Rebirth In Hinduism
When the charioteer of Prince Arjuna, Krishna (who is an avatar of the god Vishnu), tries to convince
the prince to fight against his own relatives, he invokes some of the core concepts of Hinduism, such
as karma, dharma, samsara, and brahman.
The avatar Krishna brought up Hindu concept of atman saying, the Eternal [atman] in man cannot die .
Hindus believe in brahman, the essence of life. The brahman in humans is the soul, or atman. As
opposed to the human body, the atman is eternal. The ultimate goal in Hinduism is to achieve moksha,
or reunion with brahman. But it takes multiple lifetimes to achieve moksha, so Hindus believe in
samsara, or rebirth. After the physical death of the human body, the atman then takes another form and
Krishna reminds Arjuna of this by saying, As...our mortal body wanders on in ... Show more content

A person has a higher chance of being united with brahman if they build up good karma throughout
their lifetime. In order to build up good karma, one must fulfill his or her dharma. Krishna repeatedly
invokes this concept of dharma. Karma is a person s actions which, if used to fulfill their dharma, lead
to good karma. Good karma results in the person s atman being reincarnated in a higher being, and so
is therefore closer to achieving the ultimate goal of moksha, or reunion with the divine. Since Prince
Arjuna is a warrior, his duty is to fight. Krishna invokes this by saying Think thou of thy duty and do
not waver. Not fulfilling one s dharma means that person will get bad karma, and therefore be farther
away from achieving the Hindu goal of moksha. Since Arjuna s duty is to fight, him not fighting, even
if it means killing his own relatives, is him not fulfilling his dharma.

Frank Senn s The Non-Denominational Church
The Non Denominational church is an alternative traditional style that speaks to me from experience.
The Non Denominational traditional style of worship is about God and his attributes. The church
flows with the Holy Spirit and believes in teaching the people the Gospel with simplicity rather than
using the pulpit to slash people or tell others business that was told them in confidence. They focus on
salvation, small group ministries, outreach ministries, and discipleship. They not traditional based but
more of a free range church. Frank Senn conveys, So freedom to be relaxed and informal is as socially
conditioned as those social restrictions which inhibit enthusiastic behavior. Being free to attend a

Transcendentalism In La Ley Innata
In La ley Innata, or the Inborn Law by the Spanish rock band, Extremoduro, vocalist Roberto Iniesta
takes us on a journey of chaos, the external and internal aspects of ourselves, and ultimately forms a
poetic and musical masterpiece. Many of the songs on the album are difficult to interpret, which, as a
whole, ends up becoming a series of beautiful words that no one understands. However, because of its
mysterious nature, we look at it from all sorts of angles in an attempt to decode as if it were some sort
of puzzle. In one of the songs, Iniesta says he is looking for [his] destiny, living a deferred life,
without being, without hearing, without giving. I personally think that these lines not only resonate
with Thoreau s transcendentalism, and that humans thrive from within, but also helps us look deep
into what it means to be human and the kind of struggles that we face because we often find ourselves
clinging to our physicality, rather than our spirituality. Furthermore, the fact that Iniesta is looking for
a destiny even though he is living life without being explains that it is his non physical aspect that is
doing the work, not his actual physical body. That being said, Mary Oliver, in Humpbacks helps us
determine how and why our non physical self gives us more answers to the bigger questions we
encounter on a day to day basis and why our physicality gets in the way.
As he looks down on society s structure, Thoreau mentions that the things which corrupt humans

Restoring The U.s. Economy Essay
Restoring the U.S. Economy
The United States of America has always been known as just that, which is united. However, lately
everyone (i.e.: news media,) has been referring to our country as just plain ol America. Could it be
because they know information about the United States that most of its own citizens are unaware of?
The answer is yes because most Americans fail to realize that for years the United States of America
has turn out to be everything but united, and this has been a result due to its ever growing wealth gap.
However, in this current period of time, minorities have been the ones to predominantly endure the
vast amounts of injustices that the gap has bestowed upon the U.S., but the wealth gap will not stay
biased towards minorities any longer. In the article Speaker Addresses Race Wealth Gap author Larry
Mitchell, quotes speaker Tim wise stating We have inherited legacies of racial injustice and
inequality... It s not our fault, but it is our burden (n. pg.) Although this problem might not affect us
directly; it does exist causing all sorts of destruction to our economy. The wealth gap is an issue that
has continuously remained a severe threat to the stability of U.S. economy. Nonetheless, the wealth
gap crisis can be reduced if not eliminated completely by the great efforts of government enforced
policies, financial resources, (funds) and job creation.
The roots of the wealth gap are ones that are deeply embedded into America s history affecting its
past,

Inception is a science fiction thriller film, directed by Christopher Nolan, which describes the complex
idea of entering dreams. A cast of character are presented near the middle of the poster in an
environment where the town curving upwards in the background, displaying that the film will defy
logic. The poster directly shows a scene from the movie, which grabs the attention of the viewer and
makes them curious. The repetition of the cast holding guns shows that there will be action and
violence within the movie. The bright red colors contrast the plain colors that are presented throughout,
adding suspense and tension to the situation. Furthermore, the lines Your mind is the scene of the

College Is A Waste Of Time Essay
Dale Stephens, founder of Uncollege, a social movement supporting self directed higher education,
has a very strong belief that college is a waste of time. In his opinion piece for CNN appropriately title
College is a waste of time , Stephens shows the downsides of going to college such as the cost of it,
the consequences of failing, and how it does not prepare you for the real world. The Wabash National
study held a survey asking college students and graduates what they came away with out of college.
With all the data they captured, the study concluded that the majority of the groups tested believe the
only things they learned from school were life lessons. The fact of the matter is, although you learn
life lessons throughout your experience in college, ultimately it is a waste of time because it does not
help you much academically.
Sixty two percent of students tested from the survey believed they have moderate to high growth in
moral reasoning. This is a no brainer, seeing that it is a common knowledge that you would pick up by
just going through your life and having form experience. Only twenty one percent of the students said
they have made a contribution to science in college. For something that people go to college for, to
learn and contribute to their specific fields of interest, this number is baffling. Out of 17,000, more
than three fourths of the students believed they have no growth or decline in contribution to the
sciences, coming in close second is

