Pearson consulted the plane s reference handbook, which said that normal flight was possible with one
defective fuel pump. A few seconds of wary calm passed.
Then more alarms sounded. The second pump in the left wing tank was also failing. It was too much
of a coincidence for two pumps to fail at the same time it was more likely that the left tank was

We ve got to go to Winnipeg, Pearson said quickly, setting a course for the nearest large airport.

For Colored Girls Cultural Analysis
Theodicy in Culture For the paper on Theodicy in Culture I choose to write about the movie For
Colored Girls. I picked three specific scenes within the movie that displays pain, suffering and
questioning God. The first scene I picked is when a couple was fighting because the wife turned down
his engagement and the boyfriend did not take it well because he suffered from bipolar disorder so he
would snap at any time, during the scene when the girlfriend said no the man turned to the two things
she loved more than life itself which were there children and he killed them by dropping them out the
window and he did this because he was upset with the girlfriend for saying no. In this scene, the man
was suffering from not being himself and not knowing what he was doing ... Show more content on

At one point, she started to question if there is even a God because she feels like if it was then she
wouldn t be in this situation she would be happy and have her kids. In the final scene of the movie her
neighbor and some friends finally gets her to get out the house and attend therapy and during the
session she finally opens up and talks about her suffering and pain and she finally realized that
everything happens for a reason and God never makes any mistakes so one can never question his will
or the way he does things. This movie relates to Theodicy because theodicy questions God because if
there is a good people think there should be no evil and that s how she felt, she felt like if there was a
good these things wouldn t have happened to her. Temporary suffering was present in this movie
because her suffering in pain didn t last forever she knew she would always have an emptiness in her
heart but she realized she had to keep pushing and she couldn t keep being down about it she knew her
kids were looking down on her and would want to see her happy. Ultimately, she had to forgive him
for what he has done but she knew God promised hard days but there would be better days to come so

The Energy Information Administration ( 2016 )
In 2015 the United States produced an average of 9.4 million barrels of crude oil a day, a rate of
production not seen in over 45 years (EIA, 2015). In 2008 production averaged 5 million barrels a day.
This drastic increase in production can be attributable, in part, to advances in hydraulic fracturing.
According to the Energy Information Administration (2016) this controversial drilling technology has
been in use for over 6 decades, but has otherwise contributed relatively little to total crude oil output.
In 2000 23,000 hydraulic fractured wells produced 102,000 barrels of oil a day, or 2% of the total
national output. In 2015 there were 300,000 hydraulically fractured wells producing 4.3 million
barrels of oil a day, a 4,000% increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A 2008 assessment by the United States Geological Survey (2013) of Bakken shale formation
determined that an estimated 3.65 billion barrels of oil were technically recoverable. A subsequent
reassessment in 2013 found the formation contained 7.4 billion barrels of undiscovered and
technically recoverable oil reserves (USGS, 2013). Nevertheless, many in the shale production
industry believe the Bakken formation may contain over 20 billion barrels of technically recoverable
oil (SAFE, 2012).
What is Hydraulic Fracturing? Certain geological formations may contain deposits of natural gas and
petroleum; however, these formations generally have extremely low permeability (Earthworks (EW),
2016). Hydraulic fracturing is process that increases the permeability of these rock formations, making
the fossil fuels contained within more extractable (EW, 2016). Although hydraulic fracturing has been
in use for over 60 years, only recently has it gained widespread use. Fracking begins by drilling a well
and inserting a steel pipe known as a casing. The casing contains perforations within a target zone
where there is assumed to be natural gas or oil supplies (EW, 2016). Once the casing is in position
fracturing fluid is pumped into the casing, and injected into the well through the perforations at the
target zone (EW, 2016). The rock formation absorbs the fluid until it becomes saturated, at which
point pressure begins to build in the well, causing

Irving Hardships
Irving, like everyone, had several difficulties in his life. The first difficulty Irving had was about living
through a writing profession. During Irving s time in the early 19th century, writing wasn t a
profession in America that could be taken seriously for a living. (Hedges) America s publications were
too small (Washington), foreign publications that were imported to America were too cheap, and
American literature hadn t fully emerged yet. (Hedges) Irving was born just after the Revolutionary
War and the nation was just too young. (Dickstein) But Irving s financially dependent family firm, P.
E. Irving, went bankrupt in 1818 and he had to write for a living. (Washington) Another difficulty

Military Revolution Tactics
The Military Revolution was around the seventeenth century, it was an enlarging role in European
affairs. There was multiple things that changed drastically around the seventeenth century that had to
do with the growth of the military expansion, and tactics to improve the country s ability to fight. A
main reason that was said to cause the Military Revolution, said by the historians, was warfare. Also,
power was a major part that had to do with it. The different techniques that were processed in a short
period of time were the start of the Military Revolution. As a matter of fact, someone that changed the
war tactics in an increasing way was Gustavus Adolphus, which was the king of Sweden. Gustavus
army began something called the salvo which was really different from the way they used to fight,
which was the infantry fired row by row. The salvo was that the rows would fire all at once, so that
caused the opposing squadrons to die in massive amounts. The routine he did was that after shooting
the rivals with his pistol volley, they would then jab the enemies with their blades. Also, they started to
use lightweight fighting equipment to make it easily possible to move, and started to train more, to
start developing better disciplinary actions. Gustavus fighting ... Show more content on

That was usually what the countries would focus about around this time, because they thought that if
your country had the best military skills and preparation they would be one of the best countries. For
that reason many officers were able to get education in military schools. They were getting prepared
and well educated to improve the way that they learned their fighting tactics. That had an effect on the
government and had to change it to something that would fit it since military routines were

Hemingway was a man s man. He wrote everything covered both things that happened in World War I
and World War II, he had deep sea stories, he liked to tell about himself, every journey he had done

Sounds strange enough to me why did he keep the game on? He could say give up, though. I think
Jack pride at stake here. He must decide what is more important, lose his bet or his belt. Maybe that is
the reason why he survived so far. Altough we know, in the end Jack made a foul to Walcott and is
disqualified.
From this quote (which was Jack said):
I think I can last. I don t want this bohunk to stop me.
He must be thinking about something just to finish this fight before the game ends. No matter how. I
think Jack thought so.
And take a look at this quote:
He (means Jack) certainly did used to make the fellows he fought hate boxing. That was why he hated
Richie Lewis so. He never got Richie s goat. Richie Lewis always had about three new dirty things
Jack could not do. Jack was as safe as a church all the time he was in there, as long as he was strong.
I will underlined this statement: Richie Lewis always had about three new dirty things Jack could not
do. That was why he hated him so much. And if we go back to the game between Jack and Walcott. I
think he had prepared well for this dirty thing before the gong of the last round rang. He had prepared
to do something bad to finish this fight because he told Jerry and John that he knew he could not stand
any longer in this match. And perhaps he had made a decision or had knew the good answer about
what he had to choose between his belt or his bet. So that was why he made a foul to Walcott and is
disqualified.

