In the film Metropolis, Fritz Lang uses film techniques and specific genre devices
to communicate to the audience the ideas and concepts featured in Metropolis. Lang
uses elements from both Science Fiction and Dystopian film genres, as well as
elements of German Expressionism to warn future generations about the dangers of
technology and science, human ambition and industrialisation. The science fiction
genre typically uses a futuristic setting, feature characters that try to challenge or
test the morals and boundaries of human ambition and science, has technology that
is incongruous with the time period of release and has a new political and societal
structure. The futuristic setting used in Metropolis is based upon New York City,
which Lang visited before making the film, the large skyscrapers represent man s
ambition and are symbolic of the Tower of Babel, from the Old Testament, which is
a story about ambition and rebellion. It is through these motif and techniques that
Lang expresses his concerns for the future. Elements such as the use of chiaroscuro,
use of reflective surfaces, anthropomorphism and art deco elements (seen in the

Cheating in high school typically carries over to higher education where there is

the technological age advances, are students educated on what constitutes cheatings,
has cheating become more mainstream in the American educational system, and is

whether mature minors have the right to access doctor assisted suicide within

Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) believes that this three year deadline Is not
enough time to gather adequate and appropriate information on whether this
practice should be allowed to be extended to minors under the age of 18. Currently,

Friday nights during the fall season are what every high school football player
looks forward to. After a long week of being yelled at, running hills, and practicing,
all any high school football player wants to do is run out of the tunnel with the
crowd screaming your name and gear up for a football game. However, I was not a
Varsity player during the 2017 17 season. I played only Junior Varsity which was
nowhere near the same as Varsity football. I played on Monday nights and only
about thirty people would take the time to show up to a Junior Varsity game.
Although, one Friday night would change my football career and change my life. I
was only a sophomore at the time, so I was still new to high school football and I
wasn t the greatest athlete either. I am on my second year of highschool football,
and now is when football got very intense for me because the coaches were getting
us ready for Varsity football. Early in the season our starting center on the team got
injured with a very severe concussion that kept him out the whole season. I was
playing Junior Varsity as a left tackle so I never thought I would have to play
center. However a few weeks and games went by and one day our backup center
got hurt in practice. The next day my coach called me into his office and said, you
are the backup center now so i m going to need you to be ready for the game this
week if we need you. My heart sunk into my chest because I was so nervous and

class has taken ideas of cinematography, theory, and film history and practically

films from this term, Casablanca (Curtiz, 1942) and North by Northwest

On the other hand, North by Northwest is not nearly as good a movie (though that is
a subjective opinion). It does not appear to be as well crafted as other classic films,
not to mention other Hitchcock films. The worst offender during this movie is the
dialogue writing. Not only is it particularly cringe worthy in regard to how it
characterizes women, but it does not sound believable throughout the film. Contrasted
to Casablanca, it is not as strong of a narrative. Not only that, but a feminist reading
of the film in any way is going to pick apart the storyline for Eve, as well as the
dialogue surrounding her character. The secretary is also poorly characterized. Both
are not new for female characters in classic films, but North by Northwest s
characterization of the two was particularly poor to me. The story feels like it ends
right before the climax, rushes to finish with resolution, and gets confusing in
certain areas. Compared to Hitchcock s other work, like Psycho or Rear Window,
this movie has characters that are flat, and a story that is confusing. Additionally, the
acting was not good enough to carry the script either. Cary Grant did not sell his
character to me, and that was disappointing. I simply could not invest in the
character, which is what the entire narrative was asking. The supporting cast is also
exceedingly forgettable. So much so I cannot speak about them in this paper because

The Stanford Prison Experiment conducted in 1970 by Zimbardo was an experiment
used to determine human behavior in a negative environment. Psychologist Philip
Zimbardo wanted to determine whether prison guards and prisoner s behaviors were
affected due to their roles. He wanted to see if those roles would deteriorate their
morals and ethics that they had prior to the experiment. He wanted to see what would
happen to an individual who had their dignity and sense of control taken away from
them. The experiment was conducted randomly. A correctional facility was built in
the basement of Stanford University to conduct the experiment. Participants could
apply to the experiment from the newspaper ad which offered fifteen dollars a day
to participate. Participants were placed into two categories. They either had to be a
prisonguard or a prisoner. The prison guards wore clothing that were similar to
military outfits and were given wooded baton and shades that prevented eye contact.
Due to the shades, guards felt less conscious of how to treat prisoners. Prisoners

Gerald was trying to show that he did something prodigious, this is the use of
litotes. This quote represents Gerald as being naive because he just assumed that
she was dismal and lonesome. In the stage directions the author used the verb
hesitatingly . This advocates that he was re thinking what he was trying to say so
he didn t look guilty. The phrase nothing less implies that the playwright tries to
emphasise the rest of the sentence to show how desperate Eva Smith was. We also
know this because in the play it tells us that she was in the Palace Bar . This

should be rewarded. This will be acknowledged by direct reports but then taken up
the chain command, only to find out that it s not relevant at that level. How does