School Uniforms Are Inefficient And Unnecessary Summary
In the article , School Uniforms Are Inefficient and Unnecessary, by the American Civil Liberties
Union (ACLU) OF Nevada, the ACLU of Nevada successfully builds an argument in opposition to
institution of uniforms in school by alluding to historical precedents, appealing to patriotism, and
using ethos to foster a sense of solidarity. The ACLU of Nevada wastes no time in starting its
argument as evident in its historical reference during the introductory paragraph. The ACLU of
Nevada argues that the First Amendment, the right to freedom of speech, is granted to every American
citizen and that, students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate, an opinion
from the free speech case during the Vietnam war. Additionally, the ACLU of Nevada mentions that as
a result of the case involving the students expressing their free speech rights during the Vietnam war

American thing to do and may in itself an un American value in our youth. Through this emotional
argument the ACLU of Nevada conveys to its audience that the installment of uniforms in our
educational institutions id not only wrong, but that it goes against the American identity. As a result
when the reader reads this portion, they will not only be against uniforms because they violate the law,

How Do Chick Breathes In Its Shell
I Am conducting this experiment to understand how a chick breathes in its shell. The problem That is

in dye. The hypothesis is that the will change to the color of what every dye it is placed in.
I know that every animal requires oxygen to live. also that Birds and reptiles have hard shells. The
science that goes into my project is figuring out how chicks get air in their shell. The Scientific
principles/concepts that make the experiment work are soaking the egg in food coloring, detergent and

was the coloring entered through the shell with the help of just the dish detergent, I tried it without
dish detergent and it only colored the outside shell. The result of my experiment matched my
hypothesis. The only thing that would ve changed my results from not matching my hypothesis is if
the procedure said not to use dish detergent. The on variables that changed was the color of the outside
shell and albumin changed to blue. To to make the experiment better. They could see what happens
when you boil the egg without the dish detergent, but with just water and soap, and see if the same
result will occur. The hypothesis seems like the only logical way a chick can breath in a shell. The
hypothesis chosen was correct because when the shell was forced off inside the egg was

Northern Ireland Research Paper
The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the
late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally
ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted
during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period of
peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension two
major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly
Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Ireland to
remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However,
they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the
Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of
immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United
Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress.
The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the Unionist
party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts which were
to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. The Unionists also came to power because Nationalists

Cognition, as defined by Neisser, is all the processes by which the brain transforms, reduces,
elaborates, stores, retrieves, and uses information. Physiology refers to the structures of the human
body and brain. The relationship between cognition and physiology is bi directional, meaning that
cognition can effect physiology and vice versa. Every cognitive aspect ... Show more content on

These two stores and further divided. Explicit memory contains episodic (events) and semantic (facts).
implicit contains procedural (skills) and emotional (emotions). For amnesic patients, the problem lies
mostly with explicit memory.
There are three main ways to study the differences between the types of memories. The first is the
study of anterograde amnesic patients. For example, the study done by Spiers, Maguire and Burgess.
They studied 147 cases of anterograde amnesia with damage to the hippocampus. psychological
testing proved that all cases had impaired episodic memory and limitedly impaired semantic. This
shows that the hippocampus is responsible for episodic memory. To make the conclusion more
reliable, another study was done by Vargha and Khadem, with 3 anterograde amnesic patients, and
found the same results, except that the semantic memory was completely intact. They found that
semantic memory was localized to the cortices underlying the hippocampus.
Another way of studying the differences between the two is by studying retrograde amnesic patients. a
retrograde amnesic patient known as KC was studied to find that the damage to his hippocampus
impaired his episodic memory, but his semantic memory was still intact. The study of amnesic patients
is done in psychology to study the relations between the physiology and cognition, because the
damage to the brain can be seen easily,

Essay On Far-Right
The most prominent example of the conservative far right confronting the more liberal centrist/leftist
factions happened in November of 2016 when the Americans had to choose a president between a
conservative candidate whose platform was deeply rooted in xenophobia, tolerance of hate speech and
misogyny, and a more moderate candidate whose platform was based around maintaining the legacy
of the previous administration while securing the rights of the disadvantaged. While some countries
that also faced this decision, such as France and Austria, went for the more liberal candidate, the
Americans voted for the lousy bigot whose platform would only benefit the oligarchy by taking away

I will employ navigational capital in order to obtain an education and by doing so, fight against the
toxic narratives that the conservative media tries to push upon society by being able to call them out in
their bigotry. The reason why I would need to use my navigational capital to achieve my educational
goals is that, historically speaking, higher education institutions have not been supportive of oppressed
communities. This situation might worsen given that the volatile Donald Trump has threatened to pull
out funds from universities whose ideologies do not align with his, such as was the case for the
University of California at Berkeley, with whom Trump had an altercation after the students at the
campus rioted to protest the presence of the misogynistic and racist Milo Yiannopoulos. Later on,
Trump took to social media to express how he was willing to take away federal funding for the
university (Nelson, 2017). Seeing how turbulent the attitude of the incumbent president is and how he
and people who share his mentality are rather machiavellian individuals whose main interest is to keep
oppressing minorities, it is not a surprise that they will try to make the educational systems more
difficult to approach. It is in this situation that I will have to utilize my navigational capital in order to
carry myself through a system that was made more difficult for people like me. Luckily, as a gay

with more women standing up for equality and their constitutional rights. Where would women be

When Kelley questions the legislation of major states and brings up that women still do not have the

audience enraged that they still do not have basic rights that men have and have no say in their

Advantages Of The CAPM Assumption
CAPM Assumptions
The CAPM is often criticized for being unrealistic because of the assumptions on which it is based, so
it is important to be aware of these assumptions and the reasons for criticizing.
The assumptions are the following
 Investors with diversified portfolios
This assumption implies that investors only require a change in the systematic risk of their portfolios,
since unsystematic risk has been removed and can be ignored.
Single period horizon transaction
A standard maintenance period is assumed by the CAPM for comparable yields different values. One
more than six months, for example, can not be compared with a yield of more than 12 months. A
holding period of one year is generally used.
Investors can borrow and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the business risk of the investment project is different from the organization of investment, the
CAPM can be used to calculate a rate discount for a specific project. The procedure for this
calculation was covered in the second article of this series (specific discount rates project, Student
Accountant, April 2008).
The advantage of using a CAPM project Derivatives specific rate of discount is illustrated in Figure 2
Using the CAPM will lead to better investment decisions than the use of the WACC in the two shaded
areas, which can be represented by the projects A and B.
Project A would be rejected if WACC was used as discount rate, because the internal rate of return
(IRR) of the project is less than the WACC. This investment decision is not correct, however, since the
project A would be accepted if a CAPM the discount rate derived for specific projects is used because
the project IRR is above the SML. The project offers a larger than necessary to compensate for the
level of systematic risk, and accept that it will increase shareholder wealth

