Jonas Journey In The Giver
In the science fiction book The Giver by Lois Lowry, the real giver is the Receiver in Training. In the
beginning of the book Jonas is selected to be the new receiver. He was selected to be the new receiver
because he has all the characteristics of a receiver. He has intelligence, integrity, and courage. Jonas
has to hold all memories of the past. As Jonas goes to his training his friends start to notice a change in
his behavior. The current receiver and the receiver in training came up with a plan to find elsewhere,
and fake Jonas s death. When the receiver in training starts his journey to elsewhere he asks won t the
memories be gone then, the current receiver said, Jonas if you were to be lost in the river, your
memories wouldn t be lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonas does not know why he was picked to be the receiver of memory. Jonas thinks that he is not
ready to hold all the memories of the community and the world. When Jonas starts to learn about the
memories and he wants to have more than just good memories, he wants to learn about terrible
memories and war memories. Shortly after Jonas starts to learn about all the terrible memories he
learn what release means. The Giver shows Jonas the ceremony of release happening that day. Its his
father that releases the baby. Jonas watches the ceremony in anger. He is angry at his father because he
is killing a baby. Jonas doesn t want to even talk to his father because of what he does. Jonas breaks
out in anger but the Giver calms him down. As the receiver in training Jonas is not able to apply for
release. He continues to go to his daily training. Jonas asks, If I would be lost, wouldn t the memories
be gone. The giver replies, Jonas if you were to be lost, your memories wouldn t be lost with you.
Memories are forever. The receiver in training and the current receiver make a plan to get out of the
community and get past the boundary of memory. Jonas the next day sets out on his journey to
elsewhere. Jonas has been on his journey for a few days, he s been through deserts, mountains, and
hills. He finds a sled on the top of a mountain. Jonas gets on the sled, starts to go down the hill. Jonas

Rene Descartes Ontological Argument
Cogito ergo sum ( I think, therefore, I am ) (Descartes, Miller, Miller, 1983). René Descartes was a
philosopher of the 17th century who made major contributions to the field. Everything from his
metaphysical arguments of existence of man to his proofs for the existence of God are still discussed
and debated today. In the field of religion, most famous is his Ontological proof for the existence of
God. In other words, proof that one can know God a priori, with no experience whatsoever. Following
his publication, a philosopher named Caterus raised key objections to his proof, which he later
responded to in an intriguing way. Descartes s reply to Caterus s critique of Descartes s Ontological
argument does not properly refute the objections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, he is justifying that although the greatest thought may be inseparable from existing, it
does not prove that this being must exist. Backing this claim up, he creates this idea of an existent lion
. Caterus writes, This complex existent lion includes both lion and the mode existence; and incudes
them essentially, for if you take away either it will not be the same complex (Descartes, 2009, p.86).
In writing this, Caterus shows that although something may possess the mode existing , that mode
only applies if the object itself already exists. Likewise, one cannot prove the existence of God
without first showing that God already exists (Descartes, 2009, pp.86 7). Throughout Caterus s
critique, many strong objections are raised, and it is when Descartes attempts to respond that the
argument falls apart. Descartes fails to properly refute any objections raised by Caterus, or solidify is
case. To begin his response, Descartes (2009) begins by contrasting St. Thomas s argument and his
own. In this contrasting, he states that his argument is not subject to the criticisms St. Thomas s
argument is, due to the different wording used (p.87). I believe, however, that Caterus was not
attempting to directly say the arguments were identical. Caterus even acknowledges the difference in
wording. The object Caterus, through St. Thomas, raised is that it does not follow solely from the
properties of which God has, that

How The Church Has Been Neglected By The Community Essay
Within the African American community, Christianity has manifest itself to be one of the cornerstones
of the community. Surprisingly enough however, the church was introduced to African Americans as a
means of trying to control the thoughts and actions of the slaves. When analyzing the church in its
modern state, it would be hard to come to this realization. Since its humble beginnings, many African
Americans have come to adopt the Christian faith as their own. Even as slaves, African Americans
began starting their own churches to allow them to worship how they wanted. Churches such as
Greater Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church (GMPMBC) (which has been a part of the local
community since 1939) are prime examples of how the church has grown to become an integral part
of the African American community. This paper will analyze the history of GMPMBC and discuss
how it is overlooked in mainstream society. From there, it will transition in to discussing how the
church has been neglected by the community it serves.

