The Kreme Of Krispy Kreme
Vernon Carver Rudolph established Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in 1937 in Winston Salem, North
Carolina. Krispy Kreme produced doughnuts on a much larger scale by the 1950 s via an automated
system. They introduced their Doughnut Theater in the 1980 s, which allowed its customers to watch
the production process, giving them a multi sensory experience. They were able to expand to
California by 1999 because of their one of a kind atmosphere (Krispy Kreme 2011 Annual Report).
They opened their first international store in Canada two years later and experienced rapid growth
through 2004. Their success slowed over the next five years because they could not sustain their
growth. They closed 240 domestic stores, which cost $300 million. International growth boomed, and
396 new stores opened around the world. In 2011, domestic markets began to look up for the first time
since 2005. Krispy Kreme is divided between its domestic and international business and subdivided
by its on site and off site sales with 229 domestic stores and 317 international ones (Krispy Kreme
2011 Annual Report).
Krispy Kreme plans to remain primarily a doughnut shop since 88 percent of their sales result from its
doughnuts. In 2011, Krispy Kreme had total revenues of $362 million, a 4.5 percent increase.
Doughnut sales in grocery stores have had a steady one percent annual increase while convenience
stores are expanding at a slightly faster pace of two %. As competition increased and the turn of the

Micromolecules Lab Report
3.4. Distribution of micromolecules in pretreated bio oil
Micromolecules in bio oil, and pretreated bio oil were identified from the GC/MS analysis and
classified based on their chemical structure and functional groups. Their relative amounts are
presented in Table 4. Total amounts of micromolecules were reduced after the pretreatment, despite
the high yield of liquid product. Therefore, it might be due to the dilution with ethanol. Also, the
distribution also strikingly changed during this reaction. Almost of acetic acid, and levoglucosan,
which are known as decline bio oil stability and properties, were changed into the ester form with
ethanol, such as acetic acid ethyl ester, and levulinic acid ethyl ester. The compound like 2,2 diethoxy
ethanol was only identified in the pretreated bio oil, so it might be resulted from the reaction of
ethanol itself. Since amberlyst 36 also has a capacity to phenol purification, total micromolecular
phenols decreased from 38.1 to 13.4 17.2. Generally, almost of phenols reduced during the reaction,
alkylated phenols like cresol, 2,4 dimethyl phenol, or 4 ethyl phenol were strikingly decreased.
Therefore, it was suggested that phenol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ketones and phenols increased in the heavy oil 2.4 3.9 times and 1.0 1.3 times, respectively. From
this result, it might be conjectable that unstable bio oil became stable heavy oil, via two step HDO.
Compared with pretreated bio oil, hydrogenated or dealkylated ketones like 2 cyclopentene 1 one, 3
hexanone, cyclopentanone, 2 ethyl cyclopentanone, and 2 methyl cyclopentanone were identified. 1 (1

The Agents Of The Transportation Security Administration
The agents of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have become notorious for their
insolence and ludicrous actions during bag checks and screenings. TSA agents have been known to
cause many instances of harassment and other inconveniences to the average passenger. A TSA agent
once admitted that the first question to ask to anyone in a wheelchair is if he is able to stand for a pat
down search. If someone is in a wheelchair, it is likely that he is unable to stand. Even when he is
sitting, the TSA agent must ask him to move so that they can check under his bottom ( Confessions of
a TSA agent: we re all a bunch of airheads , 2013). The TSA has caused inconveniences to passengers
trying to board. Ashley Brant from Washington D.C. was told she may not be able to return home after
a TSA agent told her that her District of Columbia ID was not valid because the TSA requires a state
ID to board, and apparently, the U.S. district does not count as a state (Davis, 2014). There have been
many instances such as those, resulting in the TSA becoming associated with absurd rules and
incompetent employees. The TSA, established November 19, 2001, as a direct result of the terrorist
attacks on September 11, 2001, was designed to fortify the security of the nation s transportation
systems. The administration consists of approximately 50,000 officers, inspectors, air marshals, and
managers who are supposed to provide adequate security for the nation s modes of transportation and

Two Riders On The Beach By Max Liebermann
People all over the world long for new adventures. One way people seek to find new adventures is by
traveling to new and interesting places. Most people visit places they have never been before. One
country all tourists should visit is Germany because of the food, art, and architecture. First of all,
tourists should visit Germany, because of the amazing food. One amazing German dish that any tourist
should try when they go to Germany is Streuselkuchen. Streuselkuchen is a traditional German dish. It
is a very tasteful German dish. Pretzels are also a traditional German food that most Americans love.
Most people do not know that Pretzels come from Germany. pretzels are salty, very soft, and full of
taste.Bratwurst and potato salad comes from Germany too. They are full of taste that might just make
all tourists feel right at home. These are just a few amazing foods in Germany, and there are much

to make him look very realistic. The way the waves come crashing on the rocks and splashing give it a
very vivid look. The last but not the least wonderful painting in Germany. This one is by Albrecht
Dürer it is a printmaking. This printmaking is called Dürer s Rhinoceros. When first looking at this

A Class DIvided Essay
A CLASS DIVIDED
Thirty years ago Jane Elliott taught the third grade in the white, Christian community of Riceville,
Iowa. The day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed she planned an exercise that wouldn t just show her
students what racism is rather, it would give them first hand experience of what it felt like to be
oppressed for something out of their control.
Elliott divided her class by the color of their eyes, marked them with armbands and proceeded to treat
one group as if superior in capabilities to the other. The superior students performed better than they
ever had before, while the inferior students performance dropped. The next day, the third graders
traded ranks and their performance reversed in accordance to their ... Show more content on

(INTERVIEW WITH JANE ELLIOT) http://www.newsreel.org/transcri/essenblue.htm The children
learned that discrimination has a tangible affect on their performance in everyday activities. Elliott has
gone on to do the exercise with numerous adults and almost without exception the participants
abilities, such as reading and writing, are grossly affected.
Jane Elliott s approach is especially relevant today. It demonstrates that even without juridical
discrimination; hate speech, lowered expectations, and dismissive behavior can have devastating
effects on achievement. Black members of the blue eyed group forcefully remind whites that they
undergo similar stresses, not just for a few hours in a controlled experiment, but every day of their
lives. Although these concepts are food for thought... they are merely preludes to the main course. The
most important lesson to be learned here is that just one person can make a difference.
Next we join a group of 40 teachers, police, school administrators and social workers in Kansas City
blacks, Hispanics, whites, women and men. The blue eyed members are subjected to pseudo scientific
explanations of their inferiority, culturally biased IQ tests and blatant discrimination. When the
inevitable resistance by a blue eyes surfaces, Elliot cites the outburst as an example of

