Human Freedom, Consciousness, And Reality
Human Freedom, Consciousness, and Reality There are a number of situations in which
reasonable minds can disagree. Businesses normally face such situations. For example, a
company situated in country A may be selling clothes from country C. It happens that the media
has been criticizing the company for selling products, which are believed to be produced by
children. Suppose the company conducts research and find out that the clothes it is selling are
made by children. The investigations also shows that it is not the girls fault nor is the company s
fault to have the girls who are still young employed in such a company. It also shows that the
society does not educate girls beyond the sixth grade. To worsen the situation,, the researcher
found that the society is poor and cannot provide the basic needs to the young girls. The
respondent reveals if you shut this plant down, you will literally take food off the table for these
families and that there are no other opportunities in the town. This means that preventing the
employment of young girls would cause more problems than improve their situation. On the other
hand, laws from country A may prohibit the child labor. Some thinkers may believe that the young
children should be allowed to go to school. This is because it is their legal rights. However, if
legal measures are taken and that the girls are prevented from working in the factory, it will not
assist them but instead cause more problems. For example, forcing them to

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a modulation format that is being used
for many of the latest wireless and telecommunications standards.
OFDM has been adopted in the Wi Fi arena where the standards like 802.11a, 802.11n, 802.11ac
and more. It has also been chosen for the cellular telecommunications standard LTE / LTE A, and in
addition to this it has been adopted by other standards such as WiMAX and many more.
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing has also been adopted for a number of broadcast
standards from DAB Digital Radio to the Digital Video Broadcast standards, DVB. It has also
been adopted for other broadcast systems as well including Digital Radio Mondiale used for the
long medium and short wave bands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The resulting signal is integrated over the symbol period to regenerate the data from that carrier.
The same demodulator also demodulates the other carriers. As the carrier spacing equal to the
reciprocal of the symbol period means that they will have a whole number of cycles in the symbol
period and their contribution will sum to zero in other words there is no interference contribution.
The spectrum of an OFDM, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal
OFDM Spectrum
One requirement of the OFDM transmitting and receiving systems is that they must be linear. Any
non linearity will cause interference between the carriers as a result of inter modulation distortion.
This will introduce unwanted signals that would cause interference and impair the orthogonality of
the transmission.
In terms of the equipment to be used the high peak to average ratio of multi carrier systems such
as OFDM requires the RF final amplifier on the output of the transmitter to be able to handle the
peaks whilst the average power is much lower and this leads to inefficiency. In some systems the
peaks are limited. Although this introduces distortion that results in a higher level of data errors, the
system can rely on the error correction to remove them.
Data on OFDM
The data to be transmitted on an OFDM signal is spread across the carriers of the signal, each
carrier taking part of the payload. This reduces the data rate taken by each carrier. The lower data
rate has

What Is Bouguereau s Depiction Of The Young Shepherdess
The Young Shepherdess was painted in 1885 by William Adolphe Bouguereau on a 62 by 28
and a half inch canvas with oil paint, and is currently owned by the San Diego Museum of Art,
given as a gift to the museum in 1968 by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Larsen ( The Young
Shepherdess , 2014). The painting depicts a young woman tending to her flock of sheep. The
young woman in this painting appears to be a typical youth, she is assigned what are most likely
her chores for the day, to watch over this flock of sheep while they graze. Her body faces her
flock of sheep, but her head turns to face the viewer. She seems to be distracted, she is looking
away from the flock, almost appearing to gaze at the painting s viewer, but simultaneously looking

He demonstrated artistic talent as a youth, and was allowed to attend the drawing school of M.
Alaux. At this school, His fellow pupils, almost without exception, intended to be artists, and felt
a contempt for Bouguereau on account of his business occupations; thus, when at the end of the
year he took the prize for which all had striven, the excitement was so great that a riot occurred,
and the pupils made a formal protest against his receiving it, but without effect. (Erskine
Clement, 79 80). This type of reaction to Bouguereau s success became quite typical within the
art community. The impressionist and realist painters of his era despised his rigidly academic
style, and commercial incentives. He was paid top dollar for his works, and even though he had
great passion for his work, he realized that in order to succeed financially, his subjects must reflect
the tastes of the market. This is perhaps one of the most intriguing things about Bouguereau, that
despite the fact that his works were often commissioned, and that he was expected to paint certain
subjects, his work still showcased a remarkable amount of passion and energy. The most
successful period of his career was after his return to France in 1854, where he became an
immensely successful and influential exponent of academic art, upholding traditional values and
contriving to exclude avant garde work from the Salon (Chilvers, 68). This is the period in

Internet Gambling Essay
Abstract: Internet gambling has become one of the hottest areas of the web, both in the sheer
volume of sites and quantity of money involved. Increasing controversy is accompanying this new
industry, as federal and state government officials scramble to update legislation that restricts
interstate wagering. This paper examines the roots of Internet gambling and exposessome of the
motivations driving the heated debate over its legitimacy.
The business to consumer sector of the Internet commerce arena contains the most lucrative and
fastest growing web based industry: online gambling, which includes sports wagering, casino style
games and lotteries [1]. In a September 11th article from last year, Wired on line reported ... Show

After a Senate Judiciary Committee endorsed the bill 16 1[4], the measure moved to the House for
consideration in July 2000, where representatives currently deliberate on its merits [8].
Representative James Leach of Iowa then proposed the Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act,
which has also failed to become ratified. Introduced shortly after Kyl brought the of the Internet
Gambling Prohibition Act to the House, the bill had a two fold purpose: first, to prohibit online
gambling companies from knowingly accepting wagers placed on credit; and second, to absolve
unknowing financial intermediaries [i.e., credit card companies] of legal and monetary
responsibility when gamblers use their services for credit transactions [9]. The motivation for the
legislation may have come from the bizarre 1998 lawsuit filed in Marin County, CA by Cynthia
Haines, who lost $70,000 dollars through Internet wagers

The Need of Changing in Organizations
Organizations age, and grow seeking specific goals, while the organization constructs and
reconstructs a number of these organizations develop negative habits, and processes adapting to
changing circumstances. History and today s society has recognized that change is necessary to
meet the ever changing needs of the individuals and the environment. Today changes are
necessary to retain a competitive lead, or factors based on the economy. Change has never been
an easy process as resistance is always present, with impediments existing at all levels from the
organization as a whole down to individual staff members. The responsibility lies with the senior
managers to recognize the source and build a plan to remedy the resistance before it... Show more

Some individuals resist change for multiple reasons, and to add complexity, the stated reason hides
a more real personal reason. Initially the individuals experience denial, then realize that they cannot
ignore the change(s), and other feelings surface; such as anger, apprehension, frustration, and the
feeling of defenselessness. Individuals will either negatively accept the change with complacency
or resignation, or accept the change positively with enthusiasm for the new change(s). If any
individual is caught in a stage, leaders must offer reinforcement, and permitting the individual
space as the stage is worked through, and listen with empathy ( Resistance to change , n.d.).. The
proposed organizational change may influence the work habits developed by individuals and bad
habits are hard to break , but the bad habits have to be broken for the advancement of the
organization. The organizational change will bring individuals a feeling of insecurity and can
reveal itself in increased employee turnover and absenteeism and individuals may take an extreme
measure to avert changes from occurring (Akin, Dunford, Palmer, 2006). Then there are groups
within organizations may resist change, as groups tend to develop shared behaviors, and change
may possibly alter the group cultural dynamics disrupting

Why Did The US Involvement In Vietnam
The longest war in America s history of involvement was the Vietnam War. This war lasted almost
twenty years and it involved a lot of land mines, firing and deaths. Vietnam is a country in Southeast
Asia; it was run by France before it got separated in to north and south under the Geneva Accord.
The north was the communist area run by Ho Chin Minh, whereas the south was anti communist
run by Ngo Dinh Diem. Unhappy with the French rule, most of the Vietnamese moved to China,
there they started following Ho Chin Minh, who wanted to turn Vietnamin to a self governed
communist country free from the rule of any other country. Minh, with help and support of most
Vietnamese tried his best to overthrow the French rule and turn Vietnam into self governed... Show