Punk Rock Essay
Punk rock is a unique and changing musical genre that was born in both England and the United
States in the late 1970s. A largely underground music scene with a reliance on a rejection of societies
norms, dismissal of capitalism and consumption, heavy reliance on community, and a strong attitude
of do it yourself and self empowerment, punk continues to have a large influence on the contemporary
music scene. Punk rock, however, has faced issues when dealing with concepts of sex and gender.
Bands within the scene are usually composed of males, women are objectified in song lyrics, and
masculine values like aggressiveness and violence are often glamorized, especially in sub genres of
punk such as hardcore punk. But women have managed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the demise of many hardcore bands in the mid Eighties, bands such as Bad Religion kept the
scene going, and were influences towards punk bands that would later go on to much mainstream
success such as Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink 182. One specific moment in punk rock history
that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the development of the Riot
Grrrl movement in the early 1990 s. This movement came mostly out of the punk rock scene in
Olympia, WA and Washington D.C. Women found themselves pushed out of punk due to the
increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts . Bands like Bikini Kill, and fan
publishes magazines ( zines ) such as Jigsaw began to address the issue of women in punk rock. The
first Riot Grrl Convention was held in Washington, D.C. in 1992. There were seminars dealing with
writing zines and buying guitars, as well as dealing with eating disorder and fighting sexism. Punk
rock, and specifically the Riot Grrrl movement, has been used to empower women and give them
control over their lives. Punk s celebration of the individual, and its embrace of those who challenge
the norms and standards of society, made it the perfect culture for women who refused to accept
society s notions of femininity and gender roles. This is a tradition that has a long history within
feminist theory. Groups such as the Radicalesbians and the Combahee River Collective challenged the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a very common disease that affects more women than men; at a minimum
two to three times relevant in women (Harbo, 2013). Sadly, according to the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society, since 1975, there has not been a successful national study of the prevalence in the
United States. In order to improve reporting MS, the National MS Society established a method of
testing administrative databases. In turn, the Society reported that MS organization have estimated 2.3
million individuals are living with MS worldwide. Is it the most common disabling neurological
disease affecting young adults (Courtney, 2009). The greatest number of people who are identified
with the disease are between the ages of 20 to 50, even though it can still be found in younger children
and notable older adults. I personally find this statistic to be alarming. I am at risk for developing this
disease since I am in my mid 20s. It is important that I understand and am aware of the disease
because the actual cause of the disease in still a mystery. The environment and our genes could play a
role in contributing to the disease.

Multiple Case Study Analysis Essay
Summary
This is an education research paper that explores the qualitative research method known as Multiple
Case Study Analysis. It will look at design, implementation, and analysis. It will further touch on what
is meant by a case study in itself.
Introduction
As asserted by Stake (2006), The multicase study is a special effort to examine something having lots
of cases, parts, or members (p. vi), which by the study of those parts, is able to then better understand
the something as a whole, and the ways in which it functions across different scenarios. In other
words, it attempts to explore and understand a specific issue or phenomenon, within its context, by
examining the individual parts, or cases, which make it up. Stake ... Show more content on

If the intended methodological design is a qualitative multiple case study, then each case must be
known completely, which leaves little attention to the quintain. This forced split of the research
analyst s attention is what Stake (2006) describes as the case quintain dilemma (p. 1).
Single Case Studies Developing theory from case studies is a research scheme that involves the
utilization of multiple cases in an effort to create notional theories and proposals from case based
empirical evidence (Eisenhardt, 1989), and since a multiple case study is basically made up of various
individual case studies, the understanding of basic case study methodology is essential. Creswell
(1998) describes a case study as a qualitative research method in which the researcher explores a
bounded system (what Stake refers to as the quintain), through thorough detailed data collection over
a period of time, involving various collection sources, which results in the materialization of case
based theses and reports. Stake (2006) states that these processes are so involved, that for every hour a
researcher spends collecting data, he needs an additional six hours for things such as recording,
describing, preparing, reflecting, and the like. In his book, Stake (2006) provides a diagramed outline

Impact of Globalisation on International Public Policy Essay
Introduction
Agreements on International Public Policy have never been as abundant as in the last century. In the
meantime, Globalisation has become a major phenomenon around the world, at various levels. So, it
will be interesting to know if globalisation makes agreements on International Public Policy easier or
harder.
Looking towards history, Globalisation has deeply affected both national and international way of
governance. Focus will be made on the economical and political aspects of globalisation and its effects
on IPP1 in those fields.
Globalisation has been very difficult to define clearly, and many scholars tried to give a accurate

Internationalization refers to the increasing importance of international trade, international relations,
treaties, alliances.2.
Regionalisation means a less interconnected world , with a stronger regional spirit. (Mercosur for
example).
A definition of Globalisation would be that : Globalisation typically refers to the process by which
different economies and societies become more closely integrated3.
Another definition would be that: Globalisation describes a process by which national and regional
economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through the global network of trade,
communication, immigration and transportation. 4
According to those definitions, globalisation seems to be a process that creates an international market
for goods and services, that creates a rise of standardised norms and social behaviour, that facilitated
centralisation of international politics through supranational entities such as the United Nations, the
World Bank or the World Trade organisation.
Looking towards history, markets has been increasingly integrated to a global market, which was
followed by the spread of ideologies (liberalism, democracy, capitalism, human right).

