Necker s Financial Report
From Louis XIV, who chose to ignore the deficit on his balance book hundreds of years ago after
his reliable accountant Jean Baptiste Colbert died, to the Lehman Brothers, who collapsed in
September 2008 for trading worthless mortgages and swaps, frauds and negligence in financial
accountability seems never ending. Once constrained these unethical practices, a flourishing society
and stable political status can be established, but rarely merchants and governments can completely
and consistently achieve that. The Reckoning shows the significant role of accounting for a
successful merchant and a favorable government. At the same time, reliable financial accountability
can be conserved by full cultural engagement instead of an enforceable accounting... Show more

Even in 15th century Italy, where were famous for its prosperous business and active merchants,
according to Pacioli, rarely people could achieve that goal. The mysterious verve of accounting not
only attracted public and rulers attention, but also induced them to combine the success with good
bookkeeping method. In some degree, it is the truth, but in today s view, merely being a good
accountant is not enough to be a successful businessman. After more and more successful
accounting related stories came out, public firmed their high value of accounting, which connected
it to every things in their lives as well as God. This actually created a pressure for accountants to do
the best in financial accountability, or at least, they purposely presented a beautiful surface, because
public concerned and admired this industry. This sounds like an idol in today s society, who needed
to be careful about their behaviors. This culture, as well as other cultures, could not survive without
authority permission, so it is easy to infer that rulers also tried to use accounting to govern society
better and managed their own properties. In history, however, from Emperor Augustus to the first
American superintendent of finance, rarely people consistently follow accounting ethics, but one
thing was certain, accounting always helped these

Road to El Dorado Essay
Road to El Dorado
Explorers always wanted to find the Golden City. Of course, none of them did. In Candide,
Voltaire describes a city that is equivalent to any Golden City. This world is the ideal world that
almost anyone would like to live in. However, when Candide finds his Golden City, known as El
Dorado, he leaves it. One might wonder why Candide left El Dorado, but there were many well
justified reasons for Candide s departure from the perfect world he was searching for. Candide
gives several arguments for leaving El Dorado. Candide wants to find Cunegund, and he wants to
be of higher status. In El Dorado, everyone has wealth; but if Candide leaves with some pebbles
from El Dorado he can richer then the nobles in Europe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, although life in El Dorado seems perfect, it would not be the ideal place for everyone. For
example, in a conversation with the king of El Dorado, Candide discusses ideals that exist in El
Dorado. In the conversation, Candide is very surprised about how harmonious El Dorado is.
Candide says, Have you no monks among you to dispute, to govern, to intrigue, and to burn
people who are not the same opinion with themselves (53). The king replies that everyone on El
Dorado has the same opinion. Yet, Candide is not a person who forms his own opinion. Pangloss
taught his beliefs to Candide. Candide is used to not having the same opinions as others because
not many people agreed with Pangloss s views. A world where everyone agrees with one another
might seem a little mundane to him. A mundane world would not be a perfect world for
Candide. It seems Candide likes the excitement and the drama that a less perfect world would
bring him. In the last chapter, a wise Turk told Candide, I have no more then twenty acres of
ground, the whole of which I cultivate myself with the help of my children; and our labor keeps
off from us three great evils idleness, vice, and want (79). These great evils all existed in some
form in El Dorado. Want exists in El Dorado because Candide wants the riches of the land. This is
proven by the fact that Candide takes some of the

6.1INTRODUCTION
6.1.1Purpose and Scope of Document
Our software module determines the garbage levels in the bins of a particular location. The main
parameters used in our software are the sensor values and GSM module (for
communication).According to that user gets the information where to dump trash and
administrator gets the idea which bins are getting filled faster so according to that more bins can
be provided and garbage collection in that area can be accelerated. The goal of our module is to
automate garbage management and keep the city clean and hygienic. 6.1.2Overview of
responsibilities of Developer
Building a prototype of an intelligent bin which will continuously monitor the level of garbage
present in the bin with the help of sensors. There are two different types of sensors used in this
model:
HX711 sensor : It is present at the bottom of the bin and it will measure the weight of the bin and
garbage present in it. This value will be converted to digital value with the help of an ADC.
HC SR04 : Used to measure the detect the level of garbage. It works on ultrasonic waves similar
to that of a sonar based on proximity the level of the garbage will be detected. There are multiple
sensors installed based on the size of the bin. Using the current positions of the sensors the bin will
be calibrated. The value

Difference Between Order Measurement And Interval Level Of...
Interval level of measure classifies and order measurement, but also determine the distance
between each interval on a scale that labels low to the high interval. An example is an emergency
room nurse may ask her patient to tell her on a scale 1 10, which number would represent the pain
they are encountering. Also, a temperature can be used as an interval level of measure in
determining the distance between 94 and 96 Celsius degree is the same distance as the temperature
of 100 Celsius to 102 Celsius(Statistic Solution, 2016). Therefore, due to it, characteristic this level
of data has an equal value for the second in time when using interval measurement. However, the

Smoking In Public Places
Smoking Ban Backlash
Walking down Boston s Boylston Street at the late hours of the evening, the sidewalks are crowded
with smokers taking their last hauls before entering the bars for a night of drinking.
Due to the smoking ban in all public work areas that has been in effect since May of 2003,
restaurant and bar patrons of Boston bear the cold winter season approaching, and reminisce about
the old days where it was legal to enjoy a smoke with a cocktail at a bar.
In May of 2003, Boston joined 90 other communities that banned smoking in Massachusetts,
prohibiting smoking in all public establishments. There are certain exceptions to the smoking ban

Only five months after the Boston ban took place discussions of a statewide ban immediately
began, and as it gets closer to 2004,the state of Massachusetts inches it s way closer to a statewide
ban.
The Senate recently joined the House of Representatives in backing the statewide ban. The two
branches of legislature will meet in January to revise a draft of the bill for the statewide ban,
which will most likely pass in early 2004 and take effect July 5, 2004, making Massachusetts the
6th state to ban smoking statewide. California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, and New York have
already passed similar bans.
Governor Mitt Romney will ultimately decide the state bans fate, yet he has not confirmed which
way he leans on this issue.
Many Boston bar and club owners who opposed a city ban now look forward to the statewide ban
in hopes that clientele will return, but most owners had no problem with the smoking to begin with.
I d rather have smoking be allowed to make the customers happy, said Irish born Milan O Shay, a
bartender at the Flann O Brian s Pub in Mission Hill. But since that won t be happening, a
statewide ban gives less of competitive edge to the other towns in the area that have yet to ban
smoking.

