Essay on Unit 1 Exercise 1
9/25/2014 Local Exchange NT 1310 Unit 1 Exercise 1 Guido Libreros 0 Unit 1. Exercise 1.

how data travels long distances in a real world example. Assignment Requirements Online
gaming is big business these days, with thousands of people connected to each other every
minute. Games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft connect massive numbers of players,
sending both data and voice communications back and forth in real time. In a 1 2 page paper,

Second, there is a physical device that connects the computer to the network of lines he is
communicating over. It could be a modem, a network card, a radio transmitter, or a router.
Third, there is a set of software that allows the computer to send data across this network. There
are a lot of layers to this software. At the top level, the computer sends some type of packet of
data to the device and across the network. Typically, this is a TCP/IP packet. This basically tells
you what the format of the data has to be, and what pieces of software computers need to have to
send this kind of data. Finally, at the game layer, the game determines what other computer it
needs to connect to, sends a request to the network device to establish the connection, and then
sends data to the device so it can be sent. The network layer, when it receives data on a given
connection, doesn t just store it, it sends it on to the application who has the connection. So the
connection is essentially between two applications. Focusing on the physical access; the possibility
that data can be send to players around the globe is all thanks to the infrastructure of telecom
companies. Starting with the local access, which is provided by the local telephone companies
(Local Exchange Carriers). These entities are responsible for ensuring the necessary access to the
network and the reliable transportation of the information. The Local Exchange

Why People Lie Essay

Why people tell lie outline
Let s say that, we always hear lies everywhere. Lies can hurt other people, and lies can be a joke to
have fun with everyone. Lies can also be a way to glossing over the fact. Lies can protect who are
telling the lie. Everyone lies, although the ideas of lying to people are wrong, but people still lie
about anything in their life. In this essay, it will talk about which ways people will lie and how
they lie.
1: Sometimes, some people will use a lie to hurt or laugh at someone.
1: To make fun of other people

3: Destroy a person childhood.

Sometimes, some people will use a lie to hurt or laugh at someone. For example, when I was in
primary school, my classmate enjoyed to laugh with someone in my class. Maybe they want to
make fun of people, but they always make other people feel really bad of themselves. My
teachers always told us to not do those awful things to other, but they didn t care about that. They
still make fun of other students. I think it is an immoral way to use lie because that would hurt not
on the body, but on the spiritual side! If the spiritual gets hurt, it is harder to recover than physique
pain! Also, my classmate could destroy a person childhood. It is the fact and grave! Lie can destroy
everything not only childhood!
Lies can be one kind of believe and have fun. For example, if the father and mother tell their kids
about Christmas has Santa Claus, who gives Christmas presents to their kids. Some kids usually
believe in Santa Claus. In the future, the kids will know it is not true, but they will think it was a
good memory in their childhood! I think it is a good way to use lie. Lying can be fun, but doesn t
use it in a bad way on other person because it will lets the person get hurt like my classmate.
In my daily life, people always lie for purpose. For instance, my friend would like to transfer to
California s college. The college required the TOEFL test, and she has already prepared for the test
and waited to transfer

National Airspace and Airport Congestion Case Study
Commercial and general aviation will continue to experience an increase in air traffic for the
foreseeable future. This congestion has been proven to cause costly delays and potential hazards to
commercial aviation and the airport environment. Several major airports in metropolitan areas as
well as the National Airspace System have been facing airport traffic and congestion issues over
the last decades. Significant government dollars and resources have been utilized to asses and
mitigate these issues. This case study has revealed some of the congestion issues at airports utilized
by ExpressJet Airlines in their hub and spoke route structure. Numerous government documents,
websites and case studies have been used to assess the current state of these airports, future traffic
projections, as well as plans to cope with the issue.
National Airspace and Airport Congestion Case Study
Several major airports in metropolitan areas have been facing airport traffic and congestion
issues over the last decade. The National Airspace system (NAS) too has been facing challenges
in coping with increased air traffic. In the coming decades, air traffic is forecasted to increase ever
more, putting an even larger strain on the NAS and already congested major airports. This report
will analyze the forecasted growth in air traffic, its effects on the NAS and major airports, as well
at the Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) plans to cope with anticipated needs of the system.

The Discourse Of A Discourse Community
A discourse community is defined as a group of people involved in and communicating about a
particular topic, issue, or in a particular field. We all belong to multiple discourse
communities. To earn a position of a discourse community one must possess accurate
knowledge, establish reliability of members to be accepted and learn to persuade other members
of the community. The discourse community that I identify with personally and the profession I
plan to pursue is the world of film production. However, there are many jobs that need to be done
on a film set leading to there being multiple discourse communities within the film industry, what
I want to focus on specifically is the DP, otherwise known as the director of photography .
According to The Concept of Discourse Community, by educator and researcher John Swales, a
discourse community is defined by six characteristics. The first, and probably most important,
characteristic of a discourse community is the idea that each discourse community has an agreed
set of common public goals. The goal of every filmmaker is to tell an exciting or interesting story
that would make the audience think. The director of photography uses the camera as a mirror.
That mirror reflects our lives, our feelings, our thoughts and points of view. Cinematographers
create and interpret processes to make an original work of art rather than simply setting up a
camera and recording whatever is in front of it. If this were war, the DP is like the

Kant s Philosophy On Moral Philosophy
Immanuel Kant presented his most notable positions on moral philosophy in his book The
Groundwork of Metaphysics of Morals. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel subsequently presented a
number of objections to Kant s positions, mainly in his book The Phenomenology of Spirit. Hegel
presents objections to Kant in two different ways, implicitly and explicitly. Hegel gives arguments
against Kant s moral theory as well as the general philosophical thought that produces the moral
theory that Kant presents. But in order to understand Hegel s critique of Kant, we must first
understand the content of Kant s moral philosophyand its formulation.
Kant s Moral Philosophy
The crux of Kant s moral philosophy comes from the idea that morality is derived from rationality
rational thought leads us to an objective morality. Kant is looking to pure reason as a guide to find
universally binding moral laws. If this is true, and reason can determine whether a maxim can
become a universal law of moral behavior without appeal to experience, then this would have
profound implications for moral philosophy. Kant will argue for this through the categorical
imperative.
In the Groundwork, Kant will propose the existence of the categorical imperative of morality. A
categorical imperative is a moral principle that must be followed unconditionally. This is the
criterion to which maxims should conform. Maxim, as defined by Kant, is the subjective principle
of willing. [4:401] Additionally, the categorical

AKA D-Day Operation Overlord
The Normandy Landings AKA D Day, Operation Overlord
The Normandy Landings were a series of landing operations by Allied forces to capture
Normandy during World War 2. The Normandy Landings were also known to the Allied forces as
Operation Neptune, or D Day. Meanwhile, the operation to gain control of France was named
Operation Overlord. The purpose of Operation Overlord was to seize Western Europe starting
with France from Nazi control and enter Germany together with the Soviet forces from Eastern
Europe to end the Nazi regime. During this conflict, 156,000 Allied troops fought against a
outnumbered 50,350 Nazi force. In the end, the Allies had approx. 10,000 causalities as opposed to
the Nazi s 4000 9000 casualties.

