Teen Stereotypes
In the United States teenage pregnancy outside of marriage is labeled as a social problem. Society
views young, poor, single teenage mothers as an liability and not an asset. Teenage mothers are
stereotyped as (a) welfare dependent (b) irresponsible (c) lazy (d) ignorant and (e) promiscuous.
However, the majority of society believes that their taxes were higher because of government benefits
that teenage mothers and their babies receive. The negative stereotype regarding teenage pregnancy in
society can be very damaging and discouraging to a young mother who simply made a mistake but
still have dreams and goals in which she plans to obtain through continuing her education and
obtaining a good job to support her as well as her child. But, with the negativity it can hinder her
progress, resilience, and well being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have faced many challenges both positive and negative that has impacted my life in numerous ways.
Though my own experience of being a young teenage parent, I have developed an interest in how
other young girls have been affected by and adjusted to being a teenage mother and how they see
themselves in relation to how they are perceived by society. (Phyllis Smith) I became pregnant with
my son Quentin at the age of thirteen. My parents were separated and my mom worked long hours. I
am an only child so with no supervision it allowed me the opportunity to explore various things such
as sex and drugs. I am still a child myself but my child is my responsibility not my parents. My
experience of being a teenage mother has uniquely shaped who I am as an individual and how I have

Motivation in The Shawshank Redemption
What is motivation? As manager s, motivation is one of the most vital and crucial assets to possess in
managing a business. This drive is a critical tool to use in the work place and determine the success or
failure of an organization. Motivation is a driving force that initiates and directs behavior. In other
words, motivation is an internal energy that drives an individual to do something in order to achieve a
certain goal. Therefore, creating a motivating environment in the workplace will lead to happy
employees. Creating a work environment like this, managers can expect low staff turnovers, improved
productivity, happy customers, and better financial performance. Therefore, the input of motivation
use towards employees determines the output efficiency of the company. However, everyone involved
in an organization is motivated differently. Everybody has their own individual needs in regards to
motivation. Depending on how motivated a person is, determines the effort that individual puts into
the work and therefore, how productive they are.
The biggest problem to a manager is managing employees. This is because employers often do not
know how to handle their employees. An effective manager knows that motivation is a difficult skill to
acquire. So over the years, many theorist have studied motivation in order to

A. Nursing sensitive indicators
By understanding nursing sensitive indicators, the nurses in this case could improve the structure,
process, and outcomes of their nursing care. The structure of nursing care is indicated by the supply of
nursing staff and the skill level of the nursing staff. By the nurses having increased knowledge of the
issues hip fracture patients are prone to having, such as decrease mobility, increase need for surgical
intervention, and increase risk of falls, could help improve the quality of patient care. A patient with
decrease mobility is at higher risk for pressure sores. The nurses in this case may have prevented the

Now, the quality improvement department will need to determine what processes can be modified to
improve outcomes. For example, if they see an increase in pressure sores and prevalence of restraints.
They could use computerized charting and order entry, along with the evidence based guidelines, to
identify specific groups of patients who are vulnerable to developing pressure ulcers or closely
monitoring use of restraints. With early identification, automatic orders for preventive interventions
can be implemented quickly. With the assistance of the automated consults and orders, the appropriate
equipment, the interdisciplinary task force, continuing education, and monitoring, the hospital system
would be able to reduce unnecessary use of restraints and hospital acquired pressure ulcer prevalence
rate (Cherry amp; Jacob, 2010).
Then, they would need to implement core measures and protocols. Continuously track performance
and outcomes. Lastly, they can disseminate results to throughout the hospital to increase quality
improvement (Cherry amp; Jacob, 2010).
By educating staff on nursing sensitive indicators and the issues that need to be addressed, could
advance the quality of patient care throughout the hospital. In this case, educating hospital staff on
ways to prevent restraint use and pressure sore prevention, the staff could have possible prevented the
use of restraints and the pressure sore. Also, by educating staff on how to use restraints would be

BACKGROUND: The United States is a power nation whose interests directly relates to stabilities,

The development of economics of many countries such as China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and
Singapore critically relies on this maritime route. The most used routes for trade and communication
among Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East are sea lanes that stretch in the South China Sea and
up to 700 ships pass through these sea lanes daily.
In term of security and defense, the Asia Pacific Region has been one of the United States priorities
and the need for American engagement in this region is demonstrated in the long history. After Cold
War, the military presence of Soviet Union (Russia later) had been reduced in this region. It is said
that, in 15 20 coming years, this region hardly becomes the priorities for the strategy national security
of Russia. Although the United States cut off the number of soldiers and bases in allies countries, its
military presence in this region is significant to defend national security, assert the United States
leadership and reassurance its allies. Indonesia is an important security partner of the United States
and the world s largest Muslim majority state. Eleven of top 15 largest militaries in the world are in
this region. Of the five global challenges that the United States are facing currently (ISIS Islamic State
of Iraq and Syria; North Korea, China, Russia and Iran), four are in the Indo Asia Pacific.

