individuality to the piece while still creating a sense of
unity across the board.
The first piece consisted of piano, violin, and cello. In each of the movements, there were different
musical contexts and styles that lead to the creation of a story the different phases of life. As the entire
piece progressed, the tonality shifted from being very light hearted, energetic, and happy in the first
movement, to a calmer more relaxing mood in the second, to a more tense and high strung character in
the last. There were more noteworthy characteristics of the piece other than the shifts in tone. For
example, the piano seemed to remain the dominant instrument throughout the whole piece while the
violin and the cello accented it and added depth to the different movements creating a homophonic
texture. Throughout the second movement, the violin and cello mimicked the melodies of the piano
quite a bit as well. Tempos also varied according to the movement, contributing to their tones. Allegro
in the first and last movements created the upbeat and intense

Dispositional Inference In Research Paper
Humans are social thinkers, and therefore, have actions that are influenced by their social situations.
Social cognition is how people select, interpret, judge, and store the information they receive from
others. Basically, we remember the information we deem important and that means something to us,
and use shortcuts to fill in the rest. We utilize these shortcuts to conserve mental effort, to save time
and thought, and to manage our self image.
One shortcut many individuals use is going off of our current expectations, which can sometimes lead
to holding stereotypes (Trope Thompson, 1997) (Kenrick 76). For example, when I went tailgating
freshman year, I did this without even realizing it. Although I didn t know the fraternity boys who ...

For instance, one weekend I witnessed an acquaintance get into a fight downtown. The thoughts of
people seeing this probably ranged from thinking this individual was aggressive, to thinking he was a
victim. However, knowing this individual as an aggressive, confident guy, I simply made an inference
that he started the fight. Surprisingly enough, to me at least, he said that it was the other guy who
started the fight, and others agreed. This is an epitome of the correspondence bias improperly using
dispositional inferences. This can also be seen in a study by Edward Jones and Victor Harris, 1967.
The study participants read essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro, and were told that the
writers either chose their stance, or were forced to take it. You would think that the participants would
judge the individuals who got to choose their side as more strongly biased than those who were simply
given a stance. However, the study participants actually paid little attention to their situations, and
deemed those who were given a side as strongly biased as well (Kenrick 78).
Galen Bodenhausen showed in his experiments (1990) that someone who is considered a morning
person is more likely to use cognitive shortcuts at night, and vice versa. Being a morning person, I can
definitely see this apply in my life. I tend to be exhausted when nighttime comes, so I use shortcuts to
to save as much energy as possible. Since I ve been aware of this, I ve taken note of it, and try to be
more mindful of these shortcuts at night. I also try and push myself to study in the day instead of
night, as this is when my brain is the most active and more likely to soak up the

The Classic Remember The Titans By Boaz Yakin
Boaz Yakin s timeless classic Remember The Titans, is a story that encompasses and explores many
empathetic topics such as friendship, sport, racism, teenagehood, rivalry and leadership. The film is
based on a true story about a ruthless high school American football team named The Titans. It was set
in the American Confederate state, Virginia during 1971... A year which spawned the ruling out of the
colour based school segregation system in Virginia and a year which spawned the beginning of a new
era of racism, hate and separation for its inhabitants. The movie follows the football team and how
they inspired the town to shred its colour barrier and come together on their journey to their winning
of the state championship. This would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of when he donned his coaching cape was towards the beginning of the movie when he
said to Coach Yoast, I came here to coach the G.W. I didn t ask the schools to re district and I didn t
ask to be assigned to your staff, so I guess we re both in a situation we don t want to be in. But I can
guarantee you this coach. I come to win. This is a great display of his passion for football, winning
and his coach like aura that he emanates so well with his words. Another role he takes on is a teacher.
He becomes a teacher, off the football pitch when he decided to help Louie Lastic boost his marks, so
that he would be eligible to go to college at the end of the year. He helped Louie outside of training
and tutored him so that he could pass. This is not necessary for a coach to do, since it is more than
what he is required to do and yet he did it anyway. This demonstrates that he cared about individual
team members as well as the whole team and that falls well in hand next to his coaching methods.
Coach Boone s coaching method was intense and authoritarian like. There are many ways of coaching
a sporting team or sportsman, but Coach Boone s motto was undeniably, This is the line. Say goodbye
to it now because we aren t just crossing the line. We going far away from it. He pushed his players to
both their physical and mental breaking point that even his assistant coach questioned his ways. There
was a point in the movie that showed this pretty well and

