The Importance Of Food Waste
Through the innovation of technology, mankind has been able to create great, and extraordinary feats
of nature. Taking the smallest indesirable object, then constructing it into a skyscraper or the smallest
most powerful computer. Also through the process of innovation we humans have almost completely
mastered the art of mass manufacturing products making our daily needs and wants readily available
to us. The food industry is a one of many examples of this mass manufacturing evolution, going from
food being made over camp fires to being made in huge factory pumping out fathoming quantities of
product. With this evolution comes the downfall of waste. Food waste is not always avoidable but in
some cases the waste is necessary as some things are not safe for consumption after undergoing
certain processes. But no matter the waste product some form of use should be found for the
seemingly invaluable waste product or a way to reduce unnecessary food waste. Food waste is a huge
problem most americans are completely oblivious too. According to a United states department of
Agriculture report, 133 billion pounds of food went unused in 2010. While animal products like meat
and dairy being towards the top of the list, added up to $105 billion of wasted food.( Waste Not, Want
not 26) While worldwide about one third of all food produced is either lost or gone to waste which
adds up to about 1.3 Billion tons of waste. To put into a better prospective 1.3 billion tons is

Improving The Best Of Existing State Standards
Structuring on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards provide a clear
and reliable learning goal to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards clearly
demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher
can understand and support their learning. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, grade by grade
standards exist in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. From 9th through 12th grade, the
standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th through 12th grade
standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using primary texts in the classroom to build
literacy, along with many other things. While the standards set grade specific goals, they do not define
how the standards should be taught or which materials should be used to support students. States and
districts know that there will need to be a range of supports in place to guarantee that all students,
including those with special needs and English language learners, can master the standards. It is up to
the states to outline the full range of supports appropriate for these students. Since the release of the
final standards in 2010, a two party mix of organizations representing parents, teachers, business
leaders, and other key voices have strongly supported the Common Core State Standards. The

The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay
Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God
created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first,
they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that
women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over
women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and
released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818.
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no
attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of
males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel,
The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given
the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to
mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power.
In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that Prometheus liver would be pecked
out by a bird every day. Every night, Prometheus liver would grow back so that the suffering would
never end. The main character of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is Victor Frankenstein.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People
I think win/lose way to often, it demonstrates my selfishness that is influencing me. It generated a
negative emotional bank account by my sister. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I believe I
made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me, but also with
other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have realized that, I am
trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get back in the positive
emotional bank account. It is quite a challenge for someone who has always been thinking win/lose to
go over to win/win or lose/win. I do believe I have been working on it very well and that it s going a
lot better. It has already demonstrated my self awareness, and imagination, but I have to listen a little
more to my conscience, to accomplish my independent will. Covey s habit 4 I believe is one of the
easiest habit but also a very effective habit to become successful and well liked, without having to take
advantage of anyone. I loved to read his examples, especially the one of the software company that
was almost going bankrupt and accepted to not follow the contract, but then after that was asked for a
way bigger service. It shows that if you think lose/win at first that it might be a bigger win later. Habit

Health Economic Research Paper
What is a Health Economist?
Health economists are professionals who combine their knowledge of economics and the health care
industry to analyze how health care resource are used and distributed. They focus on ways to better
understand the health care system, improve health care policies and the quality of patient care.
Health Economics
Health economics is a new subfield of economics that analyzes various health care related topics. For
example, some health economists evaluate the long term effects of lifestyle choices on health. Others
examine the estimated costs and benefits of new or proposed health care policies. One health
economist may propose more efficient ways to provide certain health care services, while another may

They will also learn about research ethics, economic evaluations and the principles of epidemiology.
During the last two terms, students will most likely study advanced public health statistics and
economics as well as econometrics and microeconomic evaluations.
Core Skills
After graduation, health economists will understand the critical roles that economic reasoning and cost
analyses play in forming public health care policies. Graduates will understand the interrelationships
between economics and biostatistics, epidemiology, public health and disease modeling. Based on this
knowledge, health economists produce data driven research regarding health services, systems and
interventions.
Health economists must have advanced math and computer skills because they frequently create
analytical and statistical models with complex software programs. They will use economic theories to
predict public and organizational responses to policy changes and incentives. Finally, they provide
detailed input for econometric analyses of policy changes and interpret the statistical

Power Informity In Amy Tan s The Rules Of The Game
In a familial hierarchy, it is transparent who is dominant and who is subordinate. The parents are at the
top, while the children are at the bottom. Parents make the rules, while the children follow them. In
the story The Rules of the Game , the author Amy Tan uses this model of familial hierarchy to
demonstrate the power dynamic between the mother and the daughter. The main protagonist, Waverly
Place Jong, is the youngest out of her two brothers and is the only daughter in the Jong household. Her
mother uses Chinese torture on Waverly to enforce and regulate her power has the dominant.
Throughout the story, the relationship between them is strained, as both compete to be in control.
Through the analysis of metaphor, symbolism, and tone in The Rules of the Game, Amy Tan uses the
power struggle between mother and daughter to demonstrate the existence of conformity in a familial
hierarchy, which plays a crucial role to one s pursuit role to gain independence.
The story starts off by revealing a valuable advice Waverly s mother gives her when she was young. I
was six when my mother taught me the art of invisible strength. It was a strategy for winning
arguments, respect from others, and eventually, though neither of us knew it at the time, chess games
(Tan, 497). This advice played a pivotal role during Waverly s early life when she played chess and
competed in tournaments. Invisible strength symbolizes the self resilience to overcome an obstacle.

