Truman America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an
unbeatable determination to do the job at hand Harry S Truman, this quote shows that nothing will get
in Truman s way and he will get around every obstacle. Truman, born May 8th 1884 in Lamar MO.
Unlike some other presidents and people of importance, Truman was not born into a family of wealth.
Without money Truman became successful through his work ethic and determination. Despite all of
Truman s struggles he always found a way to get through. Truman changed millions of lives, he

morning Truman had to milk a cow just so he was able to have milk for breakfast. But that s not all
Truman had to do to maintain happiness in the Truman household, he also had to slip wood, carry it,
and put it in the wood box behind the stove so he could get up in the morning to start a fire for
breakfast. When he was thirteen Truman would go to work before and after school and on the
weekends just to provide for his family and make money for college. In 1902 the Truman s moved to
Kansas City, where Truman found a job as a utility clerk at the national bank of commerce. Kansas

1917 Truman worked on and helped manage the family farm near Grand View, Missouri. Even though
Truman worked long hours on the farm he still had the energy to do outside activities. While in
Kansas City he had enlisted in the Missouri national guard. Since Truman s family did not have

There are no advantages to accountants focusing only on financial information. Both the accountant
and the organization would suffer if this occurred. Moreover, it would be very costly to have two
systems rather than one that captures and processes operational facts at the same time as it captures
and reports financial facts.
The main disadvantage of accountants focusing only on financial information is that accountants
would ignore much relevant information about the organization s activities. To the extent that such
non financial information (e.g., market share, customer satisfaction, measures of quality, etc.) is
important to management, the value of the accounting function would decline. Moreover, accountants
have been trained in how to design systems to maximize the reliability of the information produced. If
relevant information is not produced by the AIS, there is danger that the information may be unreliable
because the people responsible for its production have not been trained in, or adequately aware of, the
potential threats to reliability and the best measures for dealing with those threats.

Developments Of Securing The Nation s Ports
Developments in securing the nation s ports have occurred since September 11, 2001:
According to American Association of Ports Authorities (n. d) the United States is served by some 360
commercial ports that provide approximately 3,200 cargo and passenger handling facilities and there

It Is Better to Have Tried and Failed Than to Have Never...
It s better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all Do you agree?
The saying actions speak louder than words can be applied to this scenario. Many people often dare to
dream but fear stops them from ever moving forward on their goals. The fear of failure, of not
knowing if it is possible to accomplish what may seem like the most unrealistic dream a person sets
out to achieve. One example we can learn from is one of the greatest swimmer the world has seen, Ian
Thorpe.
Four time Swimming World s Swimmer of the Year, Ian Thorpe once said, I think it s better to attempt
something and fail than it is to not even attempt it, so I m glad that I ve been prepared to put myself on

Speaking from personal experience, failure is the mother of success, and without overcoming the
challenge posed to me, I would not make it a step further. For example, ever since I stepped on the
podium in the primary school swimming nationals, I have always wanted to have the chance to do it
again in the secondary school, scoring more points for my school. This year was the last year the
school nationals where I could have a chance on stepping on the podium once again and I made use of
the opportunity I was given. I started training extremely hard, to a point where I was at the pool at 5 in
the morning and back again after school at 4 in the afternoon for strength as well as water training.
The number of times I would turn up could go up to ten times a week. This arduous task went on for
four to five months and in between, I still had to make sure that I was keeping up with school
curriculum. At the recent national schools, I competed and instead was placed 5th, missing the podium
by a whopping one second. Although I failed to reach the goal I set out to achieve, I knew that there
was nothing else I could do as

Fun with Dick and Jane Essay
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)
Starring: Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, and Alec Baldwin
In need of some light hearted entertainment and a good laugh, I chose the movie Fun with Dick and
Jane for this assignment. Fun with Dick and Jane asks the common question, What is the difference
between a corporate crook and a bank robber? The movie opens with Dick leaving his home in the
picture perfect neighborhood in the year 2000. Dick is married to Jane and they have a son who is
more or less being raised by the housekeeper, Blanca. The family is living in a culture of high
powered, high paying jobs, high tech appliances and high stress living. Dick and Jane have it all and
they can t get enough of it.
The first ethical issue that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This movie provides sarcastic contradictions about morality and the ethics of crime. For one short
lived moment, Dick contemplates prostituting Jane for income but of course because this is a light
hearted comedy Jane becomes furious with this suggestion. Not long after her outrage she turns to
burglary willingly. Burglary, just like prostitution, is illegal, immoral, and demoralizing. Unlike
prostitution, which is a misdemeanor, burglary is a felony. These two criminals are portrayed as good
people just trying to feed their son and keep their house, yet the same good guys in the audience who
would frown on prostitution, enthusiastically support burglary as a practical comedic maneuver. Yet, if
Dick and Jane are on the path of immorality, as conveyed by their society s parameters, they might as
well have went with prostitution as a way to make money. With Jane being such an amazing looking
woman, she could have easily earned thousands of dollars a day escorting swanky businessmen, thus
attaining the goal of quick cash less unlawfully.
The movie snidely communicates to us that dressing up as Sonny and Cher to commit armed robbery,
or taking your neighbor s car and driving it through a jewelry store window is less shameful than
selling your body. The definition of robbery is the act of robbing from a person or presence of another
by violence or threat which is considered a felony; prostituting or escorting

The TWOS (threats, opportunities, weakness, strength) matrix is a two cell by two cell matrix that
assists companies in determining strategic alternatives by examining external opportunities and treats

devising marketing plans. Both of these techniques require marketers to first identify a company or

2000 US Presidental Election Essay
Introduction
The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in
history as one of the most closest elections¡¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most
controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy
began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They finally
conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before the election
was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican candidate
George W. Bush was declared the winner of the Florida¡¦s 25 electoral votes. This was a victory by a

Another important issue in Al Gore¡¦s campaign was the protection of Social Security. This is an issue
as important to the American citizens as taxes. People are in need of being reassured that the program
remains solvent for their use when needed. American pay into the system and they expect to be
recipients in their time of need.
George W. Bush was no stranger to politics. His father is George H. Bush, the 41st President of the
United States. Son, George W. had his own career and experience working to his advantage in the
state of Texas as Governor. Early in his second term as Governor, plans were being constructed for his
run for the nation¡¦s highest office. Bush¡¦s choice for a running mate was Dick Cheney. Bush felt that
he was the best man for the position given his history in elected and appointed offices. Cheney¡¦s
resume includes serving as chief of staff under former president Gerald Ford, and secretary of defense
for his father. This decision also gave George W. the solidarity it lacked when people questioned his
experience. Cheney would be there to guide George W. in times of need.
George W. Bush ran his campaign on the philosophy of renewed moral leadership. Something that had
been lost in the Clinton Gore administration. Bush focused on issues such as providing tax cuts and
improving education. He also had a desire to change Social Security by letting people invest a portion
of their funds in

