This document summarizes a study that used COMSOL Multiphysics software to simulate electric field distribution in electric discharge machining (EDM) and wire EDM processes. The study modeled electric fields using different dielectric systems, varying the inter-electrode gap and supply voltage. Results showed that maximum electric field depends on these parameters. In wire EDM, decreasing the frontal gap was found to increase the electric field angle and reduce side overcut in the workpiece. Overall, the simulation helped predict overcut and optimize process parameters to improve machining efficiency.
Improving hemoglobin estimation accuracy through standardizing of light-emitt...IJECEIAES
Nowadays, hemoglobin monitoring is essential during surgeries, blood donations, and dialysis. Which are normally done using invasive methods. To monitor hemoglobin, a non-invasive hemoglobin meter was developed with five fixed light-emitting diode (LED) wavelengths at 670 nm, 770 nm, 810 nm, 850 nm, 950 nm and controlled using an Arduino Uno embedded development board. A photodetector with an on-chip trans-impedance amplifier was utilized to acquire the transmitted signal through the finger using the photoplethysmography (PPG) principle. Before the standardization of LED power, we had tested the designed system on fifteen subjects for the five wavelengths and estimated the hemoglobin with an accuracy of 96.51% and root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.57 gm/dL. To further improve the accuracy, the LED power was standardized and the PPG signal was reacquired on the same subjects. With this, the accuracy improved to 98.29% and also reduced the RMSE to 0.36 gm/dL. The designed system with LED power standardization showed a good agreement with pathology results with the coefficient of determination R 2 =0.981. Also, Bland–Altman analysis was used to evaluate the designed system and it showed good agreement between the two measurements.

A hybrid algorithm for voltage stability enhancement of distribution systems IJECEIAES
This paper presents a hybrid algorithm by applying a hybrid firefly and particle swarm optimization algorithm (HFPSO) to determine the optimal sizing of distributed generation (DG) and distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM) device. A multi-objective function is employed to enhance the voltage stability, voltage profile, and minimize the total power loss of the radial distribution system (RDS). Firstly, the voltage stability index (VSI) is applied to locate the optimal location of DG and D-STATCOM respectively. Secondly, to overcome the sup-optimal operation of existing algorithms, the HFPSO algorithm is utilized to determine the optimal size of both DG and D-STATCOM. Verification of the proposed algorithm has achieved on the standard IEEE 33-bus and Iraqi 65-bus radial distribution systems through simulation using MATLAB. Comprehensive simulation results of four different cases show that the proposed HFPSO demonstrates significant improvements over other existing algorithms in supporting voltage stability and loss reduction in distribution networks. Furthermore, comparisons have achieved to demonstrate the superiority of HFPSO algorithms over other techniques due to its ability to determine the global optimum solution by easy way and speed converge feature.

To detect defects of solar panel and understand the effect of external parameters such as fluctuations in illumination, temperature, and the effect of a type of dust on a photovoltaic (PV) panel, it is essential to plot the Ipv=f(Vpv) characteristic of the PV panel, and the simplest way to plot this I-V characteristic is to use a variable resistor. This paper presents a study of comparison and combination between two methods: capacitive and electronic loading to track I-V characteristic. The comparison was performed in terms of accuracy, response time and instrumentation cost used in each circuit, under standard temperature and illumination conditions by using polycrystalline solar panel type SX330J and monocrystalline solar panels type ET-M53630. The whole system is based on simple components, less expensive and especially widely used in laboratories. The results will be between the datasheet of the manufacturer with the experimental data, refinements and improvements concerning the number of points and the trace time have been made by combining these two methods.

The aim of this work is to solve the unit commitment (UC) problem in power systems by calculating minimum production cost for the power generation and finding the best distribution of the generation among the units (units scheduling) using binary grey wolf optimizer based on particle swarm optimization (BGWOPSO) algorithm. The minimum production cost calculating is based on using the quadratic programming method and represents the global solution that must be arriving by the BGWOPSO algorithm then appearing units status (on or off). The suggested method was applied on “39 bus IEEE test systems”, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the suggested method over other algorithms in terms of minimizing of production cost and suggesting excellent scheduling of units.
ASSESSMENT OF INTRICATE DG PLANNING WITH PRACTICAL LOAD MODELS BY USING PSO ecij
This paper presents the optimal sizing and placement of DG by assuming practical load models. The particle swarm optimization technique is used to minimize the multi-objective fitness function (MOFF). This MOFF has considered the performance indices such as a voltage difference index, active power loss index and reactive power loss index. Most of the studies have considered the constant load for distribution system planning which may mislead the exact assessment of the system performance. Thus the voltage dependency of load models is found in a highly demanding issue in updating researches. Keeping in view the urgent need of precise and flawless distribution system planning the effect of different load models on the total load, voltage profile, active and reactive power loss has been evaluated and presented in this paper. The efficacy of the proposed method has been executed by implementing it on the 33-bus radial test system.
Vibrational Behaviour of Composite Beams Based on Fiber Orientation with Piez...IJMERJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: A smart structure can sense the vibration and generate a controlled actuation, so that the vibration can be minimized. For this purpose, smart materials are used as actuators and sensors. Among all the smart materials Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) is used as smart material and the smart structures are taken as carbon-epoxy cantilever beams. In the present work an attempt has been made to study the effect of dimensions of PZT and position of PZT on the natural frequency of smart structure. In this work the simulation analysis and experimental analysis were carried out on the carbon epoxy cantilever beams for different fibre orientations like 00 ,300 and 600 with and without PZT patch at different positions. The simulation is carried out by using ANSYS and experimentation is carried out by using FFT analyser, accelerometer and impact hammer. Both the experimentation and simulation results show the effective control in the vibration of the structure, the required decrease in the natural frequency is observed with reference to the both patch dimension and position. Thus the results of this work conclude that the dimensions of the PZTand positioning of the PZT influences the natural frequency of the smart structure.