Murray Bowen Family Systems Theory
Introduction Murray Bowen s Family Systems Theory plays a key role in the field of child life. Bowen
viewed families as an emotional system, where each member is intensely connected to the other
members. In order to analyses families and human behavior, Bowen used a set of concepts. These
concepts became part of his family systems theory that we use today. Bowens family systems theory is
made up of a total of eight concepts. These concepts include Triangles, Differentiation of self, Nuclear
Family Emotional Process, Family Projection Process, Multigenerational Transmission Process,
Emotional Cutoff, Sibling Position, and Societal Emotional Process. Using these eight concepts,
Bowen was able to examine families and how they interact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some of these goals include Facilitating awareness of how emotional systems function (Brown, 1990).
This is important because it helps clients, families, and children learn about emotional systems work
and function. In addition, another goal is to increase the level of differentiation, the ability to be in
emotional contact with others yet still autonomous in one s own emotional functioning is the essence
of the concept of differentiation (Kerr Bowen. 1988). In other words, being an emotional support
system for family members, but remaining distant with one s own emotions.
As mentioned above, Bowens family system theory is made up of 8 concepts, these concepts are (1)
Emotional Fusion, (2) Differentiation of self, (3) Triangles, (4) Nuclear family emotional system, (5)
Family projection process, (6) Emotional cutoff, (7) Multi generation transmission process, and (8)
Sibling possession. The first concept that helps make up Bowen s family systems theory is Emotional
fusion or lack of differentiation. Emotional fusion is where individual choices are set aside in the
service of achieving harmony within the system (Brown, 1990). According to Brown, Emotional
Fusion can occur in one of two ways, the first can be when an individual feels 100 percent responsible
for others emotions and actions, and the other being a total emotional cutoff from the tension or
feelings within a

The proposed bill that I would like to discuss is S.150 from the 113th Congress proposed by Senator
Dianne Feinstein of California. S. 150 is a bill that would federally ban the import, sale, manufacture,

The guns would be banned based on their physical features and/or name. There are three types of fire
arms that could possibly have been banned (these are all semi automatic weapons). Semi automatic
rifles having any of the following features will be banned: a pistol grip, a forward grip, a folding

(Congressional Research Service, 2013) This bill is a severe attack on our second amendment rights. It
is over the top and does not focus on the real problems at hand. These problems at hand are mental
health issues/care and school security. This ban would stop absolutely nothing from happening in the
future. What we have here is uneducated, ignorant members of congress trying to make laws that
would go against what is guaranteed to us under the second amendment. There have been many
attempts to reinstate the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban before and in this case they cite tragedies as a
need for this recent attempt. Using the lives of children who were murdered in the most heinous way
to gain political leverage is disgusting. The Assault Weapon Ban of 2013 is a bill that is
unconstitutional, ineffective, and unfairly targets law abiding gun owners. All in the name of
protecting the people of America. The key actors in this bill are quite numerous because of the

The And Of A Democracy
There is general agreement in the field that the United States, France, Australia, India, and countless
other countries are democracies. In the same vein, political scientists are not wasting their breath
arguing that China, Saudi Arabia, and North Korea are not democracies. But, between these obvious
examples are countless examples of countries that fall somewhere in between. For political scientists,
it is often impossible to distinguish which nations are democracies, which are autocracies, and where
the line falls. There is no one agreed upon definition of a democracy, and no agreed upon set of traits
of a democracy. Some, such as those used by Dahl (What Political Institutions... 8) are dichotomous,
while others like the Freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One common trait looked for within a democracy is turnover of leadership positions. If control over
the legislature or the executive positions changes, it shows that the elections were competitive, that the
old party was willing to leave office, and that a new, different party was able to take control (Gilbert
275). Elections must be fair, often meaning they are monitored by an independent third party.
However, they must also be respected, meaning an incumbent who loses must leave office.
So, what traits are necessary for a regime to hold competitive elections? Dahl describes several traits
of a liberal democracy, with several notable traits being that the regime is responsible to the will of the
people, there is freedom of expression, independent news sources, and inclusive citizenship (Dahl
Institutions Necessary for... 6 7). Serval of these are self evident. What is the point of an election if it
does not affect the agenda of the government? Others traits require further examination.
It is obvious that sources of information not under the control of the incumbent. However, the lines
between free and unfree press are often blurry. Democracies can be considered illiberal as members of
the opposition can be denied air time or media coverage (Levitsky 53) or private journalists can be
harassed (Levitsky 54). These violations would skew the information available to the

Internal Controls And Internal Control

is the process designed, implemented and maintained by those charged with governance, management
and other personnel to provide reasonable assurance about the achievement of an entity s objectives
with regard to reliability of financial reporting, effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and
compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The term controls refers to any aspects of one or

farm workers in Coachella, California than it was led by Cesar Chavez throughout the central valley,
they demanded better working conditions from the Growers. Many Mexican American farm workers
in Delano, California started to walk off the fields, refusing to pick grapes until the demands they had
were heard. The workers were tired of inhuman treatment and the poor working conditions, ... Show

Their faith allowed them to feel stronger when the movement was taking place, it allowed them to
fight in several different ways. The movement was already in the fifth month and they had not seen
any type of change, this was when Cesar Chavez decided to start a peregrinacion to Sacramento. His
goal was to recruit or inspire as many people so they could join the movement and have a louder
voice. This brought an opportunity to take their voices all around the San Joaquin valley, they saw the
valley as a place that had been full of limitations for them and the peregrinacion made the limitations
disappear, they were able to surpass those walls, and as they walked throughout many towns more and
more people became sympathetic to their cause and joined them on this journey. When they were on
the peregrinacion their mornings began with the faith they had held they went to mass, after they
would begin to walk to the next town, following a sacred image of La Virgen de Guadalupe it gave
them hope. His nonviolence policy also had a lot to give to the movement, as years pass many of the
farm workers became frustrated at the fact that they had not seen any changes, they began to talk
about using violence against the growers, this was when Cesar Chavez began to worry about the
things they could do, and he took matters into his own hands. In 1968 he started a

