Argumentative Essay About Capital Punishment
1. Argumentative Essay About Capital
Punishment
Crafting an argumentative essay about capital punishment is indeed a challenging task that
demands a careful balance of reason, evidence, and ethical considerations. The complexity arises
not just from the need to present a coherent argument, but also from the inherent emotional and
moral dimensions associated with the topic.
To begin with, extensive research is required to gather relevant information, statistics, and legal
precedents surrounding capital punishment. The writer must delve into historical contexts,
international comparisons, and the evolving perspectives on the death penalty. This involves
navigating through a multitude of academic articles, legal documents, and ethical discussions to
form a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
Once armed with information, the essay must be structured thoughtfully. The introduction
should captivate the reader's attention, presenting the issue and the writer's stance. The body
paragraphs need to present a logical flow of arguments, supported by evidence and
counterarguments to showcase a nuanced understanding. Balancing emotion and reason is crucial
here, as the topic inherently involves matters of life and death.
Additionally, the writer must be sensitive to the ethical implications and cultural differences
surrounding capital punishment. It's not only about making a persuasive case but also about
acknowledging the broader ethical landscape and the diversity of opinions on this contentious
issue. Striking this balance while maintaining a coherent and well-organized essay is no easy feat.
Moreover, the conclusion must tie all the arguments together and leave a lasting impression on
the reader. It should reinforce the writer's standpoint without disregarding the opposing views,
highlighting the complexity of the issue.
In summary, composing an argumentative essay about capital punishment is challenging due to
the need for extensive research, careful structuring, emotional sensitivity, and ethical
consideration. It requires a skilled writer to navigate through the intricate web of legal, moral,
and emotional aspects to present a compelling and well-rounded argument.

2. Essay on Biography of the Literary Works of Dylan Thomas
Drunk with melody, and what the words were, he cared not. This was a very
common view among early commentators about Dylan Thomas (Cox 1). Thomas
was a poet who was either loved or hated. It depended on the individual, and how
they viewed his poetry. He was very famous for his poetry because it contained
visions of life, aspects of birth and death, fear, grief, joy, and beauty. At a younger
age, Thomas was a very violent poet. As he grew older, he spoke for all men greatly
when he wrote. He wrote his poems referring to the qualities and sensations of life.
The strength of feelings, which were expressed in his writings, gave many different
impressions about Thomas attitudes toward religion and spirituality, relationships,
and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem contained lines of great beauty, but descriptive in horror and suffering
toward the redemption of man, after Crucifixion (Magill 54). This poem
demonstrated the life and death paradox. It made clear that the person in the poem,
resembled Christ who dies, along with humans who will also die. A critic stated that
this poem was absolute poetry, by a pattern of words and images. This certain critic
saw Thomas begin his writing toward the economy more (Knepper 2885). Thomas
was not successful in this poem because it was too packed and fragmentary. He did
not communicate his suffering and hope into the poem (Magill 54).
Over Sir John s Hill is another poem that Dylan wrote, but was enjoyed a lot more.
To make this poem interesting, he used the technique of allegory. Allegory is when
a character acts as more than one thing at a time. He does this by making an actor,
act as a bird, who acts like a mortal man, who also acts as a immortal soul. The actor
was three parts of three different stories, all in one tale. This poem also illustrates the
legal system and religion. The birds and countryside played the role of human
behavior. The Hill represented the Judge who sentenced humans to die. The bird was
sentenced because it played too many tricks on other birds, in reality, other people.
The Hawk acted as the executioner. The Heron in the poem, represented the church
which ignored all the chaos around it (Knepper 2886). Thomas
3. Bbc s Lack Of Revenue
amount of revenue from its advertising it needed to have a higher percentage of the
public watching its channel. While this required a lot of commencing investment to
create the programmes in the long term it would cater more than enough advertising
revenue to cover this cost. This also, although maybe cautiously, influenced the
BBC. While at first glance it may suggest that the BBC and ITV have different
revenue streams and are therefore not direct competitors, the BBC had to keep up
with the increasing quality of the ITV programmes. This was not because, unlike
ITV, they need to increase revenue but because if they were not seen to have
programmes of a related or greater quality than ITV then soon enough the general

This would lead to rivalry not only between the different contractors. However,
there was a frustration on the government s behalf, due to not designating enough
frequencies, this was unable to happen. Instead to still keep competition high the
ITA decided to part the franchises on a weekday/weekend basis. People were fed
up of the American commercial nature of ITV and how all of its shows endeavored
for ratings rather than quality and so there was a committee set up to question the
state of broadcasting in the 1960 s. It was called the Pilkingtons report and its
operation was to clean up the profanity of ITV. The report celebrated the BBC and
allowed the introduction of a second channel, BBC 2. In a way the Pilkington
report was like going back in a way in broadcasting history, it took on the
paternalistic role, that the public so detested about the BBC. Eventually people
accepted ITV and the BBC working together and the competition grew much less
intense. People had decided what shows they did and did not like and would pick
and choose between the two, this also known as the golden age of television which
endured nearly twenty years. Between 1960 and 1962. The Pilkington committee met
to contemplate the future of broadcasting in Britain. This was at a time of increasing
hostility towards the somewhat newly formed commercial broadcaster, ITV. At the
time the committee published their report it was not surprising that ITV came under
distinct criticism. The committee found ITV broadcasted programmes of a trivial
nature. This was most probably not a reference to the actual subjects discussed but to
the actual style and presentation of these subjects. This report led to the introduction
of a second BBC channel, BBC 2 in 1964. In 1980 the Broadcasting Act was passed
which applaud the
4. The Devil s Shadow Plot
Time Setting: The Devil s Shadow by Clifford Lindsey Alderman occurred in the late
seventeenth century from 1692 1693. This is the time period that the Salem Witch
Trials occurred. The principle plot of the story rested on the occasions paving the
way to the Salem Witch Trials, the trials themselves, and the consequence of the trials.
Point by point records of witch executions, the real trials, and the occasions that
created the trials were examined in the story.
Spot Setting: Most of the move in this story made place in Salem, Massachusetts.
This was the origin of the witchcraft craziness and it was additionally the genuine site
of the Salem Witch Trials. The town of Salem, Massachusetts in the late seventeenth

