Compressions In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales to communicate moral lessons of his time that still
influence society today. The Canterbury Tales is a story of a pilgrimage of twenty nine characters
to the Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, each character had to tell two tales as well as two on the
way home. These tales provided entertainment for the characters on their trip. The tales are told by
the narrator, and his viewpoints on the characters reflect Chaucer s opinions towards the characters.
The tales that each character tells are each unique to each person, but through analyzing them
further it is seen that the tales share many similarities. In both tales, the main character has a
different outer impression which hides the Pardoner s and the Wife of Bath s true inner
characteristics from society. Chaucer reveals their inner characteristics through the characters tales
and how they present them. In the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer conveys a theme that although
individuals set first impressions based on appearance, the reality of their true character is often
masked by how they appear.
The general and character prologue in The Canterbury Tales gives initial physical descriptions of
the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner which helps reinforce the theme that appearance often masks
reality. In the general prologue of the Wife of Bath, she is described at first as somdel deef which
gives her a negative outer appearance which follows her throughout her description as an attractive

The use of blue Prussian imported ink seemed to be the first thing that caught Europe s eye. This
first discovery started the wave pf admiration in French artists. Various French artists began
collecting his pieces and began showcasing them as well as imitating his prints in their own
works. This caused the works to gain acclaim and therein his influence elevated the reputation of
graphic arts in France. Based on these artist s collections and clear influence it does appear as
though Hokusai unknowingly bridged the gap of printmaking as a respectable medium for fine
artists. I believe this caused a social change in the perspectives of what their lives actually were
when observing the expansive differences of Hokusai s experience. This new perspective is clearly
shown in the adopting of his two dimension style, uncluttered composition, and thin brushstrokes;

What Is The Relationship Between Mary Shelley And...
Mary Shelley and her novel, Frankenstein
Mary Shelley, wife of Percy Shelley, became a highly respected household name after she wrote and
published her famous novel, Frankenstein, during The Romantic Period. Mary Shelley indirectly
reflects her backstory and The Romantic Period through Frankenstein, and even impacts The
Romantic Period through her novel. Evidence of both the reflection of The Romantic Period and
Ms. Shelley s impact on it are found in her background, the time period itself (as well as modern
times) and in Frankenstein. Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, and died on February 1,
1851 (Biography.com Editors). She grew up in London, England, but spent two years in Scotland
with her father s acquaintance and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these events was hating her home life because she felt her step mother resented her and
her father s relationship; which in her eyes, led to her being excluded from getting a formal
education when her stepsister was getting one (Biography.com Editors). This resulted in Mary
staying in Scotland for two whole years with her father s acquaintance and his family, and then
later fleeing England with Percy (Biography.com Editors) (Cliffsnotes Editors). The other very
important event that affected Mary s life, but especially Frankenstein, was the loss of a child
before writing her famous novel (Biography.com Editors) (Cliffsnotes Editors). It s very clear
that in Ms. Shelley s book, Dr. Frankenstein is trying to resurrect someone from the dead; having
knowledge on Mary s background actually leads many people to believe that this idea of
resurrection is coming from her wanting to bring back the only child she had ever birthed
(Biography.com Editors)(Cliffsnotes Editors). Mary fits in very naturally with the ideals of The
Romantic Period; Frankenstein, her most famous novel, clearly reflects this. In Frankenstein, the
creature is rejected from society because of his grotesque appearance, lack of manners, and lack of
intelligence. The creature being rejected by society shows that as a romantic, Mary Shelley viewed
the society in which she lived as close minded and judgmental (Cliffsnotes Editors). Mary Shelley
significantly contributed to The Romantic

Assimilation Is The Process Of Assimilation
Acculturation is the process of adaptation migrants may undergo upon the relocation to a new
society. This paper studies the influence of contact time on the process of acculturation. This is an
important subject because in today s world immigration is a common occurrence, since people
migrate for employment, family and a variety of other reasons. Therefore it is essential to
understand the elements that help or hinder an immigrant s acculturation to their new environment.
If it is in fact possible to discover these factors, it may even be possible to help make the process of
acculturation easier and allow immigrants to transition smoothly into their new lives. The article,
evidence for a sensitive period for acculturation tests the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participants of this study were Russian immigrants living in Finland and Israel. The findings
show integration and adaptation are positively related to length of time spent in the immigrant s
new country of residence. This article mentions that a longitudinal study is needed to show how
context and more specifically time affects acculturation. The sample size used in this study was
relatively small and the authors also recommend alternative methods of testing the level of
acculturation in the participants. The article, well being in cross cultural transitions, examines the
effect of acculturation and contact difference on immigrant health (Cassidy, Haslam, Ramos
Reicher, 2015). The study hypothesizes that immigrant s well being will be compromised if
acculturation preferences are not met by their new community. The results show that there are
negative implications for individuals if their contact preferences and actual contact with their new
community differed. An important limitation of this study was that it could not isolate the contact
variable, meaning it did not control for amount of contact immigrants had with their new
communities. The article, assessing acculturation over time, studies Chinese and Korean American
college students (Garcini,

Role Play Analysis
At one point in time, I hated role plays. You never know what to expect from one second to the
next. Feelings of anxiety and some nervousness always sprout up when I know there is a role
play to perform. Furthermore, the thought of acting, knowing it was not a real scenario is
daunting. Everybody would be staring at you, and this makes me slightly uncomfortable. Many
thoughts raced through my mind. For example, What if I said the wrong thing, what if I did the
wrong thing; or what if my acting skills were not up to par. Role playing made no sense to me
because, in real life situations, I knew it would be different. I would be able to respond
accordingly, and not feel judged by all of the eyes that were focused on me. As a result, my client
in real life would benefit from our therapeutic sessions. It is funny though, because once the role
playin the class started, feelings of calmness surrounded me. In addition, my gameface was on, I
was cool and collected. In part this can be attributed to the calm atmosphere my classmates
created, and also, the fact the professor met me where I was at. He portrayed an elderly individual
who was experiencing symptoms of depression. This was right up my alley as I have many years
working with the elderly population.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individuals who inspire me to be a better clinician. In this way, I can use the qualities they possess
and incorporate them into my role as a clinician. Even though the role play client was not difficult
to handle, there are those who are/will be. Learning how to handle difficult situations and difficult
people is key to success for any clinician. Therefore, I will learn skills/techniques to aid in working

Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark
Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine
Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions
with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater
good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both
speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In
Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction,
imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker
and the animals.
In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the
animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be
killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious
slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are
beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative
connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a similar strategy
to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is described as a heap . Objects
associated with the word heap are items of little to no significance. Stafford exemplifies his use of
diction

American Carnival Masks
Venetian carnival masks are a centuries old tradition of Venice , Italy . The purpose of the
masks was to hide the identity of the people who wore them . People usually wore them at
carnivals or special occasions , usually people like wearing them so they can speak to others
without them judging them for example if they ve had a rough past and they don t want people
to know how they are because maybe they wont want to speak to them , or maybe they like to
wear them so they wont have romantic encounters , or maybe they just want to tell people their
ideas or express there feeling without being judged or laughed at. There were different types of
masks for example there is the bautta mask which covers the whole face and it was a traditional
piece of art . To describe the mask you can say it has a stubborn chin line , it has no mouth and
has lots of gliding . There is also the Columbina and it is also known as Columbine and
Columbino , and this mask is a half mask and it is often highly decorated with gold , silver ,
crystals and feathers . This mask is held up to the face by a baton or it could also be tied up with

Sales Process Improvement Pl A Key Part Of The Sales
Sales Process Improvement Plan
A key part of the sales process is understanding sales across our region in a way that we can drive
marketing, sales associate performance and overall regional performance. Our current sales
tracking approach is sporadic in nature and left up to each individual sales associate, which makes
trending and decision making across the region difficult. Implementing a standardized sales
tracking process across our sales force will allow us to better understand our wins, our losses,
lessons learned from both, and the performance of individual sales associates and our collective
sales team. Selecting a process as well as the specific software from within our sales team can be

