Ancient Babylonia
When studying Ancient Babylonia it is notably important to look at these factors: daily life, religion,
people, society, government and economy so we can determine the development of the civilization
and how it is similar to the way we live today. The Babylonian Empire is unique because their
government was run by a law known as the Code of Hammurabi similarly are government is run by
numerous laws. Their knowledge of science and astrology is intriguing due to the fact that they were
the first civilization to form the basis of the sixteen month of thirty days calendar, their discovery of
the calendar lend us to the calendars we have today. In addition to government, science and astrology
their economy was very modern and played an immense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also had a list of magical stones to develop their knowledge of mineralogy. Map mating was a
very known science to the Babylonians most of them were experienced in it which made them more
aware of there surrounding. Babylonians drew maps of local areas such as field plans, estates plans,
grounds plants of temples and houses as well as maps of more distant regions such as larger areas:
districts and towns. Their maps were drawn mostly in straight lines, with little attention to scale,
angles and orientation. Most of the sciences they began to study and explore are the same sciences that
we are going into today. The Babylonians have built the foundation for us and we used that and are
building the rest. br br Mathematics was just as important to the Babylonian as it is to us. They
however calculated things entirely different from us. A prime example of this is their number system
which had two disadvantages: (1) it was confusing and, therefore, not used in many daily economic
activities (2) there was no special sign for zero, to separate the different units, so they would leave two
blank spaces for zero or by using a special sign that indicated a space between two words. Babylonian
mathematicians developed a mastery of algebraic skill, even though there was no graphic symbol for
the unknown. Instead they invented a method called false value. Babylonians also

HIV Came with Harsh Stereotypes and Discrimination for...
During the 1980s and 1990s the new HIV disease began to emerge in society and with it came harsh
stereotypes and discrimination against those who contracted it. Simultaneously, one of the most
talented and influential point guards in basketball was dominating the sport: Earvin Magic Johnson.
Throughout his career Johnson gained three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was admitted
into the Basketball Hall of Fame ( Magic Johnson ). However, on November 7, 1991, Johnson
announced his diagnosis of HIV and his retirement from the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Following this abrupt and unexpected event, Johnson became one of the leading figures in the fight
against AIDS. The Magic Johnson Foundation was founded and is still dedicated to educating
communities about AIDS. The charitable and influential work Johnson contributed to the research of
AIDS revealed him as not just an extraordinary basketball player but also as an extraordinary human
being ( Magic Johnson ). A few years after Johnson s diagnosis, he released his autobiography, My
Life. My Life describes the childhood and competitive basketball years of Johnson as well as his
announcement of contracting HIV. In the article, New and Noteworthy Paperbacks , by Laurel
Graeber, reviewer Harvey Araton describes Magic Johnson s autobiography, My Life, as best when he
shares his insights about his coaches and fellow players (Graeber). The article has positive things to
say about Johnson s autobiography such

How Do Special Interest Groups and Mass Media Influence...
The media, interest groups, and political standard is a fascinating marriage in our mechanically
exceptional social order. It is better comprehended when differentiated into their singular commitment
to our social order to positively feel their effect on our day by day lives. Broad communications is
characterized as a method for correspondence that achieves a huge volume of individuals in a short
measure of time (broad communications). Interest groups could be better seen as an aggregation that is
resolved to forestall or help change open arrangement without the need of being chosen (Twyman
Whitney, 2009). Furthermore, popular conclusion is characterized as the whole of all unique
convictions in a given populace. By understanding what these parts of the current political ideal model
should speak to we can better see how this marriage has been tainted and the electorate is, no doubt
deceived. The first motivation behind the media was to educate the general population of any news on
an authentic, fair minded, and truthful way and we managed the press in which constitutionally
ensured flexibility of the press. Benefit spurs this new development of the press. Ads in all
manifestations of media, is the primary wellspring of income for that organization and this drive
revenue driven can structure inclinations so as to expand benefit by promotions that are equipped to
the crowd, which as a general rule is the end customer of the paying sponsors (Petrova,

Stereotyping, Discrimination and Prejudice in the Media
The movie that I have chosen to watch for this particular bonus assignment is called The Freedom
Writers . The movie is about a new teacher and the challenges that she faces in order to make the
students in her English class, who come from different ethnics backgrounds and who most hate each
other, get along. And, of course, by the end of the movie, she is successful in doing so.
Racism played a major role in this movie, seen as a negative aspect in the children s attitudes and
mentalities. Racism is defined as negative behaviour on an incorrect assumption that one race is
inherently superior to others. This is one of the many forms of discrimination which is defined as
unfair actions directed against people based on their race, gender, ... Show more content on

When the teacher asked the class who knew what the Holocaust was, only one white person out of the
entire body of students knew. That is when she realized that the students had very little knowledge
about the outside world. This greatly related to Gordon W. Allport s theory. Allport was a psychologist
who used questionnaires and interviews to measure the strength of individual prejudice, and who
found a correlation between higher education and experiences such as knowledge about cultures,
traveling, etc, and tolerance or the acceptance of differences between people. In this case, because the
students were not taught and were unaware that there were similar cases to theirs, only on a greater
scale, they continued to prejudge, and discriminate against each other. Later on in the movie though,
because they begin to travel more and gain more knowledge about the outside world, they become
more aware and realize that they should change. In addition, three other theorists ideas play a role in
the movie. The first one is Frances Aboud, who believes that children first learn prejudice from the
media, family, friends, etc, when they are bombarded with negative images. In this movie, the girl Eva
is a perfect example of how she changed the way she sees people. Since she was a little girl, her father
used to tell her that she had to fight for their people as the ancestors fought against

Persuasive Essay On Children With Leukemia
One day while reading the paper, Karen Loucks, the founder of Project Linus, discovered an article on
a young girl who was diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. She had a security blanket that she took with
her to two years of intensive chemotherapy. When she began chemo, 97% of her bone marrow had
cancerous cells. Chemo rid this child of cancer, but she still endures nausea, loss of hair, and high
fevers. After reading about the leukemia patient in the paper, she decided to go to the Rocky Mountain
Children s Cancer Center with six freshly crocheted blankets. She decided to present the idea to a man
named Dr. Edward Arenson. He loved the idea, and took her to children receiving infusions. Each of
them took one for themselves, receiving comfort from this object. After delivering the blankets, Karen
asked Ed to estimate how many children he sees a year, and he said about 100. On the drive home, she
decided to make an organization for children in the Rocky Mountain Children s Hospital that would
donate blankets to those struggling through their experience with cancer. When she told her crocheting
group, The Hooker s Club, about this idea, a woman by the name of Shirley Hardin decided to donate
the first blanket to the cause. After that one donation, the organization began to take off! Karen
decided to go to the local newspaper press and get Project Linus in the newspaper. Sure enough, the
next week, there was an article on Project Linus, saying what the organization does for the