The Malleus Maleficarum, By Dominican Inquisitors Heinrich...
The Malleus Maleficarum, published in 1487 and authored by Dominican Inquisitors Heinrich Kramer
and Jacob Sprenger, was used by Catholics and Protestants as a bank of knowledge on how to locate
and prosecute witches. Though the text was published in 1487, it was still used as the premier text on
witches well into the 18th century. The text is incredibly thorough, covering the topics of witch
identification, explanations of how witches make their pacts with the devil, and how to effectively
conduct a trial. This text was written to be read by upper class members of the clergy and secular
governments. The audience of this text largely informed the language and content which Kramer and
Sprenger used and included. Because of the very clear and directed audience who was intended to read
this text, the authors got away with rhetoric which would not necessarily be believed or agreed with
by the laypeople who would actually be affected by the contents of The Malleus Maleficarum. The
Malleus Maleficarum is explicitly misogynistic when addressing who can be a witch, when describing
the pact that a woman makes with the devil, and the process by which an accused witch is questioned
and tried. The Malleus Maleficarum is very explicit about which gender is more likely to practice
witchcraft. Multiple sections of the texts specifically reference the fact that women are more likely to
be witches, and gives details about why women are more likely to be coerced into witchcraft by the

The Harlem Renaissance Poets Essay
Assignment 2: Project Paper: Harlem Renaissance Poets
Karron Scott
Prof. Josiah Harry
HUM 112: World Cultures II
11/27/2012
The Harlem Renaissance was a wonderful allotment of advancement for the black poets and writers of
the 1920s and early 30s. I see the Harlem Renaissance as a time where people gather together and
express their work throughout the world for everyone to see the brilliance and talent the black
descendants harness.
The two authors I picked were W.E.B Du Bois and Langston Hughes. The reason why I picked these
two is because of the dedicated work they have flourished during the Harlem Renaissance. W.E.B Du
Bois was one of the most famous black political leaders during that time. Du Bois had a lot of talent to

One poem I chose from Langston Hughes that grabbed my immediate attention is his poem The Weary
Blues . This poem written by Hughes is very powerful to me and expresses a deep message within for
all Americans during that time; double consciousness is notable all throughout the entire poem.
Langston Hughes, who was one of the main focal points of figures of the Harlem Renaissance, tries to
remain conscientious to his African American roots in his foundation. His poem The Weary Blues is
the perfect example of double consciousness. The author of the article places an immersed question:
Was Langston Hughes able to overcome the double consciousness and take the pot luck with African
origins and roots, or did he also not know how to manage to escape from the assimilation in the
melting pot of the American culture? Reading the poem from him, he actually provides the answer,
which he states that the poet succeeds in promoting the folk (Black) tradition, having to compromise
with the compulsory framing into American (White) reality of the form and the content of the subject.
The idiopathic themes expressed in both, Langston Hughes and W.E.B Du Bois during their time
period were expounded in great detail. One line from W.E.B Du Bois poem The Song of the Smoke
said For blackness was ancient ere whiteness began , this shows the

Effects Of The British Petroleum Oil Spill

The Major Effects of The British Petroleum Oil Spill
The BP Oil spill pumped almost 200 million gallons of crude oil into the gulf of mexico, for
approximately 87 days. This became the largest and most devastating oil spill in the United States.
The coastlines of Texas, Alabama, Florida, MIssissippi and Louisiana were drastically effected by this
horrible oil spill. In the end the BP oil spill negativity impacted more than 16,000 miles of coastline.
Even today, oil is appearing on shores, and created horrible damage to living organisms in the area and
around the area. The British Petroleum Oil Spill effected the ecosystem, human health and created
many jobs in the effort to clean up the disaster. The health of the ecosystem and the Gulf of Mexico
were effected drastically by the British Petroleum Oil spill. When the Associated Press recently asked
26 scientists to grade the effects of the spill on about two dozen aspects of Gulf health, they concluded
the Gulf was 11 percent less healthy today, dropping from an average 73 to 65 on a scale of 100 to
zero (Schleifstein 1). It is apparent that the British Petroleum Oil Spill has affected the ecosystem s
health conditions drastically compared to the time prior to this tragic incident. It is evident that the
ecosystem is less sustainable than before the British Petroleum Oil Spill, proving that the spill was
detrimental to the plant and

good. With a strong set of characters, where I actually liked the majority of, and an engaging story that

Stanford Prison Experiment Essay
When put into an authoritative position over others, is it possible to claim that with this new power
individual(s) would be fair and ethical or could it be said that ones true colors would show? A group of
researchers, headed by Stanford University psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo, designed and executed
an unusual experiment that used a mock prison setting, with college students role playing either as
prisoners or guards to test the power of the social situation to determine psychological effects and
behavior (1971). The experiment simulated a real life scenario of William Golding s novel, Lord of the
Flies showing a decay and failure of traditional rules and morals; distracting exactly how people
should behave toward one another. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To ensure to have satisfactory results in his study, Zimbardo required some preconditions. One of
which was the period of time for the experiment to be conducted. He believed that one to two weeks
would be essential in providing our research participants with sufficient time for them to become fully
engaged in their experimentally assigned roles of either guards or prisoners. Having [our] participants
live in that setting day and night, if prisoners, or work for long eight hour shifts, if guards, would also
allow sufficient time for situational norms to develop and patters of social interaction to emerge,
change and become crystallized (Zimbardo, 2013). Other preconditions he had were the mentalities of
his volunteers; are they normal, healthy mentally and physically, are they without any prior history of
conviction or drug usage? Some other preconditions were to make the experimental setting bear a
resemblance as closely to a functional simulation of the psychology of imprisonment as humanly
possible. He also wanted to make sure that there was the absence of any earlier indoctrination in how
to play the randomly assigned roles; to leave that up to each participant s prior societal teachings of
the meaning of prisons and the behavioral scripts associated with the oppositional roles (Zambardo,
2005). Although he had a significantly large abundance

I Felt The Harsh Dirt Under My Feet
I felt the harsh dirt under my feet. Bobbing my head, I swayed back and forth struggling to avoid
hitting my head on the low branches that filled the dense forest. In the background of my thoughts, I
heard my friends trying to talk to me, asking me, Hey, you gonna jump? Mmm..hmmm, I replied.
Their question didn t matter to me, I wasn t interested in what they had to say, I was intensely focused
on what I was about to do. Anxiously, I went up to the edge of the cliff, and observed what I would
soon be hurdling into. Looking down, saw brown, scummy water below the dirt cliff that was keeping
the distance between me and the water. Suddenly, I felt hands on my back, and my feet left the dirt.
Without thinking, I swung my arms rapidly back and forth. Rapidly and pathetically I reached around
for something to keep me from plunging into the turbid water. There was no use, I was already
descending towards the water at a very rapid pace. My feet eventually reached the water, after what
felt like forever. I had annihilated the water that used to be as smooth as glass, because of the absence
of disturbance it once had. With the frigid water surrounding my body, chills went up my spine and
into my shoulders. While submerged in the water, I came to the conclusion that my friends and brother
probably left me, to frighten me. Why else would they pull a prank on me and leave me stranded in the
water? While drifting to the bottom of the creek, I realized that as a result of my friends

