Steinberg Oil Pastel Analysis
a two dimensional object with real or implied lines that create the sense of direction and movement:
Title of object: Untitled by Cathy Daley, 2012
Medium: Oil Pastel
URL Source: http://www.edwardcella.com/artist/Cathy_Daley/works/#!339
Explanation: This oil pastel image is two dimensional, and has both real and implied lines. The
implied lines exhibit the movement of the dancer. The contour lines expose the figure s legs while the
tutu and torso have gesture lines because of its loose and indefinite shape. The gesture lines entertain
with the idea of light and shadow in the torso and tutu. However the tutu has more of an influence than
the torso and signifies the bulk of the movement in the image. The wild twisting of the tutu implies an

Also if we were to cut the sculpture in half within the central axis and then reflect one side upon

Title of object: The Fisherman by Saul Steinberg
Medium: Drawing
URL Source: http://char.txa.cornell.edu/language/principl/fish.gif
Explanation: This drawing produces an unnatural scale and proportion by making the fish immensely
larger than the fisherman himself. The artists chooses to use lines to illustrate the drawing. He uses a
mixture of hatches, gesture, and contour lines to produce his drawing. The man and his boat are
outlined by the contour lines, but the body of water is drawn with gesture and loose lines to resemble
the soothing and smooth element of the water. The fish on the other hand has jagged lines and hatches

Energy Systems In Touch Football
1.0 Introduction
This report focusses on the 3 energy systems of fitness before relating them to touch football. Touch
football is a simple but fast paced game, where the main objective is for one team to score more tries
then their opponent. Scoring a tri is achieved by placing the ball in the opponents tri zone . Played on
a 70m long by 50m wide field over a 45 minute time period, the game consists on two 20 minutes
blocks of play with a five minute half time break.
2.0 Three energy systems
Energy is defined as the capacity for vigorous activity, and to ensure a continuous and sufficient
supply of energy for all daily activities, there are three energy systems that work together. These
systems are the ATP PC system, the anaerobic glycolytic system and the aerobic system. Each system
produces a different chemical energy from different sources at different speeds. Both the ATP CP
system and anaerobic glycolytic systems are anaerobic systems, meaning oxygen is not used to
synthesise ATP. As a result, these systems produce energy quicker however they do not last very long.
Comparatively, the aerobic system heavily relies on oxygen to synthesise ATP. As the chemical
process uses oxygen to produce energy, it is more complex than the anaerobic processes. The aerobic
system takes longer to produce energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aerobic capacity can be defined as the ability to persist in physical activities that rely on oxygen to
keep producing energy to fuel the whole body for an extended period of time. Aerobic capacity uses
the aerobic energy system, a system that is used for long term energy and has unlimited amounts. As
the middles role is to align and drive their team both forward and backwards, they must have a strong
aerobic base to rely on. A game of forty minutes requires a long duration of energy and almost 20% of
a touch game uses the aerobic energy

On Wishes By Mahmoud Darwish
Refugees are not terrorists, they are often the first victims of terrorism, was once written by an
anonymous author. Experiencing being a refugee in the middle east during times of war can be
extremely difficult. It can be a time of finding your strength, and building the courage to fight for what
you believe in. Mahmoud Darwish is the author of two poems Identity Card, and On Wishes. Darwish
s village was destroyed from the war, and later became exiled after joining the political opposition.
Darwish s perspective of war and having to mature faster than others are discussed throughout his two
poems. Throughout Darwish s poems he used vivid emotions to express the many struggles you may
run into while living life as a refugee. The first form of anger that Darwish uses to express his feeling
towards being exiled is through repetition. Darwish uses repetition in his poetry as a constant reminder
to himself and the reader that he is who he is, and that he is angry at the Israeli Army. He is stating that
no matter what they try to do that he will still be an Arab. In the poem Identity Card, he repeats the
phrase Put it on record. I am an Arab. Growing up as a refugee, the author most likely faced many
difficult situations based on his country of origin. By repeating this phrase, he is acknowledging the
fact that, although he is a refugee, he too is a human. In the poem On Wishes, the phrase Don t say to
me, is repetitive in the story. The people talking to him

1939- 1945 Were Possibly The Worst Years In American History.
1939 1945 were possibly the worst years in American history. During this time, World War II was
occurring. Adolf Hitler was in complete control. He even went outside the battle grounds to wreck
havoc. He went to Babi Yar...the last place where Jews could hide.
Babi Yar is located in Kiev, Ukraine. During World War II, a massacre took place in the small town,
killing more than 1,000 Jews. The Nazis attacked them on September 29, 1943. Afterwards, the war
continued to rage, only to end in 1945. During World War II, Adolf Hitler rose to fame as the harsh
dictator of Germany. Hitler would then form his own army, then known as the Nazis. The Nazis would
go on to terrify Germany, then would go on to slowly take control of Europe. As most ... Show more

During the massacre, over 1,000 Jews, Soviet Officials, and Russian prisoners were killed. They were
executed at the Babi Yar ravine. ( The Einsatgruppen) The total count of people murdered at Babi Yar
was 34,000. The total count of Jews murdered in World war II was 6 million. This massacre occurred
towards the end of the war. Shortly after the massacre, the United States would jump in to save the
day! They would help the Allies defeat the Nazis and their army. Hitler would still go on to terrify the
rest of Europe after Babi Yar. The aftermath of Babi Yar is not a great one. It took over 6 years to
rebuild Babi Yar and everything that was destroyed at Babi Yar. Many shelters, homes, buildings, and
personal stations were destroyed during the massacre. The Nazis showed no mercy. (Hjelnguard, Kim)
After the massacre, the Nazis tried to hide evidence that anything ever happened by covering the dead
bodies with nothing but dirt and rock. The Nazis were convicted of what they tried to escape with, and
some were caught. They not only tired to hide the bodies with dirt and rock, but they even burned
them! When the remains were given to families, they were probably holding some stranger that they
never even met, instead of their loved ones. Shortly after the Nazis were convicted, things slowly
started going against Hitler and the Nazis. With the help of the United States, the Allies defeated the