ABA Intervention
It is important to establish and maintain effective communication, professionalism, and a scientific
relationship with clients. It is essential to always preserve the relationship because it is vital to the
client s success of treatment. It is also imperative to consider the way in which information is
delivered to clients and their family or caregivers. One must eliminate jargoning while attempting to
communicate with clients. The use of scientific terminology of a particular study can become lost
when engaging with a client or family members. By eliminating jargoning we are reaching them in a
way that is easily understood by those not proficient in those terms of the field. Those that understand
the intervention are more likely to adhere ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When evaluating a client you are wondering and determining the type of treatment or intervention you
would like to introduce. As each client is different, what works for client A may not be effective with
client B. In determining the type of intervention there should be a certain level of research along with
the gained professional and educational knowledge obtained. While researching treatments there are
bound to be a multitude of fad treatments. It is important to research and steer away from alternate
treatments also known as AltTs. These treatments are those that attempt to mimic ABA interventions
but are not scientifically found. There has been little or no research provided, they have no scientific
data, or they may be unsupported. Very few if any have cohesive research studies on entire treatment
packages. Using any of these treatments would be deemed unethical. That is why research is key. A lot
of AltTs disguise themselves as ABA; when in fact ABA is a science and science is the intellectual and
practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and
natural world through observation and experiment. ABA seeks to understand and alter behaviors by
observation, study, and proven scientific techniques. Using such treatments could, potentially, do more
harm than good. We must remember to respect our practice and bestow our best interest and maintain

Comparing Vickory s Pecola And Cholly Breedlove
The problem about Cholly is that he has seen in his daughter everything he has hated in himself. When
he abuses, rapes, and destroys her innocence, he abuses and hurts himself as a helpless man whom his
little child embodies. Considering his past, Cholly s rape of his daughter makes more sense. Pecola
represents Cholly as a child. She is an ugly little helpless girl who is rejected by everyone. Whenever
cholly sees her, he remembers his childhood as a helpless child . Being rejected by his father when he
goes to meet him is similar to the way Pecola is rejected by everyone. He feels revulsion towards her.

While Pecola Breedlove represents weakness and helplessness, Claudia represents strength and
struggle. One can see how both girls react differently to situations. When Pecola is abused by the

In today’s biotech marketplace, oncology leads the...
In today s biotech marketplace, oncology leads the therapeutic research and commercial space. Cancer
tops the charts as one of the leading causes of death in the United States and around the world
(antibody Drug Conjugates). Early stages of cancer treatment often involve surgery and radiation
therapy. However, chemotherapy drugs, often a last resort, are leading the market in therapeutics for
cancer treatment. Most chemotherapy drugs on the market today do not have the ability to target the
cancer specifically; this leads to unwanted toxic effects to non target organs. Monoclonal antibodies
offer another approach to treating cancer by binding to the cancer surface receptors and offer cancer
killing abilities without the cytotoxic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This therapeutic approach is able to deliver cytotoxic compounds directly to the site of interest, via
linker attachment with cytotoxic compound and antibodies. There are many benefits to ADCs
including increased efficacy of future and current marketed cytotoxic compounds.
ImmunoGen increases its market share by sublicensing this technology to pharmaceutical companies
including Sanofi, Roche, Eli Lilly, and Amgen. For example, Bayer has exclusive licenses to
ImmunoGen maytansinoid TAP technology. The exclusive license grants Bayer the rights to develop
treatments only targeting mesothelin (Cancer Drug Developers Considering ImmunoGen s Tap
Technology). This endeavor is expected to net ImmunoGen roughly $170M for each product
engineered, not including future royalties on sales. Furthermore, Novartis has agreed to license
ImmunoGen s TAP technology to target cancer therapeutics as well (Cancer Drug Developers
Considering ImmunoGen s Tap Technology). This potential deal is set to bring in roughly $200M.
ImmunoGen s TAP technology produces ADCs to develop improved cancer fighting agents. This is
accomplished by first engineering an antibody to accept a linker that will eventually attach to the
cytotoxic area of interest. This technology can be used to develop cytotoxic compounds or to enhance
currently marketed cytotoxic compounds. Currently, ImmunoGen has roughly 25 ADC products in the
pipeline (ADC The New Frontier). Kadcyla combines

A Brief Note On Preventative Medicine And Education
Preventative Medicine and Education Poor health and homelessness has been connected through
multiple studies. Having poor health can cause homelessness. On the flip side, being homeless can
also cause poor health. Being homeless brings a list of complications including limited access to
getting proper health care. This causes the health of the homeless population in the United States to be
worse than that of the general population. Common health problems in the homeless population
include: mental health problems, substance abuse problems, bronchitis and pneumonia, problems
caused by being outdoors, wound and skin infections, along with the complications that follow each of
the listed problems (Medicine Plus, 2016). Along with the list of problems previously stated, many
homeless women are victims of domestic or sexual abuse. Children often have high rates of emotional
and behavioral problems, many times caused from having witnessed abuse. Studies have shown 31
46% report having a chronic medical problem. (NHCHC, 2001, p.1). According to these statistics
almost half of the homeless population are suffering from chronic health problems. The majority of
which will not receive proper care to cure the health problems. The homeless population, in order to
address the living challenges, they use extraordinary amounts of human services. Visits to a facility
that provides health care is much higher for a homeless person than the general population. Homeless

Abraham Lincoln And National Identity
America is a curious amalgamation of a country, with a unique national identity that is uniform in its
ideals of liberty yet just as diverse as the cultures it represents. This strong sense of national character
is the defining attribute that allows America to prosper against all unlikelihoods.
Although America occasionally falls victim to internal divisions, the opposing sides still share a
common culture, which gives hope for reconciliation and allows the country to succeed in improbable
situations. When Abraham Lincoln was elected to his second term in presidential office, America was
in the midst of a civil war that had divided the populace in more ways than one. However, Lincoln

Emanuel Leutze s Washington Crosses the Delaware is a dramatization of a famous moment in
American history where the Patriots rowed across the Delaware River under the cover of darkness and
under the leadership of their general, George Washington. In his painting, Leutze is uses pathos of the
light versus the dark to evoke national pride. The dichotomy of the two extremes is very well
entrenched in the American consciousness, and therefore a feature of interest is the background, which
has a gradient of light to dark as the observer views the image from left to right. However, George
Washington and his men are moving from right to left, and therefore they are moving away from the
dark and approaching the light. The light thus gains an additional meaning as a representation of
freedom and liberty, as the Revolutionary War that they were partaking in was fought against the
oppression and tyranny of the British towards their American colonies. Additionally, while
Washington makes a prominent figure in the foreground, the background also portrays a few dozen
men in boats whose direction can best be called ambivalent. While Leutze s portrayal is a glorification
of American history and undoubtedly of Washington himself, the ambivalence of the men further
portrays the strength of Washington s convictions in the common American value of liberty, even in
the face of the harsh conditions that affected he and his men in their fight for

