A Note On Subprime Loans
Recent mayhem in the American economy attributed to a weakening of business
regulation. In the absence of oversight, lending became a wildcat enterprise.
Mortgage brokers easily deceived home buyers by promoting subprime loans, and
then they passed on bundled documents to unwary investors. These subprime loans
were offered at a rate above prime to individuals who did not qualify for prime rate
loans. The loans were made to people who had no other way to access funds, and little
understanding of the mechanics of the loan. A scholarly document on subprime
lendingby Hanif NuMan warns, Servicing prime and alternative A (not subprime)
loans, the automated underwriting systems were designed to the specifications of
banks and financial institutions, and utilized by loan originators to originate more
loans as well as develop a database for the respective entities (NuMan). Subprime
loans by and large were issued without regard to what would happen if the
borrower could not repay the loan. Subprime loans commonly have adjustable rates
that have monthly payments that will dramatically increase two years after
receiving the loan. Subprime loans were usually classified as those where the
borrower had a FICO score below 640. Subprime loans can be based on credit
scores alone. On the homeowner s home loan application subprime loans would have
the option to use a stated income or even no income or asset verification at all.
Special terms usually accompany subprime loans, for example,
What Is The Importance Of Solubility In Salt Potassium...
Solubility is the property of a chemical substance, in any state, to dissolve within an
adequate solvent. Many chemical experiments in the lab will contain a solute in a
solvent, therefore important to know the exact reactions that will ensue. Symmetry
and polarity play crucial roles in the occurrence of solubility. A primary rule of like
dissolves like , describes how molecules with the same symmetry are more likely to
be soluble with each other. The same rule can be attributed to the tendencies of polar
versus nonpolar molecules.
A phase transfer reagent allows for the reactant to go from one phase to another. A
reaction takes place, allowing for insoluble ionic reactants to be soluble in organic
phase. Purification of a compound is also common practice and is most times done
by recrystallization. This is where the solute is dissolved in a solvent at ambient
temperature so that pure crystals form when cooled. With the case of an inorganic
salt potassium permanganate in an organic solvent, a phase stage reactant is often
used.
The largest form of experimental error for this experiment was that of approximation,
affecting solute solvent ratios and thus the ability for the solute to dissolve. Since
very few actual measurements were taken, it is possible that the solute was too
saturated for a reaction to occur within the amount of solvent added. This may have
then affected if the solute needed to have heat added in order for, in this case the
potassium permanganate,
Paradigms in The Big Lebowski Essay
Paradigms in The Big Lebowski The Big Lebowski
According to Robert B. Ray s The Thematic Paradigm, classical Hollywood
develops character(s that) magically embody diametrically opposite traits (299).
This method is used to appeal to a collective American imagination steeped in myths
of inclusiveness (299). In other words, characters that portray a wide variety of
traits, in many cases opposite traits, appeal to the American audience by embodying a
portion of each viewer in the character. This method is clearly portrayed through the
characters in the movie, The Big Lebowski.
The Big Lebowski, is about The Dude (Jeff Bridges), a down and out, unemployed
drifter who is still living in the haze of the 60s. Most of his time ... Show more content

The Dude finds out that the crooks are looking for Bunny Lebowski, The Big
Lebowski s wife, who owes a great deal of money to porn producer Jackie
Treehorn. Treehorn s men mistake The Dude for the The Big Lebowski and it
takes them a while to realize their error. After the crooks soil The Dude s carpet,
The Dude arranges a meeting with the Big Lebowski. However, rather than going
home with a new carpet, The Dude finds himself employed as the courier handling
the ransom for the Big Lebowski s kidnapped wife. However, Walter thinks The
Dude should keep the money. In a twist, Maude Lebowski, The Big Lebowski s
daughter, wants the money returned to her family. In the meantime the Dude s car is
stolen with the one million dollars in the back seat. To top matters off, there s some
question about whether Bunny is really in any danger.
In this movie, The Dude, embodies contradicting characteristics. At one point, he is
lazy, mellow, carefree, while at critical moments he is conscientious and assertive.
Throughout the movie glimpses of these traits are shown. The first scene for
instance, introduces us to the Dude, the bum. He is in a grocery store when he
opens a carton of milk, smells it, and then proceeds to drink it. Then when he is
checking out he writes a check for a total of .87 cents. This epitomizes the deadbeat.
We immediately see that the Dude cares
Video Games Positive And Negative Effects
Abstract In recent years, video games have played an important role in the field of
education and in treating psychological patients. Video games are a form of self
indulgence, which often provide unique and engaging environments that train
players to think fast and resourcefully. With the right design and mechanics, they
can facilitate learning and cognitive thinking in diverse levels .Computer games
can be used in children with mental health issues, psychological disorders and in
chronic disorders like diabetes, asthma or cancer. At the same time video games
also have negative effects which may decrease the IQ levels of children and may
become aggressive because of the violent games. Thus the video games have both
positive and negative effects. Keywords: Cognitive thinking, positive effects,
negative effects. DO VIDEO GAMES INCREASE/IMPROVE ONE S IQ
/INTELLIGENCE? Video games have become key factors in boosting children s
IQ to higher levels when compared to the previous generations, but video games are
frowned upon by parents as time wasters, and worse, some education experts think
that these games corrupt the brain. Playing violent video games are easily blamed
by the media and some experts as the reason why some young people become violent
or commit extreme anti social behavior. But many scientists and psychologists find
that video games can actually have many benefits the main one is making kids smart.
Video games may actually teach kids high level thinking skills
The Ratio Of The Lengths Changes
Question 1: What happens to the motion as the ratio of the lengths changes?
(Thinking)
If you decrease the length of the top one (L1) =0 then L2 becomes a simple pendulum
and undergoes simple harmonic motion.
If you increase L1 more, then l2 undergoes faster chaotic motion and if you decrease
the length, it will become less chaotic.
Question 2: At first glance, why does there appear to be much more energy in the
pendulum than was put into it when it was released? (Communication)
There are a few reasons why it seems like that.
First, the pendulum was started with a push rather than dropped, so that will put
more energy into the system than it perhaps seems like there should be.
Second, the lower the pendulum is, the less potential ... Show more content on

That is, when the long leg slows down just a little, there is enough energy for the
short leg to speed up quite a bit.
Question 3: After testing out the double pendulum, do you think the angle needed to
undergo simple harmonic motion would be a big or small? Why do you think it
occurs at a big or small angle? (Application)
For the double pendulum to undergo simple harmonic motion the angle needs to be
very small. Since the double pendulum s purpose is to undergo chaotic motion we
would need to let of the legs at an angle of 5 8 degrees. This is because the shorter
leg is very easy to spin and lose control of its motion. Letting go at a small angle will
not give it enough momentum or speed to undergo chaotic motion but it will
however, give it enough speed and momentum for both legs to undergo simple
harmonic motion.
Question 4: Ali lets go of the legs of a 543g double pendulum with a radius of 0.1 m
from a height of 0.3m and the velocity is 8 m/s. Calculate the centripetal acceleration
and gravitational potential energy. (Knowledge)
Gravitational Potential Energy Forces
This concept relates back to unit 2 where in class we discussed about gravitational
energy and power. The standard definition of a pendulum according to Webster is a
body suspended from a fixed support so that it swings freely back and forth under
the influence of gravity or another type of force.
Gilles De La Tourette Syndrome Analysis
Main Post Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome I chose this disease because I really don
t know very much about it and would like to learn more. Gilles de la Tourette
Syndrome (GTS) is defined as echolalia (imitating others), multiple tics (motor and
vocal), as well as coprolalia (spontaneous swearing). Neuropsychological disorders
associated with GTS are depression, obsessive compulsive behaviors, obsessive
compulsive disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Onset of GTS is
usually aged 5 to 18. In GTS, CT s and MRI s show reduced volume in the basal
ganglia with smaller volumes in the caudate nucleus. There is also a correlation
between adults and children with smaller volumes in the lenticular nucleus who have

The diagnosis of HD is relatively simple due to the distinct presentations. There are
four ways that each identifies this disease; family history (gene mutation specific is
responsible). Second, it is characterized neurologically because it is well studied with
the disease being principally in the basal ganglia where particular neuronal
populations die, particularly in caudate nucleus but most conspicuously in the
putamen. Thirdly, dementia is selective, more so than Alzheimer s and since HD
normally shows symptoms in an individual s 30 s and 40 s it differs from normal
aging brain changes. HD is clinically categorized into movement disorder, dementia
syndrome, and emotional issues such as apathy, depression and irritability (Grant and

Pros And Cons Of Walmart
In the following essay, I will state a few reasons why Wal Mart Stores Inc. is one of
the most detested companies in the United States. I believe it is more a love hate
relationship as long as numerous people are looking for the lowest price when they
consider buying anything and consequently, many people buy their things at Walmart.
Walmart is a price Maker. Accordingly, they can decide how much they want to pay
for a certain good and if it is still realistic they will find a producer or supplier. They
can order different suppliers to their headquarter and let them negotiate with each

Walmart tries to give the discount that they get to the customers. For Walmart, the

the employees it is unacceptable as they get not paid very well and various of them

WORMS LICE SCABIES, GROSSEST HEALTH ISSUES
WORMS LICE SCABIES, GROSSEST HEALTH ISSUES
Worms, lice and scabies are listed as infestation caused by large parasites which
attack human body for food, shelter and reproduction. Poor hygiene and
overcrowding are main causes for the infection. The best way to prevent parasitic
infestation is taking care of body hygiene, precaution while consuming food and
proper toileting procedures. Treatment consists of treating the affected individual and
his or her family members who share the house hold.
Let us now see each one of these grossest health issues separately.

