Carrie By Stephen King Essay
Stephen king is a famous American author who is best known for his horror
novels. Stephen king has written many books including notable titles ones like it
or The shining . Carrie while being one of Stephen king s earlier work, still
provides for an entertaining read. The book presents the reader with a quick and
easy read of a coming of age story with King s signature gruesome twist.
While some of Stephen king s work is incredibly long and challenging to read,
Carrie in contrast is much shorter and easier to finish and comprehend. The small
things King does such as writing thoughts and inner monologue in parenthesis like
when he writes Someone in the background (perhaps Hargensen again, Sue couldn t

Cinema In Cinema
In modern world, the media is consumed by every individual person. This age is the called as the
digital age. There have been many transitions in the media consumption process. The history of media
is a vast subject to study on. As the technology is developed the media takes a new turn and twist in it
s consumption. There are televisions, radio, cinema, theater, social media channels like YouTube,
Instagram etc. that are the media channels to keep the audience engaged. However, new technology
based media platforms are dwelled on the base of old technologies that were the mainstream media in
older times. The audience that consumes the media plays a vital role in influencing the media. Among
all these media platforms, talking about the Cinema, there has been a huge change in the audiences
consuming this medium of entertainment. I am notably interested in the ways that however individuals
developed bound ritual uses of cinema. My intention is to research practices, bound habits and
behaviors of cinema going audience.
The cinema in 20th century has been producing as well as disseminating mass popular culture. The
cinema in 20th century is usually overlooked in number of other ways. The cinema has played a very
important role in mediatisation of the society. Looking back at the time when the first cinema was
released, there were many people who viewed it in mass. The use of a film projector and a camera
resulted in a cinema. It was the very first electronic medium

Argumentative Essay On Technology And Technology
Whether you are a geek, buying the latest smartphone, game console, and latest Apple products or you
are just the minimalist who only has the necessary smart devices like your phone and maybe a laptop,
it is undeniable that technology is making its way into every nook and cranny of modern society.
Owning your own car was treated as a way to be free back in the eighties, but now owning a car is
starting to become a thing of the past as companies such as UBER and Lyft are replacing taxies but
making a new form of public transportation constantly available almost everywhere around the world.
Even though technology has basically taken over every aspect of our lives does not mean that every
person has embraced it with open arms. These days we still have an ongoing debate about whether
smart devices and the internet are helping or hurting society as a whole or not. Enthusiasts on this
topic tend to look at a more optimistic view on this new technological age expressing how they think
that robots and artificial intelligence will change our world for the better both Kevin Kelly s Better
than Human , Clive Thompson s Smarter than You Think , as well as Brooke Gladstone and Josh
Neufeld s The Influencing Machines explore. On the other hand, skeptics tend to write about how
these new technologies are tainting our own capabilities and making us more dependent rather than
relying on our own skills, says Nicholas Carr in his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? . Although
technology has changed many aspects of our lives we should still pay attention to how it has
benefitted many aspects of our daily lives. One of the main concerns that people have in accordance to
new technological advances is how it affects our brains and how we think. Although I tend to be an
enthusiast when it comes to new cutting edge hardware or software I still agree with Carr on the fact
that technology may not be this great learning tool with no downsides that everyone hypes it up to be.
In fact, Carr had one thing that really struck me when he talked about how the style of reading
promoted by the Net, a style that puts efficiency and immediacy above all else, may be weakening our
capacity for [deep reading] (319). In

Females Mental Rotation Study
Background
One theory developed by psychologists working within the biological approach is the idea that males
have better spatial ability than females. Spatial ability is the ability to mentally manipulate 2
dimensional and 3 dimensional figures. One way in which spatial ability can be operationalised is in
the form of mental rotation test. A mental rotation test requires participants to identify rotated versions
of a target stimulus. Mental rotation usually takes place in the right cerebral hemisphere, in the areas
where perception also occurs. Mental rotation can be separated into the following cognitive stages
(Johnson 1990): 1) Create a mental image of an object 2) Rotate the object mentally until a
comparison can be made 3) Make the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Controls in this experiment included ensuring that all participants undertook the task in silence. All
participants took the test in the same school computer lab and at the same time of day (Between 1:00
and 2:00pm). All participants were of a similar age and all participants did exactly the same task.
Participants were seated a desk apart so they could not copy each others answers.
Design
As there are two groups of different participants, one male and one female, to compare times between
groups the research design is an independent groups each participants is only in one group (condition).
Procedure
A pilot study was conducted with 5 students not taking part in the study. This enabled the researchers
to check the timings involved in administering the mental rotation test and also to check that
everything ran smoothly. The study also enabled the researchers to perfect the wording of the
standardised instructions.
For the main study 10 male participants sat at separate desks in the computer room with the mental
rotation programme loaded. Participants read and signed a consent form. The experimenter then read
from a standardised set of instructions explaining the procedure and giving permission for participants
to begin the 10 mental rotation trails when they were ready. Sitting next to each participant was a
research assistant on hand to time the task. In their own time participants began the task matching a

Mexican Boxing Essay
There was a fight in Las Vegas this past weekend to determine who was the king of Mexican boxing.
Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez took on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the MGM Grand in front of
thousands of prideful Mexicans and millions of fans worldwide. While there were two fighters in the
ring, only one came with a purpose. As soon as the first punch landed, you knew it was going to be a
long night for Chavez Jr. The 6 foot 1, tough chinned Mexican was under constant pressure from
Alvarez all night. Chavez Jr. came up short in every category aside height and reach. The statistics tell
us that Alvarez threw and landed more than double the punches of Chavez Jr. Our eyes tell us that
Alvarez could have ended the fight with a knockout, but wanted ... Show more content on

Silly promoters, always ready to set up the next fight. In this instance, they got it right. The ending of
the fight with Chavez Jr. was instantly forgotten and forgiven as Max Kellerman segued Alvarez s post
fight ring interview with a question about Gennady GGG Golovkin (37 0, 33 KO s). The anticipation
in the crowd grew with boos, applause and excitement as the arena screen displayed a compilation of
GGG dismantling opponents. Seriously, you can t script this folks. Or, as the promoters showed us,
you can. As the compilation video ended, Golovkin was shown in the boxers entrance with his
entourage and theme music beginning to play. He slowly made his way to the ring, casually waving at
fans and pumping his fist in satisfaction as if to say, yes, even though I am not fighting, I am still the
main attraction. Alvarez and GGG will be the biggest fight of the year and perhaps the biggest fight
since Mayweather Pacquiao. They ll likely have catch weight in the 160 pound range that is
comfortable for both fighters. At this moment, Canelo holds the momentum as Golovkin is coming off
a slouch performance against a tough Daniel Jacobs, who seemed to get the better of Golovkin at
times. Golovkin is known as a calculating pressure fighter on a level that Alvarez hasn t faced. The
two styles set up as the aggressive Alvarez versus Golovkin, who religiously stalks his opponents until

What are your other commitments? If accepted, how do you plan to balance these with Willow?
My current commitments are my courses and a weekly four hour internship at the UC Davis Medical

