The Civil Right Movement In The 1960 s
Everyone as a child has a role model someone that they look up to for advice. This person was my
uncle. My uncle was the first person to attend a college. This was the person that embed the idea that I
will be following in the footsteps and attend college. My parents at that time did not really push me
they were focused on making sure there was food on the table. Also during my middle school year he
was the main advocate for me to attend Verbum Dei High School instead of following my cousin and
attending Serra High School. He has open my eyes to the injustice in this world.
Once I ask him why he not attended UCLA I was really confused because he decides to attend the
local community college instead. That was the point where he disclosed to ... Show more content on

15, 2011. Thanks to the passing of the California Dream Act my uncle now attends the University of
California Los Angeles. It was a topical November day. I was in the beginning of eight grade year. I
was looking thru my Facebook newsfeed and I see a picture of my Uncle sitting down in the middle of
the State Capitol in Montgomery Alabama. Well reading this post he said I am willing to go to jail for
what I believe in . I remember reflecting on this. His action really motivated me and still motivated me
to this day. It made me think of the Civil Right Movement of the 1960 s and how if you speak your
mind it can make a difference. He sat there in the middle of the Capitol since it open till he was
forcibly removed by the Capitol Police and arrested. He was willing to face deportation for a cause. I
feel that if I attend this trip I can make a different. There two ways to make a different in this country
protest or lobbying for it. If I would attend I would want to talk to a republican Congressman from
California. If I get the opportunity to speak to the congressman/ women hopefully I can give this
person a different perspective on the issue. Big things don t happen overnight and if I am able to do

Newark High School Rewriting Research Paper
The public school system in Delaware isn t exactly prestigious. Senior English Honors required a total
of three written papers, one of them over the summer, and the writing focus was on the CSQT. A
simple formula for a paragraph that a monkey could handle, its meaning is Claim, Set up, Quote, and
Tie in. If you had an opening and closing paragraph and three CSQT s in a paper at Newark High
School, you were a genius. Joseph Harris, the writer of the textbook Rewriting: How to do Things
with Text, implores his readers to think of the act of writing as re writing. Taking information,
thoughts, ideas, concepts from writers and utilize them with new concepts to create a fresh and more
tailored piece from the new writer s perspective, essentially using old to create new, the theory of
conservation of mass applied to writing. This process of taking others work and utilizing it for
rewriting, is very different than what Newark High School had in mind, for the concept of the CSQT
left little room for creativity. The focus was on making a claim, and using quotations to point out why
that stance was the best choice. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any journaling that is done is essentially the dumping of all internal feelings onto paper. There is no
rhyme or reason to what is on the paper, it s just whatever feeling happens to be at the forefront of the
mind at the time. Quotes are often involved in journaling as well as activities like blogging or
emailing, however they are included to stand alone, functioning as a reminder or a type of
encouragement, for either the author or the recipient. In such mediums like emailing or blogging, the
reiteration of the day s events may include summaries of books read or phrasing of new ideas
introduced throughout the day mixed with personal opinions on what occurred. Therefore, if you
wanted to thinly stretch the idea of rewriting you could apply it to such

What It s Like To Be A Gang Member
The lives of gang members, especially ones that are young, were filled with many challenges of
everyday life. Both the analytical essay What It s Like To Be A Gang Member and the poem We Real
Cool portray the life of a participant as short and fatal. This demonstrates that its life is very violent
and scary. They foreshadow that the organizations recruit young kids to do the dirty work.
In What It s Like To Be A Gang Member, the author Bill Lee, a previous member, portrays what then
life is like. According to the quote I was just 8 when I got into the gang life, boys are recruited when
they are very young which becomes scary and violent. Bill Lee also quotes I started with stealing,
picking fights, and peddling goods. This shows

The Lucy E Parson Memorials
All three topics are for the public and tell our history over the years in a public way. One can see art as
in a form of a memorial that helps society in their rememory in the words of Toni Morrison. When you
think about memorials, one might ask themselves what are they for and what is the symbolic reason
behind it? An artist named Marjorie Woodruff expresses the same questions that are being raised.
Marjorie Woodruff dedicated an public art installation Spiral: The Lucy E. Parsons Memorial. One
does not agree with the time frame of the memorial because a memorial is there to preserve the
existence of the person who is being honored. So why was this particular memorial only up for two
years, a very unusual time, allowed for remembrance. In

How Does Peter Shaffer Use Themes as Devices in Equus to...
It is difficult to suggest what the comfortable view of normal is as there are many different
perceptions, which should be considered. In the beginning of Equus one considers the character of
Martin Dysart to be normal as he rarely strays outside of societies boundaries. However, as we move
through the play one discovers there is much more to Martin Dysart than once thought. In reality the
themes dealt with in Equus challenges our own sense of what is normal. They are as equally as
shocking to Dysart, yet made justifiable by Alan Strang s worship for Equus, the god of horses. This is
why Peter Shaffer uses Equus as a sort of device to standardize and make the strange acceptable. He
does this by introducing a sense of innocence into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although abstract normality adopts god like features and begins to dominate our lives. It is The
average made lethal. Sadly, it is unescapable and whether we accept it or not it will stay with us
forever. Through the help of Strang, Dysart acknowledges this and realises his job consists of
removing the good smile in a child eyes . He feels as though by limiting one to the constraints of
normality part of their humanity is lost. This is shown through his dream on page 24. This dream is the
first time that the audience can see Martin Dysart s transition from the comfortable view of what is
normal to a more unique view on life.
Peter Shaffer uses Equus as a device to standardize and make the abnormal acceptable. In reality many
of the themes and actions dealt with challenge our sense of normality so by introducing an element of
innocence into Strang s character, we as an audience, are suddenly forced to connect and sympathise
for him. The innocence is ultimately illustrated by Strang s worship and love for Equus. Without the
element of innocence it would be difficult to forgive his defiance of the comfortable view of what is
normal. Yet without the defiance we would be unable to forgive him for fitting the societies view of
what is normal. Essentially this innocence is the element, which balances the personality of Alan
Strang beautifully. Interestingly these are the very elements that Dysart is lacking. That s what his

Into The Wild Chris Mccandless Relationship Analysis
Relationships between people can change lives forever. For instance, a parent and child s relationship
are one of the most important ones because that is where our consciousness about love, trust and
assurance comes from. Depending on the relationship, it can either benefit or suffer a child. Since little
children always look up to their parents and learn from them. So the actions done by their parents can
affect the child s life later in the years. This scenario can be reflected in the book Into the Wild, the
character Chris McCandless. Chris McCandless parent s outside appearance was wanting Chris to go
to school and be successful. Meanwhile, in the inside appearance, especially the dad, was an abusive
father. This reflected a double life.