Organic Food And Organic Foods
Introduction with Industry Overview:
Organic food has continuously been seen as the healthy choice but only in recent years has the
concept become a world over phenomenon. Earlier, organic food was somewhat of a fad and
although the principles were practiced, it was by no means highlighted.
The argument on whether the organic food products can be bought online and are really organic
has gained enormous magnitudes in not only Pakistan but all over the world. People are dealing
with issues of what is safe and fresh to buy online, what is clean and what is not, what food
processing is hard to animals and soil and what is more viable. To resolve these issues, many
people are moving towards organic food products.
As per the World of Organic Agriculture study, the organic food products market has been rising at
the rate of 20 25% per annum for the last decade.
The food situation in Pakistan also needs immediate attention mainly due to no or very low
compliance with standards and lack of monitoring. Though many people seem to be savvy on the
issues involved, at least to some extent, the online market for nontoxic, cleaner, organic products in
the country is still very limited.
Are people responsive to the differences between organic and conventional foods? Do they have
access to them? Do buyers and sellers have different view points on the availability, prices and
value of organic foods? Do they have multiple options to choose from? Will they buy online? This

Gertrude s Treatment Of Women In Hamlet
The role and treatment of women throughout Hamlet causes the play to come across as
misogynistic and outdated. There are only two women introduced to the audience in the play, one
being the incestuous Gertrude and the other, naГЇve and weak Ophelia. Hamlet, having felt
betrayed by his Mother, becomes cynical about all women in general. He becomes obsessed with
female sexuality, and the obsolete idea that women should remain pure until marriage. Shakespeare
portrays women as weak and dirty creatures that men should be weary of, however easy it may be
to manipulate them.
In Hamlet s agony over his father s death, he feels betrayed by Gertrude due to the fact that instead
of offering comfort she re marries to Hamlets uncle. The audience becomes

Should Animals Suffer And Be Harmed For The Sake Of...
IMPLICATIONS:
Ethically, Xenotransplantation goes against a lot of different views from people. People link this
to why should the animals suffer and be harmed for the sake of keeping someone alive. However,
it also raises the view of the suffering family and friends of those who have to suffer an illness like
diabetes, where is the balance between animal suffering and human benefit? The main ethical view
is why should animals suffer when it isn t certain if it will benefit humans? However, how are
humans meant to learn whether Xenotransplantation works if it isn t tested. Ethical reasons behind
Xenotransplantation plays a huge effect on people s views and opinions towards whether it should
be allowed.
Cultural implications impact s the outcome of Xenotransplantation heavily especially in New
Zealand where the views from the Maori people play an important role to whether something is
morally right. Tangata whenua are always conscious of their responsibility to protect the legacy of
their own future generations (whakapapa), It is considered highly offensive to upset the
whakapapa, mana, mauri and wairua of our world, through the mixing of genes between humans
and other species. Through our eyes, when the balanced cycle is interfered with through genetic
manipulation, whether it be intentional or accidental, it will ultimately cause an imbalance, and in
doing so, the link between our tikanga and the natural world will be affected . The thoughts of the

Formalism In The Novel The Illegal
By applying the formalist lens to the novel, The Illegal, the deeper meaning of struggle and
hardships faced by refugees in unknown and neighboring lands is depicted. Formalism is the
analysis of literature itself through its literacy devices, themes and structure. There is no outside
information used to understand the text, such as the authors personal life and the history of the era
in which the book is written in. All characters in the novelare dealing with their own struggles which
ties in with Keita, the protagonist s story. Viola, uses Keita s refugee and illegal immigrant status to
discover private information about Zantoroland and its relations to Freedom State. Similarly, John
benefits from Keita s fame and respect, while Anton gains money. The author, Lawrence Hill, uses
literary devices such as metaphors, irony and imagery to shape the novel s theme of survival and
struggle. To survive is not to live life, but just continuing to exist despite struggling through
obstacles.
Hill uses metaphors to foreshadow the theme of survival Keita is forced to combat. As Keita
describes himself running, he has learned to strike with his feet soundlessly (Hill, 1), he highlights
the word strike; to hit deliberately with one s hand or a weapon. Keita uses running as his weapon
in the novel. In the fictional country of Zantoroland, running brings riches and honours which
symbolizes privilege (17). However, in Freedom State, Keita uses running as a tool to just stay alive.

Tornado Wind Poem
Furthermore, in the fourth portion of the poem shows the speakers obligations to maintain her
freedom. In stanza four the speaker then states, I am a tornado child born in the whirl of clouds;
the center crumbled then I came. My lovers know the blast of my chaotic, giving that they
tremble at the whip of my supple thighs; you cross me at your peril, I swallow light when the
warmth of anger lashes me into a spin, the pine trees bend to me swept in my gyrations... (Lines
16 22). The speaker discusses his sexual encounters in lines sixteen through twenty two with the
Rosalie Richardson. The speaker explains how to maintain a sense of freedom through
sexuality, which was one of the ways that black southerners maintained their freedom. The last
lines of the poem which is in stanza five states, I am a tornado child. When the spirit takes my
head, I hurtle into the vacuum of white sheets billowing and paint a swirl of color, treaked with
my many songs (23 26). According to the text, stanza five just outlines the seemingly
purposeless nature of Rosalie s life. The speaker becomes creative by adding the use of colors to
describe the tone and Rosalie s feeling throughout the poem. The speaker uses white to describe
Rosalie life as a blank canvas and the swirl of color shows how she is open to various cultures,
which are greatly influenced by Dawes because he is exposed to numerous cultures. While
freedom is manifested in Dawes s poem, hopelessness is shown in Brooks poem. Therefore, in
Brooks poem We Real Cool, wickedness is defined through hopelessness. Throughout the poem
darkness manifests itself as the narrator discusses a group of teenagers that s all about living wild
and dying young because of hopelessness. The narrator starts off by displaying that they seem like
they are content with the alternative lifestyle that they outline throughout the poem, but that defiant
mood abruptly ends at the last line, when their demise seems to be an effect of all the
responsibility they had been putting off over the years. The poem describes the men s fears, their
motivations, and who they think they are, as opposed to who they really are. The first part of the
poem begins with, We real cool. We Left school (Lines

Sandra Cisneros s “Never Marry a Mexican”
Sandra Cisneros s short story Never Marry a Mexican deals heavily with the concept of myth in
literature, more specifically the myth La Malinche, which focuses on women, and how their lives
are spun in the shadows on men (Fitts). Myths help power some of the beliefs of entire cultures or
civilizations. She gives the reader the mind of a Mexican American woman who seems traitorous
to her friends, family and people she is close to. This causes destruction in her path in the form of
love, power, heartbreak, hatred, and an intent to do harm to another, which are themes of myth in
literature. The unreliable narrator of this story was created in this story with the purpose to show
her confusion and what coming from two completely different... Show more content on