How is it diagnosed?
The doctor sets the diagnoses depending on the signs and symptoms. He may do
some blood test, stool test or take a bit of tissue for checking. Some times he may
use X rays and ultrasonography to arrive at a diagnosis.
Who should be treated?
Mostly the affected person, if it is intestinal worm infestation it is better to treat the
entire family. How is it treated?
Once the doctor is sure of the type of worm infestation he gives oral tablets to
eradicate the worms from the body.
Lice Infestation (Pediculosis)
What is Pediculosis?
Medical term for lice infestation is Pediculosis. It is one of the oldest infestations
known to human. 10,000 years old fossil shows evidence of louse eggs. Like the
other infestation this also is a global health problem. Lice live on the body surface
such as the scalp, pubic hair or facial hair. It is endemic throughout the world, about
hundreds of million people world wide are affected at one time.
How does it spread?
It spreads from directly from one person even during ordinary activities such as
playing together, sharing of personal items like towel, pillows, bed sheet and combs.
What happens when the louse enters the host?
Louse pierces the scalp skin and feeds human blood. During the process of

Government Surveillance
Government Surveillance on Society
Our society is dystopian in that we are being watched by the government. The
government s surveillance ranges from cameras to electronics to even drones. We are
told that
this constant surveillance is for our safety and to make it a safe environment for us
because their
main reason is to protect us when in fact it may not be their true intentions. U.S.
police have been
asking for greater surveillance in order to keep pace with the technology use of
criminals.
Surveillance has been a problem in our society because people think that there s too
much
cameras and privacy invasion which it s not necessary. People feel like they are
constantly being
watched by the government with all the new technologies. This increase in
surveillance makes us
question if the government is collecting of information for their own good. After 9
/11, the day many people lost their loved ones or were injured in the terrorist
attack on United States, surveillance has been increased to try to prevent these type
of events
from ever happening again. On 9/11 two planes crashed into the twin towers where
thousands
were trapped, killed or were injured, this day has been an unforgettable moment
because from
that day forward United States was not the same. A way that the government tries to
prevent
these things from happening is by increasing surveillance, U.S. police have been
given greater
legal and procedural latitudes to conduct a wider
My first drum Essay
My First Drum

still have. It has white stripes that go vertically and it has two black remo pin strip
drum heads. Drumheads are the surface, which you strike with a drumstick to
produce a sound. The drum came with a pair of cheap plastic remo brand drumsticks.

kid s faces when I would be playing. My favorite audience was the kinder garden
students because I would play anything and they would like it.
I remember I would have to study a lot because if my grade went down I would get
grounded and my parents knew what to ground me with. My weak spot my silver
baby, my snare drum. One time I was grounded for a week for not going to church.
My parents would tease me with the drum they would leave it in my room. If I
would touch the drum I would get another week. So I would be there playing on a
pillow, but thanks to that pillow my hands got faster because I wouldn t bounce, I
would use my wrist.
I believe the greatest thing to ever happen to me was my snare drum, and I want to
thank my teacher, Mr. Cantu for teaching me the correct techniques and teaching me
how to practice. One thing that helps me in school was practicing because thanks to
that I learned how to manage my time in studying. As a student in college I go back
and I think about all the crazy times I had with my drum, and I enjoy thinking about
them. But thanks to my parents who

However, the man came and destroyed the house that was all part of the mouse s

Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The
Age...
Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art
and other media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the
Age of Mechanical Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the
transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin s concept of aura explains
why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect on
contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of
replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When
investigating how aura would be applied to the modern method of sharing images
through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st
century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas, images,
news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through
the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin
felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the
early 20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish
theory, and aesthetic principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The
Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art
with the introduction of technological methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin
used the idea of aura to center his arguments around. Aura, as defined by Benjamin
is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a distance, however
near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term exhibits
its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something
is perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site
that exemplifies the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website
and app that allows users to handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply
read others content, share their own, comment their ideas, or just merely read and
absorb. The unique aspect about Twitter is its retweet function. To retweet someone
is to simply share their post on one s own profile. The purpose is to share the

Eidson to take in fluids while sitting upright without having to sacrifice speed by

The Importance Of Historical Fiction
Historical Fiction has been around since the beginning of history. Historical Fiction is
always changing and adapting to the new history around us. Since time changes so
fast and so much, it is important to learn about the past. When learning about the past
it is less likely that one would repeat some of the same horrific actions that happened
in the past. Historical Fictionis important because it is the background information to
people s knowledge, it is important for the world to learn and know, and it should be
taught in schools to widen children s educationlevels. Without out all of these things
many people would not even bother with historical fiction. Since historyis always
changing it is very to tell a story about fictional events. Historical fiction is just like
that. Historical Fiction is a story told about an event perhaps fictional or real, and
about people also fiction or real. ( Phillpott, A History of Historical Fiction).
Historical fiction takes a piece of history and adds fiction story that people can
relate to. For many people when they read historical fiction it opens up an unknown
about history. When a new historical fiction book is read people can learn more
about a historical event that they might not have known about before. Reading
historical fiction can give them a new background knowledge. This then makes
people want to learn more about history and read more historical fiction. Historical
fiction is very important because it can bring
Freshman Literature
We may discover that the purpose literature has is for analysis only in such that all
writings that are created from literature is in fact, about the literature. However,
Lindemann, views the freshman composition course as an opportunity for the
students to enter into academic conversation, to prepare themselves for the type of
discourse found in the academy. Even though both Tate and Lindemann argue from
opposite ends of whether literature should or should not be a part of the freshman
composition I understand both views but I also recognize there is room for extending
each argument. Why not start with the end in mind, first?

Similarities And Differences In The Movie Shutter Island
Comparative Analysis Shutter Island vs Insomnia Shutter Island and Insomnia are
mystery thrillers which follow two detectives that are determined to solve the case
using their own techniques. Shutter Island is a classic, old fashioned thriller
directed by Martin Scorsese. The film is based in 1954 and follows a federal
marshal and his partner as they investigate the escape of a prisoner from a mental
facility. The federal Marshall suffers a series of hallucinations and distractions on his
path to uncovering the truth. Insomnia also follows a pair of detectives that suffer
their own set of distractions and hallucinations. The detectives are dispatched to a
small northern town where the sun never sets to investigate a murder of a teenager.
The movie also resembles a classic thriller filmthat is directed by Christopher Nolan.
Both films rely on a build up of suspense and tension to deliver a compelling story.
There are quite distinct similarities and differences in both films that are portrayed in
areas such as characterisation, cinematic effects and social issues. Shutter Island and
Insomnia use stylistic features to unpack the theme of appearance versus reality and
documents the effects of the psychological effects on the protagonists. Both films

similarities and differences can be seen in the portrayal of social issues, cinematic
techniques and characterisation. Shutter Island revolves around Teddy Daniels, the

there is a mystery to be solved. The movie takes the viewers on a psychological trip

MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP Bankruptcy and restructuring Introduction
Marvel entertainment group was started by Martin Goodman in 1939. It originally
was a comic book business, known as Marvel Comics now. We have no way to
forget the images of X men, Spider Man, and Thor. Marvel Entertainment Group has
had a glorious history, and a dominant position in the comic market. However, this
glorious empire regretfully elapsed in the end. The historical rise and fall influences
not only comic fans life, but most importantly to its investors and the financial
market. Here we discuss in detail about the reason Marvel file for bankruptcy, the

