Lobster Research Paper
The objective of this project was to cook, and serve lobster utilizing a method, which was given, to prepare
the lobster as well as a recipe for the lobster. In addition to this we also needed to create rice pilaf, asparagus,
and a vinaigrette salad using the various ingredients provided to us. This project is supposed to give us our
first glimpse into implementing our newly found skills from Culinary class into our cooking lifestyle at home.
To begin, I par boiled my lobster on high for the allotted amount of time before removing them from the heat,
and then shocking them in ice cold water. Following this step, I put them in the refrigerator in order for me to
make them the following day. The next day I began by removing the lobster meat ... Show more content on

The comment cards were basically designed with a few question that I was curious about, as well as an area
for the recipients own comments on the meal. On my comment cards I include two questions for my
participants to answer using a rating system of 0 5, 0 being worst and 5 being the best. The first question was,
on a scale from 0 5, how would you rate the overall taste of this meal. To this question my mother answered
by bubbling in the number 4. In response to the same question my step father responded by bubbling in the
number 3. The second question I asked about the meal was, on a scale from 0 5, how well do you believe the
components of this meal were put together. To that question my mother answered by bubbling in the number

included a portion for comments about the meal from my participants. In this section my mother said that the
meal in general was, quite delicious and well put together. The presentation was delightful. My step father said
that the meal was, Filling, appetizing, and the meal itself was really delicious , and also stated he only gave
me a 4 because he did not want to be biased and give me a 5, which I

Dante s Accomplishments
Dante Alighieri was an italian poet and philosopher who is known worldwide for his masterpiece, The Divine
Comedy, which details Dante s journey through purgatory, hell, and paradise or heaven. The Comedy
represents the christian idea of fate, and the soul s journey towards god, and is widely considered the greatest
piece of literature ever composed in the italian language. He wrote several other great works, including
Convivio (The Banquet), La Vita Nuova (The New Life), and De Vulgari Eloquentia (on the eloquence of
vernacular). He is widely considered the father of the italian language, and many have likened Dante s literary
achievements to those of Shakespeare. He was born in Florence in the year 1265 sometime between May 21
and June 20.

The Adoption Of Autonomous Vehicles
2.1 Introduction
There are roughly 250 million registered motor vehicles in the United States (Blanco, 2010). This corresponds
to almost one vehicle for every citizen. According to the Federal
Highway Administration, the average American driver drives almost 40 miles every day (FHA, 2011). Given
how heavily vehicles are used today, especially in the United States, their replacement with autonomous
vehicles could easily have far reaching implications.
The adoption of autonomous vehicles into society could affect a multitude of issues.
Among these issues are safety, cost, productivity, legality, public opinion, and the environment. Each will be
touched upon in this section. It is important to have a general knowledge of these areas in order to better
understand the speed at which autonomous vehicles might be adopted.
We ve chosen these areas specifically because we expect them to be the biggest factors in the adoption of
autonomous vehicles. However, it s important to keep in mind that some of the technologies that will be
discussed are still being developed. Therefore the implications that are dependent on technologies still being
developed can be considered somewhat speculative.
2.2 Safety
One of the major incentives for developing autonomous vehicles is the potential impact on vehicle safety. In
2009, there were 10.8 million motor vehicle accidents in the US, resulting in 35,900 deaths (Census 2012). It s
estimated that over 90% of all accidents are due to

Literary Analysis Of Dulce Et Decorum Est
In early history, Soldiers going off to fight in war seemed brave and fearless. It was always seen as an honor to
serve in your country s army. However, in Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, through the depictions of
an actual battle, it is shown that those feelings are not actually present during war. The genre of the poem is
war. In fact is very much propaganda against war. After the events of World War 1, Owen did not see the
necessity of war in witnessing all the suffering it caused. The very title of the poem Dulce et Decorum est can
be translated as , It is sweet and proper to die for the fatherland. It is now commonly referred to as the old lie
because the saying is very old and commonly used but can not really be seen as true. Though the title is titled
as such, the meaning of the poem actually argues against the phrase. In the poem, there is nothing fearless or
glorious about the soldiers in the war. All of the language that was in the poem has a very negative
connotation. The words used like, beggars , lame , blind , deaf , clumsy, helpless ,and more show that the men
are very discombobulated and are in fact suffering. There is a lot of death and chaos occurring. The phrase is
referred to as the old lie because how can one see the horrors of war and still tell people and young children
that it is honorable and glorious to fight and die for one s country. At first glance. one would assume that
Owen utilizes Iambic Pentameter in his poem. However, there is no

New Forest Background
Few people realise the important role that the New Forest played in World War II. Its strategic location on the
south coast meant that the New Forest was crucial in a range of operations and is home to a wide range of
World War II installation. Whilst some of these are still visible today, many have been hidden by soil and
vegetation or lost during land management activities. There where many aspects off the war that happened in
the new forest, there main operations the the new forest played a big part in was the fact they had many
airfields, along with airfields they played a part in the D day landings and the new forest is home to a bombing
range. Stoney Cross airfield was one of the larger wartime airfields within the New Forest, and was active
between the years 1943 to 1946, with post war activities continuing until its closure in 48. From 1944
onwards, Stoney Cross changed role from being a major fighter and bomber base to playing host to Transport
Command, and saw many troops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It played an important role in the war and was a major base for Spitfire and Typhoon fighters. Away from the
airfield site on a tree covered hill the remains of Battle Headquarters can still be found, a stark reminder of the
area s wartime history. All of the airfields wee used by the UK royal air force and USA air forces. At Ibsley it
was home to typhoons and spitfires, Beaulieu mainly hosted bomber and fighter planes and Stoney Cross dealt
with aircraft carries and squadrons. Despite having many airfields, the new forest was home to many decoy
sites, these proved very useful especially at night time a when the Germans tried to bomb the airfields, they
made the decoy sites very bright this drew the bombers attention to these sites so they dropped there bombs on
plain fields instead of on planes and citizens. These decoys sites are at Denney Lodge and

UNIT 1 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT MGT 485 0903B 03 GLOBAL STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT ALFRED
SIU AUGUST 30, 2009 BY: TINA RAULERSON The most concerning threat USPS faces is the rise in
operating expenses, particularly the increase in energy prices and health insurance premiums. Energy prices
are at all time highs. With USPS dependency in both, air and ground transportation, energy prices will play a
major role in the company s budget. USPS is part of the Federal Employee Health Benefit program and
premiums for these benefits have steadily increased over the last couple of years. For example, premiums
increased in 2003 by 11.1%. Health benefit payments increased 14% in 2003 from 2002, and by 15.8% in
2004 from 2003 levels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long Term Action Plan USPS should gradually replace their aging delivery vehicles with hybrid or electric
vehicles to reduce delivery costs and dependency on gas. A hybrid vehicle not only saves the Postal Service 32
40% on fuel costs (roughly $1200/car/year based on 30k miles), depending on the vehicle, but USPS would
also receive a $3,000 tax incentive on every vehicle. In cities, electric vehicles or SMART cars could be used
since delivery routes are shorter with frequent stops. Aside from being fuel efficient, they adhere to the ever
stricter emissions rules. With well over 200,000 postal vehicles currently in the system, savings would
approach the $1billion mark. Since USPS has monopoly in Standard Mail, prices in this sector should be
raised while prices in the package delivery sector should be lowered, albeit marginally, in order to attract
higher market share. A raise in first class postage of a little over 8% to $.40 is presently being reviewed.
Higher revenues would result from the newly raised prices in the monopolized Standard Mail market, while
higher volume sales from the package delivery segment would boost revenues. USPS should first appeal to the
US government to leave the Federal Employee Health Benefit program. Then, USPS should research other
health plans that are more cost efficient, whether it be a new carrier in the private sector, a change in benefits
coverage or alter the level of an employees contribution to

