Purloined Letter Deception
If you are good at something don t do it for free. Heath Ledger. In The Purloined Letter by Edgar
Allan Poe s detective story, Dupin , the detective, instead of helping police find the Purloined letter he
himself finds and gets the reward. The minster creates two types of deception. The Purloined letter
themes include types of deception : Omission, Equivocation, Falsification, and logic versus
imagination. In the story, Poe demonstrates deception with each of his three main character Dupin :
the detective, G : the Parisian police and D : the minister. G uses Omission during his conversation
with Dupin and Dupin s assistant about the stolen letter. I will tell you in a few words; but, before I
begin, let me caution you that this is an affair demanding the greatest secrecy, and that I should most
probably lose the position I now hold, were it known that I confided it to anyone. Poe uses G to

As G explains in the story the actions of D The minister decamped; leaving his own letter one of no
importance upon the table. D after stealing the letter from the room replace it with a similar paper and
similar writing but worthless to the royal lady. Another time D has improvised his falsification
deception skills when he hides the letter in his hotel. Dupin describes where he found the letter in what
type of quality. This last was much soiled and crumpled. D was successful in fooling G and the
company for three months. As an detective Dupin didn t forget to watch every paper while his visit to
D s hotel room. D, expecting police to find letter in the same quality and in an exclusive spot, astuter
the police and torn up the half letter and made it dusted so it look old; eventually putting it in open
with other paper where police man would not anticipate D to hide the letter. Now it was Dupin turn to

What factors lead to the rise of the pictorial poster
What factors lead to the rise of the pictorial poster? When looking at what factors lead to the rise of
the pictorial poster, it is clear to see that the majority of them occurred in late nineteenth century Paris
and that perhaps one man, Jules Chéret, can be thanked for exploiting and mastering the techniques
which made these posters reach the levels of respect previously reserved for the fine arts. As well as
Jules Chéret and his mastery of lithography I will be exploring the influence of Japan and their
printing techniques upon Toulouse Lautrec as well as Baron Georges Eugene Haussmann s renovation
of Paris during its Second empire, the impacts of the rising middle class, and the effects that tax had
upon the walls of Paris. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this image is missing the simplicity of the previous poster and the skill in which Chéret
prints La Loi fuller s dress in movement cannot be overlooked, it is what carries the whole poster with
ease. As stated by Jane Abdy in The French Poster what makes a great Chéret is the personification of
gaiety in his posters .... the laughing, twirling, sparkling girl whom he uses as a model; the Parisians
adored her , and called her La Cherette (abdy, 1969, p.31) In Les affiches illustr ees Maindron a
section from The French Poster by Jane Abdy, Ernest Maindron talks about that when posters were
very successful, it was often reproduced in a small version so that collectors could have them. A daily
newspaper Le courriere francias made special printings of Chéret posters in a convenient size (22 x14
) as presents to their subscribers (Abdy, 1969, p.171) However, the size of posters not only affected
legibility and who could own them, it also affected the amount of tax placed upon them. All posters
which were to be placed in the streets would be subjected to a government tax. This was varied
according to size; the rate was 6 centimes for the ¼ colombier, 12 centimes for the ½ colombier, 18
for the jesus and the colombier and 24 centimes for all large posters. (Abdy, 1969, p.171) when this
levy was paid, the poster was stamped and approved to be hung in the streets. Figure 3 Hiroshige

Social Construction Of Nature And Environmental Change
The assignment this week challenged us to utilize our course objectives to address the requirements of
the assignment. The objectives include how to apply the concepts of political ecology to
environmental concerns, analyze the link between social, cultural, geographic, cultural, political
factors, and environmental change, as well as assess methodological approaches used for research in
political ecology. In addition, this assignment will discuss how reserves and national parks have been
socially constructed/produced to be protected areas. Following this discussion, the conversation will
include an overview of how this construction of national parks and reserves may result in the property
rights reconstructing the resource into a rival good. Moreover, I will provide a brief discussion on the
relationship between social construction of nature and environmental change. In conclusion, I will
briefly review case studies and frameworks that are related to the conservation of biodiversity.
The ability to apply concepts of political ecology to environmental concerns enables one to understand
why national parks and reserves have been socially constructed/produced. These protected areas are
legally protected to ensure their conservation because of the presence of given environmental
concerns. The article Ways of Seeing Africa: Colonial Recasting of African Society and Landscape in
Serengeti National Park by Roderick P. Neumann was a research endeavor that sought to examine the

1. What Internet business model would be appropriate for the company to follow in creating a Web
site and why?
In creating a business model based on a website I would choose a virtual candy store. Having a virtual
candy store would be an excellent idea for children and for those that has to travel to the candy store
warehouses. Having a virtual candy store would also make it convenient for customers to shop and
buy whatever kind of candy they want and have it delivered right to their front door. With this website,
there would also be an opportunity for customers to order online and if some can t afford to pay for

displays of candies for different events, they have a tab for their new candies, their top sellers, and the

exactly the same but with the same ideas in mind. The Virtual Candy Store website should include the
different types of candies, the warehouse best sellers, best candies, and customers favorite candies.
The website should also have a shopping cart so that when customers are shopping, they can add their
products to their carts so that they can checkout, the website should be a secure website so that
customers can use their credit cards, and the website should also include the history of the company.
On this website, all the links should have their own individual tabs so that each one can be viewed and

400 kV high tension transmission lines near Madrid
Electric power transmission or high voltage electric transmission is the bulk transfer of electrical
energy, from generating power plants to substations located near population centers. This is distinct
from the local wiring between high voltage substations and customers, which is typically referred to as
electric power distribution. Transmission lines, when interconnected with each other, become high
voltage transmission networks. In the US, these are typically referred to as power grids or just the grid
, while in the UK the network is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High voltage overhead conductors are not covered by insulation. The conductor material is nearly
always an aluminium alloy, made into several strands and possibly reinforced with steel strands.
Copper was sometimes used for overhead transmission but aluminium is lower in weight for only
marginally reduced performance, and much lower in cost. Overhead conductors are a commodity
supplied by several companies worldwide. Improved conductor material and shapes are regularly used
to allow increased capacity and modernize transmission circuits. Conductor sizes range from 12 mm2
(#6 American wire gauge) to 750 mm2 (1,590,000 circular mils area), with varying resistance and
current carrying capacity. Thicker wires would lead to a relatively small increase in capacity due to the
skin effect, that causes most of the current to flow close to the surface of the wire.
Today, transmission level voltages are usually considered to be 110 kV and above. Lower voltages
such as 66 kV and 33 kV are usually considered

Politics and The English Language in George Orwell´s...
In Politics and the English Language , Orwell illustrates the misuse of the English language in society.
Orwell believes that language can be used to both actively and passively oppress a society. Orwell has
five rules that connect to Animal Farm and Anthem. His rules are the following; never use a metaphor,
simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print, Never use a long word where a
short one will do, if it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out, never use the passive where you
can use the active, never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of
an everyday English equivalent.