(1997). We have seen excellent financial results as we have penetrated markets, grown, and had
the luxury of economy of scale in our production which has been manageable from a change
perspective. Coming from a start up, though, our sales process is anecdotal in nature and each
sales associate is allowed to cover a district within the region using their own approaches. This has
led to sporadic tracking of client contacts, client sales, reasons for wins or losses from major
distribution proposals, increases/decreases with individual clients, and overall client satisfaction.
This lack of a solid database of sales information leads to an inability to identify trends, difficulty in
understanding true sales associate performance, and makes management decision making around
existing and new products difficult. I recommend that we implement a systematic sales tracking
process across all of our sales associates that allows for better understanding of our performance,
allows for trending of that performance, and allows for future decisions to be made based upon a
stronger base of information.
Necessary Change in Sales Tracking
A standardized process for tracking product sales integrated with a software product designed for
tracking sales will enable our sales associates to focus their efforts more effectively. Side benefits
of such a process will include better understanding of marketing effectiveness, trending of
performance by management of individual products

Appeal In To His Coy Mistress
Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress, written in the year 1681, gives readers the implication
that he was a man with progressive ideas about sex that lack concern for the common ideals and
moral standards of his lifetime. Marvell s ideas and phrases in this poem have an honest and
realistic basis. He does not sugarcoat what he is trying to say, yet he is able to poetically and
coercively make his point known to his potential mate. The speaker s opposing styles of appealin
parts one and two blossom into an eloquently convincing conclusion which will force his potential
lover into an urgent battle between her id and her superego. This analysis breaks the into thirds,
the first of which (part one), the speaker progresses slowly, as romance often does. He tries to woo
the object of his affection with beautiful words and phrases that appeal to her romantic feminine
interests. Marvel s appeal to a women s innate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not natural to act like something that you are not, and therefore is not truthful. He wants her to
rebel against that untruth. More than likely, throughout her life, she learned to perfect this
coyness, and now the speaker is breaking apart the standard she knows is true and good.
According to Oxford Dictionary s online version, quaint can be taken to mean cunningly devised
(506). Although other definitions of the word quaint exist, in this poem, the speaker obviously
puts emphasis on the coy aspect of his mistress, so it makes sense that he would (once again) point
this out in part three of his poem. He could be saying that her unwillingness to submit to him is a
result of her cunningly devised façade, or coy attitude, not her lack of desire to do so. Though
long preserved virginity, And your quaint honour turn to dust

Effects Of Technology On Music
Technological Advances in Music and its effects
Introduction
In the early years of music, musicians performed on stage with live bands and orchestras to the
locals in the community. Their music consisted of many harmonies and rhythms that would
relax the mind and ease stress. Their classical style of music had more of a string type sound, in
comparison to the rough and rugged sounds of today s music. Did this rough music affect the
way we hear things compared to their classical harmonic sounds? What technological advances in
musical devices have caused these effects if there are any? Does music now affect the way we
live compared to the music of the past? Back in the day people had no means of carrying around
music as portable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the case because headphones of the past were only used in the business industry as a way
of communication. However, before one can derive whether a particular design is prone to cause
more damage than the other, one must first understand the ear and the process of hearing. Hearing
involves the external, middle, and inner ear. The auricle is what most people consider to be the ear
itself, which is the external flesh on the outside head. Inside the auricle is a passage way known as
the external auditory meatus (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Inside are hair like structures and
ceruminous glands, which serve as the lining for the meatus. Also, the ceruminous glands produce
cerumen, more commonly known as earwax (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Together, the hairs and
cerumen provide protection to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, which separates the external
and middle ear. Sound waves, vibrations of air, pass through the tympanic membrane, causing
vibrations. Located in the middle ear are three auditory ossicles. These ossicles are the only three
bones of the ear, which are the malleus, incus and stapes. Vibrations of the tympanic membrane
also cause the ossicles to vibrate. Vibrations are amplified and transferred to the oval window, one
of the two openings, by the stapes (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). This produces movement in the
perilymph of the cochlea. Perilymph is the fluid filled

The Prayer On Public Schools
For much of the 20th Century and into the 21st, school prayer has been the focal point of an
ongoing debate about the position of religion in American civilization. The question of the legality
of prayer in public schools brings together a number of important notions in American government
and legal philosophy. Opponents and proponents of school prayer set forth their arguments in such
major constitutional issues as the separation of church and state, the right to free exercise of religion
, and the respective powers of local, state, and national governments. Since hearing its first case on
the issue in 1962, the United StatesSupreme Court has passed down at least one verdict dealing
with school prayer in each consecutive decade. In result, this makes school prayer a durable and
highly momentous topic in the fields of education and law. In the United States, there is a constant
between people being able to pray in public or not. For the supporters of public prayer, the
constitution supports their freedom of religion to be able to uplift prayers whenever they wish. For
the ones who oppose public prayer, the constitution states the separation of church and state. The
United States has had a moral decline since prayers were taken out of our schools. Until the early
20th Century, prayer was an accepted feature of public education. During the 18th and 19th
centuries, America continued a de facto Christian homeland, and public school curriculum imitated
this fact. The modern,

Suffering In Tolstoy s The Death Of Ivan Ilych
In the Death of Ivan Ilych you learn a lot about people. Ivan Ilych was an ordinary person; he had
a family, bridge set and plenty of friends. Yet when he becomes stricken with a terminal illness
everything seems to disappear. The only person that he finds comfort in toward the end of his life is
his butler. I believe that there are three themes that are more prevalent than the others. The first of
those themes is suffering, the second is modernization and the final theme is isolation. In Tolstoys
novella suffering is a major influence on the way that the novella ends. The one constant in The
Deathof Ivan Ilych, is suffering. When Ilych gets a strange disease, his body slowly starts going
to pieces and physical pain replaces his pleasant life. The author uses Ivan s death to show how
much suffering has gone beyond the physical. Ivan suffers from fear, hopelessness, and a sense of...

suggests that modern medicine is a bad thing and is showing society s refusal to come to terms
with death. Ivan Ilych s experience of death in the Death of Ivan Ilych is progressed by a
growing sense of isolation. His suffering and fear of death have the effect of completely cutting
him off from the world around him. For his friends, colleagues, and family members, life goes on
just as before. Ivan is dissapointed when he discovers that none of them seem to understand or

holds a range of services that aid the spread of information. There s no doubt that the media has
done a lot to improve the lives of those who have access to it, one way or another, but what if
media and its usage in today s context is more damaging than beneficial? Just how damaging can
it really be? How can we be aware of these dangers? Once aware of these dangers, what can be done
to guarantee future adolescents don t fall deep into its pressures?
Social media, or media in general, is worried to be one of the main culprits that might contribute to
the rapid development of body dissatisfaction, and dietary restraint, especially among adolescent
girls (Masters, McLean, Paxton, Wertheim). In particular, higher use of appearance based Internet
can be associated with lower weight satisfaction and higher drive for thinness in fifteen year old
girls, as well as contribute to the internalization of appearance ideals and body surveillance
(Masters, McLean, Paxton, Wertheim). However, these are not the only dangers present.
In an article by Nazir S. Hawi, and Maya Samaha titled, The Relations Among Social Media
Addiction, Self Esteem, and Life Satisfaction in University Students, explains what self esteem is,
and some of the addictive behaviors that can occur to those who use media. The article shares
some numbers to show a perspective on how many people actually use social media

Cell Membrane Diffusion
Question
How does changing a solution s concentration of solutes affect the movement of molecules across a
cell membrane?
Background Research
The cell membrane s function is to control what goes in and out of the cell. The membrane isolates
the area of cytoplasm from the external environment and regulates the exchange of entering and
exiting molecules. Cell membranes communicate with other organelles to function
properly.(Muskopf). A quality of the membrane is that it is selectively permeable. This means that
certain substances may pass through the membrane more easily than others. The cell membrane
consists of a phospholipid bilayer and embedded proteins.(Feldkamp, page 73). Another
characteristic of the cell membrane is the idea of passive transport. Passive transport is when
certain substances inside of the cell can move throughout the membrane without the use of the cells

