Romeo And Juliet Comparative Analysis
Romeo and Juliet has been a popular story for over 400 years, which was written by William
Shakespeare. Two directors created their own interpretations of the play. Franco Zefferelli
directed a version of the play which had many similarities and differences to Baz Luhrmann.
Furthermore, both films have many similar and different interpretations of Mercutio from the
original play. However, Harold Perrineau did a more realistic portrayal of Mercutio s death,
while McEnery demonstrated a more comedic portrayal of Mercutio. In general, McEnery
demonstrates being more comedic than Harold Perrineau. For example, when McEnery decides
to pull up the nurse s dress and decides to make fun of her by singing that she is a prostitute.
McEnery says to the Nurse, A bawd, a bawd, a bawd! So ho... No hare, sir;... Show more content on

Leading up to Mercutio s death in front of Romeo in both films, when Tybalt and Mercutio are
fighting, Zefferelli has them playing around. This scene makes it look like as if Tybalt and
Mercutio are just fighting to fight. After Mercutio is stabbed, Benvolio asks Mercutio if he is
hurt and Mercutio responds with, Ay, ay, a scratch. Marry, tis enough (Shakespeare 3.1.97 100).
During these lines of dialogue, McEnery portrays Mercutio as a jokester because he crawls up
the church steps and falls again, while everyone is laughing at him. Although, in the original
play we know Mercutio jokes around and is never to be taken seriously, Mercutio s death in the
modern film is more believable. Harold Perrineau portrays a more serious death of Mercutio. He
acts more believable as someone actually dying. Mercutio s final moment happens when he gets a
deep cut from a piece of glass during the fight between Tybalt. Mercutio is yelling at Romeo while
he is dying. No one thinks that Mercutio is playing around. This is how Perrineau did an excellent
job at portraying Mercutio s

The Impact Of Apple s Global Impact On Apple
APPLE S GLOBAL IMPACT The world s leading software and electronics manufacturer Apple
has revolutionized business operations in America. Apple s global ingenuity (Robbins Judge,
2013, p. 35) or its ability to use comparative advantages to advance its operations is a game
changer. In acknowledging Apple s global stance, we consider the pros and cons for business
decisions that propel the company forward, the expansion of its workforce outside of the United
States, and the increase of employee diligence and flexibility at manufacturing facilities
internationally. PROS AND CONS OF LOCAL AND OVERSEAS LABOR The world economy
demands individuals drive innovation. Apple, has nearly 750,000 employees with only 43,000 of
them being a part of the American workforce (Robbins Judge, 2013). Apple discovered that
employing skilled workers outside the United States to assemble product hardware would position
the company to better meet product demand. Global expansion equips Apple with the ability to
meet demand, guarantee its customers a quality and reliable product, which in return generates
billions of dollars in revenues annually. Although Apple is flourishing, acquiring overseas labor
makes United States workers seem unmotivated and unfit to meet the demands of major companies
(Robbins Judge, 2013). This limits the possibility for American workers to be employed in the
world market by other major companies. However, it is inaccurate that American workers are unfit.

Comparing Ancient Egypt And Sumer
Arguably, two very impressive civilizations, Egypt and Sumer, took shape around the same time.
This proximity provided them with remarkable similarities, yet a copious amount of differences
still grew between the two areas. Largely due to their access to resources and environment, the
communities grew in very different manners, which led to differences in political development, as
well as their leaders, which in turn affected their overall success. In regards to Sumer, it flourished
in the area of Mesopotamia, or as the Greeks called it, the Land between Rivers (Cole, et al 7).
Specifically, these rivers were the Tigris and Euphrates. Despite being surrounded by waterways,
Sumer existed in an extremely arid climate, which left the soil sandy and summer weather
unbearably hot. The rivers presented a series of problems. Not only were the Tigris and
Euphrates noted for their violence and unpredictably , but also both were prone to flooding (Cole,
et al 7). Despite these adversities, Sumer still managed to grow into the first urban society (Cole,
et al 7). Residents in this area quickly learned simply irrigation tactics, overtime these channels
became more complex and allowed for decent farming. They also constructed dikes and levees to
control the seasonal flooding (Cole, et al 8). As the Sumerians learned how to control the
environmental elements that challenged them, the population in the urban areas began to grow.
Specifically, by 3100 B.C.E., the area of Urukhad

Mistakes In Into Thin Air
Mistakes That Lead to Tragedies and Precautions That Lead to Success
The best way to bring attention to a problem is tragedy. Unfortunately, this means reform will not
happen until the loss or harm of life has already occurred. One example of this was seen in New
York, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. This fire was the cause of 146 deaths and many more
injuries; however, this lead to new law regulating work safety standards. While this is a tragedy
that caused reform in 1911, the same method of reform stands today. This can be seen in the novel,
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. The novel is an account of what happened on the mountain during
the 1996 Everest expedition. While the expedition started off with high hopes and dreamers ready ...

In order to continue climbing Everest, many aspects of climbing need to be improved before more
people endanger their lives to try and reach the roof of the world. The guides have some areas that
need the most reform. During the ascension of Everest the guides made a plethora mistakes that
seemed insignificant but only aided in disaster. The guides first mistake is allowing any bloody
idiot [with enough determination] up Everest (Krakauer 153). By allowing any bloody idiot with
no climbing experience to try and climb the most challenging mountain in the world, the guides are
almost inviting trouble. Having inexperienced climbers decreases the trust a climbing team has in
one another, causing an individual approach to climbing the mountain and more reliance on the
guides. While this approach appears fine, this fault is seen in addition to another in Scott Fischer s
expedition Mountain Madness. Due to the carefree manner in which the expedition was run, clients
[moved] up and down the mountain independently during the acclimation period, [Fischer] had to
make a number of hurried, unplanned excursions between Base Camp and the upper camps when
several clients experienced problems and needed to be escorted down, (154). Two problems present
in the Mountain Madness expedition were seen before the summit push: the allowance of
inexperienced climbers and an unplanned climbing regime. A third problem that aided disaster was
the difference in opinion in regards to the responsibilities of a guide on Everest. One guide went
down alone many hours ahead of the clients and went without supplemental oxygen (318). These
three major issues: allowing anyone up the mountain, not having a plan to climb Everest and
differences in opinion. All contributed to the disaster on Everest in

Biblical Allegory In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
William Golding, author of Lord of the Flies, once said, man produces evil as a bee produces
honey. While humans are capable of being good and bad, Golding believes that a human s
natural instinct is evil. No matter how good someone will try to be, falling to evil is easier than
it is to be good. In Lord of the Flies, Golding explores this idea of good versus evil by depicting a
group of boys stranded on an unknown island. Ralph, a boy elected as chief, tries to maintain a
sense of civilization on the island. Jack, the novel s antagonist, leans towards the idea of savagery
and the worst of human would behave in survival. Through this novel William Golding shows that
a humans natural response is cruelty. William Golding s Lord of the Flies can be interpreted as a
multifaceted biblical allegory that is meant to show, through the depiction of the island and its
characters, the sinfulness of humankind. More specifically, the story can be seen as an allegory for
Adam and Eve, Jesus and the devil s temptations, and the Biblical end of times.
Lord of the Flies is a microcosm representation for the Garden of Eden in the Bible. In the
beginning of the novel, the boys describe the island as a beautiful place saying, It was clear to
the bottom and bright with efflorescence of tropical weed and coral (Golding 12). This part of the
novel is similar to the story in the Bible of Adam and Eve. Many characters represent an important
part of the story of Adam and Eve. In the Bible, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Limited Liability Company
iA Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure allowed by state statute. LLCs are
popular because, similar to a corporation, owners have limited personal liability for the debts and
actions of the LLC. Other features of LLCs are more like a partnership, providing management
flexibility and the benefit of pass through taxation.
Owners of an LLC are called members. Since most states do not restrict ownership, members may
include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities. There is no maximum number
of members. Most states also permit single member LLCs, those having only one owner.
A few types of businesses generally cannot be LLCs, such as banks and insurance companies.