Catholic Influence On Guatemala
In this chapter the author describes the religious impact specifically Catholic Church on the politics of
Guatemala; while Catholic influence was strong in Guatemala, the church had to work to keep out
other religious influences such as Protestantism. The primary source is about archbishop Oscar
Romero, he taken aback by the death of his friend who died at the hand of the government security
forces; in his speech he says while there is a lot of suffering in the country, in the end God has a plan
for all of us, he encourages the people to work for reform and freedom; he also pleads to the soldiers
to stop killing because the message that comes from God is something they should follow over any
order given by a government. I found it interesting

The Similarities and Differences Between Client-Centered...
The similarities and differences between client centered and psychodynamic therapies are:
Client centered therapy: An approach to counseling where the client determines the general direction
of therapy, while the therapist seeks to increase the client s insightful self understanding through
informal simplified questions. The client is the focal point of the sessions, the therapist takes a back
seat to learn about the person, and watch as the client moves toward the achievement of their full
potential through creativity.
The difference with client centered therapy than psychodynamic therapy is the client directs their own
development and moves at their own pace. The therapist is a source of understanding and
encouragement, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the many differences there are some main similarities between client centered and
psychodynamic therapy in that they are both approaches to counseling helping clients overcome
obstacles to personal growth and to bring a better quality of life for the client. Also both are focused
on the problems/issues that may or have already hindered the client from successful relationships.
They are both based on empathy, acceptance and understanding providing ways of responding to a
wide range of human needs and providing opportunities for those seeking help to work towards ways
of living in more satisfying and resourceful ways.
My article for this week was The Client Counselor Match and the Corrective Emotional Experience:
Evidence from Interpersonal and Attachment Research written by Annie Bernier and Mary Dozier
from the University of Delaware. The article suggest the client counselor match as a helping condition
for a healing emotional experience and revisits the appropriate facts from attachment and interpersonal
studies. In reading the article this week I believe it does lend validity to client centered therapy, with
client centered therapy, the therapist and client must have a building relationship, understanding and a
meeting of the minds so to speak.
It is generally recognized that the

The Horror Of The Vietnam War
Well Done
Since the Vietnam War was fought in Southeast Asia, it is difficult for many Americans to imagine
what the people of South Vietnam experienced during the Vietnam War. To better understand, the
American people had to rely on eye witness accounts, film clips, and photographs. One photograph in
particular captures the horror of the Vietnam War. It is the image of Phan Phuc, a naked, nine year old,
South Vietnamese girl, taken on June 8, 1972, by Nick Ut. The photograph shows the horrors of
napalm, the emotionless soldiers, and photo journalists, and children suffering.
Jets tear through the air over a green jungle in Vietnam. What is a beautiful, peaceful, thriving jungle,
with villages and families will soon be a charred ash pit with nothing but the lingering feeling of what
once was. As bombs drop and the liquid fire races through the jungle, everything in its path is
destroyed. Trees that have stood the test of time, burned over. Resource providing plants turned to ash.
People s homes and everything they have, destroyed. They flee, screaming for their lives. Mothers and
fathers separated from their families. Children left to die in a burning jungle. While some make it out,
most are likely charred to crisp. Left homeless, with nowhere to go. Bodies lie on the scorched jungle
floor like burnt pines in a California wildfire. The smell of burnt flesh burns your nostrils. Thick,
black smog fills the air and begins to flatten out over the acreage. As if it is chasing

Deep Vein Thrombosis Case Study
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a serious medical condition that affects certain hospitalized patients.
The healthcare team, especially the registered nurse, must understand what this condition entails, who
it affects, and how to prevent and treat this condition. The proper knowledge and training will allow
the registered nurse to be able to keep the patients safe and help prevent complication from deep vein
thrombosis.
A DVT is a blood clot that can occur anywhere in the body, but these blood clots tend to occur in the
deep veins of the legs and thighs. It is critical that these clots are diagnosed and treated promptly to
prevent further complications such as a pulmonary embolism, which occurs when a blood clot travels
from the lower extremities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The registered nurse must be observant of any clinical signs that require further assessment such as the
signs and symptoms stated earlier in this paper. Previously, nurses were taught to use the Homan s
sign to assess for a DVT. After extensive research, it has been found that the Homan s sign is not as
effective as previously documented. Therefore, after additional research, the registered nurse can use
the Wells model when assessing a patient for a DVT. The Wells model is a numerical scale similar to
other scales used within the nursing practice and consists of a scoring system that predicts the
likelihood of a DVT. The Wells model assesses for the following criteria: if a patient has active cancer,
any paralysis, if the patient has been bedridden for more than 3 days or had a major surgery within the
last 4 weeks, Is the patient experiencing any local tenderness, any swelling or pitting edema in the leg
or calf, or is there an alternative diagnosis that is more likely than a DVT. These areas are scored with
a number 1 if positive and a 0 if negative. A score of 3 or more would indicate a high probability for a
DVT. A score of 1 or 2 would indicate a moderate probability, and a score of 0 would indicate a low
probability of a DVT. When doing an assessment, the registered nurse can quickly use the Wells
model to determine if further assessment is

Creatine Side Effects On Nutritional Supplements
This creatine side effects update covers sources of creatine in food, effective supplementation and
study results of creatines effectiveness.
Over the last decade, thousands of articles have been written about creatine side effects in scientific
journals, magazines, newspapers, and on the Internet. The reason for this interest is that creatine
supplements have proven to be one of the most effective methods available to increase strength,
power, and muscle mass. Moreover, a number of potential therapeutic creatine benefits have been
suggested for various patient populations. Despite this impressive body of research, concerns have
been raised about the safety of creatine side effects and ethics of athletes taking performance
enhancing nutritional supplements. While a number of very good reviews have been published about
creatine side effects in the scientific literature, a significant amount of misinformation has been
written about creatine side effects, particularly in the popular media. Additionally, several nutritional
supplement companies have attempted to gain market share by perpetuating some of these creatine
side effect myths. The result is that people are often confused about the potential creatine benefits and
risks of creatine supplements.
The purpose of this article is to provide an update on the state of the science regarding creatine side
effects as well as to answer some common questions about creatine supplements so that you can make

How Magic Plays in the Real World with St. Thomas Aquinas ...
St. Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican professor that began teaching at the University of Paris in the
year 1256, in theology. His works in the field of theology were greatly influenced by Aristotle as well
as Plato. His main goal in the section of his writing, Summa Contra Gentiles, was to explain how
magic was portrayed in the natural world . He was trying to show non Christians, especially Muslims,
how Catholic beliefs could be rationalized. All the documents of St. Aquinas s that were paired
together in the section of the book by the editors were detailed works that were seen as controversial
back when they were first published. One of the works in this section, titled Commentary on the Four