Gerry first discovered the zombies when his family was stuck in a very unusual traffic jam. Eventually when
they were not moving for a long period of time Gerry stepped out of his car to see what the hold up was.
Unfortunately, he was unaware of the situation as well as cars near him. Seconds later the whole city began to
run, and scream in fear of crazed people attacking and infecting innocent humans. Due to the fact of everyone
running in fear, Gerry struggles to get back to his family due to his curiosity of the situation. Once he returned
to the car, nearly every radio station was warning everyone to take cover due to the zombie outbreak: I
thought I was ready for anything. He looks out at the valley, his eyes unfocused. Who in his right mind could
have been ready for this? (Brooks 79). After Gerry and his family heard the news they immediately knew then
needed to find a safe place to stay. Later that day the family gets invited to a military bunker to live at until the
virus is cured. The family gets invited into the bunker due to Gerry recently joining forces with the military.
Gerry s family is only allowed to stay as long as Gerry agrees to help and fight the zombies. Although Gerry
does not want to leave his family, he still agrees to leave them and fight for their safety. Gerry then leaves his

Selfish Theme Analysis in Bartleby by Herman Melville Essay
Is the narrator of Bartleby a selfish or an unselfish man? Defend your answer with evidence from the story.
The narrator of Bartleby is not a selfish man. Instead, he was the type of man who tried to do everything for
someone who was in need. He tried his best to be there for one of his workers when he knew he was not well.
Bartleby was a man who was a great worker. He was a man who knew what he was doing and what needed to
be done from him. He was extremely caught up with his work, as he had nothing else to do and no one to be

lay upon my desk. I opened it with trembling hands. It informed me that the writer had sent to the police, and
had Bartleby remove to the Tombs as a vagrant. (Herman Melville, page 329). everyone knew that the narrator
knew more about Bartleby then they did. They wanted the narrator to be able and do something about

Return on Investment for Media Carts As mentioned in this report, the return on investment is not immediate
but there are long term advantages to using the Media Cart. The advertising and suggestions made to the
consumer can cater to reducing excess inventory before spoilage occurs, improving the effectiveness of sales,
and introduce consumers to brands which may interest him or her; these directives can increase sales and
decrease loss. The on board navigation system will help customers to find the products they are seeking; this
allows the customer to find products without taking time from the customer service employees. Use of the
navigation system also allows customer to find what products they are looking for; if they find the product at
Kudler they are less likely to go to another store and give the sale to a competitor. Long term, the cart also can
be part of an expedited check out system that decreases congestion during the check out process (Media Cart,
2010). Consumers scan items as they put them into their carts and directly into bags. At the end of their
shopping experience, they move the cart onto the scale to check for accuracy and for additional items, before
they pay and leave; this process could save money by reducing customer service personnel. The customer
saves time through the use of the built in navigation system, the system directs the customer through the store

Analysis Of Bon Voyage
Visual/Object Analysis Project One Greg Olson s Bon Voyage is a framed print painting. It measures 13.50 x
11.88 . This image was submitted to Fine Art America in 2012. I find Olson created a quite busy, yet intricate
image that evokes many different thoughts and feelings as to its meaning. One can make a connection with
God, others can say the image represents the expansive imagination of children. Less than a quarter of a bed
finds itself sitting in the right section of the frame. The blankets were blue with hints of purple. A singular
white pillow lays against the wooden bedframe. Above the bed rests a variety of purple and blue shades
blended inside a golden picture frame. The walls containing the room are the same mix of blue but with the
lightest part of the image being the middle, with it getting subtly darker as the viewers eyes stray left or right
from the center. Just to the left of the bed, a young boy, perhaps six years of age, holding open a sturdy
wooden chest for a large array of animals. The image looks to be representing post 2000. The boy was a pale
skin tone with rosy cheeks and blond hair. He wore a loose, long sleeve red pajama shirt, accompanied by red
pajama pants. He wore a heavier blue robe over his shirt. The robe consisted of two vertical white lines tracing
the opening of the robe in the front from top to bottom. There were also horizontal white lines reaching across
of the form of the body. The boy held a blue umbrella with a blue handle and

Father Paneloux and The Plague
As a Christian speaking to the people of Oran, it would be very difficult to say anything to a people facing
such terrible affliction. Even though Father Paneloux believed what he was preaching, I believe he was
completely wrong. This would make what I would say much different from what Father Paneloux said.
However, some strong points did emerge from his sermons. Overall, the two sermons in Albert Camus The
Plague fail to help people become more faithful and fail to even preach to the people of Oran the truth.
Father Paneloux makes statements in his first sermon that condemn the people of Oran for their wicked
behavior. Camus description of the sermon makes clear that Father Paneloux is a strong speaker. He describes
him as using a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though God may be allowing it to happen, He is not the one causing the affliction. Once again, God will
not cause suffering until the time of tribulation. Proof of this can be found in the book of Job where God calls
Satan and has him afflict Job with nearly every affliction possible. Clearly, just like his first sermon, Father
Paneloux s second sermon displays his terrible understanding of the nature and actions of God and causes
even more people to turn away from God.
If I were to talk to the people of Oran, I would first try to make clear why many of Father Paneloux s ideas are
incorrect without being mean to him. I would definitely detail how this affliction is not a result of God s wrath
and tell the people why this kind of thinking is completely wrong. I would do this by ensuring the people that
God does not cause suffering in this current age and that he even wants to help everyone through the affliction
they are currently experiencing. It would be very difficult to drive out the false doctrine that Father Paneloux
has taught to the people of Oran, but that would have to be my first priority. Otherwise, the rest of my sermon
about God s love would not make any sense to a crowd that still believes God is responsible for the suffering
currently present in Oran.
My other priority if I were to give a sermon to the people of Oran would be to focus on God s love in the

Whiteness And Racism
In the past, and even today, the whites in United States had constructed the issue of racism and has directed it
towards certain ethnic groups throughout history to show superiority. This is referred to as Whiteness , which
is a socially constructed reality; This means one s skin color shapes a person s view and lifestyle and is not
inherent in an individual but determined by society. The term whiteness does not necessarily hint at one s skin
color or heritage but rather is a social position within society. The ideology states that different ethnic groups
within the United States must reach whiteness in order to gain a social advantage to benefit themselves. This
can result in certain groups to essentially abandon their culture as well as the others who associate themselves
with the said ethnic culture. This grants ethnic groups to obtain a small amount of whiteness but are not
completely seen as white until the race as a whole is accepted and seen as something that is considered white
culture.
Whiteness has been the reason for affecting national identity within the United States, primarily because of the
development of racism and how it has been directed towards specific groups. These groups, unlike others,
have failed and continue to fail at attaining a high social position, due to the fact that some of the first groups
were racially incorporated in society and were seen as a threat to those who held a white , or the highest, status
in society compared to other

How Does Napoleon Use Power In Animal Farm
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world (Mandela). Napoleon realizes
this truth and takes full advantage of it early on in the story. In George Orwell s allegorical novel Animal
Farm, Napoleon seizes control of the now independent farm. He allows the pigs to be educated and excludes
the others. However, he personally educates some puppies, foreseeing them as a powerful weapon to gain full
authority over the animals and to reduce distrust that could lead to revolt. As he continues to rule, he acquires
more power and he uses it to violate and change laws so that they best benefit him and his reign. Napoleon s
main focus in ruling Animal Farm is to lead the animals away from Animalism, and the animals lack ... Show

Fortunately for him, he already wields the power of education, enabling him to rise almost effortlessly to
power; With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume leadership (pg. 21). This is a
subtle infraction of the principles clearly stated in the commandments of Animalism. Equality is supposed to
apply to everyone and every situation, but the animals are accustomed to having a leader, therefore, it is
second nature for them to rely on a person higher than them. Sadly for the majority of the naïve animals, the
pigs ascend to power simply because the weapon of education is pointing at them and they are found
weaponless and unable to defend themselves. Animalism is turned into an oligarchy, rule by the elite, in this
case the pigs are the elite because they are more educated than the animals. Napoleon not only wants power
over the lowly farm animals, but he seeks absolute control over the entire farm, including the remaining pigs.
To do this, he again takes advantage of the power that lies in education; He said that the education of the
young was more important than anything that could be done for those who were already grown up (pg. 26). To
be a leader, it is vital for

