Geological Structures Within The Earth
Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when
determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and
normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for
reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which states
that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time with high
pressures and relatively low temperatures (300°F 392°F) with carbon based materials such as algae.
The basis for algae is the fact that the ocean contained around 95% of plankton in the ocean and
reservoirs for hydrocarbons are found in sediments made up of ... Show more content on

Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these
sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s surface
and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with which fluid flows
through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection between the pores.
Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and relative. Absolute is when pore
spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when the permeability of a flowing phase
that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which is the ratio of effective permeability to
absolute permeability of the same rock. When permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow
through the rock is low and therefore not a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir
has a high saturation, a low permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium.
However this is not the only cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays
a part in the production of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface
tension and cannot be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Normal
pressure below the earth has a linear relationship with temperature and depth, i.e. as depth increases
the temperature and pressure increases, however

Five Forces Analysis of the Video Game Industry
Five Forces Analysis of the Video Game Industry
The video game industry is the economic sector involved with the development, marketing and sale of
video and computer games. It includes video game consoles, game software, handheld devices, mobile
games and online games. The video gaming industry has been growing exponentially in recent years
with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo competing for the higher profits in the market. This essay will
analyze each of the five forces acting on the industry: threat of new entrants, threat of substitute
products or services, bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, and the competitive
rivalry among existing firms. Then it will be determined if the video game industry is still an ... Show

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have been competing for a decade with Sony dominating the market
throughout most of the years because of their superior technological products. The video games
industry faces an entirely new rivalry situation. In 2008, Sony lost its strong position on the market,
because of Nintendo s success with their dynamic Wii over Sony s high tech PlayStation 3 and
Windows Xbox 360. Although the Wii was technologically much less advanced than PS3 and Xbox
360, the Wii s cheaper price, ease of use, innovative motion sensitive controller, and simple but fun
games, made the console a hit all demographics from 9 to 65 years old, male and female. All these
factors resulted in Nintendo s Wii dominating sales and surpassing Sony s by an impressive ratio of
2:1. With the competition in the video games industry getting more intense, the next steps of the video
game companies become more crucial for their positioning on the market. Due to the low product
differentiation, the next market leader will be the platform provider that manages to offer an
innovative gaming experience and a wider population of buyers that include all demographics.
Although the industry is being totally dominated by Nintendo s console, the industry is still considered

102 Minutes that Change America
102 Minutes that Change America
A moment may change everything to evil or good in our life and community.
Some events occurred may have affects in several ways. September 11, 2001 was a historic day in the
United States. Four airplanes were hijacked by terrorists. The first one crashed into the Pentagon in
Washington, D.C. The second plane was stopped by passengers. The two of them crashed the biggest
towers in the U.S which are the World Trade Center in New York. On that day 3,000 people died.
These occasions changed American s economy, American culture and the relationship with other
countries.
First, the economy in the United State was affected after 9/11 especially New York and Virginia. The
stock markets and financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when I came to New York 5 years ago the securities were very strict with Arabic
travelers. They were using dogs and hand searches to inspect travelers. Also, I sat for almost 6 hours
to pass the immigration line. They were asking me questions about the reasons for why I came to the
United States. However, I did not speak English, so, I asked them if they had a translator or my
husband may help me to answer questions but they did not accept that.
Third, after the September 11 attack, the relationship has undergone some profound changes between
America and other countries especially with Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Political people
in Saudi Arabia did not accept what happened in the United States and other countries have been
exposed to violence. In addition, people a treatment became very rude with Muslims because they
thought Muslims are agree with American s situation. For example, my uncle came with his family in
2003; they faced a lot of problems with American people. Also, while his wife was wearing Islamic
dress, she got a lot of harassments from citizens. So, they could not stay more than one week then they
decided to travel to Canada to complete their vacation. In my experience, sometimes old people called
terrorist because I wearing Islamic costume. However, after 911 Muslim people did many important
things for American people. Also, Muslim people

Heirloom Swot Analysis Essay
An Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in Opening an Heirloom Seed
Supply Online Americans are showing a greater interest in living healthier lifestyles; eating cleaner
has become a growing part of our culture. As this culture grows, so too does the need for businesses
that supply ingredients to support the trend (Essen Englander, 2013). In recent studies, it has been
found that genetically modified foods are not as preferred as the more natural versions from before
mankind endeavored to make structural changes to raw products (Bawa Anilakumar, 2012). One of the
most difficult aspects of changing one s lifestyle to eliminate GMOs is finding said foods in a natural
state. This speaks to a need for supplying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Threats:

After evaluating this analysis, it will be easier to determine if the negative aspects of starting such a
venture significantly outweigh any positives. Possibly the easiest of the four quadrants of the SWOT
Analysis to determine are the strengths.
Strengths
The strengths of running an heirloom seed business from home: easy inventory storage; no employee
issues or costs; no need to wear a uniform or leave the house; and no true schedule. Unlike many
businesses that sell physical products, whether it s internet sales or in store, seeds take up very little
space. One could easily sell many varieties with nothing more than a garage to store the inventory! A
preferred method would be to have a separate room, climate controlled, with shelves to hold bins of
inventory. Unlike selling t shirts or gadgets, seeds could have months of inventory on hand in one
converted guest bedroom. Operating in this fashion would negate the need to hire employees.
Having a traditional business in a store often requires hiring people to assist in the running of it. With
no employees, there is no need for a human relations department, overtime pay, extra insurance costs,
or salaries. Based on statistics from the Bureau of Labor published in September of 2017, one part
time service employee averages a cost per hour of