Neil Postman
Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and
regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self
has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his
essay #8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, #8221; outlines seven concepts that can be used to
aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. He describes how
modern teaching methods leave a student vulnerable to the #8220;prejudices of their elders #8221;,
further stating that a good teacher must always be skeptical. He urges teachers of all subjects to break
free from traditional teachings as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postman argues that if a student were to see hidden meaning in a word, then they could use it to their
defense. It is my belief that Postman may be correct now, what about in the future. If attention were
turned to smaller words, then surely our vocabulary will diminish, and the same thing that happened to
words such as true, and false, will happen to words such as semantic, and pedagogical. Vocabulary
tests should be left as they are. If a student wishes to study words of everyday use, read a book, or
watch television. The next principle was thought provoking as well. The use of a metaphor as a tool in
education is rarely used, as Postman notes. #8220;Unless our students are aware of how metaphors
shape arguments, organize perceptions, and control feelings, their understanding is severely limited.
Postman displays how most political speeches are laced with metaphors, and how teacher #8217;s
methods are shaped by a metaphor. A student who doesn #8217;t understand a metaphor, or when it is
being applied tends to have a more closed outlook. A metaphor, used as a communication skill, is best
described in a political way. Think of Reagan #8217;s Voodoo economics, or Bill Clinton building a
bridge to the 21st century. Politicians can easily scam an ignorant voter, should one not understand a
metaphor. For example: Clinton refers to building a bridge, but does not tell us with which tools he

Ethics Of Care Theory
The ethics of care is an institutionalizing moral speculation as often as possible considered a kind of
virtue morals. There are three sorts excellence morals which is Eudaimonism, agent based theory, and
the ethics of care. The important one for this assigment is ethics of care. Ethics of Care is a hypothesis
that highlights the association of all people. It discusses how certain groups and individuals are more
powerless than others, and that the non helpless populace ought to manage the cost of additional
thought to the defenseless groups while settling on choices that may influence them. Subsequently,

Throughout the ordeal, although hostility may seem the key issue, in actual fact we can derive
positivity as Lee and Kyle developed an unlikely bond, whereby both care for each other in the sense
that Kyle did not want to gravely hurt Lee in any way and Lee s caring attitude is apparent when Kyle
is shot and at this point, Lee s emotions got the better of him as he is engulfed in grief. Either way, Lee
managed to overcome his self centered attitude towards becoming someone with a sense of humility
and care. Besides that, Patty shows tremendous care towards Lee when she sticks by his side
throughout the difficult period. She assisted him in investigating the truth hidden in the investment.
Patty had the choice to leave but she did not. She stayed and made sure Lee was fine and at the same
time trying her level best to reveal the truth. Kyle also showed care for the society around him by
risking his life to expose the truth about IBIS. He was aware that he would not walk out of the studio

A few weeks ago if I was asked What is theater? I would have responded, Theater consists of
plays/productions that are overly dramatic, boring, and not relevant to my life. However, today my
response would be extremely different. Theater to me currently, is a play that includes a combination
of themes, and motifs that enables one to feel as if they are in a different world. Most themes from the
plays over the last 6 weeks were relatable to my personal life, thus making them interesting. Due to
the exposure of plays/performances and history of theater this course has presented to me, my interest
in theater has increased tremendously. Going forward I will continue to keep theater as a part of my

Prohibition Of The United States
Alex Klintworth Prohibition in the United States Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that
it attempts to control a man s appetite by legislation and makes crimes out of things that are not
crimes. Even though Abraham Lincoln lived about a half century before Prohibition took effect in the
1920s, he described it quite well. The legislation essentially took alcohol, which had been a part of
people s lives since history of cultures were reported and made it illegal overnight. While Prohibition
did see some positive effects like a lower consumption rate, other major issues arose that could have
definitely been avoided. Legislators failed to take into account the fact that taking something away
from the public will not stop them from finding loopholes and creative ways to conceal ways to
consume alcohol. While the 18th Amendment may have seemed like a good idea on paper, its many
underlying changes eventually led to a repeal and became known as a reflection of the United States
during the 1920s. When the United States entered World War I in April of 1917, President Woodrow
Wilson implemented a temporary alcoholic ban during wartime in the hope of saving grain. This ban,
however, lasted much longer than anticipated. Groups like the Anti Saloon League and the Women s
Christian Temperance Union dramatized the evils of alcohol claiming that it can ruin lives. Because
recent legislation had been passed like women s suffrage, these groups received widespread publicity

Capital Market Imperfections in Emerging Economies
Capital market imperfection generally refers the capital available at below market rates for a certain
time period and this result in creating disequilibrium in the capital market. Market imperfections in
emerging economies such as China may be transformed into ownership advantages (Buckley, 2004)
and this may be emerged from a number of interrelated imperfections listed below: 1) State owned
enterprises (SOEs) may have capital possibly in forms of soft budget constraints which made available
to them at below the market rates (Warner et al., 2004) 2) Banking systems are inefficient which it
allows to make soft loans to potential outward investors (Warner et al., 2004; Antkiewicz and Whalley,
2006). 3) Many Chinese conglomerate firms may operate an inefficient internal capital market and
effectively subsidize FDI (Liu, 2005). 4) Family owned firms tend to have easier access to cheap
capitals through family members (Child and Pleister, 2003; Erdener and Shapiro, 2005) These
imperfections in the capital market may all exist in China. According to Tong (2002), soft budget
constraint is regarded as a common phenomenon in socialist economy. It is generally resulted from
inefficient operations. Inefficient Chinese firms survive in general and they contribute the soft budget
constraints promoted by local government and party officials (Lardy, 1998). Chinese enterprises make
acquisitions to enter and penetrate a host economy by using state sponsored soft budget constraints