What Is The Theme Of The Lady s Last Cake By William Hogarth
The Lady s Last Stake was painted by William Hogarth in 1759 for the First Earl of Charlemont,
James Caulfield. The size of the painting itself is smaller than I expected The medium of this painting
is oil on canvas. The advantage of using oil paint on canvas is that the paint is wet longer and makes
the painting appear to be shiny. However, by using oil paint Hogarth had to follow certain rules so that
the painting would not go brittle as quickly. The painting itself appears to be unified with no chaos
depicted. There is radial balance starting where the man and the woman are painted and moves out
from there. In this painting Hogarth uses lines to emphasize a horizontal direction. This is
accomplished through invisible lines. The man that is depicted in the painting is looking towards the
object the woman rests her hand upon. This creates an obvious invisible line and establish the focal
point of the painting. The emphasis in this painting is placed on the woman. The woman proves to be
the focal point in this artwork because she is wearing a vibrant gold dress and is placed in the center of
the painting. The man leans towards her and is looking in her direction. Hogarth creates a sense of
intrigue in making the woman the focal point of the painting. The male figure gaze also establishes a
psychological line. Most of the lines Hogarth uses are thin and precise.
In the painting Hogarth depicts light using a three part window. The artist allows the viewer to have a

Feste in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Essay
Feste in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
In William Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth Night, it is ironic how many times the fool is said to be
dishonest, when, in fact, his role proves entirely opposite. Though sometimes the characters do not
realize his hidden messages, the reader can instantly comprehend Feste s figurative language, which is
evident in every scene in which the fool appears. Whether he is singing to Orsino, arguing with
Malvolio, or playing around with Viola, Feste always manages to sneak in a few symbolic foretokens
before his exit. His keen eye and fast wit help him to actively partake in the portrayal of the story,
however, the fool is merely present to express that which cannot be fully expressed through the ...

Upon closer inspection of his words, the reader can see Feste s honest assessment of character shine
through. For example, while jeering back and forth with Malvolio, Feste states, Sir Toby will be sworn
/ that I am no fox, but he will not pass his word for / twopence that you are no fool (1.5.77 79). In this
proclamation, Feste shows his perceptions of both Toby and Malvolio. He believes that Toby is not a
wise man due to the fact that, although the fool is clearly intelligent, Toby does not realize just how
crafty Feste truly is. However, Malvolio s self deception is so obviously false that even one such as
Toby, who cannot even realize Feste s ingenuity, can see through it. Later, while he is fooling around
with Toby and Andrew, Feste laughs, Did you ever see the / picture of We Three ? (2.3.16 17). This
comparison between the three characters in the scene and the famous painting of We Three, a picture
portraying only two fools, therefore implying the viewer to be a third fool, shows that Feste portrays
both Sir Toby and Andrew to be fools, along with himself as the third. One last illustration of Feste s
whimsical messages can be found while he is speaking to Sebastian. In this instance, the fool reveals
one of the play s ongoing themes by stating, No, I do not know you, ... nor your name is not Master
Cesario, ... Nothing that is so is so (4.1.5 9). To Sebastian, this statement was simply a sarcastic one,

Black Like Me, By John Howard Griffin
Over fifty years ago, a Texan named John Howard Griffin decided to start a revolutionary experiment
to change the color of his skin and experience racism in the South firsthand. While considered
extremely controversial at the time, the arguments and teachings of Griffin in his book, Black Like
Me, are still scrutinized and discussed today. The book has continued to enlighten readers to the
oppressive, violent racism in America, and aided them in realizing that racism, while it may be hidden,
is still prevalent today. It has encouraged a new generation to work towards equality, while warning
about the dangers of supremacy, to progressively improve society for all. Readers are exposed to the
fact that many deny the existence of racism by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it may be harmless, it still exists today. The idea that someone is different will subconsciously
make one act different, as Banaji experiences (Vedantam). Griffin too experiences this, when he is
hitchhiking and white males are offering him rides; he is astounded that they would ask such
provoking and private questions about his personal life. Griffin realizes that they would not ask the
same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see
them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as the white men are helping
them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so rudely and cruelly, while it may be
unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is possible to do in many ways.
As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with
harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the stereotyping
that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). Although it may be unintentional, it is easy to deny
stereotyping exists, but difficult to prove that it does not exist. As Griffin recounts, white society had
everything sewed up. If you didn t...say yes, you were in deep trouble. If you did, then you allowed
[them] to go...on believing in the stereotype (Griffin 167). He explains the idea society had created of

Conspiracy Theory Of Autism And Autism
Millions upon millions of people would die everyday form deadly disease and there was nothing
anyone could do about it. As a result, vaccinations were created to stop the sickness and mass tragedy
that came along with them. The measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations (MMR), that are supposed
to help are being questioned by people believing they are linked to Autism. Numerous studies have
shown that there is no connection between the two. The holes and lies in this theory are prevalent
when looking in depth at how this theory was established, whom it benefits if it s true, and the facts
that disprove it. Science is supposed, to tell the truth, but because humans are the ones performing the
experiments sometimes there are flaws. For instance, Andre Wakefield in 1998 of Royal Free Hospital
in London, England, said the Measles, Mumps, and rubella vaccines were to blame for autism.
Andrew Wakefield came to this conclusion based on results found in eight out of twelve children. His
results were then published in a medical journal called Lancet. Andrew Wakefield condemnation of
vaccination caused the public to become scared ( vaccinations and Autism . . .). Andrew Wakefield s
research was the starting point of the conspiracy theory that the measles, mumps, and rubella
vaccinations cause Autism. Furthermore, It made people, especially parents of autistic kids, question

More importantly, the friendship that is formed after their battle eases Gilgamesh s lonesomeness and

The next improvement that we see in Gilgamesh involves his voyage to the Cedar Forest where he and
Enkidu kill Humbaba. Gilgamesh s motives are both for his personal gain and for the good of his
people. Gilgamesh is honored for his actions and the people of Uruk enjoy the newly opened Cedar
Forest. The destruction of Humbaba and opening of the Cedar Forest provides more resources for the
people of Uruk and betters their lives. Here we see Gilgamesh uncharacteristically thinking with
others in mind. Right when Gilgamesh seems to be making progress in becoming a better king,
however, he returns to a state of selfishness after Enkidu s death. Rather than remaining in Uruk, as he
should, he travels to find Utnapishtim in search of immortality.
During Gilgamesh s search for immortality, we once again see improvement in his character. When
Utnapishtim offers Gilgamesh a rejuvenating plant, Gilgamesh plans to give it to the elderly in Uruk
rather than keeping it to himself. Here we see that Gilgamesh has been humbled. Although a snake
steals the rejuvenating plant, Gilgamesh still learns a great deal from his journey. From Utnapishtim,
Gilgamesh learns a great deal about immortality as well as responsibility. This knowledge is the final