The Role Of Journalism And Its Impact On Society Essay
In a contemporary society, the role of journalism is a varied one that covers many different aspects of
people s lives. As more and more outlets spring up around the world, many more stories are able to be
covered by different outlets, and this means that journalism takes on a more and more important role
in a contemporary society. Much of our lives centre on political and social happenings, and
journalistic outlets are the public s way of finding all the information on these event. Journalism also
provides us with a way of finding out which of these stories are important and deserve our attention,
and which stories can be ignored. The important role of journalism can be well observed in the recent
coverage of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in both New Zealand and around the
world. This is a ground breaking economic deal, and holds a great deal of importance for the 800
million citizens of the countries involved, as well as the rest of the world. With worldwide coverage of
this deal, it is inevitable that different types of reporting occurs, and that different outlets will provide
different accounts. With so many different journalism outlets around the world and locally, many have
to have a way of standing out from the crowd. This means that some extremely different coverage of
very similar stories can occur. However it can also simply be down to different ownership, differing
political views, and different socio economic environments. Two outlets with

Mobile Phones And Its Impact On Our Lives Today
What is mobility? We hear the term a lot today. Websters Dictionary defines mobility as, The quality
or state of being mobile; as, the mobility of a liquid, of an army, of the populace, of features, of a
muscle. or The quality of moving freely. (Mobility, 2016) However, in our lives today the term in
more so applied to the devices we carry. Such as our Laptops, tablets and cellphones. Mobile devices
have become the mundane today rather than a luxury. However, as with any type of computing device,
they come with security risks. Let s look at them shall we? Cell phones today, having once been
simple mobile phones that we can carry in our pockets, have long since evolved into full fledged touch
screen computers that we take with us everywhere. But the modern smart phones of today share one
define characteristic with their ancestors, and that is that they are portable. This singular characteristic
is in large part why cell phones have become so prevalent in today s society. Whereas once upon a
time not all that long ago people could only be reached at home or at work. Whereas now we willingly
tether ourselves to our mobile devices and in exchange, we can be reached anywhere. However, as I
said before the mobile phones of today are much more than simple phones. They have evolved into
full fledged computer that allow us to access the internet and everything on it from anywhere, and in
doing so have largely displaced the home computer. But in doing so has come with a price. Our

Commercialization Of Art And China
Commercialization of Art in China
Introduction
Commercialization of art is a global trend in the 21st century, which makes the artworks known to the
public as everyone is able to see it in auctions, galleries and media. Commercialism in the recent days
has an important presence in the 20th century and contemporary Chinese art market, since money is
no longer an option while people are buying, selling, collecting and dealing artworks not only in
China but also all over the world. In less than twenty year s time, the contemporary Chinese art market
dramatically grew to an enviable position due to rapid expansion of economy, boasting with high
market confidence and a record of continued growth in comparison to other markets in the globe ...

Globalization and Commercialization of Art
The effect of globalization has changed the art market globally. International trade restriction has
eliminated. Civilizations are converging, both physically and virtually (via Internet and electronic
media). Despite the financial crisis, art and the other commodities such as gold, jewelry and wine have
retained the attention and confidence of the new investor especially in China (Kadhim, 2012). As a
result, artworks are traded as asset and have become more of a method that can generate acceptability
and credibility. In the general economic concept, process of production and consumption has four key
elements: production, distribution, exchange and consumption. Production creates products
corresponding to certain human needs. Distribution and exchange allocate the products to the final
consumers. However, artworks do not follow such process; they have become the direct objects to
individuals that appreciate and collect them. In other words, artworks create the consumers, and the
consumption of artworks creates the artists (Kadhim, 2012).
China is a fast emerging country with a consumer society with consumers developing a taste for
luxury goods. And art falls into this trend as well. The need of art in China currently seems like it is
driven by monetary considerations rather than aesthetic or cultural ones (Joy Sherry Jr., 2004). In
2014, China accounts for ¼ of

Dust Bowl Refugees In The 1930 s
The 1930 s were a time of tragedy for Midwestern people who lived in the United States, especially
farmers in the Great Plains region. During this time crops perished and winds picked up causing a
massive dust storm to begin. In the course of this catastrophe at least 350,000 Okies loaded their
belongings into cars and trucks and headed to California (Henretta, Hinderaker, Edwards, and Self
688). Californians were opposed to the arrival of these dust bowl refugees because they were

