The And Its Effects On Cell Function
(Windows to the Universe. 2014). If sufficient damage to DNA is achieved, chromosome
abnormalities may be noted, the damaged DNA can attempt to repair itself, sometimes forming
patterns dissimilar to its prior layout. Karaman et al (2005) describes the removal of one or more
nitrogenous bases within the DNA sequence as a deletion error. Substitution is explicated as an error
which occurs when one base pair is replaced by another and insertion is defined as an error which
arises as new base pairs are inserted into the DNA sequence. These mutations can result in either little
or serious effect which can result in the loss of cell function. Little clarifies that the harmful effects of
radiation can be allocated into two conventional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The radiosensitivity of proliferating cells varies with the phase of the cell cycle. (Pawlik and
Keyomarsi. 2004). Bergonie and Tribondeau (1906) proposed the theory that the radiosensitivity of a
cell is directly proportional to how metabolically and reproductively active the cell is and inversely
proportional to how specialized the cell is. Generally, Mitosis is considered to be the most
radiosensitive stage within the cell cycle with the S stage being the most radioresistant (Sun. 2000).
Mitosis is the division of a cell, involving the replication of DNA, this results in the cell nucleus
containing twice the amount of genetic material than beforehand (Marieb. 2015). The greater amount
of genetic material present in the nucleus during mitosis corresponds to the cell being more
radiosensitive as the genetic material is the most vulnerable area within the cell (Stanford. 2013). In
the statement given, Pearce et al. (2012) argues that children have a greater risk of developing cancer
due to the greater number of dividing cells and volume of red bone marrow being exposed to
significant ionising radiation exposures. This statement is comparable to the work of Brenner (2001)
who states that the expected lifetime radiation risk will be more significant in children due to a longer
lifetime expectancy, allowing a longer period for cancer to develop. Other interpretations such as
AGIR (2013) challenge this view by suggesting that the elderly are

Essay on Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est
Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est
Through poems with blazing guns, spurting blood, and screaming agony, Wilfred Owen justly
deserves the label, applied by critics, of war poet. Some critics, like W.B. Yeats who said, I consider
[Wilfred Owen] unworthy of the poets corner of a country news paper, (362) satisfy themselves with
this label and argue Owen lacked the artistic merit to be given much attention beyond it. However,
many other Owen critics like David Daiches interest themselves in trying to identify what unique
perspectives Owen s poems present and why those perspectives captivate so many people. Daiches
argues that Owen engages so many readers because he penetrates into the inner reality (363) of the
war experience. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was one reason for Roman hostility to them, as barbarians deserved repression. Their rituals were
performed in wooden shrines and in sanctuaries among the forests, with grotesque carved images of
gods. Victims were put to death by several methods. They were stabbed, or shot at with arrows, or
plunged head downwards into tubs full of water, or shut into huge wicker cages in human shape,
which were set alight. (123)
Also on druidic sacrifice, Peter Ellis writes in his book The Druids: On great occasions [. . .] after
plunging a dagger into him [the sacrificial man], they [the Druids] read the future from the manner of
his fall and the twitching of his limbs and the flow of blood (145). With these historical accounts in
hand it becomes possible to understand hidden archaic realities within Owen s text.
While it is understood that the poem recounts the activities of World War I soldiers moving under
orders near the front lines in France, the words used to describe this action evoke an image of a
strange, fearful, eerie, and occult procession moving with an attitude of helplessness akin to the
horrors which necessarily entrap the designated victims of a human sacrifice. These images of
imminent doom start in the first stanza and pervade the remainder of the poem.
Initially the poem demonstrates

Growing up in a Christian household, my brothers and I were always taught the golden rule; treat
people as you would like to be treated, as well as learning the value and benefit that comes from
always telling the truth, no matter what the consequences are. I have certainly maintained, to this day,
a great deal of the values and beliefs that were instilled in me at a young age. The values I learned
during upbringing has surely served me well and have been instrumental in shaping the person I am
today. However, several life experiences have also proved effective in molding beliefs in me that are
less desirable characteristics, in which I struggle with to change. One of my biggest gaps lies in the
ability to truly trust people and their motives. A comment from my manager on my last personal
development plan stated that I need to be more trusting of team members and people in the
organization. More often that not, I find life experiences reaffirming my hesitance to fully trust people,
which, in turn, makes it harder for me to change this undesirable

Dormant Commerce Clause Essay
Can you briefly explain what the dormant commerce clause is?
The negative commerce clause, also known as the dormant commerce clause is a doctrine established
by the U.S. Supreme Court, limiting individual states of the United States from passing legislation that
inappropriately discriminates against interstate commerce. The dormant commerce clause limits the
power of individual states to legislate on such matters and is not an express clause in the U.S.
Constitution (AMAR, K. 2007).
Why would dormant commerce clause apply to business?
The Dormant Commerce Clause is the belief that local and state laws are undemocratic if the state
places an unwarranted encumbrance on local commerce, moreover, even if Congress has not acted on
behalf of its commerce power it lies dormant (Chemerinsky, E., n.d.). An example would be, in the
case of C A Carbone, Inc. v. Town of Clarkstown, where the Court overturned an apparently alleged
town law that required all solid waste be treated at a privately ... Show more content on

However, this embargo in contrast to out of state discrimination does not prevent a state from
exercising its police power to protect state citizens, as long as the power is exercised evenly and
equally. For example, if a state wanted to weigh commercial vehicles on its highways to ensure they
did not exceed maximum weight, that feat would be permissible if the trucks came from out of state,
as long as the requirement applied equally to all trucks on that state s highways ( The Commerce,

Fall Choir Concert Analysis
I am not afraid to admit that I talk to my mother on the phone every day. Naturally, I told her that I
would be attending the Fall Choir Concert, and by reading her the selection of songs, I was not only
surprised by her own rendition of Rabbit of Seville, but she also sent me the video of Bugs Bunny
himself belting out the silly ditty. If one is not already aware, Rabbit of Seville, is a short animation bit
released by Warner Bros. In the scene, Bugs Bunny lures Elmer Fudd (everyone s favorite hunter with
a speech impediment) onto a stage. The curtains rise and he aggressively cuts Fudd s hair while
performing a mock melody from the overture of the opera buffa The Barber of Seville by Gioachino
Rossini. The clip reminded me of many Looney Tunes favorites from my childhood and I laughed just
as gleefully as I did back then. Before I knew it, my expectations for the concert had been set, and
boy, did the University Chorus, Chorale, and Montanans have a hard act to follow!
Prior to tonight, I had never been inside Reynolds Recital Hall let alone Howard Hall. On the night of
the concert, it was packed if not sold out. The stage was bathed in blue in the background the harsh
gels glared like a cloudless sky on a hot day. Center stage held a grand piano, but the intensity of the
blue light was not present. Instead, golden lights paled the light and set the mood of the stage as calm
and serene. Three different choirs crossed the stage and each brought wonderous sound, flawless

The Rise Of The American Revolution Essay
There have been many historians who have debated over the exact cause of the American Revolution.
The cause was certainly from conflict; the real question however is whether or not that conflict came
from the social classes within the United States or from the tyranny of Britain. Historians who are
more radical tend to believe it came from class conflict, while more conservative historians believe it
was rooted in the need for independence from Britain. It is true that England had a role to play in the
American Revolution, however the problems between the classes was the driving force. The radical
historians that view history from the bottom up shape the argument that the problems within the
United States is what brought the need for the revolution. One historian, Alfred Young wrote a couple
different essays giving much information about economic differences and the attitudes that were
adopted by the colonists at that time. How the difference in the class structure effected a shoemaker,
George Roberts Twelves Hughes, and how nervous and timid his initial meeting with John Hancock
was. However after being abused by those who thought themselves better he began to partake in the
revolution, this later changed his reactions to his betters to where he would not so much as tip his hat
to them. Young also discusses in another essay about the creation of the constitution, and the bargains
that the Founding Fathers had made in order to see it ratified. The elite s compromises

1. What changes does FTP make to an ASCII file when you download it in ASCII mode to a windows
machine from a Linux server? What changes are made when you download the file to a Mac?
Unix, Linux, etc uses only a line feed at the end of each line. So transferring to a Window will add a
carriage return to each line.
New Mac s are Linux based, transferring from a Linux to a Mac shouldn t change anything.
2. What happens if you transfer an executable program file in ASCII mode?
The file will be corrupted: Any bytes that match a NEWLINE will be altered, resulting in a program
that will not execute properly.

would fix it?
It can be a few different things, maybe the file was corrupted. It could also be the site where you
downloaded it from. It could be the different settings you have set for SFTP were not allowing you to

10. How would you configure vsftpd to run through xinetd, and what would be the main advantage of
this approach?
To configure vsftpd to run through xinetd, set listen=NO in
/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf, and create an xinetd configuration file for vsftpd in /etc/xinetd.d. This
configuration allows you to provide finer grained access control to the server.