Kojeve s Metaphors
ANSWER Q 1
1. Explain Kojeve s metaphor of overcoming the Slavish mentality of given being as compared to the
master s being for itself. Select a passage from Kojeve s text and from Coates text and explain how the
two passages relate to each other by demonstrating this overcoming as metaphor and the over coming.
Coats passage an example of the overcoming process that Kojeve writes about in In Place Of
Introduction.
The my reading of Kojeve s text IN PLACE OF INTRODUCTION , I noticed that in the Slavery and
Mastery systems, the first beginnings of the social life of man are based on power, which means that
society is based on strength and it takes the ideal philosophy as a general trait, the power is only the

What is tragic ... in this situation, writes Kojeve, is acknowledgment here unilateral, for it [the Master]
does not recognize the human reality and the dignity of the slave. Therefore, it is recognized by
someone He does not recognize . Thus, in a decidedly Marxist way, Kojeve suggests that Man,
complete and absolutely free, definitely and completely satisfied with what he is, the perfect man,
completed by this satisfaction, will be the slave who has overcome his slavery. If the Inactive Mastery
is a stalemate, laborious. Slavery, on the other hand, is the source of all human, social and historical
progress. History is the story of the working slave.
An advantage that the slave has the Master lies in the fact that he knows the value and reality of
autonomy of human freedom; While he cannot experience this value, as he sees it only by recognizing
the other as such, the aspiration to overcome, to replace the relation, is there for the Slave. Besides,
writes Kojeve, the experience of the struggle which made him a slave predisposes him to the
autonomous act, to the negation of himself (negation of his given I, who is a slave) . Another
advantage for the slave exists in his ability to:
transform the world given by his work ; Therefore, he goes beyond himself, and goes beyond the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bill Bryson s A Walk In The Woods
Bill Bryson, author of A Walk in the Woods , writes of his experience on the Appalachian trail. In my
particular passage, Bryson talks about the bears on the Appalachian trail and he talks a lot about them
to emphasize the deaths they have caused on the trail and how unpredictable they are, which is why he
had doubts on walking the trail. His main purpose is to get the reader to gain an understanding about
bears and where his fear of them derives from. Bill Bryson uses imagery, ethos, and rhetorical
questions to express his feelings about bears while also informing the reader about bears. Bryson uses
imagery that creates a tense, terrifying mood to illustrate the scene of a bear attacking your camp.
Imagine, if you will, lying in the dark alone in a little tent, nothing but a few microns of trembling
nylon between you and the chill night air, listening to a 400 pound bear moving around your campsite.
Imagine it s quiet grunts and mysterious snufflings...the sounds of moist gnawings, the pad of its feet
and the heaviness of its breath... He uses imagery so the reader can get a sense of where he s coming
from about being away from civilization on a trail, and a bear raiding your camp while you re
sleeping. We know where is fear is coming from and can now relate to it. ... Show more content on

increased by 25 percent. The Times article also noted that bears are far more likely to attack humans in

An Article On Food Assistance Programs
Before We SNAP Food assistance programs in the United States have always generated a lot of debate
among citizens, congress, and the media. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, the truth is that
this program is designed to help those in need. According to an article in the Washington Post, Brad
Plumer states that there are at least 47 million people who collect Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program aide (Plumer), otherwise known as SNAP, from the government. These people are collecting
this in order to survive; however the United States government has targeted SNAP in order to cut
down on the national debt. Robert Rector believes that this reform is much needed and should have
been done sooner, but Dottie Rosenbaum argues that this benefit is a necessity in the United States.
Many people often think of the negative side effects of collecting this aid, and how the bad outweighs
the good. Robert Rector is a senior researcher for Heritage.org, and believes that SNAP needs to be
reformed for the good of the nation. Robert Rector also played a vital role in the 1996 welfare
reformation legislation. Throughout his service to his country he has earned the nickname as an
intellectual godfather when it comes to welfare reform. In his article he covers the negative side
effects of being on SNAP, discusses the benefits of reforming the program, and covers the possible
outcomes if it is reformed. He argues that if it is reformed it will adversely affect the dependency

Safety Razor Vs Straight Razor Research Paper
A common question from new and experienced shavers a like is Which is better, a safety razor or a
straight razor? Both of these have their own unique advantages and disadvantages so the answer is not
so clear cut. Each person s skin, lifestyle and time constraints are different so the answer will be
different from individual to individual. By considering certain key points you can make sure you
select the best type for you.
Straight razors can bring back a feeling of nostalgia and offer a traditional shaving experience. It
somehow feels right and manlier something that safety razors do not offer. This traditional experience
requires full immersion and is normally a lot more time consuming than using a safety razor. You need