These dust bowl refugees thought that California could be their salvation and a lot of them weren t
disappointed because the state distributed millions of dollars worth of relief supplies to dust bowl
refugees, ( Kern Will Probe 6) throughout the 1930 s. However, even with these federal relief
programs a numerous amount of these refugees still weren t wealthy by any means and were at a very
low point in their lives looking for any opportunity to stay alive. This alarming reality lead many of
these refugees to commit crimes for money or just to end up in prison where they would be fed and
sheltered. In San Quentin California alone the states of Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas
contributed 882 prisoners, ( Dust Bowl Folks 2) to their state prison in 3 years. Those refugees
accounted for 18 percent of San Quentin State Prison s total inmate population. In short, this not only
put California in a social slump but also an economic crisis. Thus causing many Californians to be
aggravated with the reality that thousands of these people were coming to live in their home state. Not
only were these refugees coming to their state and committing crime, the state of California and the
tax payers were now the ones responsible for feeding and sheltering these criminals. Most importantly,
this responsibility wasn t cheap, the average cost per year of a prisoner in San Quentin is $215,
making a total of $190,512, ( Dust Bowl Folks 2) according to the Healdsburg Tribune in 1939. Sadly,
even those who didn t resort to crime and came to California with the best of intentions often only
caused problems for Californians. Employment groups and local businesses often had to halt
employee hiring. They wanted to try to make sure that Californian citizens were the ones getting the
jobs over the refugees. However, with the magnitude of people trying to get jobs and the fact that

Summary Of Archilochus And Fragment 31 By Sappu
Three lyric poems from the archaic period allow for an examination of the representation of the
pronoun I, namely fragments 191 and 193 by Archilochus and fragment 31 by Sappho. Both poems
provide graphic descriptions of individuals stricken by love for a woman that is implied to be unaware
of their affection. Although the two poets share a number of characteristics in terms of general topic
and poetic mechanisms, they hold a fundamental set of differences in their approaches to universality,
specificity, public, and private.
Sappho writes occasional poetry in melic verse she, as the sole speaker, presents thoughts and feelings
in an emotional way that can be targeted at individuals ( For the moment I glance at you, your sweet ...

Fragment 191 and fragment 193 both also fit into the category of melic monody, although they do not
fulfill the criteria as strongly as do Sappho s works. They are undeniably emotional poems about
thoughts and feelings, but the intensity found in Sappho s work is reduced in that of Archilochus by
his more sweeping illustration of his experience with sense robbing love.
Archilochus uses intense language that might be relatable and universal, but the vagary of the actual
sensations ( the passion of love that coiled itself beneath my heart / and poured thick mist across my
eyes, / robbing me of my tender senses ) makes it harder for a reader to feel the sensations as they read
as they might with Sappho. His descriptions are also less physical he is gripped by longing and in
bitter pain, but they are public descriptions of general experiences related to the discomfort of love
they are no more than one might say in casual conversation. Sappho s descriptions are liveable,
inhabitable, vicarious, and shocking. Her powerful descriptions align heavily with historical
perspectives of women as hysterical individuals who were heavily invested in emotions, which can in
turn be contrasted with Archilochus rather detached and public

Singing While Playing An Instrument
Singing while playing an instrument is no easy feat and some of the most talented players can start
making mistakes when singing is involved. You might have spent your playing career looking at your
instrument and taking your eye of the instrument can result in missed notes or stumbling words.
But adding singing to your playing can be extremely useful skill to master. It can add more depth to
your band s performance, make socialising with friends a bit more fun and improve your playing. So
how can you do it?
Become One With Your Instrument
It might sound obvious, but unless you are comfortable with the instrument you play, you are
complicating things by starting to sing. If getting through a song on your guitar is difficult enough
without singing, you are probably better off taking a few online lessons to improve your skillset before
starting to sing.
Being comfortable playing the guitar doesn t necessarily mean you need to be a master of your
instrument. You just need to be aware of the most essential skills, like being able to play the chords of
your chosen song without thinking too much.
Indeed, singing while playing a musical instruments like the piano or the guitar can be useful when
you are practicing notes, chords and the like, but you should definitely learn the basics of both
separately before you take it all a step further.

Irony In Oscar Wilde s Quot Essay
Wilde comments on the honesty of the aristocracy of Victorian society through his motif of lies and
deceit while also adding his usual comedic touch. The entire play functions around lies created to
either get out of events like dinner with Algernon s Aunt or get girls like Cecily. Jack jokingly
comments that truth isn t the sort of thing one tells a nice sweet refined girl (Greenblatt 1711).
Algernon adds irony to the play when he brings up false impressions, My dear Algy, you talk exactly
as if you were a dentist. It is very vulgar to talk like a dentist when one isn t a dentist after he has just
held his friends case captive, knowing he was running frantic over it. Truth shows up in a negative
light for the aristocracy again when Algernon says the truth is rarely pure and never simple
(Greenblatt 1703). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps, one of the greatest takeaways is that the upper class in the play walks away from their
numerous lies and games of deceit with no consequence. Nor do they seem to show remorse or regret
for the lies they ve told. Both Algernon and Jack get the girls they dream of, because the luxuries and
financial status of the elite usually provide them with what they want. Instead of suffering the normal
consequences of deceit, Wilde uses simple self centeredness as Jack s escape by way of Gwendolyn s
instantaneous verdict that Jack probably lied about his name as an excuse to see her in town more
often. In the play, lies become another trivial issue while being manipulated successfully to achieve
happiness for oneself. Coupled with vanity and conceit, the attitude of the elite in The Importance of
Being Earnest imitates the attitudes of the vain Victorian aristocracy during Wilde s

The New University Essay
The issue of the New University that I am analyzing was published on September 17, 2001. My
argument is that UCI consists of a magnanimous community in times of peril, hardship, and
persecution. The abounding professional aid available on campus provides a healthy recovery in times
of difficulty. Whether students decide to find assistance from doctors, professors, counselors, friends
and family, UCI has a mass variety of people to talk to in order for guidance. The tragedy of the twin
tower bombings sparked a new situation for people around the country. Since experiencing such a
large attack on home soil for the first time, many students had no plan of action, the best response as
said by Dr. James Cones is, people [should] get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those ideals are found right here at UCI. Hatred is everywhere. It is natural to start blaming and
pointing fingers to specific groups of people. The Muslim community was no exception and was
awaken to such bias. However, 9/11 was not the first time such tensions occurred. In October of year
2000, there was a heated debate amongst Jewish, Israeli, Palestinian and Muslim students during a
peaceful protest against the discord in the Middle East (Santos 18) on campus. Many were reminded
of this protest as soon as the catastrophe in New York happened. Muslims tried to explain that those
who caused the event were not representing the entire, large Muslim community in the world. Those
Muslims are extremists, not UCI students. In order to overturn the hate, the supportive community at
UCI reminded those short fused people the definition of being an American. Not only that, UCI
created workshops for high schools to implement a way to discourage any types of racism or
acrimonious actions meant to be destructive toward all Muslims. The Declaration of Independence