Omaha Beach: This beach was the most heavily defended beach. Landing craft were shot at by
artillery and machine guns and blown up by mines underneath the surface of the water. The enemy
Nazis were heavily entrenched in the cliff above leading to some 2000 casualties for the Allied
forces.
Gold Beach: This beach was not directly protected by any pillboxes or other defences, but rather
by an enemy battalion and 4 artillery guns, 3 of which were destroyed by Allied ships and 1 of
which surrendered. The casualties for this beach landing were estimated to be roughly 1000.
Juno Beach: This beach was defended by artillery, machine gun nests, pillboxes, barbed wire

Hobbes Vs Rousseau
Throughout history, many people have had very different ideas about how governments should
be run. Of those many people, four had very important ideas about government. Those four
people were Charles de Secondat Baron de Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Thomas
Hobbes, and John Locke. Montesquieu believed that laws were necessary but varied for each
area for their own conditions; Rousseau believed in self directed law and freedom through giving
themselves to others; Hobbes also believed that laws were necessary but that mankind could not
thrive if they lived in a world of war; and John Lockeexpounded that laws should only be created
with the consent of the people and that a man truly can t sign away his life. These influential

He made this evident in The Leviathan. In this document, Hobbes wrote about how men were
more equal than they realized, although from this equality came the same longing for attaining
our goals. However, when two people long the same thing, it can lead to war. When there is war,
Hobbes claims, there is no place for productive labor, thus leading to Earth losing culture. There
is no society, no arts, no account of time, no more exports over sea. Although, Hobbes says the
worst part of war is the continuous fear and the danger of violent death. He believes war ruins
mankind. In Two Treatises on Government, John Locke stated that societal rules and laws
should be created by the consent of the people through a trusted legislature. No laws should be
permitted if the people do not agree to it. In this work John Locke also proclaimed that one
cannot obtain someone else s power unless the power is given or forfeited, such as through death.
He viewed slavery as a war due to it not being consensual. No man can truly sign his own life

Essay about Transformation of Homewood West Community
Homewood West is located on the eastern side of Pittsburgh and is one of the three neighborhoods
that make up the Homewood community, along with Homewood North and Homewood South.
Homewood West was once a thriving neighborhood with an abundance of upper class families and
an economy that depended heavily on the city s railroad system, that made economic opportunities
readily available and housing that was affordable and convenient (Allegheny County DHS 2010).
African Americans were the first to inhabit Homewood, However many whites moved into the
neighborhood, causing tension within the community, during a time period where racism was still
a major factor in society. According to the Allegheny DHS (2010), by 1910, Homewood s

Now, Homewood West has a total population of 818 people, which has steadily declined since the
1950 s (U.S. Census 2010). This transformation has had some major effects on this neighborhood,
making economic opportunities hard to find. A lack of quality education, and high crimerates have
caused businesses to leave the area, creating vacant buildings and broken down homes, lowering
the value of properties and the hopes of bringing businesses back to the community. Residents in
Homewood are affected by all these things and have the community at a standstill, looking for ways
to fix them.
Demographics and Crime
My first perception of Homewood made me a little nervous about the idea of going into a
neighborhood with such a high crime rate, especially being a kid from a suburban area with
mostly white middle class families. Going into a neighborhood that was 95.6 percent black was
definitely out of my comfort zone (U.S. Census 2010). My perception of Homewood quickly
changed however, once I started to talk to people there. To my surprise, many were well educated
and very welcoming, and ambitious people, striving to make the community better. Many of them
noted the issues in the neighborhood, and stated that they had a lot of work to do but they made me
leave Homewood West with hope.
As I started my journey into Homewood, I made my way down Franktown Avenue past the
YWCA I started to see differences from the city and why a lot of residents are struggling to make

Essay about Renewable Energy Systems
Until the 70 s, renewable energy systems were widely considered minor and declining power
sources (Maugh, 1972). Since then, palpable advances in technologies, to produce an array of
renewable energy products (see Pandey, 2009), together with the promise of jobs and higher
aggregated value to rural activities (see Domac, Richards, Risovic, 2005), greatly contributed to
revise this setting (Cowan, 2002; Petroleum, 2009; Sims, Hastings, Schlamadinger, A. Taylor,
Smith, 2006).
Change started at a slow but steady pace, led mainly by the successive development of the
economies of South East Asia and Brazil. However, it was only with this decade s instability and
overall rise in fuel prices, amid concerns of climate change (Cox, Betts, C. ... Show more content on

Moreover, many economic stimulus bills have been introduced globally with mechanisms
supporting investments in Renewable Energy Projects. By early 2009, policy targets existed in at
least 73 countries from which at least 64 had policies to promote renewable power generation,
including 45 countries and 18 states/provinces/territories with feed in tariffs (REN21, 2009, p. 8).
Accordingly, related R D has been intense and diverse, ranging from the exploration of innovative
renewable sources to new types of conversion technologies. Such advances have been accelerating
the diffusion of renewable energy systems, reducing costs, and enabling new application scenarios;
thus promoting a fast pacing expansion cycle of the sector.
Today there is no shortage of interest and demand for REPs. Since 2004, global annual
renewable energy investments have increased 400% to US $120 billion in 2008. While solar
photovoltaic capacity augmented sixfold to 16 gigawatts per year, wind power increased 250%,
to 121 gigawatts. Regarding renewable liquid fuels, ethanol production doubled to an annual
capacity of 70 billion liters, while annual biodiesel production jumped from 02 to 12 billion liters.
Consequently, there was an increase in total energy production from renewables by 75% during the
period, to 280 gigawatts (see REN21, 2009).
A recent study by the U.S. Government (Clarke et al., 2007) forecasted that global annual

How Is Situational Irony Used In The Scarlet Letter
Novelist, Ernest Hemingway, in his novel, The Scarlet Letter, writes about the Puritan life and
how some characters with through a rough path of disobeying the Puritan culture. He has many
characters that represent many different things in his novel. Hemingway uses an abundance of
rhetorical strategies. One of the ones that he uses is irony. He uses different types of irony such
as verbal, situational and dramatic to shows the imperfect world that the Puritans really had.
Verbal irony is when the speakers says one thing but means another, or saying something without
realizing its significance. An example of verbal irony would be when Hester stands on the
scaffold. Dimmesdale wants her to tell her sins. Dimmesdale tells her that her silence would only
add hypocrisy to sin. This is ironic because he does not know how much hypocrisy his life will be.
Another example of verbal irony is when Pearl asked Hester, Why does Dimmesdale cover his...

Dramatic irony is when the reader knows something that characters in the story do not know. An
example would be when Hester tries to convince the governor to let her keep Pearl because they
do not think that she is a fit mother. She wants Dimmesdale to talk for her because he knows her
best. This is dramatic irony because everybody else thinks he knows her best because he is the
reverend but the reader knows that he actually committed the same sin and their equal. Another
example of dramatic irony would be when Dimmesdale becomes sick and moves in with
Chillingworth because he is the town s doctor and his suppose to nurse him back to better.
Chillingworth is only making Dimmesdale sickness worse. He reminds him of how bad it is to
commit sin and what it does to you. It is also dramatic irony because the reader knows that
Dimmesdale is Hester s father before anybody else knows. Hawthorne uses dramatic irony to
create the story and all of its good

Why Is Robert Lowell Confessional Poetry
Robert Lowell is a brilliant writer and poet. He is one of the geniuses of his time. Paul N. Calvert
said, The period in which Robert Lowell wrote has been called The Age of Lowell, a testament
to his genius as a poet, and this poet was truly a genius. Lowell was born on March 1, 1917 and
died on September 12, 1977. Throughout his lifetime, Lowell wrote many poems and even a few
books, but he is mostly famous for his works of poetryand the movement in which he utilized.
Lowell is famous for complying with the form of Confessional Poetry, a literary term which will
later be defined. Some poems demonstrate this movement more than other poems, but most, if not
all, of Lowell s poems contain the ideas of Confessional Poetry. These poems often... Show more

However, this poem is one of the most prominent. Temple Cone simply stated that Skunk Hour is
an important example of confessional poetry and this is a true statement. This poem also has
aspects of Lowell s life; more specifically, aspects of Lowell s personal, psychology life, (Cone).
The man in the poem is described as ill and this depicts Lowell s personal, psychology life,
(Cone). Another clue that points out that this is a Confessional Poem, is found in lines one
through three: Nautilus Island s hermit / heiress still through winter in her Spartan Cottage;
/ her sheep still graze above the sea, (Lowell). These lines actually depict where Lowell, a man
who comes from a very old, upper class American family, spent several summers: Castine, Maine.
The setting of this poem alone tells the reader that this is confessional poetry. The poem is set
up in a place Lowell is very familiar with; this is partly why this poem is considered
Confessional. In the poem, the narrator seems to be struggling in life and is almost depressed and
then this skunk appears. The skunk in the poem provides a counterforce to the devastating effects
of the world at large, and it distracts the speaker from his depression and therefore turn his focus to
survival rather than thriving (Cone). This counterforce or skunk can be seen in the last two stanzas
of the poem. Lowell describes the illness or depression that the speaker is

