Eagle Scout Accomplishments
I am most proud of achieving my Eagle Scout rank at age 16. My journey to Eagle has been one
of hard work and dedication. Besides serving the community with over 300 hours of building
and refurbishing projects , I have assumed positions of leadership early on, often recommended
by adult leaders, as I was described to be mature for my age and very responsible. Over the course
of 6 years I was the assistant Den Chief leading younger Scouts, Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol
Leader leading my peers, Quartermaster responsible for the managementof all troop equipment,
Chaplain Aid, Instructor teaching the Aviation Merit Badge and ultimately I was recommended
by my troop adult leaders and asked by my Scoutmaster to assume the position of Senior Patrol
Leader leading the entire troop of over 100 boys during my Junior Year in High School. The job
took having a lot of initiative and excellent time management skills on my part to organize and
coordinate many activities, meetings and projects as well as serving the needs of the different
patrols. I excelled at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

4.654 GPA while volunteering for my water polo club and taking a college course concurrent
with my High School load. Second to my Eagle Scout I am extremely proud of all I was able to
coordinate and accomplish academically throughout High School. I have received Summa Cum

The Impact Of Multiculturalism And Multiracialism In...
Multiculturalism and multiracialism has become the proud hallmark of Singapore society today.
However, the issues that come together with them still seem to plaque the community even after
more than five decades. In retrospect, these issues are more protuberant in the implementation level
than at the policy making stage. The way Chua Beng Huat asserted in his paper titled
Multiculturalismin Singapore: an instrument of social control, it seems as though multiculturalism
and multiracialism are double edged swords which can cut both ways.
In the abovementioned paper, Chua (2003) asserts that under the CMIO (Chinese, Malay, Indian,
Others) scheme, the languages, religions and festivals of the three major groups receive formal
equal treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This melting pot model seems to be ideal as it emphasizes our shared identity and traits as
compared to the idea of multiculturalism, which is having different cultures and races co existing
within a society. However, xenophobia is real and it is evident that Singaporeans are still quite
culturally intolerant in certain aspects such as the sentiments of Singaporeans with regards to the
aftermath of the Little India Riots. Singaporeans had to be urged not to spread xenophobia (Sim,

Essay on Opposites Attract in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun...
Opposites Attract in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
A Proverb once stated, Opposites attract. Scientist, chemist, doctors, and even matchmakers around
the world know this statement to be true. However in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, the
relationship between Lady Brett Ashley and Robert Cohn proves this statement wrong. Throughout
the novel, Lady Brett has many types of relationships with a variety of people, most of whom are
men. Some of these men include Jake Barnes, the narrator of the story, Mike Campbell, her
supposed husband, and Pedro Romero. Lady Brett s laid back, independent, and rather promiscuous
life style creates many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Bill has not known Cohn for long, he already does not like him. Bill s first
impression of Cohn is a bad one, whereas Bill s first impression of Brett is very good. After Jake
introduces Brett to Bill he thinks, Quite a girl. She s damned nice (Hemingway 81). Everyone,
including Bill, like Brett and enjoy her personality and her company, whereas Cohn is the
complete opposite. Cohn always seems to tag along with Brett, Jake, and Mike and never joins in
on the conversations. Brett is always the life of the party, whereas Cohn usually keeps to himself.
One night while they are in Pamplona, Spain for the week of fiestas and bull fights, they all go out
drinking and Mike Campbell, who also does not like Cohn, badly embarrasses Cohn in front of
the whole group. Mike begins yelling, Do you think you amount to something, Cohn? Do you
think you belong here among us? People who are out to have a good time? Do you think Brett
wants you here? Do you think you add to the party? Why don t you say something? (Hemingway
181). Even though the others do not like Cohn, they never honestly tell him to his face. However
Mike is not afraid to speak the truth to Cohn. Not only do Cohn and Brett have different levels of
popularity, but also different levels of maturity.
Throughout the book, Cohn s age difference separates him from all of the others. Cohn often is very

The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost
Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant
theological system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe
in such a system. The death of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and
turning to find gratification through Calvinism. Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the
characters in his poetry as if they were trying to escape something that was not possible, such as
Calvinism. Once a human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for them and they
are subjected to either hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his
poetry to emphasize the mindset of such individuals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his
strong faith. Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a
life to live however, God is ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life.
The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem
by stating I have been one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one
can interpret that the speaker was once drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life,
however, he has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put him through this clearly for a
reason and proves that he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost kept his
faith strong, despite believing he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
/ When far away an interrupted cry/ Came over houses from another street, (Frost 7 9) Frost is
hearing the sounds of a watchman or inner voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell
him what to do just to remind him that He is always there watching over him. When the speaker
looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or the moon, he states once again I have been
acquainted with the night, (Frost 14) stating once again the he believes he has been damned. Frost
knows that he technically doesn t have control in any of his choice, and not even the

German Schools Vs American Schools
American schools and German schools have many differences.
In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels.
They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what
language they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions
about what interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they
do not care for it.
German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of
their own interests in the classroom. German students learn many of the same basics as American
students, but their education paths diverge earlier than students in the US. Starting in

Anger Disruption By Avoidance And Removal
Coping strategies Anger Disruption by Avoidance and Removal These techniques lead to
interruption of anger by removing you, mentally or physically, from the situation. For example, it
might be wise to simply get up and leave a situation when anger develops. This might even be
negotiated with a spouse, friend, or business associate in advance. It might be wise to delay
responding by asking for time to think about angering issues or to gather additional information
before responding. It might be wise to seek an alternative mode of response, such as a written or
email answer, instead of an immediate spoken one. These techniques may decrease or even prevent
the anger altogether. Doing a distracting non angry activity is also an alternative. One mother, with
an anger problem, chose to plan meals and do the laundry instead of arguing and insulting her
teenage daughter about homework. Other individuals may count to ten or may... Show more content