Direct Oxidation Of Methanol Lab Report
Proposed Mechanisms for the Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol
The oxidation of CH4 usually progresses to C02 and H20 because the intermediates are a series of
highly reactive radical reactions and this makes partial oxidation of CH3 into CH3OH very hard. In
addition, CH3OH oxidizes faster than CH4 and requires less energy for its oxidation. Industrial
attempts to synthesize methanol from methane is usually done indirectly since the direct methods have
low methanol specificity and yield. Current industrial methods for producing methanol involve
making synthesis gas from methane and then catalytically converting it to methanol. Several methods
are used such as steam reforming, and dry reforming. These methods require high temperature of
about 800°C, the reactions are endothermic requiring lot of energy. The end product of the reactions
also requires intensive purification from impurities such as sulfur and other compounds. Finding
feasible mechanisms for oxidation of methane to methanol cannot be over emphasized because of the
uses of methanol such as production of other chemicals like formaldehyde, acetic acid, for extraction
of sulfur and most importantly as an alternative to fossil fuels.
Due to the severe reaction conditions, energy intensive, and less efficient means of partial oxidative
production of methanol, ways of directly oxidizing methane to methanol are being investigated. Some
of the methods that have been researched are high pressure oxidation of methane in a flow system,
catalytic oxidation with copper, and gas phase homogenous oxidation where the reactors have no
stainless steel and products are prevented from contacting the wall of the reactor to improve methanol
selectivity and yield. Also, introduction of strong oxidants like N20 was explored, however, strong
oxidants are very expensive and so not feasible for industrial use.
Recent research, however, uses Methane Monooxygenases as a model. Methane Monooxygenases are
oxidoreductase enzymes commonly found in methanotropic bacteria. One of the most studied
methanotropic bacteria is Methylococcus capsulatus. It converts methane to methanol then methanol
to formaldehyde and formaldehyde to formate and carbon dioxide which is used energy

The Negative Human Impacts On The Oceans
The Negative Human Impacts on the Oceans It was Mihaljo Mesarovic, the author of Mankind at the
Turning Point , who once said The Earth has cancer and the cancer is man . He was definitely onto
something. In fact, humans have had a major negative impact on the world s marine environment.
Throughout recent human history, it has been obvious that the wellbeing of the marine environment
has been in jeopardy. Pollution of the ocean, overfishing and the greenhouse gases these are all the
aspects that can cause the destroying of the precious environments, such as reefs, sea grass and coastal
habitats. According to the essay and interview Seafarming at the End of the World , written by Peter
Meehan, he presents the fact that human impact on the ocean is the main reason that causes the awful
situation of marine ecosystem and organisms. Although the ocean covers approximately two thirds of
the Earth s surface, it is surprisingly susceptible to human influences. The effects of rubbish dumping
have tainted our oceans and they have taken their toll on the vast marine environments and the
populations in which they contain. Rubbish dumping involves depositing all the waste materials from
factories and industries, tankers and ships and sewerage waste materials into the oceans and seas. In
the report Causes and Effects of Ocean Dumping , the author Sharda states that The wastes that are
dumped into the oceans tend to have toxic substances which soak in all the oceanic oxygen. This

The Problem Of Football Club
Further to your questions and advice you require about your football club facing currently. This is a
common practice in the United Kingdom that football clubs face financial problems due to their debts
exceeding their current assets. In recent years, many football clubs went into liquidation,
administration process. This situation arises where football clubs are unable to pay their debts because
they could not control their massive expenditures. Therefore, they went insolvent or in to liquidation.
To sum up this process, the company shareholders passed the special resolution to put the company in
to liquidation or administration or Creditors take the matter to court and get the court orders against
potential debtors. All processes are done under the common law and statutes such as Insolvency Act
1986 , the Bankruptcy and Diligence etc. (Scotland) Act 2007 and the Debt Arrangement Scheme
(Scotland) regulations 2011 and the Company Act 2006. The creditors may arrest your company assets
through the process of diligence.
I start with your concerns about the arrestment of your company assets in the hands of a third party
(bank accounts, tickets, outlets etc.) by the creditors which you fear they might arrest due to the debts
that your club is unable to pay. Arrestment procedure set out in s 73A of the Debtors (Scotland) Act

respect of the debts due to the creditor and a

The Cartographer Wasps And The Anarchist Bees Summary
The Cartographer Wasps and the Anarchist Bees by E. Lily Yu tells the fictional story of the
relationship between an overpowering wasp community and a docile bee community. The wasps take
over the bees, basically rule over them, and instill their very different way of life on them. A group of
anarchist bees that oppose the wasp government secretly escape and begin a new community. The
story abruptly ends though when both the cartographer wasps and anarchist bees die from humans and
the cold. Throughout The Cartographer Wasps and the Anarchist Bees, Yu creates tension to build
toward the climax. Simply put, tension is trouble on the page. Writers use it to create conflict and
make readers uneasy, off balance, worry or hope. Yu employs tension multiple times in this piece. One
being on page 23, when the foundress wasp has the first two ambassador bees killed upon arrival and
then finally meets with the third and has a very aggressive conversation. In this scene the foundress
wasp lays out what she demands from the bees, like a portion of their food and some of their larvae.

will be able to escape their wasp rulers. When one anarsist bee is explaining to her sister about
anarchy she says this: In order to imagine a new existence, we must free ourselves from the structures
of both our failed government and the unjustifiable hegemony of the wasps nests. which foreshadows
that the anarchist bees will escape and start a new life. This scene is tension filled because it makes
readers hopeful for the bees and wonder if and how they will accomplish that

