Dn Dna And Dna
Question 1 a) DNA replication is the process in which a cell passes this DNA sequence onto
other cells when it divides which is known as mitosis as it must duplicate its genome so each
new cell has a copy. This occurs during interphase. During DNA replication the enzyme DNA
helicase are important as they separate double stranded DNA into single strands allowing each
strand to be copied. DNA polymerase are another important enzyme that starts attaching new
complementary nucleotides to these templates. It is done according to the base pairing rules,
A=T, C=G, G=C and T=A. Once the new nucleotides are attached, two new sister DNA strands
are formed same as the original strand. The result is two identical strands, each of which is half
new. b) mRNA is a translation of DNA into a convertible protein substituting T with U. The
template strand shown is the 1st step of transcription and it is transcribed to: GTA GAT TGG
GGT CTC CTC. Each of the codons codes for a particular amino acid. For example, each codon is a
triplet and codes for one amino acid. In the strand shown it separates it into triplets that will
reveal codon and amino acid number. For example, CAT CTA ACC CCA GAG GAG = 6 amino
acids. c) Sickle cell anaemia GTA GAT TGG GGT CAC CTC Normal haemoglobin GTA GAT
TGG GGT CTC CTC While comparing the difference between the normal and sickle cell strands,
it was identified that in the sickle cell there is a coding error. As the transcription error causes the

The fact that this galaxy cluster was not identified by textit{ROSAT} as a cluster suggests that

Diana Nyad Research Paper
Diana Nyad is well known for swimming from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage; her
experience can teach others to see the world and themselves in a whole new perspective.
Although she accomplished her goal, it took Nyad a total of five attempts in order to
successfully swim from Cuba to Florida. Her fifth and final attempt to make this journey took her
approximately fifty three hours. The distance was over 110 miles, which broke the world record
for the distance swam without the protection of a shark cage. Even though Nyad went through
hard times during her expedition, she never gave up on herself. Her experience plays a large role
in not only how people see the world, but the way they see themselves too.
The hard times that Nyad encountered during the swim only made her stronger. She experienced
severe cold temperatures, which could have lead to hypothermia very quickly. As she was
swimming down the Florida Straits, she began to vomit because of the large ... Show more content

She states, Never, ever give up, you re never too old to chase your dreams. It looks like a solitary
sport but it is a team effort (Viti). In the same interview, Nyad talks about what she is proud of
and what she considers success. During the interview she states, I m proud that I swam the
distance, but I m even more proud that I found a way to intelligently assemble a team that
formulated solutions to the extensive variables to make our way across. That s success (Viti). Nyad
is beyond proud of her accomplishment of swimming from Cuba to Florida, however she mentions
that in some way, everything is a team effort. Her team is what helped her accomplish her own
personal goal, and she is thankful for that. This can make people realize that personal goals can be
accomplished as a team effort, and asking for help is okay. Nyad can influence the perspectives of
many people around the world and their

Who Is To Blame The Titanic
The sinking of the Titanic is one most well known shipwreck in modern day history and it s still
being written and told about even a century later. The causation of the sinking has been debated
heavily since the crash in 1912 and many so called experts of the titanic disagree with another on
this issue. There has been new development when the ship was discovered in 1985 and examined
by experts. Leading people that the sinking was caused by three major turning points. The first
being the failures of White Star Linewho manufacture the ship starting in 1909. The second being
the crew of the ship that had some very serve flaws in the plan of action leading up to the disaster.
Lastly the passengers who had enough time to prepare before the... Show more content on

It s common knowledge that the Titanic didn t have enough lifeboats, even though it met the
require amount by the board of trade the mindset was that it wasn t going to sink in the first place
so it didn t really matter if they added more. These mindsets lead to more than 1,500 passengers
losing their lives, and further in the essay you can see that pattern emerge more than once. Another
controversial topic is whether or not the titanic tried to beat a cross Atlantic speed record.
When the ship first left Belfast ,promises were made that it wouldn t try to beat any record, but
the ship s captain was urged to go full speed since they had left the dock leading many to believe
that they were indeed trying to beat a record. At a first dinner on the night of the sinking Mr.
Ismay was seen in a confident mood telling first class passengers that the Titanic was going to
beat a record. This speed made the Titanic harder to slow down when coming up to the iceberg
fields which cause the ship to hit harder against the ice causing more damage. The next key piece
is the crew members who didn t take enough steps to help prevent the crash. The first one is John
Phillips who was the transmission officer on the Titanic. He was tired from the mountains of
transmissions he revived that day alone and had to fix the radio after it

Against Legalization Of Marijuana Essay
There currently exists a great debate concerning Legalization of marijuana. Many people are
against the idea, but there are a number of people who fight for the idea to legalize Marijuana. The
people that try to Legalize Marijuana use two major arguments in their effort to have marijuana
legalized. First, which is by far the biggest argument is that marijuanahas a significant medical use.
The second is that marijuana does not cause harm to those that smoke it. Both of these arguments
can be easily discounted by the numerous studies that have been done on the effects of marijuana
both medicinal and recreational. Many well intentioned leaders and members of the public have
been misled by the well financed and organized pro drug... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact is that there is not one reliable scientific study that shows smoking marijuana to be a safe
and effective drug.
The majority of the marijuana advocates evidence comes from unscientific, non scrutinized or
analysed anecdotal statements from people with a variety of illnesses. It is unknown whether these
individuals used marijuana prior to their illness or are using marijuana in combination with other
medicines. It is also unknown whether they have had recent medical examinations, are justifying
their use of marijuana, experiencing a placebo effect, or experiencing the intoxicating effect of
smoking marijuana. The main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana (THC) is already legally
available in pharmaceutical capsule form by prescription from medical doctors. This drug,
Marinol, is less often prescribed because of the potential adverse effects, and there are more
effective new medicines currently available. Marinol differs from the crude plant marijuana
because it consists of one pure, well studied, FDA approved pharmaceutical in stable known
dosages. Marijuana is an unstable mixture of over 400 chemicals including many toxic
psychoactive chemicals, which are largely unstudied and appear in uncontrolled strengths.

