Juvenile Justice
Juvenile justice has traditionally followed a punitive model when faced with young transgressors.
Most juvenile justice departments have then also followed this model, creating a system that is in
effect not only separate from the community, but also from the family unit. Many juvenile offenders
are then physically removed both from their communities and their families to be incarcerated into
punitive institutions. According to the Balanced and Restorative Justice model, however,
accountability is best encouraged with the direct involvement of both the community and the family
unit (U.S. Dept. of Justice). This is also the case with young John Black, whose offense was
possession of a fire arm, although this did not lead to any actual harm to others. He is therefore an
excellent candidate for family and community based programs, helping him to learn accountability
and find his place in society in an effective and productive way. Probation in juvenile justice has a
very specific role. The first important thing to keep in mind is the underlying reasons for crimes
committed by youth and the importance of distinguishing this from the reasons why adults would
engage in criminal activity (King County, 2012). As such, the Juvenile Probation Office regards
accountability as important when young people like John commit crimes, but it is also important to
prevent further delinquent activity. Hence, the Office considers incarceration or institutionalization
only as a last resort

Alien Abduction Analysis
The premise of the article is based around the concept of repressed and fake memories. In essence the
article mentions that there are various reasons that would result in fake or repressed memories. The
reasons that are initially mentioned are cases of traumatic events and in some cases nontraumatic
events. As for the main argument of the article simply put the author(s) are attempting to find an
explanation of the reasons of alien abductions as a way to find the reasons as to why some people
report various accounts of alien abduction with no actual concept or explanation to support the validity
of the claim outside of simple knowing they were abducted on the basis that they just know. As for the
results of their study the researchers found that in many cases false ... Show more content on

As for my thoughts on the article it was a rather interesting concept in regards to the general
functionality of the mind that in most cases people are more or less unaware of the subtle changes.
Further solidifying the simple fact that one s memory of past events are simply unreliable. Basically
due to the fact that as time pases a large section of details related to that memory become forgotten
ultimately resulting in the brain creating a replacement memory in many cases changing slightly after
every attempt to recall that select memory. Although at the same time i understand that the alien
abduction had only been a concept to test it was rather distracting as something that seemed so
outlandish it painted a picture of a garden variety conspiracy theorist sitting in the office of the
researches rambling on about how they simply know they had been abducted and that s why they can
never take off their tin foil hats. Granted that is not to say that there is no possible chance that there are
other life forms on different planets (particularly in a statistical perspective) however, for a article that
had an important and serious study results the general concept of a

Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Fission
How Nuclear Fission produces Nuclear Bombs and Energy
KABOOOOM! That was the sound of the two atomic bombs the United States of America dropped on
the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War 2. These two bombs were the main reason the
Japanese surrendered, which led to the end of the war. The bomb at Hiroshima had a death toll of
135,000 and Nagasaki s death toll was 64,000 ( The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ).
So how are these destructive bombs made? They are made by nuclear fission. Nuclear fission is when
an atom splits into two parts, either through natural decay of when instigated within a lab and it
produces energy. The natural decay is done through beta decay and blasting neutrons at the nuclear of
the atom is what splits the atom. Nuclear fission has changed the world today, it is used to create
nuclear bombs and conduct electricity in power plants, and has ... Show more content on

Nuclear power also has a lot fewer greenhouse emissions. It has been determined that the amount of
greenhouse gases have decreased by almost half because of the prevalence in the utilization of nuclear
power. Nuclear energy has the least effect on nature since it doesn t discharge any gasses like methane
and carbon dioxide, which are the primary greenhouse gasses ( Pros and Cons of Nuclear Energy. ).
So, nuclear power is the cheapest source of electricity and produces the smallest amount of pollution
than any other source of energy. But there s even more pros about nuclear energy. It is the most
reliable source of energy. Solar energy is only good in sunny places, wind energy is only good in
windy places, geothermal energy can only conduct electricity where hot spots are located, and
hydroelectric energy is produced by water turning turbines that produce electricity. Nuclear energy can
be conducted anywhere as long as there is enough space for the power plant to be

Role and Conflict Paper
The movie I chose was Legally Blonde. Just like anyone else Elle Woods wanted to be accepted or
like by someone. Rather if that s by their parent(s), friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend. Elle was a normal
young lady, who is petite, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Not only did she have the looks, but she was
also rich. But she portrayed as a dumb blonde. So once her boyfriend broke up with her, Elle went and
join Harvard Law School, in order to get Warner back. Once into Law School, you can t miss all the
disputes, self disclosure, and power amongst each characters. In my paper, I will share my opinion on