Fall Of Communism In The Czech Republic

Life Before and After the Fall of Communism in the Czech Republic
Recently the senate and county elections in the Czech Republic confirmed that the preference of
Czech voters is shifting to the left, what s more the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia got the
second highest number of votes. The results are disturbing, because the last time Communists won the
polls, the Czechs ended up being oppressed for over 40 years until they managed to overthrow the
government. Now it seems that the same people have suffered from a collective memory loss. Have
they forgotten how life was before 1989 and what crimes the communists committed during their
reign? Voting for the communists is a mistake, which should never be made, because it ... Show more

The reason was that the communists got rid of inconvenient people. They fired people, they made sure
their children couldn t get on the desired universities; they blackmailed, tortured and killed people
through staged trials. For the majority of society it was simpler to act as if they were okay with the
regime. In this day and age human rights are secured through countless declarations, laws and treaties.
International organizations oversee observance and countries that breach these contracts have to face
sanctions and they have to answer to the International Court of Justice.
There are also major differences in the everyday life of normal people back then and now. During the
reign of Communists it was forbidden to travel out of Czechoslovakia. Only those, who had special
permission, could travel abroad and even then, most of these people were monitored by the secret
service. Communism is strictly against capitalism hence the Communists tried to convince the public
that the capitalistic countries were bad and that economically and socially communistic countries were
better off than most of the western capitalistic world. Thus they couldn t let people travel abroad,
because it would be clear right away that they were knowingly deceiving them. People had also a hard
time when they went to shop. There were no products from capitalistic countries and everywhere the
selection was very poor. Things as clothes, modern technology or even meat were scarce products.

The Weight Reduction Of The Drive Shaft
Abstract Almost all automobiles (at least those which correspond to design with rear wheel drive and
front engine installation) have transmission shafts. The weight reduction of the drive shaft can have a
certain role in the general weight reduction of the vehicle and is a highly desirable goal, if it can be
achieved without increase in cost and decrease in quality and reliability. It is possible to achieve
design of composite drive shaft with less weight to increase the first natural frequency of the shaft and
to decrease the bending stresses using various stacking sequences. By doing the same, maximize the
torque transmission and torsional buckling capabilities are also maximized.
Key Words: Propeller shaft, Drive shaft, optimization, Composite material, Composite drive shaft
design etc. INTRODUCTION
The advanced composite materials such as Graphite, Carbon, Kevlar and Glass with suitable resins are
widely used because of their high specific strength (strength / density) and high specific modulus
(modulus / density). Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for long, power driver shaft
(propeller shaft) applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored to increase the torque they can
carry as well as the rotational speed at which they operate. The drive shafts are used in automotive,
aircraft and aerospace applications. The automotive industry is exploiting composite material
technology for structural components construction in order to obtain the reduction

The Successful Failure Of NASA
A few decades ago, going to the space seemed impossible to man but after many technological
advances, man found a way to get to the space. NASA, NASA primary has improved its space mission
shuttles and on each one, they were getting better and gaining confidence about sending shuttles to
outer space until the thirteenth mission to space, also known as the Successful Failure, made them
realize that going to space is a risk, even with the most advanced technology.
Before NASA started sending astronauts to space, they first sent a chimpanzee because of all the
doubts that they had about humans being able to resist the extreme conditions on space. After the
chimpanzee came without problem from space; NASA started to plan the first manned mission to
space, while planning it they had to decide which pilot they were going to send. ... Show more content

successful since its approval in March 1998 as a first in class erectile dysfunction (ED) medication.
We achieved gross revenue of $1.9 billion last year despite competition from the two other branded
drugs in our market, Cialis and Levitra. As we look to the future and our patent expiration in 2020, we
need to plan to face our generic competition. The goal for the Viagra post patent expiration Strategic

Year after year, we have taken advantage of our position by setting our own price rather than basing it
on demand and supply equilibrium. The latest sales numbers from 2011 shows Viagra s success in
having the largest market shares compared to our competitors: ED Drugs | Market Share | Sales |
Viagra(Pfizer) | 45% | 1.9 B | Cialis(Eli Lilly) | 36% | 1.5 B | Levitra (Bayer AG) | 15% | 0.5 B |
FUTURE OF VIAGRA Change in Demand and Supply Again, similar to Zoloft, once Viagra s patent
expires, the generic competitors entering the market will force Viagra to significantly drop its price in
order to remain competitive. The pricing will affect the demand which means the demand is now
elastic rather than inelastic. In addition to the change in demand from inelastic to elastic, the supply
curve will also shift outward quite drastically as multiple generic manufacturing firms enter the
market causing the ED market to progress further into a monopolistic competitive market. Consumers
Although we have achieved high profits with Viagra, we still have more opportunities to grow our
market shares and maximize profits. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH),
approximately 30 million men in the United States are affected by ED. [5] Of those affected, 80% of
those men do not seek treatment and never discuss their issues with their doctors. [6] Most men have

Gianlorenzo Bernini s The Ecstasy Of Saint Teresa
The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa is an architecture of the Baroque period in which light was used to convey
spiritual meaning upon this sculpture. It was sculpted from 1647 52 by Gianlorenzo Bernini for the
Santa Maria della Vittoria, in Rome, Italy. This architectural piece is made out of marble. One way
that the sculpture uses light to convey spiritual meaning is through the allegorical depiction of a dove
in the background, which represents the light of the Holy Ghost. Another way that the sculpture
conveys spiritual meaning by using light in the content is through the gilded stucco rays that surround
the angel and Teresa. The artist, Gianlorenzo Bernini, used the structure of the church to provide light

