Roberto Cavalli has for his new collection for autumn/winter this year reinvented prints and shapes to
give new energy in his youthful line in an attempt to flirt with the new generation of globe trotters.
Other designers participating at the Milan fashion week presented more outgoing and daring
collections on the second day of 2013 14 autumn and winter shows, as a reaction on the political and
economic situation in Italy.
With this collection Cavalli wanted to show the world that he is back, and he found inspiration for ...

Through time he has always been an early user of new technology and use of digital imaging for his
prints. For the fall collection of 2013 he has tried another approach, craving for a more handcrafted
approach to his work and he is now focusing his work on the drawing board and the painter´s easel.
For this collection he is using artwork of sixteenth century leaders as Rubens and Caravaggio as a
springboard.
He created a series of floral and baroque tableaux that were woven into the collection. The motifs that
he used in the new collection was often made by hand, and the people sitting in the front row was able
to see and trace the colorful brushstrokes painted on the clothes. Other patterns was fixed on/into the
fabrics in more tactile was, for example the two devorè velvet tuxedo suits. ( see pic)
Cavalli is just one of many designers this season that is using the idea of modern armor. Together with
local centuries old Florentine ateliers he putted his ideas into action. He incorporated leather and fur
into a complex chain mail on his models wearing sparkling black mini dresses. Based on what his
hade made so far he is definitely going on the darker mood but he is combining the dark mood with a
romantic feeling.

Car City Club
For each user, one route (among the defined routes) was randomly attributed at a time band. The trip
time was then calculated, based on the route distances in the central and suburban areas, and the
average speeds on the center and suburb at the given time of the day (randomly attributed among the
time bands of the selected user profile), as calculated on the definition of traffic patterns. The parking
period for each trip was also determined, based on the probability and duration of parking, as defined
in the user profiles.
This step was repeated iteratively, until the total distance traveled by the user reached its range set as
limit, when the total traveled and parked times for the user were then defined (as well as the actual
distance traveled and the number of trips).
Finally, it was possible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Given the fact that the longest route defined in the simulation had a length of 7 km, additional costs
per kilometer were not incurred by users in the defined scenarios; single routes also did not justify the
utilization of hourly tariffs.
Car City Club has a different pricing structure: customers must pay a minimum hourly fee (the
minimum rental period is one hour, although vehicles can be delivered earlier) in addition to a variable
cost per kilometer. The tariffs considered refer to the simplest vehicle available in the one way service
(a Fiat 500 1.2L, the same model offered by Enjoy), for the establishment of a more equal base of
comparison between the companies considering the user profiles modeled in the simulation.
Finally, the data referring to private vehicle costs were obtained from a database made available at the
website http://www.aci.it/ by ACI (Automobile Club Italiano), a national organization that offers a
variety of public services, among which a tool for the calculation of costs of private vehicle
utilization: the data refers to a Fiat 500 1.2L, the same model offered by Enjoy and Car City

Comparing Scandal In Bohemia And The Blue Cross
Scholars have tried for centuries to figure out human nature; does there really exist a set of behavioral
traits that all people share? Is it really possible to predict the actions of any person based on the past?
A Scandal in Bohemia from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Blue Cross from The
Innocence of Father Brown by G.K. Chesterton both attempt to answer these questions, albeit in
different ways. Sherlock Holmes reliance on human nature fails him as the criminal, Irene Adler, ends
up outsmarting him. However, Father Brown s less obvious pursuit of Europe s famed criminal ends
up fruitful while using a similar method. The two authors choose to have their detectives rely on
human nature (with different outcomes) to show that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He enters Irene Adler s home and, with Watson s help, sees the woman take the letter out of her hiding
place. While walking home, he tells Watson when a woman thinks that her house is on fire, her
instinct is at once to rush to the thing which she values most (Doyle 16). Holmes thinks that he s
outsmarted the criminal, but when he goes to retrieve the letter finds a different one in its place. In one
section of the letter, Adler writes well, [she] followed [Holmes] to [his] door, and so made sure that
[she] was really an object of interest to the celebrated Mr. Sherlock Holmes (19). While his reliance on
human nature was enough to have the location of the letter revealed to him, he ends up being beaten
anyways. Adler writes that [she] had been warned against [Holmes] months ago. [She] had been told
that if the King employed an agent, it would certainly be [Holmes] (19). She uses her own knowledge
of human nature paired with outside information to outsmart the detective. Where Holmes trusted
completely in his own knowledge, Adler utilized an outside warning to realize what had actually
happened. Simply relying on human nature wasn t enough for Sherlock Holmes, and Doyle uses this
to show that not only is human nature very complex, but it s also not always completely useful in and

Detective Job Application Essay
One job that I have always been interested in is becoming a Detective for the FBI. I ve watched so
many shows on what the detectives do and how they handle the crimes. There are different kinds of
detectives that you can become. It would be an interesting job to do. I would get to experience
different crimes and work with different people. The cool thing about this job is that some of the head
offices get to travel and work. Also, it would be a great chance to see how other states control their
community when something happens. Detectives get the chance to save people s lives and take in the
bad, if they get them. Becoming part of the team is like getting adopted and everyone becomes your
family.
Detectives normally begin their career as police officers before being promoted to a detective. The
police academy would give you experience on how to handle a firearm. Some of the things that the
police and detectives do can be very dangerous. They age to start out is at 21 years old and have to be
physically active. FBI agents need to know how to do CPR and first aid in case of an emergency.

rate, but not me. I wanted to do something that would keep me thinking on the job. The training does
include classroom instruction in law, civil rights, state laws, and local ordinances. If you want to
become an FBI special agent then you have to typically must be a college graduate with at least three
years of professional work. The certification process isn t intended to enclose one product over a
competitor s product, but merely certify that the product meets FBI standards. There are about
780,000 jobs out there. Newly special agents are appointed to one of the FBI s 56 field offices based

Cheesecake Factory Structure
Intro
The organizational structures within a company can be the determining factor if a business can run
efficiently or run chaotically into ruin. The organizational structure is the different hierarchy s and
arrangement of authority, roles and duties in an organization. The Cheesecake factory has a very
effective organizational structure which allows for its operations to run smoothly and enables the
Cheesecake factory to be one of the highest earning restaurant chains. The structure contains three
main levels. The first and highest level is the board of directors which contains 7 members, including
the CEO David Overton and 6 directors. The next level of hierarchy called N 1 contains 7 levels
including the CFO, President, Area Operations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a centralized system, where decisions and recommendations come from the top down. However it
is also flexible giving any employee the freedom to reach out to an upper level director. This
succession of power lets Cheesecake Factory operate smoothly and competently. Each location
manager has to go through extensive training to be able to be in that position and is well qualified to
look over the whole restaurant. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would say they should keep
their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher monitoring of lower levels.
The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee reviews of working at
Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general managers. Many of them
claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay attention to the hard work of the
employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be overbearing and lack communication skills
with employees. Another overarching theme was the inconsistent breaks because they are up to the
discretion of the manager. My recommendation would be to invest more in the employees and the
directors that are above the general managers to make sure that the employees are satisfied. Promote
company values more and participative leadership and more incentive for employees to go above and
beyond and focus on team building as opposed to individual competition. In one of the reports they
even said themselves that the success of the business is due to happy employees. Our future growth
and financial success will be highly dependent on our ability to attract, develop and retain qualified
staff members who are capable of successfully managing upscale, high volume casual dining
restaurants, and consistently executing our extensive and complex