Biotechnology In Margaret Atwood s Oryx And Crake

life pre and post apocalypse life. As a child, Jimmy lives with his parents who are both scientists.
Jimmy is exposed to biotechnology as a child (insert word) as his father works on a project that

On Jimmy s visit to the Watson and Crick Institute to visit Crake he sees a student s new experiment
ChickieNobs. What they were looking at was a large bulblike object that seemed to be covered with
stippled whitish yellow skin. Out of it came twenty thick fleshy tubes, and at the end of each tube
another bulb was growing. (Atwood,120) He seems to be repulsed by their appearance and even the
experiment that the student had done. Another example of genetically modified food is Happicippa
coffee. ...Happicuppa coffee bush was designed so that all of its beans would ripen simultaneously,
and coffee could be grown on huge plantations and harvested with machines. This threw the small
growers out of business and reduced both them and their labourers to starvation level poverty.
(Atwood, 179) The genetically modified coffee may seem to have a lot of positive qualities but it also
ran the people who grew coffee beans naturally out of business. This can be a realistic outcome to
present day science. Many of our foods are being modified. China is developing the largest plant
biotechnology capacity outside of North America. This would include trials of rice, what, potatoes and
peanuts. (Huang, Rozelle, Pray Wang, 2002, page 674) The scientists are working on synthesis,
isolation and cloning new genes and the transformation of plants within these genes. (Huang, Rozelle,
Pray Wang, 2002) China has already had success with their Bt cotton. The growth rate of cotton raised
from 2000 in 1997 to 700,000 in 2000. (Huang, Rozelle, Pray Wang, 2002, page 675) With Bt cotton
there has been a decrease of pesticide which has increased production efficiency. (Huang, Rozelle,

Examples Of Revenge In The Count Of Monte Cristo

Revenge Has Penalties Samuel Johnson once said, Revenge is an act of passion; vengeance of justice.
Injuries are revenged; crimes are avenged. He points out that without passion one will not have one s
revenge. Passion is an essential tool to help fuel one s continuous search for revenge to gain justice. If
someone inflicts harm upon another, they should expect retribution coming their way. This is what
occurs in the adventurous, fictional novel The Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexandre Dumas.

The Influence Of Structure And Culture On The Irish Civil...
For the purpose of this essay the author shall discuss what considerations of structure and culture
shaped the Irish civil service. The Collins English Dictionary (2013, p) defines structure as the way in
which parts are put together to make a whole. Culture on the other hand is defined as the set of
predominating attitudes and behaviours that characterise a group or organisation (The Collins English
Dictionary, 2013 p). Bearing these definitions in mind the author will look at the Irish civil service
within the wider public service and examine the Irish civil service is in relation to its culture and

According to Litton (2014) the Wright report, (2010) found serious issues with the department s

there were suggestions that issues lay with the department s abilities and with its culture. According to

The Epic Decision In John Milton s Paradise Lost
In the middle of the 17th Century, one man produced a work of literature that would shock and
confuse the Christian world. John Milton, a poet and a servant of the commonwealth of England under
Oliver Cromwell, understood more than most the power of Christianity and the effects that it had on
its sympathizers. In 1667, he decided to write an epic that would justify God s actions to man, and
how sin and death came into being, through the arduous decisions made by Adam and Eve. This epic
was called Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is a nontraditional epic in that the main decision, otherwise
known as the epic decision, was not one that agreed with the classic Christian virtues. The epic
decision of the book fell into place when Adam, knowing his eventual death, ate from the tree of
knowledge because of the love and desire that he had for Eve, knowing that he was not following God
s commands. Why does Milton incorporate such defiance into the main decision that formulates his
epic novel? Why would Milton, who is writing to a Christian society, go against common belief, and
what does the epic decision in Paradise Lost teach the Christian reader? The epic decision is the
decision in the novel, made by the protagonist, that sets the scene for the epic, and is the decision that
is made in order to instruct the people in the specific culture how to act. Compared to other epics, the
epic decision in Paradise Lost seems unordinary; but, in
actuality, the

How Did Benito Mussolini Rise To Power
Born on July 29, 1883, in Dovia di Predappio, Forlì, Italy, Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini was the
eldest of three children. His father, Alessandro, was a blacksmith and a socialist who spent most of his
time on politics and his money on his mistress. Mussolini s mother, Rosa, was a Catholic
schoolteacher who provided their family with stability and income. While he was younger, Benito
Mussolini showed intelligence, but was disobedient. His father instilled in him a passion for socialist
politics and defiance against authority. Although he was expelled from several schools for bullying
and defying school authorities, he eventually obtained a teaching certificate in 1901 and, for a short

Examples Of The Bible Reference About Dinah
1a. Bible Reference about Dinah s Character
The Bible introduces Dinah as the daughter of Jacob from Leah; Gen. 30:21 And afterwards she bare a
daughter, and called her name Dinah. The remainder of the book of Genesis gives some detail that
Dinah was bare in Padanaram, she was the seventh children from Leah and with her other brother
(Gen. 46:15). The Bible doesn t describe the appearance, the attitude, even the character of Dinah. We
can see a little bit character of Dinah in one occasion when Jacob and family stay some time in the