Based off of Aquinas work, Summa Contra Gentiles, one would assume that he did believe in magic,
although he did not come outright and say it. Nevertheless, he informed his readers that magicians
performed their magic not just through God and heavenly ways, but also through celestial ways. They
may not have performed their magic with just God s powers help, yet they would not have been able
to perform with only celestial ways either, they came together hand in hand. However, he explained
that magic that came from the heavenly bodies was natural magic. Therefore, anything that could not
be considered natural could not have come from heaven or God. He also went into greater detail
explaining that an inanimate object could not possibly move by itself through the powers of God or
heavenly forces. Aquinas did not speak about witches, however, his brief mention of pacts having
been a necessity to speak to a demon later brought up the issue of magicians, and even later the issue
of witches signing pacts. Throughout this work of his, he spoke only of magicians and their way of
performing magic. In order to perform their magic, he explained that they were to speak certain words
to receive the outcomes they desired. The words did not hold the power, the magician himself did. To
build upon this, very powerful magicians were able to produce what they desired simply through
thought. If someone was able to make what they wanted to happen with words

An Analysis Of Maggie Johnson s The Great Gatsby
Maggie Johnson first came into my attention when she was found lying in the filth of a darken ally
way in Bowery. She was taken into a local hospital where she was treated for dehydration for minor
cuts. The medical staff contacted me to see if we could set up an appointment to meet with one
another. Maggie is a twenty one year old, Caucasian female. During my first meeting with her, I noted
that Maggie was a very beautiful young lady although she looked very tired, there were dark circles
under her eyes, and her hair was greasy as if she had not bathed in days, she was thin, and there were
bruises covering her body. Maggie s was currently working as a prostitution. Maggie comes from a
very strained family life, living in poverty. She lives in a horrific tenement in the Bowery
neighborhood of New York s Lower East Side, with her two younger brothers, Jimmie and Tommie.
Jimmie is hardened against any sympathy due to the years he spent on the streets fighting with gangs
and is currently working as a truck driver. Tommie was the infant of the family who passed away at a
young age. The tenement is filled with argumentative feelings amongst her parents. Mary Johnson,
Maggie s mother, is an alcoholic and very aggressive. She has been noted for torturing Maggie with
hateful words over actions that she has done. Mr. Johnson, the father, was also very aggressive with
his children and an alcoholic like his wife, he too passed away. Maggie had a relationship with a

Ratio Analysis On The Performance Of Business Organisations
Several academicians are moving towards elimination of ratio analysis as an analytical technique in
assessing the performance of business organisations. Theorists downgrade arbitrary rules of thumb,
which includes company ratio comparisons, widely used by practitioners. Since attacks on the
relevance of ratio originated from esteemed members of scholarly society, this poses the question if
ratio analysis is limited to the world of nuts and bolts ? Can we bridge the gap rather than sever the
link between traditional ratio analysis and the popular rigorous statistical techniques which is more
popular among academicians in recent years (Edward Altman 2012).
The Co operative is a group of people acting together to meet the common needs and objectives of its

Prestige Telephone Company Case Study
In April 2003, Daniel Rowe, president of Prestige Telephone Company, was preparing for a meeting

and an agreement with the state Public Service Commission had permitted Prestige Telephone to
establish a computer data service subsidiary to perform data processing for the telephone company
and to sell computer service to other companies and organizations. Mr. Rowe had told the commission

From the start of operations of Prestige Data Services in 2000 there had been problems. Equipment

important, customers were harder to find than earlier estimates had led the company to expect. By the
end of 2002, when income of Prestige Telephone was low enough to necessitate a report to
shareholders revealing the lowest return on investment in seven years, Rowe felt it was time to
reassess Prestige Data Services. Susan Bradley asked for more time, as she felt the subsidiary would

Rowe received two reports on operations of Prestige Data Services. The Summary of Computer

A Brief Note On Animal Endangerment And Vulnerability
In this essay I shall be looking at a few practitioners consisting of Illustrators, painters and film
makers; each create awareness in their own unique and distinguishable form for the subject of animal
endangerment and vulnerability. I shall also be studying which socially engaging visual practice is
most effective and why.
It is thought that scientists have discovered only 17.5 million species on this world; which seems quite
a significant amount but when also considering that it s only thought that 20% of them are estimated
to live, it seems like nothing. Unfortunately, not every single animal and organism can be protected
from such problems as deforestation, climate change, illegal wildlife trading, pollution, oil and gas
development. One example would be forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet; they produce
vital oxygen and provide homes for people and wildlife. Many of the worlds most threatened and
endangered animals live in the forests, and 1.6 million people rely on the benefits the forests offer
(World Wildlife, 2015). Animal endangerment is a subject we are all very aware of but the majority of
us fall into the sad category of not actually doing anything about it. Many groups and organisations
and committed to helping keep these animals protected; although this alone has a massive impact on
wildlife as donations not only keep animals safe but you can actually adopt and take care of one. To
protect and conserve nature sounds like it should be one of

The Pros And Cons Of Open Carry
The open presence of guns in public life can quickly escalate everyday conflicts into deadly
altercations. It has been one cause of tragic, irreversible damage to innocent lives of citizens through
the long US history. Despite the evidence that openly carrying firearms in public spaces endangers
public safety, most states lack laws to limit open carry and some have even taken steps to weaken
regulation regarding the practice. Historically, most states either prohibited or strongly regulated the
carrying of firearms in public spaces. Over the past three decades, however, state laws have changed
dramatically. In that time, many states have significantly weakened their laws to permit more and
more people to carry guns in public places and to reduce or eliminate local law enforcement s ability
to keep potentially dangerous people from carrying guns in public. Open carry refers to the practice of
carrying a firearm in public. It has been legal in many states since the 19th century. Proponents of
open carry claim that criminals usually conceal their weapons in contrast to the law abiding citizens
who display their sidearms. Also the regulation of guns open carry would ... Show more content on

chosen works effectively for each company.
Loss Leader
Look in any newspaper circular, it is chocked full of advertisements from untold numbers of retailers
who are trying to push loss leaders onto consumers. The loss leader is an item that is sold below cost
and is designed to lure people to the store to shop. The loss leader might be a popular item, yet an

The entry level $99.00 mattress is good in the sense that it is better than sleeping directly on the floor.
The next level mattress might set you back a few more hundred dollars and might seem like the way to
go, until they lead you to the top end model.
Finally, the salesman will show you the Tempurpedic Swedish sleep system. This mattress is the top of
the line and you may not want to move once they get you to lay on it; in the end, you certainly will not
purchase their $99.00 mattress.
Competitive Advantage
The industry that comes to mind when it comes to competitive advantage pricing is gas stations.
Notice that most gas stations do not want to price their fuel much lower than their closest competitors
do. As soon as one station raises its price, it is almost certain that the neighboring stations will follow
suit within a matter of hours. What is really disturbing is that the gas stations will change their prices
on the fuel that is already in the ground.
A local gas station down the street from my house prices their fuel slightly more expensive than the
Union 76 station down the road. I drive by both stations everyday and notice that as soon as the 76
station changes their price, up or down – but usually up, the local station nearer my house will
discover this and change his price to compensate. This pricing strategy indicates that the local fuel
station, as with most other fuel stations use competitive advantage to price their product.