The way that a molecule can move from an area of a high to low concentration is simple diffusion.
Concentration gradient is the term referring to the difference between the concentration levels. For
example, when a sugar cube enters into a water beaker, the sugar sinks to the bottom and the level
of concentration increases. The concentration of the sugar molecules goes up compared to the level
at the top of the water. Eventually, the sugar cube will dissolve and the molecules diffuse, those
molecules disperse throughout the water beaker.(Feldkamp, page 95). A different type of diffusion
is facilitated diffusion. This is the process in which molecules can not dissolve at a moderate rate
throughout the area of the membrane. An example of facilitated diffusion are carrier proteins.
Certain molecules are not able to dissolve. Carrier proteins assist the movement of these molecules
across the membrane. These proteins move the molecules from areas of high to low concentration
without the use of energy.(Feldkamp, page

Essay about Immortal Ideas In A Worn Path
Upon a first reading of Eudora Welty s, A Worn Path , it appears to be a simple story about an
old woman going into town to procure medicine for her sick grandson, who has swallowed lye
(Welty 3). After further readings and doing research, the deep meaning and depth of the story
becomes apparent. The worn path is much more than a routine route regularly traversed into town
and back to home. The protagonist Phoenix Jackson has many more layers than the way she is
perceived as an apparent no account drifter, charity case, whose only reason to head into town is to
see Santa Clause (Welty 2). There is significant meaning behind the interactions with people, places,
and objects that Phoenix crosses paths with on her journey into town.... Show more content on

Welty uses imagery to link Phoenix to a bird (Welty 2). Her cane makes a sound like the chirping
of a solitary little bird (Welty 1) . She stole a coin the same way she would have lifted an egg
from under a sitting hen (Welty 3). Her grandson, the future Phoenix, Peeps out from his little patch
quilt, holding his mouth out like a little bird (Welty 6). Phillips describes Phoenix Jackson as not
being aware of having a mythic dimension and the journey itself as having archetypal depth (419).
The title A worn Pathand not The Worn Path puts the meaning on a way of life as opposed to the
directional way (Keys 354). The path in the story Is overgrown, which contradicts a trampled worn
path like the one the title implies.
Although on the surface Phoenix is just running errands out of the deep grained habit of love
(Welty), it is her experiences on the path that she and the future generations will learn to most
from (Harris 492). After she dies, all of the knowledge and wisdom Phoenix has acquired will be
reborn in the future generation of black America through her grandson. The name Phoenix
symbolizes not only the knowledge and wisdom being reborn in the next generation but also the
end and beginning of every journey Phoenix takes. After Phoenix accomplishes the task of getting
the medicine from the doctor s office, Welty says, Her slow step began on the stairs, going down
symbolizing the start or rebirth of a

We explain how multiples are calculated and discuss the different variations that can be employed.
We discuss the differences between equity and enterprise multiples, show how target or fair
multiples can be derived from underlying value drivers, and discuss the ways multiples can be used
in valuation. For each multiple, we show its calculation and derivation from underlying DCF
fundamentals, discuss its strengths and weaknesses, and suggest appropriate use.

What Is a Multiple?
A valuation multiple is simply an expression of market value relative to a key statistic that is
assumed to relate to that value. To be useful, that statistic whether earnings, cash flow or some other
measure must bear a logical relationship to the market value observed; to be seen, in fact, as the
driver of that market value.
Two basic types: enterprise
There are two basic types of multiple enterprise value and equity:
and equity multiples s s
Enterprise multiples e xpress the value of an entire enterprise the value of all claims on a business
relative to a statistic that relates to the entire enterprise, such as sales or EBIT.
Equity multiples, by contrast, express the value of shareholders claims on the assets and cash flow
of the business. An equity multiple therefore expresses the value of this claim relative

African American Women In Films

American celebrity beyond the good, politically progressive role model versus bad, regressive
black stereotype binary that stifles dialogue and divides scholar. (Mask p. 1). Characterization of
Black female in films is harmful to their mental health. The eroticizing of African Americanwomen
as wild, sexually promiscuous, and amoral continues to be normalized by descriptors that are
widely circulated, accepted, and used to frame ideas about this population (Hooks 1992). This

The Influence Of Cartoons In Nazi Germany
A picture is worth a thousand words . This conventional and hackneyed clichГ© nevertheless holds
an essential truth that applies to images circulated in society. Not only do pictures express words,
but they also convey opinions, stereotypes, and negativity. The dissemination of images feeds the
minds of observers, and inevitably molds the opinions of viewers. Cartoonists are aware of this
knowledge and are able to channel the importance of this saying to deliver messages about
situations, groups of people, or historical events. They hold the power to influence society with the
drawings they produce and the additive features they incorporate into their cartoons.

Screening Twilight
The first idea or theme pertaining to the masochistic nature of Twilight is in the physical dangers
and eroticized pain characterizing Bella s relationship with Edward. Bella is complicit in this
relationship wherein she places herself in a supposedly weaker and dependent position in
relation to Edward. There is not one example of a time that Bella is in trouble or in pain and
Edward is not there to save her in some way. Bella s reliance on Edward begins with him saving
her from the runaway car; the amount of times he saves her implies her inability to exist in the
most mundane way without his particular guardianship. Another example of Edwards guardianship
is when Bella is having nightmares he stands over her at night to watch her and make sure no
harm comes to her, even sleeping make Bella vulnerable and Edward sees that. One last example of

These roles of power and submission also seem to repeat deeply problematic conservative attitudes
towards gender, sexual power and male dominance according to Screening Twilight, a novel by
Clayton and Harman. Edward has the power in the relationship because he is immortal, he is a
vampire, he has the strength of 1000 men, and he has complete control over Bella. Bella who is
the submissive one because she is weak in body and in mind, she lets her emotions and feeling
toward Edward rule her every move and she would quite literally do anything for her. A scene in
the movie where Bella first discovers Edward s true nature and that he is a vampire cements this
idea. He explains that he has killed people and that he has the ability and the urge to kill her. Bella
responds by saying that she isn t afraid of anything he has told her, he is only afraid of losing him

The Importance Of Online Advertising
For years, advertising agencies have been hard pressed to develop a method of communication that
online users would engage with. The most common of these approaches, banner advertisements,
and online commercials, are usually met with disdain and a lack of engagement. It is the tendency
for these approaches to be intrusive in design that causes consumers to actively and subconsciously
disconnect. Meanwhile native advertising, content developed and funded by brands, solves this
issue. By providing content, and being non intrusive in design, native advertising has been met with
positivity by online users. With current methods of online advertisingbeing considered too intrusive,
agencies should concentrate on using native advertising, as it is effective at prompting online users
to engage with the brand content.
Due to the commonality of intrusive online ads, users avoid engaging with them either actively
or subconsciously. As of 2016 PageFair, a company specializing in tracking Adblock found that
11% of the global internet population and 14% of the American online population use Adblock
(Cortland). Even if uses don t go as far as employing Adblock software, they still will actively try
and not engage with ads. Despite growth in use and revenue, online commercials usually see 59%
of millennials opt for skipping (Gallagher) This avoidance behavior is not just conscious but also
subconscious among users. Via eye tracking studies, it was found that areas traditionally home to

Delta s attempted method of dissolution would have ultimately lost because of two factors: 1) lack
of understanding of the Spanish culture and preference, as well as, 2) their lack of restaurant
experience. Further, it would decrease the chances of future successes in Spain since their
dissolution strategy will certainly be known across many industries and political networks. This
would make Delta s ability to establish new contacts, find and purchase property, apply for a food
license, hiring qualified local managers, gaining new customers and opening new stores a difficult
and costly undertaking.
As stated by Costas, Delta has insufficient capital for its planned expansion (BRS p.12) which is
required if it was to venture on its own in Spain. No longer having a partner, Delta would be
required to put up 100% of the costs necessary to expand the business, rather than the 50%
previously required. Without the contacts Terralumen has, these costs would likely rise as well. The
real estate market requires extensive knowledge, and without this knowledge, they will likely pay a
large premium.