* LLCs in most states are treated as entities separate from their members, whereas in other
jurisdictions[which?] case law has developed deciding LLCs are not considered to have separate
legal standing from their members (see recent D.C. decisions[which?]). * LLCs in some states
can be set up with just one natural person involved. * Less risky to be stolen by fire sale
acquisitions (more protection against hungry investors). * For Real Estate companies, each separate
property can be owned by its own, individual LLC, thereby shielding not only the owners, but their
other properties from cross liability.
Limited liability companies are the popular new choice for business start ups. The LLC has only
been in existence for roughly 26 years and there are some definite pros and cons.
A limited liability company is a creature of state law. Prior to the late 1970s, it had never been a
choice for businesses because it didn t exist. In the late 1970s, the State of Wyoming passed an
act creating it. It took another ten years or so before other states caught on. Once they did, the
mad rush was on to pass legislation allowing for the creation of LLCs in nearly all states. The
world of business entities had been changed forever.
The LLC is a business entity designed to help small business. As a result, most of the positive
reasons for using it are catered to such business. In a general view, the entity is heavily

The Misfit Grandmother
From the last quote it is concluded that both the Misfit and the Grandmother are equal to the eyes
of God. Consequently, from a Catholic perspective, when she recognizes him as one of her
children, she is acknowledging their participation in the Mystical Body of Christ.
However, at the same time, the touching of the Misfit by the Grandmother is an acceptance of the
evil by which the Misfit has been treated, I call myself The Misfit, he say, because I can t make
what all I done wrong fit what all I gone through in punishment (O Connor 142). The touching, as
an act for forgiveness, is what unsteadies the Misfit, who has known only suffering and meanness in
this life (142). Then, the act of the Grandmother does correspond to an offering ... Show more

Does her performance fit that of a Catholic? Apparently, it does not. The Grandmother s attitude in
the story echoes that of a Protestant, specifically, that of a Puritan. As the story progresses, the
Grandmother voices the importance of success in redemption. The Grandmother presents herself
as a lady who wears white cotton gloves , a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white
violets in the brim and a matching dress (O Connor 130). This lady is quite self centered,
manipulative, and proud; she is constantly persuading her family to make them do what she wants.
For example, after the Grandmother has convinced them to take the dirt road, and she realizes
that the house they are looking for is not in Georgia, but in Tennessee, the Grandmother stays
silent to avoid the embarrassment. However, the most distinctive aspect of the Grandmother s
personality is her sense of Utopia. She is constantly recoiling better times which she associates
with the Old South of Gone with the Wind, when there were no paved roads (135), and more
importantly, when good men were easy to find. There also traces of what Lipset calls morality
plays in the Grandmother; at the beginning of the story, the Grandmother does not want to go to
Florida because she wouldn t take [her] children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in
it. [She] couldn t answer to [her] conscience if [she] did (129). From the latter is drawn that she

Analysis Of Prospective Cohort Study Data
Statistical Analysis An objective of the analysis of prospective cohort study data is to compare
disease occurrence in the group to the exposure factors. Disease occurrence is measured using
cumulative incidence or incidence rates, and the relationship between exposure and disease
occurrence is quantified by the cumulative incidence or incidence rate difference and ratio.
Calculating an incidence rate involves determining the amount of person time accrued by each
study subject. Relative risks of each of the variables that are evaluated in the study are calculated.
In addition, a Cox proportional hazard models is used to analyzed the relationship between
environmental and genetic factors and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Persons years were calculated for
all the individuals from the beginning of the prospective cohort study until the end of the study or
end due to loss to follow up. The reasoning for utilizing the Cox proportional hazards models is
because the study has continuous and multiple covariates. Each of the factors need to be evaluate
and compare in order to establish whether there is a relationship between environmental factors and
the manifestation of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Multivariate analysis is necessary to implement due to
the potential number of confounding variables in the study. Multivariate analysis involves the
construction of a mathematical model that describes the association between exposure, disease, and
confounders. This type of analysis is

Military Capability During Peacetime Innovation
Resources, accurate innovation, political support, and privatized development are four crucial
factors for enhancing military capability during peacetime innovation. Therefore, countries that
effectively manage internal resources, and are funded through political support will often be at the
forefront of militarydevelopment. Moreover, accurate innovationis essential in ensuring that
innovated technology aligns with the required capabilities to defend the nation. Therefore,
countries with political support in achieving their military vision through accurate peacetime
innovation, often have the upper hand in future military strength. Political support is the primary
and foremost key component in developing successful innovation. Furthermore, military innovation
cannot deviate from the strategic guidance of the nation, without reconstructing the defense strategy
and military vision. Nonetheless, this reconstruction can occur if the current innovation and
military development is defined upon outdated technology. Therefore, peacetime innovation is an
opportunity to combat deficiencies as well as capability gaps, in order to maintain the competitive
edge against potential enemies or threats to a nation. Most importantly, the cost of the innovation,
training, and implementation must be feasible through funding and allocation with approval by
bureaucrats. Spending outside ones means in this factor will result in both incomplete and
inadequate innovation. 1 Political

Dietary Guidelines For Healthy Eating Patterns Essay
The 2015 2020 Dietary Guidelines was published last January 2016 and contains key
recommendation in having healthy eating patterns. These guidelines encourage healthy eating
practices in which individuals have to change their current eating habits, in order to make better
choices when it comes to food and drink intake. They also help individuals understand that as a part
of a society, they all play an important role in promoting healthy choices. However, this does not
restrict their eating behavior. In fact, they can still enjoy their food and beverage choices, while
they are encouraged to make better, healthier choices. Although there are different dietary
guidelines recommended by physicians and all affirms that shifting to healthier eating pattern
improves health, the 2015 Dietary Guideline provides eating pattern recommendations that are easy
to follow and accessible to all, regardless of culture and economic status. Through constant
research, a question was raised to see how these guidelines align with another nutritional diet, more
specifically the Paleo Diet. This diet is focused on bettering the well being of individuals, while
allowing them to live healthier and stronger lives. It is important to understand the positive
suggestions that the US Dietary Guidelines lays out, but to also see how the Paleo Nutritional Diet
matches up with these guidelines, in order to determine which is more influential to follow for an
individual s health. Based on the previous dietary

This is where the problem starts. Throughout its history the U.S. has gone through crisis after
crisis from poor management, and the selective trust that the stock market offers. The market
was responsible for a financial panic in 1907 in which, The Knickerbocker Trust was unable to
save itself from failure, and the public started to fear that the banking and trust industries were
experiencing liquidity issues and the runs on banks began (US History for Kids 5). Once these
liquidity issues started it was in some people s minds that Teddy Roosevelt would break apart
these powerful trusts. For this reason, investors stopped funding the banks and took their money
out of the banks. In turn causing a trickle down effect that lead many non investing people to do
the same. The Panic of 1907 lasted a little less than a month, but was enough to give U.S. citizens
a scare. A few years later in 1913 the U.S. announced, the creation of the Fed and income tax
(Domitrovic 1). The Panic made people behave more cautiously with their money, which is a
problem if people save too much, these taxes made this cautious spending a problem. The federal
and income taxes caused people to hoard their money more than they had before these taxes were
announced. Growth of the U.S. economy slowed greatly

Describe The Characteristics Of A Child Temperament
Children who are rarely spoken to, who are left to cry without parent interacts has little opportunity
to explore their environment. Also, children who experience frequent anger or boredom cannot
fully develop their potential and stable personalities, despite their genetics, improvements from
parent, interactions promote the health and development of vulnerable children. Not all children s
temperaments fall into the categories that are described. Children who share the same temperament
trait might react quite differently in similar situations, or throughout different stages in their
development. An example, of this is when children see someone they are not familiar with their
reactions to their temperament will allow them to show their feelings and identify their
temperament. When you understand your own temperament, traits help you understand the childs
perspective. This reflective process can help you become more attuned to the experience of each
child This will help you determine what might be needed to create a better fit for each child. When
talking about a child, you must ask the parents to help you understand their child s activity level,
and how their child response to new situations, and their child s persistence, distractibility,
adaptability, mood, intensity, sensitivity so that you can learn about their child s temperament and
the familys cultural. It is important to listen to how the family feels about the temperament
characteristics of their child. Therefore, it is important to understand that although a child s basic
temperament does not change over time, the intensity of temperamental trait can be affected by a
family s cultural values and parenting styles. For example, a family that values persistence the
ability to stick to a task and keep trying may be more likely to praise and reward a child for sticking
with a challenging task as building a tower with Lego s.
I cannot judge a child s temperament traits as good or bad. I need to work with parents to
understand their child s approach and understand the contribution each child s temperament type
makes to the group. My brother was an active child and would always lead me and my sister