This occasion fit into the story in light of the fact that it set off the witchcraft
madness that tailed it. Numerous individuals abruptly got to be charged after the
young ladies got to be connected with Tituba and witchcraft. This occasion gave a
decent delineation of life in the late seventeenth century by demonstrating how
neurotic individuals were about the vicinity of witchcraft in their general public.
They were prepared to accept that individuals were witches suddenly, and as a result
of this, they unreasonably blamed and killed hundreds for individuals. This can be
seen as the beginning stage of the witchcraft madness in Salem that executed such a

5. Historical Significance Of Invictus
Invictus is a historical film that takes place during post apartheid South Africa. It
was directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. The
film is based on John Carlin s book, Playing the enemy: Nelson Mandela And Game
That Made A Nation. It is mainly about Rugby World Cup in 1995 in South Africa
.
Even though apartheid is over, there is a racial tension within the society. However,
Nelson Mandela, along with the captain of rugby team, Francois Pienaar, tried to
solve this by hoping for successful game. Most of the scenes in the film creatively
demonstrate the historical significance in an era of post apartheid. According to the
film, Nelson Mandela became the first democratic president in South Africa in 1994.
Apartheid laws were dismantled, but both white and black people did not get along,
which was concerning for Mandela. Knowing the Rugby World Club was taken in
South Africa, Mandela believed this sport event will successfully unite people
together even though the Springboks team symbolized white supremacy. With this in

In the film, Mandela mentioned that the poem affected him in a positive way as he
never gave up on being the anti activist during his time in the prison. The film is an
inspiring movie that teaches us a lot of things. For instance, we respect our people
despite the color skins in order to keep justice going and be satisfied as humans. Also,
the film is not only focusing on the sport but the relationship between justices and
discriminations within the society. In my opinion, Mandela was the hard working,
inspiring president in South Africa as his treatments toward his society were the
examples of the justice. Overall, this film is highly recommended for

In Douglas Adams s novel, The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, Arthur Dent and
Ford Prefect traverse an imperfect galaxy plagued by a lack of individuality. In The
Seven Deadly Sins Today, Henry Fairlie ventures that this galactic epidemic correlates
to the transmission of immorality throughout the world. Douglas Adamsutilizes satire
and characterization to demonstrate how the human condition is flawed. Furthermore,
Henry Fairlie calls upon the archetypal seven deadly sinsto criticize human banality.
Collectively, Adams s wittiness and Fairlie s bitterness encourage the reader to
exercise one s identity. First, Douglas Adams satirizes modern society to delineate the
blemishes that chafe the face of humankind. Next, characterization... Show more

Essentially, Adams conveys that people are too worried about their financial
status and forget to enjoy life to its fullest. Money becomes a shackle and enslaves
the people of planet Earth with one of the seven deadly sins: greed. The internet
dictionary of Princeton University defines greed as excessive desire to acquire or
possess more than one needs or deserves ( ). Henry Fairlie agrees with this
definition and offers an eloquent sentiment: The be all and end all of life should not
be to get rich, but to enrich the world (26). However, Fairlie s plea is unheard due to
the deafening materialism of modern society. It is a sad fact, but a fact nonetheless,
that those who want to enrich are less abundant than those who want to get rich. This
phenomenon occurs because wealth is more easily attainable than enrichment. Wealth
requires one lucky day at the New York Stock Exchange or the acquisition of an
emerging franchise. Enrichment requires an acute mind and patience because social
change often takes generations to root in the minds of people. The solution to both
Adams and Fairlie s sinful society rests in patience. People should not try to perform
a lifetime of actions in a fraction of their lifetime. Adams then reveals the twisted
prototype for the space age hero through the character traits of Arthur Dent and Ford
Prefect. Arthur was born and raised on Earth,
8. Chinese Immigration To America In The 1800 s
For centuries, America has been created, formed, and shaped through the ideas,
cultures, and beliefs of other countries that are brought to America through
immigration. Some say that immigration is something that is necessary for American
development and improvement. Each different culture, religion, and group that
migrates to America has affected the country in its own unique way. One culture that
greatly affected the lives of those living in America in the 1800 s was the Chinese.
For many different reasons, thousands of Chinese found themselves immigrating to
America, causing the population of their culture to grow rapidly. Although this
created all new opportunities for Chinese men struggling to feed their families,
American s at the time took offense to their migration, and were not happy with the

Many came here seeking a better life, others to be with their families. Today,
hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens can consider the United States their home.
It was not always like this, though. The first Chinese immigrants were mostly young
men, coming here seeking a job to provide for their families back home. After the
gold rush that supplied thousands of Chinese with jobs, many of the men returned
back home to China. One of the big reasons that sent many Chinese men fleeing to
America and other countries, was the decline in Chinese economy after the Opium
War in 1842. After their crushing defeat in this war, more and more Chinese
immigrants came to America on a long term scale. They found work as agricultural
laborers, on railroad construction crews throughout the West, and in low paying
industrial jobs. Despite their reasoning to come here, each Chinese immigrant had
one thing in common. They each brought their language, culture, customs, and beliefs
to the country. By 1882, there were over 110,000 documented Chinese immigrants