Summary Of Respecting The Holocaust By Howard Zinn
In Respecting the Holocaust by Howard Zinn, he argues against the uniqueness of the Jewish
Holocaust . In his essay, he provides positive and critical responses to the significance of the
Holocaust. First, he starts by recalling when I was teaching in Boston University, I was asked by a
Jewish group to give a talk on the Holocaust, but he chooses to recall events that happened in
America. He elaborates on the death of hundreds of thousands of peasants in Guatemala and El
Salvador. Zinn s point is to not focus on the Holocaust only, but enlarge the Holocaust to also include
other events that happen in other parts of the world. He concludes his argument by stating that what
happened to the Jews is only unique in its details, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By increasing our knowledge about other events that happen around the world, we learn more about
other traditions and increase diversity without any discrimination in favor of any race, culture, or
religion. For example, in the website (www.bbc.co.uk), France had many occurring attacks by Muslim
extremists and terrorists in the last month because of differences in ideologies and beliefs. Some of
these attacks occurred in the Bataclan concert hall, Casa Nostra pizza restaurant, and outside of the
Stade de France soccer stadium. Some attackers were using guns and shooting people while suicide
bombers took innocent lives with them. Doing so, terrorists were thinking that killing people is
justified according to their beliefs (www.bbc.co.uk). These terrorists believe that anyone who does not
agree with their beliefs or customs should be discriminated against and killed. I think that what
happened in France was caused by the different ideologies and close mindedness toward other
traditions and beliefs. The differences in ideologies that were the main causes for the attack on France
share the same characteristics with the Holocaust in which both events are a result of different
ideologies and un approval of other beliefs or customs. Therefore, I think that what occurred in France
and is still happening in other parts of the world should receive the same importance as the Holocaust.
Zinn in his essay (Respecting the Holocaust) agrees that we should acknowledge that humankind is all
one, and there is no difference between colors, nationality, or religion and that all humans deserve
equal rights which are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As a result of considering
other events as well as the Holocaust, there will be more cultural integration without the base for
discrimination against race, culture or religion as what happened during the Holocaust or

Protection of participants rights
 Were appropriate procedures used to safeguard the rights of study participants? Was the study
subject to external review by an IRB/ethics review board?
 Was the study designed to minimize risks and maximize benefits to participants? This is a small
scale study done in preparation for a major study so an IRB/ethics review board was not consulted.
The consent provisions were followed with all study participants. The tests were administered then
participants took information home to read and look over for a test retest in two weeks.
Research design
 Was the most rigorous possible design used, given the purpose of the research?
 Were appropriate comparisons made to enhance interpretability of the findings?
 Was the number of data collection points appropriate?
 Did the design minimize biases and threats to the internal, construct, and external validity of the
study (e.g., was blinding used, was attrition minimized)?
External validity of the small sampling cause concerns for generalizability of results. As mentioned in
the Discussion section of the research, 106 and 130 participants per groups would be an appropriate
sample size. The most rigorous possible design was not used in this research. One weakness is
utilizing the 1953 and 1969 evaluation tools to compare and contrast to the year 2013. Content validity

The People s Insurance Company Of Canada
Name : Dolphine Bisase
Id : 213349311
Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990
While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an
organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of
the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the
superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the
highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both
mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and
mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the
grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain
of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is
clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while there may be an
open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices. Similarly, while the
the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such as new purchases had to
be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Thus, the chain of command is very rigid
in terms of its senior decision makers. In terms of centralization of decision making, it appears that

The Rise of National Socialism Essay
The Rise of National Socialism The rise of National Socialism in Germany resulted in World War II
and the Holocaust. The signing of the Treaty of Versisad in 1919 proclaimed that over 10 million were
killed in the first World War and Germany must take the blame and pay for all the damage. This
meeting set up three goals: Repayment from Germany for all the damage occurred (12 13 billion
dollars), to ensure the Germany would never be able to pose this kind of threat again, and to make sure
this situation could never happen anywhere ever again. To help accomplish these three tasks they put

By the end of 1933, 37,000 Jews had fled the country. On August 2, 1934 the president, Hindenberg,
died and the very next day Hitler ,the chancellor, was appointed president until an election could be
held. This made Hitler the absolute head of Germany. This is the setting and scene which Hitler (1889
1945), Frankl (1905 1997), and Sartre (1905 1980) wrote their different opinions on life and how their
lives had been affected by the conditions all around them. The Holocaust was a terrible event in
history, but if we take the information and learn from the mistakes made perhaps we can keep this
from happening again in the future. Three influential men wrote books on this event each with a
different point of view. Hitler, in his book Mein Kampf, shows us a great demonstration of the power
of persuasive writing. While very few agree with what he did, he was able to convince an entire nation
that what he was saying was right. Frankl wrote about his concentration camp experience and was a
tremendous witness to people that you always have a choice. He believed that life is taking
responsibility to find answers to your problems. How you react to your problems is always up to you.
Finally Sartre also believed that man has an active roll in his own destiny. Sartre wrote Existentialism
is a Humanism, and in his book he addresses his belief that being in itself has no meaning we must
assign a meaning to it. His belief in

The Cultural Value Model Of Japan And Japan
The cultural value model that is being used in this outline is Hofstede s Model. Although Japan and
America have quite a few economic and technologic similarities, they contrast in many ways. The
biggest difference between these two countries is Individualism vs. Collectivism. Hofstede himself
finds that both of these cultures differ significantly on most these diminesions (Shah).
PART 1: Compare and Contrast Cultural Values
Power Distance
Power distance in cultures refers to the way that power is distributed between people. It can be
measured by the extent of how individuals within that culture accept who has power and who doesn t.
In places with a lower power distance, individuals act equal regardless of their formal positions. Japan
places much more emphasis on power distance in their culture than America does. This is because it s
a lot more hierarchical. While some individuals in America lack respect for those in higher positions,
this is simply not tolerated in Japan. For example, direct eye contract when speaking to someone who
has more authority is frowned upon in Japan. The differences in power distance between these two
cultures was clear from the movie as every Japanese person knew their role and what was expected
from them. The Americans working in the factory were more selfish and disrespectful towards
management. Insubordination is not tolerated in Japan like it is in America.

The Invention Of China s Inventions
On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around the world. Each one
of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live their lives. China is one of the
leading providers to the United States. They have also made various inventions that people benefit
from today.
One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD and has become
a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to make paper was a variety of fibrous
materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The process of making paper would take up to thirty days to
construct. The production of paper was a rigorous process that China held secret for hundreds of years.
Despite the fact that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper to go from a
complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous production with the use of
machinery.
People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered are the
ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same, paper factories use
more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional ingredients. With this technology and
different ingredients, making paper has now become much easier and faster when compared to ancient
times. It is now one of the most used item in our daily lives.
Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is gunpowder. It was first
invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has become a greatly used product around the world.
Like many of China s inventions, it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that this secret was
discovered. The first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic empire. It was then
discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe.
China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put gunpowder on one end of
a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This caused the gunpowder to explode and shoot the
metal item from the other end. This was the start of the weapons we use today.
The first ingredients that gunpowder was made with was a mixture of sulfur,

accepted and loved by her immensely large pride. Joy s pride blinded her from recognizing the
vulnerability and victimism she held near with Manly Pointer. She became close to Manly Pointer due
to the absence of acceptance of love and acceptance in her home. O Connor exhibits the internal

worldly love but that one needs more. Manly Pointer brings the sense of more through his business of

The Economic Status Of Older Women
The Economic Status Of Older Women In Canada
Studies have shown economic disparities between married women, unmarried women, and those who
are divorced or separated later in life. Each of these women will experience a different standard of
living and financial well being based on the circumstances of their life course (Davies Denton, 2002).
In 2008 women living alone had the highest rate of low income with an after tax poverty rate of 17%,
while men had a 12% after tax poverty rate (Milan Vezina, 2011, as cited in Novak, Campbell,
Northcott, 2014, p. 193). Studies show that separated and divorced women are the poorest of all older
unattached women in Canada and the group that should be the focus of public concern. In this paper I

Not all unattached women are the same when it comes to their economic well being at older ages.
Older women who were never married tend to better off financially because of their commitment to
the labour force throughout their adult years. With a greater number of years working they are able to
collect higher Canadian/Quebec Pension payments (Davies Denton, 2002). Widows tend to be worse
off financially than those who were never married, but better off than those who were separated or
divorced in mid and later years. This difference is because a widow can benefit from the assets left
behind by their husband, as well as receives C/QPP payments (Davies Denton, 2002).
Going through a separation or divorce in mid and later life increases the likelihood of an elderly
woman living in poverty. According to Davies Denton (2002), a woman who is married may rely on
her husband s financial resources for security later in life. As such, she may not do any retirement
planning of her own. A woman who divorces later in life is left with a very short and unrealistic
amount of time to build up her own savings before turning 65. Davies Denton (2002) found that
retired divorcees are least likely of all women to rate their income as adequate to meet their needs.

