The Effects Of Sleep On Blood Glucose Levels
In laboratory studies of healthy young adults submitted to recurrent partial sleep restriction, marked
alterations in glucose metabolism including decreased glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity have
been demonstrated (Spiegel et al. 2005). A pooled regression analysis in adults also suggests that a
reduction in one hour of sleep per day would be associated with a 0.35 kg/m2 increase in BMI
(Cappuccio et al. 2008). In Japan, a study of adolescents observed a dose response relationship
between short sleep durations and obesity (BMI 85th percentile for age and sex and a percentage body
fat 25% for men or 30% for women) after controlling for age, sex, parental obesity, sexual maturation,
physical activity, ethnicity, TV watching, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a lot of data of effect of physical exercise and eating on blood glucose levels and chances at
Type II diabetes. However, there isn t much much data on the effect of sleep on glucose levels and
Type II diabetes development rates. More data is needed on the impact on amount of sleep and this
experiment would do exactly that.
3. OUTLINE OF EXPERIMENT
A. HYPOTHESIS AND VARIABLES The following is the hypothesis of our experiment: It is
predicted that if people aged ten to eighteen years in America are allowed to only sleep less than eight
hours consecutively a night, then they will have a higher mean blood sugar level than those who sleep
eight hours or more consecutively a night. The independent variable of this experiment is the amount
of sleep the children receive every night. This is operationalized by having two control groups, with
children receiving 8 and 9 hours of sleep a night, respectively. Getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night is
the recommended amount of sleep for children, so we predict that there will be no drastic changes to
blood glucose levels. There will be two experimental groups, with children receiving 6 and 7 hours of
sleep a night, respectively. The dependent variable is the effect on the blood sugar level.

explanatory research rather than exploratory or descriptive research. It is not descriptive

The Study Of Organizational Change
The study of organizational change is a subject that has attracted diverse academic discourses. Over
time and across academia, scholars are concerned with various aspects change. Moreover, in spite of
the various perspectives and conclusions on the subject matter, there appears to be consensus that
indeed, the way change is introduced in an organization determines the success of the intended
projects or strategic goals of the organization (Williams, 2006). Practically, in most of the
organizations, change is viewed as a bad thing. In other words, managers may not wish to condone the
resistance of their proposed projects since they delay the achievement of the goals. Hence the salient
question to ask is whether resistance to change is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both cases, the relevant theories and models are invoked and a suitable synthesis applied.
Conclusions are made and the answer to the essay question reiterated. In the final analysis, the essay
emphasizes on the need to view change resistance in an alternative manner; as opposed to the
traditional demonized approach.
Resistance to Change
In many cases, resistance to change is viewed and analyzed from the managerial perspective (Schultz
Schultz, 2004). From the managerial point of view, resistance to change is considered as a cause to the
delay in the achievement of the organization s strategic goals. Hence managers are aware of the effects
of the resistance to change, such as wastage of time. As a result, change projects are introduced earlier
than the actual time, so that by the time the management can mobilize consensus on the proposed
change, the ideal time for the commencement of the project is fulfilled. Hayes (2002) outlines other
ways of managing change, such as coercion, manipulation and dialogue with the employees. At this
point, it is also necessary to realize that change is not only a property of the employees but also an
aspect common with the middle level managers. According to Folger and Skarlicki (1999), such
managers are reprimanded, transferred to given higher positions in order to allow the change process
to take its course. In some cases, employees who resist change were sacked such as shown below.

The Role Played By Howard Schultz
1. Evaluate the role played by Howard Schultz in the growth and success of Starbucks. Is the company
in danger of relying too heavily on Mr. Schultz? Howard Schultz has played an important role in the
creation and expansion of Starbucks. However, Schultz was not one of the founders of Starbucks as is
commonly thought. Starbucks was started in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegel, and Gordon Bowker
who opened up Starbucks as a place to share their love of coffee with their customers (Thompson,
Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland III, McGraw Hill, 2013). The first four stores did not include purchasing
coffee like the Starbucks we now know. Instead, the first stores sold coffee beans which were roasted
in another facility not far away, and encouraged their customers to learn more about grinding and
brewing coffee at home. In 1981, Howard Schultz, vice president and general manager of US
operations for a Swedish maker of stylish kitchen equipment and coffeemakers, decided to pay
Starbucks a visit (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland III, McGraw Hill, 2013). Schultz s trip was
out of curiosity to see why Starbucks was selling so many of his company s products. However,
during his stay in Seattle, Schultz fell in love with Starbucks and shortly after returning to New York,
sought a way to become more involved in the company. It took almost a year for Schultz to convince
the Jerry Baldwin and Gordon Bowker that he would be a good addition to their company, but in the
fall of 1982,

Passionate Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is a fragile emotion that can cause destruction when it is not handled with proper care and
rationality. In the Shakespearean play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a feud between two families,
the Montagues and Capulets forbids star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, from falling in love.
Despite the feud, the two lovers continue their forbidden relationship and with that choice, their love
eventually leads to their downfall. The theme of passionate love among couples sometimes serves as a
healthy aspect of relationships, but in Romeo and Juliet s case, it brought out their worst traits.
Passionate teenage love is dangerous and destructive because it caused Romeo to acquire immature
and fickle traits while Juliet became inconsiderate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Romeo was banished from Verona, he chose to grieve and express emotions of self pity instead
of taking action and acting like a sensible person. For advice on his situation, Romeo confided in Friar
Lawrence to discuss his options. Since Friar served as an important influence in Romeo s life, he made
Romeo aware of how his actions were affecting him and his ability to think rationally. Friar explains
this to Romeo by saying, A pack of blessings light upon thy back;/ Happiness courts thee in her best
array;/ But like a misbehaved and sullen wench,/ Thou put up thy fortune and thy love/ Take heed,
take heed, for such die miserable, (3.3. 141 145). Friar Lawrence senses Romeo s immaturity as a
result of his strong love for Juliet. He sees that the passionate love they share is