They are, however, a lot more convenient to use. Their main benefit is that you can just pick it up and

The shave is quick and super convenient. Despite this, you can still get a quality shave; although it
won t be as close as a shave from an experienced straight razor user. Their ease of use is the reason
that they are the most popular form of razor today (although they commonly come in a disposable
cartridge form).
If you enjoy the act of shaving and love traditional experiences, then providing you have the time to
learn to use one a straight razor would be the better option. The long term cost effectiveness and the
quality of the shave is unbeatable. If you just need to remove hair from you face quickly and

Bay Area Rapid Transit ( Bart ) System
Bay Area Rapid Transit(BART) system provides residents in Bay Area with convenient and rapid
transportation service among nine counties [1]. After the concept of BART was born in late 1940, the
BART board of directors was created in 1957 which had 12 members and controlled the whole BART
project. They entitled a consortium of 3 engineering companies Parsons, Brinkerhoff Tudor Bechtel
(PBTB) to direct the construction of BART which began about 1963 [4]. BART system tried to apply
many innovative technologies that had never been used in other commuter system, and one of them
was the Automated Train Control (ATC) System, which was entitled to the Westinghouse Electric
Corporation with a 26 million dollar contract to design, install and tune the whole ATC system [3][4].
From 1969 to early 1971, three engineers whose work were related to different aspects of ATC
expressed their concerns about the way the ATC system was being developed to their management.
Holger Hjortsvang, a systems engineer, and Max Blankenze, a programmer analyst, criticized that the
development of ATC was lack of supervision from Both BART board and PBTB. At the same time,
Robert Bruder, an electrical engineer criticized the non professional way the ATC system was
designed and installed, and the unrealistic opening schedule [4]. After a long waiting without any
significant response from their managers to their concerns, they decided to take actions and reported
the issues directly to a BART board member with

products can prove to be beneficial for them. Thus the message that is conveyed through the
advertising appeals influences the purchasing decisions of the consumers. It persuades people to

The Importance Of Human Rights
Human Rights
Making a fearless advance in children s rights, Mother Jones led a valiant march to defend human
rights, because of her love of children, and Cesar Chavez and Aminatou Haidar stood up for causes
that they experienced themselves. Cesar Chavez created the UFW to improve the lives of migrant farm
workers, and Aminatou Haidar staged a series of nonviolent protests to encourage the independence of
Western Sahara. Mother Jones enacted change when she drew national attention to the harsh working
conditions of children working in textile and mill factories. This is supported when Josephson states,
They would march the mill children all the way to the president of the United States Theodore
Roosevelt. Mother Jones wanted the president to get Congress to pass a law that would take children
out of the mills, mines, and factories, and put them in school. This shows Mother Jones s
determination to change society and improve human rights. She faced many challenges, such as the
disapproval of her belief and speeches. Also during her march, many people gave up and went home,
so her crowd looked weaker. She also faced the rejection of her proposed law that would stop children
from working in dangerous places at young ages by the president. Secret service officers thought she
was a threat to the president (Josephson). Even though she faced rejection, she still made an impact on
children s rights and she helped shape the world for how it is today. It is important to defend

The implementation of technology allows teachers to use differentiated instruction in order to meet the
needs of all the students in the classroom. The interactive white board is a great example of how all

Also, I believe with repeated use of the iPod, his fluency and silent reading speed will increase. When
he tested on the book he showed that this method was successful for him because he scored a 100 on
the Accelerated Reader assessment. If more teachers would implement using the iPod with reluctant
readers and allow them to experience some success then they maybe more inclined to branch out on
their own to become independent readers. Textbooks are only as up to date as the day they leave the
printer. Think of the millions of dollars that could be saved on textbooks if students were issued
laptops and textbooks were converted to ebooks. As ebooks, the text could be updated daily and
students could have access to up to date information at their fingertips at all times, instead of the
traditional textbooks that are now in schools which can be as old as 5 7 years old.
In order for the implementation of technology to be effective in our school, a great deal of planning
must take place. For core curriculum planning to successfully embrace technology, writers need to be
made aware to tech issues such as: If the computers are networked to file storage drives, printers, and
the Internet; If accounts/passwords need to be established; How scheduling of lab time and equipment
is handled; If support help is available; What type of software applications or websites are available or

