How Did Mikhail Gorbachev Transform The Soviet Union
Mikhail Gorbachev
Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev was born March 2, 1931 as the son of Russian peasants in Stavropol
territory in southwestern Russia. Fifteen years later in 1946 when he was fifteen years old he joined to
Komsomol which was the young communist league and for the next four years he drove a combine
harvester at a state farm in Stavropol. Six years later he entered Moscow State Universities law school
and became a member of the Communist Party.
Mikhail Gorbachev was a Soviet official, the secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union
(CPSU) from 1985 to 1991, and he was also a Soviet Union president in 1990 1991. His plans for
democratizing his country s political system and to decentralize the economy as well, led to the
downfall of communism and the Soviet Union s breakup in 1991. In 1990 he was awarded the Nobel
Prize for Peace in part because he had ended the Soviet Union s postwar domination of eastern
Europe.
Gorbachev s efforts to transform the Soviet Union in the 1980 s started by him implementing policies
that would bring about individual freedom, bureaucratic transparency. His efforts in order ... Show

Those same people in the Soviet Union that were at home were also preventing the Soviet Union from
having diplomatic relations with many other countries. This all changed though after Gorbachev had
introduced the Glasnost s policies. After introducing those policies many other countries such as the

The Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg
In the 1450s, a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, which
revolutionized the world of publishing (The Printing Press, 2005). Since then, hundreds of word
processing programs have been developed, along with thousands of new fonts, from Times New
Roman to Comic Sans. Marketing professionals and scientists around the world have wondered what
kinds of fonts stick in a person s memory over others (Dizikes, 2013). The concepts of how memory
functions, how the brain processes information and how font and memory are connected in
psychology are essential to better understand this idea. The nervous system consists of three main
sections, the central nervous system (CNS), the peripheral nervous system (PNS), and ... Show more

The short term memories are stored in the hippocampus, the long term are stored in the cerebral
cortex, and the flashbulb memories are stored in a special part of the cerebral cortex called the
amygdala (Young 2010; Hamzelou, 2011). Short term memory can hold seven items of information
for fifteen to twenty seconds. Information that was received verbally and information that was
received visually are kept in different places in short term memory. To make the most of the limits of
short term memory, the brain chunks two to three facts into one unit of information. Long term
memory, however, is stored by significance and meaning rather than the sequence in which they were
received. The two kinds of long term memory are implicit and explicit memories. Implicit memories
are unconsciously remembered, like how to open doors. Explicit memories are consciously
remembered. There are three types of explicit memory: episodic, semantic, and declarative.
Episodic memories are memories of events that took place, like a memory of attending a party.
Semantic memories are facts, figures, and general knowledge, like the capital of France. Declarative
memories are of people, places, and things, such as names and faces (Foster, 2011; Greenberg, 1987;
Fields, 2005).
Both long term and short term memories travel between neurons, as does any memory. The structure
that enables a connection between the neurons is called a synapse. Short term memory has temporary
synapse strengthening and

The Incredible Hulk Essay
16) The Incredible Hulk
The reason this film is at the bottom of the list might not be entirely its fault. Marvel Studios at the
time was still not exactly sure where they were going and how Bruce Banner would play into the
future of the MCU. However, this movie is not Marvel s best work. Edward Norton was mediocre,
there is no denying that Mark Ruffalo is a much better, well rounded Bruce Banner. The climax is a bit
of a yawn, but the action scenes are decent. I could care less for the Bruce/Betty dynamic, plus Betty
was kind of a nuisance who got in the way. The CGI was cringeworthy, the Hulk looks borderline
cartoonish. Despite all this, it s an average Hulk origin story, even though it is a bit less than
satisfactory compared to other MCU films.
15) Iron Man 2
Following an amazing film like Iron Man is a hard task, and Iron Man 2 did not meet expectations.
The movie was trying to cover too much content, and at the same time trying to bring the fun, quick
wittedness of its predecessor. At this time, Marvel was trying to figure out where they wanted these
films to go, and their confusion showed through in this film. However, we did get our introduction to

Much of this had to do with the addition of Loki, of course, because what is Thor without Loki?
Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for Jane, who seemed to have run her course enough in the first
film, having nothing left to do in this one but be a host for a parasitic infinity stone. Thor had a huge
character arc in the first film, and he kept that good character in this one. This installment has a cool,
realm jumping end fight scene, as well as many witty quips, mostly from Darcy and Loki. Soren

Ultraviolet Portrays Damage The DNA Of Skin Cells
Ultraviolet rays damage the DNA of skin cells in human bodies. Sunlight is the main source of UV
rays. The purpose of sunblock is to protect your skin from Ultraviolet rays that are caused by the sun.
This can be very important because it can cause someone to get hurt by the rays of the sun or anything
that has a lot of heat to it. For example, if you live in an area with a bright sun all the time, you have a
higher risk of skin cancer. This is because the more sun it is the more you are going to be outside in
the sun, so too much sun can cause you to have black spots or sunburn, etc. on your body, which is too
much exposure.
Examples of Ultraviolet rays are Tanning Beds, Sunlight, Heater, Oven, Salon, Cremation etc. Did you