If Jacob did not stay in that city, perhaps the terrible thing will not happen to Dinah. Since Dinah also
still live in the flesh, she wanted the world acceptance. She dresses the same kind of the city girls at
that place, which Josephus relates that she went to attend a festival at Shechem. Even the Bible didn t
mention how Dinah dressed herself, we can imagine how she wanted same with the dressing of city

This world promises the good thing about life in this earth, the popularity, many friends, the riches.
But follow the world, is followed into the destruction of life. As Dinah wore the same dressing as the
Sheckem city girls; she got the consequence that Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of

Introduction Nutritional Anemia or Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is one of the most recurrent and
easily treatable condition affecting millions of people. 1,2 Although iron deficiency anemia does not

Highly Effective Teachers
Assignment #1: The 7 Habits of Highly Affective Teachers.
A. Please read the article attached by Rick Wormeli and answer the following questions:
1. Give an example of how you are cultivating perspectives and reframing your teachers. If you are
not an administrator, how are you doing this with your students.
As an instructional coach for our special education teachers working with students who have autism, I
spend a portion of my time supporting early career special education teachers by just being fully
present and listening to their frustrations. Their frustrations are often not based on facts but their
interpretation of events. Those negative interpretations can kill early teachers love of teaching. In
coaching, I ensure I truly understand their concerns by paraphrasing their frustrations and then
reframing those statements using a more proactive perspective from which we can begin
brainstorming potential solutions.

Oprah Winfrey once said, The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between
asleep and awake, when you don t know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that
one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened. But, what
actually is a dream and what do dreams really have to do with one s everyday life? In essence, a dream
is a series of mental images and emotions occurring during slumber. Dreams can also deal with one s
personal aspirations, goals, ambitions, and even one s emotions, such as love and hardship. However,
dreams can also give rise to uneasy and terrible emotions; these dreams are essentially known as

This quote really sets the tone and the atmosphere for the entire play because it allows readers to
create a time line of events and essentially immerse within it. This quote is stating that four days will
quickly come and go, the days will turn into nights, and the dreaming that occurs during one s slumber
will allow the time to pass even more quickly. Because of Hippolyta s unique circumstances, it is easy
for one to assume that this quote was merely said because of her unconventional and rapid marriage to
Theseus. Theseus is the Duke of Athens, and it has been previously mentioned that Hippolyta is the
Queen of the Amazons. Upon the beginning of the play, it is known that Theseus has just defeated and
returned from a battle with the Amazons. As victor, his spoils include, among other things, marrying
Hippolyta. While Theseus is expressing his undying love for his future wife, Hippolyta obviously does
not return the sentiments. It is possible that this quote is Hippolyta s way of merely cursing the effect
of dreams because they are ultimately shortening the time that she has left as an unmarried woman.
Because she is not in love with Theseus, and is just a victim of an arranged marriage, her dreams
permit each day come and go with ease, yet ultimately make the

For instance, loyalty, dynamism, leadership sociability, creativity are characteristics required in wide
variety of jobs. This type of evaluation is popular, although it remains widely criticized (McGregor,
1957). Many specialists believe that personality traits are unobservable, therefore, difficult to define
and measure. These can cause bias in the evaluation and shorten the validity because the respect we
hold for the inherent value of the individual leaves us distresses when we must take responsibility for
judging the personal worth of a fellowman . (Schmidt Hunter, 1998). Furthermore, the personality

With this type of evaluation, the peers play a central role because of the fact that they are familiar with
the work and also have daily interaction with the assesse. By contrast, in an organization where there

cooperation. Certainly, with this type of evaluation there may be opportunity to speak badly of the
work done by others. Despite this, Antonioni mentioned that these personal opinions on the

conflict and possibly solve it. Secondly, a feedback is given to the appraised. This is based on many
diversified information and, therefore, is supposed to be more credible and valid. As mentioned by
Antonioni, the multiple sources help increase loyalty and the measure of validity. In addition, the
confidentiality of the descriptions as well as the fact that specific observable behaviors are taken into
account adds more value to the validity. First, performance management through evaluation allows
employee to know what is expected of him and what will be evaluated. Individual wants to know how
the other deems to reflect on his behaviors. So along the way, the feedback he/she receives may allow
him to know what his evaluator think of his performance on the job and what he could do in order to

changes from D to A and then from A to E and E to A (shown in the musical excerpt). These chord
changes are changes from either the dominant to the tonic or the tonic to the dominant, showing the
typical barque chord changes.
Through adding trumpets, bars 1 3 and bars 5 7 are the densest of Section A. This highlights the main
repeated motif. Bars 3 5 and 7 11 are softer as these are the less important phrases of the section.
Section A1 bars 12 27
This Section is called A1, because it uses similar rhythms and pitch throughout the Section. The

