Case Study Of Carley s Angels
Carley s Angels Carley s Angels is a organization to financially help families with children in need of
life saving treatments and therapies. Carley Allison passed away with Clear Cell Sarcoma in her
trachea on March 31st, 2015, she was only 19 years old when she died. Clear Cell Sarcoma is a rare
cancer that only affects one in every 3.5 billion, said ireport.cnn.com. When Carley had found out
what she had and why she was sick, she didn t care, she still prospered like nothing ever happened.
She was a competitive figure skater that traveled, a singer and songwriter and was noticed by many,
including Selena Gomez, who told her to Stay strong and don t give up. Carley had gone through a lot
but the one thing she never did was give up. Carley s Angels should be supported because we all need
to raise awareness for what has happened, and help the doctors and families by donating to this
charity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When she had got diagnosed, she was only the second known case. The doctors didn t really know
what to do and when they first seen her they passed her with asthma. They only figured out that she

shouldn t want that to happen to anybody else. Clear Cell Sarcoma might be rare but it can happen to
anybody, they don t know really what caused her to get the cancer, and they didn t know what to give
her to help her. Carley had went through remission and they said that all the cancer was gone, but it

Ronald Reagan Speech Ethos Pathos Logos
June 6, 1944. A day that people will remember forever. A day that men sacrificed their lives for liberty.
It had been forty years since World War 2 had left its impact on the world. On the sixth of June, 1984,
Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States, stood at Pointe du Hoc and delivered a powerful
speech to the veterans of D Day. The same spot the Allied armies ran up the coast to fight against the
Nazi tyranny. Behind President Reagan was a stone memorial that symbolized the rangers that took
these cliffs. Reagan explained: These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the
cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a
war (American Rhetoric). President Reagan s speech stormed the audience with a strong emotion that
brought tears to the eyes. The purpose was to honor those who risked their lives that day to fight
against tyranny. Reagan emphasized the loyalty and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is the appeal to ethics, pathos is the appeal to emotion, and logos is the appeal to logic (
examples.yourdictionary.com ). Reagan uses a lot of pathos in his speech to the veterans to show
importance. As an example, All of these men were part of a roll call of honor with names that spoke of
a pride as bright as the colors they bore.. (American Rhetoric). The appeal of pathos is used in this
speech a lot to express strong emotion. Reagan uses this device to capture the audience s attention like
when he said, The air is soft, but forty years ago at this moment, the air was dense with smoke and the
cries of men, and the air was filled with the crack of rifle fire and the roar of cannon. Finally, Reagan
includes logos to state facts about events that happened on the day of June 6th, 1944. He explains, And
so, the night before the invasion, when Colonel Wolverton asked his parachute troops to kneel with
him in prayer.. (American

Anthony Sarg Balloon Magic
Balloon Magic When Anthony Sarg and his family moved to New York City from Europe, he had the
opportunity to watch the Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He was amazed at the decorations on the
floats as the parade made its way down 34th Street. Within a few years, Anthony was working as a
designer for the parade. Anthony built colorful floats and window displays, but he wanted to do
something more. Anthony enjoyed puppetry and mechanical things. As a child, Anthony found
marionettes fascinating. (Marionettes are puppets with strings or wires attached to the body that
people pull to make the puppet move.) He also loved the way balloons floated in the sky. He thought

Discuss the economic advantages and disadvantages to the UK of participation in the
European single currency (Euro). Will British businesses be better or worse off if the
country decides to participate?
Introduction of Euro in the world s monetary union is a milestone. Eleven countries were going to
create EMU at the beginning, now there is a long queue to join in EMU. Most of the EMU members
get more advantage then disadvantage to join in Euro. Euro creates a large market in the Eurozone.
Three core members of EU (Great Britain, Sweden and Denmark) still not participate in European

Core Doctrines
God:
Core doctrines are apart of the Christian faith and should be taught no matter what the denomination
is. Doctrines are not negotiable throughout the universal Christian churches. However, churches may
have different dogmatic beliefs, because there are not set in stone and vary. Theology is defined by
Beth Felker Jones as being the study of the things of God, a God who loves the world. Theology is a
practice that affects Christians lives in many ways: the way that they think, live, and how they talk
about God with others. The law of prayer suggests to Christians that they are living a whole life of
discipleship where they should continue to build intimate relationships with God. There are many core
doctrines that we must use in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the doctrine that states that there is one God that prevails in eternity as three separate parts. The
three specific parts are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three parts of God do not have one that
is more important than the other. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God with different roles.
Over time, there have been many heretical views placed on the trinity. Adoptionism means that the
Son and was seen as ordinary and then promoted to son hood. Modalism is the next heresy, which
believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all three in one, but God wears different masks while
He work all over the Earth. Arianism was the heretical belief that claimed Jesus was created, but not
divine. Nominalism states that only individual things exist. Tri theism is the final heresy that believes
God is three separate beings. Humans have a difficult time trying to understand the trinity or oneness
of God. The trinity teaches the importance of Christian relationships. God wants a relationship with
each and every person and also for us to have relationships with others. Having relationships with God
allows for Christians to see that God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. This means that
God will be there at all times during any situations, he will be in complete power, and he will know
about everything that is going on in your life.
The doctrine of Scripture is a core doctrine that is crucial to

Abstract The image as well as the operational business reputation of a corporation is critical to the
survivability of the corporation in today s business world. This reputation is even more critical when a

off shore facility safety, finance, public relations, marketing, legal operations, audit department,
human resources and finally key members of the project team. The workshop will be two days in
duration at an offsite conference center so the group can focus on the development of the risks that are
relevant to this project and its deliverables. The agenda, beginning with day one will include
introduction of all members to include the facilitator of our meeting. We will use a facilitator who is
not a stakeholder so all participants are on a level playing ground with each other. Next we will
confirm the objective of the project which is to draft an action plan to restore the reputation of BP Oil
Company as a responsible world leader in the exploration and production of oil and oil products. We
will then confirm the scope of the risk process of this work shop to include discussion of the risk
management plan to include managing internal and external risk factors. At this point, the project

