Economies Of Scale And Scope
Economies of Scope:
Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of
output at lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of
scale where production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the
barriers to entry for new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher
cost of production. Why? Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford
to sell the product at the same price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and
scope positively affect General Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest
conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity to offer products and services through the same
organization. These products might be highly unalike but due to the wide range of businesses
covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in order to continue a healthy relationship
with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar purchase of its jet engines to be
financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance opportunities are usually done
via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has pursued a service strategy when
it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by the hour this enables the
private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would award GE with
maintenance contracts on the engines. This

Social Reaction Theory And Feminist Theory Of Crimes
Social Reaction Theory and Feminist Theory of Crimes are the subject theories I am going to
review, examine, and explain. I will be discussing the evolution of social reaction and labeling
theory, which is mainly concerned with how individuals personal identities are highly influenced
by the way that society has a tendency to classify them as offenders. I will also be reviewing the
various forms of feminist theories, which began as reactions to the lack of reasonable theorizing
about why females commit crimeand why the tend to be treated far more contradictorily by the
criminal justice system. Here, I will explain these various theories with more attention on how they
thoroughly transformed the way that the crime and law were viewed. Both theories had become
popular in the 1960 s and the 1970 s due to the society looking for theories that fixed the blame for
criminal offending on government authorities. These theories also both share a common theme, by
accentuating the use of the criminal justice system to target or label certain types of groups such as
lower class, minorities, and women, as criminals while protecting the ones with power such as
white males.
Theoretical Background: Social reaction theory is also referred to as labeling theory, which is
mainly classified by how personal identities are influenced by the way authority categorizes the
offenders. The labeling results in individuals authenticating their place as criminals by developing
the seriousness of

Persuasive Essay On Surfboarding
Imagine you are at the beach. You are laying down a towel and setting up an umbrella when
something catches your eye. Out in the ocean you see a surfer catching some waves, and it looks
so fun and exciting that you almost grab a board and join in. However you don t know how to surf
and would rather not embarrass yourself in front of all these beach goers. Surfing, however, isn t
complicated at all and can be accomplished in these simple steps. Firstly, you need to get the
proper equipment. You will, of course, need a surfboard. The fun board, as well as the foam
board, is recommended for beginners. They are easy to balance and turn on. After you have
your board, you need to get a leash. It is an essential equipment to have because it makes sure
your board does not float away. Surfboard wax is also important because it keeps you from
slipping off your board, so make sure to get it. Now that you have gathered all the materials, it is
time to prepare yourself. To prepare, you can do yoga. Yoga will help you gain upper body
strength allowing you to paddle and pop up on your board faster. Besides yoga, you also need to
practice your balance. Spending some time on a wakeboard or skateboard will help. After you
practice this, you need to find your stance on the surfboard. To do this, get a skateboard or a
surfboard, and stand parallel to it. If you are using a surfboard, put something under it to keep the
fins off the ground. Place one foot in the back and the other

Misconceptions About Vaccines
Vaccines are largely debated within today s world. There isn t much debate within the medical
community, but there is debate between the medical community and the general public. There are
some people in the public who have certain misconceptions about vaccines, a couple being that
vaccines cause autism or autoimmune disorders. However, these claims have been studied
extensively, and there is no scientific evidence backing these claims. These misconceptions claim
that the vaccines affect the lymphatic, circulatory, and the immune system. The lymphatic system is
the system of vessels, cells, and organs that carries excess fluids to the bloodstream and filters
pathogens from the blood(OpenStax, 2017). The main function of the lymphatic system... Show

The main function of the circulatory system is to keep blood pumping throughout the body,
pumping, on average, 5 liters a minute. Along with pumping blood, the heart pumps waste,
nutrients, and oxygen to other organs. Each artery and vein has a specific function, carrying
blood to and from different parts of the body. The carotid arteries, both external and internal
supply blood to the head. The celiac artery supplies the majority of blood to the trunk, and it is
the only artery which allows the organs it supplies to receive an adequate blood supply. The
subclavian arteries are the main arteries of the upper extremities, but eventually branch off into
the axilla, where they fittingly become known as the axillary arteries. Finally, the second largest
artery of the body, the femoral artery, is the main blood supplier to the lower limbs. The two
main veins of the body are the inferior and superior vena cava. The superior vena cava returns
blood to the right atrium from the upper half of the body. The inferior vena cava does the
opposite, carrying blood from the lower half of the body also to the right atrium. The blood
vessels of the circulatory system and the organs of the lymphatic system work in conjunction in
order to maintain homeostasis. The lymphatic system is able to carry excess fluids to the blood
stream, while also filtering pathogens from the blood. 20 liters of plasma

The World Trade Organization Or Wto
Meaning of the Term Round
The World Trade Organization or WTO is a large group of countries formed in January of 1995
and comprised of about 165 countries, replacing GATT. According to the WTO s website
describes itself as a forum for governments to negotiate trade agreements, . . . a place for them to
settle trade disputes, . . . operates a system of trade rules ( Who We Are, 2016). The WTO is a
place where the governments of member countries try to sort out and develop problems that
countries may have with one another. Every so often a problem with trade takes place that requires
large amounts of negotiations before establishing new rules and policies. When large amounts of
negotiations are needed the WTO enters into a Round. Each round helps to set a new standard of
trade.
History of Round Sessions
The Doha Round is not the first round to take place. A total of eight rounds have taken place, with
the Doha Round currently taking place. Each round taking place with a different amount of
countries, for different lengths of time, and for different reasons. The first round took place in
Geneva, Switzerland in April of 1947 under GATT. At the first round in Geneva 23 countries meet
to approve the signing of GATT and 45,000 tariff concessions. The last completed round that took
place was the Uruguay Round. The Uruguay round took a little over 7 years to complete and saw
123 countries agreeing on the creation of the WTO and major reductions in agricultural subsidies

Taming Of Katherina In Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew
Material culture significantly impacts the taming of Katherina by Petruchio in William
Shakespeare s play, The Taming of the Shrew. Katherina begins the play constantly defending
herself against the insults of her society and matching wits with the men in her life. Because her
father and all potential suitors in Padua view her rebellious spirit as curst and shrewd, Petruchio
s wit and interest encourage her acceptance of his proposal (Shakespeare 1.1.179). However,
following a wedding in which her new husband arrives late to the ceremony, dresses poorly, and
forces her to leave the celebration early against her will, the formerly outspoken Katherina feels
embarrassment and a loss of dignity. Petruchio then builds on her insecurities and shock as he
takes Katherina to his taming school in their new home to teach her to hold her tongue and mind
her husband (Shakespeare 4.2.55). Petruchio accomplishes his plan while at the same time, by
withholding food, sleep, and clothing, he becomes a greater shrew and devilish character than
Katherina ever was before her taming process began. Petruchio s taming school is a place in
which Katherina receives training to become a wife who follows the social conventions of the
time which values quiet tongues and spirits in women. Petruchio compares Katherina to an
untrained falcon, who merely requires tough love to follow the directions of its master. He plans
to train her as a man would train a falcon to respond to his voice alone

