Green Building Certification systems
• Used to assess a building performance (quantify how
‘green’ a building is) from environmental perspective
• Buildings that are assessed and are deemed to meet
a certain level of performance receive a certificate
proving this achievement

Indian Green Building Council, formed by the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001 and is a
consensus driven not-for-profit Council.

The green concepts in the building sector address national
issues like water efficiency, energy efficiency, reduction in fossil
fuel use for commuting, handling of consumer waste and
conserving natural resources.

4. SCOPE
IGBC Green New Buildings rating system is designed
primarily for new buildings, both for air-conditioned and
non-air-conditioned buildings.

NOTE
Building types such as Residential, Factory Buildings, Schools,
Integrated Townships will be covered under other IGBC
rating programmes.
New Buildings include (but are not limited to)…
1. Owner-occupied buildings are those wherein 51%
or more of the building’s built-up area is occupied
by the owner.
2. Tenant-occupied buildings are those wherein 51%
or more of the building’s built-up area is occupied
by the tenants.

indicators, summation of these points gives the Certification based on threshold values.