Horror And Suspense In Alfred Hitchcock s Film Psycho
In the film Psycho directed by Alfred Hitchcock he used several shots and symbolism to get across the
theme of horror and suspense. This is particularly apparent in the parlor scene, which has a very
important role of developing the characters and showing the audience how the characters feel and how
they act.
When Marion and Norman are sitting in the parlour engaging in conversation, Hitchcock uses a
slightly upwards facing shot on Norman, showing he is slightly sinister and aggressive, yet he is
sitting in a relaxed and calming manner, showing he is split in personality. In this scene this is shown
in another way by the lighting over Norman s face, half of his face are in the shadows while the other

Greed And Consumerism
Greed (for the lack of a better word) is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts
through and captures the essence of evolutionary spirit . Gordan Gekko from Wall Street says that
whilst greed is good, our environment conjectures otherwise. The rise of greed and modern human
culture has helped facilitate aspects of consumerism by creating a desperation for more. More friends,
more food, more clothes, more money, more dreams. Entirely based around the concept of lust,
selfishness and envy, consumerism helps appeal to the mass s most primal desires, exchanging a
person s rationality for emotional investment. Experts now aver that all of human history has come
down to one coherent fact; our only purpose is to consume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At this present moment, the standard of consumption had dramatically increased at an unprecedented
rate, to the point where sources have zero time to replenish in order to coincide with the rate of
consumption. It is predicated that in order to sustain a single Western s lifestyle, 4 6 hectares of land is
need per person.
Thinking back to other environmental issues, consumerism is at the cornerstone of approximately 60
80% of all environmental impacts experienced today. We have water scarcity because of the overuse
of clean drinking water in western societies and pollution levels in aquatic environments, we have fast
fashion because westerners want unethically made and poorer quality clothing articles made at a faster
rate than ever before, and deforestation? You guessed it, because we want our land to undergo
urbanisation so that we can make more goods to consume and to live out the American dream. And for
what? The latest and greatest? Or So that we can feel a sense of superiority over others?
This looming consumer demand has been the originator of multiple ecological imbalances that can be
seen around the world. Consumerism is heavily linked with environmental degradation. A process
where high levels of consumption and production require larger inputs of energy and therefore
increasing the quantity of waste products. This means that there will come a time when the earth can
not support it s own functioning. A

What Is Frank And April s Influence On The American Dream
In Post World War Two, America shot out of the Great Depression thanks to some government

the result of holding prosperity and success. Frank and April are a couple living in suburbia Maine,
who seem to be another couple aiming for the American Dream, but in reality both wanting to be far

St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments For The Existence Of God
When contemplating the theories of ethics, one can expand upon the ideas of Utilitarian and Duty
ethics using St. Thomas Aquinas arguments for the existence of God. The concept of Utilitarian ethics
suggests that a moral act is one that brings about the most happiness. With this definition, one must
conclude that there must be some optimal happiness or good. If there is a choice between levels of
happiness then one must define the optimal happiness or the most good that could exist in order to
judge the relative goodness of an act. Therefore there must be a maximum goodness or happiness
which is the cause of all other means of happiness. This argument is one that corresponds with St.
Thomas Aquinas proof of the existence of God. In his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Happiness is not the only key in determining the ethics of an act according to Kant and the theory of
Duty ethics. In the article The Metaphysics of Morals, contained within the dialogue between the
student and the teacher, Kant argues that one must balance happiness and reason. Happiness, being the
ultimate or overall good or welfare of a being, must be rationalized by reason, being the measure of
how worthy one is of this happiness. The observance of reason is then what Kant deems worthiness to
happiness. Nevertheless, Kant also brings up an interesting point that humanity cannot always provide
it selves with happiness, but that the circumstances of our lives are often out of our control. He then
argues that the fact that there is some kind of order and wisdom in nature that is outside of our control
points to the workings of a higher power. This argument again points to the fact that there must be
some ultimate good or goal in which creation as a whole is designed. This argument parallels St.
Thomas Aquinas fifth argument the Argument from Design begins with the fact that all natural bodies
work toward some goal, and do not do so by choice. He then states that most natural things lack
knowledge and things that lack knowledge, like an arrow for example, can achieve a goal by being

Persuasive Speech On Violence In Society
Today, I will strive to propose a solution to a problem which has plagued the world for as long as
society has existed. This problem has always failed to receive the attention it deserves. Although it has
not fully received proper attentions, nations around the world have tried and failed to resolve this
issue. I will now, to the best of my ability, introduce to you a solution which would undoubtedly end
this problem wherever it occurs.
Imagine this, a young boy being wrenched from his sobbing mother s arms by local militants, kicking
and screaming. These mothers are forced to watch their child being taken away, all the while knowing
it is the last time they will ever get to see their child. These children are then forced to enter violent
and dangerous groups where they often must hurt and kill other human beings. Some of these children
are even forced to become military sex slaves for these organizations, constantly being abused by their
captors until it becomes normal for them. This may come as a shock to you in the great country of
America, but it is a common sight in countries around the world. There are more than 300,000 such
children around the world. These children are as young as seven years old when they are taken into
these horrible groups. Some of these children aren t even brought to these groups against their will,
but are lured into gangs during their impressionable years as a youth.