Relaxation coping skills target this excitement and can help you calm down when angered. You
can learn to become aware of the triggers for anger and you can use relaxation to lower it.
Relaxation skills include slow deep breathing, slowly repeating a calming word or phrase,
picturing a personal relaxation image, or focusing on muscle tension and consciously letting it
go. These skills are practiced at home until you can relax quickly. Then, as you become better at
using relaxation, it can be used to lower anger within the therapy session. For example, the
therapist may ask you to imagine an angering event, experience the anger, and then assist you in
the relaxation skills to lower the anger. Over the course of a few sessions, as the therapist s
assistance decreases, you can learn to handle increasing levels of anger. If successful in the therapy
sessions, you can begin to use relaxation for anger management in daily living, freeing yourself to
approach situations more

Mobile Phones And Tablets Are More Than A Good Thing
Overview
As the administration battles to stay aware of the changing propensities for an undeniably
organized citizenry, government organization innovation bosses need to grow their digital
platforms to create app oriented content custom tailored for smartphones and tablets (Corbin, 2014).
As residents utilize a more extensive exhibit of gadgets, the presentation of government substance
needs to those varied platforms. Today, there has been an explosion of mobile devices being used
for work, whether authorized or not and mobile security is becoming a hot topic. Mobile phones and
tablets are more than a simple communication machines in today s society.
Within the government, all sides can agree on that moving helpful applications, or apps, to
mobile devices where they can be used by the community for free at any time and almost at any
location is a good thing. Governmental Agencies are looking at new and different technologies
and mobile applications to be used, so these government apps are designed for citizens based on
their helpfulness, ease of use and the intangible but all important coolness factor (Breeden, 2012).
With the plethora of federal apps available, some of the most innovative are listed.

A Historical Background On Science And Mathematics
Time and again, when referring to a historical background of a topic in science or math, we have
been exposed to only a handful of key figures and even fewer notable events without any social or
cultural context behind it. Such details are often overlooked and taught without the perspective of
the era and why it occurred at the time. There maybe several reasons for such dismissal. Within the
STEAM subjects, especially scienceand mathematics, the content strives to be empirical and
concrete without influence of culture, race, gender or era in time. It maybe useful to only highlight
few historical figures and events to maximize time in knowledge content. However, often times, the

By exploring the interactions of Newton with his colleagues about his ideas and Darwin s letters to
Lyell and his grandfather s influence in theory of evolution, this essay will attempt to demonstrate
that lone geniuses in science history are illusions to make up for a good story to tell to engage
students in class. Even during his time, Isaac Newton was recognized and greatly respected by
people within various scholarly fields. Alexander Pope claimed Newton as the light to the dark and
mysteriousness laws of nature in his poem. (1 Pg. 161) However, it is rarely glorified that Newton
was not a distinguished scholar when he was younger, except in mathematics, and as an adult, he
had diverse interests, such as alchemy, and theology. As a scientist, Newton s ideas were discussed,
criticized and appreciated constantly within the scientific societies of the time. Edmund Halley, the
discover of comet and Newton s colleague, communicated about elliptical orbits and angular
momentum of planets with Newton (Pg137). This made Newton questions his own theories about
planetary motion and thus eventually lead him to publish Philosophiae Nauturalis Principia
Mathematica . In the book, he structured his argument to disprove Descartes theory and referred to
Galileo s work to explain universal gravitation. The incorporation of previous

Heteronormativity And Interactions
After observing the behaviors and interactions of various groups comprised of individuals of the
same gender and opposite genders at Orange Circle, it became apparent how heterosexism and
heteronormativity play a role in interactions between people of the same gender and opposite
genders. To further elaborate, it seemed that same sex groups or pairings often appeared to exhibit
reserved body language and distance in physical proximity when compared to opposite sex
pairings or groups. Additionally, it was also evident that many of the heterosexual pairings
observed seemed to adhere to or enforce standard genderroles during their interactions. Although no
overt examples of homoeroticism or homophobia were recorded, it was clear that heterosexism...

Upon analyzing the interactions between opposite sex pairings or groups, it was apparent that the
distance between the individuals involved seemed to be less than one foot, and many of those
involved in these interactions walked, stood, or sat angled toward one another. The lack of distance
between individuals suggests that there were higher levels of intimacy involved in the relationships
of the opposite sex pairings, and their apparent willingness to display this openly reinforced the
idea that heterosexism promotes public displays of heterosexual relationships and heterosexual
intimacy. Allan Johnson s (2006) assertion that heterosexuals are free to reveal and live their
intimate relationships openly... without being accused of flaunting their sexuality (Johnson, 2006,
p. 29) is confirmed by the behaviors exhibited by all of the heterosexual pairings observed. These
heterosexual pairings seemed considerably less reserved than their same sex counterparts and
appeared to be comfortable exposing visible signs of affection, attraction, and intimacy in a public

High Data Rate Wireless Communications for Brain Computer Interfaces
Overview: To achieve full success in experiments on brain plasticity, bi directional brain computer
interfaces (BBCIs) must deliver activity dependent stimulation for extended periods of time in
unconstrained environments [1]. BBCIs are neuroprosthetics used for fundamental research in
neurophysiology and neural rehabilitation. The ability to stimulate the brain in response to single
neuron action potentials have allowed for high fidelity control of prosthetic limbs [2], [3], and

Backscatter communication operates by modulating and reflecting electromagnetic energy to a
receiver; the system is small and ultra low power because it no longer needs the relatively large and
power hungry local oscillator or power amplifier, although there is additional challenge of increased
signal attenuation. This currently makes operation in a high multipath channels (such as animal
cages and hospital rooms) challenging.
Preliminary Results: Working with Prof. Reynolds and the Fetz Lab, I have collaborated with two
graduate students to develop an initial backscatter system for the NeuroChip3. We have
successfully integrated with the NC3 and demonstrated wireless backscatter communication at 5
Mbps with 16 channels at 5 kHz sampling rates and 20 Mbps with a wired link. Initial VNA tests
of modified planar antennas in a mock animal cage have also shown achievable bandwidths up to
20 MHz, although there is currently a high variance.
Research Objectives: My research will investigate the following questions to provide quantifiable
improvements on backscatter communications for the Neurochip3 and other BBCIs:
O1) Develop, test, and quantify performance of data coding methods to improve signal to noise
ratio of backscatter communication systems in strong multipath and Doppler environments. Data
coding has been shown to improve the performance of backscatter systems with a low signal to
noise ratio (SNR) for