U.s. Maritime Transportation Security Act
Massport has enacted several policies and procedures to tighten security and better secure their
various waterfront terminals. These policies include, but may not be limited to:
1. Transportation Worker Identification Credential: Massport has mandated the use of the
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Massport Maritime Credentials for all
workers entering Conley Terminal and Black Falcon Cruise Terminal. Required by the Maritime
Transportation Security Act, TWIC is a threat assessment tool used to vet workers who require
unescorted access to secure maritime facilities, vessels and other critical assets (e.g. cyber systems).
Types of workers include, but may not be limited to, U.S. Coast Guard documented mariners, port
and terminal operators, truckers, equipment maintenance personnel and port security personnel.
Following a successful background check, workers are issued an identification which contains key
employee information including name, a photo and biometric data. Personnel requesting a
Massport Maritime Credential must present a TWIC card at the time of their request.
Massachusetts currently supports five TWIC enrollment locations. They are located in Pocasset,
Brockton, Boston, Worcester and Springfield.
2. Non Intrusive Inspection Program: Safeguarding U.S. borders requires the use of available and

Example Of Artificial Sweeteners
Final Draft
Sweeteners come in different forms. There are natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners
Do we understand what we consume?
Is our reliance on sweeteners detrimental to our society?
We created artificial sweeteners to cope with our addiction to sugar. One of the appeals of artificial
sweeteners is that it comes with less calories than sugar and that it does not cause your insulin levels
to spike.
We should cut down our sugar intake in America. We should start small by starting locally in our
communities. Shopping from a farmer s markets
According to heart.org, Sugars in your diet can be naturally occurring or added. Naturally
occurring sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruit (fructose) and milk (lactose). Added
sugars are sugars and syrups put in foods during preparation or processing, or added at the table.
Too much added sugar may cause your liver to reject insulin. Insulin is an important hormone that
helps turn glucose(sugar) in your bloodstream into energy. If your body can t control your blood
sugar levels, it can lead to type 2 diabetes. Although research has overconsumption of sugar is bad
for your health, artificial sweeteners should not be considered as a safer alternative.
Artificial Sweeteners tend to help avoid the problem rather than fix it. Diet sodas are an example
of this. People would drink a Diet Coke or a Coke Zero thinking that it is healthier than a regular
Coke. Diet Coke gives off a connotation that it is better for your body

Additionally, since the destructive waves break on the reef then only the low energy, constructive
waves reach the shore which makes deposition possible therefore the beach will have the chance to

established so there are no initial costs required and the artificial reef has high construction costs,
around $16.9 million to be implemented, the reef has very low maintenance costs (to ensure it is
working effectively) this is minute in comparison of the ongoing costs of the beach nourishment
program. However, with the artificial reef there may be the need to implement another program or
to continue the beach nourishment program to support it. Yet, even though there are extremely
high initial costs, the artificial reef would increase tourism and support local businesses, which
outweighs and justifies the large cost as in the long term it will be economically beneficial. Also, it
is aesthetically pleasing, attracts diverse marine life, improves surf quality and recreational amenity
so it will attract tourists and will take pressure off the natural reefs whilst aiding to stabilise the
beach. Overall, the implementation of an artificial reef would be effective coastal management

not much is known about it. Scientists have still not been able to pin point what causes

The part of the brain that is mostly impacted is the prefrontal cortex, which helps with thinking
and planning. The team focused on a location in the human genome called the MHC. They found
that the MHC has four variants of C4, which produced two different proteins, C4 A and C4 B.
After analyzing 64,000 people they concluded that schizophrenics were more likely to have
overactive forms of C4 A than non schizophrenic people. This finding made them believe the C4 A
was the gene which may cause schizophrenia. This idea was then tested by Dr. Stevens, an assistant
professor of neurology. Mice were used in the experiment to see if the nonexistence of the gene
which produces C4 would impact the synaptic pruning. The experiment showed that the mice bred
without the C4 producing gene showed a problematic synaptic pruning process. This further
supported McCarroll and Steven s theory that too much C4 A causes an excessive amount of
pruning during development of the brain. This all explains why schizophrenics have a thinner

Two Kidneys And How They Work
Most people have two kidneys, both of which are located on the right and left sides in the upper
abdominal, near the back (National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP), 2012). The
kidneys play a major role of homeostasis within the body. A brief overview of the kidney include:
the cortex which is the outer most layer and the medulla which is the inner most layer of the kidney.
Inside of the medulla are renal pyramids, which consist of a network of millions of nephrons, sub
units that filter blood and form urine(Stanfield, 2013, p.506 507). The nephrons consist of two
parts: the glomerulus, which is a cluster of blood vessels that help to filter waste products and fluid
from the blood; once the blood is filtered through the glomerulus it then travels to the renal tubules

This book s setting was in contemporary America (Foerstel, 165). It reflects the life of a family
that is determined not to let its struggles overcome them (Alan, 1). Originally written as a
children s book (Fuller 1), Bridge to Terabithia has two main characters, Jesse Oliver Aarons Jr.,
and Leslie Burke. Jess is the character that comes from a poor background in a household that
doesn t respect him (Paterson, all). Leslie is the more kind character that influences Jess with
her personality, even though she does not believe in churchly teachings. May Bell believes that
Leslie s beliefs will condemn her to hell. Leslie became Jess friend by beating him and his
friends in a footrace (Alan, 1). Jess and Leslie later create their own imaginary world to escape
from reality, named Terabithia. One day, Jess wasn t with Leslie, so she had to go to Terabithia
alone, even though she was scared (Paterson, all). She died attempting to enter Terabithia
because the rope she was using snapped and she fell into the creek and drowned (Alan, 1).
Paterson wrote that Leslie was cremated, although she does not know why (Grogan, 1). When
Leslie died, Jess was with one of his teachers at an art gallery in Washington (Alan 1). This
scared his family because they were afraid that he had been with Leslie and died with her. Jess
was only angry at his family because he could not believe that Leslie was really dead (Paterson,
all). Jess did not come to terms with Leslie s death for a long time (Alan 1). Although, by the end
of the story, he builds an actual bridge to Terabitha for his little sister May Bell to replace Leslie
(Paterson, all). Bridge to Terabithia placed ninth on the American Library Assocation s list of 100
books that had been banned between 1990 and 2000 (Grogan, 1). This book has been on PFAW s

Gangs In Prison Research Paper
The California Correctional Department says that there are 162,000 inmates in California prisons.
From this high number of inmates there are 803 gang members, 900 associates to these gangs, 325
inactive gang members, and 1,050 gang dropouts. Inmates join a gang by racial and
demographically where your from. You might ask the question why in the world would someone
join a gangin prison, especially with all the violence we see or hear on the television. Once you
take a step on the prison grounds you fall into a whole new life and politics from the rest of the
country. A lot of prisoners will join a gang for protection against other prisoners so they wont

The Aryan Brotherhood is to blame for much of the meth trafficking in the streets. Prison guards
often work with gangs to bring drugs in the prison for money from the gangs. If these guards are
caught they sometimes are charged for racketeering but sometimes only fired from their job and
not charged with a crime. Prison gangs also smuggle cell phones to other inmates for money.
This crime is often also helped by prison guards. These guards are often bribed for money or
threatened with violence if they do not listen to the gangs. Tobacco and illicit drugs are also
smuggled into the prisons by the prison gangs and guards for money. One pack of cigarettes can
cost up to 200 dollars. Inmates will often trade cigarette packs for drugs or vise versa. Postal
stamps are also sold by the gangs since they can get it cheaper on the streets then buying it from
the prison. Low security inmates often smuggle the contraband in for the gangs since they are
not being watched as close as the gang leaders or highly ranked members. The low security
inmates then call the gang leader or member on phones that have been smuggled in beforehand
to coordinate the smuggle. Gang members will get jobs with the prison so its easier to smuggle
the contraband in. Any members or guards that are involved in the smuggling will be paid by
paypal or western union. This is often achieved by help from the outside of the prison like family
members and friends from the streets. Gangs often mark up the price of illegal contraband:
(drugs, tobacco, cell phones, stamps ect.) , by 20,000 percent from the street price. The gangs will

The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela Essay
The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela
In 1948, the Apartheid system officially started. A Dr. Malan introduced it. He established the
structure of Apartheid because he exclaimed different races could not live amongst each other in
harmony and needed to live separately. Some might argue it was because he wanted to secure the
supposed superiority of the White minority. It ended within 50 year of starting.
This essay is going to explain how Nelson Mandela, once just a member of a small Black tribe in
the depth of South Africa, fought Apartheid to become a worldwide figurehead for non Whites, the
first Black president of South Africa, in 1994. It will also explain to what extent his ... Show more