This did not appeal to Cisneros, and these ideas helped her become a very influential writer. To
begin, the protagonist Clemencia is like a chameleon, who can blend into any social event and
with any class of wealth when she says I m amphibious. I m a person who doesn t belong to any
class. The rich like to have me around because they envy my creativity; they know they can t buy
that. The poor don t mind if I live in their neighborhood because they know I m poor like they
are, even if my education and the way I dress keeps us worlds apart (Cisneros 71,72). Clemencia
is a woman who knows how to talk and have a good time. By nature she is a very creative being
who loves to impress by wearing the best clothes, and show off to anyone to make herself seem
better than others. (Cisneros 71). Clemencia is poor and does not have much being that she
works for the school system as a translator, and other various positions. But acts rich and very
wealthy to all of her friends (Cisneros 72). This connects with the myth of La Malinche, of how
the character is a bad woman who sleeps with lots of men. Furthermore, the ability to blend in is a
power the author gives the protagonist to be a temptress to men to get them to have an affair with
her, or something that is not serious, because of her fear of commitment. Early on in Clemencia s
life, her mother told her

Les Miserables Research Paper
Good Morning/Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. A hero for our time; we are bombarded with
superhero movies all year round. They are the characters children look up to in our present
society. But are these really heroes? Do we need someone else to look up to? What makes a hero a
hero?
Les Miserables is an exceptional film and is a very good example of the hero narrative. The film
follows the lives of a group of characters from 1815 to the Paris Uprising of 1832.
Some people would say that a hero for our time implies the hero needs to have lived within the
past 20 years to be for our time and to understand what is happening in our world. According to
those people Les Miserables would not fit their criteria due to it being set in 1815 32. This is far
from being correct; Jean Valjean is a hero and can be easily applied to the modern day.
(Look Down)
When the film begins, we meet Jean Valjean who is a convict. The prison guard Javert is watching
over. Valjean has served a 19 year sentence for stealing a loaf of bread; then is granted parole by
Javert. Javert is introduced as a powerful character; the opposite of Valjean. Javert has power over
all of the convicts; Valjean has no power at all.

Isaac Asimov
Asimov most certainly highlights in his novel I,Robot that the future robotic technology is an asset
and is something that is not worth feeling concerned about. Asimov portrays robots as an advantage
to humanity and something that is purer than any other form of technology. In addition to this,
Asimov uses the short stories in I,Robot to establish that any issues faced involving robots can be
solved, which demonstrates that Asimov is evidently not warning us about the dangers of the
future of robotics. Isaac Asimov unquestionably espouses that a robot s purpose is to tremendously
support humanity as a whole, which proves that Asimov indicates that the future robotics is
something that we should not feel pessimistic about. Robots are designed to help humans, which
is justified through the second law of robotics a robot must obey any orders of human beings .
This law makes the sole purpose of a robot to help humanity, which is obviously beneficial. In

If robots are described by Dr Calvin the introduction as a cleaner better breed than [what] we are

the future. As a matter of fact, Asimov displays how precise robots are in the story Reason when
Cutie kept the beam directed sharply at the receiving station to within a ten thousandth of a
millisecond. Not only does this show how accurate Cutie is, but it also shows how Cutie is so pure
that he saves Earth, despite having different beliefs. Asimov then goes on (two words on to) to
compare a lumbering tractor to a far more advanced robot in Robbie, which highlights how much
more superior robots are compared to antique technology. Consequently, Asimov simply cannot be

The Alternatives Of Makeup Testing On Animals
Makeup testing on animals is when animals are utilized to test the safety and hypoallergenic
reaction of the products. In the United States animal testing is legal but regulated by The United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA) or the Animal Health Inspection Services (AHIS).
Regulations include the handle and care of the animal among all stages of life, and not being able
to use pets such as dogs, cats, horses, etc. for testing purposes. When makeup is tested on animals
they are harmed. Animals with harm include: inflamed skin, dry skin, bleeding, swollen eye,
blindness, and sometimes death. When a product does not go as planned, or the products is not
okay to use, it is usually told by the reaction of the animal being tested. Animals that are usually
used for makeup are smaller animals such as rats, mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits. The reason
scientist uses animals to test makeup products, is because their skin and hair are so similar to
humans. According to the Humane society international, ...100,000 200,000 suffer and die every
year due to cosmetic testing. (Zuazua). There are alternatives for testing makeup on animals. Some
alternatives include methods that use human blood, cell lines, and artificial skin. Society is
beginning to become eco friendlier which is turning people s outlook on using products that test on
animals or not. Cosmetic testing is harmful due to the chemical reaction of a certain product. When

Foster Care Ethics
Hennessy Garcia Humans naturally form their own institutions such as a family, system of
government, business, etc.... Institutions/groups are deceiving and get away with a lot. For
instance, cigarette companies advertise a product that can cause cancer. However, it seems that
no one blames the company for selling it. They will blame the individual for smoking it. It is
easier to blame the individual for making terrible choices, but it is ignorant to solely believe that
individual is at fault for their personal choices. Even when it comes to morality, people tend to
blame individuals for having flawed morals, but groups can influence immoral actions. For
example, when someone commits murder or steals it s simple to conclude that they are morally...

Groups homes should be more overlooked. A group home should ensure the safety of all
members. Clearly, the head of the group home wasn t doing his/her job, which is why Randy
got beaten up and nobody didn t do anything to stop it. Another problem with the foster care
system is the waiting game to be adopted. The foster care process should look into other
members of a child s family, so that way they don t end up with random people who may or may
not offer permanent care. The foster care system in general puts kids like Randy in a constant
cycle of waiting. Waiting for someone who cares enough to display love and offer a security.
Based on Ms. Anna s hospitalization, we see that Randy was quickly out of Anna s care and
taken straight into a group home. This isn t fair to Randy because jumping from someone s care
to another shows how Randy doesn t have anyone that truly cares for him. If he had a permanent
parental figure in his life, he may be loved and his safety would be ensured. Carver offered to
care for him and the foster care system denied him. The foster care system failed Randy by not
providing him the security, love and the proper care he needs. This affects Randy immensely

The home was in a lovely older neighborhood and had been on the market for a long time. So the
price from the initial listing to the one that caught my attention was extremely low. I made an
offer on the home just by the price alone. The homes in that area were selling for a lot more in
that area. The curbside appeal for the home was beautiful. I did not do any research on the
property and just took the word of the agent that all documents and taxes were current. That
there were no issues. After talking to a few neighbors in that area I found out in time that there
were many issues surrounding the property and that is way it was priced so low. The
improvements had been done without permits and that placed the property in situations too hard
to sell or get financing for. For me the due diligence would have been to research my title
documents, court papers, and etc even before wasting anytime on that piece of property. Lucky
for me the offer I placed on the table was able to be voided since the agent did not properly
inform me of the situation on that piece of property. Overall, this would have been an excellent
rental property because of the location close to schools, shopping and walking distance to the