Essay Finding Meaning in The Turn of The Screw, by Henry...
At first glance, Bly appears to be a rather lonely place. The vividly bleak backdrop for The Turn of the
Screw houses a handful of servants, two orphaned children, and ghosts who fade in and out of view.
But there are others present who are less obtrusive yet just as influential as Peter Quint and Miss
Jessel. Peering into and out of Bly s windows and mirrors, engaging with the text and the lingering
trace of author Henry James, a crowd of real and virtual readers hope to catch a glimpse of a specter or
to unravel a clever Freudian slipknot that will tell them something: They may be looking for that
which they think James intended as the text s truth a transcendental center or maybe they
subconsciously wish to see a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lustig asserts that James s story uses its blanks to undermine all attempts to establish relations and to
join references into a coherent pattern (255). This coherent pattern is what the New Critics believe a
text s essential organizing principle to be, and that it is present in the text whether a reader notices it or
not. For formalists, a text s essential effect lies in the text alone and is completely independent of a
reader s response to elements that create effect in him. Likewise, Lustig s precise analysis of form and
subsequent deconstructionist reading of The Turn of the Screw does not mention what a possible
reader s process might be when faced with the twists of Bly. But for whom is the effect valuable, if not
the reader?
As Iser explains in The Reading Process, readers situate themselves within their responses, in effect
awakening [the] responses within himself (51). He further argues that if a reader were given the whole
story...his imagination would never enter the field, and yield nothing but boredom (51). To Iser, the
life of the text depends on a reader s participation in formulating his own response. More importantly,
Iser touts the unwritten parts, (gaps and ambiguities) of a text to stimulate the imagination, a process
that animates these outlines, and in turn...influence the effect of the written part... (50 51). Iser and
other phenomenological reader response critics depend utterly upon the reader

environment through the customers, competitors and distributors, the macro environment through
technological, economical, social, political and environmental forces and finally the internal

Apple has already sold more than 39 million iPods in 2006, thus the company can count on its existing
customers for the iPhone. The other potential customers for this product can also be: the people
interested by technology or technophobes, middle and high class segments who are willing to pay
more for a better user experience, professionals in media and design and finally young people who are
interested by the image reflected by the product.
Competitors
With the iPhone, unlike the iPod, Apple is not creating a new market it is muscling the mobile market
(BBC). In fact in the UK, more than 80% of the households have already a mobile phone; however the
mobile market is changing so the customers are not only buying a mobile phone for its functionality
but also for the other features that it can provide such as the design for example. Since, there is an
established market; there will be two main types of competition: one against the distributor and
another one against the product.
The competition against the distributor is particularly important in this case as there is only one
company distributing it in the UK: O2. One of the rapid reactions to the launch of the iPhone; is by
Vodafone who has created a service called Music Station to be launched for Christmas and which will
give unlimited access to its customers to more than 1 million music tracks.
Concerning the competition against the iPhone itself, there are already mobile phones in the market
that provide

The Matilda Effect
As writer, Virginia Woolf, once said, for most of history, anonymous was a woman. Elizabeth Gould
Davis pointed out in one of her books, that women take as great a risk of anonymity when they merge
their names with men in literary collaboration as when they merge in matrimony. According to
psychologist Steve Biko, the first weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Women s
history evaporates because our culture has a stake in erasing women from history and denying that
their participation or leadership ever existed.
The controversy surrounding women s involvement in science is great, and there have been countless
instances in history of women s discoveries and breakthroughs being credited to a man. So many
times, in fact, that there is a term specifically for this occurrence. Known as the Matilda effect , named
after women s rights activist Matilda Joslyn Gage, it refers to the process of the suppression of women
s contribution to science in regards to incorrect accreditation to a male counterpart for a woman s
research. It has seen a woman s scientific findings appropriated and Nobel Prizes awarded to male
colleagues and supervisors. Not only is this clearly unfair on every conceivable level, it highlights the

