The Is Not Defined By Dictionaries Or Professors, Or...
Definition Essay Draft
Words are not defined by dictionaries or professors, or officials, but by how people use them, how
they are put in to context, through the timeless evolution of meanings. Words can have many different
faces, many of which can be powerful or quite weak, others can have a friendly face or a mean one.
Sometimes there are words that can start out having a friendly face, but with time society can turn
them into a mean face that betrays its former self, words like this exist all across modern social
interaction, some can be more prominent than others and promote an ignorant atmosphere as to which
we are forced to live in. The word gay is no exception, many people apply this word incorrectly to
every situation and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gay wasn t used to replace homosexual as a noun until the twentieth century (Oxford English
Dictionary). That was when politics and news corporations used the word to label the homosexual
community as gay. In recent events, for example, there have been instances such as the Gay Rights
Movement which has been mentioned in media, in turn creates it as a label for homosexuals. So
nowadays homosexuals are officially known as gays. Although gay became a technical term in the
professional field, at a local level, the word turned away from being a noun and became an adjective,
just like in the beginnings of the word; but it had taken on a very different meaning from what it was
originally. Gay: adj., stupid, dumb, out of favor. That seems to be how our generation defined this
word, it is sad to see that society has come to this, to relate a group of people to the words dumb or
stupid. People use this word in many cases that don t even have any relation to the actual meaning of
the word, mostly as a derogatory term or insult. For example, if a student chooses to complain about a
homework assignment or how a teacher runs their classroom, they usually will say Man, this is so gay,
I hate this . To the student, their statement is exactly the same as, Man, this is so stupid . It is pitiful
how this generation has done this to such a word that has so much other meaning behind it. It is the
same story for similar words, like faggot or queer. These terms have

Analysis Of Garden Valley Hunger Center
You don t forget the face of the person who was your last hope. Collins In the span of a few months, I
have had the privilege of helping with programs that work toward ending hunger in Northeastern
Ohio. I worked at three places, and they all have a great impact on the community they serve. Working
with the people there, I gained a better understanding of how people become food insecure and how
important these programs are. The kindness I was shown is astonishing, and being shown this
affection made me build strong emotional connections to those I was helping. Volunteering at these
centers gave me a lot of hope that diminishing hunger insecurity is possible. The first place I

Pats is a church that serves hot meals to the community multiple times a week. When a group of peers
and I got there, we spent some time with the kids that showed up while the kitchen was getting ready
for the meal. We brought them coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, puzzles, and checkers. I sat
across from a little boy who kept almost falling asleep. His grandma explained to me that he does not
usually act this way. He is usually a ball of energy who bounces off the walls, but that day he did not
have the energy because he was hungry. No matter how hard I tried to distract him with coloring or
even a conversation, he could not stop thinking about how hungry he was. It made me really sad to
think that someone s hunger could be so bad that they cannot do anything. Food is a necessity, and
being deprived of it can make you feel less human. I hate that in this rich, industrialized nation, there
are severe problems. We need to focus on ending hunger in America, and places like St. Pats will help
do that. We need to support these programs and expand them to reach all of the hunger insecure. By
building upon these programs, we Ohioans

Social Criticism in the Hollywood Melodramas of the Fifties
In the early 1950s the films of Douglas Sirk led the way in defining the emerging genre of the
Hollywood melodrama. Melodrama strictly means the combination of music (melos) and drama, but
the term is used to refer to the popular romances that depicted a virtuous individual (usually a woman)
or couple (usually lovers) victimized by repressive and inequitable social circumstances (Schatz 222).
Sirk s films were commercially successful and boosted the careers of stars like Lauren Bacall, Jane
Wyman, and Rock Hudson, who was in seven of Sirk s thirteen American films (Halliday 162 171).
Although critics in the fifties called the films trivial and campy and dismissed them ... Show more

The visual aspects of Imitation of Life are more discreet; the color is slightly more realistic, in part
because the newer Eastman color technology was used instead of Technicolor (Bordwell 357). The
outdoor scenes are lavish but authentic, due to the larger budget of the film and the desire not to draw
as much attention away from the more complex and socially important plot.
Visual realism, however, was never a goal of melodrama. In fact, melodramas had a variety of visual
techniques designed to remind the audience that they weren t real. Extreme high and low camera
angles, the placement of large objects in the foreground, visual blocks (like columns) separating
characters, and non natural lighting were jarring to the audience and were a manifestation of the inner
tensions of the characters (FilmFrog 5). The idea behind these tactics was that As soon as the audience
is reminded that they are watching a contrived reality, that only within this artificial world are social
problems worked out so neatly, the prosocial fiction is cast in doubt (Schatz 249). But this most likely
was not the true effect on most audiences, who although they may have understood the social issues
presented, probably did not pick up on the symbolism and technique especially since melodramas
weren t even analyzed academically until the 1970s (Klinger 2).

Personality Development By Mary D. Salter Ainsworth And...
Main Idea Attachment, as defined by Infants, Children, and Adolescents is the strong emotional
connection that develops between an infant and caregiver, which provides the infant with a sense of
joy, comfort, and emotional security (Berk, 2012, p. 264). Between 6 to 12 months of age, infants
typically have developed said strong emotional connection to familiar people who have responded to
their need for comfort, care, and other needs. While many individuals might suggest that a baby s
emotional connection to the mother serves as the basis upon which all future relationships are built,
how this strong emotional connection develops has been a source of debate for decades. Theories that
attempt to explain the emotional bond between an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethology, an approach that has become widely accepted in recent years, is focused upon the adaptive,
or survival, value of behavior and its evolutionary history (Berk, 2012, p. 264). According to Infants,
Children, and Adolescents, the ethological theory provides that babies are biologically prepared to
contribute actively to establish a bond with their caregivers, which promotes the chances for their
individual genes to survive. Since ethologists believe that behavior can be best understood in terms of
one s adaptive value, a full understanding of the entire organism environment system, including
physical, social, and cultural aspects is sought (Berk, 2012, p. 264). John Bowlby, who first applied
this approach to the infant caregiver bond, maintained that the quality of future relationships is
directly related to the quality of an infant s attachment to the caregiver (Berk, 2012, p. 265).
Evaluation of Evidence Inspired by Konrad Lorenz s (1952) study of imprinting in baby geese,
Bowlby believed that an infant, just like the young of most animal species, is born with built in
behaviors that ensure that a parent stays close by, which improves the odds that the infant will remain
safe from danger. Through these built in behaviors, a strong emotional connection develops.
According to Lorenz, this strong emotional connection serves as a reference for future relationships.
Granted, Bowlby s ethological theory of attachment appears to be