The Presidential Election Of 1980 Essay
On Tuesday, 4 November 1980, The United States presidential election of 1980 was held. The
competition was between incumbent Democratic President Jimmy Carter and his opponent, former
Californian Republican Governor, Ronald Reagan. Reagan, assisted by a falling economy
complicated by inflation and high unemployment, and the Iran hostage crisis, Reagan would win
the election in a sweep, receiving the largest number of electoral votes ever tallied by a presidential
candidate not currently in office. Jimmy Carter, who beat out Edward M. Kennedy for the
nomination for Democratic leader, attacked Reagan as a wild right wing fundamentalist. The
former actor, Ronald Reaganpledged to elevate the cynical mood of the nation, and won a
conclusive victory. This election marked the creation of what was called the Reagan Revolution,
and indicated a conservative repositioning in national government.
Throughout the 1970s, the United States underwent a wrenching period of low economic growth,
high inflation and interest rates, and intermittent energy crises. In the spring and summer of 1979,
inflation was on the rise and various parts of the United States were experiencing energy
shortages, Carter was widely blamed and planned on delivering a major speech about energy
conservation, but he thought the American public did not care for what he had to say. In the mist
of all this, Carter went on the presidential retreat for the bilateral treaty on Camp David. For more

The Pros And Cons Of The Federal Prison System
In the United States of America there are currently two prison systems in place; the Federal prison
system, and the State prison system. Every state in the U.S. has its own Department of Corrections,
which is tasked with handling crimes committed at the state level (Allen, 2017). The state where the
crime occurred has jurisdiction over the individual that committed the crime. An individual, whom
has committed a crime within a state s jurisdiction that results in a long sentence, is sent to the state
prisonsystem in that particular state (Allen, 2017). A long sentence encompasses a period of time
which exceeds a year, and a day; which is the length of time given to an individual convicted of a
felony crime. An individual convicted of a misdemeanor crime which is accompanied by a
sentencing length of less than a year, will serve their respective sentence in a jail. Once the
individual has received their sentence, they will go through an initial classification process (Allen,
Latessa, and Ponder, 2013). The purpose of the initial classification process is to identify the
individual s custody level, work assignment, and treatment. The initial classification process will
differentiate between those individuals that present different security risks, and supervision
concerns. Factors such as the individual s current offense, escape potential and prior criminal
history are factored in during the initial classification. Also, an individual s background attributes,

End Of Semester Reflection. This Semester Has Been A Tough
End of Semester Reflection This semester has been a tough one but I feel like I have learned a
lot about pharmacy over these past few months. I have had a lot of courses so far and in each
one, I have been able to make connections to the practice of pharmacy. In this essay, I will reflect
on some of things I learned in my courses and how they relate to my future career as a pharmacist.
I will also identify areas where certain topics intersect in different courses.
In my pharmaceutics course, I learned a lot about drug dosage forms. One example is when I was
taught about the different kinds of inhalers and what distinguishes them from each other. I also
learned about how these inhalers deliver the drug into the target organ and ... Show more content on

Insulin is a hormone that allows the body to store glucose. Diabetes is a disease state that results
from the body not able to use insulin or the body cannot produce enough insulin. Since there is
lack of insulin in a diabetic, glucose is not able to be stored. This means that glucose remains in
the body and draws water out of cells causing dehydration. Additionally, the kidneys cannot
reabsorb excess glucose and it spills into urine causing an osmotic effect. The above problems
mentioned lead to excessive thirst and excessive urination. In a diabetic, glucose is not able to be
used as a fuel source so fatty acids and proteins are used instead. This leads to weight loss, hunger,
and a loss of energy. Biochemistry did a great job at teaching us very relevant material about
pharmacy. As pharmacists, we dispense a lot of vitamins so it is important to know why patients
are taking them. It is also important to be able to educate them if they have any questions. This
goes for diabetic patients as well. Knowing how the disease works and being able to explain it to
patients is something that we have to know as pharmacists. We must be able to answer a patient s
questions about their diabetes and symptoms if they have any.
In our ABLE lab course, we took a lot of things we learned in some of our courses and performed
hands on activities using what we learned. For example, when we learned about suppositories in
pharmaceutics, we compounded them in a lab activity. In fact, we

Marketing Strategy of the Panera Bread Company Essay
As mentioned in the case study, Panera Bread Company is known to be one of the leading
bakery/cafГ© that offers freshly baked pastries and French inspired entrГ©es across various
states in the US. However in the recent years, Panera Bread faced a decrease in their usual high
growth rate from 9.1% and 12.0% in the year 2000 to merely 0.2% and 0.5% of comparable sales
and annualized unit volumes respectively. The company likewise has already employed various
strategies in order to maintain the high growth rate of the company. However these strategies is
soon to reach its capacity to ensure growth. Based on the case as well, what seems to be lacking in

The purpose of getting endorsers is to make the Panera Bread cafГ© experience relatable to a lot
of people. This likewise opens the opportunity to broaden the market of people that the company
caters to. The role of tri media involves tapping a broader market. Television, radio, print and the
Internet functions as gateway into a bigger and varied audience. As such by utilizing these
platforms, Panera Bread can widen the scope of its market, thus increasing sales.
Controlling of Cost Panera Bread Bakery and CafГ© boast of its quality of food and market it
as freshly baked breads prepared everyday. But with this kind of strategy involves a lot of
spoilage, contributing to the high cost that the company is incurring. In the statement provided
in the case, despite the increasing operating profit since 2001, the profit margin remains to be
low. In order to address such problem, the company may opt to offer discounts in certain time of
the day to boost the sales of its bread. For instance the bakeshop may provide 50% discount on
its baked goods when stores are about to close. In doing so, it will not only reduce the spoilage of
the bakeshop, but would also broaden the appeal of the bakery cafГ© to a bigger market. The
discount serves as a tool to segment the market that the company is catering into, and thus be able
to maximize the sales per target market.

Women and men have different physical abilities that allow them to accent different parts of
their game. I will prove this by using an example from soccer. Men and women s soccer both
have a great following. However, the two games are played quite differently, not because the
women are less self serving, but because their game is more about finesse, and precision,
whereas men s game accentuates more their power and speed. The distinction here is not that
women are just naturally inclined to use the more feminine skills but rather that most don t have
the capacity to be able to use the power that a man does. This all fits into the socialization
argument well, but it fits in another way, too. I have found in my 16 years of soccer playing that
if a man posses the ability to have finesse, he is admired, and looked upon as a great addition to
any team. However, women who posses some of the traits more noted in men s soccer are
commonly criticized and encouraged to have more control. In soccer therefore, it is not as bad
for a man to have some feminine traits, but for females, to hold masculine traits is a great
detriment to their game. There is one more point that I would like to raise about the WNBA
article. In society and the media, there is hardly ever any mention about the male basketball player
s family. In the WNBA however, there is constant emphasis on the women s ability to fulfill dual
roles as athletes and mothers/wives.