Diem wanted the elections of 1956 to be canceled for the same reason as he knew Minh had a
larger following than he did. Diem being a catholic was not a favorable thing amongst a country
with a majority Buddhist population. This led to a rise of another regime in the south Vietnam
called the Vietcong. These people were against the rule of Diem and support the communist rule
of Minh. They were an extremely violent group, and they massacred a lot of Diem s political
and government officials. Minh was very happy with this uprising of this radical group and
wanted to support the Vietcong in every possible way. Minh started a trail called the Ho Chin
Minh trail which ran from the North Vietnam all the way through Thailand and Cambodia to
Saigon the capitol of the south. He supported the Vietcong with anything they needed through this
trail. With Minh gaining more power and diem losing his support of what little he had was a big
concern for the United States. The people of the south were tired of all the killings and bloodshed,
most villagers of the south were tortured and killed by the Vietcong this led to a constant state of
fear among these people. Diem decided to help these people by having them moved to safer
locations. President Kennedy, before his assassination had planned to pull out of the war but the

Persuasive Essay On Women Pay
If,for the same work, women make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, why don t
business hire only women? Wages are the biggest expense for most. So, hiring only women would
reduce costs by nearly a quarter and that would go right to the bottom line. Don t business want to
be profitable. Or, are they just really bad at math? Well, actually,it s the feminists, celebrities and
politicians spreading this wage gap myth who have the math problem. Here s why. The 77 cents on
the dollarstatistic is calculated by dividing the median earnings of all women working full time
by the median earnings of all men working full time. In other words, if the average income of all
men is, say, 40,000 dollars a year, and the average of women is say 30,800 dollars, that would mean
that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns . These calculations do not reveal a gender
wage injustice because it doesn t take it into account occupation, position, education or hours
worked per week. Even a study by the American Association of University Women, a feminist
organization, shows that the actual wage gap shrinks to only 6.6 cents when you factor in
differents choices men and women take. And the key word here is choice . The small wage gap
that does exist has nothing to do with paying women less, let alone with sexism ; it has to do with
differences in career choices that men and women make. In 2009, the US Department of Labor
released a paper that examined more than 50 percent reviewed

Renewable Energy In America
Fuel price seems to be the subject that always makes headlines on a regular basis. The United
States is the biggest consumer of energy in the world. Lucas Davis, a Berkeley Professor
conducted a study in 2013 on global oil consumption and found that the average American
consumes more than 300 gallons of gasolineannually. The amount is at least 200 gallons more than
other developed countries such as Germany, and France. (Davis, 2013) The high consumption
forces Americans to rely on foreign fuel sources since domestic energy is simply not enough to
satisfy the thirst. Rising fuel price coupled with fuel shortage scare are often a common concern for
every American, thus there needs to be an invention to stretch the supply in case of disaster.... Show

Ethanol did not become such a staple addition to gasoline until the 1970s due to fuel shortage
scare. Its use became even more prevalent in the early 2000s with the increase in global warming
awareness. The Renewable Fuels Association reports that the United States alone produced over
15 billion gallons of ethanol, a 14 billion gallons increase from its production in 1999 (Industry
Statistics, 2017). While ethanol is a clean energy when use, however, its production is not quite as
clean clean as it appears to be. Ethanol is considered renewable since the heartland of the United
States grows so much corn annually to supply the plant. The corn growing process is quite
damaging to the environment. Farming equipment runs on diesel fuel, which directly contributes to
the greenhouse gas production. The use of fertilizer and insect repellent chemical is harmful to soil
and atmosphere. The transportation of crops relies heavily on semi tractors that still heavily rely on
fossil fuel, thus exacerbate the problem. Not to mention that ethanol plants require electricity
primarily generated by coal fired power plants since it is much more efficient and a lot cheaper. All
these factors contribute to the global warming problem, the very problem that ethanol is supposed to

Jack s Hunger for Power in The Lord of the Flies Essay
Jack s Weakness The Lord of the Flies is a gruesome story about young boys stranded on an
island, who underwent a transformation from polite British choir boys to savage hooligans. One
of the main difficulties the boys face during their adventures upon the island, is their method of
government, they either follow the path of Ralph, the democratic leader whose main focus is to
escape the despairing island; or Jack a power hungry monarchical leader who won t ever take no

position. We all understand Ralph wants to be leader so that he can ensure that the boys will

Although, it is starting to seem as though this new Jack, has a decent life upon the island, why
would he ever want to change? Jack s violence that had once been simply part of his disguise,
seems to have become a part of him. And it seems to be something that Jack enjoys too much,
somewhat like a psychopath. Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of frenzy.
Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing his knife. Then Jack found the throat and the hot
blood spouted over his hands. Jack s original plan of creating a new personality for himself
seems to have gone to his head. And the psychopath within him has come alive. Once he
understands his situation upon the island Jack sees it as a fresh start where he can act as a
complete tyrant and have unlimited power, and by doing so, escape his fear of being publicly
embarrassed, ashamed and humiliated by other children. But his temporary personality change
seems to have completely changed him into the blood thirsty savage that he has become. This
situation can apply to so many events that have taken place throughout history. A great example
would be Salieri and Mozart, Salieri who loved music, believed himself to be a talented musician
and performer, until, Mozart. His jealousy and

conscious about what other people think about him Twinkle I can t have people I work with see

to be annoyed by the things that Twinkle does. For example she sometimes spat a little when she
spoke, or left her undergarments after removing them at night at the foot of their bed rather than
depositing them in the laundry hamper (Lahiri 142). It seems that Sanjeev becomes jealous of the
way people are reacting to her and not him; she had everyone s attention, your wife s wow (Lahiri

Levy is shown in some scenes through Cliff s movie. Prof. Levy basically explains that life is a
great thing, and it s naturally neutral, but humans inflict their feelings onto life, and humans can
live life through making their own decisions and trying to be happy. Prof. Levy says that life is
good, morality is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite
these positive ideas, the professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out
the window . This is an incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook
and ideology a person has on life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself
because he understood how simple life was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and
that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we
create bad and good, we create God, we accept God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we
are no longer happy, and then we die. Humans make life difficult and complex, and I think
Woody Allen uses the professor to show this. Prof. Levy knew this, and so he ended his life
because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His suicide note is simple
and straightforward; the way death is. No matter what a person s belief, no matter how simple or
complex life can be, death is always straightforward. This whole movie discusses a few lives and

The Responsibility Of Being A Project Manager
Taking on the responsibility of being a project manager can be multidimensional and very
demanding but rewarding at the end. The roles of a project manager has the total responsibility for
the successful planning, execution, monitoring, control and closure of a project. After a project
manager take on a tasks that s has been assigned to him/her from a client, the job is just beginning.
They must first understand and have general knowledge about the task that has been put in their
hand. The mission starts with assembling an all star team that will be able to assist you in every
aspect as the project go along, next, the project managerand selected team should start piecing
together a strategy that correlates with the project schedule to ensure every deadline will be
made on or before time, also enforce strong communication throughout the project, and set
milestones and follow up at each interval to assess the progress at every phase until the project is
complete. A project manager must be dedicated to the project assigned from beginning to end. It
will consume a lot of your time, but you will be overjoyed with a successful project at the end and
say it was all well worth the stress, long days and sleepless nights.
Being a project manager means you have to be able to keep up in a fast pace environment often
filled with conflicting deadlines that takes precedence over your personal endeavors. There will be
times when you think you have everything under control, but

Analysis Of Four-Bar Mechanion
Introduction
The four bar linkage mechanism has been introduced in the early 1970 s. Mechanical substitutes
(prosthesis) for human lower limbs have advanced from small tree trunks shaped into peg legs in
ancient times to today s sophisticated prosthesis with controlled motion. Nowadays, the linkage is
implemented in persons with above knee and through knee amputations.
The goal of this project is to gather information based on the four bar mechanism found in a
prosthetic leg with an artificial knee joint, and to use that knowledge to determine the forces and
movements that are present in the mechanism. Also, we are to determine how a joint clearance and
link flexibility can affect the overall performance of the mechanism. We plan on... Show more