The Extinction Of The Dinosaurs Extinction
Imagine you were a dinosaur, living 65 million years ago. One day, you are going around doing what
you do on a normal basis, when suddenly you see a giant object coming towards the ground a few
hundred miles away from you. Then suddenly, it goes black as gases block out all light except for one
light coming rapidly towards you. Other dinosaurs are running away from the light as you start
following them. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly it
catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. I believe that the mass extinction of the
dinosaurs sixty five million years ago was caused by an asteroid ten kilometers wide striking just off
of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula, that caused smoke to block out the sun and for fireballs to shoot
across the sky. About 65 million years ago, an asteroid is said to have crashed off the coast of the
Yucatan peninsula. This crash is what some scientists believe to be the reason the dinosaurs went
extinct. The first to believe that impact was the cause of the extinction were the father son duo of Luis
and Walter Alvarez. They think that because of the crash the sun was blocked out by dense clouds of
dust. The crash also most likely didn t kill just the dinosaurs but, according to PBS, ...caused the
extinction of just the dinosaurs, but of up to 70 percent of all plants and animals living at the time. The
asteroid was also most likely not traveling very slowly. It is believed it was

Following the famous and multitudinously citied definition of sustainable development of the
Brundtland Report (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987) as development that
meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their
own needs , sustainable tourism can be defined as tourism that ―meets the needs of present tourists
and host regions while protecting and enhancing opportunities for the future. In this case therefore, the
success of Lucerne in becoming a world renowned tourist spot is rooted in the fact that it has

In fact, as Sandbrook concluded (2010), Within a smaller region, the production possibilities are
limited. In this sense, relatively high leakage rates are not a major problem, since they are
(economically) justifiable and mostly the result of geographic scale. Therefore, even if there were
higher leakage rates in terms of importing products such as German beer, Lucerne can offset these by
ensuring that the concentration of tourist revenue is collected from the service industry and the
cultural experiences provided to tourists.
Frommer (2012) expands on this argument by stating Lucerne has managed to create a successful
economic environment that has built the foundation for its success in tourism by developing an
extension of the regional value added chain which is used to describe the intensification of the
integration of a specific sector, e.g. tourism, into the other sectors of the economy. This means that
local suppliers of intermediate products or services are favoured over non local suppliers. For
example, a restaurant should use predominantly locally cultivated food from producers who use
locally produced intermediate goods (e.g. fertilizer) and employ locals. Or a main contractor should
prefer local building firms that use e.g. local timber to non local firm or firms that use timber from
other regions or countries. If the required intermediate goods or services are not yet

The Tower of London Essay
The Tower of London: A Landmark Alive With History The Tower of London is one of the most
famous and visited historic monuments in the world. For some people it conjures up images of
Norman architecture and towering battlements, but most associate it with arms and armour, ravens, the
Crown Jewels, Yeoman Warders, imprisonment, death and ghostly apparitions. But this does not do it
justice: the history of the Tower and its buildings is a vast, fascinating and complex subject,
intertwined with the history of the country of England, its government, its kings and queens, and its
people and institutions. The castle s first four centuries, during the Middle Ages, saw the development

The White Tower was protected to the east and south by the old Roman city walls, while the north and
west sides were protected by ditches and an earthwork with a wooden wall on top. The tower was
reinforced on the two western corners by square turrets, by a round tower housing the main staircase
on the north eastern corner, and by a half round projection housing the chapel on the south eastern
corner. Inside, each of the building s four levels was divided into three parts. The lowest level
contained access to the well while the main entrance was situated on the floor above and reached by a
timber staircase. In the 12th century a fore building was added to the south front of the White Tower to
protect the entrance. From very early on the enclosure contained a number of timber buildings for
residential and service use. It is important for us today to remember that the functions of the Tower
from the 1070s until the late 19th century were established by its Norman founders. The Tower was
never primarily intended to protect London from external invasion, although, of course, it could have
done so if necessary. Nor was it ever intended to be the principal residence of the kings and queens of
England, though many did in fact spend periods of time there. Its primary function was always to
provide a base for royal power in the City of London and

The Use Of Symbolism In Traveling Through The Dark
Symbolism is used in everything from movies to stories, EVERYTHING. Symbolism is the use of
symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Symbols can be used to describe or mean something else. For
example, empty pockets can be used as a symbol to describe not having any money. It can be used in
many different ways and forms. Symbols are used everyday and time are really hard to notice what
they truly mean. The following poems all use different symbols, but all stand for deception the poems
are Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford, We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar,
Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.
To begin with, the poem Traveling Through the Dark the car is symbolized as death. In real life time a
car is used as a form of transportation, but can also bring death to those involved in an accident. The
narrator states, Traveling though the dark I found a deer dead on the edge of the Wilson river road
(lines1 2). He says that he has found a dead deer on by the river that another car might have hit before.
This car that the narrator is in come be a sign of death coming again to a unborn baby. He says, . . .
then pushed her over the edge into the river (line18). After finding the dead deer he decides to move
the deer to prevent another accident, later to find out that an unborn is still alive. He makes his way
towards a cliff pushing off the dead and now dead baby fawn to dispose of the bodies. Nordstrom
comments, the car is certainly described as a death bringer (Nordstrom). Nordstrom understands that
death is disguised by a car and as the car approaches the deer, its death making its way again. Next the
poem named We Wear the Mask deals with what slaves would relate to during the slavery having to
cover up their true feelings. A mask is used as a symbol as it is used to hide the true feelings of those
who are in grief and sorrow. In the poem it states, We wear the mask that grins and lies . . . (line 1).
Right off the bat the writer agrees to wearing a mask that does not show true emotions. The writer is
most likely not willing to show his or her true feelings, because during the time slaves were not
supposed to be happy and were not