Compare And Contrast The Interlopers And The Story Of An Hour
The Interlopers and The Story of an Hour are very different, but very similar at the same time.
Throughout the next paragraphs I will be comparing and contrasting the two stories. The Interlopers is
about two men who are sworn enemies and pass by each other in the forest while hunting, each
separated from their hunting parties. At first, they argue, but realize that it s useless to fight given their
positions, trapped under a tree. They soon reconcile, and see what appears to be one of their hunting
parties. As time passes, however, it becomes apparent that what is thought of a hunting party is
actually a pack of wolves and that death is inevitable. A Story of an Hour depicts Mrs. Mallard, who
has a heart condition, and is given the shocking news that her husband has died in a train accident. Her
sister gently breaks the news, and while Mrs. Mallard initially feels grief, gradually it turns to a
feeling of freedom. Soon after, she comes out of her room and down the stairs to see her husband walk
through the door, unharmed. When she sees him, Mrs. Mallard dies of a heart attack. The doctor says
that she died of the joy that kills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary similarity is the conflict. In both tales, there is a conflict between someone or someone or
something. In The Interlopers , the main conflict is the hostility between the two men, and the second
is man versus nature, referring to the helplessness of the men when trapped by the tree branch. The
Story of an Hour presents two examples of conflict as well. The external is between Mrs. Mallard and
her husband, and the internal is between freedom and marriage. Mrs. Mallard though

He believes that their is a possibility that people are needlessly dying for a war that doesn t make any
sense. This makes him an outsider in his hometown because the way that he views this war is vastly
different from his home town. Tim doesn t get the sense of pride in his country for joining the war like
his community does, and he asks questions about the war that he feels that his community won t ask
because of their patriotism, and viewing the war as something to be proud of. In mid June right before
the summer Tim got a draft notice, saying that he had to participate in the war. During that summer, he
worked at a meatpacking plant, taking out blood clots in dead pigs. Working there made him reek of
pig, and made it hard for him to get dates. While he worked at that job he effectively isolated himself
from everyone (175). Whether this isolation was intentional or not can be debated, because he was
already very conflicted with the draft notice that he got, so he could ve wanted to distance himself
from everyone, and smelling like dead pig will most likely do that. However, he still kept the job, even
after being isolated from his peers because of it, which shows that he wanted to be away from
everyone. He didn t have any interactions, and just chose to sulk by himself. This proves even more
that he is an outsider rather than insider because

Abstract:
It describes about the competitive strategies of a monopolistic market of a firm called United

utmost important to generate a product or the services so as to have a competitive advantage of a
particular firm over the another firm.In this essay I have recommended various strategies so the firm
can generate more revenue through the sale of products by following the particular strategies.
Competitive Strategy of an Organisation that operates in an Industry
Competitive strategy of an organisation involves generating a competitive advantage, increase the
loyalty of the customer and beat competitors. In short it can be said that it is a move to bring more
customers, retaining the competitive pressure and strengthen an organisation market s position.
There is a unique competitive balance between the firms in every industry. Some of the industry have
a single firm while the other have thousands of companies competing for the common product. These
composition constitute the market structure. Market structure is basically the number of competitive
firms producing the identical product.
For the present analysis of competitive strategy of an organisation, I have chosen organisation called

Literature Review On Special Needs
Literature Review
My action research project was influenced by the national push towards inclusion of children with
special needs into the general education classroom. Because our school was trying to adopt a co
teaching program, this was the area I did most of my research on. I found a multitude of studies that
supported co teaching and analyzed the effects of co teaching on students, teachers and parents. I then
researched the affects of a non inclusive environment on all students. After witnessing how my
students self esteem had plummeted due to their specific grouping, I was not surprised to find research
that supported the theory that students who are identified as having special needs will have lower self
esteem and self worth. In a study done on students with special needs, all of them reported thinking
they would be unable to attend mainstream classes because they did not feel they were successful
learners based on their placement in special education (Griffiths, 2007). This study also revealed the
children with special needs held fears that all adults would think of them as troublemakers because the
classes they were in held a high majority of children with behavior problems (Griffiths, 2007). This
study concentrates on students who attend schools for special needs. These students may feel more
isolated than those who receive special services inside a mainstream school, but those who are
evaluated or receive special education within a mainstream school show the

Privacy And Privacy Of National Security
Importance of Privacy and Acceptance of National Security The definition of the word privacy,
according to Dictionary.com is, The state of being apart from other people or concealed from their
view . The right to feel safe and secure is one that citizens are privileged to have. Although the
Government s use of spying techniques is an invasion of privacy some would argue that the positive
effects far outweigh the negative. The ability to increase security, prevent attacks, and provide safety
to citizens are just some of the positive effects of Government surveillance. Freedom of privacy comes
with being an American, but some citizens are not ready to give up that basic right for added
protection (Mullikin and Rahman). There has to be a balance of privacy for some and security for
others. There are many tools used by the Government to keep its citizens safe. One of the more talked
about and effective tools is wiretapping. The ultimate goal in wiretapping is to collect data on a
specific individual, usually someone that is a high risk suspect. A wiretap can be manually or digitally
placed, then the necessary data can be gathered. Although wiretapping has been around since the 1890
s it really gathered relevance in 2001 with the Bush administration (Mullikin and Rahman). On
September 11, 2001 there was a devastating terrorist attack against The United States, where 2,977
people lost their lives. As a result of this horrible terrorist attack the Government had to put more

Mark Twain is noted to be part of the realism movement in literature. Twain typically depicts his
literature to resemble everyday activities and experiences instead of the typical romanticized
presentation that included fairytales, and unrealistic events. Twain was very much aware of the two
traditions of American thought, realism, and romanticism (Erickson Huckleberry Finn| Realist vs.
romanticist 1960). Realism is a literary movement that came about in the middle of the 19th century.
This movement portrays real life circumstances with realistic characters and outcomes ( Realism

Twain makes sure that Tom and Huck differ so the strict separation of imagination and reality is
identified. Romantic engagement in a troubled world, can be very dangerous as seen in this novel.
When struggling with real world problems it is best to take a realistic approach, because when your
imagination take over, it can lead to an anticipation of an unrealistic outcome. Tom s imagination
demonstrate how he see life. His use of imagination helped him shape is own idea and understanding
Jim. They hain t no RIGHT to shut him up! Turn him loose! He ain t no slave; he s as free as any

imagination had led to dangerous or risky situations throughout the novel. For example, in the novel
Tom Sawyer got shot in the leg, because of his unrealistic plan that he created based off a novel he had
previously read. Another example is that Tom has some pretty intense ideas about friendship, he like
the idea that you have to swear your loyalty to your friends in blood Now, we ll start this band of

Overcoming Resistance to Change
BUS 610 Organizational Behavior
Overcoming Resistance
Resistance is a normal and a perfectly natural reaction to change. Each person has their own amount
they can take, but the reasons behind why employees resist in the first place may be surprising.
According to these experts, the fear of moving into an unknown future state creates anxiety and stress,
even if the current state is painful (Eroke, 2013). A complete understanding of the unique ways that
resistance can be apparent is still needed because resistance to change has been acknowledged as an
organizational difficulty for many years. If and when employees react to change in different ways, and
if discrepancies in response result in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once this survey is completed online, these scores are then developed into a daily, monthly, and
annual report that rates us on each department separately. A bad score decreases the points as a whole,
makes the entire team look bad to corporate, and bad reviews can be seen by anyone, which can keep
business from coming in and that will drop revenue. For some reason, we were not capable of securing
this position longer than a few weeks which then it was being taken care of by any of the staff or
management if they had a minute to help stock or clean it. This obviously is not going to be consistent
for guests, appears disorganized or short staffed, and is a dangerous health hazard if someone is not
taking temps every thirty minutes. Every single time someone did not show up to set up buffet, the
staff and management jumped in to help, but it was like pulling teeth to get anyone to step in and do
this job. Out of pure self interest each one of them would voice their opinion about how they do not
make enough to do someone else s job and it was not their job or they did not sign up for this.
Resistance is an inevitable response to any major change. Individuals naturally rush to defend the
status quo if they feel their security or status is threatened (Bolognese, 2002). I understand it is not
their faults that it kept getting abandoned, but I also know how to be reasonable and work as a team.