Southwest Airlines case analysis
1. In what ways might airline customers be segmented? Airline customers might be segmented when
groups with varying needs and wants are recognized. They can be segmented on a number of different
types of things; such as age, gender, location, buying behavior, and demographics.
a. Which segments or niches would you consider Southwest s prime targets? Southwest s prime targets
would be that of business and leisure travelers. Business travelers are less price sensitive than leisure
travelers. They often travel on much shorter notice than leisure travelers. With the price of fuel rising

It also appears that with the stock incentives and the shares rising, that Southwest continue s to be a
rapidly growing firm, (Hartley, 2006).
4. On August 18, 1993, a fare war erupted. To initiate its new service between Cleveland and
Baltimore, Southwest announced a $49 fare (a sizeable reduction from the then standard rate of $300).
Its rivals, Continental and US Air, retaliated. Before long, the price was $19, not much more than the
tank of gas it would take to drive between the two cities and the airlines also supplied a free soft drink.
Evaluate he implications of such a price war for three airlines. Due to the fact that Southwest was
smart in their operation they were able to outwit their rivals. They were able to take the business of
their opponents and offering them fares at a valued price. The big airlines could not afford to keep up
with the legal battles as they were already losing money from not enough passenger capacity.
5. A price cut is the most easily matched marketing strategy and usually provides no lasting advantage
to any competitor. Identify the circumstances when you see it desirable to initiate a price cut and
potential price war. I think that I would initiate a price war when I see that competition needs to be
phased out. There are always new competitors offering some new amenity, but the war on fares will
always come about. It may be a certain season or a certain venue, but there will always be a need for

Essay on Opposition to Immigration in 19th and 20th...
Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism is a
main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to be
threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs that we
take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people reacted so
strongly against immigrants. The people feared change might distort the course of our prospering
country. We did not want to become what those immigrants were fleeing. Many economic changes

This was not a single view, but a reflection of how the entire nativist nation felt. Many political
changes were also being made during this abstract time period. Immigrants were new to our elaborate
and tangled web of politics. In fact many nativist Americans didn t understand our political system all
to well. Many people had the conception that immigrants were too half witted to follow American
politics. After all they were not even born here. Immigrants tended to vote in blocks together. In
document 7, according to magazine writer, E.A. Ross thought that foreigners were underhanded and
corrupt. They polluted everything good about our pure and honest political system. Ross gives a clear
exaggeration on how the foreigners managed to change the outcome of an election. From intimidation
at the polls, ballot frauds, vote purchases, and saloon influence. Also the support of the vicious and
criminal. This is clearly a stretch on the reality of the situation. He contradicts himself at the end by
saying its root is the simple minded foreigner . With all this criminal masterminding to change an
election outcome, its foundation are immigrants who do not completely understand our political
system. Thats fails to make any sense to me whatsoever. Most immigrants wanted a better future for
their families and that was all. Social changes played a huge role in the nativist campaign against
immigrants. Many changes were occurring in our social

Hyperthermia Research Paper
Let s face it, it is nearly impossible to avoid heat. However, people forget there can be serious
consequences from too much heat intake. The most common reaction to overheating is heat stroke,
medically referred to as Hyperthermia. Hyperthermia occurs when the body is absorbing more heat
than it can give off. The body s temperature keeps climbing due to failed thermoregulation.
Thermoregulation is a homeostatic mechanism used by all living organisms to keep a stable internal
core temperature. All mechanisms function for one reason, to maintain homeostasis. When the body is
experiencing a lower or higher core temperature, it sends signals to the glands, muscles, organs and
parts of the nervous system. Instructions for the nervous system start ... Show more content on

That being said, it takes an abnormally high body temperature to be classified as hyperthermia.
Usually the body reaches an internal temperature of 104°F before it goes into shock and dies. It can be
caused from extreme weather conditions, drug use, other medical conditions could cause the body to
not be able to stabilize the internal core temperature. In order to treat hyperthermia, doctors need to
restore the temperature back to its normal 98.6°F. Serious consequences can come from hyperthermia,
including tissue damage, organ damage if the tissues are damaged severely, lesions on internal organs,
and sometimes fatality. Heat stroke occurs in both male and female. The illness effects people who are
over 50 more severely, because they are unable to fight off the increasing heat. Circulation is also poor
in elderly people due to deteriorating artery walls. This is a huge issue when dealing with
hyperthermia because older people will have a harder time circulating more blood cells to damaged
sites. Small children often suffer from heat stroke because they have a larger surface to weight ratio.
Treatment for hyperthermia is to cool down the body, but not to the point where the patient will
become hypothermic. Doctors use both internal and external techniques in order to balance the
temperature. A few signs and symptoms include dizziness, confusion from the heat affecting the
mental state of the patient and nausea. So remember to take caution when sitting out in the sun for
long periods of time. Your body is susceptible for hyperthermia and potentially other health

Do You Want To Achieve Your Goals
Chapter 2:
Do you want to Achieve Your Goals?
Creating your mindset to succeed
Everyone in this world has its own goal. Whether to win that football game on Saturday night, claim
the employee of the year award of your company or to be able to spend a nice and relaxing vacation at
the Maldives.
Creating your mindset to succeed is the very first step when achieving your goal. This is where it will
all start. This is the part where you can create your plans and how you can make it happen. This is
where you will think of strategies on how you can overcome the challenges that may keep you from
achieving your goals. This is going to be the blueprint of your goal.
You would always hear people saying It s only in the mind . Yes it is. Most of the time, successful
people in the world start with a goal; they visualize their plan and make it happen. Why? Because no
goal or dream just appear from thin air. Planning and setting always comes first. ... Show more content

You focus your mind power and emotions to it and it becomes very powerful depending on how much
you want it. It will depend on how hungry you are to succeed on this specific goal. More often than
not, the success of your goal depends on how you think. You have to be passionate on this goal. You
should ask yourself, what are you passionate about? What is your purpose in life? When you are able
to answer those two questions, you will realize that this goal that you have set up for yourself to
succeed is really for you. You ll realize that there will be no what ifs and you will be able to keep that