Black Boy Character Analysis
Everybody, at one moment or another during their childhood, has wished to gain the
responsibilities of an adult. However, most kids are held back by the childish part of
themselves. They have to go through a coming of age cycle, that once completed, has matured
them and made them evolve from their old self. In Richard Wright s autobiography Black Boy,
we follow a young boy named Richard through his own journey to become a man, as we see him
struggle and overcome obstacles. The author uses the motifs of hunger, discrimination, and religion
to represent his quest and to emphasize on all the challenges life throws at him. Richard s life is
horribly scarred by the haunting ghost of hunger. During his stay at West Helena, once Aunt
Maggie has left with his new uncle, Richard and his family are left with no money to buy food. A

After the boy s visit to try and convince Richard to become religious, his family [begs him] so
continuously to come to God that it becomes impossible for him to ignore them without
wounding them. He desperately tries to think of some way to say no without making them hate
him (Wright 116). Religion represents the conflict that flares in his family. He is different from
them, and he wants to make them to understand that without hurting them. When Ella is caught
reading a book to Richard, his grandmother gets furious and tells Richard that books are the Devil
s work [...], [and that he is] going to burn in hell (Wright, 39). For the first time in his life,
Richard has tasted what was life to him, and is determined to get away from his family s
religious beliefs and get himself the life he wants. He realizes that they can t understand what he
is feeling. In this book, religion is used as a way to represent the tension in his family, and is used
to make Richard gain independence from his

There are many THINGS that later result in a bad economy. Employment is a cause Italy has

Rhetorical Analysis On Teenagers And Tattoos
Millennials Change Culture: A Rhetorical Analysis of On Teenagers and Tattoos Tattoos are usually
a mark or symbol that represents a hidden meaning or is simply a beautiful piece of art. In some
cases, people wait until they are older and more mature to get a tattoo, but recently, America s
teenage culture has been undergoing a massive change. Getting a tattoo at a young age now
represents individualism and uniqueness. A common question that adults have been asking is Why
would teenagers even get a tattoo at such a young and mature age? Andres Martin, a child
psychiatrist, dives into the mind of a millennial teenager in his article On Teenagers and Tattoos.
Martin highlights the recent change by mentioning that teens are progressively becoming more
individualistic and expressive. Andres Martin s overall rhetorical viewpoints were convincing, but
his connotations were confusing at certain points and his evidence was only based on small sample
sizes. In the article On Teenagers and Tattoos, Andres Martin says that Tattoos and piercings have
become a part of our everyday landscape (Andres Martin, 2000, p.143). Suggesting that it is very
common for teens to have piercings and tattoos. That tattoos can also help teenagers form their own
identities. Martin s first argument is that tattoos and piercings offer a solution to the identity crisis
that many teens face today. Since the typical teenage body changes so much, a tattoo is the one
thing that cannot change on the

Hoverboards In The Film Back To The Future
Hoverboards In the movie Back to the Future Part II, (1989), the main character, Marty McFly,
rides on a hoverboard in the year 2015. Now that the year that was considered the future in the
movie has come and gone, what progress has happened in the field of hoverboards? The answer
is quite a bit, although all of the modern versions fall short of the urban sports equipment featured
in the film. Here are the top five contenders for the title of hoverboard. Self balancing smart
scooter, the first product to be mass produced with the claim of being a hoverboard, is in fact not
much more than a Segway without the handle. This hoverboard does not actually hover but runs on
two wheels, utilizing a self balancing gyroscopic control system. A number of brand names are
competing for the lucrative market, despite having a bad reputation of starting on fire. ... Show more

Operating with an electromagnetic system this product actually hovers, but needs to be operated
on a conductive surface. Tony Hawk, the famous skateboarder endorses this hoverboard and is
said to have been directly involved in giving feedback to improve the second version. With its
limitations it is more likely that the Arx Pax hover engine will find other applications outside of
recreational use (Allain, 2015). Lexus, the car manufacturer has successfully created a hoverboard
to be featured in an advertisement, but does not intend to mass produce them. The board operates
on a system of superconductors cooled by liquid nitrogen, known as flux pinning. This process
requires a track of magnets and has no real world functionality (Allain, 2015). Omni, moves us
away from future replacements for skateboards and into the realm of flying platforms, Omni s
prototype is essentially a platform on a quadcopter drone. It flies, you stand on it and it looks fun
but, it would not be practical in an urban environment (Allain,

Shakespeare s Language in his Works Essay
Shakespeare s plays are full of references to what is now obscure classical myth, falconry,
astrology, or the theory of humors that were thought to determine personality within so many of
his characters (?S??Far?). Shakespeare wrote about themes and events we can relate to even
now nearly 500 years later. He wrote about us you and me, our friends, our families, the people
we work with and play with and argue with and go to bed with, the characters we see on the
evening news and elect to public office often times comparisons are often scary (Seder iii).
Shakespeare also liked to make fun of many of his characters. His plays show that he can be funny

He uses many terms that are unusual in our time as well as countless examples of figurative
language. Shakespeare uses blank verse, oxymorons, and strong vocabulary in order to give insight
and meaning to the written word.. Shakespeare uses blank verse throughout his entire play writing
time. Blank verse is a form of poetry in which lines have ten syllables, have five stresses, and no
rhyme scheme. ?The plays were mostly written in blank that is, unrhymed verse (except for
rhymed couplets, often used to close our scenes or sequences)? (?So Near and Yet So Far?). The
rhythm he used is iambic pentameter which is meter a type of pattern found in poetry. Iambic
pentameter is an unstressed sound followed by a stressed syllable. ?Blank verse was a common
dramatic vehicle at the time and for centuries later? it is still used it today(?So Near and Yet So
Far?). Shakespeare also introduced a new type of blank verse. Shakespeare often wrote his
sonnets in this same manner. One may find a rhyming couplet, but he mainly uses iambic
pentameter in every line of his poetry as well as his drama. Along with the sound or rhythm of the
play, Shakespeare?s vocabulary makes his plays more intriguing and very expressive. He
introduced thousands of words into our language. It is hard for people today to understand some of
the things Shakespeare said, because ?many words have fallen out of use, and in others the meaning
has migrated, often a considerable distance?

Assisted Suicide Is Not Common For All Areas Throughout...
Assisted Suicide
Imagine being diagnosed with a life ending disease and experiencing such excruciating pain that
doctors say cannot be healed. Pain is a terrible thing to experience, especially when it is permanent.
What can be done to relieve that pain? What if the only option to rid the pain from the patient is
death? No one knows how that feels until it happens to them, that is why assisted suicide is used.
Assisted suicide is a practice throughout most of the United States that terminates the lives of
dying patients. This process is when patients are in agonizing pain that is too overwhelming to
bear; therefore they beg physicians to end their lives. Physicians have the ability to end a patient s
life by withholding medication or removing the patient from a life supporting device. Patients have
to meet certain requirements before the procedure can be completed. Many people wish that this
practice was legal, but there are others that do not believe in it. Legalized physician assisted suicide
is not common in all areas throughout the United States. There are many different views about
physician assisted suicide, and the subject is a rather touchy one to discuss. There are many details
about this issue that many people are not informed about like the past situations dealing with
assisted suicide and physicians, areas that allow the procedure to be done, and the rules and
regulations that patients have to meet before anything can be done.