Analysis Of George Orwell s Narrator In Shooting An Elephant
Fitting In: Orwell s Narrator in Shooting an Elephant
Since the publication of George Orwell s, Shooting an Elephant in 1936 many philosophers have
engaged in conversation about humanity, violence, politics, power, dominance, race, culture and
principles. Orwell was in fact a genius plain and simple, though in a very complicated way (Firchow
94). George Orwell brings you into his essay with lucid and vivid details the entire way starting from
the setting, I remember that it was a cloudy, stuffy morning at the beginning of the rains, (25) to the
characters attitudes towards one another, if a European woman went through the bazaars alone
somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress (23). The essay starts with the narrator,
whom we assume is Orwell, a white man working as a sub divisional police officer in Moulmein,
Burma where the British have a colonized. Being English, the narrator Orwell is hated by many of the
natives, When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman)
looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter (Orwell 23). One morning, Orwell
receives a call about an elephant ram sacking the town and even killing a native Burman. Ultimately
forcing Orwell into a dilemma of his own morality of what he ought to do and trying not to let down
the immense crowd of yellow faces (26). Orwell shoots the elephant essentially killing him. The
elephants death shows the complex range of human

Essay Rigoberta Menchu s Book
Rigoberta Menchu, a Quiche Indian woman native to Guatemala, is a recipient of the Nobel Peace
Prize for politically reaching out to her country and her people. In her personal testimony tittled I,
Rigoberta Menchu we can see how she blossomed into the Nobel Prize winner she is today. Following
a great deal in her father s footsteps, Rigoberta s mobilization work, both within and outside of
Guatemala, led to negotiations between the guerillas and the government and reduced the army power
within Guatemala. Her work has helped bring light to the strength of individuals and citizen

Although Rigoberta lived in a traditional Indian society, she learned about the world outside of the
fincas and the Altiplano at a very young age. She experiences the death of her younger brother at the
finca. She feels angry and afraid of what her future holds for her as an indigenous girl. Rigoberta
again feels scared, yet compelled, after her first trip to Guatemala City with her father. She starts to
crave change for both herself and for her community as she gets older. She yearns for an education
and hopes to learn Spanish so that she may explore the world outside of the Altiplano and the fincas;
she desires to learn about the world outside and its people.
She is offered a job as a maid in the home of a wealthy landowner located in Guatemala City, and she
jumps at the chance, seeing it as an opportunity to learn Spanish. However, after arriving in
Guatemala City, she begins to understand the discrimination against her people. Even the dog at the
landowner s home is treated better than her. It is here that she meets Candelaria , an Indian woman like
herself, working for the same wealthy landowner, but who speaks Spanish and dresses like a ladino.
Candelaria often rebelled and disobeyed by neglecting chores and talking back to the mistress of the
house. Rigoberta doesn t follow in Candelaria s footsteps immediately, but Candelaria s rebellious and
defiant disposition has an impact on Rigoberta soon after Candelaria is fired and kicked out of the
house.

Biography Of Grace Hopper And The Computer Age
Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, also known as the Grandmother of the Computer Age was a remarkable
woman who rose to the challenge of programming the first computer, Mark I. During her lifetime as a
leader in the field of technology she founded the basis of modern day computer language as we know
it, essentially teaching computers to speak as well as contributing to the transition from primitive
programming techniques to the usage of sophisticated compilers. Due to her extraordinary
achievements in computer science, she paved the way for future visionaries to further their knowledge

She attempted to show her students the role math played in real life by offering visible examples.
During that time she also earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from Yale University a rare accomplishment
for women of that time. (Vassar 4). Hopper had worked her way up to associate professor of
mathematics at Vassar College by the time of Pearl Harbor in 1941. However, a year later she joined
Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency (WAVE) , or the US Naval Reserve for women, in hopes
of more directly serving the war effort. After graduating from midshipmen s school in 1943 she was
commissioned as a lieutenant and given orders to the Navy Bureau of Ships Computation Project at
Harvard University where she worked on the Mark I computer programming staff at the Cruft
laboratories, a program directed by Howard Aiken. (Isaacson 4).
Upon arriving at the lab she recalls Aikens first words to her being Where the hell have you been?
Here, compute the coefficients of the arctangent series by next Thursday. (Hopper). Thus, she
designed her first computer program. The Mark I was completed in 1944 with the help of Hopper s
knowledge. This computing machine was in many ways unique, most impressive were its speed of
computation and its automatic ability to proceed through a series of arithmetic operations without the
need of human intervention. (Asprey 72).

The Ethics Of Non Voluntary Active Euthanasia
The idea of non voluntary active euthanasia is not such a disaster, as euthanasia itself. The problem
that comes into consideration is when and why it should be used. When euthanasia is non voluntary
and active, such as on a patient with dementia, the ethical decision comes into play if there are
episodes of clarity and the patient has or has not mentioned what they want to do at the end of life
situations. Principles of deontology suggest duty and obligation. A medical professional in such
situations have an obligation to fulfill the patient s wishes. The nature of their obligation does not
sway based on what they personally think. Patients with dementia have some moments of clarity, but
because their brains are still deteriorating, non ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s explanation should determine where non voluntary active euthanasia falls on that spectrum.
Morally permissible looks at what is allowed by people from a moral perspective. This differs in a
different place. In the UK, euthanasia, in general, is moral. It can be broken down using Kant s theory
by saying, why has the doctor performed non voluntary active euthanasia, or why will the doctor
perform non voluntary active euthanasia? . By applying Kant s theory, a doctor performing this duty is
doing so morally. A patient ridden with dementia, cannot make medical decisions. The doctor has
performed this procedure because of medical obligation. The doctor will perform the procedure
because of the condition of the patient. It is permissible morally because the patient himself cannot
deny the obligation the doctor should perform the procedure based on the patient s condition. For the
sake of the doctor s duty, he or she is obeying moral law based on the virtue of his or her morality. In
order to fully understand why the doctor must perform the non voluntary active euthanasia on a
patient with dementia who has moments of clarity, there is another understanding that must be
accomplished. If the doctor did not perform this same procedure on this same patient what would
happen?

Supreme Court Ruling Summary
What was the Supreme Court ruling?
The Supreme Court ruled announced their ruling on June 28, 1978 but there was not a majority
opinion. Four major justices, Rehnquist, Stewart, Burger, and Stevens, voted against the minority
admission program for all school because it violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The other four
justices, Marshall, Brennan, White, and Blackmun, voted that the affirmative action is acceptable
within certain areas. However, the plurality opinion was given by Justice Powell. This gave the ruling
a 5 4 in favor of Allan Bakke. Powell gave his opinion that the using racial quotas as the deciding
factor of one s admission was violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
However, affirmative action is permissible by Universities but only if used alongside with other
factors. This meant that Universities had to discontinue their quota system for minorities and that UC
Davis violated the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. Under these circumstances Allan
Bakke was allowed to attend UC Davis.
The main arguments
UC Davis appealed and filed a petition for writ of certiorari in December 1976 because Superior Court
of California ruled that UC Davis needed to shut down their minority program due to equal rights for
every race. In order for the Supreme Court to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The History Of The Religious Holocaust Against African Slaves
Learning the history of our modern world renders useless without applying it to present day
occurrences. Throughout the timeline of this course, we ve discussed numerous events ranging from
the European arrival to the Americas, to the expansion of the US into Mexico and everything in
between. Though all topics discussed are captivating in their way, one struck me for good: the period
of the religious holocaust against African slaves implemented by the whites. As we spoke on the topic,
I couldn t stop myself from thinking that this yet hasn t finished, we are centuries in the future and still
trying to subdue cultures and religions. The religious holocaust against African slaves offers me a new
insight on France s new terror laws and why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to this religious holocaust, we have what is occurring in France against its Muslim residents
and citizens. According to the BBC, a world renown news site, these new laws will legalize the
closing of Mosque across France. It will allow the government to confine people to their hometowns
and ask for them to report daily to their local police station, and finally, it will place security
checkpoints at all main landmarks and popular areas. Though some of this may seem harmless, it isn t.
France has set up laws that would possibly make a practicing Muslim s life near to impossible, harder
than it already is, with all the prejudice against the targeted population. The fear of terrorism will
likely cause millions of civilians their civil rights, identical to the dismay of a mass slave revolt that
almost caused the loss of African traditions and practices in the new world. You may wonder why the
religious holocaust against African slaves is so crucial to the modern world. Part of studying history
and its flaws are learning from past and evolving for a brighter future. France s actions towards its
Muslim population shows regression instead of progression. If they would have some historical
knowledge of similar events and how they played out, I d bet they would handle the issue differently.
In class, we saw how even with the white s aggressive actions to eliminate

Third World Socialism Essay
Third World Socialism
Many United States citizens are frightened by the word Socialism. However, the predominant
ideology in most Third World countries is socialism. There are many reasons why Third World
countries have turned to socialism as their form of government. The main reason the Third World has
taken on the concept of socialism is because of the history of feudalism and colonialism that these
countries faced for so many years. Socialism was seen as a way to reform the land of many
underdeveloped countries. Socialism believes the government needs to intervene to make sure no
feudalism or unjust land ownership systems are being enforced.
For many years, Third World countries were being exploited by the British. Many of these ... Show