In the film, we also observed that bowing is an important part of Japanese tradition. Kids learned
to bow from a very young age and they are taught the different kinds of bows. In Chihiro, we see
that her bowing varies according to the person she is meeting. For instance, when she meets
Kamaji, Zeniba and Yubaba her bows are deep and long. On the other hand, her bows towards
No face and the stick lamp are shorter and less deep. In this film, we can appreciate the
references made for new generations to appreciate and respect the culture they learned from

to modern Japan. The historical aspect of Japanese people is starting to fade like in the ending
of the movie when Haku learned by Chihiro that where he used to live people destroy the river to

Why Does Conan Doyle Put So Much Emphasis On Social Class
Why does Conan Doyle put so much emphasis on social class? When it comes to the subject of
social class, this story reminded me of just about every other book we ve read this semester, in
the way they decided to depict the lower class. Both Holmes and Doyle come from a very
privileged and educated background, and had a very bad attitude towards anyone from even a
slightly lower class, even though they relied on the lower classes to do a lot of things for them.
They treated the lower classed people as second class citizens and it really speaks to the time
period. For some reason all of our stories have read include upper middle class people who
seemed perfect normal on the outside, but had some really weird supernatural or crazy thing
happen. It makes me think that one thing I could take from these books is mo money, mo

Heights and Trushcross grange. Stapleton, being a distant cousin of Sir Henry, has his eye on
securing the Baskerville estate for himself, and created all this mess for his selfish benefit:
requiring Holmes to deal with not just the physical threat to the Baskerville heir, but also debunk
all the fear surrounding the hound. So basically when someone in the family comes into some
money there will always be a distant long lost cousin wanting a piece of it. Its surprising how that
logic can be applied to both the time period in which the book takes place, and our current

Similarities Between Reality And Fiction In The Truman Show
The film called The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is about a young man named Truman
Burbank, and his life since the beginning which has been constantly surrounded by cameras for the
public to watch, without him ever knowing it. Everyday he lived his constant, perfect life,
following the same routine, surrounded by actors pretending to be citizens of the town of Seahaven
and his loved ones, while being broadcasted for the whole world to see without a single
interruption. But one day that had all changed. This film belongs to the metafictional genre and
views The Truman Showthrough Truman s eyes himself. The use of metafictional elements of
blurred lines between reality and fiction, different stories being created within the overall film
story and the revelation of the narrator becoming a character in the film The Truman Show teaches
viewers that the views that you might have are not always be the best for you or for someone else.
Truman Burbank has grown up surrounded by cameras and actors yet his reactions are very
real. This is why Christof, the creator, thinks the show is so compelling and why sometimes it is
hard to see the differences in the film between reality and fiction. Blurred lines between reality
and fiction is a very effective element of metafiction because it leaves the audience in a constant
state of confusion between what s real and what s not. This is very effective in The Truman Show
in the part when Sylvia decides to interrupt the show and tell Truman that his life is all a lie and
that he is being watched. This blurs the line between reality and fiction in Truman s life because it
leaves him confused and curious and questioning whether what she said was true or not. Since
Truman has been living his whole life thinking that he was simply living a normal life, in a normal
town, this comes as a shock to him and leaves him wondering what she meant. Once that event has
occurred, the creator, Christof was frustrated because he did not want Truman to find out the truth
of the fake reality that he had created for him because that would ruin the show. But in the end, once
Truman had finally found out the truth, he chose to leave Seahaven which made Christof mad. This
proves that although

History Of The Bubonic Plague
When a matter such as the Bubonic Plague strikes in a world unexposed to the current technology
and information citizens tend to create false cures and treatments. These treatments are highly
dangerous and unhygienic. A common treatment used was bloodletting, which was the act of
extracting blood from a patient to remove the disease. Similar to bloodletting was boil lancing
which is when you take a knife to slice the buboes until they bursted. Buboes were a symptom of
the Bubonic Plaguedescribed as a swollen inflamed lymph node. Others however believed in
superstitious practices, for example burning aromatic herbs and bathing in rose water or vinegar.
Some more eccentric treatments included witchcraft and potion making which many were
persecuted for practicing. Now it is known that the treatments above were inefficient in curing and
or preventing the bubonic plague. Then we have the anti seminists who believed that Jews were

The limits Stoker presented in the creature equally contributed to the prevailing influence Dracula

Ethical Issues Surrounding Organ Transplantation 1 The Ethical Issues Surrounding Organ
Transplantation A Review of the Literature Beginning with the first organ transplants in the 1950 s;
questions have risen regarding these life changing procedures and the ethics that surround them.
During the years since, society has continued to debate the issues surrounding organ transplants.
With the creation of regulations regarding organ procurement and the development of transplant
waiting lists, it is obvious that an increasing number of people have had their lives effected by
this medical advancement. That being said, the importance of educating people on the facts of
transplantation is greater than it has ever been. This literature review considers the use of personal
ethics in the decision making process as it relates to organ transplantation by responding to the
following questions: 1. How do we deal with the shortage of donated organs? 2. What is the

In chemistry and in our world there are elements that are needed for survival in our everyday life,
and one essential element that both humans and plants need is magnesium. Magnesium is an

compound that helps with the heating in your home is Magnesium Oxide (MgO). It is a good

Also, when using cotton and wool fabrics, cement, or ceramics people need Magnesium Citrate

fluoride and magnesium oxide that produce glass and ceramics, magnesium hexafluorosilicate that

magnesium is easily reactive it can combine with other elements to form several useful compounds.
One specific use of Mg compounds in our society is the functions of magnesium alloys in the
industry field. An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals with properties different from those of
the individual metals (Newton). For example, since magnesium is a lightweight metal and
aluminum is a heavier metal magnesium can alloy with Aluminum. Magnesium and aluminum
alloys create airplanes, automobiles, ladders, artificial limbs, vaccum cleaners, lawn mowers,
some portable power and gardening tools, car wheels, soda cans, and skis. Since Mg is one of the
lightest metals it is used in vehicles so that there can be less fuel (Uttley).