The Impact Of Police Personality And Coping
Impact of Police Personality and Coping on Perceived Job Stress Currently, there is a lack of research
that connects personality and its impact on stress and coping (Lau, Hem, Berg, Ekeberg, Torgersen,
2006). Research in this area is particularly important for law enforcement because personality can
influence how police interact, react, and cope with stressors (Larsen Buss, 2002). Clearly, police face
a wide array of stressors everyday due to the nature of their job. According to Violanti and Aron
(1994), being a police officer is one of the top three most stressful occupations one can have. How
they deal with that stress can impact the individual officer, the department, and society itself. Research
has shown that many officers use maladaptive coping skills to deal with these stressors (Patterson,
2003). Although police stress has been widely researched, most studies do not look at police stress
over the different stages of their careers and through the different officer ranks. Personality, perceived
stress, and coping may change throughout a police officer s career (Jensen, 2009). Knowing at what
point in the officer s career and at what rank the most stress is experienced will also aid in creating a
preemptive plan. Literature Review What is the police personality, how does it form, and how is it
assessed? Larsen and Buss (2002) define personality as, a set of psychological traits within the
individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence

The four functions of management: planning, organizing, controlling and performing are all crucial to
managers and corporations across the world. After the planning function of management from the top
executives down to all management staff, organizing the resources of the organization is a key element
to provide the necessary action into place. Specifically, organizing physical assets, human resources,

From an information technology standpoint, advantages available are the ability to communicate with
the customers in real time for self service, the ability to pull up information from different servers and

hiring a third party or consultant that will aid in lowering costs, staying current with practices and the
justification of highly specialized field expert employees whom services are necessary to the survival
of the organization.
Knowledge Management
Knowledge management is set of practices aimed at discovering and harnessing an organization s
intellectual resources fully use the intellects of the organization s people. Knowledge management is
about finding, unlocking, sharing, and altogether capitalizing on the most precious resources of an
organization: people s expertise, skills, wisdom, and relationships (Bateman, 2009). Knowledge

However, despite best efforts, the transition will still cause some problems with relation to changeover
costs and increased training, particularly for current users of US GAAP. Therefore, despite the process
being one which is expected to be beneficial to many and establish a significant improvement in
harmonisation, there will still be some difficulties in regards to financial reporting that companies in
the US may face. The main aim of this research is to critically assess the convergence of IFRS and US
GAAP from the point of view of the US, and evaluate the alterations in financial reporting standards
that will cause problems for companies and consumers in the US
Introduction 1.1 Background
Over the last decade, the way in which financial reporting is carried out has seen some significant
advancements. One of the most momentous changes has been the introduction of International
Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), which have been adopted broadly throughout the world, with
one major exception, the United States. Before accounting standards can be considered truly global,
this exception has to be resolved. The prospect of such an occurrence took massive strides in 2002,
when the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB); responsible for standard setting in the US,
announced their intention to work alongside the IASB in order to converge IFRS with US GAAP. For
the first time, a truly global set of accounting standards seemed a

Modern Heroes In Dante s Inferno And Beowulf
Although when most hear the phrase modern hero they primarily imagine heroes from today s time;
however, that does not mean ancient heroes, such as Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim, are unable to
display the same traits as today s heroes. The most common traits among modern heroes consist of
people who are capable of some sort of supernatural ability that separates them from everyone else,
selflessness or generosity, and courageousness. These traits are portrayed by the main characters of
both Dante s Inferno and Beowulf. Although they both demonstrate heroism, Beowulf is portrayed as
more of a modern hero than Dante because he displays all three of the common characteristics of a
modern hero while Dante only displays two of them. A key component ... Show more content on

Beowulf, being a war hero, displays his courage every time he goes to fight a monster whether it be
Grendel or the dragon. Beowulf s willingness to go into battle against creatures that could potentially
kill him is not something most would do especially to the extent that he does. For example, before the
battle with the dragon Beowulf tells his men at arms to remain here on the barrow, safe in your armor.
. . this fight is not yours (Beowulf 2529 2533). Beowulf is telling his men to stay back while he fights
the dragon alone, that takes a tremendous amount of bravery to go against a fire breathing dragon
alone with no back up. This fearless attitude that Beowulf has is not shared with Dante. Dante
throughout the Inferno is shown to faint on multiple occasion due to his fear and shock. For instance,
after Dante hears Charon speak in Canto III of the Inferno the twilight country shook so violently, the
terror of it bathes me with sweat even in memory. . . like one whom sleep comes over in a swoon, I
stumbled into the darkness and went down (Inferno 3. 127 130). So, in other words, when Dante is
over come with fear or anxiety he passes out and is unable to act. That does not display
courageousness, but instead it shows his weakness of being unable to control his fear. Imagine if
Beowulf acted in a similar manner when facing up against the dragon. He would have not been able to
defeat the dragon and the people of city would have continued to be terrorized by the dragon. This
lack of courage displayed by Dante is what sets him apart from Beowulf and prevents him from being
a true modern

How Did John Knox Change The Style Of Government
Live in Christ, die in Christ, and the flesh need not fear death. John Knox. John Knox was a religious
figure that was born 1514, near Haddington Scotland, and died in November 24, 1572 in Edinburgh,
Scotland. John Knox was influenced by George Washart, who was trialed and burned for heresy in
1546. The spokesman for the reformation in Scotland the following year was John Knox. John Knox
was the founder of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. In response to the King s attempts to change
the style of worship and form of government in the churches that had previously been agreed upon
covenanted by the free assemblies and parliament, a number of ministers allowed their adherence to
those previous agreements by becoming signatories.

