Ap World History Sugar Trade Dbq
The sugar trade was driven by its easy accessibility of slaves, land, and the sugar itself. Due to these
characteristics the sugar trade flourished greatly through much of the world. Slaves were a main
reason for the increase in sugar crops. The trading of slaves was already increasing at the time and
therefore made obtaining them even easier. Document 10 show the correlation between slave
population and sugar produced. It demonstrates how an increase in slaves produced an increase in
sugar. Slaves provided a simple and easy way to maintain the sugar crops. Document 11 lists items
that English merchants used to purchase slaves. The list includes ordinary things such as powder, toys,
and brass pans that could be bought in markets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stoichiometry Of Reactants And Reactants
Furthermore, stoichiometry helps to figure out the limiting reactants and the excess reactants. The
limiting reactant is the reactant that limits the amount of product formed in the chemical reaction.
Which also means the reaction will stop when all of the limiting reactant is consumed. In the other
hand, excess reactant is a reactant that completely used up and it remains when a reaction stop when
the limiting reactant. Moreover, stoichiometry can be used to figure out the actual yield which is the
amount actually produced of a product vs. the amount of products calculated from the complete
reaction of the limiting reactant which is theoretical yield. Also, stoichiometry assists to calculate the
percent yield, which is the ratio of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay Informative Speech About Tattoos
It seems like everyone has one these days. What used to be the property of sailors, outlaws, and biker
gangs is now a popular body decoration for many people. And it s not just anchors, skulls, and
battleships anymore, from school emblems to Celtic designs to personalized symbols; people have
found many ways to express themselves with them. Maybe you ve thought about getting one. Well
before you head down to the nearest tattoo shop and roll up your sleeve, there are a few things you
need to know.
So You Ask, What Exactly is a Tattoo? A tattoo is a puncture wound, made deep in your skin, that s
filled with ink. The tattoo is made by penetrating your skin with a needle and injecting ink into the
area creating some sort of design of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it looks a lot cooler than a big scab, a new tattoo is also a wound and like any other scrape,
puncture, cut or penetration to your skin, a tattoo is at risk for infections and disease. You need to
make sure you are up to date with your immunizations (especially hepatitis and tetanus shots) and plan
where you will get medical care if your new tattoo does become infected. Signs of infection include
excessive redness or tenderness, prolonged bleeding, pus, or changes in your skin color around the
tattoo. If you have a medical problem such as heart disease, allergies, diabetes, skin disorders or any
condition that affects your immune system or are prone to infections, you should ask your doctor
before deciding to get a tattoo. Also, if you are prone to getting keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue
in the area of the wound), it s probably best to avoid getting a tattoo altogether.
Avoiding Infection It s very important to make sure the tattoo studio is clean and safe, and that all
equipment is disposable (needles, gloves, masks, etc.) and that everything is sterilized. You can call
your state, county, or local health department to ask for recommendations on licensed tattoo shops, or
to ask about any complaints about a particular studio.
Professional studios take pride in their cleanliness; here are a few things to check for:
Make sure the studio has an autoclave which is a device that

This way it becomes easier to understand how vulnerable the things the world takes for granted are.
Better understanding and insight of the value leads to appreciating it more, and provides a stronger
awareness and protection of the environment and habitat of the ecosystem. Calculating a monetary
value makes it even more powerful, because it seems like people have an easier time valuing services
that have their economic value in numbers over services that have a moral value only described
through the importance of them. Having a monetary value also makes it easier for governments to
make reasonable decisions and policies about the ecosystem. But at the same time, putting an obvious
price and financial value on nature makes it a commodity that can be traded, which can put its
biodiversity into dangerous, especially for rare species and habitats. (Valuing Ecosystem, Biodiversity

The Main Assumptions Of Family Social Exchange Theory
Family Social Exchange theory is the idea that social change and stability represent a process of cost
and benefit between the two parties or individuals: how much effort is put into the relationship versus
how much effort our companion is contributing. This theory proposes that in order to understand one
another and the choices made by them, we must understand what that individuals finds to be
motivating or rewarding.
Main Assumptions As there are many assumptions on social exchange, one of the assumptions to
know is that people are motivated by self interest. Meaning that we seek things or relationships that
are beneficial to ourselves. Like weighing the cost and rewards of a relationship or product that is
bought for a purpose. Thus, we, as human being finds more pleasurable to engage in a relationship or
interactions that will be more beneficial and rewarding, while avoiding the least cost or punishment.
When people choose to help others, they do so because of personal gain they expect to obtain from
doing so. An example could be that someone might feel that their job takes advantage of them and
therefore, that person decides to quit the job and look for another job if they think that they could get a
better job for the same about of effort. An example of this explanations is that my co worker, who
worked with me at Taco Bell decides to quit her job at Taco Bell because she felt that there was just
too much work and the customers are mean. Instead she found another job

Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment on his
daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer
interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained
that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the
fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more
promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The
active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme
which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving
for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with
potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during
the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent
as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended
population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left
with more confidence in the product. Dr. Oz specifically manipulates his language with the objective
to entice women, referring to weight loss as a decrease in dress size. Dr. Oz conveys a sense of

Cellular Boundaries Are Permeable
In biology, I learned that cellular boundaries can be permeable. Initially, this concept was intriguing in
and of itself, that cells can release and absorb information to perform necessary functions. Three years
later, that particular biology class and the principle it revealed has held a place in my mind. The phrase
boundaries are permeable returns to my thoughts at odd times, not always bearing the original
scientific connotation. Most often, the phrase returns when there is an overlap in subject matter, an
opportunity to bridge ideas that were previously considered distinct to respective areas of study. The
three words have remained with me, serving to analogize the ability to effectively apply information
across disciplines, something I wish to accomplish on my career path. In my academic experience,

Cannibalism And Ansazi Civilization Summary
The key or lead figure and researcher for the Cannibalism and Anasazi Civilization , was Dr. Christy
Turner (1933 2013). Dr. Turner was an anthropologist, who also taught classes at ASU (Arizona State
University). When Dr. Turner passed away in July of 2013 ASU made a touching statement on their
former employee, Turner was a prolific and influential researcher for more than 40 years. (ASU: In
memory) ASU also stated Dr. Turner had, His broad interests spanned the world and all four fields of
anthropology: physical anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and sociocultural anthropology. (ASU:
In memory. https://asunow.asu.edu/content/memory influential anthropologist christy g turner ii )
Dr. Christy Turner is known for unveiling the acts of cannibalism that had taken place in the Anasazi
civilization. According to an article in the LA Times, Dr. Turner had looked over 76 sites previously
excavated in 1893. These sites had shown signs of violence and possibly cannibalism. According to
Dr. Turner 38 out of the 76 sites, majority in the 90 mile radius from the Four Corners area,
approximately 286 people had been butchered and eaten. (LA Times:
http://articles.latimes.com/1998/dec/20/local/me 55814/2 ) Dr. Turner had a hard time due to the fact
that no one wants to believe that someone could do that to another person. Especially, from the Hopi
nation. The Hopi nation stated, arguing that the claim of cannibalism is a slanderous stain on their
ancestors. (LA Times:

Comparing God In Norse Mythology And Odin
Mythology is the belief of gods and goddesses that explain the meanings behind complex natural
occurrences such as earthquakes, tornadoes, thunderstorms etc. These god gave people something to
believe in to help come to an understanding of the unexplainable. Two gods that will be explained in
this research paper are Ares from Greek mythology and Odin from Norse mythology. A good that
would be a suitable and knowledgeable mentor would be Odin the Allfather.
Ares is a Greek god who is the son of Hera and Zeus. Often Ares is seen as the opposite of Athena
because she is the goddess of intelligence, wisdom, and military strategy while Ares is viewed as an
arrogant brute. Disliked by most or all the Olympians including his parents; Ares represents the
disgusting horrid details of war. He claims the throne as the God of War. Textual evidence that proves
my claim is Strong, muscular, and often cruel, Ares, the Greek god of was the most despised of all the
Olympians. (Nardo p.75 76) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many titles are claimed by Odin, he is the god of war, allfather, and many others. Most interpretations
of Odin is that he is big and wizzard like. Some skills or powers that he dawns are sorcery, healing,
and wisdom. Odin often sides with a more apathetic attitude and cares little for morals. The allfather is
also credited with creation of all life. Textual evidence to support my claim is He was a shape changer,
able to enter any place or condition he chose, and to conquer death, but his chief function was as
lawgiver and ruler of the Gods and mortals... (Mcleish

Dislocating My Kneess
The event that I would have to say I experienced in my like that changed my outlook on life would
have to be when I dislocated both of my knees last year a week and a day after New Year s Day. The
reason I choose this experience is because through hardships and stumbles God always has a plan and
reason for it. Like Jeremiah 29:11 13 (NIV) says 11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the
LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you
will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me
when you seek me with all your heart. This is the verse I apply daily to my life. I dislocated both of
my knees doing one of my greatest passions, dance. I was doing a standard turn called the ice skaters