‘Business’ and Its ‘Environment’
Business and Its Environment
Introduction
 Every business organization has to interact and transact with its „environment‟.  The
effectiveness of interaction of an enterprise with its environment primarily determines the success or
failure of a business.
 The environment imposes several „constraints‟ on an enterprise and has a considerable impact and
influence on the scope and direction of its activities. The enterprise, on the other hand, has very little
control over its environment.  The business environment presents two challenges to the enterprise,
viz., the challenge to combat the environmental threats (such as intensification of competition,
declining market etc.) and to exploit the business opportunities.  The basic job ... Show more content

 Within the private sector businesses vary in
 Objectives (profit and CSR)  Legal structure (sole trader; partnership; limited company) 
Industry;  Size (measured in terms of number of employees; sales revenue)  Market power (degree
of competitive pressure)  Geographical reach (within, between, and among countries)
 The diversity also means that, although there are common elements in the business environment,
each business operates in an environment that is, to some extent, unique.
Thinking about the business environment Eight key themes
 Internal/external the environment is both inside and outside organisations. Internal: „controllable‟ |
External: „uncontrollable‟
 Business organisations is not really a single, unified entity but is internally differentiated. 
Managers within business, to be effective, have to deal with both the internal and external
environment.  The ability of an organization to operate successfully within its external environment
depends, in large part, on the effectiveness of internal systems and procedures.  The internal
environment has to be managed and adapted to the demands and opportunities of the external
environment.
 Important internal factors: organizational resources; R D and technological capabilities; financial
capability; marketing capability;

Urban Farming Experience Paper
My experience at DePaul s Community and Involvement fair was a bit overwhelming to say the least.
I was so inspired to join so many politically active organizations. I ve signed up to join Depaul
Democrats, DePaul Community Peacemakers, International Socialist Organization, and DePaul s
Urban Farming Organization. The reason why I consider DePaul s Urban Farming Organization to be
a politically active organization is because urban farming allows urban communities to obtain
healthier, fresher, and cost reducing foods. One other organization also got me thinking, I never really
did consider myself a socialist before, but after share ideas and opinions with the International

Essay on Strategic Planning
Introduction There are a variety of strategic planning models, including goals based, issues based,
organic, scenario. * Goals based planning is perhaps the most common as it starts with a focus on the
organization s mission (and vision and/or values), goals to work toward the mission, strategies to
achieve the goals, and action planning. * Issues based strategic planning often starts by examining
issues facing the organization, strategies to address those issues, and action plans. * Organic strategic
planning begins with the organization s vision and values and then action plans to achieve the vision
with adhering to the values. Major differences in how organizations carry out the various steps and

Bon Secours reconsidered the acquisition in light of its mission statement that emphasized a caring
environment for its customers and employees. The nursing homes deal would have violated the
mission statement so the deal was rejected. (Source: Tom Krattenmaker, Write a Mission Statement
that Your Company is Willing to Live, Harvard Management Update, March 2002.) Typically, for a
NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior
management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its
operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have
representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these
volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the
output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we
know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate
mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. This doesn t
imply major shifts in the mission statement, but indicates adding newer dimensions/nuances to the
same by evaluating: * Is the mission up to date? Does it reflect what the

The Importance Of The Parent-Child Relationship
The parent s predominate and most important role within the parent child relationship is the role of
teacher. A parent is the main socializing agent. He or she teaches personal integrity, self determination,
interpersonal skills, and core values from an early age (book). Primary parenting functions include
ways of interacting with children to meet their needs (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The initial lessons that
parents share with their children are taught with the hopes of them becoming inherent. Although the
lessons parents teach may evolve based upon the developmental age of their children, the
responsibilities of parents remain. From the time children are born, parents are held accountable for
the socialization of their children as well as meeting their physical and basic needs, supporting the
child emotionally, and communicating with them (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014).
The Parent Child Relationship Over the Life Course Over the life course, children will develop and
grow as the essential encouragement and support evolves as they mature. Parents must be able to
adapt their relationships to continue to provide the support their children require. Several theories can
be applied to understand the parent child relationship, some describing the changes in the relationship
over time (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The Developmental Interaction Theory describes the six stages
experienced by families in the evolution of one s parenthood role observed in individuals as they grow

What the Two Proposals in Pride and Prejudice Reveal...
Pride and Prejudice is a novel fixated on marriage: throughout, all the action occurs within scenes
devoted to either the talk of marriage or actual proposals. This cannot be expounded more than within
the very first line: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good
fortune must be in want of a wife . Here, at the beginning of the novel, a definite, though somewhat
sarcastic, statement introduces the main theme of the novel marriage and, possibly more importantly,
not love.
The stark divide between love and marriage shown right the way through cannot be comprehended
fully by the twenty first century reader: in today s society marriage and love are mutually exclusive

This is the reason both proposals are declined: Elizabeth is of a mind that she will not marry for social
security or for money only love could tempt her into matrimony. The first proposal is from Mr Collins,
a man to whom Elizabeth was not even his first choice; Jane, the eldest and most beautiful, was his
first fancy, but when informed that she had been privately engaged, he swiftly switches to Elizabeth,
who is equally next to Jane in birth and beauty . His introduction to Elizabeth is not a pleasant one,
although he is too ignorant to notice; she finds him a conceited, pompous, narrow minded, silly man .
Her observation is quite correct, and illustrated to the greatest affect in his proposal speech.
Collins does not seem to possess his own conception of love: he intends to get married merely because
it is the particular advice and recommendation of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, his patron and first love .
He even goes so far as to explain this to Elizabeth within his proposal; Mr Collins you must marry,
Chuse...a gentle woman for my [Lady Catherine s] sake , showing his complete inaptitude to
understand the feelings of others. No mutual acquaintance and love between each other was needed.
Marriage, to Collins, was only a right thing for every clergyman in easy circumstances . Apart from
explaining in his highly verbose manner that he is marrying because he was told to, he

Okonkwo Tragic Hero
In life, people are given labels that society approves for them. Some may be given the label of enemy,
friend, loved one, or hero. What makes one a hero varies in cultures with opposing values. In the
novel, Things Fall Apart, written by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo lives in pre colonial Nigeria in a clan
where he is considered a hero. While he is aggressive in nature partially due to the fact that his father
was soft and a man of no title Okonkwo is still considered a hero because in his clan, masculinity is
cherished most among men; specifically, Okonkwo is a tragic hero. Conversely, in the epic, The
Odyssey, written by Homer in ancient Greece, Odysseus is praised as a hero. Journeying home from
war, Odysseus overcomes obstacles with the help of Greek gods and entities, making him an epic
hero. Some may disagree, but Odysseus and Okonkwo are heroes in their own right. Though they are
both heroes, Okonkwo fits the structure of a tragic hero better than the epic hero, Odysseus.
A staple characteristic that tragic heroes have are the flaws that conquer them. Okonkwo s flaw that he
faces is his everlasting need to secure his masculinity. While Okonkwo and other men lead Ikemefuna,
Okonkwo s adopted son, to his unbeknownst death, Ikemefuna ... Show more content on