There are many aspects of socialism that many of the third world countries practice. The first aspect of
socialism is the rejection of communism and capitalism. Capitalism reminds them of their hated feudal
system and the exploitation that it involved. They also feel that communism lacks incentive because it
states that people should work only according to their abilities and will receive what they need from
the government. Due to the injustices that these people faced under a similar system, it is obvious that
capitalism or communism will not provide any motivation for it s people to work harder.
Third World socialism also advocates the idea of natural resources belonging to the nation and it s
people and not to the individual whose land they are located on. For instance, if a family owns a home
and oil is discovered there, the government will take the oil and distribute it to the nation. This is very
important because previously, under feudalism, if a person owned land containing oil, than that person
owned the oil. Since the majority of the landowners were the rich British, feudalism helped the rich
get richer and kept the poor in poverty. It is easy to see why Third World countries feel it is so
important to distribute the wealth more equally. Since many of these Third World countries are rich in
natural resources, it makes sense to make sure that nobody can exploit their resources again.
Another idea of Third World Socialism is that all public

Road to El Dorado Essay
Road to El Dorado
Explorers always wanted to find the Golden City. Of course, none of them did. In Candide, Voltaire
describes a city that is equivalent to any Golden City. This world is the ideal world that almost anyone
would like to live in. However, when Candide finds his Golden City, known as El Dorado, he leaves
it. One might wonder why Candide left El Dorado, but there were many well justified reasons for
Candide s departure from the perfect world he was searching for. Candide gives several arguments for
leaving El Dorado. Candide wants to find Cunegund, and he wants to be of higher status. In El
Dorado, everyone has wealth; but if Candide leaves with some pebbles from El Dorado he can richer

So, although life in El Dorado seems perfect, it would not be the ideal place for everyone. For
example, in a conversation with the king of El Dorado, Candide discusses ideals that exist in El
Dorado. In the conversation, Candide is very surprised about how harmonious El Dorado is. Candide
says, Have you no monks among you to dispute, to govern, to intrigue, and to burn people who are not
the same opinion with themselves (53). The king replies that everyone on El Dorado has the same
opinion. Yet, Candide is not a person who forms his own opinion. Pangloss taught his beliefs to
Candide. Candide is used to not having the same opinions as others because not many people agreed
with Pangloss s views. A world where everyone agrees with one another might seem a little mundane
to him. A mundane world would not be a perfect world for Candide. It seems Candide likes the
excitement and the drama that a less perfect world would bring him. In the last chapter, a wise Turk
told Candide, I have no more then twenty acres of ground, the whole of which I cultivate myself with
the help of my children; and our labor keeps off from us three great evils idleness, vice, and want (79).
These great evils all existed in some form in El Dorado. Want exists in El Dorado because Candide
wants the riches of the land. This is proven by the fact that Candide takes some of the

Social Disorganization 2
Introduction
The two theorist that developed the social disorganization theory were Clifford Shaw and Henry D.
Mckay according to their book Juvenile Delinquency in Urban Areas they created this theory
throughout research they were doing. The two theorists of the social disorganization theory were
criminology researchers from the Chicago School . Social disorganization theory is at the macro level.
It looks among different communities and neighborhoods. And it studies many people in the
neighborhoods not just one single individual. This theory is the most valid at the macro level because
crime rates are explained better in this theory than any other. How Shaw and Mckay created ... Show

One policy implication of the theory is community project and create social organizations. Some of
the ways they can do this is clean up disorder, have recreation programs for youth and increase
influence over politicians. Another policy implication is gang intervention. This is where trained gang
intervention workers connect with gang members to provide crisis intervention to stop future violent
situations, make peace treaties between rival gangs and provide positive opportunities to gang
members like occupational training, employment and drug alcohol abuse treatment. Last policy
implication of the theory is crime prevention and treatment. When neighborhoods try to get all the

Roller Coasters Essay
Roller Coaster
For many people, there is only one reason to go to an amusement park: the roller coaster. Some people
call it the scream machine, with good reason. The history of this ride reflects a constant search for
greater and more death defying thrills.
How does a roller coaster work?
What you may not realize as you re cruising down the track at 60 miles an hour is that the coaster has
no engine. The car is pulled to the top of the first hill at the beginning of the ride, but after that the

Once you re underway, different types of wheels help keep the ride smooth. Running wheels guide the

final set of wheels keeps the coaster on the track even if it s inverted. Compressed air brakes stop the

Wooden or steel coaster: Does it make a difference?
Roller coasters can be wooden or steel, and can be looping or nonlooping. You ll notice a big
difference in the ride depending on the type of material used. In general, wooden coasters are
nonlooping. They re also not as tall and not as fast, and they don t

Customer service performance is a measure of how well the logistics system functions in creating time
and place utility, with a focus on external customers. The level of customer service provided to
customers determines whether the organization will retain existing customers and how many new
customers will atract.
Definition of Customer Service
The definition of customer service varies across organizations. Suppliers and their customers can view
the concept of customer service quite differently. In a broad sense, customer service is the measure of
how well logistics systems is performing providing time and place utility for a product or service.
* Definition of Customer Service
Customer service can be defined as: a process which takes place between the buyer, seller and third
party. The process results in a value added to the product or service exchanged. This value added in
the exchange process might be short term as in a single transaction or longer term as in a contractual
relationship. The value added is also shared, in that each of the parties to the transaction than it was
before the transaction took place. Thus, in a process view: Customer Service is a process for providing
significant value added benefits to the supply chain in a cost effective way. Example: KEY

The Four Families of the Filovirus Ebola
The filovirus Ebola consists of 4 families: Marburg, Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, and Ebola Reston. It is
a rather simple virus in structure; each contain a single strand RNA strand and 7 different proteins, 3
which are only slightly understood and 4 that are completely unknown. The virus harms the immune
system like the HIV virus, but Ebola causes an explosive attack. The virus is associated with the
measles and mumps family, pneumonia viruses, parainfluenza viruses which include colds, and
respiratory system related viruses. Unlike common viruses which are ball shaped, Ebola s shape
represents that similar to a shepherd s crook, a long snake like thread that looks like a worm. Because
the Ebola virus has a distinct structure, it has been classified as a thread virus in its own family of
viruses, the filoviruses.

She originated from an African organism but received a German name. First identified in an old city of
central Germany in 1967, Marburg devastated the town, killing 1 out of 4 victims and causing effects
that resembled rabies. Scientists analyzed the virus structure and found strands and strands of tangled
rope, some wrapped in looks similar to donuts. In this way, for some time, Marburg was called
stretched rabies, its worm like shapes stretched out unlike the rabies virus which is bullet shaped.
Effects
Marburg attacks human tissue like nuclear radiation, damaging the nervous system and especially the

The Conservative Party Government Era During 1951-1964
The Conservative Party Government Era during 1951 1964 is a period which has been politically
criticized throughout the years specifically that of Britain Politics. During this time, the Conservative
government was said to have pursued mainly Keynesian economic policies which was centrally
focused on reducing inflation, to maintain growth and promote stability but despite the Conservatives
attempts to revive the Britain economy through industrialism, increase standard of living and
encouragement for consumerism there was the development of a stagnant economy which eventually
produced an increase in unemployment, inflation and interest rates for consumer products and loans.
The Labour government described the period of 1951 64 as Thirteen Wasted Years as they felt that
during this period Britain experienced economic chaos and turmoil. This was quite the opposite view
for that of the Conservatives, particularly Macmillan who expressed in his speech that the people had
... never had it so good and encouraged his supporters and opponents to ... Go around the country, go

Exposing Our Children to Subliminal Messages
President Herbert Hoover once said that, Children are our most valuable resource. Everybody knows
the saying The children are our future. If everyone knows this saying than why are parents exposing
our future to inappropriate and explicit content. This is because most people do not realize the explicit
content their children are being exposed to. The shows, movies, and even commercials children are
watching effect not only their actions and thought process but can also effect the future decisions and
choices they make. From the day we are born to the day we die we have seen many different movies
and seen many different TV shows; while we are watching and hearing these through our own eyes
and ears we do not truly realize what our brains are consuming, because in reality we are viewing and
hearing much more than we can naturally see. Subliminal messages are prearranged thoughts or ideas
placed into the subconscious mind. Subliminal messages involve reacting to stimuli that are above
your physiological threshold but below your perceptual thresholds. So basically your brain processes
the messages without you knowing. The two main types of subliminal messaging are auditory and
visual. In these two categories there are also subcategories. According to Anthony Pratkanis and
Anthony Greenwald, who are Psychology professors, have defined these four different subcategories
as: Subthreshold stimuli which are presented at energy levels too weak to be detected by the audience.