The time it took for me to get to the hospital for doctors to relocate my knees to their rightful place felt
like an eternity but was only about an hour in a half. After that I had to do, and still do at my house,
physical therapy and learn how to walk all over again without any braces, canes, crutches or a walker
to support my knees and keep them from dislocating again. In this painful process I also developed
RSD/CRSP, or Reflux Pain Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome/ Complex Regional Pain Syndrome,
which is when your nerves are hyper sensitive to touch and causes extreme pain. I also developed
Bursitis, which is bursa inflammation or inflammation under the muscle that pushes against the bones
and causes pain as my physical therapist explained it. I am in constant pain but when I think I can t go
any further or I want to give up I look to the Lord and keep faith because I know that God has a plan
for doing this and He wants me to know that He carries me when I can t go any more and teaches me

Thesis On Honesty
Honesty can be defined as a facet of the moral character that conveys virtuous and positive attributes
including truthfulness, integrity, and straightforwardness of the conduct. The word honesty also refers
to the absence of cheating, theft, and lying. It also means to be sincere, fair and loyal to others.
Overall, it can be stated that honesty is a positive characteristic and attribute of an individual that
affects other in a positive manner. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the word honesty. This paper
will also discuss different perspectives of this word. This paper will also discuss my personal opinion
about the word honesty.

Almost all religions of the world promote and encourage honesty. Since the purpose of this paper is
not to discuss this paper with regard to religious types, therefore, it is just to mention here that all
religions of the world encourage honesty in all affairs of life. If one person behaves and acts in an
honest manner, then he will ultimately be rewarded either in a direct way or some indirect way. The
individual will get benefit by adopting the characteristic of honesty.
If one person is not honest, then he may have to speak several lies throughout his life. He will have to
speak lies in order to hide other lies. As a result, the chain of lies will continue that will ultimately
result in personal as well as a religious loss for the individual. Similarly, if an individual speaks the
truth and does not lie with others, then he will be rewarded in either way. Therefore, it can be said that
the people should not lie with others.
One part of honesty means to act in a certain way towards other. However, another part of the
definition of honesty means to treat others in a way you expect others to treat you. Similarly, this
definition of honesty means to be honest with yourself. If you consider yourself in a situation while
treating other, then it is more likely to be treated in a more lively, ethical and honest

Femmer s Murder Is Wrong
The Natural Law Theory suggested that Elmer s murder is wrong because it violates moral principles.
While I do agree with this, Gray makes a strong argument in the sense that the court is expected to
follow the law created by the people in authority. Before Francis s death, there was no mistakes in the
will and the language of the statute governing wills was clearly written, making it a valid one. In other
words, the court is required to uphold the validity of the will. In placing morality above the demands
of the law, the majority judges meets the burden of overruling the written law. Therefore, positivists
would agree that the rules governing wills must be applied as written and that a benefactor must

The Role Of Abortion In The United States
Over the past few centuries state and federal laws concerning a females reproductive rights have
changed dramatically. The female population has been greatly affected by many laws regarding their
reproductive rights and their ability to make educated decisions about family planning. The 1973 case
Roe vs. Wade set the motion to allow women to control their bodies and their decision to end a
pregnancy through abortion. Prior to this case, in almost all 50 states abortions were deemed illegal.

Paper 1:
In My Antonia, a classic coming of age novel, Jim is the main character. Jim is very accepting,
intelligent, and strong. His good natured personality is a constant throughout the novel, making it an
enjoyable tale. Jim used his tragic past to become a wonderful role model.
Thanks to his strong personality and nature, Jim develops into a wonderful man by the end of the
novel, despite having gone through many difficult times. He used these tragedies to form himself into
a strong person, instead of allowing it to break him down. When he was very young, he was orphaned,

A main theme of this book, is the importance of living in the present, instead of dwelling on the past.
Many of the characters in this novel carried a nostalgic perspective on life, and it influenced their
attitude towards the present. It was very common for the characters to tell stories from their past. Jim
often relates incidents in the present, to things that happened to him in the past. Jim is not the only one
focusing on the past, however. For example, Peter, one of the Russian immigrants, has a very
romanticized idea of the past, which causes him to have a depressed attitude towards the present. Jim
observed this on one particular meeting, Once, while [Peter] was looking at Ántonia, he sighed and
told us that if he had stayed at home in Russia perhaps by this time he would have had a pretty
daughter of his own to cook and keep house for him. Peter allowed the idea of what if I had... to
interfere with his future. Because of the adults what if attitude, the teens of this novel have a sense of
urgency in their lives. They witness how nostalgic the adults, and they themselves, are becoming, and
come to a realization. The good days are the first to pass, and the most fleeting. Jim takes this as an
excuse to be nostalgic on the past, a past he was not even there to witness. He looked at the wilderness
of his new home, and fantasized about how wonderful it s past was, Beyond the pond, on the slope
that climbed to the cornfield, there was, faintly marked in the grass, a great circle where the Indians
used to ride. Jake and Otto were sure that when they galloped round that ring the Indians tortured
prisoners, bound to a stake in the centre; but grandfather thought they merely ran races or trained
horses there. [...] The old figure stirred me as it had never done before. Jim looks at the past with
wonderment it is a place that was much more ideal than his present. Unlike him,

so unaccepting of certain sexualities and set on their opinion of acceptable gender roles. In this