To A Daughter Leaving Home Poem
he poem To a Daughter Leaving Home by Linda Pastan describes the very memory of a mother
teaching her younger daughter to ride a bicycle. The title of the poem says that the said daughter the
author is speaking of is older now, but the poem concentrates on the past. Pastan s figure of speech
with the use of metaphors, imagery, enjambment show how the bicycle is a part of life s journey and
the diction helps demonstrate the young daughter s maturation from a child to an adult. Pastan uses
several figures of speech to convey what she is presenting. For example, enjambment is used, where
one line runs into another. Such words are, pumping (18), screaming (19), and flapping (21). The
purpose of this is to allow an idea to continue beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem consists of one long sentence, which is made up primarily of one long sentence. This
represents the different phases of the lesson, which leads into the growing up procedure. At the
beginning of the poem, the daughter is hence scared to ride the bike and even wobbled (5); she could
not maintain her balance. However, she gained her balance and the mother was in surprise when you
[she] pulled ahead down the curved path of the park (8 10). The mother kept waiting for the thud of
your [her] crash (11 13). Therefore, the author was waiting for her child to crash, but like in life she
gained her balance on the bicycle. As the poem progresses, she grows up and becomes smaller and
more breakable, which shows that she is grown up now and ready to venture off into the world. The
reaction of the mother is the reaction of any mother, she is worried her daughter might crash and fail,
but like all mothers they must let their daughters go. At the end of the poem, the daughter screams
with laughter and keeps pumping and pumping into the distance. She is happy to finally have her hair
flapping behind you [her] like a handkerchief waving goodbye

Assessment Of Spoken And Language
The CASL or Comprehensive Assessment of spoken and language was administered by two student
clinicians. The Test consists of 15 sub tests in the domains of comprehension, expression, and retrieval
in the 4 categories of semantics, syntax, supra linguistics, and pragmatics.. These sub tests are then
divided into core or supplementary categories. Core tests are meant to determine basic language
components where as supplementary test are meant to convey further information for a diagnosis.
Depending on the client s age, the test can take between thirty minutes to an hour and a half to
administer, but overall is not a difficult test and yields useful results. A variety of different factors
where taken into account when norming the CASL. The age group used was between 3.0 to 21.11
years, and taken from most areas of the country including the Northeast, northwest, central, and west.
Fifty percent of these participants were male and fifty percent were female. Almost 70% of this
reference population identified as white while about 20% of the reference population was either
Hispanic or African American. Based on these norms this test may be better for some populations
rather then others. For example, if a clinician has a Hispanic boy from Texas, she may want to use a
different test, or at least keep these norms in mind when scoring. Because this test is normed on a
large portion of the population, even with a price of about 500 dollars, many clinics would find this
test useful to

Justice In Aeschylus s Oresteia
Aeschylus s Oresteia illustrates justice as being subjective and evolves throughout the plays to become
increasingly complex. In Agamemnon, justice is synonymous with revenge and seen as simply being
part of fate. The Chorus highlights this when they say, Fate is grinding sharp the sword of Justice and
go on to relate that as long as Zeus exists this is simply a fact of life (1565). The idea of revenge as
justice is also seen in the Chorus description of the plunderer plundered and Each charge meets
counter charge (1588 1594). The death of Agamemnon comes as revenge, the revenge of the death of
Iphigenia and the revenge from the sins of the house of Atreus on Aegisthus family.
The theme of revenge as justice carries on into The Eumenides

Reflection About The Taz Prayer
At the Taizé prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10
minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures
together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person
placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their
burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross statue
was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed their heads on
it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether final prayer
followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this opportunity of praying in a group, I learned
about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative
music.
The Taizé prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together.
This was my first time in a Taizé prayer, I have never heard about it before this class. The prayer is
centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand up
to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the statue. You are not
alone, you spend the hour with people of different churches or religious beliefs either in silence,
singing, praying and worshipping.
During the prayer, I learned that the peace

St. Laurent Boulevard Walking Tour Reflection
Geography: St Laurent Boulevard Walking Tour Reflection
St Laurent Boulevard, popularly known as The Main, I believe, is a historical region in Canada with a
strong sense of history. It is a unique place in the history of Canada, arising from emergence and
development of the various cultural communities that integrated to form a representative of Canadian
society as a whole. Further, according to its cosmopolitan feature, the constant renewal of due to
merging and mixing of culture aesthetics and the commemorative intent gives it a very particular
sense of place.
Also, St Laurent is the immigrants corridor: with garments and textile factories, its many local
businesses, and the theater and entertainment world, it evolved in a lifestyle that even inspired artists
and writers. According to author Aline Gubbay, although the street has no outstanding buildings or
spectacular monuments, it has value worth more than that. What it offers together with continuity of
its long history, is human scale, a line of city life, dwellers in its corridors, who through ups and
downs, has retained a sense of neighborhood.
Saint Laurent Boulevard, for many years, has been a dividing line between the eastern and western
sections of the Montreal City. Since, it has been seen as a symbolic boundary between the English