Technology And The Dumbest Generation
Innovations seen in the characterization of technology have swept their influence over the growing
generations. Its mere presence has permitted the young to grasp onto quick accessed information and
communication. The increasing presence of virtual interaction and technology among the lives of
teens raises the highly controversial issue revolving around the levels of intelligence possessed by
today s generation. Many bounce the question of intelligence back and forth, asking whether today s
adolescents have been able to maintain the brainpower compared to older generations or have let the
virtues of cleverness plummet. The argument is further complicated by the unresolved question to
whether being categorized dumbest signifies holding the least knowledge or lacking the capacity and
ability to think critically. Despite the claims that the presence of technology has affected today s
generation by molding dumber and more uneducated people through the emergence of illiteracy and
other incapabilities brought about by its presence, people under thirty are not the dumbest generation
as they have utilized the presence of technology to their advantage in various aspects.
Technology s presence in the lives of people has not yet grown malignant enough to cause devastating
fractures in the rise of intelligence levels. Though many label others as dumb due to the idea
embedded into their head that technology has put a halt to thinking for themselves, the idea itself is

U.s Russian Conflict Between Ukraine And Russia
Us Response to Ukraine and Russian Conflict
It has been argued that the Ukraine conflict can be attributed almost completely on Russian hostility. It
is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the
soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as
other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply
provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine
(Baker, et al 2014, p.1). The United States takes a big responsibility in this conflict despite the idea
that it is anticipated to answer back to the skirmish between Ukraine and Russia. ... Show more

The struggle between the EU and Russia over Ukraine play an imperative part in the current conflict
of Russia and Ukraine. On the other hand, concerning the free trade pact, Kiev initiated discussions
for an entire unlimited trade pact with the European Union after it had converted an associate of the
world trade organization. The agreement involved products, acquisition of administration, energy
issues, and protocols. Statistics demonstrates that Ukraine and European Union are great partners,
with exports to the European Union adding up to over nineteen billion dollars and importation from
European Union of approximately thirty billion dollars (Simes 2014, p.5). Studies affirm that, Ukraine
has experienced close trade with Russia, and it was reported that after the desolation of the former
USSR, the two nations took on unlimited business pact. In recent times, Kiev was an older party to the
commonwealth of independent states FTA. However, in later years, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan
threw their levies in amalgamation. This is a step, which Putin viewed as a leading phase to duties
incorporation that would eventually encompass all post USSR nations. Despite the fact that other
nations have liked this treaty, Ukraine`s frontrunners are still undecided whether or not connect to the
duties amalgamation.

Benefits Of Being Active Older Adults
A. Watt (personal communication, August, 7, 2015) commented that out of all the members at the gym
she works at, only 7% of them fit into older population category. Based on this statement, I think the
amount of physically active older adults needs to increase dramatically. It is important to promote and
support physical activity for the older population try and raise the amount of physically active older
adults. Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that require
energy expenditure . (World Health Organisation, 2015, para. 1). I believe it is important for the older
population to be physically active because there are so many benefits which come from it. Some of the
many benefits include reduced risk of getting diseases, prevention of obesity, better quality of life,
reduced muscle shrinkage, increased energy and improved moods. (Berger, Cardina, Tobar Zi, 2015,
p. 43). The benefits which I believe are most beneficial to the older population are having reduced
disease risk, a better quality of life and improved mood. Supporting and encouraging the older
population to participate in physical activity is crucial, especially since starting becoming active and
doing something you have never done before can be off putting and make you think twice before
taking part. I believe the 3 most important steps that need to be taken in order to support and promote
physical activity are informing the older adults on the exercise benefits,

yourself vs selling with an agent. Certainly, the FSBO market is growing exponentially with the help

Usually, when homeowners attempt to sell a home themselves, they want to save the money they d

Violent Programs on Television Lead to Aggressive Behavior...
Since 1982, the National Institute of Mental Health, along with other reputable health organizations
has collected data that connects media violence, with violent acts. Conclusions deduced from this data
prove that violent programs on television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who
watch those programs. Television violence affects young people of all ages, all socio economic levels,
and all levels of intelligence.
Today s children view vast amounts of violence on television. A steady diet of death, killings, torture,
and other grotesque acts may be viewed on any day by vulnerable youth. When children are young,
they are impressionable to all their surroundings, and especially vulnerable to what they see. ... Show

A particular focus of the study was the media s portrayal of violence and the public s personal
experiences. Television is the primary source of media for most American citizens, and therefore
television violence is the primary source for viewing violence in both adults and children. This report
gave evidence of the media s ability to socialize the viewers to the norms and values of the culture.
Previously the ability of television to do so had been disputed that the media was seen only as a re
enforcer and not a creator.
Research performed by Albert Bandura concluded there were strong short term effects of exposure to
violence in the media that affects children. In his studies, children watched models perform aggressive
acts against a doll. These acts of aggression were presented under three circumstances: 1. the children
saw the model rewarded for aggressive behavior, 2. the children saw the model receive no
consequences for their aggressive behavior, and 3. the children saw the model punished. All three
groups were able to imitate the aggressive behavior that contradicts early notions that the influences of
violence were not negative if the violence was not glorified.

Relationship Between Father And Son In The Road
Changes in Relationship between Father and Son in The Road
The Road is he novel written by Cormac McCarthy. The author described post apocalyptic America;
unnamed disaster turned the continent (and the whole world, as the reader can suggest) to ruins. Most
people died, while small groups turned to barbarian communities or hermits, who did fear to practice
cannibalism or have other cruel experience. This environment existed for years. Unnamed father and
son tried to cross the continent to find better place and bring a fire to some final destination. McCarthy
did not make any direct conclusions, but readers can suggest characters partially achieved their goal.
Wihile the father died because of illness, wounds and poor conditions, the boy found other good
people and potentially safe place to live. Final paragraphs of the novel show new parents support
father s attempt to save some parts of the old world in the boy s memory. At least they did it in case of
religious issue. The man told his son basic things about the God and religion, and his new family
continued this education: [the woman tried] talk to him sometimes about God ... Show more content

hours for the exploration of the boat. When the father was wounded by the arrow, his son partially
took the main role in the couple as he needed to carry about the man. While the author did not write it
directly, both characters started to understand there is something beyond their relations. The man
found out the murder of own son was not the best way to save him; and the boy started to understand