Topic 3: Russian financial crisis (1998)
1.0 Introduction
Affected by the Southeast Asian financial crisis, Russia suffered from the financial crisis in May
1998 followed the crisis in October 1997. The crisis initially reflected on currency market and
security market. As a result, foreign capital about one third of the total amount of Russian national
debts faced large scale capital flight; exchange rate depreciated and stock market suffered a large
setback; re lending interest rate once reached up to 150%. Stock market, bond market and currency
market basically fell into halts, and banks were incapable to handle residents withdrawals. (Desai,

Therefore, the Russian government planned to issue 6 billion of European bonds in 1998. On July
13 1998, the government borrowed 22.6 billion dollars from western financial institutions led by
IMF. (Lucey and Voronkova, 2008)
Thirdly, the government prolonged the redemption date of all the debts to relieve the repayment
peak. The major problem for the Russian government was lack of debt paying ability to quick
liabilities. However, most of debts at that time were short term liabilities within one year. If the
government couldn t repay them in time, it would suffer from serious debt crisis in three years.
Therefore, the government must change the term structure of repayment and repaid quick liabilities
by borrowing funded debts. On August 1, the government published economic programs of
stabilizing the finance, but investors had no confidence about whether the programs could have
expected effects. (Shleifer and Treisman, 2000) Besides, the investors were not willing to buy
Russian negotiable securities and even dumped the securities in their hands. Facing internal and
external troubles, the government pushed three tough emergency measures such as enlarging the
region of Rouble s exchange rate fluctuations and turning the upper limit of Rouble s exchange rate
down to 9.5:1, delaying 90 days of repaying due external debts, and shifting the redemptions date of
internal debts. Later, the Central bank straightforward announced to let

Classicalism vs. Positivism
Classicalism vs. Positivism What is crime? What makes people commit crimes and how can we

Criminology is an ever growing field, mainly because there is more and more research occurring
and new theories linking people and crimecoming out everyday. Below the main field of
criminologythere are many subfields that have different theories and philosophies on what they
believe link criminal behavior. Two of the main criminology perspectives are Classical Criminology
and Positivist Criminology. Although these two are both studied in the criminology field, their

Yet another criticism is their belief in deterrence. Research has shown that there is little correlation
between punishment and crime, meaning that there is not a significant amount of information
showing that deterrence actually works leading it into a controversial issue. People commit crimes
for many different reasons that classicalists fail to acknowledge. Classical criminology was the first
big step into what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth
century. A change in the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific
method challenged the classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist
criminology emerged in the nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and
reason and started to observe and analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive
philosophy was an explicit repudiation or reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the
Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm 21). Positivism has two main elements: One is the
belief that human behavior is a function of forces beyond a person s control [and] the second
aspect of positivism is embracing the scientific method to solve problems (Siegel 7 8). . Positivism
is known for the use of science and the scientific method in their research. Positivists such as
Lombroso, whom is considered the father of criminology, set the stage for examination of external
forces

Comparing Goldman And Reiner s The Princess Bride
Since the creation of Hollywood, every decade has had a handful of films that become timeless
classics which have a profound impact on our popular culture. The 1980s was a decade that
released several classics, including The Breakfast Club, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future
among many others. One of the greatest pieces of cinema from the 1980s is The Princess Bride.
This film is an adaptation of William Goldman s novel and is directed by Rob Reiner. Goldman
and Reiner made several brilliant cinematic choices while making the film. These choices include
casting actors that fit the characters, developing a great fairy tale atmosphere, and balancing the
action and comedy. The choices that Goldman and Reiner made while creating the world of The

example of how the action is blended with comedy. While Westley dramatically sword fights with
Inigo, there are several hilarious moments such as when Inigo tosses his sword in the air. When
Westley moves on to fight Fezzik, he first simply punches the giant. Here it is amusing to see how
his attacks do nothing to Fezzik. Finally, he finishes his crusade with Vizzini. There is a dramatic
moment when viewers are lead to believe that Westley drank poison only to see Vizzini humorously

Baz Luhrmann s 2013 film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby is
exceptional in my point of view. The novel is about a young man named Jay Gatsby who had

together because of World War 1. Around the 1920 s, they were reunited through the assistance of
Nick Carraway who was Daisy s cousin, Gatsby s neighbour, and the narrator and Gatsby tried
everything in his power to make Daisy fall back in love with him by earning his wealth through
bootlegging of liquor as well as, hosting extravagant parties even though he knew she was married
to Tom Buchannan. Despite of Luhrmann s editing of the novel as the way he captured it, he was
still able to grasp the entertaining scenes and also the moral of the novel through characterization,
settings, symbolism, music and costuming.
Jay Gatsby (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best actor throughout the entire film in my
opinion because he played out his character impeccably. The actual introduction of Jay Gatsby
along with stunning fireworks in the background and the climax of the orchestra as he smile
majestically, made him seem even more extravagant. Leonardo flawlessly played the passionate
role of Gatsby and portrayed the determination of achieving wealth and power to win back his
love, Daisy Buchanan. The great acting made the audience believe as if there was a real love

Goals Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory And...
Classroom management can be based on a number of researched theories or models. Research
has shown that when incidents requiring behaviour to be managed increase, learning will
decrease (Funnell, 2009, p. 482), therefore highlighting the importance for the teacher to
implement successful strategies to restrict problem behaviour. This Essay will discuss strengths
and weaknesses of three possible theories a teacher can use to manage a classroom and the
student s behaviour. The theories to be discussed will include; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive
behavioural theory and Choice theory. Goal Centered Theory is a social discipline model of
Rudolf Dreikurs that was influenced by social phycologist Alfred Alder (Old Dominion
University, 2016). The underpinning idea to this theory is that students have a democratic say in
classroom discipline and milieu. The teachers aim is to meet to students needs satisfaction by
focussing on their social relationships, feelings, thoughts and behaviours (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014,
p. 24) in a democratic way making sure that students feel both valued and like they belong . By
meeting these needs in a democratic way teachers will not only gain more respect from their
students but will also give their students a feeling of self worth (Grandmont, 2002, p. 241). This
approach is based on the belief that students take responsibility for controlling their behaviour and
that they have the ability to make responsible decisions (Grandmont, 2002, p. 4).

into three eras. The first era covers the fifteenth through eighteenth centuries and views
globalization through the lens of individuals who struggled to overcome natural, governmental,
religious and economic barriers in their quest for wealth, freedom, position, and power. Throughout
this era, the world of commerce was encumbered by territorial boundaries. The second era covers
the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and saw great technological advances in transportation,
machinery, livability, and communication. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Republicans Fight For Economic Justice And Security
Ideologies are referred as a set of ideas and values that provides a base for organised political
action. They justify and influence the different theories of society and human nature. Ideologies
have a big impact on policy making. Democratic and Republican parties differ on their ideologies
and values, therefore, impacting policy formulation. Democrats fight for economic justice and
security in the U.S. and global economies. For example, fairness is the core principle for the
Congressional progressive caucus. It also embodies national priorities that are consistent with the
values, needs, and hopes of all our people, not just the powerful and the privilege. They want to
invest in America and create new jobs in the U.S. by building more affordable housing, re building
America s schools and physical infrastructure, cleaning up our environment, and improving
homeland security. They also want to ensure working families can live above the poverty line and
with dignity by raising and indexing the minimum wage. Whereas the Republicans believe they
shouldn t be spending money on the homeless. Conservatives believe that giving away handouts
decreases incentives to work and that, generally, welfare is the enemy of freedom. As a result, The
House bill was an attempt to end the Housing Trust Fund. Housing is a human right and people
should not have to live in poor conditions. I know someone that was homeless when he was young
and that alone affected his mental health because of the

Marx s Explanation Of Class Conflict Theory
Marx propound the power conflict known as class conflict theory. Class conflict theory first
describe the defination of history and power, in history which class had been power and how to
use that power to other people and what effect to other people. The people who had power, they
dominate the subclass people. These senario was seen in current life. Marx believe there are two
type of class, first wealthy ( those are owner of mean of production or capatalist) and second
poor ( those are working class, labor). Marx said that wealthy class people or majority of people
dominate minority people. The wealthy people has power and financially rich and they used that
power to get political power. How can they get political power? In present day, we can see that by
gaining vote to pay money for voter. Even today rich people buy political power at the cost of
money. One they get political power, they make policy by changing the outline of society then what
happen they get social power with this they dominate the working class people so that class conflict
occur. Marx said that capitalist control mean of production. Capitalist influence the school system

Toyotomi Hideyoshi s Life In Medieval Japan
In the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and
Tokugawa Ieyasu, successfully created a unified Japanese state by bringing to an end the civil wars.
The most ingenious man of those three unifiers was Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Although primarily this
examination will focus on Hideyoshi as a conquering hero , the efforts and influence that the other
unifiers had on Hideyoshi s life and society in the latter half of sixteenth century Japan will not go
entirely unnoticed. I examine the important events and changes that occurred in medieval Japan at
a time when Nobunaga and Hideyoshi successively were establishing the early modern Japanese
state.

