Gentrification Of The Downtown Corridors
Literature Review
Gentrification in the city:
Rauch (1993), Crihfield and Panggaben (1995), Glaser et al (1995), Simon (1998), Simon and
Nardinelli (2002) and Glaser and Saiz( 2004) address human capital as impacting the economic
performance of the area and is also identified as the main determinant of growth in metropolitan
areas. Crihfield and Panggabean (1995) include four points of production function: labor, private
physical capital, public infrastructure capital, and human capital. The researchers analyzed race,
amenities, growth, geography as well as public capital investment to ascertain the large impact
human capital has on the growth of the city, and in the case study of Atlanta, this growth impacts the
revitalization of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith views gentrification as a negative thing, and a product of political economic shifts in local
and global markets (Smith pp.92) . He notes that this revanchist or French for Revenge city theme
aggressively re claims the city and tries to re infuse the city with middle class morals, standards
and costs. Gentrification also experiences a pattern of what many note as consumption in which
those with the sweat equity such as the LGBT community but some such as Rose (1984)
suggested that first wave gentrifiers were of small means, but were able to carve out spaces and
enclaves of sage space based on sweat equity Smith (1996) reintroduces the notion of the rent gap in
gentrification. Knopp (1987) mentions the increase in rents and the inability for pioneer gentrifiers
in the gay community to keep up with the increase in taxes and home prices.
Knopp (1990) analyzes the significance of gays in the gentrification process in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He finds that are three sets of events that present catalysts for neighborhood
transformation; the transformation included gay men, specifically white gay men who were active
in the community and also developers of the neighborhood. Knopp concluded that, ...the class
interests of those who treat land as a financial asset can be facilitated by forming cross cultural and
cross class alliances with gay communities ( p.337). Knopp (1990) also believed that the male
dominance of the community development helped to create a

False Recognition Vs False Memory
We remember what we understand; we understand only what we pay attention to; we pay attention
to what we want, is a famous memory quote stated by an actor, Edward Bolles. Memory is a broad
term that reflects different processing abilities on how humans encode, store and retrieves
information. There are numerous domains in the human s memoryability with the storage and
retrieval of short term and long term information. For many centuries, theorist has tested recall and
recognition capabilities on the human s memory functions. Memory retention is our ability to retain
experiences based on the mental process, through the organization of information through meaning,
where relations between new information is associated with the previously stored... Show more

The results indicated that the recognition test had accuracy hits than false recognition, whereas,
the recall test had a higher range of false recall. As a result, false memories could be created
during the recall. Prior memory consumption with a long interval break over time can affect one
s performance. A study was performed on the long term recall and recognition of past learned
material. The results showed higher memory retention in earlier years and decrease retention
after 3 years (Noice Noice, 2002). Brand names are known to influence memory responses.
Lerman and Garbarino (2002) research compared words versus nonwords, relevant versus
irrelevant words, and words cueing an advertised attribute versus words cueing unadvertised
attribute. They found recall was significantly higher for words brands names and words related to
advertised attributes were higher in the recall group. In addition, the recognition accuracy was
higher for non words than word names and higher for irrelevant words. Rare word and attachment
to common words can affect one s memory performance. Dewhurst, Brandt, ND Sharp (2004) study
found rare words have an advantage over common words in recognition

Essay on The Collapse of the Greenland Norse
In Jared Diamond s novel Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed he discusses many
civilizations that moved away from their homelands, grew in population, and then either failed or
succeeded in their new environments. Throughout this essay I will attempt to explain the Collapse
of the Greenland Norse, one of the many societies to rise and fall. The Greenland Norse faced
multiple challenges including economical, agricultural, and unfriendly neighbors. Alongside
Greenland other North Atlantic islands faced geographical challenges that lead to some of their
falls as well. Yet, first I will discuss why the Norse left Scandinaviain search of new terrain.

195). Next in line are the Faeroes which lies in mild oceanic climates, but has a shorter growing
season than Orkneys and Shetland Island (Collapse pg. 196). On top of that, the Faeroes were also
known to be wet, foggy, and rainy for over two hundred days out of the year. Perhaps the largest
island other then Greenland itself, was Iceland which was made out of volcanic fire, ice, water,
and wind laying on the Mid Atlantic Ridge. Now that we ve talked about the challenges faced on
the smaller North Atlantic islands, let s go over the problems faced on Greenland by the Norse.
Greenland agriculture was so minimal that most native Norse never saw wheat, bread, or beer
made from barley in their lifetime. In fact, if the Norse did grow any crops, they would have
made only an extremely minor contribution to the diet. Probably just as an occasional luxury food
for a few chiefs and clergy (Collapse pg. 227). As far as the Greenland Norse economy went it was
vital that they were able to work together for the greater good of the whole community. On page
(235) of Collapse it states, Different Greenland locations produced different things, such that people
at different locations depended on each other for the things that they did not produce. Clearly that
sentence shows how interlinked Greenland Norse society was at the time. Unfortunately for the
Norse even though they were a strong society and interlinked closely

Josef Mengele s Research
Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands
of concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of
them all was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners
with physical abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits
such as eye colour, obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of
existence. This interest stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to
the extreme violation and sterilization of undesirable groups . (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84)

One of the main issues is whether or not it is ethically sound to use the results of the medical
research that the Nazi s conducted during World War II; there is much debate on this topic, with
some saying that the research should not be used because most of the experiments were not well
designed, which would result in data that is valueless. Others argue that although the data may have
value, it is not ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained.
(Skolnik, 2016, p. 84). Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is
the need for some type of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices
taking place all over the world; although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and
although the vast majority of researchers would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such
as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any experiments and procedures that they wish, the
consequences could be terrible. Research cannot be carried out unchecked; there have to be ethical
guidelines in place and these guidelines have to be enforced in some

Disadvantages Of Moulding Essay
4.2.4 Advantages of Liquid Silicone Rubber Moulding
Here are several problems that might face with other materials, which would not with LSR:
By Products:
LSR does not generate by products. Its molecular structure makes it appropriate for a wide range of
applications, however, the same structure means it can t be broken apart or recycled. The superior
bonding strength between the silicon and oxygen atoms keeps the polymers from degrading under
temperatures that most thermoplastics cannot withstand.
Restrictive design:
Generally, LSR has design guidelines that are comparable to thermoplastics, but it offers more
freedom in certain areas. LSR gives designers more flexibility in the design process because the
material is more forgiving when compared to thermoplastics.
Planes:
Planes that run the same direction of the mould opening usually require some draft, which allow
milling of the mould. The mould design requires about one ... Show more content on

Part geometries can have a great deal of impact depending upon the type of moulding used. Some
work well with automation typical for horizontal LSR moulding, while others work better for the
manual operation of vertical machine moulding. Also, the complexity of the geometry plays a role
in governing the size of the mould and thus the size of the moulding machine.
How will the part be demoulded?
Design for ease of demoulding is just as important as design for moulding. Silicone has high green
tear strength: meaning that very large undercuts may be designed into a product and the parts can
be stretched over them during demoulding without permanent deformation. However, this does not
mean that any geometry may be easily removed from the mould. Silicone s tendency to adhere to
the mould steel after moulding coupled with its natural tackiness can make it quite difficult to
remove thick walled highly undercut parts. Undercuts and wall thicknesses should be carefully
chosen during the design

How Did Patterson Became An American
Frederick Douglass Patterson was born on October 10, 1901, in Washington, D.C. He was the

The Little Mermaid By Brenda Chapman And Mark Andrews From...
In the movie Brave directed by Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews from Pixar shared a similar
storyline as The Little Mermaid which was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker from
Disney, is that they both brought up the cultural and societal expectations on gender roles.
Similarly, in between the two movies Brave and The Little Mermaid, the director focussed on the
feminine aspects of how society perceives a women and expects females to fulfill their roles.
Furthermore, the overall message of both movies is that parents and children need to listen and try
to understand each other before the situation gets out of hand. Although, Princess Merida and
Princess Ariel grew up with a certain gender roleexpectations, however, they have prove society s
perception of how feminine should be perceived is wrong by showing how Ariel change for men or
how Merida declare war for independence.
In the movie Brave, Princess Merida (the daughter of the Scottish King Fergus) is very skilled in
archery; therefore, she want her talent to represent her individualism instead of as the Princess of
Scottish. Merida hates to live with the traditional image of a female role, whereas her mother

fun, and I love everything about being on the team. It values team building and highly

that I naturally pick up on quickly and/or I can work on in a fun, yet ambitious way. What makes
a good team member is someone who looks out for everyone and is there for you no matter what.
Someone who is always willing to help out the team and team mates individually as well.