During the nineteenth century a country located in the western border of Europe that was once quite
prosperous was beginning to take quite a turn. This country was France. At the time France was
known for its alcoholic industry. Alcohol was so important to France that alcoholic beverages even
became a prominent part of French culture. France was also advancing in medicine and attempting to
progress far in technology to contribute to this field. For example, France was constantly creating
vaccines that were saving hundreds of lives both in the present day and in the future. More and more
citizens of France were aiming to become a part of the medical field, leading to a new found respect
for that field of science. The silk industry was also prominent, ... Show more content on

Louis had to pick between two experimental approaches. He either had to choose from a purely
chemical experimental approach where he would have to define the pattern in which the molecules are
arranged through experiments or from the approach of revealing the physical properties of crystals by
extensive research and physical observation. Pasteur decided to choose the latter otherwise known as
crystallography. Pasteur decided to become a member of the research team that studied crystals. He
wanted to discover the true essence and the mystery behind crystals. Little did Pasteur know that his
research of crystals would result in France s advancement in the scientific field. Pasteur s research
project consisted of the two crystalline structures. One crystalline structure was of tartaric acid, a
compound that is generally found in wine that is sour. The other crystalline structure that Pasteur
focused on was called racemic acid, which was found in the vats that wine was made in. He focused
on these two specific crystals because they had a unique feature. Although they both seemed to have
the same shape, they were geometrically different; the tartaric acid was optically active, while the
racemic acid was not. After almost a year of extensive sketching, in which his artist background

Technology And The Dumbest Generation
Innovations seen in the characterization of technology have swept their influence over the growing
generations. Its mere presence has permitted the young to grasp onto quick accessed information and
communication. The increasing presence of virtual interaction and technology among the lives of
teens raises the highly controversial issue revolving around the levels of intelligence possessed by
today s generation. Many bounce the question of intelligence back and forth, asking whether today s
adolescents have been able to maintain the brainpower compared to older generations or have let the
virtues of cleverness plummet. The argument is further complicated by the unresolved question to
whether being categorized dumbest signifies holding the least knowledge or lacking the capacity and
ability to think critically. Despite the claims that the presence of technology has affected today s
generation by molding dumber and more uneducated people through the emergence of illiteracy and
other incapabilities brought about by its presence, people under thirty are not the dumbest generation
as they have utilized the presence of technology to their advantage in various aspects.
Technology s presence in the lives of people has not yet grown malignant enough to cause devastating
fractures in the rise of intelligence levels. Though many label others as dumb due to the idea
embedded into their head that technology has put a halt to thinking for themselves, the idea itself is

Religion and science are two subjects most would choose not to discuss in the same vicinity. History
has shown how quarrelsome doing so can be. However, as history has progressed into the modern

suggest, after the centuries of debate and controversy, that science and religion have somehow grown
to be congruent? Perhaps not all religions, for not all religions can agree with one another, let alone
science. Despite past differences, the more science and Christianity are studied and compared, some
might see similarities. Ultimately, both science and Christianity very well could be attributed to one

Essay about The Price of Diamonds Is Too High
Statement: The price of diamonds is too high.
The diamond cartel is the most successful and long lasting cartel in history. The cartel created a
scarcity for diamond and stabilized the prices at a high level. This essay will be discussing the validity
of the statement with reference to the market of the diamond industry, history of the diamond cartel,
how the price of diamonds is determined, and the implications thereof.
A cartel is a group of firms acting together...to limit output, raise prices, and increase economic profit.
(Parkin et al., 2013:312) The diamond cartel formed when diamonds were discovered in South Africa.
This discovery, in 1870, brought a rush of prospectors to South Africa to search for alluvial diamonds.
The search ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the discovery of diamonds resulted in an overall decrease in the price and value of
diamonds.
Rhodes saw the diamond cartel as a solution to this problem. Rhodes used the cartel to limit the supply
of diamonds to the actual demand, thereby stockpiling the excess supply. De Beers not only controlled
the market in South Africa, but they also expanded their holdings to other parts of the world, such as,
England and Israel. (Epstein, 1982:1) By 1929, when Sir Oppenheimer took control of De Beers, the
transition between the actual mining to the distribution, which is controlled by the Central Selling
Organizing (CSO), became centrally controlled. (Spar, 2006:197 198)
By analysing the definition of monopoly, which ...is the exclusive right of a person, corporation or
state to sell a particular commodity (Lerner, 1934:157), we can deduce that the diamond industry is a
single price monopoly; in other words, De Beers created its own barriers to prevent others from entry
by obtaining control of the supply of diamonds (Parkin et al., 2013:273) and selling at the same price
to all its customers (Parkin et al., 2013:275). Since by definition, a monopoly consists of one entity, a
monopolist has complete control of the supply of the commodity; therefore, it has market power and,
thus, has the ability to control the prices. (Parkin et al., 2013:272 273) The same would apply to the
diamond industry: De Beers was the only firm that mined

Essay about Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment
Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment
Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder that is characterized by a variety of symptoms and the
disorganization of feeling and thought. It is an incurable disease whose causes are unknown, yet
whose effects are mind and body crippling. (Young, 1988, p.13 14) This topic was chosen because it is
interesting to study a disorder that worldwide, is viewed as a classic example of madness and insanity.
Another reason of interest is because unlike many illnesses, schizophrenia doesn t have a noticeable
pattern and its difficulty to be diagnosed as a disease makes the collection of statistics difficult. It is
important to learn more about schizophrenia because a significant numbr of people are affected

(Szasz,1982, p.4, p.29) In 1900, the term schizophrenia, now used worldwide, was used to describe
the condition that one out of every hundred people had. This statistic remains the same today. Through
research and years of study, the world has a better understanding of schizophrenia, its forms,
characteristics, symptoms, types, possible causes, and treatments, if any. ( Pierce, 1990. p.263 )
Schizophrenia has no actual definition, but it describes a series of events and actions that a person
ususally experiences. Schizophrenia is a psychosis. ( Smith, 1992, p.23 25 ) Psychosis describes a
disorder where a group of mental disturbances happen. Schizophrenia is described to be a psychosis
because it causes the victim to lose the ability to be in touch with society and its functions. For
example, a person may begin to see animals that are not there, or may begin to characterize
themselves as a famous person from the past such as Queen Elizabeth or King Edward. ( Kvarnes,
Parloff, 1983, p.220 223) There are many aspects that characterize schizophrenia. Schizophrenics
usually behave in a strange or abnormal manner where the mind is separated from reality and the
difference between what is real and not is unknown. A schizophrenic therefore has distorted ideas
about who they are and about life. Feelings of withdrawal, worthlessness and emptiness also appear