Under the dictator Toyotomi Hideyoshi, samuraipower reached its most ostentatious development.
Balancing progress in civility by continued practice of the military arts, the samurai engaged
heavily in national and local administration simply because they were understood by the rest of
Japanese society as those who had the power to resolve conflicts and keep the peace. Himself a
samurai, and successful military leader and administrator, Hideyoshi also brought his power onto
the social prestige of the high nobility, eventually legitimating himself through the title of kampaku,
or imperial regent. Just over four hundred years earlier, at the height of samurai power, amidst the
chaos and uncertainty of civil war, the populace of medieval Japan lived under the samurai regime.
For more than seven centuries Japan was dominated by this military caste, and today it still greatly
influences social moral and spirit. Therefore, it is necessary to some degree to study and understand
the actions of the samurai, as it is from this position that Hideyoshi ultimately succeeded in winning
the tenka (the realm) and thereby serving as its ruling

The Greed In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth
Throughout society, people tend to have something that they are obsessed with, and willing to do
anything for. Some people fawn over power, and those who possess it, attempting to join their
forces in the hopes of syphoning off some of that power for themselves. Others focus on wealth,
and the ability to be control the economic wealth of everyone around you. Some may feel that they
are obsessed with love, attempting to find the perfect personto spend the rest of their life with. In
Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth, the character of Lily focuses on love, which is the main
reason for her downfall throughout the story. Through this character, Edith Wharton attempts to
convey to the reader that society was developed and raised to discriminate... Show more content on

She was able to see many inferior humans be looked at as lesser people solely because of who
they were, and not due to some legitimate factor. As a woman, she experienced this herself.
Throughout her life, despite being a very good poet and writer, she was forced to write under an
alias, due to a woman writer looking improper for the time. Her family, despite supporting her,
still wanted to make sure that the family name was not besmirched with a potential scandal
resulting from their daughter s writing. As time went on and people slowly began to get rid of
their Social Darwinism ways, she was able to write as herself, and eventually was rewarded for
her writings, winning a Pulitzer Prize as well as being nominated multiple times for the Nobel
Prize in Literature. Despite all that she was able to do for women during her time, she still could
see the problems that women had to face, being unable to make all of the decisions that a man
could make at the time, and not being as well recognized for her success. Even during her
successes, much help was needed to obtain the awards, as some people did not believe that she was

that Lily Barth faced, and that resulted in a better understanding of the Social Darwinian

Type of Research This article was based on a quantitative, exploratory study using several methods
to obtain the information. The type of research used for this article was exploratory and used a
combination of online self report Likert scale surveys as well as Path analysis. Additionally, this
article examined an alternate model was used to test a causal relationship between self compassion
and mindfulness.
Literature Review This subject is important to study for several reasons. Adolescents emotional
well being can make or break suicidal ideation, they can have positive self regard or negative, and
it can effect academic performance as well as personal relationships. This article covered stress,
and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article shares findings from another study, a meta analysis regarding the connection between
self compassion and psychopathology. I would be interested in looking this one up for further
review. Although mindfulness was not related to another study this article addresses, it did share
the correlation found between self compassion and connectedness. This correlation is something
that I see that can mitigate some suicidal ideation.
Research Question The main question posed by this article is whether or not skills in mindfulness
are able to help adolescents navigate the difficulties of their developmental stage (Bluth Blanton,
2014). Another question that was posed by the article was, if adolescents practice these mindful
techniques, will they become better equipped to handle negative emotions and events.
Research Hypothesis The hypothesis of this article was that adolescents would be able to develop
positive emotion well being and self compassion through the use of mindfulness (Bluth Blanton,
2014). It was theorized that self compassion and mindfulness were interdependent, and those who
practice the mindfulness techniques would be better able to develop positive self regard.
Methodology of Research According to the article, they conducted an online survey with sixty
seven urban high school adolescents. This was followed by the use of Path

Vladimir Lenin And The Bolshevik Revolution
According to the History.com Staff, The October Revolution began on November 6 and 7, 1917
(or October 24 and 25 on the Julian calendar). (Russian Revolution ). The October Revolution has
also been called the Bolshevik Revolution since the Bolshevik Party played a crucial role in the
revolution. The leader of the Bolshevik Party, Vladimir Leninwas a big supporter of Karl Marx.
Another Marxist who leads this revolution was Leon Trotsky. In an article by the History.com
Staff, Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d Г©tat against the provisional government. (
Russian Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than
follow an order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the
Bolshevik. Encyclopædia Britannica tells us that, Kerensky was a socialist revolutionary who
served as head of the Russian Provisional Government. ( Aleksandr Kerensky ).
According to History.com Staff, The provisional government had created a group of leaders from
Russia s bourgeois capitalist class. Lenin would alternatively call for a Soviet state that would be
controlled directly by councils of workers, peasants, and soldiers. ( Russian Revolution ). Both
decided that the Soviets was going to be a useful instrument in the next revolution. They didn t want
the Soviets to have all the power until they could control them. In the book, Rise and fall of
Communism 2009, Archie Brown shows us that, On 12 October, according to the old calendar,
Trotsky took command of the Military Revolutionary Committee of the Petrograd Soviet and on
25 October...the Bolsheviks seized power in Petrograd (Brown 51). Insurrection was to start, but
there were complications with the date set. In the book, The History of the Russian Revolution
1960, Leon Trotsky says, At a session of the Petrograd Soviet on the 18th, Trotsky, in answer to a
question raised by the enemy, declared that the Soviet had not set a date for an insurrection, in the
coming days, but that if it became necessary to set one, the workers and soldiers would come out
as one man (Trotsky 162). There were forty thousand workers in the army of Petrograd.

Biomagnification In Australia
It is known worldwide that Australia is home to many rich and vibrant marine ecosystems,
however, this could all soon be over. A silent killer is on our shores and is taking over many
marine ecosystems at a rapid rate. What is this silent killer you ask? Well it s none other than the
process of biomagnification! Now you may all be wondering what this actually is and why it is
causing all of this panic? Biomagnification is simply the increasing concentration of a substance,
such as chemicals, in the tissues of organisms at higher level within a food chain(R. K. Mehra,
2001, pp. 5335 5338). Biomagnification occurs because the chemical is absorbed faster than it can
be used or the organism cannot break it for use (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502).... Show more

Rain washes the pesticides that are used in our Australians households and then become run off in
drains and sewers. They then make their way into nearby water bodies, wether that be creeks,
rivers or even oceans and settle within the soil by sticking to small particles, including tiny living
organisms like phytoplankton (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502). Small fish consume these tiny
organisms, which may then be eaten by a larger organism and this continues until the top order
consumer is reached. The concentration that first began in the phytoplankton and has multiplied
sufficiently as it moves along the food chain. The amount of the pesticide has reached a highly
toxic level in the top order predator, whether that is birds or even humans. As a result of the
biomagnification of pesticides and other chemical the marine environment and the organisms that
live within it are heavily affected. The build up of heavy metals, for example, it interferes with
the formation of red blood cells, creates liver and kidney implications and forms reproductive
defects in many organisms. This hinders an organism s ability to survive and reproduce and can
create a decline in species