The United States Faces Security Challenges
The United States faces several national security challenges. For one, it has seemingly lost its
leadership role in space activities. Other countries, such as China, are ramping up investments in
space, while NASA s budget is at a historic low as a share of the overall federal budget. Return on
investments in space technology has benefitted the civilian space program and the military alike.
U.S. military operations and intelligence collection rely on space systems and access to these

space activities. Adversaries could deduct from this report that lack of an overarching U.S. space
strategy may mean gaps in capabilities between these stakeholders. Identifying those gaps and
exploiting them is an attack of the strategy or more accurately stated, a lack of strategy. The United
States published its first National Security Space Strategy by means of an unclassified summary in
January 2011. The document contains strategic objectives, approaches and implementation
information. The strategy carries a consistent theme of partnering, collaboration and sharing of
capabilities, data, services, and technology with allies, international organizations, and commercial
firms. The relationship with partners in space is so valued that we will seek to access their
capabilities if U.S. systems are degraded or unavailable . U.S. adversaries could use this
information in many ways. They could watch for indicators of whether we are truly following the
strategy. What would it mean if an opportunity arose to partner with another nation for the sharing
of information or capabilities and the U.S. did not enter into that relationship? This information
potentially gives adversaries a space strategy to confirm or deny versus forcing them to build an
estimate of our strategy.
As pointed out in the National Security Space Strategy, the U.S. seeks to partner with commercial
firms. One of our

Women s Rites Of Passage
Introduction
Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth or a transition
from puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to christen these changes in
social status within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic in how important a change is in the
lives of the people who experience them. Status changes such as these are very important in the
eyes of their culture and the ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society
adjust to the changes that are occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can be
found in many cultures around the world is a young girls transition into womanhood. Two of the
cultures that one examined this rite in were the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of
the Amazon. With the genocide of the Native Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they
use have not been seen by outsiders. Information on any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately,
the Oglala Sioux Wichasa Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk recorded these ceremonies before his
death. In the book The Sacred Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven sacred rites of the Oglala Sioux,
one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha Lowan, preparing a young girlfor womanhood. (Black Elk,
1989). In this ceremony, the rite is performed just after the young girls first menstrual cycle. Black

Oedipus Relationship Between Hamlet and Gertrude
The Oedipal Relationship between Hamlet and Gertrude
Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Shakespeare portrays Hamlet with the same types of
behaviors and frustrations in humans that Sigmund Freud saw at a much later date. When the
relationship between Hamlet and his mother is analyzed Freud s oedipal complex theory comes to
mind.
Sigmund Freud first wrote about his theory in his book An Interpretation of Dreams in 1899.
Simply put, Freud states that it is normal for children to have sexual desires for their parent of
the opposite sex. He says that it is also normal to have feelings of hatred for the other parent that
is of the same sex as the child. Most children experience these feelings between the ages of three
and five, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that she seeks out incestuous pleasure of his bed. (3.4 . l. 90) This exploring of his
mother s carnal nature is because he is sexually concerned for her. Hamlet also makes many
allusions to beds and sex in the scene because beds are where most sexual activity occurs. An
example of this is when Hamlet says: In the rank sweat of an enseamented bed Stew d (3.4 . l. 93
96) It is possible that here Shakespeare wanted to show how Hamlet s rage brought out all his
repressed sexually desires for his mother because of Hamlet s concentration on Gertrude s sex
life. All of these words come out in Hamlet s rage because before he had repressed them. It can
be best explained by Freud when he sates the complex which is thus formed is doomed to early
repression (Freud 51) but it has a lasting influence from the unconscious. (Freud 51) It could be
concluded from a Freudian point of view that in this scene Hamlet s repressed sexual desire for his
mother surfaces due to his rage in a form of sexual allusions.
The significance of the closet scene taking place in Gertrude s bedroom is also important to look
at because the privacy and intimacy of the bedroom add a new dimension when Hamlet s and
Gertrude s relationship is examined. Bedrooms are very private and are usually places where
sexual activity takes place. Shakespeare possibly placed Hamlet and Gertrude in these

Hypothesis Testing The Boiler Room Stats
Hypothesis Testing the Boiler Room Stats According to the manager four aspects require
evaluation from the statistics gathered for the week of calls made in the boiler room. The four
aspects are the basis for the hypothesis testing; the manager s suspicions are a) the null which are
as follows:
1.Hypothesis Test One
a)Null Hypothesis Ho=u Mean sales exceeds 41.5 sales per telemarketer
b)Alternative Ha=u less than 55% receiving online training
b)Alternative Ha=u or= 55% receiving online training
3.Hypothesis Test Three
a)Null Hypothesis Ho=u Mean calls among no training is less than 145
b)Alternative Ha=u or= Mean calls among no training is 145
4.Hypothesis Test Four
a)Null Hypothesis Ho=u Mean time per call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For hypothesis test two the manager suspects less than 55% of the 100 telemarketers received
online training. Looking at the type of training data; two types of training were offered and none at
all, provides the three options. Therefore, if those receiving either group training or none at all total
more than 45 telemarketers of the 100 sales people then the alternative hypothesis is accepted
because there is sufficient evidence to support it. If the manager s suspicions are true: the null
hypothesis that states there are less than 55% of the sales force who received online training is
true then there must be sufficient evidence to support that statement. 20 of 100 callers have no
training and 30 telemarketers received group training while 50 sales people received online
training according to the Excel data sheet provided. Therefore, 50% either received no training or
group training and 50% received online training. The manager s suspicions are supported. There is
sufficient evidence to support the null hypothesis and therefore the alternative is false. With
hypothesis test three the manager states the mean amount of calls made by those with no training
is less than 145 calls per person for the week of data recorded.
To prove the null; calls are less than 145 per person for those who are listed as no training or
none, the total amount of calls for the week made by the none group are divided by the 20
telemarketers to compute the mean

Persuasive Essay On Patriots
As of February fifth, 2017, the New England Patriots have solidified their placement as the best
NFL Dynasty in the history of the National Football League. Not only does The Patriots have the
most winningest quarterback in terms of super bowl wins, but Tom Brady as New England s
quarterback has more super bowl championships won then twenty eight other professional
organizations in the NFL.
As an illustration of the superior success that the Patriots have achieved statistics to back up my
claim was gathered, New England s regular season winning percentage of .766 over these 16
seasons is the best of any team in league history in a span of at least 12 years. This statistic is
dominant, this is a feat that has not been accomplished in over fifty years. In a span of 16 years
the ability to be this explosive and in a league where teams are carefully crafted and salary caps
are created and there are infinite hoops to jump through so this is to be prevented. Unless you are
a fan of New England across much of the continental United States the Patriots are despised, Tom
Brady framed for cheating, Bill Belichick demonized for cheating and being an evil genius.

Statement of Purpose to Pursue my Masters in Masters in...
A dream acted upon by confidence becomes an ambition and that when followed with determination
defines the purpose of existence in its entirety It is with a sincere sense of gratitude towards the
opportunity given to me, I pen down this statement. Education not only expands the horizons of one
s knowledge but also simultaneously implants an insatiable desire to acquire more and more
knowledge. Knowledge is that which can enhance the strength of mind and there by expand the
intellect of man. It is that which can transcend the limits of the time and take mankind beyond those
limits to the timeless eternity. The knowledge, which science and technologyhad provided for the
mankind has always fascinated me and had left an indelible impression on my mind to envisage my
goals and aims ahead.
Goals and Aspirations To pursue higher education in Masters in Automotive by doing my masters in
an esteemed university, and thereby make a mark in the field of Automobile. My aspiration is to
acquire the wisdom from the knowledge and thereby give it back to the scientific community in
specific and mankind in general in the long run.
Academic Background My years in school, apart from providing a strong foundation in Math
and Basic Sciences, also enabled me to develop my overall personality. I have participated in
various annual training camps of NCC (National Cadet Corps) arranged by our school. I was also