Raphael Semmes
Confederate rear admiral Raphael Semmes left an everlasting endowment as captain of the CSS
Alabama. Raphael Semmes faced many challenges as a boy and a man. Through all of his challenges
he remained calm and collective and pushed through. Although his life was threatened many times
during his time serving in the military from either being shot at or being drowned to death after
sinking a ship, he always fought no matter what the circumstances were.
Raphael Semmes was born in Charles County, Maryland on September 27, 1809. At the age of
fourteen he and his three siblings lost their mother, Catherine Semmes and father, Richard Semmes.
After his parents died he was raised by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ship was hit, causing it to sink. 39 members of the crew lost their lives, Semmes hardly escaped
with his. The court found no wrong with the way he handled the ship but in fact praised him for it then
sent him back to duty. After the war Semmes moved to Mobile Alabama where he practiced law and
wrote Service Afloat and Ashore During the Mexican War, a book about his war experiences. In 1855
he was promoted to the Commander of the U.S. Navy. When Alabama seceded from the Union,
Semmes was sent north by President Jefferson Davis on a secret mission to get military supplies for
the Confederacy from the munitions brokers there. (Encyclopedia of Alabama) After Semmes sunk his
ship he was upset that almost all his men died except him this is a challenge that Semmes pushed
through and got back on his feet and resumed his duty back in the navy after he went to court and they
proved it wasn t his fault.
In 1861 Semmes resigned his commission in the U.S. Navy to work for the Confederate government
in Montgomery. The confederate Navy sent him north to buy ships and military supplies and to find
skilled mechanics to bring back. Semmes was then given command of the ship Habana which was a
steamship turned into a military destroyer ship (renamed C.S.S. Sumter). He ran the Sumter through
the Federal blockade on the Mississippi river, out sailing the U.S.S. Brooklyn. In late November the
Sumter set sail for European waters. They arrived in the

The Price Rate Is The Best Predictor Of The Future...
The random walk model suggests that the current exchange rate is the best predictor of the future
exchange rate. In other words, the current exchange rate reflects the future exchange rate. However,
this model is questioned, past history of the exchange rate can t predict the future of the exchange rate

Stereotypes In Twelfth Night
William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is a comedy about Viola, a woman who washes up in Illyria and
then assumes the role of a man in order to be closer to Orsino, the man she wants to marry. It involves
multiple cases of mistaken identities and deception. The stereotypical role of the sexes and gender also
have a significant impact in the play. Ultimately it provides the opportunity to disrupt the fixed
polarities upon which the normative Elizabethan society is based. This essay will discuss Belsey s
statement that the closing of the play voids the transgressive gaps in sexual stereotypes. This will be
done by considering the historical context and the sexual norms of the time and to what extent they are
transgressed in Twelfth Night.
Historically the play is set during a time when homosexuality was governed under the ... Show more

Charles is of opinion that, the representation of homoerotic attraction in Twelfth Night functions rather
as a means of dramatizing the socially constructed basis of a sexuality that is determined by gender
identity (Charles 1997:122). As mentioned above, homosexuality was not acceptable in the
Elizabethan society for the most part. It was even considered as sodomy. Before the twins, Viola and
Sebastian, are married to heterosexual partners, both are involved in some form of homosexual
relationship. While Oliva seems to be unaware of Cesario/Viola s true sex, the hint at the possibility of
homoeroticism through dramatic irony is already enough to disrupt the stereotypical gender system.
After Malvolio presents Viola/Cesario with Olivia s ring, Cesarios says, I am the man; if it be so, as
tis,/Poor lady, she were better love a dream (Shakespeare 2004:84). Charles explains the best stating
that dramatic irony tells us Oliva s true hidden passion is for the female character (Charles 1997:133).

The Sniper-Personal Narrative
The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay developed in darkness, but for the dim light of the
moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets
and the dark waters of the Liffey. Around the beleaguered Four Courts the heavy guns roared. Here
and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, spasmodically, like
dogs barking on lone farms. Republicans and Free Staters were waging civil war. On one evening, a
man drove up in an armoured car, and had experienced something that had happened before, but not in
a long time. He was used to gunshots at night, but hadn t usually been there to witness a death. This
man was tall, and thin. He had eyes as blue as the sky. He had a wife, and three kids, and his life had
been as good as it can be. His life was always interesting, when he knew the sniper had been out.

second pop or gunshot which was the woman s head hitting the sidewalk. It was the worst noise he

death really took its toll on him. But he knew the sniper was still alive, out there, watching him. The

Human Cloning Should Not Be Sanctioned Under Any Circumstances.
Albeit not everybody would concur, I optate to argue that Human Cloning is erroneous! The noetic
conception of someone playing god and engendering life from human DNA outrages me. No Matter
how many times scientists fail to engender a plenarily engendered human copy they still don t give up
to pursue this desired goal. The first human embryos were unsuccessful as the embryos cellular
division ceased after only 6 cells had divided making the experiment a failure for the scientists. I feel

The scientist that availed engender Dolly argued that she had astringent arthritis, which caused her
death. But after many investigations and a post mortem examination it was revealed that Dolly
suffered from Internal Lung Cancer, which was prevalent in many sheep breeds. Dolly s breed, the Fin
Dorset sheep, has a life expectancy of eleven to twelve years, so many notionally theorize that she
additionally died of a genetically age life expectancy of six years which designates that Dolly s was
only designated to live till she was six. So to bring my point forward, what would transpire if humans
were cloned? The most immensely colossal worry that many people have in today s society is that if
scientists are able to clone humans, the cloned human could have many quandaries and suffer a short
life, but even more people argue that it would have an effect on the man and women offering their
cells to be cloned.
One of the stranger reasons that I optate to bring forward is the conception of body supersessions
which in my opinion is outlandish and plenarily nonessential. In recent years there have been many
cases of scientists endeavoring to grow a body for someone who has recently been deceased, denoting
the transplantation of the encephalon from the deceased body into the cloned body. It is now thought
of only as science fiction, yet it may someday be a possibility in the distant future. While it will

