Coping Strategies In The Military
Helping employees cope with stress is not an easy task. In this situation, we have a group whose
teamwork is breaking down because of insecurity of layoffs. Initially this stress has increased
workloads, but in the long run, these disruptions can cause productivity to decrease. This is where
knowing your employees will help you employ emotion focused coping strategies in order to pull the
team together. One of the fundamentals of managing Soldiers taught by the military is, to know your
Soldiers. In the military, it is common to get to know your subordinates work lives, as well as their
personal life after and before work. Do they have families? What is their religion? Where did they
grew up, and what is their story? These question and many more, will ultimately lead you to what
motivates them, and helps you notice when they have issues they are dealing with. Because of

If an individual from the group has a Type B personality and does not normally ask questions, the
facilitator s job is to bring out questions from each individual, so everyone participates. If issues are

Notes On Bonds And Bonds
Chapter One
Bond Basics
What are bonds?
Bonds are investment tools in form of a debt. When the government, corporate bodies, or
municipalities want to borrow from the public, they issue bonds. By investing in bonds, you are
simply lending your money to the issuer of the bond (government or a corporation) at an interest for a
given period of time. Usually bonds have a face value, which is the money being borrowed, the
coupon rate which is the interest rate to be paid to the investors and the maturity date, which is the
date you get paid the money you invested. Bonds are issued for varying period of time, may be three
months, one year or even five years.
When an organization issues a bond, it makes a commitment to you (investor) that it will make regular
(quarterly, biannually, or yearly) payment of the interest at a specified rate on the total amount it
borrowed from you (face amount) until the maturity date of the bond when it will repay the principal.
This simply means that when you invest in bonds you start earning interest regularly until the maturity
date of the bond when the issuer of the bond pays back the principle (money borrowed). Because of
the facts that you get paid interest regularly and the principle upon the maturity of the bond, this
investment instrument is often termed as a fixed income security.
Bonds alongside other investment vehicles such as term deposits and cash are often classified together
as income assets because they provide a reliable and

Excavation Sensory Play Research Paper
Dinosaur Ice Excavation Sensory Play As you know, I m a proud Daddy love spending time with my
toddler son. My wife I enjoy coming up with new and creative ideas to entertain him. Right now he s
very much into dinosaurs. Every time he sees a dinosaur toy (or anything) he says Grrr and Dine O ! It
s just the cutest thing how excited he gets over them. Over the weekend we put together this cool (pun
intended) dinosaur ice excavation sensory activity for the munchkin. I found a similar project on
Pinterest where they used balloons to freeze small toy dinosaurs and thought I would try it with
leftover Easter eggs. (Insert Link) My munchkin also had a T Rex sand mold laying around in his
beach toys so I wanted to incorporate that as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We placed the plastic bins upside down on the grass and they quickly separated from the ice. My son
stood in amazement at this awesome new finding, wondering what the heck it was. I told him that he
needed to help get the dinosaurs out of the ice. He repeated Dino? with excitement. I brought the hose
over to help speed up the melting time. My son loved playing with the hose and spraying the larger
dinosaurs off the block of ice. It was a prehistoric slip and slide. We made a game of that for a while.
We talked about how ice is cold and is made of frozen water. My son would say Brrr every time we
used the word cold . We showed him how the water melted the ice and he got into that as well. Then
we referred to the bigger dino s as the mama s and dada s and the smaller dinosaurs as the babies. He
repeated after us and would call them Mama, Dada, Baby accordingly. We continued to hatch the
babies from the eggs while explaining how eggs hatch in nature. Of course our 20 month old didn t
exactly grasp everything we were talking about, but he sure had a fun time repeating after us and

Mozart During The Romantic Period
Bach was from the late Baroque time and composed numerous pieces with counterpoint and one
subject for each development at an exceptionally consistent rhythm where the topic would be changed
and expounded on.
Mozart was from the mid Classical time frame a composed music with clear subjects gave
straightforward foundation parts supporting it pleasingly. The Classical time included pieces that had
numerous topics in a solitary development. This music likewise has a genuinely steady beat.
Beethoven was conceived in the late Classical time and essentially began the Romantic period.
Beethoven would compose clear subjects however create them a great deal more completely than
Mozart and utilized extremely complex syncopation and counterpoint in the advancement of his
topics. Beethoven likewise utilized more liquid rhythms and more prominent element differentiate in

My Understanding Of A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young...
Reading and exploring various literary pieces can be an interesting task for the young mind. By
observing myself and my peers I have developed an opinion, this opinion was reinforced by reading
How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster. There are different stages of
comprehension. Authors and readers utilize both experiences and prior knowledge quite often. My
understanding of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man By James Joyce was vastly impacted after
reading Foster s book. Instead of just reading the novel, I dove deeper into the text. Originally I might
have just said the novel was simply a sort of biography. Instead I would consider it a search of identity
and transformation of religious/spiritual perspective.