women see themselves. Young women are constantly comparing themselves to Kendall Jenner, Kim
Kardashian, or even their best friend.
b. Relevance statement:
i. Many people can relate to media being the blame for eating disorders because they ve either dealt
with this or know someone who has had an eating disorder due to what the media says you should
look like.
c. Thesis statement:
i. When thinking of how the media can manipulate your idea of what a perfect body is, it makes since
that it is the blame for women having eating disorders.
d. Credibility statement:
i. I ve known quite a few women in my life that has gotten eating disorders due to what they think
they should look like because of what the media displays to us.
e. Preview of Main Points: in order to back up my argument, I ve come up with three points to

Molecule 2-Formylphenyl Configuration
In our molecule 2 formylphenyl, tosyl group and 4 methylbenzene fluorophenyl prop 2 enoate are
attached at N1 atom. The atoms around the sulfonamide S1 atom in the MFMSF are arranged in a
slightly distorted tetrahedral arrangement configuration. The largest deviation is in the angle O3 S1

Multicultural Issues In Multicultural Education
Multicultural Issues Raquel mentions she failed the seventh grade; as a result she was placed in
special classes. She also stated she does not see the point of going to school. Brammer (2004)
mentions language barriers is a hindrance among Latin American while in school. Many Latin
Americans are bilingual; however, the will speak little English outside of the school setting. This
causes complications due to their primary language is Spanish which is spoken by family and friends
(Brammer, 2004). Additionally, Latin American endures a vast amount of peer pressure to do poorly in
school or to drop out. One method to reduce the dropout rate of Latin Americans is teachers can make
reasonable accommodation to their lesson plan to the address the students needs. Also involving the
child s parents in their educations with the use of interpreters can assist the child to thrive
educationally (Amy Buttler, personal communication, November 7, 2017). It is mentioned that Raquel
s family has strong ethnicity rooted in the Costa Rican lineage. Latin Americans tend to have strong
family ties that rely on the support and strength of each other. Familismo is a part of their cultural
placing high value on the family that extends past the nuclear family (e.g. grandparents and extended
family members) (Brammer, 2004). It is beneficial to be close with one s family; however, Brammer

The Age Of Anxiety By Auden
On the Ages and Stages
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an Ocean; if a few drops of the Ocean are dirty, the
Ocean does not become dirty . Mahatma Gandhi
Humanity has always petitioned the idea of impending doom upon Earth and its inhabitants, that our
sins will soon spill upon the dried cracking crust and salvation awaits the worthy above with open
gates and waterfalls. Despite religious conceptions, humans still walk the material world; searching
every crevice of knowledge hoping that one day meaning will be found in our sinful journey through
time. Anxiety of what awaits the ending days plunges humans deeper into fear and doubt, giving W. H.
Auden a needles amount of material for his sardonic masterpiece on the human function, The Age of
Anxiety. Auden truly encapsulates diversity in his writing, always transitioning from prose to verse
and from thought to speech. Auden begins part three of The Age of Anxiety in prose with At first all is
dark and each walks alone. What they share is only the feelings of remoteness and desertion, of having
marched for miles and miles, of having lost their bearings, of a restless urge to find water , then
beginning the dialogue in verse with
Groping through fog, I begin to hear
A salt lake lapping:
Dotterels and dunlins on its dark shore .
The variations in The Age of Anxiety allow for infinite intrigue just like with music, hearing the same
thing is boring and dry. Looking past rhetorical analysis and

Compare Utopia And A Man For All Seasons
In Utopia and A Man for All Seasons, written by Thomas More, More analyses politics through
different perspective. More travels to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry the
VIII. Here More is introduced to Raphael Hythloday, a veteran traveler. Hythloday has a great depth
of knowledge and understanding of governments of many nations and in the book it recounts their
conversations.Utopia gives readers insight in the the ways politics are influenced and through More s
and Raphael s experience one can notice the different ways persuasion is used with in politics.
Raphael s story about theft and punishment can be used to note how to persuade advisors to the Kings,
and More s ideas between civilized and academic advice can be used to persuade the King. In A Man
for All Seasons, More is faced with the decision to save his life or protect his integrity. Raphael s and
More discuss the effects of why the punishment for thievery is unnecessary and ultimately ineffective
when it comes to solving the problem. This conversation depicts a perfect way in which advisors can
be persuaded to a contrasting idea, because Morton, head advisor to the King, doesn t believe in the
new way Raphael thinks thievery should be punished but then is convinced by parts of Raphael s
ideas. More brings up the idea that the most effective way to influence public affairs is to gain the
confidence of some great king and give him advice (20). Raphael s disagrees, Kings are more
interested in the science of war than in useful peacetime techniques (20). Though Raphael doesn t
believe going directly to the king to advise, he also sees many problems with the councillors. Advisors
are either too wise to need, or too conceited to take advice from anyone else (20). Raphael brings up
that he has even seen this in England, which transitions their conversion into the punishment for
thievery. Raphael believes that the death penalty is too severe, and as a deterrent it s quite ineffective
(22). Most steal when they are desperate and no penalty on earth will stop people, and it would be
more effective to provide everyone with some means of livelihood so that they wouldn t steal in the
first place (22). This applies to more

The Natural Hair Movement Essay
There has been a notable amount of conversation on the internet on the rebirth of the natural hair
movement. Cherise Luter (2014) states that despite afros and the natural hair movement not being a
new concept (i.e. the Black Power Movement), it has gone under what she calls a refreshing change .
Furthermore, what used to be I m black and I m proud , has been replaced with I m me and I m proud
(Luter 2016). So, what is the natural hair movement? It is defined as a movement where black women
decide to not conform to the social norms of chemically altering their hair and wearing it in its natural,
kinky, or curled state (Joignot 2015). The movement could also be considered as an outlet for black
women to display their racial and cultural pride or to articulate their political position (Brown
2014:297). However, simply the terminology movement is something that should be shocking to
many. There is a great amount of historical context behind the continuous influence Eurocentric
beauty ideals have had on black women for centuries. According to Nadia Brown (2014), Black
natural hair throughout history has proven to be recognized as either unintended or intended personal
and political statements (298). the beauty standard in Western society which praises European hair
textures, has influenced many black women to be critical of other black women who choose to
chemically straighten their hair, accusing them of being subservient to the dominant and pervasive

Benefits Of Classical Instrumental Music Education
Introduction Classical instrumental music education has developed into a luxury that mostly only the
middle classes and higher classes can afford. While classroom music education at schools provides an
overview of musical knowledge and performance, it does not always allow the opportunity for an in
depth specialisation in instrumental practice. Music education is important for children s development
and should be accessible to all. Multiple studies on the impact of music on the brain have been
conducted and the field of study is still in its early stages of research, but experts agree that music
education, and especially the practise of a musical instrument, is important for all children.
Unfortunately the cost of music lessons and other barriers restrict its access to underprivileged
children in particular. Non profit organisations around the world are making classical music education
available for free for underprivileged children in the belief that it does not only help in their
development, but can also change a society. El ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

School Is Bad For Children By John Holt
This nation s best and strongest leaders attended school as children. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy
and Franklin D. Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed
to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were
inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing
homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part
of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents (
School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free
children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is
harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a
few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always
have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued)
Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence
to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his
experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools...
(Holt 75), and In many schools... he can t even talk to them at lunch (Holt 73). Who are these schools?