Analysis Of Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima
First, there is hidding meaning in terms of iconographical layer in both of the two pictures. Raising the
Flag on Iwo Jima is a picture released on 1945, by Joe Rosenthal. It is portraying about five a United
States Navy and United States Marines corpsman raising an U.S. flag at the top of Suribachi Mount,
after the Battle on Iwo Jima island during World War II. The photograph was very famous and
popular, to the extent that it had being reprinted thousand times in that period of time. The five
soldiers in the picture is representing the American navy who engaged in the war against Japan taking
place in the Iwo Jima an island in Pacific Ocean which is referring to the bundle of land the soldiers
are standing on. The scene about five soldiers climbing a hill raising the American Flag, amidst rubble
is here the signifier, which implied the secondary level of meaning. For the meaning being signified is
the strength and power of these soldiers to climb to the top and represent pride for their country (by
raising the flag over Iwo Jima, it can reflect American s victory and s of the war). And more
importantly, there are also a myth conveyed implicitly by this picture. The myth in this picture seems
to be in this way: America is a powerful leading international nation that can defeat all the enemies
who try to turn againt her.

Success By Malcolm Gladwell
In society, there is a common misconception that success simply arises from a combination of an
individual s innate talent and drive to acquire success. However, in the book Outliers The Story of
Success by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell introduces a new and different perspective of the foundation
of success, and proposes that other factors contribute to and can even determine the likelihood of
someone succeeding. Aspects such as hidden advantages, upbringing, timing, and cultural legacies
play a significant role in how well one will do in this world. The outliers of society are the individuals
who, because of their chance opportunities, have cultivated their inner talents and abilities to become
successful.
Hidden advantages play a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Gladwell dives deeper into the success stories of notable figures, their stories all share a common
theme that their success was not just of their own making (67) but was a product of the world in which
they grew up in. (67) The special opportunities hidden in their lives allowed them to achieve the
10,000 hours needed to master their craft, one of Gladwell s essential components for the recipe to
success. Bill Gates, a distinguished figure in the software world serves as a prime example as a
beneficiary of the hidden advantages received that launched him into a path to success. Bill Gates
sheer brilliance and ambition and guts (50) were not the only reasons for his success. Gates success is
owed to his opportunity to do real time programming as an eighth grader in 1968 (51), essentially
setting him up to become successful, as others did not have the same opportunities as he did. If Bill
Joy had not had an extraordinary, early opportunity to learn programming (51) and the Beatles had not
had the opportunity to perform for 270 nights on just over a year and a half (50), would they have
become just as successful? Through these cases, Gladwell makes it evident that the role of chance
opportunities is significant and vital to the likelihood of one becoming successful.
An individual s chance of success is predetermined by their family background and upbringing. As
Gladwell investigates those who were successful and those

Fairness Doctrine Pros And Cons
Kayla Mallari

Pols 155 The Fairness Doctrine was a policy established by the Federal Communications
Commission, that states those with broadcast license such as radio stations and television programs
must present controversial public issues in way that is honest, balanced, and fair within the time of
their program. The policy was passed by Congress in 1949, its main concern was that diverse views
and controversial issues that regard the public be available for society to be aware of. This also
entitled political programs to present opposing sides of an issue. Broadcasters had obligation to show
the public the spectrum of an argument. Furthermore the doctrine also includes that the broadcasters

The repeal has given broadcasters the power to dismiss issues or state them in a manner that is bias.
Ralph Nader an American politic activist explains that without the Fairness Doctrine public issues,
including women s rights, the health effects of smoking, and the safety of nuclear power plants, would
not have not been apparent to society. Many have considered the reinstatement of the Fairness
Doctrine, in 2005 by U.S Representative Louise Slaughter, in 2007 by Senator Richard Durbin, then
again in 2008. In my opinion I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated but also reevaluated
and revived so that it fits are society today. The doctrine should include factors that still protect the
first amendment but enables the public to be knowledgeable of issues, in which they can form their
own opinions on. News and other media today is very bias and provides entertainment rather than
knowledge of current news that impact our lives. I believe the public needs to be fully aware of issue
and political views in a broad spectrum rather than the bias view of the broadcasters

Have you ever taken the time to look around you at your surroundings? Or taken a moment to reflect

the fact that they could affect and shape the person that you are? That the only thing making you you,
is your experiences and what you are exposed to everyday? Well, you may not realize it but this is the
case. Everything around you and your experiences impact you, shape you and make up the person that
you are.