When the first power point hit in the movie, it was when Warner feels he s better than Elle, because he
goes to Harvard and that s somewhere that Elle may not get accepted because she wasn t as start as
him. Power point (2) was when Warner and Vivian became in engage, she felt she was on top of the
winner circle for being engage to Warner. Another great part of the movie I find very powerful, was
when Elle became the attorney for Brooke Windham, which was on trial for the murder of her
husband. In the beginning Elle feels very afraid, but she gain her confidence and won the case. With
this big win not only did Elle gain confidence, she also receive power, which was the two main things
she was lacking when she first enter into law school.
Main conflicts took place within the entire movie. Many were big and some were small. The first of
many conflict was when Elle and Vivian first met. Next was when Elle s teacher tried to make moves
on her. But the one I feel was the biggest of all conflicts was the on Elle was battling within herself. In
her eyes she wanted to provide to everyone that she could make it into Harvard Law School, but in
order to do this she had to stop doubting herself first. Therefore, when Elle met this guy name
Emmett, he help Elle to gain some self esteem for herself. With his help, this help Elle want to do
better and win the case she was handling as the attorney for Brooke which was charged with murder.
With her new found self esteem, this made

The Call for the Gaelic League Essay
The Call for the Gaelic League
What would the United States be like if Americans couldn t practice their customs, culture, or even
appreciate their heritage? Granted the United States is a melting pot for several ethnicities, but some
native countries and cultures have faced this type of dilemma. The Spanish influence on the Aztecs
and the English on Native Americans are two examples of this imperialistic move. If only these
cultures had a strong network of men and women who devoted their lives towards keeping their
culture and history alive for future generations. The Gaelic League was based upon this definition.

The congestion led to the activation of the Irish Poor laws in 1838 by Great Britain s Queen Victoria.
These laws were enforced in an attempt to promote emigration to areas like the United States and
Australia. All the outcomes of the Famine were not necessarily negative. One such incentive was
modernization. According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the
tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). The demand for an
institution of education was in order.
To answer the demand would eventually lead to, The Gaelic League, the dominant institution of the
third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation
of 1829. With the loss of so many people, religion became a large part of the community. Such a
devastating event left the Irish vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful
nation could easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the mid
to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living. The Catholic
Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern regions of Ireland, grew in
popularity and even united small rural towns. This action rebuilt trust in communities and aided the
most devastated of areas. The major Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be

After his three year apprenticeship, Keats became a medical student at Guy s hospital. With his study
taking over, he was losing time to write. He had always had a passion for literature, so he made up his
mind to increase the time spent on poetry, and his first poem was published in 1814. Although he
received his Apothecary licence in 1816, he decided to follow the path of his inspiration, Lord Byron,
and become a poet. Five months before his first book, Poems , was published, Keats was introduced to
one of Byron and Shelley s friends, Hunt, who helped him advance in his writing. His first book was
not received to well by the public, neither was the rest of his work. In his lifetime, Keats work copped
more hate than any other poet of his time. But by the end of the 19th century he was one of the most
beloved poets studied. Actually Meg, on his gravestone Keats wanted to write Here lies one whose
name was writ in water. He knew he wasn t appreciated in his time, and he would be washed away by
those who read his name, yet he prophesised he would be appreciated in the years that followed.
Keats met the love of his life who did love him for many years after his death, Fanny Brawne, in 1818.
They started off as close friends, but their friendship soon became intimate and all of Keats time and
energy was put into her. The majority of his poems reflected his love for her,

Essay On Dichloropropene
Dichloropropene Use on California s Strawberry Fields
California is rich in history. The Golden State was a destination for gold seekers and is still the
launching pad for many entrepreneurs. Californians have a special culture for innovation. It is no
wonder that Californians are dreamers, go getters adventurous people. The first gold rushers must
have been incredibly ambitious, albeit loco, to cross the entire stretch of North America via covered
wagon.
It is this spirit of innovation, endless work, and demand for nonstop business that has driven
strawberry farmers to depend on the organochlorine that is dichloropropene. An organochlorine is
manufactured from chlorinated hydrocarbons, or simply put, its three essential ingredients are
chlorine, carbon and hydrogen (Friis, 2016). While the use of dichloropropene has undoubtedly
boosted growth of fields and bank accounts, it is known to do exponential harm. This is called
bioaccumulation (Friis, 2016). Another example of this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The follow up commentary on the statement in the report is not forgiving, but further explains that

done with animals proved that exposure to dichloropropene led to cancers affecting all organs of
urinary, digestive and respiratory systems (EPA, 1986). Some people might discount the findings of
these studies on animals because humans and animals might metabolize chemicals differently.
However, the adverse effects on the animals are so severe that it cannot be denied that the pesticide is
poisonous. The EPA reported in 1986 that workers (those who would apply the pesticide in the fields)
may be exposed to dichloropropene in the range of 0.15 to 23.99 mg/year (EPA,

The Problems with Voting in America Essay
The Problems with Voting in America
If one were to look at the voting history as of late in America you would surely find information on
the Florida catastrophe in 2000. The problem with our voting system today is in the technology being
used; many demographic groups find our current systems confusing and hard to use. As voters step
into the polling places this election year many will be voting through new devices some even sporting
touch screen technology and we can only hope that the new technology is understood and accepted.
In the US each municipality selects their own voting equipment regardless of what other places are
doing. According to this CPSR article the Vote O Matic system has been in place for over ten years in