The Lifeblood On Any Online Business Is Traffic And...
The lifeblood on any online business is traffic and visibility. To get the most traffic, merchants create
affiliate programs, literally a virtual sales team to help promote their site and products. Anyone can
sign up to be an affiliate to most affiliate programs. You promote their products, they do all the
customer service, shipping, and refunds of the product. You promote, and when the merchant makes a
sale from a customer that you referred, you make a commission.
The merchant may choose to pay a flat fee or a percentage of the product s price. Let s say you re
promoting a $149 product, and the merchant pays you a 50% commission. For every sale you refer,
you earn a $74.50 commission. To track the people that you refer to the site, you re given an affiliate
link. These are links that are coded with identifiable information so that the merchant knows that the
customer came from your link and you are credited with the sale. Some merchants pay as high as 75%
commission.
Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest way to start an online business. You don t need to have a
website, products, a customer service or shipping department. You simply send traffic to the merchant
s website, and earn commissions. While it is easy to get started in affiliate marketing, you still need to
learn, understand and implement some basic business concepts to be successful.
Some of the things you will need to learn are:
1. Choosing the products that are best aligned to your chosen

We Must Spend Our Days
One week a summer, for as long as I can remember, I wave goodbye to my mom through the car

brother, little sister, and a trunk full of camping gear packed so methodically that there is a six inch
square of sight out the rear window. After a five hour drive we will be transported from the neat
suburbs of Long Island to the forests of the Adirondack Mountains, where we will be greeted by my
Aunt Carol and her dog Baxter. For this week we will sleep in a lean to looking out onto Taylor Pond
at our favorite campsite, I 3. We will spend our days in the pond and our nights around a fire. Our car

omnipresence for a while. Although we may return home with clothes reeking of smoke and bodies
covered in mosquito bites, our trip to this other world will have been well worth it. On Taylor Pond
our isolation from society cannot be confused with actually being alone. We have loons, deer, eagles,
frogs, and the occasional howling coyotes to keep us company. The loons are normally the first to

much violence that it has become so well adapted and practiced in our society that it is no longer
viewed as completely repulsive and appalling to the human mind. Violence throughout various
television programing continues to become more accepted. We, as a society, have gradually become
numb to the consequences caused by brutality. As a result, it gives an indeterminate percentage of
society the notion that violence is totally normal and socially acceptable.
Hostile creatures going out causing harm to individuals with poor reasoning or without any particular

Biblical View On Homosexuality And Religion
Biblical view on Homosexuality
In the bible God divinely established the institution of marriage, and this is seen in the garden of Eden
during creation. Marriage was a special gift to man from a loving God before the fall that led to evil
and pervasion entering the spiritual world of man. Marriage was designed by our creator to give
satisfaction to a person s deepest longings for intimacy, love, appreciation and care. The views of
marriage between Christians and Jews are fundamentally different and show the different ways that
they view the world in relation to how they interpret their own doctrine and how these views are
changing over time.
According to the Christian doctrine, reasons why people get married and traditional marriages are
becoming diminished at a faster rate than ever as the culture changes. This is very true for
contemporary culture, law, and society. A growing influence in secular ideologies and practice are
undermining biblical standards in family relations and sexual morality. Marital unfaithfulness, spousal
abuse, sex before marriage, cohabitation, pornography, and promiscuity; these among other liberated
lifestyles of married couples are bringing down the intuition of marriage. Moreover, alternative
sexualities like homosexuality included and other varieties of transgender identities are becoming
increasingly mainstream. In the course of years, the strict Christian community and Orthodox Judaism
have responded to this rapidly changing landscape

Steel and Tariffs Essay
Steel and Tariffs
We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the US
steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods
are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on
imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel
import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately though, that
hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even higher prices to
come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for their well being.
With higher prices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t
we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to
determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs
are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users
of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the
increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer.
The Argument for Tariffs
Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our
economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy
has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import
policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result,
domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises
revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of
foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign
exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic
government policies and could

  • 2. Rebirth In Hinduism When the charioteer of Prince Arjuna, Krishna (who is an avatar of the god Vishnu), tries to convince the prince to fight against his own relatives, he invokes some of the core concepts of Hinduism, such as karma, dharma, samsara, and brahman. The avatar Krishna brought up Hindu concept of atman saying, the Eternal [atman] in man cannot die . Hindus believe in brahman, the essence of life. The brahman in humans is the soul, or atman. As opposed to the human body, the atman is eternal. The ultimate goal in Hinduism is to achieve moksha, or reunion with brahman. But it takes multiple lifetimes to achieve moksha, so Hindus believe in samsara, or rebirth. After the physical death of the human body, the atman then takes another form and Krishna reminds Arjuna of this by saying, As...our mortal body wanders on in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person has a higher chance of being united with brahman if they build up good karma throughout their lifetime. In order to build up good karma, one must fulfill his or her dharma. Krishna repeatedly invokes this concept of dharma. Karma is a person s actions which, if used to fulfill their dharma, lead to good karma. Good karma results in the person s atman being reincarnated in a higher being, and so is therefore closer to achieving the ultimate goal of moksha, or reunion with the divine. Since Prince Arjuna is a warrior, his duty is to fight. Krishna invokes this by saying Think thou of thy duty and do not waver. Not fulfilling one s dharma means that person will get bad karma, and therefore be farther away from achieving the Hindu goal of moksha. Since Arjuna s duty is to fight, him not fighting, even if it means killing his own relatives, is him not fulfilling his dharma. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Frank Senn s The Non-Denominational Church The Non Denominational church is an alternative traditional style that speaks to me from experience. The Non Denominational traditional style of worship is about God and his attributes. The church flows with the Holy Spirit and believes in teaching the people the Gospel with simplicity rather than using the pulpit to slash people or tell others business that was told them in confidence. They focus on salvation, small group ministries, outreach ministries, and discipleship. They not traditional based but more of a free range church. Frank Senn conveys, So freedom to be relaxed and informal is as socially conditioned as those social restrictions which inhibit enthusiastic behavior. • 4. Transcendentalism In La Ley Innata In La ley Innata, or the Inborn Law by the Spanish rock band, Extremoduro, vocalist Roberto Iniesta takes us on a journey of chaos, the external and internal aspects of ourselves, and ultimately forms a poetic and musical masterpiece. Many of the songs on the album are difficult to interpret, which, as a whole, ends up becoming a series of beautiful words that no one understands. However, because of its mysterious nature, we look at it from all sorts of angles in an attempt to decode as if it were some sort of puzzle. In one of the songs, Iniesta says he is looking for [his] destiny, living a deferred life, without being, without hearing, without giving. I personally think that these lines not only resonate with Thoreau s transcendentalism, and that humans thrive from within, but also helps us look deep into what it means to be human and the kind of struggles that we face because we often find ourselves clinging to our physicality, rather than our spirituality. • 5. Restoring The U.s. Economy Essay Restoring the U.S. Economy The United States of America has always been known as just that, which is united. However, lately everyone (i.e.: news media,) has been referring to our country as just plain ol America. Could it be because they know information about the United States that most of its own citizens are unaware of? The answer is yes because most Americans fail to realize that for years the United States of America has turn out to be everything but united, and this has been a result due to its ever growing wealth gap. However, in this current period of time, minorities have been the ones to predominantly endure the vast amounts of injustices that the gap has bestowed upon the U.S., but the wealth gap will not stay biased towards minorities any longer. In the article Speaker Addresses Race Wealth Gap author Larry Mitchell, quotes speaker Tim wise stating We have inherited legacies of racial injustice and inequality... It s not our fault, but it is our burden (n. pg.) Although this problem might not affect us directly; it does exist causing all sorts of destruction to our economy. The wealth gap is an issue that has continuously remained a severe threat to the stability of U.S. economy. Nonetheless, the wealth gap crisis can be reduced if not eliminated completely by the great efforts of government enforced policies, financial resources, (funds) and job creation. In his opinion piece for CNN appropriately title College is a waste of time , Stephens shows the downsides of going to college such as the cost of it, the consequences of failing, and how it does not prepare you for the real world. The Wabash National study held a survey asking college students and graduates what they came away with out of college. With all the data they captured, the study concluded that the majority of the groups tested believe the only things they learned from school were life lessons. The fact of the matter is, although you learn life lessons throughout your experience in college, ultimately it is a waste of time because it does not help you much academically. Sixty two percent of students tested from the survey believed they have moderate to high growth in moral reasoning. This is a no brainer, seeing that it is a common knowledge that you would pick up by just going through your life and having form experience. Only twenty one percent of the students said they have made a contribution to science in college. For something that people go to college for, to learn and contribute to their specific fields of interest, this number is baffling. Out of 17,000, more than three fourths of the students believed they have no growth or decline in contribution to the sciences, coming in close second is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