The Cuban Revolution Of Cuba
In the 1950 s, tourists visited the island of Cuba for its warm beaches, culture and Spanish colonial
architecture. But underneath the surface, was a revolution ready to burst through the Cuban people
they just needed the right person to lead them. Cuba at this time was run by a Political Dictator
named Fulgencio Batista.
Fulgencio Batista was elected President of Cuba between 1940 and 1940. In 1952 Batista declared
that constitutional guarantees and the right to strike will be suspended. He became a dictator with
absolute power over Cuba. Batista turned the Cuban capital of Havana into one of the largest
gambling cities in the world. Batista reorganised the Cuba s treasury so that political
representatives and himself can take freely from the riches. Under Batista s rule, education and
health care wasn t free to the general public. The Cuban public were not satisfied with Batista and
how he was ruling Cuba, the people didn t have a say in decisions in government, were treated
unfairly with high taxes, selling/giving the peoples land to American business owners.
Fidel Castro was the man who successfully removed Batista from his cruel dictatorship. In Castro
s early life, he went to three expensive Catholic schools. He was good at sports, and participated
and led camping and climbing exhibitions. Castro fought with the other boys and teachers
frequently. He succeeded in everything. In sports, in studies. And every day he would fight. He had

Analysis Of After The First Death By Robert Cormier
Cruel things happen everywhere around the world today; there are things that make us question
the world that we live in. In the novel After the First Death written by Robert Cormier a terrorist
hijacking of a school bus filled with little kids is a cruel thing. In the book there are characters who
are innocent and then the characters who are not so innocent. Raymond, Kate , and Ben were
innocent but, this innocence was taken away from them by the end of this novel.
Raymond was one of the many little kids on the bus during the hijacking, when Raymond was
first introduced he was known as the chunkier kid. When the terrorists first hijacked the bus they
gave all the kids drugged candy to sedate them. On page 107 it stated To make up for being late. He
kept his room neat. He washed up good before eating. He did not fidget. He did not eat candy
except at special times (107). Raymond did not eat the candy that Artkin gave to him because he
wasnt allowed to. He was an innocent little boy who did as he was told but it was changed when
the terrorists found out he did not eat the candy. A second example from the text is Raymond s
chin began to tremble. Whats your name boy? Raymond. He said the name a whisper. His eyes
were agonized as he confronted Artkin (150). This is towards the end of the book and the two
terrorists Arkin and Miro have realized that Raymond must have not eaten the candy because he is
awake and alert. After this was found out Raymond was forced to eat the

The China Boom Summary
The China Boom: Why China Will Not Rule the World, by Ho fung Hung. New York: Columbia
University Press, 2016.
Ho fung Hung s work attempts to reconcile the widespread expectation that China s rise would lead
to a fundamental change in the global status quo with the observed fact that China has become
increasingly connected to and one with the global status quo. To do this, he must first examine
China s rise and prove that it upholds the global status quo, and further must look into the origins of
China s rise, going back to the 13th century, to understand why this rise seemingly changed so little
about the global world order.
Hung s stated goals are as follows. First, he aims to outline the historical origins of the capitalist
boom in China as well as the conditions which predicated said boom. He also names four
conceptions against history to explore the global effects of China s capitalist boom and the limit
of that boom. Firstly, he seeks to challenge the notion that China is challenging the United States
neoliberal order. Secondly, he examines the belief that the increasing incomes of poor Chinese
citizens helps to reverse worldwide income polarization. Thirdly, he analyzes the claim that China
s rise is challenging Western dominion over the world, and is radically altering the world order.
Lastly, he plans to evaluate the assertion that China has been emerging as the most powerful driver
of growth since the global financial crisis. He plans to devote a single chapter to the refutation of
each of these views and explanations of why they overstate the importance of China, in addition to
several introductory chapters describing China s rise. He aims to prove with this work that China is
no different than the other major capitalist powers, that its boom is dependent on the global
neoliberal order, that its boom contributes to rampant inequality, and, in sum, that China is just a
foundation of the capitalist status quo.
Hung s first foray into the history behind China s rise centers on the massive influx of American
silver into 17th and 18th century China and how it fueled a commercial revolution. He talks about
the revisionist image of pre capitalist China as simply agrarian, and states that this

The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin...
In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of
various forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poet s sense of his own fleeting
existence juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the
timelessness of art in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in
existence, and what is not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in
itself. The presence of this conflict within the sonnet shows Keats s self coined Negative Capability,
the ability to be in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and
reason (Keats 863). Furthermore, the Negative Capability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains,
a gaping absence: an eagle less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the
image is the existence of an absence. Two lines later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7)
which he does not have. The unusual description of the winds as cloudy implies a fraught and
stormy sky, and stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent
to the speaker. Thus, here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous
imagery creates something substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the image s
existence, becomes all the more palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in
its own right. The oxymoron dim conceived glories (9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial
level, the oxymoron is interesting in that it combines dim, connoting darkness, with glories, which
often connotes radiance or light. Furthermore, there is a tension between the dim and conceived,
the latter implying creation and thus existence, while the first paradoxically suggests something
barely or non existent. Implying the creation of that which does not exist embodies the tension
between existence and the

The Three Branches Of The Government
The Three Branches of the Government The Government has three branches for law making.
When a law is being created, it starts at the Legislative, and then gets passed to the Executive
branch, then to the Judicial branch. Each branch has their own area of the law that they look at.
In the end, it is decided if the law will be issued to the people. When the law is being created, it
starts at the Legislative branch. In the branch, Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate
and the House of Representatives. In Senate, there are 100 senators, making it two senators from
each state. Once elected, they will serve a six year term in Senate. The Vice President is known
as the head of Senate, but is only involved in the voting when there is a tie. They also approve
the recommendations made by the President to the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, federal courts,
and other posts. All the Senate must ratify all of the treaties by a two third vote. In the House of
Representatives, there are 435 representatives. Each state has a certain number of representatives
depending on the population. An example of this would be New York and Rhode Island. New
York would have more representatives because the population is much bigger in the busy state
then Rhode Island s would be. This is decided by the yearly Census. If it shifts, a representative
could be added or subtracted. The representatives elected, will serve a two year term. They also
elect the Speaker of the House, who is the head. . The