Bacon s Rebellion and Challenge
Bacon s Rebellion and Challenge: Bacon s rebellion is a civil war that erupted between the English and the
Indians in the Chesapeake whose main cause was land and labor. Since the English men were facing hunger,
they decided to go out in search of greener pastures that included the search for new lands to do farming and
later change it to cash. The farming itself involved looking a place that they would plant tobacco and as they
were in this process, they came along some Indian communities who were already residing at their (English)
border. That is when the conflict began whereby the Indian communities were beaten up and forced to flee
from the area. This not only affected the Indians but also former servants who had worked with the
colonialists and were part and parcel of the colonists as they ended up being landless. During this war, Bacon
refused to send any troop that would assist in stopping the conflict leading to loss of lives and discrimination
by the Indians. The Southerners were not needed by the government and even those who held top positions
were ordered to be killed, removed forcefully from their positions, and sold into slavery. Since these
individuals were under Bacon s power, they had no choice than to comply with the order. This war led to loss
of properties and houses hence the Southerners became displaced and they even lost children due to the bad
weather and sleeping in the cold. In the process of all these Berkeley called for an election to be

Privacy And Its Effect On Society
Everyone is entitled to a certain level of privacy in regards to their personal information. However, there is the
constant increase and enhancement in technology and the growing value of information for use in decision

fame. He is famous for buying Manhattan for 60 guilders. He is also known for setting up two colonies, and
for setting up excellent fur trade. He lived from about 1580 to 1638. Peter Minuit was born in Wesel,
Germany, sometime around 1580. He was the son of Walloonian immigrants who were expatriated by the
Spanish. Almost nothing else is known about his child hood except he moved to the Netherlands as a young
man. His father died in 1609 at which point he took over his father s business. On august 13, 1613, he was
married to Gertrude Raedts, who came from a wealthy family. By the late, 1610 s Minuit had established
himself as a broker in trade goods. The exact goods he traded are unknown, but his will suggests that
diamonds at least make up a part of them. Peter Minuit joined the Dutch west India Company upon its

Hayden Symphony 94 Analysis
The piece that I have decide to use is the Hayden Symphony 94. I will be using all four movements to identify
which criteria has been met by this piece. The Haydn Symphony 94 follows a form that works for it with each
of the four movements have an expressive section then a rhythmic section. Also, during the second movement
which is a theme and variation he repeated both themes but the second time he would use a drastic dynamic
change. (Criterion #1) Within movement 2 Haydn uses dynamic contrast frequently. The first 15 measures of
the piece are a succession of soft melodies then in the 16th measure Haydn places a loud note to grab the
attention of the audience then he returns to his quiets melodies. Haydn also wrote solos for the oboist and
flautist, and concluding with a sweeping and lyrical forte repeat in triplets (Symphony no. ... Show more

(Criterion #2) Movement 2 shows that Haydn use the different instruments families to add different colors to
each section of the piece. He starts this movement with the strings having the main theme then adding the
woodwinds to the main theme and to the accompanying parts. At certain parts of the movement he has all
instruments playing some form of the main theme. We can also here that the main theme has moved from the
high voices to the low voices throughout the movement. By the end of the movement the we have the
woodwinds completely taking over the melody while the stings are playing the accompanying parts. (Criterion
#3) Within the second movement of the symphony there is this one loud note or chord among a group of soft
chords. Once the audience has heard this once or twice they come to predict the note because the previous
nots grabbed our attention. (Criterion #4) The expressive introduction section of movement 1 is followed by
the very rhythmic section. This shows that the music is not obvious and direct but it does set up the following
movements form wise. (Criterion

Summary Of Be Cool To The Pizza Dude
In the article Be Cool To The Pizza Dude by Sarah Adams it s not actually about a pizza man. Overall the
article talks about the 4 principles to treat the pizza man. During the whole article it references a pizza man, it
is a symbol not a real pizza man. Principle one was about giving him the benefit of the doubt on the road. By
letting it go if they don t signal before changing lanes, letting them exit before, or even letting them in when
they are trying to change lanes. Principle two was about the practice in empathy to the less fortunate. It talked
about how people will take a job just so that was not their idea, or that is beneath them that they have higher
standards. To think that maybe these people that are delivering the pizza this

To consider what enterprise architecture means, it is important to understand its origin. All architecture within
information technology can track its ancestry back to the lessons learned from building architecture.
Enterprise Architecture is the description and visualization of the structure, a blueprint if you will, of a given
area of contemplation, its elements and their collaborations and interrelations links vision, strategy and
feasibility, focusing on usability durability and effectiveness. Architecture enables construction, defining
principles, rules, standards and guidelines, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More advantages of having an enterprise architecture include improved decision making, improved
adaptability to changing demands or market conditions, elimination of inefficient and redundant processes,
optimization of the use of organizational assets, and minimization of employee turnover (Rouse, 2015). The
cost savings, business improvement, new customer segments and major new competitive strategies can bring
significant return on investment (ROI) utilizing the enterprise architecture program. The strategic planning
process which converts a business vision and strategy into an effective enterprise change is the goal of
enterprise architecture program (McGovern, Ambler, Stevens, Linn, 2004).
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Customer centric, Service Oriented, State of the art, Secure,
Intelligent (CSI) systems redesign project would benefit from the application and use of an enterprise
architecture program. The enterprise architecture team will work with many stakeholders within the DMV
organization to outline the goals of the organization in terms of requirements, values, and ideal solutions that
will help reach their objectives. The blueprinted solution needs to be customer focused and service oriented
while addressing all of the DMV CSI redesign properties which includes system security, and state of the art
methods to support the new processes. Some more applicable benefits of having an Enterprise

Supply Chain of Blood and Products in a Blood Bank
The objective of this case study is
1. To study the existing supply chain of blood and blood products in a regional blood bank
2. To identify cost and risk related problems in the supply chain of blood and blood products and to develop a
solution for cost and risk minimization.
BACKGROUND
Human blood is not an ordinary commodity because it cannot be substituted and its need will always exist.
Blood and blood products are also perishable, which complicates things even further. Shortages lead to high
costs for society and outdates on the other hand are not commonly accepted either, since blood donors are a
scarce asset of society and donors must respect a certain time period between two donations, depending on the
type of donation.
Blood Bank services are a key component of the healthcare system all over the world and a well organised
Blood Transfusion Service is a vital component of any health care delivery system and yet the study and the
analysis of such systems from a supply chain perspective have been a few especially in India. The National
Blood Policy of India aims to ensure easily accessible and adequate supply of safe and quality blood and
blood components, which is free from transfusion transmitted infections, and is stored and transported under
optimum conditions.
This case study examines the supply chain of a specific type of perishable product i.e. Human Blood and
Blood Product in a Regional Blood Bank, from the point of collection as a whole blood to the point

Persuasive Essay On Heroin
In 2002, 404,000 people used heroin in the United States. By 2016, there were 948,000 people. This is a 135%
increases in the past 14 years (Kounang). I decided to research about heroin, because I want to know what
heroin is and which celebrities have done it and survived or died. I knew it was an addictive drug that many
people overdose on. There was a lot of misconceptions that I had about heroin. Originally I thought heroin
users become addicted instantly. I still have some questions about heroin. Why is heroin so popular? Who has
done it? Even though some people think heroin is not bad, people should not take heroin because it s a highly
effective drug and tons of people are dying from overdosing.
Heroin is a white or brown powder. Sometimes it s a black paste that s known as black tar heroin. Heroin is
wicked by many other drugs, sugar, flour and milk. It may have a vinegar smell to it. People who do heroin
usually snort or smoke it. There is also an option to inject the drug into your body. It costs $70 to $300 a gram.
In the brain, heroin is converted into morphine, which binds to opioid receptors. This causes a pleasurable
rush, and a user s skin becomes warm and flushed. The user s arms and legs may feel heavy. Some users
experience severe itching and vomiting. After the rush, a user s heart rate and breathing slow down,
sometimes to the point of death. Heroin is considered highly addictive. Euphoria occurs within seconds of an