Understanding Of Basic Solubility Principles And...
The purpose of this experiment was to apply the understanding of basic solubility principles and
precipitation reactions to identify two unknown cations in a given solution. The first two processes
involved adding various acids and basis to the unknown solution to observe different precipitation
reactions. The unknown solution contained either silver or lead and either barium or calcium. For
unknown solution one, adding a sample of hydrochloric acid to the unknown solution started the
experiment. This was imperative because it triggered a precipitation reaction, creating PbCl2 or AgCl.
HCl was an ideal acid that was used because it was soluble to Calcium or Barium but atleast partially
insoluble to Ag and Pb, allowing for the Calcium or Barium to have remained in solution, become
isolated in a new test tube, and set aside for later use.1 The chloride ions are much more attractive to
the silver and lead ions compared to the calcium or barium, which allowed some to precipitate while
others to have remained in solution.2
After the initial decanter, deionized water was added to the precipitate and the tube was placed in
boiling water. This is an essential step, because this allows for the dissolution of any PbCl that might
have precipitated. Since PbCl is slightly insoluble, if there was Pb in the unknown solution, the
heating process would have caused it to become mostly soluble in the water. The addition of heat as a
source of energy was enough to break the attractive forces

Atomic Bombs On Hiroshima, Japan, And The United States
August 6th 1945, the United States dropped the first of two atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Japan. World
War Two was practically over, but Japan and the United States weren t getting along due to Japan
bombing Pearl Harbor. The President of the United States (Truman) and U.K. Prime Minister Winston
Churchill Issued the Potsdam Declaration which was the declaration that was put on the table for
Japan after Germany had surrendered. Earlier in the war we had been putting together atomic weapons
in case the war was getting out of hand. Since Japan wouldn t surrender after the Potsdam we dropped
the 1st bomb. Japan had still not surrendered so we dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. There
was a combined total of casualties after the 1st bomb of 140,000. The second bomb totaled out to
120,000 casualties. Dropping these bombs helped the United States win the war. In my Opinion, the
decision to drop both bombs on Japan was the best alternative the United States had to remain stable
and to hold military lives. There are many reasons the United States choose to drop the Atomic bomb.
According to the White House press release the decision was pretty much made up after the Potsdam
declaration, which gave Japan the opportunity to surrender, was refused by Japan so the United States
was then in full force. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum. If they do not now accept our
terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this

Wislawa Szymborska
Listening to my own sensual voice, I seemed to convey a very strong knowledge of the poem, Hunger
Camp at Jaslo by Wislawa Szymborska. I extracted the meaning of the poem and supported my
assumption strongly with examples of literary technique throughout the poem. I scored myself in
Criterion A, knowledge and understanding of the poem, with a 5. In terms of Criterion B, appreciation
of the writer s choices, I brought forth a wide range of literary device examples ranging from
alliteration and repetition, to metaphor and diction. I awarded myself with a score of 4 in this category
as although my examples were plentiful and supportable there was certainly more room for analysis.
In Criterion C, organization and presentation of the commentary, I believe I left the most room for
improvement while although I structured my arguments well and delivered a clear and concise

In Criterion D, knowledge and understanding of the work used in the discussion, I felt I conveyed
excellent knowledge of Art Spiegelman s Maus, I cited the unique symbols and used specific
examples of both major and minor characters to explain how symbols connected to the overall theme
of the graphic novel. Consequentially, I awarded myself with a score of 5 in this category. For
Criterion E, response to the discussion questions, I felt that the questions themselves could have been
stronger and the limited time may have given me some issues in terms of response strength, as a result
I had a brief response that although strong, was certainly too brief. I awarded myself with a score of 4
in this category. In the last, and perhaps most academically relevant category Criterion F, language, I
used very concise and academic diction as well as a varying sentence structure and tone when
appropriate. I think this one of my stronger categories, as a result I awarded myself with a score of

The Discovery Of A New Science
The Discovery of a New Science
A Brief History
Physiology has piqued human curiosity for thousands of years. In the early centuries, examination and
dissection of the human body was a taboo practice and consequently became mired due to ethical or
religious concerns. Scientist had no choice but to undertake inconceivable acts, such as grave robbery
in the name of learning and educating. They carried out dissections in secrecy. Human physical and
mental health practices have greatly benefitted because of the discoveries made by these scientists
acts, once considered immoral.
The history of physiological psychology spans throughout centuries. Its origins are traceable back to
times before Christ. Several instances set the framework, which facilitated the development and
growth of physiology as one of the numerous subdivisions of psychology. There are three important
periods and several people that established this field. Contributors include Avicenna (980 1037B.C.),
Rene Descartes during the renaissance and several key contributors during the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries. The breakthroughs in these periods developed a new science and led the way to
the creation of other related subdivisions of psychology. Physiological psychology is one among
several subdivisions of biological psychology. This branch of psychology is concerned with the
response of normal and pathological processes of the central nervous system (CNS). Physiological
psychology mainly

Relevant costs are those that are avoidable or can be eliminated by choosing one alternative over
another. Relevant costs are also known as differential, or incremental, costs. In general, variable costs
are relevant in production decisions because they vary with the level of production. Likewise, fixed
costs are generally not relevant, because they typically do not change as production changes.