On August 7, 1945 the headline of the front page of the New York Times read: First Atomic Bomb

Now the debate between historians on the question of whether Truman s decision to use the atomic
bomb was correct or not had begun. There are critics and historians who say that Japan was already
beat and that the war could have ended by negotiations. In their opinions because Germany had

An answer to the problem had been handed to Truman by Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson when
he asked to speak to the President about an urgent matter. Truman wrote in his Memoirs: Stimson told

development of a new explosive of almost unbelievable destructive power.5 Only a handful of people
knew about the bomb or the research on the use of atomic energy for military purposes. Now Truman
had been informed about the best kept secret of World War II. Truman s military advisers were
working on ways to end the war. One of their plans was an invasion of Japan. On June 18th the
President met with his military advisers who recommended an invasion of Kyushu. The operation

wounded, and 3,500 missing in action for a total of 193,000 casualties.7 Truman did not like the high
numbers of casualties that the invasion was reported to bring. He had Secretary Stimson to head up a

unnecessary, and over excessive. One specific law that has this connotation is you shall not wear
Shatnez, wool and linen together (Deuteronomy 22: 9 11). Why wool and linen together? Why only
these to fabrics? These questions are left unanswered in the Hebrew Bible because God or the writers
offered no explanation, thus, leaving the reader to ponder these thoughts. If we delve deep into these
questions, there are underlying explanations for this mysterious law throughout the Hebrew Bible,
especially in Genesis, as most of these laws were based off human social error that occurred in this
time period of the Bible. Although God s law of Shatnez seems like a strange request to order on the
people, it could have two possible interpretations. Its purpose could be one of protectionary intent in
order to further the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, both the priestly garments and the tabernacle weavings were a combination of wool and
linen. The priest s undergarment was linen, and the vestment was made of wool. In this religious
context, this law seemed to be used more for a sense of separation. The law assists in portraying the
division between just regular people and the people who decide to devote their lives to God and
become priests. Wearing garment that contains wool and linen together, like in the priest s girdle,
might show a sense of holiness and closeness to God. The girdle itself is used, to protect against any
evil effect (Bacher 213). The law of Shatnez in situations of protection can also be broken. As long as
wool and linen are used for the protection or benefit of the body , or for its warmth (Bacher 213) and
not worn as an ordinary garment, it is acceptable to wear in

Essay on Education and Virginia’s Woolf’s A Room of...
Only the gold and silver flowed now, not from the coffers of the king, but from the purses of men who
had made, say a fortune from industry, and returned, in their wills, a bounteous share of it to endow
more chairs, more lectureships, more fellowships in the university where they had learnt their craft
(754). This is a quote from Virginia s Woolf s essay, A Room of One s Own . Here she is making a
point about universities and the funding that they received from men that had gone to school there.
Woolf s essay takes place during the early nineteen hundreds when most women did not attend a
university. There was great inequality of those who attended school because men had control over all
the money. The men in society either received ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thankfully times have changed, and women writers are recognized equally as men are today in
society. The main reason is that women today have an equal chance at education. Education today is
open to everyone, because education can be paid for, or funded in various ways.
Universities today are much easier to attend for anyone that wishes to go to school. There are so many
different types of programs out there today that make education more affordable for people that do not
have the assets to pay for an education themselves. There are many forms of financial aid available for
specific groups of people. For example, there are scholarship programs set up specifically for women,
or programs set up specifically for minorities. There are also programs set up for people with certain
disabilities. These programs are set up in this sort of way to give everyone a chance to fit in to one of
the specific categories. There are many ways to apply for these types of financial aid. You can do them
through your high school, place of work, or even find them over the internet.
What about the people that don t fit into these specific categories? For these people, there are general
financial aid programs established. These programs are set up by private, public, or government
institutions. These programs include scholarships, student loans, grants, and many more. Many of
these types of financial aid

Big Idea Case Study
Lean Thinking:
Step 1 Value:
In an extremely competitive toy industry; Michael Collins came up with the BIG Idea group (BIG).
The purpose of this group is to find a way to exist in this industry, while making profits and achieving
objectives. The objective is to process the idea as a resource and transform a valuable product into a
highly profitable business (Economies of scales). According to Collins, The basic concept (company
Policy) was to create a company that would tap into the incredible entrepreneurial power of legions of
individual inventors. BIG saw that the players in the market were lacking imagination and innovation.
Thus the group saw the opportunity to enter the toy industry and attempt to capture market shares and

Pull The pull approach is how quickly a company fills a customer s demand for a product or service.
BIG idea group had the ability to produce the product and present the product to the buyer in the most
cost efficient way possible. BIG ideas were pulled as follows:
Companies outsourcing their unsolicited ideas to BIG. These companies did not have the time or staff
to seek out potential good ideas. (Linkage)
BIG draws on their existing knowledge on what the idea buying companies are looking for in a new
product.
Take for example the case of Tiny Totes. A woman and her two friends had a great idea that needed
further development. With the help and knowledge of BIG group, they were able to refine this product
and were able to market this product to make it a reality.

Patents Process
A patent for an invention is the grant of a property right to the inventor, issued by the United States
Patent and Trademark Office. Generally, the term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which
the application for the patent was filed in the United States or, in special cases, from the date an earlier
related application was filed, subject to the payment of maintenance fees. U.S. patent grants are
effective only within the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. possessions. Under certain

Frostbite Analysis
When the only two goods you have, left are your dog and the clothes you have on you when it is
below zero outside and you are about to die is why the man has the hardest conflict. The Man is
experiencing his first winter in the brutally cold weather and has to travel a moderate distance. He
thinks he is wearing enough layers, but he doesn t think he needs to cover his face. Once he gets out
on his journey he realizes it is way colder outside than what he thought. He starts to become very cold
and builds a fire to keep warm, but must keep on the journey and hopefully so he doesn t die. The man
goes through a lot like suffering from frostbite, walking forever in the snow, and making sure he is
going the right way on this long journey is just some of the hard challenges the man is facing. ... Show

When I was, little I didn t listen to my parents that I should put gloves on when it was 2 degrees
outside and so, consequently I acquired a small case of frostbite and it hurts and itches horribly. In the
story the man has to stay focused on the trail or he will die. Some of the minor side effects of frostbite
are numbness of the area, tingling, blood filled blisters, skin turns different colors and so on. If you
were walking in a foot or more of snow you would not want to have these side effects as a distraction.
These side effects are just some of the beginning side effects of being in cold temperatures. I m
guessing this wasn t in the 21st century due to he didn t have something to his destination him there
like a dog sled team or a snowmobile. Back then they didn t make as warm clothes as they do now so
if someone did the long hike in the snow with modern clothes they would get moderately cold. The
person with the modern clothes may not get as cold as the other guy but will eventually get cold.
These are just some of many reasons why I believe this man had the hardest

The Disappearance of the Bees Essay
The Disappearance of the Bees If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would
only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals,
no more man. The quote above is often attributed to Albert Einstein but was actually believed to have
been said by this brilliant man is not true. It was originally written down by Maurice Maeterlinck in
his work The Life of the Bee in 1901( Exploring the origins of quotations ). But the position being
taken today is not about who actually truly made this quote but the truths that can be attributed to it.
The warning in which it represents and the fear of its possibility, since it has been noticed that the
Bees are disappearing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another event more recently was reported in Pennsylvania where Keepers reported a 53% loss of their
hives. But what made this event most serious was the loss of 1/3rd of bee hives within the United
States as a whole. This event appeared to have no particular rhyme or reason for this cause and no
singular circumstance could be pointed to as an exact cause of such mass destruction of one species
that is crucial to food production within the United States ( Honey Bees and Colony Collapse Disorder
). Value of the honey bee: The honey bee is vital to an estimated $117 billion annual production of
crops through pollination within the United States more than a half of the food that humans consume
has a correlation with the bee either directly or indirectly. The USDA reports the following food
products would be immediately damaged if no bees were available to pollinate: This information is
only the tip of the iceberg dealing only with crop worth/food but does not mention the incalculable
amount bees have on the ecosystem as a whole ( Vanishing Bees ). Many plants rely heavily on bees
as their main pollinator to reproduce. The main fear is that even though many flowers also rely on
mammals and other insects to assist in the pollination process, bees are the biggest and most vital
source of this life cycle. As the bees disappear the reproduction process of many plants does not
happen as efficiently thus less plants are produced, this

