Comparing John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu Essay
The Enlightenment was a time of change in Europe. There were many new ideas, and various
influential thinkers that inspired new invention and also inspired revolutions. All of these thinkers had
different views on people and government and different views of people and how they act. Many of
these authoritative individuals thoughts still influence us even today. Many of their ideas are used in
government and also as guidelines for people to live their lives by. John Locke and Baron de
Montesquieu both helped to build our constitution and we borrowed some of their ideas for how we
live our lives in America. John Locke had the idea that people were born with the three natural rights:
life, liberty, and property. We as an early country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1748 he published On the Spirit of Laws which was a book describing his views on government. It
goes into detail about how his idea of three branches of government and the separation of powers in
the government would work. He also cites example of governments similar to his idea of separated
powers. He also wrote about empires before his time and how their laws influenced many countries.
He also pointed out what laws worked and the laws that were fair and just to the people. He also
alluded to parts of earlier governments that demonstrated his ideas and thoughts. The views of these
two influential thinkers were considered very radical in their time because their views were radical
and very different from any form of government that anyone back then had ever heard of or dreamed
possible. They thoughts that a government run by the people would be chaotic. They had never heard
of any more separation of power than in England, where it was a limited monarchy. Their views on
people were also influential especially Locke s views. He gave people the idea that they are more than
just slaves for the government and that they should have some say in how their government is run.
These ideas and many more inspired revolutions that were sparked by these two eccentric individuals.
Locke and Montesquieu s thoughts also still ring true today. They are the basis for not only the U.S
but many other governments as well. That

Dangers Of Driving And Driving Essay
Legal Driving Age Controversy Here s a scenario: seventeen year old Ashley has mandatory play
practice at her high school tonight. Because her mom and dad are at work, she doesn t have anyone to
take her. Usually, in an event like this, she would be able to drive herself to school. Except, the state
has just released a law ensuring that anyone under the age of eighteen cannot operate a car. The state
legislature should not raise the legal driving age to eighteen because it gives teenagers the
independence they have been longing for, parents will no longer have to chauffeur their children
around, along with the teens running errands and performing tasks for their parents, and car ownership
and driving teaches teenagers the values of trustworthiness and responsibility. The ownership of a
motor vehicle and the ability to drive provides teenagers with a sense of independence that they desire.
As the teenagers grow up, they will inevitably have to live their own life at some time, and driving and
car ownership is the introduction to this. Teenagers need the feeling that they are growing up, and don
t need to rely on their parents as much as they once did. In the article, Reasons That Teenagers Should
Be Able to Drive , it states, Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to transition from
childhood into adulthood independently. Having access to a driver s license means that your child can
get from point A to point B alone and this is of major importance to

Synthesis Essay On Fast Food
Over the past few decades obesity levels in the world have risen. This is largely due to the lack of
exercise as technology has become more prevalent and increasingly poor diets because unhealthy food
is cheaper and more convenient. One way to help solve the obesity crisis would be to implement a fat
tax in the United States like other countries have so that fatty foods would no longer be a cheaper
option and families would be encouraged to eat healthier. Although food is not the only cause of
obesity and fat taxes would cost companies and consumers more money (OPP), taxing soda alone can
help take enough sugar out of children s diets to set them on a healthy path for life and when
combined with overall better diets can transform American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Adults on average need to consume about 2000 calories a day to maintain good health; however, many
people of all ages are ingesting far more calories than they need. The most threatening aspect of
America s excessive calorie intake is the effect it is having on children. According to source B a third
of children aged two to fifteen are already overweight. This is dangerous because obesity leads to
more health conditions and all this sugary intake is quickly weakening America. One can of soda has
between thirty three and thirty five grams of sugar per serving which is more than a child s
recommended total daily intake (Source A). Taking soda out of American s diets or at least
dramatically reducing it can help begin to reduce the obesity problem in America. In source C,
Thomas Isaac says, the fight against fat has just begun which applies to this proposed tax on soda.
Soda contributes large amounts to unhealthy habits and now is the time to act. Instituting a fat tax in
the United States is important because worldwide obesity levels are rising. If obesity levels continue
to rise as they are predicted to the future of humanity is at risk. The damage being overweight does to
the human body is reason enough want to reverse the trends. There are so many opportunities in the
world and everyone should have the opportunity to live up to their potential but by continuing these
bad habits

Magical Realism In The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
Does The Metamorphosis belong under the magical realism genre? The Metamorphosis by Franz
Kafka is a short story describing the transformation of a lonely traveling salesman, Gregor, to a
gigantic insect. Besides describing Gregor s physical metamorphosis, the story also depicts Gregor s
mental metamorphosis from a human to an insect. In addition to Gregor s personal metamorphosis,
Kafka illustrates Gregor s family s transformation from tolerating Gregor to treating him with hatred,
disrespect, and disgust. In Bruce Holland Rogers s article What Is Magical Realism, Really? , he
defined magical realism as having repetitions in time and combining magical and ordinary elements.
Throughout Kafka s description of these events, it is clear that The Metamorphosis should be
categorized under magical realism because it combines magical and realistic elements and uses
repetition of time and distortion of identity, similar to many other magical realism works such as
Axolotl by Julio Cortázar and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Magical realism stories combine realistic and magical details to illustrate a real world with imaginary
elements. For example, in A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings , the old angel has huge buzzard
wings, dirty and half plucked, forever entangled in the mud ( A Very Old 1). The wings are clearly
magical elements, but they are forever entangled in the mud , a realistic element. This entanglement
between magical and realistic elements is a common literary device found in magical realism.
Therefore, Kafka s combination of magical elements, such as Gregor s insect body, and realistic
elements like Gregor s family and bedroom, supports the classification of The Metamorphosis under
the genre of magical realism. When Gregor woke up from unpleasant dreams in the beginning of the
story, he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect (89). This is clearly a magical
element, as it is obviously impossible for a human to turn into an insect in one night (or any amount of
time). Although Gregor goes through very dramatic changes, his regular human bedroom remains the
same. Aside from having an insect body, Gregor s surroundings, such as his

The 1920 s
The 1920 s were a difficult time for those in the agriculture industry. It was a time of industrialization,
however the farmers were unable to keep up. Furthermore this caused new laws to be made and old
laws to be vetoed. Farmers were unable to repay their debts and were put out of business. This caused
a decline in the goods being both imported and exported. This led to the great depression that began in
1929.
The 1920 s was a time of change and industrialization for America. During this time the agriculture
industry was both growing with new technologies, but declining the amount of sustainable farmers.
They were expected to industrialize their farms buying new expensive equipment, that forced them out
of business.During this time the farmers were having problems paying off their crops, and were
getting loans for short periods of time. They were also in high hopes of the government finding a way