halo effect and recency effect Essay
As Director of Human Resources for People, people who need people.com, I have created the
following training proposal which will include common problems that occur when managers
complete performance reviews and suggestions for supervisors on how to eliminate or reduce these
problems.
The common problems I have identified when conducting my research for this training are as
follows:
Г The halo effect which as the name implies causes supervisors to only see the angel in an
employee and blinds them by ignoring smaller problem areas that require growth and development.
(San Joaquin County Human Resources Division, 2002) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(San Joaquin County Human Resources Division, 2002)
Г The mirroring effect is when supervisors favor employees that remind them of themselves and
have difficulty assessing and valuing the differences others bring to the workplace. (San Joaquin
County Human Resources Division, 2002)
The following solutions are what I am proposing to eliminate or reduce these problems:
Г On the halo effect, produce continuous documentation over the duration of the evaluation,
which will assist supervisors in writing the employee s evaluation.
Г On comparing employees, write their evaluations at different times, which will give the
supervisor time to center on one employee at a time.
Г For the central tendency effect, supervisors need to identify problem areas with identifiable
solutions and the leadership to resolve these problem areas. By providing information that is
constructive, the supervisor is helping the person become an improved person.
Г On the pitchfork effect, supervisors need to remember that they are evaluating the employee for
the entire time frame indicated on the evaluation. Constant records of performance, helps the
supervisor stay away from focusing on a particular event.
Г For the labeling effect, supervisors need to be aware of their insights and preconceived

With New Discoveries That Are Made Every Day, The Science
With new discoveries that are made every day, the science community in a broad sense has
become more complex. As scientists and researchers are publishing new sightings, it brings to
light better understandings of ourselves as an individual and as a society at large. This is same
impression that could be made for the field of Psychology. Compared to its early establishment, the
schools of thought have expanded tremendously. While each school has its own topic of focus,
their ideals at times can overlap with one another. When it comes to psychological disorders, the
list of possible diagnoses has exponentially increased from the original general categories.

These patients rather cannot be diagnosed as schizophrenic, but possess schizophrenic like
symptomatology (Kendler, 1985). Hence, the patient may be portrayed as having a mild
Schizophrenia. In general, the prevalence of PSD is in about 3% of a general population
(Hernandez, 2010) and is more prevalent in males than females (Harvard Health Publication, 2013).
One major aspect among patients is that they have some type of trouble maintaining relationships
with others.
Historically, the DSM III criteria for PSD was established around the 1970 s by Spitzer, Endicott,
and Gibbon after investigation of the schizophrenic spectrum (Kendler, 1985). During this period,
because STPD was closely related to Schizophrenia it was also considered as Borderline
Schizophrenia. However, treatments for this conditions depends on what perspective used. For
instance, within STPD s early establishment, diagnosis focused as between the familial vs. clinical
approaches. Familial focused on symptoms that were present in nonpsychotic relatives of the
schizophrenics while clinical centered on how closed related the symptoms were to schizophrenia
without the psychotic symptoms (Kendler, 1985). Another point of view is to see where the
symptoms fall into a three factor model. Among the factors, the cognitive perceptual factor was
correlated to symptoms of abstract thinking, the interpersonal factor was associated with poor social
relations, and disorganized factor was linked to

Hydrilla Florida Waterways Case Study
VIII. Interdisciplinary Understanding/Solution
In studying the problem of hydrilla Florida waterways, it was apparent that management of this
invasive species must take an interdisciplinary approach. The economic indicators with the
possibility of lost revenue, water usage, and habitat biodiversity drive the need for control.
According to Corn, at the federal level there is a need for comprehensive legislature to address
invasive species. The current process in reporting an invasive species problem can run into time
constraints working through the many agencies to achieve funding. A rapid response is desired to
quickly remove the plant before it spreads beyond the ability to control. It is believed that hydrilla
is so wide spread today that control can only be achieved through managing feasible levels of it
within the limits of funding. Two new integrating approaches are proposed to aid in the goal of
reaching sustainable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new plan proposed would begin with establishing the sources of nutrient loads and making
sure they all have plans for complying with mandated maximum loads. Economic impact
analysis will drive the location of the endangered body of water and begin the process to apply
for validation and funding options from the ISCHO. In Florida, agencies responsible for invasive
species response are the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Commission(FWC). These agencies will get notification from the federal level if
a management plan is recommended to go forward. This will also open up options for funding. At
the state level, funding from the November 4th passing of Amendment 1 will greatly enhance the
ability to begin hydrilla management programs (Houser 2014). Governor Scott has budgeted
millions for nutrient limits and restoration plans, more will be available for all programs due to

Chief Lieutenant Essay
In A Chief Lieutenant, Jackson recovers the lived experience of oppression in Mississippi during
the early twentieth century. While cognizant of the extraordinary brutality that lay beneath the legal
apparatus of segregation, he focuses upon the constraints institutionalized racism imposed upon a
black middle class that nevertheless strove to make Mound Bayou a haven. His depiction of
Charles Banks, an admiring one, confirms historian Robert Kenzer s observation that successful
African Americans in the South were forced to live very public lives in which they faced constant
scrutiny not only from other blacks but also from whites. [2] As for Mound Bayou, it is worth

Founded in 1887 as an all black community with the support of the Louisville, New Orleans, and
Texas Railroad, Mound Bayou was a haven for African Americans as violence against them rose
precipitously in the last years of the nineteenth century. By the early twentieth century, Washington
could look upon Mound Bayou as an exemplar of his famous injunction to cast down your bucket
where you are. [4]
Subsequent chapters explore Banks s activities in Mound Bayou through his connection to the
Tuskegee Institute and Booker T. Washington
. For the purposes of this review, most may be
summarized briefly. Chapters 3 and 4 explicitly describe Banks s connection to the Tuskegee
Machine. Having met Washington at the inaugural meeting of the National Negro Business
League (NNBL) in 1900, Banks rapidly became a trusted correspondent. Washington and his
secretary, Emmett Scott, relied upon Banks for information about Mississippi affairs. Through his
connection to Tuskegee, Banks was able to obtain for Mound Bayou a farm demonstration agent
from the Department of Agriculture in 1907. He was also instrumental in planning Washington s
1908 tour through Mississippi. Chapter 5 focuses upon the National Negro Business League