Market Entry Strategies
Market Entry Strategies
Sam C. Okoroafo Modes of Entering Foreign Markets
Okoroafo produced an article detailing a four step strategic model that firms should take into account
when deciding modes of entering foreign markets. The model consists of four steps:
1. Determine the feasible modes of operation (MOO)
There are many modes of operation suggested by many different researchers; however, Some
countries may prohibit use of some MOOs for reasons related to achieving their economic objectives .
This is supported by the suggestion of barriers to entry or threat of new entrants outlined in Porter s
Five Forces model. This is a factor that should be seriously considered by any firm producing
alcoholic beverages as there are more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this method of market entry may be considered as the European firm will be new to the
Australian market and will need some help in establishing their products and brand.
Joint ventures
When setting up joint ventures and alliances, there is a detailed formal agreement which outlines who
is involved in the business, who owns the assets, the management and control of the business, and
termination of the venture. This means that there is shared risk, shared knowledge and expertise and
ultimately a competitive advantage if two firms are in partnership with each other. However this might
mean that the competition is reduced and therefore Porter s National Diamond framework that
suggests that rivalry and competition strengthens a business national advantage is weaker.
Strategic Alliances, mergers and Acquisitions
A strategic alliance is defined in International business 5th edition (Rugman and Collinson) as a
business relationship in which two or more companies work together to achieve a collective advantage
The benefits of developing a strategic alliance for the European firm would be that they would be able
to acquire knowledge of new markets and technology, develop closer links with their suppliers and
customers and to reduce the pressure of competing with large competitors who are already established
in the Australian market.
If the European firm was to consider a

Summary Of 13 Rules For Female Friendship By Roxanne Gay
Girls can t be friends.... Girls are way too catty all they do is fight....Women can t stand to see the
other succeeding, in the lifespan of all people almost everyone has heard something negative about the
lack of love women have for each other and that women cannot be friends no matter what. Well one
woman dares to say differently that women cannot be there for each other. Roxanne Gay takes this
stance in her article the, 13 Rules for Female Friendship, Gay proposes that women need to get rid of
the preconceived notions that women cannot be friends that support and work with each other. She
takes apart the issues within the female community and the lack of love towards each other. For this
article it appears as though she wrote this for the modern woman audience. She takes an issue about
woman and friendship; which in the grand scheme of things is a mountainous issue. She takes this
issue and places it in a way that is easy to address and very simple and easy to digest for the reader.
This is an article that a lots for a quick but powerful read for the woman that is on the go and

The United States Antitrust Laws
INTRODUCTION Through the course of this paper I will introduce and discuss the history of the
movement towards an actively and engaged antitrust legislation. I will also identify the original and
early antitrust laws and how they have influenced the economy, as we know it today. Upon the
completion of this paper you will understand who was set to benefit (gain) from anti legislation and
who loses under the intentions of the antitrust laws today and in the past.
LITERATURE REVIEW The United States antitrust legislation is a legislation designed to break up
and prevent the formation of new monopolies to increase competition and societal welfare. Thus the
United State Antitrust law is a collection of both state and federal government laws enacted to
promote fair competition in the economy. The antitrust laws main statutes consist of the Sherman Act
of 1890, the Clayton Act of 1914 and the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914. In combination
these acts have enforced the proper rules and regulations that businesses must conform to today to
ensure that there is a healthy competition within the economy to not only the benefit of the consumers
who utilize these services and goods but for the health of the businesses who make up our market
industries. While Rockefeller s Standard Oil is a well known example of an early monopoly a few
other examples of early monopolistic companies are known as The Whisky Trust, and the Tobacco
Trust, Sugar Trust and J.P. Morgan s U.S. Steel

Summary Of KeatsOde To A Nightingale
Keats Ode to a Nightingale, can be classified as one of those most well known Odes to ever be
written. Although the poem is a tough lyrical poem to understand, it is as if the poet feels the pain and
bleakness from the day to day repetitiveness of life; therefore, seeks to disappear into the make believe
world of the Nightingale to find relief which eventually leads him to acknowledgment. While listening
to the Nightingale sing, the poet describes Greek and Roman figures to enhance the feelings he is
portraying. The poet described an inconsistent life of contradictory using the concept of life and death.
As well as, representing the struggle of reality and fantasy achieved through a transformed state of
mind. One can see the poet s feelings are described by words that show the mood of the situation
while his thoughts change throughout the poem. The day to day life of the poet is filled with pain and
disappointment. Although the poem starts out with, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
(Line 1), momentarily, the poet is happy because of the singing Nightingale which he describes as,
some melodious plot (Line 8); and it Singest of summer in full throated ease (Line 10). The poet uses
musical language to give the audience the portrayal of how the bird is singing. Quickly, the narrator is
filled with agony because he remembers that life is unpleasant and could be explained in the third
stanza, Where Beauty cannot keep her lustrous eyes, Or new Love pine at

examine the internal and external factors which spurred and led to the well known theologian
Athanasius proposing the now existing New Testament books of the Holy Scriptures. The internal
factors that will be examined in this paper include: Docetism, Judaism, Gnosticism, Marcionism,
Montanism, and Apollinarianism. Secondly this paper will view how the false prophets influenced not
only the doctrine of Christ but sought to take advantage of the Church s generous heart for personal
profit and gain. The external factors this paper will evaluate are: the persecution of the church and the
influence of pagan cultures surrounding the Christian Gentiles. The events and topics covered will be
from the 1st to 3rd century AD. Lastly this paper will look at the churches response to these factors as
they will create an authoritative list of writings in which Christians can rest on and use as a foundation
for their belief in Christ. All information and data in this paper is gathered from peer reviewed,

Sorrow Definition Essay
The simple definition of sorrow is, a feeling of deep distress caused by loss, disappointment, or other
misfortune suffered by oneself or others. In other words when one is in deep sorrow, they exhibit
anguish or distress over the situation in front of themselves. Often times in showcasing sorrow over a
designated situation that sorrow becomes a component of that person. Through sorrow becoming apart

Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv show
that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the empire
expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North America and
used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and European powers
threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this was occurring a rise
in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant from the easternmost
edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders. A year after Dracula
published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien invasion novel The War of
the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs. victorian society one can see
the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker s, Dracula. In the time period
Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a wife and mother or be a virgin and
pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore and had no consequence to society. In
Dracula Lucy was seen as a whore, her physical beauty captivated each of her suitors and displayed a
comfort playfulness about her desirability. Why can t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as
want her, and save all this trouble? (Bram Stoker __). To Lucy it did not matter how she was