Although this is its own story, it is nothing new. Considering the idea that everything is apart of one
story, it is more of a symbiotic relationship. When you boil down the facts it is easier: young person,
feels special , wants satisfaction, falls to temptations, questions moral upbringing. Sound familiar? It s
basically 95% of teenagers. I find comfort in the thought that everything in the world is
interconnected, but I never made that connection with literature. When a reader discerns the
individuality of the text while relating with personal experience, the reading gains value.
It is no secret that Joyce is a master of symbolism and allusion. The first stage of comprehension is to
see as much information as possible. Next a reader learns how to pick out more important facts. You
know you are getting somewhere when you notice rhetorical devices while continuing to absorb the
pleasure of the story. Foster talks about how acts of communion are meaningful and representative in
stories. Joyce always makes a point to describe the meal and table. He makes it evident down to the
green and maroon accents. The untrained mind would have frivolously skimmed over the colors, even
though they represent the irish resistance and symbolize the state of politics at the time. Likewise he
alludes to the bible a multitude of times. The bible names many of the tribulations to which humans
are subjected to in their lifetimes. This vast

Why Do Silicone Rubbers Have Exceptional Weatherability
According to references [48,49,50,51]:
1) Heat and Cold resistance
Silicone rubber withstands high and low temperatures for better than organic rubbers. It can be used
indefinitely at 150 °C with almost no change in its properties. It withstands use even at 200 °C for
10000 hours or more, and some products can withstands heat of 350 °C for short periods.
Silicone rubber also has excellent resistance to cold temperatures. Some products withstand extremely
low temperatures of 100 °C and below.
2) Weatherability
Silicone rubbers have exceptional weatherability. Ozone created by corona discharge rapidly
deteriorates most organic rubbers, but has almost no effect on silicone rubber. In addition, silicone
rubber can be exposed to wind, rain and

Joseph Smith s Influence On Religion
Can you imagine taking care of 40 wives, being the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints, and fighting for his religious and civil rights? Joseph Smith, prophet and leader of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, left an important legacy on religion and American History; Smith
restored the mormon church, became prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and
was murdered for his religious beliefs.
Smith as a young kid moved often and had a desire to find the true church but he knew that none of
the churches that were on Earth while he was young were the true church. Joseph Smith was born in

Mormons believe that without Smith the true church would not have been restored on the Earth, if the
church would have not been restored both religion and American history would have been changed.
American history would have been changed because Joseph Smith became a candidate to be the
president because mormon s were being denied their religious rights and their civil rights. The one
way Smith thought to give mormons their religious and civil rights back was to become the president.
Smith was also chosen by the Lord to be prophet, Smith prayed in the woods in New York and asked
to have the knowledge of which church was the true church. Smith said, I was answered that I must
join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their
creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to
me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of
men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. The Lord answered him, many
people pray to find the true church but are not answered the way Smith was answered. Many people
are answered in a dream or with a small voice inside their head, also, Smith was answered
immediately. Most prayers are not answered immediately. Another part of Smith s legacy was being a
polygamist. A polygamist is a person

Ellen Narrative
Ellen and I were growing up and along with getting older, came more responsibility and even some
independence. By now, our mother trusted us to walk to town unaccompanied to pick up a few
groceries, happy to do so, we carried our willow shopping basket, money in one hand and a grocery
list in the other, with a note to give to the store clerk who would gather the required items for us. We
felt so grown up as we walked to the Abtsweg together, not in a group as we did when we walked to
school with our friends, but just the two of us; my sister and I, wearing matching brown coats and
perfectly starched bows in our hair. When we returned home and proudly handed Mom the basket
filled with all the correct items, she praised us endlessly and when Ted s parents phoned, boasted
about our accomplishment. They too, were pleased and realized that Ellen and I were growing up. One
afternoon, during an unexpected visit from Opa Taco and Oma Tine, our presence downstairs was
requested when they rang the doorbell upon their arrival. Wondering what was going on, Ellen and I

I am very religious just like my family. I go to church every weekend and assist with anything for the

Figurative Language In The Crossing By Cormac Mccarthy
In the passage from the novel The Crossing, the narrator describes a dramatic experience in which he
is handleing a wolf after it s passing and chooses to wait throughout the cold night to properly bury it
come morning. Cormac McCarthy uses techniques such as point of view, sentence structure, figurative
language, and imagery to convey the impact of the experience on the main character. In the first part
of the passage the narrator focuses on the man s action, characterizing the man by what he does rather
than by his thoughts or observations. There are many run on sentences, and the pace of the excerpt
fluctuates, alternating from short detached sentences such as He squatted over the wolf and touched
her fur. He touched the cold and perfect teeth. (40 41) to unusually long ones which use the

The character sits in the woods, cold and shivering in the dark, and he builds a fire for self
preservation from the cold wooded climate. The only sound he hears are the cries of the coyotes
whose cries seemed to have no origin other than the night itself (13 14). The figurative language used
helps to show the desolation the man is facing. The man fell asleep with his hands up before him like a
dozing penitent (30 31), which suggests that he was feeling some degree of guilt or responsibility for
the wolf s death. This shows the reader that the man wants to bury the wolf out of reverence and
appreciation of it s

Physical Effects Of Child Abuse
In 2011, the Children s Bureau in Maryland reports that there are 676, 569 children were victims of
child abuse or neglect in that year. Although physical abuse is very apparent and extremely visible,
physical abuse can fade away but child neglect can have consequences on children that can last a
lifetime. It might take families and friends a while to take notice to a child that is suffering of neglect.
The effects of child abuse affect each child differently. While the effects of abuse can be severe and

However, behavioral problems appears to be more likely among children who have been abused.

abused or neglected children are more likely to engage in sexual risk taking as they reach adolescence,
thereby increasing their chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease . Many studies have
shown the connections between child abuse and future juvenile delinquency. Children who have

Consumer Law Essay
Discuss the extent to which Consumer law achieves its objectives.
The most efficient way for consumers to get what they want is through the market , not the
government, but businesses have more power than their customers. Some businesses can and will use
abuse this power and cheat and steal from consumers to make money. Because of this, the government
regulates the behaviour of businesses to have a market economy that functions properly. These laws
mainly protect consumers against; misleading/deceptive representations, unconscionable conduct,
unfair contracts, and unsafe goods and/or services. To protect consumers, different legal and non legal
approaches have been taken.