Drastic times lead to drastic measures, so Mandela sought temporary refuge in neighbouring
countries, ruled by Blacks to set up militia groups. Mandela study military tactics for a long time
and used that knowledge to train his group to sabotage electricity supplies for White
neighbourhoods, strike government buildings and cause a general disruption for the Whites. But in
1962, on Mandela s return to South Africa, he was arrested.
This is a key factor in which opinion disagrees with Mandela solely ending Apartheid. When
arrested he was sent to a high security prison on Robben Island, off the coastline of South Africa,
for 26 years.
Although, in response, others feel Mandela was a figurehead who inspired other Blacks to fight for
their cause. Also he receives credibility for the awareness around the world at the time.
After Mandela s release he became president of South Africa in 1994, and with help from his White
deputy, de Klark, managed to dismantle the Apartheid state.
When Mandela took refuge it was at a time when a trend swept across the continent of Africa.
During the late 50s and throughout the 60s, the White colonies that ruled over 30 countries in
Africa gave independence to the Black peoples of the countries. This allowed Black people to
govern themselves. The trend seamed to spread from North to South Africa from Libya, in the
North in 1951 through to Egypt

For this project, the following investigation will attempt to answer the question, What are the
similarities and differences in the roles of geography in ancient Japan and ancient China? This
question is very relevant because it s important to know the differences in cultures and to know
as much about them as possible; especially with cultures as similar as Japan and Chinas , it s
important to show the differences. It will be showing how geography can affect two cultures in
ancient times. The times that will be the main focus of the research will be from 1600 BCE to
600 CE and will be center on the geography and how the geography can affect the people in Japan
and China. Using mostly books and websites will make this investigation a reality.

The Tension between Argentina and Britian
Argentina and Britain have always had mild tension between them almost since the the
independence of Argentina, this main cause of tension has always been over the sovereignty of the
Falkland Islands.
Britain first claimed sovereignty of the Islands in 1765 alongside France around approximately the
same time, however France transferred it s settlements to Spain in 1767. Britain left their settlement
on the Island in 1774 but claimed they never relinquished sovereignty. Spain also abandoned their
settlement later in 1811. (BBC News , 2013)
In 1820 an Argentine merchant, Luis Vernet, tried to established commercial settlements on the
islands. These settlements were not officially claimed by Argentinauntil 1828, when Luis Vernet
submitted his proposal for official recognition of his commercial settlement on Malvinas to become
an Argentine colony. The Argentine government, shortly after receiving the proposal, declared their
claim to the islands. (Lorton, 2012)
In 1833 the first conflict between Britain and Argentina occurred in regards to the islands. Britain
had returned to islands to expel the Argentine garrison, the British removed the Argentine flag
flying on the island and sent it back with their men to the mainland with a message, the British had
found, a foreign flag in the territory of His Majesty. (Lorton, 2012, p.g 151). The Argentine settlers
on the Island were allowed to remain alsong as the accepted British rule, however most settlers left

Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis Of My Existence
The Metamorphosis of Franz Kafka
A picture of my existence... would show a useless wooden stake covered in snow... stuck loosely
at a slant in the ground in a ploughed field on the edge of a vast open plain on a dark winter night .
Franz Kafka
The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung 1912), Franz Kafkas best known short story, is a master
work of incredible psychological, sociological and existential malaise. Although his points are
simple and straightforward, this richly layered and textured story is open to many interpreta tions,
making it complex, yet critical to decipher. There is an incredible amount of theories based off of
what this story could possibly symbolize or represent, but it is of the autobiographical in
terpretation that is undeniably the most enlightening. This interpretation allows the reader to gen
uinely understand the tale on an intense level that would not be able to be reached, otherwise. In
order to gain true insight on the autobiographical approach to The Metamorphosis, a brief
examination of his life is required; his thoughts, his beliefs, the acknowledgment of the cruel
circumstances of his life, especially his home life, must be made clear that the anguish of his own
world is the model for the themes in his stories. Born on July 3, 1883, in the Jewish ghetto of
Prague in the Czech Republic, Franz Kafka was the eldest son in his Jewish middle class, German
speaking, family. From the start he was shaping out to be an outsider which was

What Is The Conflict Of The Victorian Age
He Victorian age experienced a conflict between science and religion. The era found its orthodoxy
battered by movements of thoughts, like Positivism, Empiricism, Utilitarianism, Rationalism,
Liberalism and Marxism which assailed all honest minds with scepticism. There was the new
Biblical criticism and a spurt of scientific progress. They led the generation to secularization,
agnosticism, atheism and religious passivity.
Mostly, the writers of the age revolted against the deification of material progress. The poets were
perhaps the best interpreters of the age (Brett 18). They illustrated in their poems the religious
temper, its faith, doubts and conflicts of their time. The age these poets inherited was rather a fluid
transitional one. The dilemma of the age assaulted the poets very deeply ... Show more content on

He was the embodiment of the best of England s greatest poets: the dreaminess of Spenser, the
majesty of Milton, the natural simplicity of Wordsworth, the fantasy of Blake and Coleridge, the

lacked was the dramatic power of the Elizabethans. Tennyson was the most representative poet of
the Victorian era (Joseph 305).
The progress of science had greatly influenced the temper of the age. Tennyson was conversant
with the concepts of geology, astrology and evolution, which contested and undermined the
Biblical beliefs, evoking crisis in faith. He was at once mystical and sceptical in his own temper,
and so was fit to become the spokesperson of the doubts and unbelief, and the quest for religious
certainties of his age (Kalla 118). His attitude was one of compromise and he propounded a via

Capitalism And The Kingdom Of God
Capitalism: A contradiction to the Kingdom of God
In September 2013, Pope Francis publicly condemned capitalism by stating today everything comes
under the laws of competition and the survival of the fittest, where the powerful feed upon the
powerless. As a consequence, masses of people find themselves excluded and marginalized. Some
supporters of capitalism defend the trickle down theory which suggests that wealth would
eventually trickle down to the masses over a period of time. Pope Francis states that this theory
has never been supported by facts and expresses a crude and naГЇve trust in the goodness of those
wielding economic power. Any economic model that exploits the poor for personal financial gain
is offensive to God. Capitalism is diametrically opposed to the kingdom of God.
The Old and New Testament condemns oppression and exploitation of the poor. God presents
himself...as one who is especially on the side of the poor. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus stood up
in the synagogue and quoted from the book of Isaiah saying The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed to
proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. The scripture is revealing about the character and will of
God for humanity. One can conclude that God is in favor of justice for the poor and oppressed.
Capitalism is diametrically opposed to the

The need for a classification of mental disorders has been clear throughout the history of medicine.
The American Psychiatric Association, the DSM was first published in 1984. The DSM IV
symptom criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD) are somewhat lengthy, many studies
showing that treatment providers have difficulty recalling all nine symptoms (American
Psychological Association, 2010). The symptom inclusion criteria for the diagnosis of major
depressive disorder(MDD) have remained essentially unchanged during the past 35 years. Since
there has been more revision and more research, the criteria for depressive disorders has been

Some symptoms that is presented in this category are depressed moods, loss of interest and
enjoyment, and increased fatigability. Depending on the number and severity of the symptoms,
a depressive episode can be categorized as mild, moderate, or severe. The difference of these
categories depends on the duration, timing or presumed etiology. The categories are disruptive
mood dysregulation disorder, major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder and
premenstrual dysphoric disorder. In order to address concerns about the potential for the over

Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder is diagnosed when the mood disturbance continues for at

Same-Sex Couples Should Be Allowed To Raise Children
There is always a debate going on within the LGBTQ+ community. One conflict of interests
questions whether or not same sex couples should be allowed to raise children. People are
claiming that development is being affected by the young who are raised by a gay, lesbian, or
bisexual couple. Americans should start worrying about their own children. Those who are brought
up with two mommies or two daddies are not being affected in any way and should be treated no
differently than those with parents of the opposite gender.
Many arguments exist criticizing why same sex couples should not be parents. The main reason for
debate exists within the religious community. Those who are strict followers of the bible believe
that homosexuality is a sin. Therefore, they think this community should not be able to raise a
child. Another argument presented in this article is, children in will grow up to be lesbian or
gay, if they are brought up in a homosexual household. The author also explains that kids raised by
two of the same sex parent will be more likely to be bullied. It is true that children raised by a gay
couple are more likely to be harassed in school (Clarke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

adopted. It was not until 2015, when the Obergefell v. Hodges case was officially passed and