Though Odysseus shows traits such as devotion, courage, and loyalty (traits commonly found in other
epic heroes), his ability to fit the mold of an epic hero lacks, whereas Okonkwo perfectly reflects the
traits of a tragic hero. Odysseus s spurts of anger and overwhelming feelings of triumph during his
journey, adequately show how he does possess human traits. After defeating the Cyclops and having a
sense of pride within himself, Odysseus shouts to the blinded, one eye monster as he sails away with
his men, If someone asks who did this, the name is Odysseus! (Homer 9). At this moment, Odysseus
boasts, a characteristic that is more so seen in a human than that of an epic

Racial Differences
Introduction
Race is described as genetic differences due to phenotypic characteristics such as specific physical
features (Sheets, 1999). Not only do individuals of different race have specific identifiable features but
also internal growth mechanisms vary. This paper will explore several areas in which racial
differences influence growth and development. Growth differences between races are of importance
since individuals are often compared to norms. However, it is evident that everyone has unique
characteristics, and these characteristics can be attributed to race.

Femoral length was also greater in African American children compared to Whites. This characteristic
attributed to a shorter sitting height but rather, a greater leg length to sitting height ratio (Gilsanz,
1998). Overall, the African American children accounted for a 10.7% and 5.7% increase in vertebral
bone density and femoral cross sectional area, respectively, in relation to their White counterparts
(Gilsanz, 1998). The reason behind the bone mineral content and bone mass being advanced in
African Americans is that they are better able to resist bone resporption by parathyroid hormone
(Gilsanz, 1998). Another theory is that greater muscle mass puts stress on which in turn develops
greater bone mineral content and density (Wagner and Heyward, 2000). By having these mechanisms
to better strengthen bone, there is evidence to prove that, in general, as African Americans age their
bones will be less problematic for them whereas the Whites will tend to have more problems.
As expected, greater bone mineral content as well as areal bone mineral density was identified in
African American children and adults relative to Whites (Kalkwarf et al., 2012). However, Kalkwarf
et al. (2012) identified that the forearm and lumbar spine were particular areas of the skeletal system
that were observed to be prominent as having greater bone mineral

Results The study revealed differences between the effects of Superflab, uncooked rice, green Play
Doh, and orange Play Doh when used as a bolus material. Each bolus type resulted in a different
Dmax when irradiated five separate times with two hundred monitor units (MU) with a field size of
10cm x 10cm (See Table 2). The solid water was the control variable in the experiment and the values
that resulted from irradiation of the solid water compared to each bolus variable resulted in different
values. Table 1 recorded the ratios that resulted from these values. ANOVA calculations from the

The P value less than 0.01, from the Tukey HSD test, shows that the outcomes are not coincidental but
that there is a numerical or scientific reason for the results of the experiment. The outcomes of the
experiment show that there are significant differences between each bolus type. Exact bolus
placement, calculating constant air pressure and room temperature, rounding errors, and human error
are limitations that could skew the results of this experiment. The results are consistent with prior
studies that indicate there are alternative bolus material options that are more effective than Superflab.
According to the ratios to water in Table 1, investigators conclude that uncooked rice is the best
alternative to Superflab due to the fact that it is more similar and consistent than Superflab to solid
water when providing Dmax. The data infers that although using the alternative variables will suffice
as bolus, the compositions of Superflab, green Play Doh, and orange Play Doh do not provide the
maximum dose build up as well as uncooked rice. In conclusion, this experiment narrows the
informational gap when researching bolus materials and provides an answer to the question of which
bolus will be best to use in radiation

J. R. R. Tolkien s Influence On Lord Of The Hobbit
J.R.R Tolkien s works, Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion, were all influenced by
some aspect of his life, whether it was an experience that he went through or a place he went to. When
he was younger Tolkien lived the village of Sarahole that had a corn grinding mill by the water, this is
where he got the idea for the hobbiton (Jahangir). Here is where it can be seen that his childhood had a
role in some of the aspects of his works. Tolkien got the inspiration for the ring in 1929, when he
visited an archeological dig where a Roman temple used to be, he was then told about an inscribed
gold ring that seemed to be cursed (Jahangir). It can also be seen that he has taken aspects of the
places he has visited and what he has learned to be a part of his books. Ten years later Tolkien began
writing the Lord of the Rings when Germany invaded Poland. (Sterbenz). Tolkien s Middle earth was

north of Columbia. Allowing access from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean, the Panama Canal
bisects the isthmus. There are extensive forests in the fertile Caribbean area. (Panama overview). It is
divided into nine different provinces. It is surrounded by steep cliffs and mountains from all sides. The
most famous mountainous region, commonly known as Cordillera Central, is Cordillera de
Talamanca. The highest point is the Volcan Baru, which is a dormant volcano, which rises almost
3,500 meters. Panama is distinguished by almost 500 bodies of water that flow the length of the
country. Low mountains run through most of the country, leaving a gap in the center that is nearly at
sea level.(Geography of Panama) With Panama being a tropical climate, temperatures are uniformly
high as is the relative humidity and there is little seasonal variation.(Panama GEOGRAPGHY)

Dealing with Conflicts in the Workplace
Conflict Management Styles
Conflict occurs in organizations whenever a difference of opinions exists. People disagree over many
things including but not limited to, policies and procedures, the overall direction of the company, and
distribution of rewards. This type of conflict is substantive conflict, as described in our reading text
organizational behavior as a, fundamental disagreement over ends or goals to be pursued . The second
type of conflict is emotional conflict; which involves, interpersonal difficulties that arise over feelings
of anger, mistrust, dislike, fear, resentment, and the like. This type of conflict occurs when two or
more persons do not see eye to eye or simply do not get along for whatever reason. I cannot ... Show

In our company many of the technicians have never been anything other than the technician. They
have never experienced what it is like to be the customer depending on someone else for technological
knowledge and expertise. I try to get my employees to place themselves in the shoes of the customer
and treat them, as they would expect to be treated. This works both ways; I have never been a
technician and do not understand a lot of the problems and frustrations that they experience. So in
turn, we share our thoughts, our experiences and our ideas on how we can make our organization a
more profitable one. We each realize our limitations and together strive for the common goals of the
organization. Another one of my particular strengths is my ability to perceive conflict in situations
before and as they arise. I can sense that if we are to implement a particular policy and/or procedure
how my staff will react to it. This helps us to plan ways to eliminate conflict before it even begins.
Conflict is inevitable when diverse people from different circumstances and backgrounds work
together. Everyone had different visions and ideas as to how various situations should be dealt with. If
conflict is not managed in an appropriate manner it can become time consuming and a waste of
management resources. By acknowledging this and dealing with conflict in a forthright and
straightforward manner, conflict can