Embedded fuzzy controller for water level control IJECEIAES
This article presents the design of a fuzzy controller embedded in a microcontroller aimed at implementing a low-cost, modular process control system. The fuzzy system's construction is based on a classical proportional and derivative controller, where inputs of error and its derivate depend on the difference between the desired setpoint and the actual level; the goal is to control the water level of coupled tanks. The process is oriented to control based on the knowledge that facilitates the adjustment of the output variable without complex mathematical modeling. In different response tests of the fuzzy controller, a maximum over-impulse greater than 8% or a steady-state error greater than 2.1% was not evidenced when varying the setpoint.
A study on modelling and simulation of photovoltaic cellseSAT Journals
Abstract This Paper presents a detailed study on the types of modelling of the PV Panel for simulation studies. The main concern of this study is to analyze the results and compare them under standard test conditions. PV systems are generally integrated with specific control algorithms in order to extract the maximum possible power. Hence it is highly imperative that the Maximum Power Point (MPP) is achieved effectively and thus we need to design a model from which the MPPT algorithm can be realized in an efficient way. Also other parameters should be taken into account for finding the best model for the use in simulation. It is very important to choose the appropriate model based on the application. The models used for study in this paper include the single diode model, two diode model and Simscape modelling. MATLAB/Simulink presents a powerful tool to study such systems. The work tests the accuracy of the models under different temperature and irradiance conditions. The two diode model is known to have better accuracy at low irradiance levels which allows for a more accurate prediction of PV system performance. Simscape, part of Simulink environment, has a solar cell block that makes building a PV model straightforward and much easier programming with full demonstration to all system details. On the basis of the study, the best model that can be used for simulation purposes can be selected. It is envisaged that the work can be very useful for professionals who require simple and accurate PV simulators for their design. All the systems here are modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Keywords: PV cell, STC, MATLAB Simulink, Ideality Factor
Comparison of cascade P-PI controller tuning methods for PMDC motor based on ...IJECEIAES
In this paper, there are two contributions: The first contribution is to design a robust cascade P-PI controller to control the speed and position of the permanent magnet DC motor (PMDC). The second contribution is to use three methods to tuning the parameter values for this cascade controller by making a comparison between them to obtain the best results to ensure accurate tracking trajectory on the axis to reach the desired position. These methods are the classical method (CM) and it requires some assumptions, the genetic algorithm (GA), and the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO). The simulation results show the system becomes unstable after applying the load when using the classical method because it assumes cancellation of the load effect. Also, an overshoot of about 3.763% is observed, and a deviation from the desired position of about 12.03 degrees is observed when using the GA algorithm, while no deviation or overshoot is observed when using the PSO algorithm. Therefore, the PSO algorithm has superiority as compared to the other two methods in improving the performance of the PMDC motor by extracting the best parameters for the cascade P-PI controller to reach the desired position at a regular speed.
Modified T-type topology of three-phase multi-level inverter for photovoltaic...IJECEIAES
In this article, a three-phase multilevel neutral-point-clamped inverter with a modified t-type structure of switches is proposed. A pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme of the proposed inverter is also developed. The proposed topology of the multilevel inverter has the advantage of being simple, on the one hand since it does contain only semiconductors in reduced number (corresponding to the number of required voltage levels), and no other components such as switching or flying capacitors, and on the other hand, the control scheme is much simpler and more suitable for variable frequency and voltage control. The performances of this inverter are analyzed through simulations carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink environment on a threephase inverter with 9 levels. In all simulations, the proposed topology is connected with R-load or RL-load without any output filter.