Questions On How The Clients Needs Essay
1.How the clients needs were specifically met (for example, approaches/briefing and follow through

The client s needs were met by incorporating the following processes: i.The Briefing There was a

According to the customer contact approach proposed by Chase and Tansik [1,6,7], customer
contact activities should be decoupled from non contact activities to do justice to their different
design requirements and maximize the efficiency of the service delivery system. Consequently,
service organizations consist of a front stage and a back stage. In the back office customer
contact is passive or nonexistent, service processes may be designed with manufacturing like
principles in mind [6]. The process may take advantage of standardization and automation to
enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. While in the front stage customer contact
is high and active, it brings about unavoidable inefficiencies, and the human relation skills
become a dominant factor in designing the process [6]. Study [8] adds that moving some of the
back stage functions from developed areas (or even countries) to underdeveloped regions may

The Subculture Of Violence Theory
The subculture of southern violence theory is just one of many cultural transmissions theories
discussed in Miller s text. Cultural transmission theories determine that the values, beliefs, and
norms of subcultures (deviant or no) contrast with the dominant culture. Therefore, it is possible for
a subculture to justify criminal behavior as normal or necessary when it comes to one s reputation
and self defense. Because the southern region of the United States is known to have high crimerates
than other regions of the United States and as a whole, the subculture of violencetheory was
hypothesized by Wolfgang and Ferracuti during the late 1960s. Other researchers: Ball Rokeach,
1973; Erlanger, 1974; and Hartnagel, 1980 theorized what factors may be the cause of the high
crime rates in the southern region as well. This discussion will explore the implications of whether
or not their findings adequately support the existence of the subculture of southern violence theory.
Wolfgang and Ferracuti furthered the subculture of violence theory from the insights of cultural
deviance theorists before them. Basing their theorizations entirely upon inferences from available
statistics on homicide at that time, which illustrated a concentration of violent crimein primarily
poor, racialized neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Through these statistics, the authors deduce that
subcultural violence is a uniquely marginalized male phenomenon. Wolfgang and Ferracuti argue
that violence is a

Comparison Of Fees Must Fall And Black Lives Matter
Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter are two astonishing social movements that have expanded
over a course of time. Fees Must Fall originated in South Africa and is known as a movement led

The Ethics Of Animal Research Essay
PHILOSOPHY 106 Is the use of Animals in Biomedical Research Morally Justified?
Animals have been treated immorally since the beginning of time, this is shown by hunting,
farming, trapping, testing of products and biomedical research etc. As humans, majority of us claim
animals as our resources as we use them for eating, making clothing, (leather and fur jackets, shoes)
working animals, as a means of transport, animal testing etc. In this essay I will discuss the use of
animals in biomedical research and state why some believe it is morally justified. I will then
present an objection to argue why biomedical research is morally unjustified and why I believe
this. I will write this essay using resources from Tom Regan s, The case for animal rights , David
DeGrazia s, The ethics of animal research: what are the prospects for agreement? , Baruch A.
Brody s, Defending animal research: An international perspective and Peter Singer s, Animal
Liberation at 30 . I will then come to my own conclusion based on the different perspectives from
the above philosophers and by using my own knowledge on the issue.
In this first half of the essay I will discuss the different viewpoints from the philosophers Regan,
DeGrazia and Singer on their perspectives on why biomedical research is morally unjustified. In
Tom Regan s The Case for Animal Rights he argues that animals have a quality that can t be
decreased to their utility and puts forth a defense to eliminate harm brought about

The greatest benefit for learning cars is you could very well be saving money. Things you
typically get serviced on are oil changes and tire rotations. All together it could round up to be a
seventy five dollar job. Natalie Spring says, you ll notice that even though parts only cost twenty
five dollars, you were charged three hundred dollars for the mechanic to do the labor to install
that part. That is where they get you, in the cost of labor (Spring). The majority of what s being
charged is the service and not the product . It s a luxury that I m sure if people become more
knowledgeable, they d rather do it themselves and save money.
There are many ways you can learn how to fix car issues. You could find do it yourself (DIY)
articles where non professionals give the basic tips and even motivation. Car repairs can drain
your pocketbook fast, but you can do a wide range of repairs yourself, regardless of your technical
skill. We re not just talking oil changes; provided you can hold a wrench, you can fix everything
ranging from fuel filters to alternators (Klosowski). You could learn by working with a professional
mechanic, read it in a book that is revolved around the make and model of your car, or you can
watch a step by step video on You Tube. I would note that it is important to have a book on the year
and model of your vehicle, because it has a lot of info on car parts you would need.

Better Marriage Or The Virtue Of Acceptance

All in all, the party was a success, and just enough to catapult us emotionally through the rest of the

with Thanksgiving recess just around the corner, the long hours that went into Pathology were all

In spite of his latest crises, my father was still able to find much to be grateful for at Thanksgiving.
He was a master of the Polish art of rationalization, and able to see something bright and special in
the gloomiest circumstances.
Over a few Stegmaier beers on Thanksgiving night, my father joked about his latest predicament,
and found comfort in the words of his former mentor, Eddie Kuharcik who used to say, When life
hands out lemons, make lemonade!
My father spoke freely about Eddie Kuharcik, and his role in starting my father in business. I could
see how my father s taking Curly Kedzierski under his wing was his way of repaying Eddie.
In all the time my father talked about Eddie and the good old days on the Heights, he never once
mentioned my mother. It had been over twenty years since my mother left home, and in all those
years and the many conversations I shared with my father, her name was never mentioned. My
father had mellowed with age, but I doubted if he would ever become liberal minded enough to talk
about my mother again.
The Thanksgiving break was memorable for me, but probably more so for a number of my
classmates. When the second quarter began, no fewer than five students announced they had
become engaged over Thanksgiving. This was a significant number of students insofar as only six
students in our class entered medical school in the state of marital bliss, and only four had joined

no one is paid, and all services and goods are free. However, each person is required to do a certain

Thyroid Cancer Essay
The thyroid gland is the gland that makes and stores hormones that help regulate the heart rate,
blood pressure, body temperature, and metabolism. Thyroid hormones are essential for the function
of every cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions in the body.
Thyroid hormones also help children grow and develop. The thyroidgland is located in the lower
part of the neck, below the Adam s apple, wrapped around the trachea. It has the shape of a
butterfly with two lobes attached to one another by a middle part called the isthmus. The thyroid
uses iodine, a mineral found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most

Follicular tumors, on the other hand, grow only on one side of the gland. These tumors develop
in the hormone producing cells and account for 30% 50% of all thyroid cancers (Thackery

uncommon. Like papillary tumors, they grow on one or both sides of the gland. Anaplastic
tumors, though extremely rare, develop on either side of the thyroid gland and spread rapidly to
other parts of the body. It account for only 2% of all thyroid cancers but is the fastest growing, and
most aggressive thyroid cancer type (Thackery 1057).
The aggressiveness of each type of thyroid cancer is different. There are four main stages in each
of the types of thyroid cancer except for anaplastic cancer (Rubin 91). In the stage I of papillary
and follicular thyroid cancer, the cancer is located only in the thyroid and may be found in one
or both of the lobes. In stage II if the patients are younger than 45 years of age, the cancer has
spread beyond the thyroid. But if the patient is older than 45 years of age, the cancer is only in
the thyroid and is larger than 1 centimeter. In stage III, the cancer is usually found in patients
older than 45 years of age and has spread outside of the thyroid or has spread to the lymph nodes

it proceeded to become a full fledged company. After applying for a trademark, the first Pepsi