My Dream Of Becoming An Information Security Essay
As a child, I grew up enjoying mathematics and science; this led to my dream of becoming an
Information Security Analyst by majoring in Computer Engineering in college. I chose this
profession because over the past couple of years, the world has become more dependent on
technology, which means that there is more technology that needs to be developed and better
network securitywill need to be implanted to meet the progressing world s standards. By being in
this profession, there will always be job opportunities in small and large companies because
networks, computers, cell phones and many other gadgets are prone to being compromised. For
example, Boeing is a prestigious, global company that is one of the leading manufacturers of cyber
security that offers several internship and job opportunities to undergraduates and graduates. Future
graduates will be able to learn reliable information on what they need to become an information
securityanalyst because an intensive amount of time was taken to research and find credible sources.
Prior to graduating, future analysts will need to have knowledge of the profession and how they
will be able to become an information security analyst. Graduates should expect to plan and carry
out security measures to protect an organization s computer networks and systems in this
profession(United). Analysts also have duties such as monitoring the organization s networks for
security breaches, conduct investigations when breaches occur, install

Simon befriends an imaginary boy named Tomas and five other ghost children within the house.

result of disestablishment and, if that sense of unmaking is sudden and seems personal it hits
you around the heart then it lodges in the memory as a complete set (King 22). This personal
unmaking is what hits on the phobic pressure points for many people, including the loss of a
child and being haunted ( King 18). A phobic pressure point as King best describes it is a primal
instinctual fear that is widespread and works on a personal level. The loss of a child can be best
described as a primal instinctual fear, causing an immediate reaction from the mother when her
child is lost. The mother feels terror, fear, and panic over this loss that will supply the feelings of
disestablishment and disintegration. This fear connects the audience to Laura s character, since it
is widespread fear and phobic pressure point for many mothers to lose a

roll call and then the seating of alternates. There was then an approval of agenda items, a report
given by the town planner, reports from the board members, and then the board members opened
the floor to public comments, which none were given. Before the issues were addressed there was
a review of old minutes, and selection of a new secretary. Following the agenda items, the issues
were presented.
David Newhall, who is a perspective lot buyer, brought the first issue to attention, which was

Should Spaceflight Ever Be Commercialized In The Private...
Commercializing Spaceflight
Spaceflight has always been dominated by the public sector, which is controlled by the
government. Working for a government owned aerospace company and seeing the amount of
capital required to send an object into space, I have always wondered if spaceflight could ever be
commercialized in the private sector. The cost associated with spaceflighthas always been so
expensive and provided little monetary return on investment, that only the government could afford
to fund the research development, building, launching, and monitoring. This was primarily done
through NASA (National Aeronautics Space Administration), as they were one of the few who had

Cultural Diversity In The Last Runaway By Tracy Chevalier
In Class 1.2
1. As we discussed in class, Honor has a hard time adjusting to life in the US; we could say that she
is experiencing culture shock.
Culture shock always occurs to people who migrated from a native country into a new country.
In the novel, The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier, shows Honor the protagonist, an English
Quaker living in Bridgport, England, migrated to the US with her sister, Grace. As Grace was
supposed to engage with Adam Cox and had to join him in Ohio, Honor came with her to flee a
broken engagement. However, as Honor and Grace arrived in the US and stayed about few
weeks, Grace suffered an illness called, yellow fever and this illness killed her. As a result, Honor
faces new struggles in life, where she had to overcome by herself, adapt into the difficult lifestyle
in USA, and tell Adam about Grace s death. The novel shows how Honor sees the differences
between the US and England s nature, homes and food.
The first difference between the US and England is the nature (plants and animals). Honor felt
bewilderment in the US s nature, she never had seen a covered bridge, Thomas, an elderly man
offered Honor to take her with Adam, he notice how Honor bewilderment the nature in the US. The
bridges in her homeland were stone and humped. Also, Honor studied the trees, like the oak trees

Hot Tub Mystery Answers
Hot Tub Mystery Answers
Part I 1) The paramedics on the scene observed empty bottles of wine around the perimeter of the
hot tub. The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Underhill lie at the bottom of the tub which had a noticeably
above average temperature. The couple was determined to have been dead long before the
paramedics arrived. It was also mentioned that Mr. Underhill had taken Lasix before entering the
hot tub. 2) Based on these observations the investigators should ask the maid why the hot tub was
at an unsafe temperature. Other areas of concern include the medication Mr. Underhill was on,
what time the maid got home, and how long the Underhill s had been dead upon arrival. 3) The

Part II 1) I believe that the Underhill s died prior to them going under the water. I assume the
couple s death was due to dehydration caused by the high water temperature and further affected
by the consumption of alcohol. Alcohol potentially effected the couples decision making causing
them to increase their level of dehydration by staying in the hot tub longer than prescribed. 2)
Under the effects of Lasix Mr. Underhill s body was prevented from absorbing to much salt, which
instead was directed straight to the urine quickening the process of dehydration in the body. 3)
Blood alcohol content is the concentration of alcohol in one s bloodstream. Blood alcohol

effects of alcohol on the brain are blurred vision, weakened motor skills, blurred vision, slurred
speech, slowed reaction times and impaired memory. In the liver alcohol causes fat deposits to
develop in the liver and cause inflammation even eventually liver disease. Similarly, in the
pancreas prolonged use can cause inflammation which yields vomiting, fever, weight loss, and is
potentially fatal. Lastly, in the kidneys alcohol can increase the risk of high blood pressure

Spanish American War Causes
On April 1898, The United States declared war against Spain, an empire that was over 400 years
old (GLEIJESES, 2003, p 681) Many factors contributed to the Spanish American War, but in my
opinion, no single event is to blame for this war. Although many credit the destruction of the
warship Maine as the primary cause for this war it is important to mention several previous events
that led to a gradual accumulation of a war spirit in American society. Because of the U.S.
intervention in Cuba and winning the war, America became a superpower nation that owned a
modern NAVY resembling the UK and France. The primary cause that led to the Spanish American
War was the public viewpoint towards Spain and the attitudes toward the Cuban revolution that
started in 1895 ( Spanish American War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic
Division, Library of Congress), 2011). American citizens sympathized with the Cuban revolt against
the medieval Spanish oppressor. The Cuban rebels considered that if they sabotaged the sugar fields

Global Expansion During 1890 U.S. foreign policy was heavily influenced by Alfred T. Mahan
who wrote The Influence of Sea Power upon history, 1600 1783, which advocated the taking of
the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, and the Philippine Islands to establish Naval bases to protect
both U.S. shores. More importantly, Mahan also promoted the building of a canal to enable fleet
movement from ocean to ocean which later led to the construction of the Panama Canal (
Spanish American War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division,

The judgment of the intentions or motives is generally based on the judgment of the actions of the
individual and what he/she may potentially do. A study done by Van Vugt, Asscher, Stams,
Hendriks, Bijleveld and van der Laan (2011) examined the differences in the moral judgments of
young sex offenders with and without intellectual disabilities who had a history of sexual
offending. It was found in a previous study by Van Vugt, Stams, Dekovic, Brugman, Rutten and
Hendriks (2008) that immature moral judgment strongly related to delinquent behaviour. It was
considered that individuals with intellectual disabilities may be at an increased risk for offending
behaviours as their cognitive impairments could be problematic in the development of moral
judgment. Van Vugt et al., (2008) had found that moral judgment is in fact an important risk factor
for offending and reoffending behaviours in adolescent and adult offenders. This study used the
Sociomoral Reflection Measure Short Form (SRM SF) to assess the moral judgment with an
extension to questions that referred to general sexual situations and to the offenders victims. The
expectation was that the young sex offenders with intellectual disability would show low moral
judgments in all of the three moral judgment situations: general life, sexual and own abuse victim