Describe The Importance Of Road Safety Inspections
Road Safety Inspections
Road safety inspections are important. The material explicitly describes the importance of safety
inspections. Without road inspections, the streets and highways would be a chaos for commuters
(Ward, Otto Linkenbach, 2014). Just imagined if the overgrown shrubs and trees hid the traffic road
signs and directional signs pointing in the wrong way. This would be a recipe for disaster.
Additional lives would be at risk by this potential roadway hazards. Identifying potential roadway
hazards timely may reduce the mortality rate (Ward, Otto Linkenbach, 2014).
The Office of Traffic Safety and other similar agencies are working diligently to develop a remedial
measure to save drivers lives (DOT, 2011). To alleviate the road hazards in Minnesota, the road
safety inspector conducts routine safety inspections. The safety inspector examines the highways,
construction signs, bridges, and obstructions that may block the motorists view (DOT, 2011). The
State of Minnesota is vulnerable to various potential hazards. These hazards are associated with
man made and natural disasters that threatens the loss of life and property.
Inspector Role
An inspection is a critical element that detects and responds to potential hazards. For example, the
inspector ensures that the road signs are visible both day and night. In Minnesota, public safety
department encourages the citizens to report any potential road hazards like potholes and damaged
road signs.

Vasoconstriction Research Paper
Humans help maintain their body temperature by wearing clothes. When someone is surrounded
by something that is cooler than their body temperature, like air, or water, the body will lose heat.
Although clothing and shelter helps people stay warm, our body has adapted vasoconstriction as a
way to keep critical organs warm. Vasoconstriction is the tightening of blood vessels.
Vasoconstriction causes the blood flow to reduce which conserves body heat. However,
vasoconstriction can also lead to numbness, loss of hands, fingers and etc. The human body also
uses shivering to maintain body temperature. For example, shivering increases internal heat
production by causing the muscles to contract and relax rapidly.

Frostnip occurs when water on the skins surface freezes. When recognizing frostnip some signs
and symptoms you should look for are: if the skin appears red and swollen, area is still painful
and repeated frostnip in the same area. When caring for frostnip you should gently warm the
affected area. You can do this by placing it against a warm body part. However, do not rub the
affected area. Frostbite is when the skins tissue becomes damage. This only happens in below
freezing temperatures. When recognizing a superficial frostbite, the skin should be white or
grayish yellow, the affect part should be cold and numb and the skin surface will feel stiff.
When recognizing a deep frostbite, the affect part should feel very hard, blisters might appear,
or if the affected pain stops hurting. When caring for a frostbite victim, first get the victim out of
the cold and into a warm place. Next, remove any wet clothing and seek medical attention. After,
if the affect part is partially thawed, place the affected area in warm water. After thawing: treat
the victim as a stretcher case is the feet is affected. Also, protect the area from contact.
Furthermore, place a dry, sterile gauze between the toes and the fingers to absorb moisture. Then,
slightly elevate the affected area. If advised by a physician, apply aloe vera gel, this will help the
skin heal. Lastly, give the victim an aspirin, this will help limit the pain and

Summary Of Modern Technology In The Movie I Robot
I Robot, directed by Alex Proyas, is a film that shows how modern technology will advance
within the years; making people question their everyday lifestyle. In I Robot, the main
character Detective Del Spooner, had us follow his journey on questioning societal expectations.
This all began from the creation that Dr. Alfred Lanning, who created the robots as well as
V.I.K.I. The main NS5 robot in the movie is named Sonny, who questioned his purpose of life as
a robot. This Film was designed to have us question, understand the rules and order in situations
and evolve with society. In this film, we can recognize that Det Del Spooner isn t too keen on
having robots around to help with their tasks. He believes that by having the NS5 robots do our
tasks makes us as humans less dependable on ourselves. We don t evolve and become stagnated
in our own society waiting for the robots to do the chore. Det Del Spooner witnesses how
everyone around him fully rely on their robots for their tasks. One scene where Det Del Spooner
observes a robot running with a purse. Of course, he assumed that the robot just stole the bag.
Afterwards, it is uncovered that this robot was not stealing but running to give his owner her
purse. Consequently, the robot was just doing his job and helping his owner. This displays how
Det Del Spooner is very cautious and doesn t believe that the robots will maintain the laws set up
for them when created. The laws were set up to protect the humans, to obey the

Bully In Odd Girl Out
Odd Girl Out is a 2005 film focusing on Vanessa Snyder and her friend group. Vanessa and her
friends are high school students who deal with the effects of bullying. More specifically,
Vanessa deals with the effects of bullying, while her friends take active parts in the role of the
bully. This film deals with topics discussed in a tenth grade health class such as bullying and the
stages and places to be taken in it, as well as self confidence. The first instance of bullying was
immediate, happening within the first few minutes of the film. We see Stacey, Nikki, and Vanessa
compliment Tiffany s skirt, only to turn around and make fun of it. This was harmless, of course,
because it was between the small group. However, it was bullying nonetheless, and the already
nasty attitude the girls have towards other people festered into negative feelings towards each other.