It means that the relieved debt burden could be ultimately offset by the prudent
acquisition. Marvel would be inevitable in crisis. Furthermore, the debt holders,
debt of whom would be transformed into equity, would not be fully paid off. After
the restructuring plan was announced, the stock price of Marvel plummeted. From
what was shown in Exhibit 3, Marvel s stock price continued to decline afterwards.
Under the downward pressure of share price, the value of the collateral shares for
the bonds are now much lower than it used to be at the time of the bonds being
issued. In other words, the new shares could now only cover partially the face
value of original bonds. For Carl Icahn, the largest unsecured debt holder who
would have to invest in the highly discounted share once the restructuring plan is
passed, whether or not its investment could be paid back would be doubtful.
Though Bear Stearns, a company who prepared financial projections for Marvel s
acquisition of Toy Biz, predicted modest growth for Marvel and significant growth
for Toy Biz, and that Marvel was valued more as a going concern, the argument of
Bear Stearns is questionable and hard to be guaranteed. Therefore, as Carl Icahn, we
would not vote for the proposed restructuring plan. Part 3 Evaluation
What Is Pharmacognosy
What is Pharmacognosy? Pharmacognosy is the investigation of medicines got from
common assets or natural resources. It is characterized as; пѓ The compound s

First, Do No Harm Essay
Textual Analysis: First, Do No Harm Patrick Patrick Dismuke was a young African
American boy, at the age of fifteen when the story starts, and a regular patient at
Hermann Hospital. Patrick was born with a severe case of Hirschsprung s disease, a
disorder of the digestive tract, and was unable to digest his food. Throughout Patrick
s life, he spent more days in the hospital than out and came to be quite comfortable
with the environment and staff at Hermann. Due to his disease his only way of
nutrition was through a feeding tube, unfortunately these tubes often got infected.
Since Patrick s immune system was also weak, the infections were almost as bad as
the disease itself. The doctors were forced to put the boy through surgery... Show

Luckily he made it off the operating table alive, despite the fact that the tube had
slipped too far. However, he was paralyzed on his left side and died a few weeks
later. The dilemma for ethics committees brought up by the story of Patrick is a
question of how much is too much. As technologies in the medical field continue
to advance, people can live substantially longer lives, but are they lives worth
living? Some people, like Patrick, don t think being paralyzed is a quality of life
worth living. Others, like Armando, refuse to be made DNR and cling to life even
if it consists of communicating by blinking of the eye. The questions raised in this
book are awful decisions that nobody should ever have to make. Whatever the
committees and doctors choose to do can keep patients alive and allow them to
have a low quality of live, be in constant pain and be a burden to society, or keep a
terminally ill patient comfortable until he or she has said their good byes and let
nature take its course. Another concern that an ethics committee must address is the
cost of care. Wealthy patients with health insurance are much more likely to be
welcomed into hospitals with open arms while patients without insurance are often
given poor medical care and sometimes even turned away. Hermann Hospital started
off as a charity hospital and was supposed to be widely available to the poor and
underprivileged. However as the initial funds started to deteriorate and the

Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran
s...
William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past
centuries but what distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached
the play. Hamlet without doubt is a troubled man overcome with the death of his
father and the discovery that us uncle now step father murdered his late father, the
king of Denmark. Kenneth Branaghs and Gregory Doran s portrayals of the famous
closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlets relationship with his mother
Gertrude.
Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink
and red to show happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a
child as it is often associated with the birth of boys in today s society. The only
exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His black clothing is not only used
as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way to represent
how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is
dressed neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to
describe Gertrude s position of power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress
represents purity and demonstrates how Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption
taking place in her kingdom.
On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues,
silvers and golds. The use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the
royal family has over themselves and society while the dark blue
The Long Term And Short Term Memory
According to philosopher psychologist William James, memory is a generalized
concept that encompasses the long term and short term memory. Kendra Cherry,
psychologist expert, defines long term memory as storage of information over an
extended period. (Cherry n.d.) An individual s long term memory is structured by a
semi permanent chemical and the anatomical hippocampus. The hippocampus is in
the center of both hemispheres of the brain and works in accordance with the
amygdala to allow information to be imported to form memories. In relation to her
research of the long term memory, Cherry also provided information on the
characterization of the short memory which is described as, the primary or active
memory that presently takes in information. (Cherry n.d.) The thalamus is a large
portion of a dual lobed mass of matter that is located under the cerebral cortex. An
individual s brain goes through three stages of the retention of information which are:
encoding, storage, and retrieval. Our brain codes information in three methods which
is through visual, acoustic, and semantic simulation. Encoding means that certain
signals are sent to the brain. Storage means that the brain is maintaining information
over time. Information is received through the working memory that consist of
auditory memory and spatial memory. (Morrin, n.d) Spatial memory captures the
visual aspects of the information being presented to the subject.
There are two types of rehearsals: maintenance
Examples Of Tension In Act 1 Scene 1
Every great scene as every movie or story follows a certain structure. Starting with
an introduction, continues with progressive middle, and ends with the climax.
Every character is coming into the scene with particular goals. These goals should
ultimately collide with goals of another character in order to make the scene
interesting. Changes in scenes and therefore changes in how the goals are being
pursued are called scene beats. Your story will capture audiences only, if you have
enough tension. Scene starts with Becca and Izzy. Becca comes through the door,
holding a crГЁme brulee and Izzy talks on the phone and from the conversation, is
obvious, she knew the woman she punched earlier. Becca s goal is to discover what
actually happened in the barand Izzy s goal is to avoid that conversation. Before
Becca confronts Izzy about the woman in a bar, they chatter for a little bit.... Show

Howie accused Becca of deleting his footage of Danny playing outside. Becca
defends herself and says she didn t. That s the first beat. Tension between them two
rises. The argument is moving towards a climax. Howie shifts his strategy and tries
to come up with some counter argument. He thinks of the morning when Becca tried
to find a number for a roof guy, but couldn t and kept pressing the screen. Argument
continues with series of counter arguments and then Howie again accuses Becca
from deleting the video on purpose to get rid of memories about Danny. Situation
changing action and second beat. Becca holds it together and Howie starts listing
things she did to delete Danny from their life. Third beat comes when Becca actually
admits the video was an accident. Revelation of new information happens. Argument
is over and for the first time we see Howie completely lose it and that s the end of the
scene. This argument clears the tension between Howie and Becca that was building
up throughout the story. They are both finally ready to move
Federal And State Judicial System
Around the world, courts make life changing decisions every day involving
individuals embroiled in various disputes and situations. These courts operate under
either a common or civil law framework. In the United States, the federal judicial
system governs the nation and each individual state, and each state has authority over
concerns that arise in its borders. The federal and state judicial systems use different
processes to select court judges, and the judicial system hears cases based on varying
criteria.
The Two Global Judicial Frameworks
Whether a court uses common law or civil law is ultimately determined by the court s
location. The United States and most territories formerly possessed by the British
Colonies practice common law, which has roots dating back to the Middle Ages.
With common law, judges hear cases and decide what ruling best serves the public s
interests. Once a judge makes a ruling, it is now a precedent that other judges and
lawyers will defer to when making future legal decisions. In common law practice,
there is not always a precedent that sets forth how a judge should handle a legal
matter; the judge decides which groups to protect, such as children or home buyers,
based on what will benefit society the most. When common court judges make a
ruling, they consider how the case outcome will affect the public. Finally, contract
law is not predefined in the common law system, which often results in extensive
contract language in an effort to prepare
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And The Prosperity
Workers
The Prosperity Workers
There are many types of people around the world who help others in the pursuit of
social justice. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and Wangari Maathai
are some of the type who were looking for justice, equality, and equal opportunities.
These human rights activists all fought for their rights and persisted in trying to make
a change in the world around them.
One of the most popular human rights activists who fought for racial equality,
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi would stop at no length to achieve this. Gandhi
developed his philosophy of Satyagraha, or resistance through non violent civil
disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and non whites.
Practices of Satyagraha included boycotts, protest marches, and fasts. He
encouraged others to defend their rights in this manner, and to work together to
end racial injustice in South Africa (Study Synce). One for encouraging people to
face their fears,Gandhi would let people get out of their comfort zones and fight
for what is theirs; With this, Gandhi would also have people who did not agree
with him. The author stated that Gandhi was sent to prison for 6 years, Gandhi had
been thrown off a train in South America because he was Indian, and had attempts
of assassination against him, the final one being successful from a Buddhist
extremist Nathuram Vinayak Godse (Sivananda). Even though Gandhi had faced
obstacles such as these, nevertheless, people still rallied to him and supported him
during troubling times, this would help Gandhi achieve racial justice. Gandhi s
firm and tenacious adherence to the cause of the poor, the downtrodden Harijans,
and the common man of the Indian village, is indeed worthy of emulation.
Through all the vicissitudes of time and power and fame, he kept before the vision
of the Indian Congress the fundamental purpose for which it came into being the
amelioration of the suffering of the poor. Uncrowned king of the land, he remained
a friend of the poor; he lived for them, moved among them as one of them, and
served them with all his heart. He saw God in them, and in their service wore out his
body (Sivananda). As seen from what Gandhi had done and how people were
inspired by him,
Wiesel s Life Is Beautiful
Night Analysis
Life is Beautiful is fictional account of the Holocaust that gives the story a comedic
twist, therefore making it seem less accurate and not as believable. Night is a first
person memoir of a real survivor of the Holocaust and gives the reader a more
informative true story. In our lifetime, high schoolers have never had to experience a
tragedy that affected us as much as the effect of the Holocaust. It is difficult for a
teenager from a small town in America to comprehend the mass murders that
occurred within the Holocaust. We acknowledge that it happened, yet cannot make
connections much further because it is difficult to comprehend the scale. Night is a