Air pollution in Mexico City As the vehicle population reached more than 700 million worldwide,
numerous cities experiencing rapid industrialization started to suffer from air pollution (Walsh, 1999).
The level of air pollution in any city is a global concern. The reason is that air can travel freely from
place to place; consequently, the polluted air from one city can travel to another. The polluted air has
numerous negative consequences for human health and also severely damages the ecosystem. Some of
the cities reduced the air pollution level; however there are still some that are considered to be the

What Is The First Cause Argument
The first cause argument is based on cause and effect, it attests that the universe must have a cause,
and that this cause is God. The first cause argument is also known as the cosmological argument. The
universe could not have come into being without something that started it. Therefore, this argument
does show that God exists. This essay will analyse the first cause argument, provide proof of why God
is shown that he exists by the first cause argument and, explore the objections and counter objections
that people have when it comes to this argument.
The first cause argument shows the existence of God through the statement that the universe must
have a cause and as result, it is impossible for there to be an infinite cycle of causes so therefore, God
exists because he is the first cause. The strength of this argument is that it indicates the need for
something in order for there to be a beginning, but why conclude that this Something is God? I

We have the gift of existence, and our existence was attained from our causes. If things and people
came into existence using their own nature without it being passed down to them through other people
there would be no need for a first cause but, people do not exist from their own nature which means
that they have a cause which goes to show that there is Indeed a first cause and that this cause must be
God. The universe only has beings that do not exist on their own essence, that are not eternal or
necessary, all beings in the universe need a cause. Beings that are not self explanatory, eternal or
necessary are called dependent or contingent. Furthermore, a being who is self explanatory is called a
necessary being. Dependent beings need causes. If the independent being does not exist, then all the
other dependent beings that rely on it will not exist. Dependent beings do exist and therefore an

The Importance Of Racial Diversity In High Schools
Literature Review
The racial climate at primarily white institutions has been widely publicized, especially as discussions
about political correctness in American society have increased. The University of Louisville was
criticized in 2015, when local news outlets publicized tensions present in the school s honors dorm
and the school s president, James Ramsey, faced backlash for donning a Mexican garb for Halloween
season festivities. The following literature review attempts to set a foundation for the discussion of
whether or not students are prepared to interact with students from racial backgrounds different from
their own, and whether or not students who have experienced discrimination in college expected to
when they chose the University of Louisville. High schools have recently made news for decades of
slow moving, but noticeable resegregation. Some communities have succeeded in producing lasting
integration, but others have been segregated by race, and often, income as well, leading to decreased
educational opportunity and achievement. More important to this study is the result that this
resegregation has had on the makeup of high schools many schools lack ample opportunity for
students to encounter classmates of different backgrounds. Resegregation has diluted the diversity at
high schools and left students unprepared for the potential increase in diversity they will experience in
college (Frankenberg). If minority students are discriminated against, it s

Escapism In The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier And Clay
Michael Chabon s recurring theme in The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier Clay is the notion of
escapism. Samuel Clay and Joe Kavalier both faced situations in their lifetime that initiated and
warranted means of escape, whether figuratively or literally. In fact, these events have shaped them
into the characters that they later develop into. Joe Kavalier, trained under a master Ausbrecher to
become an escape artist, develops the ability to prevail and escape from dangerous circumstances. In
addition to that, he escapes from reality of the Nazis s expansion and ubiquitous presence in Europe
by using his fictional comic character, the Escapist, to battle the Nazis on paper. Other forms of escape
that Joe Kavalier faced was escaping from death. One instance, was his escape from drowning during
his early days under the tutelage of Bernard Kornblum. Kavalier had requested his brother, Thomas, to
assist him by pushing him into the water while Joe of the River Moldau. Thomas and Joe essentially

The Complexity of Forest Fires Case in Indonesia: Exposure on Moral Dimension of the
Environmental Policy
I. Introduction and Problem Identification
Everyone is expected to do the right thing in a society that has a social awareness. The social
awareness includes moral behaviour, ethical behaviour and obey the rules. Forest and land fire is a
complex environmental problem in Indonesia. In the last 18 years since 1997/1998, forest and land
fires happen in every year in Indonesia. The problem is not only because of natural cause but also
human action cause. The human cause is from population growth that impacts to the increasing needs
of human life and pushes human action in utilizing nature intensively. Therefore as a consequence of
human action to the resource of consumption is a threatening to the sustainability of nature and to
human itself. Furthermore global climate change phenomenon as an impact of human action also has

The Short Story Of Marionettes, Inc. And The Murderer
Ray Bradbury was an American fantasy and horror author who rejected being categorized as a science
fiction author, claiming that his work was based on the fantastical and unreal ( Ray Bradbury
Biography.com). Ray Bradbury was unlike any other writer, he took science fiction and made it a real
genre in literature. The short stories Marionettes, Inc. and
The Murderer are just two of the many pieces he published. Marionettes, Inc. is a short story on two
men, Braling and Smith, who are having problems in their marriages and try to solve them through the
use of robots (technology). This turned out to be an awful idea because
Brailing Two (the robot) takes over Braling s life and locks him up in the basement and Smith finds

Similarly, the short story Marionettes, Inc. states Nettie!, Nettie! He cried. What ve you done with my

his fevered ear was resting firmly and irrevocably upon her round pink bosom. Nettie! he cried.
Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick (Bradbury 218). Ray Bradbury repeats the
word tick (onomatopoeia) to reveal that Smith s wife is actually a robot. The dictions
terror , loneliness and horrid prove that Smith was surprised and quite terrified to find out that his wife
was in fact a robot. Therefore, Ray Bradbury builds a unique voice in the short stories Marionettes,
Inc. and The Murderer through diction and figurative language.

Bycatch Research Paper
The term has been written by Simon Northridge. what is bycatch? It is the unfortunate event of marine
mammals getting caught and killed during fishing.most of the time, these mammals deaths were
completely unintentional by the fishermen but it regularly happens during fishing operations. Bycatch
is therefore incidental catches. No matter the fishing gear, they have all catched at least once,
unwanted marine mammals especially in greatly fished areas. Species like whales, porpoises and
others find their way into these gears but are unable to get out of them. A staggering 300, 000 marine
mammals are killed through bycatch. For many years, and to this day, bycatches of marine mammals
are seen as bonus and therefore used to sell for consumption. ... Show more content on

The issue with delphinids contrary to dolphins, once they are caught in purse seine nets with
yellowphin tuna, they cannot escape it and therefore die. Although this issue what happening as early
as in the 1950 s, it only started getting monitored in the 1970 s. for the many years when it was
happening, the annual mortalities were around 200 500, 000. Even with the new monitoring, many
dolphins are continuously being killed through this fishing technique. Thanks to dolphin safe labels
and movement, there has been great improvement on this practice. This improvement has led to a
reduction of dolphin mortalities to less than 1500 per year in 2004. Unfortunately, even with this
progress, dolphins and the other marine mammals affected are struggling to repopulate because of
how affected the species were from all the previous years but also since large scale captures are still
going on.
The discovery of the effect of the ETP tuna fishery on dolphins has opened the door to a realization
that other fisheries are killing several other marine mammals. The baji Lipotes vexillifer is now

extinction is caused by fishing lines; it is a long line of sharp hooks used for other fish but since it is