Capitalism Vs Industrial Capitalism
What is capitalism? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary capitalism is an economic system
characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined
by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined
mainly by competition in a free market.
Transitioned from mercantile capitalism later expanded to joint stock companies moving into
industrial capitalism. Industrial capitalism was larger in scale and different in practice. Joyce Appleby
s definition of industrial capitalism: An economic system that relies on investment of capital in
machines and technology that are used to increase production of marketable goods.
In The Wealth of Nations, published in 1776. Smith advocated that the production of wealth would
increase if people were allowed to pursue their self interest, with little intrusion from government. In
serving their own interests, people would serve the public interest, unconsciously, as if guided, as he
said, by an unseen hand. Capitalism is built on self interest, it s a system of give me more and can
never inspire admiration. Today there seems to not be a better alternative to capitalism, but anti market
feelings persist. The current market system is more proficient at constructing wealth and fulfilling
desires than any other system currently known. Capitalism encompasses the legal, political, economic
and cultural systems all working together to create wealth

Essay ROME IN THE AUGUSTINIAN AGE
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, and was used in the Eastern provinces. Imperium
suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the first of many
titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at the Battle of
Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being honoured, and that the
power he possessed at the time should remain. Therefore making it the first factor that led to the rise

Therefore, although Dio Cassius was writing approximately two centuries after the events, it would
have been possible for him to have quoted direct speeches made by Octavian. Dio Cassius context also
needs to be taken into account. He was a Senator, consul and proconsul himself, and was therefore,
like most ancient Roman historians, an elite male, writing about an elite male, for other elite males.
Octavian himself does not clearly state whether or not the transfer took place at one point, or over an
extended period of time in a series of steps (as is the belief of some historians), I transferred the
republic from my power to the dominion of the Senate and people of Rome. (Res Gestae Divi August)
caution needs to be taken when assessing this source as it is Octavian s own account of what
happened, and so is obviously extremely biased, aiming to portray himself and his achievements as he
wanted them to be remembered. Regardless of the time period the significance of Octavian s actions
are clear. He gave up his powers and returned absolute authority in the provinces as well as his control
of the legions that were sanctioned there. (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was significant as
these legions had been the basis of his power. As Eck highlights in his The Age of Augustus Octavian
theoretically gave up his authority, but in reality the Senate and people of Rome had little power as
they lacked the ability to initiate

thousands of pea plants throughout his experiments. He collected the seeds of the offspring and

Hybridization. His research failed to create an impact at that time. He was made abbot of the

Examples Of Lies And Deception In Much Ado About Nothing
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING THEME OF LIES AND DECEIT
Lies and cheating is ever present in Much Ado About Nothing... but the characters never expect it.
This is one gullible crew.
Deception appears as the tool of villains to spread chaos and unhappiness. However, it s also a device
used by friends to improve each other s lives. Everyone from scoundrels to nice daddy s girls to
clergymen use deviousness so deception doesn t come with a value judgment, it s neither absolutely
good or absolutely bad. Whether deception is okay or not depends on the intentions of the deceivers if
the intention is to promote happiness, then the deceiver is a good friend, but if the deceiver intends
harm, then he s a nasty jerk.
Questions About Lies and Deceit

All of the major plots are actually set in motion by the characters susceptibility to suggestion. They
only see what they want to, and they are no more misled than they allow themselves to be.
Deception is inherently bad. It is used in this play to sometimes bring out positive results, but those
outcomes are actually artificial, and easily undone.
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING THEME OF LOVE
Ah l amour.
Love in Much Ado About Nothing is a super complicated topic. First of all, none of the characters
explicitly seek love out love is always second to something else in this play. Love might be the
inadvertent result of hatred, or the incidental fact of marriage. Though the play is about romance, the
plot seems to highlight the fact that love is only one of many factors that goes into a love affair. Love
often comes with difficulty or complication from outside circumstances (like a scheming villain), but
it s just as often thwarted by lovers themselves.
Questions About Love
1. How does loyalty in the play work as a kind of love? Which characters are loyal, and to whom?
2. When Claudio says that he should ve known friendship wouldn t be able to stand up to love (when
he thinks that Don Pedro has stolen Hero from him), is he projecting his own weak allegiances and

through understanding human behavior, conduct, values and ethics. It is a multi service training

memorable one. It is a unique experienced that I will cherish for the rest of my military career. There

using their responses to fine tune my personal and professional skills to become a much more
effective and productive individual. Physical Fitness Training I enjoyed the physical fitness training in
the academy. While I was deeply disappointed to learn that the Coast Guard does not have a Physical
Fitness Assessment/Physical Readiness Test requirements like the other military service, I was very
impressed with the variety of physical exercises that they introduced. In particular, I found practical
applications for the TRX exercises. I intend on introducing this exercise program in my next
command. I think this is a good training that we can use in commands/units were spaces are limited to
conduct conventional exercises.