Using the bully circle as a reference, one can say that Nikki was a definite bully, as she started
the whole persecution of Vanessa. It can be debated whether Stacy would be considered a bully,
henchman, or disengaged onlooker, as she watched Nikki and her peers torment Vanessa, and
was constantly aware of the acts being committed, but does not join in on it. That is, until Stacy
gives Vanessa false information about the party, leading her to go to the wrong place, which
bumps her up into being a henchman, who takes an active role in the bullying. Emily, a friend
that Vanessa makes through the events of the movie, would be considered a resistor or defender,
since she is constantly standing up for Vanessa and against the tyranny of the girls bullying her.
Other students have other roles in the bullying, such as Tony, who would be a disengaged
onlooker, because we do not see him partake in the bullying nor do we see him stand up for

Foreign military and economic intervention by European imperial powers created greater instability
in China. Western powers, through an unequal treaty system, engaged in legal imperialism that
gave them protection through special rights and privileges that gradually reduced Chinese
tradesmen to a subordinate role. Opium trade, fueled by Britain, drained China of silver, and
drove up the price of silver. Silver was the standard payment for taxes, but rising prices made tax
payments an economic burden for peasants. The First Opium War, 1839 to 1842, resulted in the
defeat of the Chinese and the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing. The treaty forced ceded Hong Kong
to the British and open treaty ports to the British along the southern coast providing Britain with
greater access to foreign trade. The emerge of western competition in China threaten the livelihood
of people throughout the country and weakened China s economic power in the region overall.
New trade routes, commodities, and the introduction of western business practices affected many
people in various parts of the country.
China, during the mid nineteenth century, also experienced its own internal political instability.
The Taiping Rebellion ravaged the southern provinces from 1851 to 1864. Originating in Guangxi
provinces and spreading throughout southern China, the Taiping Rebellion resulted in an estimated

Introduction
There s lot of bad reasons to start a company but there s only one good or best reason, and I think

Libin, CEO of Evernote and it is relate much to people who want to start become an
entrepreneur. 7 over 10 employer firms survives at least 2 years, the other half at least 5 years, a
third at least 10 years and the quarter stay in business 15 years or more. The two successful
entrepreneurs that achieved global success are Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of original

Mike s Struggle With Alcohol Abuse
Alcoholism has little to do with what kind of alcohol one drinks, how long one has been
drinking, or even exactly how much alcohol one consumes. But it has a great deal to do with a
person s uncontrollable need for alcohol. Did you know that 88,000 deaths a year are attributed to
excessive alcohol abuse? Today, you will be hearing about a young gentle man just at the age of 22
that struggles with alcohol addictionand how it has affected his future. His name is Mike, a
college baseball player that struggles with alcohol because he grew up witnessing alcohol
addiction in the family. Mike s father struggled with alcohol addiction as well as his grandpa back

There are 5 steps I recommend for Mike to continue his stoppage with alcohol. First, identify
your reasons. Find your why of why you want to change and continue the progress of having a
clean life. For Mike, baseball, school, and family is something he is passionate about so he will
base his life around those three whys and make them priorities. Second, make a plan. Have a
vision of what you want and go get it. Have a reminder around you at all times to make sure you
stay motivated in your progress. Mike decided to get a Rocky poster put above his bed at school
to wake up to, and remind him to conquer the day. Third, share your plan with others. People
who hide their problems from people are more likely to fall in those same patterns again. Take
pride in your change, and share with others your mission and how you are going to improve your
life. Mike wanted to change his physical body as a replacement of drinking, so he replaced his
beer gut with ten pounds of muscle. Fourth, evaluate your progress. Each week evaluate your
short team goals and stay on tract. Short term success leads to long term success. You can make
a leap of faith but it won t happen in one night. Mike is constantly reminding himself to Trust the
Process. Learn from the pass and have faith for the future. Lastly, continue your new behaviors.
After trying this plan for 30 days, try it for another 30 days. Like anything else in life, it is not
easy to change behavior, even when it might be in your best interest. Mike is sticking to his main
priorities which are baseball, school, and family which are helping him stay on tract while his
grades are already

Ishmael Harrington Extract
In the beginning of the extract, the theme that is revealed is hunger, which is present throughout
the extract especially when Harrington is watched eating. For example, this is clear to the
audience as Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer.
This quote proves Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his
mouth, a greasy trickle of pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that
the phrase a greasy trickle of pink liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross
because of the colour pink and it could also be described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the
description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he
was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is used to describe the meat large chunk .
He chewed hungrily is also another way to prove how hungry he was. I... Show more content on

Also, the description of the facial expression shows disproval of what he was given. I think that

2.Usage of sugarcane bagasse ash as a replacement to Portland cement in concrete
The target economic sectors of the proposed research are the sugar industry and the construction
industry. The sugar industry will be directly affected, since the main goal of this research project
is to develop a sugarcane bagasse ash based product that can be used as an additive for concrete
mixes. Due to the known properties and chemical composition of sugarcane bagasse, it is
expected that this new product will be competitive with fly ash in terms of improving the
properties of concrete mixes. The newly added economic value of bagasse ash may also make it
economically advantageous to burning the entire stock of bagasse fiber for electricity production
beyond the needs of the sugar mills. The local construction industry will be indirectly affected by
the availability of an additive for concrete production with a lower cost and similar properties to
fly ash. This new bagasse ash based product is expected to reduce the construction costs of projects
requiring large amounts of concrete (e.g., foundations, concrete bridges), thus, leading to a
potential increase in the number of construction projects per year. The results of this research will
have a significant impact on the economic development of US regions where the sugar industry is
present, such as Florida, Texas, and Hawaii

Reconstruction Of The American Civil War
Minkyo Seo May 26, 2016 Reconstruction As the American Civil War came to a close, the
United States started to revamp the country, during what became known as the Reconstruction
Era. Throughout this Period of time (1865 1877), the authorities attempted to fix America
politically, economically, and physically. The United States unfortunately faced struggles, when
people were evidently unable to adapt themselves to the era. As a result of bringing an attempt
to come back from the defeat, the result was insufficient. This clearly shows that the
Reconstruction Era was certainly not a success because the changes created by the government
failed to make positive changes to society. There were numerous of conflicts in The Civil War
and Problems the Nation was Faced with that led up to the reconstruction. One of the origins of
the war was Sectionalism. Sectionalism is the devotion to the interests of one geographic region
over interests of the country in whole. This ultimately led to the union s worst crisis; Civil War
between the North and the South in the early 1860s (Cornfield). On the other hand, Kansas
Nebraska Act Bleeding Kansas of 1854 was a major event occurred. This created territories in