The Importance Of Social Disconnection And Alienation
Our society should be aware of social disconnection and alienation due to the increase of
technological advances. How do technological advances lead to disconnection and alienation? People
can feel disconnected from reality, from themselves, or from other people. They physically alienate
themselves willingly by withdrawing from a source that can be a cause of pain or discomfort; such as
bullying, disagreements, past relations, family or work issues.
Maria Furukawa states that Advancements, particularly in handheld devices, such as smartphones,
iPads, and smart watches, have made our lives more efficient by making everything we need
accessible at the tap of a screen or a swipe to the left. Essentially, technology has taken the hard work
of talking to someone in person, of physically reading a book and of using our minds to do some
mental math and replaced it with a device. I have noticed that technology, ironically, disconnects us
from living in the present moment. Even though we try our hardest to communicate what we mean
over text, there is still a possibility for miscommunication or misinterpretation of what was written. If
instead, a conversation was held in person, facial expressions, changes in tone, and hand gestures are
some ways that miscommunication can be avoided. (Furukawa 2017) People can create a virtual world
by using these devices with the increase of screen time and internet usage. They are subjected to
advertisements, unrealistic standards, online bullying and constant access to negative information. In
this virtual world, there are numerous sites for social networking. In this case, people do not need to
physically interact with one another and can espouse any persona to their present need.
Dwight G. Dean, in his article, explains that The concept of Alienation is considered here as having
three major components: Powerlessness, Normlessness, and Social Isolation. (Dean 1961) Humans by
nature need interaction with other humans. It s a biological necessity. Hawkley states that As a social
species, humans rely on a safe, secure social surround to survive and thrive. Perceptions of social
isolation, or loneliness, increase vigilance for threat and heighten feelings of vulnerability

Superheroes are strong promotions for American propaganda. The Justice League, even Avengers
from Marvel are fighting alongside the American president and with American law. But that doesn t
always mean that they re doing the right thing. Superman and other heroes have been aware. Even in
issue #900 of Action Comics, Superman renounced his American citizenship, and this wasn t his first
time. The best heroes are aware of being tainted by bad politics. This version of Superman, Batman,

New Zealand s Energy Supply
Dear Prime Minister,
I believe that New Zealand s energy supply is secure for the future. From my research, I have found
that from 1974 to 2009 the electricity demand has more than doubled in size. Currently, most of New
Zealand s energy is generated from renewable sources which mean that it can be used by future
generations to come; we do not need to be concerned that they will cease to exist.
However, New Zealand has been named as one of the least energy efficient countries in the world and
therefore, I propose implementing strategies in order to make New Zealand more energy efficient and
this will mean that less energy is wasted which will benefit New Zealand s energy supply. I propose
more power stations in North Island as that would reduced line loss as most customers are in North
Island so less energy is lost in transmission. Although, 75% of all energy production is already
renewable, I propose for at least 90% of New Zealand s energy to be renewable in the future and this
will minimise the effects of fossil fuel generation such as global warming and air pollution. Because
of this, I think that the amount of wind power should be increased; we should not build nuclear power
plants because uranium waste is a hazard to the environment and fossil fuel electricity use should
decrease because it will run out.
Electricity is produced in New Zealand predominately through hydropower, geothermal power and
wind energy which are renewable energy sources. There are numerous

Cortical Bone Fusion
Due to a powerful corrective force in the 3 dimensional plane and improvement the stability of spinal
fusion constructs[1 3], the pedicle screw has been trusted and applied by majority of the orthopedic
and neurosurgeons. But the diameter of the thoracic pedicle is small, the thoracic spinal cord and large
vessels are adjacent to the pedicle, so the screw misplacement in thoracic has the potential for serious
complications, such as spinal cord or nerve root injury, and the inferior vena cava, the thoracic duct,
the lungs, the sympathetic chain endanger[2, 4, 5]. In an attempt to minimize these risks, multiple
techniques and difference start points have been described for placement of these implants, for
example, the freehand technique[5 9], Funnel Technique[10], open lamina technique[11], in out in

The Effects Of Video Games On The Human Mind
In 1976 the arcade game Death Race was released based on the movie Death Race 2000 . The
objective of this game was to use your car in order to run over fleeing goblins. This video game was
so simple and yet brought forth so much controversy that it led to the first study on the physiological
effect of video games on the human mind. Ever since Death Race, video games have continued to
make huge advances in order to create an almost endless amount of possibilities on what you can or
cannot do in a video game. Since the first video game was introduced, the gaming industry has seen a
huge spike in the popularity of video games. Not only have they become more popular, but they have
also become significantly more realistic. So realistic, that it s now hard to tell the difference between
an animation and an actor in a movie. I ve been playing video games now for as long as I can
remember. Since childhood, I ve played every kind of video game, from the educational and harmless
ones to the mature, bloody and gruesome ones. While I, personally, have never experienced any type
of violent thoughts or behavior due to games, can the same be said about today s youth? With video
game popularity on the rise and violence so pervasive, can violent video games really be held
accountable for it all? The intent of this paper is to first examine the psychological effects of violent
video games and to secondly give reasons as to why they in fact do not desensitize youth and to finally

Fluorescence Lab
8)
As we know in UV spectroscopy the sample is between the source and the detector. So the light starts
from the source and goes through the sample and ends in the detector. On the other hand in
fluorescence spectroscopy the light is imparted at all angle as a result the detector misses a lot of light.
This is a reason that fluorescence spectroscopy is more sensitive that UV spectroscopy.
9)
As previously mentioned after absorbing energy an electron can jump from the ground state (lowest
energy) to many excited states (higher energy). The UV spectroscopy uses the transitions from the
ground state to the excited states, and gives results about the molecules. In this case we have a huge
number of transitions, and we notice several absorption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But on the other hand the opposite process, the emission occurs over a long period of time. Thus
fluorescence quenching is used to extend the lifetime of the excited level. Consequently we achieve to
investigate molecular interactions and detect dynamic processes in biochemical and biophysical
related problems, with the fluorescence spectroscopy. Moreover quenching leads to intermolecular
deactivation. So the decrease of intensity is illustrated by Stern Volmer equation:
Iof / I f = 1+kq * το * Q
14)
Sometimes when we have a molecule it is necessary to identify the specific chemical groups and
elements in this molecule. In a fluorescence excitation spectrum we usually notice one single
fluorescence band. As we know specific elements, and chemical groups such as amino acids, absorbs
in specific wavelengths. For instance the tryptophan absorbs maximum at 280nm. So if we notice this
peak in a fluorescence spectrum immediately we know that our molecule contains that amino acid.
Knowing where most elements and chemical groups absorb, we are able to identify our molecule.