Pepsi Cola was once again bankrupt after the trademark was purchased by New York

The Five Twenty By John Cheever
The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever is a fantastically told story about a
mentally ill woman done wrong by a successful man and how she gets her vengeance. The story
is both thrilling and satisfying. Elements are what make any story what it is, from the complex
characters to worry for and grow with, to the conflict keeping the reader on the edge of their
seat, mind racing at how it will be resolved. All of the elements made this story a good read, but
in this case one stands out in particular. The setting really give this story the excitement and
thought provoking substance that could enthrall anybody. The setting proves to be so important
it controls character actions. Everything that happens is determined on the setting of this story.
This literary work is started out with a setting of New York on a rainy, gloomy day. New York is
known to be an exciting city that never sleeps, full of successful people such as Blake, the main
character, or people struggling just to get by, like Miss Dent. The city being so crowded and
loud makes it hard for people to really think and calm themselves down. He noticed now how
much louder the rain made the noises of the street... horns were blowing urgently... The sidewalk
was crowded... he wondered if she was following him. (Cheever 2) Even on these rainy days the
streets are still full of sounds and people. These many noises give Blake a serious case of paranoia.
Blake saw Miss Dent earlier and now the many distractions around

the only thing natural I liked. I didn t go out in my woods or out on my friends property. The

A Research Study On The Frisian Language
For my research, I conducted an analysis of the Frisian language. Frisian is a part of the Proto Indo
European language family, specifically the Germanic branch in the Western Germanic tradition.
Frisian developed in the Western Germanic family and then it grew and changed from Old Frisian
into Modern Frisian. Frisian, unlike English, has no intervening steps between Old Frisian and
Modern Frisian: e.g. English developed from Old English, to Middle English, to Modern English.
According to classical sources, the Frisians traditionally inhabited the area between the Rhine or
Scheldt in the West and the Ems or Weser in the East. The province of FryslГ

Friesland) is one of the twelve provinces of the Royal Kingdom of the ... Show more content on

West Frisian is the largest and most viable of the Frisian speech communities. The most striking
fact about West Frisian, as opposed to East and North Frisian, is its relative uniformity dialectally
speaking (Markey: 2011).
It is in the realm of phonology that West Frisian evinces the greatest evolution from that of Old
Frisian. The morphology, while further simplified in directions foreshadowed even in Classical
Old Frisian, is not radically changed. In the literature it is quite generally assumed that Old
Frisian is an SOV language, i.e. a language with a subject (S) complement (O) verb (V) order in
simplex sentence structure. In this observational statement, V refers to non finite verbs
essentially, since it is assumed that these forms are indicative of the basic position of verbs
(Studies in West Frisian Grammar: 2010). According to the same book, it was noted that a number
of cases of grammatical influence of Dutch on Frisian were discussed, especially regarding a
morphological example of this influence which is a change in the system of Frisian diminutive
formation. The syntax of the Frisian verbal complex differs in several ways from the Dutch one.
According to Besten and Edmondsen s paper from 1983, Frisian shares an interesting property with
other West Germanic languages in that main verbs are accompanied by auxiliary verbs and/or
modals occur in one cluster in sentence final

Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 Analysis Essay

Sharon Olds Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 is a very sad and dreary poem. This is
because Olds writes about the Battle of Leningrad, a 900 day siege of Leningrad during World
War II, and the lifelessness that is going on afterwards. Olds word choice throughout the poem is
very important to the meaning of this poem. The way that she writes about this battle paints a very
clear picture in my mind of what she is describing. Many times thorough the poem, Olds compares
life and death many times with different comparisons. Olds starts off the poem by saying: That
winter, the dead could not be buried. (1) This creates a sad tone for when the rest of the poem. She

Though, the cocoon comparison could also mean that the battle was a turning point in the war.
This is because Russia gained momentum against Germany with that victory, which did start a
new life in the war. A hand reaching out/ with no sign of peace, wanting to come back (15 16) is
another comparison of life to death. Olds is saying that the lifeless corpse is still making a
gesture saying that the dead would return if they could at any price. She says that those people
who died in the battle, the corpses, would do anything even to the bread make of glue and
sawdust, / even to the icy winter, and the siege. (18 19) I think that the moral of this poem is that
life is precious, and that life should never be taken for granted. I think this is because the whole
poem is comparisons between life and death, and because she says that the people who have
passed away would do anything possible to come back to life, even under the worst conditions, to
be loved, to love, and to be with the people they

Dead Pool
In the movie Dead Pool, one unimportant character says, Opinions are like assholes. Everybody
s got one and everyone thinks everyone else s stinks. This is how I feel about Aristotle s view on
what makes a drama dramatic. In Poetics, he states every good drama must have a protagonist, a
plot, and a fatal flaw. But why? To no extent should my opinion of a good dramabe any less than
Aristotle s. I find myself identifying with an inanimate object that blows up stuff in the movie,
Rubber. Although I believe there are many other ways of giving value to a film or play, Aristotle s

character. Robber had recognized the ironic situation of being an actor in a play, that turned out
not to be a play. Rubber himself expresses the act of knowing the irony after he spoils the cops
plot to kill him. Robber in the end, dies. It s super awkward for an actor to actually die on stage,
also very ironic because he was going to act like a dying man anyway. Before dying, Robber
says, Who taught this tire how to kill? And the answer to that question is nobody. Perhaps Rubber
s lack of morals comes from his uneducated past. Suzi Parker, a doctor or something, reported
President Obama saying, The single most important factor in determining student achievement is
not the color of their skin or where they come from. It s not who their parents are or how much
money they have. It s who their teacher is. Rubber was black, from a rural community, an orphan,
and poor. He also had no teacher. Whether it s an isolated incident, or a case of alternate casualty,
Rubber was screwed from the start. He acted out intentionally and the irony remains the same from
beginning to end. Aristotle knew the importance of keeping recognition of irony for a certain point

Adjustment To College Essay
Adjusting to college life immediately after school becomes a toilsome transition for many
students. The decision to go to college depends on many reasons: earning a degree; increasing
knowledge; or self development. Going to college gives a chance to the students to learn new
things, meet new people, to deal effectively with new experiences and challenges which eventually
help them in their personal growth and development. According to Arkoff (1968), the definition of
collegeadjustment reflects on how much an individual achieves through it and its effect on his

Monocular Deprivation
In the early postnatal life, there are restricted time windows within which the essential role of
experience is mainly evident. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods
brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior
environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper
environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent braindiseases,55one of them is
Amblyopia.56
The deficits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive
periods for different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic
sensitivity, 18 24 months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision.
These п¬Ѓndings found that there is not just one visual sensitive period but rather that there are
different sensitive periods during which different characteristics of vision can bedamaged.43The

Difference Between Language And Linguistics
INTRODUCTION
Although language and linguistics have differences, they interact with each other via significance,
influence and implications shared through language teaching.
Linguistics is the scientific study of language which is composed of sound and speech sound, and
is concerned with how language is structured, how language is changed, how people use the
language and what they must know in order to do so. In the 19th century, the focus of linguistics
was more about writing than speaking, however in the 20th century, the focus was initially on the
primary sound, and furthermore on the superficial nature of writing. Many features are related to
modern linguistics, which range from physical properties of sound waves in utterances, to the

5.Communicative competence
Communicative competence is described as grammatical understanding of the perfect language, and
does not relate to the authentic use of language in actual circumstances. Communicative
competence emphasises the context in which utterance transpires, and the skill to accomplish a
range of speech acts. Four main components include:
5.1. Possibility ability to produce grammatical sentences; related to whether something is officially
possible or not. An open, knowledgeable and experienced speaker understands the sentence me go
sleep now contravenes the grammatical rules, while I am going to sleep now does not (Cook, 2003)
5.2. Feasibility ability to produce sentences which can be decoded by human brain; related to
whether something is achievable or not. Feasibility refers to a psychological concept concerned

How Does Charles Bukowski Use Figurative Language In The...
Inner strength is not about how many push ups or sit ups you can do. It is about how we keep
trudging on, instead of giving up. This is proven to be true in the two poems The Laughing Heart
and The Journey . These poems are all about how your inner strength allows you to keep on
going, when the going is tough. The poets astutely describes how much it takes to keep going and
not give in. The poets do this by using figurative language, tone, and diction. In The Laughing
Heart the poet (Charles Bukowski) uses figurative language to embrace the fact that some people
try to tempt you to do what they think is best. So the poet stated Don t let it be clubbed into dank