Dystopia of Maya
I fell into the depths of Maya s beautiful green eyes and not even the currently setting sun could
compare to their beauty. She pressed once more against the rusted iron gate that separated us, pushed
it closed and once again took away my opportunity of joining my family, and let a pained cry of
sadness escape her lips before turning into the shadows and dissolving into the darkness. Then the
scene carried on as it had before as if Maya had been only an apparition. The crickets resumed their
songs and when the frogs in the nearby creek began the harmony, I knew I was alone. The loneliness
crept upon me like the cold of a moonless night. I stood and retraced the steps I had already taken
earlier, that then had seemed to be nothing but magical when they led me to my wife, but now as they
led me passed the unknown dilapidated shack that served as a safe haven for my wife and I and along
the overgrown dirt roads of Eucalyptus, my steps seemed to lead me to my death.
I walked along the ruined remains of life on the ground. Old cottages and fields were dotted along the
countryside like relics of a forgotten era. The fields, no longer a youthful green, were brown, shriveled
and unfriendly to the farmers of Eucalyptus who tried in vain to procure a single sprout to appease the
Council. Skeletons masquerading about in clothes and shoes worked on the fields feeding, begging,
and fighting their fields in desperation. The picture should have been and normally was accompanied

America and War
America has always had a variety of reasons to choose from in explaining their decisions to go to war.
The three wars that Americans fought between the end of the 19th century and the mid point of the
20th century involved reasoning as varied as economic benefits or international tranquility. When the
United States finally declared war against Spain on 25 April 1898, those in charge of making such
decisions had an event with which to convince those who were unsure that war was necessary. The
explosion of the USS Maine, an American battleship, on 15 February 1898 provided the impetus for
declaring war ostensibly under the feeling of national security. In trying to persuade Congress that
declaring war was absolutely necessary beyond all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many in the United States viewed World War I as an ideological struggle between Democracy and
Autocracy and that it was the duty of America to intervene on the side of those fighting for
Democracy. This reasoning was supported by the success of the Russian Revolution in deposing the
autocratic government of the Tsars. This was one of the points in Woodrow Wilson s Fourteen Points.
Of the various reasons that Americans held as acceptable reasons to go to war with Europe, only one
truly was a matter of national security. The submarine attacks on merchant vessels, though despicable,
were not about attacking American soil. The Zimmerman Telegram on the other hand was a clear
indication that if Germany could win on the battlefields of Europe, America could well be next. The
reasons that were put forward, prior to Pearl Harbor, for entering World War II were surprisingly
similar to some of the reasons put forward for entering World War I. President Roosevelt in particular
was intent on entering in combat because he viewed the alliance of Germany, Italy and Japan as
aiming for world domination. Roosevelt felt that if they were to successfully conquer Western Europe
and Asia that American security would be in grave danger. In addition to the theoretical ideological
dangers that the fascist control posed to world freedom, there were several actions by those nations,
Germany and Japan in particular that displayed their immense danger to world peace. Germany

Global Warming And Its Impact On The Environment
As technology continues to advance, and as the population continues to grow and the individual life
expectancy becomes longer, the global environment is being negatively impacted by various human
and natural activities that are detrimental to the environment. Unfortunately there are many global
environmental issues that need the attention of world leaders today, and have become undisputed
environmental issues in today s society. However, the most important public health, environmental
issue I would like to address in my discussion is global warming. Furthermore, global warming
influences a great amount of climate changes in the global arena. Hence, its befitting to say that, most
issues associated with climate changes around the world and global warming or increased atmospheric
temperature are intertwined. According to Friis (2012), Global warming is the increase in the near
surface temperature of the earth; the increased temperature is due to the increased emission of
greenhouse gases. It has been postulated by scientists that earth s surface has been warming up by
approximately one degree Fahrenheit every year for the past 140 years; a consequence of the emission
of gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane and Nitrous Oxide from sources such as fossil fuel
combustion. For example, fossil combustion that is coal and petroleum based fuels. Other sources of
these gases are deforestation, which also results in increased atmospheric carbon dioxide,

The Problem Of Sorcery And Witchcraft Essay
In the chapter The Problem of Sorcery and Witchcraft in the Age of Reformation, the section John
Calvin: Witchcraft and the Reformation discusses what is considered witchcraft, and why it is. In his
Sermon of Deuteronomy, John Calvin does this by distinguishing the roles of Enchanters, Sorcerers,
Calkers, workers with Familiars, and of such as ask counsel of the dead, within context of both old
and new testaments and the church reformation. In doing so, Calvin maintains the concept of
surrendering a soul to the devil in accordance to the continuing belief of witchcraft. In relation to other
documents within the chapter, the overall concept referring to an intensifying fear of witchcraft is
based on theological events in sixteenth century Europe during the church reformation. The document
by Calvin provides one of three viewpoints regarding witchcraft during this era; the three viewpoints
being Protestant, Catholic, or the notion that witchcraft in general is not real. However, despite the
differences of opinion, all sides seem to agree on the concept that witchcraft in general is not good.
In this particular document of the chapter, John Calvin, taking the protestant approach, describes the
concept of witchcraft as a pact between the devil and a witch; the witch being someone who practices
things such as enchantments, sorcery, speaking with the dead, etc. This relationship between the devil
and the witch is a direct result of what Calvin describes as:

Angus, Bill. A Hawk from a Handsaw : A New Contextualization. Notes Queries, vol. 56, no. 1, Mar.
2009, p. 60. EBSCOhost.
The author of the article discusses how Shakespeare is making a connection between the actors and
informers. The author suggests that this connection was not accidental because it is used to connect
debates between authority and corruption. It is focusing on Hamlet s first encounter with Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern and the phrase hawk from a handsaw from the play. Imagery of predatory birds is
used to describe the informers. This article s audience would probably be people who are familiar with
the play. I found this article useful because it was a very detailed textual criticism. It also provides
evidence for the argument that handsaw is a corrupted form of the word heronshaw, or young heron.
There are many explanations about how the use of birds of prey in Shakespeare s play Hamlet
expresses Hamlet s recklessness. The author pulls many different interpretations into his argument
from various scholars.