The White Anglo Saxon Protestants (WASPs) have been at the top of the social hierarchy ever since
they arrived to America in the 1600s. The first wave of immigration consisted of the Germans, Irish
and Chinese. The WASPs created a way to measure the success of each immigrant group. They
acknowledged four factors of success that would show them whether an immigrant group was
successful or not. The first factor of success was how much money an immigrant had when they came
to America. The more money they came to America with, the more successful they were. Another
factor of an immigrant s success was how large the group they came with was. The larger the group,

The WASPs also respected the Germans because the Germans were Protestant. The Germans also
proved that they were extremely hardworking. They created many businesses, some of which still
exist today. The Germans also brought over foods such as hot dogs, apple pie, and pretzels.
Furthermore, the Germans came in quite small numbers, which the WASPs definitely appreciated. The
Germans did not have to assimilate and live on their own, without the WASPs having to take care of
them. Finally, the Germans were relatively welcomed when they arrived to America. The only
stereotype given to them was a positive one, claiming that they were the model immigrants that every
other immigrant group should aspire to be like. All in all, the six million Germans who came to the
United States during the first wave were well liked by the WASPs and had a successful and smooth
immigration into America.
Arguably the least successful immigrant group that arrived to America was the Irish. When the Irish
landed in the United States, the WASPs immediately disliked them. First off, the Irish came over with
barely any money, which indicated to the WASPs that they were unsuccessful and unintelligent. The
Irish came over to America in tightly packed ships called coffin ships. They were called coffin ships

Cell Network Operators And Mobile Network Operator
1 SMALL CELL BACKHAUL: Small cell backhaul connects small cells with mobile network
operator. As mobile network operators begin to deploy growing numbers of small cells in order to
meet the rapidly increasing demand for mobile data capacity, and to utilize the maximum spectrum we
use backhaul. The major challenge facing them is how to provide efficient and cost effective backhaul
solution. 2 BACKHAUL REQUIREMENT: For designing this backhaul one should consider the type
of environment, transmission technique, topology and motivation for deployment of small cell. There
are different topology like star, tree, ring and mesh topology which is implemented among the small
cell to the backhaul. Transmission technologies followed in backhaul solutions are Point to Point
microwave, Point to Multipoint microwave, Leased lines, xDSL (e.g. VDSL2), Point to Point Fiber
,PLC(Power Line Communication) and WiMAX. 3 TYPES OF BACKHAUL: 3.1WIRED
BACKHAUL: Wired backhaul solutions have played a key role in mobile base station backhaul over
the years due to their high performance, better reliability, scalability, high data rates and high
availability. Wired backhaul solutions helps small cell by working with new site types, likes
streetlamps, rooftop and wall mounts. It should be able to meet lower cost than those associated with
macro cell backhaul. The overall backhaul solution may be the combination of both wired and
wireless, with the wired solution linking to wireless hub sites.

Southern Women In The Civil War Essay
Women during the Civil War were forced into life style changes which they had never dreamed they
would have to endure. No one was spared from the devastation of the war, and many lives were
changed forever. Women in the south were forced to take on the responsibilities of their husbands,
carrying on the daily responsibilities of the farm or plantation. They maintained their homes and
families while husbands and sons fought and died for their beliefs. Many women took the advantage
of their opinions being heard, and for the first time supported their cause in anyway they could.
Whether a woman was the mistress of a plantation or the wife of a yeoman farmer, her life was
defined by work. Only a small number of women, those related or ... Show more content on

Many women were beginning to notice changes in themselves and the other women around them.
Sallie Putnam wrote, Those who had formerly devoted themselves to gaiety and fashionable
amusements, found their only real pleasure in obedience to the demands made upon their time and
talents, in providing proper habiliments for the soldier the devotee of ease, luxury and idle
enjoyment, found herself transformed into the busy seamstress (Confederate, 26). Before the war
women who lived in or near cities could, if status and funding permitted, lead slightly easier lives than
rural women. General stores lined the streets, selling all types of merchandise, from sewing machines
to washboards. Newspapers advertised both ready made clothing and the services of expert
seamstresses and milliners. Produce grown in backyard gardens was available for purchase, and local
farmers carted their surplus into town. Churches, schools, and theaters offered social and cultural
outlets. The sociable elite enjoyed dinner and card parties (Grander, 5). Once the war began many
women were forced to give up the simple luxuries they were once accustomed to. The daily things that
women used became scarce, and many women were forced to sell, or barter their personal property.
Before the war many women of high society often wore elaborate dresses made of silk and lace, but as
basic goods became more

Granulosus Case Study
The echinococcus granulosus has been described as the most frequent cause of the hydatid cysts.
Humans are the incidental intermediate host. Larvae emerge from the eggs in the intestine; and after
invasion to the blood vessels, they can migrate into almost every part of the body. The usual
destination is the liver via the portal tract, but sometimes the larvae pass through the liver barrier and
reach the lungs and all the other viscera, where they transform into small cysts. The cyst of
echinococcus is a rare finding in pelvic sites.Dissemination via lymphatic or systemic circulation has
been implicated as a possible route to produce primary hydatid diseases outside the liver and lung.. In
our case the ovarian hydatid cyst is most probably a secondary one, due to a spontaneously or
iatrogenic rupture of the hepatic cyst removed 3 years earlier. Pelvic echinococcosis symptomatology
is non specific and can include abdominal tumefactions, abdominal pain, menstruation irregularities,
infertility and urinary disturbances. Ovarian echinococcosis can simulate either polycystic disease or
malignancy.. On USG, it mimics cystic ovarian disease or a solid ovarian mass.A high grade of
suspicion or a preoperative diagnosis of echinococcus cyst makes it possible to avoid an intraoperative
iatrogenic rupture, and when available, to administer previously an ... Show more content on

Wilson has changed. He s not the same person, he once was. I personally think that this has to do with
Henry s perception, as well as Wilson truthfully changing. A quotation to prove this is: Wilson even

Understanding Cashflow Essay
Understanding Cashflow
Within an organisation, money comes in and flows out. This is called the organisation s cashflow.
From time to time, business managers may pose questions such as:
* Can we afford to buy x?
* Are we going to be able to pay that bill?
* Wouldn t it be nice if we could develop y?
To answer such questions, they will often have to carry out some form of financial planning, and often
to seek additional finance from outside the company. The key issues are:
* What is the finance for?
* How long will it be needed?
* Is it affordable, i.e. can the firm keep up with the repayments?
Common methods of finance