Human Trafficking Is in America
Human Trafficking is in America, it s in backyard and most don t even know it. Many Americans
believe that this horrible action only takes place in countries such as China, Japan, India, and Ghana
but no; it happens in the United States also. The definition of human trafficking is the illegal
practice of procuring or trading in human beings for the purpose of prostitution, forced labor, or
other forms of exploitation (dictionary.com). Slaverywas abolished in 1865 in the 13th amendment
in the constitution but it sad to say, it still exist. 60,000 people in America in November 2013
could safely be called modern day slaves (Slavery isn t a thing of the past). Today human trafficking
is counted as immigrant workers who are smuggled into the country and forced to work under the
threat of violence. And also men and women, forced to sell their bodies for sex and give all their
money to their pimps (Slavery isn t a thing of the past). Pimps are the ones who usually run the
human trafficking business. Approximately75 80% of human trafficking is for sex (55 little known
facts about human trafficking). Many believe that only adults are being worked but children and
teens are too, matter of fact the average age is between12 and 14. The number of human trafficking
in the United States will continue to increase because it is too difficult to find and prevent.
Slavery has been a part of this world even before the 1400 s, but the 1400s marked the start of
European slave trade.

Robinson Crusoe Thesis Statement
My diploma thesis is about the Main Themes in Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe novel. This novel
is an autobiographical narrative novel which the author names Robinson Crusoe .Novel firstly was
named The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, but then was
changed into Robinson Crusoe .It was published with this title with the intention to look more like
the life of a sailor, not of the author itself.
The novel represents the amalgamation of middle class and aristocratic society. It represents the
spiritual progress which is revealed during the activities that he has on the island. The experiences
that he has made him realize the connection between him and the divine belief.
The love and affection that Robinson has for nature and the sea are one of the most captivated
loves that he feels during his life. In the beginning of the novel, Defoe s writes about his family
opinions towards him, and how unhappy they were about Robinson s life ... Show more content on

started doing a lot of researchers on the internet, where I found a lot of books which were written
about Robinson Crusoe. I have read different essays, books, newspapers, and critical thoughts from

The Road Fire Case Study
Paul and his mother, Mrs. Fisher, drove to their new home in Tangerine, from Texas, hoping to
leave all their memories behind. Shortly after arriving, conflict stirs up. A so called fire begins.
Paul and his mother quickly got nervous and called the fire department. The fire truck came over
to their home, 20 minutes late, casually cruising up the street. Once they begin talking, the
firefighter explains that it s a unstoppable muck fire. Mr. Costello, the president of the
homeowners association came to the Fisher home to help explain the muck fires a little bit more
in depth. Mr. Costello decided to bring his son along, Mike, who would be holding footballs for

The Black Panther Tank Battalion Essay
The Black Panther Tank Battalion The 761st Black Panther Tank Battalion was the first African
American armored unit to see combat. Before and during mobilization for World War II, officials
in Washington, D.C., debated whether or not African American soldiers should be used in armored
units. Many military men and politicians believed that blacks did not have the brains, quickness or
moral stamina to fight in a war. Referring to his World War I experiences, Colonel James A. Moss,
commander of the 367th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Division, stated, quot;As fighting troops, the
Negro must be rated as second class material, this primarily to his inferior intelligence and lack of
mental and moral qualities. quot; Colonel Perry L. Miles,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

enlisted men from other Army units joined their ranks. The 758th trained on the M 5 light tank,
which carried a crew of four. Powered by twin Cadillac engines, it could reach a maximum speed
of 40 mph and had an open road cruising range of 172 miles. It was armed with a .30 caliber
machine gun mounted to fire along the same axis as the tank s main armament, a 37mm cannon.
When the tracer bullets from the .30 caliber registered on a target, the cannon would be fired,
hopefully scoring a direct hit. The M 5 was also armed with two more .30 caliber machine guns,
one on the turret and one in the bow. The light tank was employed to provide fire support, mobility
and crew protection in screening and reconnaissance missions. The 5th Tank Group, commanded by
Colonel LeRoy Nichols, was to be made up of black enlisted personnel and white officers. With the

6th Mass Extinction Research Paper
Three Potential Effects of the Next Extinction When the 6th Mass Extinction does occur, the effects
will be tremendous. Unlike the other extinctions, it is predicted that the changes associated with
this extinction will not only create a new epoch in history, but also shape the Earth in the way
microbes evolved into multicellular organisms did (Hance, 2015). The effects, however, will be
somewhat similar to past extinctions. One predicted effect of the 6th Mass Extinctionis the
availability of empty niches unoccupied habitats and places in an environment. When a species is

that is also destroyed. The species of animals that weren t harmed... Show more content on

Many of the animals and plants that currently exist in this world are important pillars of the
existing economy. Unless no dramatic alterations occur over the next couple decades, most
likely, these organisms will continue to play and important role in society. Certain crops, such
as corn and tomatoes, as well as animals, such as cows and pigs, serve as important food sources
for the ever growing human population (Extinction: Causes and Consequences, n.d.).
Furthermore, insects such as bees are invaluable as they help fertilize food sources and help
keep a healthy diet available for people. In the UK, as depicted in the graphic below, the value of
honeybees to the economy is significantly greater than 400 billion euros, the total averaging about
two billion euros. With an extinction of bees would come an extinction of plants and crops, and
then animals that relied on those crops, and animals that relied on those animals and so on
(Holland, 2009). Soon enough, food webs would be toppled, many would starve, and the 6th Mass
Extinction would occur. With the depletion of resources because of it, any organisms left on the
planet would have to adapt because everyone that was left would be in a state of poverty. The
damage that was caused would take centuries to recover and build from (Extinction: Causes and