Absence Seizure Research Paper
Abstract
Several people suffer from grand mal seizures but what if you suffered from another seizure and never
knew anything was happening, this is called an absence seizure. When a absent seizure occurs the
regular electricity of the brain is interrupted. although absent seizures do not look like much when
they occur they still can be as dangerous as grand mal seizures. These absent seizures, formerly called
petit mal, have impacted my life and I have several gaps of time missing from me. Absence seizures
most likely occur at a young age but are often outgrown by 18. With later onset of absence seizures
there is a higher chance that they will stay into adulthood. The signs that someone is having a seizure
are very subtle and happen only for a few seconds at a time, so the chances of catching one is small.
The brain
In the brain there is a irregular electricity that causes absence seizures. The main way to see is
someone is having an absence seizure is to put them through an Electroencephalography or EEG for
short. This monitors the brain waves through various wave lengths but in the case of absence seizures
we are looking for a 3 Hz spike in the brain waves. This tells us if they are having an absence seizure

Walt Disney Theme Parks currently make over 2.2 billion dollars a year. The park became known as
the place where children and their families could explore, enjoy rides, and meet Disney characters.
This all happened because of the dreams of one man. Disney Theme Parks would not be where they
are today without Walt Disney who changed the concept of animated cartoons. He stood for believing
in your dreams and because of that he changed many things in his lifetime. Walt Disney s contribution
to animation forever changed cartoons.
Before he contributed to animation, cartoons in the past were made differently. In 1908 the first
cartoon, Fantasmagorie was the first animated film to use hand drawn animation. Each of the 700
drawings are double exposed, which lead the film to almost two minutes. It was perceived as a stream

By the 1950s Mickey had a themepark, a comic strip, and The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. The Mickey
Mouse Clubhouse was a show that was a hit for children everywhere. It taught them shapes, numbers,
and how to solve problems. Mickey s story does not start there in fact it goes way back to a bunny
called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald was instantly popular and Universal ordered a series of
cartoons. In 1928 Disney met with executives to negotiate another contract (Suddath, Claire. Mickey
Mouse. Time, Time Inc., 18 Nov. 2008, content.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1859935,00.html.)
but things did not end up in his favor since Universal offered that Disney could keep his job for lower
salary but he declined. Many late night brainstorming nights later reinventing Oswald the rabbit,
Disney and Iwerks decided to shortened the ears, added some extra padding around the middle, and
turned the rabbit into a mouse (Suddath). By 1937, Disney Studios was producing around 12 Mickey

Section 2: Investigation
After the end of World War Two in 1945, the Western Powers, which included the United States of
America, France and Great Britain, entered a period of military and political tension between them
and the Soviet Union, despite the tentative alliance during World War Two. The first major
international crisis of the Cold War started on June 24, 1948, when the Soviet Union tried to starve the
Western held sectors of Berlin into submission and imposed the Berlin Blockade, by cutting off all
water, rail, and road connections to West Berlin, where the allies occupied. In response to this, the
United States and Great Britain resolved to sustain and keep Berlin supplied by air, or through flight,
which soon became known as the Berlin Airlift (Harris). This creates the question of, To what extent
did the Berlin Airlift of 1948 1949 affect US Soviet relations during the course of the Cold War?

Table Salt Water Vial
Introduction The purpose of this experiment was to show the properties and capabilities of super
absorbent polymers and how table salt (NaCl) affects the properties of the super absorbent polymer.
For this experiment we were given three vials of substances; one vial contained a small amount of
powder of super absorbent polymer, one was 1/3 full with water, and the last one was 1/3 full with salt
water. We were then instructed to mix these vials in order to see how the materials relate and impact
each other s physical and chemical properties. Experimental For the experimental procedures I
unscrewed the lids of both the polymer vial and the water vial, I poured the water rapidly into the
bottle with the polymer. The water must be poured rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The invention is a 2.5 gallon fire extinguishing device containing 2.2 3.7 ounces of a dry powered
super absorbent polymeric material. The claim of the patent is to present a process for use with 2.5
gallon water based fire extinguisher that uses a super absorbent polymer that transforms water into a
fire extinguishing or preventing substance or gel. This super absorbent polymer gel will bring fires
under control more quickly, thus offering substantial water and timesaving...the water swollen gel
provides a greater water laden surface area, with a higher heat capacity, than the unbound water
molecule. Thus, more water actually reaches the fire without being evaporated and therefore provides
more cooling of the fire. Thus, the fire is extinguished using less water . The super absorbent polymers
are prepared from water soluble polymers, but have cross linking structures that render the polymers
water insoluble. The super absorbent polymers can be dehydrated to a powder. When the powder is
added to an aqueous solution and agitated, a super absorbent gel like substance is formed. Therefore,
when the dry super absorbent polymer is introduced in a water based fire extinguisher, the mixture is
agitated to disperse the powder. The resulting aqueous mixture containing super absorbent

that will make people run from being hit. A sticky, sweet soda geyser all made from Diet Coke and

started to question how this experiment works. A process called nucleation has a big role. Nucleation
is when a gas in the Diet Coke called carbon dioxide clings to the Mentos. The little bubbles that form

experiment done with crushed Mentos proved this in 2012 (Buddies). The reason why it does not

form quick enough to rise up, as it would with dropping Mentos in fast. The reason why Mentos with
their surface rubbed off would not work is because the Mentos provide the rough surface to help break