Students can connect to the experience better because Wiesel uses sensory words
to put us in his shoes, Monday went by like a small summer cloud, like a dream in
the first hours of dawn (Wiesel 18). Comparing the Holocaust to peaceful things that
are relatable seems like a terrible thing to do, but in actuality it makes everything
easier to connect to and want to understand more. He also does not alienate the
Jewish people and try to make them sound different than any of us, even when they
were being segregated and killed. He only mentions that everyone being killed in the
camps were Jews when it s talking about statistics or straight facts, but when
recounting his experience they are just people like the rest of us which makes it
easier for each of us to connect to the victims individually. Being high school
students, it is hard to connect to anything involving the Holocaust, but the way the
story is written we get more of a connection to the people inside the
Negative Impacts Of Landfills
Impacts of Landfills Impacts on the environment Landfills dumping can disrupt
natural processes on land and in the water. Dumping can interfere with proper
drainage of runoff. Areas are more susceptible to flooding when waste blocks 6
ravines, creeks, culverts, and drainage basins. In rural areas, burning at dump sites
can cause forest fires and severe erosion as fires burn away trees and undergrowth.
The run off from improper disposal of toxic substances such as motor oil or
household cleansers can contaminate lakes, streams, and drinking water supplies.
Dumping also has a negative impact on plants and wildlife. Many birds and small
animals die after ingesting or becoming entangled in debris. Fish and other aquatic
species are killed when decomposing litter and food wastes in streams deplete
oxygen supplies in the water. Refuse in a stream can also clog fish spawning areas.
Dumped appliances are not only an eyesore, but can also release toxic chemicals.
Refrigerators and freezers may release chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) into the air,
harming the earth s protective ozone layer. Improperly discarded appliances built
before 1979 may also leak polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) into the soil. According
to the EPA, PCBs can cause cancer, reproductive failure and hormone imbalances in
animals and humans, (Environmental Protection Agency, 2008). Impacts on human

Essay On Two State Solution
There has been a lot of discussion about whether the two state solution is a valuable
option. The two state solution is not a valuable option because it will not stop the
fighting between Arabs and Israelis. The two state solution has been constantly
talking about through the Arab Israeli conflict, yet no side can completely agree on
whether or not a two state solution is a valuable option. If both sides agreed that they
wanted a two state solution, the Palestinians and the Israelis would both be
guaranteed their own state located in Israel. In agreeing to this solution, Israelis would
get the right to security and the right to keep the country Jewish majority with a
democratic government style. The Palestinians would have the right to control their
own area with the way they see fit. There has not been any official agreement on

the fact of Israelis control of 100 percent of Palestinians is fundamentally why you

Gossip Girl And Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the agonizing romance between
Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. In eighteenth century class conscious
England, wealthy families married for money and a stable reputation. Many critics
argue that people no longer marry for money but instead for love. However, sugar
mommies, daddies, and babies are more prevalent in the twenty first century than is
publicly shown. Cecily von Ziegesar s Gossip Girl, originally chick literature turned
major drama television series, portrays the romantic struggles of Manhattan s East
Side upper class. Despite being set in the twenty first century, Gossip Girlis arguably
a more dramatic, high quality adaptation of Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice. Gossip
Girl, an American television drama, had six seasons, all told by the narrator
Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl runs a highly popular blog that gives the Upper East Side
adolescents little to no privacy. Serena van der Woodsen, one of the main
characters, had just returned to Manhattan for high school classes at the Constance
Billard School for Girls and St. Jude s School for Boys. Serena s best friend Blair
Waldorf is queen bee of the Constance Billard School for Girls, and throughout the
seasons, Blair, Serena, and younger classmates fight for the queen bee status.

Containment as U.S. Policy During Cold War Era
Containment as U.S. policy during Cold War Era
From after World War II and up until 1991 the foreign policy of the United States
was based on Cold War ideology and the policy of containment; to prevent nations
from leaning towards Soviet Union based communism, as first laid out by George
Kennan and later used as one of the key principles in the Truman Doctrine (LeCain).
As this essay will argue, because of this policy the United States made a commitment
to fight communism everywhere in the world and got them involved in conflicts
more because of self interest, self protection and determination to beat communism
than the cause itself. The fear of communism first emerged after the Soviet
Revolution in 1917 during the First Red Scare in ... Show more content on

Even though President Truman had developed the policy of containment and gone
to war in Korea to fight against communism, Senator McCarthy continued to attack
the President calling him a son of a bitch (LeCain) and referred to Truman s and
Roosevelt s Democratic administrations as twenty years of treason (Maier 815).
Americans grew impatient due to the Korean conflict and McCarthy fueled the
already angry and frustrated American voters and in 1952 Dwight D. Eisenhower
was elected president. President Eisenhower hinted that if the North Koreans did
not come to the peace table, the United States might use atomic weapons (LeCain).
Offering the same terms as President Truman did, Eisenhower was able to make the
Chinese and North Koreans sign a peace treaty on July 27th 1953 (Maier 815). With
Eisenhower as president Senator McCarthy s days were numbered (Fried 132), the
massive defense budget would be reduced, but it did not have an effect on American
Cold War policy (Brands 43). Eisenhower was a moderate Republican (LeCain) and
he did not attempt to cut the New Deal programs, but wanted to reduce the budget.
Six weeks after Eisenhower enters office, Stalin dies. This offered a possibility in
reductions in defense expenditures, thus reducing the budget (Brands 41). The change
of leadership in both Washington and Moscow made Winston Churchill advocate a

The Ted talks I decided to analyze for this assignment all focused on environmentally

was easy to connect the quality of environment to quality of health and living

Essay On Rubik s Cube
Background Rubik s cube is a toy puzzle designed by Ernö Rubik during the mid
1970s. It is a cube shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6
faces possessing contrasting colors. This rather primitive looking phenomenon
was exceptionally popular during the 1980s, and peaking in 1980 and 1983 with
around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even sales today continue to exceed
500,000 sales worldwide each year, consequently earning the title the best selling

brilliance is perceived to reside in its ability to embody and symbolize the evident