Traditional Management Styles And Disciplinary Techniques...
If you do that again, you will be in big trouble! This is an exclamation that is heard all around the
world, in many different languages. It is heard in houses, schools, play groups, and many other
places. It is said by parents and teachers alike. The problem with that phrase is the consequence.
Alfie Kohnand Forrest Gathercoal are two experts in classroom management. They both believe that
traditional management stylesand disciplinary techniques need some adjustments. One can gather
from reading both Kohn s and Gathercoal s works that there is quite a large amount of sense
behind that and schools really should reexamine these practices. Kohn believes that many of the
disciplinary methods used in today s schools do not create an ethical child. Kohn (2006) tells us,
By contrast, ethical sophistication consists of some blend of principles and caring, of knowing
how one ought to act and being concerned about others. Punishment does absolutely nothing to
promote either of these things (p. 29). When children are disciplined, they will only remember
that doing whatever the wrong thing was, has the effect of discipline. This will impair them later
because they may not know why the action was wrong. It will not teach them right from wrong.
Kohn (2006) also talks about coercion. The description used is, The most basic way to get what
you want from someone, assuming you have more power than he does, is just to make him do it
(Kohn, 2006, p. 22). It is argued

Organizational Structure Of A Corporation
Appex Corporation
When Ghosh joined Appex, he walked into a company full of chaos with no definable structure.
The rapidly growing company was ill equipped to manage its growth at the rate it was expanding.
There were no formal policies or structures in place to manage this exponential growth. As the
number of products increased the lack of structure became more pronounced. The work became
mostly crisis management, leading to a decline in customer focus and production. Additionally,
finances were not managed with any planning or structure causing Appex to lose money rapidly.
Ghosh, eager to test his skills, attempted several organizational structures to stabilize Appex.
Circular Structure
Circular structure is a nonhierarchical organization structure with the senior executives in the
center. The circle centers on the executives, followed by the managers, then employees, and then
the customers. Ghosh used this system as an attempt to create a continuous flow of information
through the organization. One problem identified was that current employees could not relate and
new hires did not understand. New hires looked for a hierarchical structure to understand the flow
of power for decisions and their performance evaluation but were unable to identify such within this
organizational structure. Additionally, this structure did not formalize any type of business planning.

Similarities Between New France And Midlanders
New France s ideals of tolerance, a general distaste for hierarchy, and independence, aligned
directly with the Midlanders acceptance of the natives, their belief that all were equal in the eyes
of God, and their view on the government and religion. At the beginning of New France s creation,
Samuel de Champlain had a radical idea. He felt that this new settlement should coexist in a
friendly, respectful alliance with the Native American nations in whose territories it would be
embedded (Woodard 35). This idea pushed New Franceto form alliances with the Native
Americans, showing their tolerance for other cultures. The Midlanders shared this ideal. Based on
the Golden Rule, the Quakers believed that all humans were equal before God, regardless of sect,
race, or gender (Woodard 93).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only that, but it also showed how the Midlanders felt about hierarchy and how there was no
need for classism. New France also held this belief. After their first failed attempt at the feudal
system, all those who left to live in the wildness developed a dislike for the class system
(Woodard 42). Just like the Midlanders, New France felt that no one in the colony was above
one another after the feudal system dissolved. Because all the workers left the colony to move
into wild, they began to rely on the tribes more than their colony (Woodard 42). Their values
mixed with the natives which created a sense of fierce independence in the New France settlers.
The Midlanders echoed this value of independence. They believed that each person had an Inner
Light holding the Holy Spirit within him or her (Woodard 93). This prompted the idea that the
citizens could govern themselves, promoting a strong value of independence. Because New France
and the Midlands shared so many ideals, their identities were very

Imagine you are coaching a team in college. You have had a great season and you ve only lost 1
game and won your division. However, you lose your spot in the playoff to another team that

system in College Football. Replacing the BCS with a playoff system would give each of the
eleven conferences (and the FBS Independents) an equal opportunity to compete for the national
championship. Most teams are left out of the BCS due to 1 loss, even though they might ve had a

Higher ranked schools have an option to weaken to protect their undefeated record. Higher ranked
teams can pay lower ranked schools to play against them. This would allow the higher ranked
team to avoid a loss. Many teams pay lower ranked teams to play against them. For example,
Alabama (#1 ranked team in College Football) paid West Kentucky (6 7 record) $1.3 million to
play them. Another example is Miami (FL) (ACC Coastal Champion) paid Arkansas State (3 5

A lot of people state that since there are so many teams, there is no way to play each team. This is
wrong for the following reason. Every team doesn t have to make the playoffs. Only one of every
conference (and one from the FBS Independents with six teams in them). Every team has a

The House on Mango Street
When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their internal
strength. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time focusing on their inner
growth and developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce
beautiful fruits that draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to
say, I was here and made a permanent difference. After they have utilized their outward influences,
they use their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If

Now the slab can be seen as a secondary result deriving from the poor condition of the roots. The
roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the community on Mango Street, which supports
Esperanza s development. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in
cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she
needs to grow. When Esperanza explains that the trees send ferocious roots beneath the ground ,
she is implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for
their growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly,
which shows it is not an environment that allows children to develop properly (Cisneros 28).
Because of the deficit her community is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential,
and resorts to digging deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises
when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to disease. Keeping with the
metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart rot disease.
This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the roots, which lead to the
decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. Esperanza is obviously being
fed infectious ideas from her misshapen community, and has begun to let it eat away at her heart.
This cycle is started by the roots

Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Insanity, the unsoundness of the mind, and madness are topics that are difficult to understand.
However, Edgar Allen Poe s poem, The Raven presents the concept of insanity in an enchanting
way. In this paper, I am going to argue that Poe s use of the image of the raven represents the
narrators budding madness and could possibly be viewed as a symbol for his subconscious mind in
the poem. Poe seems to structure the ravenin this way through his abstract language, form, tone,
symbolism and imagery. Although The Raven is rich in symbolism, the plot is actually quite
simple. In the poem, the unnamed speaker is reading and nearly napping in his home alone on a
bleak December night when he hears a tapping at his door. He is in a deep sorrow over the loss of
Lenorewho is assumed to be the speaker s deceased wife/lover. He discovers that it is a raven that
was tapping at his door and he begins to speak to the bird who responds only with the phrase
nevermore . As the poem ends, the speaker seems to have been driven into a fit of insanity
because of his conversations with the raven. Like many of Poe s poems the setting of The Raven
is dark and gloomy. In the first stanza, we learn that it is late at night, Once upon a midnight
dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, (1). Moreover, the speaker suggests that the night was a
bleak December , further cementing the dismal tone of the poem. It seems significant that Poe
chose the poem to take place at midnight and in

of his current opening, Ken could have said something like,
Jan, I really need to speak with you. I completely understand that what happened between Katie and
me was wrong, but by you telling Shannon, it has not only created issues between Shannon and me,
but also has me feeling a bit uneasy about confiding in you.
2.How do you perceive Jan s effort to convince Ken to forgive her? Based on what you have
learned in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken s forgiveness.
Firstly, Jan could have completely owned her actions and asked if there was any way to make it
up to him. Secondly, Jan should stay on topic. By her bringing up Ken telling her dad on her, and
comparing it to this situation, she effectively negated Ken s feelings and engaged in cross
complaining. Cross complaining is described as When a person s complaint is met by aa
countercomplaint (Wood, 2012, p. 233), as opposed to showing recognition of the other person s
original concern.
3.What are two nonverbal cues used by Jan? What are two nonverbal cues used by Ken? In what
ways did the