African Americans began the movement of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920 s. Suppressed by

Drinking And College Students
Drinking in college is a popular activity to take part in. However, that does not mean it is healthy
or useful. Alcohol companies feed off college students. Their advertising is directed at underage
drinkers, and many college students fall into that category. So, why do these young adults drink?
The answer is in the ads, the alcoholcompanies are promoting fun times and joyous lives. Therefore,
the underage students see drinking as a social normand think they might even have a better life
after they start drinking. Nonetheless, people know the cold hard truth about alcohol, it is an
unhealthy and even deadly substance. Colleges need to fix their alcohol advertising and drinking
problems by dropping their alcohol sponsors and promoting healthier lifestyles along with showing
the students that you do not need to drink to become popular, which in turn eliminates underage
drinking and the harm that goes along with alcohol consumption. Whether alcohol companies will
admit that their advertising is focused on underage people and more specifically underage college

Scout And Jem Meet Boo Analysis
I predict that scout and jem will not meet Boo. One reason they will not meet Boo is because they
are scared of Boo. According to the people in the town Boo looks very scary. He has a big scar on
his face. Also they believe he is six and a half feet tall. He has blood stained hands because he
kills animals and eats them. Boo has a bad reputation, he was in a gang. People say that he killed
his dad by stabbed him with a scissors. Also he only goes out at night, and he looks into
windows and stocks people. Another reason why they will not meet Boo is because he is locked
in the house. The whole Radley family is very odd. They are not very social, in Maycomb Sunday
is a day where everyone hangs out and goes to church. The Radleys keep their

Descriptive Essay On Bowling
It was dark and rainy outside, we were just in for a good time, yet we had no idea what was in for
the future ahead of us. Myself and a few other friends were at the bowling alley in Glenwood
Iowa, for no specific reason, just to have a good time with each other. It was the middle of
summer and who knew this was going to be one of the scariest nights of our lives.
It s your turn to bowl! Alyx exclaimed to me. Everytime I go up to bowl I wait for the same ball to
come out of the ball shoot every single time, it s bright red and only has 3 little holes for my fingers
to go into. As I went up to bowl, I grabbed my lucky ball and rolled it down the path like a slippery
snake, STRIKE! Right after I had gotten my strike, the bowling alley got a telephone call saying
there was a shooting nearby in town. Everyone got a little panicked, but we continued with our
fun night of bowling. Kamryn, Kennedy and Tommy all bowled and got their scores. It was
starting to get darker outside when all of a sudden we heard gunshots outside of the building,
just as loud as when you hear an airplane taking off. The gunshots were one right after another, 4
in a row. *boom boom boom boom* they went in the air. Everyone went to look outside and all
of a sudden a dark shadow wearing all black clothes was starting to walk up to the door, it was
still about 100 feet away, but it was getting closer, and fast. Get into the bathroom, now! The
manager of the bowling alley told us with spark in his

Assessment of Debates on Media Effects
Assessment of Debates on Media Effects
A long history lies behind question about how communication affects or influences people. Greeks
developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and
Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. Even nowadays in face to face
conversations each of us mobilizes theories about how to influence our listeners. For instance, we
wish to make others understand how we feel or what we think. Today, mass communication studies
have developed as a discipline with a focus on television and newspapers and, to a lesser extent,
cinema and radio. Thanks to mass communication technologies a programme can now be viewed ...

In short, if researchers had not showed some of the materials about which they were asking the
respondents to comment on, they would not normally have viewed them. Therefore, as Barker and
Petley (2001:4) conclude after a research focused on women s responses to four very different
kinds of programme, the issue is not whether depictions of violence increase the likelihood of
similar violence among potential perpetrators, but the feelings and reactions that it creates among
those who are the actual or potential victims of violence . The important point is not so much
violent representations can be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are
watching some kind of violent depictions.
We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns
are limited to fictional productions. As Gauntlett (1998:125) says there is no obvious reason why
the antisocial activities which are always in the news, and which frequently do not have such
apparent consequences for their agents, should not have similar effects . Most of the studies about
media effects almost always separate their discussions of entertainment from news. Turow (1999)
believes that people have been taught to expect more from

Grande Odalisque And The Nightmare Comparison
Both Grande Odalisque and The Nightmare, were created during a time period ruled by
Neoclassism and Romanticism. Grande Odalisque is an oil painting created by Jean Auguste
Dominique Ingres in 1814. The Nightmare is an oil painting created by Henry Fuseli in 1781.
Grande Odalisque and The Nightmare have very unique themes that represent each of their artists
own unique style, despite their differences they still maintain certain similarities through the
Romantic qualities that each possess. In order to fully comprehend the meaning of works of art, it
is important to understand the artist behind them. Obtaining knowledge on an artist s life can help
the viewer comprehend possible messages that a work of art is trying to present. Jean Auguste...

He achieves this by using oil paint on canvas. Its main focus is that of a nude European woman
in the foreground, the woman stares apathetically at the viewer. Her body is lounging on a blue
couch, with rich linens crumpled beneath her. There are elaborately embroidered curtains
hanging behind her. The only thing adorning her body is a turban in her hair and a peacock
feathered fan clutched in her hand. The feathers could be symbolizing the woman s integrity and
high social standing, which is indicative to peacocks. The cool blue tones used throughout the
piece help emphasize the woman s calm demeanor. Her body is long and languid, which Ingres
was able to achieve with illusionism. He often distorted the human form to achieve idealistic
images, such as the lengthening of the woman s torso ( Jean 122). The contrast between her skin
and the environment helps her body stand out in comparison. The lines that define her body curve
softly, giving her a sensual and smooth appearance in contrast to the angular lines used in the
environment. Ingres portrays the young woman as a concubine in a harem looking over her
shoulder at her master. Although he had attempted Neoclassicism this picture leans to a more
Romantic approach, which is the reason it was not well received when it was displayed in a Salon
in Paris ( Jean

18. Write an essay describing three ways in which Jinch Malrex is similar to The Farm Show and
the theatre group to which Miles belongs. Use examples from the article, from the information in
this lesson, or from The Drawer Boy to illustrate and support your comparison.
Organize your essay this way: * Introductory Paragraph. * Three paragraphs each paragraph
explains and supports one point of similarity. * Concluding Paragraph.
In The Drawer Boy, Miles tells a couple of farmers that he wants to do a play based on farming
in Ontario. He asks if he can observe their work and make notes to give his play some realistic
views. He explained that his play was going to be called The Farm Show. From the article that I
read, it talked about a play called Jinch Malrex. This play is also based in Ontario, more
specifically Toronto. The similarities between the two plays aren t as noticeable when you look
at them from the outside, but if you get down to the process of how the play was made, you
understand a little more about how they are similar. Three ways that The Farm Show and Jinch
Malrex are similar is in the process of how the play was created, the message the plays are trying to
create, and the locations of where they take place.
In the process of how the play was made for both Jinch Malrex and The Farm show, research was
done. The Farm show was

guinea pig each day is important to your guinea pig s happiness, set aside plenty of time to play
with your pet. Consider giving your guinea pigs some floor time each day, let them loose in an
enclosed space, but make sure you are closely watching. You can set up a pen in a room preferably
an area with easy to clean floors in case of accidents, or outside if it isn t too hot or cold. Make sure
to have plenty of space in their exercise area so that they can run and play. Make sure to put a