How Did King Henry Viii Change His Life
King Henry the VIII was born in 1491 to Henry Tudor VII and Elizabeth of York, making him their
third child, but second son. He was named after his father, Henry VII, and since he was the second
son, he was not expected to be King. King Henry VII eldest son Arthur, Prince of Wales was to take
the thrown and become King of England, that is until his death unexpected death. When little Henry
was ten years old, he attended Arthur and his bride Catherine of Argon s wedding. Four months after
the marriage began, it ended, with Arthur s death. There was a signed treaty that stated Catherine
would be allow to marry the next heir to the throne Prince Henry. It was considered necessary for a
papal exemption to be issued permitting Henry to wed Catherine because she was his dead brother s
wife, and this marriage was restricted in Leviticus. At the time, and for the duration of her life,
Catherine denied that her marriage to Arthur had even been fulfilled, so no agreement was required. In
any case, both the gatherings in Spain and England needed to make certain of the authenticity of the
marriage, so consent from the pope was looked for and got. The marriage did not take place however.
Henry became King Henry the VIII of England when Henry VII passed on April 22, 1509, which
changed his life forever. Henry was barely eighteen years of age when got to the thrown. He has been

Macbeth destroys his own life with his very own hands. Ambition turns Macbeth into traitorous,
deceitful, mean, evil character with no conscience. He loses all his honourable qualities like being a
brave soldier, loyal, superstitious, caring, kind. He loses his Christian beliefs when he can t even say
amen . His bad side takes over completely as he solely sticks by fair is foul and foul is fair and cannot

be dead and was put in a tomb. However, Romeo does not know about the plan, visits her grave,
thinks she is dead, and kills himself. When Juliet finally wakes up, she discovers that Romeo is dead
and then kills herself.
Romeo is a passionate intelligent young man, liked and admired throughout Verona. He is loyal to his
friends, but his behavior is somewhat unpredictable. At the beginning of the play, he mopes over his
hopeless unrequited love for Rosaline. In Juliet, Romeo finds a legitimate object for the extraordinary
passion that he is capable of feeling, and his unyielding love for her takes control of him. Juliet, on the
other hand, is an innocent girl, a child at the beginning of the play, and is startled by the sudden power
of her love for Romeo. Guided by her feelings for him, she develops very quickly into a determined,
capable, mature, and loyal woman who

How Did Hannibal Dominate The Roman Army
Hannibal Barca was a man bred for war. His ability to command a battlefield was unmatched during
his day. During the Second Punic War, Hannibal led the Carthaginian army against the Roman
Republic. He would march through Italy destroying the Roman legions battle after battle. His victories
at Trebia and Trasimene were just preludes to the massacre that he would conduct in Southern Italy, at
the Battle of Cannae. Rome had the best military of its time. They troops were drafted each year and
any land owning citizen could be picked. Every man was trained in the art of war, to be ruthless and
efficient on the battlefield. They were trained with pilum and gladus to kill their enemies. They fought
in what is known has a Maniple Legion. Maniples were the small formations that made up the bigger
battle lines. These smaller organizations trained together and became a coherent part of the Roman
lines. The Roman camps were laid out so that the Maniples camped in the same order that they line for
battle. And this powerhouse of a military had to main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hannibal s Balearic slingers with light spearmen advanced and enticed the Romans with volleys of
stones. The Romans quickly advanced and closed with the enemy. While the Romans advanced they
first met the Carthaginian center led by Hannibal. The Gauls and Spanish put up a fight then started
backing away. This lured the Romans to focus directly on the center. While the Carthaginian center
was collapsing, their cavalry was gaining ground. Hasdrubal, Hannibal s brother, was leading the
cavalry on the Carthaginian left. He led his force to obliterate the Roman cavalry on the Roman right
wing by the river. This freed him up to sweep behind the cavalry on the Roman left and help the
Numidian cavalry to dispatch the remaining Roman cavalry. In one fell swoop, Hasdrubal had
knocked out all of the Roman cavalry. The Roman army no longer had protection on their

Invasive Pneumococcal Disease ( Ipd )
Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is defined as the recovery of an isolate of S. pneumoniae from a
normally sterile site, such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pleural fluid, joint aspirate, pericardial
fluid, or peritoneal fluid [1]. Splenic abscesses are rare in the pediatric population [2]. Early
recognition and intervention are critical due to the high mortality rate associated with delayed
diagnosis [3]. A literature review revealed no case reports of splenic abscesses due to invasive
pneumococcal disease (IPD). Purpura fulminans is a rare complication of IPD. We report a case of
IPD confirmed by blood culture and serotyping in a 15 month old African American female whose

Black Wall Street Research Paper
Black Wall Street was one of the most prominent displays of African American economical
accomplishment and standing of the modern world in spite of the fact that American culture as a

hostility isn t new, but it is dangerous because it accommodates the behavior that is responsible for
systematic discrimination and is the reason why were are permanently relegated to second class and

I know that society today conditions young minorities, not just African Americans, into believing that
their life can and will only be a certain way, which they have no control over. If anything, I find that to
be the most destructive tool of oppression and ultimately the reason that there are not more young
Black entrepreneurs, but I maintain that it can be helped. There are a lot of young Black people who
see the fact that there even has to be a Black Wall Street in the first place, as demeaning and
conveying separatism. I would rather that young students especially, are able to see that it can also be
interpreted as: I will not maintain that my color created my reality, but I can still create a reality that

BMIS Positive Ratings
Out of our tests, the only aspect that was statistically significant was the BMIS positive ratings. For
this, the research highlighted that the participants in the teeth condition had higher positive emotion
ratings than the lips condition. The r2 on this was 0.13 demonstrating that this had a medium effect. In
contrast the other aspects were not statistically significant. Out of these, they all had r2 values that
indicated small effects. Important to note, however, is the fact that the cartoon funniness rating and the
overall mood ratings were rounded to two decimal places. This brought both of these to 0.01, thus
causing their classification as a small effect. In contrast, even though the r2 value for the BMIS
negative was low (0.03) it was still enough to constitute the classification as a small effect. For this
specific aspect, the results were in the right direction, but as mentioned were not statistically

the cartoons as less amusing than the lips condition. These results highlight that the conditions

provide a potential reason for the lack of statistically significant results for our subjects ratings of the
funniness of the cartoons. Furthermore, this would also provide a potential reason that our