The Influence Of Voting In The United States Of America
The United States of America is one of the few countries that give its citizens a unique opportunity
and that is to vote. Many other countries give its citizens the right to vote, however America is
different due to the fact that its citizens vote for everything, from their local government to their
president. With power this great, it gives more reason to become and informed voter. Each state has
congressional districts that are made by the population. Each district has around 711,000 people. Each
district gets one representative in the House of Representatives. For example, Portland Connecticut is
part of the 1st congressional district in Connecticut. Their representative is John Larson. The 1st
congressional district of Connecticut spans over multiple counties including multiple major cities, and
example would be East and West Hartford, Hartford being the capital of Connecticut. Other cities
include Middletown and Manchester, all which are highly populated and the towns have large impacts
on Connecticut s economy.
John Larson
John Larson was born July 22, 1948 in Hartford, Connecticut. He went to Central Connecticut State
University. In 1999 he was elected into office as a representative for Connecticut s 1st congressional
district. In his position there is an election every 2 years. John Larson works in the House of
Representative, which is part of the legislative branch. Their job includes passing laws and originating
and spending bills. Larson has been constantly winning re election. During his election periods he gets
the majority of the votes when he is up against 2 3 competitors. Looking at voting past he has been
winning every reelection by at least around 60%. An important fact to note is that Larson is a
democrat.
The 1st congressional district
Undoubtedly, the 1st congressional district of Connecticut leans towards a democratic government.
This is based off of the fact that John Larson has been winning reelection since 1999 along with the
fact that he has won the majority of the votes for each reelection. Even before John Larson the past
few representatives have been democrats, for example Barbra B. Kennelly and William R. Cotter have
all been democrats. In fact, this district has been voting

Cultural Conflicts In Samuel Huntington s The Clash Of...
Samuel Huntington claims in his article The Clash of Civilizations? that the great divisions among
humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. Huntington defines civilization as a
cultural identity that can be as narrow a scope as within a village and as broad as a Westerner . He
argues that differences between civilizations will be the main source of conflict for six reasons: these
differences are deeply ingrained; these civilizations have more interactions with each other, promoting
a greater awareness of their differences; religious sects of society are returning to fundamentalism;
non Western civilizations are rejecting Western values and institutions; cultural differences are not as
easily resolved as ideological differences; and intraregional trade is increasing, which increases
cultural bonds between similar civilizations. He comes to these conclusions since these fundamental
cultural differences were forming organically for centuries if not millennia; These dissimilarities are
more prevalent today due to technology drawing the world closer together and forcing the contrasts to
light. Fundamentalist movements are prevalent in many major religions of the world and are
transcending national boundaries and [uniting] civilizations ; The union of ethnic groups across
nations for movements such as re Islamification emphasizes this effect. These differences are not
easily compromised as some cultural norms explicitly forbid

Ralph Waldo Emerson Self Reliance
In Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay Self Reliance, Emerson discusses the perception of self reliance. Self
reliance to Emerson is a concept of trusting personal thoughts and knowledge opposed to agreeing and
submitting to the preconceived notions already forced upon individuals within a society. Even though
personal beliefs and thoughts can be swayed and influenced by outside forces if one choses to listen to
superficial thoughts, I agree with Emerson that the concept of believing in personal truths is necessary
to maintain the truth and to become more self aware. As individuals rely more on their own personal
beliefs and truths, their understanding of knowledge and happiness can be furthered, by decreasing
their dependence on what other s claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
but I shall obey God rather than you, and while I have life and strength I shall never cease from the

firm in believing his own personal convictions and dogmas which derived from his own mind, rather
than succeeding to the government s will and listening to the single voice of the majority. Socrates
explains further that knowledge is the truth and he will continue to pursue the truth so as not to allow
the truth to become stagnant and overused as it would be if he did not question his life further.
Socrates exemplifies the model of self reliance through his decision to not only disregard the notions
of society but also in his decision to believe his own ideas and conceptions of what the truth is.
Socrates relies purely on his own personal thoughts. This concept is important because so often
humankind ignores that feeling or conviction deep within themselves. Emerson and Socrates both
strongly argue that in order to fully comprehend what truth and knowledge are, you absolutely must
fully commit yourself to the beliefs within you. Self reliance not only allows for a deeper connection
with the truth and knowledge, but also allows humankind to increase critical examinations of current

Through a close reading of the selected passage of Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre: An Autobiography, a
reader can see that Jane attempts to separate herself from her decisions by personifying her emotions
and giving them a specific voice, which strongly reflects the societal views of the time. At this point in
the story, Jane has discovered, on her wedding day, that Mr. Rochester is still married to a woman
named Bertha, and that woman still lives in his house. Distraught, Jane locks herself in her room and
tries to decide what she should do. When she wakes up the next day, she is again confronted with what

proven by the personification of Jane s two strongest rivaling emotions. The heavy influence of a
patriarchal dominated society is evident in her Conscience being a strong male figure, whereas her
Passion is a weaker, feminine figure. Similarly, the strongest reasoning for Jane to leave Thornfield is
driven by the patriarchal demand for a female to remain pure until holy marriage, rather than Jane s

Drugs have been used for hundreds of years for medical, religious, and psychotherapy purposes. As
psychoactive drugs became more popularly used for recreational use and were being introduced in

Subject: What should US policy towards military assistance to Taiwan be?
Historical Background: Taiwan, otherwise known as the Republic of China (ROC), has a complicated
political status on the world stage. The People s Republic of China (PRC) lays territorial claims to
Taiwan and most countries recognize China as the mainland as Taiwan as an autonomous region
within it. However, Taiwan sees itself independent as the true government of China, but only a couple
dozen countries recognize it as sovereign government and by technical definition of what constitutes
as a sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention of 1933, Taiwan fits the criteria.1 Though

Both economic and security threats are culminated in a general consensus that weapons trade between
both countries includes only defensive weapons.5 In 1994, the policy towards Taiwan was reviewed,
however no changes were made to the arms sales policy.6 The military assistance the US provides
Taiwan with, despite being defensive in nature, is still a source of consternation to the PRC and is a
problem for its relations with both Taiwan and the US.
Significance:
Military assistance to Taiwan is essential for Taiwan s sense of security, but it is also a source of
friction with US relations with the PRC. Selling Taiwan an amount of weapons that the PRC considers
excessive may lead to increased tensions between both the US and the PRC. Under the TRA, the US
still has a degree of obligation in ensuring Taiwanese security. It deems that if US assistance is
necessary to maintain peace in the Western Pacific and if Taiwan is forced to make a decision
regarding its statehood under non peaceful means the US will intervene in Taiwan s affairs. Currently,
this is limited to selling defensive weapons, but not providing further military assistance or performing
joint drills like those performed in South Korea.
Positive trilateral relations are essential for US economic interests. By maintaining positive

Analysis Of The Book His Work Memorabilia
Introduction:
In the first book of his work Memorabilia, Xenophon begins by implicitly claiming that he will
provide an evaluative account of the persuasiveness of the charges laid against Socrates. Hence, to the
extent that the Memorabilia claims to offer a defensive approach towards Socrates, this work bears a
line of continuity with Xenophon s Apology of Socrates to the Jury. The Memorabilia, however, offers
a break with the Apology in terms of the method it employs in delivering the Socratic exoneration; it
is not a work that provides this exoneration by providing its readers with an evaluation of the Socratic
defense, against the charges of impiety and corruption of the youth. It is a work, rather, that delivers
the Socratic exoneration by placing the rationale that has informed the construction of these very
charges, under Xenophon s dialectical and rhetorical scrutiny.
This paper will show how Xenophon s refutation of the corruption charges rests on two simultaneous
and premises, as made evident by the inclusion of the exchange between Alcibiades and Pericles.
Initially, this refutation premises itself on dissociating Socrates from Alcibiades. Secondarily,
however, Xenophon s refutation premises itself on evaluating the ambiguities that exist in the
antithetical relationship, between on the one hand the arguments made by an accuser that all too
readily signifies Socratic pedagogical praxis with having an absolute corrosive influence; and, on the
other hand, the

policies be let go. The repeal was ineffective due to the neutral effect it has had on military life, whilst
bringing to light more issues that need to be resolved before achieving the desired result. On January
29, 1993, President Clinton signed a memorandum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the concerns raised are confidentiality concerns, chaplain ministrations, unequal rights
(heterosexual partners versus homosexual partners), sexuality laws, anti gay discrimination and
harassment, implications of no segregation, and travel issues. The issues that the National Defense
Research Institute found in their focus groups were similar to what was seen years after the repeal;
issues of risk of blackmail, damage to personal relationships, stress and anxiety, and mental health (p.
xxiv) in 2010 are seen in 2015 with a survey conducted by Sarah Mount concerning lesbian issues of
receiving mental health services, with concerns of confidentiality, fear of reprimand, and that the
military culture is slow to catch up to policy

Fresh Connections
I am going to conduct a 5 forces analysis of the industry Fresh Connections is involved in, that is to
say the fresh food industry. These forces help us to analyse everything from the intensity of
competition to the profitability and attractiveness of the industry. We are going to use this model to
better understand the industry in which Fresh Connections operates. So, the five forces are rivalry,
buyer power, supplier power, barriers to entry and threat of substitutes.
1) The rivalry among competing sellers
First and foremost, competitive rivalry describes the intensity of competition between existing firms in
an industry. In the fresh food industry, the intensity of rivalry is influenced by different characteristics.