An Issue For Humans, The Natural World, And The Economy
1) The issue you have explored including why it is an issue for humans, the natural world, and the
economy.
Paper mills have been known to release toxic waste materials into the water and the air in which
they operate. This has not only happened here in Maine, but also in states such as Wisconsin and
Georgia. In Wisconsin, chemicals used in the paper making process have been found in rivers,
gaining concentration in the sediment at the river bottom (Environmental Impacts of the Paper
Industry, 2016). These chemicals are used to prevent bacterial growth in the pulp and finished
paper products (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). Poisons released into the
air in Georgia from the paper industry include nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide,
and volatile organic chemicals as well as mercury , cellulosic fibers , and chlorophenolic wood
preservatives and anti sap stains (Jackson, Standiford, Smith, Spencer, Tyler, 2014). Paper
production also involves the use of great amounts of energy, causing some mills to put up their
own energy generators or use large amounts of public power (Environmental Impacts of the Paper
Industry, 2016). To make paper, you must also have pulp, which comes from trees. These trees are
not always responsibly resourced, causing some patches of trees to be cut down completely in
places that have never been cut before, possibly in foreign countries (Environmental Impacts of the
Paper Industry, 2016). If not properly cut,

Taking a Look at the Linotype Machine
In 1885 the printing of information would change dramatically upon the invention of the Linotype
machine. Ottmar Mergenthaler s invention fostered a thriving print culture in American history.
This machine increased the production of printing with the advanced procedure known as line
casting. This allowed text to be printed one line at a time, instead of printingone typeset at a time.
This complex yet innovative machine allowed companies such as newspapers to educate the masses
in a rapid manner. By the twentieth century, many countries were using the new typesettingmachine
to educate its own people in a fast and coast efficient manner.
The Linotype machine was invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler. Mergenthaler was a German
watchmaker who migrated to America in early 1870 s. While Mergenthaler was still in his twenties
he moved to Baltimore where he began to work on machines that were used in print production.
These machines were structured to preform typewriting and lithography functions. Mergenthaler
began to envision a machine that could produce multiple castings of type. During this period there
were many inventors working on typesetting innovations. Ottmar not only wanted his machine to
produce cast type, but he wanted it to produce type in lines of text at the same time. He also
wanted the machine to stamp out matrices and cast the metal as well. To accomplish his goal,
Mergenthaler went through a lot of trial and error. By 1885 the Linotype machine was a success.

Identity And Identity In The Whore s Child By Richard Russo
The Whore s Child is a famous short story by Richard Russo. The story follows the life of a nun,
Sister Ursula, as she joins a college fiction writing course and begins writing her life story. As she
writes, with the help of her professor and the feedback from her class, she discovers more about
herself and the truth about her life. A key element of this story is the depth to which the characters
are explored, given the limited amount of time for characterization. A primary way to explore this
characterization is through the works of prominent identity theorists one of which being Canary et
al. This theory talks about some of the ways that identity is developed, through concepts such as
social cognition, schema, and the four cognitive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another key aspect of Canary s theory is that of the four cognitive processes stereotypes,
attributions, person perception, and interpersonal goals. According to Canary, stereotypes are
when categories are about people and are based on their group membership (Canary 114). In
Russo s story, Sister Ursula writes about how, as a child, she understood that her mother s being
a prostitute made her the whore s child, that her mother s wickedness diminished her father s
value (8). This excerpt from Sister Ursula s story establishes how the negative stereotypes around
her mother s lifestyle impacted her childhood. Even today, prostitution is considered dishonorable
in society, especially within religious circles, and thus, Sister Ursula s mother s stigma was
attached to her as a child, which caused her to be inherently disliked in the nun community. Again,
this could be a contributing factor to Sister Ursula s cold and steadfast demeanor, as she had to
grow up protecting herself from the judgmental gazes of her superiors and peers. Attributions are
the next facet of the four cognitive processes that can be seen in The Whore s Child. They are
defined as assessments of the cause of an action or behavior, (Canary 111) and can be both internal
and external. Internal meaning that the behavior is attributed to qualities such as

The Mentality Of War In Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five
The Mentality of War
Many people think of war hero as a title of honor and glory and therefore perceive war itself as
glorious. But, there are dangerous consequences to serving in war, not only physically but mentally.
Being in such an environment can be traumatic, and leave permanent effects. Warcan leave scarring
psychological impairments on veterans, causing them to suffer from problems such as personal
insecurities, desensitization to violence, and post traumatic stress disorder.
Serving in war, specifically returning home from war, can cause many psychological impairments
and personal insecurities, such as severe inward shame. For example, The Yellow Birds by Kevin

The movie Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan touches on the idea of how war affects your
mental state and how it can cause you to act irrationally due to PTSD. There is one specific
scene in the movie where a civilian boat rescues a man from the water, but upon hearing that
they are heading to shore to get more soldiers the man goes into a blind rage killing one of the
boys on the boat. () The mere thought of going back to the war sent the man into a full blown
mental breakdown where he wasn t in control of his actions. The stress that he felt about the war
affected him so much that it lead him to hurt a child. That is the severity of what PTSD can do
to a person. Likewise, in the excerpt of The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers, there is a man is
struggling with reentry to civilian life and his own PTSD. For example, in the excerpt he talks
about how the hot air of America is much different that the air oversees, It was quite unlike the
heat in Al Tafar, which had the surprising effect of reducing one to tears in an instant, even after
having spent hours broiling in it already. (p. 131 132). He is comparing the heat of Al Tafar,
saying that even after being in the heat for hours it can instantly bring you to tears. The effects and
conditions of war take such a mental strain on the soldiers that they can break

The Dysfunctional Relationship Of John And Sarah
Introduction
This case study will discuss the dysfunctional relationship of John and Sarah, by having a
hypothesis in place and using the family system theory concept to further apply circular
questioning to test the hypothesis will help determine where the issues started in their relationship.
The genogram will be discussed and identification of behavioural partners passed down from
generations will be explored and brief discussion around her father suicide will be addressed and
the impacts of this in her family system. Additionally John and Sarah s strengths and challenges
will be identified testing the hypothesis. Lastly a summary of John and Sarah s counselling
strategies, goal and interventions will be presented in this case study.
Hypothesis Sarah and John relationship issues have resulted in separation stemming from lack of
communication, anxiety, isolation and disconnection resulting in a dysfunctional marriage. Their
lack of interaction in their relationship and being unaware of each family members feeling and
behavior has contributed to their marriage break down. John feels, Sarah does not pay attention to
him since the kids were born. Sarah finds John irresponsible and that she needs to do look after the
responsibility in the family otherwise it would not get done. Another hypothesis is that Sarah has
experienced an unnatural death in her family by her father Max who committed suicide, which
contributes to Sarah feelings that she was to blame for his

Muscles
Muscles control the process of inhaling and exhaling. The intercostal muscles contract and move
the ribcage up and out while the diaphragm contracts, this increases the pressure inside the thoracic
cavity which causes oxygen to drawn in. when the intercostal muscles relax and move the ribcage
down and in and the diaphragm relaxes, this decreases the pressure inside the thoracic cavity which
expels the carbon dioxide.
Blood
Oxygen enters the blood stream through diffusion in the lungs, the oxygen is carried throughout
the body in the haemoglobin contained in the red blood cells. Carbon Dioxide is carried
throughout the body in the plasma of the blood and leaves the body by diffusion in the lungs.