Police And Criminal Evidence Act
create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that police
have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have turned into
the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police and Criminal
Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJPOA) 1994. I
will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these models both have
different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should be protected rather
than the victim. The Human Rights Act 1998 will then be used to show that it can be used to help
terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on the statement and
explain how the research I have found backs it up.
In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects in
conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home Secretary to
appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped introduce the Police
and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets out the powers that
police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when they are detained and
questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984).
Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a

The decision on the Mandate did not take into account the wishes of the people of Palestine, despite
the Covenant s requirements that the wishes of these communities must be a principal consideration in
the selection of the Mandatory . This assumed special significance because, almost five years before
receiving the mandate from the League of Nations, the British Government had given commitments to
the Zionist Organization regarding the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine, for which
Zionist leaders had pressed a claim of historical connection since their ancestors had lived in Palestine
two thousand years earlier before dispersing in the Diaspora . During the period of the Mandate, the
Zionist Organization worked to secure the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. The
indigenous people of Palestine, whose forefathers had inhabited the land for virtually the two
preceding millennia, felt this design to be a violation of their natural and inalienable rights. They also
viewed it as an infringement of assurances of independence given by the Allied Powers to Arab
leaders in return for their support during the war. The result was mounting

can be just as important and masterful as European/Western and that The Tale of Genji shows that by
being amazingly written. I see that in this quote: If nothing else, the publication of this new translation
informs (or reminds) readers that there is a Japanese novel out there as complex and masterful as any

Essay about Emily Dickinson s Use of Humor and Irony
Emily Dickinson s Use of Humor and Irony
While much of Emily Dickinson s poetry has been described as sad or morose, the poetess did use
humor and irony in many of her poems. This essay will address the humor and/ or irony found in five
of Dickinson s poems: Faith is a Fine Invention, I m Nobody! Who are you?, Some keep the Sabbath
Going to Church and Success Is Counted Sweetest. The attempt will be made to show how Dickinson
used humor and / or irony for the dual purposes of comic relief and to stress an idea or conclusion
about her life and environment expressed by the poetess in the respective poem. The most humorous
or ironic are some of the shorter poems, such as the four lined stanzas of Faith is a Fine Invention and

This poem may be partially auto biographical in nature. Dickinson made few attempts during her life
to be taken as more than an armature poetess. On one occasion, she sent a collection of her poems to a
correspondent who was also a published poet. His criticism of the poems devastated Dickinson, and
she never made another attempt towards publishing her works.
In Success..., Dickinson reflects on the nature of success and how, ironically, it can be best appreciated
and understood by those who have not achieved it and have no taste of it. As in Faith ..., Dickinson
powerfully presents her thoughts in a few lines. The poem deals only with one, ironic but universal,
idea in its short length. It is the bitterness expressed at this irony (as found it Dickinson s juxtaposition
of the words sweetest and sorest, separated by two lines) that is most felt by the reader. While the
previous poem expresses the poetess bitterness and sorrow with one aspect of her life, I m Nobody!
Who Are You? uses humor without irony to address another. In this poem, Dickinson style appears
almost child like in its of descriptions including frogs and bogs, as well as the lively energy expressed
by the poem through its use of dashes and brief wording. Dickinson seems to be addressing her
spinster, hermit like existence (I m Nobody) and her preference to it.
The poetess seems to relate that her situation has not left

England Was Never Well Governed in the Reign of Edward...
England was never well governed in the reign of Edward 6th
How far do you agree with this?
Edward VI inherited the throne in 1547 at the infant age of 9. Because of his youth, he had two
advisors. The first was his uncle, the Duke of Somerset, who became Lord Protector, and for the first
two and a half years of Edward s reign, Somerset advised and guided the young king. Somerset was
replaced by the Duke of Northumberland. Edward was a mere figurehead, the Lord Protector
controlled the majority of his government but how well was England governed during the reign of

Themes Of Big Black Good Man
In the short story Big Black Good Man by Richard Wright there are few different themes that take
place in the story. This story is about an old man, named Olaf Jenson, that was a night porter in a
cheap hotel on the waterfront in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. On one night, Olaf talked to
himself about how there were only three rooms left, and he was going to take a nap because it was
midnight. Before Olaf could take a nap, a big black man came into his hotel looking for a room and a
whore. Within this story, there are three themes that are important, and the themes are judgment, fear,
and suspense.
The first theme in the short story Big Black Good Man is judgment. Since the very first time Olaf, the
hotel clerk, lays eyes on Jim, the biggest, strangest, and the blackest man he d ever seen, he lays
judgment upon him because of how dark and large he was. For a majority of the short story, Olaf
refers to Jim as the black giant. Olaf judged Jim because of his size, how loud he was, and how black
he was, and Olaf assumed he was going to be too violent. Olaf was determined to deny the big black
man a room because of the man s color and size.
The second theme in this short story is fear. Olaf became frightened of Jim the closer he got and the
more he spoke. Jim was about six and a half feet tall, and his voice was very deep. Every time Jim
spoke, he probably shook the entire hotel. These features of Jim frightened Olaf. Olaf wanted to deny
Jim a room to stay, but Jim

Neurodevelopmental and Neurocognitive Disorders Jackeline Rodriguez Psy/410 September 10th,
2014 Caroline Simpson Neurodevelopmental and Neurocognitive Disorders The neurodevelopmental
disorders are a group of severely disabling conditions that are among the most difficult to understand
and treat. They make up about 3.2 percent of cases seen In inpatient settings (Sverd et al., 1995). They
are considered to be the result of some structural differences in the brain that are usually evident at
birth or become apparent as the child begins to develop (Siegel, 1996) (Butcher, Mineka Hooley,