The Moon Compare To The Moons Of Other Planets
Project 1: How Does the Moon Compare to the Moons of Other Planets
Earth s moon did not always exist. According to a theory known as the Big Whack, a roving planetoid,
Theia, and the ancient Earth were on the same plane in the solar system. Theia, which is believed to
have been at least the size of Mars, collided with the ancient Earth approximately 4.5 billion years
ago. The resulting debris, material from the ancient Earth s mantle, is what is said to have formed our
current day moon. All of the debris broke off of the ancient Earth and proceeded to fill the air. All of
this debris then eventually congealed and formed a solid moon.
When making a comparison between our moon and those of other planets it is interesting to view the
number of moons each planet has, their size, and their proportion of mass as compared to the planet.
Within the terrestrial planets, Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one moon, and Mars
has two. Earth has only one moon and this moon is only 1.2% of the mass of Earth. Mars has two
moons and they are 0.00002% of the mass of the planet. The Jovian planets have a much larger
number of moons. Jupiter has sixty seven, Saturn has fifty three, Uranus has twenty seven, and
Neptune has thirteen. Jupiter s many moons are 0.013% of the mass of the planet as a whole. Saturn s
moon are 0.04% of the planet s mass. Uranus moons comprise 0.01% of the mass of the planet.
Finally, Neptune s moons make up 0.02% of the planet s

about the trial and so did everyone else, he was hoping his father would be honest and tell the truth

on the side of his head. Abner started to give Sartoris advice by telling him You have to learn to stick
to your own blood or you ain t going to have any blood to stick to (803). Sartoris his father was in the
wrong with what he had previously done but, stuck his father s advice and said no more about the trial
and his father s wrongdoings but instead tired staying loyal to his own blood.
As they reached the house of the major, his servant told Abner to wipe his feet off before entering.
Abner once again did not listen, instead he wiped his feet all over the rug and the outside of the house
then left. Sartoris Now realizes his father is not going to change his ways of doing wrong so, Sartoris
decides once again to say nothing to show that he is loyal to his father and blood but knows his father

Essay on The Factors Involved in Scientific Revolutions
In the mid sixteenth century, the world took on a revolution of a new kind. Following centuries of
religious and political unrest, countless wars, and the infamous Black Death, which ravaged through
nearly one third of the European population, Nicolaus Copernicus set off the Scientific Revolution in
1543 with his publication of De revolutionibus orbium coelestium. However, this revolution would
not be restricted to only the sciences, but it would forever change the global landscape in every aspect
of life. Although, named the Scientific Revolution, this metamorphosis of thought was not restricted to
chemistry but touched on nearly every intellectually based subject. This widespread change was the
product of a series of unique influences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
France demanded very high taxes from its people, including the Huguenots, and an anonymous
drawing dating from 1671 exemplifies the magnificent architecture and display of wealth that the

surrounded by scientific tools and gadgets that signify the remarkable and growing intelligence of
France. This is revealed as the growing field of science, and the discovery of the atom also allowed
many to believe that humans possessed an Infinite Wisdom and Power (Doc. 8) that further supported
belief in the Divine Right of Kings, that the French throne had been specifically chosen by god.
Another instrumental force was religion, which was led by clerical officials, and also played a
significant role as it provided scientists of the revolution with an inspiration, that they were efficiently
employing all the intellectual ability that God had blessed them with. The aforementioned Polish
Priest and astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus, is an epitome of an religiously inspired individual. In his

their globe of ships, and then the terrible fighters came out of the darkness and the Little Doctor

Emotional Guilt in Nathaniel Hawthorne´s The Minister´s...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil is a story of guilt, humility, sin, hypocrisy, love,
compounded emotional stability and trials of life. It is a work of gothic literary art that describes the
complexity of emotions and the psychological give and take that takes place when processing and
dealing with any human emotion. The gothic writing style Hawthorne uses in The Minister s Black
Veil makes it easy for him to focus on one main emotion: guilt. Hawthorne is no stranger to guilt, a

Hooper.
The use of a minister as the main character is especially significant throughout this gothic story. In
literary symbolism, a minister is applied as a symbol of light, happiness and peace. Hawthorne takes
this symbol and instead transforms Hooper into a representation of distress and obscurity. The rumor
Our parson has gone mad! (2432), becomes the general consensus of the surrounding community. In
this specific condemnation Hawthorne skillfully uses the word mad in this sentence to portray various
contexts. Firstly, the word mad is used to describe the mental state of the Minister but it is also applied
to depiction of the condition concerning the community s sense of ordinariness. This coincides with
the public s view that the Minister has become deranged because they assume that he is hiding his
identity from the community. Secondly, the connotation of the word mad is that the community is
slowly going mad because of the lack of knowledge of what is happening with Mr. Hooper.
Hawthorne also introduces a personal response from one of the public that reads: ...I would not be
alone with him for the world (2433), which describes the mistrust of their minister that, in turn, is
influencing them to become mad . A large portion of The Minister s Black Veil that demonstrates this
story is gothic is the technique

Architecture In Roman Architecture
The influence of the Roman Concrete and Arch
INTRODUCTION
Ancient Rome achieved several nice accomplishments that have influenced varied cultures. Varied
governments, together with the U. S., have adopted parts of jus civile. Roman literature, like the
Aeneid, remains browse nowadays. This paper can examine the cultural Aeneid, remains browse
nowadays and examine the cultural influence of the Roman development of the arch, Concrete a
structure in building construction that might carry lots of weight. An arch may be a curvilinear
structure that is typically manufactured from stone, brick, concrete, or, a lot of recently, steel. Its
purpose is to support or strengthen a building. Most arches incorporate wedge shaped blocks. The
highest center stone, called the keystone, is the last block to be inserted. During construction, a
wooden frame often supports arches. When the frame removed, both sides of the arch press against the
keystone and thereby support the arch.
Body of the historic: From historical reading, understand The Romans did not invent the arch. Indeed,
arches been used since prehistoric times. The ancient Egyptians, Babylonians, and Greeks all used it.
The purpose of the arch in these cultures, however, was limited to supporting small structures, such as
storerooms, and people often used columns to support the roof. This design limited the size and scope
of a building. As a result, builders could not construct extremely large palaces or government