School Uniforms Are Inefficient And Unnecessary Summary In the article , School Uniforms Are Inefficient and Unnecessary, by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) OF Nevada, the ACLU of Nevada successfully builds an argument in opposition to institution of uniforms in school by alluding to historical precedents, appealing to patriotism, and using ethos to foster a sense of solidarity. The ACLU of Nevada wastes no time in starting its argument as evident in its historical reference during the introductory paragraph. The ACLU of Nevada argues that the First Amendment, the right to freedom of speech, is granted to every American citizen and that, students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate, an opinion from the free speech case during the Vietnam war. Northern Ireland Research Paper The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period of peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension two major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Ireland to remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However, they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress. The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the Unionist party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts which were to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. They studied 147 cases of anterograde amnesia with damage to the hippocampus. psychological testing proved that all cases had impaired episodic memory and limitedly impaired semantic. This shows that the hippocampus is responsible for episodic memory. To make the conclusion more reliable, another study was done by Vargha and Khadem, with 3 anterograde amnesic patients, and found the same results, except that the semantic memory was completely intact. They found that semantic memory was localized to the cortices underlying the hippocampus. Another way of studying the differences between the two is by studying retrograde amnesic patients. a retrograde amnesic patient known as KC was studied to find that the damage to his hippocampus impaired his episodic memory, but his semantic memory was still intact. This situation might worsen given that the volatile Donald Trump has threatened to pull out funds from universities whose ideologies do not align with his, such as was the case for the University of California at Berkeley, with whom Trump had an altercation after the students at the campus rioted to protest the presence of the misogynistic and racist Milo Yiannopoulos. The Malleus Maleficarum, published in 1487 and authored by Dominican Inquisitors Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Sprenger, was used by Catholics and Protestants as a bank of knowledge on how to locate and prosecute witches. Though the text was published in 1487, it was still used as the premier text on witches well into the 18th century. The text is incredibly thorough, covering the topics of witch identification, explanations of how witches make their pacts with the devil, and how to effectively conduct a trial. This text was written to be read by upper class members of the clergy and secular governments. The audience of this text largely informed the language and content which Kramer and Sprenger used and included. The idiopathic themes expressed in both, Langston Hughes and W.E.B Du Bois during their time period were expounded in great detail. • 27. Effects Of The British Petroleum Oil Spill Adam Bobroy Ms. Kelton Composition and Literature 112 1 17 May 2016 The Major Effects of The British Petroleum Oil Spill The BP Oil spill pumped almost 200 million gallons of crude oil into the gulf of mexico, for approximately 87 days. This became the largest and most devastating oil spill in the United States. The coastlines of Texas, Alabama, Florida, MIssissippi and Louisiana were drastically effected by this horrible oil spill. In the end the BP oil spill negativity impacted more than 16,000 miles of coastline. Even today, oil is appearing on shores, and created horrible damage to living organisms in the area and around the area. The British Petroleum Oil Spill effected the ecosystem, human health and created many jobs in the effort to clean up the disaster. The health of the ecosystem and the Gulf of Mexico were effected drastically by the British Petroleum Oil spill. When the Associated Press recently asked 26 scientists to grade the effects of the spill on about two dozen aspects of Gulf health, they concluded the Gulf was 11 percent less healthy today, dropping from an average 73 to 65 on a scale of 100 to zero (Schleifstein 1). It is apparent that the British Petroleum Oil Spill has affected the ecosystem s health conditions drastically compared to the time prior to this tragic incident. It is evident that the ecosystem is less sustainable than before the British Petroleum Oil Spill, proving that the spill was detrimental to the plant and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With a strong set of characters, where I actually liked the majority of, and an engaging story that will make you become an addict of television, The 100 is definitely one to keep a look out for. Stanford Prison Experiment Essay When put into an authoritative position over others, is it possible to claim that with this new power individual(s) would be fair and ethical or could it be said that ones true colors would show? A group of researchers, headed by Stanford University psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo, designed and executed an unusual experiment that used a mock prison setting, with college students role playing either as prisoners or guards to test the power of the social situation to determine psychological effects and behavior (1971). The experiment simulated a real life scenario of William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies showing a decay and failure of traditional rules and morals; distracting exactly how people should behave toward one another. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To ensure to have satisfactory results in his study, Zimbardo required some preconditions. One of which was the period of time for the experiment to be conducted. He believed that one to two weeks would be essential in providing our research participants with sufficient time for them to become fully engaged in their experimentally assigned roles of either guards or prisoners. Having [our] participants live in that setting day and night, if prisoners, or work for long eight hour shifts, if guards, would also allow sufficient time for situational norms to develop and patters of social interaction to emerge, change and become crystallized (Zimbardo, 2013). Other preconditions he had were the mentalities of his volunteers; are they normal, healthy mentally and physically, are they without any prior history of conviction or drug usage? Some other preconditions were to make the experimental setting bear a resemblance as closely to a functional simulation of the psychology of imprisonment as humanly possible. He also wanted to make sure that there was the absence of any earlier indoctrination in how to play the randomly assigned roles; to leave that up to each participant s prior societal teachings of the meaning of prisons and the behavioral scripts associated with the oppositional roles (Zambardo, 2005). Although he had a significantly large abundance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bobbing my head, I swayed back and forth struggling to avoid hitting my head on