Chads are perforated and held onto by 3 spots, but often only 1 or 2 of these spots comes undone
cleanly which is known as a hanging chad. This analog manner of literally punching votes can be very
ambiguous when read by a machine. Erik Nilsson calls these machines antiques and rightfully so,
these machines have no place in polling places.
In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system
all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was
spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be
trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating from voters
(Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up price and with
internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution.
Can our government trust a company enough to allow them to make our voting machines? The answer
is no. The only way electronic touch screen voting will eliminate all other methods is to have a way to
be audited. PBS states in this article that an ATM company called Diebold has their eyes on making a
sufficient voting machine, but with ATMs always printing a receipt it s likely that receipt technology
will find its way into voting. While I do believe that our future voting machines will have to be

change their names if they are a woman like the Brontë sisters (Charlotte, Emily, and Anne), if they

According to the article What s in a name? (E. Bennet),Eric Blair writer of Animal Farm and Nineteen

Comparison Of Arthurian Legend

A Comparison of Arthurian Legend in Various Stories
Arthurian legend was a genre many writers used in Chaucer s day. It is a story made of romances,
heroism, and ballads mostly about Arthur s chief knight Sir Gawain who was mainly a man of social
and ethical virtue. Often time s Arthurian legend is a story of a knight who fights the bad guy, learns a
lesson, saves the day and get s the girl. Although sometimes the knight may start off as the bad guy as
he did in one of Chaucer s famous tales The Wife of Bath. Although Arthurian legend was used in
many stories of that time, often the details were changed around to make the story unique but all in all
kept the same idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A young lustful knight rapes a young maiden one day in Arthur s courts and is threatened to be put to
death. The queen offer s him a second chance by offering a challenge. The challenges was that he was
given a year to figure out what women truly want from their husbands and come back and present his
findings. A year pasts and he doesn t find his answer. As he s heading back to Arthur s court to face
certain death he meets an old hag. This old hag makes a deal with him that she will give him his
answer and help him if he pledges himself to her. He agrees and heads back to the courts and presents
his answer. When his life is saved the old hag comes up and asks the knight to marry him. Of course
he is forced to say yes and on their wedding night the old hag finds him rather upset with the whole
situation. She then offers him another deal. She gave him the choice to pick between having an
unfaithful but young and beautiful wife, or a faithful and true older, uglier wife. The knight tells the
old hag she can choose and when he says this, she turns into a young beautiful woman and promises to
always stay truthful to him because he rendered himself to her. This is another story presented with a
situation that would never be able to happen in real life. The question raised is why these authors
would add these supernatural stories into their literature when their audience was clearly protestant. I
think that these

The Decline Of Native American And Inupiat Culture
The American government and society has played a substantial role in the decline of both the Native
American and Inupiat culture. They created inhumane boarding schools and oppressing laws that
inhibited those of a different culture from being themselves and partook in the urbanization of cultured
communities. The following practices need to be stopped and never forgotten so that such ethnocide
doesn t happen again. Boarding schools were an issue that plagued both Native Americans and
Inupiats. As conveyed by the writings of Mary Crow Dog and other Native American figures, we see
how the effects of such schools were devastating to the native population. Boarding schools wiped
Natives of their language and culture, teaching young children to be ashamed of what makes them
unique. Pupils would return from their long stays at boarding schools, unable to speak to their own
family, resulting in an isolation between themselves and their community. Over the years, generations
would eventually lose most of what makes them native and, for the most part, their culture slowly
faded away. It seems that the Inupiat people faced a similar fate. Inupiat children were forced to learn
by Western standards, eventually forgetting their crucial survival skills, language, religion and other
unique aspects of their culture. However, we are exposed to a more positive outlook towards boarding
schools in the book, Fifty Miles from Tomorrow, where William Hensley says he enjoyed his boarding

We Must Go Wrong Will Going Wrong
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Even with the knowledge that human error, internal and
external factors can, do, and will affect the outcome of any given task, individuals strive towards
creating environments in which risk levels can be safely and satisfactorily managed by facing those
threats head on. There is a lesson behind each disappointment or negative outcome that leads us to a
greater understanding of and appreciation for our surroundings. More importantly, this newfound
knowledge and experience contribute to the evolution of safer, more manageable systems that are
capable of anticipating future threats to any given environment. This type of learning is especially
beneficial in the aviation industry. Without a true appreciation of the costly mistakes that have forever
changed the face of the industry, aviation would neither have evolved into the safest mode of
transportation in the world, nor would it be as rich in technological and human behavioral resources.
We ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect the aircraft
only to learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, [that] the safety of the operator is more important than any
other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill. Wright suggests that it is not a
measure of technology or individual crewmember capabilities, rather the issue at the center of aviation
is the lack of caution and preparation that exists within the cabin. Information gathered from

Essay On Karl Marx Exploitation Theory
Karl Marx: management practices, exploitation and manipulation.
In his book ( removed HTML ) , Karl Marx examined the labour process in capitalism economic and
explained how capitalists exploit the labouring classes by appropriating the surplus value produced by
labour, which is the value or output in excess of the value of their wages. The concept of the
exploitation theory applies to the labour process in all class divided societies, not only capitalism
[Buchanan, 1979]. Workers are either forced to work by their feudal lord under feudalism or by their
lack of ownership of the means of production under capitalism. Marx s exploitation theory implies
there is always exploitation as long as there is profit. Since Marx developed his exploitation theory