bewilderment and comprehension, as Ernö remarks.(Davis) Comparably, these traits

Christianity.Once Paul became blind and was told to go to the city where he would
meet Ananias who was justifiably scared of him. With caution Ananias took Paul in
and cured his temporary blindness. Later Paul went to a church and met Barnabas
who he was sent out with to do missionary work. Both stayed together for a while
but then had a falling out. Paul went on three missions trips one with Barnabas, one
with Silas (later adding Timothy and Luke) and the last one with his team. Timothy
became one of the team leaders out of Paul s team and that is why he was trusted to
do run the church Paul was at before he
Hyundai Market Strategy
Introduction Hyundai automotive distributors were established in 1967. The
company has displayed a high level of commitment to southern Africa s future from
both an economic and political point of view. There are many different types of
market entry strategies that may be implemented by a foreign firm in an emerging
country. Amongst the most popular are: 1. Portfolio Investment; 2. Export 3.
Franchising 4. Licensing 5. Shared Equity/ Joint Venture The initial market entry
strategy implemented by Hyundai Korea was a joint venture. However, after
liquidation (1999), the new entry strategy for re establishment was franchising. The
aim of this paper is to show how Hyundai can reposition its operational strategy
utilising a management... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a joint venture can have a limited life span and only cover part of
what you do, thus limiting both your commitment and the business exposure. In the
era of diversification and consolidation, JV s offer a creative way for companies to
exit from non core businesses. Companies can gradually separate a business from
the rest of the organisation, and eventually, sell it to the other parent company.
Roughly 80% of all joint ventures end in a sale by one partner to the other. The
Disadvantages of Joint Ventures It takes time and effort to build the right relationship
and partnering with another business can be challenging. Problems are likely to
arise if: The objectives of the venture are not 100 per cent clear and communicated to
everyone involved. There is an imbalance in levels of expertise, investment or assets
brought into the venture by the different partners. Different cultures and management
styles result in poor integration and co operation. The partners don t provide enough
leadership and support in the early stages. Success in a joint venture depends on
thorough research and analysis of the objectives. From the above discussion as well
as the list of advantages and disadvantages associated with joint ventures it can be
seen that Hyundai should
What Is Pythias A Tyrant
The story of Damon and Pythias is a perfect example of what the highest point of
what friendship can be. The story also shows what a tyrant is by the series of
events that occur within the story. In addition the story so far is about two
noblemen named Damon and Pythias, they are what it means to have a perfect
friendship. They would risk their life for each other in any given situation. Then the
worst of them all occurs, King Dionysius a treacherous ruler who fits the
description of what a tyrant is has a dream that Pythias is going to overthrow him
from his title as king. Pythias was accused of trying to overthrow King Dionysius
with no way to prove his innocence to the king s liking, and was then sentenced to
death. The king was going to
A Study On American Sign Language ( Asl )
The area of focus for this study is memory development, and the use of gestures,
specifically signing, in aiding memory development. Gesturing has traditionally been
considered communicative, but has also been shown to aid learning when used as a
teaching strategy. Signing is a type of gesture used as a form of communication. The
focus of this study will be on American Sign Language(ASL). The purpose of this
study is to test the effects of actively signing while performing a visual spatial
memory task. Gesturing has long been seen as a teaching technique for more visual
learners. A study by Cook et al. (2008) looked at the use of gestures in promoting
learning and lasting memory. To investigate this issue, researchers experimentally
manipulated children s gesture during instruction in a new mathematical concept.
Eighty four children in the third and fourth grade were recruited to be participants in
the study. The study found that requiring children to gesture while learning the new
concept helped them retain the knowledge they had gained during instruction. In
contrast, children who were required to speak but not gesture while learning the
concept saw no effect on solidifying learning. The results of this study are significant
because they found correlation between gesturing while learning and retaining
information for a longer period of time. However, this study only looked at the effects
on learning when the teacher gestures, not when the learner is
God By Simon Blackburn God Analysis
In this text titled GOD by Simon Blackburn, the protagonist agues of beliefs and
other things. I am going to argue that there does not exist a super or godlike being
who is all good, all knowing, all powerful. (40 words) In the text titled The problem
of Evil, Blackburn infers that god is not fit to be worshipped and should not be the
origin principle of right and wrong. Godsupposedly has perfect morals and is
infinite in power allowing him to accomplish anything he desires. God is an all
powerful, all knowing, and an all caring god. However, the idea of God being all of
those things seems to be contradictory. The existence of poverty, lust, envy, and other
vices points to inconsistencies in the idea that God is almighty. The greatness... Show

Being all powerful means he can execute and accomplish any given task, meaning
God in truth can fix and change anything and everything for the better. And if God
is all knowing, then God should already know the outcome and destination of
every single individual in the world. Lastly, if God is all caring then he is looking
for our best interest. God wants us to live comfortably among each other. And if
we do in truth live comfortably and everyone lives comfortably among one another
then. It would enable a world where wars are extinguished, along with crime and
poverty. But that is not the case. God willingly watch us live our lives miserably in
an even more miserable world. A world where humans, animals are placed in a
chain; where our very own survival is based upon fitness. So in actuality this
happens to be false, and if this is false then god is not genuinely all caring. If god is
actually all knowing, all powerful, all caring, he would do something about this. He
has the power to intervene and change things but for reasons unknown chooses
otherwise
Furthermore, god is supposedly full of wisdom, his wisdom is infinite, yet the
world lacks heavily. One way this can be viewed is with nature, how nature scarcely
tends to the need of human and animal happiness. One question that one may ask is
can and is god able to prevent evil? Does he have what it takes; maybe god is
impotent (lacking power, strength). According

Some people hear reassuring, neutral voices.
Delusions these are false beliefs that aren t based in reality.
Disorganized thinking (speech) disorganized thinking is inferred from disorganized
speech. Effective communication can be impaired, and answers to questions may be
partially or completely unrelated. Rarely, speech may include putting together
meaningless words that can t be understood, sometimes known as salad.
Extremely disorganized or abnormal motor behavior this may show in a number of
ways, from childlike silliness to unpredictable agitation. Behavior isn t focused on a
goal, so it s hard to do tasks. Behavior can include resistance to instructions,
inappropriate or bizarre posture, complete lack of response, or useless and excessive
movement.
Negative symptoms this refers to reduce or lack of ability to function normally e.g.
the person may neglect personal hygiene or appear to lack emotion (doesn t make
eye contact, doesn t change facial expressions or speaks monotone). Also, the person
may have lost interests in everyday activities. Socially withdraw or lack the ability to
experience pleasure.
Symptoms in Teens
Teens will:
Withdraw themselves from friends and family
Have a dropped performance in schooling
Be in an irritated or depressed mood
Have lack of motivation
Compared with schizophrenia symptoms in adults, teens may be:
Less likely to have delusions
Business Texting
Reach Customers Easy and Fast with Business Texting
According to Forbes Magazine, mobile marketing is the future of customer
communication. Forbes cites that over 80 percent of adults own a phone and over
90 percent of adults keep their phone within arm s reach. In fact, over half of mobile
searches lead to a sale. Therefore, business texting is essential to business success.
Here are three reasons why business texting is critical to your marketing plan. http:/

marketing facts/ Business Texting is Optional
Mass marketing relies on the principles of saturating a target demographic or random
members of the public with advertising. However, business texting is an opt in
service. That is, consumers voluntarily provide their phone number and are free to
opt out at any time. Therefore, the target audience will be consumers who are already
familiar with the product or service. As a result, you can reduce wasted marketing
costs while accurately reaching your target market. Keep in mind that business
texting will always rely on traditional advertising forms to establish and maintain and
customer texting database.

When it comes to email, consumers are tired of dealing with spam and banner ads.
Since texting spam is still in the infancy stage, phone users aren t as jaded as they
are compared with traditional email. In addition to this, text messages are quicker,
shorter and easier to read. Keep in mind that 25 percent of adults only have a
smartphone to access the Internet. Therefore, the conversion process and rates for a
business text is much higher. Business texting is also an excellent opportunity to
directly engage consumers in conversation while improving the Customer

Mass Shootings In Switzerland
Many people in the U.S. feel that guns are a problem there. People may believe this
because of all the mass shootings or murders. But on the other side there are those
who believe that it is not the guns that are causing the problems, the problem is the
people behind the guns that have not been properly trained on how to properly
handle and fire a firearm, but most importantly they have not learned how to
respect them. If they were taught how to respect them, we had a different
viewpoint, and a few laws were passed, most of the mass shootings and murders
would decrease. To lower the mass shootings and murders, people could start
learning how to properly use a firearm. Men commit about 98% of mass shootings,
while women commit about 11% of all murders. Switzerland has not had a mass
shooting since 2001, killing 14 people, and then the shooter making 15 deaths.
Switzerland has held a shooting contest for kids ages 13 17 since the 1600 s. In
the contest they use Swiss military service rifles. Switzerland has a mandatory
military service for men, unlike the U.S.. All men between the ages 18 34 deemed
fit for service are given a pistol or rifle and trained how to use that firearm. And over
time of training, the person will most likely start to learn to respect that firearm....

After the men have finished their military service, they typically buy and keep their
service weapons, but they have to get a permit for them in order to keep it. In 2000
more than 25% of Swiss gun owners said they kept there weapons for military or
police duty while less than 5% of American gun owners said the same about their
weapons. In 2007, the small arms survey found that Switzerland had the third highest
ratio of civilian firearms per 100 residents (46:100), beat by only the U.S. (89:100),

Rush Week Essay
During rush week, I was required to talk to potential new members for my
fraternity. I had many conversations with freshman and a couple of sophomores is
one big group. The PNMs and I discussed a wide range of topics. One particular guy I
was talking to was actually a friend of mine who was the only sophomore at the rush
events. He and I talked about how great our freshman year was and how much we
hated a certain person.
In our main conversation, we discussed about how he wanted to be a part of a bigger
idea and fortunately our mutual friend referred him to my fraternity. My friend told
me how he doesn t want join a fraternity that hazes their new members. He also
wanted to join because our Fraternity prioritizes school first. Fortunately, his ambition