Switching to another competitive product is simple for them because of the competition in the U.S.
food industry. On the other hand, quality and research and development are very important for buyers
like restaurants, and Fresh Connections tries to focus its efforts on this particular segment. There is
significant buyer switching cost because these products are not standardized and buyer cannot easily
switch to an other product. They will have to pay again for development costs to switch the products.
Besides, buyers are quite powerful insofar as substitutes are available, there is good buyer
information, but fresh products are highly differentiated.
3) Competitive pressures stemming from supplier bargaining power and supplier seller collaboration
The supplier power is how much pressure suppliers can place on the business. The fresh food industry
requires raw materials and suppliers. Suppliers, if powerful, can exert an influence on the industry,
such as selling raw materials at a higher price to capture some of the industry s profit. In our industry,
bigger the firms are, more they can negotiate prices with their suppliers. So, it depends on the firm
size but also on its experience and the brand reputation. Moreover, suppliers are not very concentrated.
Firms need many different raw materials like vegetables, fruits, cheeses and meats. They do not have
just one supplier. In this sense, suppliers are not powerful but it tends to reduce volumes.

Frankenstein vs. Bladerunner
As society changes around us, we spot things we never noticed before: high divorce rates, murder
rates, and drug use just to name a few. James Riddley Scott and Mary Shelley noticed and had a fear
of child abandonment. In Frankenstein, Shelley explores this subject through the viewpoint of a man,
Victor, who creates a child so hideous that he cannot bear to look at it, and consequently deserts it. In
Blade Runner Scott explores this matter through a businessman, Tyrell, who makes replicants of
humans, the Nexus 6, gives them only four years to live, and sells them as slaves. The children of
these creators turn out to be smarter and more human than expected, and revolt against the way
society treats them, giving us all a lesson in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Blade Runner, Roy befriends J.F. Sebastian, a geneticist that happily states, gI create my own
friends.h After Sebastian has smuggled Roy into the Tyrell bedroom, and Roy has convinced himself
that Tyrell can be of no use to him, he kills both of them. This type of despair that Roy shows us is
significant because it portrays his anger toward his creator, who has neglected him since his
conception. The created beings in these tales become smarter than expected, and soon realize that they
have been mistreated. Victorfs monster is smart enough to understand that he has been discarded,
and children that have been abandoned can easily become devilish in nature. The monster pleads again
and again with his audience that he was born good, but compelled by others to do evil. He even argues
that if only one person would have been nice to him, he would have changed his ways when he says,
gIf any being felt emotions of benevolence towards me, I should return them an hundred and an
hundredfold; for that one creatures sake, I would make peace with the whole kind!h (105). The
monster is put in a place that makes him angry with all of society, and this makes him put very little
value on human life. Likewise, the Nexus 6 have little regard for the humans that have made them
slaves. Human life to these robot like creatures is nothing, because human society has put such little
emotional value on the replicants as a race. The mindset of these

Samuel Colt and the Colt Revolver Essay
The Wild West is known for its cowboys and gunslingers. In the Wild West the pistol was an important
piece of equipment. Samuel Colt played an important part in the Wild West because of the invention
of the Colt Revolver. Samuel Colt was born on July 19, 1814 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was one of
eight children. As a young boy Samuel Colt s principle interest was guns and machinery. His father,
Christopher Colt, was a textile manufacturer and was married to Sarah Coldwell Colt
( Samuel Colt ). Samuel Colt s parents lived there in Hartford until their death.
Sam Colt at the age of 16 attended the Amherst Academy in Massachusetts and was eventually
expelled from it for his behavior. After he was expelled from the Amherst ... Show more content on

So the raft drifted away from the mine so when Colt set off the mine it blew mud and water all over
the viewers. This did not make the men happy. Three of the men came over and Colt was about to be
thrown into the river when a young man by the name of Elisha K. Root came and stopped them. This
man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers
(Peterson 209). In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap and ball pistol with a
revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading (Silva). After finally getting the
patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he
built a giant new factory where he started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models
of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The
Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired
hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the
biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The
United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt s revolvers were used in the
Mexican war. After the massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands
charged the Mexicans shouting remember the Alamo .(Silva

Essay On Being A Stage Manager
Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York, however
her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is between adventures as she so cheerfully put it.
However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and the hardest part was
keeping the actors safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks and hooves which made it
difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part was learning the text and
material, because this show was about psychology so she had to research to fully understand the
production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well during the show. However, her
director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The longest she has been without work will be 4 months, which would be from this November to
February 2018. Although she is on the board for Actors Equity Association and is a part of 10
committees she does not need a retail job while she is between jobs. She thinks if you cannot go a few
weeks or even months with our having a job than this is not a business you should be in. Ruth s advice
simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said this, there is influx
of stage managers and an outflow of jobs . If you find out when you start you are not good, do not do
this as your job. And lastly if you choose to do this you have to be able to want to stage manage
anything. After talking to Ruth, it was put into perspective that I cannot have any doubts about being a
stage manager. My last interview was with a Halloween Horror Nights stage manager, Madalyn
Musser. Madalyn was an assistant stage manager on the Bill and Ted Show at Halloween Horror
Nights this past season. She also oversees certain sections of entertainment for holiday events at
Universal. She said the hardest part of working at Universal as a whole is the politics. The
environment is very competitive, you always have to do your best to be put on another event. The
easiest part is making great connections, because the more shows you work the more people will
recognize you. Madalyn, along with every other stage

Case Brief
I: Elements of the crime
Mr. Jeffrey Skilling was one of three executives at Enron Corporation that were indicted for
manipulating financials to show the public inflated numbers about Enron s profitability. By showing
these numbers to the public they were trying to mislead the public into thinking the company was
more profitable than it really was. Mr. Jeffrey Skilling was convicted by a Texas federal district court
of conspiracy, securities fraud, making false representations to auditors, and insider trading. Mr.
Skilling had been the C.E.O. of Enron Corp. Mr. Skilling appealed, he argued he was prosecuted by
the government under an invalid legal theory and that the jury he had was biased.

Mr. Skilling had been the C.E.O. of Enron Corp. Mr. Skilling appealed, he argued he was prosecuted
by the government under an invalid legal theory and that the jury he had was biased.
III. Issues
Mr. Skilling argued that voir dire lasted only five hours and did not sufficiently question jurors. This
argument from Mr. Skilling failed because the record from the court showed that voir dire was
completed properly. Mr. Skilling also argued that the court should have never tried him in Houston.
Mr. Skilling pointed out prior cases where the Court decided that due to extreme media coverage there
was a possibility of juror prejudice that required the courts to change the venue. However, I believe
that Mr. Skilling s case differs from these prior cases which were all in small communities, had media
coverage that showed the defendant confessions, and trials that occurred right after the crime and
media coverage.
I also believe that Skilling s jury acquitted him of several charges, due to this face I believe that it is
very unlikely that there was any juror prejudice. Even though the media coverage of Skilling seems to
all be positive, I do not believe that it was not to the necessary level to show that there would be juror
prejudice. Due to all of these reasons, I do not believe that the district court made any errors by
denying Skilling s request for a venue change.
IV. Holding (the final decision)
Mr. Skilling moved to have his trial transferred