Sierra Club Research Paper
Today, the traditional sense of what the environment embodies has evolved with the emergence of the
technosphere, a new addition to the four natural components of Earth (aquasphere, atmosphere,
biosphere, geosphere). This man made monster threatens the Earth s longevity and stability by
drawing on natural resources to keep itself going, and damaging those natural resources with waste
products in the process. Moreover, with an education system engineered to create jobs in the
technosphere, the world s ecosystems are left to be defended by only a handful of people who
understand the legitimacy of this perpetual, systemic threat. In the modern age, environmentalists are
trying to prevent this new and unpredictable force from continuing to causing ... Show more content

Founded by Prince Bernhard of Lippe Biesterfeld (among others) in 1961, the WWF focuses on
preserving forests, marine, freshwater, wildlife, food and climate that are threatened by the growing
technosphere. Through donations, hands on work, and political action, their 5 million member army of
preservationists has amassed an endless list of accomplishments. Financially, this group has invested
over 1$ billion in more than 12,000 conservation initiatives since 1995, and in terms of hands on
work, the WWF has helped to bring many species back from the brink of extinction, including the
black rhinoceros, southern white rhinoceros, greater one horned asian rhinoceros, gray whale, african
savannah elephant, mountain gorilla, saiga (antelope), and others. Further in terms of political action,
the WWF has engaged in countless court activities to protect the environment since 1961. In fact,
following several years of advocacy by WWF and others, 18 governments signed the Ramsar
Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, which remains the world s only international
environmental treaty for a single biome (WWF, 50 Years of Achievement). This treaty has preserved
over 186,000,000,000 acres of wetlands, a number that is absolutely astonishing. More

How Choices I Have Made That Impact The Earth s Water Cycle
The Water Cycle
This essay examines choices I have made that impact the earth s water cycle. I have focused primarily
on water conservation and acknowledged my greenhouse gas contributions. I have a new appreciation
for the hydrologic cycle. I had not previously thought about the world s water supply in terms of
1.39B cubic kilometers or that only one percent of this is available as fresh water for humanity to
work with (not accounting for the polar icecaps, glaciers or ocean desalination efforts). This sounds
less, more finite then saying water covers seventy five percent of the Earth.
It was disturbing to learn that the United States used on average 355 billion gallons of water each day
in 2010 and that almost half of this water was used for thermoelectric power production. I was
surprised to learn that the many American households use upwards of one hundred thousand gallons of
water a year (Graham, Parkinson Chahine, 2010; Barber, 2014).
Initially, I approached the writing assignment thinking about my impact on the water cycle in terms of
consumption. While exploring the topic, it quickly became apparent that my indirect water
consumption was equally significant. I was familiar with the concept of a carbon footprint for many
years, and was fascinated to learn about the notion of a water footprint and viewing agricultural
products in terms of their net virtual water value (Hoekstra, 2008). This starts adding ethical
questions. Is it morally right to consume products

Diction In Catullus 101
Catullus 101 Essay Catullus 101 is an elegiac poem written by Gaius Valerius Catullus about Catullus
visiting the grave of his brother. Catullus conveys his feelings of sadness and remorse in poem one
hundred and one through his use of diction and repetition. His sadness is also revealed through the
scansion of the poem. Catullus diction in Catullus 101 unearths feelings of melancholy and anger, and
contributes to an overall grief stricken tone. Throughout the poem, he uses words and phrases such as
miseras inferias (miserable sacrafice), alloquerer cinerem (silent ashes), and fraterno multum manantia
fletu (soaking much with brotherly tears), which affirm the mournful tone of the poem (2, 4, 9). The
words he chooses to use carry a

Response To The Lottery
The story takes place in a village on June 27 where The Lottery began. Citizens of the village started
gathering around a box, filled with slips of paper. Already in the second paragraph of the story, it
hinted, Bobby Martin already stuffed his pockets full of stones , the action starts from the beginning as
to what are they going to do with those stones. The story describes how everyone is acting normal and
how they are just talking and laughing like they usually do. I think that even though they gave a hint
that the stoning will happen, there was still a hint before that quote. Just by the genre and how the title
is the Lottery it can either go really bad or really good. Jackson foreshadows this ending by telling the
reader about the stones in piles and pockets that people are protecting. He confuses the reader by
telling that everyone is talking and laughing like it was a normal day so you have to read on ... Show

There can be a different meaning to the word win , in their eyes in which it could mean, to secure as a
result of a contest . This example shows that the author uses a play on words so that it misleads you to
think it s an actual lottery. Since it is a dark genre and the story is called the lottery it gives the
impression that only one person or group will be chosen for something bad. The story is mainly
focused on a village where people choose a winner through a box that has slips of paper. These slips
of paper symbolize the equality among the villagers, in which they all have the same amount of a
chance to be stoned. This method was used back in ancient times and they still use it in the modern
day. The reason why is because of how they are so used to it that it has become a habit. No one wants
to step and say that they don t want to do it is because everyone else wants to and they don t care until

Plastic Surgery And Its Effects On Society
As time progresses, plastic surgery becomes a lot popular. Plastic surgery isn t just what s seen on TV
and on social media; plastic surgery is much more than facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast
enhancements. In fact, plastic surgery is anything that undergoes the process of reconstructing or
repairing parts of the body. (Reconstructive Surgery) The facelift Kris Jenner recently just had done is
equally considered plastic surgery as an ordinary person removing an extra finger they were born with.
These are both types of plastic surgery, but they re treated completely differently. A woman who
obtains cosmetic surgery is scorned for getting the procedure done, yet the person who went in to
remove their extra finger doesn t. In reality, these issues are quite similar. Plastic surgery is often the
last resort for those who want to desperately change how they look; those who obtain plastic surgery
are quickly judged for doing so; however, both men and women should consider the reasons why a
person might want plastic surgery; the reasons behind this may be deeper than one thought. Those
who seek plastic surgery do it for numerous reasons; one reason they obtain it is for serious medical
purposes. Those who seek plastic surgery for medical purposes are doing it to fix abnormalities caused
by accidents, birth defects, and medical issues developed over time. An example of this would be a
driver in a serious car accident having their finger torn off, by the force that hit

How To The Right Poem By Phillis Wheatley Essay
Phillis Wheatley s poem, To the Right Honourable William, Earl of Dartmouth, [...] , is her way to try
to ask for help from William regarding the abolishment of slavery. In the poem she talks about how
being a slave is a horrible and cruel life. She mentions how she was taken from her parents in Africa.
She writes, I, young in life, by seeming cruel fate was santch d from Afric s fancied happy seat (776).
She talks about freedom in hopes that others will not have to suffer the fate she has endured. At the
end of the poem is when she hints to William to use his power to help slaves. She writes, For favors

People of color are still suffering in this country. An example of this can be poverty in a lot of African
American communities. There is not a lot being done to try and help with these situations. People
being judged or not given the same opportunities because of the color of their skin is still a major issue
in America. Everyday people are speaking out about this or writing letters to our leaders in hope that
someone will try and make a change. Hoping that someone will take action to fix these issues instead
of just mentioning them for political gain. In a way this poem is trying to achieve the same thing.
Phillis is asking for equality and freedom and many people suffering from discrimination today are
asking for equality as well. A quote from her poem can still be used today, No more, America, in
mournful strain of wrongs, and grievance unredressed complain