The Great Powers Of The United States
After the U.N charter was signed in June of 1945, the world became divided into two distinct
categories in which all nation states belonged. The great powers, economically and militarily
dominant, were the victors of WWII: U.S, Great Britain, Russia, France and China. The rest of the
world fell into the category of small power, with little influence in shaping the international system.
As Germany and Japan recovered from their devastating defeats in the Second World War, they fought
their way back into the classification of great powers. Although this North South relationship was well

The newly gained economic and military strength in their respective regions is substantial enough to
sway the North s thought process, when constructing an effective foreign policy strategy. As China s
influence grows, the United States is fraught to come up with an effective counter response without
debilitating economic repercussion from the Chinese government. Many analysts believe that an
alliance between Washington and Beijing is the only sensible option, however, Indonesia s emergence
as a key actor on the South China Sea issue, shows that so called middle powers , like Mexico or
Australia, that aren t permanent members of the United Nations Security Council or global giants like
Japan, India and Germany, can play a vast role in outlining the proper response. Through proactive
and impartial diplomacy, middle powers Indonesia, South Korea and Philippines may be able to
contain the rise of China in ways that the United States or Japan cannot.
Pursuing a middle power option on conflicts like the South China Sea and Syria would mean allowing
friendly countries to take the lead in diplomatic work, because they are less threatening to other great
powers. While this may entail some compromises, it is more likely to generate solutions that a
regional power will heed . This rising diplomatic dependency on middle powers is precisely what will

Summary Of Amusing Ourselves To Death Postman
Humanity has far surpassed anything that was seen as impossible. However, as society progressed did
we get distracted on the way? Did we seem to lose track of the important things that mattered in our
lives? In the mid 1980s Neil Postman wrote a book called Amusing Ourselves to Death which talks
about how technology and media has reshaped our culture and he makes predictions on how it will
shape our future. The purpose of this paper is to update Postman s perspective to the present.
Throughout the last chapter of the book Postman talks about how technology has distracted us, and
how it has changed our social lives. This paper will provide information on how Postman s
perspective examples connect to society today, and how many of us are influenced by it without even

Stephen King Why We Crave Horror Analysis
As a child my mom told me about her ghost story it made me not want to think or watch scary movies.
Just having the thought of knowing that something we can t see could be watching me anywhere and
everywhere gives us the chills. The fact when we think about it we crave to see horror films. Why is it
that people feel normal when we watch scary movies? According to Stephen King s Why We Crave
Horror says that we aren t normal and the things we feel towards movies are part of the Human
Condition which means like to have a dark side or sadness, mad, happy etc. The fact that Normal is an
illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly ( Morticia quote). Stephen King rightly
claims that us as humans crave horror to face our fears, get over the scary things, and to get the feeling
of our adrenaline rush. Humans now and maybe back then do crave horror to face their fears. In
Stephen King s story Why We Crave Horror he says Our emotions and our fears form their own body
(King Why We Crave 2). What he is stating towards us is that fear makes us a human. As therefore he
also said we are mentally ill and for us to be normal we crave the need to face our fears and see horror.
Why is it that we yet don t just want to watch these horror, we make ourselves put them on? In
Stephen King s story Why We Crave Horror he says We are the daring nightmare (King Why We

could be. When Descartes observes others, he finds that their consciousness is not in any sense
apparent through their appearances over time.7 When we look out and see men with their hats and
coats walking across the street, I find that I see no difference them and automatons that are
mechanically determined to perform in accordance with the law of causality.8 What allows us to
determine that the hats and coats that are walking outside are men rather than automatons is the same
intellectual judgement that allows us to state the wax remains the same object despite substantial
particular changes.9 Descartes holds that it is this a priori, metaphysical judgement that is the basis for
intersubjectivity.
Descartes metaphysical judgement demonstrates the permanence of the Cartesian Cogito. What
precisely connects the different particular aspects of the piece of wax is precisely the universal subject
that manages to unify the particular characteristics over time under the general name of wax . This can

Responsible Citizenship In Ronald Wright s A Short History...
Despite mankind s best effort, the history of mankind is a wrinkled mess. These wrinkles are due to
mankind s inability to stop history from repeating itself several times over. However, the idea of
history repeating itself is not new to the literature of today s society. There are several more causes for
wrinkles in mankind s history. In fact, Ronald Wright argues that not only the idea of history repeating
itself, but also the idea of mankind progressing to the point that progress becomes detrimental to
mankind will result in the extinction of mankind. Therefore, Wright s argument in A Short History of
Progress should shape the discussion of responsible citizenship because his viewpoints show how
human ignorance allows mankind to progress towards extinction.
Responsible citizenship involves preventing the growth of the negative components of society;
however, mankind s progress has grown to the point where it is negative to society. The idea of
progress creates an image of society improving and heading towards a perfect ... Show more content

A part of responsible citizenship is ensuring that the society grows and becomes more efficient as it
evolves. Wright discusses how mankind has never truly grown and changed because, these things had
already been done on a small scale . . . so this spur of art and technology cannot be evidence that we
suddenly evolved into a new species (p.39). By these things Wright means the advancements of
humankind in several aspects: technological, and social. Thusly, he demonstrates that the progress
thought to be brand new to this generation is a repeat of a previous development. Theoretically
speaking then, how can something be better if it is just a different a different shell of the same object?
It cannot be, therefore mankind is not growing but simply repeating the same cycle over and over

The Same Kind Of Different As Me
There have always been leaders who are effective and get the job done, but that does not necessarily
mean that they were good leaders. To be a good leader means that not only does one have to be
effective but also be able to go above and beyond just simply reaching the goal in mind. A good leader
sets to make an impact in many different people s lives. A good example of the difference between an
effective leader and a good leader would be Ron and Deborah Hall in The Same Kind of Different as
Me. In the memoir Deborah Hall is the good leader while Ron Hall is the effective leader. Deborah
went through great lengths to help and inspire people she did not even know. She led her husband,
Ron, to go to The Union Gospel Mission and guided