Memento Mori utilizes all three points of view in its narrative and Earl and his plight. While the main
flow of the story is told in a traditional third person narrative we still see many examples of first and
second narratives throughout the story. From the very beginning sentence the reader is introduced to
the story in a second person narrative Your wife always used to say you d be late for your own funeral
As the reader progresses through the story there are many references to this second person narrative
You will forget I guarantee it , and Maybe you can t understand what happened to you . These are a
just few examples of how Jonathon Nolan in the narrative of his story seemed to be creating almost a
parallel characterization of Earl. The separate character was almost one of a condescending hurtful
nature who continually torments Earl s predicament. While the story continues into a more traditional
third person narrative there are still parts in which the narrative falls back into first and second person
narrative. In Memento, Christopher Nolan uses the same type of narration through black and white
and color sequences. The color sequences of the film are that of third person as we see the story
develop through the actions of the additional characters introduced into the film. The black and white
scenses as Lenoard is talking throughout the movie to an unknown person on the end sets us up in

Jungian Theories Essay
Jungian Theories History: Carl Jung was a Swedish psychiatrist and a psychologist. And during his 86
years of life, from1875 to 1961 developed the analytical psychology. He based his theories on the
works of his close friend and mentor Sigmund Freud: the psychoanalytical theories. Early on in his
career Jung followed Freud and supported his theories, but as Jung found aspects of Freud s theories
that he found disagreements with, Jung parted and formulated his own (Anthony). In turn, his theories
would go beyond psychology and affect theology, philosophy, and anthropology , according to George
H. Pollock in World Book Encyclopedia. Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland.

In 1912, Jung published his Psychology of the Unconscious, parting his theories from that of his
colleague s. Jung thought Freud emphasis on sexual instincts on human behavior was a bit much,
therefore, ending his friendship with his companion. During the last 50 years of Jung s life, he made
trips to a variety of different countries. He expanded his knowledge on mythology and history by
doing so and it resulted in the publication of his Psychological Types in 1921 (Encarta). Jung
continued to write on his analytical psychology theories along with the relationship between religious
beliefs and psychological therapy until his death on June 6, 1961 (http://www.eskimo.com/~dcs).
Theories: Jung explains his theories in the psychological sense. He divided his theory into 3 core parts
or psyches. First is the ego. This is the conscious state of every human, the personified traits and
characteristics everyone shows to the world. The second psyche is the personal unconscious (Gannon,
http://usd.edu/~tgannon/Jungbio.html). This division would include memories or recollections of past
events. These images could easily be pictured in the minds of people, but have been stored for some
odd reason. The Jung Society of Seattle (http://eskimo.com/~dcs/) says his third psyche is what
separates his theories from others: his collective unconscious. This is the knowledge that everyone has

Substance Abuse And Its Impact On Criminal Involvement
This paper highlights how substance abuse, the lack of treatment, and how it plays a role in continuous
recidivism. I will focus on substance abuse and its impact on criminal involvement, discuss whom this
problem effects, and elaborate on how this problem is being viewed. In the second half of this paper I
will discuss what interventions are being used to address the substance abuse problem in the criminal
justice system. Interventions will include: the establishment of drug courts, substance abuse treatment
[both in and out of prison], and specialized intensive probation/parole.
It is commonly viewed among key stakeholders in the criminal justice system that drug and alcohol
use share a relationship with some criminal acts and repeat offenses. A study by Beth Huebner shows
that drug and alcohol use is widespread among offenders in Illinois (Huebner). A total of 64 percent of
Huebner s study sample had previous substance abuse history, which is consistent with documented
national research (Huebner). Taking a deeper look into the nation s prison population, it shows that
drug and alcohol use will greatly increase the probability that an individual will enter into serious
criminal doings. According to The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, in 2006 drugs
and/or alcohol were connected with 78 percent of violent crimes; 83 percent of property crimes; and
77 percent of public order, immigration, weapon offenses, and probation/parole violations (National

Similarities Between The Parthenon And Greek Pantheon
Introduction Whether simplistic or complex in style, the Greek Parthenon and the Roman Pantheon,
respectively, exhibit uniqueness of their era. Each showcases wonderful and historic characteristics of
architecture throughout the passage of time. This essay will explain the similarities and differences in
the use and functionality between these two ancient temples. Although the Greek Parthenon is
recognized as a temple, it is not truly known if the Roman Pantheon was a temple, however, it is
deemed as such (Cartwright, 2013). He also states the people of Greece were devoted to the goddess
Athena, even though the original statue has been lost over time. Consequently, if there are any specific
gods and goddesses in reference to the Pantheon, they are not given, or maybe, not known today;
speculation appears to go from one end of the spectrum to the other. The Etymology dictionary (n.d.)
does suggest it is possible, pan meaning all + theios meaning of or for the gods. Each was built using
one of the classical orders of architecture and a well known structure of their time. According to
resources given, both were not the original structures; each one is the third one of its kind to be built
at, or near, the current site. Both are considered a tourist mecca in modern times. The history and heart
of the structures lie in their differences. There are three types of classical orders in Greek architecture,

Ethnographic Analysis Of Apple Airpod
The production of a box is very difficult and complicated. It all depends on what you are shipping and
where you are shipping it to. If you are shipping a big heavy item you will need a big sturdy box if
you are shipping a product far distance you may need something like a crate. It all depends on the size.
Box dimensions are displayed as: Length x Width x Depth that determines how big or small the box
may be.
For example let s say Amazon® ships a smartphone to me I ll have to measure the smartphones length
width and depth and multiply them all together to get the total area of the phone. I ll use the
measurements of the new Iphone X the height is 5.65 inches the width is 2.79 inches and the depth is
0.30 inches. These are the total measurements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s just the phone you have to leave space for the wall charger and AirPods. The measurements of
the Apple Airpods are 1.74 by 0.84 by 2.11 inches. The area of the Apple Airpods are 3 inches
squared. The measurements for the wall charger are 1.62 x 1.3 x 0.81 and the area is 2 inches squared.
Now that we have found the area of all the items in the box we have to add all of the areas of the other
items like wall charger and AirPods plus the phone itself. When these are all added this will determine
what the total area is. When all the areas are added up you ll get 10 inches squared as the area of the
box. No that the area is found we can determine how expensive or inexpensive the boxes might me.
The fact that Apple ships hundred of thousands of Iphone X s a day are crucial because the boxes cost
money too that means that they spend millions of dollars on boxing a year which means they have to
make an affordable safe box that won t break the phone in shipping or have the box get damaged too
quickly. If they make the boxes to expensive it can lead to Apple losing more money than they earn.
One way Apple makes the Iphone ten box an inexpensive box by keeping all of the items tight in. That
means there will be no use for extra foam or other excessive items to keep the phone from breaking or