strong, courageous, and to persevere despite everything. They have had bombs dropped on them, they
have had to flee their homes, they have lost their families, they have lost everything. But still they
continue to strive to keep their children alive and to try and make a better life for them. One little girl,

Despite all this, Dania survived and she will live on to tell the tale, but she will be permanently shaped

bringing in more money than most people can truly fathom. When all is said and done what is the true
value of such a company, how much money do they control in our economy? Who is it that can rival
such a behemoth of a company? Within these few pages I will try to encompass the mass of this
company, what it is that drives them and to what extent their influence travels within our world and
perhaps beyond. Although Blizzard was created in 1991 it was not public, it was not until September,
30 1993 that it was made a publically traded company. Upon its first day of trading it commanded a
price of only eighty three cents per share. Today it has a price of over thirty five dollars per share with
a record high price of $38.71 just a week ago. Considering the price it started at this is a remarkable

Descriptive Essay On Fashion Shows
My cousin, Eshna was taking me to a fashion show being held in Kolkata. I ve never been to one
before. In fact, I had no idea of what exactly it was that they showed in fashion shows. In dog shows,
they showed dogs; in baby shows they showed babies. I knew what dogs were, and what babies were,
so that was all right. But I hadn t a clue what fashion was, and was looking forward to finding out.
All I knew about fashion shows was that they involved people called models. The models walked up
and down something called a catwalk. No one seemed to know why a catwalk should be called a
catwalk. Why not a dogwalk, for instance? Well, the answer to that seemed simple. If they called the
catwalk a dogwalk then people might think that what they d come to see was a dog show, instead of a
fashion show and be on the lookout for a French poodle a la Rohit Bal. On the other hand, no one s
ever heard of a cat show, so if you call the catwalk in a fashion show a catwalk you d be alright, and

Why Did Napsster Use P2P Technology
The Napster web site made file swapping over the Internet available via the software necessary for the
Peer to Peer (P2P) file transfer to work. P2P is software that when downloaded onto someone s
computer, enables that person to access another person s computer to find and copy certain files that
the software is designed to recognize. It was used primarily for copying MP3 files, as a result avoiding
the need to actually purchase music on CD or some other format.
The popularity of Napster happened quickly with 15 million registered users in less than one year,
according to company sources. Napster had the attention of the Record Industry Association of
America (RIAA), and their concerns of Copyright infringement. About a year after its launch, it was
sued by the RIAA, which represented major recording companies such as Universal Music, BMG,
Sony Music, and Warner Music Group. They claimed that by allowing users to swap free music
recordings, Napster s service violated Copyright laws. Eventually, the judge ruled against Napster
forcing them to shut down operations and liquidate its assets [3].
Napster used P2P technology and the use of a central database that held registered users information.
The database contained information on the files they were sharing, their log in details and other
information. The database made it easy for users to find and download a specific piece of music.
It was the database that caused the courts to rule against Napster, not the

Problems between the Palestinian Arab population and the Israeli one constantly happen. But how did
this come to be? Palestine was an area that was home to an Arab majority prior to World War II, but do
to many factors the Jewish population increased. These factors included heavy migration into
Palestine after the establishment of the British mandate and the Balfour Declaration, which was signed
in 1917. Migration increased as well due to anti Semitism in Europe and the Holocaust. Due to Britain

A) Government Actors involved in the Camp David Accords.
I. Egypt, more specifically the Egyptian President Anwar Saadat is the first actor, and an extremely
important one since the Camp David Accords involved making a peace agreement between Israel and

Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay
Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer
and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change
(Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on
problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and
more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback
to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to
decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more content on

Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life
as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of
weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but
how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there?
Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a
problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has
ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002)
found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with
a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely
limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life,
such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go
up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on
the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip
down and back up. Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on
that success, which was then followed by

Harriet Jacobs And Jane Eyre Comparison
Womanhood and Solidarity
Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave girl are two opposite literary texts which, despite being
19th century texts, belong to different historical periods. Brontë sets her character in the Victorian
England. Jacobs, on the other hand, writes about slavery during the civil war in order to relate the
treatment of slaves, and more precisely that of female slaves. We will analyse, in this essay, the
differences as well as the similarities which exist between Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave
girl written by herself. We see that they differ in terms of genre, the period of history in which they
find themselves, the way the characters are presented and so forth. However, they share some of the

The way she is treated is denounced. Jane is not from the working class, nor is she a servant. Being an
orphan who has been given a roof from her aunt and late uncle, the little girl whom we meet in the
beginning of the novel is furious at the idea of being treated less than the others around her.
In Bronte s writing, the message is at times, quite clear, and at other time, relatively subtle. Jane
questions the status of woman. Yet, she does so mainly through her writing. A woman, at that time,
should not be free to have opinions and to manifest her feelings. However, through her writing, she is
able to treat certain taboo subjects, at times quite openly and at other times in a subtler way. A woman
is expected to follow the path which has been carved out for her. There is no room to be passionate
and to have opinions. Bronte, however, allows Jane to do so. The description of the weather in several
instances reflects the protagonist s state of mind. The beginning of the novel is a perfect example to
illustrate the way in which the narration sets the tone for what is to be expected by the reader:
There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless
shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner [...] the cold winter wind had brought with it
clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that futher outdoor exercise was now out of the question
(7).
After reading those opening lines, we discover that the fate of Jane