  • 2. Necker s Financial Report From Louis XIV, who chose to ignore the deficit on his balance book hundreds of years ago after his reliable accountant Jean Baptiste Colbert died, to the Lehman Brothers, who collapsed in September 2008 for trading worthless mortgages and swaps, frauds and negligence in financial accountability seems never ending. Once constrained these unethical practices, a flourishing society and stable political status can be established, but rarely merchants and governments can completely and consistently achieve that. The Reckoning shows the significant role of accounting for a successful merchant and a favorable government. At the same time, reliable financial accountability can be conserved by full cultural engagement instead of an enforceable accounting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even in 15th century Italy, where were famous for its prosperous business and active merchants, according to Pacioli, rarely people could achieve that goal. The mysterious verve of accounting not only attracted public and rulers attention, but also induced them to combine the success with good bookkeeping method. In some degree, it is the truth, but in today s view, merely being a good accountant is not enough to be a successful businessman. After more and more successful accounting related stories came out, public firmed their high value of accounting, which connected it to every things in their lives as well as God. This actually created a pressure for accountants to do the best in financial accountability, or at least, they purposely presented a beautiful surface, because public concerned and admired this industry. This sounds like an idol in today s society, who needed to be careful about their behaviors. This culture, as well as other cultures, could not survive without authority permission, so it is easy to infer that rulers also tried to use accounting to govern society better and managed their own properties. In history, however, from Emperor Augustus to the first American superintendent of finance, rarely people consistently follow accounting ethics, but one thing was certain, accounting always helped these ... In Candide, Voltaire describes a city that is equivalent to any Golden City. This world is the ideal world that almost anyone would like to live in. However, when Candide finds his Golden City, known as El Dorado, he leaves it. One might wonder why Candide left El Dorado, but there were many well justified reasons for Candide s departure from the perfect world he was searching for. Candide gives several arguments for leaving El Dorado. Candide wants to find Cunegund, and he wants to be of higher status. In El Dorado, everyone has wealth; but if Candide leaves with some pebbles from El Dorado he can richer then the nobles in Europe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, although life in El Dorado seems perfect, it would not be the ideal place for everyone. For example, in a conversation with the king of El Dorado, Candide discusses ideals that exist in El Dorado. In the conversation, Candide is very surprised about how harmonious El Dorado is. Candide says, Have you no monks among you to dispute, to govern, to intrigue, and to burn people who are not the same opinion with themselves (53). The king replies that everyone on El Dorado has the same opinion. Yet, Candide is not a person who forms his own opinion. Pangloss taught his beliefs to Candide. Candide is used to not having the same opinions as others because not many people agreed with Pangloss s views. A world where everyone agrees with one another might seem a little mundane to him. A mundane world would not be a perfect world for Candide. It seems Candide likes the excitement and the drama that a less perfect world would bring him. In the last chapter, a wise Turk told Candide, I have no more then twenty acres of ground, the whole of which I cultivate myself with the help of my children; and our labor keeps off from us three great evils idleness, vice, and want (79). These great evils all existed in some form in El Dorado. Want exists in El Dorado because Candide wants the riches of the land. This is proven by the fact that Candide takes some of the ... Due to the smoking ban in all public work areas that has been in effect since May of 2003, restaurant and bar patrons of Boston bear the cold winter season approaching, and reminisce about the old days where it was legal to enjoy a smoke with a cocktail at a bar. In May of 2003, Boston joined 90 other communities that banned smoking in Massachusetts, prohibiting smoking in all public establishments. Only five months after the Boston ban took place discussions of a statewide ban immediately began, and as it gets closer to 2004,the state of Massachusetts inches it s way closer to a statewide ban. The Senate recently joined the House of Representatives in backing the statewide ban. The two branches of legislature will meet in January to revise a draft of the bill for the statewide ban, which will most likely pass in early 2004 and take effect July 5, 2004, making Massachusetts the 6th state to ban smoking statewide. California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, and New York have already passed similar bans. Governor Mitt Romney will ultimately decide the state bans fate, yet he has not confirmed which way he leans on this issue. Many Boston bar and club owners who opposed a city ban now look forward to the statewide ban in hopes that clientele will return, but most owners had no problem with the smoking to begin with. I d rather have smoking be allowed to make the customers happy, said Irish born Milan O Shay, a bartender at the Flann O Brian s Pub in Mission Hill. • 8. Organic Food And Organic Foods Introduction with Industry Overview: Organic food has continuously been seen as the healthy choice but only in recent years has the concept become a world over phenomenon. Earlier, organic food was somewhat of a fad and although the principles were practiced, it was by no means highlighted. The argument on whether the organic food products can be bought online and are really organic has gained enormous magnitudes in not only Pakistan but all over the world. People are dealing with issues of what is safe and fresh to buy online, what is clean and what is not, what food processing is hard to animals and soil and what is more viable. To resolve these issues, many people are moving towards organic food products. As per the World of Organic Agriculture study, the organic food products market has been rising at the rate of 20 25% per annum for the last decade. The food situation in Pakistan also needs immediate attention mainly due to no or very low compliance with standards and lack of monitoring. Though many people seem to be savvy on the issues involved, at least to some extent, the online market for nontoxic, cleaner, organic products in the country is still very limited. Are people responsive to the differences between organic and conventional foods? Do they have access to them? Do buyers and sellers have different view points on the availability, prices and value of organic foods? Do they have multiple options to choose from? Will they buy online? This report is ... Hamlet, having felt betrayed by his Mother, becomes cynical about all women in general. He becomes obsessed with female sexuality, and the obsolete idea that women should remain pure until marriage. • 11. Formalism In The Novel The Illegal By applying the formalist lens to the novel, The Illegal, the deeper meaning of struggle and hardships faced by refugees in unknown and neighboring lands is depicted. Formalism is the analysis of literature itself through its literacy devices, themes and structure. There is no outside information used to understand the text, such as the authors personal life and the history of the era in which the book is written in. All characters in the novelare dealing with their own struggles which ties in with Keita, the protagonist s story. Viola, uses Keita s refugee and illegal immigrant status to discover private information about Zantoroland and its relations to Freedom State. Similarly, John benefits from Keita s fame and respect, while Anton gains money. The author, Lawrence Hill, uses literary devices such as metaphors, irony and imagery to shape the novel s theme of survival and struggle. To survive is not to live life, but just continuing to exist despite struggling through obstacles. Hill uses metaphors to foreshadow the theme of survival Keita is forced to combat. As Keita describes himself running, he has learned to strike with his feet soundlessly (Hill, 1), he highlights the word strike; to hit deliberately with one s hand or a weapon. Keita uses running as his weapon in the novel. In the fictional country of Zantoroland, running brings riches and honours which symbolizes privilege (17). However, in Freedom State, Keita uses running as a tool to just stay alive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In stanza four the speaker then states, I am a tornado child born in the whirl of clouds; the center crumbled then I came. My lovers know the blast of my chaotic, giving that they tremble at the whip of my supple thighs; you cross me