To His Coy Mistress And To The Virgins
Carpe diem is when the author makes the reader understand that they are trying to tell them to
live to their fullest. In both To His Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time the
author mentions how they should live like it s their last day and to make the best out of it. Also
beauty takes a big role in both poems and how one day it will fade, so for them to take advantage
of it now before it fades. In To His Coy Mistress it s about a guy trying to conquer the loveof a
mistress. He tells her how much time he will wait for her and his love will endure forever as
long as she is with him. Later the tone changes and it s when carpe diem takes place. He starts to
say that they don t have all the time in the world and that one day all this will end. He points out
that beauty one day will end and that she should take the advantage of being with him now that
she is young and beautiful and not waiting till she s old and wrinkly. Also he mentions her
virginity and says that she should have sexual intercourse before she dies because if she dies as
a virgin it s the same thing as doing it while being alive because worms will still get inside her
and eat all her remains. He wants to be with her, and would ve waited a long time to get what he

The Giver s Flowers For Algernon
A central theme in Flowers For Algernon is that you don t have to change who you are to fit in

people think about. Fancy things I suppose. I wish I knew some fancy things alredy (Keyes 225

about fancy things, such as smart people do. Also, in the text Charlie stated I said I asked pepul

All you need is bravery and determination. The theme from The Giver and the the theme from
Flowers for Algernon can have an impact on anyone s life but mostly teens. For kids and teens all
around the world, fitting in is one of the hardest things to do. People think that they need to
change themselves to fit in. Girls think they need to wear makeup to look pretty. Guys think
they need to be masculine. Everyone around the world is pressured by society to be someone
they re not. Lots of people say that society has killed the teenager . To me that quote means that
society gives us these certain images that we are supposed to strive for. For example, skinny,
tall, perfect teeth, no acne, etc. As teens we are at the age of wanting to fit in and be better but
society is ruining how we view ourselves and the ways we think. Also another thing is to just be
yourself. If you be yourself, the right people will come to you. For example, let s say someone
starts to wear makeup because her friends are wearing it, or someone said that she was ugly
without it. She ll start to become a person she doesn t want to be. She ll start to become
influenced by her friends and the people around her. Then she ll stop wearing it one day and
then she ll continue to stop wearing it for a while. She might get hatred, compliments on her
natural beauty, or her friends won t even care. See what she did? She stopped pretending to be a
character in a movie, and started being herself. All she needed was bravery and determination.
As you can see, the themes in Flowers For Algernon and in The Giver relate to the real life we are
facing today. If personally myself could say something to kids and teens, I would say to just be
yourself and don t change who you are. The right people will come to you if you are brave and

solve the problem and have a successful result. Think twice before you act.
Understanding Evolutionary Psychology
Evolutionary psychology is simply psychology that is informed by the additional knowledge that
evolutionary biology has offer, in the expectation the understanding the process that designed the

because since then we ve come a long way. Genes have been passed on to the next generation and

Positives And Negatives Of Sorority

Roma Stereotypes
While reading and listening to the interview I learned a ton form Isabel Fonseca. I always knew
there was a stereotype placed on the Roma/gypsy societies, I had no clue how segregated they
still are today. The Roma people are treated very poorly in the majority of Europe, because they

they wont ever be able to better them self s and blend better into society. Roma society s deal with
stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination which I am going to discuss in this paper. First the
Roma society s deal with people stereotyping them into one lump. People see them as uneducated,
but partially we are to blame because we wont allow them to merge into our society. Due to them
being uneducated they live in poverty. Gypsies are stereotyped as being poor, due to this we treat
them poorly regardless if we know if they are poor or not. Last we also treat them differently and
define them by the way they dress. But by us stereotyping them we are taking away their
opportunities to better themselves. Second the Roma society s deal with prejudice everyday. For

Dulce et Decorum est, by Wilfred Owen. Essay
Dulce et Decorum est, by Wilfred Owen.
The First World War was an event that brought to many people, pain, sorrow and bitterness.
Accounts of the war shows that no other war challenged existing conventions, morals and ideals in
the same way as did World War. Many people touched by the terrror of the war have written pieces
of literature about the massacre that was World War 1, wishing people to understand the horror and
tragedy that befell those involved. Dulce et Decorum est , by Wilfred Owen, is one such elegy that
presents to the reader a vivid, horrifying description of World
War 1, aiming to illustrate that war is not romantic and heroic, but a senseless and devastating
event. In this poem, techniques such as

the reader the suffering they had to endure and the hardships that they had to face. This is backed
up by the description that men marched asleep . This description of the soldiers, of how they

The Nature of Death in Emily Dickinson s Poems Essay
Emily Dickinson once said, Dying is a wild night and a new road. Some people welcome death
with open arms while others cower in fear when confronted in the arms of death. Through the use
of ambiguity, metaphors, personification and paradoxes Emily Dickinson still gives readers a

Dickinson s poems provide that secret gateway to the supernatural that Ferlazzo is referring to.
In the poem I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, Emily Dickinson uses symbolism to convey some sort
of mental funeral that the speaker is experiencing. The funeral image that Dickinson depicts in
the first line of the poem: I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, does not literally represent a funeral, but it
is used to symbolism a mental breakdown and agony that the speaker is going through. By using
this symbolism, the speaker is imagining the death of old ways of thought. Dickinson writes that
when the funeral service was like a Drum (Dickinson 43) and that it Kept beating beating till I
thought My Mind was going numb (43), leaving readers believing that the speaker is going mad.
By depicting this image, Dickinson reveals that with the death of old thought; there is some sort of
numbness or pain that is necessary to progress to a better state (Goldfarb 2). By repeating the
beating sound two times, along with the rhyming sequence in the previous lines of the poem,
Dickinson is stressing the numbness and the importance of it.
Dickinson uses ambiguity to stress the difficulty of knowing and understanding certain
experiences and thoughts to the reader. By being deliberately elusive, Dickinson makes the
speaker out to be some sort of hero. In a critical essay of I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, Sheldon

Ursula Le Guin draws in many readers though her creation of fantasy worlds and characters that

immune systems are compromised. K. pneumoniae can cause nosocomial urinary tract infections
and pneumonia. In immunocompromised patients, death is possible (Klebsiella). For a person

A Research Project On The The Wong One Died
Life is simultaneously the hardest thing we will ever do and also the easiest thing we will ever do.
From the basic biological processes to the complex mental processes, all that we as humans do
contributes to our lives. In the story The Wong One Died (Yalom, 2012), we learned about Penny, a
woman who is experiencing great difficulty simply living her life. Yalom moves quickly to the heart
of the matter, primarily by building a therapeutic relationship, developing an accurate empathic
understanding, and using that understanding to help Penny. The therapeutic relationship is
fundamental to the therapeutic process, and Yalom provides an excellent example of what is
required of the helper in this story.