Examples Of Incest In Hamlet
What is Shakespeare trying to teach us about incest? In the book Hamlet it talks a bit about incest.
Brother in law marrying his sister in law after his brother dies. Brother having incestuous desires over
his sister. A son infatuated with his mother s sex life something no normal son will do; no son just sits
there and thinks about his mom in bed sounds to me like he has incestuous desire over his mother? Let
s take a look at the evidence I have acquired to support my claims.
In the book hamlet let s take Ophelia and Laertes for example these characters are brother and sister,
to me I feel like there is some incestuous desires there from Laertes side there are some evidence in
the book that can back up my claim some might think differently ... Show more content on

(I, ii, 15) Shakespeare is trying to make it incest between this couple but in my opinion it s not. On a
google search I searched up the word incest and the definition I found was Sexual intercourse between
persons too closely related that they are forbidden by law to marry; also: the statutory crime of such a
relationship. I m going based of on this search, and to me this is talking about blood family like dad
and daughter etc. now Gertrude remarried her dead husband s brother, not her brother. She was only
related to him by a piece of paper. There is no law saying you can t marry your brother s widow.
Could it be both Hamlet and the Ghost called it incest because they were hurt about her unnatural
marriage and they didn t know how to properly express their emotions so they go by insulting
Claudius and Gertrude?
In conclusion, in the book Hamlet you can find a lot of incestuous desires Shakespeare has shown it in
brother to sister, son to mother, but not quite sure how he wanted to portray insect in husband to wife?
Yeah, I agree the marriage wasn t normal but, I wouldn t call it incest because they are not blood

Why Do Companies Use Competitive Bidding
Title: Explain why companies use competitive bidding and explain the advantage of using it.
Introduction
In the modern businesses, selecting the qualified suppliers becomes more and more important
activities for the companies. Lots of companies use the method of competitive bidding, which is
commonly used for selecting suppliers. Transparent procurement method in which bids from
competing contractors, suppliers, or vendors are invited by openly advertising the scope,
specifications, and terms and conditions of the proposed contract as well as the criteria by which the
bids will be evaluated [1]. In this essay, I will try to explain the reason and the advantage of the
companies using competitive bidding.
Main body
The reason of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The buyer controls the selection completely. It means the buyer s position is more positive and more
powerful.
ASL upgrade
The buyer commonly sends their contract to the existing supplier. It is very difficult for the other
qualified suppliers or small sellers to be noticed by the buyer. Competitive bidding can introduce more
potential suppliers into the AVL. There are more options for the buyer.
Win win relationship
Competitive bidding is easy to acquire the win win relationship between the buyers and bidders. Both
two sides satisfy the product price, and good for them to form the long term relationship.
Better information
Competitive bidding can produce the up to date development and value of the product.
Transparency
Transparent competitive bidding can make a fair bidding environment for all suppliers. No matter the
large suppliers or small suppliers, both of them have an opportunity to chase the contracts, awarding
the contract with competitive price.
Conclusion
Competitive bidding is the more efficient method for selecting qualified suppliers. It is base on the
quotation from potential suppliers to determine the final suppliers. The competitive prices conduce to
the buyer getting more options and reducing purchasing costs. It helps the buyer and supplier to
establish the win win relationship, which may be developed into

The Patterns Of Segregation In Major League Baseball
Another avenue that can be discussed in the sport that is being managed and why it may be harder for
minorities to take over. A look in Major League Baseball, shows that baseball is America s pastime.
With the sport being a white dominated sport by leadership, it s harder for minorities to integrate into
leadership roles. Sack, Singh Thiel (2005) suggests, there is reason to believe that positional
segregation by race and ethnicity, or stacking, does have an indirect, disparate negative impact on
minorities. There are patterns of segregation in the sport of baseball and it continues since everyone
that is brought into the professional baseball world are actually playing the sport and not owning the
team. . Sack, Singh Thiel (2005) noted,

Have you ever felt so overworked that it may be affecting the quality of the outcome? In today s day
and age of our American judicial system, most would agree our judges are overworked. The federal
judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United States. It has
become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in crime, in turn
leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the federal court system to
lower the workload of the justices. From the signing of the U.S. Constitution under Article III, our
founding fathers put power into our third branch of the government. The federal court system was new

It has been an ongoing struggle for the courts to keep up with the workload. The fact that there has

beginning days of our judicial system, as said before, a judge s caseload seemed to be reasonable. It
was not until the last few decades where the workload skyrocketed. In civil cases alone from the
1940s through the mid 1990s, the caseload increased nearly 580 percent. To emphasize the point,
bankruptcy cases within the same time frame had increased over 1500 percent. There is no question
that the ratio between cases and judges has become overwhelming. During the 1940s the comparisons
between civil and criminal cases filed were parallel. However in the next few decades, civil cases rose
slightly over the criminal, but then another issue began. Even though with fast growing civil filings,
the criminal cases were prone to take much more time throughout