Public Health
Introduction Public Health Law is a tool for protecting and promoting the health of the public and it is
guided by a set of three principles known as the Core Functions of Public Health, which includes
assessment, policy development, and assurance (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012;
Florida Department of Health, 2012). It plays a critical role in reducing illness and premature death. It
also examines the authority of the government at various jurisdictional levels to improve the health of
the general population within societal limits and norms, in addition to, improving the likelihood that
citizens nationally and globally can lead healthy, long, and productive lives (Public Health Law
Association, 2010; Wikipedia, 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government also makes public health laws based on the constitution of the United States. Because
the US is a democratic nation, the government cannot produce laws without the community electing
officials that will ensure the health of the people (Gostin, 2000; Institute of Medicine, 2003,
NACCHO, 2003).
Population Based Perspective According to Gostin (2000), public health focuses on the health of
populations. Populations are used in public health because it is done collectively to prevent and
promote health. Also, it is not easy to separate individuals in a community. This is largely due to the
methods that are utilized in public health. I agree because statistical methods are used for detecting
disease outbreaks and clusters, the use of survey methods, interpreting time trends and geographic
patterns, exploratory statistical analysis of surveillance data, and web based health reporting systems
for the rapid detection of public health problems. Epidemiologic methods are also used to monitor
health patterns in populations and it has been a long standing focus on public health (Brookmeyer
Shroup, 2003; Gostin, 2000).
The Relationship between the People and the State The government acts on behalf of the community
by strengthening the healthcare systems and developing health sensitive policies and programs to
promote healthy lifestyles (Gostin, 2000; Tarantola, 2000). According to Gostin (2000), public health

##bols And Symbolism In Life Of Pi By Yann Martel
Symbols have been used from the beginning of civilization for communicating basic needs and used
now to provide deep meanings and definitions. Throughout the whole novel, Life of Pi , written by
Yann Martel, there are many symbols that have been proven to be significant throughout the novel. Of
the many, there are three main symbols that add overall meaning to the novel: Richard Parker, Algae
Island, and the color orange. Firstly, a main symbol in the novel is Richard Parker, a four hundred fifty
pound Bengal Tiger. Richard Parker with the main protagonist, Piscine Molitor Patel, also known as
Pi, come together during a shipwreck and endure over two hundred days of hardship on a lifeboat, in
the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Pi is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He barely had anything to help him survive. There was even a point where Pi was fed up with his life
and lost the will to live, which later changes in the novel. Eventually, he finds land called Algae Island
after days on the lifeboat. Religion is a worship or belief of a superhuman controlling power, like God.
Algae Island symbolizes religion. In the beginning, when Pi was on the lifeboat he did not have the
will to survive and wanted to do find land with fresh food and drinks. He was calling all his gods for
help. Before finding Algae Island, he says, It s no use. Today I die. I will die today. (Martel 126). But
as soon as he sees land, he says I saw trees. I did not react. I was certain it was an illusion. ... They
grew to be a forest... a low lying island. I pushed myself up. I continued to disbelieve my eyes ... The
trees were beautiful. (Martel 140). Pi was hoping to find land and finally did. He felt safe at the Algae
Island. People turn to religion for safety and for a normal life, Pi felt safe and normal when he was in
Algae Island. People hope to get guidance and help during their toughest time and for Pi, he comes
across this land in the most time of need. It provided him with everything he needed to survive. It
seemed like a paradise for him after the horror in the lifeboat. This is important because the island was
one of the reasons why he is still alive. He was able to nourish

Jane Addams And Her Fight For Social Reform
Jane Addams and her Fight for Social Reform
For years, Jane Addams has been known as a social activist who created the first settlement home in
the United States. However, many people often disregard the fact that she has accomplished a
significant amount of other things throughout her life that will always make her a significant icon in
history. Were it not for Jane Addams leadership and contribution towards the creation of the first U.S.
Hull House, social changes such as child labor, women s suffrage, and peace may not have occurred in
the United States. Growing up in Cedarville, Illinois where both educated and non educated women
struggled to be seen and heard in the public s eye, encouraged social activist, Jane Addams, to strive to
make great changes in her society. Her many achievements such as graduating as valedictorian, being
the first student to receive a bachelor s degree at the Rockford Female Seminary in 1881, and co
founding the first U.S. Hull House, has helped show that she was very determined to make a change.
After a few years of trying to improve her community, her drive to make it better soon made for
greater social changes throughout the entire country.
As a woman that underwent not being able to obtain a decent job involving any public role besides
school teaching and missionary work, Addams wanted to do something that would make it possible
for women to have more work options. In 1888, after taking a trip to visit the Toynbee Hall in London,

With an ever shrinking base and the increase in their resource need, it is imperative that the nation
focus our attention on conserving our rangelands for the future. This concern has become evident in
recent years, and there is a pressing need to relay public concern for conservation of our natural
resources into the establishment of national policy. The health of our nation is held in our soil and
water resources found on rangelands. Their conservation is the responsibility of both public and
private landowners. We, as a nation, must recognize that there is ultimately a cost for the conservation.
But this cost is minimal in comparison to the damage to our environment if rangelands are not
conserved. Therefore, as a nation, we must be willing to help the land user establish and apply long
term conservation management. There should also be consider of long term, low interest loans for
conservation treatments and tax incentives for conservation practices (Hayenga). The USDA must

overall 486,400 house purchase loans in the period. Buyers have saved 173 million from the holiday
rather than the 600 million the government forecasted. The success is questionable as the incentive
was supposedly directed at lower income areas to the North, the Midlands, Wales and Scotland where
as, the majority of the benefits have gone to the richer areas in the SE. As this area in particular was
hit by the recession the least and where the housing market is the strongest, the governmental loss of

there has been a brief stimulation in the current housing market the number of transactions is still at an