The Passage of Time and Life in The Swimmer, by John Cheever
Having written a multitude of short stories and novels, author, John Cheever, has showcased his
incredible writing abilities multiple times throughout his career. Even as a child, Cheever outwardly
expressed his desire to write. As proven by his longstanding career, Cheever s thirst for writing
remained with him throughout his entire life. In perhaps his most famous piece of work, The
Swimmer, Cheever s impeccable writing ability is showcased brilliantly. Although originally set out to
be a novel, The Swimmer has grown to become a widely recognized and analyzed short story, one
which both readers and literary critics alike admire. By drawing on his personal life and by using a
wide range of writing techniques, Cheever depicts and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is this structure precisely that gives Cheever s works the power to resonate with a wide range of
individuals. Author of John Cheever s Flowering Forth: The Breakthroughs of 1947, James O Hara,
discusses this aspect of Cheever s writing in his academic journal:
He had continued to experiment with the choice of materials for his stories, and had gradually won
over editors with a combination of solid structural technique he had always known how to put a story
together and Hemingwayesque understatement. (51)
Although O Hara did not specifically address the short story The Swimmer in this particular excerpt,
this quotation is nonetheless viable and true in its claims.
Along with a solid structure, in order for a piece of fiction to resonate with readers, the work also has
to have meaningful characters. Cheever has proven to excel in this aspect of writing as well. This
excellence can also be attributed to Cheever and his personal life. Bloom writes: Just like his
characters, then, Cheever was not a perfect man, yet he was a decent one, who believed in heroism
and sentiment and family and a minor man s capacity to glory. Neddy Merrill, the main character in
The Swimmer, can be described in a similar manner, for he too is an imperfect man who seeks glory
and purpose. In the same vein, literary analyst, Robert A. Morace, states: The characters in this and
other Cheever fictions all face the same

changes that will be made with the data entry process. By gaining the hospital administrators consent
with the changes this will allow a smoother transition for the data entry change and it could provide a
positive change to the workplace. As for the changes to the data entry it would most likely be a simple
computer process along with small piece of paperwork. It would be best to have some sort or paper
record on file that would need to be alphabetized along with a simple computer program. The
computer program would help ensure accuracy and would have the patient s data record on file which
will be easy to locate. There would be very little paper work for the process mainly because it takes up
space and takes more time to record. The paper work that is part of the process would simply serve as
a backup if the computers were down. The key to ensuring accuracy with the data entry is to make the
process as simple as possible so it would minimize the errors.

What Is My Favorite Season Of Autumn
Bare Branches
When autumn begins the atmosphere is different, the air is crisp and the ground is crunchy with
leaves. There s a heavy light that falls over the earth, red and orange light hit the hilltops just perfectly
at sunset. The beauty in autumn is one I will never get over, the memories it brings when I feel the
cold air hit my skin is all worth the leaves falling and showing their bare branches. Autumn is my
favorite season because of the weather, the beauty it has, and the comfort it brings to me.
Finally getting relief from the hot summer sun is one of my favorite reasons why I adore autumn. I m
always anxious waiting for the day I can shut off my air conditioner and open a window to reveal the
sweat breeze. The neutral temperature is perfect for outdoor activities. Like grilling for a BBQ, taking
a long walk or hike, or playing some games outside. Breathing in the natural air always feels amazing,
it makes it easier. Sweating is not ideal, so when its autumn and the hot weather is finally gone I feel a
sense of relief that I m not drenched from head to toe.

Race Based Slavery
Throughout the 18TH century, the South became very reliant on slaves for their main source of labor.
Many considered the act as a misfortune dictated by God and that Africans and Indians were naturally
lazy, stupid, and treacherous. As the spread of slavery began to grow, the laws regulating race based
slavery also grew. By the 1660s, legislatures began to legalize the activity and created slave codes to
manage their lives. During war, race based slavery was very common throughout both sides captives.
Although Europeans did hold other Europeans captive, they were never enslaved, unlike the Native
Americans and Africans. The color of the prisoner was a vital characteristic that was used to decide
their future during combat. For the next few centuries, slaves were sold, traded, and kidnapped
between slave owners. Slavery eventually became one of the leading causes of America s bloody Civil
War, impacting the

The Education System Of The American School System
Against School
In a progressively more globalized world that necessitates more effective educational practices, the
U.S., once the biggest global force in education, has seen its dominance slowly slip out, and its
educational status fall even lower than that of several third world countries. The decline experienced
in American school system academic achievement is not as a result of lack of funding, but as a
consequence of the overall educational system watering down. According to Gatto, educating children
through the existing public school system of America is crippling rather than helping them. From his
essay, Against School, it is established that the goal of the whole public school system is to limit
people s intelligence in an attempt to create a society that is manageable. Gatto continues to state that
action is needed to change this situation. He supports his assertions using current and historical
information about the American school system and his personal experience. After reading his article,
one realizes that most of Gatto s arguments are true. It is true that the American education system is
making the students comfort to the government and society norms, which is why they are easily bored.
This essay s goal will, therefore, be to support John Gatto s beliefs.
To begin with, Gatto utilizes historical information to question the need for getting an education using
the American public school system. Past occurrences show that people do not need an education