The McCumber act of 1922 dramatically raised the price of tariffs, making it hard for european
countries to pay off their war debt (para 7 of Fordney McCumber Tariff). This act was made to
increase the amount of income that the United States would receive as a whole, because of the
agricultural decline in America the entire world is under distress. This act failed 7 years later in 1929.
In 1928 president coolidge vetoed the McNary Haugen Bill This was the law that allowed the
government to sell the farmers surplus to outside countries at world price(Adler, pg. 568). This was
the government s attempt to help the farmers in any way possible. This crisis had not only affected the
farmers and their families, but the entire world. Without the farmers ability to produce goods for
consumers, there would be no exporting goods, only the importation of goods, causing a major
economic decline. The veto of this bill helped keep all surplus goods inside the United States to lower
the costs of importing

Examples Of Glory In Beowulf
The Anglo Saxons were Germanic tribes from the German regions of Angeln and Saxony that had
moved over to Britain. They had conquered the Jutes and Frisians from Denmark. In the time period
where the Anglo Saxon s were living and thriving (410 660 A.D.), glory was one of the more
important points of their beliefs. They wanted glory for their king, glory for their warrior tribe, glory
for themselves, and finally, glory for their ancestors. Glory was the thread that kept the Anglo Saxon
culture, the warrior clans, and epic heroes, such as Beowulf himself, truly glorious. Glory kept the
Anglo Saxon culture important in the Anglo Saxons lifestyle and truly glorious. For example the mead

Though in Beowulf there is no war going on between two tribes, Beowulf fights many supernatural
monsters such as the sea monsters and Grendel. When Beowulf was sinking down to the bottom of the
lake to fight Grendel s mother, he was not only going to fight Grendel s mom. She had various sea
monsters in her cave to help tear Beowulf apart. Luckily for Beowulf, the only thing that kept him
alive was his unbreakable chain mail. He does fight the sea monsters, but his main goal was to kill
Grendel s mom. ...a bewildering horde came at him from the depths, droves of sea beasts who attacked

Separation Of Public Spaces In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black communities.
Laws were put into place to solidify the separation of the races while providing equal opportunity to
all. However, these laws, known as the Jim Crow laws, were ratified to give the illusion of equality
while allowing for separation to continue. Though the image these laws held gave the impression of
equality, while the people did not hold equal status. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee explores the
racial tensions of separate but equal throughout the novel and how these ideas affected the daily lives
of those who lived during this time. Separation of public spaces and the relationships between the
people themselves are small examples of the realities of the laws effects on real people in the South.
The Jim Crow laws perpetuated the racial tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by
sacrificing equality for the social norm of separation.
The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how each
of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of white
individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting for the
trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs, began to
come in (Lee 186). The physical separation continued as the Colored balcony ran along three walls of
the courtroom

Discrimination In The Hunger Of Memory, By Richard Rodriguez
Nobody ever gets remembered for displaying uniformity in their race, culture, and actions. Too often
in today s society are people scared to pursue their passion due to the stereotypes assigned by normal
people. In the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory, by Richard Rodriguez, and the short story
Superman and Me , by Sherman Alexie both authors face situations where they have to make a choice
to stand out or concur to the stereotypes associated with each of their cultures. While the excerpt from
The Hunger of Memory discusses the difficulties of sticking out as an intelligent Indian man and
Superman and Me discusses the hardships of not adhering to normal Indian standards as a kid growing
up, likewise both stories share a theme of overcoming hardships and eventually helping others.
In the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory Rodriguez faced adversity early on in his life. As a little
kid he described himself to be a socially disadvantaged child (Rodriguez 1). This was due to the
...extreme public alienation he and his family faced (Rodriguez 1). Being Native American in today s
society makes one stick out like a sore thumb. Discrimination is still very much alive today.
Assimilating what it s like to be any race other than caucasian is a task that we are too inadequate to
imagine. Following a passion will in some cases require losing things in return. Instead of pursuing a
regular job Rodriguez stuck to writing. When he began this book the ...words wouldn t come

sacrifice proved to be nothing to him as writing was his life. His choice to persevere subsequently led
him to towns such New York, Los Angeles, and even a cocktail party in Bel Air! With all this being
said his works eventually led to non existent relationship with his parents. This really affects
Rodriguez emotionally as he says the separation I endure with my parents is a loss (Rodriguez 2). His
parents ridiculed his decisions and that ultimately led to the absent relationship.

Holbrook Perspective On Democracy
Holbrook s and Rose s perspectives on democracy is that some people are taking advantage of what
they have which isn t fair for the people who struggle to maintain their lifestyle with less, while other
people have more opportunities/privileges. Holbrook s response on democracy is that she feels that
they should have equal rights, just as she does. She finds it wrong that the government is careless
when it comes to the people that they think don t need the resources, supplies, when they really do. To
add on to, Holbrook writes on page 114, That same government that issues us two rolls per day, 94%
of the days since our last 6% cut. Two rolls. (Page 114). Holbrook says this to imply and emphasize
the fact that the government is stubborn and won t give more than two rolls per day which will. In
addition, Holbrook states, The same government that issues food stamps for kool aid, popsicles, and

Aphasia Vocabulary
According to sources, Aphasia is described as a communication disorder that usually affects the use of
acquired spoken or written language (Halpern Goldfarb, 2013). Patients that have been diagnosed with
aphasia in general usually have difficulties with auditory understanding, reading comprehension,
written language difficulties and of course difficulty in spoken language expression (Halpern
Goldfarb, 2013). One of the most essential areas that patients with aphasia want to see improvements
in is the ability to have functional spoken communication (Mayer, 2003). It is vital that clinicians

A topic of discussion researchers and studies have investigated proves that patients that are
categorized under fluent aphasia are patients that display difficulty with using their thoughts to
formulate language that is understood (Halpern Goldfarb, 2013). With that being said individuals with
fluent aphasia usually produce speech that is normal in terms of length, articulation and do not require
much effort to state verbally (Halpern Goldfarb, 2013). While that may be simple for patients
diagnosed with fluent aphasia, communicating thoughts for listeners to understand is much more
difficult (Raymer Kohen, 2003). Individuals that have anomic aphasia are well aware of mistakes
made and are usually not successful when trying to correct their errors (Halpern Goldfarb, 2013).
When errors are not successfully repaired these individuals become discouraged (Halpern Goldfarb,
2013). The idea of spoken language becomes much more difficult for these individuals because, these
individuals know what exactly it is they want to produce but, their diagnoses makes it very difficult to
do so (Halpern Goldfarb,

Passover and Easter Essay

Christianity and Judaism are the few examples of religions that are originated from Western
Traditions. These religions take different approaches to representational art and iconography which is
found in their religious festivals. The Christian celebration of Easter and the Jewish Passover
differentiate in their approaches to these icons in the history, the celebration and the symbols used
during the commemoration of these holidays.