Throughout the episode they go through trial and error to find the perfect female nanny to nurture and

Agency Costs and Financial Decision-Making
Agency Costs and Financial Decision Making
The Concept
An agency relationship is a contract under which one or more persons (the principal(s)) engage
another person (the agent) to perform some service on their behalf which involves delegating some
decision making authority to the agent. If both parties to the relationship are utility maximizers and
they may have divergent goals and objectives, and there is good reason to believe that the agent will
not always act in the best interests of the principal (Jensen, Michael C., and William H. Meckling.

In the majority of large publicly traded corporations, agency conflicts are potentially quite significant
because the firm s managers generally own only a small percentage of the common stock. Therefore,
shareholder wealth maximization could be subordinated to an assortment of other managerial goals.
For instance, managers may have a fundamental objective of maximizing the size of the firm. By
creating a large, rapidly growing firm, executives increase their own status, create more opportunities
for lower and middle level managers and salaries, and enhance their job security because an
unfriendly takeover is less likely. As a result, incumbent management may pursue diversification at
the expense of the shareholders who can easily diversify their individual portfolios simply by buying
shares in other companies. (http://www.referenceforbusiness.com/encyclopedia/AAr/Agency
Theory.html#ixzz14WVaUW4g)
Managers can be encouraged to act in the stockholders best interests through incentives, constraints,
and punishments. These methods, however, are effective only if shareholders can observe all of the
actions taken by managers. A moral hazard problem, whereby agents take unobserved actions in their
own self interests, originates because it is infeasible for shareholders to monitor all managerial
actions. To reduce the moral hazard problem, stockholders must incur agency costs.

According to yourdictinory.com, disorders are those defined as a confusion to disturb the normal
mental or physical health functions. For example those who have learning disabilities that makes it
hard for people to learn and concentrate in a classroom setting without getting frustrated. So today I
will focus on two disorders along with the diagnostics, symptoms, and treatments for each. The
information for obsessive compulsive disorder and Borderline personality disorder will come from the

Types And Symptoms Of Parkinson s Disease
Many people wonder how Parkinson s disease can affect people s lives. First, Parkinson s disease
(PD) is a neurological disorder which is made up of three types of PD that are not so different.
(Medifocus Guide Book on Parkinson s) These types of PD have many symptoms and can be hard to
control in everyday life. This is challenge that physically makes life harder. People with PD do
anything they can to help with their disorder.
To start, there isn t just one type of Parkinson s disease, but actually three. The first type of PD is
Adult Onset Parkinson s. People with this type are usually ages sixty and older. Parkinson can get

People classified under this type are ages twenty and below. There are not many people who can help
those with Juvenile PD because there are very few people with this case. (Juvenile Parkinson s) Some
people try deep brain stimulation (DBS) to help with this type of disease. If doing DBS works, you
can help one of the main symptoms, tremors, and make it almost unnoticeable. With all types of
Parkinson s, there are other symptoms that come with this disease too.
There are many symptoms when it comes to having Parkinson s disease. The first of the types are
motor symptoms. The most common, but major symptom of PD is dyskinesias or tremors. Tremors is
when you have little, uncontrollable movement in you body, such as in your arms, in your legs, and
even in your face. Also medicines such as MAO B inhibitors, COMT inhibitors, and others can cause
dyskinesias to get worse and put you in a not so good position. (Lazarus Motor)
Another motor symptom that comes with PD is speech. Ninety percent of people with Parkinson s
disease notice change in their speech. (Roberts) Also people with the speech symptom have quieter
voices. Sometimes this symptom can make someone s speech so bad, that they would have to get a
device that helps speak. (Roberts) Some devices are voice amplifiers and devices that actually speak