Feminism And Gender And Ethnic Studies
My Interpretation of Feminism Feminism has had a deep impact on me since I was infantile.
Though she never mentioned it, my mother was an active feminist. I grew up playing with toys
considered to belong to either sex. I was taught to be strong and to let my emotions out, and I was
given freedom to make my own identity. This was my first experience of social feminism, followed
years later by learning the definition of feminism and learning to also see discrimination politically
and economically. To further my understanding of feminism, I am currently taking the class

I then resorted back to girly hobbies, such as arts and crafts or experimenting outfit styles. I still
spend at least ten minutes each morning adorning my hair. As far as my initial views on feminism
went, the only difference I saw between men and women were physique. I would soon learn what it
meant to be a feminist.
Later, in high school, I met my significant other. She grew up in a family of engaged feminists.
One day she asked me whether I considered myself feminist. At this point, I had never thought
much of it, so I said No. She taught me exactly what it meant to be feminist, not the man hating,
hateful person, but the caring, thoughtful person who stands up for equality amongst sexes,
genders, and races. After that, I have always considered myself a feminist. Earlier this year I
decided to take the Introduction to Women s Gender and Ethnic studies class during my first
semester of college.
After studying the first unit of the class, I learned about different feminisms. I now know about
liberal feminists, who campaigned for equal rights of citizenship and for the end of discrimination,
(); socialist feminists, who attributed women s oppression to capitalism and focused on women s
economic exploitation, (); and radical feminists, who identified male power or patriarchy as the
source of female subordination, (). These forms of feminism developed new attitudes and goals
throughout the different waves of feminism in the past two centuries.

Our brains have the enough power to make all of the many different parts of our body function
the way it should. It can make our body do involuntary actions that constantly keep us alive and
healthy, and we don t even realize all of the things that it is capable of. As Nicolaus Steno once

And, since this experiment is about how hand eye dominance affects the hand eye coordination
used when shooting a basketball, the occipital lobe is one of the most important parts of the brain
in regards to this experiment.
Everyone knows that the typical human being has a dominant hand. The only case in which a
person does not have a dominant hand is if that person can use their right and left hand equally
well. In this case this person is ambidextrous. But, the typical human also has a dominant foot, ear,
side of the brain, and eye. (web.stanford.edu, 2014) Eye dominance, or eyedness, is the tendency to
prefer visual input from one eye to the other. This is similar to left or right handedness. For people
who have anisometropic myopia, a different amount of nearsightedness in each eye, the eye with
more myopia or nearsightedness is the dominant eye (web.stanford.edu, 2014). The easiest way
to test your eyedness is to create a small triangle with your hands, with your thumbs as the base
of the triangle and your left hand s fingers overlapping your right hand s fingers , and center it
around an object, such as a doorknob, about 5 10 feet away with both eyes open. Then, close
your left eye. If you can still see the object with your right eye opened, then your right eye is
your dominant eye. If the object moves out of your view, then close your right eye. You will most
likely see the object with your left eye, in which case your dominant eye is your left eye

Paul Tillich Systematic Theology
In volume one of Systematic Theology, Paul Tillich seeks to trace the connections between reason
and revelation, being and God. In that order, Tillich brings his understanding of God out of his
understanding of revelation. However, he does not use classical terminology or ideas to explain
them. Instead, under the influence of existentialism and phenomenology, Tillich answers the
fundamental question of theologyby analyzing the nature of being. Modern formulations oscillate
back and forth as it relates to theological loci as to which comes first: the doctrine of Godor the
doctrine of revelation or Scripture. It is an attempt to answer a similar question, Which came first?

In philosophical terms, it is the problem of the one and the many. Tillich argues that polytheism is
not quantitative element (that is, threeness) but a qualitative one (222). The issue is ultimacy over
concreteness, which, in his philosophical explanation, is quite difficult. He argues that there are
three types of polytheism (universalistic, mythological, dualistic) and in each of them the concrete
prevails over the ultimate. Therefore, each god seeks to be ultimate over other gods. In Trinitarian
monotheism, the ultimate and the concrete are unified (228). Based on this description and the
very language he uses, it seems at this point in Tillich s development, that he was uncomfortable
with monarchial elements in trinitarian theology (i.e. primacy of one over

Artificial Intelligence ( Ai )
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is portrayed in many science fiction films such as I, robot, The
Terminator, Ex Machina, etc., or novels as the future that holds evil in our society. Engineers all
over the world are currently developing and making AI a reality. I know that my major is
involved with the project intending to bring AI into reality which is interesting, but it still has
me wondering if this is a good idea. I imagine AI as the future such that we will have them at
school, in our house and even our workplace. It is a possibility that AI will be used to help
students and professors by solving critical equations faster than ever or helping them out in the
subjects they are struggling with. They can help clean around the house and neighborhood,
implement future ideas to companies, and even join the police force to stop crime. They do not
necessarily need arms, legs, or eyes to commit such actions. As a Computer Engineer, I believe
that AI will have the capability to protect and serve us, but if they are given the freedom to think
and act, then they can also harm us. I assume the engineers working with AI, will program them to
restrict actions that can harm this society and inspect them weekly to accomplish this restriction.
We should keep an open mind towards any consequences and benefits AI may bring to this world.