Model Driven Development of Real Time and Distributed Software SYSC 5708 (Department of
Systems and Computer Engineering) PROJECT REPORT FALL 2014 Prof. Dorina C. Petriu
Submitted by: TARANJEET SINGH #7212973 ELEVATOR SYSTEM MODELLING USING
UML INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT In this project a descriptinve UML modelling for
an elevator control system is depicted. Elevator system can be considered as an real time
embedded system and hence the object oriented concepts of UML can be exploited. Although the
current object oriented analysis and design methods focus only on the software of a system
which might be troublesome for a real time system merely because of more comprehensive and
intellegent approach that it requires. Some of the real time aspects that needs to be considered
are : 1. Modeling of the network 2. Time constraints 3. Definition of task and task communication
4. Definition of hardware elements and their characteristics However, UML can be used to define
and analyse a real time features of a complex system and can somewhat address the above
mentioned aspects. In order to describe the modelling from the hardware and software side, we have
made use of three different views to model the structure of the system namely object construction
and the software structure view which plays role to describe the software architecture of the system
and the third one is the system architecture view which represents the system hardware and

  • 2. Eagle Scout Accomplishments I am most proud of achieving my Eagle Scout rank at age 16. My journey to Eagle has been one of hard work and dedication. Besides serving the community with over 300 hours of building and refurbishing projects , I have assumed positions of leadership early on, often recommended by adult leaders, as I was described to be mature for my age and very responsible. Over the course of 6 years I was the assistant Den Chief leading younger Scouts, Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader leading my peers, Quartermaster responsible for the managementof all troop equipment, Chaplain Aid, Instructor teaching the Aviation Merit Badge and ultimately I was recommended by my troop adult leaders and asked by my Scoutmaster to assume the position of Senior Patrol Leader leading the entire troop of over 100 boys during my Junior Year in High School. The job took having a lot of initiative and excellent time management skills on my part to organize and coordinate many activities, meetings and projects as well as serving the needs of the different patrols. • 3. The Impact Of Multiculturalism And Multiracialism In... Multiculturalism and multiracialism has become the proud hallmark of Singapore society today. However, the issues that come together with them still seem to plaque the community even after more than five decades. In retrospect, these issues are more protuberant in the implementation level than at the policy making stage. The way Chua Beng Huat asserted in his paper titled Multiculturalismin Singapore: an instrument of social control, it seems as though multiculturalism and multiracialism are double edged swords which can cut both ways. In the abovementioned paper, Chua (2003) asserts that under the CMIO (Chinese, Malay, Indian, Others) scheme, the languages, religions and festivals of the three major groups receive formal equal treatment ... This melting pot model seems to be ideal as it emphasizes our shared identity and traits as compared to the idea of multiculturalism, which is having different cultures and races co existing within a society. Scientist, chemist, doctors, and even matchmakers around the world know this statement to be true. However in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, the relationship between Lady Brett Ashley and Robert Cohn proves this statement wrong. Throughout the novel, Lady Brett has many types of relationships with a variety of people, most of whom are men. Some of these men include Jake Barnes, the narrator of the story, Mike Campbell, her supposed husband, and Pedro Romero. Lady Brett s laid back, independent, and rather promiscuous life style creates many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Bill has not known Cohn for long, he already does not like him. Bill s first impression of Cohn is a bad one, whereas Bill s first impression of Brett is very good. After Jake introduces Brett to Bill he thinks, Quite a girl. She s damned nice (Hemingway 81). Everyone, including Bill, like Brett and enjoy her personality and her company, whereas Cohn is the complete opposite. Cohn always seems to tag along with Brett, Jake, and Mike and never joins in on the conversations. Brett is always the life of the party, whereas Cohn usually keeps to himself. One night while they are in Pamplona, Spain for the week of fiestas and bull fights, they all go out drinking and Mike Campbell, who also does not like Cohn, badly embarrasses Cohn in front of the whole group. Mike begins yelling, Do you think you amount to something, Cohn? Do you think you belong here among us? People who are out to have a good time? Do you think Brett wants you here? Do you think you add to the party? Why don t you say something? (Hemingway 181). Even though the others do not like Cohn, they never honestly tell him to his face. However Mike is not afraid to speak the truth to Cohn. Not only do Cohn and Brett have different levels of popularity, but also different levels of maturity. • 5. The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant theological system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe in such a system. The death of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and turning to find gratification through Calvinism. Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the characters in his poetry as if they were trying to escape something that was not possible, such as Calvinism. Once a human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for them and they are subjected to either hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his poetry to emphasize the mindset of such individuals.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his strong faith. Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a life to live however, God is ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life. The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem by stating I have been one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one can interpret that the speaker was once drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life, however, he has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put him through this clearly for a reason and proves that he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost kept his faith strong, despite believing he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet / When far away an interrupted cry/ Came over houses from another street, (Frost 7 9) Frost is hearing the sounds of a watchman or inner voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell him what to do just to remind him that He is always there watching over him. When the speaker looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or the moon, he states once again I have been acquainted with the night, (Frost 14) stating once again the he believes he has been damned. In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels. They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what language they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions about what interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they do not care for it. German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of their own interests in the classroom. Anger Disruption By Avoidance And Removal Coping strategies Anger Disruption by Avoidance and Removal These techniques lead to interruption of anger by removing you, mentally or physically, from the situation. For example, it might be wise to simply get up and leave a situation when anger develops. This might even be negotiated with a spouse, friend, or business associate in advance. It might be wise to delay responding by asking for time to think about angering issues or to gather additional information before responding. It might be wise to seek an alternative mode of response, such as a written or email answer, instead of an immediate spoken one. These techniques may decrease or even prevent the anger altogether. Doing a distracting non angry activity is also an alternative. These skills are practiced at home until you can relax quickly. Then, as you become better at using relaxation, it can be used to lower anger within the therapy session. For