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted
amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as the
main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics do not
want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to excessive gun
control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to influence
Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of guns the
public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as assassination
attempts on President Reagan s, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all triggered
majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key push in the
direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan presidency since he
happened to be of one of the most pro gun presidents in American history.
During the first few months of his presidency, a notorious assassination effort nearly terminated his
life. This almost tragic moment in history happened on March 30, 1981, as President Reagan finished
delivering his speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel, to a group of union members of the AFL
CIO.21. Nonetheless, unknowingly to the President s Secret Service detail was a 25 year old named
John Hinckley Jr. was waiting outside the hotel, with the determination of killing president Reagan.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) records states, at 2:25 P.M., as the President
go out of the hotel from side of the VIP entrance, and made his way to his limousine, six successive
shots were fired from Mr. Hinckley s handgun, in the direction of the President and his Secret Service
detail. The FBI accounts state, President Reagan was struck in the left chest area by a bullet along with
his press Secretary Brady who was also shot from the same spate of bullets which entered his brain
above his left eye. and also two of his Secret Service Agent McCarthy and officer Delahanty. Reagan,
Brady, McCarthy and Delahanty were dashed to the hospital, while other officers

Antigone Essay Throughout history, cultures from around the world has set hat standards for women

had less freedom and rights than their male counterparts as compare today in the modern world where
women can be more involve in society. Although women still face discrimination such as the glass

Creon would never in a million suspected Antigone to have broken his law because Creon views
women as being submissive to men and not brave enough to do such as a bold act. Once the Guard
capture Antigone caught in the act of trying to finish the burial of Polynieces, Creon is in disbelief
because the perpetrator of the crime is not a man but a girl. When Creon asks Antigone if she bury her
brother, she answers I admit I did it. I won t deny that. (Sophocles 500). She does not hesitate when
she tell Creon that she bury actually she proudly admits what she did and justify her act because it is
the will of the gods which upset Creon even more Here she again displays her proud contempt having
done the act, she boast of it (Sophocles 546 547). Creon does not even talk directly to Antigone at first
but face the Chorus Leader because is still in shock a girl would be brave enough to break the law and
disobey him. Later Creon and Antigone began to argue whether or not it is right or wrong for
Polyneices not to be bury. One of the