Some of the side effects of the newer medications are: skin rashes, blurred vision, drowsiness,
sensitivity to the sun, weight gain or loss, and issues menstrual cycles. If any of the side effects are
bothersome or are causing other major problems the person would have to try other medications and
use the one that they have the least side effects. The DSM 5 now lists Dementia as a Neurocognitive

Alzheimer s, Huntington s, and Parkinson s disorder. Alzheimer s disease is a progressive and fatal
neurodegenerative disorder. It takes its name from Alois Alzheimer (1864 1915), the German
neuropathologist who first described it in 1907. It is the most common cause of dementia (Jalbert et

A History Of Punk Research Paper
As is the Case with its metaphorical brother, heavy metal, punk is a genre of music that is thoroughly
entwined with philosophies. From Johnnies Ramone to Rotten, Spanning across oceans and
throughout various different nations, many disgruntled youth and those tired with an unfair system
have flocked to the then burgeoning culture, allowing for it to grow exponentially into something far
greater. Thus, due to it establishing a firmly anti establishment view, creating an entirely new culture
for an entire generation, and changing the face of music, punk has become one of, if not the most,
prolific genres of music of all time.
Punk has its origins as a form of underground of rock here in the states, while the term punk arose as

( Why A History Of Punk Rock Matters , 1) The ideologies and philosophies are, though quite similar,
are various. For instance, we have the aforementioned established anti establishment sentiment. (
Unpopular Culture , 1) Punk rock is also deeply rooted in nihilism and hedonism, both of which
pertain to the pursuit of self pleasure, though there is often a very communal sense to the culture. As
well, there was a very egalitarian basis for punk, the CBGB being an equal opportunity and very
liberal nightclub, allowing all comers to drink, and all bands to play, no matter who. ( Why A HIstory
Of Punk Rock Matters , 1)
Sadly, for a while in the punk history, punk was a tad homophobic and sexist, though this wasn t
extremely common, and is certainly being stopped by the community. But even the prejudice within
the culture could have helped fuel the creative abilities and frustrations of those prosecuted, giving
them new material to provide raw, angry punk rock, though discrimination is never good. The songs of
punk rock remain to never have a set subject matter, as the topics can range from sexual frustrations,
to race and gender issues, and even problems with our preordained status quo. ( Unpopular Culture ,

The Impeachment of Andrew Johnson Essay
The Impeachment of Andrew Johnson
Impeachment, in the United States and Great Britain proceeding by a legislature for the
removal of office of a public official charged with misconduct in office. Impeachment
compromises both the act of formulating the accusation and the resulting trial of charges; it is
frequently but mistakenly taken to mean removal from office of an accused official. An
impeachment trial may result in an acquittal or in a verdict of guilty. The U.S. Constitution, in
Article 1, Section 3 , provides for the impeachment of public federal officials and gives precise
directions for conducting impeachment. The House of Representatives initiates impeachment

successfully for alderman on a platform that appealed to Greenville s working class. In 1834 he
was elected mayor of Greenville. Johnson then served in the Tennessee House of Rep.
from 1835 to 1837 and from 1839 to 1843, when he was elected to the state senate. In 1843,
Johnson became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, the lower chamber of congress
where he served until 1853. In Congress he was a champion of the poor . He felt a kinship with
the working people and small farmers, and disliked people of wealth or privilege.
In June 1864 the Republicans met in Baltimore, Maryland, and renominated Lincoln. To
reward the Southerners who had remained loyal to the Union, Johnson was nominated to be vice
president, since Johnson was a War Democrat. In November the Lincoln Johnson was elected.
Lincoln was assasinated only six weeks after Johnson was sworn in as vice president. Angry
at the assassination Johnson was at first inclined to be vindictive in his treatment of the
Confederate leaders, who also represented the privileged class that he hated. His attitude
towards the Confederacy won him the approval of the militant wing of the Republican Party
(Radical Republicans). However , to the surprise of the Radicals, Johnson

Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote s Last Christmas With Sook
A Christmas Memory , an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear
friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930s in a rural southern section of Alabama. Capote recalls
his last Christmas with Sook, who is his sixty something (3) year old cousin who has childlike
tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with
other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind.
However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable
friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with
Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language.
One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make the reader feel
joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware;
we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably this passage is composed by giving the
reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsivity of loud singing. Capote s whimsical
language takes a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23) to illustrate the
feeling of Buddy and Sook s giddiness. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of
dawn splash us like cold water... (36). As a result, his passage allows the reader to feel suddenly
overwhelmed. Capote wants to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the
excitement of not wanting to make waste of any time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel
cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household.
Capote s use of language equally portrays a sense of misery and somberness. For example, during the
whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that
scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. Notably, in the same passage, the relatives say,
shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord! (24). Above all, these three things are of the
utmost importance to Sook. Her religion, her friendship with Buddy, and her mental

How Does The Sea Change In The Tempest
Sufferance results in sea change. Sea change is literally a transformation brought by the sea, but in
Shakespeare s The Tempest, sea change is a transformation that ensues suffering, often for the better.
Sea change is depicted in Ariel s song to Ferdinand, Alonso sympathy for Prospero, and Prospero s
authoritative personality. Ariel s song directly states that characters doth suffer a sea change (I.ii.401)
which means the characters must experience something traumatic to undergo sea change and
transform into a better person. Shakespeare uses sea change to develop the characters physical and
emotional transformations throughout the play. Full Fathom Five Thy Father Lies is Ariel s evocative
song to Ferdinand who is devastated from belief that his father has drowned. The Prince of Naples is
awed by the mysterious music he hears on the island and is naturally drawn ... Show more content on