Agamemnon By Euripides Essay
Euripides was classic Athens. He is one of whose plays have long survived. Importantly, he was well
identified with theatrical innovation, which has profoundly influenced drama up to the modern times,
most especially in the representation of traditional, mythical heroes as the ordinary people in an
extraordinary circumstance. Apparently, was so unique among many writers of ancient Athens because
of his abundant sympathy that he demonstrated towards the victims of society, most especially being

called Aegisthus after cursing both Orestes and his descendants. After the death of Orestes, the throne
was left under Agamemnon his son, who later married a daughter of Sparta s king. They bore three
children, of which one inherited his father s throne upon death. The remaining son of Orestes married
Helen, who became king of Sparta upon her father s death. Another seduction in the descendants of
Orestes occurs. Later after the wedding, Paris who was the son of Troy s king, seduced Helen then
took her away. A great force was organized to restore Helen to her husband. However, due to adverse
winds, they were unable to sail towards Troy. They appeased goddess Artemis to calm the winds by
sacrificing a young girl who arrived at the camp. They sailed to Troas but there was a lot of

Don t rely on the media s research. Although the media will do their own homework don t rely solely
on the results of their research. Make sure to give them your facts. This is especially important if your
topic is controversial as you want them to have the data that supports your position. When you are
pitching it is useful to have as many facts ready to use as possible. If you have a tricky or detailed
topic, present as much information as you can so that the busy, inundated producer or journalist can
grasp your message quickly. The more time you save explaining, the more time you can spend
pitching the benefits of having you as a guest or featured on their pages. 4. There is power in numbers.
What we are talking about here is especially true if you are pitching a controversial topic. If you re
pitching a controversial topic to a radio or TV show, select the guests you want to appear with you.
This gives you more control of the segment and ensures your message will gain acceptance from the
audience. If you do not have suggested guests to pitch to the producer, and they pick it up, you may

The development of sharecropping was associated with the endless debt cycles that afflicted the entire
South well into the twentieth century. The freedmen endured an economic status likened to peonage,
(Bowles, 2011) in addition to having their hopes for political and social equality dashed. The entire
South suffered, it was the freedmen who paid the highest price. Ignorant and impoverished, they were
easy targets for exploitation by landlords (Bowles, 2011) and merchants alike; moreover, their options
were limited by the overt racism in the South, legal restrictions and partiality. Sharecropping resulted
from the intense explicit or implicit desire of white Southerners to keep blacks subservient to them.
African Americans possessed few skills, and those they did possess related almost exclusively to

Interpersonal Conflict occurs between two or more persons when attitudes, motives, values,

Conflict theory talks about why people think and act the way they do and what conditions and causes

He knows he has Rita coming but decides he cannot be bothered to teach her and just wants to go to
the pub. This shows Frank likes to drink and he has had enough of working for the
Open University. His life is hot very enjoyable and maybe drinking alcohol takes all the boredom
away. Rita bursts in to Frank s office, boisterously and unexpectedly by swinging the door open. She
is extremely loquacious the minute she enters the office, not intimidated by Frank. You know Rita is
different when she asks Frank Do you get a lot of students like me? and he replies Not exactly, no...
Frank is the opposite of Rita and does not want to teach her, as she could be a handful. Rita talks in
her colloquialisms Y know, it s dead loud and has a working class liverpudlian accent. She does not try
to impress Frank when she is introduced to him. Rita discusses random topics with Frank is trying to
explain to her, especially when she is first meets Frank and tends to get confused at some of the things
Frank is trying to explain to her, he says you are? Rita replies, What am I? Not knowing what Frank is
intending. Frank thinks Rita is mad but amusing at the same time. He tells her I think you re

taking this course and wants to be able to show everyone that she can become educated and do well in

Baseball Is The Hardest Sport Essay
Baseball is the Hardest Sport
All sports in some ways are difficult. No two sports are exactly the same with the same struggles.
Playing baseball is the most difficult due to the physical and mental challenges that are performed by
the athletes. Baseball is not a sport that any athlete can just pick up and play.
Professional baseball players have a season with 162 games before post season. Baseball players aren
t the biggest, the strongest, or the fastest. A baseball player can be any size and that is what makes the
game so special. Anyone can be a baseball player if they put in the work to do so. However, baseball
is not a sport one can just start playing and expect to be exceptional at. Baseball requires players to be

Not only do players think while on defense, but also, they are thinking while batting. A player may be
batting in certain situations where they know they need to hit the ball to a certain place or get a bunt
down at a certain place. Again, this is all happening before they step into the box and react physically
to the pitch being thrown. Baseball is a very hard game physically and when players are struggling it
is very hard to stay positive mentally. It is hard to get enough to hit and when things are going bad our
mind becomes evil. This is where baseball players develop to be mentally tough. Baseball is so hard
that if you go 3 out of 10 you are considered one of the greats. In basketball, if a player shoots 3 out of
10 from the free throw line they re going to be terrible. This lone statistic right here shows how much
failure is in the game of baseball and how hard it is. It is extremely hard for athletes to stay positive in
these slumps they may experience when they aren t getting any hits. Another mental aspect of baseball
is the fears players must overcome to be successful.
The fear of trying to hit a baseball is real. Standing approximately 65 feet away from someone who is
throwing a small ball, that feels like a rock, 95 miles per hour is scary. Not only is this ball coming in
very fast, but this ball can kill