The Safety Practices Of Motorcycle Accidents
Imagine the ripple effect created by losing a fellow service member, friend, or loved one due to a
motorcycle accident. Senior enlisted leaders should understand the significance of motorcycle
accidents because they have a large impact on all branches of the U.S. military. This paper will cover
the problem motorcycle accidents present to the military, discuss some of the safety practices currently
in place to reduce deaths related to motorcycle accidents, and make recommendations to help reduce
motorcycle accident deaths.
Problem
Motorcycle related deaths have a large impact on the U.S. military. The loss of a friend or loved one is
already significant, but the loss of a military member carries with it the loss of training, knowledge,
and manning to that community and branch of the military. It spans the entire service as shown when
the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) performed a burial at sea for the late Master Chief Sutton, who passed
away due to a motorcycle accident while stationed on board (Peak, 2016).
Motor vehicle accidents account for one third of the deaths among the U.S. military annually. From
1999 to 2012, there were 4,479 motor vehicle accident related deaths among members of the military,
with 25 percent attributable to motorcycle accidents (Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch,
2013). Over that period, non motorcycle motor vehicle accidents declined while motorcycle related
accidents steadily increased, accounting for a higher percentage of deaths in motor

whether auditors should be blame when they failing to warn investors to ailing firms financial

Sound Waves Allow Us to Hear
Have you ever sat down and wondered why you can hear things? How sounds form? What are the
different components? This all happens because of sound waves. Sound Waves are disturbances that
go from one place to another in a medium. An example of this could be a Slinky. when it is all
stretched out the slinky would be at equilibrium. Then a particle in the slinky moves in any direction
and makes a disturbance. A pulse allows you to see the disturbance that is happening from both ends
of the slinky . when a pulse is repeated continuously through the slinky then it is a wave. A medium is
where the wave is carried and held from one end to the other. it only transports the wave, it does not
make it The medium plays the role of the slinky in the example from the above paragraph. Mediums
can be different depending on the location. For example the ocean water would be the medium of the
wave is traveling in the water, the medium is the air if it is a sound wave. The only reason
disturbances can get through the medium is because there are parts in the medium that interact with
each other. Going back to the slinky example, the coils are the interacting parts of it. And in air the
molecules are the interacting pairs. the medium is full of connected particles that go moving each
other. The particles in the medium are not always moving, they go back to their normal equilibrium
position because they have a constant force on them that makes them do that. Waves are not matter ,

Comparing The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
How culture affects our views Today s culture changes how we behave and act. The Lone Ranger and
Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings are excellent examples of this.
For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re making
people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Like the narrator in The Lone
Ranger both stores how someone s culture affects the way they act and think. Our culture changes how
we behave and react to everyday events. I will start by going through each story giving and explaining
examples and how they are related. The first short story I m going to talk about is The Lone Ranger
and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The first example of this is when the narrator is stopped by the police
and they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie).
Right after this the narrator is talking about how he is unable to fit into anywhere because of how the
culture views native Americans. This is an excellent example of how the culture around the narrator
has changed how he thinks about others within his culture. Another interesting event in The Lone

The Consequences Of Domestic Violence
Abstract: Domestic violence is something that is overlooked in many aspects. While reading my paper
you will learn about different types of domestic violence. How every type is different than the other.
Each type hurts not only the victim, but everybody in the abuser and the victim s lives. Children are
usually the witnesses in these situations and tend to be caught in the middle. You will learn how this
affects them now and how it affects them later in life. There are also many reasons that someone turns
to domestic violence, and all of those topics will be discussed. Finally, you will learn about the
treatments available and all the ways to get help. After reading this paper I hope that you will be a
little more informed on the consequences of domestic violence. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have
been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime
(Statistics). Domestic violence is one of the things that I think we as people don t take as serious as
other things. Reading that statistic was painfully chilling, and the scariest part is how much of it goes
unnoticed. My favorite part of the statistic was the part where it tells you how many men have been a
victim of this kind of violence, because factually that is something that is always overlooked.
Domestic violence isn t something that should be taken lightly and it definitely shouldn t be something
that is brushed off your shoulders if it happens to you and/or if it s happened

Bateman Consumer Culture
Harron further depicts her version of 1980 s consumer culture by emphasizing the depth at which
materialism has invaded the minds of the all characters. The epitome of self absorption is Bateman
himself, and foreboding quality when combined with his lack of morality and aggressive tendencies.
Harron makes use of narration in order to introduce Bateman to the audience, something she employs
at the very start of the movie. After detailing his morning routine Bateman narrates that there is an
idea of a Patrick Bateman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me. Only an entity, something