  • 2. The Effects Of Sleep On Blood Glucose Levels In laboratory studies of healthy young adults submitted to recurrent partial sleep restriction, marked alterations in glucose metabolism including decreased glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity have been demonstrated (Spiegel et al. 2005). A pooled regression analysis in adults also suggests that a reduction in one hour of sleep per day would be associated with a 0.35 kg/m2 increase in BMI (Cappuccio et al. 2008). In Japan, a study of adolescents observed a dose response relationship between short sleep durations and obesity (BMI 85th percentile for age and sex and a percentage body fat 25% for men or 30% for women) after controlling for age, sex, parental obesity, sexual maturation, physical activity, ethnicity, TV watching, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a lot of data of effect of physical exercise and eating on blood glucose levels and chances at Type II diabetes. However, there isn t much much data on the effect of sleep on glucose levels and Type II diabetes development rates. More data is needed on the impact on amount of sleep and this experiment would do exactly that. 3. OUTLINE OF EXPERIMENT A. HYPOTHESIS AND VARIABLES The following is the hypothesis of our experiment: It is predicted that if people aged ten to eighteen years in America are allowed to only sleep less than eight hours consecutively a night, then they will have a higher mean blood sugar level than those who sleep eight hours or more consecutively a night. The independent variable of this experiment is the amount of sleep the children receive every night. This is operationalized by having two control groups, with children receiving 8 and 9 hours of sleep a night, respectively. Getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night is the recommended amount of sleep for children, so we predict that there will be no drastic changes to blood glucose levels. There will be two experimental groups, with children receiving 6 and 7 hours of sleep a night, respectively. The dependent variable is the effect on the blood sugar level. B. RESEARCH DESIGN AND FEASIBILITY This research project would be an example of explanatory research rather than exploratory or descriptive research. It is not descriptive ... • 3. The Study Of Organizational Change The study of organizational change is a subject that has attracted diverse academic discourses. Over time and across academia, scholars are concerned with various aspects change. Moreover, in spite of the various perspectives and conclusions on the subject matter, there appears to be consensus that indeed, the way change is introduced in an organization determines the success of the intended projects or strategic goals of the organization (Williams, 2006). Practically, in most of the organizations, change is viewed as a bad thing. In other words, managers may not wish to condone the resistance of their proposed projects since they delay the achievement of the goals. Hence the salient question to ask is whether resistance to change is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both cases, the relevant theories and models are invoked and a suitable synthesis applied. Conclusions are made and the answer to the essay question reiterated. In the final analysis, the essay emphasizes on the need to view change resistance in an alternative manner; as opposed to the traditional demonized approach. Resistance to Change In many cases, resistance to change is viewed and analyzed from the managerial perspective (Schultz Schultz, 2004). From the managerial point of view, resistance to change is considered as a cause to the delay in the achievement of the organization s strategic goals. Hence managers are aware of the effects of the resistance to change, such as wastage of time. As a result, change projects are introduced earlier than the actual time, so that by the time the management can mobilize consensus on the proposed change, the ideal time for the commencement of the project is fulfilled. Hayes (2002) outlines other ways of managing change, such as coercion, manipulation and dialogue with the employees. At this point, it is also necessary to realize that change is not only a property of the employees but also an aspect common with the middle level managers. According to Folger and Skarlicki (1999), such managers are reprimanded, transferred to given higher positions in order to allow the change process to take its course. In some cases, employees who resist change were sacked such as shown below. Toyota represents a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Played By Howard Schultz 1. Evaluate the role played by Howard Schultz in the growth and success of Starbucks. Is the company in danger of relying too heavily on Mr. Schultz? Howard Schultz has played an important role in the creation and expansion of Starbucks. However, Schultz was not one of the founders of Starbucks as is commonly thought. Starbucks was started in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegel, and Gordon Bowker who opened up Starbucks as a place to share their love of coffee with their customers (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland III, McGraw Hill, 2013). The first four stores did not include purchasing coffee like the Starbucks we now know. Instead, the first stores sold coffee beans which were roasted in another facility not far away, and encouraged their customers to learn more about grinding and brewing coffee at home. In 1981, Howard Schultz, vice president and general manager of US operations for a Swedish maker of stylish kitchen equipment and coffeemakers, decided to pay Starbucks a visit (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland III, McGraw Hill, 2013). Schultz s trip was out of curiosity to see why Starbucks was selling so many of his company s products. However, during his stay in Seattle, Schultz fell in love with Starbucks and shortly after returning to New York, sought a way to become more involved in the company. It took almost a year for Schultz to convince the Jerry Baldwin and Gordon Bowker that he would be a good addition to their company, but in the fall of 1982, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Shakespearean play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a feud between two families, the Montagues and Capulets forbids star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, from falling in love. Despite the feud, the two lovers continue their forbidden relationship and with that choice, their love eventually leads to their downfall. Immigration in 19th and 20th Century America During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many American nativist groups opposed free unrestricted immigration. Although racism is a main reason, there were many others. Economic, political, social and moral standards seemed to be threatened by these newcomers. The immigrants were unfamiliar of the language and customs that we take for granted in our everyday lives. The fear that gripped the nation was why people reacted so strongly against immigrants. The most common reaction to overheating is heat stroke, medically referred to as Hyperthermia. Hyperthermia occurs when the body is absorbing more heat than it can give off. The body s temperature keeps climbing due to failed thermoregulation. Thermoregulation is a homeostatic mechanism used by all living organisms to keep a stable internal core temperature. All mechanisms function for one reason, to maintain homeostasis. Usually the body reaches an internal temperature of 104°F before it goes into shock and dies. It can be caused from extreme weather conditions, drug use, other medical conditions could cause the body to not be able to stabilize the internal core temperature. In order to treat hyperthermia, doctors need to restore the temperature back to its normal 98.6°F. Serious consequences can come from hyperthermia, including tissue damage, organ damage if the tissues are damaged severely, lesions on internal organs, and sometimes fatality. Heat stroke