Their Eyes Were Watching God Symbol Analysis
Symbols and Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston uses symbols and
metaphors to enrich the characters in the novel. Through Janie, the main character, the use of the pear
tree, the horizon and the road, and the storm help cultivate her romantic journey. Her dream under the
pear tree helps set the standard and expectation for her three marriages. The horizon represents
unknown things that are to come in her journey. The road symbolizes the bridge between Janie s
reality and her dreams. The storm represents the ever present chaos that is in nature. In addition, the
symbolism is strengthened as it is depicted through Janie s point of view. Janie s dream under the pear
tree symbolizes her desire for love. The earliest memory she recalls during her story to Pheoby was
spending every minute that she could steal from her chores under that tree for the last three days (10).
As she lies there, Hurston uses vivid and direct language to portray Janie s thoughts about sexuality
with phrases such as snowy virginity of the bloom (10). Not only does she observe the characteristics
of the buds, she also finds the action fascinating. She saw a dust bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a

Sometimes there are two novels that have the same theme, and sometimes they have the same plot, but
in the case of the two novels, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and the novel Goodbye
Columbus, by Philip Roth they explore the same dynamics of the chase of the American dream. In
both novels there are similar themes, they both use the idea of sex and money as a form of power.
Both novels can relate to each other because the authors decided to show how the pursuit of the
American dream may not always be a good thing, and how sex and money can cause problems in that
pursuit. Overall in both of the novels the reoccurring theme of sex, money and the search for the

Brenda also represents sex to Neil therefore she represents two of the major themes of the novel, sex

This is all the ideal life for Neil, and when you put Brenda in the mix you have Neil s perfect world. If

Book Of Eli Religion Essay
Religion:
Although hollywood movies are well known for their secular nature, The book of eli is an exception.
The scenes in which Eli defends the Book(the bible) with his life was one of extreme conviction as a
christian and equally thought provoking to non believers. Through several memorable scenes, Eli
begins to show Solara the power of the Bible not as a tool for conquest, but as a handbook for living .
Some Bible verses are quoted throughout the movie, and Christian imagery and symbolism are present
in many scenes.
Eli can be considered as something of a modern day Elijah. His dangerous (and often self sacrificial)
mission, inspired by God and rooted in a deep seated faith while struggling with his own personal
failings, but, for the most part, acts according to the Book he defends so strongly.

One thing that was also very intriguing was the fact whether Eli is really acting in a Christian way by
brutally killing his enemies. But also attempts to warn any would be ambushers ( Don t touch me

him. Whether or not these actions although in self defense are consistent with Christian love is
certainly a matter for debate. And through all the darkness, light still shines(The Word of God).

All Lives Matter, By Nikita Carney Essay
Media bias is displayed repeatedly in news coverage of black tragedies and in the persecution of black

persecution of black bodies. Carney begins by establishing Twitter as a place for marginalized youth

On Dumpster Diving Summary
According to On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, food plays a significant role in everyone s lives.
On Dumpster Diving is a story of a person who is alone and homeless. He has nothing to eat. The only
source of food he got is a dumpster. He picks food from there and makes various suggestions and
statements while picking the food up. In his view while picking the food he give the suggestions to use
commonsense, to know the dumpster of a specific area and check it regularly and to try to answer the
question why that food is thrown? He also mentions various sources of food present in dumpster.
The good source of food for him is the students who mostly use canned food. In his words the students

Summary Of The Poem What A Jerk
What a jerk? That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus,
throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain
himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may
be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of
complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and
hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer
sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as
if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she
s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of
candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a
stone it s nearer the size of a kirk. When he first started out, it just used to irk, but now its incenses me,
and him, the absolute berk. I could do something vicious to him with a dirk. (2 5). When reading this
poem, the first thing you may realize is that this poem is written as a dramatic monologue, which is a
literary technique used to speak to some kind of non present listener, and she puts this story together
in a dramatic and shocking sort of way as if she

Ebola Virus Research Paper
The Ebola Virus, also called hemorrhagic fever, is a highly contagious and often fatal disease. Ebola is
a very rare disease caused through an infection with a strain of Ebola Virus. Ebola is spread through
through direct contact with bodily fluids from a victim who already shows the symptoms. Some
common symptoms are fever, fatigue, weakness, reddened eyes, joint and muscle pain, headache, and
extreme nausea. Symptoms may become prevalent any time between 3 and 21 days. No pathologist
today is altogether sure where the disease originated, However, there is significant evidence revealing
the first outbreak of this disease occurred in 1976, located in Sub Saharan Africa. The evidence in this
outbreak indicates that the source of the disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afghanistan has approximately 31 million citizens, making it the 42nd most populated country.
However, Afghanistan s cities are crowded and with their lack of infrastructure can lead to a rapid
spread of a virulent disease such as Ebola. This is why it is extremely important to not only stop
diseases from beginning, but also to prevent the spread of Ebola. First, it is apparent that the UN must
take a stronger stand to improve medical infrastructure in developing nations as well as states that
have been under immense economic pressures as a result from wars in the past and current
infighting/rebellions. Afghanistan proposes implementing micro consignment loans to move these

Nokia case is a recognized business success and an example of cooperation between a government and

Essay On Epicurus
Epicurus was an ancient Greek philosopher and the founder of the school of philosophy known as
Epicureanism.
In Epicurus philosophy, the purpose of life is to attain happiness through peace and freedom from fear.
Epicurus believed that the universe is eternal, life is the final being; there is nothing call life after
death.
8 Lessons from Epicurus Philosophy
Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was
once among the things you only hoped for. Epicurus
I can relate this with mindfulness living, living in the present moment, without the worries of the
future. It is our tendency to look for the desires that we don t have in our life, but often this tendency
leads us to the door of unhappiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not because that they made a bad judgment or they made a lot of mistakes, but because we lack
peace in ourselves, in our soul. A soul that is complete and living without any worries has fewer
chances to be angry with others, as he knows that anger is not a way to protest, it is just a sign of
weakness.
Let no one be slow to seek wisdom when he is young nor weary in the search of it when he has grown
old. For no age is too early or too late for the health of the soul. Epicurus
One of my favorite Epicurus lessons is the above one, as it suggests us to make a little change in our
lifestyle. It gives us a hint that the source of happiness and completeness of our soul comes from our
thoughts, the way we produce it if you decide to renounce your gossip tendencies and replace it with
higher thoughts if you talk about the philosophy in place of food, assets, and gadgets.
You don t develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday. You develop it by surviving
difficult times and challenging adversity. Epicurus
Difficulties are the lessons that teach us how to face adversities in our life, happiness never able to do
that, as like failures are the Stair to claim success. A man who always lived in luxury will never be
able to praise small happiness, as it would be hard for him to recognize

3. By what logic is filial piety the most important virtue for an emperor to possess?
The Canon of Yao from the Book of Tang is a reference to the sage King Yao. In his search for a
successor Yao s minister spoke of Shun of Yu and how his respectful, filial, approach towards his
parents helped them to a path of harmony and self control. This brought King Yao s attention to Shun.