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese medicine has had a broad history and with it even broader applications. It has
seen use for over twenty five thousand years within China s borders and is still being used,
researched, and refined in modern times.
The concepts of traditional Chinese medicine found it s basis in the philosophy of Taoism, which
focuses on balancing the body with environment to achieve optimum health and sustainability as
opposed to treating illness by itself. The emphasis on harmony originates from the Taoism concept
of Yinyang, which is defined as by the balance between it s two basic elements where one must
contain a bit of the other, and Wu Xing which encompasses five environmental elements: Water,
Fire, Wood, Earth, and Metal. These elements are used to categorize organs in the body in order to
determine how one organ would interact with another. An example would be if a Fire heart is
overstressed or inflamed , it can be remedied by strengthening the opposing element of Water in the
body through the kidneys in order to rebalance. Each organ, while performing it s own function,
needs to be coordinating with and complementing other organs. This gave birth to the idea that
tracking the functions of organs in various states, either by themselves or with other organs, could
predict what would cause something to disrupt bodily harmony or the cause of it in the sick.
Because of the holistic nature of traditional Chinese medicine, a very comprehensive analysis of a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Seddi
6. PREPARATION OF SEDDS
Method of preparation may vary according to the dosage form of the formulation. The techniques
can be implemented accordingly to the stability, sensitivity and adaptability of the drug excipients
to self emulsified form. In olden days, SEDDS are prepared in the form of liquid state where it will
be enclosed by hard or soft gelatin capsules. By this, it helps to enhance oral administration and
later on it is known to burden in the formulation. Main disadvantages are low drug incompatibility
and stability, drugs leakage and precipitation, capsule ageing and it is very costly. Besides, addition
of large quantity of surfactants in this formulation tend to induce gastrointestinal irritations. To
overcome this problem, solid SEDDS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ii)Involves simple addition of liquid on the carriers by mixing in blender
7. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SEDDS
7.1 Advantages
As SEDDS is formulated, it carries a major advantage over delivering efficiently as it has
improved the stability of highly lipophilic drugs. The major advantages of SEDDS are:
пѓјEnhances the dissolution rate and bioavailability of hydrophobic drugs
пѓјActs as substitute for traditional oral formulation of lipophilic drugs
пѓјBetter consistent of temporal profiles of drug absorption
пѓјHelps in selective drug targeting towards a specific site in GIT
пѓјProtects drug molecule from the hostile environment of GIT
пѓјNo influence of lipid digestion process
7.2 Disadvantages
The advancement of SEDDS in the novel drug delivery system has its weakness as improvisation
is being made to rectify the flaws. However, certain unavoidable factors may divert the invention
process which wholly depends on the environmental factor of the GIT. Disadvantages of SEDDS
are:
пѓјPresence of high surfactant concentrations increases chances of instabilities of drugs
пѓјHigh content of surfactants irritates the GI

The Mobile Food Bank Delivery Service
The Mobile Food Bank delivery service serves as an 8 month pilot project and may possibly
satisfy the needs of people with mobility issues. As stated earlier, this project also aims to deliver
to approximately 50 households bi weekly in Halifax. Ultimately, this project hopes to improve
food security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident and visible barriers that exist, amongst
these are finding the financial support for this project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the
project.
Since this 8 month project is a non profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather to give
food to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food Establishment Permit
(Nova Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to organize any fundraisers prior to
the start of the project, which includes food booths or mobile canteens that involves selling food at
temporary events, it is then necessary that the project committee applies for a Temporary Event
Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015).
In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available. However, grants
do not provide a guaranteed source of income. Applying for grants is an arduous task, which would
fall under the responsibilities of the project employee, and the start of the project would be
dependent on the employee s ability to secure the finances.

Lieutenant Dunbar In Dances With Wolves
There are many christ figures found in literature and in movies today, a christ figure that stood
out to me is Lieutenant Dunbar in Dances with Wolves. Dunbar is a soldier in the U.S Army
during the civil war, he shows many of the key features that a christ figure needs to have. In the
beginning of the movie his foot was injured and needed to be amputated so he resorted to trying
to commit suicide by riding a horse across a battlefield. While riding across, he rides with his
arms outstretched looking up into the sky, somehow he doesn t get shot and this results in the
Union army storming the Confederate soldiers. Dunbar is then made a hero and is transferred to a
fort in South Dakota. When he arrives at the fort it is abandoned so he decides

The Importance Of Short-Term Memory And Long-Term Memory
If you witnessed a crime, and you were called by the court to deliver an eyewitness testimony,
could you? Research has been done to test the accuracy of eyewitness testimonies. My experiment
is to see how accurate you can remember something from a while ago (about 5 minutes). I m also
testing the power of suggestion, and how easy it is to change someone s mind. The volunteers will
have ranging ages from 9 all the way to about 60. Short term memory(STM) and long term
memory (LTM) have a big effect on eyewitness accuracy. If a person doesn t have a good long
term memory then they are most likely to forget the important information, and not give accurate
descriptions. The three different types of short term memory are limited capacity, limited
duration, and encoding. Limited capacity simply means that you can only hold about seven items
at a time. Limited duration means that information can be lost with a simple distraction, or it can
fade away as time goes on. Encoding is mostly acoustic, meaning that you can take visuals and
turn them into audios so it s easier to remember. 7 is a common number to use for short term
memory. You can add or subtract to and that will usually give you the right range. Long term
memory holds information that your sensory and short term memory couldn t. Your long term
memory doesn t have a certain capacity. It can hold as much as it can and however long it can.
The long term memory could be like your first words, or your first best friends, a

ABSTRACT Glycine betaine is a compatible organic metabolite which is synthesized and
accumulated in pulses, cereals, grasses and many microbes in response to different types of stress.
It has been shown to exhibit enhanced tolerance of plants to salt stress. In this investigation we
examined the effects of salt stress and synthesis of glycine betaine on leaf protease activity in
Lucerne plants. Sodium chloride stress was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The present work, therefore, was conducted to evaluate the role of glycine betaine in protecting the
proteins inleucerne plants through protease enzyme activity from being damaged by salt stress. On
the basis of our results we discuss the response of leucerne plants to salt stress and glycine betaine.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Purification of Protease The leucerne plant leaves are procured from 70 days old plants and
allowed to stand for two days in a humidity controlled dark growth chamber at 340C. The leaves
were homogenized with 0.1M phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) containing 0.4M sucrose and 0.05M
sodium ascorbate in a waring blender. Filtered homogenate was (I in Table 1) was squeezed
through a gauze and centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 20 mins. The supernatant (II in Table 1) was
adjusted to pH 5.0 by the addition of 1N acetic acid and allowed to stand overnight. The precipitate
was removed by centrifugation and the supernatant (III in Table 1) was subjected to ammonium
sulphate fractionation between 0.25 and 0.9 saturation. The ammonium sulphate precipitate was
suspended in 0.0025M Mc llvain buffer (pH 5.5) containing 2.5 Г— 10 3 M sodium ascorbate and
dialyzed against the same buffer at 40C for 20 hrs. The dialysate (IV in Table 1) was centrifuged
and the supernatant was fractionated by the addition of ethanol at 50C. A fraction precipitating
between 20 and 60% ethanol was collected and dialyzed in the same way.