Personal Narrative-Blinding
Ann Marie awoke, which was odd, because she thought that she had killed herself. She opened her
eyes, closing them again quickly when she saw a bright light. She sighed, it was probably a dream she
had. But as she went to go stand up she felt a heavy feeling of, what felt like weights, on her back. She
looked at her back and she gasped, she had wings on her back! She really did use the razor blade, but
she got sent to heaven apparently... She tried to walk on her own, but her wings kept weighing her
down and she could not keep herself standing upright. She didn t even know how to use her wings!
Ann Marie stayed on the ground, unsure of what to do with herself, considering she was alone again,
she thought she would be happy. But now, she suddenly felt lonely, and even sadder than she usually
felt before. An overwhelming feeling of depression hit her, nothing like she had ever felt ... Show

if she wasn t already dead. There were other angels flying around the school, some of them wearing
sunglasses, Ann Marie assumed it was because of the way the light reflected off the white surfaces.
Ryan released his hold on Ann Marie, and waved over to one angel who landed a few feet away. She
had long straight black hair, pulled over her right shoulder, a beanie covering the top of her head.
Moments later, two other boys landed on either side of her, making her small stature stick out even
more. She walked over, giving a small salute up to Ryan, causing him to smile.
Elizabeth, long time no see. He put her into a gentle chokehold, and ruffled her hair through her
beanie. She struggled, pushing against his chest using her wings, as her lackeys snickered behind
them. Elizabeth, why are you so small? Hanna asked, walking around behind them and hitting Ryan
over the head, causing him to flinch and loosen his grip around Elizabeth s neck, allowing her to