Historical Reflection Of The Film Invictus

Invictus
The two segregated fences that separated South Africa were broken down by former South African
President Nelson Mandela, who used South Africa s Springboks rugby team as a tool to unite the
economically and racially divided country that was suffering by the Apartheid that lasted about 50
years. Yet Nelson Mandela made it his goal to conquer the white supremacy and racial segregation of
his beloved country. Mandela s long journey and dedication for South Africa was duplicated by
Director Clint Eastwood s Oscar nominated film, Invictus. In novel Invictus by John Carlin he makes
Nelson s Mandela s accomplishment of ending the apartheid more strategic and political unlike the
film but kept to Mandela s character. Clint Eastwood showed Mandela as powerful, yet approachable
and humble leader who strategically used the popular universal language of sports to unite post
apartheid South Africa. Director Eastwood balanced the historical significance of South Africa s
struggles of the time and was yet able to make the film into a classic hollywood sports drama.
When Nelson Mandela was elected as South Africa s president he did not take any breaks, his mission
and dedication showed in all his actions to remove hate and racial inequality from his country. During
Mandela s first few days of his term he noticed that the cabinet members of the Apartheid were
quickly leaving as the new cabinet members stepped in and he saw this as an opportunity to remove
racial segregation in the workplace. Mandela respectfully asked the Afrikaner members to join his
committee to try and give equality throughout post apartheid South Africa. Many South African s were
shocked by Mandela s forgiveness, even the black Africans of his own cabinet, who have to work
alongside the same Afrikaners who singlehandedly made the Apartheid. Clint Eastwood included this
event in the film because it spotlighted on Mandela s efforts and his commitment to promote progress
in South Africa.
The moment of Mandela s direct leader abilities was captured in the film and novel when he fights the

The Concept Of Fate In Oedipus The King
What s meant to be will always find a way by Trisha Yearwood, it is an inspirational quote that applies
to every human being. Even so, it s imperative, when it has to deal with a person s fate. There will be
obstacles that may deter a person s future. It can likewise make a man so focused on his needs that
they may have, which will later result in disappointment to the people around them. People are
neglectful in the decisions they make because they are sure that if they get what they need, joy will
undoubtedly be inevitable for them. The same fate had happened to Sophocles protagonist Oedipus the
king, who had tried to avoid his fate by running away, but eventually, he could not avoid his fate. This
essay will discuss how Oedipus tried to avoid his fate and how he could have stopped his future from
coming to past.
However, when I first started reading the play Oedipus the king the concept of fate came up all
through the play. Because of this many questions came to mind, but only one stood out the most how
did the idea of fate come about? . While the dictionary defines fate as the development of events
beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. The Bible shows that man
was made with the capacity to settle on moral decisions and that heshe is in charge of those choices.
Even so, while reading the play by Sophocles, I was led to believe that our present situation or
wrongdoing of humankind have been determined long before we were ever born

A constitution is a legal document that states what a government is allowed to do and how the
government can do it. It also defines government structures proposing different bodies and agencies an
example being the three branches (legislature, executive, judiciary). The constitution is an important
document specifically to countries with federal systems. A federal system is one where the states get
their authority from the people instead of relying on national government. (Geer et al. 71).
Constitutions are specifically important to countries with federal systems because they prevent
national governments from having too much power, one of the main reasons a federal system exists. A

The Reflection Of Music
Music is one of the most important parts of human society. It is used as an emotional outlet and allows
people to express themselves. Music is a reflection of self. Music is the relationship between tones
that normally on their own would not be too exciting, but once put together they convey emotions,
thoughts, and ideas. Music is meant to transport an individual to another world, the composer s world.
A composer will construct a story influenced by their own lives and their society. An important part of
the music is also the history behind it and how it has impacted people. Music is defined as a practical
activity, and is an art form that has always invited theoretical speculation and critical reflection. Music
is everywhere and is in everyone s life but, not everyone knows its early history and how it evolved
into today s genres. Researching, studying and examining early music and its evolution reveals how
music has transformed from simple monophonic lines with no real timing into large orchestral pieces.
Early forms of music included one or two parts, while orchestral pieces included multiple types of
instruments, each independently playing different parts. Musicology is the is the process study, inquiry
and reflection of music, while it forms its own context and employs distinct concepts, it s clearly
dependant upon and reflective of music as its subject. Musicological research has not been able to
pinpoint what the music of primitive people or non western

Essay on The Allegory of the Cave
In Plato s Republic, the great philosopher describes what is needed to achieve a perfect society. He
addresses several subjects still debated in today s society, such as justice, gender roles, and the proper
form of education. He discusses these issues through his main character, Socrates. Socrates, another
well known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what begins as a modest
question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Perhaps the most discussed allegory
in today s popular culture is the Allegory of the Cave. Over the past decade, several movies have
mimicked the fantasy, the most profitable being the Matrix Trilogy. But what makes this story so
fascinating? Through it, Plato attempts to map ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since these are the only beings they are aware of, the sounds made by the people are also assumed to
come from the shadows. Socrates summarizes their belief system stating, such men would hold that
the truth is nothing other than the shadows of artificial things, (Book VII, 515c).
After describing the setting of the cave, Socrates asks his audience to imagine that one of the prisoners
breaks free from his bonds, and sees the fire and the statues themselves. He notes that there would first
come pain as his eyes adjust to the new light, and disbelief, as everything he had previously thought to
be real is suddenly proven artificial. However, Socrates assures his audience that the man would
eventually come to realize that the people and the fire are more real than the shadows had ever been.
He would ultimately grasp how the fire creates the shadows of the statues, creating a mere copy of the
real thing. He would then conclude that the fire and the statues are the most real things in the world.
Though the man would then seem to be educated, Socrates takes the fantasy farther by dragging the
freed prisoner out of the cave and into the actual world. At first, the man s eyes would dart from the
brightness of the sun, and watch only shadows. Eventually, his eyes would allow him to look at
reflections and finally at the actual objects themselves. He then realizes that the trees, flowers, houses,
rocks, and animals he