the low branches that filled the dense forest. In the background of my thoughts, I heard my friends trying to talk to me, asking me, Hey, you gonna jump? Mmm..hmmm, I replied. Their question didn t matter to me, I wasn t interested in what they had to say, I was intensely focused on what I was about to do. Anxiously, I went up to the edge of the cliff, and observed what I would soon be hurdling into. Looking down, saw brown, scummy water below the dirt cliff that was keeping the distance between me and the water. Suddenly, I felt hands on my back, and my feet left the dirt. Without thinking, I swung my arms rapidly back and forth. Rapidly and pathetically I reached around for something to keep me from plunging into the turbid water. There was no use, I was already descending towards the water at a very rapid pace. My feet eventually reached the water, after what felt like forever. I had annihilated the water that used to be as smooth as glass, because of the absence of disturbance it once had. With the frigid water surrounding my body, chills went up my spine and into my shoulders. While submerged in the water, I came to the conclusion that my friends and brother probably left me, to frighten me. Why else would they pull a prank on me and leave me stranded in the water? While drifting to the bottom of the creek, I realized that as a result of my friends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Direct Oxidation Of Methanol Lab Report Proposed Mechanisms for the Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol The oxidation of CH4 usually progresses to C02 and H20 because the intermediates are a series of highly reactive radical reactions and this makes partial oxidation of CH3 into CH3OH very hard. In addition, CH3OH oxidizes faster than CH4 and requires less energy for its oxidation. Industrial attempts to synthesize methanol from methane is usually done indirectly since the direct methods have low methanol specificity and yield. Current industrial methods for producing methanol involve making synthesis gas from methane and then catalytically converting it to methanol. Several methods are used such as steam reforming, and dry reforming. These methods require high temperature of about 800°C, the reactions are endothermic requiring lot of energy. The end product of the reactions also requires intensive purification from impurities such as sulfur and other compounds. Finding feasible mechanisms for oxidation of methane to methanol cannot be over emphasized because of the uses of methanol such as production of other chemicals like formaldehyde, acetic acid, for extraction of sulfur and most importantly as an alternative to fossil fuels. Due to the severe reaction conditions, energy intensive, and less efficient means of partial oxidative production of methanol, ways of directly oxidizing methane to methanol are being investigated. Some of the methods that have been researched are high pressure oxidation of methane in a flow system, catalytic oxidation with copper, and gas phase homogenous oxidation where the reactors have no stainless steel and products are prevented from contacting the wall of the reactor to improve methanol selectivity and yield. Also, introduction of strong oxidants like N20 was explored, however, strong oxidants are very expensive and so not feasible for industrial use. Recent research, however, uses Methane Monooxygenases as a model. Methane Monooxygenases are oxidoreductase enzymes commonly found in methanotropic bacteria. One of the most studied methanotropic bacteria is Methylococcus capsulatus. It converts methane to methanol then methanol to formaldehyde and formaldehyde to formate and carbon dioxide which is used energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Negative Human Impacts On The Oceans The Negative Human Impacts on the Oceans It was Mihaljo Mesarovic, the author of Mankind at the Turning Point , who once said The Earth has cancer and the cancer is man . He was definitely onto something. In fact, humans have had a major negative impact on the world s marine environment. Throughout recent human history, it has been obvious that the wellbeing of the marine environment has been in jeopardy. Pollution of the ocean, overfishing and the greenhouse gases these are all the aspects that can cause the destroying of the precious environments, such as reefs, sea grass and coastal habitats. According to the essay and interview Seafarming at the End of the World , written by Peter Meehan, he presents the fact that human impact on the ocean is the main reason that causes the awful situation of marine ecosystem and organisms. Although the ocean covers approximately two thirds of the Earth s surface, it is surprisingly susceptible to human influences. The effects of rubbish dumping have tainted our oceans and they have taken their toll on the vast marine environments and the populations in which they contain. Rubbish dumping involves depositing all the waste materials from factories and industries, tankers and ships and sewerage waste materials into the oceans and seas. In the report Causes and Effects of Ocean Dumping , the author Sharda states that The wastes that are dumped into the oceans tend to have toxic substances which soak in all the oceanic oxygen. Lily Yu tells the fictional story of the relationship between an overpowering wasp community and a docile bee community. The wasps take over the bees, basically rule over them, and instill their very different way of life on them. A group of anarchist bees that oppose the wasp government secretly escape and begin a new community. The story abruptly ends though when both the cartographer wasps and anarchist bees die from humans and the cold. Throughout The Cartographer Wasps and the Anarchist Bees, Yu creates tension to build toward the climax. Simply put, tension is trouble on the page. • 36. The Lifeblood On Any Online Business Is Traffic And... The lifeblood on any online business is traffic and visibility. To get the most traffic, merchants create affiliate programs, literally a virtual sales team to help promote their site and products. Anyone can sign up to be an affiliate to most affiliate programs. You promote their products, they do all the customer service, shipping, and refunds of the product. You promote, and when the merchant makes a sale from a customer that you referred, you make a commission. The merchant may choose to pay a flat fee or a percentage of the product s price. Let s say you re promoting a $149 product, and the merchant pays you a 50% commission. For every sale you refer, you earn a $74.50 commission. To track the people that you refer to the site, you re given an affiliate link. These are links that are coded with identifiable information so that the merchant knows that the customer came from your link and you are credited with the sale. Some merchants pay as high as 75% commission. Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest way to start an online business. You don t need to have a website, products, a customer service or shipping department. You simply send traffic to the merchant s website, and earn commissions. While it is easy to get started in affiliate marketing, you still need to learn, understand and implement some basic business concepts to be successful. Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer. The Argument for Tariffs Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic government policies and could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