Businesses often depend on customers paying bills promptly. Given that customers like Ron Rust may
delay payment as long as possible, an overdraft can be a useful form of short term business finance.
Factoring
Trade debts mean that money can often be tied up for as much as sic months. For a business requiring
cash quickly this can be a real problem. A factoring company may offer immediate payment of part of
the amount owed to a business normally around 80% with the balance being paid when the debt is
settled. This provided an immediate way for a business to improve its cashflow. In return, the
factoring company will charge a fee which includes interest and administration charges.
Leasing and hire purchase
There are many different ways for customers to receive goods and make payments over time.
Goods on hire purchase remain the property of the finance company until the customer has made all
the payments. Other credit purchasing schemes enable the goods to belong to the customer from the
first payment. With leasing, the lessee uses the asset while making regular payments to the lessee, who
owns it. An operating lease is for a small amount, and a capital or finance lease is for a large item over
an extended period.
Loans
Most businesses need to borrow in order to trade successfully. The charge for

Hamlet Laertes Personality
Shakespeare s plays contain many types of characters. In Hamlet Laertes is absent throughout most of
the play. However, he still has a complex personality. At times, Laertes s actions are caused by
differing traits and, therefore create conflicting outcomes such as, a loved sister and the death of many.
Nevertheless, these characteristics are what make him himself. Laertes often becomes angry which
sometimes leads him to action without thought, but he is caring, loyal and, religious to an extent.
Laertes often lets his anger consume him sometimes causing him to act before knowing all the details.
After hearing of his father s death, Laertes storms the castle, when it could be assumed, he would be

His love for Ophelia is obvious in many ways. Before leaving for France, Laertes talks with his sister
about Hamlet. He warns her that the Prince s love for her is most likely a fleeting emotion. He
continues, saying that even if his feelings are true, it doesn t matter because he will marry for the
kingdom, not for love: His will is not his own (1,3,17). He warns her not only so she won t get hurt,
but also so she doesn t ruin her future. However, his most obvious act of love comes after her death.
He leaps into her grave so that he may hold her once more: Hold of the earth awhile till I have caught
her once more in mine arms (5,1,252 252). How much Laertes cares for Ophelia is very obvious and
present through the whole play but, his care and loyalty for others does have an extent. He shows
loyalty to his father by avenging his death. He goes so far to say he would kill Hamlet in the church if
the opportunity presented itself. While Laertes loyalty to his father is not seen until his father s death,
his loyalty to the king is presented much earlier. It is first shown when he came to Denmark to show
[his] duty in [the King s] coronation (1,2,53). He also shows his loyalty when he agrees to help kill
Hamlet. However, this loyalty is questionable because when Laertes is dying, he contradicts himself
by telling Hamlet The King s to blame

One example of rhetoric I discovered while reading was, metaphors. As she states many times, she
believes everything can be applied to as a metaphor during her recovery time, one experience she had

past and present were the two candles we started with; she would ask me what I would like to start
with or deal with today. I would light up either my past or my present depending on the answer.
During the last few sessions, we ve used the candles I ve noticed my past melting more and more and
becoming duller and duller in light. Jaycee s recovery is very important to her as she watches herself
grow more and more comfortable with living freely and out of the controlling grips of Phillip. Before,
Jaycee was unknowingly reliant of Phillip for everything, for food, for safety, for assurance. Jaycee, as
a developing woman during this time, began to cling to this lifestyle and while she is breaking from

Ms Trunchball Analysis
The film Matilda by Danny DeVito was released in 1996. Ms Trunchball is depicted as an evil and
malicious character. This is shown through her appearance, personality and language lighting effects
and camera angles.
Firstly, Ms Trunchballs negative appearance depicts and shows how evil and malicious she is. Her
appearance is very unflattering and what she wears makes her look even more scary and terrifying
then she really is. She wears dark, harsh clothing which is unflattering and old fashioned, as a viewer
it makes me feel scared and anxious about how she dresses and appears as a character. Ms Trunchball

used are low angles, as these types of shots make a subject appear larger, bigger, powerful strong and

level shots or close ups of Ms Trunchball were the most effective because it showed her disgusting

The Three Major Characteristics Of The Rice Riots
Rice riots
Rice riots happened in 1918 when the Japanese government was involved in the Siberia intervention
and the economy of Japan was in war prosperity that the export and industrial development was
growing rapidly. To maintain the competitiveness of the Japanese exports and industrial product, the
government set the purchasing price of the rice merchant from the peasants, which was much lower
than the market price to lower the industrial production cost of the raw materials. As a result, the
living standard of the general peasants and workers in the city had even worsened under the prosperity
despite the huge growth in industry and the economy. In May 1917, the rice market price starts to rise
rapidly by 3 yen per koku and the price reached ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rice riot indicated the social structure at that time that the peasants and low level workers were
highly exploited and could not even benefit from the development of the economy. This riot meant the
strong dissent to the oppression from the government and the industrial Zaibatsu from the peasants to
normal Japanese people. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic development style
could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot had led to three major
changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing price of the peasants were
raised a little while the government tried to lower the market price by increasing imports from its
colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries (Morgan 2011, 121 122), which
slightly improved the living standard of the poor. The more important impact is in the government that
Hara Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the
government and the rise of the party politics. Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet
members could be untitled, which indicated a great progress for the Japanese democracy development.
The rice riot also caused the strong opposition to the left wing ideology in the Japanese government.
After the riot, most of the leaders in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To
avoid such a riot happening again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing
movement and strikes (Morgan 2011, 125 134). For instance, even in 1925, a more democratic period,
to avoid the spread the communism in Japan and other left wing ideology, the diet had passed Public
Security Preservation Laws to delegalize the left wing parties. The strong attitude against the left wing
ideology were because of the serious rice

AAA Brewing Company Case Study
AAA Brewing Company will promote sales by encouraging a sense of community in the surrounding
area. While expansion in terms of distribution territory or physical space (to meet demand) is not
considered, future expansion of fermentation and conditioning will take place modestly in pace with
adjusted revenue and community engagement. Expansion goals include an additional program for
mixed culture fermentations utilizing easily acquired wine/spirits barrels. A strategy of consumer
education, local visibility and aggressive collaboration with neighboring breweries will not only create
a destination for nearby beer enthusiasts, but define Greensboro as a craft beer destination.
AAA Brewing Company will remove all obstacles between the brewer and the customer. Once the