Interplay Between Human Laws And Divine Laws In Antigone...
In Sophocles s Antigone, one of the central storylines situates on interplay between human laws and
divine laws. Although divine characters do not directly appear in the play, their rules and
regulations soundly affect characters behaviors. This is clear throughout the play. The expressions
of the characters in the play, as well as the thematic ending of the play that featured the realization
of King Creonover his decisions against divine laws requiring every deserving man s burial,
apparently demonstrate divines superior status to humans. However, divines are not able to reverse
the damages done by humantransgressions. In the play, divine s presence is evident. The play starts
with Antigone, malicious late king Oedipuss daughter, agonizing over the death Polynices and
Etocles, Antigone s brothers, after a bloody civil war over Oedipus s succession to her sister
Ismane. In her agony, Antigone describes the bloody civil war as the final penalty to Zeus for
Oedipus (1 10) with shame and dishonor , and Zeus is the master behind Oedipus s downfall and
the plague against her family. Since Etocles is seen as the ruler of the city, his successor Creon
decrees that no one shall bury Polynices. Loving his brother, Antigone decides to go against
Creon s decree and bury his brother, calling not burying Polynices an insult to what the gods
believe everyone deserves a proper burial (49 75). Yet, Creon also justifies his decisions based on
gods orders to make him king. For

How Hemingway Has Too Strong Opinions On Homosexuality
Hemingway has extremely strong opinions on homosexuality, which Gertrude Stein attempts to
dissuade by convincing him that those who attempt to assault young boys are not well in their
heads. While Stein attempts this, Hemingway proclaims that because homosexuality exists, you
[carry] a knife and would use it when you were in the company of tramps when you were a boy
in the days when wolves was not a slang term for men obsessed by the pursuit of women
(Hemingway 16). It seems that Hemingway does not realize that, when objectifying women, he
turns into one of the wolves of which he is so afraid. However, Hemingway maintains his fear of
homosexuality; he ridicules an effeminate homosexual named Hal, satirizes Fitzgerald s sexual
uncertainties, and professes disgust at the lesbian practices of Stein and Toklas (Kennedy 187).
Hemingway is horrified by homosexuals, because he is afraid that he will be objectified by
homosexual men just as he objectifies the women in his own life. He believes that leering after
unsuspecting partners is only okay when he is an active participant; he is just afraid of being
objectified and therefore, forced into an action against his own will. However, homosexuality
disturbs Hem, less because it involves alternate erotic practices than because it subvert his
fundamental assumptions about sex, gender, and desire (Kennedy 191). He believes that men are
only right to objectify, not to be objectified. He believes that the gender and sexual

If you were sexually abused what would be the one thing that helps you open up about your
rape? For Melinda it s her ex best friend, Rachel. In the book Speak, Melinda gets sexually
assaulted by the most popular guy in school, Andy Evans. Rachel may have been the one to open
Melinda s eyes, but she definitely did not have the intentions to help. Clueless of Melinda s rape,
she starts dating Andy Evans, and this is when Melinda realizes she has to step up and help her
lost friend from being Andy Evan s next sexual assault victim. At the vastly anticipated end of the
year party, Melinda calls the police after being raped. Rachel and Mel were just going into
highschool, so when Melinda calls the police, Rachel did not want to ruin her new high school
reputation. She leaves Mel at the party to walk home without even asking what had previously
happened to cause her into calling the authorities. With all the other kids, she thought she did it just
to get everyone in trouble. Weeks passed, and Melinda finds out Rachel is dating IT, Andy Evans.

Interview With John Nash
After spending a week with John Nash, I may have stumbled upon a central purpose of my life.
Well, not nobel Laureate John nash himself, but whenever I describe Fred, their characteristics
seem quite parallel. Fred is unique, possessing an indomitable spirit to fulfill his dreams without
fear of failure. not only is he the most brilliant young man I have ever met, he exhibits a
genuinely compassionate heart. Sadly, many people may never recognize Fred as the beautiful
individual that he is, or what he has to offer. While our society may call him chal lenged, I have
come to recognize him as an unexpected role model. For Fred, you see, is autistic. He does not
interact well with people, and is often unable to express his thoughts clearly or articulately. He
doesn t understand why people laugh at him. Yet even so, Fred is blessed with an acute sense of

growing up in a dysfunctional home, he suffered from a lack of love and patient understanding.
Still, Fred s life revolved around his relationships and mathematics. Although he has few close
friends, people are indescribably important to him, and he always treated them with sensitivity
and compassion. Unfortunately, some people including but not limited to his peers (who can
sometimes be quite cruel) are unable to set aside their prejudices long enough to see his unique
ness as the incredible gift that it is. His enthusiasm and his indomitable spirit in the face of
adversity taught me valuable lessons lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He
taught me to live for what you truly cherish, to be passionate about your dreams, and to always
smile in both the service of others and adversity. He has shown me the truest meaning of love for
others, and the ability to understand and always live for what is important. A trip that started with

The Cost Of A Large French Fry
Fries are one of the many trademark foods of McDonald s restaurants, with millions of people
flocking to their local McDonald s every day to enjoy the delectable potato side dish. The fries
are also quite cheap only costing $1.39 for a small, or $2.29 for a large at McDonald s in the
United States (not including tax), making them a very desirable purchase. However, many may
ask themselves if they are receiving an amount of fries that makes the low price actually low,
especially when looking at the almost one dollar difference between a large and small french
fry. This reasoning inspired me to investigate; I wanted to see if the higher cost of a large french
fry is justifiable. My question lead me to coming up with the idea of purchasing large and small
fries, counting the number of fries, then calculating the average cost per fry. I then hypothesized
that large fries are actually not the greatest bargain because it costs more per fry than a small. In
numeric terms, H0:L=Svs. Ha:L S 0 where L= the true mean cost per fry for a large french fry at
the Waukee location, and S= the true mean cost per fry for a small fry at the Waukee location. It
is necessary to collect raw data in order to draw conclusions, so, for this population an
observational study was used to obtain data. The collection process is actually quite simple, as
McDonald s french friesare all that are needed. However, around fifteen samples of large and small
fries is the recommended minimum number of

Informative Essay On Ice Hockey
There are many fun and exciting games in the winter Olympic. There is snowboarding, figure
skating, bobsledding, and many more sports. But one of the most exciting and intense ones is ice
hockey. Ice hockey is played by many countries and is a very popular international sport. Every
year there is a men s and women s tournament. 12 teams compete in the men s tournament and 6 in
the women s. People from all over the globe gather to watch these teams compete. So what is ice
hockey? Basically, Ice hockey is a contact sport played between two teams on an ice court. The
goal of the game is to hit a round puck into a guarded goal. Each team has six players and one
goalie on the court at one time. Each player has protective gear like helmets and pads. They also
have a hockey stick that they use to hit the puck into the goal. The goalie s gear is a little different
than the players. The goalie has very thick pads that cover his entire body, a large helmet, and a
hockey stick.
Now that you know what the objective of the game is, you should also know the rules of the game.

There are two main rules. First, players are not allowed to hit or assault each other with their
equipment. And second, they are only permitted to touch each other to a certain extent. In
addition, hockey games could contain many face offs. A face off is when the referee drops the
puck between two players that are separate teams. The two player both try to gain control of the
puck by hitting it to a teammate. In ice hockey there are also many penalties for not following the
rules such. One of the main penalties is having to play shorthanded. This happens when a player is
placed in a penalty box for a certain amount of time ranging from 2 to 10 minutes. This results in
one team only having five players on the

Voter Suppression And Voting Suppression
What is voter suppression?
The voter suppression strategy is used to influence the outcome of an election by dissuading voters
from exercising their right to vote. Voter suppression should not be comparable to campaigning
because the two differs significantly. Campaigning in its political sense is the ability to change
voter s likelihood of voting behavior to change their opinions through persuasion. Voter suppression
on the other hand attempts to reduce the number of voters by means of suppression.
History of voter suppression The United States first began to deal with the issue of voter
suppression during the Reconstruction. During Reconstruction freed slaves earned their right to
vote and hold office through the fifteenth amendment in 1870. In 1877, Democrats, known as
Dixiecrats, began to impose laws that were designed to suppress the African American vote or
better known as Jim Crow Laws. The Jim Crow voting laws required the freedmen to pass literacy
tests that they were unable to pass because of no formal education because of their status of slaves.
Many states created poll taxes, which many poor Americans, white and black, were unable to pay.
Many precincts made their voting precincts white only so that blacks would have nowhere to cast
their votes. The Jim Crow voter suppression tactics were so successful that only three percent of
African Americans in the south were registered to vote in 1940. Although African American males
were given the right to vote in

Junior Reflective Essay
Tony Robbins once said, Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible .
This essay directly correlates with that quote. Through this reflective essay, I will be
reevaluating goals that I have previously set, and showing the creation of new goals for the
future. This essay in itself will assist me in laying out these goals for myself, as well as reflecting
on what I have done this year, who I am as a learner, and where I see myself going in the future.
Throughout junior year, I have been able to better define myself. I have been able to see not
only what I value in myself, but also in others. I have realized in this past year that I value free
thinkers and independent personalities. My favorite hobbies include horseback riding, skiing,
and creating change in the world. I am not fond of working, but I have realized that it is a
necessary evil. I define myself as a hard worker and someone who enjoys working towards my
goals, as opposed to just having things handed to me in life.