c) Cash flow: Expenses such as depreciation are not cash flows and are therefore not relevant.
Similarly, the book value of existing equipment is irrelevant, but the disposal value is relevant.
d) Common costs: Costs which will be identical for all alternatives are irrelevant, e.g. rent or rates on
a factory would be incurred whatever products are produced.
e) Sunk costs: Another name for past costs, which are always irrelevant, e.g. dedicated fixed assets,
development costs already incurred.
f) Committed costs: A future cash outflow that will be incurred anyway, whatever decision is taken
now, e.g. contracts already entered into which cannot be altered.
g) Out of pocket cost requires future outlay of cash and results from management s decisions; is
relevant.
h) Opportunity cost is potential benefit lost by taking specific action when two or more alternative
choices are available; consideration is important.
Relevant benefits are additional or incremental revenue generated by selecting a particular course of
action over another; relevant to decision making.
Short run costs Economists define the short run as being the time period when at least one of the
factors of production is completely fixed. For example, for a particular company this might mean that
they have reached full capacity in a warehouse or at a factory site. These short run costs consist

Thomas Hobbes Theory Of Natural Law
For many years now, political philosophy has been dealing with ideas on how to make society more
moral, unprejudiced and just. Within this concept is whether laws and rules created in society are
moral and fair and how these can vary between human beings and traditions. Therefore the whole
notion of Natural Law governing society has been reached from different conclusions, which in turn
sees Thomas Hobbes social contract theory as opposing to St. Thomas Aquinas theory of natural law.
Yet this does not change the fact that many Western democracies base their moral decision making
within Hobbes concept. (Kenney, 2005)
The theory formulated by Hobbes, argued that the laws of nature are to be seen as divine law, in which
all human beings are bound by these basic natural laws of self preservation which directs them to the
way of the good. (Murphy, 2011)
Hobbes rejected the concept of higher law and argued that the citizens ought to accept the traditional
laws and principles of their state even if they were oppressive in order to keep peace and security.
(Kraynak, 1990)
In contrast to this, St. Thomas Aquinas, who was heavily influenced by Aristotle s ideas of universal
and conventional law and expanded and developed them. (Vieru, 2010)
His ideas centre his notion of natural law, with his knowledge of God. He bases his theory of natural
law in the concept of an eternal law, which is in God. For Aquinas, law is an order of reason from God
for all of the community. (Summa

Did you ever encounter a situation that has changed your view on life? Whether it be something that

what an impact they have on other people. About four years ago i thought the best thing that could
ever happen, happened to me. Until later years, i found out that it would end up being the thing that
would hurt me the most in life. I used to think trust was a cut and dry situation, but it is different in
every case. Trust plays a big role in most people s life and when you break that trust there is not much
a person can do to gain it back. I am one of those people that either give all or no trust with my

GDP is an important measure that indicates an economy s performance and affects employment,
inflation and foreign trade among others. Extensive research has been done on the factors that impact
real GDP growth, but many different models exist and there is no consensus that is universally
accepted. One important influence is government expenditure but economic theory does not clearly
state the relationship between government spending and GDP growth. Free market supporters believe
that government expenditure will lower real GDP per capita since they expect that government

Taxes In The United States
Taxes have been around throughout the world since the idea of civilization came to being and was
implemented. The earliest forms of taxations were implemented around 4500 years ago in
Mesopotamia where people used to pay taxes by use of the commonly accepted currency then which
was livestock. These kinds of taxes were paid throughout the year to finance the activities of the
governing sectors. Looking at the ancient world, there are taxes such as the estate taxes and the death
taxes. An example of a country that had death taxes was Egypt which upon the death of an individual
the people left behind who would get the property the deceased had were to pay a ten per cent tax on
the property they were to inherit. Over the years, the way we pay taxes ... Show more content on

Initially, there were no income taxes unlike today. The government survived on the tariffs as the only
source of revenue to conduct their functions with. During those times, the tariffs were enough to
effectively run the government. In the times of emergencies especially during wars when the
government require some extra funds to support its activities, new taxes would be introduced. Once
the wars were over and the extra revenue was not needed any more, the taxes introduced would be
banned and the revenue would resume it source from the tariffs. It is worth noting that the people
living during this time were not as large in numbers as we are today, therefore the provisions of
services to them did not require a lot of money on the side of the government. The tariffs aimed at not
only running the federal government but also to act as a protective barrier to the domestic industries in
the United States of America. There was the payment of income tax that would be collected by the
agents of the treasury before the imported goods could land the country. Before the 20th century, there
was great debate where the Democrats wanted a tariff that would not be very high and one that would
sustain the federal government. On the other hand the Republicans were in favour of higher tariffs that
would not only ensure the sustainability of the federal government but also to be an encouragement to
the industrial workers as well as the American industry (Seligman Edwin

An Aristotelian Tragic Hero Is A Literary Character Who
An Aristotelian tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment that ultimately leads to his or
her own destruction. An example of a true Aristotelian tragic hero is Creon from Sophocles play,
Antigone. Creon is the tragic hero because he goes through the five stages of a tragic hero which lead
to his destruction. His tragic flaw is him being afraid to admit that he has made a mistake. He is too
proud of his power and his ability to make laws which leads to his son and wife committing suicide. In
Woman at Point Zero, Cooke s remarks about Firdaus being a tragic hero can be justified. Firdaus
proves to be a tragic hero through the five characteristics of the tragic hero.