In Anthem written by Ayn Rand, the government manipulates the rules of their citizens and also the
government tells the citizens how to act and talk. Citizens are mortified to step one foot out of their
own house There is fear hanging in the air of the sleeping halls, and the air of the streets. Fear walks
through the city, fear without name, without shape. All men feel it and none dare speak. George
Orwell s essay connects to this because it is unvarying and can be cut into simpler terms. Instead of
repeating the word fear, the author can say fear walks through the city without name, and without
shape. It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a
paper no others are to see. It is base and evil. It is as if we were speaking alone to no ears but our own.
And we know well that there is no transgression blacker than to do or think alone. (Rand 1) When
Equality wrote this, the government obviously did not want him to because it was a sin. Equality s
letter reflects to George Orwell s writing because there are phrases that can be translated into every
day English equivalent.
In Anthem, the author, Ayn Rand, uses words just for the sake of writing. For example, Know what
you want in life and go after it. I worship individuals for their

Essay about Appalachia Culture
Many people have different views on what Appalachia is, I grew up thinking that Appalachia meant
people were dirty, poor, illiterate, inbreed and we also called them mountain people. As I grew up I
realized that most of the things they went through and had a hard time with, I was dealing with the
same problems. So what exactly is Appalachia? Well you will find out as you read on.
Appalachia is no longer the land of severe poverty that it was three decades ago, now the poverty rate
of one in 15 is close to the national average. The number of adults who have received a high school
diploma has also jumped from one out of three to two out of three; and the infant death rate has been

Coal became the fuel that fired the furnaces of the nation, transforming the Appalachian region
socially and economically. Unfortunately mountain people didn t realize the implications of their
mineral wealth. Many sold their land and mineral rights for pennies an acre to outlanders.
Appalachians became laborers rather than entrepreneurs. Coal became a major industry which was
extremely sensitive to outside fluctuations in the economy, leading to boom and bust cycles. The
industry was controlled by interests outside the region, so that little of the profit remained or was
reinvested.
Appalachia is often portrayed as an arrested frontier, a geographically isolated subculture, and
reservoir of culturally homogenous. Appalachians are pictured as proud, fiercely independent, and god
fearing southerners. But in all reality they are portrayed as fighting and feuding, barefooted and
backward, ignorant degenerates, downtrodden by centuries of isolation, inbreeding, and poverty. So
how was Appalachia discovered? Well Appalachia was prompted in the mid 1870s by local color
writers such as Mary Murfee and John Fox Jr. who explored in fiction and travel sketches such
mountain themes as conflicting Civil War loyalties, moon shining, and feuding. (Billings)

The article also suggest that the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere are different in
regards to climate changes. Lewis believes that the southern hemisphere is more likely to have an

Sydney from ranking higher on the list is the fact that it is too wet of a place.

Roe V Wade Case Summary
1. The issue before the Supreme Court on the case of Roe v. Wade was on abortion. In august 1969 a
single pregnant woman based in Texas wanted to get rid her pregnancy through an abortion. But her
doctor denied the request on a reason that it was against the Texas law. Then Jane Roe identified by
the media as Norma McCorvey sued her doctor for refusing to abort her baby she sought legal help
and filed against henry wade, district attorney for Dallas County, Texas. Jane Roe argued that the law
of Texas was unconstitutional. She later on requested an injunction to restrain Henry Wade. Roe s
lawyer claimed Texas abortion law violated her rights under due process clause of the 14th
amendment.
2. The facts of the supreme court in a 7 2 decision declared that it was the legal right to an abortion
under the fourteenth amendment the case filed by McCorvey against her doctor. The district attorney
of Dallas County from 1951 1987 he enforced a Texas law which prohibited abortion. Even though
Roe v. Wade was the defining abortion case in the United States, McCorvey never actually had the
abortion. The case took three years to reach the Supreme Court, during which time McCorvey gave
birth to her baby and put her up for adoption. Norma McCorvey eventually became a Christian, left
her job at an abortion clinic, and would go on to become a powerful pro life voice. McCorvey had the
following to say about a moment of conversion

The Interpretation of Nature in Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape
Garden of Ryoan ji Luis Barragán, the influential Mexican minimalist architect and Pritzker Prize
winner once said that, In the creation of a garden, the architect invites the partnership of the Kingdom
of Nature. In a beautiful garden the majesty of nature is ever present, but it is nature reduced to human
proportions and thus transformed into the most efficient haven against the aggressiveness of
contemporary life. Such design principle, with a strong emphasis on the unity of man and nature as a
way to build freedom and independence in the natural environment of gardens away from the unrest
social political atmosphere, has not only been seen in Western minimalist architecture, but also has
been extensively utilized in Classical Asian architecture. Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and
Japanese Dry Landscape Garden are two typical examples that demonstrate such harmonious
coexistence between artificiality and nature. Thus, with a focus on a comparison between the selected
examples of Humble Administrator s Garden of Suzhou (see fig. 1) and Ryoan ji Dry Landscape
Garden (see fig. 2), this essay aims to analyze the design techniques of the two gardens and how they
respond to their social political and religious environments by conveying different interpretations of
nature. Garden of the Humble Administrator, which consists of numerous pavilions and bridges set