When Jesus arrived to Golgotha, He was nailed to the cross and soon after dies. The symbol of Jesus
crucifixion is what Christians live by. It represents Jesus sacrificing his life to save humanity from
their evil sins. When He died, He was taken down from the cross and was buried in a tomb, where He
resurrected into Heaven and was seated at the right Hand of God. Jesus resurrection symbolizes two
things. First, it proves to Christians that Jesus is the Son of God (Curtis). In the Bible, Paul affirmed
that Christ is declared to be the Son of God by the resurrection from the dead (Rom. 1:4). Second,
Jesus resurrection represented an assurance that all of humanity is saved and forgiven for their sins
(Curtis).
Passover and Easter also have representational art and iconography that are displayed in how the
religious festivals are celebrated by Jewish people and Christians.
Jewish people celebrate Passover with a ritual dinner called Seder, which represents the meal that the
Israelites ate before fleeing Egypt (Oxtoby 123). In a Passover Seder, the head of the family begins the
ceremony by sanctifying the holiday with a Qiddush, or benediction, over a cup of wine (Tobias 88).
While reciting a prayer, raw vegetables dipped in vinegar, a shank bone and a hard boiled egg are
presented to the family members. Then, a second cup of wine is poured and at this time, the Passover
liturgy, or Haggadah, begins (Oxtoby 124). The

characters to influence the people around them to behave in a friendly way. Specifically, in the case of
Goetz, Gladwell describes Goetz is Surrounded on all sides by graffiti covered walls (233). According
to this statement, Gladwell believes that the graffiti on the subways and buses greatly influenced the
behavior of Goetz. Clearly, Goetz had a preconception that the place was unsafe because of the
presence of the offensive graffiti. As a result, Goetz behavior was not purely influenced by the
cognitive associations, but by both cognitive association and the environment. On the contrary, if

Rap Music Video
ANALYSIS
Anaconda can be identified as a pop music video and has characteristics of rap, and hip hop. This can
be ascertained by analysing the music video in detail.
Mise en scene of the music video looks at the props, costumes, hair and makeup, location, colour and
lighting. These elements will determine the type of music video.
Lighting and colour
The lighting in a music video can create different emotions and views and allows the audience to be
able to identify the type of genre, for expel, rock music videos lighting tend to be dark and gloomy,
while pop music videos are usually well light, bright and vibrant. Lighting is important as it sets the
mood of the music video, it also enhances the artist. Bright lighting draws the audience ... Show more

The costume is also important because it has an influence on what is popular and mainstream as well
as what the audiences will dress like. Pop music videos, the artists are clothed in mainstream,
fashionable clothes or clothing labels. The artists in pop music videos usually wear what is popular at
the time and the target audience are usually able to relate. Costumes also depend on the artist and their
image, for example when you hear about lady gaga, you think about extravagant clothing, on the other
hand, Nicki Minaj is known for being a bit over the top in how she appears but she generally wears
mainstream popular clothing. In Anaconda this is clearly seen when Nicki Minaj is seen clothed in
Balmain and Alexandra Mcqueen which is reflective of the lyrics and the narrative of the music video
these names appeal to the viewers as they are designer names. Ncki Minaj is also seen as a Barbie doll
with long lashes, known for wearing bright colours, especially when it come to her hair, this makes
her identifiable, cause as soon as you see the artist your able to know who the music video is which is

Narcotics Anonymous Meeting Analysis
Through my observations of the Narcotics Anonymous meeting I believe that my analysis could be
beneficial to the realm of medicine. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014) released a
study that displayed, health care providers wrote 259 million prescriptions for painkillers in 2012,
enough for every American adult to have a bottle of pills. Considering the mass amount of
prescriptions being written nationwide, it is not surprising that one of the members in the NA meeting
I attended was able to easily obtain painkillers from her doctor. The specific interaction I encountered

The word epidemic itself spreads fear throughout society, however fluctuations in drug use are
considered epidemics, which may not instill fear into the general public. Due to the fact that the CDC
considers opioid overdose as a national epidemic, it may be confused to what this epidemic entails.
This is not saying that the misuse and rising overdoses due to opioid painkillers is not a serious
problem, it just may render the severity of the problem. In addition, because the CDC does consider
the rise of overdoses due to painkillers an epidemic, the access to treatment needs to be more widely
available. Through one of the interactions I had during my time at the NA meeting, I was able to
understand that many people feel as though they do not or did not have access to help. Dan Mangan

majority of Americans believe that lack of access to care for people suffering from substance abuse is
a problem in the United States. In this, those who work in medicine should take from my supporting
observations and numerous studies that access to recovery programs need to become more widely
available. If the United States is going to consider the use of opioid painkillers as an epidemic, action
needs to be taken to assist addicts and educate the nation on the effects of these

Investigating The Logic Behind Mergers And Merger Between...
Scholars have developed theories that have attempted to explain the logic behind mergers and
takeover. DePamphilis (2010) notes that there are several theories and hypothesis linked to mergers
and takeovers some of which include efficiency theory, agency theory, diversification hypothesis and
market power hypothesis. This paper will analyze the efficiency and agency theories on the merger
between the US Airways Group and the AMR Corporations that led to the creation of American
Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) because they offer an appropriate rationale for the merger based on the
outcome.
According to Risberg (2013), the efficiency theory argues that mergers are organizational strategies
that are implemented to achieve three types of synergies, namely financial synergy, operational
synergy and managerial synergy. Generally, the acquirer firm will have considered the target s capable
assets and resources and presume that they can be beneficial to its own development. The synergy
concept reinforces this idea when it comes to mergers. For instance, the synergy concept argues that
mergers allow the combining of the efficient parts of the companies and the discarding of parts that
are considered redundant. Johnson (2014) observes that synergy occurs in varying ways, for instance,
when companies combine their different competitive advantages, potential tax benefit, or high
manpower. Any factor that raises the market value of the merging firms is called a synergy. This
means that the