a young girl, and Biff Brannon, a middle aged man that owns a diner. As the book

10. The Odyssey, Composed by Homer
One having power and control over fate would be ones most impossible quest. The
Odyssey, composed by Homer, shows how mankind is always under the mercy and
leniency of fate, which was expressed through Odysseus. One can only make a
choice and hope that the consequences are fated to suit one. His struggles were
external and internal. One would never plan struggles in their fate if one was able to
manage it, yet, fate is full of struggles. Odysseushad no power over his fate and
needed a prophecy so he can withstand the struggles and suffering fated for him,
therefore, the management of fate is just a myth.
Fate could be ones destructible enemy or ones beloved friend. If fate was managed
by man, it would behold a beautiful story; however, it beholds the darkness of night
which was proven by odusseia. Odysseus, the greatest mortal, was unable to endure
the suffering fate planned for him until he got guidance from the gods and a
prophecy. But if you only knew, down deep, what pains are fated to fill your cup
before you reach that shore, you d stay right here, preside in our house with me and
be immortal (V, 228 230). In this quote, Calypso begs Odysseus once more to stay
with her. She told him if he knew what was fated for him, he would stay with her.
This illustrates a picture of how Odysseus has no control over his fate and blindly
goes with his life. In this quote, Odysseus made a choice of going back to his native
land, but this does not mean that he

What were the key effects of the Spanish Civil War?
Spanish Civil War was war which lasted from 1936 to 1939. For the Spanish it was
total war, because whole available arms, weapons, economy and other sectors of
country were included in this war. But the Spanish Civil War was limited war for
foreign powers, since they hadn t been directly included into the conflict. In this war
the new technology was very significant, especially dominance of the airpower.
Control of the sea was very important, too. These two segments played very
important role in making decision of who is going to win the war. On the other hand,
the war on land took the biggest number of lives, and that was one of the important
consequences of the war. Spanish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All land reforms made by republicans were cancelled; therefore Spain s agricultural
economy remained inefficient and ineffective. With outbreak of World War II Spain
s economy started improving, because Franco decided to be neutral in this war, but
this also brought the continuity of Spain s isolation. This isolation was result of the
Civil War and it lasted until Franco s death in 1975.
Due to the Franco s regime and his decision of cleaning the country from
Republicans, half a million Spaniards went to exile. They included most of the
Spanish intellectuals. The main Franco s aim was to make as biggest division
between victors and vanquished ad he could. So, after the war he forbade use of
Catalan, Basque and Galician languages and centralised all power in Madrid. Then,
Republicans who escaped imprisonment couldn t find jobs, and were highly
discriminated. Division of Spanish society was introduced into the whole segments of
living. Therefore no one dared to stand against the Franco s policy.
Based on Spanish isolation and the fact that there was no modernization for 36 years,
we can say that Spain was frozen in time during the Franco s dictatorship.
Spanish Civil Warhad effects on the international level, too. It influenced on some
countries and their relations.
USSR was one of the countries which were on the republican side, and the Franco s
win had effects on them. The fact that communism was defeated

There several theories that have been developed to try and explain the behavior of a

argues that a consumer has the capacity to measure the level of satisfaction that she
derives from consumption of a given quantity of a commodity. пѓ Ordinal utility

ordinal utility approach . there are points of tangency when price changes within a
certain range. These points of tangency give the different amounts of quantity
bought on a certain price range. The relation between the price range and the
quantity demanded constitutes the derivation of the ordinary demand curve. The
demand curve is derived from the logical deduction process based on the concept
of the indifference curve and budget line. It is one of the theoretical conclusion of
the deduction process. The equilibrium points A, and B in Diagram 1 show the
optimum quantities demanded of a consumer faced with different price levels,
ceteris paribus. The change in prices are expressed by the rotation of the budget

With the ever changing world of healthcare comes the numerous issues the nursing
profession faces today. Just a few of these issues include economics, politics,
epidemics of disease such as Ebola, and healthcare reform. One of the biggest issues
within the nursing profession today is the nursing shortage. This issue is not only a
concern for the nursing professional, but also a concern for the whole health care
system as well as consumers. With the implementation of healthcare reform in the
United States, and having already been implemented in other countries, nurses will be
needed more than ever. Along with nursing shortages comes lager nurseto patient
ratios as well as a higher demand of hours for nurses. How will this effect the
profession and the consumers? How do nurses respond to increased hours? What
are some of the problems the nursing shortage brings about? What can we do to
bring in and train new nurses? These are just some of the questions the profession of
nursing faces when considering nursing shortages and how to tackle this ongoing
issue. Some say the shortage is increasing due to the increased age of the nursing
population that is close to retirement. Jurascheck and Ranganathan (2011) says that
with 50% of RNs within 20 years of retirement, RN populations will require larger
inflows to maintain historic linear increases in size (p. 246). With so many nurses
retiring and more getting close to

In August 2016, I sat down for a discussion with one of the attorneys at Hotze

of the firm s expansion into pharmaceutical litigation, an area of practice that he
has had years of experience prior to joining the firm. He graciously took the time
one afternoon to sit down and allow me to conduct an interview with him. First, I
asked him to discuss his educational background and how he began to practice law.
Mr. Dunlap, a native of the Dallas area, completed his undergraduate degree at the
University of Kansas where he studied history. He said that while he thoroughly
enjoyed his degree program s content, he did not see a future career for him with
history and given that many of his older family members, including his mother, were
practicing lawyers, law schoolseemed to him to be a natural next step for him. He
returned to Dallas to get his law degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU).
He said that, he felt extremely lucky that his parents were able to help finance his
legal education, so finances were not a major factor in his law school decision.
When I asked him how he came to choose SMU, he indicated that the two most
prominent factors were the location in the state he wished to practice and the school
s estimable reputation in Texas and the surrounding states. Mr. Dunlap told me that
once he got to law school, he was sure that he wanted to work for the JAG Corps