Tyranny In America
The United States, fighting to not be under England s rule, feared falling back into a monarchy. The
governmental power in America is separated into three different branches or departments of
government, modeled after Greek political ideas. The government was divided in this way to prevent
any one entity from containing all the power. Thusly, keeping any form of a monarchy from coming
into power. The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands,
whether hereditary, self appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of
tyranny. (201 202). Maddison believed the legislative branch was the most powerful of the three
branches. According to him, it alone had the greatest potential

days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday averaging forty patients per day. However, only four nurses
are scheduled on our busiest days. That is ten critical patients per nurse, which is not only unsafe but
leads to decreased morale, mistakes and an inability to leave work on time. 3) Describe end state and
goals My goal, over the course of this class is to change the staff schedule to match that of the
operating room and to transition to Stay Staffed self scheduling systems hospital wide. The daily
schedule will include but is not limited to a minimum of six nurses per day with schedules that parallel
the operating room turnover times. Also, I have begun working with upper level management on a
program that allows critically ill, intubated patients to bypass the recovery room and be directly
admitted to the critical care area that the patient is assigned to. This saves the patient and family
money and decreases patient load for the recovery room staff. My goal is to hire three new nurses and
change the staff schedule from (4) twelve hour days to (3 to 4) eight to ten hour days and create a
weekend on call team. Instead of mandatory overtime, create a sign up list and make overtime
optional. Please see example of new schedule below:

Summary Of Lynch Law In All Its Phases By Ida B. Wells
2. One of the texts most focused on educating readers about race and the challenges it presents to
American culture is Ida B. Wells Lynch Law in All its Phases. As discussed in previous reading
responses, Wells speech is made up primarily of evidence due to the limitations placed on women of
colors speech but even more so due to her deep seated conviction that the country at large does not
know the extent to which lynch law prevails in parts of the Republic (189). In this way, Wells
endeavours to educate the US both about lynching and about the repercussions of allowing lynch law
to prevail. That is, Wells forces audiences to acknowledge the fact that lynching, and thus white
supremacy and racism, actively threaten the moral pillars that the United States is built on. ... Show

Wells extends this threat on the American dream to a threat on the constitution (specifically the 14th
amendment), stating, It should be already established as a fact . . . that every human being must have a
fair trial for his life and liberty (202). Again, Wells demonstrates the way that lynch law and racism
supersedes the supreme law of the United States, thus threatening the very foundation of American life

The Fundamental Principles Of Life In Ray Bradbury s...
Change: The Fundamental Principle of Life
Change is one of the fundamental principles of life. In life, it is recurring that mentalities and
philosophies inadvertently change just as often as age and maturity. As life goes on, change is what
allows life to continue and progress. Change is eternal. The changes that we experience come because
of certain events that take place in life, or oftentimes just because of maturity. Whatever changes that
transpire, it is important to embrace them, as life goes on. Ray Bradbury s novel Dandelion Wine
embodies these same aspects of change through its central characters, Doug and Tom Spaulding. The
way that they exemplify this idea of continual change is through their lives during the summer of
1928. During this period, Doug and Tom watch change influence their lives as well as their
community with the changes they see around them, the people, and the changes with themselves.
Doug and Tom experience change in their lives through the events that coincide around them. In
retrospect, both boys recognize that just in the summer, changes arise that they would admittedly
never have foreseen. Beginning in chapter thirteen, the Happiness Machine reaches its end. Although
this creation had not been around for long, the boys were most certainly disappointed to see the
Happiness Machine reach its end. In the story, while Douglas is looking into the family rug, he cannot
help notice that certain parts look like the Happiness Machine burning up. No

Metaphysical Realm Of Garbage
The Metaphysical Realm of Garbage My volunteer experience at Howling Timbers included cleaning
and preparing meals for the animals using expired produce donated from local grocery stores. My
work started with sorting the new shipments of goods into categories and rotating them with the old,
molding fruits and vegetables that would get used in the evening. During meal preparation, I cut off
the fuzzy, moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and put the salvageable
portions into food bins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders, the scraps into a compost pile. I
asked Brenda if larger corporations gave Howling Timbers their expired produce and learned that the
food donations at Howling Timbers come from local grocery stores. Brenda explains to the managers
at these larger grocers that the food they receive is only for animal consumption. Still, they deny her