Ilya Kaminsky s We Lived Happily During The War
I think it s fair to say that a majority of people in the United States get up every morning with only
miniscule problems to worry about. We are not affected by a crashing economy. We don t have mass
numbers of people starving to the point where they are skin and bone. We don t deal with people
trying to kill us for having different religious views as them. We don t have a multitude of corrupt
groups fighting for power over our nation. We don t wake up surrounded by damages of the atrocities
caused by extremist s bombs. Other countries, however, are not this fortunate, and Ilya Kaminsky s
poem, We Lived Happily During the War does an excellent job of pointing this out.
It s clear when reading this poem, the main theme of it is that there are people in this world who are
not nearly as fortunate as us. We feel bad for them and make a big deal out of how horrible their
situation is. Yet, we don t actually go out and do anything worthwhile about it for fear of losing our
own comforting bubble of safety.
The idea of us feeling bad for those in direr situations and crying for something to be done appears
right at the beginning of the poem when it says, And when they bombed other people s houses, we
protested, (Ilya Kaminsky, 1 and 2). This quote is very apparently true to us. The news, for several
years now, has been full of protests saying that we need to offer help to people in war stricken and
terrorist filled countries. This quote could also point out or stand for more

Santa Claus Myths
Saint Nicholas, myth or legend? In order to determine the merits of Santa Claus and his effects on
Christmas, we must objectively review how his story aligns with the story of Jesus Christ. Although
Jesus is the reason for the season, distractions such as commercialism, religion and cultural division
have all played a part in detracting from this core message, however, these things can all be reasoned
with truth. But how do you reason with fiction? How can we inject fantasy into the center of truth and
maintain its veracity?
In examining the influence of Santa Claus on Christmas, we must first highlight his origin. Forbes
(2007) states there is minimal knowledge of the Saint called Nicholas, but what we know is that he

The concept of Santa Claus is something we are supposed to grow out of. Its celebrated as good,
wholesome fun for children, but how does he work alongside God. If we tell children that both Santa
and God are real and expect them to grow beyond one, then why not both. In truth they both require
the same substance to believe in there existence; faith in the unseen are both required to believe, but
faith in a lie is manipulation. The potency of Jesus Christ birth and ultimate, salvation of humanity, is
put on undue trial when one story is revealed as lie. Jesus informs us in Matthew 18:6 7, but whoever
causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a
heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world
because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man
through whom the stumbling block comes! (New American Standard Bible)
This breach of trust, could cause one to stumble for the rest of their lives, because they placed
undeserved faith in a lie and now the truth of Christ feels the same. Why is it acceptable to proffer a
lie, when the truth represents the same

Learning Theology With The Church Fathers Summary
Learning Theology with the Church Fathers by Dr. Christopher A. Hall is a great place for a pastor,
laity, student, or a believer to start growing in knowledge of the Lord and learning theology. Learning
Theology is the second book in Dr. Hall s three volume patristic series examining early Church history
Reading Scripture, Learning Theology, and Worshiping with the Church Fathers. Dr. Hall is the
director of academic spiritual formation and a distinguished professor of theology at Eastern
University in Pennsylvania. He earned his Ph.D. at Drew University, has worked in some capacity at
Eastern University since 1992, and has ministered all over the world.
Hall offers a simple overview, not focusing on one particular church father, which provides a strong
foundational introduction for understanding how theology developed in the early church through the
patristic fathers. His methodology ties life in the early church with today s everyday believers, which
will help them to understand rudimentary theology. Hall begins by preparing the reader to learn
theology from the Church Fathers by asking crucial questions and giving background information to

He specifically advises the reader to learn directly from the church fathers rather than just trusting his
explanation. By doing this, Hall allows the reader to individually process the theological issues
outlined in the text. The mystery of God is interlaced through the chapters of the text, and through the
arguments of the early church fathers as described in the book. Hall uses controversies pertaining to
each topic to help readers understand that, even in the church s early days, there were those who were
against Christianity, and there was discord within the

wondrous tale. I know a half ass written book when I see one. The Ruby Circle, is it. This book is a
train wreck waiting to happen since The Fiery Heart and I couldn t get off fast enough. Despite its

How The Low Income Of Countries Such As Chad And Papua New...
Introduction
This report is to help introduce the low income of countries such as Chad and Papua New Guinea, and
comparing them to a country such as Sweden who has no income. For years, certain countries, as the
two listed above cannot maintain a lifestyle with the incomes that are available to them. Using
incomes will help to see where the problem is occurring and how it might be approached to aid the
countries. Reporting on the countries will give insight into a historical background including
independence of the countries, along with education, literacy, life factors, and poverty by using the
GINI to show how wide the gaps can be and become.
Historical Background In 1946 Chad became an Overseas Territory of France and on August 11, 1960
obtained independence, but short lived, because of a tyrant dictator, Francois Tombalbaye, who never
really released them from his grip, and Chad had been in a civil war, until 1990 when Idriss Deby, a
military commander, took control and with his rule, multi party politics has returned to Chad, giving
some freedoms back to its citizens (Chad s long road to independence, 2010).
Papua New Guinea was under the government of Australia, and the UN pushed Australia to give
Papua New Guinea independence and help create a group that would be able to run a government
through social and educated influences. On September 16, 1975 Papua New Guinea obtained their
independence with a monarchy ruled by Queen Elizabeth II as head of state represented

What Are Iago s Evil Deeds
In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the antagonist Iago serves as a wicked puppeteer, manipulating the
strings of each involved character. His spite and cruelty leads to the tragic downfall of not Othello,
Desdamona, Rodrigo, and himself. He looked down on others, especially women, and shaped himself
into a cloaked figure who pulled strings for his own gain. Iago proves that when ill will and means to
spread it come into contact, misery will follow. Iago is a spiteful, manipulative, and cunning tactician
who nearly found a means to reach an end that suited him. He sounds like a monster, yet Iago may be
the most human of all the characters. Iago s spite opens a Pandora s Chest brimming with the world s
evils; if we look back to the beginning of the play, his motives were to punish Othello for awarding
the position of lieutenant to Michael Cassio and not himself. We can prove this with a quote, told in a

Peekay As A Man In Bryce Courtenay s The Power Of One

In The Power Of One, by Bryce Courtenay, the main character Peekay undergoes a brutal childhood of
constant beat downs and bed wetting. Living in an extremely prejudice society that South Africa is is
not exactly easy either, especially if you are an Englishman like Peekay. Despite these horrible
situations that Peekay has to live in, he always gets through on top, but he would not have been able to
do this well without the right people who taught him what he needs to be a powerful man. But with all
the odds stacked against Peekay, he gets through thanks to the influence of friends and mentors like
Hoppie, Doc, and Geel Piet, Peekay becomes the strong independent man that he is now.
The first major role model in Peekay s life was none other than Hoppie Groenewald. After Peekay had

ways in which a deceitful act was carried out by Myrrha and her accomplice, the nurse to deceive her

Jacob and Esau from the Hebrew Bible, where Rebekah plotted against her older son, Esau, to

The film has one overall branching storyline but is told through two different time lines. The film
begins at the end of the story and is told backwards, colored, in fifteen minute intervals. Each scene
going backwards is told in these specific intervals to juxtapose Leonard s condition, where the overall
storyline is confusing and doesn t make a lot of sense, similar to how Leonard feels constantly. And
his general length of memory is also about fifteen minute parallel to the lengths of scenes in the

The Philosophies Of Christianity And Buddhism Essay
Absract
A worldview is the way an individual understands and processes the world and reality. Worldviews
can be realized by answering seven questions. Most religions have a worldview that is unique to its
belief system. This paper aims to compare the worldviews of Christianity and Buddhism, and their
implications on health care. Important factors regarding care provided by those of other religions will
be discussed. The common components to different religions, as well as the author s personal views
and new perspectives, will also be discussed.
Health Care Provider and Faith Diversity America is known as a melting pot of cultures, and because
of this, health care providers encounter patients and families from a multitude of different
backgrounds and religions. Every religion comes with its own set of beliefs, rituals, and worldview.
What each culture or religion believes as truth can effect their view of health and wellness. Health care