  • 2. Dn Dna And Dna Question 1 a) DNA replication is the process in which a cell passes this DNA sequence onto other cells when it divides which is known as mitosis as it must duplicate its genome so each new cell has a copy. This occurs during interphase. During DNA replication the enzyme DNA helicase are important as they separate double stranded DNA into single strands allowing each strand to be copied. DNA polymerase are another important enzyme that starts attaching new complementary nucleotides to these templates. It is done according to the base pairing rules, A=T, C=G, G=C and T=A. Once the new nucleotides are attached, two new sister DNA strands are formed same as the original strand. The result is two identical strands, each of which is half new. b) mRNA is a translation of DNA into a convertible protein substituting T with U. The template strand shown is the 1st step of transcription and it is transcribed to: GTA GAT TGG GGT CTC CTC. Each of the codons codes for a particular amino acid. For example, each codon is a triplet and codes for one amino acid. In the strand shown it separates it into triplets that will reveal codon and amino acid number. For example, CAT CTA ACC CCA GAG GAG = 6 amino acids. c) Sickle cell anaemia GTA GAT TGG GGT CAC CTC Normal haemoglobin GTA GAT TGG GGT CTC CTC While comparing the difference between the normal and sickle cell strands, it was identified that in the sickle cell there is a coding error. Diana Nyad Research Paper Diana Nyad is well known for swimming from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage; her experience can teach others to see the world and themselves in a whole new perspective. Although she accomplished her goal, it took Nyad a total of five attempts in order to successfully swim from Cuba to Florida. Her fifth and final attempt to make this journey took her approximately fifty three hours. The distance was over 110 miles, which broke the world record for the distance swam without the protection of a shark cage. Even though Nyad went through hard times during her expedition, she never gave up on herself. Her experience plays a large role in not only how people see the world, but the way they see themselves too. The hard times that Nyad encountered during the swim only made her stronger. That s success (Viti). Nyad is beyond proud of her accomplishment of swimming from Cuba to Florida, however she mentions that in some way, everything is a team effort. The causation of the sinking has been debated heavily since the crash in 1912 and many so called experts of the titanic disagree with another on this issue. There has been new development when the ship was discovered in 1985 and examined by experts. Leading people that the sinking was caused by three major turning points. The first being the failures of White Star Linewho manufacture the ship starting in 1909. The second being the crew of the ship that had some very serve flaws in the plan of action leading up to the disaster. Lastly the passengers who had enough time to prepare before the... Another controversial topic is whether or not the titanic tried to beat a cross Atlantic speed record. When the ship first left Belfast ,promises were made that it wouldn t try to beat any record, but the ship s captain was urged to go full speed since they had left the dock leading many to believe that they were indeed trying to beat a record. At a first dinner on the night of the sinking Mr. Ismay was seen in a confident mood telling first class passengers that the Titanic was going to beat a record. This speed made the Titanic harder to slow down when coming up to the iceberg fields which cause the ship to hit harder against the ice causing more damage. The next key piece is the crew members who didn t take enough steps to help prevent the crash. The first one is John Phillips who was the transmission officer on the Titanic. (San Joaquin County Human Resources Division, 2002) Г The mirroring effect is when supervisors favor employees that remind them of themselves and have difficulty assessing and valuing the differences others bring to the workplace. (San Joaquin County Human Resources Division, 2002) The following solutions are what I am proposing to eliminate or reduce these problems: Г On the halo effect, produce continuous documentation over the duration of the evaluation, which will assist supervisors in writing the employee s evaluation. Г On comparing employees, write their evaluations at different times, which will give the supervisor time to center on one employee at a time. Г For the central tendency effect, supervisors need to identify problem areas with identifiable solutions and the leadership to resolve these problem areas. By providing information that is constructive, the supervisor is helping the person become an improved person. Г On the pitchfork effect, supervisors need to remember that they are evaluating the employee for the entire time frame indicated on the evaluation. Constant records of performance, helps the supervisor stay away from focusing on a particular event. Г For the labeling effect, supervisors need to be aware of their insights and preconceived ... Interdisciplinary Understanding/Solution In studying the problem of hydrilla Florida waterways, it was apparent that management of this invasive species must take an interdisciplinary approach. The economic indicators with the possibility of lost revenue, water usage, and habitat biodiversity drive the need for control. According to Corn, at the federal level there is a need for comprehensive legislature to address invasive species. The current process in reporting an invasive species problem can run into time constraints working through the many agencies to achieve funding. A rapid response is desired to quickly remove the plant before it spreads beyond the ability to control. The initial time estimated to complete this project is four years. 2.Usage of sugarcane bagasse ash as a replacement to Portland cement in concrete The target economic sectors of the proposed research are the sugar industry and the construction industry. The sugar industry will be directly affected, since the main goal of this research project is to develop a sugarcane bagasse ash based product that can be used as an additive for concrete mixes. Due to the known properties and chemical composition of sugarcane bagasse, it is expected that this new product will be competitive with fly ash in terms of improving the properties of concrete mixes. The newly added economic value of bagasse ash may also make it economically advantageous to burning the entire stock of bagasse fiber for electricity production beyond the needs of the sugar mills. The local construction industry will be indirectly affected by the availability of an additive for concrete production with a lower cost and similar properties to fly ash. This new bagasse ash based product is expected to reduce the construction costs of projects requiring large amounts of concrete (e.g., foundations, concrete bridges), thus, leading to a potential increase in the number of construction projects per year. The results of this research will have a significant impact on the economic development of US regions where the sugar industry is present, such as Florida, Texas, and Hawaii ... • 27. Reconstruction Of The American Civil War Minkyo Seo May 26, 2016 Reconstruction As the American Civil War came to a close, the United States started to revamp the country, during what became known as the Reconstruction Era. Throughout this Period of time (1865 1877), the authorities attempted to fix America politically, economically, and physically. The United States unfortunately faced struggles, when people were evidently unable to adapt themselves to the era. As a result of bringing an attempt to come back from the defeat, the result was insufficient. This clearly shows that the Reconstruction Era was certainly not a success because the changes created by the government failed to make positive changes to society. There were numerous of conflicts in The Civil