At that time, Coco Chanel first created the jersey clothes, which were new styles and materials. It is an
impact to the traditional costume, the concept of clothing and tailoring. Women felt more comfortable
and liberating. Before her design, a cheap fabrice was used for men s underwear. She introduced
casual, comfortable, suitable clothes. With the liberation of women following the war Chanel clothing
became known for allowing freedom of movement in comfortable, fluid designs and practical sporty
wear as ladies left their kitchens and began to enjoy more active lives (Farrer J. , 2008). This idea

Coco Chanel not only revolutionized what women should wear, but also, in society, she freed women

Before Chanel s design, the most popular style in the Europe was Baroque style. A person s clothing

Learning Geometry Requires Steps Or Levels
Learning Geometry requires steps or levels that need to be completed by students. These levels of
learning need to be completed in a particular order, so that students can progress and move along to
the next level. Difficulties in grasping geometric concepts by students may be caused by the lack of
exposure to a particular level or the lack of preparation by their leaning facilitator. A combination of
the two needs to be present for students to learn and maximize the learning experience. Instructors
need to be aware how students learn and determine if they are a level appropriate for their age. If they
are not at that level then, it is up to the instructor to make sure that students reach the desired level.
Instruction should be modified to incorporate ways to assist those students that are not at their level.
Van Hiele suggested that students must pass through five levels of learning in a sequence and must
move level by level, so that they can learn appropriately. The levels are: visual, descriptive/analytic,
abstract/relational, formal deduction, and rigor/mathematical. By the time a student enters high school
they should be at formal deduction level and be able to create proofs. Students should know identify
shapes, identify properties, and understand relationships. Having this levels of the Van Hiele model
should be sufficient for students to comprehend high school geometry. Yet, educators feel that students
are not at this level and emphasis should be

The main idea of the book revolves around the issue of discrimination and inequality in the 1940 s
against the Black community in Mississippi. The book is written by Anne Moody, who throws light on
the difficulties she faced as a black women living in Mississippi.
The book talks about Moody s early years and her family s instability and struggle living in a racial

people faced at the mediocre social and economic positions allotted to them. Moody, being the eldest
of the six children, started becoming aware of the extremity and the predicament of poor Black

Because I Could Not Stop For Death And Death Be Not Proud
Death and the afterlife exist as the most controversial topics in existence. Mortality is a fact, but no
one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe death to be
the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture or words. It
can prove challenging as no one has experienced death and lived to tell the tale. Though challenging it
has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death. Death be not Proud
by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died both by
Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters. These poems deal with
different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals with death in the present tense.
The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins spouting their opinions of him.
They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power. Next he declares death nothing but a
slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the finishing blow comes when the narrator
calls death a short sleep. Because once they die they will just live again eternally, instead death will
die forever. Donne wrote from a Christian viewpoint, believing death is not worthy of fear. ... Show

Virtue Ethics In Health Care
Introduction
Virtue ethics is one of the major approaches in normative ethics. virtue ethics emphasizes being rather
than doing. Our being, in other words, who we truly are, influences our behavior (Arries, 2005).
Central to virtue ethics is the concept of integrity. Some manifestations of integrity include honesty,
truthfulness and truth telling, benevolence, wisdom, and moral courage (Butts Rich, 2016). Integrity
means being truthful to one s obligations; it focuses on health practitioners as people and their
commitment to their patients (Hursthouse Pettigrove, 2016). In the following paper I will discuss the
ethical issues and application of virtue ethics to the concept patient safety as it relates to a case where

The goal is to improve the patient s quality of life and a dignified end of life. This calls for nurses that
have high moral and professional skills; and are able to develop relationships and make complex
decisions. Building a relationship with the patient and caregivers is essential in hospice care and the
nurse s integrity and honesty are valued highly (Erichsen, Danielsson, Friedrichsen, 2010). In the
clinical setting of hospice integrity is displayed by speaking up on behalf of the patient when a patient
s wellbeing and quality of care is threatened either by caregivers or other healthcare professionals.
There are many other ways that honesty is displayed in a hospice setting such as communicating with
patients and families about diagnosis, test results, prognosis, and different options available for
treatment and care. Honesty is also displayed when we stay committed to our promises to patients and
follow through with appropriate behaviors, such as being on time for visits and providing patients with
all the resources, medications, and equipment that were promised upon admission (McSteen Peden
McAlpine, 2006). Integrity is also practiced in hospice by maintaining patient confidentiality;
communicating with physicians who have ordered questionable treatments; reporting to administrators
hazardous or questionable practices; advocating for the patients and

Many Strains of Vibrio Cholera
Vibrio cholerae is a comma shaped Gram negative bacteria with a single, polar flagellum for
movement. There are numerous strains of V. cholerae, some of which are pathogenic and some of
which are not. V. cholerae is a facultative anaerobic organism and was first isolated as the cause of
cholera by an Italian anatomist Filippo Pacini in 1854, but his discovery was not widely known until
Robert Koch, working independently 30 years later, publicized the knowledge and the means of
fighting the disease. The entire genome contains two circular chromosomes. Chromosome 1 has
2.961.149 base pairs with 2.770 open reading frames and chromosome 2 has 1.072.315 base pairs,
with 1.115 open reading frames. It is the larger first chromosome that contains the crucial genes for
toxicity, regulation of toxicity and important cellular functions, such as transcription and
translation. The second chromosome is determined to be different from a plasmid or megaplasmid due
to the inclusion of housekeeping and other essential genes in the genome, including essential genes for
metabolism, heat shock proteins and 16S rRNA genes, which are ribosomal sub unit genes used to
track evolutionary relationships between bacteria. Also relevant in determining if the replicon is a
chromosome is whether it represents a significant percentage of the genome, and chromosome 2 is
40% by size of the entire genom.(fig 1)