Charles W. Chesnutt s The Passing Of Grandison
All throughout history humans have always tried to gain power over each other. In America it was the
white people who believed all others were inferior and should be treated as such, thus enslaved these
people. Many slave owners felt that it was their duty to take care of these slaves because they were not
mature enough to take care of themselves. The Passing of Grandison By Charles W. Chesnutt
Grandison is a slave owned by the Owens family. The plantation owner thinks Grandison is dumb and
incapable of being independent from the plantation. Thus Colonel Owens thinks Grandison is a good

also mentions to Dick to keep your eyes and ears open to find out what the abolitionists are saying and
doing. They re becoming altogether too active for our comfort, and too many ungrateful niggers are
running away. The irony here is that Dick is trying to get whichever slave he takes with him to run
away. His father is telling him to find out what the abolitionists are doing to abolish slavery and bring
the information back to the south. The Colonel is trying to keep his property safe from the north but
has no idea that letting Dick bring a slave up north is exactly the opposite of keeping them safe.
Chesnutt lets the reader in on Dick s secret leaving them to believe that they know all the secrets of
the story but the reader has no idea about grandison. Dick wants to take Tom up north knowing that he
will be easy to free. The Colonel also knows that Tom would escape in a heartbeat up north and

Police Discretion And The Control Mechanisms
Police discretion is a highly debated topic among many different groups, not only in the United States
but internationally. It is imperative to understand police discretion, and the various control
mechanisms available such as internal control mechanisms, external control mechanisms, control by
the citizens, legislative control, and control by the courts. Each control mechanism plays a vital role in
how officers of the law handle various situations. Not only do these mechanisms control police
discretion they also provide a form of checks and balances to make sure the officers are policing
humanly and not violating constitutional rights. While some controls within each mechanism may be
repetitive they each have significant influences over the use of police discretion and the validity of an
officers belief that they made the best judgment call.
Police discretion: Police discretion commonly is used in crimes such as domestic violence, traffic
violations, and potential hate crimes or crimes involving an individual who is mentally ill. While,
police officers have been trained in many different scenarios it is impossible to determine what
situation may arise. The degree to which police officers are free to make discretionary decisions plays
a role in defining crime control and due process models of the criminal justice system (Abdullah,
2011.) It would be easy if there were only two types of crimes in the world, than police would not be
forced to actually make any decisions on

Amish Cultural Values And Beliefs
The Amish are a secluded religious group with the majority living in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
They avoid modernization and the typical American lifestyle. This writer is from Indiana and
remembers seeing a slow moving large black object early one morning moving across an interstate
overpass. It was beautiful and fascinating as the giant horse was solid black, the carriage was black
and the gentleman was wearing all black. The sun was just rising and it woke this writer up while
driving with heavy eyes. This paper seeks to explore Amish cultural values, beliefs, and attitudes in
order to provide culturally competent nursing health care. It is imperative for nurses to provide
culturally competent care because nurses serve as patient advocates. This role includes respecting the
rights and dignity of all patients. Nurses are not necessarily as culturally diverse as the populations
they serve, so it is important to learn about different cultures such as the Amish.

Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction

species may have become extinct around this time period, their are many theories out there suggesting
otherwise. So in light of that my question is , What mite have been the primary cause or ( causes ) of
the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass extinction ?. This particular question interested me primarily on the fact
that it not only took away many species from earth, but also the many different theories that associate
with this mass extinction. Just as quick as these species were taken from the earth , their origin for
their demise is just as important. The first thing to know about this particular mass extinction is the

Many people often assume the asteroid completely wiped off the land and marine species with just the
impact of the asteroid, but was rather the tipping point of what came next. In fact Choi stated that We
have shown that these events are synchronous to within a gnat s eyebrow, and therefore, the impact
clearly played a major role in extinctions, but it probably wasn t just the impact. ( Choi). The ultimate
reasons for the dinosaurs and other species extinction was the blockage of sunlight which initially
darkened and chilled to earth to extreme temperatures ( Jones). At this point many animals and even
plants started to die off because of the chilling conditions, but that wasn t the only reason for the
extinction of these species. Soon after the dust had settled and the earth was able to receive light, the
planet initiated a greenhouse affect. Which not only put the remaining species at high temperatures,
but their food also became inhabitable (Choi). The evidence of an asteroid theory is supported by the
impact crater, rare metal, melted rock, fractured crystals, and the fossil record (Jones). The impact
crater is actually one the main key examples of why the asteroid may have been responsible for the
cretaceous mass extinction. It showed the asteroid landing on the Yucatan peninsula, and traveling at

throughout the Alchemist is of fate, being at the right place at the right time. I think these two themes
go well together. They are interchangeable. Sometimes you need to be at the right place at the right

Jews was not, the play poses many questions concerning racial, religious and human difference. The
play is especially tricky to examine in today s society, as its anti Semitic themes and language can be
uncomfortable to face in a world post Holocaust. Additionally, the depiction of the relationship
between Jews and Christians, which has always been an ambivalent one, adds a very interesting albeit
difficult dimension to this play. Ultimately, through dramatic plot and distinctive characters, The
Merchant of Venice explores what it means to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One side of Shylock is preoccupied by money and crazed by revenge, while the other represents an
old man who eventually loses everything near and dear to him, an outsider who is spit on by his
Christian enemies and must put up with being called misbeliever, cut throat, [and] dog (1.3.107).
Unlike other antagonists such as Don John in Much Ado About Nothing or Aaron in Titus Andronicus,
Shylock does not explicitly name himself as a villain nor does he relish in his evil behaviour. He does
indeed display villainous characteristics; very early on he admits in an aside that he hates Antonio for
he is a Christian (1.3.37), and his obsession with revenge quickly grows out of control. But what is
complicated about Shylock s evil is that it all seems to stem from the malevolence of the Christians.
One cannot really blame him about being bitter for the times Antonio kicked him and spit upon [his]
beard (1.3.113), or that his money lending business is damaged by Antonio s tendency to lend out
money gratis (1.3.39). Even though the Christians in the play consider usury an evil practice, it is the
only way that Shylock knows how to make a living, and it is understandable that he would be
protective of his business. He shows his more tender side in scenes with daughter, especially in 2.4 as
he leaves home and tells her to shut the door after her, because something firmly secured will remain
safe; Fast bind, fast find ⎯ / A proverb never stale in thrifty mind

For each user, one route (among the defined routes) was randomly attributed at a time band. The trip
time was then calculated, based on the route distances in the central and suburban areas, and the
average speeds on the center and suburb at the given time of the day (randomly attributed among the
time bands of the selected user profile), as calculated on the definition of traffic patterns. The parking
period for each trip was also determined, based on the probability and duration of parking, as defined
in the user profiles.
This step was repeated iteratively, until the total distance traveled by the user reached its range set as

distance traveled and the number of trips).