at your peril, I swallow light when the warmth of anger lashes me into a spin, the pine trees bend to me swept in my gyrations... (Lines 16 22). The speaker discusses his sexual encounters in lines sixteen through twenty two with the Rosalie Richardson. The speaker explains how to maintain a sense of freedom through sexuality, which was one of the ways that black southerners maintained their freedom. The last lines of the poem which is in stanza five states, I am a tornado child. When the spirit takes my head, I hurtle into the vacuum of white sheets billowing and paint a swirl of color, treaked with my many songs (23 26). According to the text, stanza five just outlines the seemingly purposeless nature of Rosalie s life. The speaker becomes creative by adding the use of colors to describe the tone and Rosalie s feeling throughout the poem. The speaker uses white to describe Rosalie life as a blank canvas and the swirl of color shows how she is open to various cultures, which are greatly influenced by Dawes because he is exposed to numerous cultures. While freedom is manifested in Dawes s poem, hopelessness is shown in Brooks poem. Therefore, in Brooks poem We Real Cool, wickedness is defined through hopelessness. Throughout the poem darkness manifests itself as the narrator discusses a group of teenagers that s all about living wild and dying young because of hopelessness. The narrator starts off by displaying that they seem like they are content with the alternative lifestyle that they outline throughout the poem, but that defiant mood abruptly ends at the last line, when their demise seems to be an effect of all the responsibility they had been putting off over the years. The poem describes the men s fears, their motivations, and who they think they are, as opposed to who they really are. The first part of the poem begins with, We real cool. We Left school (Lines ... Sandra Cisneros s “Never Marry a Mexican” Sandra Cisneros s short story Never Marry a Mexican deals heavily with the concept of myth in literature, more specifically the myth La Malinche, which focuses on women, and how their lives are spun in the shadows on men (Fitts). The rich like to have me around because they envy my creativity; they know they can t buy that. The poor don t mind if I live in their neighborhood because they know I m poor like they are, even if my education and the way I dress keeps us worlds apart (Cisneros 71,72). They are the characters children look up to in our present society. But are these really heroes? Do we need someone else to look up to? What makes a hero a hero? Les Miserables is an exceptional film and is a very good example of the hero narrative. The film follows the lives of a group of characters from 1815 to the Paris Uprising of 1832. Some people would say that a hero for our time implies the hero needs to have lived within the past 20 years to be for our time and to understand what is happening in our world. According to those people Les Miserables would not fit their criteria due to it being set in 1815 32. This is far from being correct; Jean Valjean is a hero and can be easily applied to the modern day. (Look Down) When the film begins, we meet Jean Valjean who is a convict. The prison guard Javert is watching over. Valjean has served a 19 year sentence for stealing a loaf of bread; then is granted parole by Javert. Reagan, assisted by a falling economy complicated by inflation and high unemployment, and the Iran hostage crisis, Reagan would win the election in a sweep, receiving the largest number of electoral votes ever tallied by a presidential candidate not currently in office. Every state in the U.S. has its own Department of Corrections, which is tasked with handling crimes committed at the state level (Allen, 2017). The state where the crime occurred has jurisdiction over the individual that committed the crime. A long sentence encompasses a period of time which exceeds a year, and a day; which is the length of time given to an individual convicted of a felony crime. An individual convicted of a misdemeanor crime which is accompanied by a sentencing length of less than a year, will serve their respective sentence in a jail. Once the individual has received their sentence, they will go through an initial classification process (Allen, Latessa, and Ponder, 2013). I have found in my 16 years of soccer playing that if a man posses the ability to have finesse, he is admired, and looked upon as a great addition to any team. However, women who posses some of the traits more noted in men s soccer are commonly criticized and encouraged to have more control. In soccer therefore, it is not as bad for a man to have some feminine traits, but for females, to hold masculine traits is a great detriment to their game. There is one more point that I would like to raise about the WNBA article. In society and the media, there is hardly ever any mention about the male basketball player s family. In the WNBA however, there is constant emphasis on the women s ability to fulfill dual roles as athletes and mothers/wives. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Why Does Conan Doyle Put So Much Emphasis On Social Class Why does Conan Doyle put so much emphasis on social class? When it comes to the subject of social class, this story reminded me of just about every other book we ve read this semester, in the way they decided to depict the lower class. Both Holmes and Doyle come from a very privileged and educated background, and had a very bad attitude towards anyone from even a slightly lower class, even though they relied on the lower classes to do a lot of things for them. They treated the lower classed people as second class citizens and it really speaks to the time period. For some reason all of our stories have read include upper middle class people who seemed perfect normal on the outside, but had some really weird supernatural or crazy thing happen. It makes me think that one thing I could take from these books is mo money, mo problems. Who s the real bad guy of The Hound of the Baskervilles?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main conflict in this story is between the Baskervilles and the curse that haunts them. But the only thing that is truly haunting them is Stapleton. Stapleton s corrupt behavior comes about in the pursuit of money and power, reminds me of Heathcliff and his desire to have Wuthering Heights and Trushcross grange. Stapleton, being a distant cousin of Sir Henry, has his eye on securing the Baskerville estate for himself, and created all this mess for his selfish benefit: requiring Holmes to deal with not just the physical threat to the Baskerville heir, but also debunk all the fear surrounding the hound. So basically when someone in the family comes into some money there will always be a distant long lost cousin wanting a piece of it. • 31. Similarities Between Reality And Fiction In The Truman Show The film called The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey is about a young man named Truman Burbank, and his life since the beginning which has been constantly surrounded by cameras for the public to watch, without him ever knowing it. Everyday he lived his constant, perfect life, following the same routine, surrounded by actors pretending to be citizens of the town of Seahaven and his loved ones, while being broadcasted for the whole world to see without a single interruption. But one day that had all changed. This film belongs to the metafictional genre and views The Truman Showthrough Truman s eyes himself. The use of metafictional elements of blurred lines between reality and fiction, different stories being created within the overall film story and the revelation of the narrator becoming a character in the film The Truman Show teaches viewers that the views that you might have are not always be the best for you or for someone else. Truman Burbank has grown up surrounded by cameras and actors yet his reactions are very real. This is why Christof, the creator, thinks the show is so compelling and why sometimes it is hard to see the differences in the film between reality and fiction. Blurred lines between reality and fiction is a very effective element of metafiction because it leaves the audience in a constant state of confusion between what s real and what s not. This is very effective in The Truman Show in the part when Sylvia decides to interrupt the show and tell Truman that his life is all a lie and that he is being watched. This blurs the line between reality and fiction in Truman s life because it leaves him confused and curious and questioning whether what she said was true or not. Since Truman has been living his whole life thinking that he was simply living a normal life, in a normal town, this comes as a shock to him and leaves him wondering what she meant. Once that event has occurred, the creator, Christof was frustrated because he did not want Truman to find out the truth of the fake reality that he had created for him because that would ruin the show. But in the end, once Truman had finally found out the truth, he chose to leave Seahaven which made Christof mad. This proves that although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