In the poem The Laughing Heart the poet sets a tone of direct. The poet made the tone by being
stern and candid in the way he wrote. Your life is your life (Bukowski 1). The poet was being
very frank in the way he stated that line. He was describing it that way on purpose so the readers
would start out thinking of this being very direct and to the point . Similarly the poet of The
Journey set multiple tones which consisted of anxious and hopeful. Towards the beginning she
stated their bad advice through the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at
your ankles (Oliver 5 9). That statement alone was a major indicator of the tone anxious. It was
showing how all the anger and bad advice puts stress on people. But the tone quickly changed
towards hopeful when in the lines twelve and thirteen the poet stated But you didn t stop. You
knew what you had to do, . It shows that the poet won t be stopped or held back by others who

five children to Sarah Mittenthal, his mother and Harris Copland, his father. He had two
brothers, Ralph and Leon and two sisters Laurine and Josephine. As early as the age of nine, he
began making up songs on the piano and two years later, his older sister Laurine began giving

Aaron Copland died on December 2nd 1990 in North Tarrytown, New York at the age of ninety.
Without question his most famous work is his Pulitzer Prize winning Appalachian Spring with
which he received the prestigious award in 1945. Commissioned by American dancer and
choreographer Martha Graham in 1943, Copland finished the work a year later while teaching at
Harvard. The song had a traditional American sound much like his previous works, Quiet City
and Billy the Kid and won immediate success with audiences when it debuted in Washington,
D.C. on October 30, 1944. The material of the piece is largely folk and even incorporates an old
shaker song called Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett written in 1848. One song, a patriotic
piece called A Lincoln Portrait was written at the beginning of World War II after Copland was
commissioned to write a musical portrait of an eminent American political figure. He quoted
original folk songs of the time such as the well known Camptown Races and also included material
from letters and speeches Lincoln had given.
When looking at the characteristics of his work, Copland could most likely be described as an
experimentalist. He often enjoyed mixing various stylistic ideas of Jazz and Mexican dance
rhythms into his music and did not shy away from including these styles into his film scores and

If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door. This quote was said by
a man who took that very close to home. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the
U.S., said this quote in one of his personal recordings. Harvey Milk is an important figure in history
because of his ability to persevere and inspire all those who are a part of the LGBTcommunity. Milk
is considered a hero because he refused to let his sexuality get in the way of his dreams and
inspired thousands to embrace their sexuality. Harvey Milk was born May 22, 1930 in Woodmere,
New York. He was a popular kid in his High School, and did many activities from football to opera.

former San Francisco Board Supervisor who had issues with Milk s sexuality and political

before Milk. Daniel White was only given five years for the assassinations due to the defense
that he had depression caused by consuming too much sugar. This was known as the Twinkie

Research Paper On Beowulf
The Anglo Saxon period stretched for over six hundred years, 410 to 1066. This period is often
referred to as the Dark Ages because the written documents from this era have become scarce.
This period was a time of war, separation of kingdoms, and religious conversions. The Anglo
Saxon s were a group of people descending from the German regions of Angeln and Saxon. They
cultivated Britain after the great fall of the Roman Empirearound AD 410.
`As the Anglo Saxon s settled in, the Jutes and the Frisians from Denmark were also settling in the
British Isles, but the Anglo Saxon settlers set their rules and became their own masters in a new
land. Throughout the period the Anglo Saxon s broke off into seven known kingdoms: Kent,

Around 850 the seven kingdoms consolidated into three kingdoms: Northumbria, Mercia, and
Wessex. Many Roman ways in their past culture were set aside in their new culture; they replaced
the Roman stone buildings with their own wooden ones, and spoke their own language, which gave
rise to the modern English spoken today. Although many spoke in different dialects, which over
time became known as Old English. Famous literature emerged in this era: the poem Beowulf and
the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, which both cover events in the early history of England.
The Anglo Saxon s followed their own religious beliefs until the arrival of Saint Augustine in AD
597, which lead to the conversion of Christianity. This period was very religious and Christianity
flourished throughout the Kingdoms. The social order of the Anglo Saxon s had four tiers: kings,
thanes, churls, and slaves. The kings ruled over the kingdoms and were always on top. Thanes
were very powerful men who reported to the king, and also had influence on the king. Thanes
could also own land. Below the

Unique Family Structures Displayed in Who Has Seen The Wind and To Set Our House in Order
All households studied in Who Has Seen the Wind and To Set Our House in Order, include minor
characters who have power, demonstrate acceptable behaviour yet fail to provide proper nurturing
all acting as major influences on the order with which the main characters conduct their lives.
The main characters in both works, both still quite young in their years, need older influences
within the home to demonstrate power, in order to grow up with structure to be better people.

Both works displayed three strong characters to demonstrate power within the home to help keep
structure for the young main characters, who not only are seen to need structure but are in need of
role models to demonstrate acceptable behaviour. As children growing up in the early to mid
twentieth century, the main characters Brian and Vanessa are in need for role models to
demonstrate acceptable behaviour for them to follow as they grow up. Brian s father Gerald O
Connal in Who Has Seen the Wind, is the first and most obvious character to demonstrate
acceptable behaviour, as he is a well respected statured man with a strong family life. Within the
novel, the author describes him as a quiet, slow smiling, and almost shy individual, (17). The
description makes the character always calm and in control during high pressure situations he faces
all through the novel, whether they be with his sick child, problems within the community, or
problems with his eldest son. Although little is seen of her in the novel, Brian s mother Maggie O
Connal demonstrates acceptable behaviour within their home, as she spends most of her time with
her sick baby in an effort to get home well. Brian s feelings for the situation are indicated when the
author states, Brian hated his mother for spending so much time with the baby, (4). However it was
only proper for the time for the mother to assure the health

The Importance Of Toxic Leadership
The Corps of the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) has been around since the formation of the
Continental Army in 1775. The basic responsibility of the NCO was to fill gaps in the lines and
keep soldiers quiet on mission while leading (Perkioniemi, 2009). Currently, the responsibilities of
the NCO focus on soldier welfare and accomplishing the mission (NCO Creed). Toxic leadershipis a
serious concern for the military, and it is undermining the reputation of the NCO Corps. What is
toxic leadership, how can it be addressed, and what will happen to the Corps if it is allowed to
continue?
Toxic leadership as defined by Wilson (2014) is a combination of self centered attitudes,
motivations, and behaviors that have adverse effects on subordinates, the organization, and
mission performance . NCOs, just as civilians, range from poor leaders to excellent leaders; but
when does poor leadership become toxic leadership and what causes this toxic leadership? Not
every soldier is born to lead. Some soldiers are bad decision makers, poor time managers, or just
unable to inspire confidence in their fellow soldiers. There is nothing wrong with being a
follower if you are a competent individual who can perform the given tasks. A NCO who cannot
step up and lead is not a toxic leader, they are a bad leader. With education and training NCOs with
poor leaderships skills develop into competent leaders.
Toxic leadership is a result of narcissistic leaders, individuals who have an

Plagiarism And The Consequences Of Plagiarism
In this paper we will cover plagiarism. We will cover a brief history of plagiarism and look at the
different types of plagiarism, as well as compare and contrast the different types. We will also
look at who is most prone to plagiarize and why. We will also discuss the role plagiarism plays in
academia and the consequences to plagiarizing. Webster s online Dictionary defines plagiarismas to
steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one s own: use (another s production) without
crediting the source [... or] to commit literary theft: present as new and original an idea or
product derived from an existing source. Many people believe that plagiarism is a relatively
new concept that came about as technology became more and more accessible, however this is
not the case. It is said that Shakespeare s plays are not his own work. Shakespeare traveled to
different regions and heard folk tales and stories from the people that lived in these areas and
wrote down what the people were saying and wrote it in play form. He tweaked the stories so
that they may be relatable to the English men and women that would attend his plays. Even
though Shakespeare s works are not his own, he is one of, if not the most recognized playwright
in the history of play writers. According to Turnitin.com there are 10 different types of plagiarism.
These 10 types of plagiarism are: clone, hybrid, ctrl c, mashup, find replace, 404 error, remix,
aggregator, recycle, and re tweet. Cloning is

Unit 4: Heat and Temperature
Topic A: Illustrate and explain how human needs have led to technologies for obtaining and
controlling thermal energy and to increased use of energy resources.
Investigate and interpret examples of heat related technologies and energy used in the past (e.g.
domestic and industrial purposes)
Steam engines were the first engine type to see use in industrial purposes. A fire heats water which
turns to steam and the steam then has the ability to move things. They were first invented by
Thomas Newcomen in 1705, and James Watt (a Scottish inventor) made big improvements to steam
engines in 1769. Steam engines powered all early cars, steamboats and factories.