What does a household s budget line show? The budget line plots combinations of goods that require
all a household s income and describes the limits to its consumption choices. 2. How does the relative
price and a household s real income influence its budget line? The magnitude of the slope of the
budget line equals the relative price of the good or service measured on the horizontal axis. A fall in

Since the consumer is indifferent among all points on an indifference curve, when moving along it any
increase in satisfaction from gaining one good must be matched by an equal decrease in satisfaction
from a loss in the other good. An indifference curve is bowed toward the origin because the more of
good x that is consumed the less you are willing to give up of good y to get more of good x and
remain indifferent. 3. What do we call the magnitude of the slope of an indifference curve? The
magnitude of the slope of an indifference curve is called the marginal rate of substitution (MRS). The
MRS measures the rate at which the consumer gives up one good to get more of another good, while
remaining on the same indifference curve (keeping the consumer indifferent about the changes). The
ratio of the quantity of one good needed to replace the quantity of the other good and remain
indifferent is the slope of the indifference curve. The bowed in shape of the indifference curve is due
to the assumption of diminishing MRS. 4. What is the key assumption about a consumer s marginal
rate of substitution? The key assumption about the marginal rate of substitution is that it is diminishing
as a consumer moves down an indifference curve, creating the bowed in shape. Page 214 1. When a
consumer chooses the combination of goods and services to buy, what is she or he trying to achieve?

What Is The Purpose Of Luke s Gospel
In the opening lines of Luke, His purpose as a Gentile is to show the audience, the Gentiles, how Jesus
was born into the Word as a Messiah that orally and behaved in the ways of the Jewish culture, beliefs
and values. It seems as though Luke s Gospel was written in an interpersonal way to convey the
significance of Jesus purpose and the teachings of how the Jews lived. It s almost like writing what
Luke observed to help His own kind strengthen their faith and follow the ways of how the Meek is
supposed to live. His Gospel is to descriptively show the Gentiles this man who performed miracles
and fulfilled promises. Luke was writing in awe, which He was spirited to share with Theophilus and
the Gentiles.

Australia and their personality is. The use of rhythm, similes, and rhyme create a strong connection
together in the poem and benefit the readers to understand what Australian individuality means and
what inspires them to act, be, or think like an Australian. Repetition is used at the start and end of the
poem, Land of cockatoos, land of punching roos (stanza 1 and 4, line 2 and 3). The recurrence of land

Is Bigger No Longer Fearful In The Presence Of Gus, Jack...
Book Two: Flight (pages 97 270)
1. Why is Bigger no longer fearful in the presence of Gus, Jack and G.H.? Bigger arrives this time
with money in his pocket and what he believes a more respectable job than what the others hold. He
feels more confident in himself after his thought of his ability to give back to his parents and friends.
As he assumes that the arguments are over and he is in control of his own life again. Additionally,
Bigger has more important problems to worry about than his current friendship, as he had just
murdered a wealthy high class girl. Another important note is how Bigger feels so much more
powerful, he accomplished something that nobody would have thought capable of him, as such he has
such a huge boost of confidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He realizes that to stand up to Britten s questioning is he able to not be killed for his actions so he
expends most of his mental energy to craft his story, it is a life or death matter for him after all.
5. Why does Bigger threaten Jan with a gun?
Bigger is naturally afraid that Jan might speak a different story than what he told P.I. Britten, so in an
attempt to silence and bully him into submission to stop asking questions. This however backfires as
Jan is not the kind of man who would easily give up on what he set his eyes on, in this case it was his
innocence. Jan is also a man that doesn t like things too complicated, so when Bigger introduces him
to his little murder story, Jan defends his own self well enough that the story is unearthed quickly.
6. What is Bigger s plan to get money from Mr. Dalton?
Bigger plans to disguise Mary s disappearance as a communist kidnapping. Following his
interrogations from Britten and how he pointed fingers at the communist party, Bigger decides to forge
a note that suggests that the Communists party kidnapped Mary Dalton. His plan backfires after the
Dalton s actually release Jan, believing that he would give them back their daughter in a trade style,
Jan for Mary. As Mary is dead, and Jan has no idea what is happening, Bigger starts to fall apart as he
sees his plans go to