  • 2. Ancient Babylonia When studying Ancient Babylonia it is notably important to look at these factors: daily life, religion, people, society, government and economy so we can determine the development of the civilization and how it is similar to the way we live today. The Babylonian Empire is unique because their government was run by a law known as the Code of Hammurabi similarly are government is run by numerous laws. Their knowledge of science and astrology is intriguing due to the fact that they were the first civilization to form the basis of the sixteen month of thirty days calendar, their discovery of the calendar lend us to the calendars we have today. In addition to government, science and astrology their economy was very modern and played an immense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also had a list of magical stones to develop their knowledge of mineralogy. Map mating was a very known science to the Babylonians most of them were experienced in it which made them more aware of there surrounding. Babylonians drew maps of local areas such as field plans, estates plans, grounds plants of temples and houses as well as maps of more distant regions such as larger areas: districts and towns. Their maps were drawn mostly in straight lines, with little attention to scale, angles and orientation. Most of the sciences they began to study and explore are the same sciences that we are going into today. The Babylonians have built the foundation for us and we used that and are building the rest. br br Mathematics was just as important to the Babylonian as it is to us. They however calculated things entirely different from us. A prime example of this is their number system which had two disadvantages: (1) it was confusing and, therefore, not used in many daily economic activities (2) there was no special sign for zero, to separate the different units, so they would leave two blank spaces for zero or by using a special sign that indicated a space between two words. Babylonian mathematicians developed a mastery of algebraic skill, even though there was no graphic symbol for the unknown. Instead they invented a method called false value. Babylonians also ... • 3. HIV Came with Harsh Stereotypes and Discrimination for... During the 1980s and 1990s the new HIV disease began to emerge in society and with it came harsh stereotypes and discrimination against those who contracted it. Simultaneously, one of the most talented and influential point guards in basketball was dominating the sport: Earvin Magic Johnson. Throughout his career Johnson gained three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was admitted into the Basketball Hall of Fame ( Magic Johnson ). However, on November 7, 1991, Johnson announced his diagnosis of HIV and his retirement from the National Basketball Association (NBA). Following this abrupt and unexpected event, Johnson became one of the leading figures in the fight against AIDS. The Magic Johnson Foundation was founded and is still dedicated to educating communities about AIDS. The charitable and influential work Johnson contributed to the research of AIDS revealed him as not just an extraordinary basketball player but also as an extraordinary human being ( Magic Johnson ). A few years after Johnson s diagnosis, he released his autobiography, My Life. My Life describes the childhood and competitive basketball years of Johnson as well as his announcement of contracting HIV. In the article, New and Noteworthy Paperbacks , by Laurel Graeber, reviewer Harvey Araton describes Magic Johnson s autobiography, My Life, as best when he shares his insights about his coaches and fellow players (Graeber). • 4. How Do Special Interest Groups and Mass Media Influence... The media, interest groups, and political standard is a fascinating marriage in our mechanically exceptional social order. It is better comprehended when differentiated into their singular commitment to our social order to positively feel their effect on our day by day lives. Broad communications is characterized as a method for correspondence that achieves a huge volume of individuals in a short measure of time (broad communications). Interest groups could be better seen as an aggregation that is resolved to forestall or help change open arrangement without the need of being chosen (Twyman Whitney, 2009). Furthermore, popular conclusion is characterized as the whole of all unique convictions in a given populace. By understanding what these parts of the current political ideal model should speak to we can better see how this marriage has been tainted and the electorate is, no doubt deceived. The first motivation behind the media was to educate the general population of any news on an authentic, fair minded, and truthful way and we managed the press in which constitutionally ensured flexibility of the press. Benefit spurs this new development of the press. Ads in all manifestations of media, is the primary wellspring of income for that organization and this drive revenue driven can structure inclinations so as to expand benefit by promotions that are equipped to the crowd, which as a general rule is the end customer of the paying sponsors (Petrova, ... • 5. Stereotyping, Discrimination and Prejudice in the Media The movie that I have chosen to watch for this particular bonus assignment is called The Freedom Writers . The movie is about a new teacher and the challenges that she faces in order to make the students in her English class, who come from different ethnics backgrounds and who most hate each other, get along. And, of course, by the end of the movie, she is successful in doing so. Racism played a major role in this movie, seen as a negative aspect in the children s attitudes and mentalities. Racism is defined as negative behaviour on an incorrect assumption that one race is inherently superior to others. This is one of the many forms of discrimination which is defined as unfair actions directed against people based on their race, gender, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the teacher asked the class who knew what the Holocaust was, only one white person out of the entire body of students knew. That is when she realized that the students had very little knowledge about the outside world. This greatly related to Gordon W. Allport s theory. Allport was a psychologist who used questionnaires and interviews to measure the strength of individual prejudice, and who found a correlation between higher education and experiences such as knowledge about cultures, traveling, etc, and tolerance or the acceptance of differences between people. In this case, because the students were not taught and were unaware that there were similar cases to theirs, only on a greater scale, they continued to prejudge, and discriminate against each other. Later on in the movie though, because they begin to travel more and gain more knowledge about the outside world, they become more aware and realize that they should change. In addition, three other theorists ideas play a role in the movie. The first one is Frances Aboud, who believes that children first learn prejudice from the media, family, friends, etc, when they are bombarded with negative images. In this movie, the girl Eva is a perfect example of how she changed the way she sees people. Since she was a little girl, her father used to tell her that she had to fight for their people as the ancestors fought against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Children With Leukemia One day while reading the paper, Karen Loucks, the founder of Project Linus, discovered an article on a young girl who was diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. She had a security blanket that she took with her to two years of intensive chemotherapy. When she began chemo, 97% of her bone marrow had cancerous cells. Chemo rid this child of cancer, but she still endures nausea, loss of hair, and high fevers. After reading about the leukemia patient in the paper, she decided to go to the Rocky Mountain Children s Cancer Center with six freshly crocheted blankets. She decided to present the idea to a man named Dr. Edward Arenson. He loved the idea, and took her to children receiving infusions. Each of them took one for themselves, receiving comfort from this object. After delivering the blankets, Karen asked Ed to estimate how many children he sees a year, and he said about 100. On the drive home, she decided to make an organization for children in the Rocky Mountain Children s Hospital that would donate blankets to those struggling through their experience with cancer. When she told her crocheting group, The Hooker s Club, about this idea, a woman by the name of Shirley Hardin decided to donate the first blanket to the cause. After that one donation, the organization began to take off! Karen decided to go to the local newspaper press and get Project Linus in the newspaper. It is essential to always preserve the relationship because it is vital to the client s success of treatment. It is also imperative to consider the way in which information is delivered to clients and their family or caregivers. One must eliminate jargoning while attempting to communicate with clients. When evaluating a client you are wondering and determining the type of treatment or intervention you would like to introduce. As each client is different, what works for client A may not be effective with client B. In determining the type of intervention there should be a certain level of research along with the gained professional and educational knowledge obtained. While researching treatments there are bound to be a multitude of fad treatments. It is important to research and steer away from alternate treatments also known as AltTs. These treatments are those that attempt to mimic ABA interventions but are not scientifically found. There has been little or no research provided, they have no scientific data, or they may be unsupported. Very few if any have cohesive research studies on entire treatment packages. Using any of these treatments would be deemed unethical. That is why research is key. A lot of AltTs disguise themselves as ABA; when in fact ABA is a science and science is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. When he abuses, rapes, and destroys her innocence, he abuses and hurts himself as a helpless man whom his little child embodies. Considering his past, Cholly s rape of his daughter makes more sense. Pecola represents Cholly as a child. She is an ugly little helpless girl who is rejected by everyone. Whenever cholly sees her, he remembers his childhood as a helpless child . Being rejected by his father when he goes to meet him is similar to the way Pecola is rejected by everyone. He feels revulsion towards her. Instead of feeling sympathy, he feels revulsion. Cancer tops the charts as one of the leading causes of death in the United States and around the world (antibody Drug Conjugates). Early stages of cancer treatment often involve surgery and radiation therapy. However, chemotherapy drugs, often a last resort, are leading the market in therapeutics for cancer treatment. This therapeutic approach is able to deliver cytotoxic compounds directly to the site of interest, via linker attachment with