example, the therapist may ask you to imagine an angering event, experience the anger, and then assist you in the relaxation skills to lower the anger. In the novel After the First Death written by Robert Cormier a terrorist hijacking of a school bus filled with little kids is a cruel thing. In the book there are characters who are innocent and then the characters who are not so innocent. Raymond, Kate , and Ben were innocent but, this innocence was taken away from them by the end of this novel. Raymond was one of the many little kids on the bus during the hijacking, when Raymond was first introduced he was known as the chunkier kid. When the terrorists first hijacked the bus they gave all the kids drugged candy to sedate them. On page 107 it stated To make up for being late. He kept his room neat. • 19. The China Boom Summary The China Boom: Why China Will Not Rule the World, by Ho fung Hung. New York: Columbia University Press, 2016. Ho fung Hung s work attempts to reconcile the widespread expectation that China s rise would lead to a fundamental change in the global status quo with the observed fact that China has become increasingly connected to and one with the global status quo. To do this, he must first examine China s rise and prove that it upholds the global status quo, and further must look into the origins of China s rise, going back to the 13th century, to understand why this rise seemingly changed so little about the global world order. Hung s stated goals are as follows. First, he aims to outline the historical origins of the capitalist boom in China as well as the conditions which predicated said boom. He also names four conceptions against history to explore the global effects of China s capitalist boom and the limit of that boom. Firstly, he seeks to challenge the notion that China is challenging the United States neoliberal order. Secondly, he examines the belief that the increasing incomes of poor Chinese citizens helps to reverse worldwide income polarization. Thirdly, he analyzes the claim that China s rise is challenging Western dominion over the world, and is radically altering the world order. Lastly, he plans to evaluate the assertion that China has been emerging as the most powerful driver of growth since the global financial crisis. He plans to devote a single chapter to the refutation of each of these views and explanations of why they overstate the importance of China, in addition to several introductory chapters describing China s rise. He aims to prove with this work that China is no different than the other major capitalist powers, that its boom is dependent on the global neoliberal order, that its boom contributes to rampant inequality, and, in sum, that China is just a foundation of the capitalist status quo. Hung s first foray into the history behind China s rise centers on the massive influx of American silver into 17th and 18th century China and how it fueled a commercial revolution. He talks about the revisionist image of pre capitalist China as simply agrarian, and states that this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin... In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of various forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poet s sense of his own fleeting existence juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the timelessness of art in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in existence, and what is not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in itself. The presence of this conflict within the sonnet shows Keats s self coined Negative Capability, the ability to be in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason (Keats 863). Furthermore, the Negative Capability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains, a gaping absence: an eagle less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the image is the existence of an absence. Two lines later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7) which he does not have. The unusual description of the winds as cloudy implies a fraught and stormy sky, and stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent to the speaker. Thus, here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous imagery creates something substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the image s existence, becomes all the more palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in its own right. The oxymoron dim conceived glories (9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial level, the oxymoron is interesting in that it combines dim, connoting darkness, with glories, which often connotes radiance or light. Furthermore, there is a tension between the dim and conceived, the latter implying creation and thus existence, while the first paradoxically suggests something barely or non existent. In the end, it is decided if the law will be issued to the people. When the law is being created, it starts at the Legislative branch. In the branch, Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. In Senate, there are 100 senators, making it two senators from each state. Once elected, they will serve a six year term in Senate. The Vice President is known as the head of Senate, but is only involved in the voting when there is a tie. They also approve the recommendations made by the President to the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, federal courts, and other posts. All the Senate must ratify all of the treaties by a two third vote. In the House of Representatives, there are 435 representatives. Each state has a certain number of representatives depending on the population. An example of this would be New York and Rhode Island. New York would have more representatives because the population is much bigger in the busy state then Rhode Island s would be. This is decided by the yearly Census. When the tracer bullets from the .30 caliber registered on a target, the cannon would be fired, hopefully scoring a direct hit. The M 5 was also armed with two more .30 caliber machine guns, one on the turret and one in the bow. The light tank was employed to provide fire support, mobility and crew protection in screening and reconnaissance missions. The 5th Tank Group, commanded by Colonel LeRoy Nichols, was to be made up of black enlisted personnel and white officers. With the 758th Tank Battalion in place, two more tank battalions were needed to complete the 5th Tank Group. • 31. 6th Mass Extinction Research Paper Three Potential Effects of the Next Extinction When the 6th Mass Extinction does occur, the effects will be tremendous. Unlike the other extinctions, it is predicted that the changes associated with this extinction will not only create a new epoch in history, but also shape the Earth in the way microbes evolved into multicellular organisms did (Hance, 2015). The effects, however, will be somewhat similar to past extinctions. One predicted effect of the 6th Mass Extinctionis the availability of empty niches unoccupied habitats and places in an environment. When a species is killed off by some natural or anthropogenic event, the habitat it once lived in is left empty, unless that is also destroyed. The species of animals that weren t harmed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the animals and plants that currently exist in this world are important pillars of the existing economy. Unless no dramatic alterations occur over the next couple decades, most likely, these organisms will continue to play and important role in society. Certain crops, such as corn and tomatoes, as well as animals, such as cows and pigs, serve as important food sources for the ever growing human population (Extinction: Causes and Consequences, n.d.). Furthermore, insects such as bees are invaluable as they help fertilize food sources and help keep a healthy diet available for people. In the UK, as depicted in the graphic below, the value of honeybees to the economy is significantly greater than 400 billion euros, the total averaging about two billion euros. With an extinction of bees would come an extinction of plants and crops, and then animals that relied on those crops, and animals that relied on those animals and so on (Holland, 2009). Soon enough, food webs would be toppled, many would starve, and the 6th Mass Extinction would occur. With the depletion of resources because of it, any organisms left on the planet would have to adapt because everyone that was left would be in a state of poverty. • 32. Traditional Management Styles And Disciplinary Techniques... If you do that again, you will be in big trouble! This is an exclamation that is heard all around the world, in many