In some situations his justice seems morally fair and unbiased, but in other situations his decisions
seem rather one sided. He tends to take advantage of those around them and manipulate them to obey
his desires. He enslaves Caliban and Ariel for his subjective desires, uses Ferdinand and Miranda s
marriage to gain power, and constantly controls characters to avenge the injustices and suffering he
faced when he was usurped and overthrown. In order to avenge those who made him suffer, Prospero
uses characters for his ulterior motives. Prospero s method of dealing out punishments and treating his
servants with contempt is clear evidence that he is overpowering. Prospero experiences sea change at
the end of the play when he states that my charms are all o erthrown, And what strength I have mine s
own, Which is most faint (V.i.1 3). Prospero realizes that his powers are weak and that it is time to
pass his dukedom to Ferdinand and Miranda. He goes through sea change when he forgives his
enemies, releases Ariel, and relinquishes his magic

Analysis of the Movie Inglorious Basterds by Quentin Taratino
As time goes on, history has a way of getting distorted from its most truthful form. Time causes
people to drift away from accuracy and become more interested in what they want to remember.
Hollywood has a reputation of creating films that cater more to the average viewer, rather than the
history buff. Inglorious Basterds, by Quentin Taratino, take very liberal liberty with a history story,
and creates a story that will sell to the crowd. This may seem dubious, but it is often not such a bad
thing. Hollywood can take a story that may have one connotation, may it be serious or dreary, and turn
it into something that evokes different emotions, will still addressing historical issues or topics.
Taratino chooses to film a movie of this type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Taratino skips accuracy to please the crowd, he does give the audience a more realistic
approach to the enemy. Throughout the movie, there is large sense of American pride, but at the same
time, there is a portrayal of the Nazi that many Americans have never seen before. Inglorious Basterds
starts with a scene in occupied France, with a local dairy farmer being questioned by Hans Landa, an
SD officer in charge of rounding up the remaining Jews in France. This position has earned him the
name of the Jew Hunter . Landa seems to be very much enthralled by his job, and personally likes his
nickname. Landa, without seemingly any evidence, correctly assumes there are Jews hiding in the
house. This is the first Nazi introduced in the film, and it is quickly determined what he portrays. He is
the Nazi that is cunning, yet sadistic. He enjoys rounding up the Jews, and does it with charm and wit.
Landa is the Nazi that you would love, if only he was not a Nazi. Landa goes on in the film to be one
of the main characters, and the one that is constantly fighting with the Basterds. Unlike essentially any
other Nazi in the movie, he is the only one that really counters their resistance. So many films have
portrayed the Nazi as dimwitted compared to the Americans, but Inglorious Basterds gives the Nazis a
fighting chance, even making it seem as they are going to win. While the Basterds are killing

Does Research Design Affect Study Outcomes in Criminal...
Part 1 Weisburd, D., Lum, C., Petrosino, A. (2001). Does Research Design Affect Study Outcomes in
Criminal Justice? The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. 578 (1): 50
70.
Within social science, as well as pure research, there seems to be a continual and ongoing debate
about qualitative and quantitative research. Some take the view that, All research ultimately has a
qualitative grounding, while others believe There s no such thing as qualitative data. Everything is
either 1 or 0 (Howe, 1988). In actuality, the debate should not be so black and white; both styles of
research have their advantages and disadvantages. At times though, the way one constructs
hypothetical constraints may actually prejudice the intended results or at least provide a framework
from which to form bias. In the hard sciences, scholars tend to agree that randomized experimental
studies have much higher internal validity than nonrandomized studies. This is basic to the overall
scientific method of investigation.
The term scientific method refers to a way of investigation or the acquisition of knowledge through
the testing of a theory or hypothesis, then working through measurements (observation and empirical
notes) to come up with a result, which should prove or disprove the original theory. Thus, the basic
method consists of a) formulating a question or hypothesis, b) designing an experiment or means of
collecting data, c) observation or experimentation, d) analyzing

  • 2. Geological Structures Within The Earth Geology Geological structures within the earth can determine a multitude of variables when determining such things as formations, permeability, porosity, lithology, mineralogy, saturation and normal/abnormal/subnormal pressure which in turn can provide the necessary information for reservoir pay zones. The foundation for hydrocarbons is based off of the organic theory which states that the hydrocarbons formed through an anaerobic environment (lacking oxygen) over time with high pressures and relatively low temperatures (300°F 392°F) with carbon based materials such as algae. The basis for algae is the fact that the ocean contained around 95% of plankton in the ocean and reservoirs for hydrocarbons are found in sediments made up of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Petroleum engineers deal only with sedimentary basin rocks in oil and gas drilling, and these sedimentary rocks are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth s surface and within bodies of water. Permeability in these rock is a measure of the ease with which fluid flows through a porous rock, and is a function of the degree of interconnection between the pores. Permeability can be separated into three parts: absolute, effective, and relative. Absolute is when pore spaces are 100% saturated with the same fluid, effective is when the permeability of a flowing phase that does not saturate 100% of the rock, and relative which is the ratio of effective permeability to absolute permeability of the same rock. When permeability is low the degree at which fluids can flow through the rock is low and therefore not a good means of producing hydrocarbons. Even if a reservoir has a high saturation, a low permeable rock will have no means of obtaining the porous medium. However this is not the only cause with saturations of rock. The irreducible water saturation also plays a part in the production of hydrocarbons. This is when water is held against the rock grains by surface tension and cannot be produced which is determined by grain structure, i.e. size and mixture. Normal pressure below the earth has a linear relationship with temperature and depth, i.e. as depth increases the temperature and pressure increases, however ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Five Forces Analysis of the Video Game Industry Five Forces Analysis of the Video Game Industry The video game industry is the economic sector involved with the development, marketing and sale of video and computer games. It includes video game consoles, game software, handheld devices, mobile games and online games. The video gaming industry has been growing exponentially in recent years with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo competing for the higher profits in the market. This essay will analyze each of the five forces acting on the industry: threat of new entrants, threat of substitute products or services, bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, and the competitive rivalry among existing firms. Then it will be determined if the video game industry is still an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have been competing for a decade with Sony dominating the market throughout most of the years because of their superior technological products. The video games industry faces an entirely new rivalry situation. In 2008, Sony lost its strong position on the market, because of Nintendo s success with their dynamic Wii over Sony s high tech PlayStation 3 and Windows Xbox 360. Although the Wii was technologically much less advanced than PS3 and Xbox 360, the Wii s cheaper price, ease of use, innovative motion sensitive controller, and simple but fun games, made the console a hit all demographics from 9 to 65 years old, male and female. All these factors resulted in Nintendo s Wii dominating sales and surpassing Sony s by an impressive ratio of 2:1. With the competition in the video games industry getting more intense, the next steps of the video game companies become more crucial for their positioning on the market. Due to the low product differentiation, the next market leader will be the platform provider that manages to offer an innovative gaming experience and a wider population of buyers that include all demographics. Although the industry is being totally dominated by Nintendo s console, the industry is still considered to show a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