African school were segregated just as well as the American culture in the past. The apartheid was a
system of racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa between 1948 and 1991. South
Africans were broken down into one of four racial groups based on appearance, known ancestry,
socioeconomic status, and cultural lifestyle: Black, White, Colored and Indian. Places of residence and
educational facilities were determined by racial classification. America had dealt with these same
issues in the mid 1800 s Southern Blacks wanted public schools for their children but they did not
demand racially integrated schools. Legal segregation of schools did not come to an end until the U.S.
Supreme Court made the decision after Brown v. Board of Education in 1954.
Women seem to take be more successful in both countries as well. Word Press states: Although
African Americans have made great progress in the past 30 years in their quest for equality, a
significant gender gap in educational achievement remains. Black females have made much greater
progress in academic attainment when compared to black males. Several statistics illustrate this fact.
For example, in 2006 81% of black females graduated high school compared to 72% of black males.

Recognition of Gay and Lesbian Marriage and Pluralism Essay
Recognition of gay and lesbian marriage and pluralism
Word Count: 2024
What does pluralism reveal about the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage? What are the strengths
and limitations of this theory in understanding the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage?
Power overlaps between interest and political groups and as a result, political decision making is
reached through negotiation and compromise (Manley 1983). Indeed, when examining the progressive
debate concerning the legal recognition of same sex relationships in Australia, the perception that
power is bartered through interest groups becomes highly plausible through the lens of classical
pluralist theory. There are competing visions of diversity in Australia, and behind ... Show more

The classical pluralist model is distinguished by its example of power being relatively dispersed and
that decision making is open to a variety of interest groups. In Australia, scholarship has settled upon
what Monsma and Soper describe as pragmatic pluralism (1997) based upon political expediency,
explained by the practical character of Australian culture and in the context of same sex marriage, an
interest in giving a fair go (Sky News Australia 2015). The most important predictions about same sex
marriage and politics amount to the flow on political participation and organization of interests. This is
a topic Australian people are interested in. This tenet of Dahl s organizational pluralism urges
individuals to query the conditions of rights, ritual and state recognition in Australia (Dahl 1978). In
this way, classical pluralism s strength in relation to the marriage equality topic is that it speaks to a
future where diverse relationships are supported, instead of denied and shamed.
Australian classical pluralist theory is a conventional corpus, and its core ideas offer one of the more
relevant power analyses regarding polarized concerns for morality in the same sex marriage debate.
Political theorist, Galston, argues that there is a strong case for pluralism being the most adequate
account of the moral universe mankind inhabits (1999). If this is the case, then the pendulum

ETHICS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY ASSIGNMENT
1.1 A stakeholder of a company is an individual or group which either; is hurt by, or profits from, the
enterprise; or whose rights can be abused or must be regarded by the organization.(Crane and
Matten,2007: 57) In the financial crisis case study, one can safely identify shareholders, bank
customers and government as some of the stakeholders who are affected by the banking sector crisis
triggered by the egoistic need to make a return on capital and deregulations. Having identified the
stakeholders, the harms and benefits as it has affected these stakeholders are discussed as follows and
future recommendations suggested.
Using the stakeholders theory suggested by Evan and Freeman (1993) cited in Crane and Matten
(2010: 61 62). The two simple principles of corporate rights and corporate effects were not adhered to.
The bank action violates the rights of the shareholders to information by hidden the truth about the
underlying weakness in their financial position. The fiduciary relationship of bankers with the
shareholders can also be said to have been violated thereby causing negative consequences of loss of
investment, diminishing long term share price and state ownership of banks for example the Royal
Bank of Scotland takeover.
Bank customers were negatively affected through harder to get loan, falling value of housing market,