Persuasive Speech About Friendship
Previously dim lights now shining with the force of a thousand suns.
A rhythmic beating of a ball bouncing off the hardwood floor.
Sneakers squeaking off in the distance.
Grown men yelling obscenities at the free teenage labor.
Fights being had on Twitter over children from a distance.
A government agency looming, not looking to govern, yet things might change forever nonetheless.
Welcome, friends. College basketball is back.
I would say it is better than ever, but that would be a lie. We are friends. Friends do not fib to each
other. They tell the truth, even if it hurts, while hoping whatever negatives come forth do not infringe
on a lifelong friendship.
College basketball is kind of like your friend from high school who never grew up. Our gender binary
friend (using he for the sake of keeping it simple the rest of the way) clings to a glory most stopped
long ago caring to relive. He s stomping his feet, drinking a Natty Ice, and talking about that time

Bilingualism Is A For A Regular Way Between Researchers...
To begin with, bilingualism is a term which is not used in a regular way between researchers and
theoreticians. For example Macnamara (1967; cited in Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines
bilinguals as those have at least one of the skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) even to a
lower degree in their second language. At the other end of the scale Oestreicher (1974; cited in
Cummins and Swain, 1986:07) defines bilinguals as those who show complete mastery of two
different languages without interference . According to Bloomfield (1933; cited in Romaine, 1989:10)
bilingualism is a native like control of two languages , it is the ability to speak two languages
perfectly. Furthermore, bilingualism was analyzed into four levels in another paper: individual, family,
societal, and school levels (McCarty, 2010). At the educational level, McCarty (2012) defines
bilingual education as bilingualism at the school level. It is not a matter of speaking two languages at
home, which is bilingualism at the family level. Bilingual education is teaching in two languages in a
school, more than one language as the medium of instruction, that is to say the use of another
language for students to learn regular school subjects. Additionally, Appel and Muysken (1987:60)
define bilingual education as the opportunity to be educated in two languages: the language of the
home and the language of other groups in the community. However, for them these two languages do

Determination of a Rate Equation Essay
Determination of a Rate Equation
Rate equation has the form rate = k [A]x[B]y which shows how the rate of a chemical reaction
depends on the concentration of the reactants
(A B) and the rate constant k. The rate equation normally indicates what species are involved in the
rate determining step and how many species are involved.
A rate equation is used to describe how the concentration of a product increases or the concentration
of the reactants decreases with time, the equation also indicates how the concentration of one or more
reactants directly affects the rate. Occasionally it can even be the concentration of a product that

The age of technology has changed communication in both our personal and professional lives with

The Decline Of The Ottoman Empire
How the Decline of the Ottoman Empire Led to the Armenian Genocide
Extended Essay in History

May 2016

ABTRACT
Through the investigation of the changes occurring from the first European presence in the Muslim
world to the end of the Ottoman Empire, this essay attempts to answer why the Armenian genocide
occurred. The Ottoman Empire started its decline when Napoleon entered Egypt in 1798. Napoleon
brought along with him armies but also a new culture. The British did the same with Moghul India.
The elite and people in positions of power were impressed by what the Europeans and the Americans
were doing and seeing how powerful and successful they were. The Turks in the Ottoman Empire
wanted the same. The Young Turks overthrew the Sultan of the time and started a reform of the
Ottoman Empire to try to salvage it. The Young Turks also believed that all people regardless of
religion or ethnicity deserved the same rights.
The Armenians were one of the ethnicities that were in the minority. They obtained more rights when
the policy was put in place. Before the Armenians received their right they were rebelling against the
Ottomans. This was frightening to the majority. Massacres of the minorities, especially the Armenians
started well before 1915, but the killings progressed in 1915. Many of the Armenians were deported
and forced to leave their homes. In 1915

that these progressions have certain benefits as well. That is not the point of the essay, though. He

more or less murdering a pleading and terrified machine. Carr sees this as a warning to the viewers of
losing parts of themselves that make them inherently human to machines. However, Carr neglects a
part of today s internet use that has had a great impact: the ease with which people can now share their
experiences, thoughts, and creations. For example, many think of art as something inherently human,
and it is now far easier than ever for people to share their creative pursuits and find new inspiration.
When people use drawing tablets and sound software and photo editors, these things progress more.
The plethora of social media accounts dedicated to creative pursuits influences the way many use
computers. Another use to consider would be social media such as Instagram and Facebook. It has
millions of users, many of whom share their daily experiences. Human thoughts, experiences, and
creations are archived in massive amounts on the internet, and this type of use helps develop its
progression in a significant way. While today s technology is less advanced than that shown in 2001, I
think it is worth noting the ways the internet helps people become more

Proverbs 25:2 says, It is the glory of God to conseal things, but the glory of kings is to search things

Quantitative research methods are best because they use quantity data to obtain results from the

Weddings, A rite of passage
A rite of passage is a public ceremony that marks, recognizes, celebrates or is believed to actually
cause a change in a person and her or his status, usually brought about or related to increasing age
(Peoples, Bailey). Almost every culture has rituals that signal a change in life. Marriage is one of the
most common rites of passage in any culture. Weddings and marriage ceremonies are clear transitions
from adolescence to adulthood. Some form of marriage is known to have existed in all human
societies. Its traditional function in most of these societies has been to stabilize sexual relations and to
unite a man and a woman in order to provide care for the young. In addition, marriage has linked and
allowed for economic exchanges between different kin groups and has served as the primary coming
of age ritual for women (Nelson). In America we are known for throwing lavish ceremonies and
expensive parties to celebrate the union between two people. I ve attended quite a few weddings and
participated in one during my lifetime thus far. Most weddings in the American culture follow the
same itinerary.
Before a wedding ceremony is thought of or takes place the couple preparing for marriage usually
separate from their families and begin to make a home together. During the separation phase from
each of his or her families an engagement occurs. A typical engagement consists of the man

The NBA Should Enforce a Hard Salary Cap
How many of you sports fans out there are sick of paying twenty five dollars for a lousy seat at an
NBA game? How many of you are sick of seeing the same teams in the finals every year? I m sure
there are thousands of you out there that feel this way, as do I. The way we can fix these problems is to
demand that the NBA enforce a hard salary cap. A hard salary cap would lower ticket prices, allow for
more teams to be more competitive and eliminate the possibility of any future lockouts. If the three

should not pay these outlandish ticket prices. A hard salary cap is the only thing that will lower

pay checks goodbye. But what do other people think.
Some people believe that NBA arenas will fill up in spite of high ticket prices. Just last year Michael
Jordan made 33.14 million dollars while the whole Chicago Bulls salary cap was 26.9 million, and all
season long seats were filled. That means to some that no matter the amount, people will continue to