September 11, 2001 was a historic day in the United States. Four airplanes were hijacked by terrorists. The first one crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The second plane was stopped by passengers. The two of them crashed the biggest towers in the U.S which are the World Trade Center in New York. On that day 3,000 people died. These occasions changed American s economy, American culture and the relationship with other countries. First, the economy in the United State was affected after 9/11 especially New York and Virginia. The stock markets and financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when I came to New York 5 years ago the securities were very strict with Arabic travelers. They were using dogs and hand searches to inspect travelers. Also, I sat for almost 6 hours to pass the immigration line. They were asking me questions about the reasons for why I came to the United States. However, I did not speak English, so, I asked them if they had a translator or my husband may help me to answer questions but they did not accept that. Third, after the September 11 attack, the relationship has undergone some profound changes between America and other countries especially with Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Political people in Saudi Arabia did not accept what happened in the United States and other countries have been exposed to violence. In addition, people a treatment became very rude with Muslims because they thought Muslims are agree with American s situation. For example, my uncle came with his family in 2003; they faced a lot of problems with American people. Also, while his wife was wearing Islamic dress, she got a lot of harassments from citizens. So, they could not stay more than one week then they decided to travel to Canada to complete their vacation. In my experience, sometimes old people called terrorist because I wearing Islamic costume. Heirloom Swot Analysis Essay An Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in Opening an Heirloom Seed Supply Online Americans are showing a greater interest in living healthier lifestyles; eating cleaner has become a growing part of our culture. As this culture grows, so too does the need for businesses that supply ingredients to support the trend (Essen Englander, 2013). In recent studies, it has been found that genetically modified foods are not as preferred as the more natural versions from before mankind endeavored to make structural changes to raw products (Bawa Anilakumar, 2012). One of the most difficult aspects of changing one s lifestyle to eliminate GMOs is finding said foods in a natural state. This speaks to a need for supplying ... Threats: Chain Retail (Whole Foods) Competition Potential Limited Suppliers Economy Fluctuations After evaluating this analysis, it will be easier to determine if the negative aspects of starting such a venture significantly outweigh any positives. Possibly the easiest of the four quadrants of the SWOT Analysis to determine are the strengths. Strengths The strengths of running an heirloom seed business from home: easy inventory storage; no employee issues or costs; no need to wear a uniform or leave the house; and no true schedule. Unlike many businesses that sell physical products, whether it s internet sales or in store, seeds take up very little space. One could easily sell many varieties with nothing more than a garage to store the inventory! A preferred method would be to have a separate room, climate controlled, with shelves to hold bins of inventory. Unlike selling t shirts or gadgets, seeds could have months of inventory on hand in one converted guest bedroom. Operating in this fashion would negate the need to hire employees. Having a traditional business in a store often requires hiring people to assist in the running of it. With no employees, there is no need for a human relations department, overtime pay, extra insurance costs, or salaries. In 1855 he was promoted to the Commander of the U.S. Navy. When Alabama seceded from the Union, Semmes was sent north by President Jefferson Davis on a secret mission to get military supplies for the Confederacy from the munitions brokers there. In other words, the current exchange rate reflects the future exchange rate. However, this model is questioned, past history of the exchange rate can t predict the future of the exchange rate so we can say that the random walk model is inconsistent with the technical analysis because it tries to use today s exchange rate to predict tomorrow s exchange rate. a. Stereotypes In Twelfth Night William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is a comedy about Viola, a woman who washes up in Illyria and then assumes the role of a man in order to be closer to Orsino, the man she wants to marry. It involves multiple cases of mistaken identities and deception. The stereotypical role of the sexes and gender also have a significant impact in the play. Ultimately it provides the opportunity to disrupt the fixed polarities upon which the normative Elizabethan society is based. This essay will discuss Belsey s statement that the closing of the play voids the transgressive gaps in sexual stereotypes. This will be done by considering the historical context and the sexual norms of the time and to what extent they are transgressed in Twelfth Night. Charles is of opinion that, the representation of homoerotic attraction in Twelfth Night functions rather as a means of dramatizing the socially constructed basis of a sexuality that is determined by gender identity (Charles 1997:122). As mentioned above, homosexuality was not acceptable in the Elizabethan society for the most part. It was even considered as sodomy. Before the twins, Viola and Sebastian, are married to heterosexual partners, both are involved in some form of homosexual relationship. While Oliva seems to be unaware of Cesario/Viola s true sex, the hint at the possibility of homoeroticism through dramatic irony is already enough to disrupt the stereotypical gender system. After Malvolio presents Viola/Cesario with Olivia s ring, Cesarios says, I am the man; if it be so, as tis,/Poor lady, she were better love a dream (Shakespeare 2004:84). Albeit not everybody would concur, I optate to argue that Human Cloning is erroneous! The noetic conception of someone playing god and engendering life from human DNA outrages me. No Matter how many times scientists fail to engender a plenarily engendered human copy they still don t give up to pursue this desired goal. The r2 on this was 0.13 demonstrating that this had a medium effect. In contrast the other aspects were not statistically significant. Out of these, they all had r2 values that indicated small effects. Important to note, however, is the fact that the cartoon funniness rating and the overall mood ratings were rounded to two decimal places. This brought both of these to 0.01, thus causing their classification as a small effect. In contrast, even though the r2 value for the BMIS negative was low (0.03) it was still enough to constitute the classification as a small effect. • 24. Police And Criminal Evidence Act create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that police have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have turned into the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJPOA) 1994. I will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these models both have different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should be protected rather than the victim. The Human Rights Act 1998 will then be used to show that it can be used to help terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on the statement and explain how the research I have found backs it up. In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects in conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home Secretary to appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped introduce the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets out the powers that police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when they are detained and questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984). Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the period of the Mandate, the Zionist Organization worked to secure the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. The indigenous people of Palestine, whose forefathers had inhabited the land for virtually the two preceding millennia, felt this design to be a violation of their natural and inalienable rights. The attempt will be made to show how Dickinson used humor and / or irony for the dual purposes of comic relief and to stress an idea or conclusion about her life and environment expressed by the poetess in the respective poem. This poem may be partially auto biographical in nature. Dickinson made few attempts during her life to be taken as more than an armature poetess. In Success..., Dickinson reflects on the nature of success and how, ironically, it can be best appreciated and understood by those who have not achieved it and have no taste of it. As in Faith ..., Dickinson powerfully presents her thoughts in a few lines. The poem deals only with one, ironic but universal, idea in its short length. It is the bitterness expressed at this irony (as found it Dickinson s juxtaposition of the words sweetest and sorest, separated by two lines) that is most felt by the reader. While the previous poem expresses the poetess bitterness and sorrow with one aspect of her life, I m Nobody! Who Are You? uses humor without irony to address another. In this poem, Dickinson style appears almost child like in its of descriptions including frogs and bogs, as well as the lively energy expressed by the poem through its use of dashes and brief wording. • 36. Themes Of Big Black Good Man In the short story Big Black Good Man by Richard Wright there are few different themes that take place in the story. This story is about an old man, named Olaf Jenson, that was a night porter in a cheap hotel on the waterfront in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. On one night, Olaf talked to himself about how there were only three rooms left, and he was going to take a nap because it was midnight. Before Olaf could take a nap, a big black man came into his hotel looking for a room and a whore. Within this story, there are three themes that are important, and the themes are judgment, fear, and suspense. The first theme in the short story Big Black Good Man is judgment. Since the very first time Olaf, the hotel clerk, lays eyes on Jim, the biggest, strangest, and the blackest man he d ever seen, he lays judgment upon him because of how dark and large he was. For a majority of the short story, Olaf refers to Jim as the black giant. Olaf judged Jim because of his size, how loud he was, and how black he was, and Olaf assumed he was going to be too violent. Olaf was determined to deny the big black man a room because of the man s color and size. The second theme in this short story is fear. Olaf became frightened of Jim the closer he got and the more he spoke. Jim was about six and a half feet tall, and his voice was very deep. Every time Jim spoke, he probably shook the entire hotel. • 44. Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote s Last Christmas With Sook A Christmas Memory , an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930s in a rural southern section of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is his sixty something (3) year old cousin who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make the reader feel joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably this passage is composed by giving the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsivity of loud singing. Capote s whimsical language takes a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23) to illustrate the feeling of Buddy and Sook s giddiness. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). As a result, his passage allows the reader to feel suddenly overwhelmed. Capote wants to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of any time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household. Capote s use of language equally portrays a sense of misery and somberness. For example, during the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. Notably, in the same passage, the relatives say, shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord! (24). Above all, these three things are of the utmost importance to Sook. Time causes people to drift away from accuracy and become more interested in what they want to remember. Hollywood has a reputation of creating films that cater more to the average viewer, rather than the history buff. Inglorious Basterds, by Quentin Taratino, take very liberal liberty with a history story, and creates a story that will sell to the crowd. This may seem dubious, but it is often not such a bad thing. Throughout the movie, there is large sense of American pride, but at the same time, there is a portrayal of the Nazi that many Americans have never seen before. Inglorious Basterds starts with a scene in occupied France, with a local dairy farmer being questioned by Hans Landa, an SD officer in charge of rounding up the remaining Jews in France. This position has earned him the name of the Jew Hunter . Landa seems to be very much enthralled by his job, and personally likes his nickname. Landa, without seemingly any evidence, correctly assumes there are Jews hiding in the house. This is the first Nazi introduced in the film, and it is quickly determined what he portrays. He is the Nazi that is cunning, yet sadistic. He enjoys rounding up the Jews, and does it with charm and wit. Landa is the Nazi that you would love, if only he was not a Nazi. Landa goes on in the film to be one of the main characters, and the one that is constantly fighting with the Basterds. Unlike essentially any other Nazi in the movie, he is the only one that really counters their resistance. The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. 578 (1): 50 70. Within social science, as well as pure research, there seems to be a continual and ongoing debate about qualitative and quantitative research. Some take the view that, All research ultimately has a qualitative grounding, while others believe There s no such thing as qualitative data. Everything is either 1 or 0 (Howe, 1988). In actuality, the debate should not be so black and white; both styles of research have their advantages and disadvantages. At times though, the way one constructs hypothetical constraints may actually prejudice the intended results or at least provide a framework from which to form bias. In the hard sciences, scholars tend to agree that randomized experimental studies have much higher internal validity than nonrandomized studies. This is basic to the overall scientific method of investigation. The term scientific method refers to a way of investigation or the acquisition of knowledge through the testing of a theory or hypothesis, then working through measurements (observation and empirical notes) to come up with a result, which should prove or disprove the original theory.