Firdaus s free choice is to earn money and have some power by becoming a prostitute. After Firdaus
overhears Fawzy and Sharifa s conversation, she runs away and decides to become a prostitute by
herself.
The third characteristic of an Aristotelian tragic hero is the hero s downfall, which is their fault and the
result of their free choices. In reality, the tragedy is usually produced by some error in judgment or
their tragic flaw that subsidizes to the hero s lack of perfection. This is also known as the Hamartia.
Firdaus tragic flaw is her not having faith in anyone. Her faith is her tragic flaw because she is a
woman who is always beaten by some male figure in her life; therefore, she never had to have faith in
anyone because she was abused and disappointed by others. When the police officer grabs Firdaus by
that arm and tells her to follow him to his house, Firdaus utters, No... I have no trust in men any more
(El Saadawi 83). This shows that Firdaus doesn t rely on faith anymore. Also, because of the constant
betrayal in her life, Firdaus fears of developing a close relationship with anyone, including the
psychologist that she talks to. Firdaus reveals this as she struggles to explain the heartache she felt
when the one man she loved proved he did not love her back (Cody). With love I began to imagine

Mahatma Gandhi s Civil Disobedience During The Salt March...
Mahatma Gandhi is inexplicably one of most esteemed revolutionaries of our time. He was born in
India on October 2, 1869 and educated as a lawyer in England. His works took him from England to
South Africa and eventually back to India, where Indian Independence became his focus. Ultimately,
his lifeworks centered on leadership, freedom and education until his assassination in 1949.
Civil disobedience to effect political change is at the core of the Gandhi s teachings. This is evident
while examining the civil disobedience effectively used to protest British rule during the Salt March of
1930. It can also be seen by analyzing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who utilized the Gandhi principles
of Satyagraha to lead peaceful protests during the civil rights movement. Lastly, the powerful
influence of Satyagraha is apparent during the apartheid movement led by Nelson Mandela. Moreover,
Gandhi s beliefs are widely practiced and have effectively brought about change in situations of
political unrest. The Salt March of 1930 is an example of effectively using mass civil disobedience to
bring about change. During the British rule of India, Gandhi organized a protest against their salt
taxation policies. Gandhi writes in a letter to the viceroy of India, Lord Irwin, My experience, ... Show

Crime Scene Investigation Research Paper
Like you see in the Crime scene investigation shows like CSI and Bones, there are many things that go
into investigating shows a lot of those things happen but it takes much longer than forty or sixty
minutes to solve the crime. While crime scene investigating is very serious job, collecting evidence at
crime scenes requires education and knowing of what you re doing, requires hard work, and it can be
difficult to perform this job.
What is crime scene investigation? Crime scene investigation is the use of physical evidence at the
scene of the crime and the use of of the deductive and inductive reasoning to gain knowledge of the
events and of the surrounding crime. Crime scene investigating is a big combination of Science, logic
and law. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homicide detectives only investigate and focus on Homicides. College educations are recommended
but not required. Murder detectives collect evidence like fingerprints DNA and stuff like that. They
interview suspects and witnesses who may have information for the murder. There are two types of
crime scenes. The primary crime scene is where the crime scene is where the crime actually occurred.
for example if a bank get robs that is the primary scene and the getaway car and the lair are the
secondary scene. primary crime scenes are usually more helpful. while secondary scenes sometimes
are the only thing that criminologists have to work with. For example this may be where a serial killer
dumps a body. So investigators may not be able to prove where the actual murder occurred. which
means they only find evidence at the secondary scene which could lead to the primary scene or prove
that is where the crime happened. For example you may find a hair or a fiber at a scene that could lead
to a specific place or specific shirt or carpet. Overall investigators prefer primary scenes because it s

Designing And Implementing A Technology Project Essay
Designing and implementing a technology project that spans the three different areas of the team will
take a considerable amount of time, energy, planning and resources. The system must incorporate a
balance between all areas as well as a mechanism that supports the growing demand for output of
quality product in a sufficient and efficient manner. Since all three areas (victim correspondence,
property acquisitions, and debt management) function under various rules and procedures according to
internal governance as well as Federal statutes and policies, the system must be cross functional and
multi functional as well as legally compliant. In as much, a lot of consideration is necessary when
deciding which product, software, and system to choose. For example, the current system used by the
debt management section of the Team uses an Oracle Business product that relies on dashboards to
compile, sort, and analyze data. However, the victim correspondence system uses a web based system
that relates case summary and detailed information as well as downloads and links to system and case
related inquiries and information. Legalities are also to be taken into consideration. Most available
products are legally owned by other corporations and are likely leased on long term bases. Because
these intellectual products are leased, the corporation still owns the rights to the products and full
access or manipulation or alterations to the products is a topic for discussion prior to

frost Essay
The Road Not Taken
In line one, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor, the diverging roads. Lines two to
three expresses the speaker s disappointment with his human limitations; he must make a choice. The
choice is not easy, since quot;long I stood quot; before coming to a decision. Lines four and five
examine the path as best the narrator can. However his vision is limited because the path bends and is
covered over. These lines indicate that although the speaker would like to acquire more information,
he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his environment. In the following three lines,
lines six through eight, the speaker indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice because it

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Has worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In the leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first foe another day!
Yet knowing how way leads onto way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
The reader can just picture Robert Frost walking in a wooded area of the New Hampshire forest when
suddenly he comes upon a trail that divides and he wrote he Road Not Taken? A poem that has been
used in countless high school graduation speeches and as a metaphor for any situation in which a
person must make an important decision. The simple themes have always appealed to Frost s readers
and seems to speak to people more than a Shakespeare