Given the fact that the longest route defined in the simulation had a length of 7 km, additional costs
per kilometer were not incurred by users in the defined scenarios; single routes also did not justify the
utilization of hourly tariffs.
Car City Club has a different pricing structure: customers must pay a minimum hourly fee (the
minimum rental period is one hour, although vehicles can be delivered earlier) in addition to a variable
cost per kilometer. The tariffs considered refer to the simplest vehicle available in the one way service
(a Fiat 500 1.2L, the same model offered by Enjoy), for the establishment of a more equal base of
comparison between the companies considering the user profiles modeled in the simulation.
Finally, the data referring to private vehicle costs were obtained from a database made available at the

Shattered Glass Essay
Shattered Glass by Billy Ray Have you ever wondered how it would feel to lose your career?
Shattered Glass is a true story of a young journalist who fell from grace when it was found he had
fabricated over half of his articles. He was a staff writer at The New Republic for three years who rose
to meteoric heights as a young writer in Washington, D.C. Looking for a short cut to fame, Glass
combined sources, quotes, and even entire stories. He did everything in his power to make sure that
everyone is pleased by him so that they do not figure him out. In the movie Shattered Glass, director
Billy Ray adroitly shows how Stephen Glass is willing to lie just to further his career as a journalist.

The movie also introduces his co workers and show how much they adore Stephen. Stephen writes a
paper on Spring Breakdown which he describes to the journalists classroom. Editor Michael Kelly
questions Glass about some of the facts in this story. In particular, the fact that the hotel had a mini bar
is questioned. Kelly requests Glass s notes so that it can be fact checked again. Glass then claims to
have consulted his notes and realized that he made a mistake in his story. He corrects himself stating
that the minibar was not part of the hotel room, it was a rental. He offers to resign but Kelly dismisses
the mistake as trivial and refuses Glass s resignation. Even so, Kelly makes a phone call to the hotel to
confirm that mini bar rentals are available. Glass gets away with another one of his fabrications.
Towards the end of the movie, Glass makes up a story completely. He thinks he can get away with
another one, but does not realize that an online magazine found some of his facts as interesting as not
being real. They found out that his sources are fake. All of his notes and descriptions of the people
neither the company are imaginations. Glass makes it so believable for the audience to think that the
story exists that he takes over the audience s imagination. Stephen Glass gets fact checked over and
over by many different people untill they realize that his story and facts do not even excist. It takes
him a long time, but he finally admits that he lied in

Research Paper On Widdershins
Widdershins is the opposite direction as the path the sun appears to move in when viewed from the
Northern Hemisphere. It can also be spelt withershins, widershins, or widderschynnes. Widdershins is
also known as counterclockwise, anti clockwise, or lefthandwise and is considered the direction
opposite from the usual. Walking around something and always keeping it to your left is walking in a
widdershin motion. The German word widersinin ( against + sense ) shares the same origin as
widdershins. The Lowland Scots used the term commonly.
In Wicca and Paganism, widdershins is the opposite direction that a circle is cast; it is instead the
direction that the circle is closed. For sun worshiping traditions and cultures, widdershins appears to ...

It is such a strange word that doesn t really share origins or the general feel of its counterpart deosil.
The two are very easy to get switched around in your head; I have to imagine the hands on a clock
going from twelve to seven without passing six to make sure I have it correct. I once won a round of a
game called Balderdash because of the word widdershins. The game has odd and archaic terms that
the players have to write down plausible definitions of the word. One player then reads out the written
and real definitions and the others guess the correct one. I knew the term so I automatically got points.
In conclusion, widdershins means counterclockwise. It is opposite as the apparent direction the sun
travels in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. It is considered bad luck in folklore to travel
widdershins, especially around churches and fairy rings. It is sometimes viewed as negative, wrong, or
against the norm. To work with negative energy, to banish something, or to close a circle are reasons
to use widdershins in

The Importance Of Becoming A Paramedic
In the future, I would like to become a paramedic. I think back to the time when I was 10 and I has
been in an ATV accident, being the little boy that I was, I was terrified. I didn t know what was going
to happen to me then I hear the sirens and paramedics come racing to the scene. Since that day it was
clear I want to be able to help people when the unthinkable happens. There are a lot of reasons
someone may want to enter this profession. Some want to make a difference in their community, like
myself some have a personal experience driving them, and some just want the rewarding career. This
ensures you that you can count on the people rendering aid to you because they are truly passionate
about what they are doing. Becoming a paramedic isn t about the big shiny trucks, the flashing lights,
or being able to go eighty miles an hour. It s about being able to truly make a difference and change
people s lives forever. You get to be the miracle in people s lives. You can be the glimmer of hope
when someone is suffering.
That sounds like a very good job to have but it s not always going to be rewarding either. There will
be days where you do everything you can but your best wasn t enough. You will ask yourself Could I
have gotten their faster? , Should I have done something different , or even Is it my fault? . You will
have to see very gruesome scenes but you can t let it phase you because you have a job to do and lives
to save. Being a paramedic is a high stress job. You

The Importance Of Multicultural Communication
With the increased proliferation of organizational settings across many industries, businesses and the
staff members need a more complex understanding of intercultural communication. With that in mind,
it is also important that businesses and their employees engage in an intercultural communication
evaluation and make serious adjustments to address the needs of both the consumers and the
producers. As a result, businesses can elaboratively work toward a future of multicultural connection
and free from stereotypes and discrimination. To support this collaboration, three prestige industries
around the world have been chosen. The three industries Iberdrola, Energia De Portugal, and AES
Corporation will help to make a beneficial impact on different cultural populations with an addition of
explaining their functionalities among those cultures. The first industry is Iberdrola, an electrical
utility company in Spain. The Iberdrola company works with other energy companies around the
globe to provide the best service for a better future. According to the Iberdrola website, Iberdrola
company has been awarded Best Corporate Governance (Spain) by prestigious publication World

book that goes into all aspects of running a business and becoming a successful leader. The author was
the CEO of General Electric for over 20 years. Welch retired in 2001 and spends his time traveling
around the world giving speeches, answering questions and giving advice about how to be able to run
a successful business. After a couple of years of touring and giving advice he decided to put it down

how they feel about things and not be penalized for it. Some people have better ideas than others;
some are smarter or more experienced or more creative. But everyone should be heard and respected.