Homosexual couples outnumber heterosexual couples seeking to adopt. Which is great for, after
the ratification of this law, more opportunities are arising for children to be given a permanent
home. However, discrimination still exists. In some states, while it is not illegal for a gay couple to
adopt, a law still exists, making it easy for agencies to be biased because of their religious or moral
objections (The Effects of Lesbian and Gay Parenting

Forecasting Techniques For Planning Purposes
Forecasting Techniques for Planning Purposes All organizations that supply goods or services to
another business or consumer look at demand forecasting for planning purposes. Young (2010)
stated for most organizations, the marketing department will forecast the demand for both the short

based on these demands. When forecasting, organizations must take into consideration all the
possible factors that will affect the supply/demand. These factors include trends, seasonality,
competitive pricing, sudden changes in demand, economic conditions, labor and strikes, and more.
In today s business world, forecasting is not just a necessity, but also a means of survival, which is
why predicting the future, is so important for the short and long term success of an organization. As

when engaging with another individual, I am able to have patience as well as be an attentive
listener. These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach.
Finding the answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time.
Colleagues help each other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best
possible solution. While working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good
listener because hearing why they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for
assessing the situation in order to help him/her in the best way. Also, a patient is not going to be
completely cured after one session of OT, so possessing patience throughout the entire process is a
key factor that all OT s should work towards.

Abigail Williams Cruelty
On the first FRQ3 of the year, I received a score of seven points out of a total of nine points
possible. The prompt had to do with the role of cruelty in literature works as a whole and my job
was then to write a well developed essay analyzing how cruelty functions in the work as a whole
and what the cruelty reveals about the perpetrator and/or victim. In this essay, I decided to use The
Crucible and how the character, Abigail Williams, uses cruelty to benefit herself and her selfish
ambitions. Though a seven is a decently good score, it was definitely not the best I could do. One
of my peers graded my paper a seven with the reason that it was a little roughly written and

Though I hit all the major requirements of the prompt, the overall essay could have be written

I should have related my argument to the theme of the actual story. For example, my last
sentence in the paragraph that I explained the role of cruelty in The Crucible was In simple
terms, Abigail killed many innocent people solely for the purpose of getting a man to love . At
this point, I could have easily expanded on how this was indeed cruelty and how it relates to the
actual theme of the literary work. What I should have done was relate my argument and
assertion to the book as whole and use this to further relate The Crucible to cruelty. For the
second part of my prompt which was to [analyze] what the cruelty reveals about the perpetrator
and/or victim , I feel as though I did a good job on that. Both my peers graded that part with either a

Summary Of The Child s Bath By Mary Cassatt
Ralph Larmann s photograph of Mary Cassatt s The Child s Bath is found in the second edition of
Gateways to Art: Understanding the Visual Arts. (DeWitte, Larmann and Shields, 2105, p. 429, fig.
3.3.23). At the time of the DeWitte et al. publication, this work was on display at the Art Institute
of Chicago, Illinois. This is a 39 ВЅ x 26 oil on canvas paintingof a woman sitting on the floor,
with a child in her lap, gently holding tiny little toes in a wash basin. The work is approximately
124 years old, having been completed in 1893 by the American Impressionist, Cassatt. (DeWitte et
al.) She was roughly 49 years old at the time and most likely living in France. (DeWitt et al.)
Addressing the historical period, albeit briefly, is necessary in order to establish the context and
potential biases in approaching the formal analysis of this work. First, the authors suggest that
Cassatt was influenced by Kitagawa Utamaro, a Japanese printmaker, noting that Cassatt mentioned
his works in several letters. (DeWitt et al.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

neither image is enough to keep the eyes from following the stripes on the woman s dress, back

pitcher or the elbow, it is probable the audience s eyes would stay fixed on the subjects faces
longer, potentially missing the toes altogether. That being said, it is reasonable to suggest that there

The Purpose Of Spending A Day Without Technology
Let s give our soul the rest that truly deserves. The purpose of spending a day without technology is
to detoxify ourselves from the continuous barrage of information. Just as Mark Bittman mentions in
his article, I felt connected to myself rather than my computer. I had time to think, and distance
from normal demands. (4) We are so accustomed to rely on technologythat we seem to forget what
would become of us without it. Internet, radio, television, cell phones, video games and other
technological amenities are part of our daily life, in a way that sometimes we can not see reality
outside a screen. We have shelved conversations face to face, the pleasure of enjoying the birds
sing or simply appreciate nature around us. Professor David Levy declares, Living a good life
requires a kind of balance, a bit of quiet. There are questions about the limits of the brain and the
body, and there are parallels here to the environmental movement. (2) Talking about the
environment, not only helps us to live without the use of technology for one day but it helps the
environment as well. A great way to save money and take care of the environment is to decide to
give up the technology just for one day. We need to take care of our soulor inner self or however we
want to call it, not for vanity but sanity. Since we get up in the morning and until we go to bed at
night we are bombarded with data and information such as emails, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,
news, programs, text

Pennies Lab Report
Pennies made before 1982 and the pennies that were made after them create a significant
difference. Pennies made before 1982 are made of copper (Warnick 1). Due to the change of the
of the metals over the time period it must of caused a change in the pennies mass. Therefore, the
density of pennies created before 1982 and the pennies produced today have different densities.
Density can also be used to identify unknown substances Density is defined as the ratio of mass to
volume (Lab: A PennyFor Your Thoughts). The density of a matter is equal to the mass divided
into the volume. The mass of a matter or object can be found by using a scale. Furthermore, the
volume can be found using the method of water displacement. The purpose of finding... Show more

For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance
and finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the
experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies
were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to
create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of
post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal
zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment,
the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found
by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five
trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find
the density of the post 1982 pennies. The average density found after doing the experiment was
7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL. However, errors may have occurred tampering the
density that was discovered. For example, reading the water measurement slightly wrong when
using water displacement to find the volume of the pennies or not placing the pennies correctly in
the cylinder which could create air pockets .Due to the close difference between the

The 5 Elements Of Effective Thinking
Shocked standing in confusion you find out your friend intentionally failed at something you
needed help with. Trying to grasp the reason they failed you you are dumbfounded. Some people
believe that failure is essential for success. In the book, The 5 Elements of Effective Thinking, the
authors, Edward Burger and Michael Starbird, state that a person should intentionally fail in order
to succeed. However, this stance is inaccurate because it goes against biblical evidence, causes
psychological problems, and make successimpossible in the professional world.
Failing by intention is not a biblically sound concept; it undermines many biblical truths. In Acts
17:30 we are commanded to repent from sin. You can not repent from sin if you are intentionally
failing. Repentance is to completely turn away from something. It was explained to me as a child
that repentance is running away from something as fast as you can. If we apply the principle of
intentional failure in our lives it undermines what the bible commands concerning sin. Paul in
Romans 6:1 2 states What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may
multiply? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Paul is pointing out that we
should not fail in our moral integrity simply because we can but rather strive to succeed. Through
Christ we have forgiveness from sin. Regardless, that does not allow allow us to sin as we please.
Failing should come about when we have put our

first hurdle. The second is deciding which to buy.
The world s largest software maker followed familiar territory in developing the Xbox using a PC

The CEO should explain the reasoning behind moving on from government contracting and how
this change will benefit the organization. Explanation on how the downsizing will affect the
remaining managers is critical, some may welcome the added responsibilities other may resent it.
The key is communication meeting with managers and showing empathy to their concerns.
Encouraging employees to share their feelings will help them get through the first stage of the
Bridges Transition Model. The remaining management team should understand the current state of
the organization and be on board to help motivate employees to accept the new changes. The
strategy for meeting these goals is creating a culture that allows open communication and
opportunity for innovation. Having employees think creatively and share new ideals will help with
align the organization with their new goals of gaining a performance wear audience. The strategy