Krispy Kreme produced doughnuts on a much larger scale by the 1950 s via an automated system. They introduced their Doughnut Theater in the 1980 s, which allowed its customers to watch the production process, giving them a multi sensory experience. They were able to expand to California by 1999 because of their one of a kind atmosphere (Krispy Kreme 2011 Annual Report). They opened their first international store in Canada two years later and experienced rapid growth through 2004. Their success slowed over the next five years because they could not sustain their growth. They closed 240 domestic stores, which cost $300 million. International growth boomed, and 396 new stores opened around the world. In 2011, domestic markets began to look up for the first time since 2005. Krispy Kreme is divided between its domestic and international business and subdivided by its on site and off site sales with 229 domestic stores and 317 international ones (Krispy Kreme 2011 Annual Report). Krispy Kreme plans to remain primarily a doughnut shop since 88 percent of their sales result from its doughnuts. In 2011, Krispy Kreme had total revenues of $362 million, a 4.5 percent increase. Doughnut sales in grocery stores have had a steady one percent annual increase while convenience stores are expanding at a slightly faster pace of two %. Distribution of micromolecules in pretreated bio oil Micromolecules in bio oil, and pretreated bio oil were identified from the GC/MS analysis and classified based on their chemical structure and functional groups. Their relative amounts are presented in Table 4. Total amounts of micromolecules were reduced after the pretreatment, despite the high yield of liquid product. Therefore, it might be due to the dilution with ethanol. Also, the distribution also strikingly changed during this reaction. Almost of acetic acid, and levoglucosan, which are known as decline bio oil stability and properties, were changed into the ester form with ethanol, such as acetic acid ethyl ester, and levulinic acid ethyl ester. The compound like 2,2 diethoxy ethanol was only identified in the pretreated bio oil, so it might be resulted from the reaction of ethanol itself. Since amberlyst 36 also has a capacity to phenol purification, total micromolecular phenols decreased from 38.1 to 13.4 17.2. Generally, almost of phenols reduced during the reaction, alkylated phenols like cresol, 2,4 dimethyl phenol, or 4 ethyl phenol were strikingly decreased. Therefore, it was suggested that phenol ... • 4. The Agents Of The Transportation Security Administration The agents of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have become notorious for their insolence and ludicrous actions during bag checks and screenings. TSA agents have been known to cause many instances of harassment and other inconveniences to the average passenger. A TSA agent once admitted that the first question to ask to anyone in a wheelchair is if he is able to stand for a pat down search. If someone is in a wheelchair, it is likely that he is unable to stand. Even when he is sitting, the TSA agent must ask him to move so that they can check under his bottom ( Confessions of a TSA agent: we re all a bunch of airheads , 2013). The TSA has caused inconveniences to passengers trying to board. Ashley Brant from Washington D.C. was told she may not be able to return home after a TSA agent told her that her District of Columbia ID was not valid because the TSA requires a state ID to board, and apparently, the U.S. district does not count as a state (Davis, 2014). There have been many instances such as those, resulting in the TSA becoming associated with absurd rules and incompetent employees. The TSA, established November 19, 2001, as a direct result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, was designed to fortify the security of the nation s transportation systems. The administration consists of approximately 50,000 officers, inspectors, air marshals, and managers who are supposed to provide adequate security for the nation s modes of transportation and to ... The day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed she planned an exercise that wouldn t just show her students what racism is rather, it would give them first hand experience of what it felt like to be oppressed for something out of their control. Elliott divided her class by the color of their eyes, marked them with armbands and proceeded to treat one group as if superior in capabilities to the other. The superior students performed better than they ever had before, while the inferior students performance dropped. The next day, the third graders traded ranks and their performance reversed in accordance to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elliott has gone on to do the exercise with numerous adults and almost without exception the participants abilities, such as reading and writing, are grossly affected. Jane Elliott s approach is especially relevant today. It demonstrates that even without juridical discrimination; hate speech, lowered expectations, and dismissive behavior can have devastating effects on achievement. Black members of the blue eyed group forcefully remind whites that they undergo similar stresses, not just for a few hours in a controlled experiment, but every day of their lives. Although these concepts are food for thought... they are merely preludes to the main course. The most important lesson to be learned here is that just one person can make a difference. Next we join a group of 40 teachers, police, school administrators and social workers in Kansas City blacks, Hispanics, whites, women and men. Catholic Influence On Guatemala In this chapter the author describes the religious impact specifically Catholic Church on the politics of Guatemala; while Catholic influence was strong in Guatemala, the church had to work to keep out other religious influences such as Protestantism. The primary source is about archbishop Oscar Romero, he taken aback by the death of his friend who died at the hand of the government security forces; in his speech he says while there is a lot of suffering in the country, in the end God has a plan for all of us, he encourages the people to work for reform and freedom; he also pleads to the soldiers to stop killing because the message that comes from God is something they should follow over any order given by a government. The similarities and differences between client centered and psychodynamic therapies are: Client centered therapy: An approach to counseling where the client determines the general direction of therapy, while the therapist seeks to increase the client s insightful self understanding through informal simplified questions. The client is the focal point of the sessions, the therapist takes a back seat to learn about the person, and watch as the client moves toward the achievement of their full potential through creativity. The difference with client centered therapy than psychodynamic therapy is the client directs their own development and moves at their own pace. Despite the many differences there are some main similarities between client centered and psychodynamic therapy in that they are both approaches to counseling helping clients overcome obstacles to personal growth and to bring a better quality of life for the client. Also both are focused on the problems/issues that may or have already hindered the client from successful relationships. They are both based on empathy, acceptance and understanding providing ways of responding to a wide range of human needs and providing opportunities for those seeking help to work towards ways of living in more satisfying and resourceful ways. My article for this week was The Client Counselor Match and the Corrective Emotional Experience: Evidence from Interpersonal and Attachment Research written by Annie Bernier and Mary Dozier from the University of Delaware. The article suggest the client counselor match as a helping condition for a healing emotional experience and revisits the appropriate facts from attachment and interpersonal studies. • 10. The Horror Of The Vietnam War Well Done Since the Vietnam War was fought in Southeast Asia, it is difficult for many Americans to imagine what the people of South Vietnam experienced during the Vietnam War. To better understand, the American people had to rely on eye witness accounts, film clips, and photographs. One photograph in particular captures the horror of the Vietnam War. It is the image of Phan Phuc, a naked, nine year old, South Vietnamese girl, taken on June 8, 1972, by Nick Ut. The photograph shows the horrors of napalm, the emotionless soldiers, and photo journalists, and children suffering. Jets tear through the air over a green jungle in Vietnam. What is a beautiful, peaceful, thriving jungle, with villages and families will soon be a charred ash pit with nothing but the lingering feeling of what once was. As bombs drop and the liquid fire races through the jungle, everything in its path is destroyed. Trees that have stood the test of time, burned