Describe the effect of heat on the motion of particles, and explain changes of state using the particle
model of matter.
There are four basic components for thermal energy (heat): 1. All matter is made up of tiny
particles called atoms. These can only be seen with special microscopes. 2. The atoms are always
moving they all have kinetic energy. 3. The particles have space between them. Different states of
matter have different amounts of space. 4. Adding heat (energy) to matter makes the particles move
more quickly. Since faster moving things have more kinetic energy, adding heat increases the
energy of the particle. 5. Cooling it down decreases the amount of kinetic energy and slows the
movement down.
Distinguish between heat and temperature, and explain temperature using the concept of kinetic
energy and the particle model of matter.
Temperature: the average kinetic energy of individual atoms and molecules
Heat Energy: The collection of random molecules in action.
Compare heat transmission in different materials (e.g., conduction of heat in different solids,
absorption of radiant heat by different

The Carson Show
One of the greatest talk shows of all time, The Tonight show has been entertaining Americans for
more than 60 years. The show, produced by NBC Productions, first hit the air under the name
Tonight in 1954. The show then settled on the name The Tonight Show in 1962. Among the name
change there were many additional changes that have taken place in the shows running. The show
originally had two openings, one for a news affiliate that began at 11:15 p.m. EST and another for
those viewers who joined in at 11:30. In 1965, then host Johnny Carson refused to appear until
11:30, thus the show s start time changed to 11:30 p.m. EST. This was not the only time that the
shows aired time had changed, in fact the aired time as well as length time changed multiple times
throughout the shows running. A few additional impactful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Each host brought a unique flare to the show, however there are four hosts; Jonny Carson, Jay
Leno, Conan O Brien and Jimmy Fallon, that gave the show its superior qualities, making it the
longest airing talk show of all time. Carson who hosted the show from 1962 to1992 is the
longest serving host to date. He was the Gold Standard of hosts. He exemplified charisma and
depth. He could do political and social commentary, comedy skits and handle all kinds of
interviews from the serious to the silly. Carson served as the role model for all other American
talk show hosts who followed him. Leno who hosted the show from 1992 to 2009 replaced
Carson after he retired. The format of the show remained largely unchanged, consisting primarily
of an opening humorous monologue, followed by several celebrity interviews, comedy sketches
and musical numbers. Though I don t feel Leno was as comical as Carson and his interview skill
were lacking, he had an aura that drew people in. This likability is what causes him to receive a
second tenure from 2010 to 2014, after O Brien left the network due to scheduling