Shakespeare In Modern Society
Shakespeare relevance in modern society is a highly debated topic in modern classrooms. Many
students will argue that he is old and is to confusing, others will say he s boring. Then on the other
side of the argument students argue that he has shaped the modern english language and has
changed society for the better. Whilst others are undecided, listening to both sides of the argument
and not being able to decide. In this essay both sides will be discussed; talking about quoting
shakespeare and how much we use his words and phrases everyday, how the emotions in
shakespeare s playsare still relevant in modern society and audiences still react in the way the play
intended and finally how social norms have changed and it is no longer socially acceptable with it
putting the wrong ideas into people s heads.
Everyone quotes shakespeare or uses on of his works at least once everyday. Most people don t
even realize we are doing it. Most people probably think it s greek to me (a phrase created by
shakespeare), when really it is very common In between writing poems and plays shakespeare
was creating new words and phrases to fit his plays and other works. Shakespeare almost created
a whole nother language in his time creating round 1700 words. A study has shown that people
quote shakespeare at least four times everyday, which is pretty impressive for a guy that has been

Sexual Assault In College Essay
Sexual assault among college students is a tragic incident that keeps reoccurring. There are three
predictors I believe heavily contributes to sexual assault among college students. The first
predictor is that an individual is in a college environment that promotes heavy drinking and sexual
activity while drinking. I believe this contributes to the chances of someone getting sexual
assaulted because college students in this environment might think it s the norm and feel that it is
ok because their campus pairs sexual activity with drinking. The consumption of alcohol lowers
someone s inhibition to make plausible decisions. Similarly, if a person is younger age and lower
year in school that is one predictor for sexual assaultto occur. Younger age and underclassmen risk
being taken advance of on college campuses. They can be easily lied or fooled to by
upperclassmen, especially in a relationship. Upperclassmen might convince the... Show more

Colonism In Europe
It is evident that in 16th century Europe there existed both the motivation and the means to explore
and colonize territory across the seas. As it can be said, With the dawn of the 16th century, there
came together in Europe both the motivation and the means to explore and colonize territory
across the seas. This statement is true to a large extent, especially in the areas of trade and
technology. The physical means to explore and colonize came from the advances in technology that
the Europeans had gone through, allowing them to sail far across the oceans and take over native
populations easily. The motivation, on the other hand, came from trade related reasons, such as the
desire to trade new resources, to find gold, and to find new trade routes. Without the technology or
trade at the dawn of the 16th century, there would not have been the means nor the motivation for
Europeans to explore and colonize the New World. First, the Europeans had the means to explore
and colonize the New World mainly because of their advances in technology. As Schweikart put it,
a wide range of technologies coalesced to encourage long range voyages of discovery. For example,
the Arabs development of the astrolabe helped sailors establish the sun s altitude above the horizon.
Vikings farther north introduced new methods of hull construction, allowing vessels to withstand
violent ocean storms. Sailors on the Baltic coast tinkered with larger and more controlled ship
designs. Improved ships

My Best Moments In My Life Of My Family
Do you have that special person in your life that no matter what situation you are going through
they manage to put a smile on your face? There are some people in life that makes you laugh a
little louder, smile a little bigger, and live a little better. For me, this special person happens to
be my best friend Alexia Reese. Some of my best moments in life involves her. She is so full of
laughter and joy. Her humor style is definitely one of a kind, very weird and crazy. The one time
Alexia could not stop laughing was one of the most embarrassing days of her life. She had just
applied and received an interview at her dream job in the beauty department. She was beyond
excited and nervous all at once. Alexia said The one thing that makes me truly happy other than
making people laugh is beating my face . I remember receiving over twenty phone calls from her
right before her interview that morning. We tried serval techniques trying to get her to calm
down a little. Once her name was called her stomach immediately sunk to her feet. Sitting across
from the store manager answering question after question she felt sweat dripping from her
forehead. Then he asked her Why should we hire you for this job ? Alexia was not prepared for
this question. Her mind went completely blank. The room was super quiet. Next thing you know
she let out a huge fart that sounded like a gun being fired. She finally responded, I shouldn t have
eaten McDonald s before I came here huh ? Her face was full

Effectiveness Of High Preference ( High P ) Intervention
Introduction
Noncompliant behavior in an academic setting can result in missing opportunities, falling behind in
schoolwork, missing instruction and disrupting the class. It is critical that noncompliant behavior
be decreased (Banda Kubina, 2010). This study focused on a thirteen year old middle school student
with Autism. Brad was a student who displayed academic noncompliance particularly with
mathematics tasks. Brad was fully capable of completing all of the academic demands that were
present, but showed resistance in completing missing addend math problems.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of high preference (high p)
intervention. High p intervention consisted of presenting two to three high p tasks before the
presentation of a low preference (low p) task. Preference of tasks was determined with a pre study
preference assessment.
Method
Participant The participant was Brad, a thirteen year old boy, diagnosed with Autism and
Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Brad received speech and language services once a week and
had in class paraprofessional support. The Woodcock Johnson Revised Achievement Tests (WJ R)
determined grade level performance in word identification and below grade level performance in
comprehension and problem solving. Brad s teacher requested help after identifying his need for
additional support for low p tasks. REWORD
Independent Variable The independent variable in this study was the intervention in place. This

King Claudius Research Paper
Claudius is the king of Denmark and is a powerful king by showing many different uses of the
power he took. Claudius first of all gained his power from his brother who he had killed. He has
kept the murder covered up and retains his power. Claudius also married the queen who has given
even more power to his throne. Lastly, Claudius is king of Denmark and all these actions fuels the
power set for him during the play. One of the actions he took that started Claudius rule was the
murder of Hamlets original father. The murder was covered up and not noticeable. During the
play Claudius begins to feel guilty for his actions and says, There is not rain enough in the sweet
heavens to wash it white as snow (Shakespeare 3.3.45 46). Claudius pleads for mercy and says
that he wants his sins washed. This also shows how he is now feeling guilty for hamlet s fathers
murder.
Claudius also says, O, my offence rank, it smells to heaven; It hath the primal eldest curse upon,
A brother s murder. (Shakespeare 3.3.36 39). Claudius here tells of his guilt again and to him it s
like a stain that won t go away. After killing old Hamlet, Claudius retains his power as the king.
Another way Claudius is the most powerful is after he killed hamlets father ... Show more content

Claudius earns his power just by being king. Claudius says, Now follows that you know young
Fortinbras, Holding a weak supposal of our worth... . (Shakespeare 1.2. 17 18). Claudius here

Claudius is in power and just like that he is the king over everyone. Claudius also says, O, for
two special reasons, Which may to you perhaps seem much unsinewed, But yet to me they re

as he is the king with full power. Claudius uses his power to his advantage over the other

The Case Of Ludviga Pukas
What makes someone want to make a change in the world? For some, it is a deep desire to be a
part of something bigger or better than themselves. Yet for others, it is a family connection or
interest that sparks their conscience. For example, when people are moved to do things like adopt
children, something in their heart tells them that she should be a part of something bigger in the
world. That is exactly the case for Ludviga Pukas, a domestic maid from Ukraine. It was her own
morals and faithfulness to her employer that left her to be remembered as one of the hundreds of
thousands of holocaust rescuers (Women of Valor).
In the later 1930s, Ludviga (Nina) Pukas found a job in a town then called Proskurov as a maid
with a mother, Frima Sternik, and her two children, ages four and one. She formed such a bond
with a family that even after she started her own family, she continued to stay with and work for
them. She lived with the family for a few years before the bulk of the war began. Then, on July 7,
1941, the Sternik s had their house and all their possessions burned down to the ground by Germans
(King). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They put their own lives on the line to help others being persecuted. Although there is no shortage
of rescuers, there can never be too many. Pukas shows people for generations to come her extreme
courage. This courage can inspire others to do things like adopt foster children or send money to
children with limited resources in third world countries. Her example can inspire girls like myself
for generations to come as well. Her compassion for children makes me yearn for a time when I
will be able kids. I always knew I wanted to have my own children as well as adopt some children,
much like Pukas. Reading her story only solidified this thought. She will forever be remembered
as a woman with a heart big enough to take on children as her own in times of extreme need and