Music Personal Statement
A very wise mentor once advised me to, Figure out what you do; get up every day and do that . Over
my years as an undergrad music education major, I found one thing to be a constant I could not help
but ask questions. I was unable to find contentment simply learning what was taught. Participating in
the school of honors allowed my professors to assign me additional projects, where I was able to seek
out answers and, in turn, more questions. In Music History 1, my professor, Dr. Jamie Weaver,
enthusiastically encouraged my love of early music, specifically early folk music and the influence of
the crusades on the music of the common people. Research became a vital component of my education
that I loved, not just an assignment. As opportunities to present my research arose, first for community
music organizations, then for school events, professors began suggesting the field of musicology as a

our culture to teach high school students higher thinking, writing and communication skills. I would
love to develop a curriculum that uses musicology as a vehicle to improve these skills for college
preparation. I would like to write my thesis on the performance practice of a variety of folk styles,

Bird Seed Lab Report
Background There are many ways to obtain seeds to grow flowers in the springtime, but not all seeds
were created equal. Sunflower seeds, for example, can be bought at a garden store in a packet for $1.5
dollars per 6 gram packet, but they can also be found in bird seed for $3.53 dollars per 10 pounds.
This experiment intends to find if the germination of a store bought packet of sunflower seeds matches
the germination rate of sunflower seeds obtained from a bag of bird seed. While both seeds will
germinate, it is believed that the bird seed will not be as robust in growth as the garden seed, due to
the fact that the garden seed is made to be grown, while the bird seed is made for consumption.
Methods Firstly, for the setup of the experiment, two styrofoam cups were filled with two inches
worth of standard, fertilized garden soil, next four seeds from from the garden seed, and the bird seed
were placed an inch deep in separate cups. The seeds were blindly labeled, with one being labeled
group A and one being labeled group B. This was so as to efficiently conduct a double blind
experiment. The seeds were watered with approximately a teaspoon of water per day, and kept in a
sunny windowsill. They were left in the windowsill for two weeks, and watered daily. Results The

While there is some room for error, based off of the differences in students experiments, the data is
significant enough to determine which had the higher germination rate. However, this experiment
tested only the germination rate, and not the actual flowers produced by either seed. It is possible that,
while having a higher germination rate, the bird seed produces smaller sunflowers, while the garden
seed produces bigger ones. If one is purchasing seeds based solely off of germination rate or price,
however, the bird seed would be the appropriate

Etoricoxib a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Used in...
Introduction What is Etoricoxib?
Etoricoxib, also known as Arcoxia1, is more commonly known as a non steroidal anti inflammatory
drug (NSAID), or as a cyclo oxygenase 2 inhibitor (COX 2). Therapeutically, it is specified for the
symptomatic relief of conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing
spondylitis2,3, and overall for their analgesic and anti inflammatory properties. Arthritis is a chronic
disease affecting up to ten million people in the UK. Approximately 14% of all primary care visits are

3) Acute Gouty Arthritis: Given orally 120mg daily. The dose should not exceed 120 mg.
Mechanism
NSAIDs work commonly by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX 1, COX 2).
This consequently blocks the production of prostaglandins which are responsible for inflammation9.
The COX 2 isoenzyme is the particular enzyme that produces prostaglandins, which cause
inflammation. On the other hand, COX 1 isoenzymes do not produce these inflammatory
prostaglandins, but have various other effects. An important effect is maintaining a healthy stomach
and intestinal lining9. Traditional non selective NSAIDs block the action of both COX 1 and COX 2.
These can lead to harmful side effects such as intestinal damage and peptic ulcers, amongst others.
NSAIDs are commonly prescribed with a PPI to counteract these harmful side effects. In comparison
to the other NSAIDs, Etoricoxib is an orally active, selective COX 2 inhibitor2. It does not inhibit the
cyclooxygenase 1 isoenzyme. Therefore it simply lowers the prostaglandin production, consequently
meaning that there are fewer chances of stomach related side effects9.

Pharmacokinetic properties
Etoricoxib has a unique chemical structure when compared with other similar COX 2 inhibitors. This

The Innocence of the Devil by Nawal El Saadawi
In this novel, the reader (including myself) should have sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss. I felt
horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was
physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had
sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was
accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veil and supporting Satan. The judge
that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was injustice
that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born was in no way
Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! I understand that in the Islamic culture,

Australia through the research specialists Ipsos ASI in key target markets prior to the launch of the

Gwendolyn Brooks s The Mother
Gwendolyn Brooks is a famous, African American poetess who is famous for making a social
commentary upon the urban society in which she lives. Clearly seen in three of her more popular
poems, the mother , a song in the front yard , and What shall I give my children? Who are poor? ,
Brooks uses the struggles of impoverished motherhood to comment on the stymied lives of adult black
women. This is obviously evident in her use of the tone of hopelessness, which transcends all three
poems in differing forms that stem from regret in the mother , worry and overprotectiveness in a song
in the front yard and frustration of lacking the necessities for children in What shall I give my