Analysis of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own Essay
Analysis of Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own
Throughout history, female artists have not been strangers to harsh criticism regarding their artistic
works. Some female artists are fortunate to even receive such criticism; many have not achieved
success in sharing their works with the world. In Virgina Woolf s third chapter of her essay A Room of
One s Own, Woolf addresses the plight of the woman writer, specifically during the Elizabethan time
period of England. Woolf helps the reader appreciate her view on how stifling and difficult this time
period was for women and how what little creativity emerged would have been distorted in some way.
Through a number of claims, examples and other literary techniques, Woolf is able to ... Show more

Woolf contends that she is on the track of a lost novelist, a suppressed poet, of some mute and
inglorious Jane Austen or Emily Bronte who.......mowed about the highways crazed with the torture
that her gift put her to (53). Woolf uses many historical and literary examples such as Jane Austen and
Emily Bronte numerous times in her work to contrast the fame and fortune of successful authors, with
the unknown lives of ghost writers.
Woolf supports this claim by focusing on the anonymous writer named Anon (anonymous), that we as
readers have seen so many times in literature. Could this Anon have been a woman, this Anon that has
written so many poems and ballads? From Woolf s point of view, whatever she had written would
have been twisted and deformed, issuing from a strained and morbid imagination (54). She does not
reach a conclusion as to the lack of women writers before the 18th century, she can only make
assumptions on the time period and enlighten her audience to make sure that women are able to
express their creativity without any constraints issued by society.
The reader can tell that Woolf feels very strongly about the mistreatment of women in the past, which
often makes for an effective argument. Her strong

The Psychological Effects of Prisons Essay
The Psychological Effects of Prisons
I have visited some of the best and the worst prisons and have never seen signs of coddling, but I have
seen the terrible results of the boredom and frustration of empty hours and pointless existence
former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger
If recent incarceration rates remain unchanged, an estimated 1 out of every 20 persons (5.1%) will
serve time in a prison during their lifetime.

One of the largest problems with the prison issue in America today is that it gets little attention. Unlike
education, pollution or gun control people are usually not concerned enough to get involved with the

This study represents a parallel to the behavior found in incarcerated humans. Jails cause the same
psychological side effects as prisons, to a smaller degree, in the effects of being en caged, however,
the overall standard of living in jails is much higher. There is a decent relationship between the guards
and the jailers. The jailers are allowed to interact with the same people on their block between
lockdown times. Lock down is when the jailers are confined to their cells, usually at night and for a
short while in the day, during a change of shift. This method allows inmates to play cards, watch TV
together and at very least walk around something else besides their cell. The prison system, however,
usually remains in lockdown all the time, although they can speak to each other, they usually can t see
each other without a mirror. Observing these two methods, and what little problems there are in jails
as opposed to prisons leads me to believe that if you treat a human being like a human being they will
act like a human being. If you lock them in a cage all day they may as well act like an animal. (Prison
Activist Resource Center, 1 3) People sometimes argue this case stating that the offenses committed
by jailers are less serious than by prisoners and that prisons are more hostile because they house the
more serious offenders. These people forget that jails hold people before they are

Roma Culture Research Paper
Abstract
This paper explore the Roma culture with focus on women s health practices. Roma also referred to as
Rom, Rroma, Romani and gypsies are people traveled across the Middle East and Europe, with some
later settling in the United States. Known for their nomadic lifestyle, they are often marginalized and
discriminated against. Roma have strong cultural beliefs with many focusing on the importance of
family and purity. Many aspects of pregnancy are considered impure and shameful. Many women do
not have appropriate prenatal care. The lack of appropriate care coupled with unhealthy lifestyle
choices associated with the Roma can lead to a myriad of pregnancy complications. The Roma culture
is very specific and it is important to provide culturally competent care. This paper helps focus on
aspects to provide better care for this unique culture.