Coles claims and advertises that its bread is baked today, sold today and freshly baked in store . It was
found that the bread was not, in fact, baked in Australia, but partially baked months earlier in overseas
factories. Coles accepted a guilty verdict and claimed that new packaging was already being produced.
Coles could face fines of up to $1.1 million per breach. This demonstrates how effective the ACCC is
in enforcing the ACL but penalties may not be harsher enough. For a large business, like Coles, $1.1
million is not that much of a penalty compared to the profits it makes.
Non statutory protections to help the ACL in achieving its objectives can be just as effective as
statutory protections. One protection is the media. The media is a very powerful tool and can wreak
havoc on the profitability of a business. To stay out of the harsh spotlight that is the media, businesses
tend to straighten out really quickly if found to be in breach of a section of the ACL. This helps to
protect consumers to the degree that it makes businesses comply with the law quickly but it doesn t
stop them from doing it to stat with until they get caught.
Another non statutory measure in protecting consumers is through External Dispute Resolution
Schemes (EDR). An example of an EDR is the Financial Ombudsmen Service (FOS) which helps to
protect consumers in matters regarding credit loans. The FOS is a cheaper, faster way of reaching a

Budget Planning Concerns Continued Another concern identified, is the utilities expense budget for
utilities in Year 9 which is $150,000. This amount is identified as a fixed amount and is unrelated to
actually production activities and manufacturing efficiency. Considering that production levels and
activity fluctuates throughout the year, the budget for utilities should be a variable item. An example;
from Year 7 to Year 8, the utilities expenses increase by $15,000 and with this detection, ways to

Resistance To Fight The Resistance Of The Holocaust
The word Holocaust evokes an undeniably bitter, terrifying and inhumane memory of the world s
history which should never happen again. The Holocaust occurred during WW2, between 1939 and
1945, and was introduced and organized by Adolf Hitler, the German leader of the Nazi Party at that
time. It is remembered as the killing of about six million Jews in Europe. While the Nazis were in
power, Jews were hated and believed to jeopardize the purity of Germany, so they persecuted them
and passed many anti Jewish laws. For example, Jews were obliged to wear a star of David either on
an armband or a badge so they could be identified. Then, they were arrested by the thousands, forced
to live in ghettos, and later brought to concentration camps. Some were labor camps, in which many
Jews died due to starvation, forced hard labor or diseases. However, by the early 1940 s there were
new death camps that had gas chambers to help get rid of them, like in Auschwitz. However, it is
important to note that not all Jews stayed put accepting their destiny. Many brave and determined Jews
undertook some form of resistance to fight the injustices of the Nazis. An example is Hannah Senesh,
a Jewish fighter who trained as a paratrooper so she could volunteer for an organized secret mission to
rescue Jews in Hungary who were expected to be transferred to death camps in Auschwitz. As
explained by Louise O. Vasvari, Hannah Senesh is known as a Holocaust hero in Israel and considered

Redemption is a capacity that both Amir from the remarkable novel Kite Runner, written by Khaled

that later shaped the individuals they are today. Nevertheless, throughout both stories, the protagonists
are faced with opportunities to redeem themselves, often at the risk of hurting their loved ones more
than they already have. There is a reason for everything and in Walt and Amirs case that saying is
quite evident. Walt and Amir are two completely divergent characters with opposite personalities.

between Amir and Baba is quite visible. Amir believes that Baba hates him because of the fact that
Amir s mother passed away giving birth to him. Therefore, Amir does as much as he can to get Baba
to stop hating him. Amir is determined to redeem himself to Baba s. Amir goes out of his way and

Mentoring Essay
Mentoring Like most institutions in a world of change, the age old practice of mentoring is being
influenced by new forms of work, technology, and learning. Mentoring is typically defined as a
relationship between an experienced and a less experienced person in which the mentor provides
guidance, advice, support, and feedback to the protégé (Haney 1997). Mentoring is a way to help new
employees learn about organizational culture (Bierema 1996), to facilitate personal and career growth
and development, and to expand opportunities for those traditionally hampered by organizational
barriers, such as women and minorities (Gunn 1995). The benefits of mentoring are not only work
related; it can provide individuals with opportunities to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mentoring Institute (1997) maintains that, in the past, mentoring typically just happened as
experienced people recognized and developed new talent or as beginners sought the counsel of
knowledgeable elders. Now, the institute describes a new mentoring paradigm : todays protégés are
better educated but still need a mentors practical know how and wisdom ( craft knowledge ) that can
be acquired only experientially. Therefore, many organizations are instituting formal mentoring
programs as a cost effective way to upgrade skills, enhance recruitment and retention, and increase job
satisfaction (Jossi 1997).
Many mentoring programs have been geared specifically to women and minorities as a way of helping
them break into the Old Boy Network and through the Glass Ceiling. However, the value of opening
these opportunities to all is being recognized. Gunn (1995) suggests that a more democratic approach
to mentoring is emerging, open to more employees at more levels. For example, a high level new
employee hired because of specific expertise may still need the coaching in organizational culture that
mentors can provide, a form of partnership that is a two way transfer of skills and experience (p. 65).
This more inclusive mentoring strategy is seen as an alternative to the career ladders and security that
organizations are no longer providing (ibid.). Another democratic approach is a trend toward group
mentoring in which the mentor is