Masculinity In Conan The Barbarian
In the movie, Conan the Barbarian, the director John Milius provides the audience with the
opportunity to enter into a fictional world where a man has the ability to transform into a snake.
Throughout the course of the movie, the lead character, Conan, experiences many hardships including
the death of his parents, being a prisoner, and even death. Another movie that involves a fictional
world is Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, directed by George Miller. The setting of this movie in a post

In the movie, Lord Humungus and his gang wear clothing that makes the characters come across as
being tough and dangerous. When they do this, they also attract the eyes of male viewers. These
movies focused on similar ideas that people could make millions out of the insecurities of male
teenagers who could not catch up with the expectations of masculinity (Alegre 89). Throughout the
course of both movies, both main characters, Conan and Max, follow the path of a Hero s Journey.
The Hero s Journey is a common pattern that the majority of hero stories and myths include, it can be
repeated throughout the course of the movie, and this pattern was discovered by Joseph Campbell (
The Hero s Journey 1). There are many elements that make up this pattern, including the ordinary
world, the call to adventure, entering the unknown, tests, and the journey home ( The Hero s Journey 1

out in countless ways, for example, he does not wear much clothing like other people in the movie.
Besides standing out because of his clothing, he also stands out because of his physical strength. At
the same time, Max stands out in a different way. Max just wants to obtain the gas and go about his
way, and he wears clothing that fits neither one of the factions since one faction wears clothing that

Controversia Conversion Therapy Research Paper
Conversion therapy goes by many names, such as reparative therapy, Sexual Orientation Change
Efforts (SOCE), and ex gay therapy, but all are geared towards the same end result: to eradicate
homosexuality as a whole, even if it may be completely natural to the individual. Despite the common
belief, homosexuality is not an illness. In fact, it was declassified as a mental illness from the ICD 10
in 1973. However, there are several organizations dedicated to the very purpose of treating it as one.
While it may seem like an antiquated topic, the issue is still being debated and even encouraged to this
day, despite its lacking ethical standing.
Conversion therapy s core beliefs are deeply rooted in outdated, obsolete, and unfounded ideals. In the
past, the institutionalization of the LGBT+ people has been underrepresented, despite how ... Show

The stigma that those in the community are viewed as child molesters and inherently predatory only
manages to perpetuate negative stereotypes. Instead of attempting to classify and treat homosexuality
as a mental disorder, what should be focused on is the effect such a stigmatization could have on the
patient. In fact, LGBT+ youth are at a much higher risk of suicide, depression, and anxiety. According
to a study entitled: Sex of Sexual Contacts, and Health Risk Behaviors Among Students in Grades 9

Constitution. According to the commerce clause, the Federal government has the right to regulate
commerce among the U.S. and foreign nations and some states. The commerce clause has led to great
controversy for many years. The commerce clause gives congress authority to legislate in many areas

of interstate commerce. The interstate commerce allows business to be conducted across the state

The Failure Of Technology At NASA
Self organization is already practiced to an extent at NASA, but its processes could be refined to
ensure the interactions add value to the project. Adoption of a Wikipedia styled application across
NASA would allow experienced managers and engineers to create a vast, Web based encyclopedia of
searchable knowledge. This would simplify the process of knowledge capture and retention. The
ability to update the system as a project progresses, rather than having to archive all of the lessons
learned after the project concludes, could prevent a failure similar to that of the Mars Observer. John
Casani, a NASA retiree who was brought back to the Mars program as a consultant, (Kiron and

However, small deviations from proven designs can lead to surprisingly unsuccessful results.
(Bonabeau, 50) The external stakeholders NASA works with on a regular basis are addressed in all of
the other managerial issues of collective intelligence. Control, expertise, engagement, policing, and
intellectual property all need to be addressed in a clear agreement between the stakeholder
organizations. Due to the nature of NASA s work, many of the external organizations they work with
are also competitors in innovation and exploration. The sensitive nature of the industry tends to make
NASA s partnerships a matter of national security, and adds an additional layer to the already complex
information sharing processes. The collective intelligence framework gives a wide range of
applications in an organization with the size and scope of NASA, but there are still some problems the
collective cannot solve. In addition to its external relationships, NASA needs to foster a sense of
urgency in developing engagement within its own departments. According to Holm, Some of my own

capturing old knowledge and lessons is just as important as developing new knowledge. This is a
cultural issue collective intelligence may not be able to solve on its own. NASA has

Environmental Changes In Lord Of The Flies
People are subject to change their way of life when their environment changes. The novel Lord of the
Flies is written by William Golding. The novel about a group of british boys who get trapped on an
island during a time over. Over the course of time they spend on the island some of the boys go into a
savage state of mind. However some had balance between savagery and civilization. Throughout the
novel Golding reveals that humans are conditioned by their environment to behave in either moral, or
immoral ways. Ralph illustrates that humans personalities can change because of the environment they
are in. When Ralph joins one of the tribes dances, his savagery takes over when, Ralph, carried away
by a sudden thick excitement, grabbed Eric s spear and jabbed at Robert with it (114). This proves that
when someone s environment changes so does their personality. It displays that even the kindest of
people can succumb to the dark side. However, when the naval officer comes to rescue the boys Ralph

the boys immediately give up Ralph s hiding spot, You re sure he meant in there . The twin moaned

Summary Of Magnus Chase And The Gods Of Asgard
For the most part, everyone has friends. Some people show more loyalty to their friends than others.
For example, Magnus Chase from the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. As Magnus
attempts to stop Loki and not die again, he relies on his friends as his rock. As a result, in Magnus
Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer , Rick Riordan uses hyperboles, irony, and the
antagonist to help show Magnus unrelenting loyalty to his friends. First of all, in the book of Magnus
Chase and the Gods of Asgard from Rick Riordan, one way Magnus loyalty is shown is through
hyperboles. For example, in the 25th chapter, it describes the battle between the dragon Mr. Alderman,
Magnus, Jack, Blitzen, and Hearthstone. In the book series, to kill a dragon affects someone s fate, and
Magnus decides that he won t put Hearthstone through affecting his own fate. It says, My insides
fluttered at the thought of killing the dragon, but there was no way I d let Hearthstone take the fall for
that. Riordan, page 221. This evidence is significant because it shows the hyperbole that shows
Magnus s allegiance to Hearthstone. The hyperbole in this statement is that his insides fluttered ; but,
in this statement, Magnus is willing to harm his own fate for Hearthstone. This shows a great amount
of loyalty, something that many people may not have been able to do. The evidence shows that
Magnus is willing to put his own skin on the line for his friend(s). In the end, Magnus shows

Universal Design For Learning And Learning Essay
The key before starting any lesson using universal design for learning is to reduce and eliminate
barriers for students learning. Using the curriculum to support the universal design for learning s three
principles.