Functionalism And The Sociological Perspective On War
Joseph Valdez
Sociology 100
Professor McCune
August 12, 2017
Sociological Perspective on War War has been going on just about as long as people have been alive.
Whether it is just some cavemen fighting over a fire, or multiple countries going to war for justice,
there has always been some scale of war. I am going to be analyzing way through functionalist,
conflict, and symbolic interactionist perspectives.
Functionalism is a theory of the mind in contemporary philosophy, developed largely as an alternative
to both the identity theory of mind and behaviorism. Its main idea is that mental states are constituted
solely by their functional role. The conflict perspective views the social world as difficult unfair and
unreasonable. This perspective is typically more pessimistic. Symbolic interactionism is a theory that
develops from practical considerations and that alludes to people s particular utilization of dialect to
make images, normal implications, for deduction and correspondence with others.
The three major sociological perspectives offer some very different views of war and terrorism. They
each have their own opinions and stances that may be controversial, but they all give unique views on
war, past and present. Functionalism emphasizes the usefulness of certain behaviors and social
institutions for many aspects of society. Conflict perspective utilizes the idea of peace, and how war is
a negative thing all around. Symbolic interactionist perspectives can use war as

Fracking Controversy
Fracking refers to the process of drilling into the earth, which is commonly referred to as hydraulic
fracturing. This injection of water, sand, and chemicals especially in shale deposits releases oil or gas
that has been trapped for many years that was initiated many years ago for the purpose of oil and gas
extraction from the earth (Anderson and Bosselmann, 2013). The process can be carried out both
vertically or horizontally such that it creates new pathways or extend already existing ones. The
process causes a lot of controversy and at the same time, it acts as a potential key that will someday in

ground and the surface sources. This means that the releases of chemicals among other underground

when the first beer was brewed is unknown but there was almost certainly no beer before 10,000 BCE.
The rise of beer was closely associated with the domestication of the cereal grains rom which it is

To beer drinkers in the Neolithic period, beer s ability to intoxicate and induce a state of altered

Tea: Tea began as a luxury drink, and then trickled down to become the beverage of the working man.
The story of tea is the story of imperialism, industrialization, and world domination. According to
Chinese tradition, the first cup of tea was brewed by the emperor Shen Nung. Before tea was a
beverage, it was used for medicinal purposes and foodstuff. Tea became a daily drink in China around
the third century A.D. As the Industrial Revolution of 18th and 19th centuries gained steam, tea
provided some of the fuel. Factory workers stayed alert during long, monotonous shifts thanks to
welcome tea breaks. The beverage also had unintended health benefits for rapidly growing urban
areas. Chewing leaves and rubbing them on wounds were ways that tea was used for medicinal
purposes. Coca Cola In May 1886 John Pemberton invented a drink, Coca Cola, by accidentally
stumbling on the right combination of ingredients while trying to devise a cure for headaches.
Pemberton was an experienced maker of patient medicines, which were hugely popular in America in
the late nineteenth century. The name was coined by one of Pemberton s business associates, Frank
Robinson. He also contributed to the promotion of the drink by sending out tickets for free samples
and putting up posters and banners that read Drink Coca Cola, 5c. Robinson also developed the

The Day Of The Fluorescent Tourist Filled Road
The clock ticked down as we had less than thirty minutes to find our way out of the labyrinth that we
stumbled into. As we adventured further our once unscathed gleaming shoes became soiled as they
dredged through the dense, sticky mud that now engulfed the path. A path once created with the type
of gravel that crunches and crackles like a can being crushed. Naturally, every step lead farther out of
familiarity, inching into an unfamiliar landscape. Furthermore, the probability of returning to the
fluorescent tourist filled road dwindling. The maze we had stumbled upon threw us in a daze, as a
result not a single speculation in our conscious minds on where we had landed ourselves. Twenty
minutes were spent attempting to grasp where we concluded our travel in addition to settling our
anxiety. Nonetheless, we were lost, as a result of countless deviations leaving us in a foreign location .
The equanimity of the breeze from the Caribbean sea granted us the opportunity to recollect the
memory of the detours we had chosen. To no avail, we were unable to unlock the portions of our
memories containing the needed information. As I yanked out my cell phone with hopes of accessing

ABSTRACT
A resilience framework for understanding cognitive aging implies a search for factors that buffer
against existing risk, enabling one to thrive in what might otherwise be adverse circumstances. The
cascade of biological processes associated with senescence and a cultural context that does not take
into account this biological imperative each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agency in sustaining an engaged lifestyle does not just derive from naive optimism (e.g., the little
engine that could ), but rather from a whole constellation of resources crafted over the life span that
puts force behind ones sense of agency (e.g., Infurna, Gerstorf, Ram, Schupp, amp; Wagner, 2011).
Cognitive capacity does not come for free. By some estimates, proficiency in a substantive skill
requires about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe, Tesch Römer, 1993; Gladwell,
2008). The normalization of optimal life span cognitive development, then, will ultimately derive
from cultural and social institutions (e.g., health care, educational resources) that position individuals
for effective engagement in experiences and activities that nurture cognition on a large scale over
extended time. In the pages that follow, we consider the factors that have potential to contribute to
cognitive resilience through the life span. The 10,000 hour rule implies that not all skills will be
developed to an equal extent and that cognitive resilience must entail selectivity in what is optimized,
as well as compensatory strategies for managing activities that depend on nonoptimized skills.
Because plasticity decreases with age, the 10,000 hour rule might be expected to become something
like a 15,000 hour rule for new skills developed in late life. However, the 10,000 hour rule also
implies that by mid to later adulthood, investment in skill development of

The True Maeaning of Invisiblity
With the title that Ralph Ellison chose for this book one could easily conclude, without even reading
it, that the text is science fiction and deals with the super natural. Upon actually reading it however it
becomes painfully obvious that the main character of Invisible Man is quite visible indeed. Fictional
or not, he is a regular human being made of flesh and bone, and he even says so in the first sentences
of the book. So how can this black man possibly deem himself invisible? Perhaps this nameless
protagonist cannot be blamed completely for this freak occurrence. Maybe the invisibility stems from
a lack of sight of the people (mainly white) around him. Those people allow themselves to be blinded
by the semitransparent veil of stereotypes and racism, causing them not to be able to see the
protagonist/narrator for who he really is. With that being said, the narrator himself still has a part to
play in this so called invisibility. Throughout the story the narrator s actions cause people to see him as
someone he is not. It seems as though every time there is about to be a turning point in the narrator s
life his good ambitions are tampered with by the cruel intentions of those around him.
The genres of this work appear to be African American literature, satire, and in a sense it is a coming
of age kind of story. As such, the story follows the narrator s life during the great migration/Harlem
Renaissance era and has many different locations. It starts off in the