Mount Vesuvius s Eruption In Italy
1. Mount Vesuvius is known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the burying and destruction of
Roman cities in Italy as well as other settlements.
The eruption ejected a cloud of stones and ache to a height of 33 km, ultimately releasing a hundred
thousand times the thermal energy released by the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
Roughly more than 1,000 people died in the eruption, but no exact numbers are unknown.
The most famous eruption occurred in 79 AD
There has been no eruptions since 1944, and none of the eruptions after 79 AD were as large or
destructive as the one that happened to pompeii.
The eruptions vary greatly in severity but are characterized by explosive outbursts of the kind dubbed
Plinian after Pliny the Younger, a Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The magnetic study revealed that on the first day of the eruption a fall of white pumice containing
clastic fragments of up to 3 centimeters fell for several hours.
Since the eruption of AD 79, Vesuvius has erupted around three dozen times.
The eruptions of 512 were so severe that those inhabiting the slopes of Vesuvius were granted
exemption from taxes by Theodoric the Great, the Gothic king of Italy.
Further eruptions were recorded in 787, 968, 991, 999, 1007 and 1036 with the first recorded lava
flows.
Vesuvius entered a new phase in December 1631, when a major eruption buried many villages under
lava flows, killing around 3,000 people.
The eruption of April 05 in 1906, killed more than 100 people and ejected the most lava ever recorded
from a Venusian eruption.
At the time of the eruption, the United States Army Air Forces 340thBombardment Group was based
at Pompeii Airfield near Terzigno Italy, just a few kilometers from the eastern base of the volcano.
Large Plinian eruptions which emit lava in quantities of about 1 kilometer, the most recent of which
overwhelmed Pompeii and Herculaneum, have happened after periods of inactivity of a few thousand

Projects with a positive NPV add value to the firm.
Cash inflows and outflows can occur at any time during the project. The NPV of the project is the sum
of the present values of the net cash flows for each time period t, where t takes on the values 0 (the
beginning of the project) through N (the end of the project).
With this formula we can also calculate the time and the amount of money the capital invested in the
project will have generate profits.
The NPV calculation provides a dollar measure of how much a project is expected to add to a firm s
value. Analysts may also want to know what the rate of return on a project is in order to compare it to
the cost of capital. This rate is called the internal rate of return, or IRR.
The IRR is the discount rate that makes the present value of the cash inflows equal to the present value
of the cash outflows. This is the same as saying that the IRR is the discount rate that makes the net
present value equal to zero.
The formula that represents the IRR is

Classic Coming of Age Stories in A White Heron by Sarah...
Reading coming of age stories are always interesting and at times nastolgic. Coming of age stories
typically include a young protagonist forced to make a grown decision which is a transition to their
first move into adulthood. In a sense, these stories show the protagonist shifting from innocence to
gaining experiences. The two coming of age stories that we read in class were A White Heron by
Sarah Orne Jewett and The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright. Both being coming of
age stories, they have similar features but were different in the sense that one protagonist seemed to
have made a shift into adulthood whereas one did not. Starting of with A White Heron , the story starts
with a mellow, quiet mood. Sylvia is walking in the woods with her companion, her cow. Jewett
includes words and phrases such as childish patience and the little girl that makes the reader grasp the
idea of Sylvia being a child. The fact that Sylvia hears the whistle of the stranger and hides also show
the idea of her being a young child. The first day meeting the stranger, Sylvia seems reserved and not
paying much attention to him talking about the white heron, even when he confesses to pay ten dollar
for anyone who helps him find it. Soon enough, Sylvia develops a crush on the hunter. She does go in
the woods with him for his needs to find the white heron but she does not disclose where the bird
could be, it seemed as if she just wanted to enjoy his company. When Sylvia goes on her

abandoned by her 18 year old mother on a highway late at night. A year or so later, She was sent to

Sheila told her that she wanted to find her mother. She had placed a few ads in newspapers in