  • 2. Compressions In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales to communicate moral lessons of his time that still influence society today. The Canterbury Tales is a story of a pilgrimage of twenty nine characters to the Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, each character had to tell two tales as well as two on the way home. These tales provided entertainment for the characters on their trip. The tales are told by the narrator, and his viewpoints on the characters reflect Chaucer s opinions towards the characters. The tales that each character tells are each unique to each person, but through analyzing them further it is seen that the tales share many similarities. In both tales, the main character has a different outer impression which hides the Pardoner s and the Wife of Bath s true inner characteristics from society. Chaucer reveals their inner characteristics through the characters tales and how they present them. In the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer conveys a theme that although individuals set first impressions based on appearance, the reality of their true character is often masked by how they appear. The general and character prologue in The Canterbury Tales gives initial physical descriptions of the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner which helps reinforce the theme that appearance often masks reality. In the general prologue of the Wife of Bath, she is described at first as somdel deef which gives her a negative outer appearance which follows her throughout her description as an attractive and ... The use of blue Prussian imported ink seemed to be the first thing that caught Europe s eye. This first discovery started the wave pf admiration in French artists. Various French artists began collecting his pieces and began showcasing them as well as imitating his prints in their own works. This caused the works to gain acclaim and therein his influence elevated the reputation of graphic arts in France. Based on these artist s collections and clear influence it does appear as though Hokusai unknowingly bridged the gap of printmaking as a respectable medium for fine artists. I believe this caused a social change in the perspectives of what their lives actually were when observing the expansive differences of Hokusai s experience. This new perspective is clearly shown in the adopting of his two dimension style, uncluttered composition, and thin brushstrokes; Various artists seen even in prints classically known in France today, such as The Nightclub Le Divan Japonais by Henri Toulouse Lautrec. There is a tangible quintessence of Hokusai and he is an undoubtedly impactful artist and will remain as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. What Is The Relationship Between Mary Shelley And... Mary Shelley and her novel, Frankenstein Mary Shelley, wife of Percy Shelley, became a highly respected household name after she wrote and published her famous novel, Frankenstein, during The Romantic Period. Mary Shelley indirectly reflects her backstory and The Romantic Period through Frankenstein, and even impacts The Romantic Period through her novel. Evidence of both the reflection of The Romantic Period and Ms. Shelley s impact on it are found in her background, the time period itself (as well as modern times) and in Frankenstein. Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, and died on February 1, 1851 (Biography.com Editors). She grew up in London, England, but spent two years in Scotland with her father s acquaintance and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these events was hating her home life because she felt her step mother resented her and her father s relationship; which in her eyes, led to her being excluded from getting a formal education when her stepsister was getting one (Biography.com Editors). This resulted in Mary staying in Scotland for two whole years with her father s acquaintance and his family, and then later fleeing England with Percy (Biography.com Editors) (Cliffsnotes Editors). The other very important event that affected Mary s life, but especially Frankenstein, was the loss of a child before writing her famous novel (Biography.com Editors) (Cliffsnotes Editors). It s very clear that in Ms. Shelley s book, Dr. Frankenstein is trying to resurrect someone from the dead; having knowledge on Mary s background actually leads many people to believe that this idea of resurrection is coming from her wanting to bring back the only child she had ever birthed (Biography.com Editors)(Cliffsnotes Editors). Mary fits in very naturally with the ideals of The Romantic Period; Frankenstein, her most famous novel, clearly reflects this. In Frankenstein, the creature is rejected from society because of his grotesque appearance, lack of manners, and lack of intelligence. The creature being rejected by society shows that as a romantic, Mary Shelley viewed the society in which she lived as close minded and judgmental (Cliffsnotes Editors). Mary Shelley significantly contributed to The Romantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Assimilation Is The Process Of Assimilation Acculturation is the process of adaptation migrants may undergo upon the relocation to a new society. This paper studies the influence of contact time on the process of acculturation. This is an important subject because in today s world immigration is a common occurrence, since people migrate for employment, family and a variety of other reasons. Therefore it is essential to understand the elements that help or hinder an immigrant s acculturation to their new environment. If it is in fact possible to discover these factors, it may even be possible to help make the process of acculturation easier and allow immigrants to transition smoothly into their new lives. The article, evidence for a sensitive period for acculturation tests the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The participants of this study were Russian immigrants living in Finland and Israel. The findings show integration and adaptation are positively related to length of time spent in the immigrant s new country of residence. This article mentions that a longitudinal study is needed to show how context and more specifically time affects acculturation. The sample size used in this study was relatively small and the authors also recommend alternative methods of testing the level of acculturation in the participants. The article, well being in cross cultural transitions, examines the effect of acculturation and contact difference on immigrant health (Cassidy, Haslam, Ramos Reicher, 2015). The study hypothesizes that immigrant s well being will be compromised if acculturation preferences are not met by their new community. The results show that there are negative implications for individuals if their contact preferences and actual contact with their new community differed. An important limitation of this study was that it could not isolate the contact variable, meaning it did not control for amount of contact immigrants had with their new communities. The article, assessing acculturation over time, studies Chinese and Korean American college students (Garcini, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Role Play Analysis At one point in time, I hated role plays. You never know what to expect from one second to the next. Feelings of anxiety and some nervousness always sprout up when I know there is a role play to perform. Furthermore, the thought of acting, knowing it was not a real scenario is daunting. Everybody would be staring at you, and this makes me slightly uncomfortable. Many thoughts raced through my mind. For example, What if I said the wrong thing, what if I did the wrong thing; or what if my acting skills were not up to par. Role playing made no sense to me because, in real life situations, I knew it would be different. I would be able to respond accordingly, and not feel judged by all of the eyes that were focused on me. As a result, my client in real life would benefit from our therapeutic sessions. It is funny though, because once the role playin the class started, feelings of calmness surrounded me. In addition, my gameface was on, I was cool and collected. In part this can be attributed to the calm atmosphere my classmates created, and also, the fact the professor met me where I was at. He portrayed an elderly individual who was experiencing symptoms of depression. This was right up my alley as I have many years working with the elderly population.... • 8. Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction, imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker and the animals. In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a similar strategy to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is described as a heap . Objects associated with the word heap are items of little to no significance. Stafford exemplifies his use of diction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People usually wore them at carnivals or special occasions , usually people like wearing them so they can speak to others without them judging them for example if they ve had a rough past and they don t want people to know how they are because maybe they wont want to speak to them , or maybe they like to wear them so they wont have romantic encounters , or maybe they just want to tell people their ideas or express there feeling without being judged or laughed at. Sales Process Improvement Pl A Key Part Of The Sales Sales Process Improvement Plan A key part of the sales process is understanding sales across our region in a way that we can drive marketing, sales associate performance and overall regional performance. Our current sales tracking approach is sporadic in nature and left up to each individual sales associate, which makes trending and decision making across the region difficult. Implementing a standardized sales tracking process across our sales force will allow us to better understand our wins, our losses, lessons learned from both, and the performance of individual sales associates and our collective sales team. We have seen excellent financial results as we have penetrated markets, grown, and had the luxury of economy of scale in our production which has been manageable from a change perspective. Coming from a start up, though, our sales process is anecdotal in nature and each sales associate is allowed to cover a district within the region using their own approaches. This has led to sporadic tracking of client contacts, client sales, reasons for wins or losses from major distribution proposals, increases/decreases with individual clients, and overall client satisfaction. This lack of a solid database of sales information leads to an inability to identify trends, difficulty in understanding true sales associate performance, and makes management decision making around existing and new products difficult. I recommend that we implement a systematic sales tracking process across all of our sales associates that allows for better understanding of our performance, allows for trending of that performance, and allows for future decisions to be made based upon a stronger base of information. Necessary Change in Sales Tracking A standardized process for tracking product sales integrated with a software product designed for tracking sales will enable our sales associates to focus their efforts more effectively. Side benefits of such a process will include better understanding of marketing effectiveness, trending of performance by management of individual products ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Appeal In To His Coy Mistress Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress, written in the year 1681, gives readers the implication that he was a man with progressive ideas about sex that lack concern for the common ideals and moral standards