It is through his narrations that the audience is shown the extent at which Belfort revels in his own
excessive debauchery. Towards the beginning of the film Belfort asserts that money doesn t just buy
you a better life, better food, better cars, better pussy, it also makes you a better person. You can give
generously to the church or political party of your choice. You can save the fucking spotted owls if
you want. I always wanted to be rich (Scorsese 4:20). Belfort s primary drive is to have more material
things in his possession, and this includes his wife and his children, because he believes that it will
make his life better and more fulfilling. But despite all of his debauchery, lies, and manipulation that
he executes in order to acquire more things, Jordan Belfort ultimately goes unpunished. Sure, he
spends a brief period of time in jail, but he ultimately never feels any psychological remorse for his
actions, in fact, in the last scene of the movie, he is teaching a gathering of willing pupils how to
become an amazing salesman like him(Scorsese 2:51:37). As one writer comments, he makes no
efforts to explain or justify his actions. On the contrary, he trusts that, vicariously at least, we are glad
to participate in the deception and debauchery. I want them to live like me, he says of his savages, and
for three hours, that includes us (Rollert).

The Negative Culture In Deborah Tannen s The Argument Culture
Words are powerful, and they are one of the primary ways we use to create perspective on our reality.
The impact a single phrase or sentence can hold, could change millions of those around us, or even in
ourselves. In this case, why do we as a whole, use words to damage and bring ruin upon our
civilization that we so pride ourselves in? The notorious act of arguing seems to be the downfall of
man in the most prevailing of ways, which is captured delicately in Deborah Tannen s novel The
Argument Culture. The Argument Culture directly divulges into the mysteries behind America s

This is a highly inefficient way of handling a conflict, yet it is the first we use to decide important
power holding figures in our government or the college student who gets the scholarship that could
change their life for the better. The lack of a proper base can also cause media and news reporters to
create or find another opposing view to create conflict as to make their own article a more interesting

explains that even with numerous evidence and facts to prove that this horrendous event did conspire,
even living witnesses, the news and media still give attention to these ludicrous statements as to gather
a rise of emotion out of the reader or viewer. This argument culture limits known knowledge, like the

Adam Smith And Karl Marx
In his book Born in Blood Fire, John Chasteen defines Progress as any transformation that made Latin
America similar to European and US models, resulting in human improvement. These transformations
included the application of advanced technology, new political aspects, and economic growth.
Neocolonialism was born from Progress, which can be explained as the influence foreign countries
had on Latin America s colonization. There was, however, different views on which way Progress
should be achieved Latin America. Adam Smith and Karl Marx are examples of the main two views.
Adam Smith, a Scottish Philosopher, was a critique of controlled markets and supported the idea that
consumers should be able to engage in a free market in order to achieve overall self profit. As a
believer in capitalism, Smith also viewed private property and overall self interest as positives.
Implementing these ideas without the interference of the government, Smith believed, led to unlimited
wealth and the most desirable economic outcome. Karl Marx, on the contrary, believed that poor
people suffered for the benefit of the higher social class. Co author of the famous document, The
Communist Manifesto, Marx supported communism, the abortion of distinguished social classes, and
developed into one of the widely known critics of capitalism; Marx believe that the idea of capitalism
gave an advantage to the people who were already rich and gave no opportunity for the working class

Evidence of needed policy:
Evidence showed that only 12% of Americans are able to demonstrate an adequate level of health
literacy, resulting an additional $73 billion health care cost annually because of more medication,
more hospital visits, longer hospital stay, and unable to acquire necessary health services due to lack
of needed skills (Egbert Nanna, 2009). Another reason for needing the policy is to support and fulfill
the Healthy People 2020 national goal of improving health communication, and interaction between
care providers and patients, and improve shared decision making (Koh, Brach, Harris, Parchman,
2013). More than 23 million Americans have limited English proficiency resulting in low level of
health literacy; similarly, average Americans only have capability of reading 5th grade level, therefore,
we strongly need a policy that establishes the information and communication system as simple,
attractive, and relevant in order to effectively educate patients (Center for Health Care Strategies

The Four Core Beliefs Of Derek Jeter
When you start your education at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy(SMSA) you are taught and
are expected to follow the four core beliefs that shape our school and its environment. The four core
beliefs are discipline, respect, dedication, and responsibility or how most students know it as D.R.D.R.
However, SMSA students are not the only ones that abide by these rules and beliefs. A well known
athlete that is a great example of this is the New York Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter. According to
Jeter, his success did not come overnight. His biography displays all the hard work he went through to
become the best and he started just at the age of eight with a goal of becoming a shortstop for the New
York Yankees. Jeter inspires others to set their goals above and beyond, and if you work hard or
believe in yourself that you can achieve anything you want.
Discipline is just one of the four core beliefs and it means behavior in accord with rules of conduct,
(Dictionary.com). Throughout his career Jeter made his own rules of do s and don ts and an example
is, I always tell people that I don t like to boast and I don t like people who brag, but I break my own
rules when it comes to my parents, (Curry 55). Instead of bragging like most players would after a
win, Jeter made his own rule that he could not brag and he followed that rule, unless it comes to his
parents of course. Jeter also followed another rule, he says, I ve always felt that whether you re a
professional athlete or a bus driver, it s better to be humble, (Curry 130). Jeter probably follows most
of the rules he makes for himself every day. It keeps his behavior and the way he acts around others in
check, by now these rules are more of a habit/lifestyle instead of a burden.
Respect is the second core belief and its definition is esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence
of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal
quality or ability, (Dictionary.com). Derek had so much respect for his coaches, teammates, and
especially his parents because when he felt like quitting they were there to make sure he achieved his
goal and dream. At a young age, Jeter and his sister Sharlee were treated