Aspects Of Romanticism As Described By Wolfson And Manning
Aspects of Romanticism as Described by Wolfson and Manning
The period in time between 1785 and 1835 in Europe has come to be known in literature as the
Romantic Period. The Romantic Period was shaped by the eruption of a new social order and the
rights of man rather than the control from the wealthy and privileged. There were arguments for and
against the rights of women, debates over the abolition of Britain s slave trade and of slavery in it
colonies, movements for social and political remedies for the poor; and a newly emergent class
consciousness among discontented workers in Britain s fields, mines, factories, and mills (Wolfson 8).
During this time, many poems, sonnets and novels emerged as a way for writers to express their
feelings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aspects of Romanticism that these poems reflect are imagination, nature, and the movement
towards liberty and equality. Wolfson and Manning described the significance of imagination in The
Romantics and their Contemporaries , In this vibrant culture of new imaginative possibilities,
Imagination itself became a subject of reflection, and often debate (Wolfson 8). The poem Kubla Khan
, shows the importance of imagination in romantic literature. The enchanted dreams and inspired
visions that Wolfson and Manning describe are shown many times throughout Kubla Khan, when the
author is describing his dream And mid these dancing rocks at once and ever, It flung up momentarily
the sacred river (Coleridge 670). Nature was also a significant and reoccurring theme during the
Romantic Period. Writers tended to focus on the educational aspects that nature could provide to the
reader. Wordsworth describes his opinion on the importance of nature and its educational value it
holds in his poem The Tables Turned . Books! tis a dull and endless strife, Come, hear the woodland
linnet, How sweet his music; on my life, There s more of wisdom in it (Wordsworth 427). Wordsworth

Influence of Magazines on College Age Females Body Image
Millions of women every day are bombarded with the media s idea of the perfect body. These
unrealistic images are portrayed in women s magazines all over the country. The message being sent

They found it was important to use the body and breast variables separately. Cusumano and Thompson
also found a distinct lack of a relationship between exposure to body size ideals and measures of body
satisfaction, eating disturbance, self esteem and one s own actual degree of obesity. Internalization of
social norms of appearance accounted for significant and substantial variance, whereas exposure was
not.
Thomsen s (2002) study Health and Beauty Magazine Reading and Body Shape concerns among a
group of college women, proposed testing a structural equation model which incorporates several
mediating processes through which beauty/fashion, health/fitness magazines might influence the
college age female s fear of being fat. He explores the potential direct and indirect effects of two
additional mediating influences: hope and the internalized belief that men expect women to be thin.
Three key findings emerge from this study. The first is women s belief about men s preferences or
expectations for female thinness were the strongest predictor of body shape and size concerns.
Although two types of magazines were studied, only health and fitness magazine readings were
directly linked to body shape and size concerns. Finally, hope was not influenced by the reading,
expected future weight gain and loss, and body shape and size concerns; this finding was not
anticipated.

The Importance Of Freedom Of Speech
Is it possible to imagine a civil democratic society without freedom of speech? The right of speech is
one of the most valuable integrity a human being can have in this world. Precisely, this is an
opportunity given by the right to talk open minded and give opinions about particular situations.
However, what are the impacts on a total society of assuring the right of free speech?
As far as I am concerned, free speech provides a check on corrupt, inefficient leadership and
administrative personnel. Moreover, it is indirectly responsible for the higher standards of living to the
extent that free speech promotes scientific discovery and dissemination, more effective means toward
given societal goals, and more efficient governmental personnel. Some critics of free speech may
argue that it leads to political instability and revolution as well. Freedom of speech exists mostly in
democratic countries. In these particular countries politicians come into force through disputes and
discussions. However, freedom is an important section of democratic society and in this case, it is
considered as an affirmative right. If we take into account not only political life, we have to agree with
the point that freedom of speech and thoughts is crucial for growth. Again, new ideas are born through
arguments and discussions and this is the key to prosperity. Diversity of viewpoints and opinions
create conditions that are ideal for evolution, progress and development.
Indeed, there are other rights of freedom a human being can possess. Such as, freedom of press,
worship, and religion etc. The fundamental right of the freedom of press implicit in the right the
freedom of speech and expressions, is crucial for the political prosperity and proper functioning of
democracy. Freedom of press is the center of social and political bonds. It is the principal duty of the
courts to support the freedom of press and invalidate all laws or administrative actions, which
intervene with it contrary to the constitutional mandate. Though, government do not hold monopoly
for social media. A citizen has radical right to use the best means of transferring and obtaining
information and have access telecasting for the purpose. Commercial advertisements

Persuasive Essay On A Car
A car is a purchase any parent will have to face at some point down the road but, finding the most
affordable and durable option can be tricky. Most will put the research aside and let the internet, or car
salesperson, tell them which car is best but that does not mean it is best suited for them. After careful
research, comparisons, and consideration towards three different cars, a Jeep Cherokee, Nissan Rogue,
and Honda CR V, teens will be able to make the most responsible purchase and parents will be left at
ease with their child s decision. A teen will want to work with his or her parents to find a car with the
best fuel economy, lowest scheduled payments, and best safety ratings. Fuel economy may not seem
like it would be a person s deciding factor when choosing a car, however, everybody will want to be
aware of it. Fuel economy is very important to someone who does not want to make several stops at
the gas station during the day, or worse, pay for said gas more than they should. The gas a car needs to
run fluctuates in price but typically stay pretty high and those costs will add up. Each car model
consumes a different amount of gas to go the same distance, this is shown through a city/highway
miles per gallon comparison to check how much gas will be used. For a Jeep Cherokee, the
comparison is twenty one/thirty or four gallons for every one hundred miles; a Nissan Rogue is twenty
six/thirty three or three point three gallons for every one hundred miles; and a Honda

The Basic Three Functions Of Communication
OB Final Exam
1. Communications fulfils three main functions within an organization, name them and explain their
impact from an effective and ineffective perspective.
The basic three functions of communication in organization are to inform, persuade, and motivate.
Inform
The idea of informing within an organization is to provide data and information so that employees can
effectively complete their job. There are three ways through which information can travel:
Downward moving information: In this type, information moves from superiors to subordinates and
usually consists of directives or updates. For example, Executives of a company introduce a new code
of conduct to its managers and employees.
Upward moving information: Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also eliminates job uncertainty among workers when they are fully informed.
Ineffective:
It creates gap between different process and departments in organization, decreases efficiency of
employees and increase redundancy since there is no proper understanding of role and responsibilities.
It also increases job uncertainty among workers when they are not informed about the future and
vision of the company.
Persuasion
Another essential function of communication would be the element of persuasion. It is the ability to
change the attitude or behaviour of employees, vendors, clients, etc. In general, persuasion is used in
an organizational environment effectively when the source of the information is trustworthy.
Effective:
Effective communication leads to Effective persuasion in an organization. It creates anenvironment
where employees trust upper level executives decisions. For example, if a company decides to merge
with another company, employees will have confidence that merger will not affect them negatively.
Confidence on thetop management creates loyal employees, who work more effectively towards
achieving company s goals
Ineffective:
Past experience of ineffective communication leads to lack of trust. For example, supposedly
theemployees had a past experience of company hiding its bad financial condition leading to layoffs
Employees will now be more insecure of their jobs leading to