The tone of hopelessness in this poem is very obviously the result of regret, or the feelings of what
motherhood may have been. For a majority of the poem the mother focuses on what their lives would
have been having never giggled or planned or cried (4) or how they will never wind up the sucking
thumb (4). Although these are only a few examples it is very evident how the mother, although denied
the joy of motherhood, longs for the child she almost had, saying, believe me, I knew you, though
faintly, and I loved, I loved you/ All (5). In an attempt to take a more positive outlook on the mother
tries to justify herself saying how much better the child s life would be, that as a mother she would
never have the chance to neglect or beat/ Them... (4). The story behind the mother is just one example
of hopelessness that Brooks prominently saw throughout her community, obviously this feeling of
regret and lament was prevalent throughout many women who, although chose to have abortions,
were not done out of not wanting the child, but by force in order to keep a job, house, or some other
commitment in which carrying and properly raising a child would be near impossible. Another very
powerful version of the overall tone of hopelessness in Brooks plays is the feeling of hopelessness that
stems from a mother s worry

After 30 years ever since Chernobyl, the U.S has been using nuclear energy has a type of fuel. To start,
Chernobyl was one of the world s worst nuclear disaster. A fire caused an explosion to occur at the
Chernobyl plant in Ukraine and forced more than 300,000 people to flee and caused radiation levels
that are still harmful today. After this incident, the U.S continues to use nuclear energy as a type of
fuel for buildings and more, but a meltdown or an explosion in the U.S is unlikely to happen because
of how safe facilities are in the U.S. A meltdown will rarely happen, but what is worse is the

To start, this is why the discovery is important because if nuclear waste is left alone then it could kill
or harm people. With the amount of nuclear waste the U.S keeps stored, it has enough to harm the
whole entire country. The U.S holds about 70,000 metric tons of nuclear waste at 70 sites in 39
different states. In the article, Stop Dithering on Nuclear Waste, by the Editors, the author states, Some
70,000 metric tons of it are not stored at 70 sites scattered across 39 states (Editors,3). 39 states may
not seem a lot, but 70,000 metrics tons of nuclear waste is not something to keep around; it is
something extremely dangerous to keep around. What makes everything even worse is that this waste
is being held underground in deep pools of water in dry casks made of steel and concrete and sits on
reinforced pads. The author states, The waste, hot from radioactive decay, is held in deep pools of
water or in dry casks of concrete and steel that sit on reinforced pads (Editors, 3). With the world
experiencing terrorist attacks or earthquakes, these casks are bound to get damaged by bombs or
earthquakes, which will crack the casks and force the nuclear waste to spill out. As a result, the
nuclear waste will hurt the public as it spreads life threatening radiation out into the infected area. Not
to mention that the waste can also cause fires and fires can spread for a while. This discovery is the
reason why the U.S needs to find a different way of storing all of this nuclear waste. To end, the U.S
needs to find a different way of storing all of this nuclear waste or else it will affect the

Dante In The Inferno Character Analysis
In the journey to the other world in the Inferno, Virgil function as a guide to Dante as they go down
through the gates of Hell. However, Virgil s function is not limited just as a guidance to Dante, but
also as an instructor and communicator. As their journey processes through the gates of Hell, Virgil
explains to Dante the characteristic and structures of the concentric rings of Hell and the punishment
received. At one point Dante starts to feel pity for the punishment that some of the souls are receiving,
but Virgil does not show any sympathy to the souls and reminds Dante the these souls are receiving

The Significance Of Truth In A Monster Calls By Patrick Ness
A Monster Calls: The Significance of Truth The short term pain of accepting the truth is much better
than the long term pain of believing an illusion unknown. In the novel A Monster Calls by Patrick
Ness, a 13 year old boy, Conor O malley, deals with inner struggles when accepting his mother s fatal
illness. Conor experiences hardship when coming to terms with the truth so he chooses to suppress it
with denial and this worsens his grieving process. Conor undergoes a troubling state where he is
lonesome and unwillingly expresses himself through violence and a series of emotional collapses. The
teen s way of coping is not beneficial to either him or is family. A monster in the form of a Yew tree

is in, in order to move on with his life. The Yew tree monster guides Conor through storytelling, thus
teaching him the importance of accepting the truth. At times, the monster takes a step back and this
allows Conor to discover the importance of truth slowly and independently. The way the monster
approaches Conor and the tactics he uses to enlighten him are the main reasons Conor develops