A Detailed Leader Profile From My Placement
Introduction: In this essay, public service leadership will be defined and analyzed. A detailed leader
profile from my placement will be developed and described using Competing Values Framework, as
this is the most effective model that helps leaders think differently about value creation and shows
them how to clarify purpose, integrate practices, and lead people in an organisation. Competing Values
Framework can be used to assess core competencies, decision making, human resources practices, and
leadership capabilities of a leader and organization as well. This study used a 360 Degree Feedback
model, which provides a holistic view of the leader by gathering feedback from a leader s manager,

Public service leadership:
Even before we assume our full time careers, we all encounter numerous leaders in different contexts,
whether parents, teachers, non profit or organizational leaders, who hold in their hands the power to
inspire us. One such leader I came across, through my fellowship program, is Nathaalie N. Carey.
Nathaalie is the first woman, first African American and youngest person to be the director of Budget

Broome County s combined $450 million operating capital and grant budgets. The Network Journal s
40 Under Forty Achievement Award recipient, Nathaalie is currently New York State Department of
Labor Deputy Commissioner Of Administration And Chief Financial Officer. The reason I chose her
for Competing Values Framework study is because she brings together knowledge, values, skills, and
behaviors, and most importantly recognizes value in others and encourages them as well. For example,
Nathaalie encourages me to think about work related problems in new ways, provides opportunities
for me to develop and grow, and prepares me for my next position in the organization.