They usually come at the lowest prices because they produce a lot of noise, being a least prefered
choice by people who have rooms above the garage. Screw drive garage door openers open and close
the garage door on a threaded rod, they are low maintenance and have fewer parts than the other types
of drive systems. The most common safety feature that garage door openers have is the safety
mechanism that stops and reverses the garage door once an obstacle passes beneath it. This useful
safety feature can prevent damage to your car, and most importantly, it can prevent your household
members and pets from getting hurt. When it comes to security features, the most common and
popular security feature is the rolling code feature, because it makes it almost impossible for a burglar
to access the code to opening your garage door. Buying a garage door opener seems like an easy task,

Machines In John Steinbeck s Grapes Of Wrath
Men create machines. Machines destroy men. Will this be the vicious cycle that ends mankind? With
machines taking over, it is difficult to see any other possible outcome. Machines are more efficient,
more intelligent, and overall better workers than the humans who created them. They have already
dominated over the farming industry, destroying homes and families, as seen in John Steinbeck s
Grapes of Wrath . In this novel, the Joad family is forced from their home by efficient tractors that
have taken over all the farms in their area. They must travel across America from Oklahoma to
California, leaving their home and everything they have ever loved behind. On their journey, they face
death of loved ones, starving children, and the struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A more eye catching figure, often quoted by Ministers, is for terrorism related arrests . 289 of these
were recorded in 2014 (as against 223 in 2013, 258 in 2012, 170 in 2011 and an average of 216 since
September 2001).122 As I have previously noted, caution is required in relation to these figures. But
in 2014, 86% of those charged following terrorism related arrests were charged with offences
considered to be linked to terrorism, a substantial increase over the equivalent figure of 56% in 2013.
They were focused on the last quarter of the year, which saw 46% of the arrests under TA 2000 section
41 and 37% of all the terrorism related arrests. There was a large increase in the number of 18 20 year
olds being arrested, which more than tripled from 15 in 2013 to 46 in 2014. Continuing a recent trend,
the great majority (78%) of terrorism related arrests were under PACE rather than TA 2000 section 41.
This contrasts with the period 2003 2007, in which over 90% of such arrests were under TA 2000.
Two possible explanations are increased use of holding charges (identity offences, benefits fraud,
internet related offences) while terrorist offences are investigated, and the advent of certain precursor
offences under TA 2006 in respect of which the TA 2000 section 41 arrest power (which is limited to
the categories of person specified in section 40) may not be

Intervertebral Disk Disorder
Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD) is one of the most common spinal cord disorders in small animals.
It is the degenerative process of the intervertebral disk which causes bulging or herniation into the
spinal cord, the disk acts as a cushion and shock absorber for the vertebrae. Treatment for animals that
had severe IVDD with paralysis and no deep pain perception used to be surgery but recent studies
show that surgery might not be the best way to go. Electroacupuncture sends small electrical signals to
the central nervous system and has few adverse effects. If there is another way to help canines who

Biological And Psychological Theories
Biological and Psychological Theories
The most important issues that are faced by biological and psychological theorists when it comes to
explaining criminal behaviors are. Psychological (1) Society determines behavioral norms (2) crimes
are a result of abnormal or inappropriate irregularities within the mental progressions of a person. (3)
psychological theories focus on the individual, (4) behavior is motivated by personality (5) there are
many reasons why a person could have flawed mental processes which can result in them committing
crimes (Raine, 2013, pgs. 12 14). The fact is there are many reasons criminal behavior, but many
people who are criminals show signs of having an antisocial personality disorder, such as psychology
and being sociopathic. These behaviors manifest early in a person s life and include, having no
empathy, being manipulative, using people, and being self centered. For these individual s traditional
punishments, are unlikely to have any effect on them. This is because their psychology has made it

Biological theorists want there to be stricter laws when it comes crimes. These include: Chemical
castration where sexual predators have been ordered by the courts to take medication to control their

are seen to be too similar to lobotomies are unlikely to be performed (Breggin, 2008, pgs. 45 47). The
best way at this time to lessen the probability of a person recommitting a crime is to provide them with
the education and skills needed to better their lives and for law enforcement to be more vigilant when
it comes to sexual and violent offenders who are on parole or

International Hospitality Industry Has Been Affected By...
Introduction In the past few years, international hospitality industry has been affected by globalisation,
revolution of information technology, fragmentation of customer demand, and the emergence of
economic integration of supplier in the networks. Globalisation means a process to reduce the barriers
between one country to another (Brotherthon, 2003). Hence, it is a critical issue in the industry where
the essence of the product is international and the encounter with the customer is intercultural. The
hospitality industry has often been called as people business (Downling et al., 2008). Therefore,
Human Resource Management (HRM) plays a crucial role in the industry as it understands the human
aspects on the organisation. HRM deals with people in the organisation how to manage their
behaviour and activities in order to increase the organisation s profit. It has the function in the
organisation to focus on recruiting the management and providing directions for the people in the
organisations. Moreover, it deals with issues related to people, such as performance management,
hiring, wellness, benefit, safety, compensation, training, and communication (Hayes Ninemeler, 2009).
HRM is one of the phenomenon which has property to change under globalisation effect. It is both and
academic theory and business practice. From the HRM perspective, an international hospitality
industry is a caricature, where in reality derived from the local management structures,