Firstly the capitalists expect a fair profit on the risk of capital investment, otherwise capitalists won t
invest. Therefore workers won t have job. Secondly the add value from the management practices
should not be taken for granted. Marx also did not foresee the evolution of capitalism and the role for
the governments. Capitalism has to promote mandatory humanity and working conditions required by
the government regulators and pressure of the society. Capitalists cannot force workers to work for
long hours any more. And in the free labour market, they also have to pay workers the market price for
the work they do; otherwise the workers would go to other places. Capitalists cannot exploit workers
like the way they did hundreds years ago. Many organizations (capitalists) turn to management
practices to improve efficiency and productivity, so they can reduce the cost of production and in
return increase the profit. Are management practices and exploitation or manipulation? In order to
answer this question, firstly we need to understand the definition of management; secondly we

The Evil Character Of Odysseus In Homer s Odyssey
One person who is like Odysseus is Thor because he shows that he is brave, self confident, and shows
nobility like Odysseus himself. The evil character in Thor is Loki because he tricks people into
believing into something that not true. The evil characters that Odysseus has to get through to get back
home are Poseidon and Alcinous because Poseidon makes him suffer and Alcinous marry his wife
while he was gone. Thor had to fight his brother Loki because he wanted to take his father s throne.
Odysseus had to suffer because he took his sons eye out and Alcinous wanted to marry his wife
because he thought that Odysseus was dead. In the story The Odyssey by Homer was written among
the eighth century when Odysseus was known as the cursed man alive and was assumed dead to others
but to his son, Telemachus and his wife, Penelope . The Odyssey means the The Tale of Odysseus ,

Pycnopodia s Nervous System
Despite its apparent lack of a central coordinating nervous system (no brain), Pycnopodia has a
repertoire of sensory systems to locate and capture its prey. Its simple nervous system takes the form
of a central ring, with radial nerves extending into each of its rays. Each ray is covered with thousands
of tiny tubed feet that provide tactile information such as touch, temperature and body position. At the
end of each ray are specialized tube feet filled with sensory cells that detect chemical cues and trigger
sensations of taste and smell. Light sensory organs (red spots or eye spots) at the tip of each ray detect
light and dark (direction, presence of large objects).

Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally Corrupt Woman in Hamlet
Shakespeare s character Gertrude is one of much mystery; in relation to this there are many questions
that need to be answered to establish Gertrude s innocence through out the play. Some examples of
these questions are, was Gertrude in some kind of relationship with Claudius before the murder of her
late Husband and did she know about the murder before or after it was committed? Does she love
Claudius or is it just her status that she is protecting? And did she ever love the late King Hamlet?
At the beginning of the play when we learn about the late King Hamlet s death and Gertrude s hasty
marriage to his brother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although she tells Hamlet this there is nothing to suggest that she has any guilty knowledge about the
late King s death or that she, herself, is missing him and grieving as well.
There is no solid evidence in the beginning to suggest that she really loves Claudius, but this changes
through out the play. This is shown when Laertes comes to attack Claudius. At first Gertrude restrains
him, saying calmly, good Laertes then she goes on to defend Claudius by revealing that it was not the
king that killed Polonious But not by him Act 4, Scene 5. It is evident that she depends on Claudius.
This is shown when she faces unwanted confrontation and she immediately runs straight to Claudius,
this is shown after she talks to Hamlet in the closet scene and she seems dependant on the men in her
life. However this also works the other way round as we see that Claudius is slightly dependant on
Gertrude s advice as he seems to ask her for advice Do you think tis this Act 2 Scene 2, but although
this is the case she is not included in major decisions.
As a character there is a great deal emphasis on her relationship with Hamlet, it is evident that she
loves her son very dearly; she seems particularly concerned when she learns of Hamlets madness. This
could be explained in likeness of a mothers concern but it is also arguable that she has no knowledge
that the madness is pretence; this

Organizational Behaviour Case Analysis
Case Analysis: Leading Change At Simmons Problem Identification
In the case Leading Change at Simmons , the fundamental issue for Simmons Company is whether or
not it should go ahead with Eitel s proposed idea of a culture change program which would cost $7.2
million at a time where the company is encompassed in a myriad of problems and severe economic
crises . The program has had initial success but its future profitability still remains largely uncertain
due to high levels of stress and resistance to change found amongst the company s employees.

structure is not in line with its promulgated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To overcome this resistance to change, it is essential that Eitel form positive relationships with his
workers along with good support and commitment. He could do this by encouraging better
communication in the company and educating the management about his plan by communicating the
logic of his proposed changes. If the employees see the full facts and solve the misunderstandings,
resistance should subside. This can be done by allowing the employees to develop and form the plans
to introduce changes with him which would allow for enhanced participation and acceptance of the
change as the employees would have a sense of ownership in the change made which will make it
much easier for them to conform once everyone is on board for the decision. Eitel should also make
sure that all changes are fair to everyone and do not come of as being biased which could create
discrepancies among the workers.
Other than that, he should focus on activities such as intergroup development, which seeks to change
the groups attitudes, stereotypes and perceptions about each other through training sessions, which
focus on differences among occupations, departments, or divisions within an organization.