Teamwork and Leadership in Remember the Titans

Upon receiving their coaching positions, they did not yet have a unified culture of beliefs,
assumptions, or feelings because they didn t know each other and had not worked together. Coach
Boone s values were clear from the beginning; race was not to be considered. Those who work hard

This was apparent when, upon boarding the busses to training camp, he noticed that the players had

respect, integrity, loyalty and teamwork for those with whom he worked as well as with the players

slowly but surely began to show more support. Coach Boone s consistent preaching, that he did not
view the team as black and white players, but instead, simply as football players who must form

where the culture in the coaching staff began to form. Trust also began to build and the three coaches,
now more cohesive themselves were able to accomplish much more in order to coach their players
much more constructively. By the time the Titans had made it to the championship, all three coaches

to victory. Question #2 In order to properly understand the group functioning within the football team,

Beginning in the 1890 s Jim Crow laws or also known as the color line was put into effect in the

These laws were put into effect as partially a result of the reaction of the whites to blacks not
submitting to segregation of railroads, streetcars, and other public facilities. African Americans Ids B.
Wells, Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B Dubois had differing opinions on the color line. Wells and

things, First, political power, second, insistence on civil rights, third, higher education of Negro youth,

conciliation of the South. Washington believed that the blacks could not move forward without giving
up political power, civil rights, and higher education. He thought they had to give up those ideas for
now and focus on wealth, industrial education and be friendly with the south. He thought once these
objects were accomplished then the blacks could obtain the freedom and rights they wanted.
Therefore, he felt that for now the color line was ok because blacks needed to first earn their rights

government to a point on certain issues such as civil disputes, war and keeping the peace. The national
government by many was also thought to only benefit the few and many of those who founded it to
keep the balance of power just the central governments were also key. The creation of the state or
central government balanced the power against the national government Another problem that was
foreseen in the government was the belief that popular government was dangerous and unfeasible.
Government could be a great or awful thing and protecting people from government in firing on their
rights and becoming an awful thing was Jefferson in the rights that needed to be set. His first rights
included those under the name personal competency and property rights with these right people to an
extent could live their life the way they see fit, but still needed the government in order to protect
those rights and to make sure other powers or people, including the government itself could not
infringe upon them. The government was set to not take people s rights, but to give and protect them,