He wasn t straying away at all he stood in place and paid attention to what I was
saying and then waited for me to finish my sentence. I made sure I did the same for
him and not disrupt his story. I was actually intrigued at some of the stories
pertaining why disliked this girl we hated on. In terms of emotion, there was a
variety of emotions actually displayed in our conversations from both sides. We
both have displayed disgust, happiness, neutral, excitement, and frustration. When
we talked about the girl we hated he displayed all of the emotions listed above
except happiness. I did the same depending on his stories. Our show of happiness
and excitement were displayed when we both discovered that we both hate a
particular girl and that he was rushing my Fraternity. Disgust and excitement was
displayed when he and I exchanged stories of our freshman year.
This conversation alone made me realize the many elements that are shown in a
simple task that I was require to do. This conversation was not even a political
debate it was literally two friends getting to know each other more at a rush
System And Oppression Of The Panopticon
2.3.2. Panoptical System and Oppression The Panopticon was a metaphor that
allowed Foucault to show the relationship between the people in a disciplinary
situation and the systems of social control. From his view, the concept of power
/knowledge comes from observing others. Michel Foucault is one of the European
philosopher/historian who wrote prodigiously and influentially on the origins or
archaeology of European social orders since the seventeenth century. For
understanding of his work on social control is central to Siberian section of Nights
at the Circus, especially chapter 3 and 4 show the escape of a group of prisoners.
Social order is considered by Foucault through institutional practice or discourse that

They are like so many cages, so many small theaters, in which each actor is alone,
perfectly individualized and constantly visible. The panoptic mechanism arranges
spatial unities that make it possible to see constantly and to recognize immediately.
In short it reverses the principle of the dungeon; or rather three of its functions to
enclose, to deprive of light and to hide it preserves only the first and eliminates the
other two. Full lighting and the eye of a supervisor capture better than darkness,
which ultimately protected. Visibly is a trap. Carter shows this theatrical when she
describes the hours of darkness in the female penitentiary during which the cell
were lit up like so many small theatres in which each actor sat by herself in the trap
of her visibility (ch.3, p.211). According to Foucault s observation through
Bentham, power is always visible and unverifiable because the system of structure
ensures that prisoners will always fell they may be being watched by invisible
bystander but can never be sure whether the invisible viewer is watching them or
not. The observer s invisibility combined with the Fictitious perception of total
visibility amongst the observed that acts as a guarantee of order .* Fictional rhetoric

At 10:00 we got on our plane to head to Fort Myers, Florida. The plane ride was long
and tiring, and on the plane I was sitting next to a very nice lady while I was doing
my homework.
Do you need to turn on the lights? she asked.
No I m okay, I replied. Thank you though. We went on with the rest of our plane
ride. Before landing our pilot did a little overview of the ocean and Florida, even
though we couldn t see, the lights from Florida looked amazing! When we got off
the plane and everyone was tired at 2:00 in the morning and we got our rental car
and headed off to the hotel. Of course we jumped in bed when we got there and slept
until morning.
The first day in Florida was really exciting for me because I ve never been there and
it was a first time experience with Florida. We went to go get breakfastand I saw the
lady that was on the plane with me there! After breakfast we decided to meet up
with family that stayed in Florida and we went to some shops and explored around
the city. The weather in Florida was kind of chilly that day so we didn t get to do
much. After that we went to go eat, then went back to the hotel. At the hotel we all
decided to go out to the pool. We put on our swimming suits and headed downstairs
to the nice outdoor pool. After a while we went inside and watched Netflix on our
phones while some of us slept. The next day was kind of a random day. We drove
Japan In One Of The Most Beautiful Countries In East...
Japan in one of the most beautiful countries in East Asia. Their lifestyle is truly
amazing. Some of the most interesting things about Japan is their history, culture
environment, foods, traditions, education, and government is well put together.
Japan is a country that no one else could replicate. They will always be that way.
No matter what. Below you will read about why this is true and how it continues to
be that way. Japan is definitely one country i would love to attend. It s quite the

Hawaii. The date of the attack is December 7, 1941. The location of the attack was on

Education Education in Japan is very similar to the US. Their curriculum is based
off the Ministry of Education, Culture,Sports,, Science and Technology. Most of the

Arlington s Journey
I believe that giving is greater than receiving. Being able to live in Johnson County
is a blessing. We have polite neighbors, clean streets, and fresh water. This past
spring break I was fortunate enough to travel to Arlington, Texas, with my youth
group from my church. As a group, this would be our second time traveling to
Arlington for a mission purpose. As an individual, Arlington changed me. When
my youth group is traveling a long distance, we rent a couple of twelve passenger
vans. Driving to Arlington takes about ten hours, including bathroom stops and
lunch breaks. Every time my youth leader tells the group to go to the bathroom, no
one listens. That is because we are teenagers and do not have the best listening
skills. One teen needed to take a whiz and could not hold it for much longer. His
solution was to relieve himself into a water bottle. This would be an interesting trip
for every single one of us. Arriving in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

She told me all she knew about Jesus. Surprisingly, Tiffany knew a majority of the
bible stories I was telling her. Apparently this was not the first time a church had
ministered to her apartment complex. We provided Rainbow Express for kids of
all ages. We had a few babies and a couple teenagers showing up during the week.
Despite the age gap, we did our best to involve everyone. Even though these kids
are experiencing rough times, they still emit more loving energy than expected.
These kids love you as if you are their long lost sibling. They were not afraid to
sprint up to us with their arms wide open. Mission Arlington shows me how to love
people you have only known for a week. This mission trip transformed me on how I
perceive life at home. Even though my youth group and I are back home, we still
think about the children at Eagle Crest quite often. We will return to Arlington next
year for the third