Economic Development
Introduction Governments the world over have long been investing in infrastructure in the hope of
boosting economic development of their country. To study the relationship between infrastructure and
economic development, we compared two journals; Infrastructure and Local Economic Development
by Rives, J amp; Heaney, M. (1995) and Infrastructure and Economic Growth: The Nigeria
Experience 1980 2006 by Enimola, S (2010). We chose these journals as the journal by Rives, J

national level. Hence, we were able to look at the topic at a micro and macro level. We compared the
objectives of both journals, along with the methodological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Literature Review On Colorectal Cancer
Literature Review Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United
States.4 According to the American Cancer Society, it starts with a growth of adenomatous polps on
the inner lining of the colon or rectums and the growth happens over the course of several years to
become cancer.5 Genetic factors that increase the risk for colorectal cancer are well established such
as family history, ethnicity, and age. Pt is an African American female, and the incidence of colorectal
cancer for African Americans remains higher than for other ethnic and racial groups.4 Another risk
factor is increasing in age, especially in the sixth and seventh decades, and Pt is 71 years old.
However, there is a major debate regarding if there is evidence that specific nutrients play a role in the
risk of colorectal cancer. The American Institute for Cancer Research found that red meat, processed
meat alcoholic drinks, body fatness, and abdominal fatness, and adult attained height were associated
with an increased risk.4 It has also been found that calcium, dietary fiber, garlic, vitamin D, lycopene,
and folic acid are associated with a decreased risk.4 Physical observations that can be seen with
patients with colorectal cancer are presence of muscle wasting, stoma, dehydration, and ascites or
other areas with edema. Nutritional impact symptoms for the disease is unintentional weight loss,
anemia, anorexia, early satiety, and alterations in bowel function that may affect

My Character, My Voice, And The Plot
NaNoWriMo, which means National Novel Writing Month, has been introduced at my school. The
seventh and eighth grade classes had the honor of trying it out, and I was one of the students that got
to. I have strengths and weaknesses in my novel that determine the characters, my voice, and the plot.
To begin, I would rate my characters in my novel an emerging. One reason, is because my major, and
minor, characters are well explained. My main character Dylan, also known as my protagonist, is
practically explained in every single sentence, except for the beginning of course. The beginning
explains how each of the main supporting characters act, along with the protagonist. I believe that I
explained the supporting characters well enough that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The friend I give it to wouldn t even need to know me well enough to determine that the novel is
mine. It seems as if I am leaving my fingerprint in my novel as I write. Most people know that I m all
against sexistism, and I have proof of that in my novel. I also could be known to have an old soul,
meaning that I don t agree with what a lot of people do in this generation, and I d rather have it be like
old times, which is another point that can be found in my novel. I tend to use grade level vocabulary
when I write almost everything, and people could also find evidence of that in my novel.
Finally, I would rate the plot in my novel an emerging because of the not very strong climax. When
people think of a climax, they usually expect something like: the dark object inched closer and closer
to me. I had no clue what the mysterious shadow was, but it gave me a bad feeling. The monster
screeched a little, which almost made me fall off the bed. I blink once, and the creature is two feet
closer. I blink once more, and it is five feet closer. I blink, yet again, and the creature is right up to
face. I can literally smell its rotting breath. Sounds about right, correct? Well my climax, and I quote: I
zip down the entrance, but find myself face to face with a bobcat. Yes, you heard right, a bobcat! I
scream probably the loudest I ever have, and the bobcat growls a bit at me. The big cat even snarls its
two sharp, yellow, rows of teeth. I back away as much as I possibly

Retrograde Amnesia in The Bourne Identity

Retrograde Amnesia Ever wondered how it would feel like to start from scratch in life? How it would
feel like to not remember anything or anyone? Retrograde amnesia has caused many people to lose
their memory all over the world. Retrograde amnesia is [1] a specific type of amnesia where a person
is unable to recall events that have occurred in the past prior to the amnesia taking place. In the
example of Jason Bourne from the movie The Bourne Identity it is shown that he has had a complete
memory loss of his past which is known as pure retrograde amnesia. Bourne suffered from wounds
and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such fine motor skills are not affected by amnesia and are recalled instinctively. Amnesia only affects
the storage of memory in the brain and does not affect any other cognitive functions. Retrograde
amnesia may cause several signs and symptoms in a person such as confusion or even false
recollections. Besides these symptoms the person is perfectly able to understand and communicate
with the rest of the world. The only problem is that the person cannot recall information from his past
but he is still able to form new memories. Amnesia has no treatment currently but there are a few
methods which help retrieve the lost memory of the patient. An occupational therapist helps the person
to learn the information which was once lost. Other than therapy or assistance, no medications are
available up till now to treat amnesia. The intellectual spy thriller movie, The Bourne Identity is [3]
about an amnesiac (Damon) who is rescued at sea by a few people. Nearly dead, with bullets in his
back and a head injury along with a Swiss bank account number. His injuries caused him to lose his
memory of his entire life and left him with no identity. He finds out through his bank account number
that he was part of the CIA due to a lot of money and several passports found in his bank locker.
Bourne is thought to be a rogue agent and many people including the CIA want him dead and

The Behavior Of Advertisers And Bidding Price
In recent years, we have received a lot of information from different search engines, and browsed
related advertisements that showed up automatically as well. What we can do is to study the behavior
of advertisers and the methods about posting advertisements. As Yahoo! has provided some datasets
for studying, we decided to focus on the advertisers bidding price on specific time and frequency.