Flexible way of presenting lesson content.
Options of how they receive content.
Flexible options for students engagement.
Choices which engage students interest
Flexible way of expression and assessment.
Choices for they demonstrate their learning.
The goal has to be clear and shared with students. It s important for student to know what are they

points and chromebooks. Students have choices to access the same information using different tools.
The materials are different but the content is the same.
Students who struggle with reading and decode text, I recommend text to speech (TTS) software this
will provide important access support, so that the readers can better focus on understanding content.
TTS software allow the students to click on the word, phrases or passage and have it read aloud. For

During the 15th century, there were five kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula, but eventually became
two by the early 16th century. Since the 12th century, Portugal had been an independent kingdom; the

their objective was to have a kingdom with only Christians. They gave the Jews four months to accept

Rome in The Age of Augustus
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, which was used in the Eastern provinces.
Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the
first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at the
Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being honoured, and
that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the first factor that
initiated the rise of Octavian.

(Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to them was
to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted their offers,
which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main elements to Octavian
s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul was a position held for 10

Limitations Of Naturalistic Observation
Naturalistic observation involves making observations of everyday events and recording those
observations in an objective manner (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Participants of a naturalistic observation
are observed in natural surroundings. The goal of naturalistic observation is to create a snapshot of the
current state of affairs. One advantage to naturalistic observation is that it provides a way to collect
data about the topic of interest (Stangor, 2016, p.40). Naturalistic observation is said to have
ecological validity. Ecological validity refers to the extent to which the research is conducted in
situations that are similar to everyday life experiences of the participants (Stangor, 2016, p.40). This
research design also allows the researcher to observe group behaviors in a specific setting. Despite its
advantages naturalistic observation also has some limitations. This design does not assess
relationships among variables (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Meaning that a cause and effect relationship
cannot be created. The results of this observation are generally limited to the group being studied.
More importantly, naturalistic observation cannot be used to test research hypotheses about which
types of group behavior are related to or caused by which other variables (Stangor, 2016, p.41).

Truss Bridges Research Paper
Bridges are important, but what makes bridges so interesting? Bridges have been around for a long
time. Bridges go all the way back to the Romans with arch bridges and to the suspension bridges in
modern day cities. There are various types of bridges, but which one can support the most weight?
Truss bridges can support weight because of their meticulously placed beams, but which truss is the
best?
The history bridges have surrounding them spans a long period of history. Romans were the first
civilization to construct long lasting bridges with their aqueducts. They made arch bridges which play
a hand in many of the designs of modern bridges. Nowadays bridges use trusses to strengthen them.
There are many types of bridges and trusses. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All are very effective and work well if built in the right conditions. The thing that separates these
bridges from one another is that they all have different points of compression and tension. Tension is
two forces of opposition that pull away from each other to keep it from being pulled together. If you
imagine a rope in a game of tug of war, the rope has a lot of tension because it is being pulled apart,
but the opposing force inside of the rope is trying to keep it together. The same can be applied to a
bridge truss because the tension truss is opposing the compression truss by pulling the bridge apart.
Tension also pulls the platform of the bridge by stretching it to keep the bridge from collapsing.
Compression is two forces in opposition that push an object together to try to compress it. If you think
of someone standing on a soda can, the soda can tries to resist being squished, but the weight of the
person standing on the can still squashes it. This example can also pertain to the truss on a bridge. A
compression truss opposes the tension truss by pulling the bridge together. Compression is also placed
on the top of a truss and in its bases. The compression at the top of the bridge counteracts with the
tension of the platform and balances out each force. The compression in its bases is from the weight of
the platform and trusses. Bridge engineers calculate the tension and

The Effect of Promotion and Market Share Enhancement on...
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The financial services industry has undergone substantial changes from regulatory, technological,
cultural and economical forces, among others. One of the most serious results of these changes is the
need for financial service companies to be marketing oriented. Marketing oriented companies places
emphasis on their clients and customers needs and wants, and determines how these needs and wants
can be beneficially served. A necessary component of marketing orientation is a strong programme for
developing products (services).
Marketing activities and markets are ever changing, but the fundamental philosophy of marketing is

Moreso, where there is absence of marketing, the attendant negative effect of this on the profitability
and growth cannot be over emphasized. After all, it is the good performance (profitability and growth)
that can guarantee the sustainability of the organization in relation with its corporate goals and

Essay on Film Trailer Portfolio
Film Trailer Portfolio
When the task of creating a film trailer was first put to us, I had several ideas for the movie s context.
The first was of a movie in the action genre that dealt with revenge, whilst the other two were in the
horror genre. The horror genre appealed to me more, as a low budget film can still have the desired
effect by use of different filming techniques, and I wanted to depend more on a psychological aspect.
My first idea was to do a film about a poltergeist. I had watched several films such as Poltergeist , but
wanted to create a film that relied less on visual effects, something that leant towards the style of
Albert Hitchcock, who is still seen today as the Master of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I purchased the Exorcist DVD, which featured a making of documentary. Here I learned of Friedkin s
strict attention to detail, and also uncovered some of his secrets that made the film so effective. The
film features two main techniques throughout the film that I immediately thought about adding to my
own film, those being the use of lighting and sound. The film moves from very bright light scenes,
such as the films opening in the Middle East, to the darkness of Georgetown (the films setting), or
from the clean and well lit living room of the house, to the black and gloomy mist of the girl s
bedroom. Why?
The sound was used similarly, from eerily quiet to sudden loudness, one scene that uses this is the
sharp cut from the Priest s gentle dream of his mother, to the piercing scream of the little girl. Why
The use of restful music as the main soundtrack in The Exorcist added to the loud and quiet technique
Friedkin used, to create the sense that everything is calm. I myself began my trailer using this
technique, with some gentle music, so that when things begin to go wrong, the impact is more
substantial.
The voice that was created for the demon in this film was dubbed in synch after the scenes had been
shot. I used this technique to dub in the voice of the priest in my trailer, the line I dare not say was

Beowulf s Heroic Qualities
In Beowulf , the main character Beowulf, throughout the epic poem is shown as a true hero who has
all the qualities and what it takes to protect the land. Even though there are some moments in Beowulf
that try to make it seem like he is not a true hero, he proves himself with three major battles. Beowulf
illustrates his heroic qualities through three major battles: his battle with Grendel, his battle with
Grendel s mother, and his battle with the dragon.
In the battle with the horrendous monster, Grendel, Beowulf had a feast in the mead hall and stayed
the night there to wait for Grendel to attack the location like he has many times before. Grendel had
vicious raids and ravaged that the Danes could not make peace with him or stop his gruesome ... Show

and rip their life away from them and feed off of their lifeless bodies but that night would be much

him and left him all eaten up. Grendel then went towards Beowulf next with claws open, ready to

and harder then anything Grendel has ever dealt with. Beowulf was overpowering Grendel, and
Grendel s arm was ripped off by Beowulf s great strength and hold on Grendel. Grendel screams could

Collapse, By Jared Diamond
COLLAPSE by Jared Diamond attempts to answer the question, What caused some of the great
civilizations of the past to collapse into ruin, and what can we learn from their fates?
This book is divided into four main sections, and I ll be talking about the most important sections and
the most important chapters in it.
The first section starts off with Diamond going in to the present in the United States. He starts off with
the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. While it seems untouched, with endless splendor, looks are
deceiving. Diamond shows Montana as the model of our times: healthy on the surface, but at the
moment terminally ill below. As he writes on page 32:

Covering up to 500,000 square miles, these were extremely fertile lands, watered by the Tigris and
Euphrates rivers. Long, long ago, the area was so populated and so prosperous that it has been
nicknamed the Cradle of Civilization. But it collapsed. Due to thousands of years of irrigation,
subsequent salination, and displacement of forest with agriculture; the area now is the cradle of misery
and hostility. It is now part of the deserts and arid lands of Israel, Lebanon, Jordon, Syria, Iraq, and
southeastern Turkey.
Twilight at Easter is similar to the Fertile Crescent. One reason Diamond selected this island is
because, it proves to be the closest approximation that we have to an ecological disaster unfolding in
complete isolation. This, is an important aspect for researchers because it means that outside factors,
which so often make the difference, were not influential in the demise. The reasons for collapse could
only come from within the isolated system of Easter Island.
I found this chapter absolutely fascinating. For me the real insights were the role of the political
system in the building of the giant stone statues that became Easter Island s biggest mystery when it
was discovered in 1722. There were hundreds of erect statues with no one there. Who built them? As
Diamond explains, it was the dozen clans that controlled the island who built them. The clans
competed peacefully by seeking to outdo each other in building

Essay on Toni Morrison s Beloved
Symbolism in Beloved
In the novel Beloved, the author, Toni Morrison, attempts to promote a variety of different themes and
ideas by symbolizing them in minor events and situations. This symbolism is evident throughout the
entire novel and is very crucial to the understanding and analyzing of the text. A good example of this
is the ice skating scene. Morrison uses this scene to represent the slow, but consistent, deterioration of
the family living in 124 and to foreshadow the ultimate demise of the family unit. Morrison writes
repeatedly, Nobody saw them falling, yet in all reality they were falling, and falling fast (Morrison
174). There are a number of details, including the setting, Sethe s emotions, the choice of ... Show

Her mind is clouded with emotions and rememories. But in the ice skating scene this appears to
change as Morrison writes, Anybody feeling sorry for [Sethe], anybody wandering by to peep in and
see how she was getting on would discover that the woman... was sailing happily on a frozen lake
(Morrison 174). Sethe appeared to be happy once again. At one point, Sethe takes on the qualities of
some kind of wild animal, having four legs. After falling on the ice Sethe rose to her hands and knees,
laughter still shaking her chest, making her eyes wet. She stayed that way for a while, on all fours
(Morrison 175). Paul D also refers to her as being an animal and having four legs later in the novel. It
is also interesting that Morrison writes, Sethe couldn t skate a lick... (Morrison 174) Sethe did not
know how to skate, just like she did not know how to be a parent. This inability later leads to the
downfall of the family.
Morrison takes great detail in describing which shoes each member of the family wears while ice
skating. Sethe says, We ll take turns. Two skates on one; one skate on one; and shoe slide for the other
(Morrison 174). Morrison writes, Beloved wore the pair (Morrison 174). Beloved was given the two
best skates because she was the least stable of the three. She needed the most attention, the most help

Christianity And Paganism In Beowulf
The ideas of Christianity and paganism are not usually ones that collide. Nonetheless, the epic poem
Beowulf has several references to them both. This can largely be explained by analyzing the people
and culture of the period. While the events of the poem take place in modern day Scandinavia, the
author and audience are assumed to be residents of England. It was written in approximately 700 A.D.,
during the Anglo Saxon period. By this time, the Anglo Saxons were already largely converted to
Christianity, but there were still echoes of paganism in their society and beliefs. This is presumed to be
one of the reasons why Beowulf incorporates this unlikely mix of religions. Although Christianity and
paganism are generally thought to have few similarities, Beowulf s unknown author utilizes Christian
symbolism, allusions to paganism, and interaction between the two to make Beowulf representative of
the period in which it was written.
The author of Beowulf is overwhelmingly assumed to be a Christian monk. As a result, the Christian
references in the poem are plain to see. The first of these references comes near the beginning of the
poem. In lines 6 10, the making of the earth is depicted: ...recalling/ The Almighty making the earth,
shaping/ These beautiful plains marked off by oceans,/ Then proudly setting the sun and moon/ To
glow across the land and light it... This description mirrors a loose adaptation of God s creation of the
world in the first chapter of Genesis, and is

The Movie Let The Right One
Let the Right One In, is a wonderful film that captures positive qualities from Carmilla and achieves
what Twilight so desperately attempts. In many ways this film is an adaptation of Carmilla,
highlighting the friendship between a vampire and younger child. In both stories, the human struggles
internally with their strong feelings towards the vampire, and their moral obligated to hate them. In
both cases, the protagonist struggles with a strong attraction to the vampire coupled with a moral
repulsion to the vampire s nature and behavior (Ridenhour). In comparison with Twilight, Let the
Right One In tells a story of love with no barriers. Prefers to help rather than hurt the person who is
suppose to be their prey (Tyree). In both stories, the vampires repeatedly push the human away, only
to grow a stronger attraction. Though the human knows or at least has a hunch their new friend is not
human, this does not sway their attraction. The difference is, in Twilight, Edward s secret is that he is a
vampire, in Let the Right One In, Eli s secret is not that he is vampire, but that he is a boy. This is
subtlety shown in the movie when Eli s castration is briefly shown. In the book it is told, Eli was
turned (into a vampire) in the 18th century by a vampire who castrated him and drank the blood from
the wound (Ridenhour). In all three stories, there is a tale told of complete loneliness, whether it s

In the film, upon Anne s arrival, Marilla puts her through a trial period before she officially decides to

Gilberts relationship was also developed differently in the film. In the novel, it was a long standing

I didn t think you and Gilbert Blythe were such good friends... We haven t been we ve been good
enemies. But we have decided that it will be much more sensible to be good friends... (306). However,
the film romanticized their relationship through their interactions with one another. For instance,

and compliments her friend Diana to try to make her jealous, which works. This romantic side of Anne
is not seen in the novel and therefore, it is out of her

This was the only theory that could make sense to me when considering all the suspects, especially
John and Patsy Ramsey. It was obvious to me that they were involved but the only way that things

it said that JonBenet would be
beheaded if they told the police about the ransom or anyone else and that they were watching. Patsy
immediately called the police and friends after reading the note, completely ignoring the warning. She
obviously wasn t worried about this threat at all and the reason why is because she knew there wasn t

Patsy. Not to mention that the paper and pen and a rough draft of the note were found in their home. If
someone was in a rush when kidnapping a child they would have a pre written note and definitly
would not take the time to write more than one draft of a note. Another point to be made is that the

Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The life and ministry of Jesus is usually defined as the moment where God intervened in human
history for a special purpose. This intervention occurred so humanity s relationship could be restored
to the way it was originally intended to be. Sin entered the world through the disobedience of the first
humans beings created. The relationship between God and humanity was marred and could only be
restored through the atonement of Jesus Christ. A surface look of Jesus life would produce an
overview such as this. Jesus mission on earth was to redeem humanity but there are many aspects of
His ministry that can be understood at a deeper level. The events which transpired in His ministry
could not be attributed to the man Jesus but to the divine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scripture recorded that Jesus claimed many different times that He performed miracles through the
Spirit of God including texts such as Mt. 12:28. Observing the ministry of Jesus from the Spirit
Christological perspective does not transform the paradigm of Jesus ministry, rather it shifts the source
of Jesus power. Presenting the comparison between His divine nature and the Holy Spirit should not
be a focused issue rather it should promote insight to the interworking of Jesus ministry.
The power of the Spirit in Jesus should be an example of how believers should interact with the Spirit.
As Jesus told His disciples of the helper He would send to them (Jn 15:26), believers today have the
privilege to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as well. The disciples witnessed the miracles which
Jesus performed and from this example they were able to have powerful ministries as well. Jesus
ministry consisted of redeeming humanity from sin, performing miracles full of the Spirit and making
available the power of the Spirit. His mission did not stop at establishing the Kingdom on earth, the
great commission provides guidance to believers with what He wants for the Kingdom. The work of
the Holy Spirit in Jesus ministry did not start at the baptism at the Jordan rather it started much earlier
than His three years with the disciples.

The phrase he put in title of the story A Very Old Man remind me the religion and in fact, Christianity
because of the author s location and society that he lived in. García Márquez wants to describe a world
which every people use religion to make money and reach the higher level of society to make life
easier to spend. He wants to throw everyone s attention that catholic churches in South America are
not in a good path. And priests want to make people their

What Does It Mean To Me Essay
Can your life be described with abstract ideas of everyday items? I can use objects and symbols to
represent me as person and my experiences throughout my life. With the description for three items I
can show you how i am a well rounded person and get to know a little about me to. The contents of
my Me bag include items such as: an apple, a flag, and a folder. I with explain to you how these
seemingly bland items represent me as a well rounded individual. One of the many items is an apple, a
symbol of health. Apples have been a used for decades in metaphors, nursery rhymes and famous
quotes as the image of health, such as an apple a day keeps the doctor away . The apple has many
nutritious values like regulating blood pressure and glucose levels , described in an article on
WHFoods (The World s Healthiest Foods, 1). I am a healthy person and I try to stay ... Show more

For me, the flag more specifically the flag of North Carolina because I was born and raised here is
considered home . On the flag are 2 dates, the first is May 20th, 1775, which is the Mecklenburg
Declaration of Independence, the second is April 12th, 1776, the date of the Halifax Resolve,
documents that some believe put North Carolina on the forefront of the American Independence
Movement (Wikipedia, 3). With North Carolina s rich history of it s involvement in wars, and its more
memorable feats like being first in flight, and how it is a piedmont region that touches both the ocean
and the Great Smokey Mountains, it is by far my Favorite state. Whenever I come home from a long
day at school and sit down on my couch to write my ridiculously strenuous English essay, and I look
up and see my North Carolina flag hanging over my bed and i just smile because I know i m safe. You
never hear anything bad about North Carolina, no riots or protests, it is a peaceful state, and i m glad

Some Facts and My Opinion of High Fructose Corn Syrup
I hope all is well with you. Thank you for asking my opinion about high fructose corn syrup. Rest
assure I do not want you to be concerned, I will try to explain it as much as I can. Let me start by
explaining to you what high fructose syrup means in comparison to regular sugar. HFCS is composed
of a mix of glucose and fructose (Beil). This same chemical components are also found in regular
table sugar. Table sugar also has another name called sucrose. It has a linear ring structure with three
to seven carbon atoms (Phelan 854). To make it easier on you to understand, we eat sugar it breaks
down in our stomach as glucose and fructose (Busken 112 113). If the breakdown of HFCS and sugar
is compared you will find that HFCS gives the better opportunity of using in food (Busken 112 113).
The digestion of sugar is 50/50, while the breakdown of HFCS is 42% fructose and 55% glucose
(Busken 112 113). The remaining 3% are chains of saccharides (Busken 112 113). Now looking into
the graph that you sent me I do not think that high fructose corn syrup is the main cause of obesity.
Through my understanding of the readings I have read that interacting with a substance does not
necessarily mean that it is the cause of it. Throughout the years Americans have developed a bigger
appetite and specifically a sweet tooth (Beil). The graph demonstrates that between 1975 2000 the
high fructose corn syrup intake rose frequently. In between the same years, obesity has rise and fallen

My Experience On The Adventure Of My Life
There I was doing 65 mph, I was behind my dad going straight when we came to a smooth curve I
pulled in my brake a tad bit letting off the gas dropping down to about 50mph when I went off the
edge and at that moment fear took over me not knowing if I was going to get hurt or go on the
adventure of a lifetime! There I was running home happier than I ever was before it was going to be
the first day got to go on a snowmobile trip! I burst thru the front door of my house ran up to my
bedroom and got straight to packing packed a backpack with my cloths and a dophile bag with my
brand new helmet, gloves, jacket and snowpants carried my bags downstairs and sat them in the
mound of other bags from my brother and dad. I helped my dad and brother carry all our stuff outside
setting it into my dad s truck we then backed up my dad s truck to our snowmobile trailer where we
had already had 3 snowmobiles loaded up we hooked up and pulled it to the front of our house. We
went inside and said goodbye to my mom and grabbed the final stuff we needed. Afterwards we got in
the truck it was right around 7:30pm , there was little to no snow on the ground when we left kinda
sad it being january at the time and we couldn t even walk in 1 inch of snow at our house. after we left
we, not even 20 minutes away had fallen asleep. I remember waking up going down a road pulling up
to a gas station at around 10:00pm i looked out the window and saw mounds of snow in the parking
lot, also snow falling

Salvador Dali Face Of War Essay
Salvador Dali was a Spanish artist who drew some of the most gorgeous yet obscure paintings in the
world today. The nuances of his work express such great ideas that it is believed one could never
perfectly analyze one of his works of art. Sticking to this trend, The Face of War is a somewhat ugly
landscape painting with a moving meaning behind every stroke. The desert set painting features a
snake inundated, skull like face which was drawn to personify everything that war is. The subtleties in
the picture help describe this personification further, as it fleshes out the idea that war is an atrocious
and terrifying occurrence that leaves sheer agony in the wake of everything it touches. Those tortured
by such an event are left with permanent scars, whether it be in the form of the loss of their home,
morals, or even life. The backdrop for the work is a desolate desert which seems to extend completely
empty all the way until it meets the horizon. In the forefront of the image, a gaunt face which could
quickly be mistake for a skull extends from the top to the bottom of the canvas with a morbidly
distraught expression overcoming it. In the orifices where there should be eyes and a mouth, another
head appears in each, with this repeating for the openings of that face and so on until what seems to be
infinity. While each visage seems to resemble the last, it is notable that as they getter smaller and
smaller (sinking deeper into the picture), the faces seem to become more