Comparison of backstepping, sliding mode and PID regulators for a voltage inv...IJECEIAES
In the present paper, an efficient and performant nonlinear regulator is designed for the control of the pulse width modulation (PWM) voltage inverter that can be used in a standalone photovoltaic microgrid. The main objective of our control is to produce a sinusoidal voltage output signal with amplitude and frequency that are fixed by the reference signal for different loads including linear or nonlinear types. A comparative performance study of controllers based on linear and non-linear techniques such as backstepping, sliding mode, and proportional integral derivative (PID) is developed to ensure the best choice among these three types of controllers. The performance of the system is investigated and compared under various operating conditions by simulations in the MATLAB/Simulink environment to demonstrate the effectiveness of the control methods. Our investigation shows that the backstepping controller can give better performance than the sliding mode and PID controllers. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed backstepping controller are verified experimentally in terms of tracking objectives.

A nonlinear model for the vibration suppression of a smart composite elastic plate using graphical representation involving fuzzy control is presented. The plate follows the von Kármán and Kirchhoff plate bending theories and the oscillations are caused by external transversal loading forces, which are applied directly on it. Two different control forces, one continuous and one located at discrete points, are considered. The mechanical model is spatially discretized by using the time spectral Galerkin and collocation methods. The aim is to suppress vibrations through a simulation process within a modern graphical computing environment. Here we use MATLAB/SIMULINK, while other similar packages can be used as well. The nonlinear controller is designed, based on an application of a Mamdani-type fuzzy inference system. A computational algorithm, proposed and tested here is not only effective but robust as well. Furthermore, all elements of the study can be replaced or extended, due to the flexibility of the used SIMULINK environment.

Compatibility Design of Non Salient Pole Synchronous Generatorijtsrd
This paper is focused design calculation of 30 MVA, 11 kV, 50 Hz, two pole non salient poles synchronous generator that use in gas turbine power plant. The choices of specific loadings are magnetic loading and electric loading are involved in that design calculation. The number of rotor slot selection main considered in order to avoid the undesirable effects of harmonics in the flux density wave forms. The rotors are cylindrical in shape having parallel slots on it to place rotor windings. The design system is compatibility based on where specific magnetic loading or specific electric loading with synchronous generator generate more electrical power and to get better performance. The given paper presents a hybrid electromagnetic suspension designed for high-speed vacuum transport, where the main levitation force is generated by permanent magnets, while the electromagnet controls the air gap. The computer model is designed by means of MATLAB/Simulink software package, which allows us to simulate the dynamic operational modes of the system. The calculated studies are carried out when the vehicle accelerating to 1000 km/h with account of track irregularities. Permanent magnets incorporated in the system of electromagnetic suspension make it possible to reduce the energy consumption needed for levitation force generation.

The Application of Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Modeling and Simula...MohammadMomani26
Abstract— This paper accurately models photovoltaic (PV) arrays based on genetic and Cuckoo Optimization algorithms. These algorithms are used to obtain the parameters of the array model based on a PV cell datasheet information. In this work, a comparison between the two-diode model and the single-diode model is presented. The adopted model is implemented on simulation platforms using MATLAB 2020a environment and it is designed to be of use to power electronics specialists. The mathematical analysis of the model is presented in detail where different cases of different temperature and solar irradiance are adopted. The model was tested and validated with experimental data. Validation and comparison data are taken from the Mutah university PV power plant. The results show that the two-diode model is more accurate than the single diode model, Cuckoo optimization algorithm handles the problem with low iterations and better fitness value as compared with the genetic algorithm. The work in paper is useful for power electronics designers and researchers who need an effective and more accurate way to model and simulate photovoltaic arrays.
Electro Discharge Machining (EDM) is a
non-traditional machining process, based on thermo electric
energy between the work piece and electrode. In this process,
the material removal is occurred electro thermally by a series
of successive discrete discharges between electrode and the
work piece. Electro Discharge Machine which has the ability to
machine hard, difficult to machine material and parts with
internal complex shape by using precisely controlled sparks
that occurs between electrode and work piece in the presence
of dielectric fluid. This spark removes material from both work
piece and electrode. Material Removal Rate (MRR) is of
crucial importance in this process. In this research experiment
has been done along with Copper and Graphite tool material as
well as Mild Steel and Aluminium material has been used as
work piece. Three major Control Parameters named as
Electrode Speed (V), Current (I) and Depth of Cut (h) are
considered to determine their influence on MRR. In this
experiment three levels of each parameter has been taken and
an analysis has been made to find out the influence of control
parameters on MRR using S/N Ratio and ANOVA Analysis
Electrical discharge machining is basically a non-conventional material removal process which is widely used to produce dies, punches and moulds, finishing parts for aerospace and automotive industry, and surgical components. This process can be successfully employed to machine electrically conductive parts irrespective of their hardness, shape and toughness.