The Four bar knee linkage can still be improved, such as creating types of linkages that allow safe
stance phase, have low energy consumption and be light as possible. With all of these
disadvantages in mind, people who make prosthetics should be able to analyze and define the
unique qualities of the system in order to confidently create custom four bar knees for specific
customers.
A four bar knee mechanism with two joints having clearance can have a dynamic response. One
of the important factors that influence the dynamic stability and the performance of mechanisms
is the joint clearance. The clearances always exist in the kinematic joints and they are known to
be the sources for impact forces. These forces are the source of unwanted vibration that can cause
a decrease in the reliability and life of the mechanism. The dynamic behavior of a four bar
mechanism with a clearance at any one of its connections can be described using a quasi static
model. The results showed that, in the presence of clearance, the mechanism responses were greatly
influenced, and the coupler flexibility had a role of suspension for the mechanism. Kinematic
analysis of the mechanism includes the determination of displacements, velocities and accelerations
of the mass centers of moving links. As a practical implication, the proposed optimized values of
the design variables lead to a

Legal Implications Of A Health And Disability Commissioner...
In New Zealand we have legal institutions who provide a foundation for which to regulate the
consumption and delivery of health services. These include Health and Disability
Commissioner, Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Review Tribunal and New Zealand
Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal. Health and Disability Commissioner Act aims to
encourage and defend the rights of the consumers of health and disability services, and to
effectively resolve the complaints concerning the quality of health and disability services in
New Zealand. This essay will aim explore the functions of this method through explaining the
legal implications of a Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) opinion. HDC case

RN C also failed to facilitate a safe handover of the patient to the ambulance and failed in giving
any assistance or monitoring of her condition while the ambulance was on the way. The role of
criminal and civil law in healthcare practices will also be discussed. The Health and Disability
Commissioner Act 1994 came into place by Judge Cartwright as a response to the 1988 Cervical
Cancer inquiry Report. The Act is a means to simplify protection of the rights of all health and
disability services as well as ensuring fair, efficient and swift resolution of complaints (HDC,

Euripides Hippolytus
Euripides Hippolytus shows three key themes that are significant to the play, by showing the
theme of lust, honour and betrayal which are shown from the lines 490 512, they set up the flow
of the play and relates directly to the dramatic conflict between the lust and continence of Phaedra
and Hippolytus, this scene shows Phaedra to be the true central character of the play since her
actions are pivotal to the fate Hippolytus and herself.
The extract epitomises the theme of lust. In the exchange the nurse encourages Phaedra to give in
to her lust to cure her feelings, I would never egg you on like this to get you into bed with your
man. (Euripides, 2003, Line 494). This suggests that instead of fighting the feelings in silence as

This scene gives an insight in to the character of Phaedra as opposed to the effect Aphrodite has
had over her. The scene shows that Phaedra is disgusted by the nurse s insistence on bedding
Hippolytus, what an appalling thing to say! (Euripides, 2003, Line 498) Phaedra s reaction to the
nurse encouragement of adultery shows that her honour and virtue is of more importance, but she
is losing her battle, I shall be consumed in what I am trying to shun (Euripides, 2003, Line 506).
The nurse however does not see the implications that acting upon Phaedra s feelings would have.
This shows the significance of the scene as it sets the flow of the play and leads to the death of
both Phaedra and Hippolytus.
Betrayal is a theme throughout Euripides Hippolytus, in the exchange between the nurse and
Phaedra the theme of betrayal is alluded to, the nurse attempts to convince Phaedra to betray
Theseus by giving in to her emotions to cure her of her lust for Hippolytus. Phaedra is unwilling to

I Am A New Alarm Clock
YESTERDAY (3.4)
I awoke to hear my alarm going off, an audial reminder that it was 6:30, time to begin my day.
Lazily I stretched out my hand, fumbling about trying to search for the snooze button, while all
along the vociferous rhythmic beeping continued. Finally with a burst of energy I sat up, and
slammed the snooze button. I needed to get a new alarm clock, one with all the latest bell and
whistles although my alarm was perfectly satisfactory. George got this new alarm clock with smart
phone connectivity ... and won t stop talking about it, until I get mine. My day continued as normal,
turning on the T.V as I dragged myself to the bathroom, catching a glance of the new iPhonead
before I stepped into bathroom. Turning on the shower on full blast, hot water streaming down,
I closed my eyes. I felt drained although I had just awoke. Work was tedious and after working so
hard, all I could now focus on was my trip to London next week, flying first class to purchase
designer furniture for my new house. Everyone at work would be red with envy, once they heard
about my trip. I heard London is big for its designer clothes, a perfect place for me to spend some
money, buy a new wardrobe maybe.
I abruptly turned off the shower and opened my eyes, I was going to be late. Hurriedly I got

Learning Styles And The Learning Style
In this essay I will be exploring the importance of learning styles and the effectiveness of them to
student nurses, providing evidence from learning theories and also acknowledging David Kolb s
experiential cycle (1984). Furthermore, I will be discussing my dominant learning style, providing
the advantages and disadvantages of my learningstyle on my learning and development,
considering the various ways I can improve my learning. I will also explain my weaker learning
style and express the different ways I can improve it, in making it an effective learning style for me
to improve the quality of my learning.
The Oxford dictionary of English (2010) defines learning as the acquisition of knowledge or skills
through study, experience or being taught . Each individual has their own preferred style of
learning, for example some individuals may prefer visual learning rather than text based learning
(Hughes, 2002). Due to each individual having and understanding their own preferred method of
learning, this helps them to process information and learning new things.
As a student nurse, it is vital that you understand how you learning because, this could have an
impact on your learning. Adding to this, being able to identify your learning style will help you to
make an understanding of something you do not understand. As a student nurse, I believe that

The Country Music Culture
There are thousands of musical cultures that are found and known in this world. Every continent
around the globe has its own musical cultures dated as early as 500 AD and since then, have
developed and being spread across the globe throughout the centuries. This development comes with
different histories, background, stories and its effect in the aspect of cultural development or
cultural identity. My writing however, will not talk about all of these musical cultures and how
they have develop since then, but I would like to study and write about one specific musical

Medical Malpractice And Its Effects
Medical Malpractice and Its Effects According to the American Bar Association Medical
malpractice is defined as negligence committed by a professional health care provider a doctor,
nurse, dentist, technician, hospital or hospital worker whose performance of duties departs from a
standard of practice of those with similar training and experience, resulting in harm to a patient or
patient s . Medical malpracticemakes it hard for physicians to do their job without having the fears
of getting sued. This can impact their judgment and distract them from getting their jobs done the
right way. When people think of medical malpractice they only see how it impacts the victim or
the person who is suing the doctor, but do they ever wonder how it affects the doctors and those
who are in the medical field? Do they think about how medical malpractice impacts the
administration of proper medicine? Now, this is the reason why society should care if our medical
personnel are failing to do their job or why you should it care collectively about a physicianwho
was sued in the past, but won the case? Medical malpractice doesn t only have negative effects on
the patient. I understand that the patient has to deal with emotional and/or physical distress as
well. Their entire lives are uprooted and they have to make a lot of adjustments as necessary. I am
sympathetic to the families who are affected. I feel the same for the affected physicians who have

The Responsibility Of 911 Attacks
Have you ever think of the US should take the responsibility of 911 attacks? September 11
attacks, the deadliest terrorist attack in world history, were a series of airline hijacking by
nineteen militants of an Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda. The hijackers, along with the suicide
bombers, seized four US commercial jets and crashed them into US s landmarks, Twins tower of
World Trader Center and the Pentagon, at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2011. The notorious Al Qaeda
chief Osama bin Laden masterminded the attacks. According to CNN News, the September 11
attackskilled 2,966 people and injured more than 6,000 citizens in New York City (CNN).
Moreover, as reported by Health Department WTC s Health Registry, the attacks brought on the
post traumatic stress disorder, and they concluded that 1,140 people who worked near the
Manhattan and the New York City at the time are diagnosed with cancer caused by exposure to
toxins at Ground Zero (Bendix). On September 11, President George W Bush addressed a
plausible but flawed explanation, America was targeted for attack because we re the brightest
beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining
(The Boston Globe), which indirectly reveals that Bush is blaming Muslims for the fault for 911
attacks. While most of the Americans believe that Muslims are fully responsible for the 911
attacks, the U.S involvement in Middle East affairs and the exploitation of Middle East resources

Massachusetts Colony Compare And Contrast Essay
How were the colonies and the colonists that lived in Maryland and Massachusetts similar and
different? The similarities and differences between the Maryland and Massachusetts colony are
clear.
The Maryland and Massachusetts colonies had many traits in common. Both colonies had similar
geography. They were both located next to the coast and had great land for farming. Maryland was
known for it s low fertile land for agriculture and it s thriving ports and shipping business. Similarly,
the colonists of Massachusetts used the rich soil provided to them to raise food and they worked in
the shipping industry also. at ports. Also, both the two colonies had cold winters and warm and