Health Issues In The Black Community Essay
The Black community s ears are attuned to the sounds of the salon the drone of clippers, scissors snick
snipping locks of hair, gossiping voices muffled by the hum of a hooded dryer. But Chicagoans might
hear something new as they sit in the salon chair: medical advice. Soon, salon and barbershop patrons
may get educated about kidney health as they wait on their braids, curls and fades. Focusing on the
salon as a cornerstone of the Black community, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is
launching its Health is in Style program, which will train hair stylists to act as lay educators on the
issues of chronic kidney disease, hypertension and diabetes, all of which disproportionately affect the
Black community. In the past, NKFI has provided free health screenings across Chicago, but members
of the Black community have been reticent to participate, said Regina White, Community Health
Education Volunteer Manager for NFKI. A lot of folks live by the mantra: If it s not broke, I m not
gonna try to fix it, White said, but they may actually be unaware of their health issues. ... Show more

To get Health is in Style on its feet, White is recruiting nail technicians and hair stylists for NFKI s
World Kidney Day activities March 8, in hopes that complimentary manicures and haircuts could lure
people into a participating in a free kidney exam. Health is in Style s goal is to prevent the progression
of diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure before they progress to kidney failure, said Anne
Black, CEO of NKFI. This approach is especially important for the Black community, for whom
donor kidneys have been notoriously difficult to

Analysis Of The Movie Julien Donkey Boy
In his sophomore film, Julien Donkey Boy (1999), director Harmony Korine tunes in to the psychotic
perspective of Julien (Ewan Bremner) a suburban schizophrenic with raisin black eyes and detachable
dentistry and his almost equally grotesque family, in a disorderly smear of violence, incest, and finally,
tragedy. The film s fragmented narrative structure, with its grainy and hand held visual style, shudders
on to the screen in a fusillade of discursive vignettes, that reflect, not only the digital dexterity of its
director, but the haunting psychosis of its titular protagonist. It is the inarticulate jumble of Julien s
psychology which is the organizing principle of the film. And, it is precisely how we as viewers
identify with this character and become complicit in his pathological perspective which this essay will
continue to explore.
In conventional Hollywood cinema, narrative is subservient to the viewer s overall pleasure and ease
of understanding, as it provides an overarching framework which may elucidate the motivations and
consequences of a character s actions. However, Korine expresses his dismay with classical narrative,
I can t stand plots, because I don t feel life has plots. There is no beginning, middle, or end, and it
upsets me when things are tied up so perfectly (Geoff King, 59). As one may expect, JDB s narrative
structure challenges our expectations, dissolving any sense of linear continuity in favour of a cinema
of unpredictability (Adrian

The Adventure to Democracy

The Adventure to Democracy
In the midst of the prevalence of democratic transitions, a number of developing countries are seeking
to achieve the successful consolidation of civil order in modern days. Among those participants,
Mexico and Nigeria has been spotlighted for the completely contrastive endings at the end of their
long adventures towards democratization since their independence; Mexico, from its independence,
has maintained the political stability despite the authoritarian single party regime and even
accomplished the solid democratization at the time of the 2000 election whereas Nigerian regime has

By means of land redistribution and Import Substitution Industrialization, PRI reinforced economic
and social defections and even further promoted the remarkable economic development. In political
aspect, it also largely contributed to settle down the ethnic and regional conflicts and created an
atmosphere that was conducive to co operate. As Andreas Schedler mentions in his journal, PRI
brought the end to armed strife between regional warlords and rival revolutionary factions by its
foundation (pg 5, Schedler, 2000) . Besides in accordance to the 2000 released article from the
Economist, PRI used to fund the opposition political parties in order to maintain their existence in
politics (The Economist, 2000). In brief, the PRI govern on the basis on collaboration, not on
coercion.
Ethnocentrism vs. Patriotism Along with what mentioned above, the contention of tripartite parties in
Nigeria that encourages Ethnocentrism to splinters internal society contradicts to the national
harmonization in Mexico. The contrast of Nigeria s ethnocentrism and Mexico s patriotism is well
presented in their story of oil revenue. Both have received considerable attention in the International
market as the significant oil producers. In the case of Nigeria, despite the great fortune, unequal share
of oil revenue and prevailing corruptions around oil revenue provoked the increased political tensions
among regional

Charlie And Henry Differences
Charlie and Henry were the same people, stuck in the same time, but stuck in different bodies with
few differences. In paragraph two, I ll be going over the differences between Charlie and Henry. The
third and fourth will be comparing the two. Charlie and Henry were very similar and very different in
their own ways.
Charlie and Henry were both sort of...different. They were from two completely different states,
Charlie in Minnesota and Henry in Ohio. Henry was one of the more mature ones from the group.
Henry was actually legal age to join the war, but Charlie was only a 15 year old boy trying to provide
for his family. Henry got off easy with his injury, Henry was hit upside the head with a gun, while
Charley took a bullet. The contrasts of

Meanwhile, due to Logan s age I was able to question his performance in school and how it was
relative to his peers. Logan continued to explain, I was nervous and do not talk much. As I continued
to investigate I asked about how well he performs in school. He replied with, it is hard for me to study
and focus, due to his anxiety and stress (R, Logan). Afterward, I asked, compared to his peers, he told
me he feels left out because other students finish homework or tests before me. He also stated, I am
always the last one (R, Logan). These statements concerned me. Although, a bright child, I understood
Logan is feeling anxiety and feeling alone, something that is clearly affecting the teen.

say Logan s vocabulary is relative to his peers. Words that he uses are ma instead of mom or mother,
Ugh which is a form of expressing disappointment. Huh, this is an informal way of saying what (R,
Logan). Formal code of speech is defined as using formal language around and greeting, like
honorifics. Honorifics include using terms like Mr., Mrs., Professor, and Dr. (Byerwalter). Informal
code of speech is using language like, dude and brother, or homie (Byerwalter). I have found that
Logan uses informal code when he is joking around with his friends. However, when Logan is around

BMC Neurology Study
The changes in personality and behavior because of brain damage affect the daily tasks of people that
suffer from brain injury. Everyone behaves differently from others and everyone acts different in
social situations. Our brain is what makes who we are, and the brain also stores all of the information
an individual has learned throughout the years. There has been multiple studies that have found how
complex the brain really is and how our socio cognitive skills helps individuals get through social
tasks, but it may be difficult if an individuals personality changes after brain damage. The socio
cognitive skills is how individuals see and apply information about other people and social situations.

damage. At the same time, there hasn t been a lot of studies trying to see a deficit of socio cognitive

the brain is related with a deficit in social cognition, particularly in people s emotions. The BMC

people involved in this study were to take patients with brain damage by having a wide range, so there
would be a broad sample to see the relationship between apathy and socio cognitive skills. The tests

of the brain injury, and the combination of all the tests that were done on all of the patients. All of the

