IT tools to support or enable different types of team cooperation enjoy great distribution. In particular, tools from the field of social software are increasingly being used by companies and teams. In this paper a research project is motivated, which will examine the cooperation context and the tool set of young, innovative companies. The results will give an outlook on what requirements and expectations of employees will provide a working- and tool-landscape in the coming years. In addition, the research orientation is to aggregate knowledge for decision makers in young, innovative companies for the design of digital collaboration.
Policy resolution of shared data in online social networks IJECEIAES
Online social networks have practically a go-to source for information divulging, social exchanges and finding new friends. The popularity of such sites is so profound that they are widely used by people belonging to different age groups and various regions. Widespread use of such sites has given rise to privacy and security issues. This paper proposes a set of rules to be incorporated to safeguard the privacy policies of related users while sharing information and other forms of media online. The proposed access control network takes into account the content sensitivity and confidence level of the accessor to resolve the conflicting privacy policies of the co-owners.

Research panels are under a lot of pressure: for far too long we have treated panels as ordinary databases. As a result, response rates to traditional surveys are in decline and it becomes harder to motivate people to participate in research projects. As researchers, we have to look into alternatives that still allow us to learn about the attitudes and behavior of consumers.
Thanks to the rise of social media, a whole new stream of consumer information has become available and our industry is embracing it as the new Walhalla. By using methods such as ‘social media netnography’ in which online conversations and stories are observed, researchers learn from online sources of textual and visual information that are freely available (Verhaeghe, Van den Berge, Schillewaert, 2009). Instead of asking new input from research participants, existing information is recycled. Because consumers are free to talk about whatever they like, social media netnography does not only provide answers on research questions one already had, but it also gives answers to questions they did not ask and answers without asking questions.
User-generated content is a welcome new source of information for researchers. But unlike our research panels, we should treat this new ecosystem with caution and preserve it while we still can. We need to learn from the past when we experiment with new ways of doing research.
Bridging the ‘missing middle’: a design based approach to scalingdebbieholley1

A paper contributing to EU learning layers project,:Scaling up Technologies for Informal Learning in SME Clusters
A 9.9 million EU Framework Project (2012-2016)
Abstract
Taking innovation from concept through to scalable delivery is complex, contested and an under-theorised process. In this paper we outline approaches to scaling that have influenced in our work in the EU Learning Layers Integrating Project, a consortium consisting of 17 institutions from 7 different countries. The two industries identified for the initial work are the Health sector in the UK, and the Construction sector in Germany. The focus of the EU project is scaling informal learning in the workplace through the use of technologies; the focus of our paper, the ‘Help Seeking’ tool, an online tool developed by co-design with GP Practice staff in the North of England. Drawing upon three Scaling taxonomies to underpin our work, we map the complex and interrelated strands influencing scaling of the ‘Help-Seeking’ tool, and go on to suggest that the typical measure of scaling success ‘by number’ needs a more nuanced analysis. Furthermore, we will propose that the emerging framework enables the orchestration of team discourse about theory, the production of artefacts as tools for design discourse, the identification of scalable systemic pain points, and is thus throwing light on the ‘missing middle’ (where key scaling factors reside between top down strategy and bottom up initiatives).

Presentation to ALT-C 2014
Taking innovation from concept through to scalable delivery is complex, contested and under-theorised process. This report aims to capture the current major themes underpinning scaling, and apply these to the context of the Learning Layers project. An external review of our early ‘Design Research framework for scaling’ has highlighted that the approach is too linear and may rely too heavily on the diffusion of innovation paradigm originally proposed by Everett Rogers in the 1960s, which is less appropriate for scaling innovations in our project. Rather, we start out from design-based research principles where co-design with the users is producing both theories and practical educational interventions as outcomes of the process. This is a robust and appropriate approach suitable for addressing complex problems in educational practice for which no clear guidelines or solutions are available. We suggest that it is therefore also appropriate for multi-faceted and complex research projects such as Learning Layers.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions

How to facilitate crowd participation - presentation in ISPIM 2013
1. Cheer the crowd? Exploiting crowdsourcing as
a problem-solving strategy
Miia Kosonen, Kaisa Henttonen
Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland
ISPIM, Helsinki 19.6.2013
2. Research project
Knowledge Protection and Sharing in Global Value Networks, 7/2011 – 6/2013
− different mechanisms for knowledge protection and sharing
− different products & markets (CHN, FIN, USA)
− in workpackage 2, focus on open knowledge sharing mechanisms: online
co-creation and crowdsourcing
Survey of 244 IdeasProject users
ISPIM Barcelona, 2012
ISPIM Symposium, Seoul, 2012
ISPIM Helsinki, 2013
3. Background
Co-innovators and consumerism
• valuable user input into the innovation process
• lead over companies that do not empower customers
Crowdsourcing as a form of distant/broadcast
search (Afuah and Tucci, 2012; Poetz and
Schreier, 2012; Jeppesen and Lakhani, 2010)
Problem-solving effectiveness key to organizational
performance (Nickerson and Zenger, 2004)
Complexity typical for solving innovation-related
problems and tasks
4. When to use crowdsourcing
(Afuah and Tucci, 2012)
Feature Dimensions
Nature of the problem Ease of delineation/transmission
Modularizability
Knowledge required to solve Tacitness/complexity
Effective distance
The crowd Size
Know-how
Motivation
Solutions to be evaluated Type of solution
Number of evaluators
However, an important question remains: after a decision to crowdsource has
been made, what types of facilitating actions does this require from the
company aiming at having benefit from the proposed solutions?
6. Breeding crowd motivation
1. Provide mentally stimulating tasks
2. Provide timely feedback
“Once you have a prosperous community, you have to give credit back to
its members, by giving attention and taking effort alike.”
3. Facilitate interaction
4. Reward appropriately
5. Build sense of community
6. Select the right communication technologies
7. Putting know-how into action
1. Assess the degree and distribution of know-how
e.g. identifying lead users: netnography, social network visualization
2. Specify tasks/problems on appropriate level
“At times, we have had challenges [contests] with less ideas provided by
the crowd. These have been moments of learning to us: the core things
are, firstly, finding the right community, and secondly, kind of having the
right level of specifying what we are actually looking for. We had to be
more accurate.”
3. Support task interpretation
4. Encourage collaboration, identify and support communititors
8. Summary and implications
Based on the literature review, three case examples and four
background interviews with IdeasProject hosts, we incorporated a
hosting firm’s perspective to study how to facilitate crowd
participation in solving innovation related-tasks.
Breeding crowd motivation and putting know-how into action
Requires resourcing, learning from experience, incorporating
crowds also in outlining problems
Three modes of crowdsourcing opened up; means to facilitate
participation in both contest and community modes
While community in general is more challenging, it also opens up
better opportunities to co-create together with users.
9. Conclusions
Further research encouraged on
− crowdsourcing innovation-related tasks in general
(Santonen et al., 2012)
− when to use the different modes of crowdsourcing:
which types of problems are best solved by contest,
community, or hybrid settings? (Hutter et al., 2011)
− how to overcome other challenges, i.e. related to the
nature of problems and their solutions, or knowledge
complexity/tacitness typical to innovation-related
tasks? (Afuah and Tucci, 2012)
10. Thank you!