However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself,
struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without
knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain
the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my
weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing
process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre
writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I
struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure
out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I
started this class that learned that pre writing is vital, and requires time and attention
as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such
as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really
speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but
part of the pre writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the
writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

sexuality, ethnicity, class, race and power. Omar, son of a Pakistani immigrant, is

each other. The film seeks to highlight a progressive society in England during

The accountants building is more like a watchdog and a representation of how the

Britain. Nasser refers to the laundrette as a place where Omar can use a little water
to clear his brain. What was crowding Omar s mind when he was merely a young
man waiting to go to college with seemingly nothing to bother him? The scene
suggests the presence of something that oppresses Omar and the presence of the
laundrette as a refuge, a place for him to clear his brain a space where queer bodies
can express their desire. The sounds of water in the background echoes this. Water
is used to represent cleansing, life, and freedom in films (Shane Brown 2016). The
sound of water in the laundrette becomes a symbol of characters in stories
handling difficult life scenarios, a symbol of power in stories and can free
characters as well as claim them (ibid). The laundrette is equivalent to what
Gopinath describes as the diaspora a space of freedom (Gopinath pg 14). In the next
scene, I m going to analyze, we see Johnny from a high angle shot, finishing the
renovation the laundrette, now called Powders. The word powders can be translated
to mean fine, dry particles produced by the grinding, crushing, or disintegration of a
solid substance (Oxford Dictionary). Johnny and Omar can

individual has a certain identity and presents themselves in a specific way. People are
known to change due to influences in their everyday lives, which eventually changes
their identities into someone completely different. In these two essays, it becomes
evident that because of the pressures put upon people by these hierarchies, people
unconsciously change and are shaped into new individuals while hiding their true
identities. Any personcan be completely stripped of their old identities by falling...

In the Naked Citadel, the boy s identity is essentially being performed. They are
distinguished as superior non feminine men, while behind the scenes they are
typically performing feminine acts. Violently harassing the young knobs,
showering together, and making their beds together was where they could show
their true selves. Faludi mentions how the result is ruthless intimacy, in which
physical abuse stands in for physical affection, and every display of affection must
be counterbalanced by a display of sadism (Faludi, 100). The boys become so
infatuated with showing their feminine side that when they snap back to reality
they realize it is a sign of weakness and use anger to feel relief. The Cadets act like
they are on a stage playing a role in a play much like the Treehouse where men
dress up as Drag Queens. Both identities are being performed, which means while
playing a role you are still truly yourself. This is also seen in Biographies of
Hegemony, while Princeton and Harvard students are getting recruited, they put on

claimed that the most distinguishing features of investment banking are their
smartness and exclusivity (Ho, 166). This shows how by putting themselves in a

The Florida Museum of Natural History is a government sponsored museum that is
incorporated into the University of Florida in the city of Gainesville. The museum
was established by Frank Pickel, a professor of natural science at the Florida
Agricultural College in Lake City, and was dedicated to understanding, preserving,
and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. The state of Florida
formally assumed ownership of the museum in 1917 and established it as part of the
state university system. The purpose of the museum is set by Florida State Statue
1004.56 and requires the museum to collect and maintain a depository of biological,
archaeological, and ethnographic specimens and materials in sufficient numbers and
quantities to provide within the state and region a base for research on the variety,
evolution, and conservation of wild species; the composition, distribution,
importance, and functioning of natural ecosystems; and the distribution of prehistoric
and historic archaeological sites and an understanding of the aboriginal and early
European cultures that occupied them. The major weaknesses of the museum are in
the absences of interactive educational displays, adjuncts for the states educational
system, and the inability to reach the vast majority of its target audience. The
collection policy and mission statements require the museum to provide statewide
access of sufficient biological specimens for education and research. The current
museum has

Many people think that they are very knowledgeable about the world, but many
people probably have never heard of the African country, Burkina Faso. If you
haven t heard of it, maybe you ve seen its flag. their has a red top and a green
bottom with a small yellow star in the middle. It is a small landlocked country in the
western region of Africa, south of the Sahara. Education is very scarce in Burkina
Faso. French schools are used because it is the only way to get even a basic
education. After getting their basic education in Burkina Faso anyone who wants a
higher education must go to France because there are no colleges or universities in
Burkina Faso. The reason they go to France and not some other country is because
that is the country that ruled them before it gained its independence. Many woman
aren t even able to get to France because there is a small bias against woman, so
males are more likely to get the money to get to go to college.

There are no funerals for those that have died, because that is seen as disturbing the

they would sacrifice chicken and other livestock in their name.
The climate in Burkina Faso changes dramatically over the months. It has a
tropical climate, and two very distinct seasons. In the winter it is warm and dry. In

22. Nixon Checkers Speech
Richard Nixon Checkers Speech On September 23, 1952 Richard Milhous Nixon
sat down to address the largest television audience ever amassed by a politician this
was no ordinary political speech. Nixon s future in politics was on the line. In one
speech Nixon had the daunting task of not only clearing his name of the allegation
that he had received illegal campaign funds, but he also had to present himself as a
viable asset to the Republican ticket. Nixon bared his heart to the American people,
and in turn was applauded for his honesty and good character. Nixon s speech was
met with nearly unanimous acceptance and praise. But, audience acceptance alone is