  • 2. The Civil Right Movement In The 1960 s Everyone as a child has a role model someone that they look up to for advice. This person was my uncle. My uncle was the first person to attend a college. This was the person that embed the idea that I will be following in the footsteps and attend college. My parents at that time did not really push me they were focused on making sure there was food on the table. Also during my middle school year he was the main advocate for me to attend Verbum Dei High School instead of following my cousin and attending Serra High School. He has open my eyes to the injustice in this world. Once I ask him why he not attended UCLA I was really confused because he decides to attend the local community college instead. That was the point where he disclosed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 15, 2011. Thanks to the passing of the California Dream Act my uncle now attends the University of California Los Angeles. It was a topical November day. I was in the beginning of eight grade year. I was looking thru my Facebook newsfeed and I see a picture of my Uncle sitting down in the middle of the State Capitol in Montgomery Alabama. Well reading this post he said I am willing to go to jail for what I believe in . I remember reflecting on this. His action really motivated me and still motivated me to this day. It made me think of the Civil Right Movement of the 1960 s and how if you speak your mind it can make a difference. He sat there in the middle of the Capitol since it open till he was forcibly removed by the Capitol Police and arrested. He was willing to face deportation for a cause. I feel that if I attend this trip I can make a different. There two ways to make a different in this country protest or lobbying for it. If I would attend I would want to talk to a republican Congressman from California. If I get the opportunity to speak to the congressman/ women hopefully I can give this person a different perspective on the issue. Big things don t happen overnight and if I am able to do that then I have already made a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Newark High School Rewriting Research Paper The public school system in Delaware isn t exactly prestigious. Senior English Honors required a total of three written papers, one of them over the summer, and the writing focus was on the CSQT. A simple formula for a paragraph that a monkey could handle, its meaning is Claim, Set up, Quote, and Tie in. If you had an opening and closing paragraph and three CSQT s in a paper at Newark High School, you were a genius. Joseph Harris, the writer of the textbook Rewriting: How to do Things with Text, implores his readers to think of the act of writing as re writing. Taking information, thoughts, ideas, concepts from writers and utilize them with new concepts to create a fresh and more tailored piece from the new writer s perspective, essentially using old to create new, the theory of conservation of mass applied to writing. This process of taking others work and utilizing it for rewriting, is very different than what Newark High School had in mind, for the concept of the CSQT left little room for creativity. The focus was on making a claim, and using quotations to point out why that stance was the best choice. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any journaling that is done is essentially the dumping of all internal feelings onto paper. There is no rhyme or reason to what is on the paper, it s just whatever feeling happens to be at the forefront of the mind at the time. Quotes are often involved in journaling as well as activities like blogging or emailing, however they are included to stand alone, functioning as a reminder or a type of encouragement, for either the author or the recipient. In such mediums like emailing or blogging, the reiteration of the day s events may include summaries of books read or phrasing of new ideas introduced throughout the day mixed with personal opinions on what occurred. • 4. What It s Like To Be A Gang Member The lives of gang members, especially ones that are young, were filled with many challenges of everyday life. Both the analytical essay What It s Like To Be A Gang Member and the poem We Real Cool portray the life of a participant as short and fatal. This demonstrates that its life is very violent and scary. They foreshadow that the organizations recruit young kids to do the dirty work. In What It s Like To Be A Gang Member, the author Bill Lee, a previous member, portrays what then life is like. According to the quote I was just 8 when I got into the gang life, boys are recruited when they are very young which becomes scary and violent. Bill Lee also quotes I started with stealing, picking fights, and peddling goods. This shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is difficult to suggest what the comfortable view of normal is as there are many different perceptions, which should be considered. In the beginning of Equus one considers the character of Martin Dysart to be normal as he rarely strays outside of societies boundaries. However, as we move through the play one discovers there is much more to Martin Dysart than once thought. In reality the themes dealt with in Equus challenges our own sense of what is normal. They are as equally as shocking to Dysart, yet made justifiable by Alan Strang s worship for Equus, the god of horses. Through the help of Strang, Dysart acknowledges this and realises his job consists of removing the good smile in a child eyes . He feels as though by limiting one to the constraints of normality part of their humanity is lost. This is shown through his dream on page 24. This dream is the first time that the audience can see Martin Dysart s transition from the comfortable view of what is normal to a more unique view on life. Peter Shaffer uses Equus as a device to standardize and make the abnormal acceptable. In reality many of the themes and actions dealt with challenge our sense of normality so by introducing an element of innocence into Strang s character, we as an audience, are suddenly forced to connect and sympathise for him. The innocence is ultimately illustrated by Strang s worship and love for Equus. Without the element of innocence it would be difficult to forgive his defiance of the comfortable view of what is normal. Yet without the defiance we would be unable to forgive him for fitting the societies view of what is normal. As more and more outlets spring up around the world, many more stories are able to be covered by different outlets, and this means that journalism takes on a more and more important role in a contemporary society. Much of our lives centre on political and social happenings, and journalistic outlets are the public s way of finding all the information on these event. This is a ground breaking economic deal, and holds a great deal of importance for the 800 million citizens of the countries involved, as well as the rest of the world. With worldwide coverage of this deal, it is inevitable that different types of reporting occurs, and that different outlets will provide different accounts. With so many different journalism outlets around the world and locally, many have to have a way of standing out from the crowd. In the general economic concept, process of production and consumption has four key elements: production, distribution, exchange and consumption. Production creates products corresponding to certain human needs. Distribution and exchange allocate the products to the final consumers. However, artworks do not follow such process; they have become the direct objects to individuals that appreciate and collect them. In other words, artworks create the consumers, and the consumption of artworks creates the artists (Kadhim, 2012). Archilochus uses intense language that might be relatable and universal, but the vagary of the actual sensations ( the passion of love that coiled itself beneath my heart / and poured thick mist across my eyes, / robbing me of my tender senses ) makes it harder for a reader to feel the sensations as they read as they might with Sappho. The pricing will affect the demand which means the demand is now elastic rather than inelastic. In addition to the change in demand from inelastic to elastic, the supply curve will also shift outward quite drastically as multiple generic manufacturing firms enter the market causing the ED market to progress further into a monopolistic competitive market. Consumers Although we have achieved high profits with Viagra, we still have more opportunities to grow our market shares and maximize profits. • 28. Historical Reflection Of The Film Invictus Elizabeth Garcia Perales Professor Williams English 101 10/24/17 Invictus The two segregated fences that separated South Africa were broken down by former South African President Nelson Mandela, who used South Africa s Springboks rugby team as a tool to unite the economically and racially divided country that was suffering by the Apartheid that lasted about 50 years. Yet Nelson Mandela made it his goal to conquer the white supremacy and racial segregation