The Woods Essay
Jack was steaming mad. He had just had yet another fight with his mom about wasting food and
was heading to the old tree house in the woods. They were always fighting about wasting food.
He saw where she was coming from. They were pretty tight on cash, but if she was so intent on not
wasting food why didn t she eat it. He was sitting at the footof the abandoned tree house, drawing a
dragon in the sand, when he suddenly felt the overwhelming need to go deeper into the woods.
He knew he shouldn t go. There were dangerous animals like wolves and bears in the woods, but
he had to. Some hidden force was calling to him. He had to go regardless of the dangers. The
force was too strong. Resistance was futile. He got up and went. He went deeper ... Show more

He struggled to get out of the water but the current was too strong. He sensed an upcoming
waterfall and used the last of his strength but it was not enough to pull himself out of the stream.
He flew over the water fall and passed out. He had no idea how long he was out but when he
woke up it was daytime and he was on dry land. It looked as if someone or something had
dragged him out of the water. Then he realized that he was in a completely different world than
before. There were little fairies flying around his head. He wondered where he was for a while
just laying there. Then he realized he must be dreaming. In a little while he would wake up in his
own bed, but if he was dreaming then why did he hurt so much. Some of the little fairies had
grouped around his head.
He tried to wave them away and one of them bit him. A searing pain went all the way through his
left arm from his finger tips to his shoulder. He decided it was definitely not a dream. The fairies
helped him up and told him to go and defeat the beast. He asked them what beast but they would
not tell him. He left fearing if he stayed too long they would bite him again. His left arm was
already half paralyzed and swelling up. He got out of the meadow and was standing up agenst a
tree looking at the bite. Then an arrow went into the tree right above

The Science Of Shopping, By George Orwell
In a world perceived in a state of constant surveillance much like the dystopian setting of George
Orwell s 1984 novel, it is expected to view the practices that Malcolm Gladwell introduced in his
article, The Science of Shopping, as frightening. However, the main intentions of these remarkable
tactics are greatly misunderstood and Gladwell does an excellent job of clearing up many
misconceptions around this topic. For instance, he introduces Paco Underhill, a self proclaimed
urban geographer who is a professional in the field of retail planning and posses a lengthy list of
credentials. He also identifies and illustrates the concepts of decompression zone, invariant right,

In fact, he can be classified as a scientist that is benefiting both the producer and consumer
simultaneously as opposed to this image of an eerie spy . He s literally providing his standout
talent of extreme insight as a weapon that retailing industries can use to conquer the business
world. His renowned theory of the Decompression Zone is most certainly not a concept that can be
compared to rocket science. It s merely just a simple technique that acknowledges the predictability
of the human mind and how it can be easily manipulated when switching from different
environments. A majority of human subconsciously falls to these tactics and Paco Underhill didn t
develop it from thin air; he merely discovered by carefully examining how people shop.
As stated before, the human mind subconsciously falls to traps and it s programmed to follow
patterns. With this being said, Underhill is also credited with discovering the theory of Invariant
Right which states that consumers who enter stores are more likely to move to the right side.
From a personal standpoint, I can verify that his theory is, in fact, legitimate because based on the
C Town supermarket that I have visited, a deli was placed as a simple access for customers that
are either in a rush or on lunch breaks to take advantage of. Furthermore, like a scientist, Paco

Southern Women Historiography Summary
Kyriakoudes stands against the Agrarian myth of the South, finding many rural citizens moved
toward local urban centers and a found that economically and that agriculture was insufficient to
support rural families. Dropping prices created generations of rural youths looking to escape the
farm and try their hand at survival in the city (provided they were close enough to still be within
the safety net of home. Kyriakoudes noted that more women were migrating to Nashville, if you
were a woman, you were not getting land so you went to the city and sent money back home.
However, in the newly minted capitalist economy, money equates to power, socio cultural agency,
and new narratives of the Southern experience. These women possessed a sense of autonomy and
diverse experiences as expressed by a generation earlier by African Americandomestic workers in
Atlanta and the homogenous rural, Southern woman. Work, Family and Faith, was edited to
provide readers with an accessible introduction to the multiplicity of lives that constructed the
supposedly homogenous group of rural Southern women . Oral histories of rural southern women
blend to reveal narratives about the region and nation that were silent in the historiography.
Following in the steps of Tera Hunter, Walker and Sharpless accentuated how vital women were to
the construction of Southern history and society. They even touched upon the experiences of rural
African American women, often over looked in the historiography due

How To Portray The Humor In The Office
Since the starting episode in 2005, The Office has consistently portrayed a humorous office
environment. The humor within the sitcom stems from influential people, such as Sigmund Freud,
who depended on awkwardness to make a joke. The creators of The Office, like Greg Daniels and
more, established humor by relying on Freud s ideology, observational humor, and juvenalian
satire. This is especially prevalent in season two, episode one of the show, The Dundies.
Throughout the series, the audience has rolled over in their seats because of the regional manager,
Michael Scott. He portrays a socially awkward friend and co worker. In the episode The Dundies ,
Michael creatively drafts up specific awards to appreciate his employees. The scene starts with
Michael attempting to rap to a pre recorded soundtrack, The Dundies, how can I explain it, I m
happy that you all made it... . He gets off beat and the camera drifts to awkward faces in the crowd.
Also, toward the end of the scene, Michael is continuing to rap, but a waitress stepped over the
plug, resulting in the soundtrack being cut short. Yet, he remains singing. In both sections of the
scene, discomfort fills the room and makes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, many of the employees will step into a side room to give their (scripted) opinion and
possibly tell another story. In this episode, Oscar, who is fairly annoyed with Michael s
shenanigans, steps off to make a comparison of the Dundies and a child s birthday party, And
you go, and there s really nothing for you to do there, but the kid is having a really good time, so
you re kinda there, that s kinda what it s like. By using this analogy, Oscar relates to the audience.
The viewers can picture themselves at a boring child s birthday party. This is also an example of
observational humor. The show and especially Oscar s comments portray the lives of a normal and

As a result of these public scandals, it was a need in new more strict regulatory standards in terms
of protecting investors from fraud activities of corporations. In order to ensure effective regulation,
the Sarbanes Oxley legislation contains eleven sections that describe responsibilities of corporate
boards (Engel, Hayes, Wang, 2007). In case these responsibilities are not performed, criminal
penalties are applied. The need for stricter financial governance laws created the global trend and
such countries as Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Israel, Turkey and others also enacted the
same type of regulations (Damianides, 2005). Today, the Sarbanes Oxley legislation continues to
play a fundamental role in the process of protecting the rights of investors and supporting a high
level of investment attractiveness of the United States and companies that operate in the country.
That is why this particular legislation can be considered as extremely benefiting for the national
economy as well as investors. Despite impacting the national economy as well as investors, the
Sarbanes Oxley legislation also has had a considerable impact on information technology
organizations. When in 2002 George W. Bush signed the Sarbanes Oxley legislation he noted that
this is the most important and far reaching reform that the United States has had since the time of
Franklin D. Roosevelt (Damianides, 2005). The impact that the Sarbanes Oxley legislation has had

The Pros And Cons Of Hate Crime
Crimes based off of hate is a crime that is caused based off a bias towards a person or race. These
crimes are called hate crimes and effect people all around of all ages and is a bais that is not
easily forgotten. There are laws specifically for this crime that one can be persecuted for just for
people who have disagreement about another person s religion and race , and why we need them
in our society. Hate crimes in my opinion are wrong and not needed in this world but can not be
forgotten because of history between people. If the history between the people of this world was
different then maybe these laws would be unnecessary but we need them to protect the good people
in the world who didn t ask to be different.
Laws are necessary part of a government. Government serves as system that can provide services
and order which the people can pick their respentace. Now imagine a law that help protect you,
your race, ideas, sexual orientation and so forth. Now imagine a group of people or even

citizens no matter their race and choices. But that doesn t seem to be the case always. In article by .