In this project, we would find out some relationship between behavior of advertisers and bidding

models for calculating and use Tableau as major tools to access the data we need. With the tools

Yahoo! Search Marketing is using real time bidding (RTB) technique, with which advertising buyers
bid on main slots along with Yahoo! s search results after the user put in certain keywords for search.
RTB is different from traditaional bidding methods, such as CPM (cost per mille) and CPC (cost per
click). To put it simply, RTB allows advertising buyers to bid for target customers, which are selected
through analyzing users browsing history and possible interests, and to place specific advertisement
for each user. In this way, the presented advertisement becomes more relevant and precise for target
customers.
According to eMarketer, a market research company, advertising buyers in United States will spend
more than nine billion dollars on RTB in the near future. They also predicted that in 2017 the RTB
cost will constitute 29% of total advertisement cost.
The process of RTB:
Use Yahoo! like a example
Step 1, Yahoo! obtains users information through the users visit history.
Step 2, Yahoo! sends the information to the Ad exchange. The information contains URL, Ad location,
user Cookie ID, etc.
Step3, Ad Exchange requests a real time bidding, and sends the bidding request to several DSP
servers.
Step4, DSP server sends the data to the bidding engine after it has received the request.
Step 5, Advertiser s User Data Storage analyses the User ID that send from bidding

Research Paper On Alfred Adler
Compared to psychoanalysts of Victorian Era, Alfred Adler looked at psychology from a more holistic,
humanistic and positive perspective. He was convinced that the main focus should be shifted from
biological needs, drives and instincts to individual differences, experience, interaction and social
environment. Adler placed great emphasis on sibling and peer group relationships, social interest and
achieving perfection. He also introduced the terms inferiority and superiority complex, so commonly
used nowadays, to the world.
Inferiority, Superiority and Perfection According to Adler, the feeling of inferiority is an inseparable
part of human existence. And in order to overcome that feeling one must compensate. In other words,

Hence, his theory developed overtime and changed in resonance to how Adler solved his internal and
internal conflicts. In his early years, Adler focused more on how hunger for power and superiority
motivated growth and striving for perfection. Later in his life, he shifter his focus toward social
interest. Because of these changes some consider Adler s theory inconsistent or even scientifically
unreliable. Adler was considerably deterministic the process of personality formation and especially
about the time period when that happened. He claimed that once a personality is formed, it does not
change significantly. In Adler s opinion the formation of personality took place at the age of 4 or 5.
From the perspective of modern psychology, the extent to which Adler s theory about the order of
birth is scientific is highly debatable. Many of his concepts are not measurable or manipulable, and his
variable are neither physical nor behavioral. Adler did not consider measurement or an experimental
approach in general as the most efficient approach to

Three Themes in the Stranger by Albert Camus Essay
TROIS THEMES DANS L ETRANGER D ALBERT CAMUS
In the novel, The Stranger, author Albert Camus confronts some important issues of the time, and uses
the singular viewpoint of the narrator Meursault to develop his philosophy and effectively weave
together themes of absurdity, colonialism, and free will. Through the progressive disruption of
Meursault s life and his characterization, Camus presents the absurdity of the human condition along
with the understanding that a person can actually be happy in the face of the absurd. Camus also
intentionally sets the story in the colonized country of Algeria, and hints at the racial tensions that
exist between French Algerians and Arabs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(pg.30) Later, he will tell the judge, without remorse, that he killed the Arab because of the sun. In
truth, there are extenuating circumstances for his crime: the preceding scuffle with the man, the
beginning of sunstroke, the lack of premeditation, the consumption of wine, the reflex action of
pulling the trigger, and the defensive instinct taking over. But Meursault remains indifferent to murder,
and fails to defend himself. Ironically, he is convicted as much for his psychological indifference, his
selfish and anti social behavior, and his lack of mourning for his mother, as for his actual crime.
Somehow, when the prosecution was asked: est it accuse d avoir enterre sa mere ou d avoir tue un
homme? it was perfectly acceptable to assert: j accuse cet homme d avoir enterre une mere avec un

What is equally absurd is that Meursault remains passive and detached over the course of a year of
interrogations, and despite the pessimistic nature of his situation, he is able to feel a sense of comfort
and belonging within the system trying to condemn him. Ironically, those witness testimonies that
sought to free him prove to be the most damaging, and the religious people who surround him and
purport to love all men unconditionally persecute him for his lack of belief. Everyone is astonished
that Meursault has no emotions about the murder no sense of remorse or desire to repent. Most men in

Is America Racist Or Fair
Racism in America: Are America s police racist or fair?
Since the recent close of year, 2015 experiences has been very important in the national conversation,
specially racism. This year has been fateful for the black community, considering that 102 unarmed
American Africans were killed by the police. However it is really hard to identify if racism plays a

caused by the police, on racism. On the other hand there are people who believe the opposite, that
racism does not have any role in those cases. But, who is correct?

On the contrary, the white man that appears in the image, killed nine innocent people and was:

An Analysis Of Don Mozart s Opera Buffa
In his opera buffa, Don Giovanni, Mozart depicts Don Giovanni as a libertine and philanderer. At the
start of Act I, Scene III of the opera, there is a festive peasant wedding, an ensemble between the
bride, Zerlina, the groom, Masetto, and the chorus, which consists of the other peasants, all singing
about the joys of marriage. Don Giovanni, a nobleman, and his manservant, Leporello, interrupts the
wedding, and invites everyone to his villa. He even forces Masetto to go the villa too, leaving Zerlina
alone with Don Giovanni. Before leaving, Masetto protests, but understands that he has no control
over the situation. Then, Masetto sings an aria, Ho Capito, which means I understand, before leaving.
Alone with Zerlina, in recitative, Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and promises to marry her. Shortly
after he sings that they will be married, an ensemble between Don Giovanni and Zerlina starts, in
which Zerlina reveals that she would be happy to marry him but fears that Don Giovanni is deceiving
her. The duet ends with Don Giovanni appearing to succeed with his scheme. Three versions of the
opera, the first conducted by Craig Smith and directed by Peter Sellars in Vienna in 1990, the second
conducted by Colin Davis and directed by John Vernon in the Royal Opera House in London in 1998,
and the third conducted by Nicholas Harnencourt and directed by Brian Large in the Zurich Opera

to assist clients in becoming self aware and discovering the meaning to their very existence. Having
those questions about one s existence and purpose in life is perfectly normal, and that is something
else that existential humanistic therapist wants clients to realize. Existential therapy is based on the
assumption that people are free and responsible for their own choices and actions. Working in an
existential framework of practice also means that one is aware that some of the issues that will be
presented in therapy may not be resolved. Instead one will need to ... Show more content on

It also stresses the importance of the personal relationship between the helper and the client. With this
type of therapy there is no specific goals set for clients by the helper, instead a client will choose their
own goals and values while practicing self direction. Helpers will do their best to adapt and
accommodate in a way that always is in the best interest for the client. This means that it is vital for
helpers to flexible while maintaining the ethics of the counseling practice. Gestalt therapy focuses on
making clients aware of present/past behaviors that may have been interfering with how he/she is
functioning in the environment around them. In a way helpers help guide clients to increase their
knowledge about the key themes in their everyday lives. Breaking down and analyzing those themes
help a client better interpret the meaning and to take responsibility for them. Paying close attention to