  • 2. A Note On Subprime Loans Recent mayhem in the American economy attributed to a weakening of business regulation. In the absence of oversight, lending became a wildcat enterprise. Mortgage brokers easily deceived home buyers by promoting subprime loans, and then they passed on bundled documents to unwary investors. These subprime loans were offered at a rate above prime to individuals who did not qualify for prime rate loans. The loans were made to people who had no other way to access funds, and little understanding of the mechanics of the loan. A scholarly document on subprime lendingby Hanif NuMan warns, Servicing prime and alternative A (not subprime) loans, the automated underwriting systems were designed to the specifications of banks and financial institutions, and utilized by loan originators to originate more loans as well as develop a database for the respective entities (NuMan). Subprime loans by and large were issued without regard to what would happen if the borrower could not repay the loan. Subprime loans commonly have adjustable rates that have monthly payments that will dramatically increase two years after receiving the loan. Subprime loans were usually classified as those where the borrower had a FICO score below 640. Subprime loans can be based on credit scores alone. On the homeowner s home loan application subprime loans would have the option to use a stated income or even no income or asset verification at all. Special terms usually accompany subprime loans, for example,
  • 3. What Is The Importance Of Solubility In Salt Potassium... Solubility is the property of a chemical substance, in any state, to dissolve within an adequate solvent. Many chemical experiments in the lab will contain a solute in a solvent, therefore important to know the exact reactions that will ensue. Symmetry and polarity play crucial roles in the occurrence of solubility. A primary rule of like dissolves like , describes how molecules with the same symmetry are more likely to be soluble with each other. The same rule can be attributed to the tendencies of polar versus nonpolar molecules. A phase transfer reagent allows for the reactant to go from one phase to another. A reaction takes place, allowing for insoluble ionic reactants to be soluble in organic phase. Purification of a compound is also common practice and is most times done by recrystallization. This is where the solute is dissolved in a solvent at ambient temperature so that pure crystals form when cooled. With the case of an inorganic salt potassium permanganate in an organic solvent, a phase stage reactant is often used. The largest form of experimental error for this experiment was that of approximation, affecting solute solvent ratios and thus the ability for the solute to dissolve. Since very few actual measurements were taken, it is possible that the solute was too saturated for a reaction to occur within the amount of solvent added. This may have then affected if the solute needed to have heat added in order for, in this case the potassium permanganate,
  • 4. Paradigms in The Big Lebowski Essay Paradigms in The Big Lebowski The Big Lebowski According to Robert B. Ray s The Thematic Paradigm, classical Hollywood develops character(s that) magically embody diametrically opposite traits (299). This method is used to appeal to a collective American imagination steeped in myths of inclusiveness (299). In other words, characters that portray a wide variety of traits, in many cases opposite traits, appeal to the American audience by embodying a portion of each viewer in the character. This method is clearly portrayed through the characters in the movie, The Big Lebowski. The Big Lebowski, is about The Dude (Jeff Bridges), a down and out, unemployed drifter who is still living in the haze of the 60s. Most of his time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dude finds out that the crooks are looking for Bunny Lebowski, The Big Lebowski s wife, who owes a great deal of money to porn producer Jackie Treehorn. Treehorn s men mistake The Dude for the The Big Lebowski and it takes them a while to realize their error. After the crooks soil The Dude s carpet, The Dude arranges a meeting with the Big Lebowski. However, rather than going home with a new carpet, The Dude finds himself employed as the courier handling the ransom for the Big Lebowski s kidnapped wife. However, Walter thinks The Dude should keep the money. In a twist, Maude Lebowski, The Big Lebowski s daughter, wants the money returned to her family. In the meantime the Dude s car is stolen with the one million dollars in the back seat. To top matters off, there s some question about whether Bunny is really in any danger. In this movie, The Dude, embodies contradicting characteristics. At one point, he is lazy, mellow, carefree, while at critical moments he is conscientious and assertive. Throughout the movie glimpses of these traits are shown. The first scene for instance, introduces us to the Dude, the bum. He is in a grocery store when he opens a carton of milk, smells it, and then proceeds to drink it. Then when he is checking out he writes a check for a total of .87 cents. This epitomizes the deadbeat. We immediately see that the Dude cares
  • 5. Video Games Positive And Negative Effects Abstract In recent years, video games have played an important role in the field of education and in treating psychological patients. Video games are a form of self indulgence, which often provide unique and engaging environments that train players to think fast and resourcefully. With the right design and mechanics, they can facilitate learning and cognitive thinking in diverse levels .Computer games can be used in children with mental health issues, psychological disorders and in chronic disorders like diabetes, asthma or cancer. At the same time video games also have negative effects which may decrease the IQ levels of children and may become aggressive because of the violent games. Thus the video games have both positive and negative effects. Keywords: Cognitive thinking, positive effects, negative effects. DO VIDEO GAMES INCREASE/IMPROVE ONE S IQ /INTELLIGENCE? Video games have become key factors in boosting children s IQ to higher levels when compared to the previous generations, but video games are frowned upon by parents as time wasters, and worse, some education experts think that these games corrupt the brain. Playing violent video games are easily blamed by the media and some experts as the reason why some young people become violent or commit extreme anti social behavior. But many scientists and psychologists find that video games can actually have many benefits the main one is making kids smart. Video games may actually teach kids high level thinking skills
  • 6. The Ratio Of The Lengths Changes Question 1: What happens to the motion as the ratio of the lengths changes? (Thinking) If you decrease the length of the top one (L1) =0 then L2 becomes a simple pendulum and undergoes simple harmonic motion. If you increase L1 more, then l2 undergoes faster chaotic motion and if you decrease the length, it will become less chaotic. Question 2: At first glance, why does there appear to be much more energy in the pendulum than was put into it when it was released? (Communication) There are a few reasons why it seems like that. First, the pendulum was started with a push rather than dropped, so that will put more energy into the system than it perhaps seems like there should be. Second, the lower the pendulum is, the less potential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is, when the long leg slows down just a little, there is enough energy for the short leg to speed up quite a bit. Question 3: After testing out the double pendulum, do you think the angle needed to undergo simple harmonic motion would be a big or small? Why do you think it occurs at a big or small angle? (Application) For the double pendulum to undergo simple harmonic motion the angle needs to be very small. Since the double pendulum s purpose is to undergo chaotic motion we would need to let of the legs at an angle of 5 8 degrees. This is because the shorter leg is very easy to spin and lose control of its motion. Letting go at a small angle will not give it enough momentum or speed to undergo chaotic motion but it will however, give it enough speed and momentum for both legs to undergo simple harmonic motion. Question 4: Ali lets go of the legs of a 543g double pendulum with a radius of 0.1 m from a height of 0.3m and the velocity is 8 m/s. Calculate the centripetal acceleration and gravitational potential energy. (Knowledge) Gravitational Potential Energy Forces This concept relates back to unit 2 where in class we discussed about gravitational energy and power. The standard definition of a pendulum according to Webster is a body suspended from a fixed support so that it swings freely back and forth under the influence of gravity or another type of force.

Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome (GTS) is defined as echolalia (imitating others), multiple tics (motor and vocal), as well as coprolalia (spontaneous swearing). Neuropsychological disorders associated with GTS are depression, obsessive compulsive behaviors, obsessive compulsive disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I believe it is more a love hate relationship as long as numerous people are looking for the lowest price when they consider buying anything and consequently, many people buy their things at Walmart. Walmart is a price Maker. Accordingly, they can decide how much they want to pay for a certain good and if it is still realistic they will find a producer or supplier. Forasmuch, the suppliers have then usually a very small profit margin, but a lot of sales. Nevertheless, Walmart tries to give the discount that they get to the customers. For Walmart, the saving pressure is helpful to grow, make more profit and being successful, but for the employees it is unacceptable as they get not paid very well and various of them do not get a health insurance. The salary of a normal working person at Walmart is not enough to have enough money for themselves and one child. That might result in dissatisfaction and they are less motivated in their work. The customers are treated worse and it is often dirty what could be another reason to hate the

  • 12. Government Surveillance Government Surveillance on Society Our society is dystopian in that we are being watched by the government. The government s surveillance ranges from cameras to electronics to even drones. We are told that this constant surveillance is for our safety and to make it a safe environment for us because their main reason is to protect us when in fact it may not be their true intentions. U.S. police have been asking for greater surveillance in order to keep pace with the technology use of criminals. Surveillance has been a problem in our society because people think that there s too much cameras and privacy invasion which it s not necessary. People feel like they are constantly being watched by the government with all the new technologies. This increase in surveillance makes us question if the government is collecting of information for their own good. After 9 /11, the day many people lost their loved ones or were injured in the terrorist attack on United States, surveillance has been increased to try to prevent these type of events from ever happening again. On 9/11 two planes crashed into the twin towers where thousands were trapped, killed or were injured, this day has been an unforgettable moment because from that day forward United States was not the same. A way that the government tries to prevent these things from happening is by increasing surveillance, U.S. police have been given greater legal and procedural latitudes to conduct a wider

It was a blue plastic remo drum that I love and I still have. It has white stripes that go vertically and it has two black remo pin strip drum heads. Drumheads are the surface, which you strike with a drumstick to produce a sound. The drum came with a pair of cheap plastic remo brand drumsticks. That I hardly use became if I do, I would probably break the drumsticks. My favorite audience was the kinder garden students because I would play anything and they would like it. I remember I would have to study a lot because if my grade went down I would get grounded and my parents knew what to ground me with. My weak spot my silver baby, my snare drum. One time I was grounded for a week for not going to church. My parents would tease me with the drum they would leave it in my room. If I would touch the drum I would get another week. So I would be there playing on a pillow, but thanks to that pillow my hands got faster because I wouldn t bounce, I would use my wrist. I believe the greatest thing to ever happen to me was my snare drum, and I want to thank my teacher, Mr. Cantu for teaching me the correct techniques and teaching me how to practice. • 17. Analysis Of Walter Benjamin s The Work Of Art In The Age... Walter Benjamin s work on the concept of aura has clarified and elucidated why art and other media are perceived the way they are. Benjamin s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction provides an in depth insight as to the transformation of art in this new modern world. Benjamin s concept of aura explains why the new age of technological mass reproduction has had such an effect on contemporary and classic art. He argues that with easily accessible methods of replication, the artwork simply loses its uniqueness and individuality. When investigating how aura would be applied to the modern method of sharing images through a site such as Twitter, an interesting conversation emerges. Twitter is a 21st century social networking site used by millions in which users share ideas, images, news, etc. with one another. The way in which Twitter users sabotage aura through the utilization of images and content is in alignment with the way Walter Benjamin felt about reproductions. Walter Benjamin, a German Jew who lived during the early 20th century, often combined elements of Marxism, German idealism, Jewish theory, and aesthetic principles into his work. One of his most famous essays, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, focused on discernment of art with the introduction of technological methods of rapidly reproducing it. Benjamin used the idea of aura to center his arguments around. Aura, as defined by Benjamin is A strange tissue of space and time: the unique apparition of a distance, however near it may be (Benjamin 23) The somewhat cryptic description of this term exhibits its quite enigmatic meaning. Aura, in simple terms, is the way in which something is perceived in relation to its environment and its character. A social networking site that exemplifies the evolution of aura is Twitter. Twitter is a 21st century website and app that allows users to handle content in any way they desire. Users can simply read others content, share their own, comment their ideas, or just merely read and absorb. The unique aspect about Twitter is its retweet function. To retweet someone is to simply share their post on one s own profile. The purpose is to share the original post with