  • 2. The And Its Effects On Cell Function (Windows to the Universe. 2014). If sufficient damage to DNA is achieved, chromosome abnormalities may be noted, the damaged DNA can attempt to repair itself, sometimes forming patterns dissimilar to its prior layout. Karaman et al (2005) describes the removal of one or more nitrogenous bases within the DNA sequence as a deletion error. Substitution is explicated as an error which occurs when one base pair is replaced by another and insertion is defined as an error which arises as new base pairs are inserted into the DNA sequence. These mutations can result in either little or serious effect which can result in the loss of cell function. Little clarifies that the harmful effects of radiation can be allocated into two conventional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The radiosensitivity of proliferating cells varies with the phase of the cell cycle. (Pawlik and Keyomarsi. 2004). Bergonie and Tribondeau (1906) proposed the theory that the radiosensitivity of a cell is directly proportional to how metabolically and reproductively active the cell is and inversely proportional to how specialized the cell is. Generally, Mitosis is considered to be the most radiosensitive stage within the cell cycle with the S stage being the most radioresistant (Sun. 2000). Mitosis is the division of a cell, involving the replication of DNA, this results in the cell nucleus containing twice the amount of genetic material than beforehand (Marieb. 2015). The greater amount of genetic material present in the nucleus during mitosis corresponds to the cell being more radiosensitive as the genetic material is the most vulnerable area within the cell (Stanford. 2013). In the statement given, Pearce et al. (2012) argues that children have a greater risk of developing cancer due to the greater number of dividing cells and volume of red bone marrow being exposed to significant ionising radiation exposures. This statement is comparable to the work of Brenner (2001) who states that the expected lifetime radiation risk will be more significant in children due to a longer lifetime expectancy, allowing a longer period for cancer to develop. Other interpretations such as AGIR (2013) challenge this view by suggesting that the elderly are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est Through poems with blazing guns, spurting blood, and screaming agony, Wilfred Owen justly deserves the label, applied by critics, of war poet. Some critics, like W.B. Yeats who said, I consider [Wilfred Owen] unworthy of the poets corner of a country news paper, (362) satisfy themselves with this label and argue Owen lacked the artistic merit to be given much attention beyond it. However, many other Owen critics like David Daiches interest themselves in trying to identify what unique perspectives Owen s poems present and why those perspectives captivate so many people. Daiches argues that Owen engages so many readers because he penetrates into the inner reality (363) of the war experience. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was one reason for Roman hostility to them, as barbarians deserved repression. Their rituals were performed in wooden shrines and in sanctuaries among the forests, with grotesque carved images of gods. Victims were put to death by several methods. They were stabbed, or shot at with arrows, or plunged head downwards into tubs full of water, or shut into huge wicker cages in human shape, which were set alight. (123) Also on druidic sacrifice, Peter Ellis writes in his book The Druids: On great occasions [. . .] after plunging a dagger into him [the sacrificial man], they [the Druids] read the future from the manner of his fall and the twitching of his limbs and the flow of blood (145). With these historical accounts in hand it becomes possible to understand hidden archaic realities within Owen s text. While it is understood that the poem recounts the activities of World War I soldiers moving under orders near the front lines in France, the words used to describe this action evoke an image of a strange, fearful, eerie, and occult procession moving with an attitude of helplessness akin to the horrors which necessarily entrap the designated victims of a human sacrifice. These images of imminent doom start in the first stanza and pervade the remainder of the poem. Initially the poem demonstrates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing up in a Christian household, my brothers and I were always taught the golden rule; treat people as you would like to be treated, as well as learning the value and benefit that comes from always telling the truth, no matter what the consequences are. I have certainly maintained, to this day, a great deal of the values and beliefs that were instilled in me at a young age. The values I learned during upbringing has surely served me well and have been instrumental in shaping the person I am today. However, several life experiences have also proved effective in molding beliefs in me that are less desirable characteristics, in which I struggle with to change. One of my biggest gaps lies in the ability to truly trust people and their motives. A comment from my manager on my last personal development plan stated that I need to be more trusting of team members and people in the organization. More often that not, I find life experiences reaffirming my hesitance to fully trust people, which, in turn, makes it harder for me to change this undesirable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dormant Commerce Clause Essay Can you briefly explain what the dormant commerce clause is? The negative commerce clause, also known as the dormant commerce clause is a doctrine established by the U.S. Supreme Court, limiting individual states of the United States from passing legislation that inappropriately discriminates against interstate commerce. The dormant commerce clause limits the power of individual states to legislate on such matters and is not an express clause in the U.S. Constitution (AMAR, K. 2007). Why would dormant commerce clause apply to business? The Dormant Commerce Clause is the belief that local and state laws are undemocratic if the state places an unwarranted encumbrance on local commerce, moreover, even if Congress has not acted on behalf of its commerce power it lies dormant (Chemerinsky, E., n.d.). An example would be, in the case of C A Carbone, Inc. v. Town of Clarkstown, where the Court overturned an apparently alleged town law that required all solid waste be treated at a privately ... However, this embargo in contrast to out of state discrimination does not prevent a state from exercising its police power to protect state citizens, as long as the power is exercised evenly and equally. • 6. Fall Choir Concert Analysis I am not afraid to admit that I talk to my mother on the phone every day. Naturally, I told her that I would be attending the Fall Choir Concert, and by reading her the selection of songs, I was not only surprised by her own rendition of Rabbit of Seville, but she also sent me the video of Bugs Bunny himself belting out the silly ditty. If one is not already aware, Rabbit of Seville, is a short animation bit released by Warner Bros. In the scene, Bugs Bunny lures Elmer Fudd (everyone s favorite hunter with a speech impediment) onto a stage. The curtains rise and he aggressively cuts Fudd s hair while performing a mock melody from the overture of the opera buffa The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini. The clip reminded me of many Looney Tunes favorites from my childhood and I laughed just as gleefully as I did back then. Before I knew it, my expectations for the concert had been set, and boy, did the University Chorus, Chorale, and Montanans have a hard act to follow! Prior to tonight, I had never been inside Reynolds Recital Hall let alone Howard Hall. On the night of the concert, it was packed if not sold out. The stage was bathed in blue in the background the harsh gels glared like a cloudless sky on a hot day. Center stage held a grand piano, but the intensity of the blue light was not present. Instead, golden lights paled the light and set the mood of the stage as calm and serene. Three different choirs crossed the stage and each brought wonderous sound, flawless ... • 7. The Rise Of The American Revolution Essay There have been many historians who have debated over the exact cause of the American Revolution. The cause was certainly from conflict; the real question however is whether or not that conflict came from the social classes within the United States or from the tyranny of Britain. Historians who are more radical tend to believe it came from class conflict, while more conservative historians believe it was rooted in the need for independence from Britain. It is true that England had a role to play in the American Revolution, however the problems between the classes was the driving force. The radical historians that view history from the bottom up shape the argument that the problems within the United States is what brought the need for the revolution. One historian, Alfred Young wrote a couple different essays giving much information about economic differences and the attitudes that were adopted by the colonists at that time. How the difference in the class structure effected a shoemaker, George Roberts Twelves Hughes, and how nervous and timid his initial meeting with John Hancock was. However after being abused by those who thought themselves better he began to partake in the revolution, this later changed his reactions to his betters to where he would not so much as tip his hat to them. Young also discusses in another essay about the creation of the constitution, and the bargains that the Founding Fathers had made in order to see it ratified. The elite s compromises ... • 10. Compare And Contrast The Interlopers And The Story Of An Hour The Interlopers and The Story of an Hour are very different, but very similar at the same time. Throughout the next paragraphs I will be comparing and contrasting the two stories. The Interlopers is about two men who are sworn enemies and pass by each other in the forest while hunting, each separated from their hunting parties. At first, they argue, but realize that it s useless to fight given their positions, trapped under a tree. They soon reconcile, and see what appears to be one of their hunting parties. As time passes, however, it becomes apparent that what is thought of a hunting party is actually a pack of wolves and that death is inevitable. A Story of an Hour depicts Mrs. Mallard, who has a heart condition, and is given the shocking news that her husband has died in a train accident. Her sister gently breaks the news, and while Mrs. Mallard initially feels grief, gradually it turns to a feeling of freedom. Soon after, she comes out of her room and down the stairs to see her husband walk through the door, unharmed. When she sees him, Mrs. Mallard dies of a heart attack. The doctor says that she died of the joy that kills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The primary similarity is the conflict. In both tales, there is a conflict between someone or someone or something. The Story of an Hour presents two examples of conflict as well. The external is between Mrs. Mallard and her husband, and the internal is between freedom and marriage. Mrs. Mallard though ... He believes that their is a possibility that people are needlessly dying for a war that doesn t make any sense. This makes him an outsider in his hometown because the way that he views this war is vastly different from his home town. In mid June right before the summer Tim got a draft notice, saying that he had to participate in the war. During that summer, he worked at a meatpacking plant, taking out blood clots in dead pigs. Working there made him reek of pig, and made it hard for him to get dates. While he worked at that job he effectively isolated himself from everyone (175). Whether this isolation was intentional or not can be debated, because he was already very conflicted with the draft notice that he got, so he could ve wanted to distance himself from everyone, and smelling like dead pig will most likely do that. However, he still kept the job, even after being isolated from his peers because of it, which shows that he wanted to be away from everyone. • 15. Literature Review On Special Needs Literature Review My action research project was influenced by the national push towards inclusion of children with special needs into the general education classroom. Because our school was trying to adopt a co teaching program, this was the area I did most of my research on. I found a multitude of studies that supported co teaching and analyzed the effects of co teaching on students, teachers and parents. I then researched the affects of a non inclusive environment on all students. After witnessing how my students self esteem had plummeted due to their specific grouping, I was not surprised to find research that supported the theory that students who are identified as having special needs will have lower self esteem and self worth. In a study done on students with special needs, all of them reported thinking they would be unable to attend mainstream classes because they did not feel they were successful learners based on their placement in special education (Griffiths, 2007). This study also revealed the children with special needs held fears that all adults would think of them as troublemakers because the classes they were in held a high majority of children with behavior problems (Griffiths, 2007). This study concentrates on students who attend schools for special needs. These students may feel more isolated than those who receive special services inside a mainstream school, but those who are evaluated or receive special education within a mainstream school show the ... • 16. Privacy And Privacy Of National Security Importance of Privacy and Acceptance of National Security The definition of the word privacy, according to Dictionary.com is, The state of being apart from other people or concealed from their view . The right to feel safe and secure is one that citizens are privileged to have. Although the Government s use of spying techniques is an invasion of privacy some would argue that the positive effects far outweigh the negative. The ability to increase security, prevent attacks, and provide safety to citizens are just some of the positive effects of Government surveillance. Freedom of privacy comes with being an American, but some citizens are not ready to give up that basic right for added protection (Mullikin and Rahman). There has to be a balance of privacy for some and security for others. There are many tools used by the Government to keep its citizens safe. One of the more talked about and effective tools is wiretapping. The ultimate goal in wiretapping is to collect data on a specific individual, usually someone that is a high risk suspect. A wiretap can be manually or digitally placed, then the necessary data can be gathered. Although wiretapping has been around since the 1890 s it really gathered relevance in 2001 with the Bush administration (Mullikin and Rahman). Twain typically depicts his literature to resemble everyday activities and experiences instead of the typical romanticized presentation that included fairytales, and unrealistic events. Twain was very much aware of the two traditions of American thought, realism, and romanticism (Erickson Huckleberry Finn| Realist vs. romanticist 1960). Realism is a literary movement that came about in the middle of the 19th century. This movement portrays real life circumstances with realistic characters and outcomes ( Realism Characteristics 2008). Romanticism is an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that ... Each person has their own amount they can take, but the reasons behind why employees resist in the first place may be surprising. • 20. What Is The First Cause Argument The first cause argument is based on cause and effect, it attests that the universe must have a cause, and that this cause is God. The first cause argument is also known as the cosmological argument. The universe could not have come into being without something that started it. Therefore, this argument does show that God exists. This essay will analyse the first cause argument, provide proof of why God is shown that he exists