Teenage mothers are stereotyped as (a) welfare dependent (b) irresponsible (c) lazy (d) ignorant and (e) promiscuous. However, the majority of society believes that their taxes were higher because of government benefits that teenage mothers and their babies receive. The negative stereotype regarding teenage pregnancy in society can be very damaging and discouraging to a young mother who simply made a mistake but still have dreams and goals in which she plans to obtain through continuing her education and obtaining a good job to support her as well as her child. Now, the quality improvement department will need to determine what processes can be modified to improve outcomes. For example, if they see an increase in pressure sores and prevalence of restraints. They could use computerized charting and order entry, along with the evidence based guidelines, to identify specific groups of patients who are vulnerable to developing pressure ulcers or closely monitoring use of restraints. With early identification, automatic orders for preventive interventions can be implemented quickly. With the assistance of the automated consults and orders, the appropriate equipment, the interdisciplinary task force, continuing education, and monitoring, the hospital system would be able to reduce unnecessary use of restraints and hospital acquired pressure ulcer prevalence rate (Cherry amp; Jacob, 2010). The development of economics of many countries such as China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore critically relies on this maritime route. The most used routes for trade and communication among Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East are sea lanes that stretch in the South China Sea and up to 700 ships pass through these sea lanes daily. In term of security and defense, the Asia Pacific Region has been one of the United States priorities and the need for American engagement in this region is demonstrated in the long history. • 6. Neil Postman Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his essay #8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, #8221; outlines seven concepts that can be used to aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. He describes how modern teaching methods leave a student vulnerable to the #8220;prejudices of their elders #8221;, further stating that a good teacher must always be skeptical. He urges teachers of all subjects to break free from traditional teachings as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postman argues that if a student were to see hidden meaning in a word, then they could use it to their defense. It is my belief that Postman may be correct now, what about in the future. If attention were turned to smaller words, then surely our vocabulary will diminish, and the same thing that happened to words such as true, and false, will happen to words such as semantic, and pedagogical. Vocabulary tests should be left as they are. If a student wishes to study words of everyday use, read a book, or watch television. The next principle was thought provoking as well. The use of a metaphor as a tool in education is rarely used, as Postman notes. #8220;Unless our students are aware of how metaphors shape arguments, organize perceptions, and control feelings, their understanding is severely limited. Postman displays how most political speeches are laced with metaphors, and how teacher #8217;s methods are shaped by a metaphor. A student who doesn #8217;t understand a metaphor, or when it is being applied tends to have a more closed outlook. A metaphor, used as a communication skill, is best described in a political way. Think of Reagan #8217;s Voodoo economics, or Bill Clinton building a bridge to the 21st century. Politicians can easily scam an ignorant voter, should one not understand a metaphor. • 13. Prohibition Of The United States Alex Klintworth Prohibition in the United States Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man s appetite by legislation and makes crimes out of things that are not crimes. Even though Abraham Lincoln lived about a half century before Prohibition took effect in the 1920s, he described it quite well. The legislation essentially took alcohol, which had been a part of people s lives since history of cultures were reported and made it illegal overnight. While Prohibition did see some positive effects like a lower consumption rate, other major issues arose that could have definitely been avoided. Legislators failed to take into account the fact that taking something away from the public will not stop them from finding loopholes and creative ways to conceal ways to consume alcohol. While the 18th Amendment may have seemed like a good idea on paper, its many underlying changes eventually led to a repeal and became known as a reflection of the United States during the 1920s. When the United States entered World War I in April of 1917, President Woodrow Wilson implemented a temporary alcoholic ban during wartime in the hope of saving grain. This ban, however, lasted much longer than anticipated. Groups like the Anti Saloon League and the Women s Christian Temperance Union dramatized the evils of alcohol claiming that it can ruin lives. Because recent legislation had been passed like women s suffrage, these groups received widespread publicity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Capital Market Imperfections in Emerging Economies Capital market imperfection generally refers the capital available at below market rates for a certain time period and this result in creating disequilibrium in the capital market. Market imperfections in emerging economies such as China may be transformed into ownership advantages (Buckley, 2004) and this may be emerged from a number of interrelated imperfections listed below: 1) State owned enterprises (SOEs) may have capital possibly in forms of soft budget constraints which made available to them at below the market rates (Warner et al., 2004) 2) Banking systems are inefficient which it allows to make soft loans to potential outward investors (Warner et al., 2004; Antkiewicz and Whalley, 2006). 3) Many Chinese conglomerate firms may operate an inefficient internal capital market and effectively subsidize FDI (Liu, 2005). 