Community Policing And The Neighborhood Watch Program
One advantage of community policing is forming neighborhood watch programs which benefit
both police and citizens. Citizens and police work together to discourage criminal behavior and
find solutions to crime (Take Action, n.d.). Neighborhood watch entails educating members on
security and suspicious behaviors such as a person screaming for help, strange noises, a person
looking in cars widows, strangers in cars talking to children and property being taken out of a house
when the resident is not home. Neighborhood watchmembers are not vigilantes as they help police
by looking out for suspicious occurrences and then report it to law enforcement (Neighborhood
Watch, 2015). In my community Neighborhood Watch keeps drug dealers from selling drugs in
the lobby s and building grounds. The sale and use of drugs had previously accumulated a large
amount of violence which has been largely reduced or eliminated by community policing and the
Neighborhood Watch program. Another advantage of community policing is social media as it
gives police and citizens a way to send and receive information to one another with a much
broader range than neighborhood watch; which is only limited to a specific community. When
police are looking for an offender he or she can reach a nationwide audience by tweeting and/or
posting it on his or her social media page so that followers can repost the offender s information
and/or give any helpful information to police to apprehend the offender

Factors that Cause The Great Schism Essay examples
Factors that Cause The Great Schism Part A Introduction The first major division in Christianity
took place in 1054 CE between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. This event is known
as the Great Schism. The two areas of disagreement that caused the division were: * Who should be
leader of the Christian Church? * The way in which the Trinity was to be understood. Christians in
the West believed that the Pope should be the leader of the Christian Church. This was because he
was the successor to St Peter. The Christians in the east did not agree with this. They could not
accept that only one person could have the authority to decide the church matters. Landmarks...

Ambiguity In Carmilla
The quickest way of describing Carmilla is as a Victorian lesbian vampire novel.
This tends to raise a couple eyebrows in the room, so let me take a deep breath and explain that
Carmilla is a gothic novel written during the Victorian era that addresses issues like ambiguity,
memory, transgressive sexuality, and gives insight into the tensions that existed between
Catholicism and Protestantism, Ireland and England.
At face value, the novel hardly makes any mention of the political and social turmoil that was
present during the time. Carmilla is the frame tale of a young aristocrat, Laura, whose isolation is
broken by the appearance of the titular character. Although Carmilla ends up staying with Laura by
accident , Carmilla is really a century long dead vampire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I chose to set my Carmilla pictures against a similar background (of copper, however, and not of
gold), because I wanted to invoke a sense of the numinous, of something that transcended time,
space, and physical boundaries, just as Carmilla managed to transcend boundaries within the
text. Yet at the same time, Carmilla is the living dead, and not an abstract philosophical poster
child, so while the background and shape of the hands were left loose and undefined, I added
shadows and dimension to the hand itself to evoke Carmilla s ties to the physical world. Finally,
each picture is of two hands in various poses, and I sought to represent the reciprocal nature of
Carmilla and Laura s relationship, as well as their ambiguous roles by making it unclear whose
hand was whose. Each pose is ambiguous in the hands relationship to each other, and there is no
clear aggressor or victim, Ireland or England, Protestant or Catholic,
Laura or Carmilla.
The reason that I am so attracted to this sprawling rabbit trail of a topic (and the reason why I
would highly recommend everyone to pick up this novel for a try) is because of the

Education Act 1996 Case Study
1.1.8The Education Act 1996 Education Act 1996 places a legal duty on the parent or guardian
of a child aged five to sixteen years (known as compulsory school age), to ensure that their
children or child attends and receives full time education, either in a traditional school or any
other means that is appropriate for their age, ability, and aptitude, taking into account any special
needs they may have. The Act makes it a criminal offense for a parent or guardian to take their
child out of school without authorisation from the school, and an offense for parents who are
aware that their child is failing to attend school to not take reasonable action to ensure that the
child attends. The offense of failing to ensure regular attendance at school is punishable by up
to three months imprisonment and/or fine up to one thousand pounds. 1 Where a child is not
attending school regularly, the Local Education Authority (LEA) has the option of taking
criminal or civil action against the parent or guardian. It may then decide to mount a prosecution
for breach of s 444 of the 1996 Act, just as it can for breach of s 443. Before the 1989 Children Act,
the LEA was obliged to consider whether it was appropriate to bring care proceedings based on
truancy and failure by the parent or guardian. A review by DHSS reasoned that care proceedings
were inappropriate where the problem was the child s absenteeism. Where the child s absences
were part of the wider family problem and the child

Figurative Language In Sailing The Byzantium
Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B.
Yeats n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose poetry reflects
his fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates
how William Butler Yeatsuse of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels between ancient
civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity.
Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the holy city seeking intellectual
refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of figurative language elicits both
the somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem.... Show more content on

At the beginning of the second stanza, Yeats use of the metonymic phrase: Aged man...A tattered
coat upon a stick poignantly conveys the not only narrator s image of his own aging mortal form
but the insignificance of his existence among his youthful countrymen (Lines 9,10). Most notably,
the use of dramatic metaphors in Line 11 and 12, Soul clap its hands and sing...but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence , personifies the soul as a song. In addition, it articulates the
idea that one s soul achieves perpetuity, not through sensual song, but through the erudition of
ancient civilization (Yeats, Lines 7, 11,14). Yeats use of apostrophe and simile in Lines 17 22: O
sages ...As in gold mosaic ...Come from the holy fire, perne in gyre...Consume my heart away; sick
with desire And fastened to a dying animal , illuminates the narrator s yearning to relinquish earthly
chains. Furthermore, his use of assonance in Line 19, by which he accentuates the long i sound of

critical step to making the transition smoother. The high score in the architecture compatibility

customize the off the shelf package to meet the requirements that Harley Davidson has

Analysis Of The Book Little Red Cap By Angela Carter
Fairytales subvert, challenge or reaffirm archetypal values through didactic lenses. The presence of
universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature,
can be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter
s The Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all
promote their hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of
their time period. Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these
fairytale adaptations can retain their archetypal valueand thus remain significant and relevant in
contemporary circumstances.
The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context
through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national
cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little
Red Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience.
Initially in the tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as
a sweet little girl and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the
engrained virtue of her youth. The instruction for Little Red Cap to not stray from the path
foreshadows the inherent danger associated with a misguided venture. The symbolism of

Shakespeare is known for a multitude of things; His ability to make a play both funny and
dramatic, his compelling and complex story lines, his multi dimensional characters and last but not
least, his strong female leads. Some of his female characters are celebrated to this day for being
original and fierce in their convictions. One thing that makes his female leads really stand out is the
fact that they were created in a time when patriarchy and female submission were norms among
society. They challenged gendernorms, and though he was not the first to write such strong female
characters, he was one of the most widely recognized playwrights of that time. His larger audience

It is believed that he was born in April of 1564. At this point in time, Elizabeth had been on the
throne for just about six years. By the time Shakespeare moved to London in the mid 1580 s, there
had already been a definite shift in political and social mindset, but largely, the norms were the
same as they had always been. For women at this time, there was not a whole lot of decision
making that was left up to them. For the most part, their parents (primarily, their fathers) would
auction them off to the highest bidder. If a woman chose to remain single or was undesirable to
suitors, any responsibility for her finances and well being would fall on the eldest male relative
(Father or Brother). Marriage was the only way for a woman to acquire any title or land. Even
when married, the woman was still entitled to nothing, and had very little options to make money
even if they were allowed to. The only available professions to them were that of housework or
service to nobles. They were not allowed to Act, and it was because of this that most of the plays

Starbucks Financial Ratios
If you were an accountant for a potential investor in this company, explain which of these ratios
would be of the most interest to you. In your opinion, what other ratio or ratios beyond the ones
listed above should also be considered in an investment context?
Investors refer to people who willingly input money into a business with the expectations of a
return in future. Normally, investors have an interest in all the ratios as they indicate the financial
health of a firm. One of the most important ratios to potential investors is return on shareholders
equity. The ratio measures the percentage return that investors get for every dollar of their
investment in a company. For example, from the calculation above, Macy s Inc shareholders got a
25.18% for every dollar invested in year 2015. A high ROE is an indicator of high returns to the