Pregnancy is considered an unclean time during a woman s life because of the belief that the lower
half of the body is shameful and source of pollution. Prenatal care is neglected, and women learn from
other women in their camp about pregnancy and childbirth. Mothers are generally young and look up
to the older women for support and education. Pregnant women must not prepare food and shouldn t
sleep in the same bed as their husband. Sometimes women will untie knots and wear their hair loose to
ensure that there will be no problems with the umbilical

Meditation Not Medication
Meditation Not Medication Suicide from depression medication is becoming an issue. Antidepressants
should help you cope with your depression, not make you want to end your life. Most antidepressants
do not have the right kinds of effects on the prescription buyers. They have serious risks and side
effects but the users feel no different, if anything they feel worse. A risk on the medication is the
increase of suicidal thoughts. I have personally experienced the risk of increased suicidal thoughts. In
my personal experience antidepressants are ineffective and can do more harm than good.
Research shows antidepressants do not work and can actually harm you. Killing yourself from the side
effects is something that americans are prescribed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having depression since middle school, I have always had issues coping and keeping my emotions
under control. In high school I finally got the help I thought I needed. Going to my doctor and having
her prescribe me pills that, I hoped would help, made me feel like I was finally in control of my
sadness. Depression makes you feel hopeless, unworthy of life, and many other emotions. You feel as
if you are never good enough and you would be better off if you just ended your sad story of a life.
Once I started taking my daily dosage of the medication I noticed that they were not working. My
doctor gave me higher dosages in hopes I would start feeling them work.
I noticed the pills affecting me but not in the way I had wished for. I felt as if I was blank and
emotionless. The pills made me feel dull and the actually made my depression worse. My personality
had vanished and I could no longer be myself. I have had multiple people come up to me and tell me
that I am a drag and that I bring down everyone in the room. They do not realize how much that hurts
someone who is battling themselves every moment they are awake. I have tried the medication, the
therapy, and staying positive but they have never been enough for my darkening

Some mental health professionals believe that TMS may offer a treatment options with fewer potential
side effects, allow patients to remain in remission longer, and be more cost effective.
Electroconvulsive Therapy Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is procedure that involves deliberately
inducing a generalized seizure by passing small electrical currents directly through the brain. The
patient is placed under general anesthesia and given a muscle relaxant. Two electrodes are placed on
either side of the scalp and then the brain is stimulated with a series of brief electrical pulses in order
to induce the seizure, which last approximately one minute. The patient awakens five to ten minutes
after the ECT treatment (https://www.psychiatry.org/patients families/ect).
History of Electroconvulsive Therapy Scientists and professionals in the medical community have
long recognized that head trauma, convulsions, and high fevers could be good for improving mental
disturbances. In fact, Hippocrates noted that malaria induced convulsions were able to cure insane
patients. In the Middle Ages, some physicians observed the same phenomenon in

Bradley, K. (2012). Juvenile delinquency and the public sphere: exploring local and national discourse
in England, c . 1940 69. Social History, 37(1), pp.19 35.
This article explores juvenile delinquency and the public sphere by looking at local and national
discourse in England from the 1940 to 1969. Bradley, in discussing juvenile delinquency and the
public sphere argues that the fears of juvenile delinquency should be treated as a historical
phenomenon. The article touches upon Pearson s book, with Bradley arguing that anxieties about the
behaviour of the poorest young have a powerful presence in the British public sphere, and goes on

exploring this, Goldson draws upon the work of other authors on female violence (Susan A. Batchelor;

discussion around what Pearson discusses in his book to quite some extent, making a great source to

Patterns from the Food-Shed Map Essay
Collecting data for the food shed map was an interesting experience because I noticed several patterns
in my map. These patterns also helped me realize a few things about the production of my food. I
realized that the zip code on the box was not usually an accurate representation of where my food
came from the distance it traveled. Before I began collecting zip codes of where some of my food
came from I expected most of the food to be from all over the country. However, I was surprised when
a lot of my food came from mainly the East Coast (New York and New Jersey) as well as the West
Coast (California). When the zip codes were shown on a map, I noticed that almost none of my food

They stated that Barilla was an Italian company that produced pasta in both Italy and the United States
depending on the product being sold. In their frequently asked questions page I realized that address of
where the pasta came from was also the location of their corporate office.
I realized that the address on the package does not necessarily indicate where my food actually came
from unless it was a fruit or vegetable. Processed foods might be made in a certain factory but the
ingredients used to make Oreos or Kraft Mac and Cheese are not listed on the box. The zip codes on
the boxes indicated how far the factory or company headquarters were located but not were the actual
raw materials for the food came from. A box of chocolates from New York does not list where the
cocoa beans used to make the chocolate were grown. Furthermore, the tomatoes from my marinara
sauce did not necessarily grow in the area where the sauce was produced. The ingredients for the
products are grown in different parts of the country/world then brought to one of the factories and then
the food is created, packaged, and shipped off to stores. The labels on the boxes list the ingredients but