of his lifetime. Marvell s ideas and phrases in this poem have an honest and realistic basis. He does not sugarcoat what he is trying to say, yet he is able to poetically and coercively make his point known to his potential mate. The speaker s opposing styles of appealin parts one and two blossom into an eloquently convincing conclusion which will force his potential lover into an urgent battle between her id and her superego. According to Oxford Dictionary s online version, quaint can be taken to mean cunningly devised (506). Although other definitions of the word quaint exist, in this poem, the speaker obviously puts emphasis on the coy aspect of his mistress, so it makes sense that he would (once again) point this out in part three of his poem. However, before one can derive whether a particular design is prone to cause more damage than the other, one must first understand the ear and the process of hearing. Hearing involves the external, middle, and inner ear. The auricle is what most people consider to be the ear itself, which is the external flesh on the outside head. Inside the auricle is a passage way known as the external auditory meatus (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Inside are hair like structures and ceruminous glands, which serve as the lining for the meatus. Also, the ceruminous glands produce cerumen, more commonly known as earwax (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Together, the hairs and cerumen provide protection to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, which separates the external and middle ear. Sound waves, vibrations of air, pass through the tympanic membrane, causing vibrations. Located in the middle ear are three auditory ossicles. These ossicles are the only three bones of the ear, which are the malleus, incus and stapes. Vibrations of the tympanic membrane also cause the ossicles to vibrate. Vibrations are amplified and transferred to the oval window, one of the two openings, by the stapes (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). This produces movement in the perilymph of the cochlea. • 17. The Prayer On Public Schools For much of the 20th Century and into the 21st, school prayer has been the focal point of an ongoing debate about the position of religion in American civilization. The question of the legality of prayer in public schools brings together a number of important notions in American government and legal philosophy. Opponents and proponents of school prayer set forth their arguments in such major constitutional issues as the separation of church and state, the right to free exercise of religion , and the respective powers of local, state, and national governments. Since hearing its first case on the issue in 1962, the United StatesSupreme Court has passed down at least one verdict dealing with school prayer in each consecutive decade. In result, this makes school prayer a durable and highly momentous topic in the fields of education and law. In the United States, there is a constant between people being able to pray in public or not. For the supporters of public prayer, the constitution supports their freedom of religion to be able to uplift prayers whenever they wish. For the ones who oppose public prayer, the constitution states the separation of church and state. The United States has had a moral decline since prayers were taken out of our schools. Until the early 20th Century, prayer was an accepted feature of public education. I believe that there are three themes that are more prevalent than the others. The first of those themes is suffering, the second is modernization and the final theme is isolation. • 20. Cell Membrane Diffusion Question How does changing a solution s concentration of solutes affect the movement of molecules across a cell membrane? Background Research The cell membrane s function is to control what goes in and out of the cell. The membrane isolates the area of cytoplasm from the external environment and regulates the exchange of entering and exiting molecules. Cell membranes communicate with other organelles to function properly.(Muskopf). A quality of the membrane is that it is selectively permeable. This means that certain substances may pass through the membrane more easily than others. The cell membrane consists of a phospholipid bilayer and embedded proteins.(Feldkamp, page 73). Another characteristic of the cell membrane is the idea of passive transport. Passive transport is when certain substances inside of the cell can move throughout the membrane without the use of the cells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way that a molecule can move from an area of a high to low concentration is simple diffusion. Concentration gradient is the term referring to the difference between the concentration levels. For example, when a sugar cube enters into a water beaker, the sugar sinks to the bottom and the level of concentration increases. The concentration of the sugar molecules goes up compared to the level at the top of the water. Eventually, the sugar cube will dissolve and the molecules diffuse, those molecules disperse throughout the water beaker.(Feldkamp, page 95). A different type of diffusion is facilitated diffusion. This is the process in which molecules can not dissolve at a moderate rate throughout the area of the membrane. An example of facilitated diffusion are carrier proteins. Certain molecules are not able to dissolve. Carrier proteins assist the movement of these molecules across the membrane. These proteins move the molecules from areas of high to low concentration without the use of energy.(Feldkamp, page ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protagonist Phoenix Jackson has many more layers than the way she is perceived as an apparent no account drifter, charity case, whose only reason to head into town is to see Santa Clause (Welty 2). Her grandson, the future Phoenix, Peeps out from his little patch quilt, holding his mouth out like a little bird (Welty 6). Classical criminology was the first big step into what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm 21). The novel is about a young man named Jay Gatsby who had fallen in love with a woman named Daisy but at the first time they met, they were unable to stay together because of World War 1. Around the 1920 s, they were reunited through the assistance of Nick Carraway who was Daisy s cousin, Gatsby s neighbour, and the narrator and Gatsby tried everything in his power to make Daisy fall back in love with him by earning his wealth through bootlegging of liquor as well as, hosting extravagant parties even though he knew she was married to Tom Buchannan. Despite of Luhrmann s editing of the novel as the way he captured it, he was still able to grasp the entertaining scenes and also the moral of the novel through characterization, settings, symbolism, music and costuming. Jay Gatsby (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best actor throughout the entire film in my opinion because he played out his character impeccably. The actual introduction of Jay Gatsby along with stunning fireworks in the background and the climax of the orchestra as he smile majestically, made him seem even more extravagant. Research has shown that when incidents requiring behaviour to be managed increase, learning will decrease (Funnell, 2009, p. 482), therefore highlighting the importance for the teacher to implement successful strategies to restrict problem behaviour. This Essay will discuss strengths and weaknesses of three possible theories a teacher can use to manage a classroom and the student s behaviour. The theories to be discussed will include; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive behavioural theory and Choice theory. Goal Centered Theory is a social discipline model of Rudolf Dreikurs that was influenced by social phycologist Alfred Alder (Old Dominion University, 2016). The underpinning idea to this theory is that students have a democratic say in classroom discipline and milieu. The teachers aim is to meet to students needs satisfaction by focussing on their social relationships, feelings, thoughts and behaviours (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014, p. 24) in a democratic way making sure that students feel both valued and like they belong . By meeting these needs in a democratic way teachers will not only gain more respect from their students but will also give their students a feeling of self worth (Grandmont, 2002, p. 241). This approach is based on the belief that students take responsibility for controlling their behaviour and that they have the ability to make responsible decisions (Grandmont, 2002, p. 4). ... A silent killer is on our shores and is taking over many marine ecosystems at a rapid rate. What is this silent killer you ask? Well it s none other than the process of biomagnification! Now you may all be wondering what this actually is and why it is causing all of this panic? Biomagnification is simply the increasing concentration of a substance, such as chemicals, in the tissues of organisms at higher level within a food chain(R. K. Mehra, 2001, pp. 5335 5338). Biomagnification occurs because the chemical is absorbed faster than it can be used or the organism cannot break it for use (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502).... Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502). Small fish consume these tiny organisms, which may then be eaten by a larger organism and this continues until the top order consumer is reached. The concentration that first began in the phytoplankton and has multiplied sufficiently as it moves along the food chain. The amount of the pesticide has reached a highly toxic level in the top order predator, whether that is birds or even humans. Paper mills have been known to release toxic waste materials into the water and the air in which they operate. This has not only happened here in Maine, but also in states such as Wisconsin and Georgia. In Wisconsin, chemicals used in the paper making process have been found in rivers, gaining concentration in the sediment at the river bottom (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). These chemicals are used to prevent bacterial growth in the pulp and finished paper products (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). Paper production also involves the use of great amounts of energy, causing some mills to put up their own energy generators or use large amounts of public power (Environmental Impacts of the Paper Industry, 2016). These machines were structured to preform typewriting and lithography functions. Mergenthaler began to envision a machine that could produce multiple castings of type. During this period there were many inventors working on typesetting innovations. Ottmar not only wanted his machine to produce cast type, but he wanted it to produce type in lines of text at the same time. He also wanted the machine to stamp out matrices and cast the metal as well. To accomplish his goal, Mergenthaler went through a lot of trial and error. Task 3 Describe the role of the following in relation to the respiratory system Muscles Blood Nervous system Muscles Muscles control the process of inhaling and exhaling. The intercostal muscles contract and move the ribcage up and out while the diaphragm contracts, this increases the pressure inside the thoracic cavity which causes oxygen to drawn in. when the intercostal muscles relax and move the ribcage down and in and the diaphragm relaxes, this decreases the pressure inside the thoracic cavity which expels the carbon dioxide. Blood Oxygen enters the blood stream through diffusion in the lungs, the oxygen is carried throughout the body in the haemoglobin contained in the red blood cells. Carbon Dioxide is carried throughout the body in the plasma of the blood and leaves the body by diffusion in the lungs.