The Soldier By Rupert Brooke Analysis
Compare and contrast the language features used by Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke to express their
perception of war.
World War 1 was known at the time as the, the war to end all wars. The war fought between July 28,
1914, and November 11, 1918, during this period of time the perception of war and the casualties of
war changed immensely. This changed of perception can be established through the poets of Wilfred
Owen and Rupert Brooke. In the poems, The Soldier (1914), by Rupert Brooke, and Dulce et
Decorum Est (October 1917), by Wilfred Owen, both poets use language techniques to assist the
readers to comprehend each text. The Soldier is a portrayal of Rupert Brooke s eternal love for his
country as he goes to war. Rupert uses personification to structure his poem in the outline of a sonnet
to portray the soldier s extreme nationalism for England. While Wilfred describes the ugly reality of
war in his poem, Dulce et Decorum Est. Through the efficient use of metaphors and a rhyme scheme,
Owen s poem leaves a lasting image on the mind s of the audience.
Among the poems Dulce et Decorum Est and The Soldier, there are a numeral similarity. The use of
Titling, is created to mislead the reader, in the sense that the terms are used to contradict the content of
the poem. The Soldier evokes melancholy, but in reality the poem reveals that fighting in war is for the
lone purpose of defending one s country, and showcasing your nationalism. Hence encouraging the act
think this heart, all evil shed away , to then state his true extreme nationalism through the passage no
less gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given . While contrastingly the Dulce et Decorum
Est, reflects jingoism. But the poem itself exposes the cold truth about war through the tone of
resentment, thus disheartening glory. When considering the structure of each poem, they are very
similar in the way that they are both written as an iambic pentameter. Within addition they both share
a notable structure rhyme pattern. With Dulce et Decorum Est, portraying a rhyme that is broken at
one main point GAS! quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling this break, can be interpreted through the
audience as a sense of panic that would have flooded the

They Live By John Carpenter Essay
In the 1988 science fiction film They Live, filmmaker John Carpenter addresses and criticizes
homelessness among other issues of the times in the United States. Through the movie, John
Carpenter immerses his audience into his vision of what the 1980 s American culture is. Political
views portrayed mainly come from the disdain Carpenter feels towards Reagan s policies. He portrays
the American people as a naïve people who are consistently deceived by a corrupt social and
economic environment. Their abusers are portrayed as aliens who have control over them. Carpenter
shows that average American citizens are under governmental control and are taught through
subliminal messages such as conform , obey , watch television , marry and reproduce , ... Show more

His plan of action called for a market that was free and deregulated, rather than government assisted.
The budget for pubic housing was cut in half Reagan s first year in office, and throughout his
presidency, he attempted to put a stop to housing assistance entirely. By 1985, there were only 5.6
million low cost housing units available, while there were nearly 9 million people who needed access
to these households. This lead to the homeless legacy of Reagan; the late 1980 s saw a great increase
in the number of homeless individuals, many of which were veterans and laid off workers. (2) On a
talk show in 1984, President Reagan tried to defend himself stating, People who are sleeping on the
grates...the homeless...are homeless, you might say, by choice. This offensive statement of blaming the
poor for economic problems only made those who were against him, more outspoken in their ridicule.
Economic prosperity was credited to Reagan. However, the growth that occurred mostly benefited
those who were already in favorable circumstances. The income gap grew between the classes and
poverty rates increased. Cities with rent control, on average, have two and a half times more homeless
people as cities without them. This is an example of how governmental control has a negative and
severe impact on the people. When rent control is imposed, homelessness increases by 250 percent.

Bmw s Impact On The Manufacturing Of Cars
BMW begins its long history, which stretches for almost a hundred years, in Germany. BMW had a
major impact on the manufacturing of cars. Rapp needed a financial backer to do this and in 1916 he
renamed the Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian Motor Works). After a financial problem with the
company Rapp left. When Rapp left the company Franz Josef Popp took over. He set up BMW as we
know it today( BMW Early History ).
In 1913 a German engineer Karl Friedrich Rapp who had been the early director of a successful
aircraft company, started his own business to make aircraft engines. He named the Rapp
Motorenwerke and set up shop in Munich Germany. He did this because the biggest buyer of his
engines was nearby. The company did very well and was contracted to build a large sum of V12
airplane engines to fill a very high demand. BMW made many aircraft engines during WWI. After the
war was lost the Versailles Treaty prohibited German companies from producing aircraft and aircraft
engines. BMW had to find a new way to stay in business and get income. Again and again BMW had
discussed getting into the car business but it was never really necessary until now( History of BMW
). At this time in history German s economy was very bad and inflation was very high. BMW started
to make low cost cars in early 1925. They were a success and BMW made a full swing into the
automobile business.
In 1930 BMW began work on a new four cylinder engine. The engine was advanced for its time but it