The Outsiders Is A Young Adult Novel Written By. Hinton
The Outsiders is a young adult novel written by S.E. Hinton. The book was first published in 1967 by
The Viking Press. Today, the book is published under Speak, an imprint of Penguin Group. The book
has a total of a hundred and eighty pages. The Outsiders fits in the genre of young adult fiction
because it relates to teens on emotional levels. Like Ponyboy, the teen protagonist of the story, teens
relate to his emotional growth as he tries to piece his life together. The story follows a rivalry in a
socially divided community. The Greasers are a gang of teenage boys who live on the east side of
town; the wrong side of town. Their rivals, the Socials, better known as the Socs; come from the
wealthier side of town. The two groups are always head to head with one another, seeking a fight.
Ponyboy belongs to the Greasers. He is the youngest out of the three brothers in his family. Apart from
his brothers, Ponyboy hangs out with Johnny, Dallas, Two Bit and others who are also Greasers. The
rivalry between the two groups heightens when Johnny kills Bob, a Soc, in an attempt to save
Ponyboy from drowning. In this book report, I will go through the meaning of this book and my
opinion on the story itself. The story is told in first person point of view, in this case it is Ponyboy s
perspective. The state and city are unknown to us be we are definitely sure the story took place
somewhere between the 1960s. The slang terms and the lifestyle give it all away. During the 1950s

Psychodynamic Theory Applied To The Case Of Y Chun
Y Chun is a 35 year old biracial (White and Asian American) female presenting to counseling per
recommendation of her physician. Y Chun has been experiencing headaches, upset stomach, and
difficulties falling and staying asleep. Additionally, Y Chun has noticed that she is generally short
tempered and on edge. The psychodynamic theory of individual psychology, typically referred to as
Adlerian therapy, can be applied to the case of Y Chun in order to understand her presenting concerns
and how these problems may have developed. There are several important concepts of individual
psychology that should be addressed in order to appropriately conceptualize Y Chun s case from an
Adlerian framework. These concepts include family constellation, ... Show more content on

From infancy, Y Chun recognized that she was helpless, and this helplessness was characterized by
feelings of inferiority. Inferiority feelings are considered a normal condition of all people and are
identified as a foundation for human striving. Thus, Y Chun s feelings of inferiority are not treated as a
sign of weakness; rather, these feelings encourage her to strive for superiority. Y Chun has worked to
compensate for her feelings of helplessness by striving for competence and perfection. Y Chun is
currently juggling a number of tasks in which she is attempting to demonstrate her competence, such
as going to school, working, and raising her children, and it is likely that her desire to achieve
superiority is contributing to her current symptomology. It is important to recognize, however, that Y
Chun s yearning for superiority does not necessarily mean she is striving to be superior to others.
Instead, it means that Y Chun has been and will continue to attempt to move from a perceived lower
position to a perceived higher position (Corey, 2009). In sum, feelings of inferiority and a desire for
superiority will guide Y Chun s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings throughout her

What Is The Truth That Scout Learned In To Kill A Mockingbird
One truth Scout learns is that not all people are what they seem. For the entirety of the book, Scout
perceived Arthur Radley as a terrifying murderer. When she finally meets Arthur, she realizes she was
wrong. Scout could not understand Arthur because she had not climbed into his skin and walked
around in it (Lee 39). This truth is exceptionally important because in high school there is the
possibility to make many new friends and enemies. One must know that people are not always what
they seem. You should not be quick to judge because you do not know what is going on in their life.
While reading this novel, I pictured Atticus Finch as a younger version of my grandfather. The
physical description matched him, as well as the personality description. My grandpa has a strong
moral code, is civil, and will stand up for what he believes is right. His priority is always family.
Similar to Atticus, he values reading. Every evening he would read books by himself of to his kids.

How did the feud start, and why did it have such an impact throughout America? First and foremost I
must say with being related to the McCoy family through marriage on my mother s side is both a
thrilling and interesting experience that does come with more history behind it than most can ever
imagine. Though it wasn t until two years ago that I learned about this fact, while I was looking
through old family pictures and was asking different questions about my heritage my mother led to tell
me about my family history which has both negative and positive attributes in it. To learn more about

Johnse of course was not in love with Roseanna and was seeing numerous other women while he was

after the young Roseanna becomes pregnant, her father disowned her due to the shame and

Johnse absolutely loathed to the fact that he might have to marry Roseanna he still lied to her and took
her in to his home for as long as his family would allow Roseanna to live there. The Hatfields were
strongly opposed to a marriage, between Johnse and Roseanna, not because they thought Roseanna
was a horrible person but more along the lines that they didn t want their son hurting her anymore than
he has already and everyone knew Johnse wouldn t change his ways for anything let alone a woman

marriage altogether, therefore Roseanna was sent to live with a distant widowed aunt of her mother s,

Suffering The Pros And Cons Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a program that can perform tasks that a human can do, like speech
recognition, visual perception, language translation. AIs have been a very popular topic in scientists
and engineers. An example of artificial intelligence is Watson, this program can answer questions,
Watson was featured in a jeopardy game along with two former winners, Watson did, in fact, win first
place with one million dollars, but Watson was only given three clues to solve the question, the
program was not connected to the internet. The program quickly outsmarted his opponents, but had
trouble in other categories, meaning that the program beat human intelligence on the post topic.
Artificial Intelligence will become a superintelligence because of the progress rate, unstoppable
singularity, and brain improvement. Although, the rate of progress will eventually lead to an
intelligence explosion, in which this intelligence will surpass human intelligence. This means that the
AI will start off learning like a child, the basic learning, read, math, science. This may seem very
basic, but once the program learns, it can move on, the program will learn much quicker and faster
than the average human can, they can adapt and comprehend things much quicker but once this
program learns so much, space exploration will be easier to do by giving suggestion on creating an
object or machine that can go into space and record data faster and with fewer errors. An article