Similarities Between Lance Armstrong And Macbeth
Lance Armstrong and Macbeth have many similarities through the urge for ambition in their lives.
Armstrong and Macbeth both lost fans/friends throughout their journeys in life. Armstrong s use of
drugs made people respect him a lot less and not like him. Macbeth s harmful ruling made everyone
not like him and want him dead. These equate because each were not liked by others and lost
important figures in their lives that lead to their downfall. Additionally, Armstrong and Macbeth
both used their power beyond control in a way that harmed themselves and or others. Macbeth
killed many people for him to remain in control of power. More than half the deaths he caused
were people who weren t in an position to harm him anyway. Armstrong used his... Show more

Another connection between Lance and Armstrong is that greed was their tragic flaw. Macbeth
and his wife were very greedy and weren t satisfied with the power they held. And they weren t
going to stop until they ruled the whole kingdom. Him and his wife would go to any measure to
do so. Armstrong had the desire to be the best in cycling, even if that meant cheating. He sued,
bullied, and killed careers of innocent people. Not knowing all those people were just telling the
truth. It s sad to see on the greatest American success stories to all be a lie. Everything was taken
away from Armstrong; money, sponsors, supporters, and respect. Macbeth s tragic downfall ended
in death. Both characters had a spiraling downfall and this is why cheaters and liars never win.
There are also many differences between Macbeth and Armstrong that play as a role in their way to
the top. One being Armstrong admitted to his actions and did an interview explaining why he chose
to do so. Armstrong explains that without having cancer he would ve never have won the Tour de
France he also said if he were to redo it, he wouldn t have changed a thing. Macbeth on the other
hand hid the fact that he was killing others. He hired people to do his dirty

Customer Satisfaction of ATM Service: A Case Study of HSBC ATM Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Dr.
Samir Kumar Sheel Pallab Kumar Biswas * Abstract: The Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is one
type of innovation that can mechanically accept deposits, issue withdrawals, transfer funds
between accounts, collect bills, and make small loans. This study aims at investigating the
satisfaction levels of HSBC ATM cardholders (both staff and nonstaff) with respect to various
aspects (promptness of card delivery, the performance of HSBC ATM, the service quality of ATM
personnel etc.) of using HSBC ATM and their opinions on various other related issues (such as
positive and inconvenient features of HSBC ATM, recommendation to improve the service quality

to have an idea about customer satisfaction about various banking products of HSBC, but no
study has been undertaken to identify the level of customer satisfaction with respect of various
aspects of HSBC ATM. But as day by day the use of ATM is increasing, it is important to make a
study to gain insight about the level of customer satisfaction with respect to various aspects of
HSBC ATM and to identify the problem areas and proposed recommendation leading to
improvement. This study is such an attempt. The main objectives of the study can be stated as
below: (a) To examine the level of nonstaff customer satisfaction associated with various aspects
of HSBC ATM (such as promptness of card delivery, the performance of HSBC ATM, the service
quality of ATM personnel etc.); (b) To examine the level of staff customer satisfaction associated
with various aspects of HSBC ATM; and (c) To make policy recommendations to improve the
service quality of HSBC ATM. 1.3 Rationale of the Study: The findings of the study will provide
information to use in analyzing the current ATM situation of HSBC. As the use of ATM services is
increasing day by day, on the part of the bank, it is important to have an idea about what the ATM

Why Is The Screw Sane Or Insane
Sane or Insane?
By Alex Gimenez
Sane or Insane? That is the question, and only the author Henry James knew the answer. There
has been a lot of speculation about The Turn of the Screw, and what makes it so interesting is
that Henry James never tells the reader if the ghosts are real or if the governess is sane or insane.
That leaves the interpretation of the governess mental state up to the reader. The governess is the
one that tells most of the story, and in my opinion, she proves herself to be very unreliable and,
therefore, insane. The reasons why I think the governess was insane are as follows. First, the
governess is the only one in the story who admits to seeing the ghosts. Second, the governess
seemed to become very suspicious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governess immediately questions what he could have done wrong to get himself expelled.
Mrs. Grose defends Miles, and when the governess finally meets him the governess is taken by his
looks and charm, and thinks she was crazy to think that he could have done anything wrong. Then,
as she becomes more suspicious and paranoid, one night Flora sneaks out of bed and is staring out
the window at someone outside. The governess thinks she is staring at the ghost of Miss Jessel, but
it is really Miles. This makes the governess even more convinced that something fishy is going
on with Miles, Flora, and the ghosts. From here on out, things quickly get worse and there is a
lot of tension between the governess and Miles. Then, Flora disappears one day, and is found at
the lake where the governess first saw Miss Jessel. After Flora is found, the governess loses it
and wants to know where Miss Jessel is, and the ghost appears, but only to the governess. Flora
and Mrs. Grose deny seeing anything, and then Flora turns on the governess for good. So were the

Animals The Music Video a refreshing portrayal of American culture. The pop rock band
Maroon 5 s new hit single Animals from their fifth studio album V is their 10th song to reach the
top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. At first glance it appears to be just another unoriginal pop
rock song; melodic, repetitive. But as we look at the press that surrounds both the song and its
music video we find a controversy surrounding sexual violence and objectification. There can be
no question of a need of such discussion in regards to the themes that Animals the music video
brings to light. That being said, the question in this discussion should not be whether it promotes
these topics but rather if it does a good enough job of making the audience critically aware that
these problems exist. This will be done by looking at the video and its song from a radical
Feminist perspective. Bell Hooks defines Feminism as, a movement to end sexism, sexist
exploitation, and oppression. And the first step of ending these things is showing how they are a
part of our culture which this video does brillintly. The music video is clearly, rather than
promoting rape culture, is not only a sardonic view of the song lyrics themselves and the meaning
behind them but also critiquing the hegemony of the sexually violent culture we live in today. In
this paper I would like to analyze the music video Animals by Maroon 5 from two different angles.

The Pros And Cons Of Fast Food
The topic of fast food consumption is one that is quite controversial between those that choose to
indulge and others who choose to make healthier food choices. Fast food corporations typically
offer their customers readily made food options or pre cooked meals. Some of the largest and most
successful fast foodchains in America include, McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger King, Wendy s and
Chick Fil a. All of which are just some of the many billion dollar companies.
If these companies are worth billions, it s evident that consumers are spending plenty of money
within these businesses. Despite always hearing about how unhealthy fast food is, our society
chooses to consume it regardless, which leaves us to wonder why would anyone want to put
something into their body that could potentially harm them? Yet, a fast food consumer could also
argue the same about someone who chooses to to smoke or drink alcohol. The power of persuasion
easily influences consumers to purchase things that aren t in their best interest health wise.
Therefore, many brands and companies utilize different marketing strategies in order to convince
consumers to buy, without quite indicating the effects of your purchase. In addition, most
consumers also succumb to purchasing fast food simply because it s convenient for their lifestyle.
Sometimes the easier way out is enough to assure individuals that they re making a positive choice.

HBR Case Revitalizing Dell Essay

Case Revitalizing Dell I. Diagnosis
Question 1: The most critical shifts in Dell s contextual factors, including industry dynamics, trends,
technology changes and shift of the competitive landscape are following: The industry has changed
significantly over the last 20 years. The traditional business model in the PC industry was inside
out, supplying machines based on orders from distribution, resell and retail channels, thus following
the indirect selling concept. Dell s direct model was at this time a new, challenging concept, taking
orders directly from the end consumer, and thereby, eliminating the middleman, costs and time. This
was the initial crucial shift away from the traditional schema, allowing Dell s quick ... Show more

After a series of confusing initiatives and consequent losses, it was acquired by Acer, leading to
the next dynamics shift, which critically affected Dell later on (mid 2000s), but in a much less
fortunate way. Acer praised itself with 100% indirect selling, entirely contrasting Dell s business
model. Acer established its competitive edge with its portfolio of brands, offering an extensive
line of less expensive products. In fact, in 2009, Acer passed Dell to be the world s largest PC
provider in unit terms, as its sheer size allowed the company to tailor brands to customer segments
and geography, while having the volume to demand discounts from component suppliers and
contract manufacturers (p.12).
d) Acer: Acer s rise and Dell s consequent decline were largely reliant on the shift of interests of
industries and consumers. Firstly, the PC industry shifted more and more towards outsourcing
production, and thereby created lower priced products, which were welcomed by customers, as
their needs shifted more and more towards cheaper products, which were acquirable in retail
stores. Since the market in the US has become fairly saturated, the dynamics of the PC industry
shifted increasingly towards cheaper products, as emerging countries such as India or China
demand for PC s (and laptops) vastly outnumbers any other market. In addition, younger customers
(i.e. school kids) have become a rising market segment as well, as