The purpose of Nixon s speech must also be examined in order to make a
comprehensive analysis of the speech. In his autobiography Nixon described the
three criteria his speech must meet in order to convey his purpose: (1) [it must]
answer the immediate attack by explaining and defending the fund, (2) ward off
further allegations by showing that he did not accrue personal profit, and (3)
launch a political counterattack (176). Nixon used these guide lining principles to
steer his way in the short 48 hour period he had to compose his speech. The
principal way these purposes were achieved was through the application of the
three Aristotelian modes of proof: ethos, pathos and logos (Cathcart 45). The
primary Aristotelian proof Nixon used to appeal to his audience was ethos, or
credibility. In a sense, the purpose of the Checkers Speech was to reaffirm Nixon s
status as a reputable politician the public could put their faith in. Robert Cathcart
more precisely defined ethos as the image that receivers have of the communicator
as an expert source with a capacity for leadership and decision making and as one
who can be trusted . Nixon s credibility was gone as far as the American public was
concerned until he cleared his name of the allegations he had used $16,000 of
private funds given to him by outside donors. In order to prove his credibility Nixon
decided to

of the diagnostic and assessments will be determined by how the patient presents

Desmond Tutu brings hope for goodness, reconciliation, and honesty to humanity. He
is a defining example for an Architect of Hope. In the last 85 years and counting, this

At a young age, Desmond Tutu got tuberculosis, a serious, life threatening sickness.
Treatment would be painful, but luckily doctors detected it early so he had a plan for
recovery. All throughout this near death experience, Tutu found comfort in God, and
gained a tremendous support from Trevor Huddleston, the priest who inspired him
initially. After a grueling time in the hospital, Desmond Tutu was released from the
hospital at 16 (Crompton 14 16). While many may call this an unlucky mishap,
Desmond Tutu came out of the experience grateful, and appreciating life much more
than had he not gone through pain. Desmond Tutu s experience with pain is hopeful
and inspiring in the fact that it actually changed himself for the better. It resonated
with me personally because I always thought that pain was a bad thing and that it
should be avoided at all costs. But after reading about Desmond
25. Constrained Action Experiment Essay
Background information for this experiment can be obtained via Wulf, McNevin and
Shea s (2001) work, as they stated internal focus of attention may actually constrain or
interfere with automatic control processes that would normally regulate the
movement . The previous statement shows an internal focus of attentionas more of a
hindrance to a particular movement, whereas an external focus of attention allows the
motor system to more naturally self organise (2001). In 2003, McNevin, Shea and
Wulf went one step further by looking into the constrained action hypothesis. This
states that when focus is being directed towards the body it accounts for relatively
poorer learning when compared to focus being distal. In this experiment it looks to
test the constrained action hypothesis (2003) by having two different external
focuses. One being proximal, focusing on the racket, the other being distal, this meant

In the ever changing business world, a key component to the productivity within the

Communication can be classified as formal or informal, internal or external as well.
Informal and formal communication are very common forms of communication
within the business workplace and can also play a role in the daily lives of people.
Informal communication is generally used in daily life because it can be defined as a
less serious way of communicating such as texting, socializing with peers, or a simple
verbal conversation. On the other hand, formal communication is more common in a
workplace environment than informal communication would be. Formal
communication is more common because communication between colleagues and
managers is meant to be held on a certain level of respect and formality and be
focused on the task at hand.
Verbal and nonverbal are also forms of communications that exist within the
workplace as well. Nonverbal is a form of communication that can be translated and
observed based on body language. This can be a difficult thing to manage and
control in the workplace because anything like a handshake that is not firm and eye
contact that is not direct when you are having a conversation with someone can be
interpreted in many ways and some have the possibility as being seen as offensive.
For example, Nonverbal communication can be anything that ranges from facial

In my opinion, the balance of the power is really needed to be implemented to avoid

The 1970s energy crisis was a problem in the 1970s, because it caused panic in

embargo was imposed by the members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum

three months later oil prices shot up from $3 per barrel to $12. Also due to this oil

Government tried to help, by taking strides to preserve energy. One example, was
how gas stations were requested to stay closed on Sundays. Since people could not

31. The Qin Dynasty And The Chinese Empire Essay
Before the Qin Dynasty, China was composed of a network of city states that were
loyal to the Chinese king. The seven Warring States had their own institutions that
were run by aristocrats. The Qin Dynasty took initiative to expand their territory and
to unite the Chinese empire together. Through their ruthless military techniques the
Qin Dynasty was able to conquer the city states in China. The Qin Dynasty ruled
from 221 BCE 206 BCE; during their regime, Emperor Qin s primary goal was to
unify the Chinese people. Even though the Qin Dynasty was a short lived empire, it
played a major role in unifying the Chinese empire and provided a foundation for
succeeding regimes through a centralized government, standardized systems, and
through infrastructure. Even though the Qin Dynasty deprived the civilization of
education, it created a strong bureaucratic system that limited feudal power and
developed a cooperative population. Each Warring state followed a different political
system, before it was conquered by Qin. The First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, felt it
was necessary to legitimize his power to unify the city states and for a cooperative
population. In the Qin Dynasty, the institution of emperor had a special meaning in
China as the repository of imperial legitimacy (Feng 2013, 249). In other words, the
first emperor was given the title of being a mythical ruler that had godly powers and
is the righteous leader of the empire based on the Mandate of Heaven

skirt with a low cut blouse and ruby red lipstick. She places her heels on top of the
table and speaks of the many men she has loved. Another dons golden hair that
falls in soft waves against her rosy pink cheeks and blue eyes. She speaks in a low
voice and gushes about how much attention she receives from the opposite sex and
her particular affection for one young man. The third wears faded layered garments
with unkempt grey locks loosely fitted into a braid. She describes the life of an old