Executive Powers Of Texas Government
Texas Executive In comparison to the President of the United States and governors of other states the
governor of Texas occupies a very weak office. The reason can be traced back to conditions
surrounding the New Texas Constitution of 1876. The writers of the New Texas Constitution were
cognizant of their experiences during Reconstruction after the Civil War. It was during the
Reconstruction period that the Union Army helped enforce the Reconstruction Constitution of 1869.
The governor of Texas was granted wide ranging executive powers in fear that a possible rebellion

The New Single, By Shawn Mendes
Pop artist, Shawn Mendes, in his new single, Stitches, attempts to move on after a brutal break up.
Mendes s purpose is to notify his ex lover that he will be healed from his endless tries of getting over
her. He aims for an audience that he can relate to, who is going through a break up, and is well aware
of the painful process of getting over the significant other. People may consider that their life is ruined
because they are no longer in a relationship with the person that they love, but recovering from a break
up is evidence of growth and also hope to love again. At the beginning of the song, Mendes executes
the lyrics at a slow pace. The tempo at the start of the song is soft and modifies a settling feeling.
During this soft tempo, Mendes mentions that his ex lover s words are agonizing and cut deeper than a
knife. This represents the suffering and heartbreak of the lover who cannot handle the breakup. Next,
it shifts from a soft tone to an upbeat tone once Mendes says, Got a feeling that I m going under. This
upbeat tone produces the rising of anxiety and fluster which signifies the build up to the end of the
relationship. Ending a relationship is often a long and complex process, with repeated conflicts and
reconciliations. (Smith and Mackie) A breakage to a commitment to the other leaves heartache and
leads to grief. When love is not reciprocated, the rejected person suffers the pains of heartbreak and a
loss of self esteem. The only way to overcome this

The Australian Film Industry
The Australian film industry is currently in a point of crisis due to the lack of audiences attending
Australian films, hence creating a decline in the revenue received towards our national industry.
However, this is not due to the lack of creative talent, it is rather the many underlying issues that don?t
allow the Australian public with the awareness and accessibility of these films. These problems are
within the distribution, marketing and funding of these Australian films, allowing the national
Australian community to not seek for films made by people within their nation due to negative pre
conceived notions and the convenience of going to see a Hollywood Blockbuster. These issues are
seen through the poor release of both critically received films, Jennifer Kent?s The Babadook (2014)
and Hugh Sullivan?s The Infinite Man (2014), both not gaining a wide audience. Through these issues
within the industry, Australian filmmakers have not been able to create the revenue needed for these
films to branch out to be easily attained by the public. The poor distribution of Australian films has
made it difficult for the public to view these said films, due to the lack of theatres screening the actual
pictures. This contributes to the community of the Australian public to collectively be unaware of
these films and leads to the small number of tickets sold in cinemas. With this lack of money being
spent on Australian films, the industry suffers due to with no return going into the

This can be read as a nod to how Frank is like a rolling stone himself, in the way in which like a
rolling stone he gathers no moss, whereby he keeps moving to avoid the less rewarding side of his
criminal activities. Later on in the film the evidence that Colin is a Rat is placed in a Rolling Stone
album CD case Exile on Main Street this use of popular music as a tangible part of the mise en scene
furthers the innovative use of music by Scorsese in his film. The meaning created by this use of album
art can be connoted in many ways, maybe it s the foreshadowing of Colin s Exile after Madolyn
hearing the incriminating evidence that s on the tape, or mayb it s another stamp on franks influence as
taping conversations is a precaution Frank used to cover his tracks, again furthering this notion of his

meets Frank that carries on with a series of different stones songs teamed with classical music. The

The Internet Is An Indispensable Requirement Of Common Man
The internet has become an indispensable requirement of common man these days. Not only business
tycoons or technology geeks but also anyone and everyone around the world is tied to this magical
web today. It has so influenced the people that they need it for everything right from the moment they
wake up till they go to bed.
All activities which we used to do outdoor earlier, whether it s shopping, reading, watching movies,
learning, playing games, ordering food or whatever, is done indoor, in front of a monitor now. The
world has shrunk into a size as small as the size of the smallest mobile phone.
The advancement of the internet is witnessing its positives and negatives today. As many positives
there are, it also has its negative sides. We read daily about hackers looting money online from banks
which we used to consider safe till date. They also trick people by providing fake websites which
pretend to be a legitimate website. Inexperienced people enter their details in it, which reaches evil
hands and causes them to lose their money.
Once your machine is connected to the internet, it is no longer safe. The websites you visit may
quietly install malware onto your computer, steal all crucial data from you and you may not even
know about it.
Hacking, spamming and phishing are the greatest threats on Internet today. The internet can now be
compared to the web where hackers and frauds hide waiting for their prey. Anyone who handles the

Mental Illness In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian era (during the 1800s), it was a common belief that people with psychological
illnesses were adulterated by the devil. Patients with these conditions were treated imperfectly and
lived in unsanitary conditions. For example, most patients lived in cages, and were given minimal
amounts of food, much like animals in captivity. As science progressed, a new perspective formed that
challenged the original beliefs people had about mental illnesses. Not only did society make progress
in the medicine involved in psychological illnesses, but they also made progress in the perception of
these patients. The Dual Diagnosis, Chris Pleasance, Humbleisd.net and VictorianEra.org argue that

Conditions in these prisons were appalling; however, soon improvements were made due to rapid
revolution as stated in the article by Humbleisd.net . This article went into deep detail and history
regarding legislature that was passed for patient suffrage and rights of mentally ill individuals with
serious psychological conditions. A turning point came when, in 1841, the UK government passed a
new act that required them to inspect the living conditions of asylums ( Humbleisd.net ). They
expected it to be a therapeutic environment, not prison like with poor ventilation, as they found it to
be. This support from the government brought about rapid change in terms of asylum life but also
societal perception of these patients with mental illnesses. This source was substantiated by the article
written by the VictorianEra.org website that covers the many advancements in the fields of science
and medicine during the Victorian era. There was a pervading hopefulness among all academicians
and doctors and writers. For the very first time, religion was relegated to the second place as far as
diagnosis and treatments were concerned ( VictorianEra.org ). The people, who were earlier narrow
minded and refused to accept new theories,

Since this graph does not show any outliers, I thought that the line of best fit should be polynomial
since the polynomial curve. I think this because the curve passes through most of the data points and is
the closest R2. These are a bigger difference in the value of 0,02 cm and 0,04 cm. I think this
happened because the holes that were being blocked by the overlapping of the cloth in value 0,04 were
more than in the value of 0,02 cm. The more holes getting blocked by the overlapping of the cloth will
cause the light to not be able to pass through which then causes the results to be low. This is a pattern
that we also can see. Starting form value 0,04 to 0,10 then results do not have as big of a difference as