Background of the study The unemployment rate measures the percentage of the total work force that
is unemployed and actively seeking employment during the previous month. Unemployment is termed
as a major health of the economy and every country tries to reduce unemployment rate for sustainable
growth. It is referred as the number of unemployed workers divided by the total civilian labour force.
Every economy tries to ensure full employment in the country but there is the existence of natural rate
of unemployment though nation tries hard to obtain full employment in the country. Australia is one of
the richest countries in the world. It is one of the developed countries whose unemployment rate is
above 5 percent. Perkins and Angley (2003) asserted that the increasing impact of globalization,

In comparison to US, Australia s structural unemployment rate is higher (Statista, 2018) that gives
some ground for Australia to lower the unemployment rate from the nation (Australian Government
Budget, 2004 05). Before the Second World War, the unemployment rate of Australia was only around
two percent. Due to increase in working age population in Australia, along with increase in
employment, unemployment rate also increases. Rapid growth in economy, trained workers, educated
and skilled workers, expansion of business in country will lead to lower the unemployment rate.
Carvalho (2015) claimed that every year number of young Australians enter the labour market and
they get trouble while searching for the job due to lack of experience, low skill, skill mismatch.
Unemployment is not problem of Australia only rather it has become the global issue. Australia has
been able to lower its unemployment rate in recent five years. The study explains the unemployment
rate in Australia, reasons of unemployment, existence of youth unemployment, scenario of west and

The Outdoor Gear Industry Has Steadily Over The Last Five...
Overview
The outdoor gear industry has been growing steadily over the last five to ten years. With research
increasingly showing the benefits of staying active and the detrimental effects of staying idle, people
in all age groups are increasingly turning to outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping and
even climbing. This industry is becoming increasingly competitive and has a habit of assimilating
smaller firms into larger ones. The top 4 companies own 76.5% of the market share, making this an
Oligopoly where a few firms control most of the market.
There are a few keys that tend to make companies successful. Knowledge of the product tends to be a
major factor in the success of these firms since people who are using their products are often putting
their lives at risk if the product breaks down. Knowing the right gear when people ask questions and
knowing exactly how the gear needs to work when designing a new piece is a key to building
customer loyalty and trust. The ability to alter your output of goods and services also plays into the
success of these firms. Companies need to be able to adjust, maybe selling more rain gear during a
rainy season or even seasonally adjusting to putting out skis and sleds rather than kayaks during the
winter. These firms also tend to specialize, appealing to niche markets is a good way to keep sales up
at least in one sector.
Current Competition
The outdoor industry is highly competitive with a lot of marketing going on constantly

The Canadian Health Care System Essay
According to an overview of Canadian poll surveying public opinion on their universal health care
system, 88% of Canadians reported their value for a strong, national, and publically funded health
system (Mendelsohn, 2002). Canada is one of the four nations that provide their populations with
access to medical services through their universal health care system of 1984 (Bodenheimer
Grumbach, 2008). The Canadian health care system is unique in that it prohibits the private health
insurance coverage for the fundamental services that are provided by the Canada Health Act; private
insurance can be used as a supplement for services that are either partially covered or not covered
under the universal health insurance (Steinbrook, 2006). Conversely, in the American health care
system there isn t a universal health coverage for the nation, but rather four different means of paying
for health care which includes patient paying out of pocket for individual payments, individual private
insurance, employment based health insurance, and governmental supporting funding (Bodenheimer
Grumbach, 2008).
The Canadian government financed health system is a public, single payer health care system that is
funded partially by federal government and the rest is funded by provincial taxes such as income
taxes, payroll taxes, and sales taxes (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2008). Federal taxes had accounted for
50% of financing for health care services during the 1970s; however, this had decreased to