He does not deny that Penny could use help, or that he could certainly offer it, but he recognizes
his limitations and his commitments that would interfere with his ability to properly help Penny. I
think that this shows an important level of self awareness on the part of Yalom, and gives what
work he does with Penny its best chance at succeeding. While acknowledging she understands
Yalom s limitations, Penny mentions she had seen two therapists previously. One of them had
been at an alcohol clinic, where the counselor had been an alcoholic themselves. Penny remarks
that perhaps she need a therapist who has lost a child that could be an expert in what Penny is
experiencing. However, if it is true that a client can only be helped by someone who has
experienced the same things as themselves, then that places a severe limitation on the field of
psychology. Therapists could only help clients with similar experiences to themselves, which would
bring the focus of therapy to the therapist s subjective experience, and not the client s. Each
therapist would only have a narrow range of clients with which they could be effective, which I
do not believe to be the case. Yalom s work with Penny can serve of an example of two people
with different experiences forming a constructive therapeutic relationship. On the surface, there
would seem to be few similarities between a Stanford professor and an overworked cab driver, but
both Penny

Sequence Matching And Pattern Matching
INTRODUCTION : Pattern matching is a programming language method which is considered as
important in functional programming. It is uses STRING MATCHING and PATTERN
RECOGNITION. The main job of pattern matching is to check and decompose data. The object
oriented programming languages do not have any particular method for this decomposition of data.
So the Object oriented programmers are in need for a solutions for this problem of decomposition
.For that problem as a solution a built in pattern matching construct is introduced which is
compatible with object oriented programmingis proposed. And the data is to be defined separately
for the operation on data to make matching useful. Pattern matching is presented in two ways,...

If the given input pattern matches , the pattern variables are bound to corresponding parts in the

Object oriented design is a method and style for software system development that amounts to
encapsulating data and operations in abstractions. This method produces some abstractions that are
usually implemented in an object oriented programming language, which supports the object
oriented style through its syntax and semantics. It does so by providing an object model and by
offering built in methods for object construction, method calls, field access and deletion of objects.
Classifying abstractions and taking them apart into their subcomponents is not a built in construct
of object oriented programming languages.
Pattern matching will offer: Not only Readability and security, a high level method for pattern
matching provides optimization and static checks. The disadvantage of object oriented solutions
which are mentioned above is that the standard compilers can not check hand written case

The Worst Computer Crime Of Children
Within the blink of an eye, technology has changed the entire face of humanity forever, and it is
seen no greater than in the current era of social media, streaming content, smartphone usage in
billions of people, and most importantly, the internet. In the span of two decades, it has become the
dominant force for everything within our lives: professional, commercial, personal and even
criminal. This was to be expected, for a tool that has the power to transmit information, video and

However, the rise of the internet allowed for a new way for child pornography to flourish, with
simple websites being distributed to those who could see it from the safety of their own homes.
However, as the law matured and came to battle this, new ways to distribute the pornography
were also invented, a tit for tat war that always had each side claiming victories and losses.
Though, now it seems that newest feature on the internet to allow for child pornography to be
distributed easily is the Deep Web. This is a part of the World Wide Webthat is not discoverable by
means of standard search engines, including password protected or dynamic pages and encrypted
networks. It was created by the US government and has legitimate and useful purposes, including
journalistic freedom in repressed nations, activists on freedom of speech and the leaking of
secrets that are having an adverse effect on others. However, the anonymity presented by the Deep
Web and it s search engine, TOR (The Onion Router), has allowed for criminal means to occur
with perhaps millions of users across the world being undetected. Naturally, the argument for this
paper is not if we should be allowing this, but how strong we should be going against this. As such,
the evidence will be given that total war should be taken against these networks, to flush out the
pedophiles on these sites, take them down permanently and arrest the individuals who both create
this smut and view it. As shown by Elise

Sociological Concepts In The Film American Sniper
The film American Sniper portrays the life of a US Navy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle who was
deployed to Iraq after the events of 9/11. The movie shows the life of Kyle before his deployment
to Iraq. He was a Texan rodeo cowboy who later joined the military after watching a news film of an
attack on a US embassy. After passing his BUD/s as a S.E.A.L., he meets Taya at a bar who later
becomes his wife. After the attack on the World Trade Center, Kyle s team is deployed to Iraq
and is
assigned to take out Al Qaeda forces. During Kyle s deployment, he faced challenging moments
where both himself and his comrades were in danger. His duty as a sniper was to take out
hostile people who were a threat to the Marines, even children. Kyle then begins to develop a
case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, though he is unwillingly to accept it. His wife Taya
begins to worry for him because of his slow inability to assimilate back into civilian life. After
completing his four tours in Iraq, he retires from the military and returns home as well as helping
other veterans with PTSD. However, Kyle was later killed by a veteran whom he tried to help.
Throughout the film, many sociological concepts were seen in the movie. Symbolic interactionism,
values, mores, coercion, gender socialization, and total institutions were apparent in the film.
Symbolic interactionism is defined as a theoretical perspective in which society is viewed as
composed of symbols that people use to establish meaning,

Meditation has been a prominent aspect in our culture since the beginning of humanity. It

Roman Polanski s Film, The Pianist
Roman Polanski s film The Pianist follows the journey of a Polish Jew named Wladyslaw
Szpilman. Szpilman is a pianist who was playing for a Warsaw radio station when the first
German bombs fell. Once World War ll begins Szpilman and his family are forced to live in the
Warsaw ghetto, but he is later separated from them. At this time Warsaw is surrounded with German
soldiers and from this time up until the concentration camp prisoners are released. Hiding in
abandoned, run down building Szpilman struggles to survive. While in hiding a German officer
Captain Wilm Hosenfeldtells Szpilman to play the piano. The director Roman Polanski intelligently

Lighting paired with the overall colour scheme leads the viewers to believe that something not
so good may occur soon. Sure enough, this is the scene when the first German bombs are
dropped in Warsaw 1939. From here on up until the turning point of the film the lighting is very
dark. I think that this is very important, as Polanski has done this in order to exaggerate and
evoke emotion within the audience. Another symbolic scene is when Szpilman is hiding in an
old abandon building he is approached by a German officer called Wilm Hosenfeld. Hosenfeld
orders Szpilman to play the piano, and at this time Hosenfeld s appearance is strong as we see in
a close up of Hosenfeld. The room is dark with grey lighting and Szpilman is thin, wearing frayed
dark clothing, he has blended in with the lighting and background. But as Szpilman begins to play
the piano, a veil of light shines on him. The veil of light then shifts onto Szpilman which portrays
him metaphorically as an angel, conveying that he is in a position of power, rather than Hosenfeld,
who previously was. This scene in particular with the light on Szpilman is a significant point in the
film because it is the turning point. Szpilman is weak, thin and the lighting leading up to this scene
is dark, then after this scene the lighting begins to brighten as well as Szpilman s life. Although we,
the audience do not think much of the lighting

Examples Of Spousal Betrayal In Half Of A Yellow Sun
Spousal betrayal
According to the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary to betray means to hurt somebody who

feminist weapon to charter such denigrating and degrading treatments meted out to women by
their lover. Olanna has reached her goal because Odenigbo is upset and frustrated at hearing her
love affair with Richard. He is obliged to forgive her the way she did to him. Adichie puts
Odenigbo in the same condition he has put Olanna in to show that men through patriarchy
should stop ill treating women and that like men women have a conscience, feelings and a soul.
The situation reminds me of a custom in Things Fall Apart where the woman should say
publicly how many men have slept with her since her fiancГ© has first expressed the desire to
marry her (TFA ; 11). Nobody asks such a question to men simply because patriarchy has made
people believe that men are superior to women and should not be controlled. Adichie by making