Is it really possible to predict the actions of any person based on the past? A Scandal in Bohemia from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Blue Cross from The Innocence of Father Brown by G.K. Chesterton both attempt to answer these questions, albeit in different ways. Sherlock Holmes reliance on human nature fails him as the criminal, Irene Adler, ends up outsmarting him. Holmes thinks that he s outsmarted the criminal, but when he goes to retrieve the letter finds a different one in its place. In one section of the letter, Adler writes well, [she] followed [Holmes] to [his] door, and so made sure that [she] was really an object of interest to the celebrated Mr. Sherlock Holmes (19). While his reliance on human nature was enough to have the location of the letter revealed to him, he ends up being beaten anyways. Adler writes that [she] had been warned against [Holmes] months ago. [She] had been told that if the King employed an agent, it would certainly be [Holmes] (19). She uses her own knowledge of human nature paired with outside information to outsmart the detective. Where Holmes trusted completely in his own knowledge, Adler utilized an outside warning to realize what had actually happened. Simply relying on human nature wasn t enough for Sherlock Holmes, and Doyle uses this to show that not only is human nature very complex, but it s also not always completely useful in and of ... The organizational structure is the different hierarchy s and arrangement of authority, roles and duties in an organization. The Cheesecake factory has a very effective organizational structure which allows for its operations to run smoothly and enables the Cheesecake factory to be one of the highest earning restaurant chains. The structure contains three main levels. The first and highest level is the board of directors which contains 7 members, including the CEO David Overton and 6 directors. It is a centralized system, where decisions and recommendations come from the top down. However it is also flexible giving any employee the freedom to reach out to an upper level director. This succession of power lets Cheesecake Factory operate smoothly and competently. Each location manager has to go through extensive training to be able to be in that position and is well qualified to look over the whole restaurant. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would say they should keep their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher monitoring of lower levels. The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee reviews of working at Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general managers. Many of them claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay attention to the hard work of the employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be overbearing and lack communication skills with employees. Another overarching theme was the inconsistent breaks because they are up to the discretion of the manager. My recommendation would be to invest more in the employees and the directors that are above the general managers to make sure that the employees are satisfied. Promote company values more and participative leadership and more incentive for employees to go above and beyond and focus on team building as opposed to individual competition. In one of the reports they even said themselves that the success of the business is due to happy employees. • 7. ‘Business’ and Its ‘Environment’ Business and Its Environment Introduction  Every business organization has to interact and transact with its „environment‟.  The effectiveness of interaction of an enterprise with its environment primarily determines the success or failure of a business.  The environment imposes several „constraints‟ on an enterprise and has a considerable impact and influence on the scope and direction of its activities. The enterprise, on the other hand, has very little control over its environment.  The business environment presents two challenges to the enterprise, viz., the challenge to combat the environmental threats (such as intensification of competition, declining market etc.) and to exploit the business opportunities.  The basic job ... Typically, for a NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. A parent is the main socializing agent. He or she teaches personal integrity, self determination, interpersonal skills, and core values from an early age (book). Primary parenting functions include ways of interacting with children to meet their needs (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The initial lessons that parents share with their children are taught with the hopes of them becoming inherent. Although the lessons parents teach may evolve based upon the developmental age of their children, the responsibilities of parents remain. From the time children are born, parents are held accountable for the socialization of their children as well as meeting their physical and basic needs, supporting the child emotionally, and communicating with them (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). The Parent Child Relationship Over the Life Course Over the life course, children will develop and grow as the essential encouragement and support evolves as they mature. Parents must be able to adapt their relationships to continue to provide the support their children require. Several theories can be applied to understand the parent child relationship, some describing the changes in the relationship over time (Bigner Gerhardt, 2014). Pride and Prejudice is a novel fixated on marriage: throughout, all the action occurs within scenes devoted to either the talk of marriage or actual proposals. This cannot be expounded more than within the very first line: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife . Here, at the beginning of the novel, a definite, though somewhat sarcastic, statement introduces the main theme of the novel marriage and, possibly more importantly, not love. His introduction to Elizabeth is not a pleasant one, although he is too ignorant to notice; she finds him a conceited, pompous, narrow minded, silly man . Her observation is quite correct, and illustrated to the greatest affect in his proposal speech. Collins does not seem to possess his own conception of love: he intends to get married merely because it is the particular advice and recommendation of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, his patron and first love . He even goes so far as to explain this to Elizabeth within his proposal; Mr Collins you must marry, Chuse...a gentle woman for my [Lady Catherine s] sake , showing his complete inaptitude to understand the feelings of others. What makes one a hero varies in cultures with opposing values. In the novel, Things Fall Apart, written by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo lives in pre colonial Nigeria in a clan where he is considered a hero. While he is aggressive in nature partially due to the fact that his father was soft and a man of no title Okonkwo is still considered a hero because in his clan, masculinity is cherished most among men; specifically, Okonkwo is a tragic hero. Conversely, in the epic, The Odyssey, written by Homer in ancient Greece, Odysseus is praised as a hero. Journeying home from war, Odysseus overcomes obstacles with the help of Greek gods and entities, making him an epic hero. Some may disagree, but Odysseus and Okonkwo are heroes in their own right. Though they are both heroes, Okonkwo fits the structure of a tragic hero better than the epic hero, Odysseus. A staple characteristic that tragic heroes have are the flaws that conquer them. This characteristic attributed to a shorter sitting height but rather, a greater leg length to sitting height ratio (Gilsanz, 1998). Overall, the African American children accounted for a 10.7% and 5.7% increase in vertebral bone density and femoral cross sectional area, respectively, in relation to their White counterparts (Gilsanz, 1998). The reason behind the bone mineral content and bone mass being advanced in African Americans is that they are better able to resist bone resporption by parathyroid hormone (Gilsanz, 1998). Another theory is that greater muscle mass puts stress on which in turn develops greater bone mineral content and density (Wagner and Heyward, 2000). By having these mechanisms to better strengthen bone, there is evidence to prove that, in general, as African Americans age their bones will be less problematic for them whereas the Whites will tend to have more problems. As expected, greater bone mineral content as well as areal bone mineral density was identified in African American children and adults relative to Whites (Kalkwarf et al., 2012). The P value less than 0.01, from the Tukey HSD test, shows that the outcomes are not coincidental but that there is a numerical or scientific reason for the results of the experiment. The outcomes of the experiment show that there are significant differences between each bolus type. Exact bolus placement, calculating constant air pressure and room temperature, rounding errors, and human error are limitations that could skew the results of this experiment. The results are consistent with prior studies that indicate there are alternative bolus material options that are more effective than Superflab. According to the ratios to water in Table 1, investigators conclude that uncooked rice is the best alternative to Superflab due to the fact that it is more similar and consistent than Superflab to solid water when providing Dmax. The data infers that although using the alternative variables