The Pros And Cons Of Black Ghettos
With the abundance of government programs available to the ghettos are often misused and of course
are abused by those trying to avoid working or by others who really do not need such services. With
those problems plentiful the government should enforce a checks and balances program to make sure
such programs are not abused and if so penalize the abusers by reducing benefits, force persuade them
to return to work, or cut them off from benefits immediately which would seem very harsh for their
families as well as the abuser. So basically it is a Catch 22 when it comes down to government
assisted programs. These are just a few issues that can influence an outsider s view of ghettos but then
when one hears the word ghettos they have their own preconceived notion what ghettos are and what
they should look like along with how the people would behave as well. Of course the influence varies
according to the observers perception and beliefs especially if the explanations about black ghettos
have been liberal bias. For example Duneier said From a conservative s perspective, such explanations
are unsatisfying because they leave little room for the black community to take responsibility for
problems and pathologies and instead lay almost all blame on whites. (Duneier, 2017, p. 230). For this
reason that many blacks believe that their problems are the fault of the whites and vice versa. When in
fact it is the individual themselves that bring on their own problems whether

injuries than any other student and causes each sport to have a higher standard of caution and safety to
protect the students safety. Therefore I will be completing a crisis management plan for Mentorship

Each coach must assist in performing regularly scheduled facility inspections to insure safety.
When using outdoor and indoor facilities, it is important to performed scheduled inspections to insure
safety for the student athletes, coaches and spectators. Although every sport have a different safety
need as it pertains to facilities. That s why it is important for facilities to have an inspection before the
spectators are allowed in the venue. Coaches must also be aware of the athletics health when it
pertains to heat exhaustion. Coaches also have a duty to protect the students from injury with the
proper equipment. If there is a sport that has a greater risk of injury the then there should be a higher
need for equipment protection. When it pertains to football each player must have shoulder pads,
helmet, mouth piece, thigh pads and knee pads.
However, even though athletes have to wear the safety equipment in order to participate in any sport,
the coaches have the responsibility to inform the parents and the students about the inherent risks for
the sport. Therefore all parents should also be aware of the specific inherent risks per sport, athletes
insurance, equipment, transportation and expectations for players and fans.
As a part of any risk management planning there should be an emergency medical plans. As athletic
injuries occur during the event of a game or practice, the athletic training staff must assist with the

As a group, we believe that the Software Design Model to be used is the V model. This model takes
the approach of tackling every stage of development, completing it and testing it before moving on to
the next stage. Yes, it is a time consuming process but it is suitable for small projects such as
designing this phone app. It also gives the advantage of discovering any problems early so they can be
rectified. We should take on the same methodical approach for the phone app testing each stage of
development before advancing to the next one throughout the entire process of design, creation and

We want to create an app that can be used on multiple phone platforms by users of varying
technological capabilities that is rigid, stable, secure and robust. As well as maintaining ease of use,
easy to understand and fault tolerance in case of mistakes. Incorporating these techniques will also
ensure expandability with the release of future updates with additional support structures. Techniques:
Consistency: the app must be consistent with any existing process that the hotel already has in place
users will already be familiar with these processes and the app must adhere to these Standardisation:
the same standards must be incorporated across platforms be it Android, iPhone, Blackberry or
Windows phones the process must look and operate the same throughout. Online help: on the chance
that mistakes are made users can access online help facilities. Multilingual support: it is safe to assume
the a hotel will have guest from all over the world so having an app that has multilingual support will
only serve to enhance it. Familiarity: using symbols of familiarity will only serve to make the app
more user friendly elements like red meaning stop or caution, green meaning go, pictures or icons that
are taken to have specific meanings makes for an easy to understand app. Clear Instructions: when
instructions are given make them clear and to the point to minimize the chances of mistakes being

ACCOUNTING FOR AIRLINE FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAMS: MANAGEMENT

ABSTRACT The obligation to provide free or reduced fare travel to passengers who redeem their
accrued frequent flyer program (FFP) benefits represents a significant liability on every major U.S.
airline s balance sheet. Major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for the liabilities
they incur when issuing mileage credits to traveling passengers. The Deferred Revenue Method

CNBC estimated that over 15 trillion frequent flyer miles were outstanding as of May 2011 (Whitman,
2011). Today, major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for FFP liabilities for
mileage credits earned by paying passengers: either the Deferred Revenue Method or the Incremental
Cost Method. The Deferred Revenue Method recognizes a liability for the fair value of the outstanding
mileage credits (with fair value defined under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as
the amount for which the award credits could be sold separately ) (KPMG, 2008). The Incremental
Cost Method recognizes a liability for the marginal cost of providing air transportation to eligible
award passengers (i.e. the cost of taxes, fuel, food, etc. to fly one additional passenger on a seat that
otherwise would have been empty generally a nominal amount). Incremental cost accounting has been
subject to scrutiny several times throughout the history of FFPs. Within the past few years airlines
have reduced seating capacity due to high fuel prices and weaker travel demand during the global
economic recession, causing flights to be fuller on average and increasing the chance that, for any
given seat, a passenger flying on redeemed frequent flyer miles could displace a fare paying passenger
(notwithstanding the fact that many airlines limit the number of seats eligible to be reserved using FFP

Antoine Arnauld s Five Propositions
To defend themselves from monarchial persecution, the nuns of Port Royal employed gender
paradoxes. In the 1660s, Louis XIV required all clergy to sign a formulary which required them to
condemn Jansen s five propositions with both heart and mouth. The nuns of Port Royal resisted by
invoking the Pauline interdictions, which prohibited them from taking an oath on a theological matter
that they were not allowed to study or discuss, even though there was a small, but influential group of
nuns who had read the texts of the Jansenist debates. Their resistance marks a departure from the
teachings of Angelique Arnauld who advocated suffering in silence, and believed: Il faut recevoir tout
ce qui nous arrive, toutes les petites disgraces, les ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to the formulary, a schism developed among the nuns: those who wanted to sign it with
Antoine Arnauld s right/fact distinction, a clause which denounced the condemned doctrine with heart
and mouth but requested the signer s right to remain silent on the issue of whether or not the five
propositions and the heretical doctrine in question appeared in Jansen s text, signing a distinction that
would more openly defend Jansen, or not signing it at all. One issue with Arnauld s mandement was
that some of the nuns were incapable of understanding it; Angélique de Saint Jean wrote to Antoine
Arnauld, . .
. . Despite the fact that there were
nuns who understood the mandement, they could not explain its obscurities to those who were truly
ignorant because, according to Kostroun, educating some of these nuns would not only be a hopeless
cause because of their lack of intelligence but it would also force the convent to contradict what it had
maintained all along, which is that the nuns never talked about the Jansenist debates . .