Investors are risk averse and want to be sure that they will get back value for their money from a
company. The ratio analyses the business s ability to pay interest expense i.e. how many times the
company s earnings can cover interest costs. The higher the ratio, the better the company s
liquidity. Use of financial leverage has been known to lead to bankruptcy of companies hence the
need to ensure that a business can pay back financing costs before making an investment. There are
several other ratios that should be considered in an investment context including P/E ratio, debt to
equity ratio, dividend yield and asset turnover ratio. P/E ratio indicates how much money an
investor is willing to pay to acquire one unit of a company based on the earnings. The ratio is often
indicates whether a company is overvalued or undervalued. A high P/E ratio is a sigh that investors
expect the company to provide higher returns in the future. Thus, this ratio enables potential

Environmental Ethics And Environmental Safety
Environmental ethics can be formally defined in many sources as the study of human interaction
with nature. In a business sense, however, environmental ethics is concerned with the business duty
or responsibility to protect our overall environment. Our society is beginning to become more
involved with the environmental movement. Because of this, people are more concerned with the
companies and businesses that they support in regards to their concern towards our environment.
Some argue that businesses should be attempting to protect our environment over and above what
is required by United States Law. Doesn t it seem the only ethical thing to do? In this paper I will
elaborate about environmental compliance obligations, businesses and environmental ethics
movements, as well as what companies have been trying to do to become more ethical when it
comes to our environment that goes above and beyond the law. The survival and growth of green
businesses in the U.S. is increasingly large. Environmental compliance obligations are monitored by
the EPA, or the Environmental Protection Agency. Their basic mission is quite simplistic in that
they need to protect human health and the overall environment. EPA, state, local and tribal agencies
work together to ensure compliance with environmental laws passed by Congress, state legislatures
and tribal governments (Introduction: Environmental Enforcement and Compliance, n.d.). These
groups all work together to ensure

What Is The Book Me Before You It By Jojo Moyes
The book that I read was Me Before You it is written by Jojo Moyes. This book turned out to be
one of my favorites. This book is about a girl who lives in a small town in England. Her name
was Louise Clark everyone called her Lou. At first she was working in a cafГ© until the man
who owned it unexpectedly announced that he would be shutting the place down, this left Lou
out a job. Her family was very disappointed because Lou helped her whole family out a whole lot
with money because they were going through tough times. Lou went back to the job center and
tried to find a job. There was nothing that she thought she could do until one day Syd the man at
the job center told her about a caregiver job. Lou was not sure about Caregiving because she didn
t feel as though she would be able to handle it, but she did not turn it down she gave it a try. This
is how she met Will, Will Traynor is the one Lou was going to be taking care of because he was hit
by a motorcycle and it left him paralyzed. It took quite awhile for Lou and Will to become good
friends but it did happen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason I see the weather is because when Will told Lou about the accident and how a
motorcycle hit him it was raining that day. It made me think of this chapter because rain can
always have a deeper meaning and Will was running towards a taxi trying not to get all soaked
and I just think what if it was sunny? Would there have been a different outcome? Rain always
has a sad feeling for some people and for Will that day I think it was a very sad day and I related
it to this chapter because I think the rain had a profounder meaning than just it was raining that

Relationship Between Europeans And Native Americans
The picture that one detects when thinking of the relationship between Native Americans and
Europeans is depicted by circumstances that eventually shaped the New World. It is hard to
imagine how different the world would be if today s society still used ancient indian traditions.
A certain study indicated that the swamps where the indians lived in the Chesapeake were full
of casualties. It was filled with disease and a vast variety of illnesses. With the high risk for
disease it forced the Europeans to adjust several social forms that were being brought over from
England. Alienated from the remainder of the world, the indians did not have a strong enough
immune system to defend the diseases. This epidemic caused major dissolution in the not only the
villages, but also within the European immigrants and african slaves. With the loss of older
natives, this also meant loss of their heritage. Centuries of traditions, talents, and artistry were
strayed. The sickness cause many of the elders to perish at once, meaning many of the traditions
died along with them. Many Indians never even saw the face of a white or black man. As a result
of the deaths, it is hard to imagine what traditions we might have carried on still to this day if so
many had not perished. Although the Indians had many admirable talents, the Europeans respect
for the natives was microscopic. Europeans from different parts of the world had conflicting
viewpoints of how Indians should be treated. In the, Native

Shoemaker Levy 9 Research Paper
Soon after being discovered, the comet, Shoemaker Levy 9 began to make it s mark on Jupiter
and even bigger impact on Earth. In 1994 a recently identified comet crashed into the gaseous
surface of what we call Jupiter. Not only did this happen thirteen years ago, but we can still see
evidence of the comet s impact to this day. In March of 1993 a small group of astronomers
known for discovering many other comets laid eyes upon the soon to be Shoemaker Levy 9
comet. Their names being David Levy and Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker gave way to the comet
s name, Shoemaker Levy 9. The 9 however, was added to symbolize that they had numbered the
comets they had discovered before and this one happened to be the ninth Shoemaker Levy comet.
This comet began

Rock N Roll In The 1950s
Rock n Roll in the 1950s: The change in America
Music as a whole blends together. One style leads to another, the music becomes more progressive.
It evolves to fit the new generation, leaving the old generation behind. From the spritual songs of
the late 1800s to the gospel of the early 1900s. Then it changed into rhythm and blues, and when the
1950s rolled around it became Rock n Roll. With the invention of new iconic instruments like the
Fender Precision Bass and then the Fender Stratocaster, the sound of the music changed. The sound
that was soft and low was now crunchy and loud. While it did not sit well with the adults, it was a
hit among the new generation. Even the African American roots of the music didn t deter the youth

To which they did not approve. They felt it had a rebellious nature. And lead to teens not being
more defiant, and less conforming. But most of all they hated who played the music. Most of the
musicians and music writers were African American. Even though they had earned the respect of
many people while fighting in WWII, their culture was still shunned by most of the public. But
Rock was all about being insobordinate. The fact that the parents hated it made it even more
popular among the teens. The parents might have had their own little pet names about it calling it
as blues legend B.B. King said in an interview with The Guardian, the Black Chittlin circuit. But to
the youth it was just music. The acceptance of this generation was going to bring a new opportunity
for Black America in the fight for civil rights.
Even with the definite roots in Black culture, most of the main performers however were white.
Take Elvis Presley for example, the songs he sang were the normal blues rock style, but he was
white. He was still part of the culture, he was thought as black. It was a common saying among
the musicians at the time was that If you were white and played blues you were black once. These
Black roots and White musicians led to this music being called a black and white hybrid. This fact
was what turned away most adults from this

Capital One
Capital One Financial Corporation
1. How is Capital One s use of IT different from other mass customization strategies? Capital One
uses IT through its information based strategy (IBS) to record, organize, and analyze data on the
characteristics and behaviors of their customers, as stated by CEO Richard Fairbank. Their
philosophy was to exploit information by constructing scientific models that could be used to both
assess the creditworthiness of potential cardholders through FICO scoring, and to customize
product offerings for existing ones. This was done through data mining, sorting, customizing offers
and marketing campaigns, and then analyzing this data to see what campaigns worked for what
reason and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Behavioral interviews, case interviews, and standardized tests were used to find raw talent without
focusing on prior industry or marketing experience. These four things are what separates Capital
One from its competition, and will sustain their competitive advantage in the future.
3. What are the consequences of Capital One s IT strategy for expansion into different segments of
the credit card industry, and into other industry s? The immediate consequences of their expansion
strategy proved the efficiency of their statistical modeling to inhibit Capital One from taking any
missteps into industry s that are either saturated or do not allow enough growth in the future.
Capital One considered expanding into auto insurance and auto financing, but fierce competition,
low margins, and stringent regulation kept them from pursuing this immediately. (Capital One did
recently acquire Summit Acceptance Corporation an auto financing company that focused on the
sub prime market). Next they looked at the energy and telecom industries, but consumer energy
usage patterns are available publicly which kept them from exploring this option further. America
One was created which resold blocks of calling time enabling Capital One to gain a foothold in
telecom. An ancillary effect of Capital One looking to broaden its horizons into other industries will
promote other companies to review their current IT systems to see where their inefficiencies lie, so
they can

