Trajan’s Column is one of
many public works
commissioned by Emperor
Trajan after he conquered
Dacia (in modern day
Romania) in 107 C.E., a
victory that stretched the
Roman Empire to its
greatest size. The column,
which also served as
Trajan’s tomb, is over 100
feet tall and is decorated
with a continuous spiral
frieze commemorating the
two battles against Dacia.
SCULPTURE OF THE ANCIENT WORLD - CHINA
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of
Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with
the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his
afterlife.

Dogū (Japanese literally "earthen figure") are
small humanoid and animal figurines made
during the later part of the Jōmon period
(14,000–400 BC) of prehistoric Japan.

The most famous Niō in Japan
can be found at the entrance
gate of Tōdaiji Temple in Nara.
These 26-feet-tall statues were
made in 1203 AD, reportedly
under the direction of the
famous
sculptors Unkei and Kaikei.
The Niō were introduced to
Japan in the 7th or 8th century.
The oldest extant statues of the
two in Japan (dated to 711) are
located at Hōryūji Temple in
Nara, and the 8th-century dry -
lacquer sculptures at Tōdaiji
Temple in Nara.

Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) is a
fountain in the Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy. It was designed in
1651 by Gian Lorenzo Angel with Lance by Domenico Guidi (1669). The
statue is located on the Ponte Sant'Angelo, once the
Aelian Bridge or Pons Aelius, meaning the Bridge of
Hadrian, in Rome, Italy.

  • 11. Trajan’s Column, 110 C.E. Trajan’s Column is one of many public works commissioned by Emperor Trajan after he conquered Dacia (in modern day Romania) in 107 C.E., a victory that stretched the Roman Empire to its greatest size. The column, which also served as Trajan’s tomb, is over 100 feet tall and is decorated with a continuous spiral frieze commemorating the two battles against Dacia.

SCULPTURE OF THE ANCIENT WORLD - JAPAN Dogū (Japanese literally "earthen figure") are small humanoid and animal figurines made during the later part of the Jōmon period (14,000–400 BC) of prehistoric Japan. Shaka Triad (Shaka Sanzonzō Treasure of Hōryūji Temple (Nara), 632 AD Historical Buddha (aka Shaka) surrounded by attendants Monju Bosatsu and Fugen Bosatsu.   • 15. The most famous Niō in Japan can be found at the entrance gate of Tōdaiji Temple in Nara. These 26-feet-tall statues were made in 1203 AD, reportedly under the direction of the famous sculptors Unkei and Kaikei. The Niō were introduced to Japan in the 7th or 8th century. The oldest extant statues of the two in Japan (dated to 711) are located at Hōryūji Temple in Nara, and the 8th-century dry - lacquer sculptures at Tōdaiji Temple in Nara.

  • 22. Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) is a fountain in the Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy. It was designed in 1651 by Gian Lorenzo Angel with Lance by Domenico Guidi (1669). The statue is located on the Ponte Sant'Angelo, once the Aelian Bridge or Pons Aelius, meaning the Bridge of Hadrian, in Rome, Italy.
