WHAT IS INFORMATIONAND
COMMUNICATIONSTECHNOLOGY?
■ Information and communications technology deals with the use of different
communication technologies such as mobile phones, telephone, internet etc. to
locate, save and edit information. (EmpowermentTechnologies)
■ Similar to InformationTechnology (IT), but focuses primarily on communication
technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and
other communication mediums. (https://techterms.com/definition/ict)
■ Term is generally accepted to mean all devices, networking components,
applications and systems that combined allow people and organizations (i.e.,
businesses, nonprofit agencies, governments and criminal enterprises) to
interact in the digital world. (http://searchcio.techtarget.com/definition/ICT-
information-and-communications-technology-or-technologies)
How it all started?
Computer networking is
the practice of interfacing
two or more computing
devices with each other for
the purpose of sharing
data. Computer networks
are built with a
combination of hardware
and software.
MobileTechnology
Technology that is portable; it
refers to any device that you
can carry with you to perform a
wide variety of “tasks”. It is
technology that allows those
tasks to be performed via
cellular phone, PDA, laptops,
etc.
Internet The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a
worldwide system of computer networks - a network of
networks in which users at any one computer can, if they
have permission, get information from any other
computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other
computers).
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is the
company you pay a fee to for access to the
internet. No matter the kind of internet
access (cable, DSL, dial-up), an ISP
provides you or your business a piece of a
larger pipe to the internet.
WORLD WIDE WEB
TheWorld Wide Web (WWW) is combination of all
resources and users on the Internet that are using
the HypertextTransfer Protocol. (HTTP)
TheWeb, as it's commonly known, is often confused
with the internet. Although the two are intricately
connected, they are different things. The internet is,
as its name implies, a network -- a vast, global
network that incorporates a multitude of lesser
networks. As such, the internet consists of
supporting infrastructure and other technologies. In
contrast, theWeb is a communications model that,
through HTTP, enables the exchange of information
over the internet.
WEB GENERATIONS
WEB 1.0 –Web pages that are in static or pages that cannot be
manipulated. They are also know as flat pages or stationary
pages.
WEB 2.0 – Is an evolution ofWeb 1.0 by adding dynamic web
pages. The user is able to see a website differently than others.
It allows the user to use web browsers instead of just using their
operating system. Most of website that we visit today are web
2.0
WEB 3.0 – it is an evolution of the web 2.0 or some called it
Semantic Web. It is a concept of theWorld Wide World that is
designed to cater the individual user
Key features ofWeb 2.0
1. Folksonomy - allows users to categorize and classify/ arrange
information using freely chosen keywords ( e.g. tagging).
2. Rich user Experience – content is dynamic and is responsive to user’s
input
3. User Participation – the owner of the website is not the only one who is
able to put content. Others are able to place a content of their own by
means of comments, reviews and evaluations.
4. Long tail – services are offered on demand rather than on a one-time
purchase.
5. Software as service – users will subscribe to a software only when
needed rather than purchasing them.
6. Mass participation – diverse information sharing through universal web
access
SOCIAL MEDIA
■ Is a website, application or online channel that
enables web users to create, co-create, discuss,
modify and exchange user-generated content.
■ Social media is the collective of online
communications channels dedicated to community-
based input, interaction, content-sharing and
collaboration.
TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
■ Social Networks
■ Bookmarking Sites
■ Social News
■ Media Sharing
■ Microblogging
■ Blogs and Forums