When operation and surgery come up in conversation the main person that is highlighted is the
surgeon but there is a large team of people behind the surgeon assisting him at every step. The
operating room is a very different experience then being on a general hospital floor. The operating
room gives the perspective on what happens, in some cases, before the get to the hospital floor. The
purpose of this paper is to identify the clients risk for complications during and after the procedure,
identify teaching opportunities and appropriate topics, identify different tasks done preoperatively,
intraoperatively and postoperatively
The patient was a 69 year old male. He was experiencing fluid buildup around his previous knee

Immigration Pull Factors
The West during the 1800 was seen as a better place for a future, the American dream. People
migrated because of push and pull factors. Push factors cause people to leave home and can
include war, no freedom of religion, danger, few job or education opportunities. While pull factors
draw people to a new country because it is the opposite of what is occurring back home, what they
seek. Immigrants are often motivated by both factors. Beginning in the late 1800s, more than 30
million Europeans came to America to escape from push factors and were attracted to the freedom
America granted and job opportunities. Push factors that caused the immigration was the poverty
they had to face, loss of land, unemployment, and persecution based on one s

  • 2. Human Freedom, Consciousness, And Reality Human Freedom, Consciousness, and Reality There are a number of situations in which reasonable minds can disagree. Businesses normally face such situations. For example, a company situated in country A may be selling clothes from country C. It happens that the media has been criticizing the company for selling products, which are believed to be produced by children. Suppose the company conducts research and find out that the clothes it is selling are made by children. The investigations also shows that it is not the girls fault nor is the company s fault to have the girls who are still young employed in such a company. It also shows that the society does not educate girls beyond the sixth grade. To worsen the situation,, the researcher found that the society is poor and cannot provide the basic needs to the young girls. The respondent reveals if you shut this plant down, you will literally take food off the table for these families and that there are no other opportunities in the town. This means that preventing the employment of young girls would cause more problems than improve their situation. On the other hand, laws from country A may prohibit the child labor. Some thinkers may believe that the young children should be allowed to go to school. This is because it is their legal rights. However, if legal measures are taken and that the girls are prevented from working in the factory, it will not assist them but instead cause more problems. For example, forcing them to ... Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a modulation format that is being used for many of the latest wireless and telecommunications standards. OFDM has been adopted in the Wi Fi arena where the standards like 802.11a, 802.11n, 802.11ac and more. It has also been chosen for the cellular telecommunications standard LTE / LTE A, and in addition to this it has been adopted by other standards such as WiMAX and many more. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing has also been adopted for a number of broadcast standards from DAB Digital Radio to the Digital Video Broadcast standards, DVB. It has also been adopted for other broadcast systems as well including Digital Radio Mondiale used for the long medium and short wave bands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The resulting signal is integrated over the symbol period to regenerate the data from that carrier. The same demodulator also demodulates the other carriers. As the carrier spacing equal to the reciprocal of the symbol period means that they will have a whole number of cycles in the symbol period and their contribution will sum to zero in other words there is no interference contribution. The spectrum of an OFDM, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal OFDM Spectrum One requirement of the OFDM transmitting and receiving systems is that they must be linear. Any non linearity will cause interference between the carriers as a result of inter modulation distortion. This will introduce unwanted signals that would cause interference and impair the orthogonality of the transmission. In terms of the equipment to be used the high peak to average ratio of multi carrier systems such as OFDM requires the RF final amplifier on the output of the transmitter to be able to handle the peaks whilst the average power is much lower and this leads to inefficiency. In some systems the peaks are limited. Although this introduces distortion that results in a higher level of data errors, the system can rely on the error correction to remove them. Data on OFDM The data to be transmitted on an OFDM signal is spread across the carriers of the signal, each carrier taking part of the payload. This reduces the data rate taken by each carrier. The lower data rate has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is Bouguereau s Depiction Of The Young Shepherdess The Young Shepherdess was painted in 1885 by William Adolphe Bouguereau on a 62 by 28 and a half inch canvas with oil paint, and is currently owned by the San Diego Museum of Art, given as a gift to the museum in 1968 by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Larsen ( The Young Shepherdess , 2014). The painting depicts a young woman tending to her flock of sheep. The young woman in this painting appears to be a typical youth, she is assigned what are most likely her chores for the day, to watch over this flock of sheep while they graze. Her body faces her flock of sheep, but her head turns to face the viewer. She seems to be distracted, she is looking away from the flock, almost appearing to gaze at the painting s viewer, but simultaneously looking past that,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He demonstrated artistic talent as a youth, and was allowed to attend the drawing school of M. Alaux. At this school, His fellow pupils, almost without exception, intended to be artists, and felt a contempt for Bouguereau on account of his business occupations; thus, when at the end of the year he took the prize for which all had striven, the excitement was so great that a riot occurred, and the pupils made a formal protest against his receiving it, but without effect. (Erskine Clement, 79 80). This type of reaction to Bouguereau s success became quite typical within the art community. The impressionist and realist painters of his era despised his rigidly academic style, and commercial incentives. He was paid top dollar for his works, and even though he had great passion for his work, he realized that in order to succeed financially, his subjects must reflect the tastes of the market. This is perhaps one of the most intriguing things about Bouguereau, that despite the fact that his works were often commissioned, and that he was expected to paint certain subjects, his work still showcased a remarkable amount of passion and energy. The most successful period of his career was after his return to France in 1854, where he became an immensely successful and influential exponent of academic art, upholding traditional values and contriving to exclude avant garde work from the Salon (Chilvers, 68). This is the period in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Internet Gambling Essay Abstract: Internet gambling has become one of the hottest areas of the web, both in the sheer volume of sites and quantity of money involved. Increasing controversy is accompanying this new industry, as federal and state government officials scramble to update legislation that restricts interstate wagering. This paper examines the roots of Internet gambling and exposessome of the motivations driving the heated debate over its legitimacy. Introduced shortly after Kyl brought the of the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act to the House, the bill had a two fold purpose: first, to prohibit online gambling companies from knowingly accepting wagers placed on credit; and second, to absolve unknowing financial intermediaries [i.e., credit card companies] of legal and monetary responsibility when gamblers use their services for credit transactions [9]. The motivation for the legislation may have come from the bizarre 1998 lawsuit filed in Marin County, CA by Cynthia Haines, who lost $70,000 dollars through Internet wagers ... The Need of Changing in Organizations Organizations age, and grow seeking specific goals, while the organization constructs and reconstructs a number of these organizations develop negative habits, and processes adapting to changing circumstances. History and today s society has recognized that change is necessary to meet the ever changing needs of the individuals and the environment. Today changes are necessary to retain a competitive lead, or factors based on the economy. Individuals will either negatively accept the change with complacency or resignation, or accept the change positively with enthusiasm for the new change(s). The proposed organizational change may influence the work habits developed by individuals and bad habits are hard to break , but the bad habits have to be broken for the advancement of the organization. The organizational change will bring individuals a feeling of insecurity and can reveal itself in increased employee turnover and absenteeism and individuals may take an extreme measure to avert changes from occurring (Akin, Dunford, Palmer, 2006). • 8. Persuasive Essay On Women Pay If,for the same work, women make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, why don t business hire only women? Wages are the biggest expense for most. So, hiring only women would reduce costs by nearly a quarter and that would go right to the bottom line. Don t business want to be profitable. Or, are they just really bad at math? Well, actually,it s the feminists, celebrities and politicians spreading this wage gap myth who have the math problem. Here s why. The 77 cents on the dollarstatistic is calculated by dividing the median earnings of all women working full time by the median earnings of all men working full time. In other words, if the average income of all men is, say, 40,000 dollars a year, and the average of women is say 30,800 dollars, that would mean that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns . These calculations do not reveal a gender wage injustice because it doesn t take it into account occupation, position, education or hours worked per week. Even a study by the American Association of University Women, a feminist organization, shows that the actual wage gap shrinks to only 6.6 cents when you factor in differents choices men and women take. And the key word here is choice . The small wage gap that does exist has nothing to do with paying women less, let alone with sexism ; it has to do with differences in career choices that men and women make. • 9. Renewable Energy In America Fuel price seems to be the subject that always makes headlines on a regular basis. The United States is the biggest consumer of energy in the world. Lucas Davis, a Berkeley Professor conducted a study in 2013 on global oil consumption and found that the average American consumes more than 300 gallons of gasolineannually. The amount is at least 200 gallons more than other developed countries such as Germany, and France. (Davis, 2013) The high consumption forces Americans to rely on foreign fuel sources since domestic energy is simply not enough to satisfy the thirst. Rising fuel price coupled with fuel shortage scare are often a common concern for every American, thus there needs to be an invention to stretch the supply in case of disaster.