You need to make sure you are up to date with your immunizations (especially hepatitis and tetanus shots) and plan where you will get medical care if your new tattoo does become infected. Signs of infection include excessive redness or tenderness, prolonged bleeding, pus, or changes in your skin color around the tattoo. If you have a medical problem such as heart disease, allergies, diabetes, skin disorders or any condition that affects your immune system or are prone to infections, you should ask your doctor before deciding to get a tattoo. Also, if you are prone to getting keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue in the area of the wound), it s probably best to avoid getting a tattoo altogether. Avoiding Infection It s very important to make sure the tattoo studio is clean and safe, and that all equipment is disposable (needles, gloves, masks, etc.) and that everything is sterilized. • 6. The Main Assumptions Of Family Social Exchange Theory Family Social Exchange theory is the idea that social change and stability represent a process of cost and benefit between the two parties or individuals: how much effort is put into the relationship versus how much effort our companion is contributing. This theory proposes that in order to understand one another and the choices made by them, we must understand what that individuals finds to be motivating or rewarding. Main Assumptions As there are many assumptions on social exchange, one of the assumptions to know is that people are motivated by self interest. Meaning that we seek things or relationships that are beneficial to ourselves. Like weighing the cost and rewards of a relationship or product that is bought for a purpose. Thus, we, as human being finds more pleasurable to engage in a relationship or interactions that will be more beneficial and rewarding, while avoiding the least cost or punishment. When people choose to help others, they do so because of personal gain they expect to obtain from doing so. An example could be that someone might feel that their job takes advantage of them and therefore, that person decides to quit the job and look for another job if they think that they could get a better job for the same about of effort. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended population. Many of the characters in this novel carried a nostalgic perspective on life, and it influenced their attitude towards the present. It was very common for the characters to tell stories from their past. Jim often relates incidents in the present, to things that happened to him in the past. Jim is not the only one focusing on the past, however. For example, Peter, one of the Russian immigrants, has a very romanticized idea of the past, which causes him to have a depressed attitude towards the present. Jim observed this on one particular meeting, Once, while [Peter] was looking at Ántonia, he sighed and told us that if he had stayed at home in Russia perhaps by this time he would have had a pretty daughter of his own to cook and keep house for him. Peter allowed the idea of what if I had... to interfere with his future. Because of the adults what if attitude, the teens of this novel have a sense of urgency in their lives. For instance, managers may have a fundamental objective of maximizing the size of the firm. By creating a large, rapidly growing firm, executives increase their own status, create more opportunities for lower and middle level managers and salaries, and enhance their job security because an unfriendly takeover is less likely. Participating in the school of honors allowed my professors to assign me additional projects, where I was able to seek out answers and, in turn, more questions. In Music History 1, my professor, Dr. Jamie Weaver, enthusiastically encouraged my love of early music, specifically early folk music and the influence of the crusades on the music of the common people. Research became a vital component of my education that I loved, not just an assignment. As opportunities to present my research arose, first for community music organizations, then for school events, professors began suggesting the field of musicology as a potential path after graduation. The second path I have considered is combining my love of musicology with the need I see in our culture to teach high school students higher thinking, writing and communication skills. I would love to develop a curriculum that uses musicology as a vehicle to improve these skills for college preparation. I would like to write my thesis on the performance practice of a variety of folk styles, based on the historical heritage of the style. Understanding the history of middle eastern music, celtic music, and Western Swing, for example, allows the performer to do justice to the music being played, and allows the teacher to educate students on world music in a culturally responsive ... • 27. Bird Seed Lab Report Background There are many ways to obtain seeds to grow flowers in the springtime, but not all seeds were created equal. Sunflower seeds, for example, can be bought at a garden store in a packet for $1.5 dollars per 6 gram packet, but they can also be found in bird seed for $3.53 dollars per 10 pounds. This experiment intends to find if the germination of a store bought packet of sunflower seeds matches the germination rate of sunflower seeds obtained from a bag of bird seed. While both seeds will germinate, it is believed that the bird seed will not be as robust in growth as the garden seed, due to the fact that the garden seed is made to be grown, while the bird seed is made for consumption. Methods Firstly, for the setup of the experiment, two styrofoam cups were filled with two inches worth of standard, fertilized garden soil, next four seeds from from the garden seed, and the bird seed were placed an inch deep in separate cups. The seeds were blindly labeled, with one being labeled group A and one being labeled group B. This was so as to efficiently conduct a double blind experiment. The seeds were watered with approximately a teaspoon of water per day, and kept in a sunny windowsill. They were left in the windowsill for two weeks, and watered daily. Results The results ... Etoricoxib, also known as Arcoxia1, is more commonly known as a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID), or as a cyclo oxygenase 2 inhibitor (COX 2). Therapeutically, it is specified for the symptomatic relief of conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis2,3, and overall for their analgesic and anti inflammatory properties. Arthritis is a chronic disease affecting up to ten million people in the UK. The dose should not exceed 120 mg. Mechanism NSAIDs work commonly by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase isoenzymes (COX 1, COX 2). This consequently blocks the production of prostaglandins which are responsible for inflammation9. The COX 2 isoenzyme is the particular enzyme that produces prostaglandins, which cause inflammation. On the other hand, COX 1 isoenzymes do not produce these inflammatory prostaglandins, but have various other effects. An important effect is maintaining a healthy stomach and intestinal lining9. Traditional non selective NSAIDs block the action of both COX 1 and COX 2. These can lead to harmful side effects such as intestinal damage and peptic ulcers, amongst others. NSAIDs are commonly prescribed with a PPI to counteract these harmful side effects. In comparison to the other NSAIDs, Etoricoxib is an orally active, selective COX 2 inhibitor2. It does not inhibit the cyclooxygenase 1 isoenzyme. Therefore it simply lowers the prostaglandin production, consequently meaning that there are fewer chances of stomach related side effects9. • 32. The Innocence of the Devil by Nawal El Saadawi In this novel, the reader (including myself) should have sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss. I felt horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veil and supporting Satan. The judge that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was injustice that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born was in no way Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! I understand that in the Islamic culture, a women needs to keep their head down but what does a new born infant know about culture/religion? I can actually relate to Ganat s predicament she had about being born with her eyes wide open. My family friend gave birth to a baby girl who was had a darker skin tone than anyone else in the family and the father hated baby girl because of it. He said Indian girls are fair not dark skinned. He ended up beating his wife for giving birth to a dark skinned baby and kicked her and the baby out of the house. For a majority of the poem the mother focuses on what their lives would have been having never giggled or planned or cried (4) or how they will never wind up the sucking thumb (4). Although these are only a few examples it is very evident how the mother, although denied the joy of motherhood, longs for the child she almost had, saying, believe me, I knew you, though faintly, and I loved, I loved you/ All (5). In an attempt to take a more positive outlook on the mother tries to justify herself saying how much better the child s life would be, that as a mother she would never have the chance to neglect or beat/ Them...