Though the woman may believe love lies in this precarious mode of living, she never
finds true love and ends up feeling lost and empty.
Rossetti capitalizes on the appearance of a beautiful woman to address the vain
pursuit of beauty in place of love. In the poem, Rossetti writes, And one there sang
who soft and smooth as snow / Bloomed like a tinted hyacinth at a show (4 5). A
graceful singer has always been considered an emblem of beauty to the world. In
addition, fairer complexions, similar to the color of snow, characterize delicate and
attractive women. Rossetti also uses the brilliant colors of hyacinth flowers to
further describe the woman s alluring nature. Because the woman has such an
appealing appearance, she most likely attracts a lot of male attention, so it should
not be surprising to readers that out of the three women, the beautiful one seeks
love through marriage. Rossetti states, one temperately / Grew gross in soulless
love, a sluggish wife (9 10). Since the man only married the woman for her beauty,
he neglects her when she grows old and unattractive. The woman dwells in soulless
love because the man s love for her was only skin deep and did not involve her heart.
Rossetti depicts the life of a loveless old maid to illustrate the negative effects of a
life in sole pursuit of love. Rossetti says, And one was blue with famine after love,

The NCAA is an association for college athletes. As time has passed the NCAA has
begun to look and function like a business. This image has begun to create debates
on whether college athletes should be paid or not. The NCAA has generated a
significant amount of money off of the duties of college athletes. Therefore, since
college athletes create a large sum of money for the NCAA, it will only make
sense that the college athletes receive money as well. College athletes make plenty
of money for the NCAA and they don t receive as much as they deserve. Without
the athletes, the NCAA would not be able to make TV deals nor generate any
money at all. The NCAA made $770 million in TV right deals alone off of the NCAA
BasketballTournament, March Madness . How much of that money went to the
athletes? None at all. The NCAA makes money off the athletes in many other areas.
John Brill, in his article Should College Athletes be Paid? informs us that, The
NCAA defies its own devotion to amateurism are the sale of video game licenses,
game merchandise, footage, etc. that provide direct profit for the association. The
NCAA is taking advantage of the gifted athletes for a couple years at time to create a
large amount of money that only benefits the NCAA and schools. Besides the NCAA
using the athletes to make money, the college athletes must put a lot of their time into
the sport. It s not fair for athletes to put their time into something that they will not be
rewarded for. Student

many jobs due to the labor shortages that the North had been experiencing. To be
more exact, the North received a major labor blow, due to the large enlistment of

the first time. Blacks were coming together to share in the New Negro . This
movement was marked by advancements in the arts. Poetry, fiction, drama, and
essay were the major components of the writings. These works express the
hardships of slavery as well as racism, and discrimination. These works also called
for a sense of racial consciousness, and if self internalization. A push toward racial
integration was pursued, as well as the development of music, especially jazz,
spirituals and blues, and many other genres. With so many prominent and intellectual
African Americans of that time period, it is hard to touch on the advancements and
contributions that each person made to the movement, but the few great ones will

Americans began to establish themselves economically, paving the way blacks to be
able to survive in a capitalistic society. For a period of about ten years, Harlem

37. Alexander Pope And Jonathan Swift And Materialism
Analysis
Society s view of women have changed over time, but have always had objectifying
tendencies. During the 18th century, cosmetic alteration to natural beauty and
materialism heightened, which resulted in a change in the way society viewed
women. This change objectified women and scrutinized them more than in previous
time periods. Authors such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift convey these
views throughout their writings. Pope s Rape of the Lock exposes the materialism
used in objectifying women, mainly in the upper class societal levels. The plot of
the story centers a materialistic goal, as the lock of hair that was cut from a womans
head became so called evidence of a man s sexual conquest. Other sexual conquests,

Another way to analyze the list is that the Bibles are brought down to the
materialistic level of the other listed cosmetics. Both ways conclude that the
cosmetic, material items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along
with them. Another list comes with a comparison of paired items that contradict
each other s importance. His comparisons include claims about dreadful
occurrences that may compare to ...stain[ing] her honor, or her new brocade,/ [to]
forget her prayers, or miss a masquerade,/ Or lose her heart, or necklace, at a ball;...
(Pope II 106 107). The first description used in each line is something of
importance, as staining honor, forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have serious
implications. More serious actions are then paired with trivial material ones; staining
a new brocade, missing a masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. Pairing material
actions with important ones unify them as being on the same level of importance.
The contradiction is removed and materialism is elevated.
Objectification of women goes hand and hand with materialism. When Pope
speaks of the sexual conquests in The Rape of the Lock, he only focuses on the
material aspects that result from sex. He first speaks of the Baron, who states he will
win his prize by force to ravish, or by fraud betray; as he will try anything to achieve
his goal (Pope II 32). The aspect of using force emphasizes

41. Opinion Essay On Suvs
A lot of people today are interested in buying an SUV. When starting to do research
before purchasing, they might wonder what the top 10 small SUVs are or just
what the top 10 best SUVs are. If they only want to look at brands or certain cars in
brands then they might wonder what the top 5 SUV brands or models are. There
are ways that SUVs are rated and people can look and see what the top features are
for today s SUVs. This article serves to help people understand how these SUVs are
are ranked and what features are highest on the list.
First thing to do before learning how these are ranked is to decide if you want to look
up specific information such as top 10 luxury SUVs or best 6 cylinder SUV. Once
you decide exactly what kind of SUV ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are things that most new car buyers are interested in and have at the very top
of their consideration list.
( removed HTML ) Safety ( removed HTML )
When buying a new car, this is one of the biggest aspects that people consider. They
want to make sure their families are going to be safe in the car they purchase and
they aren t going to have to worry about having a vehicle that is going to have a
higher chance of putting their families lives at risk. The way that they give an SUV
a safety rating is by gathering information from top sources that specialize in safety
ratings. Some of those sources are: the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. They try and help
ensure that the SUV is the safest that it can possibly be.
( removed HTML ) Reliability ( removed HTML )
Reliability is one of those things that go along with safety. A person doesn t want
to worry about getting stranded on the side of the rode with their families in the
car. Not only could this be bad depending on weather, but it could be dangerous if it
is on a highway where vehicles go higher speeds. This score comes from the
Predicted Reliability rating. These are always given by J.D. Power and Associates.
The way they get this score is by looking at the historical initial quality and
dependability over the last 3 years. This information comes from studies that have
been conducted by J.D. Power and
42. Essay on The Temple of Athena Nike
The Temple of Athena Nike exemplifies the early Greek belief that the gods,
specifically Athena, held divine providence over government and victory in war. It
was built as part of the same project as the Parthenon, one of the greatest
achievements of Mycenaean Greece. Lasting from 1300 1000 B.C.E, Mycenaean
Greece bordered Epirus, Macedonia, Phrace, Phryapa, Mysia, Caria, and Lydia.
Encompassing this time span, Ancient Greecelasted from 8000 to 50 B.C.E. The
achievements of Athensin this time include the Pythagorean Theorem and the
Socratic dialogues. The epic Trojan War was said to have occurred in Mycenaean
times as well. So were the Ionic Greeks who built this ancient temple. (Ancient