Scientific Management Theory Paper
In organizational world, the management and organizational theory plays an important part in the
operations of business, companies and administrations. An organization consists of two or more
persons in a systematic effort to produce goods or services. Thus, an organization needs a
management to achieve the organizational goals through some managerial process which is an
ongoing activity. Therefore, in every organization has a manager that plays important roles as
systematic planner. According to Cleslinska (2007), managers need a knowledge base and

Discipline And Punish By Michel Foucault
In the article, Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault, he describes a social theory called
panopticism. In Foucault s panopticism he talks about the panopticon, an architectural plan that
was created by Jeremy Bentham. The Prison structure of the twenty first century uses that same
building design as the panopticon. We see how the plague town in the Panopticism shows a chain of
authority. Prisons in the twenty first century use the same style of chain of authority in their
correctional institutes. The panopticon brings out a lot of mental effect to the prisoners when they
are sent into the cell. Prisoners in today s society society go through the same mental effects of
inmates in the Panopticon. The ideas of panopticism are relevant to the development of the twenty
first century through building structure, a chain of authority command, guard surveillance, and
mental effects that prisoners go through.
Foucault uses Bentham s panopticon, a design for a model prison, as a symbol for disciple methods
that operates through a variety of ideas. The Panopticon was architectural design that has cells in a
circular structure with a central watchtower that was above the cells. In the article Foucault and
the Architecture of Surveillance: Creating Regimes of Power in Schools, Shrines, and Society by
Joseph Piro he states , The Panopticon is a prison that is built radially, so that one guard positioned
in its center can view all prisoners. Foucault mapped out the origins of the

The Life You Save May Be Your Own Short Story Analysis
What brings you true joy? Is it family and friends, a religion, or some material item? In the short
story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor gives examples of what can
bring Tom Shiftlet joy and what he chooses instead. A tramp, Shiftlet, wanders to the Crater
house in search of a job. Mrs. Crater knows her farm needs a good fixing, so she allows Shiftlet
to sleep in the car and will feed him if he fixes things at the house. Mrs. Crater tries to pawn her
daughter, Lucynell, off on Shiftlet. Mrs Crater offers the car Mr. Shiftlet fixed, a place to live, and
$17.50 just to marry Lucynell. Shiftlet finally agrees and accepts the bribe. On their honeymoon,
Shiftlet leaves Lucynell at a diner and moves forward with his new car. A major theme that O
Connor repeated throughout her short storywas how many things can block your vision of what
truly matters in life. O Connor reflects in all of her writings that God, and his gifts, are the things
that can bring everlasting joy. She knows that there are always roadblocks in the way, though.
Throughout the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor uses
literary elements of symbolism, characterization, and naturalism to develop her theme of finding
what truly matters in life. Symbols within a story can help to represent greater meaning out of
one piece of work. Flannery develops symbolism through the car and through Shiftlet. Shiftlet is
compared to Christ the savior many times, but then later reveals himself to be more of an anti
Christ. O Connor describes Shiftlet as a wanderer who, swung both his whole and his short arm
slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross (O Connor
675). This is the first time that Flannery compares Shiftlet to JesusChrist by forming a cross. The
cross is very symbolic towards Jesus because that is how God shows his love to all mankind.
Shiftlet only has one arm, though, which shows that if he were to be compared to Jesus, he
would be a flawed Christ. Not only does the crooked cross symbolize a flawed Christ, but also
foreshadows that Shiftlet may tend to show a flaw or even deny God s compassion. The car that
Shiftlet voluntarily fixes is also a

Examples Of Dualism In Snow Falling On Cedars

about the power of the media, and the effect that it has on our lives. Like many things people

It can be inferred from the title that this cartoon is set in America, similar to the novel s setting.
Like Guterson s use of duality, the cartoon clearly contrasts the different social experiences
between races by posing the same scenario. In both frames respectively, a White and African
American child propose the same statement, I m goin out mom! . However, the difference
between frames is the response by the assumed mother. The view pertaining to the white child
dictates a simple answer, put on your jacket , whereas the African American view dictates the
response in the first frame as well as measures to prevent the attention of authorities. Clearly,
Sargent s use of text implies that the African American youth population experience a harsher life
due to prejudice. This is demonstrated by just a fraction of the instructions the African American
child is given, don t make any sudden moves and keep your mouth shut around police . This
scenario of race and cultural difference is undeniably relatable to the American and Japanese
populations of Snow Falling on Cedars . Within the novel, after the attack on pearl harbour, Fujiko
huddles her daughters and delivers a line similar to that of assumed African American mother in the
cartoon, We bend our head, we bow and are silent, because we understand that by ourselves, alone,
we are nothing