The Story Of Mathematics From The Book The Infinite
In 1912, the unsinkable ship Titanic ruptured its hull on a large iceberg, causing a completely
unexpected disaster that shocked the world. Looking at this iceberg, or any other for that matter, the
average observer likely draws the conclusion that what he sees is a good portion of the entire slab of
frozen water. However, the observer only sees about 10 percent of its entirety: in order to view the
whole iceberg, he must look below the surface to understand how such a seemingly small iceberg
could sink a such a huge ship. And just as any observer should look deeper in order to understand the
sinking of the Titanic, I did the same with mathematics when I read Taming the Infinite: The story of
mathematics from the first numbers to chaos theory. Never before had I even considered the ideas
discussed in the book written by Ian Stewart. What I found within ruptured a mental hull in brain,
allowing the history of math to flow into my mind. Before reading the first two chapters, I had always
assumed that I had a fairly decent grasp of math; however, after completing the assignment I realized
the vastness of its history which reaches into depths I d never enter into otherwise. In my previous
math classes, ranging from Algebra I to AP Calculus, I never had been assigned to anything dealing
with the actual history of math. So, much to my surprise as stated earlier, I found many aspects of the
book to be infinitely fascinating. In the first chapter, I was astonished to learn

The Threat Of The Taliban Essay
Prior to its fall, the Taliban was the essential state supporter of Al Qaeda and gave a place of refuge
that permitted training camps to be set up in Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban, Al Qaeda has
extended out to other terrorist amasses in Egypt, Algeria, Pakistan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Somalia.
In Canada, terrorism exuding from Al Qaeda propelled radicalism remains a genuine risk. In spite of
late fruitful operations focusing on Al Qaeda Core, the Service keeps on seeing backing for AQ causes
in Canada. Of specific importance is the aforementioned examination concerning an asserted Al
Qaeda connected plot to assault a train in Southern Ontario, which prompted the capture of two people
in April 2013.Over the recent years Canada has seen an extensive development in both domestic and
global terrorist threat and additionally various significant. There were prominent episodes of
Canadians flying out abroad to take part in terrorist exercises, and the remarkable captures for an
asserted terrorist plot to be completed on Canadian soil. In the United States, fear assaults at the April
2013 Boston Marathon showed the continuous danger to the West from homegrown brutal extremism.
Globally, developments such as, the passing of Osama bin Laden in May 2011, Anwar Awlaki in
September 2011, and other key pioneers dealt major blows to the Al Qaeda (AQ) administration. In
spite of these occurrences, the danger from universal terrorism remains intact. Terrorist developments

Good Faith Exception
Police officers, like the citizens they protect, can make mistakes. I do not believe that police officers
should be held liable for acting in good faith. According to the United States Supreme Court, per
Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course of executing
their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on their part. But
the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly leading to their
conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the citizens of the
United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV). Over the course of
history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the police officers from any liability. My
focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance.
The Good Faith Exception
First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but
made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in
United States v. Leon. The Court maintained that the exclusionary rule is not relevant in situation
when police officers act with reasonable dependence on a search warrant that later proves to be
invalid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

out of your head and onto paper (or a Word document). Not too long. Do not spend too much time on
it and keep it very brief an overview. Arrange to see the new number one, preferably off site at a
neutral venue, and tell him that you have always had these ideas but never shared then and you would
now like to share them and if anything was that good, maybe the organization can adopt them.
You will either get an acceptance, in which case you will achieve what you have always wanted or you
will have a debate as to what can or cannot be adopted and you will have at least cleared the air for
yourself.