over. Resource providing plants turned to ash. People s homes and everything they have, destroyed. They flee, screaming for their lives. Mothers and fathers separated from their families. Children left to die in a burning jungle. While some make it out, most are likely charred to crisp. Left homeless, with nowhere to go. Bodies lie on the scorched jungle floor like burnt pines in a California wildfire. The smell of burnt flesh burns your nostrils. Thick, black smog fills the air and begins to flatten out over the acreage. As if it is chasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The proper knowledge and training will allow the registered nurse to be able to keep the patients safe and help prevent complication from deep vein thrombosis. A DVT is a blood clot that can occur anywhere in the body, but these blood clots tend to occur in the deep veins of the legs and thighs. Previously, nurses were taught to use the Homan s sign to assess for a DVT. After extensive research, it has been found that the Homan s sign is not as effective as previously documented. Therefore, after additional research, the registered nurse can use the Wells model when assessing a patient for a DVT. The Wells model is a numerical scale similar to other scales used within the nursing practice and consists of a scoring system that predicts the likelihood of a DVT. The Wells model assesses for the following criteria: if a patient has active cancer, any paralysis, if the patient has been bedridden for more than 3 days or had a major surgery within the last 4 weeks, Is the patient experiencing any local tenderness, any swelling or pitting edema in the leg or calf, or is there an alternative diagnosis that is more likely than a DVT. These areas are scored with a number 1 if positive and a 0 if negative. A score of 3 or more would indicate a high probability for a DVT. A score of 1 or 2 would indicate a moderate probability, and a score of 0 would indicate a low probability of a DVT. Based off of Aquinas work, Summa Contra Gentiles, one would assume that he did believe in magic, although he did not come outright and say it. Nevertheless, he informed his readers that magicians performed their magic not just through God and heavenly ways, but also through celestial ways. They may not have performed their magic with just God s powers help, yet they would not have been able to perform with only celestial ways either, they came together hand in hand. However, he explained that magic that came from the heavenly bodies was natural magic. Therefore, anything that could not be considered natural could not have come from heaven or God. He also went into greater detail explaining that an inanimate object could not possibly move by itself through the powers of God or heavenly forces. Aquinas did not speak about witches, however, his brief mention of pacts having been a necessity to speak to a demon later brought up the issue of magicians, and even later the issue of witches signing pacts. Throughout this work of his, he spoke only of magicians and their way of performing magic. In order to perform their magic, he explained that they were to speak certain words to receive the outcomes they desired. The words did not hold the power, the magician himself did. To build upon this, very powerful magicians were able to produce what they desired simply through thought. If someone was able to make what they wanted to happen with words ... It is thought that scientists have discovered only 17.5 million species on this world; which seems quite a significant amount but when also considering that it s only thought that 20% of them are estimated to live, it seems like nothing. It has been one cause of tragic, irreversible damage to innocent lives of citizens through the long US history. Despite the evidence that openly carrying firearms in public spaces endangers public safety, most states lack laws to limit open carry and some have even taken steps to weaken regulation regarding the practice. Historically, most states either prohibited or strongly regulated the carrying of firearms in public spaces. Over the past three decades, however, state laws have changed dramatically. In that time, many states have significantly weakened their laws to permit more and more people to carry guns in public places and to reduce or eliminate local law enforcement s ability to keep potentially dangerous people from carrying guns in public. Notice that most gas stations do not want to price their fuel much lower than their closest competitors do. As soon as one station raises its price, it is almost certain that the neighboring stations will follow suit within a matter of hours. What is really disturbing is that the gas stations will change their prices on the fuel that is already in the ground. A local gas station down the street from my house prices their fuel slightly more expensive than the Union 76 station down the road. I drive by both stations everyday and notice that as soon as the 76 station changes their price, up or down – but usually up, the local station nearer my house will discover this and change his price to compensate. I will focus on substance abuse and its impact on criminal involvement, discuss whom this problem effects, and elaborate on how this problem is being viewed. In the second half of this paper I will discuss what interventions are being used to address the substance abuse problem in the criminal justice system. Interventions will include: the establishment of drug courts, substance abuse treatment [both in and out of prison], and specialized intensive probation/parole. Although the Greek Parthenon is recognized as a temple, it is not truly known if the Roman Pantheon was a temple, however, it is deemed as such (Cartwright, 2013). He also states the people of Greece were devoted to the goddess Athena, even though the original statue has been lost over time. Population Based Perspective According to Gostin (2000), public health focuses on the health of populations. Populations are used in public health because it is done collectively to prevent and promote health. Also, it is not easy to separate individuals in a community. This is largely due to the methods that are utilized in public health. I agree because statistical methods are used for detecting disease outbreaks and clusters, the use of survey methods, interpreting time trends and geographic patterns, exploratory statistical analysis of surveillance data, and web based health reporting systems for the rapid detection of public health problems. Epidemiologic methods are also used to monitor health patterns in populations and it has been a long standing focus on public health (Brookmeyer Shroup, 2003; Gostin, 2000). The Relationship between the People and the State The government acts on behalf of the community by strengthening the healthcare systems and developing health sensitive policies and programs to promote healthy lifestyles (Gostin, 2000; Tarantola, 2000). Through Janie, the main character, the use of the pear tree, the horizon and the road, and the storm help cultivate her romantic journey. Her dream under the pear tree helps set the standard and expectation for her three marriages. The horizon represents unknown things that are to come in her journey. The road symbolizes the bridge between Janie s reality and her dreams. The storm represents the ever present chaos that is in nature. In addition, the symbolism is strengthened as it is depicted through Janie s point of view. Janie s dream under the pear tree symbolizes her desire for love. The earliest memory she recalls during her story to Pheoby was spending every minute that she could steal from her chores under that tree for the last three days (10). As she lies there, Hurston uses vivid and direct language to portray Janie s thoughts about sexuality with phrases such as snowy virginity of the bloom (10). In both novels there are similar themes, they both use the idea of sex and money as a form of power. My five articles assessed said media bias, and if that bias whether negative or positive affected the African American community. Nikita Carney s All Lives Matter, but so Does Race: Black Lives Matter and the Evolving Role of Social Media assesses the role of social media as a public sphere, capable of influencing public discourse and the evolution of social media as a platform for discussing racial injustice. Carney uses twitter as her subject and analyzes the opposing discourse surrounding hashtags #BlackLivesMatter and #AllLivesMatter occurring after the non indictments of white police officers in the killings of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. These hashtags represent opposing ideology about police brutality and the persecution of black bodies. Carney begins by establishing Twitter as a place for marginalized youth of color to engage in meaningful discourse about their experiences of racial inequality. That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus, throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a stone it s nearer the size of a kirk.