  • 2. Economies Of Scale And Scope Economies of Scope: Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of output at lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of scale where production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the barriers to entry for new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher cost of production. Why? Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford to sell the product at the same price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and scope positively affect General Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity to offer products and services through the same organization. These products might be highly unalike but due to the wide range of businesses covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in order to continue a healthy relationship with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar purchase of its jet engines to be financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance opportunities are usually done via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has pursued a service strategy when it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by the hour this enables the private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would award GE with maintenance contracts on the engines. This ... • 3. Social Reaction Theory And Feminist Theory Of Crimes Social Reaction Theory and Feminist Theory of Crimes are the subject theories I am going to review, examine, and explain. I will be discussing the evolution of social reaction and labeling theory, which is mainly concerned with how individuals personal identities are highly influenced by the way that society has a tendency to classify them as offenders. I will also be reviewing the various forms of feminist theories, which began as reactions to the lack of reasonable theorizing about why females commit crimeand why the tend to be treated far more contradictorily by the criminal justice system. Here, I will explain these various theories with more attention on how they thoroughly transformed the way that the crime and law were viewed. Both theories had become popular in the 1960 s and the 1970 s due to the society looking for theories that fixed the blame for criminal offending on government authorities. These theories also both share a common theme, by accentuating the use of the criminal justice system to target or label certain types of groups such as lower class, minorities, and women, as criminals while protecting the ones with power such as white males. Theoretical Background: Social reaction theory is also referred to as labeling theory, which is mainly classified by how personal identities are influenced by the way authority categorizes the offenders. The labeling results in individuals authenticating their place as criminals by developing the seriousness of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Surfboarding Imagine you are at the beach. You are laying down a towel and setting up an umbrella when something catches your eye. Out in the ocean you see a surfer catching some waves, and it looks so fun and exciting that you almost grab a board and join in. However you don t know how to surf and would rather not embarrass yourself in front of all these beach goers. Surfing, however, isn t complicated at all and can be accomplished in these simple steps. Firstly, you need to get the proper equipment. You will, of course, need a surfboard. The fun board, as well as the foam board, is recommended for beginners. They are easy to balance and turn on. After you have your board, you need to get a leash. It is an essential equipment to have because it makes sure your board does not float away. Surfboard wax is also important because it keeps you from slipping off your board, so make sure to get it. Now that you have gathered all the materials, it is time to prepare yourself. To prepare, you can do yoga. Yoga will help you gain upper body strength allowing you to paddle and pop up on your board faster. Besides yoga, you also need to practice your balance. Spending some time on a wakeboard or skateboard will help. After you practice this, you need to find your stance on the surfboard. To do this, get a skateboard or a surfboard, and stand parallel to it. If you are using a surfboard, put something under it to keep the fins off the ground. • 5. Misconceptions About Vaccines Vaccines are largely debated within today s world. There isn t much debate within the medical community, but there is debate between the medical community and the general public. There are some people in the public who have certain misconceptions about vaccines, a couple being that vaccines cause autism or autoimmune disorders. However, these claims have been studied extensively, and there is no scientific evidence backing these claims. These misconceptions claim that the vaccines affect the lymphatic, circulatory, and the immune system. The lymphatic system is the system of vessels, cells, and organs that carries excess fluids to the bloodstream and filters pathogens from the blood(OpenStax, 2017). The main function of the lymphatic system... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main function of the circulatory system is to keep blood pumping throughout the body, pumping, on average, 5 liters a minute. Along with pumping blood, the heart pumps waste, nutrients, and oxygen to other organs. Each artery and vein has a specific function, carrying blood to and from different parts of the body. The carotid arteries, both external and internal supply blood to the head. The celiac artery supplies the majority of blood to the trunk, and it is the only artery which allows the organs it supplies to receive an adequate blood supply. The subclavian arteries are the main arteries of the upper extremities, but eventually branch off into the axilla, where they fittingly become known as the axillary arteries. Finally, the second largest artery of the body, the femoral artery, is the main blood supplier to the lower limbs. The two main veins of the body are the inferior and superior vena cava. The superior vena cava returns blood to the right atrium from the upper half of the body. The inferior vena cava does the opposite, carrying blood from the lower half of the body also to the right atrium. The blood vessels of the circulatory system and the organs of the lymphatic system work in conjunction in order to maintain homeostasis. The lymphatic system is able to carry excess fluids to the blood stream, while also filtering pathogens from the blood. 20 liters of plasma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Taming Of Katherina In Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew Material culture significantly impacts the taming of Katherina by Petruchio in William Shakespeare s play, The Taming of the Shrew. Katherina begins the play constantly defending herself against the insults of her society and matching wits with the men in her life. Because her father and all potential suitors in Padua view her rebellious spirit as curst and shrewd, Petruchio s wit and interest encourage her acceptance of his proposal (Shakespeare 1.1.179). However, following a wedding in which her new husband arrives late to the ceremony, dresses poorly, and forces her to leave the celebration early against her will, the formerly outspoken Katherina feels embarrassment and a loss of dignity. Petruchio then builds on her insecurities and shock as he takes Katherina to his taming school in their new home to teach her to hold her tongue and mind her husband (Shakespeare 4.2.55). Petruchio accomplishes his plan while at the same time, by withholding food, sleep, and clothing, he becomes a greater shrew and devilish character than Katherina ever was before her taming process began. Petruchio s taming school is a place in which Katherina receives training to become a wife who follows the social conventions of the time which values quiet tongues and spirits in women. Petruchio compares Katherina to an untrained falcon, who merely requires tough love to follow the directions of its master. He plans to train her as a man would train a falcon to respond to his voice alone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Black Boy Character Analysis Everybody, at one moment or another during their childhood, has wished to gain the responsibilities of an adult. However, most kids are held back by the childish part of themselves. They have to go through a coming of age cycle, that once completed, has matured them and made them evolve from their old self. In Richard Wright s autobiography Black Boy, we follow a young boy named Richard through his own journey to become a man, as we see him struggle and overcome obstacles. The author uses the motifs of hunger, discrimination, and religion to represent his quest and to emphasize on all the challenges life throws at him. Richard s life is horribly scarred by the haunting ghost of hunger. After the boy s visit to try and convince Richard to become religious, his family [begs him] so continuously to come to God that it becomes impossible for him to ignore them without wounding them. He desperately tries to think of some way to say no without making them hate him (Wright 116). Religion represents the conflict that flares in his family. He is different from them, and he wants to make them to understand that without hurting them. When Ella is caught reading a book to Richard, his grandmother gets furious and tells Richard that books are the Devil s work [...], [and that he is] going to burn in hell (Wright, 39). For the first time in his life, Richard has tasted what was life to him, and is determined to get away from his family s religious beliefs and get himself the life he wants. • 10. Rhetorical Analysis On Teenagers And Tattoos Millennials Change Culture: A Rhetorical Analysis of On Teenagers and Tattoos Tattoos are usually a mark or symbol that represents a hidden meaning or is simply a beautiful piece of art. In some cases, people wait until they are older and more mature to get a tattoo, but recently, America s teenage culture has been undergoing a massive change. Getting a tattoo at a young age now represents individualism and uniqueness. A common question that adults have been asking is Why would teenagers even get a tattoo at such a young and mature age? Andres Martin, a child psychiatrist, dives into the mind of a millennial teenager in his article On Teenagers and Tattoos. Martin highlights the recent change by mentioning that teens are progressively becoming more individualistic and expressive. Andres Martin s overall rhetorical viewpoints were convincing, but his connotations were confusing at certain points and his evidence was only based on small sample sizes. In the article On Teenagers and Tattoos, Andres Martin says that Tattoos and piercings have become a part of our everyday landscape (Andres Martin, 2000, p.143). Suggesting that it is very common for teens to have piercings and tattoos. That tattoos can also help teenagers form their own identities. Martin s first argument is that tattoos and piercings offer a solution to the identity crisis that many teens face today. Now that the year that was considered the future in the movie has come and gone, what progress has happened in the field of hoverboards? The answer is quite a bit, although all of the modern versions fall short of the urban sports equipment featured in the film. Here are the top five contenders for the title of hoverboard. Self balancing smart scooter, the first product to be mass produced with the claim of being a hoverboard, is in fact not much more than a Segway without the handle. This hoverboard does not actually hover but runs on two wheels, utilizing a self balancing gyroscopic control system. Tony Hawk, the famous skateboarder