What Sets Napa Valley Apart
Much of California s wine regions parallel in their respective histories. However, what sets Napa
Valley apart is its rich collection of individual growers and producers dedicated to furthering the
reputation of the region from the very beginning. Importantly, its unique location provides ecological
serenity for the production of wine from its expansive variety of soils to the balancing effect of its
climate.
The history of Napa Valley and many vineyard growing areas of California are fraught with a
tumultuous history. Economic and ecological disasters from its birth in the mid 1850s through the 21st
century have at times ebbed the growth of the region. However, various vineyards and producers
continued their craft regardless of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oftentimes, wineries would re use empty wine bottles. Shipping was another problem for Napa Valley
and California wine in general. Expensive shipping resulted in higher prices for bottles. Principal
markets in the East Coast preferred wines from France and Italy because they were cheaper than
California wines (Leve).
Today, the Napa Valley Vintners trade association consists of hundreds of wineries working together to
improve the region. This sense of collection has always been a part of Napa s history. During the late
1870s, Charles Krug, Henry Pellet, and Seneca Ewer created the St. Helena Viticultural Club where
they agreed to remove the Mission grapes and plant French and Italian grape varieties... (Leve). This
was greatly improved Napa and California s wine industries. However, a series of climatic events
would soon devastate the region.
The first of these events was the spread of Phylloxera, which had destroyed much of Europe s
vineyards. Napa s vineyards remedied this by grafting local rootstocks to their vinifera vines. In a way,
Phylloxera s devastating effect on Europe, helped Napa Valley and American vineyards in general.
Tariffs levied against French wine in 1879 coupled with the small production of European wines, due
to the ravages of Phylloxera made California wines more popular than ever. (Leve).
If Phylloxera was not enough, Prohibition, the Great Depression, and WWII severely limited

Tummy Tuck Research Paper
If you are a woman in Louisiana and you have had a couple pregnancies or have experienced a
dramatic weight loss, you may be familiar with one of the downsides of either of these wonderful
things. Excess skin around the abdominal area can become a problem that can cause unsightly bulging
and flaps of skin. You may find that you eat right and exercise regularly, but none of this seems to
enable you to get rid of this final, stubborn bit of fat and excess skin. Benefits of a Tummy Tuck If you
find yourself in the above situation, you may discover that getting a tummy tuck in Louisiana is the
only thing that may help. Also known as abdominoplasty, this procedure involves having a plastic

They just don t like how their abdominal area looks. Nothing can make us as self conscious as our
appearance. You may find that you are avoiding certain clothes because they don t conceal this
problem area. Perhaps you are even avoiding intimacy in some situations because of it. There is
nothing quite as emotionally powerful as a restoration in confidence about your appearance when you
have such a problem as this addressed in a thorough and successful manner. Medical Benefits Many
people do not realize this, but there are also potential medical benefits to getting an abdominoplasty.
Several of these have been mentioned in an article on Plasticsurgery.org. After pregnancy, women can
sometimes develop Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). This is an issue having to do with bladder
control where you may experience leakage while sneezing, coughing or exercising. In some cases, it
has been found that having a tummy tuck has helped relieve this problem. Pregnancy can also cause
the stomach muscles to become stretched, which can sometimes lead to bad posture. Because these
muscles are also tightened, this situation can frequently be