War and Problems the Nation was Faced with that led up to the reconstruction. One of the origins of the war was Sectionalism. Sectionalism is the devotion to the interests of one geographic region over interests of the country in whole. This ultimately led to the union s worst crisis; Civil War between the North and the South in the early 1860s (Cornfield). Though she never mentioned it, my mother was an active feminist. I grew up playing with toys considered to belong to either sex. I was taught to be strong and to let my emotions out, and I was given freedom to make my own identity. This was my first experience of social feminism, followed years later by learning the definition of feminism and learning to also see discrimination politically and economically. Later, in high school, I met my significant other. She grew up in a family of engaged feminists. One day she asked me whether I considered myself feminist. At this point, I had never thought much of it, so I said No. She taught me exactly what it meant to be feminist, not the man hating, hateful person, but the caring, thoughtful person who stands up for equality amongst sexes, genders, and races. After that, I have always considered myself a feminist. Earlier this year I decided to take the Introduction to Women s Gender and Ethnic studies class during my first semester of college. After studying the first unit of the class, I learned about different feminisms. I now know about liberal feminists, who campaigned for equal rights of citizenship and for the end of discrimination, (); socialist feminists, who attributed women s oppression to capitalism and focused on women s economic exploitation, (); and radical feminists, who identified male power or patriarchy as the source of female subordination, (). These forms of feminism developed new attitudes and goals throughout the different waves of feminism in the past two centuries. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Nicolaus Steno once said, The brain, the masterpiece of creation, is almost unknown to us (web.stanford.edu, 2014). In this case this person is ambidextrous. But, the typical human also has a dominant foot, ear, side of the brain, and eye. (web.stanford.edu, 2014) Eye dominance, or eyedness, is the tendency to prefer visual input from one eye to the other. This is similar to left or right handedness. For people who have anisometropic myopia, a different amount of nearsightedness in each eye, the eye with more myopia or nearsightedness is the dominant eye (web.stanford.edu, 2014). The easiest way to test your eyedness is to create a small triangle with your hands, with your thumbs as the base of the triangle and your left hand s fingers overlapping your right hand s fingers , and center it around an object, such as a doorknob, about 5 10 feet away with both eyes open. Then, close your left eye. If you can still see the object with your right eye opened, then your right eye is your dominant eye. If the object moves out of your view, then close your right eye. In that order, Tillich brings his understanding of God out of his understanding of revelation. However, he does not use classical terminology or ideas to explain them. Instead, under the influence of existentialism and phenomenology, Tillich answers the fundamental question of theologyby analyzing the nature of being. Modern formulations oscillate back and forth as it relates to theological loci as to which comes first: the doctrine of Godor the doctrine of revelation or Scripture. He argues that there are three types of polytheism (universalistic, mythological, dualistic) and in each of them the concrete prevails over the ultimate. Therefore, each god seeks to be ultimate over other gods. In Trinitarian monotheism, the ultimate and the concrete are unified (228). Artificial Intelligence ( Ai ) Artificial Intelligence (AI) is portrayed in many science fiction films such as I, robot, The Terminator, Ex Machina, etc., or novels as the future that holds evil in our society. Engineers all over the world are currently developing and making AI a reality. I know that my major is involved with the project intending to bring AI into reality which is interesting, but it still has me wondering if this is a good idea. I imagine AI as the future such that we will have them at school, in our house and even our workplace. It is a possibility that AI will be used to help students and professors by solving critical equations faster than ever or helping them out in the subjects they are struggling with. They can help clean around the house and neighborhood, implement future ideas to companies, and even join the police force to stop crime. • 38. Traditional Chinese Medicine Traditional Chinese medicine has had a broad history and with it even broader applications. It has seen use for over twenty five thousand years within China s borders and is still being used, researched, and refined in modern times. The concepts of traditional Chinese medicine found it s basis in the philosophy of Taoism, which focuses on balancing the body with environment to achieve optimum health and sustainability as opposed to treating illness by itself. The emphasis on harmony originates from the Taoism concept of Yinyang, which is defined as by the balance between it s two basic elements where one must contain a bit of the other, and Wu Xing which encompasses five environmental elements: Water, Fire, Wood, Earth, and Metal. These elements are used to categorize organs in the body in order to determine how one organ would interact with another. An example would be if a Fire heart is overstressed or inflamed , it can be remedied by strengthening the opposing element of Water in the body through the kidneys in order to rebalance. Each organ, while performing it s own function, needs to be coordinating with and complementing other organs. This gave birth to the idea that tracking the functions of organs in various states, either by themselves or with other organs, could predict what would cause something to disrupt bodily harmony or the cause of it in the sick. As stated earlier, this project also aims to deliver to approximately 50 households bi weekly in Halifax. Ultimately, this project hopes to improve food security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident and visible barriers that exist, amongst these are finding the financial support for this project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the project. Since this 8 month project is a non profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather to give food to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food Establishment Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to organize any fundraisers prior to the start of the project, which includes food booths or mobile canteens that involves selling food at temporary events, it is then necessary that the project committee applies for a Temporary Event Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available. However, grants do not provide a guaranteed source of income. I m also testing the power of suggestion, and how easy it is to change someone s mind. The volunteers will have ranging ages from 9 all the way to about 60. Short term memory(STM) and long term memory (LTM) have a big effect on eyewitness accuracy. If a person doesn t have a good long term memory then they are most likely to forget the important information, and not give accurate descriptions. The three different types of short term memory are limited capacity, limited duration, and encoding. Limited capacity simply means that you can only hold about seven items at a time. Limited duration means that information can be lost with a simple distraction, or it can fade away as time goes on. Encoding is mostly acoustic, meaning that you can take visuals and turn them into audios so it s easier to remember. 7 is a common number to use for short term memory. You can add or subtract to and that will usually give you the right range. Long term memory holds information that your sensory and short term memory couldn t.