The Political Strategy Of Versailles And Versailles
Just as he did with his ballet performances, Louis continued to infuse theatricality into his
political strategy by creating spectacles that captured his nobles attention and demonstrated their
king s immense power to them. Principally, there was Versailles, which represents the most
tangible example of Louis use of spectacles to establish and flaunt power. In Louis political
strategy of utilizing spectacle, perception was reality, and he used France s perception of him to
validate and reinforce the reality of his power. Versailles represented a concrete way to
constantly remind his potential enemies some of whom were nobles that he forced to live with
him in Versailles after the Fronde of his power. Versailles represented luxury and extravagance
on the grandest scale. The Primi Visconti described that there is no mine in the world as valuable
as Versailles. The grandeur of Versailles reflected and reinforced the grandeur of Louis, thereby
building up his power, because Versailles was Louis in a sense. Just as Louis was the Sun King,
Versailles was the sun palace, brimming with solar symbolism. Again, art became potent political
propaganda. Furthermore, Louis used Versailles to throw magnificent parties, spectacles that
served as tools to control his nobles conception of their monarch. In short, Versailles was festivity
remembered. The most famous of these parties, The Pleasures of the Enchanted Isle, occurred in
1664. This festival told the story of a sorceress who enchants a troupe of knights, and the function
of the festival itself followed much the same storyline. Through the extravagance of the festival,
Louis much like the sorceress enchanted his court with a dizzying series of fascinating spectacles
[that] demonstrated the magic of royal power. While Versailles and its accompanying festivities
represented artistic means through which Louis reinforced his power, he also utilized more
practical spectacles. During his reign, Louis grew the French army tremendously from only a few
thousand men to over 100,00 men in peacetime and over 400,000 men in war time. Obviously, this
growth had practical reasons, as a bellicose ruler demands a large army, but it also demonstrates
Louis innate ability