4) Family owned firms tend to have easier access to cheap capitals through family members (Child and Pleister, 2003; Erdener and Shapiro, 2005) These imperfections in the capital market may all exist in China. According to Tong (2002), soft budget constraint is regarded as a common phenomenon in socialist economy. It is generally resulted from inefficient operations. Inefficient Chinese firms survive in general and they contribute the soft budget constraints promoted by local government and party officials (Lardy, 1998). • 24. The Epic Decision In John Milton s Paradise Lost In the middle of the 17th Century, one man produced a work of literature that would shock and confuse the Christian world. John Milton, a poet and a servant of the commonwealth of England under Oliver Cromwell, understood more than most the power of Christianity and the effects that it had on its sympathizers. In 1667, he decided to write an epic that would justify God s actions to man, and how sin and death came into being, through the arduous decisions made by Adam and Eve. This epic was called Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost is a nontraditional epic in that the main decision, otherwise known as the epic decision, was not one that agreed with the classic Christian virtues. The epic decision of the book fell into place when Adam, knowing his eventual death, ate from the tree of knowledge because of the love and desire that he had for Eve, knowing that he was not following God s commands. Why does Milton incorporate such defiance into the main decision that formulates his epic novel? Why would Milton, who is writing to a Christian society, go against common belief, and what does the epic decision in Paradise Lost teach the Christian reader? The epic decision is the decision in the novel, made by the protagonist, that sets the scene for the epic, and is the decision that is made in order to instruct the people in the specific culture how to act. This quote is stating that four days will quickly come and go, the days will turn into nights, and the dreaming that occurs during one s slumber will allow the time to pass even more quickly. Because of Hippolyta s unique circumstances, it is easy for one to assume that this quote was merely said because of her unconventional and rapid marriage to Theseus. Theseus is the Duke of Athens, and it has been previously mentioned that Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons. Upon the beginning of the play, it is known that Theseus has just defeated and returned from a battle with the Amazons. As victor, his spoils include, among other things, marrying Hippolyta. While Theseus is expressing his undying love for his future wife, Hippolyta obviously does not return the sentiments. It is possible that this quote is Hippolyta s way of merely cursing the effect of dreams because they are ultimately shortening the time that she has left as an unmarried woman. This type of evaluation is popular, although it remains widely criticized (McGregor, 1957). Many specialists believe that personality traits are unobservable, therefore, difficult to define and measure. These can cause bias in the evaluation and shorten the validity because the respect we hold for the inherent value of the individual leaves us distresses when we must take responsibility for judging the personal worth of a fellowman . Certainly, with this type of evaluation there may be opportunity to speak badly of the work done by others. In addition, the confidentiality of the descriptions as well as the fact that specific observable behaviors are taken into account adds more value to the validity. First, performance management through evaluation allows employee to know what is expected of him and what will be evaluated. Individual wants to know how the other deems to reflect on his behaviors. The first is the melody played by the violins and trumpets. This is the layer of sound which is most prominent throughout A. The second is the timpani and viola part. This is the softest layer throughout the section. It provides harmony to the melody, using the notes of the D major chord. The last layer is the continuo bass It provides accompaniment and bass. The harmonic rhythm is not very steady as the chords only change in bars 7, 10 and 11. The chord changes from D to A and then from A to E and E to A (shown in the musical excerpt). • 44. The Impact Of Police Personality And Coping Impact of Police Personality and Coping on Perceived Job Stress Currently, there is a lack of research that connects personality and its impact on stress and coping (Lau, Hem, Berg, Ekeberg, Torgersen, 2006). Research in this area is particularly important for law enforcement because personality can influence how police interact, react, and cope with stressors (Larsen Buss, 2002). Clearly, police face a wide array of stressors everyday due to the nature of their job. According to Violanti and Aron (1994), being a police officer is one of the top three most stressful occupations one can have. How they deal with that stress can impact the individual officer, the department, and society itself. Research has shown that many officers use maladaptive coping skills to deal with these stressors (Patterson, 2003). Although police stress has been widely researched, most studies do not look at police stress over the different stages of their careers and through the different officer ranks. Personality, perceived stress, and coping may change throughout a police officer s career (Jensen, 2009). Knowing at what point in the officer s career and at what rank the most stress is experienced will also aid in creating a preemptive plan. One of the most momentous changes has been the introduction of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), which have been adopted broadly throughout the world, with one major exception, the United States. Before accounting standards can be considered truly global, this exception has to be resolved. Modern Heroes In Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Although when most hear the phrase modern hero they primarily imagine heroes from today s time; however, that does not mean ancient heroes, such as Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim, are unable to display the same traits as today s heroes. The most common traits among modern heroes consist of people who are capable of some sort of supernatural ability that separates them from everyone else, selflessness or generosity, and courageousness. These traits are portrayed by the main characters of both Dante s Inferno and Beowulf. Beowulf s willingness to go into battle against creatures that could potentially kill him is not something most would do especially to the extent that he does. For example, before the battle with the dragon Beowulf tells his men at arms to remain here on the barrow, safe in your armor. . . this fight is not yours (Beowulf 2529 2533). Beowulf is telling his men to stay back while he fights the dragon alone, that takes a tremendous amount of bravery to go against a fire breathing dragon alone with no back up. This fearless attitude that Beowulf has is not shared with Dante. Dante throughout the Inferno is shown to faint on multiple occasion due to his fear and shock. For instance, after Dante hears Charon speak in Canto III of the Inferno the twilight country shook so violently, the terror of it bathes me with sweat even in memory. . . like one whom sleep comes over in a swoon, I stumbled into the darkness and went down (Inferno 3. 127 130). So, in other words, when Dante is over come with fear or anxiety he passes out and is unable to act. That does not display courageousness, but instead it shows his weakness of being unable to control his fear. Imagine if Beowulf acted in a similar manner when facing up against the dragon. He would have not been able to defeat the dragon and the people of city would have continued to be terrorized by the dragon.