Most people use it for Christmas and they intend to decorate it with ornaments, lights, and many more

Germany in 1531. Thomas Edison s assistant, Edward Johnson, came up with the idea of electric
lights for Christmas trees in 1882. Christmas tree lights were first mass produced in 1890. The official
Christmas tree tradition at Rockefeller Center began in 1933. Since 2004 the tree has been topped with
a 550 pound Swarovski Crystal star. And since 2007, the tree has been lit with 30,000 energy efficient

Christmas tree was lit on December 13th with temperatures in the 70 s, making it one of the warmest

The first Christmas tree retail lot in the United States was started by Mark Carr in New York, in 1851.
The most popular Christmas trees are, Scotch pine, Douglas fir, noble fir, Fraser fir, balsam fir,

Wuthering Heights Vs Thrushcross Grange
Many plays and novels use contrasting places. In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte sets the novel
around Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, two neighboring houses on the Yorkshire Moors
in England. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are two different places with completely
different characteristics and vibes.
Wuthering Heights is home to Heathcliff, Catherine, Hindley, and Nelly. Wuthering Heights gives off
a more rebellious, free spirited vibe. It has a more country feel compared to Thrushcross Grange.
Wuthering Heights lacks hospitality and comfort. The people in Wuthering Heights represent more
wild, rebellious characters. Heathcliff and Catherine are great examples of this free spirited, wild, and
rebellious characters in how they run off together and just the way they live their lives, especially
when they were younger before Catherine married Edgar and moved to Thrushcross Grange. The
characters in Wuthering Heights also represent a more middle to lower class household compared to
the lavish life lived at Thrushcross Grange. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Purloined Letter Deception If you are good at something don t do it for free. Heath Ledger. In The Purloined Letter by Edgar Allan Poe s detective story, Dupin , the detective, instead of helping police find the Purloined letter he himself finds and gets the reward. The minster creates two types of deception. The Purloined letter themes include types of deception : Omission, Equivocation, Falsification, and logic versus imagination. In the story, Poe demonstrates deception with each of his three main character Dupin : the detective, G : the Parisian police and D : the minister. G uses Omission during his conversation with Dupin and Dupin s assistant about the stolen letter. I will tell you in a few words; but, before I begin, let me caution you that this is an affair demanding the greatest secrecy, and that I should most probably lose the position I now hold, were it known that I confided it to anyone. Poe uses G to deceive the reader; the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As G explains in the story the actions of D The minister decamped; leaving his own letter one of no importance upon the table. D after stealing the letter from the room replace it with a similar paper and similar writing but worthless to the royal lady. Another time D has improvised his falsification deception skills when he hides the letter in his hotel. Dupin describes where he found the letter in what type of quality. This last was much soiled and crumpled. D was successful in fooling G and the company for three months. As an detective Dupin didn t forget to watch every paper while his visit to D s hotel room. D, expecting police to find letter in the same quality and in an exclusive spot, astuter the police and torn up the half letter and made it dusted so it look old; eventually putting it in open with other paper where police man would not anticipate D to hide the letter. • 3. What factors lead to the rise of the pictorial poster What factors lead to the rise of the pictorial poster? When looking at what factors lead to the rise of the pictorial poster, it is clear to see that the majority of them occurred in late nineteenth century Paris and that perhaps one man, Jules Chéret, can be thanked for exploiting and mastering the techniques which made these posters reach the levels of respect previously reserved for the fine arts. As well as Jules Chéret and his mastery of lithography I will be exploring the influence of Japan and their printing techniques upon Toulouse Lautrec as well as Baron Georges Eugene Haussmann s renovation of Paris during its Second empire, the impacts of the rising middle class, and the effects that tax had upon the walls of Paris. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this image is missing the simplicity of the previous poster and the skill in which Chéret prints La Loi fuller s dress in movement cannot be overlooked, it is what carries the whole poster with ease. As stated by Jane Abdy in The French Poster what makes a great Chéret is the personification of gaiety in his posters .... the laughing, twirling, sparkling girl whom he uses as a model; the Parisians adored her , and called her La Cherette (abdy, 1969, p.31) In Les affiches illustr ees Maindron a section from The French Poster by Jane Abdy, Ernest Maindron talks about that when posters were very successful, it was often reproduced in a small version so that collectors could have them. A daily newspaper Le courriere francias made special printings of Chéret posters in a convenient size (22 x14 ) as presents to their subscribers (Abdy, 1969, p.171) However, the size of posters not only affected legibility and who could own them, it also affected the amount of tax placed upon them. All posters which were to be placed in the streets would be subjected to a government tax. This was varied according to size; the rate was 6 centimes for the ¼ colombier, 12 centimes for the ½ colombier, 18 for the jesus and the colombier and 24 centimes for all large posters. (Abdy, 1969, p.171) when this levy was paid, the poster was stamped and approved to be hung in the streets. Figure 3 Hiroshige Plum estate, Kamedio. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Construction Of Nature And Environmental Change The assignment this week challenged us to utilize our course objectives to address the requirements of the assignment. The objectives include how to apply the concepts of political ecology to environmental concerns, analyze the link between social, cultural, geographic, cultural, political factors, and environmental change, as well as assess methodological approaches used for research in political ecology. In addition, this assignment will discuss how reserves and national parks have been socially constructed/produced to be protected areas. Following this discussion, the conversation will include an overview of how this construction of national parks and reserves may result in the property rights reconstructing the resource into a rival good. Moreover, I will provide a brief discussion on the relationship between social construction of nature and environmental change. In conclusion, I will briefly review case studies and frameworks that are related to the conservation of biodiversity. The ability to apply concepts of political ecology to environmental concerns enables one to understand why national parks and reserves have been socially constructed/produced. These protected areas are legally protected to ensure their conservation because of the presence of given environmental concerns. The article Ways of Seeing Africa: Colonial Recasting of African Society and Landscape in Serengeti National Park by Roderick P. Neumann was a research endeavor that sought to examine the ... [pic] [pic] 400 kV high tension transmission lines near Madrid Electric power transmission or high voltage electric transmission is the bulk transfer of electrical energy, from generating power plants to substations located near population centers. This is distinct from the local wiring between high voltage substations and customers, which is typically referred to as electric power distribution. High voltage overhead conductors are not covered by insulation. The conductor material is nearly always an aluminium alloy, made into several strands and possibly reinforced with steel strands. Copper was sometimes used for overhead transmission but aluminium is lower in weight for only marginally reduced performance, and much lower in cost. Overhead