Local Exchange Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes In this Exercise, you will explain how data travels long distances in a real world example. Assignment Requirements Online gaming is big business these days, with thousands of people connected to each other every minute. Games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft connect massive numbers of players, sending both data and voice communications back and forth in real time. In a 1 2 page paper, discuss HOW the data gets sent from a computer or gaming system to the computer/gaming system of all of the people with whom one is playing. Specifically, focus on the local exchange interfaces access,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, there is a physical device that connects the computer to the network of lines he is communicating over. It could be a modem, a network card, a radio transmitter, or a router. Third, there is a set of software that allows the computer to send data across this network. There are a lot of layers to this software. At the top level, the computer sends some type of packet of data to the device and across the network. Typically, this is a TCP/IP packet. This basically tells you what the format of the data has to be, and what pieces of software computers need to have to send this kind of data. Finally, at the game layer, the game determines what other computer it needs to connect to, sends a request to the network device to establish the connection, and then sends data to the device so it can be sent. The network layer, when it receives data on a given connection, doesn t just store it, it sends it on to the application who has the connection. So the connection is essentially between two applications. Focusing on the physical access; the possibility that data can be send to players around the globe is all thanks to the infrastructure of telecom companies. Starting with the local access, which is provided by the local telephone companies (Local Exchange Carriers). These entities are responsible for ensuring the necessary access to the network and the reliable transportation of the information. The Local Exchange ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lies can also be a way to glossing over the fact. Lies can protect who are telling the lie. Everyone lies, although the ideas of lying to people are wrong, but people still lie about anything in their life. In this essay, it will talk about which ways people will lie and how they lie. 1: Sometimes, some people will use a lie to hurt or laugh at someone. 1: To make fun of other people 2: In Primary School 3: Destroy a person childhood. 2: Lies can be one kind of believe and have fun. 1: Fairy tail for kids 2: Christmas has Santa Claus 3: Lying can be fun and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes, some people will use a lie to hurt or laugh at someone. For example, when I was in primary school, my classmate enjoyed to laugh with someone in my class. Maybe they want to make fun of people, but they always make other people feel really bad of themselves. My teachers always told us to not do those awful things to other, but they didn t care about that. They still make fun of other students. I think it is an immoral way to use lie because that would hurt not on the body, but on the spiritual side! If the spiritual gets hurt, it is harder to recover than physique pain! Also, my classmate could destroy a person childhood. It is the fact and grave! Lie can destroy everything not only childhood! Lies can be one kind of believe and have fun. For example, if the father and mother tell their kids about Christmas has Santa Claus, who gives Christmas presents to their kids. Some kids usually believe in Santa Claus. In the future, the kids will know it is not true, but they will think it was a good memory in their childhood! I think it is a good way to use lie. Lying can be fun, but doesn t use it in a bad way on other person because it will lets the person get hurt like my classmate. In my daily life, people always lie for purpose. For instance, my friend would like to transfer to California s college. The college required the TOEFL test, and she has already prepared for the test and waited to transfer ... • 4. National Airspace and Airport Congestion Case Study Commercial and general aviation will continue to experience an increase in air traffic for the foreseeable future. This congestion has been proven to cause costly delays and potential hazards to commercial aviation and the airport environment. • 5. The Discourse Of A Discourse Community A discourse community is defined as a group of people involved in and communicating about a particular topic, issue, or in a particular field. We all belong to multiple discourse communities. To earn a position of a discourse community one must possess accurate knowledge, establish reliability of members to be accepted and learn to persuade other members of the community. The discourse community that I identify with personally and the profession I plan to pursue is the world of film production. However, there are many jobs that need to be done on a film set leading to there being multiple discourse communities within the film industry, what I want to focus on specifically is the DP, otherwise known as the director of photography . According to The Concept of Discourse Community, by educator and researcher John Swales, a discourse community is defined by six characteristics. The first, and probably most important, characteristic of a discourse community is the idea that each discourse community has an agreed set of common public goals. The goal of every filmmaker is to tell an exciting or interesting story that would make the audience think. The director of photography uses the camera as a mirror. That mirror reflects our lives, our feelings, our thoughts and points of view. Cinematographers create and interpret processes to make an original work of art rather than simply setting up a camera and recording whatever is in front of it. If this were war, the DP is like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Kant s Philosophy On Moral Philosophy Immanuel Kant presented his most notable positions on moral philosophy in his book The Groundwork of Metaphysics of Morals. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel subsequently presented a number of objections to Kant s positions, mainly in his book The Phenomenology of Spirit. Hegel presents objections to Kant in two different ways, implicitly and explicitly. Hegel gives arguments against Kant s moral theory as well as the general philosophical thought that produces the moral theory that Kant presents. But in order to understand Hegel s critique of Kant, we must first understand the content of Kant s moral philosophyand its formulation. Kant s Moral Philosophy The crux of Kant s moral philosophy comes from the idea that morality is derived from rationality rational thought leads us to an objective morality. Kant is looking to pure reason as a guide to find universally binding moral laws. If this is true, and reason can determine whether a maxim can become a universal law of moral behavior without appeal to experience, then this would have profound implications for moral philosophy. Kant will argue for this through the categorical imperative. In the Groundwork, Kant will propose the existence of the categorical imperative of morality. A categorical imperative is a moral principle that must be followed unconditionally. This is the criterion to which maxims should conform. Maxim, as defined by Kant, is the subjective principle of willing. [4:401] Additionally, the categorical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Hobbes Vs Rousseau Throughout history, many people have had very different ideas about how governments should be run. Of those many people, four had very important ideas about government. Those four people were Charles de Secondat Baron de Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke. Montesquieu believed that laws were necessary but varied for each area for their own conditions; Rousseau believed in self directed law and freedom through giving themselves to others; Hobbes also believed that laws were necessary but that mankind could not thrive if they lived in a world of war; and John Lockeexpounded that laws should only be created with the consent of the people and that a man truly can t sign away his life. In this document, Hobbes wrote about how men were more equal than they realized, although from this equality came the same longing for attaining our goals. However, when two people long the same thing, it can lead to war. When there is war, Hobbes claims, there is no place for productive labor, thus leading to Earth losing culture. There is no society, no arts, no account of time, no more exports over sea. Although, Hobbes says the worst part of war is the continuous fear and the danger of violent death. He believes war ruins mankind. In Two Treatises on Government, John Locke stated that societal rules and laws should be created by the consent of the people through a trusted legislature. No laws should be permitted if the people do not agree to it. In this work John Locke also proclaimed that one cannot obtain someone else s power unless the power is given or forfeited, such as through death. • 11. Essay about Transformation of Homewood West Community Homewood West is located on the eastern side of Pittsburgh and is one of the three neighborhoods that make up the Homewood community, along with Homewood North and Homewood South. Homewood West was once a thriving neighborhood with an abundance of upper class families and an economy that depended heavily on the city s railroad system, that made economic opportunities readily available and housing that was affordable and convenient (Allegheny County DHS 2010). African Americans were the first to inhabit Homewood, However many whites moved into the neighborhood, causing tension within the community, during a time period where racism was still a major factor in society. Now, Homewood West has a total population of 818 people, which has steadily declined since the 1950 s (U.S. Census 2010). This transformation has had some major effects on this neighborhood, making economic opportunities hard to find. A lack of quality education, and high crimerates have caused businesses to leave the area, creating vacant buildings and broken down homes, lowering the value of properties and the hopes of bringing businesses back to the community. Residents in Homewood are affected by all these things and have the community at a standstill, looking for ways to fix them. Demographics and Crime My first perception of Homewood made me a little nervous about the idea of going into a neighborhood with such a high crime rate, especially being a kid from a suburban area with mostly white middle class families. Going into a neighborhood that was 95.6 percent black was definitely out of my comfort zone (U.S. Census 2010). My perception of Homewood quickly changed however, once I started to talk to people there. To my surprise, many were well educated and very welcoming, and ambitious people, striving to make the community better. Many of them noted the issues in the neighborhood, and stated that they had a lot of work to do but they made me leave Homewood West with hope. As I started my journey into Homewood, I made my way down Franktown Avenue past the YWCA I started to see differences from the city and why a lot of residents are struggling to make ... Since then, palpable advances in technologies, to produce an array of renewable energy products (see Pandey, 2009), together with the promise of jobs and higher aggregated value to rural activities (see Domac, Richards, Risovic, 2005), greatly contributed to revise this setting (Cowan, 2002; Petroleum, 2009; Sims, Hastings, Schlamadinger, A. Taylor, Smith, 2006). Change started at a slow but steady pace, led mainly by the successive development of the economies of South East Asia and Brazil. How Is Situational Irony Used In The Scarlet Letter Novelist, Ernest Hemingway, in his novel, The Scarlet Letter, writes about the Puritan life and how some characters with through a rough path of disobeying the Puritan culture. He has many characters that represent many different things in his novel. Hemingway uses an abundance of rhetorical strategies. One of the ones that he uses is irony. He uses different types of irony such as verbal, situational and dramatic to shows the imperfect world that the Puritans really had. Verbal irony is when the speakers says one thing but means another, or saying something without realizing its significance. An example of verbal irony would be when Hester stands on the scaffold. Dimmesdale wants her to tell her sins. Dimmesdale tells her that her silence would only add hypocrisy to sin. This is ironic because he does not know how much hypocrisy his life will be. This is dramatic irony because everybody else thinks he knows her best because he is the reverend but the reader knows that he actually committed the same sin and their equal. Another example of dramatic irony would be when Dimmesdale becomes sick and moves in with Chillingworth because he is the town s doctor and his suppose to nurse him back to better. Chillingworth is only making Dimmesdale sickness worse. He reminds him of how bad it is to commit sin and what it does to you. The man in the poem is described as ill and this depicts Lowell s personal, psychology life, (Cone). Another clue that points out that this is a Confessional Poem, is found in lines one through three: Nautilus Island s hermit / heiress still through winter in her Spartan Cottage; / her sheep still graze above the sea, (Lowell). These lines actually depict where Lowell, a man who comes from a very old, upper class American family, spent several summers: Castine, Maine. The setting of this poem alone tells the reader that this is confessional poetry. The poem is set up in a place Lowell is very familiar with; this is partly why this poem is considered Confessional. In the poem, the narrator seems to be struggling in life and is almost depressed and then this skunk appears. The skunk in the poem provides a counterforce to the devastating effects of the world at large, and it distracts the speaker from his depression and therefore turn his focus to survival rather than thriving (Cone). This counterforce or skunk can be seen in the last two stanzas of the poem. Lowell describes the illness or depression that the speaker is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is our reliance on sweeteners detrimental to our society? We created artificial sweeteners to cope with our addiction to sugar. One of the appeals of artificial sweeteners is that it comes with less calories than sugar and that it does not cause your insulin levels to spike. We should cut down our sugar intake in America. We should start small by starting locally in our communities. Shopping from a farmer s markets According to heart.org, Sugars in your diet can be naturally occurring or added. Naturally occurring sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruit (fructose) and milk (lactose). Added sugars are sugars and syrups put in foods during preparation or processing, or added at the table. Too much added sugar may cause your liver to reject insulin. After analyzing 64,000 people they concluded that schizophrenics were more likely to have overactive forms of C4 A than non schizophrenic people. This finding made them believe the C4 A was the gene which may cause schizophrenia. This idea was then tested by Dr. Stevens, an assistant professor of neurology. Mice were used in the experiment to see if the nonexistence of the gene which produces C4 would impact the synaptic pruning. The experiment showed that the mice bred without the C4 producing gene showed a problematic synaptic pruning process. Young (2010) stated for most organizations, the marketing department will forecast the demand for both the short and long term planningand the operations department will work closely to set a production forecast based on these demands. When forecasting, organizations must take into consideration all the possible factors that will affect the supply/demand. These factors include trends, seasonality, competitive pricing, sudden changes in demand, economic conditions, labor and strikes, and more. In today s business world, forecasting is not just a necessity, but also a means of survival, which is why predicting the future, is so important for the short and long term success of an organization. These qualities are important in the field of OT because teamwork is the best approach. Finding the answers to the problems is not going to be independently based all the time. Colleagues help each other out by combining unique ideas in order to come up with the best possible solution. While working with the patient, it is important to have the skill of being a good listener because hearing why they are there and what they are struggling with is necessary for assessing the situation in order to help him/her in the best way. The prompt had to do with the role of cruelty in literature works as a whole and my job was then to write a well developed essay analyzing how cruelty functions in the work as a whole and what the cruelty reveals about the perpetrator and/or victim. In this essay, I decided to use The Crucible and how the character, Abigail Williams, uses cruelty to benefit herself and her selfish ambitions. Though a seven is a decently good score, it was definitely not the best I could do. At this point, I could have easily expanded on how this was indeed cruelty and how it relates to the actual theme of the literary work. What I should have done was relate my argument and assertion to the book as whole and use this to further relate The Crucible to cruelty. For the second part of my prompt which was to [analyze] what the cruelty reveals about the perpetrator and/or victim , I feel as though I did a good job on that. Addressing the historical period, albeit briefly, is necessary in order to establish the context and potential biases in approaching the formal analysis of this work. The purpose of spending a day without technology is to detoxify ourselves from the continuous barrage of information. Just as Mark Bittman mentions in his article, I felt connected to myself rather than my computer. I had time to think, and distance from normal demands. (4) We are so accustomed to rely on technologythat we seem to forget what would become of us without it. Internet, radio, television, cell phones, video games and other technological amenities are part of our daily life, in a way that sometimes we can not see reality outside a screen. We have shelved conversations face to face, the pleasure of enjoying the birds sing or simply appreciate nature around us. Professor David Levy declares, Living a good life requires a kind of balance, a bit of quiet. There are questions about the limits of the brain and the body, and there are parallels here to the environmental movement. (2) Talking about the environment, not only helps us to live without the use of technology for one day but it helps the environment as well. A great way to save money and take care of the environment is to decide to give up the technology just for one day. We need to take care of our soulor inner self or however we want to call it, not for vanity but sanity. Failing by intention is not a biblically sound concept; it undermines many biblical truths. In Acts 17:30 we are commanded to repent from sin. You can not repent from sin if you are intentionally failing. Repentance is to completely turn away from something. It was explained to me as a child that repentance is running away from something as fast as you can. If we apply the principle of intentional failure in our lives it undermines what the bible commands concerning sin. Paul in Romans 6:1 2 states What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Today, the Sarbanes Oxley legislation continues to play a fundamental role in the process of protecting the rights of investors and supporting a high level of investment attractiveness of the United States and companies that operate in the country. Versailles represented a concrete way to constantly remind his potential enemies some of whom were nobles that he forced to live with him in Versailles after the Fronde of his power. Versailles represented luxury and extravagance on the grandest scale. The Primi Visconti described that there is no mine in the world as valuable as Versailles. The grandeur of Versailles reflected and reinforced the grandeur of Louis, thereby building up his power, because Versailles was Louis in a sense.