His statue adorns Kolokotroni Square. In front of Old Parliament, this equestrian
statue s location symbolizes his celebration atop a hill. Another similarity of these
two structures is their open air feel, which reflects the motives of Ancient Greek
democracy, as is shown in its open meetings where freedom of speech was upheld.
Such are the Temple of Athena Nike s connections with government and warfare.
(Calvin, Calvin.edu)(Watterson, 25) The Temple of Athena Nike was built where it
is for various strategic and religious reasons. Pericles rebuilt it as part of an effort to
increase morale and renew culture during wartime. It was built over a previous
temple to Athena, which was used for similar things. Utilized continuously by
Bronze Age Greeks, the temple also served as a military base. References to Nike,
the goddess of victory, also strengthened the luck associated with this structure and,
therefore, its appeal as a fort. It also was arranged to face an altar to the east.
Furthermore, the location affected the use of stone, as the natural shapes and quality
of local marble inspired the Doric and Ionic orders. Thus, the Ancient Greeks had
reasons for placing the Temple of Athena Nike where it still stands today. (Ancient

43. Who Is The Ambiguous Narrator In The Scarlet Letter...
In the novel The Scarlet Letter, the ambiguous narrator uses third person omniscient
when telling the story. Third person omniscient is a point of view where the narrator
knows all the thoughts, actions, and feelings of all characters. The narrator may
move from character to character to show how each one contributes to the plot.
Although, in The Scarlet Letter the reader can sense partisanship from the narrator. It
is easy to recognize by the tone and environment that the characters of Hester and
Dimmesdale are shown that the narrator tells their unfortunate stories differently and
with more pity towards the other. However, the reader also can sense horror and
revengefulness every time Chillingworth is in the scene. This also shows that the...

From the very beginning, Reverend Dimmesdale is perceived by his congregation
as being very afflicted by this whole Hester Prynne scandal. The narrator can also
come off as a little sarcastic in this passage referring to the pastor as godly when one
usually associates the profession with a God bidding man.
Poor, miserable man! what right had infirmity like his to burden itself with crime?
Crime is for the iron nerved, who have their choice either to endure it, or, if it press
too hard, to exert their fierce and savage strength for a good purpose, and fling it off
at once!
This passage from chapter 12 is good example at how the narrator becomes involved
with the characters throughout the novel. The narrator s tone is pitiful here and he is
voicing his own opinions about Dimmesdale and how he feels about the way the
character is handling the crime he has committed. The narrator does not seem to be
just a story teller but a witness in the events that took place between the Reverend
and Hester. This allows the narrator to be more earnest when describing the characters

1.Introduction
1.1 Aim
During the 6 hands on individual labs before this mini project, we have learnt the
design and implementation of filter and oscillator, together with applied
characterization of different components. The objective of Mini Project was for
students to demonstrate their innovative design skills and implement knowledge
learnt in lectures to real life product design. Therefore, we aimed to integrate what
we learnt in individual labs into one single product, which is a Voice
Disguiser that can solve practical problems of witness protection.

2.2 Microphone Unit
The microphone was implemented to allow the user to transmit speaker s voice as
analog voice signal from the audio socket. The analog voice signal captured by the
microphone is then needed to pass through an amplifier circuit. The amplitude of this
voice signal can be amplified from millivolts to volts so that the signal becomes easier
to for us work with in following implementations. As figure 2 shown, this amplifier
circuit is built by firstly connecting the microphone input through the positive input
terminal of the LM358 chip. Secondly, a feedback loop is built through the output and
negative terminal. Then the analog voice signal captured by the microphone is,
therefore, amplified.
Figure 2: Schematic Of Microphone Unit
The resistance values of R4 and R3 is purposely chosen for an amplifier gain of 5.7.
As shown in Figure 3, a significant amplifying effect of the microphone voice signal
can been seem afer passing through the amplifier.
Figure 3: Waveform Of Voice Signal Before (Blue) And After (Yellow) Amplifier
Based on oscilloscope detection, the peak to peak value of microphone voice
signal before amplifier is 220mV, while the one after the amplifier is 1.28V. The
actual amplifier gain is therefore 5.8 (1.28/0.22), which is very close to the designed
46. Multiculturalism And Media Analysis
While American mainstream media has often been notorious and often ridiculed for
being directed towards specifically white audiences, the rise of populations of color
has recently altered the target audience of media industries. While minorities have
made up the population long before, only recently have industries paid attention to
the needs and desires of other non white individuals. Thus, the panelists featured in
Millennials, Multiculturalism and Media: What the AudienceWants / Convergence

incorporating multiculturalism into American mainstream media.