  • 2. The Importance Of Food Waste Through the innovation of technology, mankind has been able to create great, and extraordinary feats of nature. Taking the smallest indesirable object, then constructing it into a skyscraper or the smallest most powerful computer. Also through the process of innovation we humans have almost completely mastered the art of mass manufacturing products making our daily needs and wants readily available to us. The food industry is a one of many examples of this mass manufacturing evolution, going from food being made over camp fires to being made in huge factory pumping out fathoming quantities of product. With this evolution comes the downfall of waste. Food waste is not always avoidable but in some cases the waste is necessary as some things are not safe for consumption after undergoing certain processes. But no matter the waste product some form of use should be found for the seemingly invaluable waste product or a way to reduce unnecessary food waste. Food waste is a huge problem most americans are completely oblivious too. According to a United states department of Agriculture report, 133 billion pounds of food went unused in 2010. While animal products like meat and dairy being towards the top of the list, added up to $105 billion of wasted food.( Waste Not, Want not 26) While worldwide about one third of all food produced is either lost or gone to waste which adds up to about 1.3 Billion tons of waste. • 3. Improving The Best Of Existing State Standards Structuring on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards provide a clear and reliable learning goal to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards clearly demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher can understand and support their learning. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, grade by grade standards exist in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. From 9th through 12th grade, the standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th through 12th grade standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using primary texts in the classroom to build literacy, along with many other things. While the standards set grade specific goals, they do not define how the standards should be taught or which materials should be used to support students. States and districts know that there will need to be a range of supports in place to guarantee that all students, including those with special needs and English language learners, can master the standards. It is up to the states to outline the full range of supports appropriate for these students. Since the release of the final standards in 2010, a two party mix of organizations representing parents, teachers, business leaders, and other key voices have strongly supported the Common Core State Standards. • 4. The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first, they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel, The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power. In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that Prometheus liver would be pecked out by a bird every day. Every night, Prometheus liver would grow back so that the suffering would never end. The main character of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is Victor Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein ... • 5. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People I think win/lose way to often, it demonstrates my selfishness that is influencing me. It generated a negative emotional bank account by my sister. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I believe I made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me, but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get back in the positive emotional bank account. It is quite a challenge for someone who has always been thinking win/lose to go over to win/win or lose/win. I do believe I have been working on it very well and that it s going a lot better. It has already demonstrated my self awareness, and imagination, but I have to listen a little more to my conscience, to accomplish my independent will. Covey s habit 4 I believe is one of the easiest habit but also a very effective habit to become successful and well liked, without having to take advantage of anyone. I loved to read his examples, especially the one of the software company that was almost going bankrupt and accepted to not follow the contract, but then after that was asked for a way bigger service. It shows that if you think lose/win at first that it might be a bigger win later. • 12. Analysis Of Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima First, there is hidding meaning in terms of iconographical layer in both of the two pictures. Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a picture released on 1945, by Joe Rosenthal. It is portraying about five a United States Navy and United States Marines corpsman raising an U.S. flag at the top of Suribachi Mount, after the Battle on Iwo Jima island during World War II. The photograph was very famous and popular, to the extent that it had being reprinted thousand times in that period of time. The five soldiers in the picture is representing the American navy who engaged in the war against Japan taking place in the Iwo Jima an island in Pacific Ocean which is referring to the bundle of land the soldiers are standing on. The scene about five soldiers climbing a hill raising the American Flag, amidst rubble is here the signifier, which implied the secondary level of meaning. For the meaning being signified is the strength and power of these soldiers to climb to the top and represent pride for their country (by raising the flag over Iwo Jima, it can reflect American s victory and s of the war). And more importantly, there are also a myth conveyed implicitly by this picture. The myth in this picture seems to be in this way: America is a powerful leading international nation that can defeat all the enemies who try to turn againt her. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in the book Outliers The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell introduces a new and different perspective of the foundation of success, and proposes that other factors contribute to and can even determine the likelihood of someone succeeding. Aspects such as hidden advantages, upbringing, timing, and cultural legacies play a significant role in how well one will do in this world. The outliers of society are the individuals who, because of their chance opportunities, have cultivated their inner talents and abilities to become successful. Hidden advantages play a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Gladwell dives deeper into the success stories of notable figures, their stories all share a common theme that their success was not just of their own making (67) but was a product of the world in which they grew up in. (67) The special opportunities hidden in their lives allowed them to achieve the 10,000 hours needed to master their craft, one of Gladwell s essential components for the recipe to success. Bill Gates, a distinguished figure in the software world serves as a prime example as a beneficiary of the hidden advantages received that launched him into a path to success. Bill Gates sheer brilliance and ambition and guts (50) were not the only reasons for his success. Gates success is owed to his opportunity to do real time programming as an eighth grader in 1968 (51), essentially setting him up to become successful, as others did not have the same opportunities as he did. If Bill Joy had not had an extraordinary, early opportunity to learn programming (51) and the Beatles had not had the opportunity to perform for 270 nights on just over a year and a half (50), would they have become just as successful? Through these cases, Gladwell makes it evident that the role of chance opportunities