Moreover, I noticed that a lot of my organic food came from California most notably around the San

How Children Learn Language
HOW CHILDREN LEARN LANGUAGE

1. OVERVIEW
The exact way in which millions of developing children get to the point where they can produce and
understand millions of words and make sentences out of it is the subject of a heated debate in the
psycholinguistic field. According to Saxton (2010,p.18), the study on how children learn language can
be traced back to the German biologist, Tiedermann, in 1787. However, up until the late 1950 s, it is
generally agreed that approach to child language research is at best haphazardly organized. Research
for example was often limited to a generally informal observations (for example research done by

This time, the rat only received food if it pressed the bar a certain number of times. After initial
confusion, it learned to do this also (Aitchison,2008,pp.8 9). This type of learning is called operant
conditioning by Skinner which can be translated as training by means of voluntary responses (the
word operant means a voluntary response rather than an automatic one) and Skinner suggested that a
vast majority of human learning take place via this mode, including learning of
language(,Aitchison,2008,p.9). In his book Verbal Behaviour, Skinner argued that child efforts to
speak are rewarded by parents. Each time the child produces an utterances that comes close to
sounding like an acceptable word or sentence, the parent offers a reward in the form of praise or
encouragement. As this conditioning goes on, the closer the child gets to the adult model of utterance
the more parental rewards that he/she gets. Thus, the operant conditioning relies on the learner
producing a linguistic behaviour that is progressively shaped through rewards, until the desired
behaviour is achieved (Saxton,2010,p.90). Skinner s explanation of language acquisition soon inspired
a critique and rival explanation from Noam Chomsky. Chomsky argued in some detail that
mechanisms such as stimulus, response and reinforcement which are favoured by the behaviourists are
not sufficient to explain verbal bahaviour. In this regard, Chomsky pivotal

Pinto Seed Germination
1. The hypothesis of this lab was, If the pinto beans are in constant light, then the number of seeds
germinated will increase faster. Based on our data, we found that our hypothesis was wrong. Our data
didn t support our hypothesis, but it does support why our hypothesis was wrong. The most important
data that supports this is the fact that 3 seeds under no light germinated and 1 seed under constant light
germinated. (We re not going to look at constant light right now, because that as our control group.)
Our hypotheses states that we thought more seed under constant light were going to germinate than
seeds under no light. The number of seeds germinated is the most important piece of data because it is
the Dependent variable, it s what we are trying to measure, or figure out.
2. Question: How does the amount of light a pinto seed gets affect seed germination? Answer: I
learned that pinto seeds will germinate faster if they are exposed to less light. The less light that the
seed absorbs, the faster it will germinate.
3. For the most part, the design of our experiment was pretty good. One weakness I think we had was
our constant. I think we would have had a better constant if the seeds in the Natural Light category
were actually outside, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way I would have furthered the experiment is observing the seeds for longer. By doing this, we
could see how the growth of a pinto seed changes the needs of the seeds. This means that if we left the

seed matures into a plant, other factors come into play. We haven t learned about his yet, and my
knowledge is limited on this subject, but, photosynthesis is something that comes into play for green
plants. I know it involves sunlight. My question is, would the plant, after the stages of germination, be
able to survive without light? I infer that the answers no, and I m curious to see if I m