  • 2. Carrie By Stephen King Essay Stephen king is a famous American author who is best known for his horror novels. Stephen king has written many books including notable titles ones like it or The shining . Carrie while being one of Stephen king s earlier work, still provides for an entertaining read. The book presents the reader with a quick and easy read of a coming of age story with King s signature gruesome twist. While some of Stephen king s work is incredibly long and challenging to read, Carrie in contrast is much shorter and easier to finish and comprehend. The small things King does such as writing thoughts and inner monologue in parenthesis like when he writes Someone in the background (perhaps Hargensen again, Sue couldn t tell in the jungle of echoes) was yelling... make the text clear, concise, and consistent. ... There have been many transitions in the media consumption process. The history of media is a vast subject to study on. There are televisions, radio, cinema, theater, social media channels like YouTube, Instagram etc. that are the media channels to keep the audience engaged. However, new technology based media platforms are dwelled on the base of old technologies that were the mainstream media in older times. The audience that consumes the media plays a vital role in influencing the media. Among all these media platforms, talking about the Cinema, there has been a huge change in the audiences consuming this medium of entertainment. I am notably interested in the ways that however individuals developed bound ritual uses of cinema. My intention is to research practices, bound habits and behaviors of cinema going audience. The cinema in 20th century has been producing as well as disseminating mass popular culture. The cinema in 20th century is usually overlooked in number of other ways. • 6. Argumentative Essay On Technology And Technology Whether you are a geek, buying the latest smartphone, game console, and latest Apple products or you are just the minimalist who only has the necessary smart devices like your phone and maybe a laptop, it is undeniable that technology is making its way into every nook and cranny of modern society. Owning your own car was treated as a way to be free back in the eighties, but now owning a car is starting to become a thing of the past as companies such as UBER and Lyft are replacing taxies but making a new form of public transportation constantly available almost everywhere around the world. Even though technology has basically taken over every aspect of our lives does not mean that every person has embraced it with open arms. These days we still have an ongoing debate about whether smart devices and the internet are helping or hurting society as a whole or not. Enthusiasts on this topic tend to look at a more optimistic view on this new technological age expressing how they think that robots and artificial intelligence will change our world for the better both Kevin Kelly s Better than Human , Clive Thompson s Smarter than You Think , as well as Brooke Gladstone and Josh Neufeld s The Influencing Machines explore. On the other hand, skeptics tend to write about how these new technologies are tainting our own capabilities and making us more dependent rather than relying on our own skills, says Nicholas Carr in his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? . Although technology has changed many aspects of our lives we should still pay attention to how it has benefitted many aspects of our daily lives. One of the main concerns that people have in accordance to new technological advances is how it affects our brains and how we think. Although I tend to be an enthusiast when it comes to new cutting edge hardware or software I still agree with Carr on the fact that technology may not be this great learning tool with no downsides that everyone hypes it up to be. In fact, Carr had one thing that really struck me when he talked about how the style of reading promoted by the Net, a style that puts efficiency and immediacy above all else, may be weakening our capacity for [deep reading] (319). • 7. Females Mental Rotation Study Background One theory developed by psychologists working within the biological approach is the idea that males have better spatial ability than females. Spatial ability is the ability to mentally manipulate 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional figures. One way in which spatial ability can be operationalised is in the form of mental rotation test. A mental rotation test requires participants to identify rotated versions of a target stimulus. Mental rotation usually takes place in the right cerebral hemisphere, in the areas where perception also occurs. Mental rotation can be separated into the following cognitive stages (Johnson 1990): 1) Create a mental image of an object 2) Rotate the object mentally until a comparison can be made 3) Make the ... The study also enabled the researchers to perfect the wording of the standardised instructions. For the main study 10 male participants sat at separate desks in the computer room with the mental rotation programme loaded. Participants read and signed a consent form. The experimenter then read from a standardised set of instructions explaining the procedure and giving permission for participants to begin the 10 mental rotation trails when they were ready. Controversia Conversion Therapy Research Paper Conversion therapy goes by many names, such as reparative therapy, Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE), and ex gay therapy, but all are geared towards the same end result: to eradicate homosexuality as a whole, even if it may be completely natural to the individual. Despite the common belief, homosexuality is not an illness. In fact, it was declassified as a mental illness from the ICD 10 in 1973. However, there are several organizations dedicated to the very purpose of treating it as one. While it may seem like an antiquated topic, the issue is still being debated and even encouraged to this day, despite its lacking ethical standing. The ability to update the system as a project progresses, rather than having to archive all of the lessons learned after the project concludes, could prevent a failure similar to that of the Mars Observer. As a result, in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer , Rick Riordan uses hyperboles, irony, and the antagonist to help show Magnus unrelenting loyalty to his friends. First of all, in the book of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard from Rick Riordan, one way Magnus loyalty is shown is through hyperboles. For example, in the 25th chapter, it describes the battle between the dragon Mr. Alderman, Magnus, Jack, Blitzen, and Hearthstone. In the book series, to kill a dragon affects someone s fate, and Magnus decides that he won t put Hearthstone through affecting his own fate. It says, My insides fluttered at the thought of killing the dragon, but there was no way I d let Hearthstone take the fall for that. Riordan, page 221. This evidence is significant because it shows the hyperbole that shows Magnus s allegiance to Hearthstone. The hyperbole in this statement is that his insides fluttered ; but, in this statement, Magnus is willing to harm his own fate for Hearthstone. This shows a great amount of loyalty, something that many people may not have been able to do. The evidence shows that Magnus is willing to put his own skin on the line for his friend(s). Proconsul was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. Participants of a naturalistic observation are observed in natural surroundings. The goal of naturalistic observation is to create a snapshot of the current state of affairs. One advantage to naturalistic observation is that it provides a way to collect data about the topic of interest (Stangor, 2016, p.40). Naturalistic observation is said to have ecological validity. Ecological validity refers to the extent to which the research is conducted in situations that are similar to everyday life experiences of the participants (Stangor, 2016, p.40). This research design also allows the researcher to observe group behaviors in a specific setting. Despite its advantages naturalistic observation also has some limitations. This design does not assess relationships among variables (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Meaning that a cause and effect relationship cannot be created. The results of this observation are generally limited to the group being studied. More importantly, naturalistic observation cannot be used to test research hypotheses about which types of group behavior are related to or caused by which other variables (Stangor, 2016, p.41). Truss bridges can support weight because of their meticulously placed beams, but which truss is the best? The history bridges have surrounding them spans a long period of history. All are very effective and work well if built in the right conditions. The thing that separates these bridges from one another is that they all have different points of compression and tension. Tension is two forces of opposition that pull away from each other to keep it from being pulled together. If you imagine a rope in a game of tug of war, the rope has a lot of tension because it is being pulled apart, but the opposing force inside of the rope is trying to keep it together. The same can be applied to a bridge truss because the tension truss is opposing the compression truss by pulling the bridge apart. Tension also pulls the platform of the bridge by stretching it to keep the bridge from collapsing. Compression is two forces in opposition that push an object together to try to compress it. If you think of someone standing on a soda can, the soda can tries to resist being squished, but the weight of the person standing on the can still squashes it. This example can also pertain to the truss on a bridge. A compression truss opposes the tension truss by pulling the bridge together. Compression is also placed on the top of a truss and in its bases. The compression at the top of the bridge counteracts with the tension of the platform and balances out each force. The compression in its bases is from the weight of the platform and trusses. Bridge engineers calculate the tension and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first was of a movie in the action genre that dealt with revenge, whilst the other two were in the horror genre. The horror genre appealed to me more, as a low budget film can still have the desired effect by use of different filming techniques, and I wanted to depend more on a psychological aspect. Here I learned of Friedkin s strict attention to detail, and also uncovered some of his secrets that made the film so effective. The film features two main techniques throughout the film that I immediately thought about adding to my own film, those being the use of lighting and sound. The film moves from very bright light scenes, such as the films opening in the Middle East, to the darkness of Georgetown (the films setting), or from the clean and well lit living room of the house, to the black and gloomy mist of the girl s bedroom. Why? The sound was used similarly, from eerily quiet to sudden loudness, one scene that uses this is the sharp cut from the Priest s gentle dream of his mother, to the piercing scream of the little girl. Why The use of restful music as the main soundtrack in The Exorcist added to the loud and quiet technique Friedkin used, to create the sense that everything is calm. I myself began my trailer using this technique, with some gentle music, so that when things begin to go wrong, the impact is more substantial. It is now part of the deserts and arid lands of Israel, Lebanon, Jordon, Syria, Iraq, and