The Door Shut With A Great Force
The door shut with a great force. I hear the sound banging away along the lost and empty corridor. The
air is cold and my hands have been tied. I could see through the sack which is over my head. I hear
footsteps coming closer and closer. The sound begins to become louder and louder like a siren without
a volume bar. The door opens with a smell of disgust and devastation. These people speak in a
different language and I know this is not the holiday I was looking forward to. The sack is removed
from my head. I see four people with AK 47 s with ripped clothes on them. They seem to be younger

quickly start to break out of the handcuffs. I try to be as quiet as I can, but it is a risky job. I try to
dislocate my wrist without making a sound. Even though it hurt 10 times worse, slower. I finally slip
the handcuffs off. I could feel the numbness of my fingers but I know I need to take the tied rope off

I wake up in a dark claustrophobia room where I find myself strapped into a medical chair. Beside me
I see inhumane knife like sharp objects. The room is filled with a garbage like stench polluting the air.
A man walks into the room with an army uniform. With him three men come following but I still have

because having a spreadsheet this make their work more difficult for them. Having a strategic plan is
very important because it helps them to provide direction and focus for all employees. Also, to have a

One of the first steps involved in carrying out a preliminary investigation include understanding the
problem or opportunity in sight. The analyst must first identify which department, users and business
processes the system request is involved in to evaluate and assess the causes and effects related in the
proposed system. Defining the project scope and constraints is the second step. With clear indications
of the projects boundaries or extent the project scope is determined, while the requirements or
conditions the system must confer to or achieve determine the projects constraints. The third step in a
preliminary investigation consists of fact finding techniques, that involve the analyses of charts,
interviews with users, managers and review of documents , observing operations and finally user
surveys. Followed by the fourth step that includes the process of evaluating feasibility. This step
consists of evaluating the feasibility of the proposed projects operational, technical, economical and

An Examination of the Factors of Algerian Foreign Policy
It is commonly held that a compelling explanation of the foreign policy orientation of any country
cannot be well understood without an examination of its determinants and guiding principles. A state s
foreign policy is also conditional on both domestic and external factors, which may change from time
to time, thus forcing it to review its foreign policy to ensure that it operates in the best possible
conditions to achieve its objectives. An examination of any country s foreign policy must, if only by
way of background, take into consideration the past, for history itself often determines the boundaries
within which current politics evolve. In the case of Algeria, colonial history gave rise to many
determinants which still exercise pertinent influences on Algerian foreign policy: factors whose
origins lie in the past but which continue to impact contemporary policy.
The roots of independent Algeria s revolutionary foreign policy are commonly attributed to the impact
of the extremely revolutionary national ideology acquired as a result of the sufferings endured by the
Algerians in their resistance to and struggle against the French occupation and to the experience
acquired by the Algerian diplomacy during wartime, as well as to the indifference of Western powers,
particularly the United States, towards Algeria s revolutionary war against the French (Stone 228 229).
Algeria s foreign policy constants include the right to decolonization, non intervention in domestic
affairs

Soluble Vitamins
Katharine Jones

Water soluble and fat soluble vitamins are both needed in order for our bodies to not only survive but
to thrive as well. Water soluble vitamins are vitamins that are stored within our bodies and are needed
daily. If we consume too much water soluble vitamins they will then be excreted through our urine.
Water soluble vitamins are metabolized by the process of digestion and then absorption. Fat soluble
vitamins are vitamins that are soluble in fats. Foods cooked with these vitamins will not lose their
vitamins after being cooked. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are considered the fat soluble vitamins. There
are many sources which you can find these vitamins in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Examples Of Literary Devices In The House On Mango Street
Literary devices may be used to add more dimension and description to writing, but they can also
show multiple characters perspectives, too. These perspectives can portray insights on characters that
show true personalities. In The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, certain examples of
literary devices are strategically used to do so. The story includes different vignettes that guides
through the main character s, Esperanza s life. Each vignette illuminates Esperanza s problems and
outlooks about race, gender, economic status, age, and society as a whole. Using a variety of literary
devices, such as figurative language, sensory details, comparisons, and allusions, Cisneros truly
displays disparate characters perspectives about themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One example is when she talks to Alicia about their homes. Before they talk, Esperanza states that
Alicia gave Esperanza a bag with the word GUADALAJARA stitched onto it, which is home for
Alicia, and one day she will go back there (106). Here, Esperanza contrasts her temporary home with
Alicia s permanent one. While Alicia has an actual home where she can live for the rest of her life;
Esperanza doesn t and continuously moves to her different homes . By comparing her home, she is
implying that she wants a home where she can settle and be happy, not like the one on Mango Street.
This ultimately shows that she s not satisfied with her current lifestyle and wants for a better life.
Another comparison is when she compares her age and gender with an older man. In the vignette The
First Job , she lands a job at a photo developer studio where she hides from the other men and women
at lunch time because she is scared of them looking at her. Subsequently, she meets a man who says it
s his birthday and asks for a tiny birthday kiss, and she thinks I thought I would just because he was so
old... he grabs my face with both hands and kisses me hard on the mouth (55). Here, Esperanza
compares her age and gender with the actions that the older man does. She is working a normal day,
then randomly a guy comes up and kisses her directly, without her consent. By showing this example
of an old man in the workplace, she is basically stating men, especially older ones, are dangerous by
sexually harassing young women such as herself. This means that she doesn t visualize men as people
who she will marry and live a happy life with, but people who are filled with evil. Through comparing
and contrasting Esperanza with other characters, a deeper sense of understanding of Esperanza is