is significant and vital to the likelihood of one becoming successful. An individual s chance of success is predetermined by their family background and upbringing. As Gladwell investigates those who were successful and those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The policy was passed by Congress in 1949, its main concern was that diverse views and controversial issues that regard the public be available for society to be aware of. Many have considered the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, in 2005 by U.S Representative Louise Slaughter, in 2007 by Senator Richard Durbin, then again in 2008. In my opinion I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated but also reevaluated and revived so that it fits are society today. The doctrine should include factors that still protect the first amendment but enables the public to be knowledgeable of issues, in which they can form their own opinions on. I knew what dogs were, and what babies were, so that was all right. But I hadn t a clue what fashion was, and was looking forward to finding out. All I knew about fashion shows was that they involved people called models. The models walked up and down something called a catwalk. No one seemed to know why a catwalk should be called a catwalk. Why not a dogwalk, for instance? Well, the answer to that seemed simple. If they called the catwalk a dogwalk then people might think that what they d come to see was a dog show, instead of a fashion show and be on the lookout for a French poodle a la Rohit Bal. P2P is software that when downloaded onto someone s computer, enables that person to access another person s computer to find and copy certain files that the software is designed to recognize. It was used primarily for copying MP3 files, as a result avoiding the need to actually purchase music on CD or some other format. The popularity of Napster happened quickly with 15 million registered users in less than one year, according to company sources. Napster had the attention of the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA), and their concerns of Copyright infringement. About a year after its launch, it was sued by the RIAA, which represented major recording companies such as Universal Music, BMG, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group. Palestine was an area that was home to an Arab majority prior to World War II, but do to many factors the Jewish population increased. These factors included heavy migration into Palestine after the establishment of the British mandate and the Balfour Declaration, which was signed in 1917. Migration increased as well due to anti Semitism in Europe and the Holocaust. Due to Britain s lack of control of migration, and problems arising in the region as well, the decision was given to the U.N. • 22. Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change (Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there? Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002) found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life, such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip down and back up. Harriet Jacobs And Jane Eyre Comparison Womanhood and Solidarity Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave girl are two opposite literary texts which, despite being 19th century texts, belong to different historical periods. Brontë sets her character in the Victorian England. Jacobs, on the other hand, writes about slavery during the civil war in order to relate the treatment of slaves, and more precisely that of female slaves. We will analyse, in this essay, the differences as well as the similarities which exist between Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave girl written by herself. Being an orphan who has been given a roof from her aunt and late uncle, the little girl whom we meet in the beginning of the novel is furious at the idea of being treated less than the others around her. In Bronte s writing, the message is at times, quite clear, and at other time, relatively subtle. Jane questions the status of woman. Yet, she does so mainly through her writing. A woman, at that time, should not be free to have opinions and to manifest her feelings. However, through her writing, she is able to treat certain taboo subjects, at times quite openly and at other times in a subtler way. A woman is expected to follow the path which has been carved out for her. There is no room to be passionate and to have opinions. Bronte, however, allows Jane to do so. The description of the weather in several instances reflects the protagonist s state of mind. The beginning of the novel is a perfect example to illustrate the way in which the narration sets the tone for what is to be expected by the reader: There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner [...] the cold winter wind had brought with it clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that futher outdoor exercise was now out of the question (7). Professional baseball players have a season with 162 games before post season. Baseball players aren t the biggest, the strongest, or the fastest. A baseball player can be any size and that is what makes the game so special. Anyone can be a baseball player if they put in the work to do so. Not only do players think while on defense, but also, they are thinking while batting. A player may be batting in certain situations where they know they need to hit the ball to a certain place or get a bunt down at a certain place. Again, this is all happening before they step into the box and react physically to the pitch being thrown. Baseball is a very hard game physically and when players are struggling it is very hard to stay positive mentally. It is hard to get enough to hit and when things are going bad our mind becomes evil. This is where baseball players develop to be mentally tough. Baseball is so hard that if you go 3 out of 10 you are considered one of the greats. In basketball, if a player shoots 3 out of 10 from the free throw line they re going to be terrible. This lone statistic right here shows how much failure is in the game of baseball and how hard it is. It is extremely hard for athletes to stay positive in these slumps they may experience when they aren t getting any hits. Another mental aspect of baseball is the fears players must overcome to be successful. The fear of trying to hit a baseball is real. Standing approximately 65 feet away from someone who is throwing a small ball, that feels like a rock, 95 miles per hour is scary. Not only is this ball coming in very fast, but this ball can kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the consumer is indifferent among all points on an indifference curve, when moving along it any increase in satisfaction from gaining one good must be matched by an equal decrease in satisfaction from a loss in the other good. An indifference curve is bowed toward the origin because the more of good x that is consumed the less you are willing to give up of good y to get more of good x and remain indifferent. 3. What do we call the magnitude of the slope of an indifference curve? The magnitude of the slope of an indifference curve is called the marginal rate of substitution (MRS). The MRS measures the rate at which the consumer gives up one good to get more of another good, while remaining on the same indifference curve (keeping the consumer indifferent about the changes). The ratio of the quantity of one good needed to replace the quantity of the other good and remain indifferent is the slope of the indifference curve. The bowed in shape of the indifference curve is due to the assumption of diminishing MRS. 4. What is the key assumption about a consumer s marginal rate of substitution? The key assumption about the marginal rate of substitution is that it is diminishing as a consumer moves down an indifference curve, creating the bowed in shape. Page 214 1.