Since time changes so fast and so much, it is important to learn about the past. When learning about the past it is less likely that one would repeat some of the same horrific actions that happened in the past. Historical Fictionis important because it is the background information to people s knowledge, it is important for the world to learn and know, and it should be taught in schools to widen children s educationlevels. Without out all of these things many people would not even bother with historical fiction. Since historyis always changing it is very to tell a story about fictional events. Historical fiction is just like that. Historical Fiction is a story told about an event perhaps fictional or real, and about people also fiction or real. ( Phillpott, A History of Historical Fiction). Historical fiction takes a piece of history and adds fiction story that people can relate to. For many people when they read historical fiction it opens up an unknown about history. When a new historical fiction book is read people can learn more about a historical event that they might not have known about before. Reading historical fiction can give them a new background knowledge. This then makes people want to learn more about history and read more historical fiction. Historical fiction is very important because it can bring

From what was shown in Exhibit 3, Marvel s stock price continued to decline afterwards. Under the downward pressure of share price, the value of the collateral shares for the bonds are now much lower than it used to be at the time of the bonds being issued. In other words, the new shares could now only cover partially the face value of original bonds. For Carl Icahn, the largest unsecured debt holder who would have to invest in the highly discounted share once the restructuring plan is passed, whether or not its investment could be paid back would be doubtful. Though Bear Stearns, a company who prepared financial projections for Marvel s acquisition of Toy Biz, predicted modest growth for Marvel and significant growth for Toy Biz, and that Marvel was valued more as a going concern, the argument of Bear Stearns is questionable and hard to be guaranteed. As technologies in the medical field continue to advance, people can live substantially longer lives, but are they lives worth living? Some people, like Patrick, don t think being paralyzed is a quality of life worth living. Others, like Armando, refuse to be made DNR and cling to life even if it consists of communicating by blinking of the eye. The questions raised in this book are awful decisions that nobody should ever have to make. Another concern that an ethics committee must address is the cost of care. • 26. Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran s... William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is a troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step father murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branaghs and Gregory Doran s portrayals of the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlets relationship with his mother Gertrude. Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated with the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is dressed neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe Gertrude s position of power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and demonstrates how Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom. On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds. The use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves and society while the dark blue

Kendra Cherry, psychologist expert, defines long term memory as storage of information over an extended period. (Cherry n.d.) An individual s long term memory is structured by a semi permanent chemical and the anatomical hippocampus. The hippocampus is in the center of both hemispheres of the brain and works in accordance with the amygdala to allow information to be imported to form memories. In relation to her research of the long term memory, Cherry also provided information on the characterization of the short memory which is described as, the primary or active memory that presently takes in information. (Cherry n.d.) The thalamus is a large portion of a dual lobed mass of matter that is located under the cerebral cortex. An individual s brain goes through three stages of the retention of information which are: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Our brain codes information in three methods which is through visual, acoustic, and semantic simulation. Encoding means that certain signals are sent to the brain. Storage means that the brain is maintaining information over time. Information is received through the working memory that consist of auditory memory and spatial memory. (Morrin, n.d) Spatial memory captures the visual aspects of the information being presented to the subject. There are two types of rehearsals: maintenance

  • 29. Federal And State Judicial System Around the world, courts make life changing decisions every day involving individuals embroiled in various disputes and situations. These courts operate under either a common or civil law framework. In the United States, the federal judicial system governs the nation and each individual state, and each state has authority over concerns that arise in its borders. The federal and state judicial systems use different processes to select court judges, and the judicial system hears cases based on varying criteria. The Two Global Judicial Frameworks Whether a court uses common law or civil law is ultimately determined by the court s location. The United States and most territories formerly possessed by the British Colonies practice common law, which has roots dating back to the Middle Ages. With common law, judges hear cases and decide what ruling best serves the public s interests. Once a judge makes a ruling, it is now a precedent that other judges and lawyers will defer to when making future legal decisions. In common law practice, there is not always a precedent that sets forth how a judge should handle a legal matter; the judge decides which groups to protect, such as children or home buyers, based on what will benefit society the most. When common court judges make a ruling, they consider how the case outcome will affect the public. Finally, contract law is not predefined in the common law system, which often results in extensive contract language in an effort to prepare

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and Wangari Maathai are some of the type who were looking for justice, equality, and equal opportunities. These human rights activists all fought for their rights and persisted in trying to make a change in the world around them. One of the most popular human rights activists who fought for racial equality, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi would stop at no length to achieve this. Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha, or resistance through non violent civil disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and non whites. Practices of Satyagraha included boycotts, protest marches, and fasts. He encouraged others to defend their rights in this manner, and to work together to end racial injustice in South Africa (Study Synce). One for encouraging people to face their fears,Gandhi would let people get out of their comfort zones and fight for what is theirs; With this, Gandhi would also have people who did not agree with him. The author stated that Gandhi was sent to prison for 6 years, Gandhi had been thrown off a train in South America because he was Indian, and had attempts of assassination against him, the final one being successful from a Buddhist extremist Nathuram Vinayak Godse (Sivananda). Even though Gandhi had faced obstacles such as these, nevertheless, people still rallied to him and supported him during troubling times, this would help Gandhi achieve racial justice. Gandhi s firm and tenacious adherence to the cause of the poor, the downtrodden Harijans, and the common man of the Indian village, is indeed worthy of emulation. Through all the vicissitudes of time and power and fame, he kept before the vision of the Indian Congress the fundamental purpose for which it came into being the amelioration of the suffering of the poor. Uncrowned king of the land, he remained a friend of the poor; he lived for them, moved among them as one of them, and served them with all his heart. He saw God in them, and in their service wore out his body (Sivananda). As seen from what Gandhi had done and how people were inspired by him,

Containment as U.S. Policy During Cold War Era Containment as U.S. policy during Cold War Era From after World War II and up until 1991 the foreign policy of the United States was based on Cold War ideology and the policy of containment; to prevent nations from leaning towards Soviet Union based communism, as first laid out by George Kennan and later used as one of the key principles in the Truman Doctrine (LeCain). As this essay will argue, because of this policy the United States made a commitment to fight communism everywhere in the world and got them involved in conflicts more because of self interest, self protection and determination to beat communism than the cause itself. Even though President Truman had developed the policy of containment and gone to war in Korea to fight against communism, Senator McCarthy continued to attack the President calling him a son of a bitch (LeCain) and referred to Truman s and Roosevelt s Democratic administrations as twenty years of treason (Maier 815). Americans grew impatient due to the Korean conflict and McCarthy fueled the already angry and frustrated American voters and in 1952 Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected president. President Eisenhower hinted that if the North Koreans did not come to the peace table, the United States might use atomic weapons (LeCain). Offering the same terms as President Truman did, Eisenhower was able to make the Chinese and North Koreans sign a peace treaty on July 27th 1953 (Maier 815). With Eisenhower as president Senator McCarthy s days were numbered (Fried 132), the massive defense budget would be reduced, but it did not have an effect on American Cold War policy (Brands 43). Eisenhower was a moderate Republican (LeCain) and he did not attempt to cut the New Deal programs, but wanted to reduce the budget. Six weeks after Eisenhower enters office, Stalin dies. Gesturing has traditionally been considered communicative, but has also been shown to aid learning when used as a teaching strategy. Signing is a type of gesture used as a form of communication. The focus of this study will be on American Sign Language(ASL). The purpose of this study is to test the effects of actively signing while performing a visual spatial memory task. Gesturing has long been seen as a teaching technique for more visual learners. A study by Cook et al. (2008) looked at the use of gestures in promoting learning and lasting memory. To investigate this issue, researchers experimentally manipulated children s gesture during instruction in a new mathematical concept. Eighty four children in the third and fourth grade were recruited to be participants in the study. The study found that requiring children to gesture while learning the new concept helped them retain the knowledge they had gained during instruction. In contrast, children who were required to speak but not gesture while learning the concept saw no effect on solidifying learning. The results of this study are significant because they found correlation between gesturing while learning and retaining information for a longer period of time. However, this study only looked at the effects on learning when the teacher gestures, not when the learner is

And if God is all knowing, then God should already know the outcome and destination of every single individual in the world. Lastly, if God is all caring then he is looking for our best interest. God wants us to live comfortably among each other. And if we do in truth live comfortably and everyone lives comfortably among one another then. It would enable a world where wars are extinguished, along with crime and poverty. But that is not the case. God willingly watch us live our lives miserably in an even more miserable world. A world where humans, animals are placed in a chain; where our very own survival is based upon fitness. So in actuality this happens to be false, and if this is false then god is not genuinely all caring. If god is actually all knowing, all powerful, all caring, he would do something about this. He has the power to intervene and change things but for reasons unknown chooses otherwise Furthermore, god is supposedly full of wisdom, his wisdom is infinite, yet the world lacks heavily. One way this can be viewed is with nature, how nature scarcely tends to the need of human and animal happiness. One question that one may ask is can and is god able to prevent evil? Does he have what it takes; maybe god is impotent (lacking power, strength). According