Examples Of Justice In To Kill A Mockingbird
Justice can mean lots of things some may think justice involves some sort of high power like the law
and government. Others might think it s being fair but then there are those people who think justice
doesn t exist. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is the story of young Scout and her point of view
during a trial her father had to defend. Justice is not a universal guaranteed to everyone such as there
is such a corrupt society. For instance Tom and Boo Radley weren t fortunate to get.
To illustrate how justice is a thing for people who fit a certain criteria, Tom Robinson was a black man
who was accused of sexual assaulted. All the evidence brought up in court by Atticus Finch, his
lawyer made it all clear that Tom was innocent. The disadvantage is that trial wasn t fair, the entire
jury was white. Not to mention the court room was segregated by having the people of color sit far
from the white people. As Atticus states In our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black s
man the white man always wins. (Pg 252) Since this takes place in the 30s it was obvious that Tom
wouldn t got justice. In this time period everything was heavily segregated and prejudicism was so
common. The reality is that even though this is a fictional story cases like this did in fact happen.
Many men like Tom were falsely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand Harry S Truman, this quote shows that nothing will get in Truman s way and he will get around every obstacle. Truman, born May 8th 1884 in Lamar MO. Unlike some other presidents and people of importance, Truman was not born into a family of wealth. Without money Truman became successful through his work ethic and determination. Despite all of Truman s struggles he always found a way to get through. John Truman, Harry s father was a livestock trader. The Truman family settled in independence, Missouri. In school Truman succeeded, he was a very strong student. Every night and morning Truman had to milk a cow just so he was able to have milk for breakfast. But that s not all Truman had to do to maintain happiness in the Truman household, he also had to slip wood, carry it, and put it in the wood box behind the stove so he could get up in the morning to start a fire for breakfast. When he was thirteen Truman would go to work before and after school and on the weekends just to provide for his family and make money for college. In 1902 the Truman s moved to Kansas City, where Truman found a job as a utility clerk at the national bank of commerce. Kansas City was a thriving metropolis in the early years of the century. During school Truman was an avid reader, he spent a lot of time reading books from the Independence public library. From 1906 until 1917 Truman worked on and helped manage the family farm near Grand View, Missouri. Even though Truman worked long hours on the farm he still had the energy to do outside activities. Both the accountant and the organization would suffer if this occurred. Moreover, it would be very costly to have two systems rather than one that captures and processes operational facts at the same time as it captures and reports financial facts. The main disadvantage of accountants focusing only on financial information is that accountants would ignore much relevant information about the organization s activities. To the extent that such non financial information (e.g., market share, customer satisfaction, measures of quality, etc.) is important to management, the value of the accounting function would decline. Moreover, accountants have been trained in how to design systems to maximize the reliability of the information produced. If relevant information is not produced by the AIS, there is danger that the information may be unreliable because the people responsible for its production have not been trained in, or adequately aware of, the potential threats to reliability and the best measures for dealing with those threats. • 5. It Is Better to Have Tried and Failed Than to Have Never... It s better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all Do you agree? The saying actions speak louder than words can be applied to this scenario. Many people often dare to dream but fear stops them from ever moving forward on their goals. The fear of failure, of not knowing if it is possible to accomplish what may seem like the most unrealistic dream a person sets out to achieve. One example we can learn from is one of the greatest swimmer the world has seen, Ian Thorpe. Four time Swimming World s Swimmer of the Year, Ian Thorpe once said, I think it s better to attempt something and fail than it is to not even attempt it, so I m glad that I ve been prepared to put myself on the line there. Speaking from personal experience, failure is the mother of success, and without overcoming the challenge posed to me, I would not make it a step further. For example, ever since I stepped on the podium in the primary school swimming nationals, I have always wanted to have the chance to do it again in the secondary school, scoring more points for my school. This year was the last year the school nationals where I could have a chance on stepping on the podium once again and I made use of the opportunity I was given. I started training extremely hard, to a point where I was at the pool at 5 in the morning and back again after school at 4 in the afternoon for strength as well as water training. The number of times I would turn up could go up to ten times a week. This arduous task went on for four to five months and in between, I still had to make sure that I was keeping up with school curriculum. At the recent national schools, I competed and instead was placed 5th, missing the podium by a whopping one second. Although I failed to reach the goal I set out to achieve, I knew that there was nothing else I could do as I have always wanted to represent the country in the Combined School Games and the recent National Schools Swimming Championship would have been my chance to qualify for the games. • 6. Fun with Dick and Jane Essay Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) Starring: Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, and Alec Baldwin In need of some light hearted entertainment and a good laugh, I chose the movie Fun with Dick and Jane for this assignment. Fun with Dick and Jane asks the common question, What is the difference between a corporate crook and a bank robber? The movie opens with Dick leaving his home in the picture perfect neighborhood in the year 2000. Dick is married to Jane and they have a son who is more or less being raised by the housekeeper, Blanca. The family is living in a culture of high powered, high paying jobs, high tech appliances and high stress living. Dick and Jane have it all and they can t get enough of it. For one short lived moment, Dick contemplates prostituting Jane for income but of course because this is a light hearted comedy Jane becomes furious with this suggestion. Not long after her outrage she turns to burglary willingly. Burglary, just like prostitution, is illegal, immoral, and demoralizing. Unlike prostitution, which is a misdemeanor, burglary is a felony. These two criminals are portrayed as good people just trying to feed their son and keep their house, yet the same good guys in the audience who would frown on prostitution, enthusiastically support burglary as a practical comedic maneuver. Yet, if Dick and Jane are on the path of immorality, as conveyed by their society s parameters, they might as well have went with prostitution as a way to make money. With Jane being such an amazing looking woman, she could have easily earned thousands of dollars a day escorting swanky businessmen, thus attaining the goal of quick cash less unlawfully. The movie snidely communicates to us that dressing up as Sonny and Cher to commit armed robbery, or taking your neighbor s car and driving it through a jewelry store window is less shameful than selling your body. The definition of robbery is the act of robbing from a person or presence of another by violence or threat which is considered a felony; prostituting or escorting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It will go down in history as one of the most closest elections¡¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They finally conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before the election was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Bush was no stranger to politics. His father is George H. Bush, the 41st President of the United States. Son, George W. had his own career and experience working to his advantage in the state of Texas as Governor. Early in his second term as Governor, plans were being constructed for his run for the nation¡¦s highest office. Bush¡¦s choice for a running mate was Dick Cheney. Bush felt that he was the best man for the position given his history in elected and appointed offices. This decision also gave George W. the solidarity it lacked when people questioned his experience. Cheney would be there to guide George W. in times of need. George W. • 9. What Is The Theme Of The Lady s Last Cake By William Hogarth The Lady s Last Stake was painted by William Hogarth in 1759 for the First Earl of Charlemont, James Caulfield. The size of the painting itself is smaller than I expected The medium of this painting is oil on canvas. The advantage of using oil paint on canvas is that the paint is wet longer and makes the painting appear to be shiny. However, by using oil paint Hogarth had to follow certain rules so that the painting would not go brittle as quickly. The painting itself appears to be unified with no chaos depicted. There is radial balance starting where the man and the woman are painted and moves out from there. In this painting Hogarth uses lines to emphasize a horizontal direction. This is accomplished through invisible lines. The man that is depicted in the painting is looking towards the object the woman rests her hand upon. This creates an obvious invisible line and establish the focal point of the painting. The emphasis in this painting is placed on the woman. The woman proves to be the focal point in this artwork because she is wearing a vibrant gold dress and is placed in the center of the painting. The man leans towards her and is looking in her direction. Hogarth creates a sense of intrigue in making the woman the focal point of the painting. The male figure gaze also establishes a psychological line. Most of the lines Hogarth uses are thin and precise. In the painting Hogarth depicts light using a three part window. • 10. Feste in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Essay Feste in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night In William Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth Night, it is ironic how many times the fool is said to be dishonest, when, in fact, his role proves entirely opposite. Though sometimes the characters do not realize his hidden messages, the reader can instantly comprehend Feste s figurative language, which is evident in every scene in which the fool appears. Whether he is singing to Orsino, arguing with Malvolio, or playing around with Viola, Feste always manages to sneak in a few symbolic foretokens before his exit. His keen eye and fast wit help him to actively partake in the portrayal of the story, however, the fool is merely present to express that which cannot be fully expressed through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upon closer inspection of his words, the reader can see Feste s honest assessment of character shine through. For example, while jeering back and forth with Malvolio, Feste states, Sir Toby will be sworn / that I am no fox, but he will not pass his word for / twopence that you are no fool (1.5.77 79). In this proclamation, Feste shows his perceptions of both Toby and Malvolio. He believes that Toby is not a wise man due to the fact that, although the fool is clearly intelligent, Toby does not realize just how crafty Feste truly is. However, Malvolio s self deception is so obviously false that even one such as Toby, who cannot even realize Feste s ingenuity, can see through it. Later, while he is fooling around with Toby and Andrew, Feste laughs, Did you ever see the / picture of We Three ? (2.3.16 17). This comparison between the three characters in the scene and the famous painting of We Three, a picture portraying only two fools, therefore implying the viewer to be a third fool, shows that Feste portrays both Sir Toby and Andrew to be fools, along with himself as the third. One last illustration of Feste s whimsical messages can be found while he is speaking to Sebastian. In this instance, the fool reveals one of the play s ongoing themes by stating, No, I do not know you, ... nor your name is not Master Cesario, ... Nothing that is so is so (4.1.5 9). Black Like Me, By John Howard Griffin Over fifty years ago, a Texan named John Howard Griffin decided to start a revolutionary experiment to change the color of his skin and experience racism in the South firsthand. While considered extremely controversial at the time, the arguments and teachings of Griffin in his book, Black Like Me, are still scrutinized and discussed today. The