  • 3. Concert Chamber Music Analysis The concert Chamber Music by Two, Three and Four was made up of three different pieces. Each of the three pieces were composed by, in order, W. A. Mozart, M. Ravel, and J. Brahms. Performing the pieces were Alicia Eppinga on the cello, Barbara Corbato on the viola, Mark Clinton on the piano, and Mihai Craioveanu on violin. These musicians performed sub sections within the pieces known as movements, which brought their own sense of individuality to the piece while still creating a sense of unity across the board. The first piece consisted of piano, violin, and cello. In each of the movements, there were different musical contexts and styles that lead to the creation of a story the different phases of life. As the entire piece progressed, the tonality shifted from being very light hearted, energetic, and happy in the first movement, to a calmer more relaxing mood in the second, to a more tense and high strung character in the last. There were more noteworthy characteristics of the piece other than the shifts in tone. For example, the piano seemed to remain the dominant instrument throughout the whole piece while the violin and the cello accented it and added depth to the different movements creating a homophonic texture. Throughout the second movement, the violin and cello mimicked the melodies of the piano quite a bit as well. Tempos also varied according to the movement, contributing to their tones. Allegro in the first and last movements created the upbeat and intense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dispositional Inference In Research Paper Humans are social thinkers, and therefore, have actions that are influenced by their social situations. Social cognition is how people select, interpret, judge, and store the information they receive from others. Basically, we remember the information we deem important and that means something to us, and use shortcuts to fill in the rest. We utilize these shortcuts to conserve mental effort, to save time and thought, and to manage our self image. One shortcut many individuals use is going off of our current expectations, which can sometimes lead to holding stereotypes (Trope Thompson, 1997) (Kenrick 76). For example, when I went tailgating freshman year, I did this without even realizing it. Although I didn t know the fraternity boys who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, one weekend I witnessed an acquaintance get into a fight downtown. The thoughts of people seeing this probably ranged from thinking this individual was aggressive, to thinking he was a victim. However, knowing this individual as an aggressive, confident guy, I simply made an inference that he started the fight. Surprisingly enough, to me at least, he said that it was the other guy who started the fight, and others agreed. This is an epitome of the correspondence bias improperly using dispositional inferences. This can also be seen in a study by Edward Jones and Victor Harris, 1967. The study participants read essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro, and were told that the writers either chose their stance, or were forced to take it. You would think that the participants would judge the individuals who got to choose their side as more strongly biased than those who were simply given a stance. However, the study participants actually paid little attention to their situations, and deemed those who were given a side as strongly biased as well (Kenrick 78). Galen Bodenhausen showed in his experiments (1990) that someone who is considered a morning person is more likely to use cognitive shortcuts at night, and vice versa. Being a morning person, I can definitely see this apply in my life. I tend to be exhausted when nighttime comes, so I use shortcuts to to save as much energy as possible. Since I ve been aware of this, I ve taken note of it, and try to be more mindful of these shortcuts at night. I also try and push myself to study in the day instead of night, as this is when my brain is the most active and more likely to soak up the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Classic Remember The Titans By Boaz Yakin Boaz Yakin s timeless classic Remember The Titans, is a story that encompasses and explores many empathetic topics such as friendship, sport, racism, teenagehood, rivalry and leadership. The film is based on a true story about a ruthless high school American football team named The Titans. It was set in the American Confederate state, Virginia during 1971... I didn t ask the schools to re district and I didn t ask to be assigned to your staff, so I guess we re both in a situation we don t want to be in. But I can guarantee you this coach. I come to win. This is a great display of his passion for football, winning and his coach like aura that he emanates so well with his words. Another role he takes on is a teacher. He becomes a teacher, off the football pitch when he decided to help Louie Lastic boost his marks, so that he would be eligible to go to college at the end of the year. He helped Louie outside of training and tutored him so that he could pass. This is not necessary for a coach to do, since it is more than what he is required to do and yet he did it anyway. This demonstrates that he cared about individual team members as well as the whole team and that falls well in hand next to his coaching methods. Coach Boone s coaching method was intense and authoritarian like. There are many ways of coaching a sporting team or sportsman, but Coach Boone s motto was undeniably, This is the line. Say goodbye to it now because we aren t just crossing the line. We going far away from it. He pushed his players to both their physical and mental breaking point that even his assistant coach questioned his ways. There was a point in the movie that showed this pretty well and ... What is tragic ... in this situation, writes Kojeve, is acknowledgment here unilateral, for it [the Master] does not recognize the human reality and the dignity of the slave. Therefore, it is recognized by someone He does not recognize . Thus, in a decidedly Marxist way, Kojeve suggests that Man, complete and absolutely free, definitely and completely satisfied with what he is, the perfect man, completed by this satisfaction, will be the slave who has overcome his slavery. If the Inactive Mastery is a stalemate, laborious. Slavery, on the other hand, is the source of all human, social and historical progress. History