Leadership and People
Promoting Servant Leadership in the Youth
Defining Leading and Leadership
Leading is defined as:
1. Influencing others to take action toward specific goal.
2. Guiding and directing on a course, and as serving as a channel. A leader is someone who has
commanding influence.
Leadership is defined as:
1. It is the process of influencing and directing activities of members toward goal accomplishment.
2. It is about ordinary people who care. People who care enough to get extra ordinary things done.
3. It is the capacity and will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which
inspire confidence.

leadership in the eyes of outsiders. But at the same time and probably for the same reason, he
comes down hard when we make mistakes or he feels that we have let him down. I sometimes
resent being so uninvolved and feeling so unimportant. I would like to speak out and even
disagree with the leader for he is not right all the time, but I m not sure how this would go over
with the others in the group. While we spend a lot of time talking about the boss and his ways
outside meetings, we tend to turn into lambs when he is around. I guess it is because we would not
like to hurt and upset him. So things keep going on in the usual way.
2. Democratic or Participative Style
Characteristics of democratic leaders can be summed up in the following:
They are generally as concerned with maintaining group effectiveness as with completing the task
to be done.
They encourage members in their groups to express their ideas and feelings, because they believe
that such a climate leads to greater creativity and commitment.
If they encounter resistance or conflicts, they allow them to surface and they seek the help of their
groups in removing the resistance or resolving the conflicts.
They encourage joint decision making as well as shared goal setting.
They rarely set policies without explaining the reasons and proposing them to