  • 2. Juvenile Justice Juvenile justice has traditionally followed a punitive model when faced with young transgressors. Most juvenile justice departments have then also followed this model, creating a system that is in effect not only separate from the community, but also from the family unit. Many juvenile offenders are then physically removed both from their communities and their families to be incarcerated into punitive institutions. According to the Balanced and Restorative Justice model, however, accountability is best encouraged with the direct involvement of both the community and the family unit (U.S. Dept. of Justice). This is also the case with young John Black, whose offense was possession of a fire arm, although this did not lead to any actual harm to others. He is therefore an excellent candidate for family and community based programs, helping him to learn accountability and find his place in society in an effective and productive way. Probation in juvenile justice has a very specific role. The first important thing to keep in mind is the underlying reasons for crimes committed by youth and the importance of distinguishing this from the reasons why adults would engage in criminal activity (King County, 2012). As such, the Juvenile Probation Office regards accountability as important when young people like John commit crimes, but it is also important to prevent further delinquent activity. Hence, the Office considers incarceration or institutionalization only as a last resort ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Alien Abduction Analysis The premise of the article is based around the concept of repressed and fake memories. In essence the article mentions that there are various reasons that would result in fake or repressed memories. The reasons that are initially mentioned are cases of traumatic events and in some cases nontraumatic events. As for the main argument of the article simply put the author(s) are attempting to find an explanation of the reasons of alien abductions as a way to find the reasons as to why some people report various accounts of alien abduction with no actual concept or explanation to support the validity of the claim outside of simple knowing they were abducted on the basis that they just know. As for the results of their study the researchers found that in many cases false ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As for my thoughts on the article it was a rather interesting concept in regards to the general functionality of the mind that in most cases people are more or less unaware of the subtle changes. Further solidifying the simple fact that one s memory of past events are simply unreliable. Basically due to the fact that as time pases a large section of details related to that memory become forgotten ultimately resulting in the brain creating a replacement memory in many cases changing slightly after every attempt to recall that select memory. Although at the same time i understand that the alien abduction had only been a concept to test it was rather distracting as something that seemed so outlandish it painted a picture of a garden variety conspiracy theorist sitting in the office of the researches rambling on about how they simply know they had been abducted and that s why they can never take off their tin foil hats. Granted that is not to say that there is no possible chance that there are other life forms on different planets (particularly in a statistical perspective) however, for a article that had an important and serious study results the general concept of a ... • 6. Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Fission How Nuclear Fission produces Nuclear Bombs and Energy KABOOOOM! That was the sound of the two atomic bombs the United States of America dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War 2. These two bombs were the main reason the Japanese surrendered, which led to the end of the war. The bomb at Hiroshima had a death toll of 135,000 and Nagasaki s death toll was 64,000 ( The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ). So how are these destructive bombs made? They are made by nuclear fission. Nuclear fission is when an atom splits into two parts, either through natural decay of when instigated within a lab and it produces energy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the first power point hit in the movie, it was when Warner feels he s better than Elle, because he goes to Harvard and that s somewhere that Elle may not get accepted because she wasn t as start as him. Power point (2) was when Warner and Vivian became in engage, she felt she was on top of the winner circle for being engage to Warner. Another great part of the movie I find very powerful, was when Elle became the attorney for Brooke Windham, which was on trial for the murder of her husband. In the beginning Elle feels very afraid, but she gain her confidence and won the case. With this big win not only did Elle gain confidence, she also receive power, which was the two main things she was lacking when she first enter into law school. Main conflicts took place within the entire movie. Many were big and some were small. The first of many conflict was when Elle and Vivian first met. Next was when Elle s teacher tried to make moves on her. But the one I feel was the biggest of all conflicts was the on Elle was battling within herself. In her eyes she wanted to provide to everyone that she could make it into Harvard Law School, but in order to do this she had to stop doubting herself first. Therefore, when Elle met this guy name Emmett, he help Elle to gain some self esteem for herself. Granted the United States is a melting pot for several ethnicities, but some native countries and cultures have faced this type of dilemma. The Spanish influence on the Aztecs and the English on Native Americans are two examples of this imperialistic move. If only these cultures had a strong network of men and women who devoted their lives towards keeping their culture and history alive for future generations. These laws were enforced in an attempt to promote emigration to areas like the United States and Australia. All the outcomes of the Famine were not necessarily negative. One such incentive was modernization. According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). The demand for an institution of education was in order. To answer the demand would eventually lead to, The Gaelic League, the dominant institution of the third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation of 1829. With the loss of so many people, religion became a large part of the community. Such a devastating event left the Irish vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful nation could easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the mid to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living. The Catholic Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern regions of Ireland, grew in popularity and even united small rural towns. This action rebuilt trust in communities and aided the most devastated of areas. The major Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He had always had a passion for literature, so he made up his mind to increase the time spent on poetry, and his first poem was published in 1814. Although he received his Apothecary licence in 1816, he decided to follow the path of his inspiration, Lord Byron, and become a poet. Five months before his first book, Poems , was published, Keats was introduced to one of Byron and Shelley s friends, Hunt, who helped him advance in his writing. His first book was not received to well by the public, neither was the rest of his work. In his lifetime, Keats work copped more hate than any other poet of his time. But by the end of the 19th century he was one of the most beloved poets studied. Actually Meg, on his gravestone Keats wanted to write Here lies one whose name was writ in water. The Golden State was a destination for gold seekers and is still the launching pad for many entrepreneurs. Californians have a special culture for innovation. It is no wonder that Californians are dreamers, go getters adventurous people. The first gold rushers must have been incredibly ambitious, albeit loco, to cross the entire stretch of North America via covered wagon. It is this spirit of innovation, endless work, and demand for nonstop business that has driven strawberry farmers