College Tuition Benefit Analysis
Imagine somebody having just graduated from high school, and they are trying to get into a college, but they
don t have to much say as to which college they go to because many students cannot afford to go to a nice
college let alone a cheap college. For some people it s harder to imagine, but for others that is the life that they
are living right now. According to the College Board of Education tuition has increased by 8.6% since 2012,
meanwhile average household incomes have only increased by 2.23%. The following tuition increase trend is
becoming a serious threat to American society, and must be slowed down. At this rate families will soon have
no hope of ever paying for college debt. Many people want to blame the government to contributing greatly to
the recent increase in tuition by saying there used to be a plethora of public funding opportunities for colleges,
but that they were then all slashed. This is not even close to the reality of the situation. While people did use to

and it has increased to almost 48.6% of freshman who receive these discounts (Redd, Upper Limits). This
leads to even more struggle for colleges to meet demands. Small and mid size colleges are having the most

Rene Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy
In Rene Descartes, Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes does and experiment with wax to try to prove
that things actually exist in this world. This essay is going to prove how we can tell that things actually exist
and what can perceive the wax. Rene Descartes starts off with a description of the wax so he can prove to us
the changes that will happen throughout his experiment.
Let us take, for instance, this piece of wax. It has been taken quite recently from the honeycomb; it has not yet
lost all the honey flavor. It retains some of the scent of the flowers from which it was collected. Its color,
shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If you rap on it with your ... Show more

He then tells us his final perspective on how he perceives the wax. It remains then for me to concede that I do
not grasp what this wax is through the imagination; rather, I perceive it through the mind alone. (Descartes,
22) He ends his argument on how he perceives the wax with telling us that it is not our imagination that grasps
all of the perceptions of the wax, but the mind that does it. Rene Descartes just proved to us that our
imagination is not able to grasp all of the perceptions of the wax but the mind is. After proving that theory he
suddenly starts to doubt his proof. But meanwhile I marvel at how prone my mind is to errors. (Descartes, 22)
He states that his mind is prone to making errors. For example; For we say we see the wax itself, if it is
present, and not that we judge it to be present from its color or shape. (Descartes, 22) He thinks a mistake our
minds make is when we judge that it is wax by just looking at it and not paying any attention to any of the
forms. For this reason he is claiming that he still is not sure that the mind can actually perceive the wax due to
it making mistakes. Back to what Rene Descartes said earlier about the imagination not being able to grasp all
of what we need to perceive about the wax. He told us the imagination was unable to grasp it all but now

Anarchies, States, and Utopias. Gale Power Search. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Apr. 2016.
The author of Anarchies, States, and Utopias compares the similarities and differences between anarchies and
utopias. Anarchies and utopias are similar in the way that they are both unrealistic. Anarchy refers to the state
of no government and everyone has absolute freedom of will. Utopias are unrealistic because no place exists.
Anarchies are different from utopias since anarchies resemble dystopias. Utopian fiction has always had a bad
reputation for being unrealistic and dangerous even though authors should have received the recognition they
deserve. Utopias are not given much attention due to the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There types are social, political, economical, ecological, religious, and scientific. Social utopias followed the
theory of social harmony. Social harmony is a theory of a perfect world. As the name implies, ecological
utopias are places where its inhabitants care about the environment. This type of utopia arose during the Green
Revolution and other green political movements. The rise in poverty and the increasingly growing income gap
between the rich and poor stimulated the idea of the economical utopia. Religious utopias are divided into two
concepts: inter religious and Era of Peace. Inter religious refers to the idea that science is the basis of life.
Superstition is null and void. On the other hand, the Era of Peace is the simple idea where all religions merge
to form one utopian and universal religion. These types are the ideal political and social infrastructures.
However, these types are very unrealistic due to the current issues happening around the world. This

). The amount of nutrient runoff is measured by measuring the number of dead zones , and zones which are
said to be eutrophied (Rabalais, 1528 HYPERLINK http://icesjms.oxfordjournals.org/content/66/7/1528.full ).
There are an estimated 169 dead zones and 415 coastal areas that suffer from eutrophication (Steiner, 25).
Several indicators of resilience are measurable. Biodiversity and indicators like thermal tolerance, dispersal
ability and adaptive capacity of a species indicate resilience and are measured in many different regions
(Bernhardt, 379). The productivity of an ecosystem is measured by measuring the primary productivity which
is monitored globally by using satellite ocean colour sensors and measuring the dissolved oxygen content of
water (Bernhardt, 381). There are several indicators of how sustainable the level of fishing is. The percentage
of mature fish indicates whether the rate of fishing is unsustainable. If the percentage of mature fish is low,
there is a large proportion of fish that are unable to mature, indicating overfishing (Froese, 87). This measure
is widely monitored in many coastal regions with large fishing industries. The amount of illegal, unreported
and unregulated fishing is measured globally and is known to be approximately 20% of the world s fish trade.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Consider The Lobster By David...
In his essay Consider the Lobster, it s apparent what David Foster Wallace is trying to tell his audience: we
should really think about the lobster s point of view before cooking and eating it. Wallace uses multiple
rhetorical strategies to get his point across, including pathos and ethos. His essay is very good in how it gets
its point across, and how it forces even the largest lobster consumers to truly contemplate how the lobster
might react being boiled alive. It brings up many controversial topics of animal rights that many people tend
to avoid, especially people who are major carnivores. Wallace s use of rhetorical strategies really gets the
reader thinking, and thoroughly captures the argument of many vegetarians against the consumption of
animals. Wallace captures the use of pathos in his essay and uses it in a way that is incredibly convincing to
the reader. For example, he compares the Maine Lobster Festival to how a Nebraska Beef Festival could be,
stating, at which part of the festivities is watching trucks pull up and the live cattle get driven down the ramp
and slaughtered right there... (Wallace 700). Playing off of people s natural tendency to feel bad for the cattle,
he shows that the killing of lobster is, in reality, no different than the killing of cattle, but we treat it much
differently. We tend to think that lobsters are different because they are less human than cows are, and, maybe
to make us feel better about our senseless killing of an animal,

Racial Profiling Is A Problem
Racial profiling has been an issue in society for as long as America had a criminal justice system. Racial
profiling is a problem because it refers discriminatory practice bye law enforcement officials of targeting
individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. In 1868,
the fourteenth amendment was ratified which states, No state. Shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction
the equal protection of the laws, would have made racial profiling illegal had it been enforced by the courts.
Many years passed and individuals are still being racially profiled. After the 2001 terrorist attack, George W.
Bush signed an executive order banning the use of race, color, and ethnicity to profile suspects in 70 different
federal agencies. The nature of this social problem is still very serious, so why is racial profiling still a
problem in America today? 81% of American that participated in the national poll surveying the view of racial
profiling that was set up in 1999 disagreed with racial profiling (Gross 1413). Many people including our
former president George Bush and current president Barack Obama have shined a light onto the subject of
racial profiling and its negative outcomes. Citizens, law enforcement and even the individuals that are causing
this issue know that racial profiling is wrong, but it continues to be a major issue that is relevant in the United
States.