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethanol did not become such a staple addition to gasoline until the 1970s due to fuel shortage scare. Its use became even more prevalent in the early 2000s with the increase in global warming awareness. The Renewable Fuels Association reports that the United States alone produced over 15 billion gallons of ethanol, a 14 billion gallons increase from its production in 1999 (Industry Statistics, 2017). While ethanol is a clean energy when use, however, its production is not quite as clean clean as it appears to be. Ethanol is considered renewable since the heartland of the United States grows so much corn annually to supply the plant. The corn growing process is quite damaging to the environment. Farming equipment runs on diesel fuel, which directly contributes to the greenhouse gas production. The use of fertilizer and insect repellent chemical is harmful to soil and atmosphere. The transportation of crops relies heavily on semi tractors that still heavily rely on fossil fuel, thus exacerbate the problem. Not to mention that ethanol plants require electricity primarily generated by coal fired power plants since it is much more efficient and a lot cheaper. All these factors contribute to the global warming problem, the very problem that ethanol is supposed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prof. Levy says that life is good, morality is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite these positive ideas, the professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out the window . This is an incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook and ideology a person has on life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself because he understood how simple life was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we create bad and good, we create God, we accept God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we are no longer happy, and then we die. Humans make life difficult and complex, and I think Woody Allen uses the professor to show this. Prof. Levy knew this, and so he ended his life because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His suicide note is simple and straightforward; the way death is. Mechanical substitutes (prosthesis) for human lower limbs have advanced from small tree trunks shaped into peg legs in ancient times to today s sophisticated prosthesis with controlled motion. Nowadays, the linkage is implemented in persons with above knee and through knee amputations. The goal of this project is to gather information based on the four bar mechanism found in a prosthetic leg with an artificial knee joint, and to use that knowledge to determine the forces and movements that are present in the mechanism. Also, we are to determine how a joint clearance and link flexibility can affect the overall performance of the mechanism. We plan on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Four bar knee linkage can still be improved, such as creating types of linkages that allow safe stance phase, have low energy consumption and be light as possible. With all of these disadvantages in mind, people who make prosthetics should be able to analyze and define the unique qualities of the system in order to confidently create custom four bar knees for specific customers. A four bar knee mechanism with two joints having clearance can have a dynamic response. One of the important factors that influence the dynamic stability and the performance of mechanisms is the joint clearance. The clearances always exist in the kinematic joints and they are known to be the sources for impact forces. These forces are the source of unwanted vibration that can cause a decrease in the reliability and life of the mechanism. The dynamic behavior of a four bar mechanism with a clearance at any one of its connections can be described using a quasi static model. The results showed that, in the presence of clearance, the mechanism responses were greatly influenced, and the coupler flexibility had a role of suspension for the mechanism. Kinematic analysis of the mechanism includes the determination of displacements, velocities and accelerations of the mass centers of moving links. As a practical implication, the proposed optimized values of the design variables lead to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medical Malpractice And Its Effects Medical Malpractice and Its Effects According to the American Bar Association Medical malpractice is defined as negligence committed by a professional health care provider a doctor, nurse, dentist, technician, hospital or hospital worker whose performance of duties departs from a standard of practice of those with similar training and experience, resulting in harm to a patient or patient s . Medical malpracticemakes it hard for physicians to do their job without having the fears of getting sued. This can impact their judgment and distract them from getting their jobs done the right way. When people think of medical malpractice they only see how it impacts the victim or the person who is suing the doctor, but do they ever wonder how it affects the doctors and those who are in the medical field? Do they think about how medical malpractice impacts the administration of proper medicine? Now, this is the reason why society should care if our medical personnel are failing to do their job or why you should it care collectively about a physicianwho was sued in the past, but won the case? Medical malpractice doesn t only have negative effects on the patient. I understand that the patient has to deal with emotional and/or physical distress as well. September 11 attacks, the deadliest terrorist attack in world history, were a series of airline hijacking by nineteen militants of an Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda. The hijackers, along with the suicide bombers, seized four US commercial jets and crashed them into US s landmarks, Twins tower of World Trader Center and the Pentagon, at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2011. The notorious Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden masterminded the attacks. According to CNN News, the September 11 attackskilled 2,966 people and injured more than 6,000 citizens in New York City (CNN). Moreover, as reported by Health Department WTC s Health Registry, the attacks brought on the post traumatic stress disorder, and they concluded that 1,140 people who worked near the Manhattan and the New York City at the time are diagnosed with cancer caused by exposure to toxins at Ground Zero (Bendix). On September 11, President George W Bush addressed a plausible but flawed explanation, America was targeted for attack because we re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining (The Boston Globe), which indirectly reveals that Bush is blaming Muslims for the fault for 911 attacks. • 26. Community Policing And The Neighborhood Watch Program One advantage of community policing is forming neighborhood watch programs which benefit both police and citizens. Citizens and police work together to discourage criminal behavior and find solutions to crime (Take Action, n.d.). Neighborhood watch entails educating members on security and suspicious behaviors such as a person screaming for help, strange noises, a person looking in cars widows, strangers in cars talking to children and property being taken out of a house when the resident is not home. Neighborhood watchmembers are not vigilantes as they help police by looking out for suspicious occurrences and then report it to law enforcement (Neighborhood Watch, 2015). In my community Neighborhood Watch keeps drug dealers from selling drugs in the lobby s and building grounds. The sale and use of drugs had previously accumulated a large amount of violence which has been largely reduced or eliminated by community policing and the Neighborhood Watch program. Another advantage of community policing is social media as it gives police and citizens a way to send and receive information to one another with a much broader range than neighborhood watch; which is only limited to a specific community. When police are looking for an offender he or she can reach a nationwide audience by tweeting and/or posting it on his or her social media page so that followers can repost the offender s information and/or give any helpful information to police to apprehend the offender ... This tends to raise a couple eyebrows in the room, so let me take a deep breath and explain that Carmilla is a gothic novel written during the Victorian era that addresses issues like ambiguity, memory, transgressive sexuality, and gives insight into the tensions that existed between Catholicism and Protestantism, Ireland and England. At face value, the novel hardly makes any mention of the political and social turmoil that was present during the time. Carmilla is the frame tale of a young aristocrat, Laura, whose isolation is broken by the appearance of the titular character. I chose to set my Carmilla pictures against a similar background (of copper, however, and not of gold), because I wanted to invoke a sense of the numinous, of something that transcended time, space, and physical boundaries, just as Carmilla managed to transcend boundaries within the text. Yet at the same time, Carmilla is the living dead, and not an abstract philosophical poster child, so while the background and shape of the hands were left loose and undefined, I added shadows and dimension to the hand itself to evoke Carmilla s ties to the physical world. Finally, each picture is of two hands in various poses, and I sought to represent the reciprocal nature of Carmilla and Laura s relationship, as well as their ambiguous roles by making it unclear whose hand was whose. Each pose is ambiguous in the hands relationship to each other, and there is no clear aggressor or victim, Ireland or England, Protestant or Catholic, Laura or Carmilla. The reason that I am so attracted to this sprawling rabbit trail of a topic (and the reason why I would highly recommend everyone to pick up this novel for a try) is because of the ... Education Act 1996 Case Study 1.1.8The Education Act 1996 Education Act 1996 places a legal duty on the parent or guardian of a child aged five to sixteen years (known as compulsory school age), to ensure that their children or child attends and receives full time education, either in a traditional school or any other means that is appropriate for their age, ability, and aptitude, taking into account any special needs they may have. The Act makes it a criminal offense for a parent or guardian to take their child out of school without authorisation from the school, and an offense for parents who are aware that their child is failing to attend school to not take reasonable action to ensure that the child attends. The offense of failing to ensure regular attendance at school is punishable by up to three months imprisonment and/or fine up to one thousand pounds. 