occurs in both male and female. The illness effects people who are over 50 more severely, because they are unable to fight off the increasing heat. Circulation is also poor in elderly people due to deteriorating artery walls. This is a huge issue when dealing with hyperthermia because older people will have a harder time circulating more blood cells to damaged sites. Small children often suffer from heat stroke because they have a larger surface to weight ratio. Treatment for hyperthermia is to cool down the body, but not to the point where the patient will become hypothermic. Doctors use both internal and external techniques in order to balance the temperature. A few signs and symptoms include dizziness, confusion from the heat affecting the mental state of the patient and nausea. • 12. The Importance Of Social Disconnection And Alienation Our society should be aware of social disconnection and alienation due to the increase of technological advances. How do technological advances lead to disconnection and alienation? People can feel disconnected from reality, from themselves, or from other people. They physically alienate themselves willingly by withdrawing from a source that can be a cause of pain or discomfort; such as bullying, disagreements, past relations, family or work issues. Maria Furukawa states that Advancements, particularly in handheld devices, such as smartphones, iPads, and smart watches, have made our lives more efficient by making everything we need accessible at the tap of a screen or a swipe to the left. Essentially, technology has taken the hard work of talking to someone in person, of physically reading a book and of using our minds to do some mental math and replaced it with a device. I have noticed that technology, ironically, disconnects us from living in the present moment. Even though we try our hardest to communicate what we mean over text, there is still a possibility for miscommunication or misinterpretation of what was written. If instead, a conversation was held in person, facial expressions, changes in tone, and hand gestures are some ways that miscommunication can be avoided. (Furukawa 2017) People can create a virtual world by using these devices with the increase of screen time and internet usage. They are subjected to advertisements, unrealistic standards, online bullying and constant access to negative information. In this virtual world, there are numerous sites for social networking. In this case, people do not need to physically interact with one another and can espouse any persona to their present need. Dwight G. Dean, in his article, explains that The concept of Alienation is considered here as having three major components: Powerlessness, Normlessness, and Social Isolation. (Dean 1961) Humans by nature need interaction with other humans. It s a biological necessity. Hawkley states that As a social species, humans rely on a safe, secure social surround to survive and thrive. From my research, I have found that from 1974 to 2009 the electricity demand has more than doubled in size. Currently, most of New Zealand s energy is generated from renewable sources which mean that it can be used by future generations to come; we do not need to be concerned that they will cease to exist. However, New Zealand has been named as one of the least energy efficient countries in the world and therefore, I propose implementing strategies in order to make New Zealand more energy efficient and this will mean that less energy is wasted which will benefit New Zealand s energy supply. I propose more power stations in North Island as that would reduced line loss as most customers are in North Island so less energy is lost in transmission. Although, 75% of all energy production is already renewable, I propose for at least 90% of New Zealand s energy to be renewable in the future and this will minimise the effects of fossil fuel generation such as global warming and air pollution. Because of this, I think that the amount of wind power should be increased; we should not build nuclear power plants because uranium waste is a hazard to the environment and fossil fuel electricity use should decrease because it will run out. On the other hand in fluorescence spectroscopy the light is imparted at all angle as a result the detector misses a lot of light. This is a reason that fluorescence spectroscopy is more sensitive that UV spectroscopy. 9) As previously mentioned after absorbing energy an electron can jump from the ground state (lowest energy) to many excited states (higher energy). The UV spectroscopy uses the transitions from the ground state to the excited states, and gives results about the molecules. The claim of the patent is to present a process for use with 2.5 gallon water based fire extinguisher that uses a super absorbent polymer that transforms water into a fire extinguishing or preventing substance or gel. This super absorbent polymer gel will bring fires under control more quickly, thus offering substantial water and timesaving...the water swollen gel provides a greater water laden surface area, with a higher heat capacity, than the unbound water molecule. Thus, more water actually reaches the fire without being evaporated and therefore provides more cooling of the fire. Thus, the fire is extinguished using less water . • 25. The Moon Compare To The Moons Of Other Planets Project 1: How Does the Moon Compare to the Moons of Other Planets Earth s moon did not always exist. According to a theory known as the Big Whack, a roving planetoid, Theia, and the ancient Earth were on the same plane in the solar system. Theia, which is believed to have been at least the size of Mars, collided with the ancient Earth approximately 4.5 billion years ago. The resulting debris, material from the ancient Earth s mantle, is what is said to have formed our current day moon. All of the debris broke off of the ancient Earth and proceeded to fill the air. All of this debris then eventually congealed and formed a solid moon. When making a comparison between our moon and those of other planets it is interesting to view the number of moons each planet has, their size, and their proportion of mass as compared to the planet. Within the terrestrial planets, Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one moon, and Mars has two. Earth has only one moon and this moon is only 1.2% of the mass of Earth. Mars has two moons and they are 0.00002% of the mass of the planet. The Jovian planets have a much larger number of moons. Jupiter has sixty seven, Saturn has fifty three, Uranus has twenty seven, and Neptune has thirteen. Jupiter s many moons are 0.013% of the mass of the planet as a whole. In literary symbolism, a minister is applied as a symbol of light, happiness and peace. Hawthorne takes this symbol and instead transforms Hooper into a representation of distress and obscurity. The rumor Our parson has gone mad! (2432), becomes the general consensus of the surrounding community. In this specific condemnation Hawthorne skillfully uses the word mad in this sentence to portray various contexts. Firstly, the word mad is used to describe the mental state of the Minister but it is also applied to depiction of the condition concerning the community s sense of ordinariness. This coincides with the public s view that the Minister has become deranged because they assume that he is hiding his identity from the community. Secondly, the connotation of the word mad is that the community is slowly going mad because of the lack of knowledge of what is happening with Mr. Hooper. Hawthorne also introduces a personal response from one of the public that reads: ...I would not be alone with him for the world (2433), which describes the mistrust of their minister that, in turn, is influencing them to become mad . There are several more causes for wrinkles in mankind s history. In fact, Ronald Wright argues that not only the idea of history repeating itself, but also the idea of mankind progressing to the point that progress becomes detrimental to mankind will result in the extinction of mankind.