Vengeance In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Vengeance in The Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantes, the protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo, is a
man on the verge of great happiness, but that is all dramatically and irreparably ripped away. Edmond Dantes
is a character who is in search of revenge for those who wronged him. A character analysis of Dantes reveals
that through his characteristics, vow of revenge, the symbolism in the death of Fernand, and the symbolism in
the eventual fall of Danglars, Edmond Dantes portrays the archetype of a hero in search of revenge. The
archetype of revenge centers around vengeance being the main goal of the protagonist. Warren Poland
describes vengeance as the rage for retribution, festering till satisfied by destructive acts (Poland). This
describes just how destructive the search for vengeance can be. In most stories where the overarching theme is
about vengeance, the protagonist is sacrificing hope of a normal life for drowning his sorrow in the blood of
those who wronged him. The theme of vengeance can improve any story by adding a feeling that the reader
can connect with and understand. This feeling of pursuing an ultimate goal at any cost is most present when
the hero is turned into a villain that may use twisted logic to justify harming, killing, or ruining the life of
another, and yet the reader does not see him as a villain. Most readers support the hero in search of vengeance
because it is a guilty pleasure that most are unwilling to give up, even if it breaks their moral code. The
archetype of vengeance begins with a vow of revenge made by Dantes. This vow is important as it establishes
the archetype of revenge; it was not supported by Abbe Faria, and represents the things that Dantes lost, has,
and is willing to give up. According to biblestudytools, A vow is a solemn promise made to God to perform or
to abstain from performing a certain thing , and this correlates with the vow that Dantes makes, as his vow is a
verbal manifestation of Dantes commitment to revenge and helps establish the motif of vengeance at any cost
(Smith). The vow made by Dantes carried heavy meaning; he had formed a terrible resolution and taken a
fearful oath which meant that Dantes life was no longer his own, and his

Depression is a serious issue that countless people struggle with; therefore the majority of physicians and
doctors try to develop drugs, or new counselling techniques to help defeat this terrible foe, but perhaps neither
of these solutions are the answer to defeating depression once and for all. Pam Houston suggests another
solution in her short story A Blizzard under Blue Sky . Houston s story begins with the narrator being
diagnosed with clinical depression, yet she refuses to take medication offered by the doctor to help her

topics began to cause my dad to become angry and upset, as he was experiencing extreme anxiety and stress
due to our financial situation added onto many other issues at the time. All I remember was the yelling as my
dad argued over little, insignificant things that were absolutely irrational. This was the moment I truly realised

Antidepressant drugs can help some people, but not all because of the serious side effects this type of
medication can cause. If medications aren t the answer, perhaps therapy and counselling could be a better
solution. Like antidepressant medications, therapy can have its downsides as well and not work for every case
of depression. My dad, who struggles with severe depression, has tried using counselling and other forms of
therapy to conquer his depression, yet none

Federalist Papers #10 Essay
United we stand, divided we fall The Federalist Papers Number 10 is written by James Madison and explains
the necessity of the Constitution to protect our country from factions. A faction is a number of citizens,
whether amounting to a majority or minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common
impulse of passion or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent aggregate interests
of the community (Publius, 72). Publius states that there are two ways to get rid of factions. The first way to
eliminate a faction is to take the Liberty away from all of the people in the faction. The other way to cure a

Publius states that it is not possible to smother a faction but what our country can do is control its effects. A
republican form of government promises the cure of controlling factions. Through elected officials, the
peoples voice will be channeled and there will be, more consonant to the public good then if pronounced by
the people themselves (Publius,77). One way in which a republic deals with factions is the delegation of
government to elected officials. The object of the elected officials is to refine and enlarge the public views by
passing them through the medium of a chosen body of citizens, whose wisdom may best discern the true
interest of their country (Publius,76). This in effect will put the power of our country into the hands of
qualified individuals. These individuals will be able to hear the voice of the people and decide what is the
right decision for the country. Another way that a republic guards against a faction is expanding to include
more people. In a large republic each representative will be chosen by a greater number of citizens. The
greater number of citizens will make it more difficult for unworthy candidates to gain elected office. Elections
are designed to allow people to choose the men that they want to be represented by. People are more likely to
choose the man with the most attractive merit and the most established character thus preventing a man with
vicious views to gain

Saying that, some assumption must be taken. The design is supposed to meet the demand of whole year with
low variation of efficacy. Waste water treatment plants consists on a series of processes and units to produce a
specific effluent of known composition and flow rate. These treatments are essential to deal with domestic,
industrial and agricultural contaminations and pollutants mainly considering solids of organic nature. The
main focus on this design will be organic compounds in the domestic waste water BOD (Biochemical Oxygen
Demand) and TSS (Total Suspended Solids). Based on the Royal Commission for UK and Ireland the
concentrations of effluents to be disposed on receiving water are 20mg/L for BOD5 and 30mg/L for TSS as
theses parameters apparently would not cause any harm and will not be favourable for other process such as
eutrophication. Considering that Severodvinsk is situated close to the Dvina River and White Sea these
concentrations does not need to be highly restricted once that there is plenty of water available for further
dilutions. Is important to have in mind that low parameters involves high investments in processes and
equipments. Before start designing the processes itself is essential to understand the flows and concentrations
of BOD5 and TSS that are running into the units. Some

simply broke the company into 41 separate companies, and controlled them through the new Standard Oil
Trust, legally known as Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey. Because there were no federal laws prohibiting
anticompetitive behavior in business Standard Oil was able to avoid any serious repercussions from the
government. Standard Oil achieved market dominance by undercutting the competition, arranging special
deals with railroads, and aggressively buying out its competition. Between 1902 and 1904 the writer Ida
Tarbell, the daughter of a failed oil businessman whose company went under because of Standard Oils
practices, wrote a 19 part investigational report into the practices of Standard Oil. These articles led to the
wide spread public outcry for the government to do something about Standard Oil and monopolies in all other
industries. In 1911 Standard Oil was sued by the United States and the case reached the Supreme Court. Under
the Sherman Act the government alleged Standard Oil was a monopoly and abused its monopolistic power to
restrain trade through predatory pricing and unfair deals with railroad companies. Standard Oil cut oil prices

What is clear is that a cultural shift has occurred in the industry, which has seen land based casino gaming
become somewhat passé in the eyes of many. This is because the industry is now experiencing a strong
cultural shift from the real life tables to the digital domain. Online casino gaming is now big business in the
UK and throughout Europe. More numbers are now seemingly looking to opt to gamble from the comfort of
their home rather than venture out to a land based casino. This current downturn in the use of brick and mortar
casinos is no more prevalent than it is in Blackpool, as the once mega popular Sam Tai Casino is now
downsizing due to lack of business. This in many ways is what has triggered the turn against the

Lyrical Ballads Captures The Hour of Feeling Essay
Lyrical Ballads were written in a time of great change. They were dominated by the French Revolution and
both Wordsworth and Coleridge felt great impact from this. There was disruption all over with the American
War of Independence and other wars worldwide. Britain itself was changing rapidly due to colonial expansion,
which brought new wealth, ideas and fashion, and there was much disturbance to both the people and the land
with the act of enclosure, which may have meant more effective farming but less work. The introduction of
the Poor Laws meant that landowners paid their remaining staff very little knowing that they would be
supplemented by poor relief. However the conditions stated by the Laws before aid would be given were very

The middle of the eighteenth century was the height of what became known as the ?Age of Reason?, where
people believed that thoughts and actions should be based on the material world. This supported John Locke?s
theories that a populace could legitimately revolt against a tyrannical government. This would have greatly
appealed to British people at a time where the government has become increasingly oppressive due to their
fear of an uprising. The desire for stability was shown in the Church. However this gave many people more
reason to feel the need for change as it said that salvation lay in duty and obedience and that children were
merely blank pages to be educated and therefore gain decency and social responsibility. Dreams and
imagination were distrusted and discouraged. Lyrical Ballads broke through all this, encouraging imagination
and telling us to learn from the simplicity of children, therefore appealing to many people. The 1780?s saw
lots of inspired political and social movements with people hoping to rid the world of slavery, promote
women?s rights, protect workers, increase suffrage, promote tolerance and greater sexual freedom. Many of
these issues are present in Lyrical Ballads. ?Mad Mother?, ?The Thorn?, ?The Female Vagrant? and ?The
Forsaken Indian Woman? all call for better rights for women as it was society that really caused their suffering
in these poems. In ?The Thorn? the woman may never had killed her child with more