is the story of the working slave. An advantage that the slave has the Master lies in the fact that he knows the value and reality of autonomy of human freedom; While he cannot experience this value, as he sees it only by recognizing the other as such, the aspiration to overcome, to replace the relation, is there for the Slave. Besides, writes Kojeve, the experience of the struggle which made him a slave predisposes him to the autonomous act, to the negation of himself (negation of his given I, who is a slave) . Another advantage for the slave exists in his ability to: transform the world given by his work ; Therefore, he goes beyond himself, and goes beyond the Master ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Rhetorical Analysis Of Bill Bryson s A Walk In The Woods Bill Bryson, author of A Walk in the Woods , writes of his experience on the Appalachian trail. In my particular passage, Bryson talks about the bears on the Appalachian trail and he talks a lot about them to emphasize the deaths they have caused on the trail and how unpredictable they are, which is why he had doubts on walking the trail. His main purpose is to get the reader to gain an understanding about bears and where his fear of them derives from. Bill Bryson uses imagery, ethos, and rhetorical questions to express his feelings about bears while also informing the reader about bears. Bryson uses imagery that creates a tense, terrifying mood to illustrate the scene of a bear attacking your camp. Imagine, if you will, lying in the dark alone in a little tent, nothing but a few microns of trembling nylon between you and the chill night air, listening to a 400 pound bear moving around your campsite. Imagine it s quiet grunts and mysterious snufflings...the sounds of moist gnawings, the pad of its feet and the heaviness of its breath... • 9. An Article On Food Assistance Programs Before We SNAP Food assistance programs in the United States have always generated a lot of debate among citizens, congress, and the media. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, the truth is that this program is designed to help those in need. According to an article in the Washington Post, Brad Plumer states that there are at least 47 million people who collect Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program aide (Plumer), otherwise known as SNAP, from the government. These people are collecting this in order to survive; however the United States government has targeted SNAP in order to cut down on the national debt. Robert Rector believes that this reform is much needed and should have been done sooner, but Dottie Rosenbaum argues that this benefit is a necessity in the United States. Many people often think of the negative side effects of collecting this aid, and how the bad outweighs the good. Robert Rector is a senior researcher for Heritage.org, and believes that SNAP needs to be reformed for the good of the nation. Robert Rector also played a vital role in the 1996 welfare reformation legislation. Throughout his service to his country he has earned the nickname as an intellectual godfather when it comes to welfare reform. Their ease of use is the reason that they are the most popular form of razor today (although they commonly come in a disposable cartridge form). • 12. Bay Area Rapid Transit ( Bart ) System Bay Area Rapid Transit(BART) system provides residents in Bay Area with convenient and rapid transportation service among nine counties [1]. After the concept of BART was born in late 1940, the BART board of directors was created in 1957 which had 12 members and controlled the whole BART project. They entitled a consortium of 3 engineering companies Parsons, Brinkerhoff Tudor Bechtel (PBTB) to direct the construction of BART which began about 1963 [4]. BART system tried to apply many innovative technologies that had never been used in other commuter system, and one of them was the Automated Train Control (ATC) System, which was entitled to the Westinghouse Electric Corporation with a 26 million dollar contract to design, install and tune the whole ATC system [3][4]. From 1969 to early 1971, three engineers whose work were related to different aspects of ATC expressed their concerns about the way the ATC system was being developed to their management. Holger Hjortsvang, a systems engineer, and Max Blankenze, a programmer analyst, criticized that the development of ATC was lack of supervision from Both BART board and PBTB. At the same time, Robert Bruder, an electrical engineer criticized the non professional way the ATC system was designed and installed, and the unrealistic opening schedule [4]. Jails cause the same psychological side effects as prisons, to a smaller degree, in the effects of being en caged, however, the overall standard of living in jails is much higher. There is a decent relationship between the guards and the jailers. The jailers are allowed to interact with the same people on their block between lockdown times. Lock down is when the jailers are confined to their cells, usually at night and for a short while in the day, during a change of shift. This method allows inmates to play cards, watch TV together and at very least walk around something else besides their cell. This type of learning is called operant conditioning by Skinner which can be translated as training by means of voluntary responses (the word operant means a voluntary response rather than an automatic one) and Skinner suggested that a vast majority of human learning take place via this mode, including learning of language(,Aitchison,2008,p.9). In his book Verbal Behaviour, Skinner argued that child efforts to speak are rewarded by parents. Each time the child produces an utterances that comes close to sounding like an acceptable word or sentence, the parent offers a reward in the form of praise or encouragement. As this conditioning goes on, the closer the child gets to the adult model of utterance the more parental rewards that he/she gets. Thus, the operant conditioning relies on the learner producing a linguistic behaviour that is progressively shaped through rewards, until the desired behaviour is achieved (Saxton,2010,p.90). Skinner s explanation of language acquisition soon inspired a critique and rival explanation from Noam Chomsky. Chomsky argued in some detail that mechanisms such as stimulus, response and reinforcement which are favoured by the behaviourists are not sufficient to explain verbal bahaviour.