Proposed Bill Legislation For A Reform Of The Current...
PART A
The Succession (Scotland) Bill passed stage 3 of the parliamentary process on 29 January 2016 and
will be brought into force at a future date. Critically evaluate the extent to which the provisions in the
bill relating to survivorship and forfeiture represent an improvement to the current legal position.
The Succession (Scotland) Bill is currently in the process of being processed in order to alter the
current position of Statute in the Succession (Scotland) Act 1964 and also Trusts (Scotland) Act 1921.
The alterations being made are currently disputed as to whether they will create improvements for the
functionality of the law of trusts and successions or that they will cause more problems for the courts
in passing judgements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bill introduces a very drastic change to the aforementioned provisions in Section 31 as it states
that despite the circumstances when the presumption of order of death is uncertain then neither of the
parties are to be presumed to have survived the other, ergo diminishing the current legal stance
relating to the general rule that the younger of the parties is presumed to have survived the elder.
However this change has the ability to give rights to beneficiaries in both wills rather than vesting in
the younger of the two deceased persons. For example if an unmarried couple die and leave wills to
each other whom failing their two children then by applying the proposed rule in the bill then both
children will receive from the will rather than the younger of the deceased.
The idea of the provisions set out in the Succession (Scotland) Act 1964 were to help benefit the
younger person who is presumed to have predeceased the elder so that the possible whom failing
clause can be met rather than the estate falling into partial intestacy. A case which illustrates this
outcome well is the Ross s Judicial Factor v Martin when both died and the common law rule was
applied it was determined that neither would have survived the other. This therefor caused both of the
estates to be treated as

School Cafeteria Food Essay
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don t think you would want to. In school story books, do
you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria
food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and
opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better,
advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated to eat unhealthy,
not tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don t often see them buying
these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), burgers
(meat slapped on two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A simple salad bar and healthier, tastier foods (such as soup, sandwiches, pasta, etc.) would be the key
to flourishing and happy or happier students. On the other hand, you may be thinking, $3.75 $4.75 is
cheap for a school lunch , Who would pay for it? , or If it s good enough for school standards, then it
MUST be healthy . $3.75 $4.75 is not cheap with the economy failing and families having to stretch
their dollars. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a
month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50. Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710
a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the $2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive.
Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch system were implemented, some might say it would take a
huge amount of money to actually start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for
billion dollar roads, then it s enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars
could be used instead of it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school
standards, but it may not be such a good choice. Most people eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day,
depending on their needs. How healthy could a tortilla with beans, or a piece of meat slapped between
two slices of bread, be? Not to mention the amounts of saturated fat, trans fat, and salt! If you checked

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don t

Can you identify one company that had changed from being good to being great around you? Jim
Collins, the author of Good to Great, is a student and teacher of enduring great companies. In order to
make this book, Mr. Collins started his research with 1,435 good companies. Then, he examined their
performance over 40 years, to later on, find the 11 companies that became great.
The purpose of this book is to make us see that nearly all operating prescriptions for creating large

In this example he describes that in order to fulfill the bus you fist need to get the right people in, and
then you get the wrong people off the bus, then you need to position the right people in the right seats,
and last you need to figure out where you want to drive that bus.
He relates this with an organization because a company needs to focus to whom they are paying, not
how. His suggestion is to analyze a person s characteristic, work ethic, intelligence, and dedication
before deeply analyzing practical skills. Collins believe that companies focus too much on what to do
and his recommendation is for companies to concentrate on what to do, what not do, and what to stop
doing.
No matter how dramatic the end result, the good to great transformations never happened in one fell
swoop. There was no defining action, no grand program, no one killer innovation, no solitary lucky
break... Good to great comes about by a cumulative process...that adds up to sustained and spectacular
results ; this was a quote he said in this wonderful book, a quote that says the reality of businesses
nowadays, a quote that for us defined in short words the name of this book and the research Collins
made.
Collins illustrates a persuasive profile of what it takes to be the leader of not a good but a great
organization in the modern day. He also demonstrates the development of successful organizations as
a consequence of ethical behavior rather than despite