will suffice as bolus, the compositions of Superflab, green Play Doh, and orange Play Doh do not provide the maximum dose build up as well as uncooked rice. In conclusion, this experiment narrows the informational gap when researching bolus materials and provides an answer to the question of which bolus will be best to use in radiation ... The three wars that Americans fought between the end of the 19th century and the mid point of the 20th century involved reasoning as varied as economic benefits or international tranquility. When the United States finally declared war against Spain on 25 April 1898, those in charge of making such decisions had an event with which to convince those who were unsure that war was necessary. The explosion of the USS Maine, an American battleship, on 15 February 1898 provided the impetus for declaring war ostensibly under the feeling of national security. Of the various reasons that Americans held as acceptable reasons to go to war with Europe, only one truly was a matter of national security. The submarine attacks on merchant vessels, though despicable, were not about attacking American soil. The Problem Of Sorcery And Witchcraft Essay In the chapter The Problem of Sorcery and Witchcraft in the Age of Reformation, the section John Calvin: Witchcraft and the Reformation discusses what is considered witchcraft, and why it is. In his Sermon of Deuteronomy, John Calvin does this by distinguishing the roles of Enchanters, Sorcerers, Calkers, workers with Familiars, and of such as ask counsel of the dead, within context of both old and new testaments and the church reformation. In doing so, Calvin maintains the concept of surrendering a soul to the devil in accordance to the continuing belief of witchcraft. In relation to other documents within the chapter, the overall concept referring to an intensifying fear of witchcraft is based on theological events in sixteenth century Europe during the church reformation. The document by Calvin provides one of three viewpoints regarding witchcraft during this era; the three viewpoints being Protestant, Catholic, or the notion that witchcraft in general is not real. However, despite the differences of opinion, all sides seem to agree on the concept that witchcraft in general is not good. In this particular document of the chapter, John Calvin, taking the protestant approach, describes the concept of witchcraft as a pact between the devil and a witch; the witch being someone who practices things such as enchantments, sorcery, speaking with the dead, etc. This relationship between the devil and the witch is a direct result of what Calvin describes as: Satan s ... The author of the article discusses how Shakespeare is making a connection between the actors and informers. The author suggests that this connection was not accidental because it is used to connect debates between authority and corruption. It is focusing on Hamlet s first encounter with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and the phrase hawk from a handsaw from the play. Imagery of predatory birds is used to describe the informers. This article s audience would probably be people who are familiar with the play. I found this article useful because it was a very detailed textual criticism. It also provides evidence for the argument that handsaw is a corrupted form of the word heronshaw, or young heron. There are many explanations about how the use of birds of prey in Shakespeare s play Hamlet expresses Hamlet s recklessness. The author pulls many different interpretations into his argument from various scholars. Brooks, Onel. How Might Hamlet Help to Educate Psychotherapists?. • 27. Ilya Kaminsky s We Lived Happily During The War I think it s fair to say that a majority of people in the United States get up every morning with only miniscule problems to worry about. We are not affected by a crashing economy. We don t have mass numbers of people starving to the point where they are skin and bone. We don t deal with people trying to kill us for having different religious views as them. We don t have a multitude of corrupt groups fighting for power over our nation. We don t wake up surrounded by damages of the atrocities caused by extremist s bombs. Other countries, however, are not this fortunate, and Ilya Kaminsky s poem, We Lived Happily During the War does an excellent job of pointing this out. It s clear when reading this poem, the main theme of it is that there are people in this world who are not nearly as fortunate as us. We feel bad for them and make a big deal out of how horrible their situation is. Yet, we don t actually go out and do anything worthwhile about it for fear of losing our own comforting bubble of safety. The idea of us feeling bad for those in direr situations and crying for something to be done appears right at the beginning of the poem when it says, And when they bombed other people s houses, we protested, (Ilya Kaminsky, 1 and 2). This quote is very apparently true to us. The news, for several years now, has been full of protests saying that we need to offer help to people in war stricken and terrorist filled countries. In order to determine the merits of Santa Claus and his effects on Christmas, we must objectively review how his story aligns with the story of Jesus Christ. Although Jesus is the reason for the season, distractions such as commercialism, religion and cultural division have all played a part in detracting from this core message, however, these things can all be reasoned with truth. But how do you reason with fiction? How can we inject fantasy into the center of truth and maintain its veracity? The concept of Santa Claus is something we are supposed to grow out of. Its celebrated as good, wholesome fun for children, but how does he work alongside God. If we tell children that both Santa and God are real and expect them to grow beyond one, then why not both. In truth they both require the same substance to believe in there existence; faith in the unseen are both required to believe, but faith in a lie is manipulation. The potency of Jesus Christ birth and ultimate, salvation of humanity, is put on undue trial when one story is revealed as lie. • 29. Learning Theology With The Church Fathers Summary Learning Theology with the Church Fathers by Dr. Christopher A. Hall is a great place for a pastor, laity, student, or a believer to start growing in knowledge of the Lord and learning theology. Learning Theology is the second book in Dr. Hall s three volume patristic series examining early Church history Reading Scripture, Learning Theology, and Worshiping with the Church Fathers. Dr. Hall is the director of academic spiritual formation and a distinguished professor of theology at Eastern University in Pennsylvania. He earned his Ph.D. at Drew University, has worked in some capacity at Eastern University since 1992, and has ministered all over the world. Hall offers a simple overview, not focusing on one particular church father, which provides a strong foundational introduction for understanding how theology developed in the early church through the patristic fathers. His methodology ties life in the early church with today s everyday believers, which will help them to understand rudimentary theology. Introduction This report is to help introduce the low income of countries such as Chad and Papua New Guinea, and comparing them to a country such as Sweden who has no income. For years, certain countries, as the two listed above cannot maintain a lifestyle with the incomes that are available to them. Using incomes will help to see where the problem is occurring and how it might be approached to aid the countries. Reporting on the countries will give insight into a historical background including independence of the countries, along with education, literacy, life factors, and poverty by using the GINI to show how wide the gaps can be and become. Historical Background In 1946 Chad became an Overseas Territory of France and on August 11, 1960 obtained independence, but short lived, because of a tyrant dictator, Francois Tombalbaye, who never really released them from his grip, and Chad had been in a civil war, until 1990 when Idriss Deby, a military commander, took control and with his rule, multi party politics has returned to Chad, giving some freedoms back to its citizens (Chad s long road to independence, 2010). Analysis Of The Movie Julien Donkey Boy In his sophomore film, Julien Donkey Boy (1999), director Harmony Korine tunes in to the psychotic perspective of Julien (Ewan Bremner) a suburban schizophrenic with raisin black eyes and detachable dentistry and his almost equally grotesque family, in a disorderly smear of violence, incest, and finally, tragedy. The film s fragmented narrative structure, with its grainy and hand held visual style, shudders on to the screen in a fusillade of discursive vignettes, that reflect, not only the digital dexterity of its director, but the haunting psychosis of its titular protagonist. It is the inarticulate jumble of Julien s psychology which is the organizing principle of the film. And, it is precisely how we as viewers identify with this character and become complicit in his pathological perspective which this essay will continue to explore. In conventional Hollywood cinema, narrative is subservient to the viewer s overall pleasure and ease of understanding, as it provides an overarching framework which may elucidate the motivations and consequences of a character s actions. However, Korine expresses his dismay with classical narrative, I can t stand plots, because I don t feel life has plots.