To the people that believe this, I must remind them of Major League Baseball and the situation that
they faced just a few years back. First, players salaries skyrocketed to obscene levels, alienating their
average fan. Next, the players couldn t decide how to divide up their millions. Finally, they quit

As with any major issue there is always a debate with two sides. In San Francisco the divide is
between the soccer players and the environmentalists. The soccer players want more artificial turf
because it gives them a reliable safe and easy way to participate in the sport they love. The
environmentalists say that artificial turf fields are harmful to the community because they leach toxic
chemicals into the air and the water. Also, the use of turf in children s playgrounds exposes kids to
chemicals that are very harmful at a young age. The voters decided to install artificial turf fields. The
response was overwhelmingly positive from the soccer players but from the people who wanted the

was something that women were told was not for them. She opened many doors for women with her
amazing accomplishments and just as well she opened the eyes of men , showing them that just
because men do it doesn t mean that women can t do it just as well
Amelia Earhart s early life lead to her becoming an american icon, aviation pioneer, author, and the

Workplace Discrimination In America
Shaun Herman
DIT 4 TASK 3 Topic
12/8/15
Workplace discrimination is a problem in America. Some people in America claim that affirmative
action would solve that problem. The UK, India, and Canada already have forms of affirmative action
in place in their countries. It could be beneficial in America to use parts of affirmative action. The
solution to workplace discrimination in America is affirmative action because it forces governments
and businesses to favor members of a discriminated group in our American culture.
The problem of workplace discrimination in America is seen by some people as not a real problem,
but it is. The fact is that we the United States of America are not following what our legislature has put
into law. Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (CRA) of 1964 it is illegal for an employer to
discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex (gender), religion, or national origin. This applies to all
employment situations including hiring, firing, training, promoting, benefits, and wages (What is
Racial Discrimination in the Workplace? Examples, Statistics Cases. (n.d.)) Those words are all right
there in front of us however we as a society to not abide by them. The UK, Canada, and India all have
affirmative action plans in effect in their nations. Some different than others. In the UK ... Show more

It is an age old caste system that has certain people up a ladder of social classes and that is just apart
of the Indian culture. However, this system has something called quotas in their version of affirmative
action which means that in a particular job there has to be a certain amount of people from a certain
caste in that job. So for example if an employer has 20 jobs to fill 5 of those jobs are automatically
reserved for that certain caste class. However, according to the economist, The overall effects
therefore are probably limited, and certainly hard to

The Decline Of Teen Pregnancy Rates
Nancy Glynn
10, December 2015
Final Research Paper
English 110 07
The Decline In Teen Pregnancy Rates Over the last few decades the rates in teen pregnancy have been
a debate; did they rise over the past few years or did they actually decline? Contrary to some doctors
and politicians the numbers associated with teen pregnancy have decline over the last couple of years.
Although there are still people out there who believe this to be an issue it s made more of an issue than
it actually is. The ads and commercials are set out to scare teen agers into believing that were at an all
time high for this issue, but realistically its actually the exact opposite. Teen pregnancy rates haven t
dropped on there over the course of the years. There are a few major factors that have contributed a
great deal to this change. Those changes include but are not limited to: more resources being available
to these teenagers to prevent themselves from becoming pregnant, society is more open to talking
about this issue as well as the religion and culture change aspect of families today. Despite the beliefs
of others, teen pregnancy rates are at an all time low for the first time in decades. In fact there are a
few things that impacted the decline in teen pregnancy, one of which was the society has opened up to
this topic of conversation. It s not something that s kept behind closed door like it use to be. Talking
about sexual education in local school systems was a big impact on declining

The Common Theme Of Martyrdom Within The Death Of Socrates...
Deanna Rose Palevo Professor Heller ART 105 07 Final Term Paper 12/06/2016 The Common Theme
of Martyrdom within The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara When walking
through a museum, one notices the immense variation within every piece. Each work contains one or a
few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common themes may include,
but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and strength, heroism, death, and
beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief and death within two separate
pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go perfectly hand in hand. The Death of
Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an
entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
in New York City. The first piece I am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with
oil on canvas by a French artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story
of the trial of Socrates. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who constantly challenged
the beliefs and politics of his state. He sought to teach the youth of Athens his methods of philosophy
and politics. In 399 BC, Socrates was accused of impiety (specifically not believing in the gods that
Athens believed in) and corruption of youth. The jury of Athens decided that Socrates was guilty of

John Marshall Website
College websites serve a variety of purposes for prospective and current students, which include, but
are not limited to, generating information, data collection, and facilitating online transactions.
Accelerated accessibility of web presence through a variety of platforms, from desktops to
smartphones, propels websites to the forefront of many colleges introduction to prospective students.
The aesthetic composition of websites is as significant as is practicality in our modern technological
age, and mastery or shortcomings in either attribute can engender positive or negative assumptions
respectively from visitors. Approximately 80 percent of website visitors assume that the design of a
website is reflective of the entity it represents, according to researchers (Lowry 63). Subsequently, I
have decided to conduct an analysis of Atlanta s John Marshall Law School s (AJMLS) website
(Front) due to recent interactions with the site while applying for admission. During this essay, I will
explore the aesthetics, practicality, and inconsistencies inherent in the site when accessed on mobile
platforms as compared to desktops. John Marshall is an Atlanta based, private law school that was
founded in 1933, according to the About page on the website. ... Show more content on

Next, I will compare and contrast those characteristics to the mobile site, and finally, I will make
suggestions on how to reconcile the differences between the two platforms. Noting that the website
consists of dozens of links and there are word constraints of this essay, I will limit the scope of this
analysis to the Home page. Despite these margins, this analysis is relevant in other areas of the site, as
the template styled design maintains great consistency throughout the

Rhetorical Devices In Dover Beach
The poem Dover Beach is one that carries many deep themes that are exemplified through the use of
rhetorical devices. There is one theme, however, that stands out more that the rest and that is man and
the natural world. With the use of two specific rhetorical devices, the poem gains qualities that would
be sorely missed without them. The use of epithets throughout the poem allows the reader to grasp
what each of the described words is meant to convey. Symbolism in Dover Beach expands the
meaning of the poem as it provides the reader with a secondary vision to the connections made
between the lines. The relationship between man and nature is vital to the poem. With the use of
rhetorical devices, the reader is able to truly understand

LEEPAnd Why Is It Done
What is a LEEP and why is it done? A LEEP is done when you have an abnormal cervical cancer
screening result; it is one way of removing the abnormal cells from your cervix. Your gynecologists
dose this by using a thin wire that acts like a scalpel. Electric current is passed through the loop, which
cuts away a thin layer of the cervix. How is LEEP performed? The procedure should be done when
you are not on your period so that the doctor can have a better view of your cervix. Most of the time
LEEP is done in the doctor s office, this only takes a few minutes so you should be in and out. To have
the procedure done you will be lying on you back with your legs in stirrups. Then the doctor will
insert a speculum into your vagina in the same way as for a pelvic exam. A local anesthesia will be
used so you don t feel pain. This will be given through a needle attached to a syringe. You are most
likely going to feel a slight sting, then a dull ache or cramp. Then the loop is inserted into your vagina
to the cervix. There will be different sizes and shapes of the loops that will be used. There is a small
chance that you may feel faint during the procedure. If you do feel faint tell your doctor immediately.

