This document outlines Joy Buck's initial plans for her magazine project. She considers doing a dog magazine or video game magazine but is unsure if she can complete those ideas. She creates mind maps exploring 3 potential topics. Her final mind map leads her to create a magazine about being a tomboy. She creates a mood board analyzing the repetition in color, style and mood of the images. This will influence the aesthetic of her magazine. She develops a schedule with tasks like taking photos, finalizing writing and layout, and completing the project in 5 weeks.
2. Initial Reaction
At first, my I had no idea of what subject my Magazine would be. I thought of
subjects that I could potentially take photographs of. Also, I needed a subject
that I could write 750 words about. One idea that I thought of was a dog
magazine because I have dogs and I am a fan of taking photographs of them.
In my opinion, I think that I would enjoy creating this magazine but I would
have no-idea of what to write about in it. Another idea that I thought of was a
video game magazine, in particular a game called the sims. I could take
screen shots in my game and write about them. I like this idea a lot as I would
have a lot of fun making it. I get to play it at the same time as doing work. I
don’t know if I would be able to carry out this idea because It is not
photograph that I have created.
If I cannot carry out these two ideas, I have no idea of what subject to
complete my project on. I think I will think of something to create within the
time limit.
10. Mood Board Analysis
There is various repetition in my images such as the colour, style and mood.
The first thing I had noticed was the colour of most of the images. In
particular the clothing. The clothing is mostly black with a pop of colour such
as red, teal, white or blue. I think that I can use this as a colour code for the
front cover of my magazine. I can make the colour of the text the same as the
bright popped out colours. This with make the magazine look aesthetically
pleasing for the reader it is directed towards.
The next thing that I had noticed was the style of the images. They were all of
course what a tomboy would wear. However, they also could make a big tone
for the whole magazine. It is masculine, stereotypically as like other
magazines you could know which audience that this was aimed at e.g. the
editors in the cosmopolitan magazine used a lot of pinks, reds or purples to
make it stereotypically for women. I could complete the same technique just
with masculine colours.
11. Mood Board Analysis
The last thing I had noticed was the mood of the images. The people in the
images have an attitude. I think that this is an important message to convey in
my magazine through my photographs and images of myself. These can be
different attitudes, they don’t necessarily have to be sad or happy. This is why
I will show attitude through the fonts and colours in my magazine.
I will use the colours, style and moods of these images to influence my
magazine in a big way. I will use the colours to match different colours from
the fonts, backgrounds and images to match each other the aesthetically
please the audience. Similarly, I will use the style of clothing to make a
stereotypical masculine magazine to draw the reader in with colours. Finally, I
will convey an attitude through the model (me) to draw the reader in, such as
eye contact on the front page.