Stuart Mill Socrates
Plato is a well known Greek philosopher, scientist, historian, and political theorist. Plato was a
disciple of Socrates. He was born in Athens in June of 427 B.C. Because he was a close follower of
the teachings of Socrates, the majority of his ideas about the system of justice and his perception of
how the system operates in society, directly represent those of Socrates. His relationship with Socrates
leads him to learn the art of crafting and shaping his own theories that identify with his own
individuality. His early efforts in defending and defining the system of justice has gained him fame in
the political field. In The Republic, Plato explains that the common perception of justice in the
contemporary world is that those who behave unjustly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be assumed that due to his intensive lifestyle and lack of emotional expression, Mill suffered
from severe depression. In the midst of his depressive state, Mill began utilizing arts as a way to
explore his feelings, before overcoming his state (King et al., 2009). After establishing a friendship
with Harriet Taylor, Mill was able to express his emotions, while furthering his intellectual work
(King et al., 2009). Eventually, they married and Mill attributes much of his philosophical work to
Taylor (Schultz Schultz, 2011). The main themes of Mill s philosophical life work, regarding the
advancement of psychology, are centred utilitarianism (King et al., 2009). As a result of the work of
Jeremy Bentham, utilitarianism is regarded as a principle of moral basis, which states that actions
should provide the greatest good for the largest amount of people (King, et al., 2009). However, Mill
differed in his views of utilitarianism, focusing on the consequences of an act and judging its worth
based on the happiness it provides (Shiraev, 2011). Futhermore, Shiraev (2011) describes Mill s view
of utilitarianism as a basis for determining if an action is correct, and if and only if, it affords pleasure
for all who are influenced by the event. Mill regarded only those individuals who were
knowledgeable, as having the ability to decide whether an action is in the best interest of all (Shiraev,
2011). In Mills book On Liberty , Mill expounds his concept of individual freedom within the context
of his ideas on history and the state. On Liberty depends on the idea that society progresses from
lower to higher stages and that this progress culminates in the emergence of a system of representative
democracy. It is within the context of this form of government that Mill

Sindhu began to wonder around the temple staring up at the building. Sunil grabbed at her arm and

Sindhu sighed and took out a red scarf from her bag and placed it over her head. She hated the way it

Literary Devices In If You Forget About Me By Pablo Neruda
Love loves to love love. James Joyce. Regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion,
race, education or economic status humankind desires love, and it s through literature and art that we
find a universal connection provided by the artist or author, and oftentimes advice to help us cope with
our humanity. For instance in If You Forget About Me , poet Pablo Neruda uses literary devices such
as tone and metaphor to represent how love can be romantic, yet volatile. For example, Neruda uses a
switch in tone from the beginning where the speaker is loving and romantic describing how,
everything carries me to you (Neruda 11). The tone changes in the middle of the poem, becoming
ominous, Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall stop loving you little by little. (Neruda
17 19). These quotes show how love can mean everything and nothing at the same time, the speaker
describes in the first quote how everything in his life revolves around his lover but if he/she decides to
fall out of love he will easily do the same. Neruda also uses a metaphor, leave me at the shore of the
heart where I have roots, Remember that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots
will set off to seek another land. ( Neruda 28 35). I believe the shore represents home, if the speaker s
love leaves him/her stranded they will quickly move on to find someone new to fill their place.
Humans will constantly seek love and relate everything around them to

Power Struggle In Literature
Power Struggles
A measure of a man is what he does with power. These wise words were once said by the classical
greek philosopher Plato, and can be applied to our society and fictional societies to this day. In
literature, it can be applied to the societies of Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl, Ponies by Kij
Johnson, and Honor to Us All from Disney s Mulan. Marxism (the theory that is used to look at
conflicts and imbalances of power in literature/societies) and Feminism (the study/advocacy of
equality for men and women rights) can be used to implement this quote into fiction. An examination
of these three stories reveals that sexism causes power struggles in societies.

Each pony represents a girls spirit: their voice, their freedom (wings), and their ability to fight back
(horns). When they go to a cutting out party, they get these things taken away from them, leaving them
powerless. This is important because there is a power imbalance and struggle between those who get
their power taken away from them and those who don t. The author is showing what could happen if
expectations are deeply ingrained into a community making it hard to break away. In these societies,
girls are objectified and have their power taken away, which creates a struggle between the sexes. A
power struggle can also be proved when characters try to defy authority. When characters defy
authority, there are often consequences. An example of this is when Sunny shows defiance in Ponies.
Sunny spins and runs.... but there are more of the others and they are bigger, and Sunny doesn t have
her wings to fly or her horn to fight. They pull her down before she can jump the fence into the woods
beyond. Sunny cries, and there is nothing, only the sound if pounding hooves from the tight circle.
(Kij Johnson, p.3). Sunny is defying the authority, which are the girls and their ponies, so the ponies
kill her. This is significant because it shows that of anything threatens the ponies/girls control, they
immediately put out the rebellion. The Girls

The Habitat Of Southern Toads
Abby Buren, Sheridan Dillon Robinson, Amber Hancock, Brett Shannon
Identifying the preferred habitat of southern toads
Introduction
St. Andrews university is a 500 acre campus consisting of many aquatic habitats, ideal for amphibians
such as frogs and toads. Amphibians are susceptible to changes in the environment and are indicators
of environmental diversity and success as well as identifiers of pollutants in the environment
(Marshall, 2013). We were interested in the prefered conditions for local toad and frog species on St.
Andrews campus, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Some aquatic environments include lakes,
ponds, creeks and a Carolina Bay. We hypothesised that toad and frog populations will be denser at the
Carolina Bay because the area provides acoustics, ideal for calling mates and also has a lot of surface
area that allows for solar heating that increases metabolism that would allow for quicker development
(metamorphosis) as well as having lots of areas to lay eggs, due to mating and offspring
developmental requirements. Frogs and toads are external fertilizers and the females lay their eggs in
the water and the males fertilize the eggs. Also, once the eggs hatch depending on the species they will
spend the first month or so of their lives in water as a tadpole until they metamorphosize into frogs or
toads. Due to this, they are more likely to be in aquatic areas during mating seasons (Partymiller, L.).
Out of the many toad and frog species in the area, we