to depend on the organochlorine that is dichloropropene. An organochlorine is manufactured from chlorinated hydrocarbons, or simply put, its three essential ingredients are chlorine, carbon and hydrogen (Friis, 2016). As voters step into the polling places this election year many will be voting through new devices some even sporting touch screen technology and we can only hope that the new technology is understood and accepted. This analog manner of literally punching votes can be very ambiguous when read by a machine. Erik Nilsson calls these machines antiques and rightfully so, these machines have no place in polling places. In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution. Can our government trust a company enough to allow them to make our voting machines? The answer is no. The only way electronic touch screen voting will eliminate all other methods is to have a way to be audited. Comparison Of Arthurian Legend Michelle Feddema ENG 4U Mr. Nielsen Friday November 19, 2010 A Comparison of Arthurian Legend in Various Stories Arthurian legend was a genre many writers used in Chaucer s day. It is a story made of romances, heroism, and ballads mostly about Arthur s chief knight Sir Gawain who was mainly a man of social and ethical virtue. Often time s Arthurian legend is a story of a knight who fights the bad guy, learns a lesson, saves the day and get s the girl. He agrees and heads back to the courts and presents his answer. When his life is saved the old hag comes up and asks the knight to marry him. Of course he is forced to say yes and on their wedding night the old hag finds him rather upset with the whole situation. She then offers him another deal. The knight tells the old hag she can choose and when he says this, she turns into a young beautiful woman and promises to always stay truthful to him because he rendered himself to her. They created inhumane boarding schools and oppressing laws that inhibited those of a different culture from being themselves and partook in the urbanization of cultured communities. The following practices need to be stopped and never forgotten so that such ethnocide doesn t happen again. Boarding schools were an issue that plagued both Native Americans and Inupiats. As conveyed by the writings of Mary Crow Dog and other Native American figures, we see how the effects of such schools were devastating to the native population. Boarding schools wiped Natives of their language and culture, teaching young children to be ashamed of what makes them unique. Pupils would return from their long stays at boarding schools, unable to speak to their own family, resulting in an isolation between themselves and their community. Over the years, generations would eventually lose most of what makes them native and, for the most part, their culture slowly faded away. It seems that the Inupiat people faced a similar fate. Inupiat children were forced to learn by Western standards, eventually forgetting their crucial survival skills, language, religion and other unique aspects of their culture. There is a lesson behind each disappointment or negative outcome that leads us to a greater understanding of and appreciation for our surroundings. More importantly, this newfound knowledge and experience contribute to the evolution of safer, more manageable systems that are capable of anticipating future threats to any given environment. Without a true appreciation of the costly mistakes that have forever changed the face of the industry, aviation would neither have evolved into the safest mode of transportation in the world, nor would it be as rich in technological and human behavioral resources. We ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect the aircraft only to learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, [that] the safety of the operator is more important than any other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill. World War 1 was known at the time as the, the war to end all wars. The war fought between July 28, 1914, and November 11, 1918, during this period of time the perception of war and the casualties of war changed immensely. This changed of perception can be established through the poets of Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke. In the poems, The Soldier (1914), by Rupert Brooke, and Dulce et Decorum Est (October 1917), by Wilfred Owen, both poets use language techniques to assist the readers to comprehend each text. The Soldier is a portrayal of Rupert Brooke s eternal love for his country as he goes to war. Rupert uses personification to structure his poem in the outline of a sonnet to portray the soldier s extreme nationalism for England. While Wilfred describes the ugly reality of war in his poem, Dulce et Decorum Est. Through the efficient use of metaphors and a rhyme scheme, Owen s poem leaves a lasting image on the mind s of the audience. Among the poems Dulce et Decorum Est and The Soldier, there are a numeral similarity. The use of Titling, is created to mislead the reader, in the sense that the terms are used to contradict the content of the poem. • 33. Good Faith Exception Police officers, like the citizens they protect, can make mistakes. I do not believe that police officers should be held liable for acting in good faith. According to the United States Supreme Court, per Brinegar v. United States, because many situations which confront officers in the course of executing their duties are more or less ambiguous, room must be allowed for some mistakes on their part. But the mistakes must be those of reasonable men, acting on facts leading sensibly leading to their conclusions of probability. (PoliceMag, 2007). The Fourth Amendment protects the citizens of the United States from unreasonable searches and seizures. (U.S. Const. amend. IV). Over the course of history, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protecting the police officers from any liability. My focus will be on the good faith exception and the exigent circumstance. The Good Faith Exception First, the good faith exception protects law enforcement officers who had reasonable intentions, but made mistakes with their actions. The Supreme Court first introduced the good faith exception in United States v. Leon. The Court maintained that the exclusionary rule is not relevant in situation when police officers act with reasonable dependence on a search warrant that later proves to be invalid. ... • 38. Counselling Case Study by Silva Counselling case study Jayadeva de Silva.M.Sc, FIPM.FITD [pic] Let me introduce Bandara. Bandara has been working as the number two in a medium sized organization for ten years. It has always been intimated that when Jeremy his boss retires or leaves, Bandara will slip into the number one position and lead the organization. Barry has always had some clear ideas on how he is going to take the organization forward when Jeremy is not there; ideas that have not been taken up in the past. Life being perverse, it had been decided to advertise the job externally and guess what? A better candidate came up who has now been in post for three weeks. Bandera s new boss is a great guy, very friendly and supportive . . . but, he is not Barry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Counsellor: Bandara, if I were in your position, what would you advise me to do? Well done again counsellor. Getting an objective view on this. Bandara: Well that is simple. Think through the ideas you have always had, refine them and get them out of your head and onto paper (or a Word document). Not too long. Do not spend too much time on it and keep it very brief an overview. Arrange to see the new number one, preferably off site at a neutral venue, and tell him that you have always had these ideas but never shared then and you would now like to share them and if anything was that good, maybe the organization can adopt them. You will either get an acceptance, in which case you will achieve what you have always wanted or you will have a debate as to what can or cannot be adopted and you will have at least cleared the air for yourself. Counsellor: So Bandara what are you going to do? Bandara: Crafty you have got me to resolve my own dilemma. Clearly, I shall take my own advice and do just what I have recommended. Thanks sir. I have gone from tragic to magic as Walt Disney would say and it s all down to you. Thanks. Not crafty, just a great counselling session.