book has continued to enlighten readers to the oppressive, violent racism in America, and aided them in realizing that racism, while it may be hidden, is still prevalent today. It has encouraged a new generation to work towards equality, while warning about the dangers of supremacy, to progressively improve society for all. The idea that someone is different will subconsciously make one act different, as Banaji experiences (Vedantam). Griffin too experiences this, when he is hitchhiking and white males are offering him rides; he is astounded that they would ask such provoking and private questions about his personal life. Griffin realizes that they would not ask the same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as the white men are helping them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so rudely and cruelly, while it may be unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is possible to do in many ways. As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the stereotyping that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). Although it may be unintentional, it is easy to deny stereotyping exists, but difficult to prove that it does not exist. As Griffin recounts, white society had everything sewed up. If you didn t...say yes, you were in deep trouble. If you did, then you allowed [them] to go...on believing in the stereotype (Griffin 167). As a result, vaccinations were created to stop the sickness and mass tragedy that came along with them. The measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations (MMR), that are supposed to help are being questioned by people believing they are linked to Autism. Numerous studies have shown that there is no connection between the two. The holes and lies in this theory are prevalent when looking in depth at how this theory was established, whom it benefits if it s true, and the facts that disprove it. Science is supposed, to tell the truth, but because humans are the ones performing the experiments sometimes there are flaws. For instance, Andre Wakefield in 1998 of Royal Free Hospital in London, England, said the Measles, Mumps, and rubella vaccines were to blame for autism. Andrew Wakefield came to this conclusion based on results found in eight out of twelve children. His results were then published in a medical journal called Lancet. Andrew Wakefield condemnation of vaccination caused the public to become scared ( vaccinations and Autism . . .). Andrew Wakefield s research was the starting point of the conspiracy theory that the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations cause Autism. Furthermore, It made people, especially parents of autistic kids, question and lose trust in vaccinations. Without Wakefield s research people, might not question vaccinations as much as ... In his essay, he provides positive and critical responses to the significance of the Holocaust. First, he starts by recalling when I was teaching in Boston University, I was asked by a Jewish group to give a talk on the Holocaust, but he chooses to recall events that happened in America. He elaborates on the death of hundreds of thousands of peasants in Guatemala and El Salvador. For example, in the website (www.bbc.co.uk), France had many occurring attacks by Muslim extremists and terrorists in the last month because of differences in ideologies and beliefs. Some of these attacks occurred in the Bataclan concert hall, Casa Nostra pizza restaurant, and outside of the Stade de France soccer stadium. Some attackers were using guns and shooting people while suicide bombers took innocent lives with them. Doing so, terrorists were thinking that killing people is justified according to their beliefs (www.bbc.co.uk). These terrorists believe that anyone who does not agree with their beliefs or customs should be discriminated against and killed. I think that what happened in France was caused by the different ideologies and close mindedness toward other traditions and beliefs. The differences in ideologies that were the main causes for the attack on France share the same characteristics with the Holocaust in which both events are a result of different ideologies and un approval of other beliefs or customs. Therefore, I think that what occurred in France and is still happening in other parts of the world should receive the same importance as the Holocaust. Zinn in his essay (Respecting the Holocaust) agrees that we should acknowledge that humankind is all one, and there is no difference between colors, nationality, or religion and that all humans deserve equal rights which are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As a result of considering other events as well as the Holocaust, there will be more cultural integration without the base for discrimination against race, culture or religion as what happened during the Holocaust or ... The People s Insurance Company Of Canada Name : Dolphine Bisase Id : 213349311 Assignment: Midterm Assignment, Management 3990 While the intention was that the People s Insurance Company of Canada (PICC) would have an organic organizational structure, this intention was at least partially offset by the close integration of the Insurance company with the parent People s Bank. The result was an entity in which the superficially organic, generally non hierarchical Insurance organization has been overridden by the highly hierarchical and mechanistic bank organization. The PICC s actual structure has both mechanistic and organic aspects. With regard to work specialization, it is generally narrow and mechanistic with the VP for HR, Mary Thorne, fighting an ongoing battle with the Bank on the grounds that PICC needed staff with specialized skills in the insurance industry. With respect to chain of command, while the structure of PICC was intended to be open, non hierarchical and organic, it is clear that it is generally mechanistic in its most important aspects. For example, while there may be an open office environment in general, the senior team members have private offices. Similarly, while the the emphasis of PICC is towards self managing teams, many approvals such as new purchases had to be signed off by multiple layers of the bank s management. Thus, the chain of command is very rigid in terms of its senior decision makers. In terms of centralization of decision making, it appears that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Holocaust was a terrible event in history, but if we take the information and learn from the mistakes made perhaps we can keep this from happening again in the future. Three influential men wrote books on this event each with a different point of view. Hitler, in his book Mein Kampf, shows us a great demonstration of the power of persuasive writing. Frankl wrote about his concentration camp experience and was a tremendous witness to people that you always have a choice. Although Japan and America have quite a few economic and technologic similarities, they contrast in many ways. The biggest difference between these two countries is Individualism vs. Collectivism. Hofstede himself finds that both of these cultures differ significantly on most these diminesions (Shah). PART 1: Compare and Contrast Cultural Values Power Distance Power distance in cultures refers to the way that power is distributed between people. It can be measured by the extent of how individuals within that culture accept who has power and who doesn t. In places with a lower power distance, individuals act equal regardless of their formal positions. Japan places much more emphasis on power distance in their culture than America does. This is because it s a lot more hierarchical. While some individuals in America lack respect for those in higher positions, this is simply not tolerated in Japan. For example, direct eye contract when speaking to someone who has more authority is frowned upon in Japan. The differences in power distance between these two cultures was clear from the movie as every Japanese person knew their role and what was expected from them. The Americans working in the factory were more selfish and disrespectful towards management. Insubordination is not tolerated in Japan like it is in America. Older women who were never married tend to better off financially because of their commitment to the labour force throughout their adult years. Widows tend to be worse off financially than those who were never married, but better off than those who were separated or divorced in mid and later years. This difference is because a widow can benefit from the assets left behind by their husband, as well as receives C/QPP payments (Davies Denton, 2002). Going through a separation or divorce in mid and later life increases the likelihood of an elderly woman living in poverty. According to Davies Denton (2002), a woman who is married may rely on her husband s financial resources for security later in life. As such, she may not do any retirement planning of her own. • 36. Summary Of KeatsOde To A Nightingale Keats Ode to a Nightingale, can be classified as one of those most well known Odes to ever be written. Although the poem is a tough lyrical poem to understand, it is as if the poet feels the pain and bleakness from the day to day repetitiveness of life; therefore, seeks to disappear into the make believe world of the Nightingale to find relief which eventually leads him to acknowledgment. While listening to the Nightingale sing, the poet describes Greek and Roman figures to enhance the feelings he is portraying. The poet described an inconsistent life of contradictory using the concept of life and death. As well as, representing the struggle of reality and fantasy achieved through a transformed state of mind. One can see the poet s feelings are described by words that show the mood of the situation while his thoughts change throughout the poem. The day to day life of the poet is filled with pain and disappointment. Although the poem starts out with, My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains (Line 1), momentarily, the poet is happy because of the singing Nightingale which he describes as, some melodious plot (Line 8); and it Singest of summer in full throated ease (Line 10). The poet uses musical language to give the audience the portrayal of how the bird is singing. Quickly, the narrator is filled with agony because he remembers that life is unpleasant and could be explained in the third stanza, Where Beauty cannot keep her lustrous eyes, Or new Love pine at ... • 40. Dracula Compared To Modern Society Why are people so obsessed with vampires today that they go crazy over any book, movie, or tv show that has a vampire? In 1897, the year Dracula was published Britain was at the height of the empire expanding. Britain had conquered huge expanses of land from Africa, Asia, and North America and used the land for military and economic power. The rise of the United States and European powers threatened to unseat Britain and the world s most powerful nation, at the time this was occurring a rise in immigration brought unfamiliar races and cultures. Dracula, as an immigrant from the easternmost edge of Europe represented many of the popular prejudices against outsiders. A year after Dracula published, British author H.G. Wells exploited similar anxieties in his alien invasion novel The War of the World s. When comparing vampires adaptation to modern society vs. victorian society one can see the difference between sex, culture, and tradition through Bram Stoker s, Dracula. In the time period Dracula was written victorian women either had two choices, be a wife and mother or be a virgin and pure if she was neither of these she was considered a whore and had no consequence to society. I have focused primarily on water conservation and acknowledged my greenhouse gas contributions. I have a new appreciation for the hydrologic cycle. I had not previously thought about the world s water supply in terms of 1.39B cubic kilometers or that only one percent of this is available as fresh water for humanity to work with (not accounting for the polar icecaps, glaciers or ocean desalination efforts). This sounds less, more finite then saying water covers seventy five percent of the Earth. It was disturbing to learn that the United States used on average 355 billion gallons of water each day in 2010 and that almost half of this water was used for thermoelectric power production. I was surprised to learn that the many American households use upwards of one hundred thousand gallons of water a year (Graham, Parkinson Chahine, 2010; Barber, 2014). Initially, I approached the writing assignment thinking about my impact on the water cycle in terms of consumption. While exploring the topic, it quickly became apparent that my indirect water consumption was equally significant. I was familiar with the concept of a carbon footprint for many years, and was fascinated to learn about the notion of a water footprint and viewing agricultural products in terms of their net virtual water value (Hoekstra, 2008). Plastic surgery isn t just what s seen on TV and on social media; plastic surgery is much more than facelifts, rhinoplasty, and breast enhancements. In fact, plastic surgery is anything that undergoes the process of reconstructing or repairing parts of the body.