  • 3. Notes On Bonds And Bonds Chapter One Bond Basics What are bonds? Bonds are investment tools in form of a debt. When the government, corporate bodies, or municipalities want to borrow from the public, they issue bonds. By investing in bonds, you are simply lending your money to the issuer of the bond (government or a corporation) at an interest for a given period of time. Usually bonds have a face value, which is the money being borrowed, the coupon rate which is the interest rate to be paid to the investors and the maturity date, which is the date you get paid the money you invested. Bonds are issued for varying period of time, may be three months, one year or even five years. When an organization issues a bond, it makes a commitment to you (investor) that it will make regular (quarterly, biannually, or yearly) payment of the interest at a specified rate on the total amount it borrowed from you (face amount) until the maturity date of the bond when it will repay the principal. This simply means that when you invest in bonds you start earning interest regularly until the maturity date of the bond when the issuer of the bond pays back the principle (money borrowed). Because of the facts that you get paid interest regularly and the principle upon the maturity of the bond, this investment instrument is often termed as a fixed income security. Bonds alongside other investment vehicles such as term deposits and cash are often classified together as income assets because they provide a reliable and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Excavation Sensory Play Research Paper Dinosaur Ice Excavation Sensory Play As you know, I m a proud Daddy love spending time with my toddler son. My wife I enjoy coming up with new and creative ideas to entertain him. Right now he s very much into dinosaurs. Every time he sees a dinosaur toy (or anything) he says Grrr and Dine O ! It s just the cutest thing how excited he gets over them. Over the weekend we put together this cool (pun intended) dinosaur ice excavation sensory activity for the munchkin. I found a similar project on Pinterest where they used balloons to freeze small toy dinosaurs and thought I would try it with leftover Easter eggs. (Insert Link) My munchkin also had a T Rex sand mold laying around in his beach toys so I wanted to incorporate that as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We placed the plastic bins upside down on the grass and they quickly separated from the ice. My son stood in amazement at this awesome new finding, wondering what the heck it was. I told him that he needed to help get the dinosaurs out of the ice. He repeated Dino? with excitement. I brought the hose over to help speed up the melting time. My son loved playing with the hose and spraying the larger dinosaurs off the block of ice. It was a prehistoric slip and slide. We made a game of that for a while. We talked about how ice is cold and is made of frozen water. My son would say Brrr every time we used the word cold . We showed him how the water melted the ice and he got into that as well. Then we referred to the bigger dino s as the mama s and dada s and the smaller dinosaurs as the babies. He repeated after us and would call them Mama, Dada, Baby accordingly. We continued to hatch the babies from the eggs while explaining how eggs hatch in nature. Of course our 20 month old didn t exactly grasp everything we were talking about, but he sure had a fun time repeating after us and going through the motions of dino ... • 6. My Understanding Of A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young... Reading and exploring various literary pieces can be an interesting task for the young mind. By observing myself and my peers I have developed an opinion, this opinion was reinforced by reading How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster. There are different stages of comprehension. Authors and readers utilize both experiences and prior knowledge quite often. My understanding of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man By James Joyce was vastly impacted after reading Foster s book. Instead of just reading the novel, I dove deeper into the text. Originally I might have just said the novel was simply a sort of biography. Instead I would consider it a search of identity and transformation of religious/spiritual perspective. Prior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is its own story, it is nothing new. Considering the idea that everything is apart of one story, it is more of a symbiotic relationship. When you boil down the facts it is easier: young person, feels special , wants satisfaction, falls to temptations, questions moral upbringing. Sound familiar? It s basically 95% of teenagers. I find comfort in the thought that everything in the world is interconnected, but I never made that connection with literature. When a reader discerns the individuality of the text while relating with personal experience, the reading gains value. It is no secret that Joyce is a master of symbolism and allusion. The first stage of comprehension is to see as much information as possible. Next a reader learns how to pick out more important facts. You know you are getting somewhere when you notice rhetorical devices while continuing to absorb the pleasure of the story. Foster talks about how acts of communion are meaningful and representative in stories. Joyce always makes a point to describe the meal and table. He makes it evident down to the green and maroon accents. The untrained mind would have frivolously skimmed over the colors, even though they represent the irish resistance and symbolize the state of politics at the time. Likewise he alludes to the bible a multitude of times. The bible names many of the tribulations to which humans are subjected to in their lifetimes. This vast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Do Silicone Rubbers Have Exceptional Weatherability According to references [48,49,50,51]: 1) Heat and Cold resistance Silicone rubber withstands high and low temperatures for better than organic rubbers. Joseph Smith s Influence On Religion Can you imagine taking care of 40 wives, being the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and fighting for his religious and civil rights? Joseph Smith, prophet and leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, left an important legacy on religion and American History; Smith restored the mormon church, became prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was murdered for his religious beliefs. Smith as a young kid moved often and had a desire to find the true church but he knew that none of the churches that were on Earth while he was young were the true church. Mormons believe that without Smith the true church would not have been restored on the Earth, if the church would have not been restored both religion and American history would have been changed. American history would have been changed because Joseph Smith became a candidate to be the president because mormon s were being denied their religious rights and their civil rights. The one way Smith thought to give mormons their religious and civil