Economic Impact Of The Earthquake
Earthquakes and Society
On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 earthquake struck the Republic of Haiti. This earthquake caused a large
amount of destruction and devastation. In order to understand this earthquake more in depth, it will be
discussed on how it affected the earth, the damages and death tolls, the economic impact, and the
permanent consequences.
Affecting the Earth
The earthquake happened about 15 miles southwest from the Haitian capital of Port au Prince at
4:35pm. The geology of Haiti consists of igneous rocks formed within a volcanic island arc. Haiti is
situated on the North American Plate and the Caribbean Plate is below. The Enriquillo Plaintain
Garden Fault which accounts for over half of the movement between the Caribbean and North
American plates which equals to about 7 millimeters per year. (Cressey, 2010). The earthquake
occurred on the Enriquillo Plaintain Garden fault system. The plates move in an east west direction
and which had caused the energy release. ( What Caused the Devastating Haiti Earthquake?, 2010)
Since the American North American and the Caribbean plates slide past each other, the movement
creates a strike strip fault. Because of famous strike strip faults like San Andreas, it seems reasonable
that the earthquake did take place. In fact, for some scientists there was concern about this earthquake
happening. A professor emeritus in geoscience at Oregon State University stated only 6 days before
the earthquake, If they have an earthquake on this

Comparing The Stereotypes Of The Gibson Girl
United States is the creator of many of the beauty stereotypes that are active until now such as Barbie

by an American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson. The Gibson girl was the idea of perfect women in the
early XX century until the First World War.
The illustration had appeared in popular magazines, it not only had showed physical ideas, and it also
had represented the behavior and the social status of the perfect American women in that time. Gibson
girls had portrayed the new woman a women who was educated, taking advantage from the access that
women obtained to have secondary and college education; a woman who had more independence.
The Gibson girl was illustrated like a Caucasian woman, tall and slim with a body in S shape helped
by the corset. The facial features were big eyes and a tiny mouth and nose. The hair also was very
iconic, Gibson girls wore their hair swept up into a twisted bun called chignon showing the neck. This

The Historical Landmarks Of Jerusalem
While the present day Jerusalem flourishes with the pilgrims attracted by the city s religious
significance and the tourists intrigued by its historical landmarks, it was merely a minor city state in
the ancient times. However, rather than a miracle that had occurred overnight, the social and economic
status of Jerusalem was obtained through a process of evolution, the early parts of which were
recorded in the Hebrew Bible, which is a collection of narratives based on genuine historical events
while centering its stories on divine power. In the case of Jerusalem, the Bible provides intricate
accounts of religiously significant events that were in sync with the stages of Jerusalem s
development, starting with King David s choice to designate the city as the capital of the United
Monarchy, and culminating around the time of Solomon s construction of the First Temple, as well as
the fall of the city to the Babylonians. Through these references to the Bible, which centralize early
events of the Israelite religious history in the city of Jerusalem, it is unequivocal that not only has
Jerusalem affected the religious society of the Israelites, but the evolution of the city into a political
and spiritual capital is also related to the religious events that took place in the city. To examine the
connection between religion and space, Thomas Tweed introduces a model in his short essay Space ,
which defines the characteristics of religious spaces like Jerusalem interrelated,

the Pharmaceutical Industry s Marketing Practices, author Kanika Johar (2013) writes, In my
experience, the goal of DTCA is to increase market share for the new drug by bringing awareness to a
particular disease that the drug treats (p.10). The first part of that sentence is remarkably candid. As an
industry insider, Johar admits that increasing market share is the goal of DTCA. While proponents cite
education and awareness as reasons to continue DTCA, research consistently shows that consumers
are not educated in any meaningful way about drugs and their side effects in a 2 minute commercial or
a tiny 4 point font, need a degree in biotechnology to understand, print advertisement (Frosch et al,
2010; Arnold Oakley, 2013).
One of the biggest problems with direct to consumer advertising is the dangerous medicalizing of our
citizens. Medicalization: To take a normal human condition and turn it into a medical condition that
needs to be treated. At issue with opponents of DTCA is the belief that the advertisements gloss over
the (sometimes serious) side effects. These ads portray the message of happy and carefree people
whose lives are better because of these drugs. The ubiquitous ads promote these drugs to the exclusion
of any natural remedies or simple lifestyle changes

Imf And World Bank Group
IMF and World Bank Group
The IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank were both founded in 1944, during a UN
conference held in Bretton Woods in the United States.
Delegates specializing in the field of economic policy attended from 44 countries, with the shared goal
of establishing a framework of economic cooperation, in the hope of avoiding future financial
instability on a scale witnessed during the Great Depression of the 1930 s.
The IMF is currently accountable to and governed by 189 countries, all of which play a part in
delivering its primary goals of promoting international financial stability and monetary cooperation,
through its activities of Surveillance, Financial, and Technical Assistance. (Imforg, 2016)

The Dam is one of many to be constructed to provide an irrigation system known as the Sardar Sarova
Project, that will eventually span across three Indian states (75,000km). (Lirnnet, 2016)
The controversy around the World Bank s involvement in the project started when it approved its loan
for the Narmada Dam two years ahead of the Ministry of Environments provided their endorsements
to proceed, which directly contravenes World Bank policies. (Umichedu, 2016)
A formal request was raised by the Save the Narmada movement (NBA) in 1988 for work on the
Narmada Projects to stop, while concerns around government resettlement and rehabilitation programs
were still continuing to being addressed. (Umichedu, 2016) The World Bank assembled an
independent review committee in 1989, to address the growing pressures and concerns of 50,000+
NBA members. (Umichedu, 2016)
_
The findings of the independent review committee (Morse Report) published in 1992, were found to
endorse the main concerns of the NBA. The World Bank unhappy with their conclusions responded by
sending out the Pamela Cox Committee, whose findings completely contradicted those presented in
the Morse Report.
The World Bank eventually withdrawal their funding for the project, in response to the mounting
international pressure they received regarding the Pamela Cox

The Victorians Concern With Morality
The Victorians Concern with Morality It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age
of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity...
(Charles Dickens). This quote helps to sum up the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era is understood to
have existed during the rule of Queen Victoria between 1837 to 1901. It was thought to be an exciting
period that saw various literary schools and artistic styles along with social and political movements.
The period was also described to have led to swift developments and changes from advances in
scientific, technological, and medical knowledge. It was reckoned as an era of prosperity and political
reform. However, in the modern world, the era has been perceived to have been filled with numerous
contradictions. Writers such as Alfred Tennyson, Robert Browning, and Oscar Wilde all help to
advance this conclusion. It was also evident due to the existence of social movements that were
concerned with promoting public morals after a class system that enforced harsh living conditions
were in place. Restraint and dignity coexisted with child labor and prostitution with this
transformation in the Victoria Era. The Victorian Age began with great optimism and confidence
which resulted in an economic boom besides growing prosperity, hence, the prosperity led to doubt
and uncertainty concerning Britain s position in the globe (Atlick Richard). This essay will focus on
proving the