Many philosophies are established during our upbringings, and personal experiences. A family, for
instance, is like a team in many ways. We have to collaborate, encourage, and motivate one another to
strengthen our cohesiveness. The unbelievable bonds formed within a family are naturally created
during a process. As stated from Leadership and Professionalism, collaboration s purpose is to create a
shared vision and joint strategies to address concerns that go beyond the purview of any particular
party (Anderson and Bolt, 2013, p.36). I have found that my experiences with CLA correlate with this
idea. As time progressed, our group began to understand each other, and utilize our strengths to
maximize efficiency. This is because we became more comfortable with each other, learned how to
constructively criticize one another, and developed a productive system. My views on the process
obviously go far beyond my experiences in this class, but the experiences have undoubtedly reassured
my philosophy. The Relational Leadership Model provides many ideas that can guide one s
philosophy about leadership, but there are many other concepts that can equally contribute. At the
beginning of the semester, we took the Clifton s Strength Assessment. Knowing one s strengths can be

some townsmen are torturing it for their own amusement. Janie does not like this and mutters her

After the mule finally dies, Jody has a mock funeral which turns into a town wide gathering, none of
which Janie is allowed to attend to. Later on at the store, Janie and Jody get into an argument where
she tells him that he is no fun, and he tells her that he is just trying to be responsible. As time goes on
the indignation that Janie holds for Jody only grows stronger. One day, Jody slaps Janie after seven
years of having met each other after a treacherous dinner. Later that same day, Mrs. Robbins begs
Jody for a little meat for her family which Jody spares. The men on the porch talk crudely about the

The American Song Star-Spangled Banner
As a music lover since a young age, the incentives as to why artists created music have always been
intriguing to me. The time period and events that took place play a major part in the creative process
of music. This essay will consist of information from the early 18th century to the late 20th century. It
is known that culture reflects the happenings within a society. Culture is what helps shine light on
social situations which lets one know how to react or understand that society s cultural norms. Music
reflects the culture of a society. It gives insight of history, values, norms, emotions, and the mentality
of a society. Therefore, broad inquiries may arise such as: What was taking place during these time
periods and how did people feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Horst Wessel song was a popular song sung by many Nazi individuals. Many of the music created
by Nazi s were meant to keep their youth in order and help teach them discipline. Hitler would have
lyrics of original American songs altered to attempt to broadcast propaganda messages to their
enemies. America used music for propaganda purposes as well to help support stereotypes about the
Japanese to get the American people to their opinions to supporting the war against Japan. Music
composers would use lyrics to dehumanize the Japanese during WW2 with songs such as, When we

Reflective Essay On Student Affairs
This was my first student affairs conference. I have attended different conferences during my
undergraduate years but never for student affairs. I am happy that I did attend because I was got to
meet different individuals that have been on the feel for many years. Having this as an assignment
motivated me more to go. I know that for the following year I will attend even if is not an assignment.
I enjoyed the keynote speaker Dr. Vincent Vigil. His story was something I can relate while growing
up in that type of environments. Dr. Vigil message was inspiring to many of us and it shows how
many of us do not plan to be in student affairs but somehow we end up in this field.
When Dr. Vigil said his story, it reminded how I ended up in student affairs. It was a very similar
story, I had my mentor asked me if that is something I would consider. My mentor was who opened
many doors and my passion for student affairs. His passion for helping students was what inspired me
to be like that and follow his footsteps. At the conference, I meet many professionals that have been in
the field for a long time and that just started. I felt a little intimidated because I just started and it was
my first conference.
After the keynote speaker, I decided to attend the workshop of Academic Advising and Counseling . I
decided on this workshop because I want to become a counselor and I already work at a community
college. This workshop was structure to help student affairs professionals identify

Negative Effects Of Divorce
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 813,862 divorces have been granted in 45
out out the fifty states in 2017 alone (Marriage and Divorce). Around half of those divorces will
involve children. With divorce becoming a prominent phenomenon it has become increasingly
important for the two parties involved to remain courteous. Children s lives are easily impacted when
they are forced to go through this life altering situation. Divorce can inflict damage both mentally and
psychologically. When amicable and peaceful means are employed through the duration of divorce
proceedings, the children involved could be less likely to experience negative educational,
psychological and physiological side effects due to increased ... Show more content on