Steinberg Oil Pastel Analysis a two dimensional object with real or implied lines that create the sense of direction and movement: Title of object: Untitled by Cathy Daley, 2012 Medium: Oil Pastel URL Source: http://www.edwardcella.com/artist/Cathy_Daley/works/#!339 Explanation: This oil pastel image is two dimensional, and has both real and implied lines. The implied lines exhibit the movement of the dancer. The contour lines expose the figure s legs while the tutu and torso have gesture lines because of its loose and indefinite shape. The gesture lines entertain with the idea of light and shadow in the torso and tutu. However the tutu has more of an influence than the torso and signifies the bulk of the movement in the image. • 3. Energy Systems In Touch Football 1.0 Introduction This report focusses on the 3 energy systems of fitness before relating them to touch football. Touch football is a simple but fast paced game, where the main objective is for one team to score more tries then their opponent. Scoring a tri is achieved by placing the ball in the opponents tri zone . Played on a 70m long by 50m wide field over a 45 minute time period, the game consists on two 20 minutes blocks of play with a five minute half time break. 2.0 Three energy systems Energy is defined as the capacity for vigorous activity, and to ensure a continuous and sufficient supply of energy for all daily activities, there are three energy systems that work together. These systems are the ATP PC system, the anaerobic glycolytic system and the aerobic system. Each system produces a different chemical energy from different sources at different speeds. Both the ATP CP system and anaerobic glycolytic systems are anaerobic systems, meaning oxygen is not used to synthesise ATP. As a result, these systems produce energy quicker however they do not last very long. Comparatively, the aerobic system heavily relies on oxygen to synthesise ATP. As the chemical process uses oxygen to produce energy, it is more complex than the anaerobic processes. The aerobic system takes longer to produce energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aerobic capacity can be defined as the ability to persist in physical activities that rely on oxygen to keep producing energy to fuel the whole body for an extended period of time. Aerobic capacity uses the aerobic energy system, a system that is used for long term energy and has unlimited amounts. As the middles role is to align and drive their team both forward and backwards, they must have a strong aerobic base to rely on. A game of forty minutes requires a long duration of energy and almost 20% of a touch game uses the aerobic energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. On Wishes By Mahmoud Darwish Refugees are not terrorists, they are often the first victims of terrorism, was once written by an anonymous author. Experiencing being a refugee in the middle east during times of war can be extremely difficult. It can be a time of finding your strength, and building the courage to fight for what you believe in. Mahmoud Darwish is the author of two poems Identity Card, and On Wishes. Darwish s village was destroyed from the war, and later became exiled after joining the political opposition. Darwish s perspective of war and having to mature faster than others are discussed throughout his two poems. Throughout Darwish s poems he used vivid emotions to express the many struggles you may run into while living life as a refugee. The first form of anger that Darwish uses to express his feeling towards being exiled is through repetition. Darwish uses repetition in his poetry as a constant reminder to himself and the reader that he is who he is, and that he is angry at the Israeli Army. He is stating that no matter what they try to do that he will still be an Arab. In the poem Identity Card, he repeats the phrase Put it on record. I am an Arab. Growing up as a refugee, the author most likely faced many difficult situations based on his country of origin. By repeating this phrase, he is acknowledging the fact that, although he is a refugee, he too is a human. In the poem On Wishes, the phrase Don t say to me, is repetitive in the story. The people talking to him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adolf Hitler was in complete control. He even went outside the battle grounds to wreck havoc. He went to Babi Yar...the last place where Jews could hide. Babi Yar is located in Kiev, Ukraine. During World War II, a massacre took place in the small town, killing more than 1,000 Jews. The Nazis attacked them on September 29, 1943. Afterwards, the war continued to rage, only to end in 1945. Shortly after the massacre, the United States would jump in to save the day! They would help the Allies defeat the Nazis and their army. Hitler would still go on to terrify the rest of Europe after Babi Yar. The aftermath of Babi Yar is not a great one. It took over 6 years to rebuild Babi Yar and everything that was destroyed at Babi Yar. Many shelters, homes, buildings, and personal stations were destroyed during the massacre. The Nazis showed no mercy. (Hjelnguard, Kim) After the massacre, the Nazis tried to hide evidence that anything ever happened by covering the dead bodies with nothing but dirt and rock. The Nazis were convicted of what they tried to escape with, and some were caught. They not only tired to hide the bodies with dirt and rock, but they even burned them! When the remains were given to families, they were probably holding some stranger that they never even met, instead of their loved ones. • 9. Understanding Of Basic Solubility Principles And... The purpose of this experiment was to apply the understanding of basic solubility principles and precipitation reactions to identify two unknown cations in a given solution. The first two processes involved adding various acids and basis to the unknown solution to observe different precipitation reactions. The unknown solution contained either silver or lead and either barium or calcium. For unknown solution one, adding a sample of hydrochloric acid to the unknown solution started the experiment. This was imperative because it triggered a precipitation reaction, creating PbCl2 or AgCl. HCl was an ideal acid that was used because it was soluble to Calcium or Barium but atleast partially insoluble to Ag and Pb, allowing for the Calcium or Barium to have remained in solution, become isolated in a new test tube, and set aside for later use.1 The chloride ions are much more attractive to the silver and lead ions compared to the calcium or barium, which allowed some to precipitate while others to have remained in solution.2 After the initial decanter, deionized water was added to the precipitate and the tube was placed in boiling water. This is an essential step, because this allows for the dissolution of any PbCl that might have precipitated. Since PbCl is slightly insoluble, if there was Pb in the unknown solution, the heating process would have caused it to become mostly soluble in the water. The addition of heat as a source of energy was enough to break the attractive forces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Atomic Bombs On Hiroshima, Japan, And The United States August 6th 1945, the United States dropped the first of two atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Japan. World War Two was practically over, but Japan and the United States weren t getting along due to Japan bombing Pearl Harbor. The President of the United States (Truman) and U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill Issued the Potsdam Declaration which was the declaration that was put on the table for Japan after Germany had surrendered. Earlier in the war we had been putting together atomic weapons in case the war was getting out of hand. Since Japan wouldn t surrender after the Potsdam we dropped the 1st bomb. Japan had still not surrendered so we dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. There was a combined total of casualties after the 1st bomb of 140,000. The second bomb totaled out to 120,000 casualties. Dropping these bombs helped the United States win the war. In my Opinion, the decision to drop both bombs on Japan was the best alternative the United States had to remain stable and to hold military lives. There are many reasons the United States choose to drop the Atomic bomb. According to the White House press release the decision was pretty much made up after the Potsdam declaration, which gave Japan the opportunity to surrender, was refused by Japan so the United States was then in full force. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum. If they do not now accept our terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this ... I extracted the meaning of the poem and supported my assumption strongly with examples of literary technique throughout the poem. I scored myself in Criterion A, knowledge and understanding of the poem, with a 5. In terms of Criterion B, appreciation of the writer s choices, I brought forth a wide range of literary device examples ranging from alliteration and repetition, to metaphor and diction. I awarded myself with a score of 4 in this category as although my examples were plentiful and supportable there was certainly more room for analysis. • 13. The Discovery Of A New Science The Discovery of a New Science A Brief History Physiology has piqued human curiosity for thousands of years. In the early centuries, examination and dissection of the human body was a taboo practice and consequently became mired due to ethical or religious concerns. Scientist had no choice but to undertake inconceivable acts, such as grave robbery in the name of learning and educating. They carried out dissections in secrecy. Human physical and mental health practices have greatly benefitted because of the discoveries made by these scientists acts, once considered immoral. The history of physiological psychology spans throughout centuries. Its origins are traceable back to times before Christ. Several instances set the framework, which facilitated the development and growth of physiology as one of the numerous subdivisions of psychology. There are three important periods and several people that established this field. Contributors include Avicenna (980 1037B.C.), Rene Descartes during the renaissance and several key contributors during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The breakthroughs in these periods developed a new science and led the way to the creation of other related subdivisions of psychology. Physiological psychology is one among several subdivisions of biological psychology. • 15. Thomas Hobbes Theory Of Natural Law For many years now, political philosophy has been dealing with ideas on how to make society more moral, unprejudiced and just. Within this concept is whether laws and rules created in society are moral and fair and how these can vary between human beings and traditions. Therefore the whole notion of Natural Law governing society has been reached from different conclusions, which in turn sees Thomas Hobbes social contract theory as opposing to St. Thomas Aquinas theory of natural law. Yet this does not change the fact that many Western democracies base their moral decision making within Hobbes concept. (Kenney, 2005) The theory formulated by Hobbes, argued that the laws of nature are to be seen as divine law, in which all human beings are bound by these basic natural laws of self preservation which directs them to the way of the good. (Murphy, 2011) Hobbes rejected the concept of higher law and argued that the citizens ought to accept the traditional laws and principles of their state even if they were oppressive in order to keep peace and security. (Kraynak, 1990) In contrast to this, St. Thomas Aquinas, who was heavily influenced by Aristotle s ideas of universal and conventional law and expanded and developed them. (Vieru, 2010) His ideas centre his notion of natural law, with his knowledge of God. He bases his theory of natural law in the concept of an eternal law, which is in God. For Aquinas, law is an order of reason from God for all of the community. (Summa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The government survived on the tariffs as the only source of revenue to conduct their functions with. During those times, the tariffs were enough to effectively run the government. Once the wars were over and the extra revenue was not needed any more, the taxes introduced would be banned and the revenue would resume it source from the tariffs. It is worth noting that the people living during this time were not as large in numbers as we are today, therefore the provisions of services to them did not require a lot of money on the side of the government. The tariffs aimed at not only running the federal government but also to act as a protective barrier to the domestic industries in the United States of America. There was the payment of income tax that would be collected by the agents of the treasury before the imported goods could land the country. Before the 20th century, there was great debate where the Democrats wanted a tariff that would not be very high and one that would sustain the federal government. He was born in India on October 2, 1869 and educated as a lawyer in England. His works took him from England to South Africa and eventually back to India, where Indian Independence became his focus. Ultimately, his lifeworks centered on leadership, freedom and education until his assassination in 1949. Civil disobedience to effect political change is at the core of the Gandhi s teachings. This is evident while examining the civil disobedience effectively used to protest British rule during the Salt March of 1930. It can also be seen by analyzing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who utilized the Gandhi principles of Satyagraha to lead peaceful protests during the civil rights movement. Lastly, the powerful influence of Satyagraha is apparent during the apartheid movement led by Nelson Mandela. Moreover, Gandhi s beliefs are widely practiced and have effectively brought about change in situations of political unrest. The Salt March of 1930 is an example of effectively using mass civil disobedience to bring about change. • 30. An Examination of the Factors of Algerian Foreign Policy It is commonly held that a compelling explanation of the foreign policy orientation of any country cannot be well understood without an examination of its determinants and guiding principles. A state s foreign policy is also conditional on both domestic and external factors, which may change from time to time, thus forcing it to review its foreign policy to ensure that it operates in the best possible conditions to achieve its objectives. An examination of any country s foreign policy must, if only by way of background, take into consideration the past, for history itself often determines the boundaries within which current politics evolve. In the case of Algeria, colonial history gave rise to many determinants which still exercise pertinent influences on Algerian foreign policy: factors whose origins lie in the past but which continue to impact contemporary policy. The roots of independent Algeria s revolutionary foreign policy are commonly attributed to the impact of the extremely revolutionary national ideology acquired as a result of the sufferings endured by the Algerians in their resistance to and struggle against the French occupation and to the experience acquired by the Algerian diplomacy during wartime, as well as to the indifference of Western powers, particularly the United States, towards Algeria s revolutionary war against the French (Stone 228 229). By comparing her home, she is implying that she wants a home where she can settle and be happy, not like the one on Mango Street. This ultimately shows that she s not satisfied with her current lifestyle and wants for a better life. Another comparison is when she compares her age and gender with an older man. In the vignette The First Job , she lands a job at a photo developer studio where she hides from the other men and women at lunch time because she is scared of them looking at her. For example if an unmarried couple die and leave wills to each other whom failing their two children then by applying the proposed rule in the bill then both children will receive from the will rather than the younger of the deceased. The idea of the provisions set out in the Succession (Scotland) Act 1964 were to help benefit the younger person who is presumed to have predeceased the elder so that the possible whom failing clause can be met rather than the estate falling into partial intestacy. Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated to eat unhealthy, not tasty food. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50. Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710 a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the $2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive. Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch system were implemented, some might say it would take a huge amount of money to actually start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for billion dollar roads, then it s enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars could be used instead of it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school standards, but it may not be such a good choice.