Glee Character Analysis
Finally, TV characters have seen a rise in portrayals of those with mental disability. For the purpose of
this paper, it can include obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), Down Syndrome, schizophrenia,
Asperger s, or a learning disability. Criminal Minds follows the BAU task force as it follows criminals
over the years. Dr. Spencer Reid, a main character, and his mother suffer from mental disabilities. Dr.
Reid, is a genius, and his mother has schizophrenia. As a title character, schizophrenia is often brought
up and showcased as well as Spencer s intelligence. His knowledge is not abused or judged, but
appreciated.
In Glee, two characters have mental disabilities, Emma Pilsburry, a guidance counselor who suffers
from OCD, and Becky Jackson, a cheerleader with Down Syndrome. Since the show is ensemble
based, meaning there is not one main character but the plot follows many characters, we, as an
audience get to see Down Syndrome and OCD depicted and how interactions with fellow classmates
and coworkers affect the characters and their peers.
Monk is a crime/detective show that is centered on a consultant at the city police station. He suffers
from severe OCD, which limits his day to day activity, but also allows him so see specific things that
helps in crime scene investigations. It is very refreshing to see how helpful to the community someone
can be with a disability, where oftentimes the police would not have been able to solve cases without

Q1: Once the decision was made to introduce the complete male product and to advertise it according
to the plan, what was the impact on profit in 1966(before taxes) of selling 30 tons at a retail price of
Cr. 8.20?
The impact on profit in 1966(before taxes) is the Contribution Margin of selling 30 tons.
Contribution margin = revenue variable costs.
The incremental cost in this case is all the cost elements in E1 or E2 except the labor cost and the
transportation and storage cost. That is because the labor is not not a volume dependent element. Also,
the transportation and storage is not part of the incremental cost because the company was operating

On the other hand, the marketing department allocation cost of 0.54 is not reasonable too because they
want to use the same amount as for the old product. The allocated fixed expenses for the new product
should be not more than a dollar and not less than 0.70 cent per 1 kg of the complete meal.
Q7: What is your recommendation to management regarding the new complete meal product for
1967?
If the company decided to sell the new product at price of D.Cr. 8.20, that means the full fixed
expense of 1.20 is covered and the company will make high profit. However, the selling price of D.Cr.
8.20 is very high and under this price the company will sell the new product at a lower volume than
what the company planned sale volume in the budget and that will affect the company in the market as
a strong competitor in the food manufacturing. According to the case, the company sales volume drop
to 30 tons when the product was sold at the price of D.Cr. 8.2. Thus, my recommendation are as
follows:
1 Th firm should introduce the new complete meal at price of D.Cr. 6.85 because the price will raise
the demand and generate high profit for the company.
2 The firm should advertise for the new complete meal

Jane Austen s A Light Hearted And Simplistic View Of...
Jane Austen presents a light hearted and simplistic view of society through the ordinary lives in
Emma. Every character is linked and connected to the location of Highbury in some way. The limited
social and geographical range does pose weaknesses in this active yet reserved village. Austen s
recognition of flaws behind gossip, marriage and social status, provide readers delight and a sense of
identification. Emma successfully stimulates awareness to the effects of isolation, and generates
appreciation for our own social privileges and position. Austen creates a dynamic community through
the way characters engage and behave against traditional and established conventions. Highbury s
isolation from the rest of England suggests boredom and loneliness will simultaneously follow.
Conversely, this lays the foundation for future drama and conflict to follow. One large source of gossip
is stirred by the letter written from mysterious Frank Churchill to Mrs Weston. Such communication
between Highbury and the outside makes this matter significant as Frank threatens the harmony and
social order of Highbury. As a result every morning visit in Highbury included some mention of the
handsome letter . The ability to listen and retell, is necessary for Emma s community in order to avoid
the dull seclusion. Mrs Elton is another cause for trivial issues, who tries to raise her social status level
to that of Emma. Her snobbery is emphasised in Emma s thoughts when described as a person

Taking a Look at Liberia
Established on the banks of western Africa is a small country known as Liberia. Liberia is an
astonishing country, with its history and culture. The first thing you might notice about Liberia is its
African heritage. Liberia was not only founded but also colonized but freed African slaves. It is also
known fact that the people are very friendly in Liberia. The culture of Liberia is amazing; some people
still carve out African figurines. This country has fought a long way for its freedom. That s why it is a
wonderful land of liberty! This nation needs to be recognized and you will agree that Liberia needs to
be visited at least once.
Liberia
Wouldn t you love to visit this country Located in West Africa, Liberia has a land mass of 11,369
square kilometers and a population of about four million. The capital is Monrovia. The official
language is English and over thirty home grown languages are also spoken in the country. You may
wonder why I selected this country; I do not know truly myself, but the more I researched about it the
more fascinated I became. I assume that will happen to you, too, to see how far this country has come.
(Forced Migration Online: Liberia, 2011)

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Disintegration of the...
Communism is defined as a political and economical doctrine, the aim which is to abolish private
ownership of property and for profit enterprise and to replace these with public ownership and control
of industry, agriculture, and resources ( Communism ). The product of this government is supposed to
be a society free of class ranking based on wealth, property, and political power. The Soviet Union
was the first country to test these governmental strategies and it did not take long for the regime to
collapse. The inevitable collapse of communism led to the fall of the Berlin Wall; this started the
domino effect of freedom that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

During the Soviet Union regime the health care system became socialized and citizens were allowed
to have full health care without charge. The Soviet Union was also the first country to have an equal
number of hospital beds to citizens (Hoeppler). Even though they had great access to heath care the
hospitals lacked the essentials needed for the hospitals to operate up to standards. In 1990, 24 percent
of hospitals did not have adequate pluming, 19 percent lacked central heat, 45 percent lacked
bathrooms or showers, 49 percent had no hot water, and 15 present operated without any water at all
(Hoeppler). These conditions were unacceptable according to Boris Yeltsin.
In June of 1991, Yeltsin won the presidential election in Russia. He became the first Russian leader to
stand in a legitimate election. Yeltsin inspired mass demonstrations against the 1991 attempt to
overthrow Gorbachev s, the president before him, government ( The Fall of the Soviet Union ). This
brought him popularity. Yeltsin decided to capitalize on his popularity by going forward with radical
reform policies. After doing things like banning the CPSU, confiscating CPSU s assets, and
distributing the state s assets to the populace. So, it did not take Yeltsin much time at all to start to
dismantle the Soviet Union ( The Fall of the Soviet Union ).
The fall of the Soviet Union became the most dramatic event of the twentieth century. With the Soviet
Union being the world s first communistic state it

Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd ) Essay
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a range of conditions grouped under the neurodevelopmental
disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5) published in 2013
(Kress Paylo, 2015). Those who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder must present two types
of symptoms: 1) Deficits in social communication and social interaction and 2) Restricted, repetitive
patterns of behavior, interests or activities (APA, 2013). The DSM 5 merged all autism disorders into
one diagnosis of ASD. Before this publication, they were organized as distinct subtypes, which
included autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder not
otherwise specified (PDD NOS) and Asperger syndrome (Kress Paylo, 2015).
The Current Understanding of Disorder and Causes
Autism may be connected to early brain development but notable signs and symptoms of the disorder
have the propensity to manifest around 1 3 years old (APA, 2013). This disorder can at times be linked
to intellectual disability, motor coordination and attention difficulties as well as physical health issues
including sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances (CITE).
Researchers have found that ASD appears to follow two likely developmental courses, the first
development being a gradual progression, parents describe growing or potential concerns in
development over the first two years of life and diagnosis is made around 3 4 years old. Potential early

  • 2. The Is Not Defined By Dictionaries Or Professors, Or... Definition Essay Draft Words are not defined by dictionaries or professors, or officials, but by how people use them, how they are put in to context, through the timeless evolution of meanings. Words can have many different faces, many of which can be powerful or quite weak, others can have a friendly face or a mean one. Sometimes there are words that can start out having a friendly face, but with time society can turn them into a mean face that betrays its former self, words like this exist all across modern social interaction, some can be more prominent than others and promote an ignorant atmosphere as to which we are forced to live in. Gay wasn t used to replace homosexual as a noun until the twentieth century (Oxford English Dictionary). That was when politics and news corporations used the word to label the homosexual community as gay. In recent events, for example, there have been instances such as the Gay Rights Movement which has been mentioned in media, in turn creates it as a label for homosexuals. So nowadays homosexuals are officially known as gays. Although gay became a technical term in the professional field, at a local level, the word turned away from being a noun and became an adjective, just like in the beginnings of the word; but it had taken on a very different meaning from what it was originally. Gay: adj., stupid, dumb, out of favor. That seems to be how our generation defined this word, it is sad to see that society has come to this, to relate a group of people to the words dumb or stupid. People use this word in many cases that don t even have any relation to the actual meaning of the word, mostly as a derogatory term or insult. For example, if a student chooses to complain about a homework assignment or how a teacher runs their classroom, they usually will say Man, this is so gay, I hate this . To the student, their statement is exactly the same as, Man, this is so stupid . It is pitiful how this generation has done this to such a word that has so much other meaning behind it. It is the same story for similar words, like faggot or queer. These terms have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Criticism in the Hollywood Melodramas of the Fifties In the early 1950s the films of Douglas Sirk led the way in defining the emerging genre of the Hollywood melodrama. Melodrama strictly means the combination of music (melos) and drama, but the term is used to refer to the popular romances that depicted a virtuous individual (usually a woman) or couple (usually lovers) victimized by repressive and inequitable social circumstances (Schatz 222). Sirk s films were commercially successful and boosted the careers of stars like Lauren Bacall, Jane Wyman, and Rock Hudson, who was in seven of Sirk s thirteen American films (Halliday 162 171). The visual aspects of Imitation of Life are more discreet; the color is slightly more realistic, in part because the newer Eastman color technology was used instead of Technicolor (Bordwell 357). The outdoor scenes are lavish but authentic, due to the larger budget of the film and the desire not to draw as much attention away from the more complex and socially important plot. Visual realism, however, was never a goal of melodrama. In fact, melodramas had a variety of visual techniques designed to remind the audience that they weren t real. Extreme high and low camera angles, the placement of large objects in the foreground, visual blocks (like columns) separating characters, and non natural lighting were jarring to the audience and were a manifestation of the inner tensions of the characters (FilmFrog 5). The idea behind these tactics was that As soon as the audience is reminded that they are watching a contrived reality, that only within this artificial world are social problems worked out so neatly, the prosocial fiction is cast in doubt (Schatz 249). But this most likely was not the true effect on most audiences, who although they may have understood the social issues presented, probably did not pick up on the symbolism and technique especially since melodramas weren t even analyzed academically until the 1970s (Klinger 2). ... Between 6 to 12 months of age, infants typically have developed said strong emotional connection to familiar people who have responded to their need for comfort, care, and other needs. Ethology, an approach that has become widely accepted in recent years, is focused upon the adaptive, or survival, value of behavior and its evolutionary history (Berk, 2012, p. 264). According to Infants, Children, and Adolescents, the ethological theory provides that babies are biologically prepared to contribute actively to establish a bond with their caregivers, which promotes the chances for their individual genes to survive. Since ethologists believe that behavior can be best understood in terms of one s adaptive value, a full understanding of the entire organism environment system, including physical, social, and cultural aspects is sought (Berk, 2012, p. 264). John Bowlby, who first applied this approach to the infant caregiver bond, maintained that the quality of future relationships is directly related to the quality of an infant s attachment to the caregiver (Berk, 2012, p. 265). Evaluation of Evidence Inspired by Konrad Lorenz s (1952) study of imprinting in baby geese, Bowlby believed that an infant, just like the young of most animal species, is born with built in behaviors that ensure that a parent stays close by, which improves the odds that the infant will remain safe from danger. Through these built in behaviors, a strong emotional connection develops. According to Lorenz, this strong emotional connection serves as a reference for future relationships. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly it catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. In fact, as Sandbrook concluded (2010), Within a smaller region, the production possibilities are limited. In this sense, relatively high leakage rates are not a major problem, since they are (economically) justifiable and mostly the result of geographic scale. Therefore, even if there were higher leakage rates in terms of importing products such as German beer, Lucerne can offset these by ensuring that the concentration of tourist revenue is collected from the service industry and the cultural experiences provided to tourists. Frommer (2012) expands on this argument by stating Lucerne has managed to create a successful economic environment that has built the foundation for its success in tourism by developing an extension of the regional value added chain which is used to describe the intensification of the integration of a specific sector, e.g. tourism, into the other sectors of the economy. • 15. The Use Of Symbolism In Traveling Through The Dark Symbolism is used in everything from movies to stories, EVERYTHING. Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Symbols can be used to describe or mean something else. For example, empty pockets can be used as a symbol to describe not having any money. It can be used in many different ways and forms. Symbols are used everyday and time are really hard to notice what they truly mean. The following poems all use different symbols, but all stand for deception the poems are Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford, We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar, Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. To begin with, the poem Traveling Through the Dark the car is symbolized as death. In real life time a car is used as a form of transportation, but can also bring death to those involved in an accident. The narrator states, Traveling though the dark I found a deer dead on the edge of the Wilson river road (lines1 2). He says that he has found a dead deer on by the river that another car might have hit before. This car that the narrator is in come be a sign of death coming again to a unborn baby. He says, . . . then pushed her over the edge into the river (line18). After finding the dead deer he decides to move the deer to prevent another accident, later to find out that an unborn is still alive. He makes his way towards a cliff pushing off the dead and now dead baby fawn to dispose of the bodies. Nordstrom comments, the car is certainly described as a death bringer (Nordstrom). Nordstrom understands that death is disguised by a car and as the car approaches the deer, its death making its way again. Next the poem named We Wear the Mask deals with what slaves would relate to during the slavery having to cover up their true feelings. A mask is used as a symbol as it is used to hide the true feelings of those who are in grief and sorrow. In the poem it states, We wear the mask that grins and lies . . . (line 1). There were arguments for and against the rights of women, debates over the abolition of Britain s slave trade and of slavery in it colonies, movements for social and political remedies for the poor; and a newly emergent class consciousness among discontented workers in Britain s fields, mines, factories, and mills (Wolfson 8). The poem Kubla Khan , shows the importance of imagination in romantic literature. The enchanted dreams and inspired visions that Wolfson and Manning describe are shown many times throughout Kubla Khan, when the author is describing his dream And mid these dancing rocks at once and ever, It flung up momentarily the sacred river (Coleridge 670). Nature was also a significant and reoccurring theme during the Romantic Period. Writers tended to focus on the educational aspects that nature could provide to the reader. • 19. The Importance Of Freedom Of Speech Is it possible to imagine a civil democratic society without freedom of speech? The right of speech is one of the most valuable integrity a human being can have in this world. Precisely, this is an opportunity given by the right to talk open minded and give opinions about particular situations. However, what are the impacts on a total society of assuring the right of free speech? As far as I am concerned, free speech provides a check on corrupt, inefficient leadership and administrative personnel. Moreover, it is indirectly responsible for the higher standards of living to the extent that free speech promotes scientific discovery and dissemination, more effective means toward given societal goals, and more efficient governmental personnel. Some critics of free speech may argue that it leads to political instability and revolution as well. Freedom of speech exists mostly in democratic countries. In these particular countries politicians come into force through disputes and discussions. However, freedom is an important section of democratic society and in this case, it is considered as an affirmative right. If we take into account not only political life, we have to agree with the point that freedom of speech and thoughts is crucial for growth. After careful research, comparisons, and consideration towards three different cars, a Jeep Cherokee, Nissan Rogue, and Honda CR V, teens will be able to make the most responsible purchase and parents will be left at ease with their child s decision. A teen will want to work with his or her parents to find a car with the best fuel economy, lowest scheduled payments, and best safety ratings. The Historical Landmarks Of Jerusalem While the present day Jerusalem flourishes with the pilgrims attracted by the city s religious significance and the tourists intrigued by its historical landmarks, it was merely a minor city state in the ancient times. However, rather than a miracle that had occurred overnight, the social and economic status of Jerusalem was obtained through a process of evolution, the early parts of which were recorded in the Hebrew Bible, which is a collection of narratives based on genuine historical events while centering its stories on divine power. In the case of Jerusalem, the Bible provides intricate accounts of religiously significant events that were in sync with the stages of Jerusalem s development, starting with King David s choice to designate the city as the capital of the United Monarchy, and culminating around the time of Solomon s construction of the First Temple, as well as the fall of the city to the Babylonians. Through these references to the Bible, which centralize early events of the Israelite religious history in the city of Jerusalem, it is unequivocal that not only has Jerusalem affected the religious society of the Israelites, but the evolution of the city into a political and spiritual capital is also related to the religious events that took place in the city. The Victorians Concern With Morality The Victorians Concern with Morality It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity... (Charles Dickens). This quote helps to sum up the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era is understood to have existed during the rule of Queen Victoria between 1837 to 1901. It was thought to be an exciting period that saw various literary schools and artistic styles along with social and political movements. The period was also described to have led to swift developments and changes from advances in scientific, technological, and medical knowledge. It was reckoned as an era of prosperity and political reform. However, in the modern world, the era has been perceived to have been filled with numerous contradictions. Writers such as Alfred Tennyson, Robert Browning, and Oscar Wilde all help to advance this conclusion. It was also evident due to the existence of social movements that were concerned with promoting public morals after a class system that enforced harsh living conditions were in place. Restraint and dignity coexisted with child labor and prostitution with this transformation in the Victoria Era. The Victorian Age began with great optimism and confidence which resulted in an economic boom besides growing prosperity, hence, the prosperity led to doubt and uncertainty concerning Britain s position in the globe (Atlick Richard). However, the selling price of D.Cr. 8.20 is very high and under this price the company will sell the new product at a lower volume than what the company planned sale volume in the budget and that will affect the company in the market as a strong competitor in the food manufacturing. Every character is linked and connected to the location of Highbury in some way. The limited social and geographical range does pose weaknesses in this active yet reserved village. Austen s recognition of flaws behind gossip, marriage and social status, provide readers delight and a sense of identification. Emma successfully stimulates awareness to the effects of isolation, and generates appreciation for our own social privileges and position. One large source of gossip is stirred by the letter written from mysterious Frank Churchill to Mrs Weston. Such communication between Highbury and the outside makes this matter significant as Frank threatens the harmony and social order of Highbury. As a result every morning visit in Highbury included some mention of the handsome letter . The ability to listen and retell, is necessary for Emma s community in order to avoid the dull seclusion.