  • 2. How Did Mikhail Gorbachev Transform The Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev was born March 2, 1931 as the son of Russian peasants in Stavropol territory in southwestern Russia. Fifteen years later in 1946 when he was fifteen years old he joined to Komsomol which was the young communist league and for the next four years he drove a combine harvester at a state farm in Stavropol. Six years later he entered Moscow State Universities law school and became a member of the Communist Party. Mikhail Gorbachev was a Soviet official, the secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) from 1985 to 1991, and he was also a Soviet Union president in 1990 1991. His plans for democratizing his country s political system and to decentralize the economy as well, led to the downfall of communism and the Soviet Union s breakup in 1991. In 1990 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in part because he had ended the Soviet Union s postwar domination of eastern Europe. Gorbachev s efforts to transform the Soviet Union in the 1980 s started by him implementing policies that would bring about individual freedom, bureaucratic transparency. His efforts in order ... After introducing those policies many other countries such as the U.S. had become more willing work with and have a relation with the Soviet Union and this was huge for them as those relations had been cut under the strict censorship s ... • 3. The Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg In the 1450s, a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, which revolutionized the world of publishing (The Printing Press, 2005). Since then, hundreds of word processing programs have been developed, along with thousands of new fonts, from Times New Roman to Comic Sans. Marketing professionals and scientists around the world have wondered what kinds of fonts stick in a person s memory over others (Dizikes, 2013). The concepts of how memory functions, how the brain processes information and how font and memory are connected in psychology are essential to better understand this idea. The nervous system consists of three main sections, the central nervous system (CNS), the peripheral nervous system (PNS), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The short term memories are stored in the hippocampus, the long term are stored in the cerebral cortex, and the flashbulb memories are stored in a special part of the cerebral cortex called the amygdala (Young 2010; Hamzelou, 2011). Short term memory can hold seven items of information for fifteen to twenty seconds. Information that was received verbally and information that was received visually are kept in different places in short term memory. To make the most of the limits of short term memory, the brain chunks two to three facts into one unit of information. Long term memory, however, is stored by significance and meaning rather than the sequence in which they were received. The two kinds of long term memory are implicit and explicit memories. Implicit memories are unconsciously remembered, like how to open doors. Explicit memories are consciously remembered. There are three types of explicit memory: episodic, semantic, and declarative. Episodic memories are memories of events that took place, like a memory of attending a party. Semantic memories are facts, figures, and general knowledge, like the capital of France. Declarative memories are of people, places, and things, such as names and faces (Foster, 2011; Greenberg, 1987; Fields, 2005). Both long term and short term memories travel between neurons, as does any memory. The structure that enables a connection between the neurons is called a synapse. Short term memory has temporary synapse strengthening and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Incredible Hulk Essay 16) The Incredible Hulk The reason this film is at the bottom of the list might not be entirely its fault. Marvel Studios at the time was still not exactly sure where they were going and how Bruce Banner would play into the future of the MCU. However, this movie is not Marvel s best work. Edward Norton was mediocre, there is no denying that Mark Ruffalo is a much better, well rounded Bruce Banner. The climax is a bit of a yawn, but the action scenes are decent. I could care less for the Bruce/Betty dynamic, plus Betty was kind of a nuisance who got in the way. The CGI was cringeworthy, the Hulk looks borderline cartoonish. Despite all this, it s an average Hulk origin story, even though it is a bit less than satisfactory compared to other MCU films. 15) Iron Man 2 Following an amazing film like Iron Man is a hard task, and Iron Man 2 did not meet expectations. The movie was trying to cover too much content, and at the same time trying to bring the fun, quick wittedness of its predecessor. • 7. Essay Finding Meaning in The Turn of The Screw, by Henry... At first glance, Bly appears to be a rather lonely place. The vividly bleak backdrop for The Turn of the Screw houses a handful of servants, two orphaned children, and ghosts who fade in and out of view. But there are others present who are less obtrusive yet just as influential as Peter Quint and Miss Jessel. Peering into and out of Bly s windows and mirrors, engaging with the text and the lingering trace of author Henry James, a crowd of real and virtual readers hope to catch a glimpse of a specter or to unravel a clever Freudian slipknot that will tell them something: They may be looking for that which they think James intended as the text s truth a transcendental center or maybe they subconsciously wish to see a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lustig asserts that James s story uses its blanks to undermine all attempts to establish relations and to join references into a coherent pattern (255). This coherent pattern is what the New Critics believe a text s essential organizing principle to be, and that it is present in the text whether a reader notices it or not. For formalists, a text s essential effect lies in the text alone and is completely independent of a reader s response to elements that create effect in him. Likewise, Lustig s precise analysis of form and subsequent deconstructionist reading of The Turn of the Screw does not mention what a possible reader s process might be when faced with the twists of Bly. But for whom is the effect valuable, if not the reader? As Iser explains in The Reading Process, readers situate themselves within their responses, in effect awakening [the] responses within himself (51). He further argues that if a reader were given the whole story...his imagination would never enter the field, and yield nothing but boredom (51). To Iser, the life of the text depends on a reader s participation in formulating his own response. More importantly, Iser touts the unwritten parts, (gaps and ambiguities) of a text to stimulate the imagination, a process that animates these outlines, and in turn...influence the effect of the written part... • 24. The Safety Practices Of Motorcycle Accidents Imagine the ripple effect created by losing a fellow service member, friend, or loved one due to a motorcycle accident. Senior enlisted leaders should understand the significance of motorcycle accidents because they have a large impact on all branches of the U.S. military. This paper will cover the problem motorcycle accidents present to the military, discuss some of the safety practices currently in place to reduce deaths related to motorcycle accidents, and make recommendations to help reduce motorcycle accident deaths. Problem Motorcycle related deaths have a large impact on the U.S. military. The loss of a friend or loved one is already significant, but the loss of a military member carries with it the loss of training, knowledge, and manning to that community and branch of the military. It spans the entire service as shown when the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) performed a burial at sea for the late Master Chief Sutton, who passed away due to a motorcycle accident while stationed on board (Peak, 2016). Motor vehicle accidents account for one third of the deaths among the U.S. military annually. From 1999 to 2012, there were 4,479 motor vehicle accident related deaths among members of the military, with 25 percent attributable to motorcycle accidents (Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch, 2013). Over that period, non motorcycle motor vehicle accidents declined while motorcycle related