  • 3. Romeo And Juliet Comparative Analysis Romeo and Juliet has been a popular story for over 400 years, which was written by William Shakespeare. Two directors created their own interpretations of the play. Franco Zefferelli directed a version of the play which had many similarities and differences to Baz Luhrmann. Furthermore, both films have many similar and different interpretations of Mercutio from the original play. However, Harold Perrineau did a more realistic portrayal of Mercutio s death, while McEnery demonstrated a more comedic portrayal of Mercutio. In general, McEnery demonstrates being more comedic than Harold Perrineau. For example, when McEnery decides to pull up the nurse s dress and decides to make fun of her by singing that she is a prostitute. McEnery says to the Nurse, A bawd, a bawd, a bawd! So ho... No hare, sir;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leading up to Mercutio s death in front of Romeo in both films, when Tybalt and Mercutio are fighting, Zefferelli has them playing around. This scene makes it look like as if Tybalt and Mercutio are just fighting to fight. After Mercutio is stabbed, Benvolio asks Mercutio if he is hurt and Mercutio responds with, Ay, ay, a scratch. Marry, tis enough (Shakespeare 3.1.97 100). During these lines of dialogue, McEnery portrays Mercutio as a jokester because he crawls up the church steps and falls again, while everyone is laughing at him. Although, in the original play we know Mercutio jokes around and is never to be taken seriously, Mercutio s death in the modern film is more believable. Harold Perrineau portrays a more serious death of Mercutio. He acts more believable as someone actually dying. Mercutio s final moment happens when he gets a deep cut from a piece of glass during the fight between Tybalt. Mercutio is yelling at Romeo while he is dying. No one thinks that Mercutio is playing around. This is how Perrineau did an excellent job at portraying Mercutio s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Apple s Global Impact On Apple APPLE S GLOBAL IMPACT The world s leading software and electronics manufacturer Apple has revolutionized business operations in America. Apple s global ingenuity (Robbins Judge, 2013, p. 35) or its ability to use comparative advantages to advance its operations is a game changer. In acknowledging Apple s global stance, we consider the pros and cons for business decisions that propel the company forward, the expansion of its workforce outside of the United States, and the increase of employee diligence and flexibility at manufacturing facilities internationally. PROS AND CONS OF LOCAL AND OVERSEAS LABOR The world economy demands individuals drive innovation. Apple, has nearly 750,000 employees with only 43,000 of them being a part of the American workforce (Robbins Judge, 2013). Apple discovered that employing skilled workers outside the United States to assemble product hardware would position the company to better meet product demand. Global expansion equips Apple with the ability to meet demand, guarantee its customers a quality and reliable product, which in return generates billions of dollars in revenues annually. Although Apple is flourishing, acquiring overseas labor makes United States workers seem unmotivated and unfit to meet the demands of major companies (Robbins Judge, 2013). This limits the possibility for American workers to be employed in the world market by other major companies. However, it is inaccurate that American workers are unfit. ... • 5. Comparing Ancient Egypt And Sumer Arguably, two very impressive civilizations, Egypt and Sumer, took shape around the same time. This proximity provided them with remarkable similarities, yet a copious amount of differences still grew between the two areas. Largely due to their access to resources and environment, the communities grew in very different manners, which led to differences in political development, as well as their leaders, which in turn affected their overall success. In regards to Sumer, it flourished in the area of Mesopotamia, or as the Greeks called it, the Land between Rivers (Cole, et al 7). Specifically, these rivers were the Tigris and Euphrates. Despite being surrounded by waterways, Sumer existed in an extremely arid climate, which left the soil sandy and summer weather unbearably hot. The rivers presented a series of problems. Not only were the Tigris and Euphrates noted for their violence and unpredictably , but also both were prone to flooding (Cole, et al 7). Despite these adversities, Sumer still managed to grow into the first urban society (Cole, et al 7). Residents in this area quickly learned simply irrigation tactics, overtime these channels became more complex and allowed for decent farming. They also constructed dikes and levees to control the seasonal flooding (Cole, et al 8). As the Sumerians learned how to control the environmental elements that challenged them, the population in the urban areas began to grow. Specifically, by 3100 B.C.E., the area of Urukhad ... • 6. Mistakes In Into Thin Air Mistakes That Lead to Tragedies and Precautions That Lead to Success The best way to bring attention to a problem is tragedy. Unfortunately, this means reform will not happen until the loss or harm of life has already occurred. One example of this was seen in New York, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. This fire was the cause of 146 deaths and many more injuries; however, this lead to new law regulating work safety standards. While this is a tragedy that caused reform in 1911, the same method of reform stands today. This can be seen in the novel, Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. The novel is an account of what happened on the mountain during the 1996 Everest expedition. While the expedition started off with high hopes and dreamers ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to continue climbing Everest, many aspects of climbing need to be improved before more people endanger their lives to try and reach the roof of the world. The guides have some areas that need the most reform. During the ascension of Everest the guides made a plethora mistakes that seemed insignificant but only aided in disaster. The guides first mistake is allowing any bloody idiot [with enough determination] up Everest (Krakauer 153). By allowing any bloody idiot with no climbing experience to try and climb the most challenging mountain in the world, the guides are almost inviting trouble. Having inexperienced climbers decreases the trust a climbing team has in one another, causing an individual approach to climbing the mountain and more reliance on the guides. While this approach appears fine, this fault is seen in addition to another in Scott Fischer s expedition Mountain Madness. Due to the carefree manner in which the expedition was run, clients [moved] up and down the mountain independently during the acclimation period, [Fischer] had to make a number of hurried, unplanned excursions between Base Camp and the upper camps when several clients experienced problems and needed to be escorted down, (154). Two problems present in the Mountain Madness expedition were seen before the summit push: the allowance of inexperienced climbers and an unplanned climbing regime. A third problem that aided disaster was the difference in opinion in regards to the responsibilities of a guide on Everest. One guide went down alone many hours ahead of the clients and went without supplemental oxygen (318). These three major issues: allowing anyone up the mountain, not having a plan to climb Everest and differences in opinion. All contributed to the disaster on Everest in ... • 7. Biblical Allegory In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies William Golding, author of Lord of the Flies, once said, man produces evil as a bee produces honey. While humans are capable of being good and bad, Golding believes that a human s natural instinct is evil. No matter how good someone will try to be, falling to evil is easier than it is to be good. In Lord of the Flies, Golding explores this idea of good versus evil by depicting a group of boys stranded on an unknown island. Ralph, a boy elected as chief, tries to maintain a sense of civilization on the island. Jack, the novel s antagonist, leans towards the idea of savagery and the worst of human would behave in survival. Through this novel William Golding shows that a humans natural response is cruelty. William Golding s Lord of the Flies can be interpreted as a multifaceted biblical allegory that is meant to show, through the depiction of the island and its characters, the sinfulness of humankind. More specifically, the story can be seen as an allegory for Adam and Eve, Jesus and the devil s temptations, and the Biblical end of times. Lord of the Flies is a microcosm representation for the Garden of Eden in the Bible. In the beginning of the novel, the boys describe the island as a beautiful place saying, It was clear to the bottom and bright with efflorescence of tropical weed and coral (Golding 12). This part of the novel is similar to the story in the Bible of Adam and Eve. Many characters represent an important part of the story of Adam and Eve. In the Bible, ... LLCs are popular because, similar to a corporation, owners have limited personal liability for the debts and actions of the LLC. Since most states do not restrict ownership, members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities. There is no maximum number of members. Limited liability companies are the popular new choice for business start ups. The LLC has only been in existence for roughly 26 years and there are some definite pros and cons. A limited liability company is a creature of state law. Prior to the late 1970s, it had never been a choice for businesses because it didn t exist. In the late 1970s, the State of Wyoming passed an act creating it. It took another ten years or so before other states caught on. Once they did, the mad rush was on to pass legislation allowing for the creation of LLCs in nearly all states. The world of business entities had been changed forever. The LLC is a business entity designed to help small business. As a result, most of the positive reasons for using it are catered to such business. In a general view, the entity is heavily ... • 9. The Misfit Grandmother From the last quote it is concluded that both the Misfit and the Grandmother are equal to the eyes of God. Consequently, from a Catholic perspective, when she recognizes him as one of her children, she is acknowledging their participation in the Mystical Body of Christ. However, at the same time, the touching of the Misfit by the Grandmother is an acceptance of the evil by which the Misfit has been treated, I call myself The Misfit, he say, because I can t make what all I done wrong fit what all I gone through in punishment (O Connor 142). The touching, as an act for forgiveness, is what unsteadies the Misfit, who has known only suffering and meanness in this life (142). Then, the act of the Grandmother does correspond to an offering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Does her performance fit that of a Catholic? Apparently, it does not. The Grandmother s attitude in the story echoes that of a Protestant, specifically, that of a Puritan. As the story progresses, the Grandmother voices the importance of success in redemption. The Grandmother presents herself as a lady who wears white cotton gloves , a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white violets in the brim and a matching dress (O Connor 130). This lady is quite self centered, manipulative, and proud; she is constantly persuading her family to make them do what she wants. For example, after the Grandmother has convinced them to take the dirt road, and she realizes that the house they are looking for is not in Georgia, but in Tennessee, the Grandmother stays silent to avoid the embarrassment. However, the most distinctive aspect of the Grandmother s personality is her sense of Utopia. She is constantly recoiling better times which she associates with the Old South of Gone with the Wind, when there were no paved roads (135), and more importantly, when good men were easy to find. There also traces of what Lipset calls morality plays in the Grandmother; at the beginning of the story, the Grandmother does not want to go to Florida because she wouldn t take [her] children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it. [She] couldn t answer to [her] conscience if [she] did (129). From the latter is drawn that she sees the Misfit situation as a battle against the Devil, and then it is unthinkable to get even close to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of Prospective Cohort Study Data Statistical Analysis An objective of the analysis of prospective cohort study data is to compare disease occurrence in the group to the exposure factors. Disease occurrence is measured using cumulative incidence or incidence rates, and the relationship between exposure and disease occurrence is quantified by the cumulative incidence or incidence rate difference and ratio. Calculating an incidence rate involves determining the amount of person time accrued by each study subject. Relative risks of each of the variables that are evaluated in the study are calculated. In addition, a Cox proportional hazard models is used to analyzed the relationship between environmental and genetic factors and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Persons years were calculated for all the individuals from the beginning of the prospective cohort study until the end of the study or end due to loss to follow up. The reasoning for utilizing the Cox proportional hazards models is because the study has continuous and multiple covariates. Each of the factors need to be evaluate and compare in order to establish whether there is a relationship between environmental factors and the manifestation of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Multivariate analysis is necessary to implement due to the potential number of confounding variables in the study. Multivariate analysis involves the construction of a mathematical model that describes the association between exposure, disease, and confounders. This type of analysis is ... • 11. Military Capability During Peacetime Innovation Resources, accurate innovation, political support, and privatized development are four crucial factors for enhancing military capability during peacetime innovation. Therefore, countries that effectively manage internal resources, and are funded through political support will often be at the forefront of militarydevelopment. Moreover, accurate innovationis essential in ensuring that innovated technology aligns with the required capabilities to defend the nation. Therefore, countries with political support in achieving their military vision through accurate peacetime innovation, often have the upper hand in future military strength. Political support is the primary and foremost key component in developing successful innovation. Furthermore, military innovation cannot deviate from the strategic guidance of the nation, without reconstructing the defense strategy and military vision. Nonetheless, this reconstruction can occur if the current innovation and military development is defined upon outdated technology. Therefore, peacetime innovation is an opportunity to combat deficiencies as well as capability gaps, in order to maintain the competitive edge against potential enemies or threats to a nation. Most importantly, the cost of the innovation, training, and implementation must be feasible through funding and allocation with approval by bureaucrats. Spending outside ones means in this factor will result in both incomplete and inadequate innovation. 