False Recognition VsFalse Memory We remember what we understand; we understand only what we pay attention to; we pay attention to what we want, is a famous memory quote stated by an actor, Edward Bolles. Memory is a broad term that reflects different processing abilities on how humans encode, store and retrieves information. There are numerous domains in the human s memoryability with the storage and retrieval of short term and long term information. The Greenland Norse faced multiple challenges including economical, agricultural, and unfriendly neighbors. On top of that, the Faeroes were also known to be wet, foggy, and rainy for over two hundred days out of the year. Perhaps the largest island other then Greenland itself, was Iceland which was made out of volcanic fire, ice, water, and wind laying on the Mid Atlantic Ridge. Now that we ve talked about the challenges faced on the smaller North Atlantic islands, let s go over the problems faced on Greenland by the Norse. Greenland agriculture was so minimal that most native Norse never saw wheat, bread, or beer made from barley in their lifetime. In fact, if the Norse did grow any crops, they would have made only an extremely minor contribution to the diet. Probably just as an occasional luxury food for a few chiefs and clergy (Collapse pg. 227). As far as the Greenland Norse economy went it was vital that they were able to work together for the greater good of the whole community. On page (235) of Collapse it states, Different Greenland locations produced different things, such that people at different locations depended on each other for the things that they did not produce. Josef Mengele sResearch Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands of concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of them all was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners with physical abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits such as eye colour, obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of existence. This interest stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to the extreme violation and sterilization of undesirable groups . Others argue that although the data may have value, it is not ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained. (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84). Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is the need for some type of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices taking place all over the world; although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and although the vast majority of researchers would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any experiments and procedures that they wish, the consequences could be terrible. Disadvantages Of MouldingEssay 4.2.4 Advantages of Liquid Silicone Rubber Moulding Here are several problems that might face with other materials, which would not with LSR: By Products: LSR does not generate by products. Its molecular structure makes it appropriate for a wide range of applications, however, the same structure means it can t be broken apart or recycled. The superior bonding strength between the silicon and oxygen atoms keeps the polymers from degrading under temperatures that most thermoplastics cannot withstand. Restrictive design: Generally, LSR has design guidelines that are comparable to thermoplastics, but it offers more freedom in certain areas. LSR gives designers more flexibility in the design process because the material is more forgiving when compared to thermoplastics. Planes: Planes that run the same direction of the mould opening usually require some draft, which allow milling of the mould. The mould design requires about one ... Design for ease of demoulding is just as important as design for moulding. Silicone has high green tear strength: meaning that very large undercuts may be designed into a product and the parts can be stretched over them during demoulding without permanent deformation. However, this does not mean that any geometry may be easily removed from the mould. The Little MermaidBy Brenda Chapman And Mark Andrews From... In the movie Brave directed by Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews from Pixar shared a similar storyline as The Little Mermaid which was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker from Disney, is that they both brought up the cultural and societal expectations on gender roles. Similarly, in between the two movies Brave and The Little Mermaid, the director focussed on the feminine aspects of how society perceives a women and expects females to fulfill their roles. Furthermore, the overall message of both movies is that parents and children need to listen and try to understand each other before the situation gets out of hand. Although, Princess Merida and Princess Ariel grew up with a certain gender roleexpectations, however, they have prove society s perception of how feminine should be perceived is wrong by showing how Ariel change for men or how Merida declare war for independence. In the movie Brave, Princess Merida (the daughter of the Scottish King Fergus) is very skilled in archery; therefore, she want her talent to represent her individualism instead of as the Princess of Scottish. Merida hates to live with the traditional image of a female role, whereas her mother (Queen Elinor) wants her daughter to fulfill the feminine so that she can a suitor for herself. However, Merida was not ready for marriage this early in the age. She felt suffocated with all of the female expectations that her mother has set for her to follow. Why I WantTo Be Cheer Essay The moment I knew I wanted to do cheer the rest of high school was during fishbowl. While I was cheering to the loud, enthusiastic crowd, I had realized I was much happier cheering on the sidelines than in the stands, or anywhere else. I just wanted to be cheering because cheer is very fun, and I love everything about being on the team. It values team building and highly emphasizes school spirit. I am very dedicated and excited about cheer because it involves skills that I naturally pick up on quickly and/or I can work on in a fun, yet ambitious way. What makes a good team member is someone who looks out for everyone and is there for you no matter what. Someone who is always willing to help out the team and team mates individually as well. ... St. Pio ofPietrelcina or Padre Pio Essay Padre Pio has become one of the most popular saints in the world. St. Pio of Pietrelcina or Padre Pio, was born in the small Italian village of Pietrelcina on May 25, 1887. Then known as Franscesco, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, he was born to two peasant farmers, Giuseppa and Grazio Forgione. The day after his birth, he was baptized at the Castle Church near his home. The town of Pietrelcinawas very religious and saint s feast days were celebrated throughout the year, this had a strong influence on the Forgione family. From early on it was clear that Franscesco was a special child of God. As child he was very pious and decided he wanted to be a priest at a very early age. (A Padre Pio Celebration) I chose to research and write about Padre Pio, because I found his life very fascinating. I thought it was very intriguing, that Padre Pio, mysteriously received the signs of crucifixion and the doctors had no other natural explanation for it. His life is inspirational, because, even though he went through great suffering throughout his life, he still managed to see God s love for him. Padre Pio believed that with love from God, came suffering and suffering for the sake of God, helped the soul reach and become closer to God. An inspirational quote from Padre Pio is, Pray, hope, and do not worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer. (Padre Pio Quotes) This is something I would like to imitate in my life, because this quote describes the basics things one needs to do the lead a good spiritual life. The United StatesFaces Security Challenges The United States faces several national security challenges. For one, it has seemingly lost its leadership role in space activities. Other countries, such as China, are ramping up investments in space, while NASA s budget is at a historic low as a share of the overall federal budget. Return on investments in space technology has benefitted the civilian space program and the military alike. U.S. military operations and intelligence collection rely on space systems and access to these capabilities must be assured . Adversaries could deduct from this report that lack of an overarching U.S. space strategy may mean gaps in capabilities between these stakeholders. Identifying those gaps and exploiting them is an attack of the strategy or more accurately stated, a lack of strategy. The United States published its first National Security Space Strategy by means of an unclassified summary in January 2011. The document contains strategic objectives, approaches and implementation information. The strategy carries a consistent theme of partnering, collaboration and sharing of capabilities, data, services, and technology with allies, international organizations, and commercial firms. The relationship with partners in space is so valued that we will seek to access their capabilities if U.S. systems are degraded or unavailable . U.S. adversaries could use this information in many ways. They could watch for indicators of whether we are truly following the strategy. What would it mean if an opportunity arose to partner with another nation for the sharing of information or capabilities and the U.S. did not enter into that relationship? This information potentially gives adversaries a space strategy to confirm or deny versus forcing them to build an estimate of our strategy. As pointed out in the National Security Space Strategy, the U.S. seeks to partner with commercial firms. One of our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women s RitesOf Passage Introduction Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth or a transition from puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to christen these changes in social status within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic in how important a change is in the lives of the people who experience them. Status changes such as these are very important in the eyes of their culture and the ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society adjust to the changes that are occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can be found in many cultures around the world is a young girls transition into womanhood. Two of the cultures that one examined this rite in were the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of the Amazon. With the genocide of the Native Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they use have not been seen by outsiders. Information on any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately, the Oglala Sioux Wichasa Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk recorded these ceremonies before his death. In the book The Sacred Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven sacred rites of the Oglala Sioux, one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha Lowan, preparing a young girlfor womanhood. (Black Elk, 1989). In this ceremony, the rite is performed just after the young girls first menstrual cycle. This was one of a hand full of naval battles that happen within visual range of each other. The first strikes of the battle took place on 26 October 1942. Oedipus Relationship BetweenHamlet and Gertrude The Oedipal Relationship between Hamlet and Gertrude Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, Shakespeare portrays Hamlet with the same types of behaviors and frustrations in humans that Sigmund Freud saw at a much later date. When the relationship between Hamlet and his mother is analyzed Freud s oedipal complex theory comes to mind. Sigmund Freud first wrote about his theory in his book An Interpretation of Dreams in 1899. Simply put, Freud states that it is normal for children to have sexual desires for their parent of the opposite sex. He says that it is also normal to have feelings of hatred for the other parent that is of the same sex as the child. Most children experience these feelings between the ages of three and five, ... (3.4 . l. 90) This exploring of his mother s carnal nature is because he is sexually concerned for her. Hamlet also makes many allusions to beds and sex in the scene because beds are where most sexual activity occurs. An example of this is when Hamlet says: In the rank sweat of an enseamented bed Stew d (3.4 . l. 93 96) It is possible that here Shakespeare wanted to show how Hamlet s rage brought out all his repressed sexually desires for his mother because of Hamlet s concentration on Gertrude s sex life. All of these words come out in Hamlet s rage because before he had repressed them. It can be best explained by Freud when he sates the complex which is thus formed is doomed to early repression (Freud 51) but it has a lasting influence from the unconscious. (Freud 51) It could be concluded from a Freudian point of view that in this scene Hamlet s repressed sexual desire for his mother surfaces due to his rage in a form of sexual allusions. The significance of the closet scene taking place in Gertrude s bedroom is also important to look at because the privacy and intimacy of the bedroom add a new dimension when Hamlet s and Gertrude s relationship is examined. Bedrooms are very private and are usually places where sexual activity takes place. Shakespeare possibly placed Hamlet and Gertrude in these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interplay Between HumanLaws And Divine Laws In Antigone... In Sophocles s Antigone, one of the central storylines situates on interplay between human laws and divine laws. Although divine characters do not directly appear in the play, their rules and regulations soundly affect characters behaviors. This is clear throughout the play. The expressions of the characters in the play, as well as the thematic ending of the play that featured the realization of King Creonover his decisions against divine laws requiring every deserving man s burial, apparently demonstrate divines superior status to humans. However, divines are not able to reverse the damages done by humantransgressions. In the play, divine s presence is evident. How Hemingway HasToo Strong Opinions On Homosexuality Hemingway has extremely strong opinions on homosexuality, which Gertrude Stein attempts to dissuade by convincing him that those who attempt to assault young boys are not well in their heads. While Stein attempts this, Hemingway proclaims that because homosexuality exists, you [carry] a knife and would use it when you were in the company of tramps when you were a boy in the days when wolves was not a slang term for men obsessed by the pursuit of women (Hemingway 16). It seems that Hemingway does not realize that, when objectifying women, he turns into one of the wolves of which he is so afraid. However, Hemingway maintains his fear of homosexuality; he ridicules an effeminate homosexual named Hal, satirizes Fitzgerald s sexual uncertainties, and professes disgust at the lesbian practices of Stein and Toklas (Kennedy 187). Hemingway is horrified by homosexuals, because he is afraid that he will be objectified by homosexual men just as he objectifies the women in his own life. He believes that leering after unsuspecting partners is only okay when he is an active participant; he is just afraid of being objectified and therefore, forced into an action against his own will. However, homosexuality disturbs Hem, less because it involves alternate erotic practices than because it subvert his fundamental assumptions about sex, gender, and desire (Kennedy 191). He believes that men are only right to objectify, not to be objectified. He believes that the gender and sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interview With JohnNash After spending a week with John Nash, I may have stumbled upon a central purpose of my life. Well, not nobel Laureate John nash himself, but whenever I describe Fred, their characteristics seem quite parallel. Fred is unique, possessing an indomitable spirit to fulfill his dreams without fear of failure. not only is he the most brilliant young man I have ever met, he exhibits a genuinely compassionate heart. Sadly, many people may never recognize Fred as the beautiful individual that he is, or what he has to offer. While our society may call him chal lenged, I