Factors That Influence Extremism
Politics. Interpretation. Media. These are all aspects that play a role in how people perceive the world.
Because of these ideas and ideologies that are influenced by society, some people may believe that certain
religions such as Islam; may influence extremism. Yet, this is not the truth. Furthermore, extremism is not
created by religion or in this case Islam.
For the argument that Islam does not influence extremism, one must understand and educate one s self
regarding the factors that create, influence, and enhance extremism. Examples of such factors that may help
create and influence extremism are: politics and radical interpretation. Also, extremist ideology can be
enhanced through the use of media and modern technology.
In the case of politics, extremists have three main reasons that may lead to simply becoming extreme. The
first, is injustice against other Muslims. Extremists see wars on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan for ... Show

Media is used to influence extremism through three main points. The first, is by painting a violent image of
Islam. This violent image is painted through stereotyping and misrepresenting Muslims and Islam in the
media. Research has shown that, media depict Islam as fundamentalism , extremism and radicalism ... in the
modern world where the role of media is central, the image of reality can be manipulated to misrepresent the
actual facts. The media have tried to represent Muslims as terrorists posing a threat to the western security.
(MEŠIĆ 5) The stereotyping and misrepresentation leads to Islamophobia (the fear of Islam) and can go back
to the politics point of injustice against Muslims; wherein extremists feel as though they ve been unfairly
treated and must act out harshly and violently. The violence that occurs as a result also is fueled by further
feelings of threat enhanced through the media; again another example of a factor having absolutely no relation

Pentagram Research Paper
A five pointed star, using one solid line each point represents the elements earth, fire, air, water, and spirit. A

The pentacle is 5 pointed star, contained within a circle. Each point on the star represents the elemental
energies in the universe: it is in many forms people make necklaces, bracelets, earrings etc. from the pentacle.
For modern day Pagans, the Pentacle contains many wonderful layers of symbolism. The five points
symbolize the four directions with the fifth point as the sanctity of Spirit, within and without. The circle
around the star symbolizes unity and wholeness. It represents the quest for Divine Knowledge, The element of
earth represents physical endurance and stability and is the symbol of the lower left point. The lower right
point is symbolic of fire, which represents courage. The element of water represents intuition and emotion and
is the meaning of the upper right point. The upper left point symbolizes air and represents intelligence. The
fifth point is symbolic of the element of spirit, and represents the divine. The meaning is basically similar to

Market Segmentation, Market Positioning, Target Market,...
Starting a company, maintaining the company, and growing the company can be done successfully with
adequate research and analysis. Difficulties arise when there has not been enough examination of the market
segmentation, market positioning, target market, and product augmentation. Each of these analyses are ways
to determine how, where, and when to start a company.
Opening a hotel is never an easy task, but choosing the right city and creating a marketing plan around the
target market is a sure way to have a successful hotel. Denton, Texas is a growing town just outside of Dallas.
The University of North Texas and Texas Woman s University lie at the center with over 50,000 students
flooding the town each year. The population was reaching almost 130,000 in 2014, making almost two thirds
of the population college aged students. The median age in Denton is twenty eight, which is six years younger
than the median age in Texas (United States Census Bureau). A fun way to get visitors engaged in the Denton
lifestyle would be to create an app for the hotel that has information collected by the locals about the town and
the interesting things to do during their visit. There would also be a part of the app that allows the customer to
create their own portfolio which would be used by the hotel to help them create life long customers. The best
restaurants, shopping, and entertainment could all be within the app and visitors could post their own photos
from the trip to earn points

When I was just fifth teen years old, I sang for a Columbia football game. It was just before I would perform
for the first time at Madison Square Garden, and I needed to gain some Performer Confidence, as I call it, in
order to stand up in front of 22,000 people and sing. I clearly remember arriving to the Columbia Football
field with loads of anxiety, and butterflies in my stomach and feet. I made it safely to the gate and said, Hi, I
am today s anthem singer, with a slight smile trying to control my nerves. What I received in return will be
something I will never forget as long as I live. It was the compassionate smile of someone who worked at
Columbia, instantly calming and securing me without any words spoken. As the sky promised the