1 Political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These guidelines encourage healthy eating practices in which individuals have to change their current eating habits, in order to make better choices when it comes to food and drink intake. They also help individuals understand that as a part of a society, they all play an important role in promoting healthy choices. However, this does not restrict their eating behavior. In fact, they can still enjoy their food and beverage choices, while they are encouraged to make better, healthier choices. Although there are different dietary guidelines recommended by physicians and all affirms that shifting to healthier eating pattern improves health, the 2015 Dietary Guideline provides eating pattern recommendations that are easy to follow and accessible to all, regardless of culture and economic status. Through constant research, a question was raised to see how these guidelines align with another nutritional diet, more specifically the Paleo Diet. This diet is focused on bettering the well being of individuals, while allowing them to live healthier and stronger lives. It is important to understand the positive suggestions that the US Dietary Guidelines lays out, but to also see how the Paleo Nutritional Diet matches up with these guidelines, in order to determine which is more influential to follow for an individual s health. Think of the global economy as a group of friends; Sam, Ben, and GГјnter, who are all wealthy in their own way. Let s say GГјnter and Ben have resources that Sam wants, Sam will pay for it, which adds to GГјnter and Bens wealth. Now having money, GГјnter and Sam buy resources that Sam has. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where the problem starts. Throughout its history the U.S. has gone through crisis after crisis from poor management, and the selective trust that the stock market offers. The market was responsible for a financial panic in 1907 in which, The Knickerbocker Trust was unable to save itself from failure, and the public started to fear that the banking and trust industries were experiencing liquidity issues and the runs on banks began (US History for Kids 5). Once these liquidity issues started it was in some people s minds that Teddy Roosevelt would break apart these powerful trusts. For this reason, investors stopped funding the banks and took their money out of the banks. In turn causing a trickle down effect that lead many non investing people to do the same. The Panic of 1907 lasted a little less than a month, but was enough to give U.S. citizens a scare. A few years later in 1913 the U.S. announced, the creation of the Fed and income tax (Domitrovic 1). The Panic made people behave more cautiously with their money, which is a problem if people save too much, these taxes made this cautious spending a problem. Also, children who experience frequent anger or boredom cannot fully develop their potential and stable personalities, despite their genetics, improvements from parent, interactions promote the health and development of vulnerable children. Not all children s temperaments fall into the categories that are described. Children who share the same temperament trait might react quite differently in similar situations, or throughout different stages in their development. An example, of this is when children see someone they are not familiar with their reactions to their temperament will allow them to show their feelings and identify their temperament. When you understand your own temperament, traits help you understand the childs perspective. This reflective process can help you become more attuned to the experience of each child This will help you determine what might be needed to create a better fit for each child. When talking about a child, you must ask the parents to help you understand their child s activity level, and how their child response to new situations, and their child s persistence, distractibility, adaptability, mood, intensity, sensitivity so that you can learn about their child s temperament and the familys cultural. It is important to listen to how the family feels about the temperament characteristics of their child. Therefore, it is important to understand that although a child s basic temperament does not change over time, the intensity of temperamental trait can be affected by a family s cultural values and parenting styles. For example, a family that values persistence the ability to stick to a task and keep trying may be more likely to praise and reward a child for sticking with a challenging task as building a tower with Lego s. I cannot judge a child s temperament traits as good or bad. According to the customer contact approach proposed by Chase and Tansik [1,6,7], customer contact activities should be decoupled from non contact activities to do justice to their different design requirements and maximize the efficiency of the service delivery system. Consequently, service organizations consist of a front stage and a back stage. In the back office customer contact is passive or nonexistent, service processes may be designed with manufacturing like principles in mind [6]. The process may take advantage of standardization and automation to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. While in the front stage customer contact is high and active, it brings about unavoidable inefficiencies, and the human relation skills become a dominant factor in designing the process [6]. Study [8] adds that moving some of the back stage functions from developed areas (or even countries) to underdeveloped regions may increase greatly efficiency because of the reduction in labor costs and taxation. 2.2.2 Decoupling for Speed, Quality and Sales Opportunities However, back stage tasks need not only be viewed as tasks where ... Cultural transmission theories determine that the values, beliefs, and norms of subcultures (deviant or no) contrast with the dominant culture. Therefore, it is possible for a subculture to justify criminal behavior as normal or necessary when it comes to one s reputation and self defense. Because the southern region of the United States is known to have high crimerates than other regions of the United States and as a whole, the subculture of violencetheory was hypothesized by Wolfgang and Ferracuti during the late 1960s. Other researchers: Ball Rokeach, 1973; Erlanger, 1974; and Hartnagel, 1980 theorized what factors may be the cause of the high crime rates in the southern region as well. This discussion will explore the implications of whether or not their findings adequately support the existence of the subculture of southern violence theory. Wolfgang and Ferracuti furthered the subculture of violence theory from the insights of cultural deviance theorists before them. Basing their theorizations entirely upon inferences from available statistics on homicide at that time, which illustrated a concentration of violent crimein primarily poor, racialized neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Through these statistics, the authors deduce that subcultural violence is a uniquely marginalized male phenomenon. Wolfgang and Ferracuti argue that violence is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fees Must Fall originated in South Africa and is known as a movement led by students convincing government officials to lower university fees in order for the citizens to attend, while Black Lives Matter is a movement known for promoting black lives and responding to previous discrimination against black people. Animals have been treated immorally since the beginning of time, this is shown by hunting, farming, trapping, testing of products and biomedical research etc. As humans, majority of us claim animals as our resources as we use them for eating, making clothing, (leather and fur jackets, shoes) working animals, as a means of transport, animal testing etc. In this essay I will discuss the use of animals in biomedical research and state why some believe it is morally justified. Frisian is a part of the Proto Indo European language family, specifically the Germanic branch in the Western Germanic tradition. Frisian developed in the Western Germanic family and then it grew and changed from Old Frisian into Modern Frisian. Frisian, unlike English, has no intervening steps between Old Frisian and Modern Frisian: e.g. English developed from Old English, to Middle English, to Modern English. West Frisian is the largest and most viable of the Frisian speech communities. The most striking fact about West Frisian, as opposed to East and North Frisian, is its relative uniformity dialectally speaking (Markey: 2011). It is in the realm of phonology that West Frisian evinces the greatest evolution from that of Old Frisian. The morphology, while further simplified in directions foreshadowed even in Classical Old Frisian, is not radically changed. In the literature it is quite generally assumed that Old Frisian is an SOV language, i.e. a language with a subject (S) complement (O) verb (V) order in simplex sentence structure. In this observational statement, V refers to non finite verbs essentially, since it is assumed that these forms are indicative of the basic position of verbs (Studies in West Frisian Grammar: 2010). According to the same book, it was noted that a number of cases of grammatical influence of Dutch on Frisian were discussed, especially regarding a morphological example of this influence which is a change in the system of Frisian diminutive formation. The syntax of the Frisian verbal complex differs in several ways from the Dutch one. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent braindiseases,55one of them is Amblyopia.56 The deп¬Ѓcits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24 months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. • 35. Difference Between Language And Linguistics INTRODUCTION Although language and linguistics have differences, they interact with each other via significance, influence and implications shared through language teaching. Linguistics is the scientific study of language which is composed of sound and speech sound, and is concerned with how language is structured, how language is changed, how people use the language and what they must know in order to do so. In the 19th century, the focus of linguistics was more about writing than speaking, however in the 20th century, the focus was initially on the primary sound, and furthermore on the superficial nature of writing. Many features are related to modern linguistics, which range from physical properties of sound waves in utterances, to the intentions speaker have towards conversation with ... This is proven to be true in the two poems The Laughing Heart and The Journey . These poems are all about how your inner strength allows you to keep on going, when the going is tough. The poets astutely describes how much it takes to keep going and not give in. The poets do this by using figurative language, tone, and diction. In The Laughing Heart the poet (Charles Bukowski) uses figurative language to embrace the fact that some people try to tempt you to do what they think is best. The poet was being very frank in the way he stated that line. He was describing it that way on purpose so the readers would start out thinking of this being very direct and to the point . Similarly the poet of The Journey set multiple tones which consisted of anxious and hopeful. Towards the beginning she stated their bad advice through the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles (Oliver 5 9). That statement alone was a major indicator of the tone anxious. It was showing how all the anger and bad advice puts stress on people. But the tone quickly changed towards hopeful when in the lines twelve and thirteen the poet stated But you didn t stop. You knew what you had to do, . It shows that the poet won t be stopped or held back by others who treat her wrong. The basic responsibility of the NCO was to fill gaps in the lines and keep soldiers quiet on mission while leading (Perkioniemi, 2009). Currently, the responsibilities of the NCO focus on soldier welfare and accomplishing the mission (NCO Creed). Toxic leadershipis a serious concern for the military, and it is undermining the reputation of the NCO Corps. What is toxic leadership, how can it be addressed, and what will happen to the Corps if it is allowed to continue? Toxic leadership as defined by Wilson (2014) is a combination of self centered attitudes, motivations, and behaviors that have adverse effects on subordinates, the organization, and mission performance . NCOs, just as civilians, range from poor leaders to excellent leaders; but when does poor leadership become toxic leadership and what causes this toxic leadership? Not every soldier is born to lead. Some soldiers are bad decision makers, poor time managers, or just unable to inspire confidence in their fellow soldiers. There is nothing wrong with being a follower if you are a competent individual who can perform the given tasks. A NCO who cannot step up and lead is not a toxic leader, they are a bad leader.