by the first cause argument and, explore the objections and counter objections that people have when it comes to this argument. The first cause argument shows the existence of God through the statement that the universe must have a cause and as result, it is impossible for there to be an infinite cycle of causes so therefore, God exists because he is the first cause. The strength of this argument is that it indicates the need for something in order for there to be a beginning, but why conclude that this Something is God? I conclude that this ... If things and people came into existence using their own nature without it being passed down to them through other people there would be no need for a first cause but, people do not exist from their own nature which means that they have a cause which goes to show that there is Indeed a first cause and that this cause must be God. The universe only has beings that do not exist on their own essence, that are not eternal or necessary, all beings in the universe need a cause. Beings that are not self explanatory, eternal or necessary are called dependent or contingent. Furthermore, a being who is self explanatory is called a necessary being. Dependent beings need causes. The Importance Of Racial Diversity In High Schools Literature Review The racial climate at primarily white institutions has been widely publicized, especially as discussions about political correctness in American society have increased. The University of Louisville was criticized in 2015, when local news outlets publicized tensions present in the school s honors dorm and the school s president, James Ramsey, faced backlash for donning a Mexican garb for Halloween season festivities. The following literature review attempts to set a foundation for the discussion of whether or not students are prepared to interact with students from racial backgrounds different from their own, and whether or not students who have experienced discrimination in college expected to when they chose the University of Louisville. High schools have recently made news for decades of slow moving, but noticeable resegregation. Some communities have succeeded in producing lasting integration, but others have been segregated by race, and often, income as well, leading to decreased educational opportunity and achievement. More important to this study is the result that this resegregation has had on the makeup of high schools many schools lack ample opportunity for students to encounter classmates of different backgrounds. Resegregation has diluted the diversity at high schools and left students unprepared for the potential increase in diversity they will experience in college (Frankenberg). Samuel Huntington claims in his article The Clash of Civilizations? that the great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. Huntington defines civilization as a cultural identity that can be as narrow a scope as within a village and as broad as a Westerner . He argues that differences between civilizations will be the main source of conflict for six reasons: these differences are deeply ingrained; these civilizations have more interactions with each other, promoting a greater awareness of their differences; religious sects of society are returning to fundamentalism; non Western civilizations are rejecting Western values and institutions; cultural differences are not as easily resolved as ideological differences; and intraregional trade is increasing, which increases cultural bonds between similar civilizations. He comes to these conclusions since these fundamental cultural differences were forming organically for centuries if not millennia; These dissimilarities are more prevalent today due to technology drawing the world closer together and forcing the contrasts to light. Fundamentalist movements are prevalent in many major religions of the world and are transcending national boundaries and [uniting] civilizations ; The union of ethnic groups across nations for movements such as re Islamification emphasizes this effect. Not only was control of these substances desired but they needed a classification system to properly implement laws and punishments for the abuse of drugs. The effects of drugs differ in effects on the brain, mood, behavior, dependency, and criminal participation. In other words, some drugs are more dangerous than others and should have maximum security (Bonnie, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay on Taiwan Policy Memo Maria Serpas PSCI 356 Dr. Kramer March 19, 2015 Subject: What should US policy towards military assistance to Taiwan be? Historical Background: Taiwan, otherwise known as the Republic of China (ROC), has a complicated political status on the world stage. The People s Republic of China (PRC) lays territorial claims to Taiwan and most countries recognize China as the mainland as Taiwan as an autonomous region within it. However, Taiwan sees itself independent as the true government of China, but only a couple dozen countries recognize it as sovereign government and by technical definition of what constitutes as a sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention of 1933, Taiwan fits the criteria.1 Though before 1971, both countries laid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both economic and security threats are culminated in a general consensus that weapons trade between both countries includes only defensive weapons.5 In 1994, the policy towards Taiwan was reviewed, however no changes were made to the arms sales policy.6 The military assistance the US provides Taiwan with, despite being defensive in nature, is still a source of consternation to the PRC and is a problem for its relations with both Taiwan and the US. Significance: Military assistance to Taiwan is essential for Taiwan s sense of security, but it is also a source of friction with US relations with the PRC. Selling Taiwan an amount of weapons that the PRC considers excessive may lead to increased tensions between both the US and the PRC. Under the TRA, the US still has a degree of obligation in ensuring Taiwanese security. It deems that if US assistance is necessary to maintain peace in the Western Pacific and if Taiwan is forced to make a decision regarding its statehood under non peaceful means the US will intervene in Taiwan s affairs. Currently, this is limited to selling defensive weapons, but not providing further military assistance or performing joint drills like those performed in South Korea. Positive trilateral relations are essential for US economic interests. By maintaining positive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis Of The Book His Work Memorabilia Introduction: In the first book of his work Memorabilia, Xenophon begins by implicitly claiming that he will provide an evaluative account of the persuasiveness of the charges laid against Socrates. Hence, to the extent that the Memorabilia claims to offer a defensive approach towards Socrates, this work bears a line of continuity with Xenophon s Apology of Socrates to the Jury. The Memorabilia, however, offers a break with the Apology in terms of the method it employs in delivering the Socratic exoneration; it is not a work that provides this exoneration by providing its readers with an evaluation of the Socratic defense, against the charges of impiety and corruption of the youth. It is a work, rather, that delivers the Socratic exoneration by placing the rationale that has informed the construction of these very charges, under Xenophon s dialectical and rhetorical scrutiny. This paper will show how Xenophon s refutation of the corruption charges rests on two simultaneous and premises, as made evident by the inclusion of the exchange between Alcibiades and Pericles. Initially, this refutation premises itself on dissociating Socrates from Alcibiades. Secondarily, however, Xenophon s refutation premises itself on evaluating the ambiguities that exist in the antithetical relationship, between on the one hand the arguments made by an accuser that all too readily signifies Socratic pedagogical praxis with having an absolute corrosive influence; and, on the other hand, the ... • 43. Don T Tell Policy When President Bill Clinton signed the memorandum to the Secretary of Defense in 1993 to stop homosexual prejudices regarding who can serve in the U.S. military, he did not initiate the creation of a policy denying them that right. The policies enacted were to enforce the free rights of everyone. Just because people have read policies the way they want to interpret them shows that the policies, themselves, need to be amended, not repealed. Nor can the meaning behind the creation of said policies be let go. The repeal was ineffective due to the neutral effect it has had on military life, whilst bringing to light more issues that need to be resolved before achieving the desired result. • 44. Fresh Connections I am going to conduct a 5 forces analysis of the industry Fresh Connections is involved in, that is to say the fresh food industry. These forces help us to analyse everything from the intensity of competition to the profitability and attractiveness of the industry. We are going to use this model to better understand the industry in which Fresh Connections operates. So, the five forces are rivalry, buyer power, supplier power, barriers to entry and threat of substitutes. 1) The rivalry among competing sellers First and foremost, competitive rivalry describes the intensity of competition between existing firms in an industry. In the fresh food industry, the intensity of rivalry is influenced by different characteristics. Price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Switching to another competitive product is simple for them because of the competition in the U.S. food industry. On the other hand, quality and research and development are very important for buyers like restaurants, and Fresh Connections tries to focus its efforts on this particular segment. There is significant buyer switching cost because these products are not standardized and buyer cannot easily switch to an other product. They will have to pay again for development costs to switch the products. Besides, buyers are quite powerful insofar as substitutes are available, there is good buyer information, but fresh products are highly differentiated. 3) Competitive pressures stemming from supplier bargaining power and supplier seller collaboration The supplier power is how much pressure suppliers can place on the business. The fresh food industry requires raw materials and suppliers. Suppliers, if powerful, can exert an influence on the industry, such as selling raw materials at a higher price to capture some of the industry s profit. In our industry, bigger the firms are, more they can negotiate prices with their suppliers. So, it depends on the firm size but also on its experience and the brand reputation. Moreover, suppliers are not very concentrated. Firms need many different raw materials like vegetables, fruits, cheeses and meats. They do not have just one supplier. In this sense, suppliers are not powerful but it tends to reduce volumes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Frankenstein vs. Bladerunner As society changes around us, we spot things we never noticed before: high divorce rates, murder rates, and drug use just to name a few. James Riddley Scott and Mary Shelley noticed and had a fear of child abandonment. In Frankenstein, Shelley explores this subject through the viewpoint of a man, Victor, who creates a child so hideous that he cannot bear to look at it, and consequently deserts it. In Blade Runner Scott explores this matter through a businessman, Tyrell, who makes replicants of humans, the Nexus 6, gives them only four years to live, and sells them as slaves. This type of despair that Roy shows us is significant because it portrays his anger toward his creator, who has neglected him since his conception. The created beings in these tales become smarter than expected, and soon realize that they have been mistreated. Victorfs monster is smart enough to understand that he has been discarded, and children that have been abandoned can easily become devilish in nature. The monster is put in a place that makes him angry with all of society, and this makes him put very little value on human life. Samuel Colt played an important part in the Wild West because of the invention of the Colt Revolver. Samuel Colt was born on July 19, 1814 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was one of eight children. As a young boy Samuel Colt s principle interest was guns and machinery. His father, Christopher Colt, was a textile manufacturer and was married to Sarah Coldwell Colt ( Samuel Colt ). This did not make the men happy. Three of the men came over and Colt was about to be thrown into the river when a young man by the name of Elisha K. Root came and stopped them. This man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers (Peterson 209). In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap and ball pistol with a revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading (Silva). After finally getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt s revolvers were used in the Mexican war. After the massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands charged the Mexicans shouting remember the Alamo .(Silva ... • 47. Essay On Being A Stage Manager Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York, however her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is between adventures as she so cheerfully put it. However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and the hardest part was keeping the actors safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks and hooves which made it difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part was learning the text and material, because this show was about psychology so she had to research to fully understand the production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well during the show. However, her director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She thinks if you cannot go a few weeks or even months with our having a job than this is not a business you should be in. Ruth s advice simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said this, there is influx of stage managers and an outflow of jobs . If you find out when you start you are not good, do not do this as your job. And lastly if you choose to do this you have to be able to want to stage manage anything. Madalyn was an assistant stage manager on the Bill and Ted Show at Halloween Horror Nights this past season. She also oversees certain sections of entertainment for holiday events at Universal. She said the hardest part of working at Universal as a whole is the politics. The environment is very competitive, you always have to do your best to be put on another event. The easiest part is making great connections, because the more shows you work the more people will recognize you. Madalyn, along with every other stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mr. Skilling appealed, he argued he was prosecuted by the government under an invalid legal theory and that the jury he had was biased. III. Issues Mr. Skilling argued that voir dire lasted only five hours and did not sufficiently question jurors. This argument from Mr. Skilling failed because the record from the court showed that voir dire was completed properly. Mr. Skilling also argued that the court should have never tried him in Houston. Mr. Skilling pointed out prior cases where the Court decided that due to extreme media coverage there was a possibility of juror prejudice that required the courts to change the venue. However, I believe that Mr. Skilling s case differs from these prior cases which were all in small communities, had media coverage that showed the defendant confessions, and trials that occurred right after the crime and media coverage. I also believe that Skilling s jury acquitted him of several charges, due to this face I believe that it is very unlikely that there was any juror prejudice. Even though the media coverage of Skilling seems to all be positive, I do not believe that it was not to the necessary level to show that there would be juror prejudice. Due to all of these reasons, I do not believe that the district court made any errors by denying Skilling s request for a venue change. IV.