  • 2. Lobster Research Paper The objective of this project was to cook, and serve lobster utilizing a method, which was given, to prepare the lobster as well as a recipe for the lobster. In addition to this we also needed to create rice pilaf, asparagus, and a vinaigrette salad using the various ingredients provided to us. This project is supposed to give us our first glimpse into implementing our newly found skills from Culinary class into our cooking lifestyle at home. To begin, I par boiled my lobster on high for the allotted amount of time before removing them from the heat, and then shocking them in ice cold water. Following this step, I put them in the refrigerator in order for me to make them the following day. The next day I began by removing the lobster meat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first question was, on a scale from 0 5, how would you rate the overall taste of this meal. To this question my mother answered by bubbling in the number 4. In response to the same question my step father responded by bubbling in the number 3. The second question I asked about the meal was, on a scale from 0 5, how well do you believe the components of this meal were put together. To that question my mother answered by bubbling in the number 4. My step father answered bubbling in the number 4. To end my comment card, as I have previously stated, I included a portion for comments about the meal from my participants. Dante s Accomplishments Dante Alighieri was an italian poet and philosopher who is known worldwide for his masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, which details Dante s journey through purgatory, hell, and paradise or heaven. The Comedy represents the christian idea of fate, and the soul s journey towards god, and is widely considered the greatest piece of literature ever composed in the italian language. He wrote several other great works, including Convivio (The Banquet), La Vita Nuova (The New Life), and De Vulgari Eloquentia (on the eloquence of vernacular). • 4. The Adoption Of Autonomous Vehicles 2.1 Introduction There are roughly 250 million registered motor vehicles in the United States (Blanco, 2010). This corresponds to almost one vehicle for every citizen. According to the Federal Highway Administration, the average American driver drives almost 40 miles every day (FHA, 2011). Given how heavily vehicles are used today, especially in the United States, their replacement with autonomous vehicles could easily have far reaching implications. The adoption of autonomous vehicles into society could affect a multitude of issues. Among these issues are safety, cost, productivity, legality, public opinion, and the environment. Each will be touched upon in this section. It is important to have a general knowledge of these areas in order to better understand the speed at which autonomous vehicles might be adopted. We ve chosen these areas specifically because we expect them to be the biggest factors in the adoption of autonomous vehicles. However, it s important to keep in mind that some of the technologies that will be discussed are still being developed. Therefore the implications that are dependent on technologies still being developed can be considered somewhat speculative. 2.2 Safety One of the major incentives for developing autonomous vehicles is the potential impact on vehicle safety. In 2009, there were 10.8 million motor vehicle accidents in the US, resulting in 35,900 deaths (Census 2012). It s estimated that over 90% of all accidents are due to ... • 5. Literary Analysis Of Dulce Et Decorum Est In early history, Soldiers going off to fight in war seemed brave and fearless. It was always seen as an honor to serve in your country s army. However, in Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, through the depictions of an actual battle, it is shown that those feelings are not actually present during war. The genre of the poem is war. In fact is very much propaganda against war. After the events of World War 1, Owen did not see the necessity of war in witnessing all the suffering it caused. The very title of the poem Dulce et Decorum est can be translated as , It is sweet and proper to die for the fatherland. It is now commonly referred to as the old lie because the saying is very old and commonly used but can not really be seen as true. Though the title is titled as such, the meaning of the poem actually argues against the phrase. In the poem, there is nothing fearless or glorious about the soldiers in the war. All of the language that was in the poem has a very negative connotation. The words used like, beggars , lame , blind , deaf , clumsy, helpless ,and more show that the men are very discombobulated and are in fact suffering. There is a lot of death and chaos occurring. The phrase is referred to as the old lie because how can one see the horrors of war and still tell people and young children that it is honorable and glorious to fight and die for one s country. At first glance. one would assume that Owen utilizes Iambic Pentameter in his poem. However, there is no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its strategic location on the south coast meant that the New Forest was crucial in a range of operations and is home to a wide range of World War II installation. • 7. United States Postal Service UNIT 1 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT MGT 485 0903B 03 GLOBAL STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT ALFRED SIU AUGUST 30, 2009 BY: TINA RAULERSON The most concerning threat USPS faces is the rise in operating expenses, particularly the increase in energy prices and health insurance premiums. Energy prices are at all time highs. With USPS dependency in both, air and ground transportation, energy prices will play a major role in the company s budget. USPS is part of the Federal Employee Health Benefit program and premiums for these benefits have steadily increased over the last couple of years. For example, premiums increased in 2003 by 11.1%. Health benefit payments increased 14% in 2003 from 2002, and by 15.8% in 2004 from 2003 levels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Long Term Action Plan USPS should gradually replace their aging delivery vehicles with hybrid or electric vehicles to reduce delivery costs and dependency on gas. A hybrid vehicle not only saves the Postal Service 32 40% on fuel costs (roughly $1200/car/year based on 30k miles), depending on the vehicle, but USPS would also receive a $3,000 tax incentive on every vehicle. In cities, electric vehicles or SMART cars could be used since delivery routes are shorter with frequent stops. Aside from being fuel efficient, they adhere to the ever stricter emissions rules. With well over 200,000 postal vehicles currently in the system, savings would approach the $1billion mark. Since USPS has monopoly in Standard Mail, prices in this sector should be raised while prices in the package delivery sector should be lowered, albeit marginally, in order to attract higher market share. A raise in first class postage of a little over 8% to $.40 is presently being reviewed. Higher revenues would result from the newly raised prices in the monopolized Standard Mail market, while higher volume sales from the package delivery segment would boost revenues. USPS should first appeal to the US government to leave the Federal Employee Health Benefit program. Then, USPS should research other health plans that are more cost efficient, whether it be a new carrier in the private sector, a change in benefits coverage or alter the level of an employees contribution to ... • 12. Analysis Of Bon Voyage Visual/Object Analysis Project One Greg Olson s Bon Voyage is a framed print painting. It measures 13.50 x 11.88 . This image was submitted to Fine Art America in 2012. I find Olson created a quite busy, yet intricate image that evokes many different thoughts and feelings as to its meaning. One can make a connection with God, others can say the image represents the expansive imagination of children. Less than a quarter of a bed finds itself sitting in the right section of the frame. The blankets were blue with hints of purple. A singular white pillow lays against the wooden bedframe. Above the bed rests a variety of purple and blue shades blended inside a golden picture frame. The walls containing the room are the same mix of blue but with the lightest part of the image being the middle, with it getting subtly darker as the viewers eyes stray left or right from the center. Just to the left of the bed, a young boy, perhaps six years of age, holding open a sturdy wooden chest for a large array of animals. The image looks to be representing post 2000. The boy was a pale skin tone with rosy cheeks and blond hair. He wore a loose, long sleeve red pajama shirt, accompanied by red pajama pants. He wore a heavier blue robe over his shirt. Even though Father Paneloux believed what he was preaching, I believe he was completely wrong. This would make what I would say much different from what Father Paneloux said. However, some strong points did emerge from his sermons. Overall, the two sermons in Albert Camus The Plague fail to help people become more faithful and fail to even preach to the people of Oran the truth. Father Paneloux makes statements in his first sermon that condemn the people of Oran for their wicked behavior. Camus description of the sermon makes clear that Father Paneloux is a strong speaker. Once again, God will not cause suffering until the time of tribulation. Proof of this can be found in the book of Job where God calls Satan and has him afflict Job with nearly every affliction possible. Clearly, just like his first sermon, Father Paneloux s second sermon displays his terrible understanding of the nature and actions of God and causes even more people to turn away from God. If I were to talk to the people of Oran, I would first try to make clear why many of Father Paneloux s ideas are incorrect without being mean to him. I would definitely detail how this affliction is not a result of God s wrath and tell the people why this kind of thinking is completely wrong. I would do this by ensuring the people that God does not cause suffering in this current age and that he even wants to help everyone through the affliction they are currently experiencing. It would be very difficult to drive out the false doctrine that Father Paneloux has taught to the people of Oran, but that would have to be my first priority. • 15. Whiteness And Racism In the past, and even today, the whites in United States had constructed the issue of racism and has directed it towards certain ethnic groups throughout history to show superiority. This is referred to as Whiteness , which is a socially constructed reality; This means one s skin color shapes a person s view and lifestyle and is not inherent in an individual but determined by society. The term whiteness does not necessarily hint at one s skin color or heritage but rather is a social position within society. The ideology states that different ethnic groups within the United States must reach whiteness in order to gain a social advantage to benefit themselves. This can result in certain groups to essentially abandon their culture as well as the others who associate themselves with the said ethnic culture. This grants ethnic groups to obtain a small amount of whiteness but are not completely seen as white until the race as a whole is accepted and seen as something that is considered white culture. Whiteness has been the reason for affecting national identity within the United States, primarily because of the development of racism and how it has been directed towards specific groups. These groups, unlike others, have failed and continue to fail at attaining a high social position, due to the fact that some of the first groups were racially incorporated in society and were seen as a threat to those who held a white , or the highest, status in society compared to other ... He allows the pigs to be educated and excludes the others. However, he personally educates some puppies, foreseeing them as a powerful weapon to gain full authority over the animals and to reduce distrust that could lead to revolt. Fortunately for him, he already wields the power of education, enabling him to rise almost effortlessly to power; With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume leadership (pg. 21). This is a subtle infraction of the principles clearly stated in the commandments of Animalism. Equality is supposed to apply to everyone and every situation, but the animals are accustomed to having a leader, therefore, it is second nature for them to rely on a person higher than them. Sadly for the majority of the naïve animals, the pigs ascend to power simply because the weapon of education is pointing at them and they are found weaponless and unable to defend themselves. Animalism is turned into an oligarchy, rule by the elite, in this case the pigs are the elite because they are more educated than the animals. Napoleon not only wants power over the lowly farm animals, but he seeks absolute control over the entire farm, including the remaining pigs. To do this, he again takes advantage of the power that lies in education; He said that the education of the young was more important than anything that could be done for those who were already grown up (pg. 26). • 17. Bacon s Rebellion and Challenge Bacon s Rebellion and Challenge: Bacon s rebellion is a civil war that erupted between the English and the Indians in the Chesapeake whose main cause was land and labor. Since the English men were facing hunger, they decided to go out in search of greener pastures that included the search for new lands to do farming and later change it to cash. The farming itself involved looking a place that they would plant tobacco and as they were in this process, they came along some Indian communities who were already residing at their (English) border. That is when the conflict began whereby the Indian communities were beaten up and forced to flee from the area. This not only affected the Indians but also former servants who had worked with the colonialists and were part and parcel of the colonists as they ended up being landless. During this war, Bacon refused to send any troop that would assist in stopping the conflict leading to loss of lives and discrimination by the Indians. The Southerners were not needed by the government and even those who held top positions were ordered to be killed, removed forcefully from their positions, and sold into slavery. Since these individuals were under Bacon s power, they had no choice than to comply with the order. It has been taken quite recently from the honeycomb; it has not yet lost all the honey flavor. It retains some of the scent of the flowers from which it was collected. (Descartes, 22) He ends his argument on how he perceives the wax with telling us that it is not our imagination that grasps all of the perceptions of the wax, but the mind that does it. Rene Descartes just proved to us that our imagination is not able to grasp all of the perceptions of the wax but the mind is. After proving that theory he suddenly starts to doubt his proof. But meanwhile I marvel at how prone my mind is to errors. (Descartes, 22) He states that his mind is prone to making errors. For example; For we say we see the wax itself, if it is present, and not that we judge it to be present from its color or shape. (Descartes, 22) He thinks a mistake our minds make is when we judge that it is wax by just looking at it and not paying any attention to any of the forms. For this reason he is claiming that he still is not sure that the mind can actually perceive the wax due to it making mistakes. In his essay Consider the Lobster, it s apparent what David Foster Wallace is trying to tell his audience: we should really think about the lobster s point of view before cooking and eating it. Wallace uses multiple rhetorical strategies to get his point across, including pathos and ethos. His essay is very good in how it gets its point across, and how it forces even the largest lobster consumers to truly contemplate how the lobster might react being boiled alive. It brings up many controversial topics of animal rights that many people tend to avoid, especially people who are major carnivores. Wallace s use of rhetorical strategies really gets the reader thinking, and thoroughly captures the argument of many vegetarians against the consumption of animals. Wallace captures the use of pathos in his essay and uses it in a way that is incredibly convincing to the reader. For example, he compares the Maine Lobster Festival to how a Nebraska Beef Festival could be, stating, at which part of the festivities is watching trucks pull up and the live cattle get driven down the ramp and slaughtered right there... • 34. Vengeance In The Count Of Monte Cristo Vengeance in The Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantes, the protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo, is a man on the verge of great happiness, but that is all dramatically and irreparably ripped away. Edmond Dantes is a character who is in search of revenge for those who wronged him. A character analysis of Dantes reveals that through his characteristics, vow of revenge, the symbolism in the death of Fernand, and the symbolism in the eventual fall of Danglars, Edmond Dantes portrays the archetype of a hero in search of revenge. The archetype of revenge centers around vengeance being the main goal of the protagonist. Warren Poland describes vengeance as the rage for retribution, festering till satisfied by destructive acts (Poland). This describes just how destructive the search for vengeance can be. In most stories where the overarching theme is about vengeance, the protagonist is sacrificing hope of a normal life for drowning his sorrow in the blood of those who wronged him. The theme of vengeance can improve any story by adding a feeling that the reader can connect with and understand. This feeling of pursuing an ultimate goal at any cost is most present when the hero is turned into a villain that may use twisted logic to justify harming, killing, or ruining the life of another, and yet the reader does not see him as a villain. Most readers support the hero in search of vengeance because it is a guilty pleasure that most are unwilling to give up, even if it breaks their moral code. The archetype of vengeance begins with a vow of revenge made by Dantes. This vow is important as it establishes the archetype of revenge; it was not supported by Abbe Faria, and represents the things that Dantes lost, has, and is willing to give up. According to biblestudytools, A vow is a solemn promise made to God to perform or to abstain from performing a certain thing , and this correlates with the vow that Dantes makes, as his vow is a verbal manifestation of Dantes commitment to revenge and helps establish the motif of vengeance at any cost (Smith). The vow made by Dantes carried heavy meaning; he had formed a terrible resolution and taken a fearful oath which meant that Dantes life was no longer his own, and his ... Through elected officials, the peoples voice will be channeled and there will be, more consonant to the public good then if pronounced by the people themselves (Publius,77). One way in which a republic deals with factions is the delegation of government to elected officials. The object of the elected officials is to refine and enlarge the public views by passing them through the medium of a chosen body of citizens, whose wisdom may best discern the true interest of their country (Publius,76). This in effect will put the power of our country into the hands of qualified individuals. These individuals will be able to hear the voice of the people and decide what is the right decision for the country. Another way that a republic guards against a faction is expanding to include more people. In a large republic each representative will be chosen by a greater number of citizens. The greater number of citizens will make it more difficult for unworthy candidates to gain elected office. These treatments are essential to deal with domestic, industrial and agricultural contaminations and pollutants mainly considering solids of organic nature. The main focus on this design will be organic compounds in the domestic waste water BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and TSS (Total Suspended Solids). Based on the Royal Commission for UK and Ireland the concentrations of effluents to be disposed on receiving water are 20mg/L for BOD5 and 30mg/L for TSS as theses parameters apparently would not cause any harm and will not be favourable for other process such as eutrophication. Considering that Severodvinsk is situated close to the Dvina River and White Sea these concentrations does not need to be highly restricted once that there is plenty of water available for further dilutions. Is important to have in mind that low parameters involves high investments in processes and equipments. Before start designing the processes itself is essential to understand the flows and concentrations of BOD5 and TSS that are running into the units. Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Riordan most closely represents the Responsive chain as the company allows room for customization as well as flexibility to the changing needs of their customers (Chase, Jacobs, amp; Aquilano, 2006, p.13). To manage ever changing needs Riordan has implemented the use of an electronic information system; the ability to communicate quickly, control costs, inventory levels, and efficiencies has further refined the supply process. Riordan Manufacturing also uses measures to determine the efficacy of their supply chain. Those measures come in the form of mathematical equations. The following are the formulas to indicate efficacy (Chase, Jacobs, amp; Aquilano, 2006, p.418): 1. Shipping Cost Saving = air shipping cost shipping costs by ship 2. Shipping Cost Savings = inventory carrying cost = item value X 0.30 X 6 days 365 days per year It is also common to measure supply chain efficiency by looking at inventory turnover as well as weeks of supply. Excessive inventory ties up funds as well increases inventory within the plant The manufacturer in China independently performs sales forecasting as well as the permission to produce product intended to meet the predicted demand (University of Phoenix, 2006). • 40. Standard Oil And The Largest Petroleum Products Company In 1870 John D. Rockefeller started Standard Oil Co. and it quickly became the largest petroleum products company in the world. By 1890 Standard controlled 90 percent of refined oil in the United States and was sued by the state of Ohio for its anticompetitive practices. Standard Oil of Ohio which was its original name simply broke the company into 41 separate companies, and controlled them through the new Standard Oil Trust, legally known as Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey. Because there were no federal laws prohibiting anticompetitive behavior in business Standard Oil was able to avoid any serious repercussions from the government. Standard Oil achieved market dominance by undercutting the competition, arranging special deals with railroads, and aggressively buying out its competition. Between 1902 and 1904 the writer Ida Tarbell, the daughter of a failed oil businessman whose company went under because of Standard Oils practices, wrote a 19 part investigational report into the practices of Standard Oil. These articles led to the wide spread public outcry for the government to do something about Standard Oil and monopolies in all other industries. In 1911 Standard Oil was sued by the United States and the case reached the Supreme Court. Under the Sherman Act the government alleged Standard Oil was a monopoly and abused its monopolistic power to restrain trade through predatory pricing and unfair deals with railroad companies. • 42. Lyrical Ballads Captures The Hour of Feeling Essay Lyrical Ballads were written in a time of great change. They were dominated by the French Revolution and both Wordsworth and Coleridge felt great impact from this. There was disruption all over with the American War of Independence and other wars worldwide. Britain itself was changing rapidly due to colonial expansion, which brought new wealth, ideas and fashion, and there was much disturbance to both the people and the land with the act of enclosure, which may have meant more effective farming but less work. The introduction of the Poor Laws meant that landowners paid their remaining staff very little knowing that they would be supplemented by poor relief. The middle of the eighteenth century was the height of what became known as the ?Age of Reason?, where people believed that thoughts and actions should be based on the material world. This supported John Locke?s theories that a populace could legitimately revolt against a tyrannical government. This would have greatly appealed to British people at a time where the government has become increasingly oppressive due to their fear of an uprising. The desire for stability was shown in the Church. However this gave many people more reason to feel the need for change as it said that salvation lay in duty and obedience and that children were merely blank pages to be educated and therefore gain decency and social responsibility. Dreams and imagination were distrusted and discouraged. Lyrical Ballads broke through all this, encouraging imagination and telling us to learn from the simplicity of children, therefore appealing to many people. The 1780?s saw lots of inspired political and social movements with people hoping to rid the world of slavery, promote women?s rights, protect workers, increase suffrage, promote tolerance and greater sexual freedom. Many of these issues are present in Lyrical Ballads. ?Mad Mother?, ?The Thorn?, ?The Female Vagrant? and ?The Forsaken Indian Woman? all call for better rights for women as it was society that really caused their suffering in these poems. Because of these ideas and ideologies that are influenced by society, some people may believe that certain religions such as Islam; may influence extremism. Yet, this is not the truth. Furthermore, extremism is not created by religion or in this case Islam. For the argument that Islam does not influence extremism, one must understand and educate one s self regarding the factors that create, influence, and enhance extremism. Examples of such factors that may help create and influence extremism are: politics and radical interpretation. Difficulties arise when there has not been enough examination of the market segmentation, market positioning, target market, and product augmentation. The median age in Denton is twenty eight, which is six years younger than the median age in Texas (United States Census Bureau).