different languages. It is heard in houses, schools, play groups, and many other places. It is said by parents and teachers alike. The problem with that phrase is the consequence. Alfie Kohnand Forrest Gathercoal are two experts in classroom management. They both believe that traditional management stylesand disciplinary techniques need some adjustments. One can gather from reading both Kohn s and Gathercoal s works that there is quite a large amount of sense behind that and schools really should reexamine these practices. Kohn believes that many of the disciplinary methods used in today s schools do not create an ethical child. Kohn (2006) tells us, By contrast, ethical sophistication consists of some blend of principles and caring, of knowing how one ought to act and being concerned about others. Punishment does absolutely nothing to promote either of these things (p. 29). When children are disciplined, they will only remember that doing whatever the wrong thing was, has the effect of discipline. This will impair them later because they may not know why the action was wrong. It will not teach them right from wrong. Kohn (2006) also talks about coercion. The description used is, The most basic way to get what you want from someone, assuming you have more power than he does, is just to make him do it (Kohn, 2006, p. 22). It is argued ... The rapidly growing company was ill equipped to manage its growth at the rate it was expanding. There were no formal policies or structures in place to manage this exponential growth. As the number of products increased the lack of structure became more pronounced. The work became mostly crisis management, leading to a decline in customer focus and production. Additionally, finances were not managed with any planning or structure causing Appex to lose money rapidly. Ghosh, eager to test his skills, attempted several organizational structures to stabilize Appex. Circular Structure Circular structure is a nonhierarchical organization structure with the senior executives in the center. The circle centers on the executives, followed by the managers, then employees, and then the customers. Ghosh used this system as an attempt to create a continuous flow of information through the organization. One problem identified was that current employees could not relate and new hires did not understand. New hires looked for a hierarchical structure to understand the flow of power for decisions and their performance evaluation but were unable to identify such within this organizational structure. • 35. Similarities Between New France And Midlanders New France s ideals of tolerance, a general distaste for hierarchy, and independence, aligned directly with the Midlanders acceptance of the natives, their belief that all were equal in the eyes of God, and their view on the government and religion. At the beginning of New France s creation, Samuel de Champlain had a radical idea. He felt that this new settlement should coexist in a friendly, respectful alliance with the Native American nations in whose territories it would be embedded (Woodard 35). This idea pushed New Franceto form alliances with the Native Americans, showing their tolerance for other cultures. The Midlanders shared this ideal. Not only that, but it also showed how the Midlanders felt about hierarchy and how there was no need for classism. New France also held this belief. After their first failed attempt at the feudal system, all those who left to live in the wildness developed a dislike for the class system (Woodard 42). Just like the Midlanders, New France felt that no one in the colony was above one another after the feudal system dissolved. Because all the workers left the colony to move into wild, they began to rely on the tribes more than their colony (Woodard 42). Their values mixed with the natives which created a sense of fierce independence in the New France settlers. The Midlanders echoed this value of independence. They believed that each person had an Inner Light holding the Holy Spirit within him or her (Woodard 93). This prompted the idea that the citizens could govern themselves, promoting a strong value of independence. Because New France and the Midlands shared so many ideals, their identities were very ... However, you lose your spot in the playoff to another team that was undefeated. How would this make you feel? The BCS should be replaced with a playoff system in College Football. Replacing the BCS with a playoff system would give each of the eleven conferences (and the FBS Independents) an equal opportunity to compete for the national championship. Most teams are left out of the BCS due to 1 loss, even though they might ve had a great season. A playoff system would even up the playing field, allowing more teams to compete for the National Championship. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time focusing on their inner growth and developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, I was here and made a permanent difference. After they have utilized their outward influences, they use their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the slab can be seen as a secondary result deriving from the poor condition of the roots. The roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the community on Mango Street, which supports Esperanza s development. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When Esperanza explains that the trees send ferocious roots beneath the ground , she is implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for their growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that allows children to develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to digging deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to disease. Keeping with the metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart rot disease. This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the roots, which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. Esperanza is obviously being fed infectious ideas from her misshapen community, and has begun to let it eat away at her heart. This cycle is started by the roots ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Insanity, the unsoundness of the mind, and madness are topics that are difficult to understand. However, Edgar Allen Poe s poem, The Raven presents the concept of insanity in an enchanting way. In this paper, I am going to argue that Poe s use of the image of the raven represents the narrators budding madness and could possibly be viewed as a symbol for his subconscious mind in the poem. Poe seems to structure the ravenin this way through his abstract language, form, tone, symbolism and imagery. Although The Raven is rich in symbolism, the plot is actually quite simple. In the poem, the unnamed speaker is reading and nearly napping in his home alone on a bleak December night when he hears a tapping at his door. He is in a deep sorrow over the loss of Lenorewho is assumed to be the speaker s deceased wife/lover. He discovers that it is a raven that was tapping at his door and he begins to speak to the bird who responds only with the phrase nevermore . As the poem ends, the speaker seems to have been driven into a fit of insanity because of his conversations with the raven. Like many of Poe s poems the setting of The Raven is dark and gloomy. In the first stanza, we learn that it is late at night, Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, (1). Moreover, the speaker suggests that the night was a bleak December , further cementing the dismal tone of the poem. It seems significant that Poe chose the poem to take place at midnight and in ... Two ways in which Ken could have opened this conversation productively would include 1) owning his current feelings and 2) taking responsibility for his own actions (Wood, 2012). Instead of his current opening, Ken could have said something like, Jan, I really need to speak with you. Some of the real time aspects that needs to be considered are : 1. Modeling of the network 2. Time constraints 3. Definition of task and task communication 4. Definition of hardware elements and their characteristics However, UML can be used to define and analyse a real time features of a complex system and can somewhat address the above mentioned aspects. In order to describe the modelling from the hardware and software side, we have made use of three different views to model the structure of the system namely object construction and the software structure view which plays role to describe the software architecture of the system and the third one is the system architecture view which represents the system hardware and ...