southeastern Turkey. Twilight at Easter is similar to the Fertile Crescent. One reason Diamond selected this island is because, it proves to be the closest approximation that we have to an ecological disaster unfolding in complete isolation. This, is an important aspect for researchers because it means that outside factors, which so often make the difference, were not influential in the demise. The reasons for collapse could only come from within the isolated system of Easter Island. I found this chapter absolutely fascinating. For me the real insights were the role of the political system in the building of the giant stone statues that became Easter Island s biggest mystery when it was discovered in 1722. Essay on Toni Morrison s Beloved Symbolism in Beloved In the novel Beloved, the author, Toni Morrison, attempts to promote a variety of different themes and ideas by symbolizing them in minor events and situations. This symbolism is evident throughout the entire novel and is very crucial to the understanding and analyzing of the text. A good example of this is the ice skating scene. Morrison uses this scene to represent the slow, but consistent, deterioration of the family living in 124 and to foreshadow the ultimate demise of the family unit. • 30. Christianity And Paganism In Beowulf The ideas of Christianity and paganism are not usually ones that collide. Nonetheless, the epic poem Beowulf has several references to them both. This can largely be explained by analyzing the people and culture of the period. While the events of the poem take place in modern day Scandinavia, the author and audience are assumed to be residents of England. It was written in approximately 700 A.D., during the Anglo Saxon period. By this time, the Anglo Saxons were already largely converted to Christianity, but there were still echoes of paganism in their society and beliefs. This is presumed to be one of the reasons why Beowulf incorporates this unlikely mix of religions. Although Christianity and paganism are generally thought to have few similarities, Beowulf s unknown author utilizes Christian symbolism, allusions to paganism, and interaction between the two to make Beowulf representative of the period in which it was written. The author of Beowulf is overwhelmingly assumed to be a Christian monk. As a result, the Christian references in the poem are plain to see. The first of these references comes near the beginning of the poem. In lines 6 10, the making of the earth is depicted: ...recalling/ The Almighty making the earth, shaping/ These beautiful plains marked off by oceans,/ Then proudly setting the sun and moon/ To glow across the land and light it... In many ways this film is an adaptation of Carmilla, highlighting the friendship between a vampire and younger child. In both stories, the human struggles internally with their strong feelings towards the vampire, and their moral obligated to hate them. In both cases, the protagonist struggles with a strong attraction to the vampire coupled with a moral repulsion to the vampire s nature and behavior (Ridenhour). In comparison with Twilight, Let the Right One In tells a story of love with no barriers. Prefers to help rather than hurt the person who is suppose to be their prey (Tyree). • 39. Baptism of the Holy Spirit The life and ministry of Jesus is usually defined as the moment where God intervened in human history for a special purpose. This intervention occurred so humanity s relationship could be restored to the way it was originally intended to be. Sin entered the world through the disobedience of the first humans beings created. The relationship between God and humanity was marred and could only be restored through the atonement of Jesus Christ. A surface look of Jesus life would produce an overview such as this. Jesus mission on earth was to redeem humanity but there are many aspects of His ministry that can be understood at a deeper level. The events which transpired in His ministry could not be attributed to the man Jesus but to the divine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scripture recorded that Jesus claimed many different times that He performed miracles through the Spirit of God including texts such as Mt. 12:28. Observing the ministry of Jesus from the Spirit Christological perspective does not transform the paradigm of Jesus ministry, rather it shifts the source of Jesus power. Presenting the comparison between His divine nature and the Holy Spirit should not be a focused issue rather it should promote insight to the interworking of Jesus ministry. The power of the Spirit in Jesus should be an example of how believers should interact with the Spirit. As Jesus told His disciples of the helper He would send to them (Jn 15:26), believers today have the privilege to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as well. The disciples witnessed the miracles which Jesus performed and from this example they were able to have powerful ministries as well. Jesus ministry consisted of redeeming humanity from sin, performing miracles full of the Spirit and making available the power of the Spirit. His mission did not stop at establishing the Kingdom on earth, the great commission provides guidance to believers with what He wants for the Kingdom. The work of the Holy Spirit in Jesus ministry did not start at the baptism at the Jordan rather it started much earlier than His three years with the disciples. There are a few ... With North Carolina s rich history of it s involvement in wars, and its more memorable feats like being first in flight, and how it is a piedmont region that touches both the ocean and the Great Smokey Mountains, it is by far my Favorite state. • 42. Some Facts and My Opinion of High Fructose Corn Syrup I hope all is well with you. Thank you for asking my opinion about high fructose corn syrup. Rest assure I do not want you to be concerned, I will try to explain it as much as I can. Let me start by explaining to you what high fructose syrup means in comparison to regular sugar. HFCS is composed of a mix of glucose and fructose (Beil). This same chemical components are also found in regular table sugar. Table sugar also has another name called sucrose. It has a linear ring structure with three to seven carbon atoms (Phelan 854). To make it easier on you to understand, we eat sugar it breaks down in our stomach as glucose and fructose (Busken 112 113). If the breakdown of HFCS and sugar is compared you will find that HFCS gives the better opportunity of using in food (Busken 112 113). The digestion of sugar is 50/50, while the breakdown of HFCS is 42% fructose and 55% glucose (Busken 112 113). The remaining 3% are chains of saccharides (Busken 112 113). Now looking into the graph that you sent me I do not think that high fructose corn syrup is the main cause of obesity. Through my understanding of the readings I have read that interacting with a substance does not necessarily mean that it is the cause of it. Throughout the years Americans have developed a bigger appetite and specifically a sweet tooth (Beil). The graph demonstrates that between 1975 2000 the high fructose corn syrup intake rose frequently. In between the same years, obesity has rise and fallen multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Salvador Dali Face Of War Essay Salvador Dali was a Spanish artist who drew some of the most gorgeous yet obscure paintings in the world today. The nuances of his work express such great ideas that it is believed one could never perfectly analyze one of his works of art. Sticking to this trend, The Face of War is a somewhat ugly landscape painting with a moving meaning behind every stroke. The desert set painting features a snake inundated, skull like face which was drawn to personify everything that war is. The subtleties in the picture help describe this personification further, as it fleshes out the idea that war is an atrocious and terrifying occurrence that leaves sheer agony in the wake of everything it touches. Those tortured by such an event are left with permanent scars, whether it be in the form of the loss of their home, morals, or even life. The backdrop for the work is a desolate desert which seems to extend completely empty all the way until it meets the horizon. In the forefront of the image, a gaunt face which could quickly be mistake for a skull extends from the top to the bottom of the canvas with a morbidly distraught expression overcoming it. In the orifices where there should be eyes and a mouth, another head appears in each, with this repeating for the openings of that face and so on until what seems to be infinity. While each visage seems to resemble the last, it is notable that as they getter smaller and smaller (sinking deeper into the picture), the faces seem to become more ... With research increasingly showing the benefits of staying active and the detrimental effects of staying idle, people in all age groups are increasingly turning to outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping and even climbing. This industry is becoming increasingly competitive and has a habit of assimilating smaller firms into larger ones. The top 4 companies own 76.5% of the market share, making this an Oligopoly where a few firms control most of the market. There are a few keys that tend to make companies successful. Knowledge of the product tends to be a major factor in the success of these firms since people who are using their products are often putting their lives at risk if the product breaks down. Knowing the right gear when people ask questions and knowing exactly how the gear needs to work when designing a new piece is a key to building customer loyalty and trust. The ability to alter your output of goods and services also plays into the success of these firms. Companies need to be able to adjust, maybe selling more rain gear during a rainy season or even seasonally adjusting to putting out skis and sleds rather than kayaks during the winter. These firms also tend to specialize, appealing to niche markets is a good way to keep sales up at least in one sector. • 47. The Canadian Health Care System Essay According to an overview of Canadian poll surveying public opinion on their universal health care system, 88% of Canadians reported their value for a strong, national, and publically funded health system (Mendelsohn, 2002). Canada is one of the four nations that provide their populations with access to medical services through their universal health care system of 1984 (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2008). The Canadian health care system is unique in that it prohibits the private health insurance coverage for the fundamental services that are provided by the Canada Health Act; private insurance can be used as a supplement for services that are either partially covered or not covered under the universal health insurance (Steinbrook, 2006). Conversely, in the American health care system there isn t a universal health coverage for the nation, but rather four different means of paying for health care which includes patient paying out of pocket for individual payments, individual private insurance, employment based health insurance, and governmental supporting funding (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2008). The Canadian government financed health system is a public, single payer health care system that is funded partially by federal government and the rest is funded by provincial taxes such as income taxes, payroll taxes, and sales taxes (Bodenheimer Grumbach, 2008). Federal taxes had accounted for 50% of financing for health care services during the 1970s; however, this had decreased to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