rights back was to become the president. Smith was also chosen by the Lord to be prophet, Smith prayed in the woods in New York and asked to have the knowledge of which church was the true church. Smith said, I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. • 10. Ellen Narrative Ellen and I were growing up and along with getting older, came more responsibility and even some independence. By now, our mother trusted us to walk to town unaccompanied to pick up a few groceries, happy to do so, we carried our willow shopping basket, money in one hand and a grocery list in the other, with a note to give to the store clerk who would gather the required items for us. We felt so grown up as we walked to the Abtsweg together, not in a group as we did when we walked to school with our friends, but just the two of us; my sister and I, wearing matching brown coats and perfectly starched bows in our hair. Figurative Language In The Crossing By Cormac Mccarthy In the passage from the novel The Crossing, the narrator describes a dramatic experience in which he is handleing a wolf after it s passing and chooses to wait throughout the cold night to properly bury it come morning. The most efficient way for consumers to get what they want is through the market , not the government, but businesses have more power than their customers. Because of this, the government regulates the behaviour of businesses to have a market economy that functions properly. It was found that the bread was not, in fact, baked in Australia, but partially baked months earlier in overseas factories. This demonstrates how effective the ACCC is in enforcing the ACL but penalties may not be harsher enough. For a large business, like Coles, $1.1 million is not that much of a penalty compared to the profits it makes. Non statutory protections to help the ACL in achieving its objectives can be just as effective as statutory protections. One protection is the media. The media is a very powerful tool and can wreak havoc on the profitability of a business. To stay out of the harsh spotlight that is the media, businesses tend to straighten out really quickly if found to be in breach of a section of the ACL. This helps to protect consumers to the degree that it makes businesses comply with the law quickly but it doesn t stop them from doing it to stat with until they get caught. Another non statutory measure in protecting consumers is through External Dispute Resolution Schemes (EDR). An example of an EDR is the Financial Ombudsmen Service (FOS) which helps to protect consumers in matters regarding credit loans. The FOS is a cheaper, faster way of reaching a solution to ... The Holocaust occurred during WW2, between 1939 and 1945, and was introduced and organized by Adolf Hitler, the German leader of the Nazi Party at that time. It is remembered as the killing of about six million Jews in Europe. While the Nazis were in power, Jews were hated and believed to jeopardize the purity of Germany, so they persecuted them and passed many anti Jewish laws. For example, Jews were obliged to wear a star of David either on an armband or a badge so they could be identified. Then, they were arrested by the thousands, forced to live in ghettos, and later brought to concentration camps. Some were labor camps, in which many Jews died due to starvation, forced hard labor or diseases. However, by the early 1940 s there were new death camps that had gas chambers to help get rid of them, like in Auschwitz. However, it is important to note that not all Jews stayed put accepting their destiny. Many brave and determined Jews undertook some form of resistance to fight the injustices of the Nazis. An example is Hannah Senesh, a Jewish fighter who trained as a paratrooper so she could volunteer for an organized secret mission to rescue Jews in Hungary who were expected to be transferred to death camps in Auschwitz. Mentoring is typically defined as a relationship between an experienced and a less experienced person in which the mentor provides guidance, advice, support, and feedback to the protégé (Haney 1997). Mentoring is a way to help new employees learn about organizational culture (Bierema 1996), to facilitate personal and career growth and development, and to expand opportunities for those traditionally hampered by organizational barriers, such as women and minorities (Gunn 1995). Therefore, many organizations are instituting formal mentoring programs as a cost effective way to upgrade skills, enhance recruitment and retention, and increase job satisfaction (Jossi 1997). Many mentoring programs have been geared specifically to women and minorities as a way of helping them break into the Old Boy Network and through the Glass Ceiling. This more inclusive mentoring strategy is seen as an alternative to the career ladders and security that organizations are no longer providing (ibid.). Coming of age stories typically include a young protagonist forced to make a grown decision which is a transition to their first move into adulthood. In a sense, these stories show the protagonist shifting from innocence to gaining experiences. The two coming of age stories that we read in class were A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett and The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright. Both being coming of age stories, they have similar features but were different in the sense that one protagonist seemed to have made a shift into adulthood whereas one did not. Starting of with A White Heron , the story starts with a mellow, quiet mood. Sylvia is walking in the woods with her companion, her cow. Jewett includes words and phrases such as childish patience and the little girl that makes the reader grasp the idea of Sylvia being a child. The fact that Sylvia hears the whistle of the stranger and hides also show the idea of her being a young child. His relationship with Socrates leads him to learn the art of crafting and shaping his own theories that identify with his own individuality. His early efforts in defending and defining the system of justice has gained him fame in the political field. In The Republic, Plato explains that the common perception of justice in the contemporary world is that those who behave unjustly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be assumed that due to his intensive lifestyle and lack of emotional expression, Mill suffered from severe depression. In the midst of his depressive state, Mill began utilizing arts as a way to explore his feelings, before overcoming his state (King et al., 2009). After establishing a friendship with Harriet Taylor, Mill was able to express his emotions, while furthering his intellectual work (King et al., 2009). Eventually, they married and Mill attributes much of his philosophical work to Taylor (Schultz Schultz, 2011). The main themes of Mill s philosophical life work, regarding the advancement of psychology, are centred utilitarianism (King et al., 2009). As a result of the work of Jeremy Bentham, utilitarianism is regarded as a principle of moral basis, which states that actions should provide the greatest good for the largest amount of people (King, et al., 