cytotoxic compound and antibodies. There are many benefits to ADCs including increased efficacy of future and current marketed cytotoxic compounds. For example, Bayer has exclusive licenses to ImmunoGen maytansinoid TAP technology. The exclusive license grants Bayer the rights to develop treatments only targeting mesothelin (Cancer Drug Developers Considering ImmunoGen s Tap Technology). Having poor health can cause homelessness. On the flip side, being homeless can also cause poor health. Being homeless brings a list of complications including limited access to getting proper health care. This causes the health of the homeless population in the United States to be worse than that of the general population. Common health problems in the homeless population include: mental health problems, substance abuse problems, bronchitis and pneumonia, problems caused by being outdoors, wound and skin infections, along with the complications that follow each of the listed problems (Medicine Plus, 2016). Along with the list of problems previously stated, many homeless women are victims of domestic or sexual abuse. Children often have high rates of emotional and behavioral problems, many times caused from having witnessed abuse. Studies have shown 31 46% report having a chronic medical problem. Abraham Lincoln And National Identity America is a curious amalgamation of a country, with a unique national identity that is uniform in its ideals of liberty yet just as diverse as the cultures it represents. This strong sense of national character is the defining attribute that allows America to prosper against all unlikelihoods. Although America occasionally falls victim to internal divisions, the opposing sides still share a common culture, which gives hope for reconciliation and allows the country to succeed in improbable situations. Emanuel Leutze s Washington Crosses the Delaware is a dramatization of a famous moment in American history where the Patriots rowed across the Delaware River under the cover of darkness and under the leadership of their general, George Washington. In his painting, Leutze is uses pathos of the light versus the dark to evoke national pride. The dichotomy of the two extremes is very well entrenched in the American consciousness, and therefore a feature of interest is the background, which has a gradient of light to dark as the observer views the image from left to right. However, George Washington and his men are moving from right to left, and therefore they are moving away from the dark and approaching the light. The light thus gains an additional meaning as a representation of freedom and liberty, as the Revolutionary War that they were partaking in was fought against the oppression and tyranny of the British towards their American colonies. Additionally, while Washington makes a prominent figure in the foreground, the background also portrays a few dozen men in boats whose direction can best be called ambivalent. While Leutze s portrayal is a glorification of American history and undoubtedly of Washington himself, the ambivalence of the men further portrays the strength of Washington s convictions in the common American value of liberty, even in the face of the harsh conditions that affected he and his men in their fight for ... France was also advancing in medicine and attempting to progress far in technology to contribute to this field. He wanted to discover the true essence and the mystery behind crystals. Little did Pasteur know that his research of crystals would result in France s advancement in the scientific field. Pasteur s research project consisted of the two crystalline structures. One crystalline structure was of tartaric acid, a compound that is generally found in wine that is sour. The other crystalline structure that Pasteur focused on was called racemic acid, which was found in the vats that wine was made in. He focused on these two specific crystals because they had a unique feature. Many bounce the question of intelligence back and forth, asking whether today s adolescents have been able to maintain the brainpower compared to older generations or have let the virtues of cleverness plummet. The argument is further complicated by the unresolved question to whether being categorized dumbest signifies holding the least knowledge or lacking the capacity and ability to think critically. Despite the claims that the presence of technology has affected today s generation by molding dumber and more uneducated people through the emergence of illiteracy and other incapabilities brought about by its presence, people under thirty are not the dumbest generation as they have utilized the presence of technology to their advantage in various aspects. Technology s presence in the lives of people has not yet grown malignant enough to cause devastating fractures in the rise of intelligence levels. Though many label others as dumb due to the idea embedded into their head that technology has put a halt to thinking for themselves, the idea itself is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cartel created a scarcity for diamond and stabilized the prices at a high level. This essay will be discussing the validity of the statement with reference to the market of the diamond industry, history of the diamond cartel, how the price of diamonds is determined, and the implications thereof. A cartel is a group of firms acting together...to limit output, raise prices, and increase economic profit. Therefore, the discovery of diamonds resulted in an overall decrease in the price and value of diamonds. Rhodes saw the diamond cartel as a solution to this problem. De Beers not only controlled the market in South Africa, but they also expanded their holdings to other parts of the world, such as, England and Israel. (Epstein, 1982:1) By 1929, when Sir Oppenheimer took control of De Beers, the transition between the actual mining to the distribution, which is controlled by the Central Selling Organizing (CSO), became centrally controlled. (Spar, 2006:197 198) By analysing the definition of monopoly, which ...is the exclusive right of a person, corporation or state to sell a particular commodity (Lerner, 1934:157), we can deduce that the diamond industry is a single price monopoly; in other words, De Beers created its own barriers to prevent others from entry by obtaining control of the supply of diamonds (Parkin et al., 2013:273) and selling at the same price to all its customers (Parkin et al., 2013:275). Since by definition, a monopoly consists of one entity, a monopolist has complete control of the supply of the commodity; therefore, it has market power and, thus, has the ability to control the prices. Schizophrenia is described to be a psychosis because it causes the victim to lose the ability to be in touch with society and its functions. Larvae emerge from the eggs in the intestine; and after invasion to the blood vessels, they can migrate into almost every part of the body. The usual destination is the liver via the portal tract, but sometimes the larvae pass through the liver barrier and reach the lungs and all the other viscera, where they transform into small cysts. The cyst of echinococcus is a rare finding in pelvic sites.Dissemination via lymphatic or systemic circulation has been implicated as a possible route to produce primary hydatid diseases outside the liver and lung.. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic development style could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot had led to three major changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing price of the peasants were raised a little while the government tried to lower the market price by increasing imports from its colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries (Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly improved the living standard of the poor. This indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the government and the rise of the party politics. Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet members could be untitled, which indicated a great progress for the Japanese democracy development. The rice riot also caused the strong opposition to the left wing ideology in the Japanese government. After the riot, most of the leaders in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid such a riot happening again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and strikes (Morgan 2011, 125 134). Change is eternal. The changes that we experience come because of certain events that take place in life, or oftentimes just because of maturity. Whatever changes that transpire, it is important to embrace them, as life goes on. Ray Bradbury s novel Dandelion Wine embodies these same aspects of change through its central characters, Doug and Tom Spaulding. The way that they exemplify this idea of continual change is through their lives during the summer of 1928. During this period, Doug and Tom watch change influence their lives as well as their community with the changes they see around them, the people, and the changes with themselves. Doug and Tom experience change in their lives through the events that coincide around them. In retrospect, both boys recognize that just in the summer, changes arise that they would admittedly never have foreseen. Beginning in chapter thirteen, the Happiness Machine reaches its end. Although this creation had not been around for long, the boys were most certainly disappointed to see the Happiness Machine reach its end. In the story, while Douglas is looking into the family rug, he cannot help notice that certain parts look like the Happiness Machine burning up. No ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Metaphysical Realm Of Garbage The Metaphysical Realm of Garbage My volunteer experience at Howling Timbers included cleaning and preparing meals for the animals using expired produce donated from local grocery stores. My work started with sorting the new shipments of goods into categories and rotating them with the old, molding fruits and vegetables that would get used in the evening. During meal preparation, I cut off the fuzzy, moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and put the salvageable portions into food bins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders, the scraps into a compost pile. I asked Brenda if larger corporations gave Howling Timbers their expired produce and learned that the food donations at Howling Timbers come from local grocery stores. Brenda explains to the managers at these larger grocers that the food they receive is only for animal consumption. Still, they deny her the food and dispose of their expired goods in the dumpster out of sight, out of mind. Slavoj Zizek says in Examined Life that Part of our daily perception of reality is that this [shit/garbage] disappears from our world. When you go to the toilet, shit disappears. You flush it. Of course, rationally you know it s there in canalization and so on, but at a certain level of your most elementary experience, it disappears from your world (Zizek, 2008). In a metaphorical sense, thoughts are like garbage. Perhaps, these large corporations know that the products they dispose of will go to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