School involvement and success can be hindered by an animosity ridden divorce. According to Bruce
F. Dykman many children of divorce experience intense short term effects that negatively impact upon
their school performance (Dykeman 43). It is not uncommon for a child to lose interest in school and
learning when they are experiencing such a tumultuous event in their life. If their disinterest continues
for a prolonged period of time at a young age, it can create a situation that does not allow for academic
success. Many school systems have interventionists who can step in and either provide counselling
assistance or academic assistance. Children that exhibit extreme behavioral issues at school may be
tested by the school district s special education department. The counselling department may also step
in and refer the child to a community agency. The other interventionists, like speech language
pathologists, step in to assist with strengthening their academic skills in hopes of preventing additional
struggles with academia.
Speech language pathologists (SLP) can be utilized to help if literacy becomes a problem area for
children that have experienced turmoil due to their parents separation. Children who are in the early
stages of their education may experience issues with distinguishing long from short vowel sounds;
producing words by blending sounds together; isolating and producing initial, medial, and final sounds
in words; and

What Is My Frank Essay
MY JOURNEY Life is like a mystery, you won t know what will you face in the next seconds, when it
comes and will it be a happy or sad ending. Sometimes life is frightening, sometimes it s exciting and
sometimes make you don t want to know the ending. The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved
but reality to be experienced and here is one of my journey. In September 2011, my mother received
the offer about a retreat to Taiwan only 8 days before the set off day and we had no idea about the
visa. Fortunately, a friend of my mother wanted to go to Jakarta , so we could entrusted our visa with
her, finally D 4 the visa was out. I d heard before that to get a tourist visa is easier than a student or a
work visa. Actually I wondered to go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My Father bought a watch and my mom bought some dry food. By the way let me tell you that the
foods there are a little bit different from Indonesian food, Indonesian s is more tasty. The food there is
not salty or spicy so according to me it s tasteless. One more thing to tell about Taiwanesse habit is
they only take a bath once a day in the evening. In the morning they wash their face and brush their
teeth and the ready to go to work, they usually have bao or in Indonesia we call it bapao for breakfast.
It seems strange to me at first but on the other hand it s also weird for them that we Indonesian people
take a bath twice a day. After several days we went back to Indonesia, for me it s really an awesome
retreat. I m not regret to go there. That I went to Taiwan for retreat is wonderful. Being there for
several days made me got a new experience and knowledge even I had to take off from school for 8
days and when I came back to shool my class friends and my teacher looked at me with a weird
inspection. I don t say that is good to take off from school for travelling but it s really an unforgettable
moment of my life and I m grateful for having this