2009). However, Mill differed in his views of utilitarianism, focusing on the consequences of an act and judging its worth based on the happiness it provides (Shiraev, 2011). Futhermore, Shiraev (2011) describes Mill s view of utilitarianism as a basis for determining if an action is correct, and if and only if, it affords pleasure for all who are influenced by the event. Mill regarded only those individuals who were knowledgeable, as having the ability to decide whether an action is in the best interest of all (Shiraev, 2011). In Mills book On Liberty , Mill expounds his concept of individual freedom within the context of his ideas on history and the state. On Liberty depends on the idea that society progresses from lower to higher stages and that this progress culminates in the emergence of a system of representative democracy. It is within the context of this form of government that Mill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sunil and Sindhu followed in suit, but Sunil passed his younger sister his shoes which she placed in her bag, alongside her own. Leaving your shoes in the pile meant they would likely be stolen. The women began to place scarfs around their heads, a sign of reverence to the Gods. Sindhu began to wonder around the temple staring up at the building. Sunil grabbed at her arm and gave her a warning look, Sindhu, apane skaarph ko rakho, Put on your scarf, he said in a hushed voice. Sindhu sighed and took out a red scarf from her bag and placed it over her head. She hated the way it made her feel suffocated and overheated. The siblings began walking around the temple, as they were still some time before Puja was going to start. Sindhu pointed to a statue of Durga, a goddess who was warrior known in Hindu mythology as a powerful women who fight off demons and maintained the peace. • 32. Literary Devices In If You Forget About Me By Pablo Neruda Love loves to love love. James Joyce. Regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, education or economic status humankind desires love, and it s through literature and art that we find a universal connection provided by the artist or author, and oftentimes advice to help us cope with our humanity. For instance in If You Forget About Me , poet Pablo Neruda uses literary devices such as tone and metaphor to represent how love can be romantic, yet volatile. For example, Neruda uses a switch in tone from the beginning where the speaker is loving and romantic describing how, everything carries me to you (Neruda 11). The tone changes in the middle of the poem, becoming ominous, Well, now, if little by little you stop loving me I shall stop loving you little by little. (Neruda 17 19). These quotes show how love can mean everything and nothing at the same time, the speaker describes in the first quote how everything in his life revolves around his lover but if he/she decides to fall out of love he will easily do the same. Neruda also uses a metaphor, leave me at the shore of the heart where I have roots, Remember that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land. ( Neruda 28 35). I believe the shore represents home, if the speaker s love leaves him/her stranded they will quickly move on to find someone new to fill their place. Humans will constantly seek love and relate everything around them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Power Struggle In Literature Power Struggles A measure of a man is what he does with power. These wise words were once said by the classical greek philosopher Plato, and can be applied to our society and fictional societies to this day. In literature, it can be applied to the societies of Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl, Ponies by Kij Johnson, and Honor to Us All from Disney s Mulan. Marxism (the theory that is used to look at conflicts and imbalances of power in literature/societies) and Feminism (the study/advocacy of equality for men and women rights) can be used to implement this quote into fiction. An examination of these three stories reveals that sexism causes power struggles in societies. Each story shows a power struggle because of sexism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each pony represents a girls spirit: their voice, their freedom (wings), and their ability to fight back (horns). When they go to a cutting out party, they get these things taken away from them, leaving them powerless. This is important because there is a power imbalance and struggle between those who get their power taken away from them and those who don t. The author is showing what could happen if expectations are deeply ingrained into a community making it hard to break away. In these societies, girls are objectified and have their power taken away, which creates a struggle between the sexes. A power struggle can also be proved when characters try to defy authority. When characters defy authority, there are often consequences. An example of this is when Sunny shows defiance in Ponies. Sunny spins and runs.... but there are more of the others and they are bigger, and Sunny doesn t have her wings to fly or her horn to fight. They pull her down before she can jump the fence into the woods beyond. Sunny cries, and there is nothing, only the sound if pounding hooves from the tight circle. (Kij Johnson, p.3). Sunny is defying the authority, which are the girls and their ponies, so the ponies kill her. This is significant because it shows that of anything threatens the ponies/girls control, they immediately put out the rebellion. The Girls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Habitat Of Southern Toads Abby Buren, Sheridan Dillon Robinson, Amber Hancock, Brett Shannon Identifying the preferred habitat of southern toads Introduction St. Andrews university is a 500 acre campus consisting of many aquatic habitats, ideal for amphibians such as frogs and toads. Amphibians are susceptible to changes in the environment and are indicators of environmental diversity and success as well as identifiers of pollutants in the environment (Marshall, 2013). We were interested in the prefered conditions for local toad and frog species on St. Andrews campus, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Some aquatic environments include lakes, ponds, creeks and a Carolina Bay. We hypothesised that toad and frog populations will be denser at the Carolina Bay because the area provides acoustics, ideal for calling mates and also has a lot of surface area that allows for solar heating that increases metabolism that would allow for quicker development (metamorphosis) as well as having lots of areas to lay eggs, due to mating and offspring developmental requirements. Frogs and toads are external fertilizers and the females lay their eggs in the water and the males fertilize the eggs. Also, once the eggs hatch depending on the species they will spend the first month or so of their lives in water as a tadpole until they metamorphosize into frogs or toads. Due to this, they are more likely to be in aquatic areas during mating seasons (Partymiller, L.). Out of the many toad and frog species in the area, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