The same spot the Allied armies ran up the coast to fight against the Nazi tyranny. Behind President Reagan was a stone memorial that symbolized the rangers that took these cliffs. This is the doctrine that states that there is one God that prevails in eternity as three separate parts. The three specific parts are the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three parts of God do not have one that is more important than the other. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all God with different roles. Over time, there have been many heretical views placed on the trinity. Adoptionism means that the Son and was seen as ordinary and then promoted to son hood. Modalism is the next heresy, which believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all three in one, but God wears different masks while He work all over the Earth. Arianism was the heretical belief that claimed Jesus was created, but not divine. Nominalism states that only individual things exist. Tri theism is the final heresy that believes God is three separate beings. Humans have a difficult time trying to understand the trinity or oneness of God. The trinity teaches the importance of Christian relationships. God wants a relationship with each and every person and also for us to have relationships with others. Having relationships with God allows for Christians to see that God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. Its mere presence has permitted the young to grasp onto quick accessed information and communication. The increasing presence of virtual interaction and technology among the lives of teens raises the highly controversial issue revolving around the levels of intelligence possessed by today s generation. Many bounce the question of intelligence back and forth, asking whether today s adolescents have been able to maintain the brainpower compared to older generations or have let the virtues of cleverness plummet. The argument is further complicated by the unresolved question to whether being categorized dumbest signifies holding the least knowledge or lacking the capacity and ability to think critically. Despite the claims that the presence of technology has affected today s generation by molding dumber and more uneducated people through the emergence of illiteracy and other incapabilities brought about by its presence, people under thirty are not the dumbest generation as they have utilized the presence of technology to their advantage in various aspects. Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that require energy expenditure . (World Health Organisation, 2015, para. 1). • 18. Functionalism And The Sociological Perspective On War Joseph Valdez Sociology 100 Professor McCune August 12, 2017 Sociological Perspective on War War has been going on just about as long as people have been alive. Whether it is just some cavemen fighting over a fire, or multiple countries going to war for justice, there has always been some scale of war. I am going to be analyzing way through functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interactionist perspectives. Functionalism is a theory of the mind in contemporary philosophy, developed largely as an alternative to both the identity theory of mind and behaviorism. Its main idea is that mental states are constituted solely by their functional role. The conflict perspective views the social world as difficult unfair and unreasonable. This perspective is typically more pessimistic. Symbolic interactionism is a theory that develops from practical considerations and that alludes to people s particular utilization of dialect to make images, normal implications, for deduction and correspondence with others. The three major sociological perspectives offer some very different views of war and terrorism. They each have their own opinions and stances that may be controversial, but they all give unique views on war, past and present. Functionalism emphasizes the usefulness of certain behaviors and social institutions for many aspects of society. Conflict perspective utilizes the idea of peace, and how war is a negative thing all around. Symbolic interactionist perspectives can use war as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cognitive capacity does not come for free. By some estimates, proficiency in a substantive skill requires about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe, Tesch Römer, 1993; Gladwell, 2008). The normalization of optimal life span cognitive development, then, will ultimately derive from cultural and social institutions (e.g., health care, educational resources) that position individuals for effective engagement in experiences and activities that nurture cognition on a large scale over extended time. In the pages that follow, we consider the factors that have potential to contribute to cognitive resilience through the life span. The 10,000 hour rule implies that not all skills will be developed to an equal extent and that cognitive resilience must entail selectivity in what is optimized, as well as compensatory strategies for managing activities that depend on nonoptimized skills. Because plasticity decreases with age, the 10,000 hour rule might be expected to become something like a 15,000 hour rule for new skills developed in late life. However, the 10,000 hour rule also implies that by mid to later adulthood, investment in skill development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The True Maeaning of Invisiblity With the title that Ralph Ellison chose for this book one could easily conclude, without even reading it, that the text is science fiction and deals with the super natural. Upon actually reading it however it becomes painfully obvious that the main character of Invisible Man is quite visible indeed. Fictional or not, he is a regular human being made of flesh and bone, and he even says so in the first sentences of the book. So how can this black man possibly deem himself invisible? Perhaps this nameless protagonist cannot be blamed completely for this freak occurrence. Maybe the invisibility stems from a lack of sight of the people (mainly white) around him. Those people allow themselves to be blinded by the semitransparent veil of stereotypes and racism, causing them not to be able to see the protagonist/narrator for who he really is. With that being said, the narrator himself still has a part to play in this so called invisibility. Throughout the story the narrator s actions cause people to see him as someone he is not. It seems as though every time there is about to be a turning point in the narrator s life his good ambitions are tampered with by the cruel intentions of those around him. The genres of this work appear to be African American literature, satire, and in a sense it is a coming of age kind of story. As such, the story follows the narrator s life during the great migration/Harlem Renaissance era and has many different locations. It starts off in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The seventh and eighth grade classes had the honor of trying it out, and I was one of the students that got to. I have strengths and weaknesses in my novel that determine the characters, my voice, and the plot. To begin, I would rate my characters in my novel an emerging. One reason, is because my major, and minor, characters are well explained. It seems as if I am leaving my fingerprint in my novel as I write. Most people know that I m all against sexistism, and I have proof of that in my novel. I also could be known to have an old soul, meaning that I don t agree with what a lot of people do in this generation, and I d rather have it be like old times, which is another point that can be found in my novel. I tend to use grade level vocabulary when I write almost everything, and people could also find evidence of that in my novel. Finally, I would rate the plot in my novel an emerging because of the not very strong climax. When people think of a climax, they usually expect something like: the dark object inched closer and closer to me. I had no clue what the mysterious shadow was, but it gave me a bad feeling. The monster screeched a little, which almost made me fall off the bed. I blink once, and the creature is two feet closer. I blink once more, and it is five feet closer. I blink, yet again, and the creature is right up to face. I can literally smell its rotting breath. Sounds about right, correct? Well my climax, and I quote: I zip down the entrance, but find myself face to face with a bobcat. Yes, you heard right, a bobcat! To put it simply, RTB allows advertising buyers to bid for target customers, which are selected through analyzing users browsing history and possible interests, and to place specific advertisement for each user. Through the progressive disruption of Meursault s life and his characterization, Camus presents the absurdity of the human condition along with the understanding that a person can actually be happy in the face of the absurd. At the start of Act I, Scene III of the opera, there is a festive peasant wedding, an ensemble between the bride, Zerlina, the groom, Masetto, and the chorus, which consists of the other peasants, all singing about the joys of marriage. Don Giovanni, a nobleman, and his manservant, Leporello, interrupts the wedding, and invites everyone to his villa. He even forces Masetto to go the villa too, leaving Zerlina alone with Don Giovanni. Before leaving, Masetto protests, but understands that he has no control over the situation. Then, Masetto sings an aria, Ho Capito, which means I understand, before leaving. Alone with Zerlina, in recitative, Don Giovanni tries to seduce her and promises to marry her. For example Duneier said From a conservative s perspective, such explanations are unsatisfying because they leave little room for the black community to take responsibility for problems and pathologies and instead lay almost all blame on whites. (Duneier, 2017, p. 230). For this reason that many blacks believe that their problems are the fault of the whites and vice versa. CNBC estimated that over 15 trillion frequent flyer miles were outstanding as of May 2011 (Whitman, 2011). Today, major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for FFP liabilities for mileage credits earned by paying passengers: either the Deferred Revenue Method or the Incremental Cost Method. The Deferred Revenue Method recognizes a liability for the fair value of the outstanding mileage credits (with fair value defined under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as the amount for which the award credits could be sold separately ) (KPMG, 2008). The Incremental Cost Method recognizes a liability for the marginal cost of providing air transportation to eligible award passengers (i.e. the cost of taxes, fuel, food, etc. to fly one additional passenger on a seat that otherwise would have been empty generally a nominal amount). Incremental cost accounting has been subject to scrutiny several times throughout the history of FFPs. Within the past few years airlines have reduced seating capacity due to high fuel prices and weaker travel demand during the global economic recession, causing flights to be fuller on average and increasing the chance that, for any given seat, a passenger flying on redeemed frequent flyer miles could displace a fare paying passenger (notwithstanding the fact that many airlines limit the number of seats eligible to be reserved using FFP ... • 51. Antoine Arnauld s Five Propositions To defend themselves from monarchial persecution, the nuns of Port Royal employed gender paradoxes. In the 1660s, Louis XIV required all clergy to sign a formulary which required them to condemn Jansen s five propositions with both heart and mouth. The nuns of Port Royal resisted by invoking the Pauline interdictions, which prohibited them from taking an oath on a theological matter that they were not allowed to study or discuss, even though there was a small, but influential group of nuns who had read the texts of the Jansenist debates. Their resistance marks a departure from the teachings of Angelique Arnauld who advocated suffering in silence, and believed: Il faut recevoir tout ce qui nous arrive, toutes les petites disgraces, les ... One issue with Arnauld s mandement was that some of the nuns were incapable of understanding it; Angélique de Saint Jean wrote to Antoine Arnauld, . . . .