accidents steadily increased, accounting for a higher percentage of deaths in motor ... • 26. Sound Waves Allow Us to Hear Have you ever sat down and wondered why you can hear things? How sounds form? What are the different components? This all happens because of sound waves. Sound Waves are disturbances that go from one place to another in a medium. An example of this could be a Slinky. when it is all stretched out the slinky would be at equilibrium. Then a particle in the slinky moves in any direction and makes a disturbance. A pulse allows you to see the disturbance that is happening from both ends of the slinky . when a pulse is repeated continuously through the slinky then it is a wave. A medium is where the wave is carried and held from one end to the other. it only transports the wave, it does not make it The medium plays the role of the slinky in the example from the above paragraph. Mediums can be different depending on the location. For example the ocean water would be the medium of the wave is traveling in the water, the medium is the air if it is a sound wave. The only reason disturbances can get through the medium is because there are parts in the medium that interact with each other. Going back to the slinky example, the coils are the interacting parts of it. And in air the molecules are the interacting pairs. the medium is full of connected particles that go moving each other. The particles in the medium are not always moving, they go back to their normal equilibrium position because they have a constant force on them that makes them do that. Waves are not matter , they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings are excellent examples of this. For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Like the narrator in The Lone Ranger both stores how someone s culture affects the way they act and think. Our culture changes how we behave and react to everyday events. I will start by going through each story giving and explaining examples and how they are related. The first short story I m going to talk about is The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The first example of this is when the narrator is stopped by the police and they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Right after this the narrator is talking about how he is unable to fit into anywhere because of how the culture views native Americans. This is an excellent example of how the culture around the narrator has changed how he thinks about others within his culture. Another interesting event in The Lone Ranger is when ... While reading my paper you will learn about different types of domestic violence. How every type is different than the other. Each type hurts not only the victim, but everybody in the abuser and the victim s lives. Children are usually the witnesses in these situations and tend to be caught in the middle. You will learn how this affects them now and how it affects them later in life. There are also many reasons that someone turns to domestic violence, and all of those topics will be discussed. Finally, you will learn about the treatments available and all the ways to get help. After reading this paper I hope that you will be a little more informed on the consequences of domestic violence. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime (Statistics). Domestic violence is one of the things that I think we as people don t take as serious as other things. Reading that statistic was painfully chilling, and the scariest part is how much of it goes unnoticed. My favorite part of the statistic was the part where it tells you how many men have been a victim of this kind of violence, because factually that is something that is always overlooked. Domestic violence isn t something that should be taken lightly and it definitely shouldn t be something that is brushed off your shoulders if it happens to you and/or if it s happened ... Harron makes use of narration in order to introduce Bateman to the audience, something she employs at the very start of the movie. After detailing his morning routine Bateman narrates that there is an idea of a Patrick Bateman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me. Only an entity, something illusory. You can give generously to the church or political party of your choice. You can save the fucking spotted owls if you want. I always wanted to be rich (Scorsese 4:20). Belfort s primary drive is to have more material things in his possession, and this includes his wife and his children, because he believes that it will make his life better and more fulfilling. But despite all of his debauchery, lies, and manipulation that he executes in order to acquire more things, Jordan Belfort ultimately goes unpunished. Sure, he spends a brief period of time in jail, but he ultimately never feels any psychological remorse for his actions, in fact, in the last scene of the movie, he is teaching a gathering of willing pupils how to become an amazing salesman like him(Scorsese 2:51:37). As one writer comments, he makes no efforts to explain or justify his actions. On the contrary, he trusts that, vicariously at least, we are glad to participate in the deception and debauchery. Adam Smith And Karl Marx In his book Born in Blood Fire, John Chasteen defines Progress as any transformation that made Latin America similar to European and US models, resulting in human improvement. These transformations included the application of advanced technology, new political aspects, and economic growth. Neocolonialism was born from Progress, which can be explained as the influence foreign countries had on Latin America s colonization. There was, however, different views on which way Progress should be achieved Latin America. Adam Smith and Karl Marx are examples of the main two views. Adam Smith, a Scottish Philosopher, was a critique of controlled markets and supported the idea that consumers should be able to engage in a free market in order to achieve overall self profit. As a believer in capitalism, Smith also viewed private property and overall self interest as positives. Implementing these ideas without the interference of the government, Smith believed, led to unlimited wealth and the most desirable economic outcome. Karl Marx, on the contrary, believed that poor people suffered for the benefit of the higher social class. • 34. The Four Core Beliefs Of Derek Jeter When you start your education at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy(SMSA) you are taught and are expected to follow the four core beliefs that shape our school and its environment. The four core beliefs are discipline, respect, dedication, and responsibility or how most students know it as D.R.D.R. However, SMSA students are not the only ones that abide by these rules and beliefs. A well known athlete that is a great example of this is the New York Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter. According to Jeter, his success did not come overnight. His biography displays all the hard work he went through to become the best and he started just at the age of eight with a goal of becoming a shortstop for the New York Yankees. Jeter inspires others to set their goals above and beyond, and if you work hard or believe in yourself that you can achieve anything you want. Discipline is just one of the four core beliefs and it means behavior in accord with rules of conduct, (Dictionary.com). Throughout his career Jeter made his own rules of do s and don ts and an example is, I always tell people that I don t like to boast and I don t like people who brag, but I break my own rules when it comes to my parents, (Curry 55). Instead of bragging like most players would after a win, Jeter made his own rule that he could not brag and he followed that rule, unless it comes to his parents of course. Jeter also followed another rule, he says, I ve always felt that whether you re a professional athlete or a bus driver, it s better to be humble, (Curry 130). Jeter probably follows most of the rules he makes for himself every day. It keeps his behavior and the way he acts around others in check, by now these rules are more of a habit/lifestyle instead of a burden. Respect is the second core belief and its definition is esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability, (Dictionary.com). Derek had so much respect for his coaches, teammates, and especially his parents because when he felt like quitting they were there to make sure he achieved his goal and dream.