  • 3. Rene Descartes Ontological Argument Cogito ergo sum ( I think, therefore, I am ) (Descartes, Miller, Miller, 1983). René Descartes was a philosopher of the 17th century who made major contributions to the field. Everything from his metaphysical arguments of existence of man to his proofs for the existence of God are still discussed and debated today. In the field of religion, most famous is his Ontological proof for the existence of God. In other words, proof that one can know God a priori, with no experience whatsoever. Following his publication, a philosopher named Caterus raised key objections to his proof, which he later responded to in an intriguing way. In other words, he is justifying that although the greatest thought may be inseparable from existing, it does not prove that this being must exist. Backing this claim up, he creates this idea of an existent lion . Caterus writes, This complex existent lion includes both lion and the mode existence; and incudes them essentially, for if you take away either it will not be the same complex (Descartes, 2009, p.86). In writing this, Caterus shows that although something may possess the mode existing , that mode only applies if the object itself already exists. Likewise, one cannot prove the existence of God without first showing that God already exists (Descartes, 2009, pp.86 7). Throughout Caterus s critique, many strong objections are raised, and it is when Descartes attempts to respond that the argument falls apart. Descartes fails to properly refute any objections raised by Caterus, or solidify is case. To begin his response, Descartes (2009) begins by contrasting St. Thomas s argument and his own. In this contrasting, he states that his argument is not subject to the criticisms St. Thomas s argument is, due to the different wording used (p.87). I believe, however, that Caterus was not attempting to directly say the arguments were identical. Caterus even acknowledges the difference in wording. The object Caterus, through St. Thomas, raised is that it does not follow solely from the properties of which God has, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Surprisingly enough however, the church was introduced to African Americans as a means of trying to control the thoughts and actions of the slaves. When analyzing the church in its modern state, it would be hard to come to this realization. Since its humble beginnings, many African Americans have come to adopt the Christian faith as their own. Even as slaves, African Americans began starting their own churches to allow them to worship how they wanted. A largely underground music scene with a reliance on a rejection of societies norms, dismissal of capitalism and consumption, heavy reliance on community, and a strong attitude of do it yourself and self empowerment, punk continues to have a large influence on the contemporary music scene. Punk rock, however, has faced issues when dealing with concepts of sex and gender. One specific moment in punk rock history that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the development of the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 1990 s. This movement came mostly out of the punk rock scene in Olympia, WA and Washington D.C. Women found themselves pushed out of punk due to the increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts . Bands like Bikini Kill, and fan publishes magazines ( zines ) such as Jigsaw began to address the issue of women in punk rock. The first Riot Grrl Convention was held in Washington, D.C. in 1992. There were seminars dealing with writing zines and buying guitars, as well as dealing with eating disorder and fighting sexism. Punk rock, and specifically the Riot Grrrl movement, has been used to empower women and give them control over their lives. Punk s celebration of the individual, and its embrace of those who challenge the norms and standards of society, made it the perfect culture for women who refused to accept society s notions of femininity and gender roles. The greatest number of people who are identified with the disease are between the ages of 20 to 50, even though it can still be found in younger children and notable older adults. I personally find this statistic to be alarming. I am at risk for developing this disease since I am in my mid 20s. It is important that I understand and am aware of the disease because the actual cause of the disease in still a mystery. The environment and our genes could play a role in contributing to the disease. It will look at design, implementation, and analysis. It will further touch on what is meant by a case study in itself. Introduction As asserted by Stake (2006), The multicase study is a special effort to examine something having lots of cases, parts, or members (p. vi), which by the study of those parts, is able to then better understand the something as a whole, and the ways in which it functions across different scenarios. If the intended methodological design is a qualitative multiple case study, then each case must be known completely, which leaves little attention to the quintain. This forced split of the research analyst s attention is what Stake (2006) describes as the case quintain dilemma (p. 1). Single Case Studies Developing theory from case studies is a research scheme that involves the utilization of multiple cases in an effort to create notional theories and proposals from case based empirical evidence (Eisenhardt, 1989), and since a multiple case study is basically made up of various individual case studies, the understanding of basic case study methodology is essential. Creswell (1998) describes a case study as a qualitative research method in which the researcher explores a bounded system (what Stake refers to as the quintain), through thorough detailed data collection over a period of time, involving various collection sources, which results in the materialization of case based theses and reports. Stake (2006) states that these processes are so involved, that for every hour a researcher spends collecting data, he needs an additional six hours for things such as recording, describing, preparing, reflecting, and the like. St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments For The Existence Of God When contemplating the theories of ethics, one can expand upon the ideas of Utilitarian and Duty ethics using St. Thomas Aquinas arguments for the existence of God. The concept of Utilitarian ethics suggests that a moral act is one that brings about the most happiness. With this definition, one must conclude that there must be some optimal happiness or good. If there is a choice between levels of happiness then one must define the optimal happiness or the most good that could exist in order to judge the relative goodness of an act. Happiness is not the only key in determining the ethics of an act according to Kant and the theory of Duty ethics. In the article The Metaphysics of Morals, contained within the dialogue between the student and the teacher, Kant argues that one must balance happiness and reason. Happiness, being the ultimate or overall good or welfare of a being, must be rationalized by reason, being the measure of how worthy one is of this happiness. The observance of reason is then what Kant deems worthiness to happiness. Nevertheless, Kant also brings up an interesting point that humanity cannot always provide it selves with happiness, but that the circumstances of our lives are often out of our control. He then argues that the fact that there is some kind of order and wisdom in nature that is outside of our control points to the workings of a higher power. This argument again points to the fact that there must be some ultimate good or goal in which creation as a whole is designed. This argument parallels St. Thomas Aquinas fifth argument the Argument from Design begins with the fact that all natural bodies work toward some goal, and do not do so by choice. These levels of learning need to be completed in a particular order, so that students can progress and move along to the next level. Difficulties in grasping geometric concepts by students may be caused by the lack of exposure to a particular level or the lack of preparation by their leaning facilitator. A combination of the two needs to be present for students to learn and maximize the learning experience. Instructors need to be aware how students learn and determine if they are a level appropriate for their age. If they are not at that level then, it is up to the instructor to make sure that students reach the desired level. Instruction should be modified to incorporate ways to assist those students that are not at their level. Van Hiele suggested that students must pass through five levels of learning in a sequence and must move level by level, so that they can learn appropriately. The levels are: visual, descriptive/analytic, abstract/relational, formal deduction, and rigor/mathematical. By the time a student enters high school they should be at formal deduction level and be able to create proofs. Mortality is a fact, but no one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe death to be the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture or words. It can prove challenging as no one has experienced death and lived to tell the tale. Though challenging it has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death. Death be not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died both by Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters. These poems deal with different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals with death in the present tense. The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins spouting their opinions of him. They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power. Next he declares death nothing but a slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the finishing blow comes when the narrator calls death a short sleep. Some manifestations of integrity include honesty, truthfulness and truth telling, benevolence, wisdom, and moral courage (Butts Rich, 2016). Dykman many children of divorce experience intense short term effects that negatively impact upon their school performance (Dykeman 43). It is not uncommon for a child to lose interest in school and learning when they are experiencing such a tumultuous event in their life. In the morning they wash their face and brush their teeth and the ready to go to work, they usually have bao or in Indonesia we call it bapao for breakfast. It seems strange to me at first but on the other hand it s also weird for them that we Indonesian people take a bath twice a day. After several days we went back to Indonesia, for me it s really an awesome retreat. I m not regret to go there. That I went to Taiwan for retreat is wonderful. Being there for several days made me got a new experience and knowledge even I had to take off from school for 8 days and when I came back to shool my class friends and my teacher looked at me with a weird inspection.