  • 4. For Colored Girls Cultural Analysis Theodicy in Culture For the paper on Theodicy in Culture I choose to write about the movie For Colored Girls. I picked three specific scenes within the movie that displays pain, suffering and questioning God. The first scene I picked is when a couple was fighting because the wife turned down his engagement and the boyfriend did not take it well because he suffered from bipolar disorder so he would snap at any time, during the scene when the girlfriend said no the man turned to the two things she loved more than life itself which were there children and he killed them by dropping them out the window and he did this because he was upset with the girlfriend for saying no. This movie relates to Theodicy because theodicy questions God because if there is a good people think there should be no evil and that s how she felt, she felt like if there was a good these things wouldn t have happened to her. Temporary suffering was present in this movie because her suffering in pain didn t last forever she knew she would always have an emptiness in her heart but she realized she had to keep pushing and she couldn t keep being down about it she knew her kids were looking down on her and would want to see her happy. • 5. The Energy Information Administration ( 2016 ) In 2015 the United States produced an average of 9.4 million barrels of crude oil a day, a rate of production not seen in over 45 years (EIA, 2015). In 2008 production averaged 5 million barrels a day. This drastic increase in production can be attributable, in part, to advances in hydraulic fracturing. According to the Energy Information Administration (2016) this controversial drilling technology has been in use for over 6 decades, but has otherwise contributed relatively little to total crude oil output. In 2000 23,000 hydraulic fractured wells produced 102,000 barrels of oil a day, or 2% of the total national output. In 2015 there were 300,000 hydraulically fractured wells producing 4.3 million barrels of oil a day, a 4,000% increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A 2008 assessment by the United States Geological Survey (2013) of Bakken shale formation determined that an estimated 3.65 billion barrels of oil were technically recoverable. A subsequent reassessment in 2013 found the formation contained 7.4 billion barrels of undiscovered and technically recoverable oil reserves (USGS, 2013). Nevertheless, many in the shale production industry believe the Bakken formation may contain over 20 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil (SAFE, 2012). What is Hydraulic Fracturing? Certain geological formations may contain deposits of natural gas and petroleum; however, these formations generally have extremely low permeability (Earthworks (EW), 2016). Hydraulic fracturing is process that increases the permeability of these rock formations, making the fossil fuels contained within more extractable (EW, 2016). Although hydraulic fracturing has been in use for over 60 years, only recently has it gained widespread use. Fracking begins by drilling a well and inserting a steel pipe known as a casing. The casing contains perforations within a target zone where there is assumed to be natural gas or oil supplies (EW, 2016). Once the casing is in position fracturing fluid is pumped into the casing, and injected into the well through the perforations at the target zone (EW, 2016). The rock formation absorbs the fluid until it becomes saturated, at which point pressure begins to build in the well, causing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A main reason that was said to cause the Military Revolution, said by the historians, was warfare. Also, power was a major part that had to do with it. The different techniques that were processed in a short period of time were the start of the Military Revolution. As a matter of fact, someone that changed the war tactics in an increasing way was Gustavus Adolphus, which was the king of Sweden. Gustavus army began something called the salvo which was really different from the way they used to fight, which was the infantry fired row by row. The salvo was that the rows would fire all at once, so that caused the opposing squadrons to die in massive amounts. The routine he did was that after shooting the rivals with his pistol volley, they would then jab the enemies with their blades. Also, they started to use lightweight fighting equipment to make it easily possible to move, and started to train more, to start developing better disciplinary actions. Gustavus fighting ... Analysis Of George Orwell s Narrator In Shooting An Elephant Fitting In: Orwell s Narrator in Shooting an Elephant Since the publication of George Orwell s, Shooting an Elephant in 1936 many philosophers have engaged in conversation about humanity, violence, politics, power, dominance, race, culture and principles. Orwell was in fact a genius plain and simple, though in a very complicated way (Firchow 94). George Orwell brings you into his essay with lucid and vivid details the entire way starting from the setting, I remember that it was a cloudy, stuffy morning at the beginning of the rains, (25) to the characters attitudes towards one another, if a European woman went through the bazaars alone somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress (23). The essay starts with the narrator, whom we assume is Orwell, a white man working as a sub divisional police officer in Moulmein, Burma where the British have a colonized. Being English, the narrator Orwell is hated by many of the natives, When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman) looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter (Orwell 23). One morning, Orwell receives a call about an elephant ram sacking the town and even killing a native Burman. Morally permissible looks at what is allowed by people from a moral perspective. This differs in a different place. In the UK, euthanasia, in general, is moral. It can be broken down using Kant s theory by saying, why has the doctor performed non voluntary active euthanasia, or why will the doctor perform non voluntary active euthanasia? . By applying Kant s theory, a doctor performing this duty is doing so morally. A patient ridden with dementia, cannot make medical decisions. The doctor has performed this procedure because of medical obligation. The doctor will perform the procedure because of the condition of the patient. It is permissible morally because the patient himself cannot deny the obligation the doctor should perform the procedure based on the patient s condition. For the sake of the doctor s duty, he or she is obeying moral law based on the virtue of his or her morality. Four major justices, Rehnquist, Stewart, Burger, and Stevens, voted against the minority admission program for all school because it violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The other four justices, Marshall, Brennan, White, and Blackmun, voted that the affirmative action is acceptable within certain areas. However, the plurality opinion was given by Justice Powell. This gave the ruling a 5 4 in favor of Allan Bakke. Powell gave his opinion that the using racial quotas as the deciding factor of one s admission was violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. However, affirmative action is permissible by Universities but only if used alongside with other factors. This meant that Universities had to discontinue their quota system for minorities and that UC Davis violated the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. Under these circumstances Allan Bakke was allowed to attend UC Davis. However, the predominant ideology in most Third World countries is socialism. There are many reasons why Third World countries have turned to socialism as their form of government. The main reason the Third World has taken on the concept of socialism is because of the history of feudalism and colonialism that these countries faced for so many years. Socialism was seen as a way to reform the land of many underdeveloped countries. Socialism believes the government needs to intervene to make sure no feudalism or unjust land ownership systems are being enforced. There are many aspects of socialism that many of the third world countries practice. The first aspect of socialism is the rejection of communism and capitalism. Capitalism reminds them of their hated feudal system and the exploitation that it involved. They also feel that communism lacks incentive because it states that people should work only according to their abilities and will receive what they need from the government. Due to the injustices that these people faced under a similar system, it is obvious that capitalism or communism will not provide any motivation for it s people to work harder. Third World socialism also advocates the idea of natural resources belonging to the nation and it s people and not to the individual whose land they are located on. For instance, if a family owns a home and oil is discovered there, the government will take the oil and distribute it to the nation. This is very important because previously, under feudalism, if a person owned land containing oil, than that person owned the oil. Since the majority of the landowners were the rich British, feudalism helped the rich get richer and kept the poor in poverty. It is easy to see why Third World countries feel it is so important to distribute the wealth more equally. Since many of these Third World countries are rich in natural resources, it makes sense to make sure that nobody can exploit their resources again. Candide says, Have you no monks among you to dispute, to govern, to intrigue, and to burn people who are not the same opinion with themselves (53). The king replies that everyone on El Dorado has the same opinion. Yet, Candide is not a person who forms his own opinion. Pangloss taught his beliefs to Candide. Candide is used to not having the same opinions as others because not many people agreed with Pangloss s views. A world where everyone agrees with one another might seem a little mundane to him. A mundane world would not be a perfect world for Candide. It seems Candide likes the excitement and the drama that a less perfect world would bring him. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many people, there is only one reason to go to an amusement park: the roller coaster. Some people call it the scream machine, with good reason. The history of this ride reflects a constant search for greater and more death defying thrills. How does a roller coaster work? What you may not realize as you re cruising down the track at 60 miles an hour is that the coaster has no engine. The car is pulled to the top of the first hill at the beginning of the ride, but after that the coaster must complete the ride on its own. You aren t being propelled around the track by a motor or pulled by a hitch. The conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy is what drives the roller coaster, and all of the kinetic energy you need for the ride is present once the coaster descends the first hill.. Once you re underway, different types of wheels help keep the ride smooth. Running wheels guide the coaster on the track. Friction wheels control lateral motion (movement to either side of the track). A final set of wheels keeps the coaster on the track even if it s inverted. Compressed air brakes stop the car as the ride ends. Wooden or steel coaster: Does it make a difference? Roller coasters can be wooden or steel, and can be looping or nonlooping. It is a rather simple virus in structure; each contain a single strand RNA strand and 7 different proteins, 3 which are only slightly understood and 4 that are completely unknown. The virus harms the immune system like the HIV virus, but Ebola causes an explosive attack. The virus is associated with the measles and mumps family, pneumonia viruses, parainfluenza viruses which include colds, and respiratory system related viruses. Unlike common viruses which are ball shaped, Ebola s shape represents that similar to a shepherd s crook, a long snake like thread that looks like a worm. Because the Ebola virus has a distinct structure, it has been classified as a thread virus in its own family of viruses, the filoviruses. If everyone knows this saying than why are parents exposing our future to inappropriate and explicit content. This is because most people do not realize the explicit content their children are being exposed to. The shows, movies, and even commercials children are watching effect not only their actions and thought process but can also effect the future decisions and choices they make. From the day we are born to the day we die we have seen many different movies