1 Where a child is not attending school regularly, the Local Education Authority (LEA) has the option of taking criminal or civil action against the parent or guardian. It may then decide to mount a prosecution for breach of s 444 of the 1996 Act, just as it can for breach of s 443. Before the 1989 Children Act, the LEA was obliged to consider whether it was appropriate to bring care proceedings based on truancy and failure by the parent or guardian. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates how William Butler Yeatsuse of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels between ancient civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity. In addition, it articulates the idea that one s soul achieves perpetuity, not through sensual song, but through the erudition of ancient civilization (Yeats, Lines 7, 11,14). The presence of universal themes allows for an examination of contextual shifts and by being malleable in nature, can be made relevant to different audiences. The Brothers Grimm s Little Red Cap , Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves and Tommy Wirkola s film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters all promote their hegemonic ideologies and as cultural artefacts extrapolate the contextual values of their time period. Carl Jung s theory of the Collective Unconscious ensures that each of these fairytale adaptations can retain their archetypal valueand thus remain significant and relevant in contemporary circumstances. The Brother Grimm s 19th Century Fairytale, Little Red Cap reflects the hegemonies of its context through its cautionary justification. Grimm s work reflected the importance of German national cohesion under French occupation and the view towards foreigners as destructive usurpers. Little Red Cap was adapted for instructional purposes, specifically aimed at a children s audience. Initially in the tale, the subversion of Perrault s depiction of the girl is evident exemplifying her as a sweet little girl and the hyperbolic everybody loved her instantly on first sight demonstrates the engrained virtue of her youth. In this paper I will elaborate about environmental compliance obligations, businesses and environmental ethics movements, as well as what companies have been trying to do to become more ethical when it comes to our environment that goes above and beyond the law. The survival and growth of green businesses in the U.S. is increasingly large. Environmental compliance obligations are monitored by the EPA, or the Environmental Protection Agency. Their basic mission is quite simplistic in that they need to protect human health and the overall environment. EPA, state, local and tribal agencies work together to ensure compliance with environmental laws passed by Congress, state legislatures and tribal governments (Introduction: Environmental Enforcement and Compliance, n.d.). These groups all work together to ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book is about a girl who lives in a small town in England. Her name was Louise Clark everyone called her Lou. At first she was working in a cafГ© until the man who owned it unexpectedly announced that he would be shutting the place down, this left Lou out a job. Her family was very disappointed because Lou helped her whole family out a whole lot with money because they were going through tough times. Lou went back to the job center and tried to find a job. There was nothing that she thought she could do until one day Syd the man at the job center told her about a caregiver job. Lou was not sure about Caregiving because she didn t feel as though she would be able to handle it, but she did not turn it down she gave it a try. This is how she met Will, Will Traynor is the one Lou was going to be taking care of because he was hit by a motorcycle and it left him paralyzed. It took quite awhile for Lou and Will to become good friends but it did happen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I see the weather is because when Will told Lou about the accident and how a motorcycle hit him it was raining that day. It made me think of this chapter because rain can always have a deeper meaning and Will was running towards a taxi trying not to get all soaked and I just think what if it was sunny? Would there have been a different outcome? Rain always has a sad feeling for some people and for Will that day I think it was a very sad day and I related it to this chapter because I think the rain had a profounder meaning than just it was raining that ... • 43. Relationship Between Europeans And Native Americans The picture that one detects when thinking of the relationship between Native Americans and Europeans is depicted by circumstances that eventually shaped the New World. It is hard to imagine how different the world would be if today s society still used ancient indian traditions. A certain study indicated that the swamps where the indians lived in the Chesapeake were full of casualties. It was filled with disease and a vast variety of illnesses. With the high risk for disease it forced the Europeans to adjust several social forms that were being brought over from England. Alienated from the remainder of the world, the indians did not have a strong enough immune system to defend the diseases. This epidemic caused major dissolution in the not only the villages, but also within the European immigrants and african slaves. With the loss of older natives, this also meant loss of their heritage. Centuries of traditions, talents, and artistry were strayed. The sickness cause many of the elders to perish at once, meaning many of the traditions died along with them. Many Indians never even saw the face of a white or black man. As a result of the deaths, it is hard to imagine what traditions we might have carried on still to this day if so many had not perished. Although the Indians had many admirable talents, the Europeans respect for the natives was microscopic. Europeans from different parts of the world had conflicting viewpoints of how Indians should be treated. In the, Native ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1994 a recently identified comet crashed into the gaseous surface of what we call Jupiter. Not only did this happen thirteen years ago, but we can still see evidence of the comet s impact to this day. In March of 1993 a small group of astronomers known for discovering many other comets laid eyes upon the soon to be Shoemaker Levy 9 comet. Their names being David Levy and Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker gave way to the comet s name, Shoemaker Levy 9. The 9 however, was added to symbolize that they had numbered the comets they had discovered before and this one happened to be the ninth Shoemaker Levy comet. This comet began ... • 45. Rock N Roll In The 1950s Rock n Roll in the 1950s: The change in America Music as a whole blends together. One style leads to another, the music becomes more progressive. It evolves to fit the new generation, leaving the old generation behind. From the spritual songs of the late 1800s to the gospel of the early 1900s. Then it changed into rhythm and blues, and when the 1950s rolled around it became Rock n Roll. With the invention of new iconic instruments like the Fender Precision Bass and then the Fender Stratocaster, the sound of the music changed. The sound that was soft and low was now crunchy and loud. While it did not sit well with the adults, it was a hit among the new generation. Even the African American roots of the music didn t deter the youth listening ... But most of all they hated who played the music. Most of the musicians and music writers were African American. Even though they had earned the respect of many people while fighting in WWII, their culture was still shunned by most of the public. But Rock was all about being insobordinate. The fact that the parents hated it made it even more popular among the teens. The parents might have had their own little pet names about it calling it as blues legend B.B. King said in an interview with The Guardian, the Black Chittlin circuit. But to the youth it was just music. The acceptance of this generation was going to bring a new opportunity for Black America in the fight for civil rights. Even with the definite roots in Black culture, most of the main performers however were white. Take Elvis Presley for example, the songs he sang were the normal blues rock style, but he was white. He was still part of the culture, he was thought as black. It was a common saying among the musicians at the time was that If you were white and played blues you were black once. These Black roots and White musicians led to this music being called a black and white hybrid. This fact was what turned away most adults from this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Capital One Capital One Financial Corporation 1. How is Capital One s use of IT different from other mass customization strategies? Capital One uses IT through its information based strategy (IBS) to record, organize, and analyze data on the characteristics and behaviors of their customers, as stated by CEO Richard Fairbank. Their philosophy was to exploit information by constructing scientific models that could be used to both assess the creditworthiness of potential cardholders through FICO scoring, and to customize product offerings for existing ones. This was done through data mining, sorting, customizing offers and marketing campaigns, and then analyzing this data to see what campaigns worked for what reason and what ... These four things are what separates Capital One from its competition, and will sustain their competitive advantage in the future. 3. What are the consequences of Capital One s IT strategy for expansion into different segments of the credit card industry, and into other industry s? The immediate consequences of their expansion strategy proved the efficiency of their statistical modeling to inhibit Capital One from taking any missteps into industry s that are either saturated or do not allow enough growth in the future. Capital One considered expanding into auto insurance and auto financing, but fierce competition, low margins, and stringent regulation kept them from pursuing this immediately. (Capital One did recently acquire Summit Acceptance Corporation an auto financing company that focused on the sub prime market). Next they looked at the energy and telecom industries, but consumer energy usage patterns are available publicly which kept them from exploring this option further. America One was created which resold blocks of calling time enabling Capital One to gain a foothold in telecom. An ancillary effect of Capital One looking to broaden its horizons into other industries will promote other companies to review their current IT systems to see where their inefficiencies lie, so they can ... • 50. Immigration Pull Factors The West during the 1800 was seen as a better place for a future, the American dream. People migrated because of push and pull factors. Push factors cause people to leave home and can include war, no freedom of religion, danger, few job or education opportunities. While pull factors draw people to a new country because it is the opposite of what is occurring back home, what they seek. Immigrants are often motivated by both factors. Beginning in the late 1800s, more than 30 million Europeans came to America to escape from push factors and were attracted to the freedom America granted and job opportunities. Push factors that caused the immigration was the poverty they had to face, loss of land, unemployment, and persecution based on one s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