of his beloved country. Mandela s long journey and dedication for South Africa was duplicated by Director Clint Eastwood s Oscar nominated film, Invictus. In novel Invictus by John Carlin he makes Nelson s Mandela s accomplishment of ending the apartheid more strategic and political unlike the film but kept to Mandela s character. Clint Eastwood showed Mandela as powerful, yet approachable and humble leader who strategically used the popular universal language of sports to unite post apartheid South Africa. Director Eastwood balanced the historical significance of South Africa s struggles of the time and was yet able to make the film into a classic hollywood sports drama. When Nelson Mandela was elected as South Africa s president he did not take any breaks, his mission and dedication showed in all his actions to remove hate and racial inequality from his country. During Mandela s first few days of his term he noticed that the cabinet members of the Apartheid were quickly leaving as the new cabinet members stepped in and he saw this as an opportunity to remove racial segregation in the workplace. Mandela respectfully asked the Afrikaner members to join his committee to try and give equality throughout post apartheid South Africa. Many South African s were shocked by Mandela s forgiveness, even the black Africans of his own cabinet, who have to work alongside the same Afrikaners who singlehandedly made the Apartheid. Clint Eastwood included this event in the film because it spotlighted on Mandela s efforts and his commitment to promote progress in South Africa. The moment of Mandela s direct leader abilities was captured in the film and novel when he fights the new Rugby Sport and Clint Eastwood added how separated black and white ... Even so, it s imperative, when it has to deal with a person s fate. There will be obstacles that may deter a person s future. It can likewise make a man so focused on his needs that they may have, which will later result in disappointment to the people around them. People are neglectful in the decisions they make because they are sure that if they get what they need, joy will undoubtedly be inevitable for them. The same fate had happened to Sophocles protagonist Oedipus the king, who had tried to avoid his fate by running away, but eventually, he could not avoid his fate. This essay will discuss how Oedipus tried to avoid his fate and how he could have stopped his future from coming to past. However, when I first started reading the play Oedipus the king the concept of fate came up all through the play. Because of this many questions came to mind, but only one stood out the most how did the idea of fate come about? . While the dictionary defines fate as the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. The Bible shows that man was made with the capacity to settle on moral decisions and that heshe is in charge of those choices. Music is the relationship between tones that normally on their own would not be too exciting, but once put together they convey emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Music is meant to transport an individual to another world, the composer s world. A composer will construct a story influenced by their own lives and their society. An important part of the music is also the history behind it and how it has impacted people. Music is defined as a practical activity, and is an art form that has always invited theoretical speculation and critical reflection. Music is everywhere and is in everyone s life but, not everyone knows its early history and how it evolved into today s genres. Researching, studying and examining early music and its evolution reveals how music has transformed from simple monophonic lines with no real timing into large orchestral pieces. Early forms of music included one or two parts, while orchestral pieces included multiple types of instruments, each independently playing different parts. He addresses several subjects still debated in today s society, such as justice, gender roles, and the proper form of education. He discusses these issues through his main character, Socrates. Socrates, another well known philosopher for his time, happens upon a group of men, and what begins as a modest question, leads into a series of debates, metaphors, and allegories. Perhaps the most discussed allegory in today s popular culture is the Allegory of the Cave. Socrates summarizes their belief system stating, such men would hold that the truth is nothing other than the shadows of artificial things, (Book VII, 515c). After describing the setting of the cave, Socrates asks his audience to imagine that one of the prisoners breaks free from his bonds, and sees the fire and the statues themselves. He notes that there would first come pain as his eyes adjust to the new light, and disbelief, as everything he had previously thought to be real is suddenly proven artificial. However, Socrates assures his audience that the man would eventually come to realize that the people and the fire are more real than the shadows had ever been. He would ultimately grasp how the fire creates the shadows of the statues, creating a mere copy of the real thing. He would then conclude that the fire and the statues are the most real things in the world. Though the man would then seem to be educated, Socrates takes the fantasy farther by dragging the freed prisoner out of the cave and into the actual world. At first, the man s eyes would dart from the brightness of the sun, and watch only shadows. Eventually, his eyes would allow him to look at reflections and finally at the actual objects themselves. South Africans were broken down into one of four racial groups based on appearance, known ancestry, socioeconomic status, and cultural lifestyle: Black, White, Colored and Indian. Places of residence and educational facilities were determined by racial classification. America had dealt with these same issues in the mid 1800 s Southern Blacks wanted public schools for their children but they did not demand racially integrated schools. Legal segregation of schools did not come to an end until the U.S. Supreme Court made the decision after Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. Recognition of Gay and Lesbian Marriage and Pluralism Essay Recognition of gay and lesbian marriage and pluralism Word Count: 2024 What does pluralism reveal about the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage? What are the strengths and limitations of this theory in understanding the recognition of gay and lesbian marriage? Power overlaps between interest and political groups and as a result, political decision making is reached through negotiation and compromise (Manley 1983). Indeed, when examining the progressive debate concerning the legal recognition of same sex relationships in Australia, the perception that power is bartered through interest groups becomes highly plausible through the lens of classical pluralist theory. The classical pluralist model is distinguished by its example of power being relatively dispersed and that decision making is open to a variety of interest groups. In Australia, scholarship has settled upon what Monsma and Soper describe as pragmatic pluralism (1997) based upon political expediency, explained by the practical character of Australian culture and in the context of same sex marriage, an interest in giving a fair go (Sky News Australia 2015). The most important predictions about same sex marriage and politics amount to the flow on political participation and organization of interests. This is a topic Australian people are interested in. This tenet of Dahl s organizational pluralism urges individuals to query the conditions of rights, ritual and state recognition in Australia (Dahl 1978). In this way, classical pluralism s strength in relation to the marriage equality topic is that it speaks to a future where diverse relationships are supported, instead of denied and shamed. Australian classical pluralist theory is a conventional corpus, and its core ideas offer one of the more relevant power analyses regarding polarized concerns for morality in the same sex marriage debate. Political theorist, Galston, argues that there is a strong case for pluralism being the most adequate account of the moral universe mankind inhabits (1999). If this is the case, then the pendulum ... Having identified the stakeholders, the harms and benefits as it has affected these stakeholders are discussed as follows and future recommendations suggested. Using the stakeholders theory suggested by Evan and Freeman (1993) cited in Crane and Matten (2010: 61 62). The two simple principles of corporate rights and corporate effects were not adhered to. The bank action violates the rights of the shareholders to information by hidden the truth about the underlying weakness in their financial position. The fiduciary relationship of bankers with the shareholders can also be said to have been violated thereby causing negative consequences of loss of investment, diminishing long term share price and state ownership of banks for example the Royal Bank of Scotland takeover.