In order to appeal to such diverse populations and their tastes, several shows that
realistically portray ambicultural lifestyles have begun to air on television networks.
In spite of the progress made so far for diversity in American media, the panelists still
determined several areas where media industries still have yet to change in order to
weaken the power of white dominated media whether that be redefining historical
notions regarding race or limiting the amount of white staff within media outlets.
While the panelists featured in the video all share similar beliefs and arguments for
appealing to multicultural audiences, there are also many other scholarly sources and
online articles that point out similar key issues. Despite the focus on Asian American
representation within the articles, the same arguments are made by the panelists
because several other minorities have experienced the same struggle to achieve more
exposure in an industry that is still heavily dominated by

really enjoyed your character s backstory, and how the events in her life have sort
of shaped her personality! And I am going to give you one more post for this, but
first I d like you to do some revisions with this last one. The first half is basically a
giant block of dialogue. In line with making your posts more interesting, I think that
dialogue could be broken up. For instance, what could have been going on while she
was talking? Is she just standing there? Does she gesture? What s the tone of her
voice as she talks, and does it change throughout her speaking here? There s a lot of
other information that you could have added to make her speaking more engaging.

and proteins involved in it. I ve actually come across bits in my reading that are
connected to things I learned in those classes. And besides, I think my experience
in the Neuron especially, was the class that prepared me the most so far for what it
s like to do research. Finding and reading articles for that paper was one of the
most intense things I ve ever had to do, and was almost like a research project
without any lab research happening, just the literature part and a proposal for a
experiment. The next few days I really need to buckle down and read the articles I
ve found. It s probably a sign that I ve found some of the most relevant things that I
could when search variations of the same topics bring up the same handful of
articles over and over. And I need to take better notes than I have, to have
something to tell Cole next week when he gets back. Summary of everything I ve
learned, both in experiments and in the literature, and even a proposal of what I
want to try next with Hoeschet. Well, I ve sort of got an idea for that because I ended
48. Information Lifecycle Management
Information Lifecycle Management
How do you think information lifecycle management will affect coordination and
conflicts between operations managers and information technology managers?
It has become progressively more documented that information is the most important
strategic resource that any organization has to deal with. Key to the compilation,
analysis, production and allocation of information within an organization is the
quality of IT services provided to the business. It is necessary that it is recognized that
IT services are vital, strategic, organizational assets and consequently organizations
must invest suitable levels of resources into the support, delivery and management of
these vital IT services and the IT systems that support them. The challenges for IT
managers are to co ordinate and work in collaboration with the businesses to deliver
high quality IT services. This has to be accomplished while adopting a more business
and customer oriented approach to delivering services and cost optimization
(Cartlidge, Hanna, Rudd, Macfarlane, Windebank Rance, 2007). On strategy that
businesses can use is that of Information Life Cycle Management (ILM) which is a
broad approach to managing the course of an information system s data and related
metadata from formation and early storage to the time when it becomes outdated and
is done away with. Different from earlier approaches to data storage management,
ILM involves all facets of managing data, starting
49. Emotional Intelligence In The 1950 s
Emotional Intelligence (Ei) became a popular subject to explore in the 1990 s after
the publication of Daniel Goleman s work. Suddenly many leading organisations
wanted to incorporate this is part of their leadership development programmes and
assessment centres. Actually, emotional intelligence has been explored, debated and
developed in a number of ways since the 1920 s and the term became more common
in the 1950 s. Before then it was a mix with social intelligence. The earliest work, by
Robert Thorndike, defined this as the abilities to understand others and to act or
behave wisely in relation to others. Goleman defined Ei as the capacity for
recognising our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for

Similarly to EQ, this assessment provides a basis from which development can
happen. When we know more about ourselves in each of these Components we can
identify specific actions and ideas to enhance them. This is good for the individual as
they will become more stress resistant. It is also good for organisation, because the
more resilient the individuals within it the better they will handle pressure situations
and performance is maintained.
The 6 Components have an overlap with the main competencies and capacities within
Goleman s Ei model. The personal competency he identifies includes five of these
components as they are fundamentally about knowing and managing ourselves. The
relationships Component fits nicely within the social competency of

The Comanche Indians
The Comanche have most recently been found in the Southern Plains, which
stretches from Nebraska to the northern part of Texas. They were fully in Texas by
the 1700 s. It is believed that the Comanche derived from the Shoshone Indians, found
in Wyoming. The language spoken by the Comancheis actually a form of Uto
Aztecan language that when compared to the Shoshone language, the two are very
similar. The Comanche s were great warriors and did not really indulge in religious
practices too much nor did they use folktales or legends very often. The Comanche s
economy was mostly based on their lifestyle. Comanche s were bands, not tribes,

The Comanche were such skilled warriors, that they were able to push the Indian
groups further south and further west, they kept the Spanish in the southern part of
Texas and prevented them from venturing north, and they also gave American settlers
a very difficult time. The Comanche were very skilled horsemen. They were the most
feared Indians on horses. It is actually said that the Comanche were the best Indian
horsemen warriors ever. They had remarkable ability and skill on horses. The
Comanche first met the Spanish around the late 1600 s. The most prominent
contribution from the Spanish was the horse. The horse helped strengthen the
Comanche. The Spanish would not benefit too much from trading with the
Comanche. Most of the trading done was usually for things or persons stolen by the
Comanche, which the Spanish wanted back. Most of the time it was people. The
Comanche would also encounter some American and German settlers in the late
1700 s early 1800 s. However, the Comanche didn t really trade with them, they
would just steal horses, cattle, possessions and women and children, which they
would sell back to the settlers of course. Traditionally the homeland of the Comanche
was the northern part of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and New
Mexico. Currently most