have come to recognize him as an unexpected role model. For Fred, you see, is autistic. He does not interact well with people, and is often unable to express his thoughts clearly or articulately. He doesn t understand why people laugh at him. Yet even so, Fred is blessed with an acute sense of purpose and... His enthusiasm and his indomitable spirit in the face of adversity taught me valuable lessons lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The Cost OfA Large French Fry Fries are one of the many trademark foods of McDonald s restaurants, with millions of people flocking to their local McDonald s every day to enjoy the delectable potato side dish. The fries are also quite cheap only costing $1.39 for a small, or $2.29 for a large at McDonald s in the United States (not including tax), making them a very desirable purchase. However, many may ask themselves if they are receiving an amount of fries that makes the low price actually low, especially when looking at the almost one dollar difference between a large and small french fry. This reasoning inspired me to investigate; I wanted to see if the higher cost of a large french fry is justifiable. My question lead me to coming up with the idea of purchasing large and small fries, counting the number of fries, then calculating the average cost per fry. I then hypothesized that large fries are actually not the greatest bargain because it costs more per fry than a small. In numeric terms, H0:L=Svs. Ha:L S 0 where L= the true mean cost per fry for a large french fry at the Waukee location, and S= the true mean cost per fry for a small fry at the Waukee location. It is necessary to collect raw data in order to draw conclusions, so, for this population an observational study was used to obtain data. The collection process is actually quite simple, as McDonald s french friesare all that are needed. However, around fifteen samples of large and small fries is the recommended minimum number of ... Voter Suppression AndVoting Suppression What is voter suppression? The voter suppression strategy is used to influence the outcome of an election by dissuading voters from exercising their right to vote. Voter suppression should not be comparable to campaigning because the two differs significantly. Campaigning in its political sense is the ability to change voter s likelihood of voting behavior to change their opinions through persuasion. Voter suppression on the other hand attempts to reduce the number of voters by means of suppression. History of voter suppression The United States first began to deal with the issue of voter suppression during the Reconstruction. During Reconstruction freed slaves earned their right to vote and hold office through the fifteenth amendment in 1870. In 1877, Democrats, known as Dixiecrats, began to impose laws that were designed to suppress the African American vote or better known as Jim Crow Laws. The Jim Crow voting laws required the freedmen to pass literacy tests that they were unable to pass because of no formal education because of their status of slaves. Many states created poll taxes, which many poor Americans, white and black, were unable to pay. Many precincts made their voting precincts white only so that blacks would have nowhere to cast their votes. The Jim Crow voter suppression tactics were so successful that only three percent of African Americans in the south were registered to vote in 1940. This essay directly correlates with that quote. Through this reflective essay, I will be reevaluating goals that I have previously set, and showing the creation of new goals for the future. This essay in itself will assist me in laying out these goals for myself, as well as reflecting on what I have done this year, who I am as a learner, and where I see myself going in the future. Throughout junior year, I have been able to better define myself. I have been able to see not only what I value in myself, but also in others. I have realized in this past year that I value free thinkers and independent personalities. My favorite hobbies include horseback riding, skiing, and creating change in the world. I am not fond of working, but I have realized that it is a necessary evil. I define myself as a hard worker and someone who enjoys working towards my goals, as opposed to just having things handed to me in life. Shakespeare In ModernSociety Shakespeare relevance in modern society is a highly debated topic in modern classrooms. Many students will argue that he is old and is to confusing, others will say he s boring. Then on the other side of the argument students argue that he has shaped the modern english language and has changed society for the better. Whilst others are undecided, listening to both sides of the argument and not being able to decide. In this essay both sides will be discussed; talking about quoting shakespeare and how much we use his words and phrases everyday, how the emotions in shakespeare s playsare still relevant in modern society and audiences still react in the way the play intended and finally how social norms have changed and it is no longer socially acceptable with it putting the wrong ideas into people s heads. Everyone quotes shakespeare or uses on of his works at least once everyday. Most people don t even realize we are doing it. Most people probably think it s greek to me (a phrase created by shakespeare), when really it is very common In between writing poems and plays shakespeare was creating new words and phrases to fit his plays and other works. Shakespeare almost created a whole nother language in his time creating round 1700 words. Sexual Assault InCollege Essay Sexual assault among college students is a tragic incident that keeps reoccurring. There are three predictors I believe heavily contributes to sexual assault among college students. The first predictor is that an individual is in a college environment that promotes heavy drinking and sexual activity while drinking. I believe this contributes to the chances of someone getting sexual assaulted because college students in this environment might think it s the norm and feel that it is ok because their campus pairs sexual activity with drinking. The consumption of alcohol lowers someone s inhibition to make plausible decisions. Similarly, if a person is younger age and lower year in school that is one predictor for sexual assaultto occur. Younger age and underclassmen risk being taken advance of on college campuses. They can be easily lied or fooled to by upperclassmen, especially in a relationship. Upperclassmen might convince the... Colonism In Europe Itis evident that in 16th century Europe there existed both the motivation and the means to explore and colonize territory across the seas. As it can be said, With the dawn of the 16th century, there came together in Europe both the motivation and the means to explore and colonize territory across the seas. This statement is true to a large extent, especially in the areas of trade and technology. The physical means to explore and colonize came from the advances in technology that the Europeans had gone through, allowing them to sail far across the oceans and take over native populations easily. The motivation, on the other hand, came from trade related reasons, such as the desire to trade new resources, to find gold, and to find new trade routes. Without the technology or trade at the dawn of the 16th century, there would not have been the means nor the motivation for Europeans to explore and colonize the New World. First, the Europeans had the means to explore and colonize the New World mainly because of their advances in technology. As Schweikart put it, a wide range of technologies coalesced to encourage long range voyages of discovery. For example, the Arabs development of the astrolabe helped sailors establish the sun s altitude above the horizon. Vikings farther north introduced new methods of hull construction, allowing vessels to withstand violent ocean storms. Sailors on the Baltic coast tinkered with larger and more controlled ship designs. Improved ships ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effectiveness Of HighPreference ( High P ) Intervention Introduction Noncompliant behavior in an academic setting can result in missing opportunities, falling behind in schoolwork, missing instruction and disrupting the class. It is critical that noncompliant behavior be decreased (Banda Kubina, 2010). This study focused on a thirteen year old middle school student with Autism. Brad was a student who displayed academic noncompliance particularly with mathematics tasks. Brad was fully capable of completing all of the academic demands that were present, but showed resistance in completing missing addend math problems. The Case OfLudviga Pukas What makes someone want to make a change in the world? For some, it is a deep desire to be a part of something bigger or better than themselves. Yet for others, it is a family connection or interest that sparks their conscience. For example, when people are moved to do things like adopt children, something in their heart tells them that she should be a part of something bigger in the world. That is exactly the case for Ludviga Pukas, a domestic maid from Ukraine. It was her own morals and faithfulness to her employer that left her to be remembered as one of the hundreds of thousands of holocaust rescuers (Women of Valor). In the later 1930s, Ludviga (Nina) Pukas found a job in a town then called Proskurov as a maid with a mother, Frima Sternik, and her two children, ages four and one. She formed such a bond with a family that even after she started her own family, she continued to stay with and work for them. Then, as she becomes more suspicious and paranoid, one night Flora sneaks out of bed and is staring out the window at someone outside. The governess thinks she is staring at the ghost of Miss Jessel, but it is really Miles. This makes the governess even more convinced that something fishy is going on with Miles, Flora, and the ghosts. From here on out, things quickly get worse and there is a lot of tension between the governess and Miles. It s NotRape If You Sing It Joel Johnson It s Not Rape if You Sing It: Animals The Music Video a refreshing portrayal of American culture. The pop rock band Maroon 5 s new hit single Animals from their fifth studio album V is their 10th song to reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. At first glance it appears to be just another unoriginal pop rock song; melodic, repetitive. But as we look at the press that surrounds both the song and its music video we find a controversy surrounding sexual violence and objectification. There can be no question of a need of such discussion in regards to the themes that Animals the music video brings to light. That being said, the question in this discussion should not be whether it promotes these topics but rather if it does a good enough job of making the audience critically aware that these problems exist. This will be done by looking at the video and its song from a radical Feminist perspective. Bell Hooks defines Feminism as, a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression. And the first step of ending these things is showing how they are a part of our culture which this video does brillintly. The music video is clearly, rather than promoting rape culture, is not only a sardonic view of the song lyrics themselves and the meaning behind them but also critiquing the hegemony of the sexually violent culture we live in today. In this paper I would like to analyze the music video Animals by Maroon 5 from two different angles. The first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros AndCons Of Fast Food The topic of fast food consumption is one that is quite controversial between those that choose to indulge and others who choose to make healthier food choices. Fast food corporations typically offer their customers readily made food options or pre cooked meals. Some of the largest and most successful fast foodchains in America include, McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger King, Wendy s and Chick Fil a. All of which are just some of the many billion dollar companies. If these companies are worth billions, it s evident that consumers are spending plenty of money within these businesses. Despite always hearing about how unhealthy fast food is, our society chooses to consume it regardless, which leaves us to wonder why would anyone want to put something into their body that could potentially harm them? Yet, a fast food consumer could also argue the same about someone who chooses to to smoke or drink alcohol. The power of persuasion easily influences consumers to purchase things that aren t in their best interest health wise. Therefore, many brands and companies utilize different marketing strategies in order to convince consumers to buy, without quite indicating the effects of your purchase. In addition, most consumers also succumb to purchasing fast food simply because it s convenient for their lifestyle. Sometimes the easier way out is enough to assure individuals that they re making a positive choice. Marketing: Marketing your product is the most straightforward way to ... HBR Case RevitalizingDell Essay March 4, 2011 Case Revitalizing Dell I. Diagnosis Question 1: The most critical shifts in Dell s contextual factors, including industry dynamics, trends, technology changes and shift of the competitive landscape are following: The industry has changed significantly over the last 20 years. The traditional business model in the PC industry was inside out, supplying machines based on orders from distribution, resell and retail channels, thus following the indirect selling concept. Dell s direct model was at this time a new, challenging concept, taking orders directly from the end consumer, and thereby, eliminating the middleman, costs and time. This was the initial crucial shift away from the traditional schema, allowing Dell s quick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a series of confusing initiatives and consequent losses, it was acquired by Acer, leading to the next dynamics shift, which critically affected Dell later on (mid 2000s), but in a much less fortunate way. Acer praised itself with 100% indirect selling, entirely contrasting Dell s business model. Acer established its competitive edge with its portfolio of brands, offering an extensive line of less expensive products. In fact, in 2009, Acer passed Dell to be the world s largest PC provider in unit terms, as its sheer size allowed the company to tailor brands to customer segments and geography, while having the volume to demand discounts from component suppliers and contract manufacturers (p.12). d) Acer: Acer s rise and Dell s consequent decline were largely reliant on the shift of interests of industries and consumers. Firstly, the PC industry shifted more and more towards outsourcing production, and thereby created lower priced products, which were welcomed by customers, as their needs shifted more and more towards cheaper products, which were acquirable in retail stores. Since the market in the US has become fairly saturated, the dynamics of the PC industry shifted increasingly towards cheaper products, as emerging countries such as India or China demand for PC s (and laptops) vastly outnumbers any other market. In addition, younger customers (i.e. school kids) have become a rising market segment as well, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But at the same time and probably for the same reason, he comes down hard when we make mistakes or he feels that we have let him down. I sometimes resent being so uninvolved and feeling so unimportant. I would like to speak out and even disagree with the leader for he is not right all the time, but I m not sure how this would go over with the others in the group. While we spend a lot of time talking about the boss and his ways outside meetings, we tend to turn into lambs when he is around. I guess it is because we would not like to hurt and upset him. So things keep going on in the usual way. 2. Democratic or Participative Style Characteristics of democratic leaders can be summed up in the following: They are generally as concerned with maintaining group effectiveness as with completing the task to be done. They encourage members in their groups to express their ideas and feelings, because they believe that such a climate leads to greater creativity and commitment. If they encounter resistance or conflicts, they allow them to surface and they seek the help of their