conductors are a commodity supplied by several companies worldwide. Improved conductor material and shapes are regularly used to allow increased capacity and modernize transmission circuits. Conductor sizes range from 12 mm2 (#6 American wire gauge) to 750 mm2 (1,590,000 circular mils area), with varying resistance and current carrying capacity. Thicker wires would lead to a relatively small increase in capacity due to the skin effect, that causes most of the current to flow close to the surface of the wire. Orwell believes that language can be used to both actively and passively oppress a society. Orwell has five rules that connect to Animal Farm and Anthem. His rules are the following; never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print, Never use a long word where a short one will do, if it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out, never use the passive where you can use the active, never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent. In Anthem written by Ayn Rand, the government manipulates the rules of their citizens and also the government tells the citizens how to act and talk. Citizens are mortified to step one foot out of their own house There is fear hanging in the air of the sleeping halls, and the air of the streets. Fear walks through the city, fear without name, without shape. All men feel it and none dare speak. George Orwell s essay connects to this because it is unvarying and can be cut into simpler terms. Instead of repeating the word fear, the author can say fear walks through the city without name, and without shape. It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil. It is as if we were speaking alone to no ears but our own. And we know well that there is no transgression blacker than to do or think alone. (Rand 1) When Equality wrote this, the government obviously did not want him to because it was a sin. Equality s letter reflects to George Orwell s writing because there are phrases that can be translated into every day English equivalent. In Anthem, the author, Ayn Rand, uses words just for the sake of writing. For example, Know what you want in life and go after it. I worship individuals for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay about Appalachia Culture Many people have different views on what Appalachia is, I grew up thinking that Appalachia meant people were dirty, poor, illiterate, inbreed and we also called them mountain people. As I grew up I realized that most of the things they went through and had a hard time with, I was dealing with the same problems. So what exactly is Appalachia? Well you will find out as you read on. Appalachia is no longer the land of severe poverty that it was three decades ago, now the poverty rate of one in 15 is close to the national average. The number of adults who have received a high school diploma has also jumped from one out of three to two out of three; and the infant death rate has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (civicnet.org) Coal became the fuel that fired the furnaces of the nation, transforming the Appalachian region socially and economically. Unfortunately mountain people didn t realize the implications of their mineral wealth. Many sold their land and mineral rights for pennies an acre to outlanders. Appalachians became laborers rather than entrepreneurs. Coal became a major industry which was extremely sensitive to outside fluctuations in the economy, leading to boom and bust cycles. The industry was controlled by interests outside the region, so that little of the profit remained or was reinvested. Appalachia is often portrayed as an arrested frontier, a geographically isolated subculture, and reservoir of culturally homogenous. Appalachians are pictured as proud, fiercely independent, and god fearing southerners. But in all reality they are portrayed as fighting and feuding, barefooted and backward, ignorant degenerates, downtrodden by centuries of isolation, inbreeding, and poverty. So how was Appalachia discovered? Well Appalachia was prompted in the mid 1870s by local color writers such as Mary Murfee and John Fox Jr. who explored in fiction and travel sketches such mountain themes as conflicting Civil War loyalties, moon shining, and feuding. The Interpretation of Nature in Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape Garden of Ryoan ji Luis Barragán, the influential Mexican minimalist architect and Pritzker Prize winner once said that, In the creation of a garden, the architect invites the partnership of the Kingdom of Nature. In a beautiful garden the majesty of nature is ever present, but it is nature reduced to human proportions and thus transformed into the most efficient haven against the aggressiveness of contemporary life. Such design principle, with a strong emphasis on the unity of man and nature as a way to build freedom and independence in the natural environment of gardens away from the unrest social political atmosphere, has not only been seen in Western minimalist architecture, but also has been extensively utilized in Classical Asian architecture. Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape Garden are two typical examples that demonstrate such harmonious coexistence between artificiality and nature. It is imperative to understand police discretion, and the various control mechanisms available such as internal control mechanisms, external control mechanisms, control by the citizens, legislative control, and control by the courts. Each control mechanism plays a vital role in how officers of the law handle various situations. Not only do these mechanisms control police discretion they also provide a form of checks and balances to make sure the officers are policing humanly and not violating constitutional rights. While, police officers have been trained in many different scenarios it is impossible to determine what situation may arise. The degree to which police officers are free to make discretionary decisions plays a role in defining crime control and due process models of the criminal justice system (Abdullah, 2011.) At this point many animals and even plants started to die off because of the chilling conditions, but that wasn t the only reason for the extinction of these species. Soon after the dust had settled and the earth was able to receive light, the planet initiated a greenhouse affect. • 27. Executive Powers Of Texas Government Texas Executive In comparison to the President of the United States and governors of other states the governor of Texas occupies a very weak office. The reason can be traced back to conditions surrounding the New Texas Constitution of 1876. The writers of the New Texas Constitution were cognizant of their experiences during Reconstruction after the Civil War. It was during the Reconstruction period that the Union Army helped enforce the Reconstruction Constitution of 1869. The governor of Texas was granted wide ranging executive powers in fear that a possible rebellion would occur by former confederate soldiers and their supporters. At that time Edmund J. Davis, the new Texas governor, used his executive powers to demoralize his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Texas is one of the most powerful states in the union. • 28. The New Single, By Shawn Mendes Pop artist, Shawn Mendes, in his new single, Stitches, attempts to move on after a brutal break up. Mendes s purpose is to notify his ex lover that he will be healed from his endless tries of getting over her. He aims for an audience that he can relate to, who is going through a break up, and is well aware of the painful process of getting over the significant other. People may consider that their life is ruined because they are no longer in a relationship with the person that they love, but recovering from a break up is evidence of growth and also hope to love again. At the beginning of the song, Mendes executes the lyrics at a slow pace. The tempo at the start of the song is soft and modifies a settling feeling. During this soft tempo, Mendes mentions that his ex lover s words are agonizing and cut deeper than a knife. This represents the suffering and heartbreak of the lover who cannot handle the breakup. Next, it shifts from a soft tone to an upbeat tone once Mendes says, Got a feeling that I m going under. This upbeat tone produces the rising of anxiety and fluster which signifies the build up to the end of the relationship. Ending a relationship is often a long and complex