Crossbreeding And Religion
Our Pleasure Or Theirs?
Life. Mixed Families. Morals. People worldwide are debating and battle over the effects of
crossbreeding. Crossbreeding is the science of altering DNA through the process of breeding two
different animals. In order for these mutations to be possible the number of chromosomes each animal
has must match. Some well known examples of this include the liger which is a cross between a lion
and tiger, and the beefalo which is a mutation of a cow and a buffalo. Many people crossbreed for
various reasons. However this practice has superb effects and also many disastrous effects. Do people
do this for the animals or for humans. It is the main reason for debates. Does it help or hurt the animal.

One main con is how unpredictable it can be. The size is hard to guess, temperaments can be the
opposite of what you want and some unexpected genetic disorders can occur. Animals with these
problems often become a financial burden to the owner as they become expensive to care for. With the
size being so big or small effects can happen. If the animal is big with a wild temperament it can
attack and kill. This is bad and not what the breeder wanted. If it is too small it can get health
problems that they normally wouldn t get. And this is why crossbreeding must be stopped, the animal
can be harmed. And for what cause. HUMAN PLEASURE. If it helps the animal crossbreeding is
amazing but when it hurts the animal it has to be

  • 2. Comparing John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu Essay The Enlightenment was a time of change in Europe. There were many new ideas, and various influential thinkers that inspired new invention and also inspired revolutions. All of these thinkers had different views on people and government and different views of people and how they act. Many of these authoritative individuals thoughts still influence us even today. Many of their ideas are used in government and also as guidelines for people to live their lives by. He also pointed out what laws worked and the laws that were fair and just to the people. He also alluded to parts of earlier governments that demonstrated his ideas and thoughts. The views of these two influential thinkers were considered very radical in their time because their views were radical and very different from any form of government that anyone back then had ever heard of or dreamed possible. They thoughts that a government run by the people would be chaotic. They had never heard of any more separation of power than in England, where it was a limited monarchy. Their views on people were also influential especially Locke s views. He gave people the idea that they are more than just slaves for the government and that they should have some say in how their government is run. • 3. Dangers Of Driving And Driving Essay Legal Driving Age Controversy Here s a scenario: seventeen year old Ashley has mandatory play practice at her high school tonight. Because her mom and dad are at work, she doesn t have anyone to take her. Usually, in an event like this, she would be able to drive herself to school. Except, the state has just released a law ensuring that anyone under the age of eighteen cannot operate a car. The state legislature should not raise the legal driving age to eighteen because it gives teenagers the independence they have been longing for, parents will no longer have to chauffeur their children around, along with the teens running errands and performing tasks for their parents, and car ownership and driving teaches teenagers the values of trustworthiness and responsibility. The ownership of a motor vehicle and the ability to drive provides teenagers with a sense of independence that they desire. As the teenagers grow up, they will inevitably have to live their own life at some time, and driving and car ownership is the introduction to this. Teenagers need the feeling that they are growing up, and don t need to rely on their parents as much as they once did. In the article, Reasons That Teenagers Should Be Able to Drive , it states, Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to transition from childhood into adulthood independently. Having access to a driver s license means that your child can get from point A to point B alone and this is of major importance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Synthesis Essay On Fast Food Over the past few decades obesity levels in the world have risen. This is largely due to the lack of exercise as technology has become more prevalent and increasingly poor diets because unhealthy food is cheaper and more convenient. One way to help solve the obesity crisis would be to implement a fat tax in the United States like other countries have so that fatty foods would no longer be a cheaper option and families would be encouraged to eat healthier. Although food is not the only cause of obesity and fat taxes would cost companies and consumers more money (OPP), taxing soda alone can help take enough sugar out of children s diets to set them on a healthy path for life and when combined with overall better diets can transform American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adults on average need to consume about 2000 calories a day to maintain good health; however, many people of all ages are ingesting far more calories than they need. The most threatening aspect of America s excessive calorie intake is the effect it is having on children. According to source B a third of children aged two to fifteen are already overweight. This is dangerous because obesity leads to more health conditions and all this sugary intake is quickly weakening America. One can of soda has between thirty three and thirty five grams of sugar per serving which is more than a child s recommended total daily intake (Source A). Taking soda out of American s diets or at least dramatically reducing it can help begin to reduce the obesity problem in America. In source C, Thomas Isaac says, the fight against fat has just begun which applies to this proposed tax on soda. Soda contributes large amounts to unhealthy habits and now is the time to act. Instituting a fat tax in the United States is important because worldwide obesity levels are rising. If obesity levels continue to rise as they are predicted to the future of humanity is at risk. The damage being overweight does to the human body is reason enough want to reverse the trends. There are so many opportunities in the world and everyone should have the opportunity to live up to their potential but by continuing these bad habits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Magical Realism In The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Does The Metamorphosis belong under the magical realism genre? The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka is a short story describing the transformation of a lonely traveling salesman, Gregor, to a gigantic insect. Besides describing Gregor s physical metamorphosis, the story also depicts Gregor s mental metamorphosis from a human to an insect. In addition to Gregor s personal metamorphosis, Kafka illustrates Gregor s family s transformation from tolerating Gregor to treating him with hatred, disrespect, and disgust. In Bruce Holland Rogers s article What Is Magical Realism, Really? , he defined magical realism as having repetitions in time and combining magical and ordinary elements. Throughout Kafka s description of these events, it is clear that The Metamorphosis should be categorized under magical realism because it combines magical and realistic elements and uses repetition of time and distortion of identity, similar to many other magical realism works such as Axolotl by Julio Cortázar and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Magical realism stories combine realistic and magical details to illustrate a real world with imaginary elements. For example, in A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings , the old angel has huge buzzard wings, dirty and half plucked, forever entangled in the mud ( A Very Old 1). The wings are clearly magical elements, but they are forever entangled in the mud , a realistic element. This entanglement between magical and realistic elements is a common literary device found in magical realism. Therefore, Kafka s combination of magical elements, such as Gregor s insect body, and realistic elements like Gregor s family and bedroom, supports the classification of The Metamorphosis under the genre of magical realism. When Gregor woke up from unpleasant dreams in the beginning of the story, he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect (89). This is clearly a magical element, as it is obviously impossible for a human to turn into an insect in one night (or any amount of time). Although Gregor goes through very dramatic changes, his regular human bedroom remains the same. Aside from having an insect body, Gregor s surroundings, such as his ... • 12. Separation Of Public Spaces In To Kill A Mockingbird By... The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black communities. Laws were put into place to solidify the separation of the races while providing equal opportunity to all. However, these laws, known as the Jim Crow laws, were ratified to give the illusion of equality while allowing for separation to continue. Though the image these laws held gave the impression of equality, while the people did not hold equal status. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee explores the racial tensions of separate but equal throughout the novel and how these ideas affected the daily lives of those who lived during this time. Separation of public spaces and the relationships between the people themselves are small examples of the realities of the laws effects on real people in the South. The Jim Crow laws perpetuated the racial tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by sacrificing equality for the social norm of separation. The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how each of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of white individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting for the trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs, began to come in (Lee 186). The physical separation continued as the Colored balcony ran along three walls of the courtroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Discrimination In The Hunger Of Memory, By Richard Rodriguez Nobody ever gets remembered for displaying uniformity in their race, culture, and actions. Too often in today s society are people scared to pursue their passion due to the stereotypes assigned by normal people. In the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory, by Richard Rodriguez, and the short story Superman and Me , by Sherman Alexie both authors face situations where they have to make a choice to stand out or concur to the stereotypes associated with each of their cultures. While the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory discusses the difficulties of sticking out as an intelligent Indian man and Superman and Me discusses the hardships of not adhering to normal Indian standards as a kid growing up, likewise both stories share a theme of overcoming hardships and eventually helping others. In the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory Rodriguez faced adversity early on in his life. As a little kid he described himself to be a socially disadvantaged child (Rodriguez 1). This was due to the ...extreme public alienation he and his family faced (Rodriguez 1). Being Native American in today s society makes one stick out like a sore thumb. Discrimination is still very much alive today. Assimilating what it s like to be any race other than caucasian is a task that we are too inadequate to imagine. Following a passion will in some cases require losing things in return. Instead of pursuing a regular job Rodriguez stuck to writing. When he began this book the ...words wouldn t come (Rodriguez 2). His choice to persevere subsequently led him to towns such New York, Los Angeles, and even a cocktail party in Bel Air! With all this being said his works eventually led to non existent relationship with his parents. This really affects Rodriguez emotionally as he says the separation I endure with my parents is a loss (Rodriguez 2). Patients that have been diagnosed with aphasia in general usually have difficulties with auditory understanding, reading comprehension, written language difficulties and of course difficulty in spoken language expression (Halpern Goldfarb, 2013). One of the most essential areas that patients with aphasia want to see improvements in is the ability to have functional spoken communication (Mayer, 2003). When Jesus arrived to Golgotha, He was nailed to the cross and soon after dies. The symbol of Jesus crucifixion is what Christians live by. It represents Jesus sacrificing his life to save humanity from their evil sins. When He died, He was taken down from the cross and was buried in a tomb, where He resurrected into Heaven and was seated at the right Hand of God. Jesus resurrection symbolizes two things. First, it proves to Christians that Jesus is the Son of God (Curtis). In the Bible, Paul affirmed that Christ is declared to be the Son of God by the resurrection from the dead (Rom. 1:4). Second, Jesus resurrection represented an assurance that all of humanity is saved and forgiven for their sins (Curtis). Passover and Easter also have representational art and iconography that are displayed in how the religious festivals are celebrated by Jewish people and Christians. Jewish people celebrate Passover with a ritual dinner called Seder, which represents the meal that the Israelites ate before fleeing Egypt (Oxtoby 123). In a Passover Seder, the head of the family begins the ceremony by sanctifying the holiday with a Qiddush, or benediction, over a cup of wine (Tobias 88). • 22. Investigating The Logic Behind Mergers And Merger Between... Scholars have developed theories that have attempted to explain the logic behind mergers and takeover. DePamphilis (2010) notes that there are several theories and hypothesis linked to mergers and takeovers some of which include efficiency theory, agency theory, diversification hypothesis and market power hypothesis. This paper will analyze the efficiency and agency theories on the merger between the US Airways Group and the AMR Corporations that led to the creation of American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) because they offer an appropriate rationale for the merger based on the outcome. According to Risberg (2013), the efficiency theory argues that mergers are organizational strategies that are implemented to achieve three types of synergies, namely financial synergy, operational synergy and managerial synergy. Generally, the acquirer firm will have considered the target s capable assets and resources and presume that they can be beneficial to its own development. The synergy concept reinforces this idea when it comes to mergers. For instance, the synergy concept argues that mergers allow the combining of the efficient parts of the companies and the discarding of parts that are considered redundant. Johnson (2014) observes that synergy occurs in varying ways, for instance, when companies combine their different competitive advantages, potential tax benefit, or high manpower. According to Bloomfield (1933; cited in Romaine, 1989:10) bilingualism is a native like control of two languages , it is the ability to speak two languages perfectly. Furthermore, bilingualism was analyzed into four levels in another paper: individual, family, societal, and school levels (McCarty, 2010). At the educational level, McCarty (2012) defines bilingual education as bilingualism at the school level. It is not a matter of speaking two languages at home, which is bilingualism at the family level. Bilingual education is teaching in two languages in a school, more than one language as the medium of instruction, that is to say the use of another language for students to learn regular school subjects. The Decline Of The Ottoman Empire How the Decline of the Ottoman Empire Led to the Armenian Genocide Extended Essay in History Word Count: 3941 Douglas County High School Douglasville, GA, USA Examination Session: May 2016 Kiran Lakhani ABTRACT Through the investigation of the changes occurring from the first European presence in the Muslim world to the end of the Ottoman Empire, this essay attempts to answer why the Armenian genocide occurred. The Ottoman Empire started its decline when Napoleon entered Egypt in 1798. Napoleon brought along with him armies but also a new culture. The British did the same with Moghul India. The elite and people in positions of power were impressed by what the Europeans and the Americans were doing and seeing how powerful and successful they were. The Turks in the Ottoman Empire wanted the same. The Young Turks overthrew the Sultan of the time and started a reform of the Ottoman Empire to try to salvage it. The Young Turks also believed that all people regardless of religion or ethnicity deserved the same rights. The Armenians were one of the ethnicities that were in the minority. They obtained more rights when the policy was put in place. Before the Armenians received their right they were rebelling against the Ottomans. This was frightening to the majority. Massacres of the minorities, especially the Armenians started well before 1915, but the killings progressed in 1915. Many of the Armenians were deported and forced to leave their homes. In 1915 ... • 40. Workplace Discrimination In America Shaun Herman DIT 4 TASK 3 Topic 12/8/15 Workplace discrimination is a problem in America. Some people in America claim that affirmative action would solve that problem. The UK, India, and Canada already have forms of affirmative action in place in their countries. It could be beneficial in America to use parts of affirmative action. The solution to workplace discrimination in America is affirmative action because it forces governments and businesses to favor members of a discriminated group in our American culture. The problem of workplace discrimination in America is seen by some people as not a real problem, but it is. The fact is that we the United States of America are not following what our legislature has put into law. Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (CRA) of 1964 it is illegal for an employer to discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex (gender), religion, or national origin. This applies to all employment situations including hiring, firing, training, promoting, benefits, and wages (What is Racial Discrimination in the Workplace? Examples, Statistics Cases. (n.d.)) Those words are all right there in front of us however we as a society to not abide by them. The UK, Canada, and India all have affirmative action plans in effect in their nations. However, this system has something called quotas in their version of affirmative action which means that in a particular job there has to be a certain amount of people from a certain caste in that job. So for example if an employer has 20 jobs to fill 5 of those jobs are automatically reserved for that certain caste class. • 41. The Decline Of Teen Pregnancy Rates Nancy Glynn 10, December 2015 Final Research Paper English 110 07 The Decline In Teen Pregnancy Rates Over the last few decades the rates in teen pregnancy have been a debate; did they rise over the past few years or did they actually decline? Contrary to some doctors and politicians the numbers associated with teen pregnancy have decline over the last couple of years. Although there are still people out there who believe this to be an issue it s made more of an issue than it actually is. The ads and commercials are set out to scare teen agers into believing that were at an all time high for this issue, but realistically its actually the exact opposite. Teen pregnancy rates haven t dropped on there over the course of the years. There are a few major factors that have contributed a great deal to this change. Those changes include but are not limited to: more resources being available to these teenagers to prevent themselves from becoming pregnant, society is more open to talking about this issue as well as the religion and culture change aspect of families today. Despite the beliefs of others, teen pregnancy rates are at an all time low for the first time in decades. In fact there are a few things that impacted the decline in teen pregnancy, one of which was the society has opened up to this topic of conversation. It s not something that s kept behind closed door like it use to be. Talking about sexual education in local school systems was a big impact on declining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Common Theme Of Martyrdom Within The Death Of Socrates... Deanna Rose Palevo Professor Heller ART 105 07 Final Term Paper 12/06/2016 The Common Theme of Martyrdom within The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara When walking through a museum, one notices the immense variation within every piece. Each work contains one or a few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common themes may include, but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and strength, heroism, death, and beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief and death within two separate pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go perfectly hand in hand. The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The first piece I am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with oil on canvas by a French artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story of the trial of Socrates. Socrates was an Athenian philosopher and teacher who constantly challenged the beliefs and politics of his state. He sought to teach the youth of Athens his methods of philosophy and politics. In 399 BC, Socrates was accused of impiety (specifically not believing in the gods that Athens believed in) and corruption of youth. The jury of Athens decided that Socrates was guilty of ... • 43. John Marshall Website College websites serve a variety of purposes for prospective and current students, which include, but are not limited to, generating information, data collection, and facilitating online transactions. Accelerated accessibility of web presence through a variety of platforms, from desktops to smartphones, propels websites to the forefront of many colleges introduction to prospective students. The aesthetic composition of websites is as significant as is practicality in our modern technological age, and mastery or shortcomings in either attribute can engender positive or negative assumptions respectively from visitors. Approximately 80 percent of website visitors assume that the design of a website is reflective of the entity it represents, according to researchers (Lowry 63). Subsequently, I have decided to conduct an analysis of Atlanta s John Marshall Law School s (AJMLS) website (Front) due to recent interactions with the site while applying for admission. During this essay, I will explore the aesthetics, practicality, and inconsistencies inherent in the site when accessed on mobile platforms as compared to desktops. • 44. Rhetorical Devices In Dover Beach The poem Dover Beach is one that carries many deep themes that are exemplified through the use of rhetorical devices. There is one theme, however, that stands out more that the rest and that is man and the natural world. With the use of two specific rhetorical devices, the poem gains qualities that would be sorely missed without them. The use of epithets throughout the poem allows the reader to grasp what each of the described words is meant to convey. Symbolism in Dover Beach expands the meaning of the poem as it provides the reader with a secondary vision to the connections made between the lines. The relationship between man and nature is vital to the poem. With the use of rhetorical devices, the reader is able to truly understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. LEEPAnd Why Is It Done What is a LEEP and why is it done? A LEEP is done when you have an abnormal cervical cancer screening result; it is one way of removing the abnormal cells from your cervix. Your gynecologists dose this by using a thin wire that acts like a scalpel. Electric current is passed through the loop, which cuts away a thin layer of the cervix. How is LEEP performed? The procedure should be done when you are not on your period so that the doctor can have a better view of your cervix. Most of the time LEEP is done in the doctor s office, this only takes a few minutes so you should be in and out. To have the procedure done you will be lying on you back with your legs in stirrups. Then the doctor will insert a speculum into your vagina in the same way as for a pelvic exam. A local anesthesia will be used so you don t feel pain. This will be given through a needle attached to a syringe. You are most likely going to feel a slight sting, then a dull ache or cramp. Then the loop is inserted into your vagina to the cervix. There will be different sizes and shapes of the loops that will be used. There is a small chance that you may feel faint during the procedure. If you do feel faint tell your doctor immediately. ... Crossbreeding is the science of altering DNA through the process of breeding two different animals. In order for these mutations to be possible the number of chromosomes each animal has must match. Some well known examples of this include the liger which is a cross between a lion and tiger, and the beefalo which is a mutation of a cow and a buffalo. Many people crossbreed for various reasons. If the animal is big with a wild temperament it can attack and kill. This is bad and not what the breeder wanted. If it is too small it can get health problems that they normally wouldn t get.