and seen many different TV shows; while we are watching and hearing these through our own eyes and ears we do not truly realize what our brains are consuming, because in reality we are viewing and hearing much more than we can naturally see. Subliminal messages are prearranged thoughts or ideas placed into the subconscious mind. Subliminal messages involve reacting to stimuli that are above your physiological threshold but below your perceptual thresholds. So basically your brain processes the messages without you knowing. The two main types of subliminal messaging are auditory and visual. In these two categories there are also subcategories. Mahatma Gandhi Humanity has always petitioned the idea of impending doom upon Earth and its inhabitants, that our sins will soon spill upon the dried cracking crust and salvation awaits the worthy above with open gates and waterfalls. Despite religious conceptions, humans still walk the material world; searching every crevice of knowledge hoping that one day meaning will be found in our sinful journey through time. Anxiety of what awaits the ending days plunges humans deeper into fear and doubt, giving W. H. Auden a needles amount of material for his sardonic masterpiece on the human function, The Age of Anxiety. Auden truly encapsulates diversity in his writing, always transitioning from prose to verse and from thought to speech. Auden begins part three of The Age of Anxiety in prose with At first all is dark and each walks alone. What they share is only the feelings of remoteness and desertion, of having marched for miles and miles, of having lost their bearings, of a restless urge to find water , then beginning the dialogue in verse with Groping through fog, I begin to hear A salt lake lapping: Dotterels and dunlins on its dark shore . • 31. Compare Utopia And A Man For All Seasons In Utopia and A Man for All Seasons, written by Thomas More, More analyses politics through different perspective. More travels to Antwerp as an ambassador for England and King Henry the VIII. Here More is introduced to Raphael Hythloday, a veteran traveler. Hythloday has a great depth of knowledge and understanding of governments of many nations and in the book it recounts their conversations.Utopia gives readers insight in the the ways politics are influenced and through More s and Raphael s experience one can notice the different ways persuasion is used with in politics. Raphael s story about theft and punishment can be used to note how to persuade advisors to the Kings, and More s ideas between civilized and academic advice can be used to persuade the King. In A Man for All Seasons, More is faced with the decision to save his life or protect his integrity. Raphael s and More discuss the effects of why the punishment for thievery is unnecessary and ultimately ineffective when it comes to solving the problem. This conversation depicts a perfect way in which advisors can be persuaded to a contrasting idea, because Morton, head advisor to the King, doesn t believe in the new way Raphael thinks thievery should be punished but then is convinced by parts of Raphael s ideas. More brings up the idea that the most effective way to influence public affairs is to gain the confidence of some great king and give him advice (20). Raphael s disagrees, Kings are more interested in the science of war than in useful peacetime techniques (20). Though Raphael doesn t believe going directly to the king to advise, he also sees many problems with the councillors. Advisors are either too wise to need, or too conceited to take advice from anyone else (20). Raphael brings up that he has even seen this in England, which transitions their conversion into the punishment for thievery. Raphael believes that the death penalty is too severe, and as a deterrent it s quite ineffective (22). Most steal when they are desperate and no penalty on earth will stop people, and it would be more effective to provide everyone with some means of livelihood so that they wouldn t steal in the first place (22). Cherise Luter (2014) states that despite afros and the natural hair movement not being a new concept (i.e. the Black Power Movement), it has gone under what she calls a refreshing change . Furthermore, what used to be I m black and I m proud , has been replaced with I m me and I m proud (Luter 2016). So, what is the natural hair movement? It is defined as a movement where black women decide to not conform to the social norms of chemically altering their hair and wearing it in its natural, kinky, or curled state (Joignot 2015). The movement could also be considered as an outlet for black women to display their racial and cultural pride or to articulate their political position (Brown 2014:297). Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents ( School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued) Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools... Only the gold and silver flowed now, not from the coffers of the king, but from the purses of men who had made, say a fortune from industry, and returned, in their wills, a bounteous share of it to endow more chairs, more lectureships, more fellowships in the university where they had learnt their craft (754). This is a quote from Virginia s Woolf s essay, A Room of One s Own . Here she is making a point about universities and the funding that they received from men that had gone to school there. Woolf s essay takes place during the early nineteen hundreds when most women did not attend a university. There was great inequality of those who attended school because men had control over all the money. The men in society either received ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once he gets out on his journey he realizes it is way colder outside than what he thought. He starts to become very cold and builds a fire to keep warm, but must keep on the journey and hopefully so he doesn t die. When I was, little I didn t listen to my parents that I should put gloves on when it was 2 degrees outside and so, consequently I acquired a small case of frostbite and it hurts and itches horribly. In the story the man has to stay focused on the trail or he will die. Some of the minor side effects of frostbite are numbness of the area, tingling, blood filled blisters, skin turns different colors and so on. If you were walking in a foot or more of snow you would not want to have these side effects as a distraction. These side effects are just some of the beginning side effects of being in cold temperatures. I m guessing this wasn t in the 21st century due to he didn t have something to his destination him there like a dog sled team or a snowmobile. Back then they didn t make as warm clothes as they do now so if someone did the long hike in the snow with modern clothes they would get moderately cold. The person with the modern clothes may not get as cold as the other guy but will eventually get cold. These are just some of many reasons why I believe this man had the hardest ... • 45. The Disappearance of the Bees Essay The Disappearance of the Bees If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man. The quote above is often attributed to Albert Einstein but was actually believed to have been said by this brilliant man is not true. It was originally written down by Maurice Maeterlinck in his work The Life of the Bee in 1901( Exploring the origins of quotations ). But the position being taken today is not about who actually truly made this quote but the truths that can be attributed to it. The warning in which it represents and the fear of its possibility, since it has been noticed that the Bees are disappearing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another event more recently was reported in Pennsylvania where Keepers reported a 53% loss of their hives. But what made this event most serious was the loss of 1/3rd of bee hives within the United States as a whole. This event appeared to have no particular rhyme or reason for this cause and no singular circumstance could be pointed to as an exact cause of such mass destruction of one species that is crucial to food production within the United States ( Honey Bees and Colony Collapse Disorder ). Value of the honey bee: The honey bee is vital to an estimated $117 billion annual production of crops through pollination within the United States more than a half of the food that humans consume has a correlation with the bee either directly or indirectly. The USDA reports the following food products would be immediately damaged if no bees were available to pollinate: This information is only the tip of the iceberg dealing only with crop worth/food but does not mention the incalculable amount bees have on the ecosystem as a whole ( Vanishing Bees ). Many plants rely heavily on bees as their main pollinator to reproduce. The main fear is that even though many flowers also rely on mammals and other insects to assist in the pollination process, bees are the biggest and most vital source of this life cycle. As the bees disappear the reproduction process of many plants does not happen as efficiently thus less plants are produced, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Outsiders Is A Young Adult Novel Written By. Hinton The Outsiders is a young adult novel written by S.E. Hinton. The book was first published in 1967 by The Viking Press. Today, the book is published under Speak, an imprint of Penguin Group. The book has a total of a hundred and eighty pages. The Outsiders fits in the genre of young adult fiction because it relates to teens on emotional levels. Like Ponyboy, the teen protagonist of the story, teens relate to his emotional growth as he tries to piece his life together. The story follows a rivalry in a socially divided community. The Greasers are a gang of teenage boys who live on the east side of town; the wrong side of town. Their rivals, the Socials, better known as the Socs; come from the wealthier side of town. The two groups are always head to head with one another, seeking a fight. Ponyboy belongs to the Greasers. He is the youngest out of the three brothers in his family. Apart from his brothers, Ponyboy hangs out with Johnny, Dallas, Two Bit and others who are also Greasers. The rivalry between the two groups heightens when Johnny kills Bob, a Soc, in an attempt to save Ponyboy from drowning. In this book report, I will go through the meaning of this book and my opinion on the story itself. The story is told in first person point of view, in this case it is Ponyboy s perspective. The state and city are unknown to us be we are definitely sure the story took place somewhere between the 1960s. The slang terms and the lifestyle give it all away. During the 1950s ... From infancy, Y Chun recognized that she was helpless, and this helplessness was characterized by feelings of inferiority. Inferiority feelings are considered a normal condition of all people and are identified as a foundation for human striving. Thus, Y Chun s feelings of inferiority are not treated as a sign of weakness; rather, these feelings encourage her to strive for superiority. Y Chun has worked to compensate for her feelings of helplessness by striving for competence and perfection. Y Chun is currently juggling a number of tasks in which she is attempting to demonstrate her competence, such as going to school, working, and raising her children, and it is likely that her desire to achieve superiority is contributing to her current symptomology. It is important to recognize, however, that Y Chun s yearning for superiority does not necessarily mean she is striving to be superior to others. Instead, it means that Y Chun has been and will continue to attempt to move from a perceived lower position to a perceived higher position (Corey, 2009). In sum, feelings of inferiority and a desire for superiority will guide Y Chun s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings throughout her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the entirety of the book, Scout perceived Arthur Radley as a terrifying murderer. When she finally meets Arthur, she realizes she was wrong. Scout could not understand Arthur because she had not climbed into his skin and walked around in it (Lee 39). This truth is exceptionally important because in high school there is the possibility to make many new friends and enemies. One must know that people are not always what they seem. You should not be quick to judge because you do not know what is going on in their life. While reading this novel, I pictured Atticus Finch as a younger version of my grandfather. The physical description matched him, as well as the personality description. My grandpa has a strong moral code, is civil, and will stand up for what he believes is right.