endorses this hoverboard and is said to have been directly involved in giving feedback to improve the second version. With its limitations it is more likely that the Arx Pax hover engine will find other applications outside of recreational use (Allain, 2015). Lexus, the car manufacturer has successfully created a hoverboard to be featured in an advertisement, but does not intend to mass produce them. The board operates on a system of superconductors cooled by liquid nitrogen, known as flux pinning. This process requires a track of magnets and has no real world functionality (Allain, 2015). Shakespeare s Language in his Works Essay Shakespeare s plays are full of references to what is now obscure classical myth, falconry, astrology, or the theory of humors that were thought to determine personality within so many of his characters (?S??Far?). Shakespeare wrote about themes and events we can relate to even now nearly 500 years later. He wrote about us you and me, our friends, our families, the people we work with and play with and argue with and go to bed with, the characters we see on the evening news and elect to public office often times comparisons are often scary (Seder iii). Shakespeare uses blank verse, oxymorons, and strong vocabulary in order to give insight and meaning to the written word.. Shakespeare uses blank verse throughout his entire play writing time. Blank verse is a form of poetry in which lines have ten syllables, have five stresses, and no rhyme scheme. ?The plays were mostly written in blank that is, unrhymed verse (except for rhymed couplets, often used to close our scenes or sequences)? (?So Near and Yet So Far?). The rhythm he used is iambic pentameter which is meter a type of pattern found in poetry. Shakespeare also introduced a new type of blank verse. Shakespeare often wrote his sonnets in this same manner. One may find a rhyming couplet, but he mainly uses iambic pentameter in every line of his poetry as well as his drama. Along with the sound or rhythm of the play, Shakespeare?s vocabulary makes his plays more intriguing and very expressive. He introduced thousands of words into our language. Assisted Suicide Imagine being diagnosed with a life ending disease and experiencing such excruciating pain that doctors say cannot be healed. Pain is a terrible thing to experience, especially when it is permanent. What can be done to relieve that pain? What if the only option to rid the pain from the patient is death? No one knows how that feels until it happens to them, that is why assisted suicide is used. Assisted suicide is a practice throughout most of the United States that terminates the lives of dying patients. This process is when patients are in agonizing pain that is too overwhelming to bear; therefore they beg physicians to end their lives. Physicians have the ability to end a patient s life by withholding medication or removing the patient from a life supporting device. Patients have to meet certain requirements before the procedure can be completed. Many people wish that this practice was legal, but there are others that do not believe in it. Legalized physician assisted suicide is not common in all areas throughout the United States. There are many different views about physician assisted suicide, and the subject is a rather touchy one to discuss. Spanish American War Causes On April 1898, The United States declared war against Spain, an empire that was over 400 years old (GLEIJESES, 2003, p 681) Many factors contributed to the Spanish American War, but in my opinion, no single event is to blame for this war. Although many credit the destruction of the warship Maine as the primary cause for this war it is important to mention several previous events that led to a gradual accumulation of a war spirit in American society. Because of the U.S. intervention in Cuba and winning the war, America became a superpower nation that owned a modern NAVY resembling the UK and France. The primary cause that led to the Spanish American War was the public viewpoint towards Spain and the attitudes toward the Cuban revolution that started in 1895 ( Spanish American War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division, Library of Congress), 2011). I always knew there was a stereotype placed on the Roma/gypsy societies, I had no clue how segregated they still are today. The Roma people are treated very poorly in the majority of Europe, because they are uneducated and different. But by segregating the Roma and not allowing them in our schools they wont ever be able to better them self s and blend better into society. Roma society s deal with stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination which I am going to discuss in this paper. First the Roma society s deal with people stereotyping them into one lump. People see them as uneducated, but partially we are to blame because we wont allow them to merge into our society. Due to them being uneducated they live in poverty. Gypsies are stereotyped as being poor, due to this we treat them poorly regardless if we know if they are poor or not. Last we also treat them differently and define them by the way they dress. Accounts of the war shows that no other war challenged existing conventions, morals and ideals in the same way as did World War. Many people touched by the terrror of the war have written pieces of literature about the massacre that was World War 1, wishing people to understand the horror and tragedy that befell those involved. Dulce et Decorum est , by Wilfred Owen, is one such elegy that presents to the reader a vivid, horrifying description of World War 1, aiming to illustrate that war is not romantic and heroic, but a senseless and devastating event. This description of the soldiers, of how they limped on, blood shod gives the reader an impression that they can no longer comprehend what is going on around them, that they are blind and deaf to the world. Metaphors are used to illustrate more vividly the descriptions used in the poem. This is evident in the description of the soldiers as old beggars under sacks . This not only says that they are tired, but that they are so tired they have been brought down to the level of beggars who have not slept in a bed for weeks on end. In the description his hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin Owen compares the gas victim s face to the devil seeming corrupted and baneful. A metaphor even more effective is one that compares ...vile, incurable sores... with the memories of the troops. Dickinson s poems provide that secret gateway to the supernatural that Ferlazzo is referring to. In the poem I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, Emily Dickinson uses symbolism to convey some sort of mental funeral that the speaker is experiencing. The funeral image that Dickinson depicts in the first line of the poem: I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, does not literally represent a funeral, but it is used to symbolism a mental breakdown and agony that the speaker is going through. By using this symbolism, the speaker is imagining the death of old ways of thought. Dickinson writes that when the funeral service was like a Drum (Dickinson 43) and that it Kept beating beating till I thought My Mind was going numb (43), leaving readers believing that the speaker is going mad. By depicting this image, Dickinson reveals that with the death of old thought; there is some sort of numbness or pain that is necessary to progress to a better state (Goldfarb 2). By repeating the beating sound two times, along with the rhyming sequence in the previous lines of the poem, Dickinson is stressing the numbness and the importance of it. While acknowledging she understands Yalom s limitations, Penny mentions she had seen two therapists previously. One of them had been at an alcohol clinic, where the counselor had been an alcoholic themselves. Penny remarks that perhaps she need a therapist who has lost a child that could be an expert in what Penny is experiencing. However, if it is true that a client can only be helped by someone who has experienced the same things as themselves, then that places a severe limitation on the field of psychology. Therapists could only help clients with similar experiences to themselves, which would bring the focus of therapy to the therapist s subjective experience, and not the client s. Each therapist would only have a narrow range of clients with which they could be effective, which I do not believe to be the case. So the Object oriented programmers are in need for a solutions for this problem of decomposition .For that problem as a solution a built in pattern matching construct is introduced which is compatible with object oriented programmingis proposed. This method produces some abstractions that are usually implemented in an object oriented programming language, which supports the object oriented style through its syntax and semantics. It does so by providing an object model and by offering built in methods for object construction, method calls, field access and deletion of objects. I think that this is very important, as Polanski has done this in order to exaggerate and evoke emotion within the audience. Another symbolic scene is when Szpilman is hiding in an old abandon building he is approached by a German officer called Wilm Hosenfeld. Hosenfeld orders Szpilman to play the piano, and at this time Hosenfeld s appearance is strong as we see in a close up of Hosenfeld. O Connor reflects in all of her writings that God, and his gifts, are the things that can bring everlasting joy. She knows that there are always roadblocks in the way, though. Throughout the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor uses literary elements of symbolism, characterization, and naturalism to develop her theme of finding what truly matters in life. Symbols within a story can help to represent greater meaning out of one piece of work. Flannery develops symbolism through the car and through Shiftlet. Shiftlet is compared to Christ the savior many times, but then later reveals himself to be more of an anti Christ. O Connor describes Shiftlet as a wanderer who, swung both his whole and his short arm slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross (O Connor 675). This is the first time that Flannery compares Shiftlet to JesusChrist by forming a cross. The cross is very symbolic towards Jesus because that is how God shows his love to all mankind. Shiftlet only has one arm, though, which shows that if he were to be compared to Jesus, he would be a flawed Christ. Like Guterson s use of duality, the cartoon clearly contrasts the different social experiences between races by posing the same scenario. In both frames respectively, a White and African American child propose the same statement, I m goin out mom! . However, the difference between frames is the response by the assumed mother. The view pertaining to the white child dictates a simple answer, put on your jacket , whereas the African American view dictates the response in the first frame as well as measures to prevent the attention of authorities. Clearly, Sargent s use of text implies that the African American youth population experience a harsher life due to prejudice. This is demonstrated by just a fraction of the instructions the African American child is given, don t make any sudden moves and keep your mouth shut around police . This scenario of race and cultural difference is undeniably relatable to the American and Japanese populations of Snow Falling on Cedars . Within the novel, after the attack on pearl harbour, Fujiko huddles her daughters and delivers a line similar to that of assumed African American mother in the cartoon, We bend our head, we bow and are silent, because we understand that by ourselves, alone, we are nothing ...