process, with repeated conflicts and reconciliations. (Smith and Mackie) A breakage to a commitment to the other leaves heartache and leads to grief. When love is not reciprocated, the rejected person suffers the pains of heartbreak and a loss of self esteem. The only way to overcome this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Edgartown Massacre Meow! Said the kittens at our new local pet store. In the year 2047, we had an overflow of adorable cats at our store, the store dropped the price very low. The cats were precious they were white, fluffy, and had cyan blue eyes. Everyone started to buy them, soon they were all sold out. Almost everyone in our small town of Edgartown, Massachusetts had a cat now. My neighbors Jim and Susan Smith brought one home, then around midnight, my wife and I heard a gunshot very close. We called the cops warning them of what we ve heard. In a couple hours we found out they killed each other by shooting each other at the same time and there have been several other shooting reports around town. • 30. The Australian Film Industry The Australian film industry is currently in a point of crisis due to the lack of audiences attending Australian films, hence creating a decline in the revenue received towards our national industry. However, this is not due to the lack of creative talent, it is rather the many underlying issues that don?t allow the Australian public with the awareness and accessibility of these films. These problems are within the distribution, marketing and funding of these Australian films, allowing the national Australian community to not seek for films made by people within their nation due to negative pre conceived notions and the convenience of going to see a Hollywood Blockbuster. These issues are seen through the poor release of both critically received films, Jennifer Kent?s The Babadook (2014) and Hugh Sullivan?s The Infinite Man (2014), both not gaining a wide audience. Through these issues within the industry, Australian filmmakers have not been able to create the revenue needed for these films to branch out to be easily attained by the public. The poor distribution of Australian films has made it difficult for the public to view these said films, due to the lack of theatres screening the actual pictures. This contributes to the community of the Australian public to collectively be unaware of these films and leads to the small number of tickets sold in cinemas. With this lack of money being spent on Australian films, the industry suffers due to with no return going into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Romney Wootton, 1995: 1)Taking this as a starting point, discuss the use of popular music in either one or two films or the work of one film director. This can be read as a nod to how Frank is like a rolling stone himself, in the way in which like a rolling stone he gathers no moss, whereby he keeps moving to avoid the less rewarding side of his criminal activities. Later on in the film the evidence that Colin is a Rat is placed in a Rolling Stone album CD case Exile on Main Street this use of popular music as a tangible part of the mise en scene furthers the innovative use of music by Scorsese in his film. The meaning created by this use of album art can be connoted in many ways, maybe it s the foreshadowing of Colin s Exile after Madolyn hearing the incriminating evidence that s on the tape, or mayb it s another stamp on franks influence as taping conversations is a precaution Frank used to cover his tracks, again furthering this notion of his character being like a rolling stone gathering no moss. There is a fantastic sequence when Bill first meets Frank that carries on with a series of different stones songs teamed with classical music. The first stones song is heard when Frank first sits down and the scene follows with a mixture of both sex and violence. Scorsese in Schikel (p.271) comments on how the character of Frank equates sex with violence as part of the thrill . Not only business tycoons or technology geeks but also anyone and everyone around the world is tied to this magical web today. It has so influenced the people that they need it for everything right from the moment they wake up till they go to bed. All activities which we used to do outdoor earlier, whether it s shopping, reading, watching movies, learning, playing games, ordering food or whatever, is done indoor, in front of a monitor now. The world has shrunk into a size as small as the size of the smallest mobile phone. The advancement of the internet is witnessing its positives and negatives today. As many positives there are, it also has its negative sides. We read daily about hackers looting money online from banks which we used to consider safe till date. They also trick people by providing fake websites which pretend to be a legitimate website. Inexperienced people enter their details in it, which reaches evil hands and causes them to lose their money. Once your machine is connected to the internet, it is no longer safe. The websites you visit may quietly install malware onto your computer, steal all crucial data from you and you may not even know about it. • 33. Mental Illness In The Victorian Era In the Victorian era (during the 1800s), it was a common belief that people with psychological illnesses were adulterated by the devil. Patients with these conditions were treated imperfectly and lived in unsanitary conditions. For example, most patients lived in cages, and were given minimal amounts of food, much like animals in captivity. As science progressed, a new perspective formed that challenged the original beliefs people had about mental illnesses. Not only did society make progress in the medicine involved in psychological illnesses, but they also made progress in the perception of these patients. The Dual Diagnosis, Chris Pleasance, Humbleisd.net and VictorianEra.org argue that Victorian society s initial neglect, restricted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conditions in these prisons were appalling; however, soon improvements were made due to rapid revolution as stated in the article by Humbleisd.net . This article went into deep detail and history regarding legislature that was passed for patient suffrage and rights of mentally ill individuals with serious psychological conditions. A turning point came when, in 1841, the UK government passed a new act that required them to inspect the living conditions of asylums ( Humbleisd.net ). They expected it to be a therapeutic environment, not prison like with poor ventilation, as they found it to be. This support from the government brought about rapid change in terms of asylum life but also societal perception of these patients with mental illnesses. This source was substantiated by the article written by the VictorianEra.org website that covers the many advancements in the fields of science and medicine during the Victorian era. There was a pervading hopefulness among all academicians and doctors and writers. For the very first time, religion was relegated to the second place as far as diagnosis and treatments were concerned ( VictorianEra.org ). Introduction: During our physics classes, we have been focusing on astrophysics and specifically on different types of light, light in space, light intensity and how to detect and measure the light transmitted. Light intensity is the amount of energy transmitted from a light source and in this lab report I will be focusing on one particular factor which affects the light intensity measured by the Coach Lab light intensity sensor. Aim: My aim for this lab experiment is to find out how the thickness of cotton cloth affects the light intensity, which I will be measuring using the Coach Lab sensor. Hypothesis: ... I think this because the curve passes through most of the data points and is the closest R2. These are a bigger difference in the value of 0,02 cm and 0,04 cm. I think this happened because the holes that were being blocked by the overlapping of the cloth in value 0,04 were more than in the value of 0,02 cm. The more holes getting blocked by the overlapping of the cloth will cause the light to not be able to pass through which then causes the results to be low. This is a pattern that we also can see. In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte sets the novel around Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, two neighboring houses on the Yorkshire Moors in England.
